Soccer: Predictions for Tops Leagues

"All right. I have five predictions that I would put any money on going through them. Number one, arson van Gurley, managing Real Madrid. By the end of the. Season. I love it that amazing. That was a disaster. The Lou Libre thing was a death disaster from when it started their underlying numbers really bad, doesn't seem like he's gonna last. Their vendor has talked about Real Madrid in the past. You know, who else are they gonna hire at this point. So count on that number two. Get ready for the red bull treble as I'm calling it with New York, red bulls, winning the MLS Rb Leipzig who I'm considering part of red bull, even though the club does not like to be called red bull winning the Bundesliga. And Rb Salzburg, winning Europa league. I love that one too. I know I have. I don't have the best reputation for, you know, actually carrying out the bets. But if that happens, Mike Nye or going to one shot, a tall can rebel live on air. I cannot wait for that. I'll I'll say eulogies. Number three, less surprising. Frankie diong and I ex will make a run to the Champions League, semi finals. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, I XE champions. Are they even gonna get out of their their first in their group right now tied Byron. Wow. Okay. Semi-final they've got Totic guys. Legend. Number four. This one pains me Manchester City's gonna win the Premier League Champions League, double the seer. Bets. That's verse jinx shit. I learned from the best put the bay. From the top. City, wait till man, city wins the double not a trouble or could Rupel. I just don't think they're gonna care enough about fake up. Fair point. They are defending care about Cup champions though. Maybe they get the Jack Trevor treble with the character. Treble whomever had the FA Cup Europe or UEFA Cup and Carling Cup shrivel. That was dope. Number five, the soft treble number five. My most most bold.

"And and so far they've shown that that that's that's the takes. And so, you know, I'm I'm excited to coach these guys, and I'm proud to be part of and just you mentioned it. Working as a team. And if look the biggest compliment coach can get is when you're told that your team just looks like a team, they're working together. And we were just talking about this before you came on that the rebels do. In fact, look like that what have you done though, in these two months that you've had the team three months to get the spirit this commod ary with this group. Well, we emphasize from the beginning that we were going to do things as a team that, you know, without referencing years pass that we felt that any anytime team success one MLS it required. That teams would be a team into know how to play with each other not play for each other. So that was clearly the emphasis from day one and from talking to all the players that had been here in the past. That's something they felt that they were yearning for. So, you know, and that's who I am. You know? I mean, that's that's what I've always believed in. I was never a great player. But I was a guy who figure out how to how to win because help make my teammates better. And so that's what I've tried to do to coach. And and you know, what I mean again, they they aided up. They wanted it. They it was a hunger for that here. And so, you know, then then asked for grasp we can we every day have tried to add sophistication we've we've talked. A lot about the tactics. And how we move is group. And how he wanted to send how we wanna press what we wanted to be like when we all ideas on the field. So every day been been a lot of hard work and kinda squeeze as much out of every day as possible, it's a smart group, and they they're intelligent players talented. So it's been a lot of fun. It's been a lot of fun so far just because everybody's in it together. And the response to to everything that we we've done has been great just wanna take it back to this game against Columbus over the weekend and coaches get credit when they make the right substitution. And obviously when Mike rela walks on the field and scores seconds later. You did something right? So what did you tell Mike before you you got him in you send them in there? And then also just in general what kind of players he going to be for the red bulls this year come to keep an eye on the keeper they might be able to chip. Coach of the year. Mike, Mike there, there's clarity. You know, we tried to create player on the field. So that you know your role, and you know, winning play in certain spots on the field. What what that's supposed to look like Mike has been so good for us this preseason than in the early parts of the season. And it's flexibility has such ability as game he can play up top. You can play on either wing. He can play underneath a striker. And so he's he's got so many towns and he's got a soccer field whose game. So, you know, but you know, we try to have energy in the way we play and certainly drink is off the bench..

"And it had been I want to use the word unbalanced it had been unbalanced in New York for so long because everything had to go through Tehran Rio interior Anri was down the team was down. When teary wasn't creating opportunities. No one was creating opportunities. And it just feels so more balanced when you watch them. They it's like they have options. It's not hey, where's Terry on? I gotta get him to ball. It's move. The move the ball around until something opens up. Let Lloyd Sam uses speed. You know, get it to Sasha question, and let them combine through the middle with Felipe like it seems like such a different team. And I'll say this. I think they're going to be even better when Mike Grela is starting is playing and playing from the start. I think sales's has been a little bit of a I don't know. But he gives them that hidden down that flank gives them that. That it's been productive. It hasn't been productive in that way. And he should've had a goal actually on that one cross the came in. But he gives them that thrust down the wings opens up that space to allow question to slide to one way or another needs to I agree with Jason in this respect. I feel like the shackles are off like players are playing with a little more freedom. I mean, I see Brad the right Phillips. He's playing with more energy than I ever seen ever seen him play with the rebel. I think that it's that. But it's it's more that they're playing more as a team. Yes. That's what Jason was getting in the beginning to everything had to go through Jerry Anri. And so you see them working for each other a lot more as well. So rather Phillips is working really hard. But you see everyone working for each other. You see when when me AGA mammy who's stepped in pretty admirably say centreback, given his youth. He's coming. He's he's done fine. When he's made a mistake. There's been someone there to say, hey, don't worry about Louis row. Blesses giving us out of the basket. And by the way, Lewis row bliss to me right now, the best goalkeeper in MS interesting. Well, let's see how exactly just Marsh has done this joining us now on extratime radio. It's the boss of the New York red bulls Jesse Mars Jesse how you've been. Guys can be back here with you, you know, the summer a little bit. But we're talking in the last night. You wouldn't let me talk him in the summer. Well, let's get into MLS Jesse. I'm suing because you're the coach of this team. The start doesn't surprise you. But does it. I would describe it. Where head of schedule where I thought we'd be and the reason that we are is the credit goes to the players they've adapted, and they've accepted me and much off and our philosophies and our challenges and they've responded in a great way, they believe in what we're doing and every day that come to work and they worked so hard to try and become a better team and become better players. So it's been a real pleasure. So far to work with these guys, you know, and I told them from the beginning that that I could see that we had a good group of young men, and that that was going to be the strength of what we did that we were going to try to do things came and soccer wise have lots of in the tactics that and the way we play, but it was really gonna come down to the people in the room..

"I don't know if the current setup, and how Clinton wants to play necessarily fits ships qualities the funny thing is this idea that you're going to play this proactive, very attack minded, we're going to be every all eleven forward all them back thing style that Klinsmann profess to wanna play ship actually fits that. He wants the ball. He's a guy who's always wanting the ball. He wants to be pressing the game. So in some ways, he's the perfect guy in terms of mentality. But I just don't know if been knows would know where to put him in this mix a lot of because of what you're saying. Jason he's already got his team. And let me ask you what you rather have Harry ship early win. That's a very interesting question. Wonderfully win his time with the national team is going is not going to be maybe what people expect it. Because again, his style of play. I don't know that the national team right now wants a playmaker on their field. As part of the team. I don't know that the system lends itself to playmakers is what I'm saying. It's not certainly doesn't lend lend itself to free free. Specially the electron if you will allow to just sort of do his thing. Either of you answered that question shipper win. I mean win when he's when he's on what for a friendly or any game or Gold Cup. Bring in the Gold Cup. You haven't Mexico for this US, Mexico game friendly leeway. Okay, win when he's inspired. I think ship is more consistent. He he has that bit. Imagine of every I would bring ship in for the Gold Cup. Overly women over. Yeah. Just get a long term and a guy who I think could and especially against a lot of the teams from Kake calf in particular. We're having his abilities. I think I think he might be little tougher in that ways not going to rush by you know. So the way win what I mean? So let us know what you think should Harry ship be in your in Clinton's plans right now. Should he be in the national team? You can tweet us at extratime radio on Twitter. "You saw the good and you saw the bad. Right. You saw kellyn Acosta as playing awhile get red-carded twenty minutes into a game. You saw me Oscar play good game for the New York. Red bulls and help them to get a tough win on the road. Yeah. I do think that. Depth matters. I know Simon you don't. And when you have these young guys coming up and they're making impact in the game. I think it's a good thing. The thing I was going to point out was from that Dallas game though, Dallas went down a man and the game change for me. Seattle nil-nil Dallas still tops in the and before that game on on starting lineup. I said there's going to be goals in this game. You can trust me. There's going to be goals in this game. It's amazing. How different that game became when the player went out. But see Schmidt said after the game it made the game so difficult for them. They were up man for a ton of the game. But they could it out how to break down FC Dallas. And I thought Dallas just did a great job of having being Casio a top to keep Seattle from getting too crazy going forward they were afraid of being STO. And I thought he was a very act player came under his game changer with your have eleven men or he's a game changer. That's that's just. There was there was something for everyone over this weekend ca-car showing up in a big way helping Orlando city to a two goal was pretty something pretty special. He had a hand in two goals over the course of two or three minutes there. You had controversial calls. You mention the oil Salt Lake match Toronto they feel that they had a goal called back. Unjustly thing is feeling. They got the goal of venture anyway, and they still give it up. So I'm not sure I'm gonna worry too much about that. If I'm Greg Vanney because they ended up getting equalizer and they weren't able switched off red bulls winning in Columbus tough place to play. We'll get to that in segment two right now, we're going to concentrate on the Chicago fire. They they get they finally get there. First one of the season over the weekend against the Philadelphian, one nil at home and a big part of that game was Harry ship. He's their playmaker with Sean Maloney out. He took the team on his back and his assists led to the only goal of the game. And we're happy to have Harry ship right now on extratime radio. Harry, thanks for taking some time. Yeah. Thank you, get Harry. We gotta start with this one of the moments in the game that really struck me was the fans using the ship pun, and you know, all the puns that come come out of that word, and they're chanting their serenading you with this. How do you feel when you hear that? It's funny. My and less more than I do they're here, but not gate. Good feeling to have have fans behind you. I think you know, some sheer and confidently kinda, you know, both and make them more criticize the game to get them to say again, Harry when you when you were growing up where did you follow the fire where your fire fan attending games? Yeah. Actually, I remember going back like much a lot of games they play back field. And I was I was really young, you know, Frank Frank lope office, my club coach growing up. So I kind of had that connection to the fire. So, you know, get tickets and a lot of guys able remember, you know, you know, game more into from random players. I remember having Dima Kovalenko jersey. And then we'll say switch. Was there blood on that Kovalenko jersey? There is a lot as it was there that was player. He was. Yeah. I remember. Yeah. And then I went to games, you know, rating Broncos there when I was in high school. I went to the grew up fan. I'm a franchise now..

"You look to rejoin the club? It's too early. It's too early. I can't answer that question that this point. It's just but you're picky shoes. We don't know what he's gonna do. Also, also what you do. We also don't know the behind the situation. I would say it depends on the role. I I'm trying to think of a role that that that would really appeal to Mike what if again started US L team, and they say we want you to be the coach of US L team. Would you take? Look like demotion wouldn't would you take that? Boy, even if it's the club. It's the club. You love. I know I know I honestly can't put myself. I can't put myself in shoes. I I just don't know where his mind's out. I don't know what he's been. I think he would take an assistant coaching job out there. But right now, Mike Pecci is a head coach. And I'm Elesse he's shown that he's capable of doing that a high level. So I think if I in this is once again, we're putting ourselves in his shoes. I would look for that job. I think he's capable of taking an MLS seem making them better than maybe what the pieces are and being successful in the postseason. We'll see we'll see what happens with the red bulls big things to Curtis for join us here for this special edition, extratime radio on Fridays. "You're listening extra timely. Usually on. These interviews. We like to talk about the current stuff going on with guys. We had a play by the name of David Beckham on all them. Is there a name for this day? There's something like if I was to go to the barber and say, I want ex that he would know exactly what I was asking for your comment about each other words desperation really muster the energy of desperate attacks that I think would have seen out of team at home desperately leading goal, and I desperate three or four times because you have to be desperate. He's hinging almost copes hub copes. It was Cup hopes are use deep down your soccer person. You're a little bit embarrassed by it. Is gonna disagree because I remember a time about a month ago when he told me that he'd rather have a Lamar Nagel on his team. Donovan I think that's a bunch of garbage. Oh from New York, New York. You're listening to extratime radio MLS soccer dot com. Siriusxm FC. Channel ninety four. I am Andrew we be with me. Simon Borg David Goss. It is a Friday. This is a surprise episode for a lot of you out there. It's an extra special episode. That's because we wanted to get red bull sporting director Curtis on Thursdays show. Well, it didn't happen. There were some scheduling issues on our end. We ended up having Taylor twelve and we had a great show. We gave all sorts of thoughts on the whole bra New York with New York City of see and the red bulls, and we covered everything else as well. But now on this Friday, we are very very happy to get a leak Erta. She is down in Fort Lauderdale, the former Duke striker Hermann trophy winner. He played at him Lassie for the mutiny for DC United for the burn. He was a senior director player relations in competition at MLS Intel December twenty third and that's when the red bulls hired him as sporting director. Of course, the big thing in the news right now as pertains to Ali Curtis in the red. Bulls is the dismissal of Mike Pecci Jesse Marsh in his head coach of the team. Let's go to Ali right now, very happy to have him. I'll e how's it going call while going real? Well, thank you for joining us here on this Friday, a little bit of special edition eats yard for some of the fans out there. We'll start with this has this been the craziest week of your professional life. It's been crazy molest, but the red bulls man, you guys have been in the headlines you've been making moves. Yeah. You know, it's been a it's been a challenging week. It's been a challenging last two weeks. But it's about moving forward. You know, we're very excited about twenty fifteen and beyond. And so, you know, we're excited to get the guys in come preseason and getting to know all of us development staff. So it's about moving forward. Now, there's going to be submitted gradient Alaska about that in a little bit. But let's go back to the beginning here. Because obviously you started out or were before you got into this position. The senior director of player relations in competition at MLS and you move over to the red bulls. And now you're going from the league office to the front office. How long has this been in the works has been something you've been thinking about for a long time? It's been something that you would discuss with the red bulls for a while. Because we knew that Andy Roxburgh's contract was coming to an end at some point. Well, what I would say I try to answer that question to fold. So in terms of moving through a club. You know, that's been in the works for a while. You know, it's always been a dream of nine and a goal of mine to to move to a club. And I knew when I made a decision to leave the banking world and enjoying the league office. I wanted to move to a club. And I thought that that was the ideal pathway to really hone and learn all things, and I need to learn set when I got to a club really wasn't about just being successful. But you know, I wanna be the best you know, wanted to clubs. I'm with you the best. And so that process really started seven and a half years ago. So. All the the process, I assume has been in the works based on what I saw one of your videos where you talk about a three hundred page business plan. I gotta believe that that has been in the works for quite some time. Yeah. You know, I think that these jobs, you know, these are hard and you get in them. And you know, there's a million things going going on. So to the extent you have a plan in place when you start you're able to hit the ground running and you're prepared. And ultimately, I think when you when you've prepared and you've written things down, and you have a plan in place that you say show up for success. And you give yourself the best and most efficient opportunity to win on all different angle. As McCain's the my process with the rebels. You know, I mentioned this before it didn't, you know, if the process wasn't a year, but it also wasn't a week. And when it comes to that to that business plan, give us the bridge version. I know it has your vision and your plan for the club. What's how would you summarize it as best you can summarize three hundred pages? Yeah. What I would say it's really about creating an identity and philosophy for the club that resonates from the use level all the way out for the first teen and that has to do with not just player, but also stat. And so, you know, one of our goals is really want to build a club individuals in organizations aspire to be part of and having being a world leader in providing the best and buying. They're not suppliers but also stat so creating structure that sophisticated that smart this that we can be a club that people really aspire to be part of join Twitter here recently. And I I know I followed you sure that's been a circus here for the last couple of weeks four you, but you know, three hundred pages. I I know it's hard to boil it down into say a hundred forty characters, but we we hear this. Yeah. People wanna spire to be a part of this. We want to have the best processes in place. But if I'm a New York red bulls fan, and and I'm looking at your plan. I come out saying this. Is what my club is going to be. Is there an identity that say like fans or the common person can really latch onto and say we're going to be a team that maybe plays this way, and with this philosophy and with this kind of player is there anything along those lines. What I would say, you know, from vision standpoint, you know, we have a vision that we want to build a connection between the club and the community that transcend sport. And there's very few sporting properties out there. Whether that's international dynastic, in my opinion, that do that various fishing like, but we wanna be amongst one of those clubs from a style of play. We wanna be high tempo high energy in brace that way of playing in. So Jesse will be able to provide that for our players and really that will resonate not just at the first team level, but also at the youth level as well. So we're looking forward to that. We believe are fans will embrace that style of play and will look before two twenty fifteen now, we talk about twenty fifteen and when I when I hear three hundred pages I hear, you know, we're going to all these different plans plans take time and time maybe in the world of professional sports is not always something that that people have in the. The management positions in the head coaching positions. There have been some reports out there that have said that your sporting director is for one year have to ask you is that the case or can you clarify that for us? You have more than one year to to kind of put these things in place and really get rolling. What I would say to that is in initially. I said, you know, I didn't want the times of my contract. You know, I didn't wanna disclose I'll disclose this little bit about my contract. And I'll never do it again. But it's for greater than one year. Good now. One of the first things that you did as as the new sporting director. Is you tackled the coaching situation? I I'm curious when you're when you're getting the job, you know, you're getting the job. You're you're appointed this twenty-third, what are you thinking at that point about the coaching 's situation, and what conversations did you have with Mike pecking those first days? So you know, it happens. You know, again, I would say it's all about preparations. Well, so in terms of how you know how you how I've you the pertains to not just the head coaching position. But also, our player development that on you know, I've been studying, you know, not just in New York vegetables, but really studying a variety of different clubs in through my my role at the league office. So you know, and got my plan had the job met with Mike as well as other teeth staff members. And you know, we've got a, you know, the decision, you know, it was it was difficult. But again, it wasn't about trying to get rid of my it really was about bringing in Jesse Marsch in in our commitment to excellence for this club in Jesse. You know, he really embraces an embodies where I see the club moving forward in terms of how we do. You are I. How view our team operation between two quality control and cross the bar cross department communication. How how I see the player development pyramid. As pertains to the platform from eighteen to twenty three our tadamichi are pre academy. And then how I knew the role of coaching education. How are you the the role of performance in that science and medical errors pertains to health? Science sports nines as in your health scouting and recruiting the roles analytics and technology, and then also player wellness how we bring players at board. How players are are off boarded as well. So those key areas, I believe Jesse will help lead this success. And did you approach Mike with that same with that same group of responsibilities? And maybe felt maybe he wasn't the guy for the job. Just so fans can understand was Mike in this process at all or you had you had Jesse in your mind from from. From day one. Now, you know, it was again, it was a really really tough decision. Mike good, man. And you know, I had a lens of through my interaction. Mike is a player my interaction with Mike at the leaned office. And also, I have some time sit down with them. You know, when I took the job, and we had you know, we had some some good conversations and you not only in person. But also the phone in terms of you know, where we saw the team and the roster before, but ultimately again, it wasn't so much about Mike was about Jesse. And I really believe Jesse. He embodies this vision and will embrace this new approach, and what we what we wanna do moving forward and the success in key areas that we need to see succeed in moving forward. Best enough, one decision oversee just sees the guy inside very familiar with with Jesse. From our time here at Melissa. And of course, we saw the passion and the knowledge and everything that he brings to the table. There have been some reports out there that he was not the only candidate was that you have a larger group. Did you think ESPN ESPN NFC is reporting Caleb porter? And maybe Gregg Berhalter Bruce Arena, where at least mood or contacted. Did you have a big group of people that you considered in this process? So what I would say is wouldn't I'm not going wouldn't name names. But you know, anytime you make a decision which is to hire new coach, you know, you've got to think very critically incomprehensively about that role. And I did that and I arrived at Jesse and I'm happy about the decision again. It was tough. But Jesse is going to be a great coach this call. See March taking over Mike Pecci. Of course, as you said a guy who is very important of this club. Would who was a tough decision for you to let go I believe the quote from you here. I think it was the conference call you that it was we believe Mike will be a big part of the club moving forward. I'm sure red bull fan saw that and a lot of questions popped into their minds. Can you clarify what what kind of roller you thinking are there active discussions around something like that? Or is that something that right now, it's it's maybe too fresh. I think it is a bit crushed right now. But I'd like for right for for my to be involved in the club. You know, he had given tremendous service to the club. You know, he spent seven years you as a player and the years spent as as a as a coach, and so the fans love him, and he has a role within within this club long term. But I'm sure, you know, for Mike he he needs some time to think through and and let things settle as to what's best for him and his family. So looking forward to those conversations, but you know, in terms of the details, and then they'll probably be later and tell me about now, your your experience with the fan reaction to all of this. As you mentioned he's beloved by the fans that the red bulls, Mike Pecci is. So you let them go. And how do you? How'd you manage through that you? I'm sure you. Saw it coming the fan reaction, right?

"You're encouraged to even extra time MLS soccer dot com for tweet at extratime radio with any comments questions oriented. Means. Hey, this is Andrea from the Seattle. You're listening to extratime radio. Back now, extratime radio sign of personal mantra. That's. On the loop for Victoria, every single teacher a lesson back. Now, the guys David Goss. I'm of course, Andrew we'd be into your mail. But I some news items football in the last the Latino on you competition is up and running. You can vote for that one on Thursday, the round of sixteen starts we will have our our amigo in football do opinions on football unless onto discuss that award on Thursday with you just want to remind you to go vote. Now, I think it's Eric cantor is going to be right there, you go Valeri is gonna be right there your boy job plot should be. He should be right. There should be interesting. Also, you can vote for goal of the year and save of the year. And I'm less soccer dot com. Some good stuff there. You wanna get your vote in that way at the end of the year. You don't complain when the timbers or the Sounders win it because that's pretty much what has happened every single year. So make your voice heard in that one and onto your mail Lindsey Troy lives in San Diego, deployed to Asia right now. Thanks for listening to Lindsey. Instead of saturating markets. They should be looking to expand throughout the country. He thinks MLS should have moved that new LA franchise, Elliot. See we've yet to see what the final Monica for that will be he thinks they should have moved into San Diego because his fellow San Diegan 's would embrace soccer, but he knows it's not going to happen. So he says the wisest course of action his opinion is to do with the Cascadia teams of and impre embrace your roots. So he's saying LA as Tex that's one that he thinks LA would would embrace. What do we think about that? I mean, I'm sure there's some issues there with with copy ride in naming rights, and all that stuff somebody out there probably owns that thing whenever you got enough owners there, you can probably you could probably he's that. You have you have enough owners that are creative. I doubt they would go with a an order every trick of retread doubted. Well, peak-time, especially when you're investing that kind of money, and you. I think that's the point to look at that you want to create something new. You don't wanna go borrow from the past necessarily? I did pick up on us. Not an Austin LA as shirt today. So feel pretty good about that bumpy pitch. Thank you for that one. Let's see David Houston tally hall tour. Landau goes he's hurt. Please. Explain how that makes sense. I get it from the Dynamo's side. But it seems strange to me that Orlando would trade for an injured player. If you haven't seen out there this one I don't think is yet to be confirmed confirmed within the teams like press conference style. But tally hall's have been talking about it. It's it's it's a done deal. He's going to Orlando for twenty fifteen. Of course, he has that ACL injury. I believe that is what is he's not going to be ready for opening day by any means, but you'd expect he'll probably find a way into the number one spot sometime in the year, depending on what other moves they make. But when you think how often have you heard of a goalkeeper not being the same after an ACL tear. Yeah. That's true. I don't know that I've heard of automates tears from. Okay. Well, so we don't have a huge Sempe. Sample size. What is it? It's location money that with more Orlando over and then tally hall and international player spa back door Lindo something like that. I don't know about the international international players spied on the tallyho look personality. I think he's going to be a good spokesman for the club. He was one of the better. Talkers all of the Houston dynamo run these quote, unquote, young goalkeeper, he's twenty nine for goalkeeper. He might have a lot of years left to give you an he knows the league, Kevin North Carolina Cary North Carolina to be specific long Email here from Kevin. But essentially what he wants to know was where were the fans this weekend. Some some crowds the stadiums at work completely full Shirley, threaten the less. The Columbus one on Saturday. Very very cold terrible weather out there. I think the overriding factor on that one guys' how state played in town at eight PM like it or not how state in Columbus college football in most places in America on a Saturday rules, but it is I'm sure there's some disappointment there in Columbus about that. One New York attended a great crowd, Simon, of course, disagrees based on the placement of the microphones. I thought they were great. Sorry, my bad just completely objective. Your with you giving fans as much they traveled. Well, which is great. But the rebels fans ruled that game. Yeah. So let's not not say misrepresent, whatever I would also say that he is. In. For family reasons. Who knows who's watching it home? Probably should not have might up that DC's a little bit crass. They are sell crowd was good. Very good crowd for them. Dallas had a good crowd as well. I'm sure these second legs. We'll see some great cowards in the likes of LA Seattle. What New England thirty thousand a couple of weeks ago and RFK you figure is going to be jumping as well. So stay stay tuned. There are not many cities where you can do to the crew. What what state does like how many MLS cities have that factor where the team literally a college owns the city owns the city, and you have like eight eight days a year when it's just correct? Pretty much. And so how what's city has that happened to them? It does want to kill Columbus layoff, Columbus, pretty tough. Let's see. That's all we have here for this show. Anything to add before we get out of here. Goes you finished your apple? So it's been a productive afternoon for you. Healthy. Once you go trick or treating with your head. Did you missed it? I was here too. Long broke my heart broke, my heart. I got home and just too bad. That's good. Could we have actually have let her trick or treat or was that just a charade? No. I would have we had kids come to our place knock on the door and me trying to scare the kids. She was too happy with. Did. You have candy least. Yeah. Okay. She was responsible. But in the background there. I was going. Yeah. I've heard that sound. A couple of games there were left. I could understand that. I would first time I walked in the door here opened up and saw you and I turned around and left employment. Be damned. That's it on Mondays extra here. We'll see around on Thursday hit us up of Email. We need some more emails from you. I want to hear what you think about the play offs extra time at MLS soccer dot com. Thanks to do. And you guys, I'm Borgen, David Goss. I'm Andrew we. We'll see you around next time.

"Kid. Don't get who have called wind. Go and coal the hopefully you get in that position. Peggy let's let's talk a little bit about about teary. I mean, everything we everything we talk about on this show when it comes to him all the emails all the tweets, we get our is this series last season. Are we watching the end of this guy's magnificent career? Does it get to a point where on this team and around this club? You're like man, I don't wanna hear this question anymore. They got to the point where you're just like we all have to kind of back off and just let things happen or do you guys know deep down what's going to happen with teary? I really don't know. That is cool and eat, you know, I can I can I'm just I'm just enjoying within like like a like a and and just on. Now. He's a fiery guy we've seen that on the field. So I was at the game last night. And you guys had we kind of had a little bit of an argument on the bench. It seemed like I was I missing something. What was going on who? Yeah. Yeah. We you guys were discussing a part of the game. Or, you know, having a little bit of a fiery discussion. I I choose win though, each other's tweets when we had nine something, folks. So we always all doing. That's that's just noble and who always wins. But I would say I would say most of the times that dying. He we we both got got called all call him Kobo heart heads on the bench show with some heated discussions before we gotta get you out of your Peggy. Just kind of curious I think some people out there. Maybe maybe didn't know kind of your background before coming in here. Some people that were just American soccer fans, but kind of take us back to before the twenty thirteen season. You know, you're living the life in Brooklyn. Having a great time scoring goals in the playoffs. Dish out assists arguments here. Unreal on the bench. How did you get them less? Why did you decide that this is where you wanted to be? The thing was I was I was I wasn't bevy. And and that the last last year, I I wasn't I wasn't that much. And and to be into a one on all that I had to one in France. Like, I said I wanted to I won't I won't do the shopping ship fulltime. I won't do the French national go to time. I won't I won't there. The coupley one or two member our won the Super Cup. And and I was I was on the point in my career that I wanted something you, and and I was like, okay, maybe I can change I can change the show club and going into into another club with another toll jape and everything stayed in central maybe need in all Spain the whole one of that. I was like, okay. I'm I I'm cutting tune. Well, I'm on. I had I had great glory Oviously up national team up big gains in champions me. So now I wanted to discover something, and I was I was attracted since then this by by the by the US circus, so and and the country was drinking not even just for me. But told my kids only to give them another coacher and give them another language, and and then the vision where it can be open minded with the mining. And they'll just stay around all all the time to same people stuck in the same same way on thinking. So so figured that. It would be good coal to come in the US and try to the that inflatable and both for my kids to to. To go up in another country. So we're society's Peggy. I'm very jealous of you that you have the opportunity to forget, how many French cups you've won that you've won so many trophies. But you came from France, you said you came to a new project here in MLS compare a little bit between the two leagues and the and the style of soccer, the quality the way the clubs are running. And maybe what what have you liked so far about MLS? Would you like better or were just do? I like what if you like what have you enjoyed about this league? It's more open. It's open. That's what I liked it. Again. It's open creating a line friends. It's more tactical. It's close very how to. Space, especially when you want you all doing. So you have done this chanson when in in France, but over here, can you can have you kind of space to most basically and Joe it's more enjoyable when you like drink for on whether to play again, we go all right last one before we get out of here. Peggy I know that you're a CEO you got some business interests Manyara your with a lot of different interests. So I'm gonna put you in Commissioner Dungarvan boots for for one day. And I'm gonna ask you as a player is a guy who's gone all over the world with this game. What what would you do to make you MLS even better for the players for the fans for for everybody involved? What do you think this league can do next to keep moving forward? That's a difficult question question because there's just one thing you can do to improve from the play and. And the game. So I mean, they'll like though, like plenty of he's thinking about it all the time. I can I can answer this in just one thing would. So easy will a big a big playoff match on Saturday. I'm sure that one won't be too easy. DC United has anything to say about it. They'll host the New York red bulls and Pegu that games at two thirty pm eastern on NBC proper Peggy, good luck. Man. Thanks for coming on. Thanks for sharing your time with us. Thank you. Tell you. Tell your son is having a blast in the background. Good day. You have a pet you do of the New York rebels and sky and sun. Yeah. You know, what the like family matters for the rebels that really respect that you got rooms Akagi kid waking people up from naps. I mean, any guess on what on what Peggy's kid is doing? He sounds like he's having last certainly much more fun than we're probably watching the red bull's game from this weekend. There you go calculating tackling incessant won't like to hear that. But you heard the TV info there two thirty pm on Saturday. Tune in for that won the second leg of this Atlantic Cup playoff match. When we come back Simon Borg, we'll be back, and we will get right into the mail bag. You're

"You. Yeah. I just I'm just starting to get away for training to be part of the south pretty soon. He'll be at the red bull's game screaming your name. So you guys played the best team in the east this in this game, and you really not manhandled, but you control the game against DC United. What did you what was the game plan? What we were talking about people to -ccomplish there again was. How into these really they know how to Dan obvious being in the? Game to play them. And and we'll just trying to know that that go which can be them. So so we start to to play hall together different wealth and try to to make what we what we did all of the soon, which means calling. So you're gonna good place now to win in the first leg, I have to ask you, you know, you spent so much time in Europe and a star in the French league for a long time the playoffs to decide a champion. That's gotta be a little bit strange at least in the league structure. Do you like the playoffs? Do you like the fact that you play the regular season? And then it comes down to this kind of winner. Take all at the very end. Win and you're being from because you know, you know, that Europe is not the same thing you played in the season and the one the one rooms Reagan the seven champion over here coming different to go to the playoffs. And and and like. Cups by so so I like it. Thank you getting their own. I liked it that you just different. And when you know these from the beginning year, you know, if so last year you guys wildly successful in the regular season struggled in the playoffs. Right now. Very successful. Lifts two wins in two games. What's changed from last year to this year? Steam say. Because we we have we have one more gift to the that that makes it, and if we say would end the same the same way that that we ended last year so for now, it's bits bad. We have to finish that and wall what a change nothing. Nothing. Nothing has changed that much extended a thing that now we know that that in the playoff you have to be focused all the time. And that's that's what we tried to do. So Peggy for you want supporter shield last year. Now like you said it's a chance to move on and Cup playoffs for you. Which one would be more special to win supporters shield or analyst. Yeah. I mean, I wanna win all. He says when she got up, and I want all and obviously that that the most important for for everyone. So obviously, it's it's it's been big thing to win, and I really would like to win them because I had that habit can fence to win all the other the vision that I that I'm being true. They see time being there the national French job, then then leave and this ships though. So it'd be a dream of the thing to do the same see last year you guys elite enough I two. And you come home, and there were some some issues against Houston and Houston manages the squeak one out this club. Kind of have a has a history of being a little bit snake bit being a little bit unlucky in the playoffs. It happened last year, Mike, peck, he's a guy who goes away back with this New York franchise. Did you guys talk at all about that history about kind of the expectations from your fan base before this run started on? No, no, I don't really pay attention on those thing, I'm not supposed to she. So so to me you always have to write a new page every day every year every month. So you just have to work to bath. And Joe and Joe chill trains on mystery. Putting your footprint on history right now. I know, you know, it's really everybody's still waiting to see what's going to happen in these playoffs. But to assist in the in game get sporting KC goal in this one certainly doing your thing on the attacking side of the ball. How do you feel about your role on this team right now because when you got? I think a lot of people said, yeah. This guy's a striker maybe play up top with with teary. Do you like playing in that attacking midfield spot? And do you like kind of this sum game? Start some game super sub. Yeah. Everybody likes to to start again. And I like an object of the game. But type the end of the day, you just about just anything. And and and if I had to come in and have my team. I will do all my health and about the shipping is one not when I came for wasn't that feet, and I need all in my own my own my strength is the best of me. And and after with all the injured that I got it was it was halted Kim back so months to my to my. To my my level. And so now our rights, and I like I like I like to play in how the feet and make deal the place that and that can school I has been a full world to unfold once on my career, then I I was I wasn't shit that when I was young, and I've changed I've changed my spots around around seventeen eighteen years old to become a slow forward. Sold of dry, but I always played in position when I was younger. So is not another new thing to me and to to come comeback for permission. It's basically one of the guys who's made your job easier as an attacking mitt has been Bradley Wright Phillips. He obviously led the league in goals this year he's had an incredible season. What have you seen? That's changed from him that it's allowed him to have such a good year. You know, scoring goes all all about confident every every everything striking in school. And after you. Don't know how to call like like Carey, she she should think. Exemple January no houses coal and the whole it is so so the different full phone for that type of play on. That's every forward knows how to after school roles and someone then just made that dick, and and and with with drug Nate was it was we think of confident because because this is really nice guy. I really love him time. You were it was maybe maybe lacking of some continent, and we will to give him the company and now that it got it. Then. Stubble. He talks about how confident he isn't unreas- experienced scoring goals. Let's say you're in a situation you need one goal for your team you're playing attacking mid you get to put one teammate through in on goal. One on one to score to win MLS Cup. Are you picking Bradley Wright Phillips, teary Anri? Would even been found under this call girl. On kid.

"You're in courage to Email expert time MLS soccer dot com, or tweet at extratime radio with any comments questions orientations. Hey, guys. This is Lee win the New England Revolution. And you're listening to extratime radio. Backout? Four David Goss. I have Andrew we've we are onto the Eastern Conference pet. You do the New York red bulls coming right up for you that I'll just be David is Simon. Errands to run some apples to pick here later this afternoon. So he'll be out out in the office. Well, let's start with the game from Sunday night guys New York big win for them. Afternoon. What I say Sunday night. Well. Well. It was cold out there. I was at the game. Dave was not. So I'm not, but he has some very very sure opinions of the crowd noise that he'll in just a little bit of to win for New York. Red bulls at home against their archrival. You have to say DC United this Atlantic Cup match. No snow in this one was a bit frigid. But they gotta done a beautiful backheel of cysts on the first goal to who else Bradley Wright Phillips and the second scored by the man, we'll talk to and just a bit. That's Peggy Lou Dula. But guys what happened to DC? They didn't they didn't show up. Absolutely. Did not why they weren't. They weren't close to any red bull player that was on the ball throughout the game. When the rebels wanted to they could get open. They could take their first touch. They could get on the ball. They could pick their head up. They didn't. They didn't even like being a spindle the guy who works all game. It just didn't feel like they had any energy. And you'd think that the rebels would be that team coming off the short rest that would be that way. The player that's stands out to me is the guy who didn't have any energy sneak daily own. I would've subbed them off after twenty minutes. I mean there were plays. He wasn't even running on anymore. Then you have Johnson. Look Eddie Johnson in for Luis Silva. I think that they've lost some of their float at Johnson. It feels like he was unsure what to do with the ball. And they were just waiting for understand though, that make something happen. Yeah. That's essentially what they're came down to. And ultimately, this is I think where they lost the game Davey are. No and Perry kitchen in the mill were just getting overrun bottom line for defense. You couldn't pick up the blitz. New York, New York. We're sending runners everywhere else ends right back left back coming in midfielders McCarty. Now Alexander we're making runs like nuts. I thought was good because Greg and so who was picking him up. I mean, the kitchen are no were lost. And they were not a factor going forward with the three mid. Fielders liangelo McCartin Alexander rebels ran over thickly something loss for DC as well. No, Sean Franklin to shake, and that is a downgrade Chris Corbo fence, Chris Corbett, Sean Franklin's been pretty much best eleven candidate if not the best right back in here. So that's a huge loss when you teary Anri bearing down on you on that left hand side. I advocated for before this match, you gotta start pay you do especially at home. They did it. He opened up this defense. He is right now in these playoffs for them the difference maker by far we'll we'll get to him in just a second. But we talking about guys who can turn and face up and allow their teammates to get into space for those runs. If I'm a red bulls player and I do on the field. I have so much more confidence that my effort will get rewarded if I take off. And I know I'm going into open space. I figure there's a good chance. The ball is going to get there. And in this match, they did that he was he was the guy. But he's also the finisher. I mean, it's all around what a great touch on his goal. But it's not just you mentioned it it's not just into the sending the pass. It's the desire to make the run and the rebels had a ton of desire in that game. I mean part of the question marks rung, the is you don't know who's when the whether they're gonna show up or not you don't know whether it's going to have that desire and and push a game. They did all came. And usually they're good for. Okay. They do it in twenty minutes per and. They're back to being the red bulls. But it didn't happen credit to them. This is a motivated rebels team. Now who knows what's motivating them? And how they're getting it done. But the bottom line is this is the team. I mean, I think I underestimated go I had them out of the playoffs. When. Knows he picked Columbus Crew to win MLS Cup. So some Cup come up for you on that. What's the reverse of the Pat on the back? I'm essentially demoting myself. Yeah. Saying I got it wrong. I'm remember what what happened? That's accountability off to introduce you to that someday. Let's see here. We were talking about the crowd. I was right next to the DC supporters. I walk in this morning. I say Simon man DC, boys. They brought it at the stadium. And you said no way look you were right there. So you talk about someone who doesn't have a good feel for what the stadium was like you were were right underneath the DC crowd. So what else are you going to hear all you're going to hear isn't the whole stadium? I heard the whole state did anywhere in this stadium. You're you are you are witnessing history. And like everything that goes on through the microphones placed by ESPN's producers unbiased in their position on vying. And they're there where they need to be as you right there say this DC fans, I'm going to just assume that those middle fingers pointed everywhere, we're not pointed at me, I'm just they also got a little bit rowdy at halftime. They did there normal like drum ru. Teen in the concourses. There were some some definite acrimony between the the rebels fan and I loved it. It was awesome. The the environment was great. You heard the whole crowd. Every it spend got on the ball saying keep him off his left foot. Maybe there's an aspect of that to New York. They know him pretty well. Maybe they were shouting that they were get outta here. I swear I would not want. He didn't hear why wouldn't you? The guy who shouting from his seat keep them off as left foot

"The Laura listen extratime radio. Read around the ultimate hyphen on fire last night. Be you guys like train peer word association before he can get you out of here. And he. Twitter. Win will see Simon four thing over Snapchat them. You know, what's nap chat is since we faces are not your thing. Do and Snapchat wanted all my contacts. And I refused. Give it my Simon. You are in can't prove. From New York. New york. Listening to extra time radio MLS sucker dot com and siriusxm channel ninety four. I am Andrew. We be next to me Simon Borg fresh off an apple here. You were making so much noise. We had to postpone the taping of this podcast. I know how to pick an apple healthy pick the right? Apple kind of sound season. Right now, it is all you can smell the apples in the David Gus whose well, of course, and it's playoff season two. Although I did not make it to an apple orchard this year. Actually, never been to an apple orchard rate is I have raised their great. You get I eat like fifteen apples when I do that that seems just gluttonous pointless. Yeah. Little pointless pointless. Big show for today. Of course Cup playoffs in full swing. The first legs of the conference semi-finals wind down this week. And we'll cover all that. We're gonna start with the Western Conference just because I like to go left. To right. So it makes it easier that way we'll start with that in this first segment, and then we'll go to the east and segment to pay. You do today as a guest very happy to have him. He, of course, is the guy who came off the bench get sporting KC who started against DC United and got the job done for the red bulls will see what what's on his mind. But I I wanna let you all know out there that I have a special something for you. Hopefully, next Monday, I'm going to try to Mike up Simon Horgan during MLS playoff games and not for words or any sort of like insight. It's mostly just for is inaudible utterances that he makes games you can tell when it's a good game. When when Simond sitting at the back of the room, and he just can you give me something? Oh. Long as I will only approve that as long as you cannot identify which plays or which teams. I am laughing at oh. Like that. I kind of liked the idea of guessing what he might be doing. We'll get them for you as well. We're going to jump into the west quick. But just to start off the show. There was a question we got on Twitter law. It's a question. That's coming a lot this weekend. Because it's the first year molasses using his first tiebreaker as a way goals, and as with everything else with the most people wanted to bait it people want to say this is wrong. This is I we should do it. I don't like it for this reason this that and the other some people are all aboard on the away goes rule. But before we jump into these these series because they do hinge on it. I'm curious what your guys is impressions are how did it affect the? We can do you like away goals. You like what they've done so far in general. Do you like them? So yeah, I gotta believe it played a part in some teams coming out too. I mean, the revs if you look at the revs in general, though, I mean, you look at the other away teams, they didn't do anything. So that didn't do a whole can you really based on that? Can you really say much? No. But I think the let's let the two links play out shares its. Not to say that the way goes rule won't factor. Into teams approaches in the second leg, I think Seattle had the most classic away goal. The way they went about it was like we'll get away goal. We'll keep it close. And then we'll go home and win. I'm surprised that this away. Go thing is getting as much play decided to play series. I can see personally I would prefer that. The tiebreaker is just whoever had the better record the regular season. If it's a tie and you did better than the regular season. You get to move on. What they do. That's what you're putting a premium on. What you do those thirty four games. I would agree with that. I love to see that next year or to see just one game elimination and give it to the team with the better record say there's your advantage. If you can't win at home. You don't deserve to move on. Let us know what you think extratime radio on Twitter, extratime soccer dot com via Email. It's jump into those Western Conference results. You mentioned Seattle's away goal. They got a one one draw Sunday night in the final game of the weekend. Of course, the first goal and Michel penalty assist. Silly silly challenge for Marco Papa and the box and then Ozzie Alonzo gets one back Papa redeeming himself with with some very nice setpiece service. But I maybe you guys would disagree. But I can't imagine. This was the ugliest game of the weekend by far. There's no doubt that as far as a level of play at entertainment factor. This one didn't live up to the other three games, which is not to say it was a bad game. Just a little more cagey. Why do we think that was I think Dallas plays a big part in that? And this is the exact game. I predicted what would happen because Dallas makes you play that way. Just the way they're scrappy with every play, and they're they battle every ball. And it's it's there's no flow to the game. And I think that's that's part of it. I'm curious to see if this approach by CNN everyone saying oh Seattle. They showed their playoff metal. They rolled up their sleeves. They play gritty. I wonder if they were able to do any more than that. Like, I mean, I think that's their team. They rely on Obafemi Martins and Clint Dempsey to come up with big plays in the open field. And when they I'm not sure that Seattle could've done more is what I'm saying. I don't think they played with an attitude of let's sit back. I'd love to believe the number one team and MLS doesn't go into Dallas and say it, but that's the idea what the away goals and whatnot. Is you you're playing team with a lot of pace? So if you open up the field that you're playing into. Their hands. And I think the idea was that let's not give goals. Let's sit back, and we'll get one at some point through the quality players that we have. We're not gonna commit heavy numbers forward. And then following that train of thought you're saying, then we'll go home open it up and concede away goals possibly. Yeah. Maybe, but I think the idea is when they come home, they're better team at home. It's on their service in front of their crowd. And they think they can dictate the game. It's a rock and a hard place. The truth of the matter is that Seattle were one stupid tackle in the box away from the second best result of the weekend. The first obviously being New England's big win that will hit in the second segment here. But Simon bigger question for you has your back feeling a little bit sore everything good because you spent the whole weekend. Pat yourself on. I heard ripta and other Cheryl I heard from this guy was that's exactly how I predict all weekend long. That's all I'm Dallas had. This was their big moment. Because Martin's MRs chances doesn't usually miss those. And you know, they couldn't capitalize. But then again, Seattle playing very defensive. Here's one here's one theme from this game that will change going to Seattle marrow D as you'd expect will be in the starting lineup for FC Dallas. He was not in the lineup on this one suspended for this match that change the match for sure we saw against Vancouver. He was really the spark really the guy that could open things up. He didn't do it for ninety minutes by any means he was subbed out in that game. But he has his moments and those are the moments that maybe on the road you get away goal. Let's talk about a suspension. He he came onto the field in middle of that kind of eighty second minute brawl of the game up bra more like brouhaha, it'll you know, some pushing and shoving in that Vancouver. Dallas knock out round game. He came on the field, and it got suspended. It was stupid. There's no doubt about that. He should know better. They run the rule over this stuff in preseason. They tell the guys these are the rules. How does he change the match though, when they go to Seattle? Well, when Seattle jobs

"Like, arcade, basketball, essentially and you'd pick like a team. So you'd be the Knicks. It was ninety six your the Knicks your stocks in you it and when they get on fire the ball goes on fire. Pretty much everything and two or five five five percents. Give a minute here. I just wanna know your what your team would be in the back of the day SuperSonics, Kim. Peyton was like the unstoppable squad with debt lift off the bench. But who would you choose unless I five five team apart from Seattle Elliott, oh apart from Seattle and LA. I mean, I'd go New York. I mean, they're they're they're taking I'm going off top of my head Dr south cow plots and that five five cow beckerman as well. The other like easy answer. I think outside of that maybe going to little bit far, that's vox, Columbus going think. Montreal via Piazzi. Yeah. Duca actually ban malice just because I had to throw Mollison there for you just much if that's a good team malices from Minnesota. If you didn't what you end up doing. Here's your picking technical teams. Yeah. Yeah. We retro New York. Your picking have defensive or holding midfielders that you think are still going to be good in that small sided game. And can really do a couple of good job. Yeah. There's a lot of think about in that one. What what you think I'd love to hear what your Jamil teams are who would win that one for the guys Simon Borgen David Goss for our guests. Mike Pecci of the New York red bulls before I forget their argh aims on Syria. Six f c channel ninety four. You probably won't catch Thursday props. "You're encouraged to Email time MLS soccer dot com for tweet at extratime radio with me comments questions oriented. Hey, this is on one hundred dollars from the US national team. And you're listening to extra time radio. Time radio with the side of David Goss. I am Andrew we'd be we are into your mail. And as promised dumb Canir is the news announced this what Wednesday here a teleconference in conjunction between the two clubs Houston dynamo and the San Jose earthquakes resigning as head coach of the dynamo. He's on his way back quote, unquote, home back to where his family is back to where he started the head coach in San Jose. Mark Watson out immediately and interim head coach there and San Jose for now Bill in Houston immediately fire enough to us guys dynamos his ticket holder from the start, and I'll be the first to applaud Dom for everything he's done for us. You can't argue with trophies, but I can't help. But think this makes sense for all parties involved outside of Mark Watson, Dom gets to go back home. Houston gets a fresh start with a new technical structure and time to evaluate the market for TD and head coach, of course, Canadian Chris Canetti, the head of the organization organization. He's going to hire somebody else to come in and oversee that technical side. That's new changes while he says we have the makings of a roster. That's playoff-caliber with a few tweaks already. Are we said to see Dom go? Of course, good luck to him though, at the quakes, except of course, when Houston's evolved, but maybe two years from now, everybody sits down and says, you know, what this happened as it. Should that makes sense yet? This was one of the best emails, I think we've ever gotten. It's very level headed, I think, maybe it's just because I agree. Very well may be it. But all runs come to an end all runs come to an end. And I think all the party said this felt right? The moment and Houston now gets to revamp Dom gets a fresh start in the city. He loves with a new stadium gets to now. Take a whole new roster rebuild it as well. There's some work to do on that roster San Jose roster. So it works out for everyone. I think the one thing I'm not happy about Mark Watson and how he may have been treated and all this, and I don't like how the news came about. Yeah. That's something that I think both org. Innovations maybe could have done a better job in the way, the friendly went down and him not being made available to talk to media at that time as the news that come out what on Tuesday night or so there in San Jose, a tough one on that one. But I think you're right. I think if you Houston you look at it, and you say, you know, what we've got a chance to to make Mark with our head coach because everybody knew every news personality think in Houston. I think I've said it on this show before you go do lingual will lingual, and you try to get a guy with some personality that's really gonna help you market this team and really be in some ways cheerleader on the front lines for you and get that stadium. There are some packed in poppin. There are some who don't don't have that feeling that she needs to be a bilingual. I for one believe they should go. After me, gotta do whatever you. I know he's a Mexican coach signed him up. Now get one of his assistants to coach the team. I think he would be he's just the media personality that I think a team like pretty incredible cash d I'm reading your Email cash just because I really like your name and. Because you're Simon outside Borge little bit. He says he feels bad for TMC and Simon was saying he couldn't believe dumb odor. D'oro was on the bench. I've been watching him play all season saying playing person against the galaxy. Anytime he gets the ball. I know one of two things will happen sky it out of the stadium where he'll play a poor pass the other team Simon. Do you really think that he will be an MLS success with Toronto see or is he just more trade bait for that organization? I didn't say he was going to be success. But he is one of the most dangerous attacking weapons you have. Which is why I wanted to see him start. His speed is always gonna prove valuable in MLS. Which is why you're seeing when it's time is up in one team. He shows up on another because that's speed. You know, he's one guy on all EA the game for crying out loud. And that's the whole world. And that's all that. Sports. You gotta run past them. You're gonna get goals in. That's that's some logic that I'll I'll store somewhere. But I'm with you Simon on this one d'oro speeches unbalances people. And if you're trying to see in these last couple of weeks you needed unbalanced people you need to make defenders, especially why defenders think twice about doing some of the things that they did. Hey, we got two minutes before we get out of here. We had an interesting suggestion that I saw on Twitter asking us for NBA jam in less teams instead of to to go five five, and I'm going to eliminate you guys choice from Seattle in LA because I think for Seattle you got Oba deuce Papa Lonzo Evans. That's that's pretty dirty five five keen L, D Rogers service, Janine know, she's Accu do you know what we're talking about. We're jam. No, no. You are greatest video game of all time to be to like,

"Year coach, and I can't put my finger on it. But there's something different about you this year that I would say from last year where I don't know if it's more more measured more determine more focus more. I don't know. I can't I can't really put my finger on it. But you tell us what do you feel? How are you different? Now that you're about. Finish your second year. Well, I'll be the one thing. The only thing I could point to and I'm sure other people who are close here would probably have ten different things. One thing if I different point to that last year was a world wind I got named during preseason when I was under the impression on preparing his team for somebody else. And literally was right in the fire wasn't thrown in the fire was right in there. When they told me, I was coach and things just sort of just fly by the handle with I and you try to, you know, set things up and go for a plan, but it was really a hectic world when last year having whole season to over think things and try to pair. It definitely is a different feeling. It's it's more of a stressful situation. I almost missed last year where it was just so hectic because you'd have time to stress and there was stressed get me wrong. But this year, it just seems that. It's almost for for me. It's almost the end of a guess, you could say cycle for red bull until we start a new one because I started, and I say almost it's like started four years ago, when you know, when you started really building this team which area as of the focal point and whether this last year or next year, or whenever you know, it is coming to that end. So it's about a lot of a lot of personalities and a lot of player management management this year than it was last year. So those are the differences, and I'm sure you could see it on my face many times. And the game was last year was screaming and yelling and more carefree still seeming but about as much as last year, but you still have the best sweater collection in the league, Mike, I gotta give you that. Well, well, I appreciate that. That's my that's my goal before you get you out of your because you mentioned it, and I've seen the reports around and I'm sure that there's nothing to finish of yet. But the reports right now are that Andy Roxburgh in his his final season with the red bulls. And and building over two years. And that was what is original contract was four. Can you give us any update on that? You mentioned it trying to turn the page perhaps go and and keep building this team for the future. That's on. That's on that situation. I cannot give you any update on Andy Roxburgh to crucify class. It's you until I saw it today. I think it was on Twitter, and I don't know who reported it. But that was the first I've heard it. I know it's a bit of a policy. It's always been but to bit of a policy now that we're not discussing both players and staff or anything until the season's over whenever that may be. So I have no clue a not heard anything about that. And so I really couldn't comment on it. Mike how much total time are you on Twitter during the day? Twitter. We'll have this for knowing thing that beats everytime. My at thing comes up, so I don't write as much anymore. But yeah, I jump on once in a while. It's amazing because it's really replaced all talking about just the soccer and stuff. It's replaced. The new source. You know, if you want your news, you don't go to CNN, you go to Twitter most of the time, they haven't New York rebels now know how to get your attention on a daily basis. Just Mike Pecci. It's gonna send it right? Your phone check at the rebels hosting Columbus. Three PM eastern on Sunday that one's on Oni Massa going for playoff positioning there in New York. Mike big thanks for coming on with us and Chen. Thanks. Thanks, Mike, Pecci, some interesting things to say, I know you could disrupt his day potentially via Twitter. Now, I wouldn't showed that if I was Michael you said a big game for them on Sunday. Three pm eastern on Oni mask. The Columbus Crew come in to town. And then the one that I think we're all waiting for. Because this one will almost surely could be if somebody wins, it could decide the supporters show. L E galaxy hosting Seattle about all of us to quote, unquote. Best teams, certainly when it comes to record, certainly when it comes to star power that's on ESPN two and TSN to up north. So I'm in why why should we be excited about this game? That's like the easiest setup you've ever gotten in the history of podcasting. I think Seattle they have to win this. This is where I think they want to win the supporters shield in in LA because if you go leave it to the last game, I know it's at home, but you leave it to the last game and all the pressure tied with winning trophy at home and LA on the road. I think they're more comfortable sitting back waiting for you press, your pressuring you going out on the counter. So I think Seattle wants to do it now in LA. And I think they have a good chance depending again what what mood L as in. How much does Donovan stuff is continuing to fuel them. Are they high energy are they high pressure? Are they turning it on? What's what condition is keen income? Yeah. That part of it. I think Qian's the one player from these two teams combined the has to make this long trip could be an MVP race yet decided here as well. Martin's and Robbie Keane. The to almost undoubted one two's right now Brennan handed out there with the galaxy doing his best campaign manager impersonation. Let's that Seattle. They win this game. It's over supports shields. Over from what I understand supporters will be at the stadium, and they have definitely have to have a little bit. They've played LA ones that here Seattle. They played LA once this year, and they got run off the park, and that's really the only team that now they haven't seen themselves. So there has to be a little bit of grit to win the coming into this game. This is the one we want like you said we wanna win LA that where that end and early single too. LA because you remember in the play offs. This is the juggernaut that they simply can't get passed a massive game on Sunday. Eight fifteen PM eastern ESPN two and TSN to. That's all we have here going to the mailbag next. Like, I said dumb Canir up for discussion. You're

"Unveiled a witness four years in practice. Mike from one star to another unexpected one for you guys this year, Bradley Wright Phillips, and if you talk to the national media just seems like it's going to be Robbie Keane and Obafemi Martins for MVP in your opinion. Whether he breaks the record or not the single season record MLS. You think Bradley wright-phillips is in discussion for MVP well in my opinion one hundred percent, and it's going to be wrong. I'm not, you know, I'm smart enough to realize that I play he plays for me. I'm the coast. So maybe I am a little bit biased. But, you know, the one thing I've always said, you know, whoever votes on these things Obse ninety minute game a week perhaps they're looking at just goal scored. I would I would be surprised if they're looking at all the little things, you know, because if they did have for sure is in that consideration heavily in that. Iteration. I mean when I look at him when he came here last year till now said all along to the press over the last couple of months, and he talked about his goalscoring. Yes to go going is phenomenal. And it's and it's great great into about in the occupies everybody thought. But the little things that he's changed, and she's been here in data to and sacrificed, you know, willing to do for the team is for me what sets him in that caliber, not just a goal scoring Mike. I'll be honest with you when he when you guys signed Bradley wright-phillips last summer, I was among those who was maybe looking at him saying, I don't know if this is gonna work. I know he was maybe out of shape when I saw him. What has he changed? What did he do differently to get to where he's at now where he's this effective goal score? But what he's change when he's done every single thing. That's asked him said this is a kind of beating a dead horse again. But you know, it's not easy to play with the guy. Like here you on one hand extremely easy. Another hand it's very difficult, especially when you. Thing the Ford, you know, because the photo he's playing with often becomes a lone striker, which he likes drip, and and get the ball, which is what we encourage, you know, just everything from little things telling him where we want him. Whereas in the past I've told other players, and then not used to it or they wanna do with their you know, what they feel is. Right. And they go do their own thing. Grabby stands exactly where respect them today where we tell them to be. He makes those little selfless lungs that. Perhaps. He doesn't get the ball in order to free up the players and does smile, and if these and defending his work rate in defending, whereas when he first got here, I'm not saying he wasn't doing that. But he, you know, he wasn't doing it, right perhaps. And now he's just completely adapt is game. And let's let's look at the flip side of that about not being easy to play with here. I mean, if it wasn't for teary, I don't even know how many Kohl's Bradley would have. So there's a pro and con. So it's those things that he's changed every little detail. He's. Into the teams that you know that night and day from the first week or two that he's here. Mike just curiosity here on awards in general because I think when you look at him BP, everybody has a different definition. You mentioned some people are just looking at goals. They're not looking at the big picture. Some people are looking at other stats. Some people are looking at you have to be on a playoff team or a winning team for you. What what should the parameters be for that? If you were going to advise the voters, and I guess you're getting that opportunity. Now what how should that award be decided? I mean, you have to look I to look at the big picture. It's like you said the goals, maybe cysts, but you to do what you have to look at what a player does for his team. And that's why you know, could be doesn't have to me. It doesn't have to be a playoff team because if you look at a keen on a name team, but a team that's as close to the bottom already out of the playoff. Well, perhaps it's a player to those teams deck taking one game. Without that player. I think the intact at a player has on the team in order to make that team better is a big factor for me. And then of course, you throw in stats, you know, the goals assists, the things like that. But again, I don't know who's voting. I don't know how qualified everybody is. I'm sure a lot of them are qualified to really look at the game. And how it should be played Mike the red bulls on a little bit of a hot streak here winters of three or four five of seven. And I would say sitting from where I am is that one of the reasons that you. Have been able to get on this run this more stable lineup that I would say that that involves maybe McCarty, and I'll exander K hell non involved in the mix, but it's a more stable team. And I know you've had to face a lot of these KO questions. But you said I picked the lineup. This is the lineup. I think works. I think it looks like it's working when it comes down to. It's pretty simple, right? I mean, it's it's the most balanced lineup. You have. Well, yes, let's go back to the comedy just made just want to clarify that about Kato. I mean table hasn't when kale's didn't available. There's only one game is please his last game. So it's not that came out of the mix. It all you know, it's been one time in two years when he was completely healthy and just decided to try something else. So ten is a big part of this moving forward, and we're gonna need to whatever role. So it's not that Tim's out having said that I mean it come to a point. I mean last year when we started using my first my first game, Portland. We're playing a four three, and I was sticking to my guns throughout preseason in the first three games or so and it took a lot for me to change to a four four two. But the reason why we had to change of foot because of the personnel had I was sick. And that was tough for me wasn't as taught this year to go move say decks and Eric back to more of a holding role. Because so obvious you'd something like that stopgap, I guess you could say. Whereas yes, our defense was being a bit porous and it was easy to point to them. But what's leading up to that? And for me, it was playing almost two separate teams and attacking defending team. And it's definitely not something that we had by design is just a natural to the players that we add natural instincts to go forward if they back, and now just identified those places that we really need to to to shore up, and I think that's an Eric had done a phenomenal job. And I've told all along since I'd gotten you is that what's going to get into the highest level would that be national tea or that the if you could still possibly go to your whatever he wants to do what's going to get him. There is not always the sexy and the good looking thing as far as controlling the ball dribbling at people and shooting. Sometimes you look guy Kyle decadent when I I played with him in Colorado. He was a wild man, and they came and you went to Salt Lake and Jason Kreis and Robin Frazier tamed him and showed him that playing one to touch and being that stopgap. In front is what's going to game? And look he's one of the stars. They World Cup this year. So I think denting those things in realizing that that's gonna help our team was the reason why we fish. Of course decks gets go for in the last game. So we still produce on that side too. And you gotta love that the crew a team that's resurgent as well. They're in a hot vein of form. It certainly looks like they'll jump into the playoffs perhaps even playoff matchup a preview, shall we say this week Sam the way I see you guys could finish anywhere from second to fifth and those spots have different different things that come with them home games, a certain time playing games, whatever you wanna call them. You know, obviously, you want to get the by everybody wants to get the buy. But as far as format goes. And I know home form is so rich for you guys. How important really is it to have home field advantage? You think it's that much better to have that second game at home or you. Okay. If you okay. Trying to get a quick start in a series and having in the first game. It's actually vital for the plane game, obviously. But if we're talking about she's one to four after that to be honest with you. I'm not I'm not completely convinced on the ROY. I know from a marketing standpoint from an organizational standpoint every team wants to weekend game. So usually that falls on the second game. But for me, it's how you take care of business at home and how you play on the road, and whether that be in a playoff playing for a draw playing bit intelligently hoping Nikko goal. Maybe get a win out of air. But really comes down to the home game. That's the first game where you have to turn them on. And put the pressure on them. You know, second game second games at home. The with a lot of times on you. If the first names at home, if you do your job and put the pressure on the other team to go back home and take care of business where perhaps they should. So I really don't have too much of a preference. But the first obviously playing gaming needs to be at home. No, Mike, you could be in your final days of enjoying the title, a shield champions because of the Seattle. Sounders could clinch it coming up this weekend. I'm curious where has the support of shield lived when it's been with New York this whole year. I would assume I would be I would be I'd lie to you. If I gave you an answer. I have no idea. Okay. Pick up sitting in my office at a picture of my family, and I would shield that's as close as I've been supported shift since we wanted to couple of days after that. And then when we had to picture taken. It's listen it's in the past. It's a phenomenal part of our history now, and we're very proud of it. But really not been spoken about since. You know, we started this season this year, and hopefully we got a handgun against sometime in the future. Trying to build up for the playoffs here. The crew a little bit of a strange team in the sense that they've done all this without that kind of well that Bradley Wright Phillips so to speak the guy up top that banging and goals in a consistent basis, really occupying centrebacks, they've gone kind of by committee. It's a lot of runners out of the midfield. Does that complicate things? When when you're playing a team like that, you don't have that traditional guy up top you have guys coming from all angles, and how do you prepare your team to to defending them hope prepare them, especially today, really hit on some things that we think are key that they like to do. And I think could give them a lot of credit agree with what you're saying. If they had a high goal score right now, they would be at the top of the league. I 'cause I really I think they're very good team. But they're just missing that little bit of you know, in the finishing third. Yeah. They're very fluid team in the one thing that impresses me. The most about Columbus is the fact that they will play out of the back on the pressure. All those looks like they're forcing it. But they had that confidence. You know, many times that we'll track jobs back, and it's a foreword is three feet from him. The goal is still plays it to them shows confidence and shows that they had the ability to do that. And like you said they put numbers high to spread that field doubts what they wanna do team sprint split spread and create those two ones in the middle. And they have guys whether it'd be narrow more hit while, you know, whoever it is Finley coming from high positions back into the midfield to join and it kind of it kind of gets confusing sometimes, but I've been impressed with them. I think Greg is on a great job with him. And I think it's going to be a very difficult game for us and job is to make it more difficult because we're at home for them, Mike, you're in your second year

"Think. That they are wrong. I think is interesting Simon has said, I don't know how he looks them in the is is if he's making a statement about them, and I think it's the opposite. I think he's trying to say in this interpreting your wins. I don't think he values less. Yeah. I exactly right. Try and get in that head. I don't think he values MLS has high as some of the people that we work with as well as us do into. He's telling them that he thinks they're better. He's not saying that they're bad because they play in the league. He's saying I think you're better. But you're good enough. Yeah. I think he's says he says wait he says in these comments, which I think a lot of it was geared towards Josie altitude was asked about Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley. But I think a lot of it was geared towards guys that are in Europe trying to avoid that move happening for them to come back, and he says to him he needs to stay. He needs to fight through it. And he's good enough to play at a Champions League team. Now, that's a broad statement. He could play at Bron be or he could play at PS G. Those are two different. I'm sure is looking for a stroke. Exactly. But he's not saying, I don't think you're good. He saying I think you're better. And I think you're good enough. So I think that's why he feels comfortable saying these things I don't think he sees it as taking the attack. But he's I mean, that's that's not not valid statement. Okay. So. Yeah. You might be good enough to play at a buyer Munich or write an arsenal. Tottenham whatever it is. But if the if he's good enough to play their wise, not good enough to play here. You what I'm trying to say see at the other way, David. They're not good enough to play here. Nope. But my point is if he saying they're good enough. They're towns. Good enough to to feature for arsenal feature for Tottenham and the big clubs. Why is that not good enough to just to stay here? And be starts my point on all. This was your has made this point known for a year. This has been a year long running thing with him ever since Clint Dempsey came back. It's all about it. It's really been about the Champions League from the very star. But it's really kind of gained urgency in his public comments. And we're going back to Deng Garber in this whole situation and why he came out with such heat. And why he was so emotional about it. I I think everybody's acknowledged. This will be the first to acknowledge this. Look, you protect the business that that that you're building just basic if somebody comes in attacks, you you you respond to that. And I think Don did that and sometimes very motion that since, but I think it was a long time coming because I think I think you're Clinton has been for lack of a better word trolling molest for the better part of a year since I said Clint Dempsey going through this whole. A year is players came back as the World Cup came around. And then I especially saw in Hartford I thought when he brings up the NFL versus MLS debate. And he says, you know, I I can't tell the difference because they don't play by the way you're in. That's the same issue that we would have comparing MLS to any league in the world. And then also talks about promotion relegation says he's a fan of it that was poking the league in its owners in the eye. That was saying look your business model what you're doing. I don't I don't know that I agree with it. And and one thing about your clansman that that has been consistent throughout his career. He wears out his welcome. He does he did it as a player in a lot of different clubs a lot is made played in all these different countries. Well, well, how did that is because those clubs were done with him at a certain point he or he moved on or he was impatient. He said something that rub people the wrong way. I think that he's done this here. And I think that maybe his comments weren't has controversial as they have seemed in the in all the debate in the brouhaha after but it's interesting and talking about your versus. Malysz landon. Donovan big part of that. And I think that's the big debate. Here is Josie author better off sitting on the bench at Sunderland or like Marita do who wasn't getting any time. And you can say look, you're not developing in that environment. Do you have to get time? And maybe as that place because you know, that's where you get the best the best benefits, and you know, your role, and I think one of the things that we will agree with every players different their people. They have different scenarios. I think for your Clinton making these statements. He's trying to point to the players like Juan dela we've been asked a million times in emails and tweets from fans was't, why didn't Delo comeback in the in the last transfer window. He's trying to fight for place in Europe trying to stay, and I think you're in Clinton wants that from his players now that might not be the right thing where everyone it clearly doesn't look like the right thing for breakfast yet. He continues to bring back breath, Shane international team camps. So that shows where his mindset is over a player who maybe Michael Parker who comes back to Emma less and may not get another look under your clothes. We were talking before the show John Anthony Brooks dropped from his team. He's on the outs there. And he continues to bring him in. When you don't bring a Matt hedges from Dallas, arguably one of the defenders of the year in the league. So look we're going to get into this euro versus MLS debate. And we can go on forever right now. There are a ton of US talents in Europe. How many of them are actually getting minutes? And then you look back at what Michael Bradley said about his experience in Europe where he felt that European squads have a bias against the the the US player. Not in don't give a the opportunity to the US player in comparison to. Perhaps. And and his example of if it's true that he was potentially going to transfer to arsenal for a small transfer fee. And instead they took an injured Kim calls Trump. That's as big an example as you need over Michael Bradley at twenty six who's able to run a midfield and play ninety minutes. And so when we have this debate, and your Klinsmann has to also understand that it's just you don't snap a finger in your on a on a team playing regularly. So like, you mentioned Josie L to door is this really a positive last six months they've been positive for him. Let's go to years, and how many young players are also playing in Europe and not getting time. I mean, there are a fifty you mentioned fifty names of guys toiling in Europe and not getting minutes. And is

Europe Clint Dempsey Michael Bradley Clinton Tottenham US Josie altitude MLS Simon Champions League Josie L Michael Parker Deng Garber John Anthony Brooks Josie Matt hedges Klinsmann Munich Malysz landon
