Yes, Congratulations. It's finally been done. 50. Well, Ally's welcome to the show. Bill Curtis is going to read you three news related limericks with the last word or phrase missing from each If you can fill in that last word or phrase correctly into the limericks will be a winner. Here is your first Limerick. In the sixties. This drink was Justfab. If you loved it by all you congrats. This saccharin soda has now reached its Koda because Coke will no longer make cad. Yes, exactly Right, Cola announced just continuing their tab. Soft drink. They are eliminating a number of unprofitable brands like Zico Coconut water, which was absolutely gross but thrive for awhile, with its slogan still better than tab. I don't know, now making tab anymore. Well, they were for people who had nostalgia because Tab was Cokes. First. Diet Cola was launched in the early sixties, and it had what was available at the time. The artificial sweetener saccharin instead of sugar. I don't know if you tried some tab lately because you can really taste the laboratory. But not to worry. Tab fans while your favorite soda maybe going away, you'll have the after taste for years to come. Okay. What? What a horrible name, though. Tab. This is true. It turns out that they got the name tab by using a computer, which at that time is a large thing that took up a room. To generate just a whole bunch of three letter words. And of these three letter words, they decided Tab was the one they would use. And the computer was like that was my least favorite. One has a job. Why did you pick that one? All right. Here is your next limerick. Our Swiss tail is not anecdotal. As a spreader event. It was total. The high mountain calls gave the virus to all go. Who did was spread by our own? Megan? Yes. One might say you Spike.

In Washington. The two sides maybe talking, but there's no guarantee a deal will be reached on another round of virus relief. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin spoke by phone Friday afternoon, but there's no indication they moved any closer negotiations over a Corona virus relief measure. A spokesman for Pelosi says the two leaders agreed to continue their conversations in the days ahead. House Democrats and the White House are believed to be about a trillion dollars apart on another round of covert related stimulus. Pelosi is indicated. Absent a deal she could press for a house vote next week on a Democratic back proposal. Spending a little more than $2 Trillion. Republican leaders prefer a more narrow approach. "Candy flowers and a romantic dinner with your significant other you know what we're talking about Valentine's day but the burden of producing that special night often falls to the restaurant servers valentines they say is one of the craziest nights of the year I call it just factory because it's two by two by two by two it it's very very boring how boring or not Jackie Roberts from the pink door a restaurant in Seattle is ready she says the hype of Valentine's day turns up the pressure on wait staff to try and make a guest evening perfect everyone's taking the holiday which is to say they want to perform way too well and there's not as much spontaneity is we usually have an irregular night and the quest for that perfect night sometimes means the customers give the kitchen staff advice on how to prepare the meal you know you get a lot of allergies a lot of modification if people kind of built their own dishes that turned into well I don't like the after gently let them know that they in fact created the dish on her own it's not something that we need to Brian Regan back of the mockingbird in Nashville says not all customers are so difficult in fact some leave their servers a special sort of tip are definitely seeing cables that are clearly on a date when one of the people leave their number of a server which might tell you have a date but not all surprises are as rewarding as that Reagan back recalls one Valentine's date that went horribly wrong for one of his customers this guy came in early he was very excited all dressed up in a suit flower you'd get a proposed to be on say and would she showed up she had a notebook and it was a list of everything that was wrong with him she sat there for an hour and read it to if your working in the hospitality business on Valentine's day Laura Valente from Tilia in Minneapolis says the trick to getting through the craziness is beyond your game it's a hustling diet put on your running shoes try to look nice and let's go go go and give Mullen from the restaurant circa nineteen eighteen in Newport news Virginia has some words of wisdom for even the most harried server I just say to myself Hey we're not curing cancer here you know we're all we're doing is

U.S. Navy Ponders An Ambitious Fleet Makeover Amid Tight Budget

"President Trump's administration is expected to unveil a budget plan today under a deal with Congress last year. Defense spending would rise only slightly which leaves leaves the United States Navy a little bit caught between a tight budget and a president who would like things to be a lot bigger Jay price of our member station W. UNC reports the scene at the famous shipyard. Newport News Virginia was a naval classic United States ship John F. Kennedy God bless this this shed and all who sail in her a few months back. Caroline Kennedy Chris and ship in honor of her late father. These kinds kinds of ceremonies are becoming more frequent after decades of decline. The Navy's fleet is on the rise. This year is expected to top three hundred warships. And it's aiming for a much larger number that fifty five ship goals more than a goal. It's in the law. He was in the authorization bill several years ago and was date stated goal of the president when he ran for election in two thousand sixteen. That's Thomas Mode. Leave the acting. Secretary of the Navy warships can come with jaw-dropping Christ tags the eleven hundred foot long one hundred thousand tonne Kennedy for example costs more than thirteen billion dollars and for Moseley paying for a lot more ships. It's a challenge. That's what we're trying to figure out right now but when you look at the size of the fleet right now where it was four years ago we were at two hundred seventy five ships so getting into a fleet of three fifty five is going to require a significantly higher top line. That's a thirty percent increase in the size of the fleet. But I don't think it's reasonable for us to ask for thirty percent more top line. It's just not enough money to go around and defense to be able to fund. That Moodley says he's confident. The navy can get there but says it will have to get some additional channel funding and chew ships that cost less however it decides to reach three hundred and fifty five. There's one especially influential person who wants it to camping. Our Navy is now the smaller suspend since believe it or not World War One. Don't worry GonNa soon be the largest. It's been that was president. President trump back in two thousand seventeen on his own visit to Newport News. The navy's goal for fleet size had been more modest mark. Canton is with the Center for strategic not GIC and International Studies. The navy's previous target had been three hundred h ships but after trump won the election. They couldn't have target. That was below at uh. Now president-elect was recommending so the Navy did a quick for structure analysis and came up with three hundred fifty five ships can't see in once led the Office of Management and Budget Division that focused on the defense budget and acquisitions. He says it's unclear. Exactly how large the fleet really should be. I think because a strong argument that the navy needs to be larger if the United States wants to execute the strategy that it has pursued since the late Obama administration ration- and then into the trump administration that is a global superpower that is engaged in Europe in the Middle East and in the Pacific. Nick also that is going to engage in a long-term competition with Russia and China. Doing those two things takes all large navy now whether that needs to be three hundred fifty five ships or not. There isn't a lot of analysis there. mody though is focused on that three hundred and fifty five five number and that would mean integrating into that fleet some ships that cost less require fewer people to man them and also helped with our overall all strategy of having distributed maritime operations with more ships out during the fleet. He says the navy can not only reach three hundred fifty five but do it ahead of schedule Joel. And without even counting the drone ships. The navy is aggressively

"Keep your net. So okay. So let me break it down for you. So it's easy to understand. Okay. Good. Okay. So the repaving is going to begin next Tuesday. That's going to be the twelfth and beginning on the twelve if it's okay to park in any even numbered lot. But only if your son number in that lot is an odd number. So if you parked in spot Fifty-seven in lock tenure, okay parking spot eleven we're going gonna tell you. Okay. Sorry. I'm not following this. Locks of the even numbered ones. Okay. Even-numbered lots. Yeah. Every lot has its own number now. But that's just for the first week only starting to fall in week. It'll be odd-numbered lots with even numbered spaces. So in that circumstance, you could park in space eighteen five but not space eight lot fourteen if you do that. And then we're going to tell you. Hold on a second. This is getting really confusing. Okay. So it's okay to start. Next Tuesday's Kara. No matter what time of day. It is a mess. Yes. There is. That you know, the parking lot in the shopping center across the street. That's what. Yeah. You could park there pretty much any time during the day after midnight, though, they're gonna tell you. Okay. So. You're in the food line, and then walk across to traffic and all that don't get towed careful walking through the lots. Remember there being paved? What if that's happening? Well, then it doesn't really shouldn't affect the paving the cement, they use dries pretty quick. No. We're supposed to do when it's raining. Okay. Well, I'm supposed to walk mile range or you can park in the assigned lots for the day. But now, here's where it's gonna get tricky on holiday weekends. You're not going to be able to park in any of the lot. So for things like Easter weekend and fourth of July weekend, you're not you're going to have to find somewhere else to keep your vehicle. Saving. Well, I mean if they do it, right? It takes a few months you something. Ask you something. At a time. Don't pay seven when you're one or whatever. Yeah. We thought about that. But they wanna get different spots at the same time. And we got to have the same park and rules for everybody in a complex, otherwise it's not fair. So even if they're not paid. You can't. Probably not not it depends on what number. What? I don't know what you're talking about. Yes. Exactly. Unless you. Toed. Here's another thing. The wrong spot. Really taking my car to an impound lot. But I don't recommend doing that. Because the impound lock is out in Newport News. Well, because the company we hired is from their, you know, their truck their lots. See a list of these days. It's okay. And no, we are not here. You're just going to have to remember. Now, here's an easy way to remember. It's a little song. I came up. It goes like this odd spot even lot you can park their lot. But only on every other week even lot odd spot. That's the place to put your car, but only starting March twenty first see sticks in your head out. You know? It's more inducing. If I'm wrong spot. Definitely you will you will hear a loud, beeping noise. And probably the metal latch, the day us on your car when they're towing it. So that's kind of like a warning. That's my car. Getting towed. Right. Yeah. So no, no, no warning them. Not really great. Okay. I can't screw this thing up royally. And now the good news is we should have the whole thing done just in time for the roofing project that's going to start this summer. Now, that's gonna be an inconvenience are you an upper unit or lower unit. Okay. Yeah. For a short while this summer, you will not have a roof. Keep an eye on your mailbox. We'll be sending out all the info soon. In the meantime, you know, what you might want to do is go out and buy yourself. Some of those weather tarps to cover up your stuff with you got to be. You guys travel wonderful day now. Thank you. Think you're the real deal. Big fat phony. How smarter you this early in the morning?.

How to Leverage Meetup.com to Build Your Professional Network

"About six months ago, we launched a meet up called marketers non ass- and a point of marketers Optimus is for us as marketers to get other marketers together into a room to talk about marketing every single meet up is about an hour and a half long stars with networking, and then we have a lightning talk by someone from our staff, usually it's mere Kevin. And then we haven't invited feature speaker talking about something cool and interesting that they did that has to do with marketing we started that in our backyard in downtown Norfolk, and it was very successful raft about we had about fifty people show up for the first meet up and we've been doing it ever since. And we were very proud of what we had done. And we thought it was great and whatnot. But what we realized that we were catering to a small population. And population was people that were willing to drive to that. Vet location, and there's a whole nother section of our region, which is called the peninsula, which is Newport News and Hampton area, there's a body of water between where we are. And where they are. And so people don't like to go through the tunnel and over the bridges and all that crap. And so they just don't and especially now during the workday unless they have to. So what we realize is that we want to become a dominant force in this market and this market. Unfortunately, it's physically separated into two distinct regions. So we had a decision make if we want to be a dominant force. And that means getting marketers to know who we are. We could either try to get them to come out to our event and overcome this geographic barrier, or we could go where the opportunity is. And so that's exactly what we did. We decided even though it was a literally twice as much work for us. We're going to stand up a second meet up over there. All right. So now we are running to. Meet ups per month, one here, not backyard one over there on the peninsula. Right. And actually that was wrong. We were running to we decided to add a third one as well because we are doing work in Orlando. And so basically anywhere that we go we're going to bring this with us because the great marketing tool for us. It's a great way to find the people who we want to interact with and get to know them. And hopefully, they'll like us as well. And then that will lead to

Why You Should Cyber-Stalk Your Prospects

"There. I'm eric. Kevin join us on our journey to building a one hundred million dollar company. This is Eric Olson your host today. We're gonna talk about stocking in a good way though. So I want you to think about how you go about getting prospects. For us. We get a decent amount of inbound leads from our website social media SEO things like that. But in addition to that, we want to go after high value prospects. So it's really just not good enough to sit back and wait for the phone to ring for an Email to come in in order to grow this agency to where we want to get it to we need to proactively go out and find new clients that we wanna work with. So the first thing need to do is really think about what kind of client you want. Usually for us right now, the clients that come to us are a little bit on the smaller side there may be regional players. But for the most part they have one or two offices and they're looking to grow. Now. Ideally, the class would come to us are much bigger now in order to get those bigger clients come to us, we I have to acquire clients of this size and magnitude so that we can prove that we can work with them. We currently work with the Bank right now. But we don't do a lot for them. We really just host them, and we take care of their website. We wanna do more with them and we've actually approached him about it. But they just don't know enough about digital marketing to pull the trigger. So we came up with the strategy where we wanted to actually go out and get a regional Bank. We looked at all the banks here in Hampton roads, that's Norfolk Virginia beach. Newport, News that area, and we came up with the list of about a dozen different banks, and they're different sizes. Some of them are actually headquartered here some are headquartered outside of the area. And we came up with the various shortlist of two to three banks that we want to go after we split them up. I took one Kevin took another j tech another. And we started to do research. We found everything that we could about them and who was in charge of their marketing. Well, one of the banks is a fairly large regional Bank. They have branches on the peninsula and also on the south side. And they were mine I was the one that was going to pursue them. And I signed or stocked this shit out of them. So what I wanted to tell you is in the end it paid off. But in order to get there. I connected with this person on Lincoln. He accepted my request, and I sent him to direct messages. I then connected with him on Twitter, he accepted, and he followed me back, and I sent him to direct messages on Twitter. I also called him twice left to voicemails. And I literally told him. Hey, this is Eric your Stocker, and I also sent an Email so I pursued him, and I didn't give up and I contacted him through multiple different channels multiple different times and let him know very explicitly that the reason I was calling because I wanted his account. So what I didn't wanna do is be timid about it and just kind of tiptoe around it and send him white papers. And just kind of hint that this is the kind of work that we do if I'm going to. Ashley prospect and pursue someone. I wanna make very clear the reason that pursue them. So long story short. I actually had the meeting esta he invited me to his office. Very nice guy. And we sat down for an hour. And I was really a little bit intimidated. I thought maybe I was making a mistake. I had looked at all their digital marketing beforehand, and they were in really good shape. So the first thing that I looked at it. I thought wow, I don't really know what I'm going to pitch here, and I slept on it. And in the morning, I looked at it again. And I realized that they had a gap in their social media. So although they have tens of thousands of followers every single time. They post on social media. They get very low engagement less than ten every single time out of twenty thousand or more. It's just not acceptable. And what I realize is they were just checking the box when it came to social media. So what I ended up pitching. Ng was social media, and in particular video content. Now, what's interesting is. I wrote that down in a review document that I printed brought with me. And when I first got there, we talked about some of the challenges that he was having and guess what social media lack of Ideo and lack of storytelling is what he cited as a problem and correlated exactly with what I had predicted. So it turned out to be a great meeting.
