"Gasol will join us and Kevin got a chance to speak with him I just a day or so ago and that we'll have that conversation about what Callaway is up to this year and that we say good morning to Kevin and Jeff Kevin we'll start with you good morning hours your week been here as our lives change it seems like by the day I feel like Bill Murray waking up to the Pennsylvania polka every day is groundhog day but you know it's been up and down I think like everybody's gone right I mean it's we try to stay positive you try to stay active and you know but you have those swings really god Jeez this this hit that hit and you know listen were only those were all the same boat it's taking on water but we're all in there together yeah I trying to bail it out I keep this thing afloat this is just your watch your pets in this country and I look I'm glad we're still we'll do the show because I I I think it's a nice diversion so I'll stop talking about all this global stuff will start talking golf right Jeff that's right yeah starting back up we start to get a little bit of weather here that makes you feel like you want to play now and I was gonna try to get out do a little social distancing golf myself this Sunday we'll see if the weather allows us and if the facilities you know what's going on it each the studies and only a little bit differently but I feel like it's a nice trying to start out you walk around a little bit circuit loosen that at least I think about playing golf I know the golf world around us a professional golf world golf where there are kind of eating away and feels like it's getting further and further away every every time there's a newsflash but some but I'm still excited to go out at least that at least play a little bit about myself yeah courses throughout western New York are opening and if your course that you like to go to or your club if you're a member at check with them not only are they to see if they are open but check with them as obviously as each club has their own kind of rules and regulations to follow throughout the normal golf season it also would with the social distancing time cab and up you know we're not going to go here and list maybe our personal opinions on it I think everybody would be an agreement like that for all of us that like to play and for those that are listing that may choose to play follow the state guidelines follow your courses rules some of your course might even take it to another level in terms of what they decide is appropriate and that we just want to encourage everybody beyond even the golf courses everywhere if you're going to be away from your home abide by the rule because if if you value going to a restaurant or park or golf course or anything that you might view at this time is some sort of recreation cab you don't want to ruin it for everybody and not break a rule that maybe could force that entity to shut down yeah I think that's important to look at we all love golf we love the current competition aspect of it the personal treatment of it the challenge in the social aspect of it it is a it's a great game you can play by yourself you play with others and and listen follow the guidelines don't ruin it for everybody else the last thing we need to see is somebody out on a course and listen a couple holes over being too close together pull the flagstick out I mean the courses that are open they've taken measures to make it easier for you to play social distancing distant golf and we're talking about staying six to ten feet from each other we all know what a six footer looks like okay that's all for your state if you don't know the length of the flagstick from words in the ground the top of the flagstick if you let it down to seven feet all right so just picture that circumference when you get the whole stay that far back if the balls are close to each other before you pot just stand by the side of the great let the other player pot out don't even touch the flag stick it you don't have to pull it out the golf a lot of courses I'm raised a couple up on some of put those pool noodles or some other PVC pipes of the ball's in fall the way down into the hole something a flagstick whatever I talked to one golf course operator public facility didn't put the flag sticks in living in the center of the green staggered times further apart instead of eight eleven minutes or fifteen minutes apart the detox walking no carts gonna pay ahead of time so there's no transaction pro shops are open clubhouses aren't open locker rooms are open not so be prepared knowing these things bring your own food go prepared for that bring some hand sanitizer with you just in case something happens you can immediately apply to keep yourself in your family protected I think you know and if you follow those things I think you can do it fine it's just my opinion I'm not telling anybody to go play it's your choice what you want to do if you want to take the risk yeah your expectations need to change and it is still spring I mean we are in the first weeks April so typically we're playing this time of year anyway your expectations will be a little bit lower but anyhow expectations changing it's going to be our thoughts I have is you know at least we get out there play who knows what golf will be like by the fall but if you can get out there and play you know take advantage if you're fortunate enough that you have the means if you have the time that you can get away and go do it I'm just gonna join the walk in and go from there and it it you know if the bunkers not rate so what movie six quarters yeah I have a party one of those new years anyway you guys play with me pickles up anyway so my you know indexes we going down all right and six what is the what and this is my last thing on this obviously some of the rules involved only one person in a writing cart for those courses that may have carts if you're able to walk my two cents is due it because there may be someone that physically can't walk and it might make them not be able to play and if there's there's going to be maybe less carts available because you can only put one person in a cart so if you're able to walk to sell everybody needs the exercise right now so if you're able to walk just go ahead and do it it'll allow maybe some of our older players or some other players that maybe can't we can't use the you know their legs fully to walk eighteen holes or nine holes or whatever they're playing the opportunity to still enjoy it and I think if we're all smart about this like we've all made these points here I'll golf can be an outlet for us during this difficult time I I think one of the important things and you know I don't think the New York New York state golf association was very instrumental in allowing courses to be open in appealing to the state but I think I I think the biggest thing in we well we know a lot of them listen to the show our superintendents on the golf courses on the golf course superintendents association the golf course superintendents even if the course is an open they need to mal they need to maintain the property or they can lose it quickly right Jeff and that could be the amount of money it cost to get it back what would be astronomical I I'd have to believe yeah that initial order I found a little off putting any because it's an asset you know it's like any other business owner you need to maintain an asset you need take care that golf course those greens can't go to the three to four weeks in the spring without being the talks during the body okay since we talked about that a lot so the superintendents are gonna play a key role but they're also probably doing it lower staff right now because you're not going to have a full staff you're not anticipating being normal amount of plate the the rules and the laws you know people some people are comfortable working there's a million reasons and it's really inspiring and they you know we there was so much so much smoke there we didn't know it was going on so they they had a week or two where they couldn't get on the golf course at that at the peak time year so they may be a little bit behind but you know it is still very early they'll get it going they're not in those jobs they don't know what they're doing that's for sure so just give a little bit of tiny screens up everything else start coming back you know somebody broke yes speak speaking of that when things come back went so let's say we get through this month of April and were able to get back to work but you know I I don't think things are gonna be just back to where they were I think we're going to play golf this way for quite awhile until doctors in science can figure out how to beat this thing vaccinate us and what things actually this did I just so it's going to change I think the way we play golf resort but I also want to say for the pros out there how they earn their living is by selling merchandise in the pro shops and so supported pros your club thank you at the golf course you go to it's how it's how they make their money so when they open up when you're able to get a golf shop go by shirt by Donna rusher to carry Donald Ross my simple golf shoes from there guy we went as a new era cap you know some work in our sponsors in their job we'll go do those things because that helps the families of the people who work in golf who make the experience so much better for us to play absolutely yes but since you know you can still take lessons to that year's social distancing what lessons is no reason you can't get better this year you know I I do think it's going to change how we play golf going forward to I think will be permanent changes to our game and everything in our society at the end of this that'll be different but they may not all that eager so you know let's look for the positive in it and you know get unless you get out there get your game back in shape and and enjoy it the stuff you can do it all so and in.

"And we're gonna talk some golf Brian welcome first and foremost exciting morning for you man will we'll dive into a little bit of your interview with Jon Rahm but be exciting for you guys to get to get to the the the the major winner on the I. T. degree this morning so that was pretty cool yeah you first of all do you know whether he maybe listen your show right now who knows but thanks to John around the that's right it listen radio dot com app you can listen anywhere you want that's right yeah he lives on the west coast so it's somewhat it's you know eight thirty years so there could be upwards and orthodox editing absolutely but now he I even played some phenomenal golf and kudos to my key to green partner Kevin Sylvester for making a few calls to get that done Kevin has had an opportunity to follow John around quite a bit for its up PGA tour radio work and reached out and they John was willing to do it and when you've been playing phenomenal golf is ranked second in the world at the moment and I think from watching him I think he's a fun guy to watch you've got kind of that shorter backswing but a lot of power and he plays a lot of emotion on the course which you know who hasn't played golf at some point been maybe a little angry at themselves when they backed up you know so I like watching reality either really interesting player and you have a lot of good things to say if you want to listen to it I just tweeted out about another I don't know ten fifteen minutes ago on my Twitter handle at Brian WGR the interview itself this morning with rob but yeah he he's a cool story and a nice guy to talk to yeah but I know I wanted to talk a little about local golf but I and we're gonna get into some of the national landscape let's talk a little bit about the national landscape first while Rhonda Jon Rahm topic in I'm interested in your thoughts and I'm sure you guys had an opportunity I have got to listen yet I'll probably do that after the show today it just interested in sort of the overall feeling the players have right now based on the fact that Hey for the most part these guys have the resources to get out they continue to practice it's not like all of them are stuck in the northeast where it's raining and cold they have no real opportunities to get out and continue practicing to stay sharp but I imagine that especially in golf maybe more so than any other sport that habit that you know things you do every day really are important for these guys and the fact that things are so different right now I just wonder what that does to guys who are really like I I think when you look at players some of them are rhythm and an infield players what that might do that type of player that there's this large break in between the season absolutely I mean I think golf probably right at the top of the list of sports that if you you are a guy that the old with rhythm and routine and practice like you need to hit balls and bistros obviously get ball pretty much every day of their lives have their life and you know like you said the majority of them you know lucky them they've earned it they have that may be their own home facility are either with the simulator or you know some of them actually you know have a driving range even set up on their own property themselves so there or at least you know a mini version of one that they can hit balls and short game area I'm sure in a putting green some of these guys even have on there you know in their homes right now wherever they're living so I'm sure that they're able to do at least a decent about of what they've been able to do but obviously no competitive play with anybody at this point I I think you know this this break right now for some they can view it as a benefit and I'll start with Tiger Woods we have course no he was planning on playing in two events before the the sports world shut down including the Players Championship which of course played the first round and then eventually they call that due to the core of our corona virus situation he was supposed to play there all intents and purposes the play the Arnold Palmer invitational the week in front of it but in fact it was just not feeling up to it so the great may have come at a good point at least for tiger physically in the sense that his back could be something that maybe was gonna drag on and now he's got a chance you really have an extended opportunity to get well and physically still better not for would I bet he had to feel pressure to get back out there because as we all know next week we're going to be the week that he was gonna go to Augusta national try to defend the title and I'm sure he would have wanted to give himself an opportunity to defend it and being a hundred percent well would he have been next week at Augusta who knows but he obviously wasn't two weeks ago so this you know for that that maybe give him a little break also tiger has said publicly very much that he wanted to play in the Olympics he knew this is probably his last chance to do it with the fact that the summer Olympics every only go every four years another four years from now you know tiger is getting closer to fifty then you would be forty and right now he would be in that group and that top three of United States representation but he was barely hanging on to that last spot he knew you know what I have to play well enough to earn enough points to stay to represent the United States to go and if he was going to be out with an injury that could cause an issue of him keeping his spot locked in so for tiger individually I think that's worked out really well another big name player Brooks KEPCO who had some surgery during the offseason he had not been playing well and he had admitted he was playing even though he wasn't a hundred percent so this could be that's another player that we know probably has been the best player on tour over the last two seasons that it least for physical reasons others break actually might in terms of how the golf either played out whatever we get back get it might improve their actual golf outcomes Brian talk a little bit about you know I think the common thing and might not know exactly what this means maybe for a lot of the sponsors a lot of these tournaments that happened every year and it for a lot of these I mean we're talking about the local economy of a lot of these places expecting thousands and thousands of people to come and spend money not only at the golf course but to stay in the communities around there how much do you think this is ultimately going to affect the PGA and a lot of their sponsors and partners including a lot of these golf courses around the country it definitely affects the area that hosts an annual event count on that we don't host a PGA tour event here regularly in buffalo but I'll give you an exact compatible example of when the NC double a tournament comes here we know that there's you know tens of thousands of people that come in from the other schools and visit the area hotels and restaurants and shops and stores and they say they talk about how it brings in millions to the buffalo area so you know in comparison an average PGA tour event that might get lost somewhere in the twenty to thirty thousand spectator range you know that is compatible to maybe what would be at NC double a tournament basketball game with people coming in from work making millions and millions of dollars now beyond that fact of what it does to the local economy you mention the sponsors and things like that all week and the weeks leading up to it there are so many events in the community and the surrounding area golf course where they have these charitable events that you know there's a meet and greet with you know certain you know fill in acts like the player that raises money for this charity and then there's a a book signing with this player that that raises money for the best and then you know there's a celebrity appearance by someone stole that from the tournament that comes in and they have a dinner and they raise money for this event you know I I was reading on average that they said that there's at least two to four million dollars raised for charity that every event on the PGA tour calendar when they go from there and I'll stop to stop week by week sell all these events that have been canceled I mean it's not only millions of television dollars million the sponsorship dollars million cities communities which is probably the one that you would feel count on it more than anything and these charities at the PGA tour to such a good job with a billion in southwest and giving out money every week they're all losing out so I mean this add this to the list of the many things of what we talk about that you know the situation that we're dealing with right now is affecting people and you know we know for some people right now this is a very very serious situation so I'm not making light of that but it definitely charitable events and local economies where there had been a PGA tour event they're gonna hit hard just add that to the list I'm sure of frustrating things that are happening Brian because you'll hear on the western hotline Brian let's let's kind of shift our focus to the local the local game here in buffalo and throughout western New York I know that's one of the things you guys really pride yourself on with T. degree in the morning show is making sure that each of our local clubs throughout western New York represented are able to pass along information that they are you know they growing and scaling each club having said that with most clubs now whether or not there were officially opened most of them are doing their best to keep their staff at a minimum in it and keep the people that work at the whether that's greens keepers or whether that's you know people that work within the clubhouse but they're really I know a lot of my club at prayer which are really trying to keep most of the staff at home so having said that this is peak time for courses to ready themselves for the spring and summer do you expect that because of the limited staffing that a lot of these calls courses clubs and public courses alike are having to kind of combat with that it may be have an effect on the preparation of getting their course is ready for the the start of the season yeah most certainly I mean I I think what we know in terms of things that are not essential for people that are interested in maybe getting some recreation and playing golf of course it is fun to walk around the pro shop yet but that doesn't need to be staff that's another person or two or three it doesn't have to come into work and put themselves in jeopardy so I believe that for the for the majority of the pros that I've spoken with and you know contacted other courses if the club is open for golf they're pro shop it's not going to be opened their restaurant it's not going to be open if you have a pool or any other sort of social area none of those are going to be open some courses are saying stilt walking only they don't even want to deal with carts right now I know that the United States I'm sorry yeah the the New York state golf association in terms of they had a a release on Thursday and in conjunction with the governor's office they said the golf courses can remain open like parks are but have to follow social distancing guidelines that you would if you were going to go to Delaware park but it's just every part got to be six feet apart from everybody I know golf courses some of them are playing without pain are those that have pins in it that you can't touch him most golf courses I believe of.

"Oh, think how hard it would be to have that dividend front of the golf ball. Then how much lateral movement you'd have to have to hit the ball. And then the turf. So check your ball position. You. That simple drill. Today's a great day. If you're out on the golf course you put three golf balls down hit the middle one. Check your David's. And if you're if you're hitting the turf, I check that. You're on your left post your left leg, or your Ford post, and that should help you compress those irons in hidden better. You see a lot of golfers. Maybe have that scooping, sort of mentality is, is, is what you're saying about looking for that dividends. That a way to avoid that. Yeah. Because guys told to ladies and gentlemen, that don't get on there for post they tend to go fishing. They flick at it with their hands and they're trying to help that ball into the air. We're good players are actually squeezing down into the ball. And you know squeezing the ball into the turf. You don't want your give it to be super deep, obviously, that means you're a little too steep, you can get away with it more with shorter irons and stuff like that. Can you came along? And so this is a great time of year to monitor your dividend, because it is so wet and you get such, you know you get a good feedback from your Divet this time of year. Kevin, you're a tour events all the time tour players iron shots sound different than regular players aren't shots. Don't Chris that word is crisp. Yeah. Yeah. You can just tell the quality shots. The sound is different rate. The sound off of the driver is different for Brooks kept good players. But the iron sound all pretty much the same. It's just. You can just tell us flush it, every nothing. Nothing beats contact. Right. Contact and on the sweet. But yes. Absolutely. And that sound when you sweet spot it is that, that sound that, that click, that is just fantastic. So and the other thing I just want to add Jeff vivid, if you, if you see a worm after you've gone to dean. Well, the worms are close to the surface water, right? Yeah. One guy told me if you can if you twist your ankle and your dividends. This is this is interesting. What do you guys do here? Niagara frontier golf club. Do you have the prefer guys? Replaced david's. Or do you have the sand on the card you prefer? They do that. We have sand on our carrots. But I always say if you can replace your debit replace your first visited will reroute re-grow quicker than than just plopping some standout. So look for your Divet replace your Divet, if your dividend explodes. Get the same bottle out fill up the by replacing a Divet. You should you should. I've been told us should stop it down. Right. Like put it in there. Don't just late in there. You got to put it down back in fact, yes. Yeah. Give it a chain of grow much, faster. And we talked about that on the range, when you take your on the range, you wanna take thin strips of David. So you have all like if you're hitting balls on the range, which you want to do is you have your I give it you put the next show right behind that David right behind. Right. And so you create strips the worst thing is when you see people scat. Under their dividend the range or take a big block. Those don't heal fast if you're going to Oak Hill next week. Go to the practice range, watch the pros and divot pattern. I it's a straight line from front to back there. It is not, you know, it's length wear, not this huge square. Oh with little strips grass in between those things. No, no. That's not how they do it. Right, Dan, will, I know Jake mentioned, some of the other great opportunities here, and some of the other things that you have to make things fun for members from the Gulf side of things. For those that may be wanna learn a little bit more about being a member here. What would you say to them? Well, again, it's atmosphere. We try to keep the atmosphere funding casual. That's number one first and foremost, we do run a great a Gulf program throughout the season, different type of golf events. Whether they're funding casual couples events, member mixers all the way up to very competitive club championships, invitationals, and such, we have a terrip. PJ teaching snafu myself into other PJ pros on staff for lessons group lessons junior, golf clinic is affiliated with the first year, western New York, we have a chapter up here and you know, we're always doing different things. Instruction wise. Last week, we had the New York state Golf Association down for US J rule seminar. So we're always trying some new things we're going to do something once a month fun involved with golf, and complementary to so are you busy next week with the senior PGA Jeff, and I are going to be there to help run things that, like, Jeff mentioned earlier. It's so cool when a major event is in your PJ section that we actually get to go in and help run the event. So I'll be up there on Tuesday and Thursday. In fact, and get the work the driving range, and I'm going to check their dividend. Yeah. What do you think about Brooks? Kepco what he's doing right now. At Bethpage Black, you, you guys were talking earlier about him saying that he knows that. So much of the field is kind out of it already. Yeah. And I saw an interview with Jack Nicklaus a couple years ago said the same thing. So the mindset that he has obviously, he's got the game he can hit it long. He plays tremendous. He can chip and putt. But he has the confidence in himself right now. I think you're right. And he is in and I don't know how many guys really get obviously tiger. Woods says Jordan Spieth has it at times, maybe Rory full Mickelson but to really get to that point. And you could see how dominating and majors now. It's incredible. How you get that confidence in yourself and your game. And that not get the nervous or anything he's going to be really tough to beat not only in this major, but Major's the come and to your point there. He picks half the field might shoot themselves in the footer, I we've always the mentality go out on a rainy day and golf tournament. Always thought. Hey, we'll have to feel doesn't want to be here because it's miserable or it's called, right? Well, I only got to beat half the field and, and he's kind of working off that mentality and, and just losing with confidence. I could imagine a bad shot is not going to face him. And this is the fast and people say, okay, well, I'm going to think about that in this tournament play at different over four day period. With kept us talking about that one day deal. True. Wondering anybody can win. Correct. Anybody? Come on. I just want to say that for guys rather. All I've got my opening event here. I only twenty guys at you've probably doing one day he's doing. He's talking about four days with a cut and the pressure of that a little different than you know what you can develop confidence you can develop confidence in your game. You know, if you're looking for the positives, or if you're working towards a goal or if you have a process, or some, you know, if you're one of those guys that every time you hit a bad shot. You're slamming your club. You're getting flustered. You're anchoring, those negative emotions and then that leads the negative. I mean there's science behind it. So you always wanna focus, you know, when you hit a good shot you on a replay that good shot in your mind time after time absorbed, the good shot when you hit a bad shot, shrug it off and just keep moving, and they all hit bad shots, everybody. Got they do just talking about his confidence. He shoots sixty three in the first round and people are thinking he's going to come back and shoot seventy seven or something like that. So he gets on. I it's four hundred eight yard par four. I haven't been the best paid you but he's got the stands right behind him. And he's going to tee off and he gets up there and he just rips one and he's fifty yards from the green. And so what that shows, you his confidence right there. And then he goes to shoot, sixty five. Yeah, yeah. It's pretty hard to back up a sixty three in a major with a you know how hard to back up a really good round for him. That's, that's a really good round. But he's a hundred of those really. It should have been sixty one. He missed like an eleven foot and a nine footer. He still not playing the power fives as good as others. On the course are he still says he has things to clean up and he's up by seven. Yeah. It's pretty amazing. I got things to clean up the shop. Yeah. My garage, nice golf show. I appreciate that. Thank you. Yeah. There's some good cool stuff in here to check it out. Do you have a nice view, too? So we have some Gulf Cartwright for you to if you guys want to play some golf after Kevin's got the clubs having. Some of us have to work. This is were that's research. That's right. Dan? "Andrew last thing in the we'll let you go because we know you've got to get yourself off this rule seminar. Ultimately, I know that's one thing that I feel like we've talked about quite a bit on our show on a weekly basis is how and I'm sitting in between here to PJ pros that I know are fully on board with this mantra. How do we make the game more fun? And how do we make the game in terms of pace of play better? And do you feel alternately like these rules? Check both boxes. I feel like there a good step in that direction. Just like with any, you know, any procedure where you're trying to adopt changes with multiple groups involved. You're never gonna get all the there in the first shot. But I think this is a monumental change. When you look at previous rules changes. So this is a step in that direction to help with that. But you know, one thing that the rules do now include his language to encourage ready golf and playing at a faster pace of play. So those are things that were always encouraged, but never really actually in the rules. So I strongly encourage our events ready golf as long as you're playing in a responsible way where you're not interrupting any other players. There's nothing wrong with that. Okay. Great. Andrew. Thank you so much for coming on and giving us some insight this morning. We'll hopefully maybe catch up with you at some point later on in the year. Good luck today. Thank you. All right. Thanks, guys. Thanks, Andrew Hickey from the New York state Golf Association. They're talking about some of the new rules for twenty nineteen. I didn't mean to speak for both of you there. But I I am I'm stealing. Your your words of many times. You guys are always interested in making it more fun improving places to play right? Yeah. And I do believe they made a nice step mccaskill, it's it's gonna be a biannual review now. Because are they expecting a lot of changes? Maybe let it take. It's take shape free two years and still do it the same way or they'll keep addressing him as they have with the with the tour events they've come out with some clarification on some of the fuzzy rules, but it's pretty interesting. You know, Tim we've been studying the rules for thirty years. We've been to the classes, and it was interesting to sit in the room with Andrew earlier in the fall as he covered the rule changes for a bunch of PG professionals. Very interesting. I like what they're doing. I'm not sure I'm a hundred percent comfortable with how to rule on all of them yet. But the seminars that we go to hopefully, and they've been studying here for well. It's upwards of seven years to come out. And with this rollout. Trying to simplify the rules from thirty four down to you know, in the twenties, and I can see this going even a little less. They've combined a lot of decisions the hard part for us is golf professionals as we have in our head different things. And you see Ricky making a mistake dropping it from his shoulder. It's just in our heads. It looks right to us it sold. The hard part is going to be trying to get to this quote easier situation for the rules, but that'll be the hard part. We're about to play in some tournaments coming up Brian. You're gonna play in a tournament your son's gonna be playing tournament. I think the younger generation now is gonna learn. Easier. Rules. Let's say not as much to remember. And that's a good thing. But for us. Yeah, they're playing currently and are about to play more unless you're just reading you may be going to a seminar. Reading the basic rules read just the major changes data certainly help on an everyday basis. I betcha folks come on out here. Glenn ochre play in any golf course. I just going to keep doing the same thing. They're the rules are similar to what people do any way you play with my dad. He's dropping it in the fairway anyway. So we might give it a fluff too. But. Even though the lies perfect. But I think it's more what people do and it does offer a lot of chances to speed up play. I mean that two minutes for a loss ball out of bounds rule. The, you know, not penalizing yourself for hitting some of them make a lot of sense. I do think the drop looks awkward. I wish they would change. What we we mentioned it two weeks ago Fowler said like it just it's such an unethical. He said, it's an anaphylactic sort of routine. He said he is we're supposed to try to make golf fund and hip, and you know, because that's obviously part of what he does. And he goes, I just I don't like it. But it into that point. I've been obviously, Jeff and I've been in many tournaments in and of those eight situations that the ball can roll into. I probably saw seven of them and had to re drop, and then when you re drop it didn't stay in that I had to place it this when you drop it for me. Those aren't really going to happen in most parts so it should help. Whether it helps pace of play. I'm not sure, but it's certainly going to be I was hoping they were going to get it, you drop it above ground or you place. It it might get to their some point. Because everyone does it. Anyway, they just take it out of the golf bag thrown over here. That's the general Saturday morning around seven seventeen here on TD green on WGN. Our live at glencoe golf course here in Amherst, I'm with PG pros Jeff medicine. Tim Friese Ryan calls here with you here on WJR. Thanks for joining us. Kevin Sylvester at seven thirty from the Players Championship. We'll get his thoughts. They're a really really good round from ROY McElroy yesterday. He's into the lead with Tommy Fleetwood. Who's had a very good. I two days Kevin was following McElroy yesterday. So we'll get a chance to hear what that was like to see that round in person. We're talking some rule changes here at Glen oak. And I'll still I'll ask you guys. Have you have you thought about keeping opinion about putting like if you're playing in a round where you're going to have to post a score? Like have you thought about where what you're gonna do when and keep it? Enter key take it out or I didn't think a golfer hasn't yet. I don't know. Yeah. I know it would be weird for me. But I'm growing more and more comfortable with the thought of doing it at first no one's going to put it in a six footer. A look too weird to you. Then you see all these tour players doing it. And then he hit a few parts in. Hey, it's not terrible Penwith at every course, the same. There's not a standard which. Pause. Sometimes if you have a wider one is that is that in more apt to maybe where the ball actually won't drop like what I guess, I'm wondering will you ever see the scenario where the ball will just be resting against the pin. They're not go down into the Cup. We've seen all kinds of flags and what they're made out of thicker sleeves on flags on depending on the height. There is a semi standard right around the whole where the ball enters. But if you listen to some of the tour fellas they're not going back. And I'm probably in that camp. I'm keeping the I'm keeping the flag in why do you think there was a two-stroke penalty years and years ago about if you hit the flagstick because it was an advantage. It wasn't a one-stroke Kelly was too. So I think there's a distinct advantage, and psychologically, you get something out of the corner of your eye. It's not a black hole. It's a flag. It's a target. It's thinner it's smaller aimed small small. So I think more people will take advantage of keeping that flag in and we're going to see it. I'm interested in the last all of Augusta downhill left a writer, and it's to win. Is you keeping the flag? I think they are. And I think they're standard standardized pretty much depends on tour. They're all using basic pin? The one thing that's interesting is if you ever go out and play and you're just putting around trying to play real fast. You're putting stroke is super free. When that pins in for some reason, it just feels a little bit. Hey, I got a little bit ever you just let it go a little bit more. And I think there's an inherent advantage there. Just that that backdrop that or that backstop that security that there was the flag in the whole that if you hit a little too stiffs, I think it'll free people strokes. I think I look at a guy like Adam Scott, he's been putting great. It's always been a Killys he'll for him. And and just something like that flagstick may have just put a little spark in their Bradley. Yep. Yeah. He's putting much better yet Webb Simpson. Adam Scott said that because of the of the pen, he's what you'd said Jeff that he said I just in playing maybe just a hair less break. And I'm giving you just a hair more pace. And he goes suddenly more going in for me. You start seeing them going. Yes. Yeah. You can be even your like, you're more aggressive on the next one and bang. It's again, all of a sudden Adam Scott's now playing great. But I think I'd take the pin out on short uphills. And there's certain situations where I'm going to pin. Still gonna come out. It just doesn't look right to me, you know, the wind's blowing and it's going back and forth or forward and backwards, and you might be distracting Georgia's used to that. And again, it's part of this process. But if everyone on a Saturday morning kept the flagging, I could see where that might increase a pace of play a couple of minutes. If everyone did it. Oh, I agree. Yeah. Hey, we got a minute or two here before we get to our first time out and then bring Kevin in from the players. Tiger yesterday. Took a seven on the island green at seventeen. The worst score tied. The worst score ever for him on a par three, but he played tremendously. Well, other than that score sixteen greens. I mean, if you if you make it. Cars that whole and he's four shots better. I mean, we're talking about him being in contention to maybe a chance to win this weekend. Not that. I mean, there's still two rounds to go anything can happen. But I mean, we'd be legitimately. We probably would have been starting to show today with a chance to win at the players this week. You've played that whole right? Jeff. I have what's that standing on the t you know, it's fun. It's cool. Yeah. It's just all the history that goes with that whole. It's not once you get there. It's not so daunting, especially they played the from the front of the TV eight nine hundred twenty yards. But it's really cool. You can the nice thing. There's what you can see can see seventeen you can see sixteen eighteen. So it's really cool. It was a lot of fun to be there. You know, we should have made the putt, but yeah, everybody does. But I want to get back some day and played again, I know the the slightly different grants this year because they are playing earlier compared to me with the overseas and stuff, but we played and we'd played in January. I think it was so today and tomorrow, I think the the winds have switched, and they might see north win there so seventeen and eighteen we'll we'll certainly play a little more difficult. So you're going to be you know, you're not hitting wedges. I think they're hitting more shots in even in the practice rounds. Justin Thomas was talking about if eating hitting a driver and a mid iron. That's interesting at eighteen. So I think that whole is going to play a little more difficult, by the way. Do you need to play good golf look at the two of the top. These guys are five eight if they're standing on their toes, the two of them. But what games they've got here at the players what what you can't determine who's going to win the Players Championship. It all not like Augusta these players here. Tommy Fleetwood intriguing look at look at Fleetwood. Look what Justin Thomas is done. In in contention for the last month mcelroy's been in contention for last month. And you're right. Nobody is six four to fifty walking out there. You know, it helps to maybe have Dustin Johnsons lengthened frame, but Brooks KEPCO some of the. Yes. That helps the Terminator, you know, you have the same problems with your time's getting into over your arms. Right. We share Taylor. Just so, you know. That's why we had to have the special Donald Ross clothing for you. That's right. That's right. All right. Let's step aside here from Glenn oak. The sun is out now. Jeff, yes. Yes. It's beautiful now. That's right. Beautiful day here. Glenn coming up. And.

"When it to be honest and trying to play hard go out there like the most. So. Yeah. So they're bringing them along. Slowly, you brought up a very good point that he had hand surgery the summer. Yeah. So they didn't get the benefit a lot of summer league game. Right. So as his fellow rookies took part of the summer league in about eight games. I think he missed because of his hand surgery. So he's a little bit behind but kept up in the Atlanta Hawks, they're rebuilding. So he should get a fair amount of playing time this year. I'm sure he'll do great. We were surprised to find out that Dottie Pepper legendary area golfer was not already in the New York state Golf Association hall of fame. I know so yes, he's being inducted. We're like, well, why is she not already in there is this misprint? Yeah. So they're inducting her on November second, and we're like she's not in there who's in there ahead of her. But she is going to be inducted. And so it's at Brookhaven golf course Puerto corners in on November second, and you can go online to get tickets, but certainly deserving honor one other thing flacco and testaverde's this is crazy. Yeah. So the quarterback for you. Albany is Vincent Tessa Verney not to be confused with his father, Vinny Testaverde. He's been playing there for the last couple of years and Joe flacco 's younger brother, Tom plays for Townsend and the two teams will face off this weekend at the university at Albany. So they're thing is not flacco versus Tessa, Verdy, whatever that's how that's what it's gonna look like. So they're both the quarterbacks varying themes NFL pedigree. That's pretty cool town this weekend. So I guess Tom Lycos doing pretty well thousands five and one and it'll be cool. And I guess the testaverde's come to many of the Albany games. You know next to us on this last game last weekend last weekend home game, and they're not like, they don't expect special treatment. They don't sit in the bottom discerning dang athletic director that his mother and grandmother were seated next to us, but they don't really blend in with everyone else. I mean this. Very nice. And stuff on very nicely at big rock on our hand. I'm like this lady. And then I didn't realize who she was until she started going. So that Saturday three thirty you Albany, tousands shocking. Kelly eight forty. Three one.

"Be out there. Yeah. I went in to be honest and. Trying to play hard go out there like the most. So yes. So his career is underway. I think it'll be a good one to their coach there a guy named Lloyd price. The new Atlanta coaches first year he says hers coming along, but they're gonna use him in slowly even though he's a first round pick. We know if talent we know what he's capable of doing. You know, he's learning the game speed the set schemes he's learning all that out on the fly right now. But we're seeing growth with them every every day. So the other thing that he's a little bit behind his teammates to sit out most of the summer he had surgery on his hand. So he wasn't able to play those games and summer league rookies were able to play. So he's a little bit behind, but he'll probably catch up. You know, you actually sent me this like how could this be? But Donnie pepper is going to be inducted into the state Golf Association hall of fame. How could this be well, she's not already in the hall of fame? That's what I was getting to the fact that we're like she's being inducted. How is she not already been in there for a year? What the hell? This year. So yes will join the ranks of some pretty phenomenal golfers. But I would have thought she'd already stand you gotta be kidding me. I thought she'd be one of the, you know, one of the longtime members, but anyway, congratulations to her. They're going to induct her officially into the New York state Golf Association hall of fame on November. Second Brookhaven, golf course. Porter porter corners little little bit of NFL, pedigree was gonna be at the U Albany television game. Yeah, interesting. So Vincent Verdy is the quarterback for you Albany, the son of Vinny Testaverde, and Joe flacco is younger brother, Tom. We'll play is the is playing for towels. And so you have you have the flacco is facing off against the testaverde's. That's pretty cool. Yeah. It is pretty cool. You know, it's funny. I was at the Albany game on Saturday and. It's Vincent Tessa Verney and his parents don't want any kind of special treatment or recognition because I'm like it was freezing. And I was wondering you know, where they were in the stadium. And this woman is sitting next to me, and she's got this very coda not a fur coat, but like big pink because it was breast cancer awareness game. And she's got this giant rock on her hand. And then she screams at my hat, and as MRs are staying in the stands right with everybody else special box upstairs with the F director or anything, and they just don't want any recognition because it's it's their son saying, they don't want any focus on them. You know, I've I've not been to the new stadium. How is it looks street? It's gorgeous. Yeah. How's how's Vincent playing this year? I think. Rough year. But. The chew games that I've into these play fairly well Intel state, I think if I read it right there were five and one then flacco Joe flacco brothers playing pretty well there, if you're an NFL hater, you're not gonna like this a lot of people said, I'm never going to watch the NFL again, due to the fact that I I don't even it's disappeared the story. Thank god. Because I'm tired of talking about but kneeling SIMS the media talking about it it gives away. So I I've said all along a simple solution stopped showing it stop talking about it. Let them do it. If they want to you don't show it and all the power, they can do what they want and the powers taking up. Gosh, I can't even tell you. He's taking a knee these days by my guess, maybe a couple of guys and a couple of teams might be. But it's been a total nine issue. But for that reason a lot of people said we're done with the NFL. It's disrespectful to the vets in the country. We're not watching but the NFL their their ratings have been tremendous so far this season and thinking it's interesting with the NFL they're kind of hard to measure because just because a household numbers. Maybe down doesn't mean that people aren't going out to watch the games because they can't necessarily get them on their own cable system. So they go out to watch multiple games at a Wilson eleven or mortels or at a place like where there's a lot of games on. So it's very hard to measure, the actual number of viewers and the other issue with overall TV ratings is that just because the overall numbers are down. I mean, the NFL still dominating. So if you look at the overall viewership across the board of all programs TV viewership is down because they're getting it from other sources. But when you still see the NFL and the top three spots every week with. If the Sunday night football and Monday night football Thursday night football and the lineups on on Sundays. I mean, you can see they're still dominating the ratings. I think I saw print out yesterday. It might have been the top twenty shows of the week. And again this week. It's like twelve of the top twenty five pre game shows game shows for all those people all ratings are down yet. You can spin it any way you want. But people are still watching facts are facts. Yeah. Monday night football up thirty eight percents in the same time last year Sunday night football up thirty four percent. So that's big the other thing was, you know, as as we expected the Connors the the Roseanne Barr show without Roseanne Barr debuted this week on Tuesday and ten and a half million viewers. It made it one of the season's most watched shows, for example, they say this is us, which is a big ratings winner gets about almost nine million. So the Connors got ten and a half million the voice about nine million to the big question will be after week one. What do they do? There's the curiosity factor, and they killed off Roseanne people wanted to know how they killer often that question was answered on Tuesday opioid overdose. But we'll see weeks two and three.

Any other, team or my opinion would be like a general sports fan would certainly want them to have a an. Affiliation with a major league team to get that pipeline of really good players and prospects beyond that. I think the average fan around here would They would be excited if they were affiliated with, the Yankees Mets Red Sox, but. Beyond that it doesn't matter if it's the Padres the. You'd be thrilled I like. Actually I do like it that cold but it even for my standards very cold this morning a great contrast to what you. Were just. Talking about read Hubs. Of you you. Could, go, outside there I'm sure it'll be a little bit warmer out there already seventy five last week we we had a clip from Jimmy. Fallon talking, about, how Aretha Franklin I have it, like ice cold right when when. She was on his, show came out in like it was warm he likes, freezing Warns rice became she'll come out a fur coat and it was already ninety five degrees in there and normally he keeps a studio. Where you can see your. Breath and it's kind of like us. Near he prefers, it where you have icicles you know and then I prefer it where it's a little. Bit warmer it always amazes. Me that in two thousand eighteen th this has been almost, every building I've worked in my wife's building at work HVAC they're conditioned it just doesn't always seems it's very tough to get it right even with technology it seems like I absolutely agree with every building I've. Ever worked in Yeah I mean there is some element Comfort zones vary greatly that's true but I also think that it's either. It's, either frozen or it's a sauna yeah I once worked with, a guy as a matter of fact who. Was, doing his. Show in his coat no he's no he was. Doing. His show, with his shirt off I was. Friend Dottie Pepper was honored yesterday she is Dottie. Pepper from Saratoga. Springs induction the New York state golf association's hall of. Fame we've met her she does not only offer a great announcer really broke a. Lot of barriers becoming the first woman to. Be a commentator on. The, masters she does an awful lot for the. Community we. Know, that firsthand yeah. And she's written a children's book and gas super nice. Yeah it's. Very annoying she's an overture She's the greatest that what. She does is very annoying to underachievers like myself. She won the. State girls championship in eighty one and eighty three she. Was the LPGA player of the year back in ninety two you forget how great. She was so congratulations to her going into. The the state steak. Off, association's hall of fame you know I was. A little. Bit, surprised to see. This this morning I'm not sure if it, was, executive, times union, but the Tri, city valley cats they don't have an agreement with with the Astros yet and it's kinda late Raillard season. Is wrapping up kind of late I thought it was interesting the, chief operating officer of the valley catch ripped Murphy by the way of pittsfield native athlete basketball with his brother Joe he says? They'll probably have an announcement next week which I feel like okay just, you know matter of fact but he says it. Could be descended new? Player, or a. Contract with the. Astros or the third possibility what surprising me maybe seeking a contract with a. Different MLB team which would be I just didn't see, that possibility, even coming up going to happen most people in this area care what affiliation. The team as as long as there's good quality minor league baseball. Here I would say unless it was with the Yankees Red Sox. Or Mets no they would they. Wouldn't care it's it's as long as it's affiliated with some sort of major league. Team I, don't think I don't think the Astros holder particularly you know Warm spot necessarily right people here. So yeah so well hopefully hopefully they'll just reopened the, Astros but You know you definitely want to. Major league affiliation, let's see they. Are second in the league in attendance over four thousand. A game just, pretty good great, job here they really do anything is with with. The valley cats it's it's yes it's baseball primarily but there are so many, other things happening there they really. Do, a, nice job, of drawing families in and keeping them, interested You do Luck you show up even if your kid. Likes baseball if you have a seven and ten year old stuff to get him to be occupied for two two and a. Half hours so it's. Great stadium so I don't think they'll have. Any trouble, I, mean I I assume they'll be up with, the Astros but. We'll see it's just a funny. To me that's still an open question a little something. For Rachel Die hard giants fan Odell Beckham junior See talented often receiver has, cashed. In, huge huge third he just contract in the NFL largest receiver and they actually do you think people don't. Like, money here here's here's the reaction in the giants locker room yesterday when word of the contract came out Hey Lisa us There's a. Couple of, things. They're, like, Yay, finally, we're we're Right and also like hey, there's a prospect down the. Road if, I. Keep, my, sights Hey I can negotiate like that to what did they say? Rising, tide lifts, all. Boats the more, you, make the maybe the morale make. Your right yeah that's good If he stays healthy it's worth it but that's the big question. He's guaranteed sixty five million dollars oh my God third highest in. The, NFL behind Matt Ryan. A quarterback for the, falcons and Kurt, cousins of quarterback for. The. Vikings, he will also. Average roughly.
