At least 1 of Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson’s accusers attempted to blackmail him
"Gonna move on briefly to addition watson because you know what we promised. We'll give you the shawn watson update every day and we will do that because it changes every day. What number we now here. A colonic sixteen. Yeah it is. What's fourteen lawsuits. Isn't it to. Because the time this thing drops people listen numbers rate in this situation. I think at this point where We're past the point of needing to get the data on the information now at true affords like we're at. Are you a predator or not zone. Like that's i don't know. I haven't read a the guy in the houston. Chronicle his name wilson yet. Yup does he still think sixteen are lining up to make a deal. How silly was that premise. That people still want to trade from no one would trade anything form. They wouldn't take him for nothing. The miami dolphins new york jets new england patriots niners broncos. None of them would take to shawn watson for nothing. They didn't win. Give you a thing for the shawn watson because this guy has a problem. He's not who we thought he was. I'm ready to jump to conclusions and say he was inappropriate with many many women and he had a fetish couldn't just be one or two. He wanted to do this to a number women because he probably enjoyed the challenge. Enjoyed the danger of it. All and today mike florio from pro football taco used to be a lawyer. He's got a piece saying what he would do if he you know because a lot of people ask them. What would you do if he hired you. He didn't hire florio. Had tony busby. Who's either a A lawyer or a the most incredible conman the most credible Shakedown artist of all time. Because he's the one who's updating every day with the number of masseuses who are charging accusing deshaun watson of inappropriate behavior. But but but two things two things here. He gives all this advice florio and it's reasonable. He said he'd sit down and try to get all the women or their representative in a room to make one big settlement trying to make it all. Go away with one big paycheck that they could and they clearly are looking for that because they're not having gone to the cops which brings me to point number two and end to the point where they try to basically extort him out of thirty one of them tried to extort him out of thirty grand in january. I believe i'm not sure that's extortion. If you're saying will agree not to charge you and these are hard working people at working class girls. Maybe who and by way are people like julia to cairo in on people like Niece smelly they waiting to see what race these women are. Because they haven't had much to say about this yet. But i assume they are. They going to wait and see what race they are and then they decide how they feel about it. Which is madness.
Big money brings bigger expectations for Dak
"You finally needed me. Dan Orlovsky, the great analyst for the Mothership. NFL Live continues daily throughout the entire off season at four Eastern on ESPN, Catch Dan with Adam Schefter. Marcus Spears, meaning times Laura Rutledge, four. P. M. Eastern daily on ESPN. Dan. Thanks for joining us. Did the Cowboys have a great day? Yesterday? The Cowboys did not Jack Prescott did Jack press cop Doc Prescott. His family did. But this is a big time swing and miss for the Cowboys. I think that they took a calculated risk. You know, they tried to be patient and patient and patient and didn't want to do something like the Rams and the Eagles did. But man, that is a ton of money to give that Prescott What should the expectation Level B for cowboy fans this year? This year. It Luis, You're stuck in second round of the playoffs. Sniffing your NFC championship game, You know, like here's Here's. This is what my comment is with this, and it's the old saying too much is given much is expected. This is why I was very cautious of giving Dak Prescott a ton of money or second most quarterback money. It's going to impact your football team and we can't snow sit here and say, Well, he's really good. But the expectation status, saying the expectations have to be elevated. Not only individually Hey, what are left tackles out. We still have to win the game on the road against the New York Jets because they stink or when we don't have a Mark Cooper. We still got to play good at the position because you're supposed to be And a difference maker. When it comes to the finances. It's a bad division. I still have to wait to see what happens in Washington at the quarterback spot. If they got a quarterback that I thought was a good player arrived. Patrick I think that I would favor them to win the division because I think Dallas still has issues defensively Offensive
Why 10 Super Bowl Appearances Won't Satisfy Tom Brady
"Hey thanks for joining me man. Good to be here. Seth wicker sham is a senior writer at espn and he's covered. Tom brady since his rookie year in the nfl. Words with you. Seth you are. Espn's resident. tom. Brady you've been covering brady for nearly twenty years. I believe at this point. You're the first person to report. That brady was looking for a way out of new england back when that was on thinkable and honestly kind of dangerous to suggest in the boston area. But your piece out. Today ahead of. Tom brady's tenth super bowl in tampa bay with the buccaneers. It actually begins a decade ago back in new england. What happened a couple years ago. I was in tom. Brady's house and we were in his living room and he was telling a funny story about bill belichick. It was a saturday morning meeting before a game against new york. Jets and bella. Check was watching film of mark sanchez. Running out of the pocket rolling to his right players it is heels and he had a wide open receiver about sixty yards downfield on the opposite hash. So that's an almost impossible. Throw to attempt. I mean few quarterbacks ever would try that throw even fewer would complete it and the way that brady told it to me. That ballot check was just watching the play unfold and he was like just throw it. He's wide open. Why isn't sanchez. Throwing the ball and brady's little thought bubble was hilarious because he was thinking. I would never even attempt that throw. Do you have any idea how i would look in. Tried to throw that ball. And meanwhile checks just like can't get even more open. He can't get more open. Just throw it in. The way that brady explained to me later was very interesting because he said i see each play within my limits at the time. I didn't really see the significance in that statement. But when you watch. Tom brady now aged forty three years old and the entire sporting world asking how. He's done it how he's been able to get another team to the super bowl. I looked back at that statement. And i found a lot of answers in it was brady frustrated with ballot check. Invalid check suggested as much. I wanna get deeper into. Brady's thought bubble there. I think he thought it was hilarious. He he saw it as a defensive coach who had no bearing on the reality of how difficulties throw that ball. He wasn't frustrated with ballot check. He was like a little amazed that bella check thought that that type of pass would be so easy i mean. That's that's a john elway throw. That's josh allen throw mahomes through. There's very few people who could ever even try that and here. Ballot check was talking about mark sanchez. Saying he's not going to get more open than that. Just throw the ball. As kind of an indictment on the quarterback where brady saw it as you know something that was hard to believe. Couldn't believe that that his coach thought that a throw like that with that easy. And when you look at tom brady look at the arc of his career. He's someone who's kind of always understood his limits and by understanding them so well he's found a way to transcend them so those limits that he has this keen understanding of and that being this superpower. It is something that we can. Plainly see in contrast to josh allen and john elway and patrick mahomes and lamar jackson. These absurd physical talents. And that's been clear set ever since we saw brady with shirt off to be honest at the combine in two thousand but because he is also the greatest of all time without real serious dispute at this point playing more super bowls than anyone ever by far at to ask if you fully buy his explanation that that superpower is in fact and understanding of his own limitations. At first i didn't. And i remember. I was once in his house in two thousand thirteen back when we thought he was getting old. 'cause he was going to be thirty seven when the season started. And you know he can't play forever and he said something really interesting. He said there's nothing that will be able to replace football. And hopefully it gets to appoint where there is when i retire in nine ten years and he said it so offhandedly and so smooth that it was it went right over my head. It was a shot across the bow. Here was a declaration to play until he was aged forty five and he someone who has made a mockery of conventional wisdom. And so i thought there is no way when he said that that he was someone who learned how to play football within the scope of his own limitations. But as you watch him play you actually see it on the field. And i think that it helps define him as a football player because he can't do what aaron rodgers does. He can't do it. Patrick mahomes does these sort of amazing acrobatic throws but what he can do and what he's always been able to do is pick apart a defense and bleed teams to death. And i think that that's what he was getting at when he talks about playing within his own limits because he's so deadly an accurate when he throws short.
How 9/11 Set Robert Saleh on the Path to Coaching the New York Jets
"And how many years have you been covering this franchise. Pablo f govern the jets for thirty two years. Which is longer than any person in history that's deserves a purple heart or you know a trip to the insane asylum but yes. It's thirty two years. And so how. Many coaches coaches have you seen. Come through the new york jets in that time. Yeah it's funny because the other day w- before they introduced roberts sala. I went back and checked because we need covered. That long. And the jets chains coaches so often you lose track over over time. He ends well. Total man okay. So you're the perfect person to talk to today. Your latest piece rich is about number twelve robert sala and his decidedly unique journey to new york city and the nfl coaching ranks. So before we get into all of the football and there is so much there. Tell me a little bit about robert. Saleh's background where did he grow up in. What was his upbringing like. Robert grew up in dearborn michigan which is just outside of detroit. Most people know it as a home of ford motor company but it's also the largest percentage of arab americans in the country. He is the grandson of lebanese immigrant. Muslim neighborhood a very strong and closely knit neighborhood and football was a big part of it. At robert really has football in his family. His dad played at eastern michigan university. He was. I'm told a very good middle linebacker. In fact he had a tryout with the chicago bears uncles who played cousins. Who played his older brother. David played all at ford's in high school. You mentioned the solid name at forts in high school and there is a strong tradition. Some of the best players in the schools history are members of the family from an early age. When robert was a seven year old waterboy for his older brother's football team. Football has been a huge part of his life. The family's life very much part of his upbringing in dearborn michigan so robert is growing up in this lebanese-american muslim family in dearborn a football family. What kind of player was robert himself. Yeah very good player. A captain in highschool played two ways. He was a linebacker in a tight end and really good. I talked to his high school coach. Jeff sturdiness in. I asked him. I said what kind of player was robert. He said he was like all the other solids he can really hit. You actually wears a bracelet to this day on his on his wrist during games. It says extreme violence. So i guess we could describe him as a very physical player who was good enough to get a scholarship in northern michigan and he went on to become an all conference. Tight end in northern michigan fell was ever a serious option for him. But i would say you know a really good ice school football player who enjoyed a solid career. So if you're a football player with that decidedly unsubtle mission statement rich. What do you do after college. Robert went to the exact opposite spectrum of what that mission statement would be. I mean he goes to work behind a desk working a nine to five job in a very stuffy. Corporate office building in downtown detroit is a credit analyst for america bank putting his finance degree work. His brother david is in the financial world is well you know. He graduated with a finance degree. So this is just following in the footsteps of his family. You know his dad had some done. Some business work. His grandfather was actually owned his own furniture store in dearborn. So he's really robert. Sala is point in his life in the year. Two thousand just anna colleges just following in the footsteps of some of his other relatives.

"Black men. Clyde drexler akeem malaysian. Carl lewis andre ware don. Cheney even stuck around and became the head coach of the houston rockets. That sort of stuff wasn't happening at texas texas. Am or anywhere at that point. Really the cougars. Meant something to me. And lots of other people in that part of the world in ways that went far beyond the games but when the southwest conference left them behind in one thousand nine hundred five. The cougars never really recovered. This spent the next seventeen years of conference usa before moving to the american athlete conference in two thousand thirteen. Insure you know. They've had a few moments since then. Did you know the cougs. Football team has gone. Thirteen in one twice in the past nine years and the basketball team is currently ranked tenth in the nation. You know shout out to kelvin sampson. Hope springs eternal for revival in houston. But it's not the eighties and nineties anymore. Don cheney is retired and seventy four years old was just blows my mind. And think don cheney being seventy four years old and southwest conferences. Never coming back that tweet about the cougar schedule. Canceled canceled canceled is a reminder of the pandemic and how it's ruined so much in ways it seem unfair but the thing is it will end in college. Football will return to normal a something like that but with the end of the southwest conference did to my team the cougs. That's forever baylor baylor dastardly. That's my response to your wonderful heartfelt. Felt after ball is baylor shaking my damn head at baylor. They've done so much done so much. Wrong baylor stephan. Baylor also rice giant football stadium at rice concrete man concrete that concrete bowl. Seventy thousand for the super bowl in nineteen seventy. Yeah that game. It's the perfect joel. Anderson college football game lake the bayou bucket houston bragging rights on the line and also just extreme pettiness. Whatever we can do to stick it to the whole obscure quarterbacks. "Now it is time for after balls this past year in pretty much every year recently has been a tough one for sports journalists without outlets getting shut. Down and jobs getting slashed. A lot of people we've had on this show and we'll continue having on this show have lost work. The latest round of cuts came to espn last week. And one of the people on the layoff list with sam miller. You know sam if you're a long-time listener of the show. He was the editor in chief of baseball prospectus. He's the co author with ben lindberg of the book. The only rule is it has to work and for the past four years. He's been a baseball writer for. Espn one thing. People say about writers that there's nobody else out there like them. There's nobody else out there doing work like they do and that cliche is almost always not true. But in sam's case there is no better after his brain does not work like other people's brains and the results for baseball fans and non. Baseball fans are totally delightful. When i think about him. I think all about the pc wrote in two thousand eighteen about what would happen if a baseball game went. Fifty innings. Five zero innings. We actually had him on the show to talk about it and will link to that segment on our show page. What i love about that piece is how seriously sam took that question as he takes all of their ridiculous questions that he contrives dancer. There's a sub head for instance deepen the story that reads stage four. We start to question cruelty spectators innings forty five to forty nine then it goes on and discuss research on dance marathons of the nineteen twenty s. So i'm here to praise sam for that piece for everything else and also to make the point z cruel business just like many other businesses and here's to obeying the next year is just a little kinder to all of us. Jal what is your sam miller. Sam miller so last week. Joseph duarte the houston chronicle tweeted out the twenty twenty football schedule for the university of houston. And i'd like to say the. Joseph tweet is the perfect capsule of the chaos. That's befallen the cougars. While trying to play college football in this pandemic so the tweet reads as follows. Rice canceled washington state cancelled baylor cancelled north. Texas cancelled memphis rescheduled smu rescheduled tulsa cancelled. Smu cancelled overall. The three and three cougars haven't played a game since they're fifty six to twenty one win over south florida on november fourteenth. Their season finale scheduled for saturday memphis but at this point who knows that game is actually going to happen in not right. It's all the side of the turbulent times but for me it's also reminded that the cougs have been to the minor leagues on the same day. Joseph tweet my friends. Sam con junior and dave wilson published a story at espn dot com about the demise of the ohl southwest conference which into twenty five years ago with one win. Houston taking going to seven in one rice. They used to be able to. If you're if you're young used to be able to tie in college football okay. So to seventy one rice in the cross town by you. Bucket rivalry texas versus. Sex is supposed to have been the final game in southwest conference history. You know this matchup of ranked rivals vying for the last conference title but instead rice tried to stick it to the league officials in its scheduled the kickoff against houston to take place ninety minutes after the texas and am game began just a good bit of pettiness going out the door so enlisted attendance of twenty eight thousand. Four hundred which didn't even fit have filled. The seventy thousand seat stadium was treated to a barn burner. Chuck clements through two fourth quarter. Touchdown passes and added at two point. Conversion with one nineteen left to give houston eighteen. Seventeen lead rice missed a thirty eight yard fill college kickers right with twelve seconds remaining to seal the cougs victory the lead of the. Ap's right up at the game. The once glorious. Southwest conference went out in style. I mean yeah sort okay. But as the southwest conference going out the big twelve was coming in houston was supposed to get an invite to join the big twelve. A new mega conference with big tv money. But that's one of the texas politics took over. Texas governor and lieutenant governor at the time both baylor graduates and democrats. If you want to know how long ago this was lobbied. Their mama to get in over houston and that was that baylor was welcomed into the big twelve in houston was banished to the conference usa. Meanwhile rice smu and tcu. We're joined the western athletic conference formerly known as the whack but the university of houston deserve better in. Let me explain more than any other major program in texas. If not the whole south houston is responsible for the desegregation of college. Athletics in one thousand nine hundred sixty four houston which was then playing as an independent became the first major college football program in the state to break the color barrier. And that's when it's warm mcvay to a scholarship. Houston also signed. Its first black basketball players that year elvin hayes and don cheney hazing cheney lead the cougars consecutive final four berths and football. Bill yeoman pioneered the offense and turned the cougars into a force making them a mainstay of the top twenty five. Eventually the in the state took notice and welcomed them into the southwest conference in one thousand nine hundred seventy six and guess what houston won the southwest conference in its first season in the league. In fact houston won the southwest conference in three of its first four seasons and remember at this point. Del royal is still the head coach of the mighty sexist. Longhorns in isn't too far removed from a national championship in nineteen seventy just that quickly houston flip. The balance of power in the league is houston started. Its decline as a football power in the eighties. The cougars rose again in basketball and played and lost the national championship game and consecutive seasons nineteen eighty three and eighty four by this time allegations of cheating and other improprieties dog houston in the rest of the southwest conference as the end of the eighty s. Jack party brought the run-and-shoot to houston in thrived under the specter of probation but eventually ncwa penalties in the increasingly fractured. Southwest conference took their toll on the program as many people who listened to this show no a houston native and i grew up rooting for the cougs. They were the hometown team. They were the first team to break my heart. And why. I'm trying to rationalize my disdain. For jim valvano even to this day. Imagine how it must have felt for young black boy to root for college program. Welcome black athletes before everyone else in. Who's biggest stars had been.

"I was like who who's getting paid way too much money to make stupid decision. I'm sorry you know me. And my unemployed south. At the time. Because i had just got laid off. So that's why. I had enough time to do research and write by anything. I was able to figure this out and about a day's worth of research so i don't understand how people who are supposed to be the profession working with universities and higher education space and spent however many months and paid it however many hundreds of thousands of dollars gave a recommendation that lead to such poor decision so brown when they announced these changes said actually that finances didn't have anything to do with their stated rationale was that they had too many sports programs and that they wanted to do this to ensure that the ones that were still at the varsity level were more competitive and they said that diversity was an important factor for them and then when you and others called them out for this decision day reversed it. Do you think that that's an example of a school recognizing their mistake when they were called out like. Do you think that it was like a screwed up. Process the consultant instead of bad job or whatever and then it was all like it all ended up. Well in the end or do you feel like it's not kind of as as rosy as that um storyline would suggest i wanna give credit where it's due. I mean they made a mistake but they did course correct and they did it. They did so rather quickly so a week. After i pin my article in medium the decision and they're nothing they actually emitted that they did not realize the impact that cutting track would have on diverse opportunities. So i do give them credit or acknowledging that faults and course correcting in that way the other universities university of minnesota hand when the mary when everyone said that the teams what minnesota didn't have impressively saddam went sleep under the rug woman. Mary's was a little bit more complicated. Because the ad May have an axe to leave and then it was a new ad that came in and then all of the sports that were actually were reinstated and so there wasn't necessarily an explicit leasing that i saw that noted diverse opportunities thing without by cutting a track and field. But you know they did all the permits which was pretty missiles actions kind of similar to something that brown did. Let me explain so brown. When initially announced that they were cutting these sports. They said that they were doing so to improve. Competitiveness also improve the diversity amongst all sporting offerings at the club and rc level. They in stating that. They were baking on people's this kind of frank. Ignorance ignorance about how sports in college work and it kinda completed club sport barsky sport clubs sports not sponsored by yet lead department that do not institutional funding and it's been a significant way. They do not get emission spots whereas varsity athletics dots so the mistake team was going to be demoted to club. Which would add an effect diversified the club offerings and so when the university said that they were going to be this decision will help to improve diversity. That was what they were talking about but they were really hoping that people didn't understand the nuances between club and varsity athletics. What seems manifestly ridiculous here. Of course is that the cost of running a college track program at the varsity level is basically a rounding error in football budget at a place like clemson or even at a place like minnesota and this is of course. But it's different than william and mary right. It is definitely married and it's different brown. Brown had thirty eight varsity sports the most in the country. I believe so you have this. There are different issues and each of these universities. I mean i think at the at the big schools of the criticism really should be that. They should be supporting all these sports. You could you. Could you could easily continue to fund track at clemson. It seems to me while making some modest reductions during this crisis time of the pandemic in football and at the other schools you know we had a conversation on the show. A few weeks ago about uc riverside california considering eliminating all division one varsity sports and moving to a club system. It's really incumbent on the university's admit the same level of student and athlete if they chose to but they choose to use sports as a mechanism to admit students of color very often. You know those were points a few a few things. So i think needs to be a renegotiation of the relationship between sport in college and how you know these universities you The role of sports colleges and too often approaches. Look at Especially the faisal's look at look at sport as something that needs to pay for itself when in actuality we know that there are only a few sports that pay for themselves. It's football men's basketball in that. Select programs women's basketball at certain places and then a few other programs At a few different places like ice hockey Pays for itself at a barely. They were in degreen by bow. Fifty thousand dollars. You know so. Not in extreme about money but they pay for themselves but most other sports do not pay themselves. No it's possible to make the argument that okay track programs aren't making money. So if we're being called a capitalist and let's Let's cut up and just put in things that generate money but there's also it's also possible to make a critique of this from the opposite direction which is that The athletes that are making money for the schools are predominantly black men's basketball and football players. And that what you're asking for is a transfer of money that those athletes generate to you know whether it's a sailing team or a gymnastics team or attract team all athletes that aren't generating revenue. So why shouldn't we be arguing. That money should just go to the football and basketball players that are making like why should i go to to track athletes. Who aren't making money for their universities. That's a great question. And i don't think those things are mutually exclusive. I think the audi's on bass players should be getting money for the value that they are generating at the same time. I also think that the university should take it upon themselves to supporting programs that award verse opportunities. Because here's the thing people will say well track needs to pay for itself. Most other sports college do not hate for themselves. So what happens. Ed if that The football you're not asking for track to get special treatment. It's just like the same treatment that other sports can these other. Sports are getting subsidized by the football basketball teams and they a majority white. And so you have a wealth. Transfer currently happening whether these black football and basketball players overwhelmingly about sixty percent of the ncaa d. one are mismatch mcclair's black in about fifty percent of the fellow players black which is overrepresentation because black people about thirteen fourteen percent of the us population. Total that money that they're generating is going east. Being spun up in the top position being spun up into lavish glacial locker rooms and episodes upgrades and as being spun up into helping to bolster the majority white mostly sports programs at universities. And so i'm saying okay. There are two things need to happen. What we need how we can help. These athletes get their value. You get the worse than there was more than just a fifty thousand dollars or seventy thousand dollars. Scholarship if they're producing had two thousand dollars of a value per student To the university but then also sets the value that they're generating is currently helping to support majority white programs at the very least that value should be used to support the only black students on this campus or on these campuses who do not produce revenue but the university. Because let me be clear what is happening with these university effectively. Saying is that if you are a black student athlete you do not make money for us. We can cut you because we do not find value however most of our western akwa to do not make money for us. We view them differently. That we have to them is different with you. That is important for them. To have an education sport and that they're having experienced they're not asked to pay them selves in the way that these athletes are are being exit. I think we can put a pin in it there. Obviously the ongoing fallout from the pandemic and economic crisis will be an ongoing issue in college athletics. And we'll bring russell back to talk about it especially if he can save the clemson men's track team which is his ongoing project right now so you can follow russell. It is dancing. Dink's is that your your twitter handle that much wetter. Hanoi yes it is is this. Is that because you dance. I'm surprised you didn't go with running dink's but not yes. Okay so we you can follow russula. Dancing dink's russell. Thanks for joining us today. Row thank you guys for having me so much. Life can be stressful..

"Pick coming out of kentucky like the probably biggest story in the nba commended nba. That offseason. it was like you know he was the man and so. I'm sitting here at this hotel in this booth with john wall and a guy comes up to the table as somebody who does When you're like with a celebrity. And he goes this person. Are you josh levin whereas like yeah and he said i love your podcast. I you not reasons. Like one of the only times. I've ever been recognized and public as the like voice from hang up in less than a year after we started doing the show and the guy came up and said to me while sitting with john wall. I love your podcast and then walked away. Wow what did john wall think of that. I think he probably thought it was like come on. It was like i was playing a prank on trying to make myself look cool. But i like. I don't remember who this person was. I did not set it up. It was one of the stranger things that ever happened to me. But that is a true story. Show right to hang up. Its dot com. If you if you're that person listening. Because i would love to know who you are. Would you want to do that. I think you're selling your story short josh because at the end of the story it doesn't include the john wall workout because men's health magazine. Okay crunchy crunch medicine. Ball throw plank work at walkout made all that does a link to the story we will. We will link to it on our show page. I would not deprive our listeners. Welcome you to houston. John wall if you ready to if you need any advice on where to go eat live whatever. Hit me up if you happen to hear this because you know turkey turkey legs turkey like we can start their jesse. James high probably already took you there to be honest with you. Know it'd be great if you guys went out to breakfast though and some dude walked up to you and said joel anderson. Oh man you could happen. You finally decided to learn how to escape. So you ordered the essentials..

"Even elite athletes in their performance. We don't know how yet but the last time we saw russell westbrook was he was a fucking mess as rockets fan. I was like man. I don't want russell westbrook. They had the ball in his hands anymore. Which is something you would never think you would say about a guy like that. But that's how he looked at. So i think that's what people are judging it on but i mean if you like as a rockets fan you have to think that this is just again a another contract. James harden son one of those supermax. He was the third guy to get one of them. And you have to think that this is all just a prelude to whatever you know. It's it's i moved to placate harden to see if they can get him to wanna stick around right. Isn't that sad because he's not gonna wanna stick around right russell. Westbrook didn't want to be there. He's like hey fine. I'm fine with john wall. What comes so. They're going to see if that's going to work and then when that doesn't work this is the you know a milestone on the way to whatever the next iteration of the team is going to be right and so the it's pretty clear that the rockets are in decline. And they're not going to be a better team is as much as i like. John wall as much as i want to see john wall play nobody. Nobody can argue. The john wall is a better basketball player than russell. Westbrook and especially now right. What would you just hoping is that it's a good fit. The john wall wants to be there. And maybe they can tinker a little bit and maybe the rockets can make some noise. But i mean you. That's all hoping the rockets did not win the trade. But this is not about winning that trait this is about rebuilding the foundation there one way or another and then what. If you're the wizards you know what are you hoping for. You're hoping that westbrook can complement bradley. Beal and not be a total ball hog and volume shooter whose numbers are terrible and at the same time as a team. That's got some young players that look pretty promising. How effective can he be in bringing them into the game. Well there's this issue in the nba. I think more so than our other major professional sports where there are certain franchises. That are on a long term path to at best being a playoff team. That has no chance to win a championship. And we've talked about this in the context of the process sixers and just this kind of cultural belief that if you're not first you're last that if you're not on the path twenty championship then it's better to like bottom out and try to lose on purpose than it is gopher the succeed and like maybe get into the round as the wizards dead at their best when when john wall was there. But so. that's the question then. If you're the wizard it's like okay. You get westbrook and like in your best case you're like the seven seed in the east and like what are you doing okay. Maybe what you're doing is you're going to be in the playoffs. Be entertaining and and like an in a place where you know as joel get into and the jordan pod Next week like that is not the norm to be like entertaining playoff team in dc. I don't necessarily have the sense that that's what the goal is of the franchise but like that's what they're saying is like where we're saying are ceiling the seven seed but if that's the outcome it's not like the worst thing that's ever happened in the history of sports and i also just want to ask you. What is the fill in the blank on this progression chris. Paul russell westbrook john wall. Who's next clyde frazier gift. Right steve. nash. I mean we're we're we're we go now. You can even proceed. Chris paul dwight howard in this chain so yeah i mean we. We haven't really had a swing person yet. So maybe you know like george gervin but yeah it's just you know high volume guy. He's still in his prime. Yeah got a guy that can't get along with james harden and you know man a few years ago when the rockets broke up. James harden chris paul by theory. Was that man guys. Work it out. Because you know this always happens though. I'm going to houston rockets. Fan long enough to remember when it ki- malaysia one one at out of town and like the early ninety s and they just held onto. They made it work and then they won two championships out of it. Nothing sometimes teams. Just throw into tile a little too early and so like now to be comfortable with being uncomfortable just him be let him be mad they go. They'll they'll figure it out. I think they're adults. So you have a point. Now where james harden didn't wanna play with chris. Paul and chris botti james harden and then russell westbrook didn't want to now john wall but we've like progressively gotten worse players at each stage so it's just why guests like i don't know is it going to be you know ricky rubio or somebody like that. I don't know the trade that has to happen as john. Wolford kyrie irving. Oh my god. I just that would reverse the trend of the players getting worse. Every time i think i would like to be self indulgent here and this segment on a story that i don't know if you know this stephan. You definitely have not heard this one but if you do know stephan it's such a long time ago. Then maybe you've forgotten but in two thousand and ten. I did a freelance piece for men's health about john wall which is like one of the few freelance sports things i've i've ever done also like one of the only times i've ever done a piece where i hung out with a star athlete and wrote about it which was just a very weird experience like we went to some fancy hotel. I think it was like the as hotel in new york. And i had breakfast with him and like his. You know team was was at a table like a few tables over. Where did he was like a young. Would we have to eat. I do not remember. But let's say a pancakes Eggs and pancakes. It's not the lead of the story. Which i just called up and i'm wanted that it is a chef salad scott. Please read from that. I'm sure it's bad. And i'd be embarrassed but like young guy number one..

"John wall superstar former number-one pick. Who's one of the fastest if not the fastest guy ever with a basketball in his hands. He's coming off a year in which he averaged twenty three point. One points and ten point seven assists per game and russell westbrook. He just had one of the best years ever pro basketball. Thirty one point six points. Ten point seven boards ten point four assists yet. The dude averaged a triple double this trade wall for westbrook straight up. You know with the draft pick thrown in. It's not arguably the biggest in nba history. It is the biggest full stop. Books will be written about it. Please staged operas sung sports television network programmed from now until the sun explodes. And that is. I would have described. John wall for russell westbrook three years ago. When while had just lead the wizards to the eastern conference semis westbrook and won the mvp award for the oklahoma city. Thunder we're also young then and so were they three years younger to be precise now while thirty and headed to the houston rockets. Well hope to come back after missing a season half did a heel surgery and then a ruptured achilles. Westbrook is thirty. Two with the wizards his thirteen and three years after his partnership with james harden flamed out in houston joel trade for me as a reminder of how immortals can become mortal very quickly in sports and for a lot of nba fans and writers wall in westbrook are no longer even talked about as players. They're quote unquote bad contracts. The need to be offloaded so their teams can have a chance to compete again and now Jets can get the number one. Pick in the draft wit. I'm still in the last segment but your thoughts. Yeah i mean there's a piece of this that affects the teams that we can talk about a minute. But you know one thing. That's been really interesting. That i thought about is this has happened is how like nba stars. Can't really enjoy earning the supermax salary anymore. If you're not if you're if you're if you're not lebron if you're not anthony davis if you're not one of those top five six seven guys then the minute you signed that contract you become an albatross and people started referring to you in terms of the money a team os you rather than like the actual value that you bring anyone team right. You know just thirty for thirty five billion dollars a year. It's just not as fun as it used to be. A major bummer. I'm a. I'm when when iron thirty five million i'll say it is that You know john has done. More for dc. Any senator ever has shot up to my pesco. I'm like no but yet so. Yeah i think that's kinda the thing. Is that once once. These guys sign these contracts. If you're not lebron if you're not steph curry it becomes an anchor around the team and so you're looking at a situation where you know the moment the john wall sign a contract moment russell. Westbrook signed a contract within a year. It's like oh man. Those are bad contracts. And we've got to be able to do something with them. We're going to have to move him. And so you end up in a situation. Where the rockets ship. Russell westbrook to the wizards and the wizards ship john wall and nobody and everybody thinks it's sad. These are still too good basketball players. But we're weighing it against the money they made when they tallied those numbers. That you you know you mentioned in the intro josh. As opposed like with those guys might be able to bring. They'll still probably be good basketball players like nobody thinks that russell westbrook are john wall basketball players but the way we look at it as oh man those guys are hugely overplayed and they'll never be able to justify the value of that seconds per dollar. Yeah not great except that with these two players in particular. They're really different arcs. We wouldn't be saying this about john wall. If he hadn't torn his achilles tendon and hurt his heel would probably would still be saying about russell westbrook because he's been on three teams in three years and they've always been questions about whether he elevates the overall quality of team or whether he is on the court an albatross despite his numbers despite the fact that some of his teams have done really well despite the fact that some of his wingmen have also performed really well on the court. So there are two different storylines around max contracts and what happens to players when they get to age thirty with or without injuries. The other thing about wall and westbrook. That's kind of nuts to think about. Is there two of the most amazing players in terms of speed athleticism and getting their teammates involved like averaging more than tennessee's per game lake there the total package and terms of what you would want on your team from an array of skills combined with being entertaining. Box office draws their great. You know individual with individual highlights couple of earliest motherfuckers. You'll ever you know. Want to see play to right like they snarl as they play basically good snarls as well and just i guess the bigger issue that i keep circling back to enjoy. You're circling this. A bit as well is just the kind of Even if you're not sad for them because they're making lots of money but just the unfairness of the way that a jiang works and in sports and how players who are so remarkably skilled and give us like so much like amazement as we watch them can be talked about as if their garbage just within a couple of years when they're past their prime ends. You noted joel. Even when they're not past their prime not necessarily past their prime. But that's the thing here isn't it. Were the assessment of this. Trade is less about ability than it is about some other characteristics of these individual play. But it's been how we're all general managers now. Yeah and it's you know in walls case. It's about injuries. And we don't know what he's gonna look like when he comes back and he's been superseded by bradley beal as the focus of of the team in washington and in westbrook's case it's about well he sulks and doesn't really complemented led the teams that he's been on in recent years to great heights in the conference that is stacked in a playoff run that was going to be impossible matter who he was surrounded with unless he was on you know the warriors during their peak years so westberg actually had a pretty good season last year for a thirty two year old. I mean again small sample size short your average twenty seven points. He had eight rebounds seven assists he shot better from the field than he ever has in his career and yet we've diminished them because of the uncertainty in walls case about how he will rebound from his injuries and in westbrook's case because of advanced analytics and the perception that he's not worth it. The advanced analytic of being the worst shooter in basketball terrible defender. And i think the thing about west because that people are reading a lot into how badly he in the bubble which i mean does demand some contexts because a lot of people he was coming off of an extended absence but he also hit contracted covid and we still don't know we still don't have a way to sort of like holding our heads that hey man..

"Would you as the best and most marketable talent in the sport want. You obviously wouldn't choose to go to the jets. You would be forced to go there because they draft you. But he doesn't have to go there if he doesn't want to. I guess you could be. If you're trevor lawrence you could say well. I'm me and i've went everywhere i've gone and that's new york and if i win in new york if i went for the jets that i will be a beloved figure in the game for forever you know that. That's one way of looking at it. But i also don't think is a quarterback for a great quarterback. You're going to be great no matter what. And you're going to get the attention and the accolades no matter where you play for the most part and it's never been a bad thing for any quarterback to refuse to go somewhere you know it worked for manning. It worked for john elway. I can't think of a time in which this has backfired. Where guys like you guys. Suck so much that i just can't. I can't risk my career. You know san on on how bad you are. So if i were trevor lawrence i don't you know he doesn't have to go back. Play for free it clemson for another year. He can just say you know what you can do. Whatever the hell you want. But i'm not going to be playing for you so you can just sell ads on instagram. That's that's right. His name. Name image and likeness. Well like jim. Kelly is a as an example. I didn't remember until i was just doing research for this very discussion. Which has he refused to play for. The bills went the usfl than the us we play for. He fell by the way. This houston gamblers. That's right that's right. Go ahead on then when the gamblers. He's he's like all right. I'll go to buffalo now so he could always just do that. He preventing them for playing flying for the jets years online. Stephan when when we were talking about the risks here. We didn't mention the most recent number one pack joe burrow went to the bengals and they're like ask offensive line and he now as a screwed up knee. Now i mean that's that's a football thing but if you're offensive line side with getting david david caving david carr but not for joe burrow. Okay right but he'd also been sacked nine million times. The optimists view is that the jets fired general manager. They fire the head coach. Everything is starting fresh. And trevor's lauren lawrence's agents says. Let's take the money and go there and take over new york and make them into a good team and five years. Trevor lawrence as agent gets named the general manager could help to and i felt he. The nfl is structured for teams to turn things around quickly. The jets have been incapable of doing that. Of course so if you're feeling optimistic and that i am going to be a hall of fame quarterback i can do this then. Maybe you say this is a challenge. I'm willing to accept. That's pretty naive. What you like. Baker with cleveland baker. Like right now. He wanted to go to cleveland. And yeah i was going to say the last two teams ago winless two thousand. Lions made the playoffs in two thousand eleven. Two thousand seventeen browns are going to make it. Looks like they're gonna make the playoffs in two thousand twenty so that's not a long time jets. Twenty twenty three. Yeah meme it could happen. You know i mean you know. Shot up the ken. O'brien and in freeman mcneil. You know the jets fans overdo all right. I'm just seeing this from adam schefter. I don't know if you guys have seen this. So we're recording authentic i Reactions for to some jets news per adam schefter jones stephan jets fired dc. Greg williams purse man. So apparently they weren't happy with the with zero blitz right. I mean you can't have that guy back in that locker room after that. So good riddance greg. Winds she'll be him back in the locker room. Dissension want the team to come together and bond over this rational decision making early. This decision was made after. They heard what rex ryan said earlier on monday. Dumbest call i've ever seen in around the thing for fifty eight years. You're going to die diver. And i've i've never done anything. This is somebody who's dumb over time and place converse zero that's it. It's just stupid. Pretty much sums it up. Rex ryan good job. Electric cars may seem a little different but new technology always seems weird at first. Even podcast seemed weird when they first came out in early two thousands. "You said that you want to catch them. We're going to surprise them with our surprise planes. His ryan greg williams. The smartest play in the situation is the sit everybody back and bat the ball down in the end zone. That has the highest chances of success. For all of this for all of this this blitz he called and going after the quarterback nobody registered pressure on that play. Like that's the that's the embarrassment you did all of this. You didn't even. You didn't even ruffled their cars feathers. He got a chance to get the ball off. Clean out the other. The other embarrassing part was that they had one guy sort of sit in the middle of the field. Keep an eye on. Derek aren't spy. Derek carr was going to run sixty yards to the end zone. So you mentioned adam gays. He came over from the dolphins with the reputation of being an entirely undeserved reputation. Being some quarterback guru and then ryan tannehill became like a really great. Nfl player who got a massive contract immediately after leaving adam gates and going to tennessee. And now here the entire reason that you have gas com franchises. Because you have this promising young quarterback in sam darnold these twenty-three comes out of has all the talent in the world. We're told an allegation seven and twenty and he said in the sixty four thousand dollar pyramid category of things coach says right before he's fired. I came here to help him help him develop his career. And we haven't been able to do that so now. This is another thing that you never hear. people say. The jets are like leading the league in this category. Like a coach who presumably wants to be employed. And because it's the nfl and he's white probably will be employed again like five minutes from now. But he's a quarterback guru saying. I took a really talented quarterback. Now she's worse like that seems like a pretty startling if accurate admission. Yeah i mean. That's the really disappointing thing because it sort of highlights the idea that when you get drafted into the nfl this situation you drafted into can determine the course of your career. The arc of your career is much as like your actual talent right and you could. Just look at sam. Darnold and say oh. That guy's never had a fighting chance like we don't actually know how good he is because they've not surrounded him with enough talent. They've not surrounded him. With a schematic advantage you know to use the parlance of the deer. Charlie weis so yeah so i mean that's i my hope for sam darnold is that he gets to start over somewhere else that he gets the you know. I guess the teddy bridgewater reboot that he gets to go back up somewhere for year behind. You know an experienced veteran and then get a chance to start under a smarter better coach in a better run franchise because they really you know. They've really ruined. And i had a chance to see that. When i covered the houston texans. Many years ago when they had a david carr it was the same deal. They just got him. Beat up they. Didn't you know they did not protect him. They did not give him enough talent. Although they did have andre johnson. Which you know. that's you know. That's that's talent right but they didn't give him what he needed to succeed in. We'll never actually know if he was any good. And my hope for sam darnold visit. He gets out and trevor lawrence never has to play down for adam gates which i mean. That's not to happen and this is one of the counter arguments and criticisms of tanking in the nfl too. If you've got some unlike sam darnold whom you want to develop and you are either deliberately or sort of on the sly rolling out an inferior product and hopes of getting a number one graphic while you're squelching development and you're putting players at risk and that was the case with car and houston. That was the case with tim. Couch in cleveland when they were awful and he got beat up and sack constantly and never developed. And there've been other examples of that in the nfl. Two points out the differences. I think in tanking in the nfl versus tanking in say the nba. Tanking has gotten a sort of if not a terrible reputation. It's sort of desirable in some corners. You know the sam hinkie glorification and the astros the cubs but it doesn't work quite the same way in the. Nfl is a bunch of writers have analyzed in the last few years mckay becton the right tackle for the jets. Rookie was apparently put into a game in week. Four when he was injured and got more injured. And so there. There's even precedent for players being endanger on the two thousand and twenty jets team. It's not just a notional. That's their most recent first round draft pick man. That's an institutional problem where you're not protecting your assets. You know what i mean. That's like if you're trevor lawrence and you're looking at that you like why would i want. I can get rid of the coaches or whatever but that same institutional framework is still there. Why would i want to go play for them. And this is a team that is so incompetently. Run and the leadership at the top is so misguided that it lends itself to conspiracy theories go barnwell wrote much earlier in the season that the best thing for the organization might be to keep adam gates around through the end of the year given that the overmatched coach hasn't come close to winning a football game this season and it's hard to think of another reason why you would have had gas around if not like lead the march into the the cellar and into the number one spot in the nfl draft but like this is a front office that gave an enormous contract levy on bell the running back and then released and got nothing in return. They did the same thing with tremaine johnson defensive player the owner of the team. What he johnson is ben trump's ambassador to britain and he's off they're doing out. Whatever one does is donald trump's ambassador to britain. And so you have coaches general manager ownership that either seems checked out or really clearly not just bad at their worst at their jobs in the entire league. And so that i feel like as the transition to if you're trevor lawrence and you're looking at this do you refuse to go play for this team if they draft. You doesn't trevor lawrence. Have the option of going back to clemson for one more year. Yeah he can. He's a junior. And i mean also eligibility every player and nca free eligibility so even even if he was a senior he could go back and that would be the ultimate jets outcome. Wouldn't it for them to go and sixteen and then lawrence to take one. Look at this and go. i think i'll Go play alabama one more time. What what they deserve isn't it. Yeah it's completely what. They deserve their an embarrassment..

A team had used that alignment after the game. Derek carr said. I couldn't believe they all out blitzed us. I was thankful in the long run jets. Fans may be thankful to gangrene as owen twelve and on a glide path to sixteen and the number one draft pick presumably clemson quarterback trevor lawrence before we talk about whether the jets are tanking for trevor. Let's discuss their spectacular hilarity josh. It is rare to see a single play that so perfectly encapsulates teams futility. and perhaps. it's history as this one. Young agree with you though. It seems impossible to aggregate the play from the jets. Larger tx project here and the conspiracy theories about how they're trying to lose and trying to get the number one pack and trying to get trevor lawrence because ultimately for the franchise for jets fans. It was better for this to have happened then for not to have happened. The whole thing makes so little sense because the jets made a big comeback to be in position to blow the lead in the end and yet there's no logical reason why you would have done what the jets in their coordinator. Greg williams dead on that last play. You laid out the history steph. Fifteen years two hundred fifty to pass plays where no team has ever thought that this was a good idea to send everyone and leave. Henry ruggs with his four point. Two seven joel anderson ten-year-old ask speed one on one with an undrafted rookie. I mean. it is like ludicrous. But that's what they did so what we're left with is to think either. This is the dumbest thing that any team has ever done. Which jets so. That's in the realm of possibility. Or they're like so clever in terms of how they're trying to lose these games that they were actually trying to win it until the last five seconds jal which of these explanations makes sense to you on the i. I can't imagine. Can i also say but before you start like one of the jets safeties mukai. Marcus maye called out greg. Williams after the game was that was a bad play call and so it wasn't like the is on the team or like you don't you don't usually hear dat from a player calling coach the immediate aftermath of the game right so i mean we know that greg williams is the one that makes us blitz call so it's not a surprise that it was stupid right and you know that as the saints you know there's saints fan. Josh bountygate of bountygate fame greg williams of kill the hat in the body will die fame. Isn't it also the great williams. Also one in fifteen as a head coach as well one year bills head coach and did not have a very impressive record he went. I think three and thirteen was his worst ever. But he's a very good and long run of successes a defensive coordinator in the nfl dating back to his days with the houston oilers. See that has been around for a long time. Football changed a lot since the houston around. Ed maybe that's sort of a testament to how long you've been in the game. And i understand what grade williams is trying to do there that you don't wanna guide to just sit back there you know. Pick around and you want to rush him. You want rush derek carr. Who's not great it handling pressure and make him make a bad decision to get rid of the ball ahead of time. But i mean you had as you mentioned undrafted rookie corner who ran a four five eight at the combine against the guy. Who was the fastest dude at the combine this past year. It's just like i mean marcus. Maye is right man. You don't often hear coach player. Say this explicitly. But it's really on greg williams man like you can't put guys in that position and i. I don't think so to answer your question john. I don't think that they did that intentionally. Because there has to be a more dignified way of losing than that greg williams and adam gates. The head coach are going to get fired lake. They don't have any reason to want to be part of this tanking project and the players like the way the tanking works like players are trying their hardest and it's just like the front office or whoever puts a product out on the field. That isn't going to succeed but the players aren't trying to loose right. Yeah you put out a product when you're trying to thank you. Put out an undrafted free agent rookie corner who runs a four point. Five right like and you've got a fifth round pick opposite that guy starting there and then and then in the secondary the only guy with more than nine games of experience is that safety. That called out. You know greg williams. So that's how you tank. You just have not enough talent and hewlett that overwhelm you. You wouldn't like put something like that on tape and have people actually football intelligence it. Which is what greg williams adam gates did and i mean yeah. It looks stupid. It looks so stupid that you would think it was intentional. But it was. I mean i have to believe that that was unintentional that they did not want that to happen that they do not expect that to happen right. Because it's all predicated tanking in the. Nfl is predicated on believing a system. Wide conspiracy theory tanking on individual plays. It's predicated on believing that coaches wanna lose and that players are instructed to lose a manual show the former linebacker in the nfl at a twitter video where he was laughing watching last play and says the jets were directed to lose this game. And there's no other explanation. Yeah don't buy that at all. I mean greg. Williams wants to continue to be employed in some capacity and professional football. And those jets. Defenders wanna have jobs going forward to. They don't want to be part of this because they're not going to be part of the rebuild a lot of these guys. There's no incentive for them to lose on purpose so this to me was just an arrogant coach saying fuck it. We're going to do this. This is going to work. We're going to surprise them. And this is the like just throwing the cards in the air and hoping that three a says land heads up on the floor. I mean on the one hand. That's true like this was the like most leroy jenkins momentum and fell history but on the other hand. It's like what greg williams does every time and so it's not like it was even that unpredictable. And greg williams is known for recklessness and arrogance in your playbook this makes sense. It's like him him being himself and again i would say this and i mean it was stupid like like. There's a reason that defenses. Don't do this in the nfl but the idea that he did something that was so unorthodox so out of the box. I can understand saying maybe this will catch them off guard you know. Maybe maybe maybe they won't be expecting getting maybe he'll throw the ball away. Maybe we'll get to the quarterback but that's the thing it was unorthodox in like the direction of manliness. Everybody because we're so tough right you can see. There's a conceit joel that this is going to surprise them..

Unofficially calling it and yeah melissa. Who is our great producer for this podcast putting it together right now. You all have talked me through talking under a blanket and moving into a studio and there's been a lot of work over the last few months. But i think it'll be really cool. Jets Let Raiders, and a First Win, Slip By
"Yes. The raiders needed a miracle to keep their season from circling the drain. They got it. In the form of a derek carr forty six yard touchdown pass to henry. Ruggs seconds to play the difference in a thirty one to twenty eight win over the aforementioned new york jets at the jersey meadowlands the play. And you heard it and everybody was twitter. Middle school was going crazy about the jets. Tanking the jets are not tanking a jets play to really hard In this game and they essentially after scoring Ten unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Ripois for a win They got a fourth down. Stop late in the fourth quarter Oakland had to Get a and out. Stop from the jets which they got jets punted away and essentially all the just need to do is keep a say oakland. A bunch of times vegas From beating him with a deep

Did Adam Gase Get Caught Lying About Taking Over Control of New York Jets’ Play-Calling?
"Gaze trying to get fired? We're at that point in the season because his pathetic lying was caught during yesterday's press conference. He insisted he no longer calls the plays that the O. C does. But when pressed, admitted that he does get fed the first replace Then he apparently has veto power and then, when pressed more admitted that he took over the play calling duties when they were in a hurry up on Sunday. The reporters know that when the O C was shown on the sidelines, he had no place sheet and looked like he was waiting for a bus. The question is at 11 and sure to be fired. Why also live? These

"Only quarterback was thrown for three hundred yards in three games. This season you know I, think sneaky Hembo was trying to sneak me again. I would think that Prescott but I think that's too obvious. I'M GONNA, go with Josh Allen. You're going to go to the right place Josh Allen is the right answer the optimal. Throwers sneak sneak Josh. Allen has thrown for three hundred yards in all three of his games Mahomes, Russell Wilson Dak. Justin Herbert and Joe Borough I've done it twice. So that's the way. Some of these guys are trending. Let's talk about where people are trending right now robbing inch. Let's start with Josh Allen What has impressed you post about him so. I have to say just overall arm strength and his ability to get the ball down the field. It doesn't matter if he's stepping into the throat or if there's somebody around his grabbing his legs, he's still can throw the ball six yards downfield and then on top of that I don't think I've ever seen a starting quarterback in the NFL. Actually stiff arm. A linebacker to the ground like running back or even get a flag for stiff arming somebody. So violently so he's definitely the strongest quarterback in the League born. The direction in which drew brees is trending has a lot of people concern. What do you think? Well, it's drew brees right now doesn't have the old terminator right now he's lost a lot of speed off his fastball. He's out here like Ra, dickey with the curve ball and the knuckleball and is not enough to to really move the defense. He doesn't have the receivers that's able to separate. So he's really missing Michael Tom's without that he's having with its windows and he's not being able to get that done green. We'll see if he's able to get Tom back this week finally are see trending in the wrong direction, the cowboys defense why are they so bad? The Dallas Cowboys defensive roster is the exact opposite of its offenses. There are no stars there. They aren't people stepping up and making plays looking demarcus. Lawrence, he's not worth the money being outplayed by Alden Smith you have injuries in the linebacking corps and this young secondary gist isn't making plays whether it's Trayvon digs whether it's a woozy being heard or these safeties debt. We don't even know they had to get some playmakers and they had to start bawling on you see the number on your screen, the cowboys defenses allowing over thirty two points a game this year twenty ninth and thirty two team League. Teams below them including the jets have combined record of all and ten. So.

"Much of them with The other key is Tobias Harris who have invested a ton of money and in Philly he had his best NBA season with Doc rivers in a year ago before he was traded to. Philly. That's a big part of it too but I think docs stature was important to that philly organization an overarching figure in the league in the city of Philadelphia you know those are big components why they wanted him as. Their head coach, he got a lot of options I would assume a up to and including not coaching looking at a lot of other different possibilities. Why to your knowledge? Did he decide this of all the different options was the best one for him? Well, the Star Power with embiid and Ben Simmons you have to you know whether it's top ten top twelve, thirteen players in the league some other very good players. A big market in Philadelphia and ownership group that has shown its willing to spend. They may have the biggest payroll in the league next year. And listen those were all components for Doc rivers that. Got Him right back in and got him on a plane from La to Philly really within twenty four hours of of losing his job there I. Think when you're on my radio show the other day we were talking about tie Lou Lou had been in the Mix Philadelphia. Now does it appear he will get docs job with the clippers is does that feel like it's about to happen? It is not about to happen. They're going to do a search in L. A. St Bomber hasn't done one as owner there he would like to do a search you would like to go out and talk to candidates but Tai Lou is in a strong position there he is well. Regarded within that organization but he's also got other interviews I'm going to meet with New Orleans Soon Houston wants to talk to him and so tied Lou I, think one way or another has a very good chance of being back in the League as a head coach next year, and there's a significant chance that could be with the clippers aren't with the very latest as always we'll have more hoops as we continue looking ahead to the finals tonight meanwhile, speaking.

Can't wait to hear what he has to say naked rich and Ryan Clark standing. We begin with the game of the night because we have no choice our RC Nicovic burn your is it is Sam Darnold the jets taking on the broncos beat Oh and three Adam Gates. Trying to figure out where it all went wrong. I drive of the game third and seven Sam Darnold Back Sam Darnold in trouble Sam Darnold on the run. He's breaking ankles Scott. He's got it with the to L. too little toad tap drag right there. But he takes it all the way to pay dirt thinking surprising suffering Sam darnold surprising everybody Lebron Jade's Love forty-six yard touchdown for darnold. Long jets quarterback run ever Patrick Mahomes he was impressed. So the jets off to a decent now they're going up against Red Ribbon March Matthew making his first career start second quarter is going to. Throw. It up and Jerry. Judy is GONNA come down with a jump ball for a touchdown. He Got Moss check check here this year it was a tough night for him up and down try to cold and so with a right here just he wanted the more, you got high point the ball he plays corner reason grinning peer desio would get up sideline earful broncos tickets ten, seventy fourth quarter. We go third and ten for the broncos up by eight rippin back to throw and this time this year's got revenge any taking him in the end zone Zeus excuse me ripping I. GotTa reservation for six in the end zone jets unsuccessful on the two point conversion. So they're down to on the pick six after duelling field goals fourth and three hundred fifty. Here's your ballgame for the jets right before the two minute warning and get sacked because of course, they do Radley job with the sack. Of Donald. He was sacked six times. Total broncos take over on downs very next play Melvin Gordon say good night going all the way. Well, you know you talk about you lose your chance to digest sold all out in Mel Gordon a great way to end the game. Well, it didn't actually end the game because there was still this to happen with eight seconds left the Broncos for reasons known only to them are lining up in shotgun fourth thousand thirteen they just need the clock to expire but instead that happened the jets go upstairs Steve mcclendon with a shot to the helmet and as a consequence after eleven penalties for one hundred, eighteen yards for the Jetta Vic Fangio just tells us guys just get off the field because there's going to be a role because the jets are not only bad the dirty and the broncos were the win thirty, seven, twenty, eight. "And again that it's okay if this organization has given me something to defend. Right I will defend them if somebody is like. How do you quit a team? So I went into effect with the Bengals I was like it was. One you have to decide a breaking point mine. Was the steelers lost after they lost. That game is like it's not. It's. This don't happen to good team. It's GonNa Happen to anybody. As a yet to get, you have to pick a date to get out. If you talk yourself into the draft you'll be. You'll be like all seventy guys might be hall of famers. Every the guy, slipped. To two hundred and forty seven. If he can earn out a couple wrinkles. I think. He's Dion Sanders. Free Agency. As a year to decide, is this worth defending? The bingles work defending now. If. You've got a team like okay like. I-. Packers fans. Pakistan's mad about Jordan Love I. Get it because for the most part. They've given you a good product that you can root for. So even then now it's like okay. If you can trust the franchise, entrust the franchise you might not agree with. The franchise's, but it was like the jets there now we should just get those premium picked. You don't pay him that. And just let them start the cycle over with much worse players like. That's how you make this team. Better getting premium picks for. Premium picks everyone knows. Yeah maybe you get a guy like Jamal Adams? Thirty two every year. New York jets. You can put them in ten. Also like there's a lot of that. It's like a safety is replaceable. I don't know if I. I guess I haven't seen the proof of that yet like I. Get running back. I get even some linebacker right like Moseley's good I wouldn't pay them net my like leap this by highest. Team money..

"But brianna Taylor's death is. Doesn't get one one millionth the coverage George Floyd's does and I mean that's the problem again. And again that's not a part of the problem that he caused right. It is still part of it for share. It was one of these one has video. One does not ran in. One was sleeping in their bid one. Wasn't so you know I? It just happened that their body cams weren't on. So that's where it's like I. Think it's like whatever reason you go back to like why he may not have said them. I. Think it's valid because it's like what they've been saying. We're overlooked. I don't think there's no reason why the cowboys don't win that game really no way they should lose it unless lack of preparation lack of execution playing bad on offense races the game I mean it's got to be on those performance and that could directly comes back to the coach man that's what I'm saying I think we all agreed the on this year that Jason Garrett needs to win the NFC championship or at least get in that game to save his job and that's a fair assessment I agree and I mean you know speaking but I think if the cowboys lost to the jets it would be something that could one hundred percent be blamed on coaching because this this cowboys team is far more talented than this jets team so you would really have to be unprepared and unable to handle a situation to lose to them but you mentioned it would kind of take Levy on all or same donald going off or whatever does does the fact that the cowboys are now playing one of the that's running backs in the NFL in Lebanon Bell the week after they surrendered four rushing touchdown stare and Jones does that I mean I feel the answer's yes but that make you nervous or or do you think that Aaron Johns performance was this aberration by the cowboys defense it doesn't make me nervous because they had the other end at Aaron Rodgers I ryan and Rogers is more you're more petrified of Aaron Rodgers in were Aaron Jones go into that game and they'd the jets don't have that at that guy they got stand arnold again is coming off of the mononucleosis and he's playing this week so I you know that's it's a two fold thing thank you know for the cowboys is like playing against Aaron Rodgers we know he could isis up we know he can improvise aac place I mean he's made a living he said onto against them so I don't think you come in and like okay well we're GONNA have the same respect for Sam Donaldson we don't I don't have any respect for Sam Don Oh and that's just the way it is because he hasn't earned it right Cheryl leaving on bill if you look again a statistics like dead hasn't rushing their offense line is not that good and yeah they're gonNA play up they'll play hard but that's the only way that the cowboys loses the if all of a sudden lead me on bell Russia's like he did when he was with the steelers and I just don't see that happen I think the cowboys are really good when when they're good and I think it's a game really sets up more because the offense align is not struggles so that's the that's that's the the difference between the packers the jets yeah I agree I mean Aaron Jones is is in a large way only able to go off because of the threat of Aaron address that doesn't exist but he's a great mayor Jones is he's a tremendous running back I mean I think you know the cowboys are probably the only team he's GonNA end up in that too how it would make I think you'll make me a lot of people feel better if Aaron Jones had four rushing touchdowns on Monday night against the lines that would be nice but AH I don't I don't think I don't happen this soon but maybe it will sometime in the near future but okay so assuming the cowboys win because this is you know they should win that will set up I don't WanNa look too far ahead but that will set up I mean just a gigantic game next Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles and you know a lot of happen between now and then and I know obviously we're here to talk about the cowboys but the eagles visit Nisa Vikings on Sunday and that's a big game I raced race I mean that that's a big game because I mean let's it's just kinda play with this I mean both the cowboys eagles are three into ripe and obviously we think the cowboys are getting to foreign to quite easily This Sunday against the jets and they've got the eagles and then they're on a by but the eagles in while it's kind of I feel like underrated what the eagles have to go through now I think people are kind of eagles a team like the national media will jump on and sort of La La and I'm not trying to not a good team but so there are three into the next run for the eagles at three two at Minnesota this week at Dallas next week at buffalo the following week and that's not not a cake walk by any means and they get the bears at home which is another tough defense then they're on a buy and then coming out of there by they get new England and Seattle at home that is a really really really difficult Stretcher Games and the cowboys you know they don't have you know cupcakes and they're either but I guess my question is do you think the Eagle is our foreign two or three and three visiting the cowboys next week what happens with them against the Vikings I think it's going to be tremendous matchup again you mentioned the defense and Minnesota that they when it comes to defense that's their forte and the eagles they gotta play Makers Carson Wentz I think that he is the the dudes baller I've seen some enough games this year that the guy can flat out play and they're really good on defense they got we mentioned the jets ten times I mean I mean that's just phenomenal Fleischer clocks and yeah more than the jets being bad I mean that they eagles are a very good oh yeah yes you gotta give him credit for that I mean that just doesn't happen just because you know the guy in front them this lays down Kansakar quarterback there's a lot to be said for that in the way that they're able to just be relevant and I got a tremendous coach in so my point is is at the it's a great match because I thank the eagles will be able to do some things medicine offensively now and I don't think when you when you look at Kirk cousins what he history will I don't really believe in it presence so if you're asking me what I think the record is going to be I think they'll be for two when they play the cowboys 'cause I think they're winning they beat Minnesota wow okay well that doesn't have to four to hopefully odd man or two teams I will ask to your point you can ask a better match up Sunday night football that's crazy atmosphere NBC and really everybody is is routing for the eagles because I think again the whole world knows the cops would be in the jets but NBC because that's Sunday night football is and every talk show in America is rooting for the eagles this week to give them the the showdown of you know the year so far that would be the biggest game of the year so far forty two against four hundred vehicles would be a little bit stressful so but about this like about if the cowboys the they're not gonNA lose they don't lose I mean I'm not gonna say never write this link of the fact that even if the cowboys hypothetically were three and three and they weren't playing jets or lane the Patriots this weekend and I went three and three airplane afford to eagles no sudden it's huge game for the cowboys because they're paying three therefore too so I don't think the way Rj it's going to be a huge implicated game because value get the you know you get six weeks into the season now it's like okay we can still afford to lose a couple of games couple here a couple of games there but now you start adding up all the the likely teams that you can be in now becomes more important so I think it's going to be a huge huge watch game especially when it's Dallas and then when it's in the NFC east opponents I I want to get to something about net flex in a second but before I do we need to make our predictions for this game because I think again that they have some pretty good players on defense and you look at you know the CJ the MOSELEYS and one they've got adults yeah and then you look at the front the front four we my Mensa Quinton Williams in into some of the Leonard Williams they got some able guys up front they can play but I'm GonNa go with defense I mean this is a game where you try to you get back some of your credibility get back some of your often it's because you got your ass kick last week against the packers we can all agree on that right RJ right yeah I agree so if you're if you're the the offense I think this is a game they're not gonNA get ten sacks but they they hold lady on bill this is a this is one of those juggernaut games their offense align is not that good sixty yards because I really had been using this game go on his yards per carry should be at least two point oh every time he gets the ball he gets two yards so invest my bold prediction I think tank rebounds in a limit his carries to almost in between to the three point zero yards moving scale okay I like that a lot mine is something that's not necessarily it won't sound optimistic but it's something that really without forcing a single turnover because I mean it's it's been it's more than like oh they haven't forced to turn over in five games like this goes back attacking the guys and really kind of getting a beat in anticipation may not the things in it's really.
