Why they're so when Tom was coming to the area, he would always go to seven springs to go skiing on. He kept passing this property on 7 11 on his way up to seven springs, and he's like, Hey, we can make what we're doing in Newcastle. We can make it work in Donegal. And so he ended up buying the property and Donal and Opening the new living treasures in 1998 and then he's like, Hey, we could put a hotel here, too. And so we ended up opening log having large suites in 1999. You got this just tease the audience a little bit. Reviewed one that fared well good. Psychiatric management in our summer issue and a new one just came out of Australia a study by Carlo Watson and colleagues from the University of Newcastle. It tested conversational therapy, which uses careful listening and the therapeutic relationship as the fulcrum of change. Over fourteen months one, hundred, sixty, two patients with borderline personality disorder were randomized dbt or conversational therapy both therapies are twice a week. Conversational involves two one on one sessions and DBT and individual in a group session both therapies were equally effective thing that matters most and borderline personality self injury. DBT had a greater effect on depression possibly because it employs more behavior activation than conversational therapy does both therapies had similar effects on core symptoms of borderline. So what is this conversational therapy that fared? Pretty decently against dbt it's sometimes called psycho dynamic interpersonal therapy. The therapist listens empathic lead to the patient reflecting back what they here with statements rather than questions and mutual I. WE language the goal is to help the patient develop a coherent narrative and a healthy sense of self and to look for Moshe Misunderstandings in the room and repair them as they happen. So the patient can learn from their relationship with the therapist and apply what they've learned to patterns in relationships in their own life. Conversational therapy was developed by psychiatrist. Robert Hudson and Russell Mir's and Mir's wrote a guide to it in two thousand twelve. Rabiu is our guest for this episode and she says, she decided to make a career in ice cream when she started to think about being an adult who needed to have a job and how to have a job that feels like fun at least most of the time I realized that I was GonNa say signed working and I wanted to do some that enjoyed doing. So I went to culinary school and we learned how to make ice cream like in a machine, their small machine but I really enjoyed the process and the different things you could add to it and fell in love with it and just decided. That if I was GonNa do something for myself long-term. I wanted to be ice cream because I from my childhood even now to adult Abulat fond memories that include ice cream and I wanted to be a part of that for families and friends in people that I know and don't know into you know old a special place in their heart through. What makes your ice cream special will I I? It's delicious Zeiss Grievous but we make it all by hand. So it's all small batch make more than like four gallons at a time because of the machine and have. We do Vegetarian Gluten Free Vegan. We're working on some sugar free. So we're doing our best to make sure that we can accommodate everybody's lifestyles, dietary restrictions and slipped Reggie with cool Sitri and then ownership wise. We are black women and we're on what kind of edge does that give you that another shot might not have for us it's very important that we make people feel. Safe and inclusive and accepted because the things that we've both had issues with. Throughout our own lives, we want everybody to be able to come into the shop. We matter what they look like at identify as who they you know whatever they're going through we want them to feel safe to come and enjoy. That's exactly. It's also the way a lot of our young listeners field. So let's hear some of your questions. Hello I'M CHARLOTTE I'll leave in Australia Newcastle and Fluffy so deny. To, learn how to Mike US Cream. I names ULA years old from Nova Scotia Canada, and I'm wondering how does not turn into ice cream? Hi May name is May and flavors up, and my question is holidays came made ice cream sounds like it's just cold cream, but there's a little more to it. So what is ice cream? So ice cream is defined as a frozen dairy dessert. That basically has air like incorporated into it while it's freezing because while the air. So the basis of it is usually heavy cream milk. Sometimes I'd guilt not always use sugar and then whatever your flavorings are gonna be. So we basically he'd all those things up together bring him to a point where all of our ron greedier become safe to eat. Whole it down and then. Put it into machine which we refer to as a batch freeze there that we would turn on as a cylinder on inside so that ice cream is spinning as getting cold. So while we incorporate air that ice cream, if you will you get basically this fluffy creamy product because when you mix. Hold an air milk. You get that texture that we all know as ice cream if it didn't spin around if you didn't get the air into it, would it just be like a block of ice to ascend? So does going to save. You don't put the air intuit things that we also know popsicles if you've ever had like a fudgesicle which is the icy but still cold that is what would happen if you didn't pump that air into it so that if you wanNA sound fancy, we referred to that freezing as. Simply. Frozen. So quietly frozen basically freezes. In like a period of inactivity.

Jonathan Luff on Co-Founding an Incubator for Early-Stage Cybersecurity Companies in the U.K.
"I'm not by background attack person I come from a liberal arts background I studied politics in languages at university, and I was fascinated in international affairs I was always interested in history and politics. And that developed into a into a study of international relations, so I I studied. To universities in the UK Newcastle, which is in the north of England, and a Master's degree at Bristol University in the south and it was really. While? I was at Bristol that I developed. An interest in joining the foreign, Service Exams for the for the Foreign Service while I was at university there and I joined the British Foreign Office in in one, thousand, nine, hundred eight, and that took me on a fascinating professional journey, had the opportunity to study Arabic while I was in the Foreign Office and that took me to the Middle East. where I I had a couple of postings. Including some time spent his adviser to UK and US military forces during the war in two thousand and three, and over the course of my my government career over the course of my Foreign Office career I increasingly focused on national security issues. So you know things like counterproliferation, counterterrorism and Cybersecurity, and so that that really took me sort of further towards the the work that I now do but really my my leap into startup space, and and the work that we now do with with cybersecurity companies that was that was triggered towards the end of my government service, I spent a couple of years as an adviser. Downing, street a prime. Minister's Office that was two thousand ten eleven twelve, and around that time there were number of reviews taking place into UK national security, and that flowed some very interesting work around cybersecurity as a as a tier, one, a national security threat, and and you know I I was involved in some of that work. And after leaving, government decided to to make it one of the things that I would focus on. And so, what are you involved with today? What is your day to day like these days? Well since two thousand fifteen with my co-founder grace, cassie, who was another friend of mine from Foreign Service Days A. WE wanted to put in place. A way to support entrepreneurs. In the! Early days of establishing a cybersecurity company we had seen in our time. In government that the this was one of the most important. Challenges and opportunities of of the of the of the decade and we felt that weren't really any. Systems or structures in place to provide the support that was needed. This is fascinating complex area of technology and business, and while there were united some fantastic institutions in the UK there were already a number of significant companies operating this space. We couldn't see the number of innovative new companies emerging that we that we expected to say on the E. found in in somewhat more mature ecosystems like the US, and and to some extent Israel, so we started, Ceylon and Ceylon was A. In early days and experimental accelerator modeled to some extent on programs like Y combinator, but dedicated to Cybersecurity, so we initially Ranna three month program in London, and it's really grown from there and over the last five years we've. We've run ten programs in London and four programs in Singapore and we've had with one hundred companies come through those programs, and so we we spend our. We spend our day odd as in running those programs finding and supporting those entrepreneurs, and then, and then continuing that that support once they leave the program. Can you give us some insights on the state of Cybersecurity and entrepreneurship there in the UK? Yeah well I think it's developed. significantly certainly over the the ten years. That we've been really focusing on this and. Definitely we've seen that. Over the five years we've been running ceylon there really wasn't a a community of of of cybersecurity startups here in the UK back in in the first part of the last decade. We we've helped to capitalize that community here, and there is now a thriving startup ecosystem right across the range of technologies, but definitely in cybersecurity. And I think there are now there are some really quite successful companies that have been set up and developed here over the past five years, and it's now very much part of a a broader technology system here in the UK. And part part of the reason for that is that? The UK has a good reputation in this space, but it's also a a good place to to set up a business if you'll from somewhere else It's been a draw for talent. globally and we certainly saw that in in cybersecurity. We could see the talent. In cybersecurity was was very much distributed around the world. It wasn't just an isolated pockets, and and we found in. Many people wanted to come and. Join our program and get the business started in the UK, and as a result there now you know tens, if not hundreds of of interesting small companies in this field. Is there, even a geographic advantage of of being where you are. I'm thinking you're sort of you. Know equidistant to S- to some of the other important centers of cybersecurity. There's no question. I think you know. Greenwich Meantime has been a competitive advantage for the UK in many different areas of a of business and finance. Over the centuries I think it gives us a genuine advantages being as you say, in time term sort of equidistant between. The economies of the of the of the Americas and those of The Middle East Asia, and that definitely that definitely helps you know having the the economies of Europe on on our doorstep, and you know the last forty years at least strong connections to those economies has been helpful. London has been a melting pot for anybody trying to start a business seek finance and I. Think you know the world the world does come to London or at least it did until we were hit by the pandemic I. Think it will nonetheless emerge from the current crisis is one of the world's great global cities, and and so you know geography masters in Business and certainly been helpful to the development of the cyber ecosystem here.

What's it like in your house when you watch the Newcastle Game? It's a little bit crazy. It's a little bit loud it's a full of explosives. Yeah it's Kinda crazy but I mean that's what it's like at the game software to recreate you know and tell us about the tattoos. Well most of my tattoos are all new. Custody related maiden UK-US LAMI BELLY. The plan risk of famous songs tightly with her own beyond. It's over fact but now goes aware a little me wife but I don't hover. Nam wouldn't way don't mention not to hourly. So what's it like to be a Newcastle United Fan? Oh John it's like a roller coast on its open. Dow when you go through phases of being not so bad. Thirteen Has a gentleman by the name of Mike. Ashley Buys the club and since he bought the club. It's pretty much being spiraled downhill and so it's a real rollercoaster. You know it's a low hair relationship. So I want to ask you about this potential takeover of Newcastle. What are your feelings about it? Well demet this two different stories to this. The the emotion potent story for Newcastle Finance is that might actually is going to sell the club. That's what all Newcastle fans want. They want Mike Ashley the Salad Club. The because like I said it's been in years of misery to relegations in those thirteen years. Which almost a made the didn't and then the second part. Is that Saudi Arabian Royal Palm. You WANNA buy the clothes. So you've got two completely different things and you know. Unfortunately the accustomed funds other people still in the middle so for me. Personally I. I'm desperate fall. Mike Ashley to get to leave the club. If comes in whether it's the Saudi Ri- Family Infants anybody else. Desperate for them to really put you custody battle In China Waco sleeping giant in all the infrastructure that have got a massive massive fund based it could be another month star city. I hit and assuming this does go through. And there's this huge infusion of money in new players presumably a lot more winning if all that happens because of money from Mohammed bin Salman and Saudi Arabia. Does that leave you feeling any different? You don't think that it's top and be full Chelsea God boughten Abo- by a Russian oligarch. They're the most amazing people in the world munches a city owned by the United. Our government's royal family. Unfortunately I just think that's. How football is these days. I think that much in Chelsea of kind of sold a soul to the devil and there's a chance Newcastle could do that as well but I really don't know how I would feel until it actually happens. I'm still skeptical. That it's actually GonNa happen in our assays stories every day in. It just seems like it's in the stars that Newcastle. Never ill now on that. Lay that ethically morally. Yeah I get it Saudi Arabia's a finest example of the country to be running that will I feel like Newcastle finds? Stop in the middle of all this and aunts it's out in Hans Lastly Gavin. How will you be watching games? If and when the Premier League returns oh well. I'm washed to cooler. Those games with no fons and it's dreadful author the first one. "Premier League meeting this time clubs. Voting unanimous unanimously even to begin training in small groups. That'll start on Tuesday statement calling it a first step towards restarting though no start date for actual premier league fixtures has been announced a jewels. Maybe not the ultimate news fans were hoping for but still seem significant completely. Valid true savvy significant in the sense that finally training would be starting again tomorrow in small groups. Oh not the full squad together. Time on the same page but groups of four or five players together with social distancing against he'd pass the ball to each other for example which was not the case before which was not allowed before contact. Obviously if you do two to five and you can go into contact and again you need to respect social distancing base of very important first step on next step towards resuming football in England with you're right. There's been no data discussed but that was really. The the aim of today's meeting today was returning to training. I of course discussed maybe if May June is still possible or realistic to go back. And I think that's the idea and vehemently idea after today but he was very important that everybody agreed tomorrow. Training small groups could go again. Don will folks in England. Be Happy to see this progress or perhaps frustrated compared to what they saw this weekend in the Bundesliga no nothing everyone in the UK the Bundesliga up with tremendous joy. And I think it was great to have football back in our screens. You Watch competitive for all. The standard was very very good. Considering the place trained and play competitive matches for ten weeks I think the Premier League watching on with with keen is I. Don't think great news of how they're meeting today Bernie phase one which is absolutely fine jewelry. Set up the protocols that's going to be in place so that's good. Hopefully that goes all well and we can move on to phase two next week but I think the players and I think everyone in general in the UK are so glad that competitive football buck crag Mr positively good news. Yeah I think you know the League. It was a little bit of a blueprint for people to sit back and watch it. Seems as we speak now the and everything went pretty well in Germany. Look I've taken this week. Way With no close contact training and small grips rump. Up The testing who knows where we'll be next week. Maybe ability to ramp up more. You know get logic. Training husband had tentative dates or talked about around about the weekend of the twelfth teams of Journo coming quite quickly. No Steve Bruce to Newcastle Manager. He was talking about the engine which I think is to fire away but maybe we could split the difference somewhere and at least a start for the players but as I say that will come down to how many tests can produce high often Connecticut and as any big coming down with a virus. If that happens that could really mean it's one step forward and two steps back but at least hop something to hold onto an England at the moment down what about the players in the premier league that have expressed concerns. You think they saw what happened this past weekend in the Bundesliga and those concerns be put to rest not one hundred percent. Always be a case where someone doesn't WANNA play if they're scared for their for their of their family which is can't which is inevitable really and it's it's something that you've just gotTa hold drowns silo. It's it's one of these wet every individual case you have to treat it is that I think the Majori the techs I was getting from players and coaches still in the game. We'll watch in the Bundesliga as I was on Saturday and Sunday and will love in the the foot will be back. I think it's only a matter of time before the privilege comes back. I think in my opinion won't be June the Twelfth. I think maybe that's a tad on bishops. But why not I? I'm for that and if everything goes well. Maybe it's the twelve hour probably be thinking it'll probably the nineteenth the week lights up. But as I said the texts hours getting from players and coaches still in the game they were really loving life. That was the Bundesliga was on the weekend and I think it will give the players the players that will watch especially found that. Just just desperate for any solvable but the players in the league that would have been watching on our thought that appetite to come back will be even stronger in even greater surprised to know. I wasn't getting any checks and messages from any players in the primarily. Dawn of Julia was Julia would get loaded textile then everywhere so I try not in France from frank from your good frank with these egotistical players these days but the interesting thing is in unite talked. That's dawn last week. We're kind the old school asked a question. We'll would you go back and play the answer from you and I was Kasich or yes and I think that will be the cost at mainly what the decision will be for most players? But we and I don't think anybody who decides they don't want to take that risk it cannot be castigated. Everyone is different now. We see as your yet. We'll we'll play a name that but everyone has a different fear getting on a plane. Some plans not even. Don't even give a thought those on a flight after strop. The saline horrified the petrified. And so Naro any players. The big name players. That don't WanNa play you know. I think it's going to be difficult to say. Well that only thinking of themselves because and that scenario you could offend you. Do have to thank you for yourself and your family and your extended family and that can only be pass decision. No Club decision thing. They have be convinced Craig. Then I think the players have to be concerned convinced reading between the lines what was happening in the Bundesliga in Germany at the weekend the players will oversee hotel. Not Before the game in the wasn't any of the people in the hotel it was just a member of stuff. So they will they will free so arom in and around the hotel and do their own thing as long as obviously they didn't leave the hotel and then on the way to the game they went in their own because they they they. They didn't get showered together. They go back and that cost so. There's a protocol in place where you could see at work in. It is going to be different. It is going to take some getting used to always watching the games of the weekend. You guys now found it bizarre as I was watching the substitute sitting behind the guy in the stand with mosques on then I was watching watching Holland scores I. He's dancing the corner not celebrating yet. This play groped at corners and free kicks so it it is just going to be a little bit brand new and it's going to be different. It's going to be strange on the for everyone watching but as I said we've got football back up at everyone. I think not sensitive people that low footballer so glad that it's Bach agreed the premier league set to return to training in small groups then on Tuesday. A reminder you can get your questions for extra time we've got some interesting topics on extratime of late including is ESPN.

"We will have to let him go and maybe that would just be fifty or sixty million euros. Craig specifically Liverpool. Do you think would be a good fit? Think he'd be a good fit wherever go and I think you know by them unit would be looking for Platelet Vale because the reason don mentioned it can. He can play in so many different positions so many strengths. Today he was the front man for Leverkusen behind it can play depot can play white If need be look at the goal today in terms of the head does that physicality as well as pollen will be a great asset for any club of. You'll look not live up front. The it's not the most physical. Yes Roberta from you know. We'll get shared of headed goals. But really he's not a big threat and they are nine. That are Saudi-omani are more off over his reasons so he brings so many he would bring so many fans to that Liverpool side apart from the vision. Apart from the talent you saw today is physicality albeit against the Bremen site that I've really struggled from set pieces. The Markham was poor but he took full advantage. And Yeah as you said it may have to be another year because Holland document. He makes the right move. Flew Right Club to get that game to progress and maybe it has type for for eighteen months until that right move and the right money for Leverkusen comes along dawn. Michael Ballack has suggested that he should stay. Harvard's at Leverkusen for another year based on what you said just a few minutes ago. I'm guessing you disagree. Well do disagreeable in uncertain times. Jill said that is probably not a lot of teams could go and just spend one hundred million pound cash players. I think he's good for Labor Kuzin their stories running in the papers in the UK today that even Barcelona are trying to make a trade with three of the players. That's how highly they rate them. So I think he goes to the very biggest clubs in Europe and I think he walks into most is off scot free space but the talent. It's twenty years of age and you know it's I in the UK precedent of said in the mentioned. Bollock and he's a little bit of a clone of Baalbek I disagree. I think he's totally different. The one plan I would liken him to is a toll fast aversion I think he plays on the left. Hand side through the Millis Craig. But he predominantly left-footed very silky easy on the eye so again yes Liverpool. Be a great fit even rate and not highly. They are willing to trade three players for him. Gills fourth full season at the top flight level. How come you think we don't hear more this kid especially in terms of that elite class when people talk about the early Holland's the Jade Sanchez? He doesn't seem to generate as much at least press. Writing is mainly because Kuzin having done as what in Europe than than by Munico Bush domain even the season and also because last season he was two years ago he was fantastic and really you could see he was only eighteen at the time. Going on to one thousand nine hundred. He was fantastic season. And they're not. I think he had a bit of a day. Probably because of the season two years ago and it was not good and north prolific the beat of injuries as well and new tire the times and that was a bit more difficult but this season his best really and I think I think maybe the lack of appreciation especially outside of Germany. Not so much in Germany. I think outside. He's maybe because in Europe things so far gone that well for him in for Kuzan however in this league. He's been fantastic so far and whenever you're probably goes back. I think you'd have to work for him for liver because in the runs to come guys. Let's switch gears a little bit budget. You know his gardening time is over now free to sign with another club Don your dream of Keno go into Newcastle. Now that much closer. Yeah and it is a dream. This is what I'm trying to and much happening all the big hitters through my boss probably going to think about making the change soon even though I often. Jv might be the perfect fit to go there. I'm not sure on buying the job. The Hansi flicked on so I think for Newcastle fans have got aspirations of you know a top manager coming in and it has to start with the Mona job being read in the press in England. And it's mentioned continue. Its mentioned Gareth. Ballots mentioned in Kula Bali. The first man that has to come through the door for Newcastle has to be a top-class manager you get through the door Newcastle. And then give money to spend on pretty sure he brings in tries to bring in the top players across Europe. Craig who Needs Project Tina the most. Well he's not gonNA buy on because hand flexing a new contract and rightly saw off the bucket sterling work journalists shocking of coverage so clearly. There's not going to be changed their you know boss alone. The MILEM sales part Your Tina. Who said he couldn't manage because if he's on your ties no no that can change with an offer. But I I think that's can easily put your San. Imagine he might reverse that decision given an opportunity but clearly newcastle. If they're interested in and we're going to have a heck of a sale on to get because he knows you could be sense. Eight for one of the big jobs even though we're not quite sure what's going to be around the moment and Newcastle as good a club in his beggar club as as a difficult sale. Because he spent time at Tottenham had agreed same. Talk Behead to build the five years with relative resources. And it's going to do all that again if he goes to new castle with. Who knows warmer money depending on takeover? So as you're poetry and open of Newcastle where together but I think that is a huge big rig for that club clearly jewels. Does your gut tell you. He'll end up when I was just saying the market for managers. This summer will be short very different luck for players to be fair very different than anything before. And if you're club and used to have a magic even if you don't really want him anymore. Ps almost to but it's still has one year two years three as on his contract. If you suck him night it will cost you. Love money that you maybe don't have right now and same for stuff. So maybe you need to look into clubs. Whose MANAGER OF CONTRACT THIS SUMMER. Similan for example Stock Stephanie. Purely because you would be out of contract in the Senate and maybe they could go for. Maybe you're try to get him. Although the from Nick seems to have at least a in the house already so it'd be difficult and I think you constantly will all be done to kind of project they can offer him. Because we know that Chino. We choose very very carefully the next the next trip you will go to. And as we know what he's. He's a mashed with a love ambition. Big Ambitions as well and Imam. Maybe wait for something a little bit bigger than you guys except if you really put him on the plate a project that is hard to say no to all right guys one. Final Bit of news then. He's Scottish Premiership has called the rest of its season. Celtic champions for a ninth time in a row. They were thirteen points clear of Rangers. Meanwhile hearts have been relegated. Their stor I take that as an unbelievable compliment as we wait for handed you will be joining us any second now to talk about Newcastle I guess. Jj catch people up to speed. If anybody didn't listen to that last week it looks like Newcastle is now in the final phases of a takeover which is kind of been headed up by Amanda Stapley. Who has been at the forefront of this really for a number of years now since Mike Ashley I put the team up for sale She is sort of acting almost as a front woman for a Saudi. Arabian consortium which is essentially the the face of which is the crown prince right. It's the and the consortium funds are the public investment of Saudi Arabia. This is a a state run state-sanctioned Project. Yes and it looks now like we're heading into the final phases here where it seems like what has been conjecture over the better part of the last two and a half years or so. It looks like this is actually now going to happen But it's not without some protests from fairly prominent organizations. Amnesty International has protested. This and believes that it should not go through because of Saudi Arabian human rights violations. And then be in sport. The television network has protested this end. They've made it clear in their protests that it's not necessarily because of the reasons that Amnesty International are protesting. I think they want to make sure they wanna make clear that like they're not jumping onto a cause that is not necessarily their own. No because because it's it's an issue I mean again it's A. It's an issue of that region being played out now in in the media at the moment In in England which is incredible. Yeah because being sport is essentially saying that Saudi Arabia has been pirating their EP L. Feeds to play that country in fact being sport has the rights and Saudi Arabia has been giving it to a different t organization. Nbn Sport is contending that it's doing so illegally also I Abu Dhabi and the potential owners of the United. Saudi Saudi Arabians are politically tied in that region. And they would not be on good terms with the Qatari on sports there exist. It's a mess. I'll tell you who I'm worried about. Andy Gray and Richard Keys. I don't want them getting tied up. Well tell you what. Let's go now to Kristen Hedge Back on the show has been on with us before football rider Newcastle supporter. And he's here to shed a little bit more light on what is going on with this club right now. Kristen what's Are you? I'M NOT BAD. Thanks. How are you we're hanging in? How is this all been for you? Are you healthy are you? Generally of sound mind. Yeah you know I think. A pandemic is a wonderful time to bone up on Middle Eastern politics and and how that plays out in the realm of professional football. So it's it's I've had all the time in the world to learn about this which is wonderful. Yeah now Kristin you haven't yet Ghana's fire as to have the Kingdom of Saudi flag put onto your Avatar on twitter like other Newcastle United Fans I. I'm curious it's probably good. Starting point you I did. Not I knew from the northeast. They did not realize that you were a Geordie. I realize you're Newcastle United. Finding probably when you were working in England for the Guardian and all those vacations it good not for people to know that. But as we sit here right. Now how conflicted are you? How how is the Newcastle United Fan? And Kristen Feeling Oh I think more conflicted than ever It's impossible not to be his as I look through the Lens of Support A. I've wanted Mike actually going from the full close for years but the consequence of that happening is this replacement. That just doesn't sit well with me. A CON icon. Be Aware of the situation in the Middle East read. I've read about the Saudi Arabian regime. And then say yes. This is completely fine. It's it's not for me to be concerned about. I think I just couldn't wrestle that with my own principles and I feel like I stand for as a person. Kristen Sorry Andrew. Just a good across you. Just open that esther. Because I don't want to paint all new Catholic fans with the same brush and twitter's of broader of broader society all the time. At least I hope not do you know is there. A groundswell are are a co-ed a coming together of opposition amongst Newcastle fans to this. I think it's it's a sliding scale I think is perhaps a good way to put it because you right. Football fans as as a group are not this margin a slob have one identity one idea in the same way. I think you can say that about the media that the people covering this do not have the same opinion about the entire situation. It's degrees of gray and I think for the majority. Yeah the this is something that doesn't sit well with them but I also think there's a slight nihilistic tone to it in terms of what we couldn't do anything when Mike Ashely owns this club. We couldn't get him out. We call really control a great deal of what's about to happen anyway so yet we could protest. We could do whatever you feel is is valid response to the situation. But would it change anything? Would it all just spe- facade a show of of trying to to reflect something that maybe we don't actually even feel that passionate about as a support of this? Yeah I'm kind of curious for Newcastle. Supporter is for whatever happiness that do and supporters are feeling that based around the idea of Oh. My God were about to become the next Manchester City. We've won the lottery or is it just more out of this pure hatred that the supporters the fan base of developed towards this current owner. I don't even think it's grandiose is wanting to be the next month. I think the the people are going home behind this a gun. Ho behind because for over a decade. They've wanted to feel like football club consistently looks for the best option. I know what's the mediocre option? It's a lot of striving towards the middle at best and I think for the end. It's very difficult because there are political elements to this not just in the Middle East but I think back at home as well in terms of when I look at this through the lens of a supporter and talk to people back home and things. I don't agree with this to be very clear. I'm not a fine if it doesn't sit right with me. I also look at people back home. Who have been told that this group will come in. They will potentially invest heavily in the football club. the League to an ambitious point where we sold them with soup. Bobby Robson Lights Bobby Robson. And then also they'll invest in the local economy that invested in the city which to be honest the current branch of them haven't done to a great deal for a long time. So there are absolutely socioeconomic factors tied to this that make it so intoxicating principle is to the point where yet a lot of them. Don't want to stand up and say this is a disgrace. Is I think we all agree? The point that I'm GonNa Steal the lesser rather that honesty. Put out that's that's very much in and out. It's a concern but I think where those people come from who who are not as passionate about that aspect of this football club. Newcastle is not the first horse through the gate here. There's been a number of them now for me personally. That doesn't my principles. Don't change facing what everyone else does. It's the hell I reflect on it so I think that's what makes it so complicated. It is it's a lot of people looking to give this bowl of responsibility to person did support as or who. I haven't seen a ton of criticism from Mike Ashley personally. And he's the one that signed off on this and he's the one that signed often having said I'll sell it to the right person in the calmness now to me. I don't know if that's the right person selling it depends what he's criteria for that as I wanted to ask you. Christie mentioned the Amnesty International the letter from them There was a protest right before you came on Jay talking a little bit about being sports And they're protest. This happening as well is there. Are We essentially at a point now where this is happening no matter what or is there any concern for those? Who are a part of this? Deal that Amnesty International Sport that these protests could actually hold this thing up from happening. Yeah you don't WanNa be the guy who says it's definitely gonNA happen. Then it falls on this thing is with the with the aspect from what I read. This is not a lawyer who has watched. A lot of people's court is for this to be an issue. It would have to involve a conviction which I don't believe the Saudi Arabian who has had as yet the French court said yet. We can agree that the lights were being used for after that. We're taught release signed off anything else. If the conviction that would be a bit different. I think The very fine line and I think you even saw that in the English So just tonight. As everything was dropping tomorrow that the primarily solve intimate through briefing journalists such they were a little bit queasy about this potential deal but they also can't necessarily block it because it could sprout up a massive legal by the Saudi Arabians. All Mike Ashley says you know. This isn't fair now. It self as a giant kind of one sitting on the edge of the kitchen counter that that is another situation that solve impacting. This and why I think if I was to put my own reputation I think it will go through firstly kristen Before we look forward to what what the new new castle Super Newcastle will look like. Can we reflect? Who'S BEEN SUPER NEW CASH? And now that you're in Brooklyn new free safe to say that there's no there's not money under the fans around there are actually maybe there is because the recent documentary but before we look at that can we reflect a little bit on. Mike Ashley's ownership because I was reading a piece. Today and it it kind of took me aback. He's been out the KKOB. Thirteen years now How would you characterize those thirteen years? If I think there's a piece in the athletic that really went in depth on this and yet at the same time it produced this little microcosm that's perfect which is if it took too much of Mike's time and he felt like it wasn't going to make him money. He wasn't interested in the football club dot so dereliction that.

Feeds to play that country in fact being sport has the rights and Saudi Arabia has been giving it to a different t organization Ambien sport is contending. That it's doing so illegally also I Abu Dhabi and the potential owners of the United Saudi. Saudi Arabians are politically tied in that region and they would not be on good terms with the Qatari on sports there exists. Yeah the this is something that doesn't sit well with them but I also think there's a slightly nihilistic tone to it in terms of what we couldn't do anything when Mike Ashely owns this club. We couldn't get him out. We call really control a great deal of what's about to happen anyway so yet we could protest. We could do whatever you feel is is valid response to the situation. But would it change anything? Would it all just spe- facade a show of of trying to to reflect something that maybe we don't actually even feel that passionate about as a support of? Yeah. I'm kind of curious for Newcastle. Supporter is for whatever happiness that do and supporters are feeling that based around the idea of. Oh my God. We're about to become the next Manchester City. We've won the lottery or is it just more out of this pure hatred that the supporters and the fan base of developed towards this current owner. I don't even think it's grandiose is wanting to be the next month. I think the the people are Gung Ho behind this a gun. It's through hell. I reflect on it so I think that's what makes it so complicated it is. It's a lot of people looking to give this bowl of responsibility to person. Did support as or who. That in itself is a giant kind of one sitting on the edge of the kitchen counter that that is another situation that solve impacting. This and why I think if I was to put my own reputation I think it will go through firstly kristen Before we look forward to what what the new new castle Super Newcastle will look like. Can we reflect? Who'S BEEN SUPER NEW CASH? And now that you're in Brooklyn new free safe to say that there's no there's not money under the fans around there are actually maybe there is because the recent documentary but before we look at that can we reflected a bit on. Mike Ashley's ownership because I was reading a piece. Today and it it kind of took me aback. He's been out the KKOB thirteen years now. how would you characterize those thirteen years if I think there's a piece in the athletic that really went in depth on this and yet at the same time it produced this little microcosm that's perfect. Which is if it took too much of. Mike's time and he felt like it wasn't going to make him money. He wasn't interested in the football club dot so dereliction that.

Running For Recovery
"Coach. Angela Pew here. Coaching you to get that sober life you want and as usual. We have a fantastic guest today to share a great story of inspiration in recovery and all that stuff that we love. Let's take a minute and welcome shelley to the show. Hi Shelley thank you for being here with us. Yeah thank you to intellect for having me on your show. I'm really excited that I get to talk. Yeah take a minute and tell everybody a little bit about you and your journey in recovery. Well I am originally from a small town in Pennsylvania Newcastle and that was really where the seed was planted for me to admit that I was an alcoholic attic. Take the necessary steps. I needed to our regained in. Get back the life that I always wanted to have sober and Just kind of released me from all the bad habits and obstacles of holding me back so I went to Rehab and I started you know my journey clean and sober and site. Check myself into Rehab. But I got to the point of losing my independence and I had move in with my dad. And that caused me to look at things within and Finally admit I was in a halt and addict in dig really deep into that and a lot of soul searching and it took a while to really accept that in a really do the work that talked to gain my independence facts. So you know once. I checked myself in Rehab. I started going to meetings. I got a sponsor I started working. Twelve stabs and by working a program of recovery a gave me the ability and the opportunity to move to Columbus Ohio and be independent against. I put two and a half three years sober together out in what I had to do. I had to cut out a lot of people places and things You know people in friends that I love unconditionally to this day but I had to get back my life and my sense of self and purpose and alcohol and drugs were holding him back for a very long time too long. But I wasn't quite ready to do the work and to put all my heart and soul into that because as we all know it so cunning baffling powerful when it it sneaks up on you when you least expect it so you gotta stay vigilant and working for a bank now. It's the longest amount of time that I worked for a certain company over ten years. Now I'm really thankful grateful and proud of that and I owe that to being in a in a program but I also that too many other are resources in avenues. Because it's not only about me putting down the drugs and alcohol. It's just really about me. Finding my true sense of self and purpose and passion getting back doing all the things I love to do today. One of the things I would really love to explore is how you made the decision to go to treatment and I ask this because I think you know I've worked the frontlines of addiction As an interventionist as a counselor as a coach for many many years so that world is very second nature to me. You know I I relationship so treatment centers all over the world and I've been helping families do that stuff so treatment to me seems very normal. It's almost like the natural progression when you're trying to get sober figure things out but I know to the general public so to speak and people that are really in the beginning of this journey and figuring out if they're in alcoholics if they're not an alcoholic like what was it for you that made you say okay. I've been battling this on my own. It's not working. I think I better see a higher level of care and do inpatient treatment after I went to Rehab. It still took me a long time. You know before admitted I was an alcoholic. It was still there was still so much. Shame and just disappointment in combination of things just took me and I was just so stubborn you know and in many different attempt for me and I mean numerous different sobriety dates But it wasn't until I went all in it and truly work the program and what my rock bottom was at the time was I lost. My apartment lost my job and I went to move in with my dad and you know he's a loving and caring person. You know nothing against living with him but myself and my being one more in new I was capable of a lot more just having a better life by stopping the drinking and the drugs and I wanted to be independent again and I knew that if I continue to drink and use drugs that you know I've already was in jail from it. I already lost jobs when you finally your beatdown fill so hopeless and desperate inside and you're willing to try anything in and not until you truly surrender and be willing to do whatever it takes. I'm you're just GONNA so like you're beating your head against the wall. I've tried tried it on my own. I could stop couldn't stay staw- I knew I had a problem. But it's one thing to know you have a problem but you have to be really ready to quit and to do whatever it takes well and it really it really is very much a mindset to and I think that's a stumbling block for people so often is people get caught in this mindset of. Oh I'm GONNA stop for a little while and then I'll be able to control it again. You know like they kind of WanNa do it half way and the truth is I've never in my lifetime. Met a non alcoholic person that wondered if they weren't alcoholic or a non alcoholic person. That said you know what I really need to take a break for a while you know. Non Alcoholic people. Just don't have those thoughts and if you're in that mindset that you're GonNa have asked it or you're trying to manipulate the system. It's like you're trying to manipulate yourself and convince yourself that you don't have a problem if you're in that mindset it's going to be nothing but a struggle you really have to get to a place that you're done with it in that you understand. This isn't the life I want anymore. I don't want to drink anymore. It's not that I want to drink like other people drink. I don't WANNA drink period. It does not serve me. It doesn't do anything for me. It is not good for me. There are a lot of issues that come with a willingness to drink poison on a regular basis. There's a lot of self esteem stuff that comes with that. I mean there's a lot. It's a lot to unpack. You know being an alcoholic or having addiction whatever when you started looking for treatment or when you decided to go to treatment. How did you pick where you went? I'm always curious about this too. I worked in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania at the time and it was back at the time. The real estate market was crashing. I knew the company was gonNA close anyways so I wanted to just you know I knew I had health insurance. So that's why I went to my boss and said Look I. I got a problem with alcohol. So did you just Google it. I mean did you ask people for recommendations. Did you call Your Insurance Company? Like how did you decide where to go? Yeah I actually just called my insurance company recommendations Orien- so yeah I mean I. I drove myself there after one last run and I think it was over Christmas time. I two thousand and seven. I believe I do believe there is no one size fits all right. And that's why like I have the recovery toolbox. It's about building your toolbox full of tools. How things work for you because we are all a little bit different in those ways and I love meetings in love a and there's a lot of stuff I don't like about a I think a is this brilliant thing that gives you a cheat sheet for a life of recovery. It's like they put it all together for you in this nice little package and all you have to do is walk in the room right. You've got support you've got love. You've got acceptance. You've got people that understand what you're going through because we're all going through the same staff you've got friends to talk to people to hang out with like it's a package deal in. Its nominal ride the same time. I don't care if somebody else doesn't like it if you don't WanNa go don't go. I don't care but you have to do. Some thing is give it a try is what I say. Try It out you know at first you know. I had to take what I needed and leave the rest behind and you know and it was just about showing up into eventually you know it could sink in because in the beginning it's like I was such a mess. I couldn't even complete a sentence and I'm just very thankful that I had somebody you know before me that led me to to
How to Build a Successful Membership Site
"All the way from Mucosal upon Tynan Yorkshire England. Mike What an absolute pleasure. It is to welcome you to the show and thank you for being this week's guest expert and mentor. Thank you for having me on the show. What an introduction. I love that all the way from Newcastle England. Well we gotta put you in the right context because otherwise people might think you're just next stole but since we're an international podcast and I love it that we interview people from all over the world. Mike. Let's get down to basics. What exactly is an online membership site? I looked at your frame that as getting basic because this is a. It's a funny question. Actually because the term membership is just so broadly applicable net flicks is a membership local associations. Aw memberships seal allow those types of businesses have online elements but in the online business world when people talk about membership typically. What they mean is some sort of combination content and community and usually the content. Is Ill learning? So it's usually educational content on a specific topic. Usually run by a recognized expert or authority in a field. A mass usually supported by some form of community so everything from a discussion forum by private to paying members through to private facebook groups and so on and so generally there's all sorts of Mina variations of that model but it's usually a combination a learning with community what you pay for access to those education materials and also a little bit of access to a particular experts. Aurthority that you follow and you want to lend from. How do we know when it's the right time for us to create membership site and even if it is the right time? How do we know that it's what we should be doing much of a as down to knowing your audience and actually speaking to audience so if in hearing that you're thinking well what what audience than that's probably a sign that it's not yet time we always recommend people built some sort of following online and by following really you want that to be people on an email list so people who maybe visited the radio book by? Noyo audience our office so they've Regio Book that maybe visited your website. Hops you publish articles all your podcast on Dave. Subscribe to your email list because they want to hear more from you. That is generally what you want online following and I would say once you got a few hundred people who are demonstrating a desire to him on to learn more from you beyond what they've read your book beyond what they've read on your local listened to on your podcast. That's usually a sign up. The timing is right you also needs to look your mock in general and what sort of problems exist out there. That either aren't being solved by the books by courses by online programs. Oh just on being solved either extensively not all in a way that reflects kind the current state of your particular industry. It's really marrying a demand and the need within your market with a following that you have built up whose needs allying with and where you can serve them further within. So can I know my membership? I think if you haven't got a following usually you're going to find it a lot harder because you can have the best membership in the world but if you've got nobody to promote a two and you haven't got a kind of a focus group in sums of an email list you can get feedback from. It is going to be much tougher. My. Let's say we feel that it's the right time to start a site now. Let's dig down to the basics about. How would we actually go about getting started? Wow that is a another big one I really. I think the first is talking to your organs really drilling down into the coal problems and it's important that emphasis on the word comb if you ask a bunch of people. Hey you know what you need help with right now. China's AW allowed. The answers will be fairly superficial. Don't actually get to the heart of problems. They are having what obstacles they are facing. One of the goals. What are they designed? What's the bigger picture for those people really really isolating? The problems that you can solve I think is the first point and I was free so says a lot of ideas there to flesh out of viable idea full. What could become? You'll membership committee next stage of that really is to validate your market by selling them. Something so the May have already bought one of your books if not try and sell them your books. If you can't compel people to pay ten dollars fifteen dollars for a couple your book save. Go five hundred people on a name list and not one of them is willing to work with ten bucks for one ago books then you probably going to struggle to sell them a fifty dollar a month membership. You kinda need to validate the market both in terms of do people how problems that I can solve. So that's the first two is the solution that I could provide to them a good fate three. I compel these people to actually put the hand in their pocket and pay me to solve their problems and the best way to build a piece of the equation is by selling them. Something smaller I determine if they were buying market to determine whether you even like selling things online to this audience and to verify your understanding of the problem and solution match is actually accurate. That idea validation is definitely the most important step before you. You even get into looking at what you'll membership by consists of and how you might handle things on the technical. And all that Sorta Mike one of the things that POPs into my mind is that people are not necessarily sure what that core issues are frustrated about certain things or they feel. They have certain problems but they may be superficial to would actually the real issue is. What are your thoughts on that? You've got to ask them more questions. I can't remember if it's six sigma with the idea of a five wise. I think this is completely ripping from memory but the notion that you have to ask at least five. Why questions to probe deeper and deeper deeper was your number one problem right now and someone can give you the answer. Okay well why is not something that as impeding your progress and from that answer Biz? Another Y and there's another white and you have to keep probing Rothman taking I onto that again now. Obviously that requires more than just kind of a blanket. Approach TO GATHERING FEEDBACK. It requires more than simply sending an email out your list saying complete the survey or hit reply to they say mail and tell me what the number one finger struggling with right now is arranging to get on the phone. Get on a zoom coal. Get ON SKYPE WITH FIVE. Six people who kind of match the profile of what you believe to be your ideal customer your ideal member and having those conversations having those deeper conversations and asking questions and listening not leading them towards essentially kind of just giving you what you want to hear but really gets to the heart of it you say. You're thinking of starting up a membership to help aspiring office to keep a topical example. Then you might be looking for feedback on obstacles. People are facing and getting their book south on so you know somebody might say okay. Well I'm with my at just get a finished on. I really struggled with writer's block fantastic song points to be able to just probe deeper and deeper and deeper and deeper to find where those routes problems are and the more of these conversations you have. You would imagine certainly if you've kind of got consistency amongst the people you're attracting your old. You'll start to see patterns emerging from that you'll have a wealth of information to them build on when it comes to figuring out what the real struggles what the real obstacles. What the real things get in these people's way and how can I create something that takes them through that journey guessing through those obstacles ensembles

How Chelsea will line up vs Arsenal
"Program affirming league matches over the next seventy two hours. Big Tomorrow Chelsea against also at Stamford Bridge. We focus on Chelsea because it really me has been quite a roller coaster. Franklin pod side over the last few weeks they just can't get any sort of consistency going. Frank Leboeuf let's start with view is a former Chelsea man. How concerned are you with that form of late? I'm not too much concern about the fact that Chelsea he has no consistency Because of what happened last summer the fight it couldn't get any a new player. Franklin pod with a young coach as many young players in the squad. And and of course you're going to find an experience in that in that matter and for me just normal to see after Boxing Day player need to digest the fact that they are to play too many. I need to many games in the short show. Timing so I'm not surprised. A little bit frustrated sometimes especially against Newcastle. They saw the game. And then you say Oh my God. Yeah Yeah they should have done better. Of course he can do better every time better but Nobody could have bet jussie could have been do know fourth Even in January five months ahead of bunches to united and some other clubs. So it's not that bad but consider that you have what joining you you can t willion as very experienced top world players. Otherwise very young gems mount police each Arab labral Doi and some and some other. So it's just normal to suggest strugging little bits at some point but but I think it's stealing from me a positive season and a good season from Franklin pollen the players. Well it depends. I suppose on how it all ends. Isn't it because as much as he's gone gone in good grace considering the start of the season. You're in a position now. Where Really Champions League has to be your goal considering as well? Let's go number on the uniting right and Spurs and also Latin mass which you talked about before you wouldn't talk four. I understand he's done well. But Cohen you need to get over the line. Yeah absolutely it's good to be an optimistic and rightly so but at the same time I think frank of all the manages a thing he'll be the straight one listen asking we're going to need it. A complete rebuild united as we said a way off and I think frank will be frustrated because the losses at the bridge the losses against West Ham Southampton bomber loss loss against Newcastle last week. It's Jones Park. This team could be sitting in second they could be well. Clear and nailed on fought for so frank will probably be for straight because Frank Atlanta's John about it'd be frustrated because you'll be looking what's behind him and it'd be thinking if inconsistent and all of a sudden if spurs or United Wolves can really really good run together we might be then endanger missing out on top four so that will be a real concern. I do happen to find some against at home so a little bit of a contradiction I know but awesome in great form under medical arts. Only one winning five. They look very flaky leaking goals of fun and I think this might be the ideal game for Chelsea. The last thing they would've would've needed was a was a tricky tie against someone that's going to sit in and that's why they've struggled. I need more goals from areas so I think this type again going to come at them actually might suit Chelsea going frank quickly. Yeah just one. To two done of course is frustrating and of course Franklin Paul can be an could have been better but again you know when when you see when we talked we can talk about mentioned saination and we did a lot of time in every shows that we do when you see us and as you said you know. Shrugging you can wonder you know if it's not something positive. Don't forget that Chelsea is still in the Champions League so it means a lot you know with the young and experienced players achieving. What Franken Capote's doing right now is something for me and I think we try to de mean what is doing and what the players doing? And we can't have too much into to team who does well overall doesn't know what is the biggest level. Yeah I think I agree the same time. When you look at the squad's that are going for the top? Four take take months in Liverpool at the equation Chelsea of the best squad. Another young still got in my opinion. The best squad at of all the big teams trying to get in the top four in you mentioned the goalkeeper who's not ungrateful got good defenders. James is a very promising play until you ruediger. That is one of the Best Senator Offs in my opinion the League. Then you go into midfield and we talk about Canton Coverage Georgina. They've got the talent in our no. Franks looking for someone. That's going to score them. Goals Dell's because Williams hasn't got too many to shine. That put a sixteen injured but the looking for more from Hudson adopt more from Pedro who hasn't started to many games so anno- is quite happy with is the front man that he's GonNa bring crust strike or of course but I know that he's looking from goals in a wide area pre in the studio call him Lampert. BFF Traffic Birth Frank. They were talking about we. We've gone too much time. Well I don't Care Chelsea we'll just stay on whether we can move the break then whether we sit here and talk show scar till the coast. Come home until I know the different because the transfer of Baden Lost Eden is odd. But Let let's. It's not cry about all that stuff. We're talking Solska with heads injuries and has job frontline. Pop cannot escape scrutiny. If Chelsea I self destruct and overtaken by this horrible united site or will or maybe even taught them lit run so he can't. We cannot judge and sit here even save source guys not necessarily as a Frank Lampard. Doesn't get them into four from the position. Then I'm afraid and he's going to have to come his way who wins tomorrow. Chelsea Elsie to catch up with more HISLOP's fascinating musings. Writing on the Wall: a revealing British-election hike
"Britain is bracing itself for an election next week tonight prime minister. Boris Johnson will go head to head in a televised debate baid with opposition Labour leader. Jeremy Corbett the snap vote was called in attempt to resolve an impasse over brexit after more than three years of arguments in Westminster her over how to leave the European Union the debate in London and Brussels centers on Britain's relationship with Europe and the rest of the world but how much does that concern most host Brits and after all that wrangling what did they think of the options. They'll have on the ballot paper next Thursday to find out. Our correspondent decided to go for a walk. There are a few stones haring there but mainly. It's just trudging through muggy field. Let's sing it's a rather bucolic countryside. A goal actually stopped eating Newcastle itself in instinctive sustain give Newcastle which is the kind of tradition the industrial heart of northeast England where I used to be shipyards under still remnants of heavy industry today so why did you want to go to this particular part of the country as it t election battleground precisely. Let's see because it's not actually political. Pundits elections for various reasons tend to focus on marginal constituencies might change China's next week. Actually I want to go back to Northumberland where I grew up because it has eight seats almost all of which Pretty sad not to change hands next week. Most Britons live in pretty safe seats which doesn't mean they have interesting things to say about politics but they tend to ignore action towns for obvious reasons so I thought it would be interesting to the Westminster bubble. This bitch going joining us walk and try to find out what they were thinking about. Brexit Andrew Connection. So so. Where did you start your parental relation? Ironic crying hang on. It's just too the way you do the sport you know you come into it. Says how important the words the last night was so cool and and and just to go back to back is real. I'm just to be on speechless. The year has not been without controversy. McLaughlin spoke about what it has been unlock since baptist. Yeah it's been it's been hard. It's hard for me because mom and Dad and Kelly and my sister so you know they They probably feel the pine moving to and And it's not not on it some for what for me. I felt we did a really good job. I felt like I'd try to the best I ever have. But you just signed on as you can't win with some people and you've just got to accept that and unfortunately it's how it is in the sport you just get used to it but I just hope next year all of us can come into the sport with bed perspective. You know I feel like we can be better role models for not only Bantus. It is great we all do it. I just hope we can come in with better perspective and bitter Be Bit more. You know have an idea of just being a professional oh for for not only our sport and the job is coming through but also for drivers out for other sports and athletes around the world. And I think we can really lead for example is teammate his Fabian Coulthard. He had two podiums across the weekend and he spoke about the difficulties. The team was going through at the end. Did the season makes you stronger. That's for sure but you know what's going on and everything you've got a somewhat put behind you you know wearing control all of what we can do in the rice guy. Everything that happens externally we have no control of so You've got the wife You GotTa remember those people that commenting come here and watch US rice cows for a living. Jamie had better tall off in that first in but Yeah the strategy worked out enough in Saturday's rice prime for the whole red bull racing team to have a one two but Jamie Wing Cup made an uncharacteristic terroristic mistake late in the race that allowed the two. Dj Our team penske cows through his teammate. Changes Bergen talked about how easy it is to make a mistake. When you're in a controlling position yeah and that stuff happens when you're just cruising not on the limit you lose focus you know it's good to be comfortable out front? Always stop thinking about other stuff and slowing down. So it's really. That's the hottest Tom Sti- focus when you've got nothing to push for so it's a real shame to make a mistake that I'm sure he'd be kicking himself and come back strong Kamar on Sunday it was jamie wing caps to lead the field. Oh Hi Jamie. We'd cab was the victor on Sunday afternoon at Newcastle. He spoke about what the was like for the Red Bull Hall and rising. It's been a tough year for red barrage and we tried to. "We know that This year we have seen Scotty McLaughlin set a benchmark and set a new standard for where the number of Rice wins in a season. I think it's eighteen of the thirty at this stage With another to come and he's also set a new qualifying standard with fifteen poses. Yeah I think the previous record was thirteen That Scotty has in fact one. Two of the full races were held at Newcastle. macos is only the third year we've been there with the series With he's one two and both win cup and riddles one. Well obviously the the the target from civic houses to reduce the Danforth parts of the ten fifteen percents They've sort of you know about the mandate from the commissioners to do that just by modifying Existing parts on the couch or lowery we angle and changes to Gurneys or filling in under try at the Front You know if the intention is not to golf design completely new era packages. Just Choon. What we've got this down to a lower level? The theory is that that will improve the the racing Tom Tell with that. That's the case. It's that's certainly a lot of people's opinion. We'll see what happens. Okay yeah you know what happens sometimes with popular opinion. Sometimes I work in sometimes. I know it's a general trend around. The world is talk about reducing. Aero whether it's Formula One Nascar Sara. Where do you think that that will have an impact at the end of the day? You can't really put us in the same context of From London indie cab because we have very very very very little danfoss. You know you hear all the stories about a Formula One car. It could actually run upside down because he's got that much danfoss. We've got a pittance of that. We have a little bit of Danforth's on cows and we have a dragged number as well. In fact he could argue drags probably the more Khurram biggest contributor Dan force because if someone can do two hundred ninety five Dan Conrad and someone can do. Three Hundred K's Dan. Conrad does that noticeable the difference between the cars so I think drags a big part of that as well but you know part of the reason theory test as well as for Super Kazu. Redo the alright tested was done. Twelve months ago you thought of the time they They had a good Eric Test. But I think they've learned a lot of the last twelve months and the why this next Arrow tests will be done. It's got an adaptive adaptive dampers on its Rather than a single single rod hot. I'm the Cadillac. Should should be measured at three different angles. I think they've learned a lot this year and so the tools that they've been developing this year. It will help them do a much better the job of the era. So it's as much about redoing the Arrow to a Let's just I normalize it and spend a lot of uh stuff done with safety. But we're now that Sony tool you know. The best test is actually gone. Redo it all again at an Infield with the new the new system. They've got out and hopefully we have little parody. The reason no changes in twenty twenty. Okay could you put a number on Ways you think the FDA is below where the Mustang is now in terms of the amount of my role. downforce could you put numbers on that gets assigned. It's aside okay in These talking about for next year. You Know Downton Fifteen. You said So that would put it below with the FDA Morrison absolutely one hundred percent. I mean to effectively. The head be was benchmarked against the F. X.. And then sorry the the FDA X. was sort of the item for the match at the end of two dozen Knighton and then the FDA became the datum for the Mustang the benchmark again at the end of You know twelve months later. I'm only going to be slightly better. uh-huh affectively the diatoms in theory haven't changed now. I think it'd probably the engineers of both marks have done a good job of you've of I wouldn't say masking but Developing more efficient era packages over that period it. And that's why she because of decided they needed better tools to be out of Cape Up with the smart plugs up and down the line Sherifi Yukos's looking pretty quick Obviously by the joy and the weight would just say the two since. God wants to come on. You're going to five hundred tomorrow. Look bad the triple eight cows of the legs on us this weekend. You know the have done since. They got their Their era upgrade for Kelly. So you know. That's that's making the job harder and that's what we're looking forward to the test at the end of the year as well so I think it's But they've got very strong job at Barings as well because I'm here very ron. Just doing Barry Sheldon Arabists Motor sports and Kusa in charge of warning that Twenty twenty Arab because things need to change. Yeah I think brutally she and Kathy categories are in the world or reducing era trauma. The rising better that makes us better makes more people so we need. We've got white say at the moment. And that's obviously a product. Mustang introduced with too much and and then not being able to reduce it easily and cheaply off that we had and make the commodore better yet. They'll just end up with way too much okay. We have ten minutes here on what happens for the cows the one in front and then following what happens if the car in front and overseeing the steps the more and used the also the cap on life and reduces the cabin and Beth is the drive is coming they felt like jt three cups. It's just too much guy sick. And how foster the rice at bathurst before shows that we have taken a big step forward. Yeah well the parodies pretty close now. we just stayed everything reducible next year. Sorry tired after the first of all commissioner. The board by after ratifies to what we need to do. So you get a chance to put your views. sward elaine are not really the homologation teams So the jets penske red will have to come up with a solution that Zucchero except and then do the advocates tests which of these tests the test Sierra properly. But we've never done that properly between Adrian and Campbell little. I think think they've got some really good systems vice. Why the tests because they started we'll be out of really accurately get the Iran including in you also guy rank on us I'll constraint long okay? Is it a pretty uniform view amongst fit line into the team owners is that I think is the most of it technical co paypal involved in eighteen. They all agree that it's GonNa make a change. And hopefully we can all give input with the SEGA. 'cause from the Satanic in one of the agencies sure makes teams in that they can have a view on that the stance sip chasm allegation teams at the end of the day to make the decision to get it wrong on. Thank you one of the things I just want to talk about was Newcastle..

"Time guest to the show this man is responsible for love American racing he was part of the old eighty or one of his favourite beds is the box and not only is he abetting genius he's also one of racing's nice guys it is my absolute privilege to welcome to the show Barry Faulkner on bushing onto one suit box exact barry it's about time you made your debut in the final furlong my friend India and great to have you onboard as well looking forward to your thoughts your expert thoughts for what should be too exciting nights of racing on sky sports racing and you can hear in the background making his little giggling cab can be over the last five years we've been doing this together so we have to have the main man on board Pete Foreign it's Al from sky sports racing welcome back and it's a pleasure to be here that was my first final Furlong podcast ever back in twenty fifteen when I was living over in London then and I think back to that very fondly going from being a regular listener to getting to be on the show on a regular basis it's always a pleasure and I'm happy to be here no you're kind man my friend and it's good to have you aboard as well we couldn't do this without your insight as well and speaking of that let's get a brief snapshot of things are we go in there because Santa Anita is normally gold for the Europeans I think this is the record amount of time that track has has held the Breeders Cup but opean runners have never gone away from Santa Anita empty-handed there have been some tracks where we struggled but entries are down this year the pre entries were down the overall European and particularly UK and Irish representations down the obvious exceptions this is Brian and is this is to do Peter and we discussed this in the final film podcast earlier in the season with some of the difficulties some of the series difficulties that sent any face regarding fatalities because let's not forget it was only a few months ago that the Breeders Cup themselves had a meeting to decide whether or not sent an easy would keep it and at the time the word was it was going to be taken off them have things been sorted out and is there still a little bit of nervousness in the air ahead of the biggest meeting of the entire year to be honest I hadn't thought about the welfare issues as a reason why the euro participation is down I was thinking it was somewhat ran them but it's not it's not a crazy thought but I'd like to think that with all effort that's been made in California on you and with California racing together this surface right and say that if that if that is the underlying reason that that that's a erroneous Yes eroneous logic I'd like to think that we've got a service that we was going to play hopefully in a manner that's fair and most important Paul safe over the two days of the Breeders Cup and for the remainder of this fall meeting at Santa Anita well the fact that you haven't been thinking about it tells me that the been less issues lately they've hopefully then iron things out so that should be good barry what are your thoughts on it we donated with the West Coast the entries this year the same level as a two years ago in Delmarva we've got one more race this year significantly down on the entries interest for the British Company in Kentucky last year I doubt in general I think it's a disadvantage for horse shipping California hosted Slip Shipping East but they do that so relative time there's an east coast and they just as far as the truck goes treated hundreds from work and they've done significant amount and hopefully they will have resolved issues they undoubtedly how dealer in the year the cause of the lack of interest from this year I don't really think civilian position to say okay well hopefully things are all aren't out and we can be really excited about the race meeting I genuinely am the other thing to talk about is pace and draw bias because there's definitely draw bias at Sente- Nita impeach you've got some big about that well it's what we're trying to hit a moving target addressing this issue but I think it's something worth considering part of the safer surface I was talking about has to do with the the rail not being gene the place to be more typically in American racing in twenty twenty and we've seen this at a lot of places and it's not super consistent but I mean like Saratoga for example the inside was really not where you want it to be much of the meat now we don't exactly know what it's going to be like for the Breeders Cup something we have to pay attention to because it is very difficult down on the inside you got some short priced favourite to ordinarily I'd like quite a bit core drawn down there but as with all time you try to play the bias game at my friend Mike Baloney the professional horse player says if you WanNa dance with bias you best do so on your toes and that's very much the case but what we've seen at Santa Anita it's very unusual typically good inside means good things for speed and bad inside means it's easier to come from off the pace but what we've seen at Santa Anita this meet on Sundays is as part of the the surface also there's a lot of kickback and it can be difficult to close so you wanna be up towards the front but you want to be up towards the front and not necessarily down on the inside now whether not this is going to be the go forward to be the case for the Breeders Cup I'm not GonNa make any assumptions about it but I'm going to be looking for it and I'm going to act quickly and upgrade horses on I'm talking about the dirt of course horses on the dirt who are going to get that kind of preferred trick and what about you would you be reacting than in real time as well because I remember Breeders Cup where I think it was the year in Vizor won the Breeders Cup classic he was the exception to the rule but everything drawn on the inside like almost if you were on the dirt install water still to you immediate advantage for whatever reason the way that was playing out so I know that you've been studying for the last week or so barry and particularly since the drawers been announced yesterday and today but will you be reacting in real time to how the draw plays out on the night on Sky I think the key thing looking oh bison shifted very very careful because we know sort of simple Harlem hospital you know you'll get a show class FA across favorites join inside wins by St and some inside draw boss that's not indicate indicators you get along show them means how to take on they didn't hangs around and then finishes a close fourth that tells you that the drill by so you hundred very careful how you look at the data it's being presented you you call you see what you're saying if there is the current vice that let's stay alerts and try and take advantage so that we can get maximum gravy so over the two nights all of it live on Sky I've got a brilliant promo to pray at the halfway stage here but let's get straight into the Breeders Cup juvenile turf sprint I'm almost afraid to say the name for the reaction from Pete Four Hundred L. Kamari dear we've got four wheel drive the good as we are getting a decent price seventy two but the terribly unlucky horse at Royal Ascot four wheel drive is currently a best price of nine to two if you look at the races dot com there's allie making the trip over to represent the Europeans to be fair that's for seven Crisford with old friend Frankie Dettori on board as well so there are the three that had the bedding was the awards what are the representation Ena Brian sending over King Neptune with Ryan Moore who will be writing all of his main hopes for the week Barry and I will talk about the group one I stakes which would be run at Newcastle just before we move on Saturday that's a fascinating races has been reopened but Kamari was your goatee the horse for Roy Alaska he's too from to since he has been he was a long odds on favourite in one of those races short price favourite and the other are you sticking with the my friend she's the real deal Kamar very impressive as you pointed out did everything but win at Royal Ascot on ground that she didn't love and has looked so good in the starts since particularly in the last day showing new dimension coming from last I I had ripped up my ticket practically after they broke from the gate at Keeneland that day figuring out what you can't win from their managed to get the job done anyway and has looked very good in her track were park as well she worked out with down for nowhere the other day and really went to the toying with bound for nowhere in a work and then all he went and did is run a massive time figure in an impressive victory in his race last week I think she sitting on go I think she's square price four wheel drive is another ward runner who is very talented is actually done better on the clock Kamari has I plan on getting Kamari to win yes and I'll play a forecast exact with a four wheel drive over Kamari to back that up in just taste. I'm very curious to hear what you guys think of alley as a potential one to upset the apple cart I just don't know I love him I I don't know how well he's going to be sued by this by this configuration of the very sharp five furlongs around dead but it's Kamari from me

"We'll champion jockey die young fellow that grew up Donnie? Do we see Myron Your Power Jimin Mandy and lived on a bit of property now thirty on us to use a guy you get voted world champion Jockey to was that a surreal feeling to flaw in applying I've of the of the world and accept that trophy all songs I was yeah I didn't think a bit on gas really on Lean obviously that time off back of winks Korean that's interesting have the voting is done online obviously they pick the top one hundred group on writers What I nominate one hundred group one races as the top one hundred of outings don on that system and of course God winks win sort of I I it rises seven group once and then she came back and won the next ye so guide me a little bit of a saloon passage Gina the point scoring the apart from that they'll have a great I think two or three one winners in Hong Kong and of course that Japan cop at the end of the wasn't amazing evil clean I'll never forget it I mentioned you're thirty nine years if I do you have talked to reflect or just too busy seven days a week rice rotting and and rotting away may like winks you don't really get Tom to reflect as simple as that forget yesterday move onto the next day on very much looks forward not backwards anyway But I did tight Tom as we all know off two weeks as retirement to two months off we employees indeed and that did give me Tom to reflect not only on Wync spit on myself and my family and I think you know there was enforces might for myself in those closest to me other laws for we for that success to be able to happen and you know we won't get and later in the show but that's one of the reasons that Japan Cup win was you know very very special to me every will dive into wings a little bit later on but he started you apprenticeship with Rawson but Beth ninety seven you kicked in where you're a natural joke no it wasn't very far from it does natural horsemen natural raw reading how law I can remember the Pony Club from before school up until I define and up until the I just started right shorting really and at the idea of wells Lawson's windows fief doing in the school holidays and fortunately my parents had all the allman had a little bit of an association with Billy Ass Browse through through the eyes of when Neil Molly was trying and bill used erode from a grandfather father and he's waffling and trying to of course and was the leading trainer in the Central District at the Are Yeah I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to go with them and having billy as mentor and a God was instrumental in more development as a jockey because as I said it was very unnatural to me because I'd never had really any any experience in the professional sort of horseracing had Google's at the guy was fosters you could when you're young fellow on great holes for night absolutely tight control and bought with you but you can learn so much experiences remember I began with one and let it rip you thought all that adrenaline at the I was actually in the Paddick Moore other with the main and I didn't quote now what else in for to be honest when we winner in we've done a favorite a half pice together but we'd never really let one go yeah I'll never actually forget that the win going through the skull Cap and was a bit a little bit fraud to be honest but you'd left the Albanian edgy he was distant well he sort of went off before he saw Moore horse teams but all wasn't quite ready for the experience as a bit yeah also bit it goes through but it was something that certainly got more adrenaline going and students today who'd you love who'd you love growing up we gotta have role models to simulate the why we want to go about it and get your first period Jodi get your new helmet and then all of a sudden you rod in trawls as an apprentice then you get your ticket who is sitting back on the couch just white and have that I the rice is in Washington going to be that jockey wouldn't be Rice's Darren Beadman Darren beadman and billy I suppose when I was in Ba'athist but before I started my apprenticeship Darren and shine door were dominating the group uh-huh and I were the two that really captured more attention what was it a bad behavior in that you loved just the just he's strengths and he's consistency but as I said it as a four thousand fifteen year old I wasn't really paying attention local would these days but I guess the success and the fact that he in China just come on the best drawers and it was just tit for tat as to who got on the best one and I almost took it in turns chemically c'mon babe and left Android and slip it used to run a little bit short on up as underneath the chain the at the flower hey the billy Oughta look yeah I wasn't as attracted to the show on the white shine Reuters posed Darren because it familiar to say no little actual but he's a hall of Famer and he was very effective at it but familiar personally it was something that I couldn't see myself emulating Iraq and foot knee on Huey a lot of the guys Roy with the bull the Atto side that's Moi that's more for the ball at the guys across the Bolo Tie and that's the that's it what you'd like to rob with your foot running wise APP Well to be honest when I'll start to do that that's had billy road and that's sad download to in the early days I think he ended up running these telling you towards the end but certainly when all star he had full for me on but was always instructed Nelin certain terms they're all Mahfoud foot me on and that's exactly what I did and when I moved to see me after being to successfully easy and buses Leeann and billy we moved to Sydney in all of these more chance to develop into one of the big voice started drawing McCowan the on how to hold stumble was also Tallinn's actually that it just stumbled at the four hundred million American rain we can call Aubert's Hayden are truly believe foof four foot in the on or wouldn't have fallen off it so after six weeks on the saw lawns mirthless six weeks hurt mnay that welcome back back in and of never changed that was it suits you and your stall he say you move from the country the city it's a big big landscape China for you and fast hard but um took two thousand and nine nine year two thousand nine hundred eighty nine hundred ninety nine I should say in two thousand dollars rising seasons in two years year apprenticeship you become Laden apprentice you must have had great opportunities but made the most of it well how did great opportunity had a great granting hundred hundred wieners in the country opinion to Sydney to Rome Quinton in done in Raleigh June nineteen on as it was you just said and I had a great deal of experience but harm you had no country climbing provincial climbing to three kilo climate the city nail was the beneficiary of system charged with offenses which split the categories up to country provincial and city so a regained three kilo alantic provincials and obviously sustain the three kilo climate the country so that that guy I mean eighty winners decline that I wouldn't have had well it didn't have one on issues moved to Sydney so that that really opened the door for opportunity the deformity and yeah I'll think road at provincial Saturday meetings Kimmel Newcastle for four weeks once we got started within the ninety nine season and on the road three three trebles onto doubles and then of course the big boys went to Melbourne yep more opportunity in this in Sydney and had a great season winning the apprentices total exterior winners I think you might be able to help these sad Answer these questions what did we put apprentice on more Victoria and not in Sydney I think the cease to be different into the you've got more dominant China Zied me was even the case back then you had waterhouse and hawks dominating so if it suited them to use an apprentice I would but I tend to use the jockeys and that same sort of dominance has continued on in Sydney with a small number of China's dominating but also the realities the apprentices system in Victoria is far better than UCF wild north thing as much as writing ucs while I was gonNA heading every area that's one area that that all on the boards a working on but it certainly

When when they talk to them on the ship was out like a message like enjoy it while it what know joy the ri- while it lasts. I really do feel like that. And that's unfortunate because I feel like they have very talented writer's room. I think that the executive Shovellers from season to on have had a clear concise nation labor improved upon every season is yes now that they're not even apart across open. They don't get that bumping viewers either. It's not fair. It's it's the it's the most fun show in the having taken advantage of the marketing in on. I'm just so frustrated because I just want.
