"Let's get some more color on those equity markets. We can't do that with Bloomberg Markets reporter Pretty Gupta critic. What you looking at this morning? Well, Good morning, Paul. Good morning, Bonnie. It is very low volume today also sing very low volatility, so it's slim pickings were talking about individual equity movers. But I'm gonna give it a shot under the hood here. The big story here is gonna be in biotech and sage Therapeutics. Ticker s a G partnering with Biogen. Take Herbie II be to develop and commercialize their depression and movement disorders. Gold price hits record high amid fears over coronavirus crisis
"Today, reaching new record highs and here to take us through. Why that's happening is our chief markets editor. She's scarlet food scholar. What is going on? Oh, David. I mean, this is a story that's been going on for a couple of weeks here, But today we did see gold reaching new high. The next stop is $2000 Alex, Of course, we did surpass the highs we saw. In September of 2011 and we say both gold and a silver on a tear here Now the stock of the R If we had to pick one would be G l D. This is the biggest gold. It's trading at a nine year high and DLD tops the leaderboard inflows. Last week it attracted $1.3 billion inflows. Bringing your to date flows to more than 18.5 $1,000,000,000 the second most after the vanguard S and P 500 fund. Why now, While we've got the Federal Reserve meeting this week, and the central bank will almost be guaranteed to signal lower for longer. A lot of investors are interpreting that to mean lower forever that is weighing down on the dollar, weaker dollar, stronger commodity prices like gold. In addition, you've got the new co bit outbreaks across the United States and, of course, renewed U. S. China tensions So in the same regard, we're also seeing Bitcoin get a bid higher as well. Bitcoin trading above 10,000 $10,000 at the moment now within the S and P 500 year looking for companies, Newmont Mining is the on ly gold miner there. It is higher seventh day of gains to a record high. Also among foreign company stocks. Common stocks traded in the U. S. Nine out of the 10 most actively traded our gold or precious metals miners and can see some of the names right. There was this guy when you talk about a weaker dollar and people buying gold, traditionally, one would think that's a hedge against inflation. Now inflation hasn't been anywhere for a long time. Should we be looking out for the possibly inflation is down the road. While people are definitely talking about it all that massive fiscal stimulus has got people worried that there will be inflation down the road. It's been deflationary so far, but we've seen break even rates start to creep higher and Bond yields are negative on a real basis when adjusted for inflation, So you've got negative really yields adding to the situation one thing to note here even as we talk about gold prices, heading to new record highs and potentially getting to 2000 on a nominal basis, Yes, there at a new level, but when you adjust for inflation there, so below the levels we saw in 2011 and far below the levels that we saw in the 19 eighties, so there is room to rise further. And that's why you see a lot of the analyst projecting higher prices for Gold Bank of America, for instance, sees gold getting 2 $3000 over the next year and 1/2 you B s a little bit more conservative, Forecasting $2000 by the end of September 2000 is definitely the next level Toe Watch. We don't know whether will happen in days or in a couple of weeks. A lot of talk there about how there might be some consolidation in the weeks ahead before we eventually get to that 2000.
"It's time once again to answer your burning market questions. Total request was such a hit guy of lots of fun, right? We've got so many questions. We thought we'd take some more. And our first question comes from John and Long Island. Guys. This is John from long. Island by question on salesforce, our border in the march lows, and it seems to hit a resistance point at two hundred dollars a share. Do you think I should sell right now as it may not only exhilarated from here. Hold or potentially by more on your thoughts. Thank you. All right John From Long Island, Jeff males! What do you say to him about crm? Well look if you bought at the lowes. You're probably working on a thirty five forty percent gain something like that so I think at that point in time. It's always smart to take a little bit off the table so I would start there. John but I'd also say. The stock is holding a multiyear uptrend. It looks like it wants to break out to a new absolute high. It looks like it wants to break out to a new relative high versus the SNP so I actually think that you can play the momentum and salesforce, but definitely take a little bit off the table if you're games, are that big? I tend to agree I. Mean it's really not just about my view on the stock. It's about what is the prudent way to go ahead and risk manage up thirty five forty percent. You one hundred percent need to be taking some chips off the table. I would agree I would agree as well in terms of the long-term uptrend. I would say it is pressing down a little bit towards if I remember correctly is fifty day moving average, but as long as it holds those long term averages. With, at least a portion of of my investment, absolutely all right, our next question is an international one. It comes to Roberto all the way from South Africa. I'm loving the show all the way from South Africa. Wanted to ask question relating to gold. It has run within one hundred dollars of historical high. So my question is. Is it time to start shorting gold and gold stocks? I mean even full Toronto two thousand. There should be more downside than up rats. I just wanted to say. Thank you for having me on the show. And thank you for your amazing analytics. As! Roberto from South Africa Guy Jami who knew we had fans although in South Africa. That is unbelievable. You know when back in another life one of our largest clients was the Reserve Bank of South. Africa And the road I believe from Pretoria to Johannesburg. Is Route One on one? And that was the codename Anecdotal Story I. Know Nobody Cares shorting gold here to me is a very short term trade. I do not although you had a huge reversal Newmont huge reversal panamerican. Silver today I. Don't think that's the right way to play. It I'm of the belief. That Gold's going to continue to move higher as his silver, and as are the mining stocks. You can be selective if you WANNA try to short them, but Roberto I stay long the commodities specifically gold and silver for the next six to nine months for sure Jaffa was your Taylor South African friend. Yeah I think that's probably too and I'll comment on silver specifically as well you know that's put in a massive base, and it looks to be breaking out to the upside so I agree with Guy Look in this environment. You might be able to play it on the short side for a quick trade, but overall I just think momentum's too strong you. You have had flows that are really aggressive into gold and the gold miner, so for that reason I think you can play it on the short side near term, but the momentum strong so I think looking out any further than maybe a month or so you probably want to stay on alongside of it

"Are at the executive conference here in Arizona. Right now, let's get a check on spa. Make cap shares a little bit of weakness there. Dave Wilson, Bloomberg stocks editor joining joining us from New York. So what's driving that definitely a bit a week this Lisa when you see the Russell two thousand index down six tenths of a percent, the S and P five hundred higher by one tenth of a percent. One of the biggest declines in. The Russell belongs to children's place, whose ticker is P L C E that stock down ten and a half percent. The retailer posted disappointing results for the fiscal fourth quarter and forecast an unexpected first quarter was on top of that children's play said it would buy assets of the bankrupt chains Gymboree and crazy eight a Hawaiian holding ticker H A has fallen nine percent. The carrier was lowered to sell from hold at Deutsche Bank, which cited Southwest Airlines imminent debut of flights to Hawaii south west got US regulatory clearance to. Begin those flights last week. Now, why the Russel's biggest gains belongs to blue-green vacations, ticker be x g the timeshare owner is up eighteen and a half percent after bbx capital, buyout, other shareholders Rabab one hundred and fifteen million dollars. Bbx owns a ninety percent stake. At the moment, actually, blue-green skein is the biggest in the Russell. We're also seeing gene therapy. Stocks higher after Biogen. Agreed to buy nights star therapeutics were about nine hundred million dollars. So you've got Voyager therapeutics ticker V, Y G R up nine and a half percent. And that beer and biotechnologies ticker on that one AD VM up about eight and a half percent. Bloomberg stocks editor, Dave Wilson. Thank you so much. Well, Newmont Mining has rejected. Barrick Gold seventeen point eight billion dollar unsolicited takeover bid a deal that would have created the world's largest gold producer. We've got. Ceos are attacking each other in their performance since the deal was announced. US goldminer instead offers a joint venture for Nevada mines lots of moving pieces here to help us kind of piece. It all together is Danielle Bo cove Danielle is Bloomberg's of metals and mining reporter in Toronto. So Danielle thanks so much for joining us. What is the latest here for this this deal this massive deal in the metals and mining space, the latest is that we've we've had this rejection come from Newmont this morning. Everybody was largely expecting this. But they hadn't responded when Barrett came through last week with an unsolicited proposal for Newmont Newmont had an obligation to tickets to take it to its board. So that's really what's been happening over the last week, and they've been reaching out to investors and they've come back, but it's not just a clean rejection. It's a rejection, but they're also proposing their own alternatives. So they're saying we don't want to do a full merger. With barrick. What we do wanna do. Excuse me as continue to go forward with our own proposed merger, which is a. A takeover of a Canadian company called Goldcorp? But in addition to that, we'd like to sit down with Barrick. And we'd like to talk about a joint venture in Nevada where both companies have some assets. So it's kind of like they've rejected the one deal and they've come back sort of with a two part deal as an alternative, and everyone seems happy because if you look at the shares of all the companies they're all up a little bit. So basically people saying this is a great kind of Koumba yacht moment is that is that what you're hearing from other people who invest in these companies. Well, yes, I mean, I think that's true. And the interesting thing is that the major shareholders of Newmont and Barrick and to some extent Goldcorp, but definitely new Martin Barrett are the same shareholders. So it seems no matter what deal comes through. There's going to be some sort of synergy seemed likely now between these companies. So I think I think that that's right. But ultimately, you also have to companies that have a pretty long legacy of hostility between them, and they have very different. Views on what the best course for shareholders is going forward. So shareholders are going to have to make a decision about that at some point. And. Yeah, one one side will definitely end up winning. So then you'll I mean, I guess the ball now is in barracks court are they where do you think they do are they okay with just this limited joint venture or do? They still want the big deal. Well, I think they want we'll have to wait for Derek to say what they want. But they they certainly came out shooting for the big deal. They've also been quite critical. Both sides have been quite critical of the others in terms of their executives. So I would expect to see barracks. Mark Bristow come up pretty quickly with some kind of a response to that. He's not one to two normally pull his punches and new mantra Gary Goldberg was very critical of barracks management in the call this morning. So yeah, I would I would expect it the best the next responsible. Come from the barracks is for sure. So is there any other rate? So we're going to be waiting to hear what barrack has. To say, do you expect more consolidation though? I mean is this joint venture going to be just another word for consolidating the industry, or or do you think that we're done here with the with the mergers? No, I think for sure there'll be more consolidation. No matter what ends up happening with these three companies what what combination ended up taking place. They're going to end up being assets that are for sale as a result of that. Everyone's made that clear that that part of their deal would involve rationalizing the portfolio. So as soon as you have some of those minds hitting the market, you're going to have other companies, we know are Austrailia and companies, for example, that would like to buy Newmont's Australian assets, there'll be a scramble for those. But it does also put pressure. I think on some of the mid tiers to potentially look at tying up in order to get the kind of scale that they need to not that they can compete with a company this big, but at least have a fighting chance. Generalists investors have really fled the sector. And so there is probably limited investment appetite for a limited number of companies. And and it will. Probably the biggest ones that can attract that Daniel book. Oh, thank you so much for being with us. Daniel Boko is Bloomberg metals and mining reporter coming to us from Toronto really interesting kind of romance and hatred playing out in the gold mining sector, Paul. We really haven't talked about the President Trump's comments over the CPAC conference talking about wanting a stronger dollar excuse me, a weaker dollar. The interesting thing is today. I can't help but keep noticing the taller strengthening. You know, what I noticed as a weakened a little bit right after the comments were made. But then, you know, the the economics the fundamentals of taken back over and where what currency is the dollar gonna depreciate against that's the question. Well, guess and also there is sort of a feeling among a lot of analysts that President Trump is speaking to his base. He certainly was speaking to his base during that meeting. I so he doesn't actually have policy applications for some of his threats, but nonetheless Zeller is stronger today right now, let's head over to ninety one studios in Washington DC, Nathan Hager there with world national headlines.

So far in Asia, Brian. Yeah, I'm going to say that this morning. There are three big issues favoring risky assets in the region. Some of which we've trumpeted already a lot President Trump's move to delay tariffs. But also the story that were running which is backed up by a lot of comment that China's de leveraging is dead. It's true. We did talk about this a little bit last week. But I think it's it's really starting to feel its way into the markets, and then this one, and this is something we touched on in the media review front page editorial in the China. Securities Journal that the stock market in China is to be a big part of China's core competitiveness. So thinking on this is that the impact of China's financial services industry on the world doesn't align with its economy. In other words, the economy's impact is is quite big, but the financial services industry and China's not really so the idea is to expand that and this this particular commentary says the. Capital market can boost China's economic transformation. So I have a feeling wants to China markets. He's stepping down the CEO and co founder rich Barton is coming back to take his place. It's all about this shift into buying homes, and providing mortgages, just not running real estate websites. Debbie wilson. Thank you so much again green on a scream at some real movements. Again, I'm watching German tenure as well. Margaret Brennan with us now, of course, CDS face the nation. See it on CBS and all their network coast to coast on Sunday morning could here two to I'll tell you about that on Bloomberg radio. Margaret, you have to do a victory lap of the Sunday shows on Sunday last you got the most play with a brutally incisive interview with Senator Graham the Carolinas review that one week forward if you were to do that interview this Sunday. How would you change the heat of that interview with Senator Graham, well, you know, he really came to play with a lot of news like security conference. I'd probably hone in a bit more the sender. Got his way he won. He persuaded the president to lead two hundred US troops in Syria. On the bet that that could entice Europeans to commit troops to stay alongside them. So you got the president to change his mind on a full withdrawal. I want to know more about what's next. There isn't fully delivered on is defense. I think he's tried to dissuade folks from from that idea in the past. I don't know the Senator Senator it tremendously able to shape foreign policy in the say from the outside. It just shows you what a strange virement were in when we have an acting secretary of defense who because of that acting position is weakened in many ways, and you have a Senator shaping policy. I should say, by the way, the Pentagon hasn't reversed the president ordered them to withdraw. So they're mending the order, they're not reversing highly. And the acting secretary of defense doesn't seem to be shaping the policies much as a Senator from South Carolina has that that's significant. So Margaret, the the report appears to be winding down or the investigation appears to be winding down, perhaps a report is due out sooner rather than later. What do you think is the latest there? That's right. Our White House, of course on it. Major Garrett was reporting that it could come even students today. But certainly within the next few weeks mid-march the target date. We've been hearing the question then becomes so what then happens attorney general bar now in that enforcement job gets to decide what art comes public. What might not want makers get briefed on? And we're going to start a whole other line of argument around that does the public have the right to know, Ken, congress you the report, and if they try to subpoena with the department of Justice enforcing order against themselves to turn over and they don't wanna turn over. It's gonna take us into a really interesting debate within our democracy or Margareta, no Poland's to get in the show this Sunday. But I've got to ask you this question with your legitimate Middle East credibility, David Kirkpatrick of the New York Times tossed out of Cairo by Mr. el-sisi, your thoughts on that. L C who remains an important US ally and recipient of US aid. I think number two only to Israel in terms of receiving US aid money cracking down on human rights workers and journalists in really unprecedented way within that country, and the US is turning a somewhat of a critical eye way, certainly not publicly flogging him for doing that. And that is a real, you know, issues to continue to watch as Egypt and Assisi tries to hold onto power there. So Margaret give us an insight into what we can expect from face the nation this weekend. We will be talking about another huge question that we should be debating, which is whether lawmakers have ceded too much power to the executive constitutionally, what is this country doing to itself or allowing to happen without real debate right now, and I'm talking about the national emergency and the president's decision to bypass congress on this policy issue. We're going to have the very first interview with Republican Representative Adam configure from Illinois. He just got back from deployment to the US border. He's a reservist and he went down to serve on the board. Or he's gonna talk about what he saw about that Republican Senator ROY blunt Intel to talk just a little bit about this ongoing. Russia probe Medina. Thank you so much..

"Interview in which he was wispy and quiet, and he said, that's not how you do it right. Around the phone into give him hell. I mean, that's is that yeah, I didn't know that. And in absolute mirror of Clarence Thomas after Nita Hill's testimony. When you know this is a high tech lynching Lynch, and he used when he said, this is a circus circus. And they both said that. And I noticed that immediately and I said he's doing the Clarence Thomas thing. He's coming out and it might be a kamikaze thing, but the only way I'm going to save this is to show how outraged I am at this. I'm not saying he was. He was not being truthful about that, but I definitely saw that if he was going to be at a seven, he was going to turn turn it up to a ten and eleven. I think that there's polling that came out just today saying for the first time. Voter enthusiasm gap, which has been pretty pronounced between Democrats and Republicans has narrowed to the point of almost nothingness on this just speaking to Berry's points of like getting fired fired up. So what I think is going to meet depending on how this plays out because there's there's a way in which the day Newmont depresses Republicans. And then there's a way that makes sense to me that it's going to that even if he washes out, they get more fired up than before one qualifier on that though, is that the lot of there's a lot of evidence that people are much more reluctant to self identify as members of a party. In which case the people who are left identifying as members of a party, their beliefs levels are about the same. It seems as though there's an intensification of people's conviction and in the fight along partisan lines, and in fact, the polling on specifically, the Cavanaugh question is fascinating. It's going to paraphrase badly here, but it's. Like seventy two, ten, ten, two seventy with a partisans and an independent like thirty three thirty three like they're trying to figure it out on independence. You know, depending on how you measure it with Gallup, when people self identify it's it's the highest number by far like forty, four percent, forty, five percent of this point and Democrats and Republicans are under thirty though. Interestingly, there is similarly, a lot of evidence that many people who self identify as our parson. The are very partisan. They just don't particularly eight, which I asked that things might be about par. Here's what a way of thinking about this that is depressing and kind of gets to your question Michael, which is a public choice analysis, right? So to the extent that I understand public toys and I don't because it's like. Libertarians been talk mayor chicks explains things. He doesn't quite understand. Look dude. To me, build, build, hold careers out of this explaining creek. Libertarian magazine, I think so. Blacked out. Libertarian. So no, it's the idea that politicians and even bureaucrats respond to incentives. And actually, if you look at their decision making and it's like totally the personal work life incentives. My want my bureau to have more money next year. So I'm not going to say that the problem was solved and we don't need money next year. I'm going to say that we need a five percent increase in this, but also politicians respond to material incentives. And if you want to try to figure out their behaviour, it's going to be probably more based on incentives than anything else. Right. So the George Mason University, I think, was a a kind of James who can in the Nobel prize winning economist is part of the so that analysis. It might explain what if you just assumed that that was the overall driver of everyone's behavior in this, where would you? What would you conclude you would conclude that all Democrats are going to oppose this nomination..
