"Welcome back. Okay, so there was a meeting at the White House yesterday. Between Joe Biden president and some moderate Republicans, including Susan Collins of Maine to try and come to some agreement on this $1.9 trillion proposal. That the president and Democrats have put forth with covert relief and joining us now to give us give us the flyover of exactly what happened and where we may be going on the The president, the latest briefing two on Cove. It's not just the relief, but the briefing here is national correspondent Rory O'Neill. Good morning, Rory, one of them. All right, you know? I was going to the big speech came at the end of the night from Susan Collins after their two hour meeting at the Oval Office. President Biden Vice President Harris meeting with those 10 moderates trying to figure out how to split the difference between 1.6 trillion and $600 billion. It's okay. What's what's a few billion amongst friends, right? You know. Yeah, You're right. It was a dream. So, um, from from what I'm seeing, uh, both sides were kind of saying they didn't come to an agreement. Right, No deal. But there was all happy talk, and it looked like some bipartisan unity. You know. The real message came from Senator Collins when she said that after the meeting talks will continue quote at the staff level. That's like saying Thank you for applying for the job, you know way. Appreciate your consideration. Uh, I'm not expecting much movement now going forward. Okay, so if there's no movement on this That the Democrats still have the option of doing the old budget, reconciliation and that is to through the parliamentary procedure. Try to get it through without having to go for the vote in the Senate and getting a pass that way, do you think I mean, I hate to ask you to speculate you're journalists. But does it look like it could go that way? If we're we're still it loggerheads here. Well, that's no guarantee, either. You know Joe Manchin, The senator from Virginia is the conservative Democrat. He's not necessarily on board. With all the spending, either. He wants much more targeted relief. He doesn't like the idea of spending $465 billion on direct payments. Those $1400 checks. This is why we sending $1400 to someone making $250,000 a year. That's not a stimulus package, eh? So he's more in tune with what the Republicans have proposed in this package. Also, the other big deal breaker. Is this money for state local governments? The buying plan has 350 billion to help. Bailout states and cities that are paying all these extra cove. It costs extra police extra fire extra ambulance personnel. The Republican plan has no money for that, saying the federal taxpayer shouldn't have to bail out states and cities that are badly run by Democrats. Yeah, that has. That was the sticking point, even during the Trump administration. Exactly Now, the $15 an hour minimum wage seems to be an issue too, because That was shoehorned into it. And no movement on that. That's it. The dames are keeping that in well, and we'll see how that one goes because that really didn't get much that wasn't well received by anybody. Even a lot of the Democrats are saying Democrats more rural areas of saying that just isn't a demand for a $15 minimum wage, especially when the economy is sort of teetering on this precipice, But Joe Biden is getting a lot of pressure from his left. They want to push this $15 minimum wage. Big states are already doing this. Same. Some states pay more. You know it's going to come and the minimum wage relief. The minimum wage has been raised in years, and something needs to be done at that level, says the Democrats. Okay, Um, Finally, the covert briefings were back to covert briefings again, but they don't really seem as Interesting. Certainly There's certainly not a lot of drama, you know, e don't think it's must see TV. I don't think it's my see TV anymore. Must resume meeting by the way. Yeah, it was. It was exciting. It's just another team to anything that we've all sat through. But there was some news in the one yesterday the government reaching a deal with an Australian company to make new testing kits. So you contest for covert yourself at home. The nasal swab 30 bucks for the test. They That's that could change. And then you get the results in 15 minutes on your own cell phone, And then that they hope will change behaviors. So if you're sick, you don't go to the office. You don't go to school. You don't go out shopping s. Oh, they're hoping that more testing will relieve to better behaviors. Oh, that is great. That the eye like that news. That is good news to make it easy for people to detect whether or not they have Coleman. Rory O'Neill, national correspondent, Rory Thank you very much, All right, we'll talk to him. All right. Thanks. Hey, We've got a Web poll question along these lines of what Rory was just talking about and it's a W th calm. Wh y n dot com and news radio. Are i dot com.
