Evangelism on SermonAudio
A highlight from God's Plan for World Evangelism (Part 1)
"Mark chapter 16 in your Bibles. Mark chapter 16, last chapter in the book, I believe. Mark chapter 16. God's plan for world evangelization. And I'm happy to say here this morning that he does have a plan. No FNS or buts about it. For world evangelization. God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. So loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. Okay? Let me ask the question, why is Trinity Baptist Church here? I could say a lot of negative things and then I would think of some more. Trinity Baptist Church here is not here just to make a name for itself, even though I might say that it has. It's not here to entertain people. It's here to carry out a tremendous commission that God has given us that we're going to read about here in just a moment. But it's tremendous and great responsibility that the Lord has given to us. It says it all right here in these verses I'm going to read this morning. Here in Mark 16, we're going to start reading in verse 15. And he said unto them, his disciples, who was following him, go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. And he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe. In my name they shall cast out devils. They shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up servants or serpents. And if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. They shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. Would you bow with me in prayer? Heavenly Father, we thank you this morning for this opportunity just to stand here and open this precious book called the Bible, the Word of God. Lord, we thank you for this month already. Here it is, the first day, first Sunday, Lord, that we now have entered into our missions month. Father, I will first of all want to thank you for how you have used the Trinity Baptist Church down through the years in the area of missions. That's been made possible because of faithful people that have followed your leadership, your guidance, and have been obedient to doing their part in making this ministry what it is, and of course I believe it's going to grow. The sun never sets on the ministry of this church. We're so thankful we gave you all the honor, the glory, and the praise for it. And then Father, as Brother Shelton said, we do thank you for those visiting today. We thank you for every person that's here today. We pray for that person who may be here today, who's never trusted Christ. May this be that special day in their lives when they repent of sin and give their hearts to Christ. And then I'll pray, Lord, for the encouragement and strength of your people. And Lord, I think I said it, but I want to repeat myself, and I'm thankful that the church appreciates their pastor, but not any more than I appreciate every one of them. Thank you, God, for them and their faithfulness in doing what they're doing to make this church what the Bible says it ought to be, and even carrying out and doing what our passage reads we have read here this morning.

Awards Chatter
A highlight from Tim Burton - 'Wednesday' [LIVE]
"Hi everyone and thank you for tuning in to the 507th episode of the Hollywood Reporters Awards Chatter Podcast. I'm the host Scott Feinberg and my guest today is a filmmaker unlike any other. With directing credits dating back some 40 years including 1985's Pee Wee's Big Adventure, 1988's Beetlejuice, 1989's Batman, 1990's Edward Scissorhands, 1994's Ed Wood, 2003's Big Fish, 2005's Corpse Bride, 2007's Sweeney Todd, 2012's Frankenweenie, 2014's Big Eyes, and most recently in 2022, half of the eight episodes that comprise the first season of Netflix's giant hit drama series, Wednesday, for which he is personally nominated for two Emmys, Best Directing for a Comedy Series, and as one of the show's executive producers, Best Comedy Series. The New York Times has called him a visionary artist, noting, quote, he has developed a singular if not easily pinned down sensibility. His style is strongly visual, darkly comic, and morbidly fixated, but it is rooted just as much in his affection for monsters and misfits, which in his movies often turn out to be the same thing. He all but invented the vocabulary of the modern superhero movie, brought new vitality to stop motion animation, and has come to be associated, for better or worse, with anything that is ghoulish or ghastly without being inaccessible. He may be the most widely embraced loner in contemporary cinema, close quote. His most frequent collaborator, Johnny Depp, who he has directed in 19 films, said that he is, quote, a filmmaker I admire, but he's much, much more than that. Without embarrassing him, he's a true artist, which is something I wasn't sure was possible in today's cinema. But he's the real thing. He's a visionary, an auteur, totally uncompromising, close quote. He's talking, of course, about Tim Burton. Over the course of a conversation in front of a large audience at the Burbank International Film Festival, including two of Burton's most celebrated and longtime collaborators, the composer Danny Elfman and the costume designer Colleen Atwood, the 65 -year -old and I discussed his complicated childhood and how it led him to pursue drawing and attracted him to characters regarded by others as freaks, how he wound up working at Disney Animation and then making his feature directorial debut with a live action film, the challenges of getting films made even with hits under his belt and what ultimately led him to TV for Wednesday, plus much more. And so, without further ado, let's go to that conversation. Hello, everyone, and Tim, thank you so much for doing this. Great to see you. I normally begin every episode of this podcast asking our guests where they were born and raised, which I think we have addressed, but I do want to get into it a little bit more because, you know, over the years, you have expressed that sort of what you just alluded to, that, you know, you were very shaped by Burbank. For better or worse, there were elements that were great, elements that were complicated. Can you talk about, but one thing that you've always said is that without Burbank and without those childhood experiences, the filmmaker we know today would not exist. So just break it down. Well, I mean, you know, I keep reading that I hate, you know, like the press has a way of sort of taking what you say and take out the nuance and subtlety and, you know, like go right to the core. But I think, you know, and when I said about whatever I said about Burbank, it had more to do with my own psychological state of mind than it did with the actual city of Burbank. You know what I mean? So and that's a bit too complicated and psychological to go into now, but in the sense that, you know, you grow up in feeling a certain way, Burbank helped shape me because, you know, there was like my first film school was the Cornell Theatre. There was this amazing theatre that was torn down, I think, in the late in the 80s. I don't know when it was, but, you know, they would for 50 cents, you could see a triple feature. Like, I saw one amazing, I saw War of the Gargantuas, Monster Zero and Destroy All Monsters in one go, you know, 50 cents. So that's where I learned my love of film and that really, so there was amazing places and it was incredible. There was like five movie theaters, Burbank at a certain time, and then they all got sort of taken away. But for me, that place, especially that theater was very, very special to me. And you've said that during your years in Burbank, which I think up until 12, you're living at, was it Evergreen Street? Is that where you were? Yeah, right down the street. Just down the street here. You can all walk over there after this. Yeah, we'll do a little. Check it out. Then you moved in with your grandmother also in Burbank, right? But as a bit of a loner, as a kid, you were kind of thinking about things, dreaming about things in everywhere from some of the cemeteries in town to... Yeah, the one right next door here, you know, I used to play around there, you know, that was, yeah. Yeah. You know, and I could look out my window, the thing that freaked me out, I looked out my window at Disney and this was like the weird, called the Bermuda Triangle of Burbank. Because I could see where I was born at St. Joseph's and then I could see the cemetery where everybody, all my family was buried. And I was, so it was like a weird Bermuda Triangle that I had to escape at a certain point because it was just too scary. Now, you've also said that as a kid, you were, you know, not only a bit of a loner, but sort of not particularly communicative, verbal with other people. You lived in your imagination, which manifested itself through drawing. Can we talk about how that entered the picture? And as was noted, I mean, to the extent that it was, you were talented enough that in Burbank, your work, anti -littering art was on the back of every garbage truck. I wanted $10, and at that time, that's probably like about a million now. Right, right, right. But drawing was an outlet for you. What kind of things were you drawing as a kid? Posters for trash trucks, I don't know, I mean, whatever. But also, I mean, the movies that you were drawn to, and I believe maybe therefore some of things the you were drawing were things that other people might find frightening or scary, but that you actually, in a way, related to, right? Like what are we talking about? Yeah, but I mean, like, you know, I didn't feel that different. It felt like, you know, I love famous monsters. I wait for that magazine to come out. I love monster movies. I live near a cemetery. You know, I mean, you use what you have, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it was good. Totally. And I think also, too, growing up in Southern California, where you don't really have seasons, I think that's why I kind of got into, you know, like things like Nightmare for Christmas or Halloween, just because it gave you a sense of occasion, a sense of season that you didn't get through the weather, you know, I mean, to experience, like holidays, you had to go like to the main, like, at Save On and look at the holiday displays to kind of experience.

Dateable Podcast
A highlight from #brunchtalk: Is lack of experience a turn off?
"Hi, I'm Yui Xu and I'm Julie Kraftchick. We're active daters turned dating sociologists here to dive into everything modern dating and relationships. Welcome to the datable podcast. Hello, datables. Is it time for brunchies? I'm going to use the word. Damn right it is. But only if you use the word brunch. That sounds so basic. Hey, you want to go to brunchies? Oh my God. Please don't start that. Brunchy talk. Well, we are back for another episode of Brunch Talk where we answer your burning dating questions, that is the goal of these episodes. They are weekly. They are on Sundays. They are shorter than our midweek podcasts episodes, but we answer your burning questions and we get them done. Question for this Brunch Talk is, is the lack of experience a turnoff when it comes to dating? Yes. And we want to thank this listener, Rahim, who submitted a wonderful review. In addition, five stars with the question that said for more context, I'm a 26 year old male who has limited dating and relationship history. I feel like relationship history and experience is very much relative. You could be 26 and have been in two relationships, but maybe two relationships where you learn nothing from them or you were only in one relationship where you learn a lot from it. I think the bigger picture question is what have you learned from dating that you can apply to relationships? Not so much the experience of relationships. So 26, you're a baby still. It's okay. I don't know why as a culture, we have this thing because we do hear this a lot of people being like, Oh, they don't have any past experience or I'm their first relationship, or they haven't had a lot of partners. There's something wrong with them. That's the feeling. I don't agree with that at all, but for whatever reason, we think that the quantity of our past partners are saying like how desirable we are. I would reframe it of what have you been doing for the last 26 years? Probably some of them, you were just being born and coming to your own. So like even what have you been doing for the last six years? It doesn't even have to be 26 years and just tell your story. It's okay if relationships haven't been a priority for you until now. I don't think 26, even if you're 36, 46, 56, whatever it is, there's never an age. Like we go through different stages of life. It's just, how do you share with someone of where you've been, where you want to go and why right now you're interested in dating and meeting new people? It's all about the narrative that you tell yourself and to other people. If you go into dates and you start with, I haven't had that much relationship experience, yeah, someone's going to corner you into that and think, Oh, okay. Maybe this person doesn't have much to offer. But if you go into dates saying, Oh, I haven't had that many long -term relationships, but I've learned a lot about relational skills, people, skills, learning about myself. I've been in therapy. I've done all the self work that shows experience in itself. And I think that's more valuable than the actual relationships. I've listened to this great podcast, dateable. It's really helped me out.

Tech Path Crypto
A highlight from 1273. Ethereum Built on Bitcoin | Spiderchain Layer-2 INTERVIEW w/Botanix Labs
"All right, so today we're going to dive into Bitcoin, but not in the normal and usual way. Actually, we're going to break into possibly an alternative for Bitcoin through an Ethereum EVM. We'll talk all about that today. You guys are going to love it. My name is Paul Veron. Welcome back into Tech Path. Joining me today is Willem Schrow, who's coming over from Botanics Labs. So, great to have you. Great to meet you all. Great to meet you, Paul. Hey, Willem. All right. So first, let's get into just in general what you guys are trying to do with Botanics. Give me kind of a breakdown. Yeah. So Botanics is actually a layer two on Bitcoin, but it is fully EVM equivalent. What that means is any of the applications that you see on Ethereum today are now possible on Botanics and are possible on Bitcoin. So with any of the applications, suddenly you will see Bitcoin instead of Ethereum. And so we bring the whole world of the EVM to Bitcoin and we bring the whole world and the capital of Bitcoin to the EVM. So why bring EVM to Bitcoin? What's the core behind it? What are you guys trying to solve in terms of just the overall technical aspect? Yeah, very good question. Well, it went back like a year where we tried to figure out where is this whole crypto infrastructure going to go to 10 years from now. And very interesting, we saw like a paradox play out. On the one hand, you have Bitcoin, which is the biggest market cap and still considered by many the one and real decentralized reserve currency. And on the other hand, you have Ethereum and the EVM with so many applications built on top of it. And how do you fit these two together? And basically what we saw play out is, OK, Bitcoin, almost no applications on top of it. And the EVM, which is what powers Ethereum, is actually where all the applications are built upon. And you can actually take the EVM part and put that on top of Bitcoin. And suddenly you can use all the Bitcoin that you have and you can use it in the applications that you find on Ethereum. OK, all right. Is it a scenario where Bitcoin benefits more or does Ethereum benefit more in this particular scenario? In this scenario, because we are fully on Bitcoin, so the whole protocol will run on Bitcoin, you will use Bitcoin to buy NFTs, you will use Bitcoin to be in DeFi indexes. Bitcoin is here, the big winner, and our applications that we want to bring are really to the Bitcoiners. All right. So I was looking at your website and on the how does Botanics work, and it gets into the spider chain. You know, I'm kind of highlighting that on screen right now. But the question I have for you is the difference between the spider chain and what Layer 2 Labs is doing with their BIP sidechain, because we've had Paul on before talking about, you know, what Layer 2 Labs does and what sidechains do and how they would kind of change the dynamic. What is the difference between what you guys are doing and them? Yeah, so the end goal is actually very similar to bring the EVM or other sidechains to Bitcoin. However, the approach and the technology is very different. Drive chains need a Bitcoin soft fork, so they need an upgrade to the Bitcoin protocol while we do not require any soft fork. So the spider chain is actually possible on Bitcoin today, which is a big difference. So in reality, this is actually a proof of stake. And so the random subset of participants are all stakers. So anyone in the world will be able to run the full protocol. Anyone will be able to stake and then the decentralized multistake will basically choose random participants out of that staker set. And so right now we are fully building it. I actually saw the testnet run this week. We will go public with that very soon and then we will start building towards the main net. Now, one of the things that happens when you run proof of stake on top of Bitcoin, it also means that in the very initial phases, when you have very little Bitcoin staked, you are very vulnerable to an attack, basically someone coming in with 5000 Bitcoin, taking over majority control of the stake and attacking the platform. And that's why we will start off federated in a more centralized way. We will be like liquid basically on Bitcoin, have some federated partners that we work together with until there's sufficient activity in win and we can make the full protocol permissions. All right. I think that's a good step, you know, because you're right with these kinds of things and this kind of scenario that would make it a little bit of a thing at risk. All right. So when you look at both Bitcoin, what we've seen in terms of the core, the core devs on Bitcoin, very reluctant to change over the years. And then you look at the evolution of what's happened within the Ethereum ecosystem and it's the exact opposite. They're just a constant, you know, throw of new devs. There's a constant new innovation happening, a test of all sorts. I mean, when you look at Bitcoin and Ethereum, is Bitcoin ever going to catch up in terms of dev activity and real movement to become something of a true currency or at least the use case of currency? Because I think that's obviously for Ethereum what ETH seems to be trying to achieve. Bitcoin ever going to catch up here? What do you thought? Yeah, I think Bitcoin itself as the Bitcoin protocol, I don't think so. It's most important for Bitcoin that it's decentralized and secure. And so that also means not a lot of upgrades. I think for all the layer twos and a lot of applications that are built on top of Bitcoin, absolutely. I think we are going to see a very big explosion of applications and layer twos in the coming years. And maybe to go further on to that point, I actually believe a big portion of the differences between Bitcoin and Ethereum is because of their foundational beliefs, which leads to a culture difference. Like the Bitcoiners, they align more with decentralization is the first principle that matters the most. The Ethereum proponents align more as a first principle. It needs to be composable. It needs to be a virtual machine. And then you have, for example, people who like Solana more, they say speed is the other most important. Same for Monero and privacy. Now, out of all of these properties, I would say Bitcoin as being the layer one for reserve currency is the most important. But all the other properties who are also very valid and have reached product market fit, you can bring them on top of Bitcoin as a layer two. And that's what I think will happen. Yeah. So in terms of the user experience on on spider chains like this, is this going to be different from other layer twos that would play into this? Yeah. So in terms of user experience, we have optimized for that and we think it's going to be extremely easy to go on to Botanics. For people who have used Arbitrum, Botanics is going to feel like you're bridging from Ethereum to Arbitrum, exactly the same. We will provide you with a certain Bitcoin address you send from any wallet, any exchange, any cold wallet, Bitcoin to that address. And boom, you have Bitcoin in your metamask. I like it. Which is that is so bizarre to see how this is going. As far as timeline, when you look at the current progress you guys have made so far, what the roadmap looks like. I'll get to the roadmap in a second. I'm just kind of curious, just from a framework of timing here, you've got a halving coming up. There's going to be a lot of acceleration around Bitcoin and its use, along with a lot of people getting into it, just recognizing Bitcoin for the first time. How long before this could potentially be a real solution? Yeah, it's very interesting. Development, as long as you're not online and the blockchain is not fully running, can go really fast. So our iteration steps, our testing process are going very fast to the moment we will go out with a testnet this month in October. And then after that, we actually are very happy with the timing that the Bitcoin halving is coming very soon because we actually aim for the mainnet by the Bitcoin halving. So mainnet basically means you will be able to use it. You will start having all your favorite EVM applications, but using Bitcoin with it. So explain to me, Willem, how Spiderchain would be different than, say, something like Stacks, you know, building obviously with ordinals playing into this. How is it and what are the core attributes that would make it different? Yeah, two big differences there. So Stacks runs on the Stacks token, Botanics runs on Bitcoin. And a second big difference is we are fully EVM equivalent. What means that any application that is built on Ethereum is able to be deployed, plug and play, copy paste on top of Botanics. OK, so we have a lot of Bitcoiners on our show, people who just think it's kind of the only way. And then we have a lot of people where I would say we're a neutral network. You know, we look at people that are really into Web3 and the development of what's going on with Bitcoin, along with other projects that are in the layer one camps, especially if you think about even Cardano and Avalanche. But you look at Bitcoiners and they're very, very centralized into the, I should say, the culture, not decentralized, obviously, as a platform, but the culture itself kind of has one vision. Have you had a lot of pushback from Bitcoiners in general? Yeah, more than I expected, actually, and the biggest pushback is actually on the EVM part, even though our whole protocols run on runs on Bitcoin. So I expect that a lot of Bitcoiners to actually fully love this. A lot of the pushback has been on the EVM, which is the Ethereum virtual machine. And it is actually because of the connotation and the bias that they have with Ethereum. But you actually argue that the EVM is a hugely powerful virtual machine and actually think the EVM has won out what we call the virtual machine battle. We think a lot of the applications that we're seeing have been built on virtual machines and the EVM is the biggest virtual machine out there. Yeah. Is there, in terms of support, where is that coming from for this project? Yeah, very interesting. It's everyone who aligns with our vision that says, like, OK, we see Bitcoin is the currency, but it's very good at being digital gold and being very decentralized and secure. But then on the other hand, they also love the EVM. They also love playing around in DeFi, on DEXs, by NFTs. And so it's basically someone who is active in the application ecosystem, but still holds Bitcoin in there called Wal -Mart. And so these two visions, they're not mutually exclusive. You can build the EVM on top of Bitcoin. And those are the people who we've seen the most support from.

A highlight from CONGRESS DEMANDS BITCOIN ETF APPROVAL - GENSLER GETS REKT | SB Originals
"You refuse to be transparent with Congress regarding your interactions with FTX and Sam Bankman -Fried. That's the investigation we started last Congress. Finally, your lack of responsiveness to this committee's legitimate oversight continues to be unacceptable. And I want to finish here. In February, the committee made multiple requests for documents to the Securities Exchange Commission. This is normal congressional oversight. Yet seven months later, the committee has not received a single non -public document that was not part of a FOIA production. As I said, our patience is wearing thin. The SEC is not above the law, nor is it unique. Other financial regulators have routinely complied with congressional oversight. So let me be clear. I do not want to be the first chairman of this committee to issue a subpoena to the Securities Exchange Commission. And you should not want to be the first SEC chair to receive a congressional subpoena. Either we find a path forward where the SEC recognizes Congress is a co -equal branch of government and is responsive to our oversight duties, or my option is to issue a subpoena. It's time for you to consider the lasting consequences of your actions and what that means to the Securities Exchange Commission's reputation long term. While your time in this role may be temporary, the repercussions for your actions may be permanent for the agency. I yield back. What's up and welcome back. You know, they say when you're on the hot seat, the burns can last a lifetime. And the other night the hot seat was in Congress and Gary Gensler was feeling the heat. We got a lot to cover. Let's get it. All right, let's get it started here. This was just in full letter to the SEC, and this was on September 26th and addressed to Chairman Gensler. It included Representatives Mike Flood, Tom Emmer, Richie Torres, and Wylie Nickel, and they claimed the SEC continuously is discriminated against spot Bitcoin ETFs. And then we have this from Representative Warren Davidson, Gary Gensler must be held accountable. And then if you guys look at the tweet here throughout his tenure, Gary Gensler has blatantly ignored Congress, be it when considering rulemakings or responding to lawmakers oversight requests. Republicans continue to bring long overdue accountability to Gensler's SEC. Republicans are holding SEC Chair Gensler accountable. They even went so far as to say, all right, let's bring in subpoenas or maybe we should just fire this guy. He went further. Gensler's failures are many. That's why I introduced the SEC Stabilization Act to fire Gary Gensler. He'll see you in the hearing. And we've got so much of the hearing to get to. It was honestly out of line in some regards, hilarious. But let's get to it. And we're going to go ahead and get it started here with the GOP majority whip, Tom Emmer totally crushes Gary Gensler. Here's one quote. It cannot be understated. A common theme throughout your career, sir, is your relentless loyalty to the largest financial institutions at the clear expense of innovation, competition and everyday Americans. Let's roll the clip. Chair Gensler, I have a series of questions that require a yes or no answer. And in the interest of my limited time, I'd appreciate it if you would comply with it. Mr. Gensler, is it fair to say generally that large institutions in any given industry benefit more from regulatory uncertainty than everyday market participants or smaller institutions who don't have the scale or the capital to fund expensive compliance teams? Large institutions could benefit from uncertainty. Reclaiming my time. The answer is yes, sir. Mr. Gensler, you had an 18 year career at Goldman Sachs where you were partner and co -head of finance, correct? Yes, sir. Thank you. And is it correct to say that you made most of your personal wealth directly through your employment at this bank, Goldman Sachs? I've done well since then, too, sir.

The Breakdown
A highlight from Where Crypto Has Product-Market Fit (And Where It Doesn't)
"Welcome back to The Breakdown with me, NLW. It's a daily podcast on macro, Bitcoin, and the big picture power shifts remaking our world. What's going on, guys? It is Sunday, October 1st, and that means it's time for Long Read Sunday. Before we get into that, however, if you are enjoying The Breakdown, please go subscribe to it, give it a rating, give it a review, or if you want to dive deeper into the conversation, come join us on the Breakers Discord. You can find a link in the show notes or go to bit .ly slash breakdown pod. Hello friends, welcome to one of the best months of the year, October. You love to see it. Around here in these crypto parts, we call this October, and I don't know if the price is going to follow that, but I certainly know that the vibes will. Now, it is Long Read Sunday, and this show represents for me not only a chance to bring in the opinions of other people, but also a chance to think a little bit more broadly, a little bit less focused on the news of the day or the week. And so with that in mind, we turn to a piece from Li Jin, one of the co -founders of Variant, that makes an argument about one of the big challenges that faces the industry as it attempts to go more mainstream. I think it's an interesting argument, and so I'm going to read the piece and then we'll talk about it a little bit further. The essay is called, The Barrier to Mainstream Crypto Adoption Isn't UX, It's Product -Market Fit. Li writes, Discussions about accelerating adoption of crypto often focus on improving user experience. The popular thinking goes, Web3 products lag behind from a user experience perspective, onboarding poses multiple points of friction, and technological concepts come with learning curves. Web3 is missing a seamless experience for apps that will unlock greater adoption. While improving crypto UX is certainly important, I believe that the more significant and urgent barrier to adoption is building things that people want. Web3 has a product market fit problem, not a UX problem. Product market fit is when a product satisfies a strong market need. For consumer builders, the elegance and challenge in building for consumers is that humans have remarkably consistent needs across time. That's why Maslow's hierarchy of needs continues to resonate nearly a century after its introduction, with universal needs ranging from the physiological food, shelter, and clothing, to the psychological — belonging, love, entertainment, and esteem. The history of consumer startups is one of continual innovation in solving for human needs in novel ways. Though people often dismiss new consumer apps as incremental innovations in flipping categories — i .e. teens making dance videos — the truth is that successful startups offer a step -function improvement in enabling people to achieve a core need. Amazon sold us books and everything else in just a few clicks, dramatically easing the process for procuring goods. Facebook enabled us to connect with those we care about instantly. Tinder exposed us to an order of magnitude more potential romantic partners than anyone could stumble on in real life. There is a lot of evidence that when the user benefit is great enough, users are willing to jump through UX hurdles and learn new behaviors, in crypto and beyond. Examples include the first iPhone, which lacked a touch keyboard, the internet itself, and all crypto assets and applications that have had significant adoption to date — NFTs during the last bull market being a primary example. For products that solve a core need, unfamiliar and complicated UX hasn't been a blocker. Despite the long list of multifaceted user needs, so far, explorations of the opportunities that crypto can uniquely address have been largely limited to the financial realm. While income is a widespread need, products where income derives from speculation work when the market goes up but lose their appeal as prices fall. It's a tough sell, especially when there are alternatives for users to attain income with less risk and uncertainty. There is an opportunity for crypto builders to build products that better address other human needs, such as belonging, community, and entertainment. What could that look like? On a small scale, NFT communities and decentralized autonomous organizations have satisfied some people's need for belonging, forging novel social graphs on the basis of asset ownership. To those who say that shared financial interests can't be the basis for real relationships, consider that many of our real -world connections are predicated on ownership, whether that's There's an opportunity to leverage on -chain assets as the basis for new communities that solve for belonging, esteem, and connection. In August 2023 alone, 94 .5 million NFTs were minted across Ethereum and its Layer 2 scalability protocols. As the volume of user activity grows, imagine inferring users' interests based on on -chain actions and exposing connections based on a rich activity history. On -chain media expands our entertainment options, giving us skin in the game for what we consume and create online. On platforms like sound .xyz, friend .tech, and Zora, users can bet on media and creators they believe in, enhancing their experience of the content and turning these networks into financialized games. In a world where all media is incepted as NFTs, there will be a new economic dimension that can enrich our experience of the internet. These are just starting points for what it could look like for crypto to find product -market fit and address needs beyond just income. There's room for much more experimentation from here. To achieve widespread adoption and evolve beyond their current niche, crypto products need to enhance the human experience through solutions that wouldn't be possible without crypto.

Evangelism on SermonAudio

"We talked about survival last night. You know there's a saying I've always thought, don't wait until you're thirsty to dig a well. A lot of times we wait until the 15th round before we've been knocked down, before we go for help. Isn't that true? Sometimes we have to hit that bottom bottom, I guess. Just don't take things for granted. Good lives, lives that are together are not my accident. They're my right choices. The world just says you're lucky, but we know it's not luck. We know it's not luck. You don't order godly kids in the catalog. I'm a godly kid, respectful. You don't order me, you have to build lives. And I tell you what, we live in a day that, I tell you what, it's kind of sad. God doesn't give you wisdom. To see things how he sees them, and actually to see through things. To see through the deception of Satan. Look, two things I begged for in my life. I begged to be a solider, and I begged to raise my kids. He used to beg God for wisdom, because I knew his past was going to be greater than me. He used to say, if you want to mess up your life, that's your choice, but you're not messing your kids' lives up. And I don't know, I guess God, I just begged God for wisdom, and then James, he says he'll give it to you liberally if you ask. And I do believe he has. I got a lady in my church, my secretary, I'm going to be the secretary. She said, I think there is certainly something about raising kids. And if I really even know what I said, I just need to ask her. I think she wrote down everything I've ever said. And it's nice to have people listen. You know, it's ironic, people in my church now are more like me than my own kids. That's just the way it is. They're more like their pastor. They've been influenced by their pastor. My people have been influenced by me. They've been sitting under my preaching group, some of them, for 29 years. So, you know, they actually thank and remind me of how my kids would be. I see my kids, and they've kind of sometimes drifted away from different ways. And it kind of hurts me, but they become like their pastor. And, you know, so we just need to try to encourage each other, you know, hold together. You know, we're one body of many members. Amen. I think I heard one time that a car has about 30 ,000 parts. You know, it takes all of them to put together. It only takes one of them to miss malfunctions before you're in trouble. Isn't that the truth? You know, when one malfunction, you know, you have maybe eight cylinders on your car. You know, when one of them malfunctions, you lose a lot more than one -eighth of your power. Anyone in those cars knows if one plug or one wire is misfiring, it's like you lose 70 % of your power. And, you know, we got to make sure we don't malfunction on starry again. Mm -hmm. Joe, Steve will bring her own water tonight, because I'm not falling for that one yet. You know, we just need to work together as a body. You know, hey, I always tell my people, the devil only needs one heart to work out of. Don't let your heart be that one he works out of. It's a dangerous place to be, too. And, well, I think we have enough work out here. We have enough people that I think God's work, besides having Christians, amen, but Ezekiel, if you're Ezekiel 33 now, verse, I just thought we'd start at verse 31. It says, and they came unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear my words, but they will not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after covetousness, passions, desires, things like that. And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument, for they hear thy words, but they do them not. They were too powerful at first, aren't they? Man, I just read that. They point that verse, so many people are, they sit in church, and, you know, they may say, oh, it's a good message, whatever, but they just don't do them. God says, happier little do these things, amen, you know? And just knowing them and not doing them actually just makes you miserable, probably, right? Some people just have enough religion to bug them instead of bless them. Isn't that the truth? Yeah, just enough to just make them miserable without making them joyful. One guy I've told, and I've heard this all the time, but he's going to tell me in church, he says, the pastor's job is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable, you know? So I'm here to try to disturb you where you're comfortable and comfort you where you're hurting. Amen? And so we come here tonight and turn with me now to Mark, Matthew, Mark, I think, with the gospel, where Christ is portrayed as his servant. You know, the four gospels in Matthew, God is portrayed as a king, as a king, and Mark as a servant, and Mark and Luke as a son of man, and John, the son of God. And we find here one of my passages I love, and I don't know, anyone have favorite, I love, I have so many favorite passages, I guess, but I like this one because it's about four men, I guess, a four, but I guess I can't even say for sure, I'm sure there were probably men that took a man of palsy that was paralyzed through the Peter's house roof to get him to Jesus to be healed. It says there in chapter two, no, actually this just follows where I talked about it the other day about the leper that was healed, and Jesus said in verse 44, right before that in chapter one, see thou say nothing to any man that would go thy way and show thyself to the priests and offer for like cleanliness these things which Moses commanded for a testimony to them. But he went out and began to publicize it much, to blaze abroad the matter, and so much that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city. I mean, God, Jesus at the end is so well known now, it's hard for him to even, you know, move and around stuff, and set him up in the desert places, and they came to him from every quarter. So we come here now, it says here, and again, he entered into Capernaum, you know, that's kind of where he kind of made his home, where Peter was after some days, and it was noise that he was in the house. And straightway, many were gathered together in so much that there was no room for them, no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door. And he preached the word unto them, and they came unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was born of four, and when they could not come nigh unto him from the press, in other words, the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was, and when they had broken a nub, they let down a bad brim the sick of the palsy lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he sent unto the sick of the palsy, saying, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. And there were certain of the scribes sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, you know, isn't that amazing? Here in this crowd, there are some hearts that were very, very ungodly. Here they are just looking for a reason to cause trouble, looking for a reason, observing just with a critical spirit, you know, and sadly, they can be in a church, someone comes just to be a critic, but there were certain of the scribes sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, why does this man thus speak blaspheming? Who can forgive sins but God only? See, they knew exactly what Jesus was saying he was. Jesus said, I am God, you know, and that made them angry because they didn't want to receive it except that, and immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye of these sayings in your hearts? Whether it is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, thy sins be forgiven thee, or to say, Arise and take up thy bed and walk. But that ye may know that the Son of Man hath power on earth to forgive sins. He said to the sick of palsy, I say unto thee, Arise and take up thy bed and go thy way unto thy house, and immediately he arose, took up his bed, and went forth before them all, insomuch that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this faction. Isn't that amazing? You know, I love that. You know how exciting when God's moving in the hearts of people. When you have a revival, you know, it's not about one person. It's about what God is doing in the hearts of people. And your testimony has brought tears to my eyes. You know, man, isn't that great? Somebody cared enough to go out and make that extra effort, and here he is in church today, almost waiting ahead on the sight of somebody who cared for his soul. You know, I had one psalmist who said, There's no way I cared for my soul. You know, tonight, that's why we're here. We're one beggar telling another beggar before we found bread telling people. I thank God I was blessed to grow up in a Christian home. And I tell you, I didn't have to make us go to church. We loved church. We loved revival meetings. Loved evangelists. You know, that was just kind of the highlight of the year, really. It was like the Super Bowl, you know? And I just thank God. We were poor. It was just like church mice. There were six kids we were poor so we could get out. But I tell you what, I remember I was a little boy. I had my own little horn, you know? I won't tell you. Because there was an evangelist. He blew up. He had a horn. And I would not get out in the middle. I wanted to be like him. I tell you what, that's the kind of heros you ought to be wanting your kids to have. My friend today, if you don't get them in church, if you don't build up the man of God, if you don't build up authority in your life, it will come back to bite you like you've never seen. Go ahead and teach your children disrespect to pastors, to the president, to police.

On a practical level, thinking about crypto politically is almost certainly a waste of time. And more importantly, once you start basing decisions around what the government will allow in reference to crypto, the game is lost. I'm saying this at a time when the sitting US president has more or less declared war on crypto, and when the nation's top regulators are circling the pack routinely picking off choice targets one by one. But engaging in the political process as a means of ensuring crypto's future is to miss the point of crypto so hard it's almost embarrassing to have to write this column. Crypto doesn't need political support. It just needs to be built in a way that rises above politics. This isn't even an ideological argument. It's the practical reality of blockchain as we know it. Projects that rely on staying in the good graces of regulators, executives, and judges should be assumed dead in the same way a vulnerability in code should be exploited. There's a reason why Bitcoin has stayed around, yet projects like LBRY have been wiped off the map. If a project has a vulnerability, it will be exploited. And all crypto projects are exposed to the vagaries of the law. The Biden administration has undoubtedly been tough on crypto, but there is no reason some future president won't be worse. Gary Gensler was expected to be pro -crypto, and look at how that turned out. If blockchains are truly meant to sustain themselves for centuries, why expose them at all to four -year election cycles? I'm not going to say that the work of elected politicians like Senators Cynthia Lummis and Kirsten Gillibrand, who are advancing some of the most pro -crypto legislation to date, isn't appreciated, or that Representative Tom Emmer isn't a true believer in crypto. Lobbyists at the Blockchain Association have argued the short -term success of crypto will be determined by getting pro -crypto butts in seats. However, there is no telling whether pro -crypto politicians or regulations won't do even more damage than crypto's critics and antagonists, like the negative impact that mega -donor Sam Bankman -Fried's preferred set of rules would have had by protecting his likely fraudulent exchange, FTX. At least crypto's enemies help crypto cut its teeth.

He continues to serve as a retreat leader and director to bishops, priests and sisters, seminarians and other religious leaders. Building a Kingdom of Love Reflections with Monsignor John Essif. I'm your host, Chris McGregor. What's on my mind is such a, such a humble and beautiful saint, the little flower of Jesus, St. Teresa. The story of the little flower is so powerful in itself. It's so contra what our modern day sees as successful. First, like she goes to a Carmelite convent and, you know, people of our day say, well, she buried her talents, she buried her life, and even the idea of prayer being contributory to the world and its happiness. The little flower spent eight years in a Carmelite convent, a very short life. She died at 24. Even when she was in the convent, the sisters hardly knew anything about her life of holiness. She had kept a journal, her autobiography. She was asked and in fact ordered to write it by her superior. The wisdom of that book, I know, and I was in the seminary in the 40s and the 50s. Her story of a soul is one of the most popular spiritual books and it's so simple. She is the saint of the ordinary. She transforms every act of her life into an act of love and also a desire to unite her prayer with the sacrifice of her love. She became a victim of love for souls. Her whole desire during those eight years was to save souls for God through prayer, through sacrifice, through love. The hiddenness of her life, in fact, when she died, her sisters, who didn't know the depth of her love and her sanctity, said, what are we going to say about her? She has done nothing extraordinary, nothing that would catch the attention of anyone. She takes something like the rattling of the beads, which drove her crazy. She was so highly sensitive and some nun would rub the beads up against the bench in back of her and it would cause her like chalk on a blackboard and that's what would do with her system. She used that as an act of sacrificial love and transformed it and took it as an occasion and an opportunity to offer a sacrifice to God. The crankiest and the most rejecting of all the sisters, she would see them and embrace their rejections. I was just recently with a priest. His face would crack if he would smile. He was so unhappy. It's amazing and just to be around him, it was like pus oozed from his system of unhappiness. He wanted to know everybody to know just how unhappy he was and he would want to make everybody as unhappy as he was. And even to stand next to him, you know, what an opportunity that would be that St. Therese would say, why don't you just give him love and offer him the love so that he could have an opportunity to love. You know, just being around a person who's angry, upset all the time. So all of us have these opportunities in our day and the scripture in the mass that Jesus taught us, the church is teaching us on her feast, the disciples came to Jesus with the question, who is the greatest, most important in the kingdom of God? He called over a little child and stood him in their midst and said, I assure you, unless you change and become like a little child, you will not enter the lowly. Becoming like this child is the greatest and most important in the kingdom of God and the heavenly reign, the simplicity and the humility of a child. Now I believe in order for us to see a child who just simply looks at you with simple love. And so therefore, I really believe what Jesus is looking at is a little, little child in our society. Take today and see where in your neighborhood, in your family, look at a child. My cousin, Christine, of baby, she was so sweet, Olivia, just her eyes, her every smile, everything that would come into that child's face would be some of the most beautiful things that I could remember. I think that's the kind of child this was that our Lord meant in the gospel. There's a prayer. I was with my cousin and he had been making an avina to know what job he should take. And his favorite saint, and she is a favorite saint of so many, was the little flower. He would say this prayer to God through the intercession of St. Teresa. And she claimed, those who are devotees of St. Teresa claim, that they receive a rose or would have a rose as a sign that their prayer would be answered. And he made an avina and he got not only a rose, but his wife had given him this 30 roses. She didn't know that he was doing this, saying these prayers. He got an offer for a job that was absolutely unable to refuse. It was so powerful a sign right after he had received this bouquet of roses. And it was a sign to him that he should change his job. So many that I've talked to, the beautiful example of the little flower of humility, simplicity, childlikeness, and the prayer. My mother's middle name was Cecilia Teresa Esef. It's on her tombstone. She had this tremendous devotion. In fact, she gave a middle name to my sister Marlene. Marlene is Marlene Therese and also Mayanne Therese. And she had great devotion to the little flower. And she herself was a third -order Carmelite. And she had a way about her. My mother's prayer was very powerful for all of us. All of us, my cousins and so many people in our family. She never was out there. She wasn't someone who got into the mother's in school or in the altar and rosary in the parish or outside the family. She had five children. When I was a little boy, I would get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and I would see my mother on her knees. I thought every mother did this. When she would take us for a walk, she would stop in the church and she would make the Stations of the Cross. And we would kind of be there with her. But we just took for granted. That's what mom did. All her life, her entire life, her rosary, her prayers. And she had this power about her. Not really being noticed. But in our family, I would say, everyone who would refer to my mother would say she was like the holiest person they had ever met at her death. That's what she was known for. Prayer, humility, and childlikeness. She had a simplicity about her. And I saw this characteristic in some. When a person has this hiddenness, this characteristic of trusting in the power of prayer. Although the little flower never left her caramel and died at the age of 24, she has been known all over the Catholic world as the patroness of the missions. She is the saint of Vietnam.

Riot Games Acquires Hytale Developer Hypixel Studios
"League of Legends developer Riot Games has just shared its next big bet. Recently, the company said it had acquired Hypixel Studios. They're the creator of an upcoming role -playing game called Hytale. If you're not familiar with the game, think Minecraft, but with more of a focus on adventuring and combat. Riot didn't disclose the financial terms of the acquisition. However, it doesn't sound like Riot plans to change too much about how the studio functions. The company says Hypixel will retain its current structure with plans to open a new office in Northern Ireland that will host additional back office and quality assurance staff. Riot adds it will share its experience in developing and publishing acclaimed player -focused games with Hypixel. The acquisition is the latest move in what has already been a big year for a studio that for the longest time only had a game to its name. It's not surprising to see Riot try to recreate the success of Minecraft. The now almost 10 -year -old title is one of the most popular games in the world at the

"Hello everyone! Welcome to your weekly tech update, the show that explores the newest, coolest, and sometimes mind -boggling side of tech available on the interwebs. I am your host, Ray McNeil. Coming up on the program today, Google Meet video calls are getting a Zoom -like layout. Impossible Foods rolls out to nearly one thousand new grocery stores and supermarkets, and will take your mind off the world and put a smile on your face with this week's Moment of Joy. That and a whole lot more coming up on today's edition of your weekly tech update, next. Google Meet will undergo huge changes over the next few weeks as the tech giant rushes to make it a more viable alternative to Zoom. To start with, the video conferencing tool is now directly accessible from within Gmail for business and education users. Those who prefer Zoom for its gallery -like layout that can show up to 25 participants at once would probably be more excited to get another feature coming later this month. Google will roll out a new layout option that can display up to 16 participants. There's already a Chrome extension that can mimic the Zoom feature for Meet, but its official release means there's no need for a workaround anymore. The company will also enhance Meet's video quality in dim lighting and its ability to filter out background noise in the coming weeks. In addition, an upcoming feature will allow users to display a specific tab open on their Chrome browser during a call. Zoom recently enjoyed a surge in popularity due to a shelter -at -home order, but it suffered from various privacy issues that has prompted a lot of organizations. including several school districts in the U .S. to ban it outright. With these changes, Meet could become a new decent alternative to Zoom, especially since its premium features are free to use until September 30th. "Hello everyone! Welcome to your weekly tech update, the show that explores the newest, coolest, and sometimes mind -boggling side of tech available on the interwebs. I am your tech therapist, Ray McNeil. I'm here to take your mind off of the current state of the world and my prescription? Technology. Coming up on the program today, Google's Tilt Brush virtual painting app is coming to the PlayStation VR. This has me so excited. Valve's first entry into the Half -Life world in 13 years is now available and it's in VR. And happening in this week's What The... We're actually going to rename the segment this week to give you just a moment of joy. That and a whole lot more coming up on today's edition of your weekly tech update, next. Hi everyone. Google's Tilt Brush painting app is conquering one of its few remaining frontiers. We're talking about consoles. The search giant has teamed up with Outerloop Games to release the 3D creative tool for the PlayStation VR. To no one's surprise, it's the same experience just in your living room. It turned your PlayStation Move controllers into virtual brushes that you can use to create pretty much any immersive masterpiece that you can dream up. And yes, Sony is aware that Move controllers aren't always easy to find. It's actually selling a $100 Tilt Brush bundle that includes two wands plus a code for Tilt Brush. That kit doesn't include the PlayStation VR headset itself, but it beats having to scrounge for controllers at other stores or even shops like Goodwill. However you complete your setup, it could be worth the expense if you need another creative tool to help you relax during a particularly stressful time. Dragon's Lair was a technological marvel when it was released way back in 1983. Instead of using conventional graphics of the day, which were not great at all, it featured real animation by ex -Disney animator Don Bluth enabled by beefy laser disc storage. It wasn't a particularly good game. Alright, it was horrible, but those stunning visuals turned it into a five -star quarter eater and inspired home versions on a variety of platforms. The original is on Steam right now if you wanted to play it, and GOG picked up the Dragon's Lair trilogy back in 2018. In 2015, Bluth and Gary Goldman launched a $550 ,000 Kickstarter project to help fund the creation of Dragon's Lair the movie. It tanked, so they cancelled and went to Indiegogo looking for $250 ,000 slightly over what was pledged on Kickstarter. At this time, they were actually successful, achieving their goal in just a couple of weeks and ultimately pulling in more than $350 ,000. And now, according to The Hollywood Reporter anyway, the project has been picked up by Netflix, with none other than Ryan Reynolds in talks to star as Dragon's Lair hero, Dirk the Daring. Bluth, Goldman, and John Pomeroy, another animator who left Disney to work with Bluth, are producing this. Netflix confirmed the report on Twitter. Dragon's Lair isn't very big on plot. Princess Daphne has been kidnapped by the Dragon Singe and is being held in the fortress of the evil wizard Marduk. And Dirk the Daring, a bold, vaguely dumbwitted knight, crashes the castle to rescue her. The game itself doesn't provide any greater depth because it's basically a series of rapid -fire quick -time events. That means the writers have the freedom to run with pretty much whatever they want. But whether that's actually a good thing, we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully it will be better than Reynolds' last collaboration with Netflix, the Michael Bay -directed cinematic fiasco Six Underground. Honestly, I can't imagine it being any worse. However, I am an action fan and I did find some mild entertainment out of that movie. Tesla is preparing to release an update to its Autopilot system that will enable it to finally automatically stop at traffic lights. And a video of the system at work has already been released. The automaker is supposed to induce more advanced driver assist features meant to help city driving, the same way Autopilot has been helping Tesla drivers for highway driving. It's part of what CEO Elon Musk calls the feature -complete version of its full self -driving capability, which Tesla was supposed to push at least to its early access owners by the end of last year. Instead, Tesla pushed what Musk called a full self -driving preview, which was the integration of stop signs and traffic lights in Tesla's Autopilot visualization. When the automaker pushed the update in December, Tesla's Autopilot system didn't act on those traffic lights. Now, it looks like Tesla has started to push an Autopilot update with the actual ability to handle intersections to its early access fleet, a group of owners who beta test new software updates from Tesla. Out of Spec Motoring on Twitter, who apparently has access to a Model 3 with early access software, released a video of the new Autopilot software in action. It shows the Model 3 detecting the red light and stopping the car on its own with some new driving visualizations. The driver assist feature for city driving is part of a promise that Tesla has made since starting to sell its full self -driving package many years ago now. It's going to be available to owners of Tesla vehicles with the latest Autopilot hardware and who paid the $7 ,000 full self -driving capable package price, which has been listing these two upcoming features, recognize and respond to traffic lights and stop, and automatic driving on city streets. The fact that the feature is in early access right now means that Tesla is closer than ever to releasing it to its broader fleet, but the timeline is not exactly clear. Sometimes Tesla only takes days between pushing a feature to its early access owners and the larger customer fleet, while at other times it can take weeks. While Tesla Autopilot will be able to automatically operate at intersections like with Autopilot on the highway, Tesla still says that drivers must keep their hands on the steering wheel at all times and, of course, be ready to take control. The driver is still always responsible for driving a Tesla vehicle.

Skype Debuts 'Meet Now' Feature to Rival Zoom
"There are more video calls going on now more than ever. However, a significant chunk of that action has gone to Zoom, which honestly I had never heard of before a couple of months ago, and not necessarily Skype, who has been the mainstay video chatting service for many years now. Microsoft's product that has been at the center of online voice and video chat since well before smartphones were commonplace is now coming out with a new feature that's rivaling Zoom and the market share that Zoom has captured in its short time. Perhaps too easy with some security and privacy compromises, but Skype is finally ready to fight back with Meet Now. Credible photos of headphones that appeared to be the Sony WH -1000XM4 appeared on Twitter earlier last month, but it looks like they're a no -show for the time being anyway. While we're waiting, however, the company recently announced that it's bringing out two new wireless headphones. The WF -XB700 is a true wireless headphone in the company's extra bass line. It'll cost $130, while the WH -CH710N, a new noise -canceling over -ear headphone, will cost $200. Both are set to be available for pre -order in April. WF -XB700 extra bass true wireless earbuds with Sony's extra bass technology hold structure. Ten minutes on the quick charge provides about 60 minutes of music playback. Available in April for pre -order in black and blue, and then of course we have the WH -CH710N. They come with 30 millimeter drivers, artificial intelligence noise canceling, and it can automatically select the most effective noise canceling mode for user surroundings. It also includes dual microphones. It'll kind of help you catch more ambient sounds, up to 35 hours of audio on a single charge, and it automatically selects the most effective noise canceling mode for the user's surroundings. You can get up to 35 hours of audio on a single charge and again it has the quick charge feature that provides 60 minutes of music playback via a 10 minute charge. Bluetooth 5 .0 is included with this as well as the standard USB -C charging. This has 30 millimeter drivers, support for Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, one touch button access to those digital assistants by the way, and it's going to be available in April for pre -order as well, this one only coming in black for the time being anyway. Having AI agents learn how to play simple video games is an ideal way to test their effectiveness thanks to the ability to measure success via a score. Alphabet's DeepMind designed 57 particular Atari games to serve as a litmus test for its artificial intelligence and established a benchmark for the skills of an average human player. The company's latest system, Agent 57, made a huge leap over previous systems and is the first version of the AI that outperforms the human baseline. In particular, Agent 57 has proven its superhuman skills in Pitfall, Montezuma's Revenge, Solaris, and Skiing, all those games that have been major challenges for other AIs. Now according to MIT's Technology Review, Pitfall and Montezuma's Revenge require the AI to experiment more than usual in order to figure out how to get a better score. Meanwhile, Solaris and Skiing are difficult for AI because there aren't as many indications of success. The AI doesn't know if it's making its right moves for long stretches of time. DeepMind built upon its older AI agents so that Agent 57 could make better decisions regarding exploration and score exploration as well as to optimize the trade -off between short -term and long -term performance in games like Skiing. Technology Review notes that while these results are impressive, AI still has a long way to go. These systems can only figure out one game at a time right now, which it says is at odds with the skills of a human. True versatility, which comes so easily to a human infant, is still far beyond AI's reach. That said, AI is already in use across industries. The lessons learned from Agent 57 could help improve performance even if human -level skills aren't achievable for now.

Oregon Rooted: The Dirt Show
A highlight from 104: Second Generation Genetics
"Welcome to Oregon Rooted. I'm Higher Peaks and this is Lady Sativa. You're listening to The Dirt Show, where we bring you Oregon's cannabis culture. Yeah, um, I know my water bill is bad. My water bills went way up. I've been using more than I thought I would. Have you been able to stay growing through the hot months here? I have been, but you know, yes I have been. It feels weird. Just because of the heat or because you're doing it? Both because I'm doing it. The market is so dead and to be dropping three and four hundred bucks on electricity every month feels kind of weird. Not just that, but like, you know, environmentally I'm running air conditioners and should I have never really run this much AC anyways, actually my electricity intake is a little bit down from what it was because it's a little bit more efficient. But, I don't know. I've got stuff going where I don't know what I'm going to do with it. We'll see. Well, you're doing it. That's good. I'm doing it, yeah. Are you unfollowing the right people or it seems like maybe some of these crazy fly -by -night breeders have calmed down a little bit. Am I crazy? I feel the same thing. I think the same thing. I'm not sure what happened. I was getting a bunch of heat there. It wasn't that long ago, a month ago. I reposted that thing about following somebody you don't like as a mental illness and things after that just stopped. Everything just stopped. I don't know. I stopped getting tagged to weird shit. I don't know. It's been weeks. I haven't had any drama come up. I think people are just so fatigued too in general. Sure. Social media, man. Fuck. Well, yeah. And in the last few months, I've been purposely unfollowing the ones that are blatantly obvious not to follow. Sometimes I get caught up with people following me and it's like, man, you got to keep that filter going. Gotcha. So what kind of work you've been putting in? Is it for the lines or are you just doing stuff personal or what's going on? Catch us up. Second plant that I've attempted to reverse. I think it's like the fifth or sixth reversal attempt that I've done. I'm still kind of a novice at this. But the pollen sacks or whatever, they don't have a little dangly part that they do on a regular male plant. Okay. They open up, but they don't dangle. So we don't like flapping the wind and they struggle to release that pollen. So I've a couple of times now I've gone in there and plucked them off with the tweezers and collected as much as I could. And it looks like I've got a couple successful pollination sites. But as to whether how many you'll have to be seen. And then I've got a couple of other tester things going on. Couple of things with DJ that we've collaborated on. Nice. Using those cocoa cushion nails. And then I've got my personal stuff going that my smoke. It's been really nice to be able to produce my own smoke again. I went a year and a half, two years there. No, I wasn't able to. I've been getting the most fun out of that to grow on my own smoke. Yeah, it is. It's I don't know. I prefer it. It's got to suck not being able to. I've been lucky that way. But were you going like party for asking or whatever, but were you going to dispensaries or how? Yeah. Damn. Yeah, that sucks. I was getting kicked out and shit from friends and stuff. But, you know, I smoke a lot. I remember one time I had an incident where I went to this one shop and they, you know, I would make big big he said, I mean, I used to sell weed, you know, I'm growing weed for years and years. So I know what Keith Nugget looks like. And man, I was disappointed. Yeah, I had a little freak out. That never happened to me on the black market. I was like, man, this is an illegal market. I've been more ripped off in the legal market than I. Oh, yeah. I it's hard for me to go to dispensaries. I still do occasionally not for flower anymore, of course, but, you know, edibles. I mean, geez, man, it's it's so hard to get for me anyway. I homogenizing not getting something that kicks my ass or is too weak, you know, so I do like the edibles I do buy at the dispensary. But are you a med patient? I should be, you know, but I haven't I guess I'm lazy, man. I I saving that tax money would be huge. It's expensive. Yeah, it's like 27 percent or something. I don't remember. That's right. I think that they do. They still restrict the milligram amount for med versus rec. It's weird. It depends on the edible, like if it's a child like edible. So if it's a gummy or something like that. Yeah, they're restricted to 100 milligrams, which I mean, I guess I can see, you know, if it was 100. Yeah, to 100 milligrams per. I mean, obviously, you can buy a buy up to five units per day. So why? Go ahead. I think back when I was buying and they were restricted to like 25 milligrams. I see. So 100 milligrams will do you two of those, right? Oh, well, so then if you don't get the gum, I do like the gummies because they work quick. I like the sugar base, obviously not for health, but for the, you know, edible. But actually, if you get something different like the syrups, which they don't consider to be like a child issue thing. So if you buy the syrups, you can get up to a thousand milligrams in those. And of course, that's that for me, that's too much. I prefer like I'll buy a 250 milligram syrup and then I'll split that between two nights. So I'll split, you know, one hundred and twenty five twice. And that seems to be the most efficient, affordable way to do it. Hundred milligrams is nice. But like you said, you said what you get two of them. And it's like, yeah, 200 milligrams is too much, but a hundred is not enough to put me down. Well, yeah. And then I get a massive hangover in the morning where I just don't want to get out of bed for three hours. And it's like that does not help the day. But that's really all I buy. You know, I've noticed, though, lately just messing around with these autos I've been screwing with. They don't obviously put out a lot of volume. And so I haven't been getting much in. But, you know, it's not like I guess I always thought I smoked a lot. But it's funny when you grow for yourself, you don't probably need as much as you think. You know what I mean? Like, I don't grow a lot, but it always seems to be available that the stuff I've grown. So I don't know. I tend to smoke a lot more when I when I grow my own. I see. Like, like joints and stuff or? No, just quantity. I like the bong, you know, the classic bong boy, but I'll do joints every once in a while. But I just I just. When I you know, when you buy it, you know, it's like you're smoking your money. And I have that mindset. But growing it, I just like, oh, it's free rain. Right. So like you smoke all day, like as much as you do. Well, I well, I've got a pretty good routine, actually, finally in my older years as I've settled down. And I wait until usually around three. I my am routine. I found that it's best that I conduct at least one activity first. And I feel like I'll get up and have my little morning ritual or smoothie. I go to the post office and what it usually is in the store on the way back or something, you know, get my food, my dinner stuff prepared. And then, you know, once I've got the main bulk of the outside chores done for a day, I'll come back and kind of put away smoke a little bit. A little bit? You said it was a lot. I start with a little bit. So I'll smoke like a bong hit at a time. But then I'll go back and smoke about every 20 minutes, 30 minutes when I'm going. Yeah. So I mean, like, can I ask you, since you're a bong person, do you do the one hits or do you just pack it and just hit it until it's gone? Just one hit. I never understood packing a bowl, smoking, you know, a charcoal bowl. I know, right? Never understood that. Yeah, especially when you have the option in a bong to really clear it every time and whatnot. I've never been a big bong guy, though. I don't know if it's my lungs or what, but it just. Wow. So what do you do? Joints? Yeah, I'll do joints or I mean. Joints are harsh. They can be. That's why I mean, you definitely want to smoke good joint weed. As far as where lungs go, joints just blow my lungs out. A bong, it's like you blow it out and you cough, you cough all that shit up and it's kind of done. But a joint, you just keep going and going. I hear what you're saying, man. I hear what you're saying. I mean, I think sometimes, and this is just, you know, speculation, but I think sometimes it's almost like if you get the technique down, it's like whether it's bong, whether it's bong or joint or whatever, if you get the technique and the skill down, it's like you can minimize that stuff. But if you don't have the right technique, it can mess you up. But I don't know. That's just. I don't know. I think that's right. I think, you know, growing up so poor, you never lose that mindset. And so every time I roll up a joint, you know, it's just smoking, period. Like, you know, you got one chance to fill up the lungs at a time and you got to put as much in there as possible. That's the point. Yeah. Well, absolutely.

"Okay. I didn't want to pause you there at all just because I think it's useful for everybody to hear the whole list. I mean, look, I don't think the list of teams is crazy, although I'm side eyeing Phoenix right now. And obviously they're banged up in bookers out. I have a story to tell about Phoenix, by the way. Okay. So all right. Go ahead. Look at Chris having the cultural reference. There we go. Starting off the new year right. So normally, I don't really like to talk about my reporting trips until they're done, okay? It's just kind of a superstitious thing. But I don't know what's going to happen here, but I was recently in Phoenix to work on a story, okay? I don't know when this story is going to come out because they've been on a massive slide. You know, I had a chance to speak with Devin Booker for a few minutes after his 58 point game. He's played like three minutes since then. But our listeners can't see this, obviously. I'm wearing a purple LA Dodgers hat currently while we do this podcast. I'm in Phoenix and it's a last minute trip and I have to go to Phoenix and I have to go to New York. And I'm in Phoenix and I have not had a chance to get my hair cut yet. So I need to buy a hat and I go to the I go to a local Urban Outfitters in Phoenix and I buy this Dodgers hat. I wear it to the game. I'm in the pregame press conference. I start to ask Monty Williams question in the pre game press conference and Monte Williams staring right at me goes, I know you're not wearing a Los Angeles hat right now. And I'm like, oh. I was like, I was like, it was an oversight. I didn't mean to. And Monty Williams still staring right at me, goes, that's an excuse. And now I'm just terrified. He put he put you in Deandre ayton territory. He was not happy and that's a very serious man right there. And I was like, I legitimately apologize. And he was like, apology accepted. I have not been scolded like that in a long time. I was terrified. So much so that at halftime, I went to the sun's team store, bought a new hat, but now I don't want to show up to the press conference wearing a sun's hat. So now I'm wearing a backward black sunset in the postgame press conference. Comedy of purchase errors. And Monty Williams after the game is like, I'm glad you turned your hat around. And I was like, I actually bought a new one. He looks like that's even better. So shout out to Marty Williams. Straight up yelling at me, but dude, I think yeah, I think I gotta take the suns off this list. Let's start there. Do you see a world in which the Phoenix Suns could still win the NBA championship? Okay, here. Yeah, but it's like, you know how, if you look at ESPN's standings for these different things and they give like the probabilities and when a team is essentially eliminated but not quite, they get the .1 chance of 1% chance. The .1% chance. I'm going to put Phoenix there. One, their record could easily drop. I haven't looked at their upcoming schedule lately. But what are they three games over 500 right now? They'll have a chance to build that back up. But also, you know, they've been kind of impressively up until recently had been impressively, I would say overachieving given their injuries, given all the off season stuff and maybe the most polite way to put this because I've been so impressed with how they managed to stay afloat and even not stay afloat, but kind of thrive in the midst of the server stuff and the questions about ayton and Monty Williams, Booker has just been chugging along. And now he's out, Chris Paul is not playing to his normal standards, which by the way, he's of an age now where you can't expect him to do that anymore. It's a team that's deep, but it's a team that for the first time we're seeing have real injuries. It was a team that was healthy for the better part of the last three seasons and all of a sudden is not healthy. So it makes total sense that some of these things are going to fall apart. I think that they'll rebound a little bit, but I have many, if not all of the same questions that I had after the way they folded last year in game 7. So I came into the season not expecting them to win the title, I came in expecting that they would maybe still finish a home court advantage team, but that is in risk right now too. So I don't know. I didn't expect them to win the title this year to begin with and I feel more confident that they probably won't now. So do they have a chance? Yes, is it slim as hell? Yes. And stuff will change once they get healthy a little bit, but I still think that there are flaws with this team. Yeah, I mean, for whatever reason I can't quit them, you know, they've been really good with Devin Booker this year. Devin Booker is now the best player in that team. I think he doesn't get talked enough about as a number one guy and a great team and they've been a great team when he's been healthy. You know, the warriors are on this win streak. They could have easily gone into a tailspin without Steph Curry and we'd be talking about them like we're talking about the sun's potentially, but I'm not saying Devin Booker Steph Curry, obviously, but I do think, you know, the way people talk about him early in his career, I think still colors some of the Devin Booker analysis. And I think it's just going to come down to his health. I'm with you. I think their chances are very slim. I think they're going to need to make a couple moves. I think they will make a couple moves, but it's really not looking good right now. I'm going to take and to be honest. I don't believe in astrology. But from the moment I was born, it's been a part of my life. In India, it's like smoking. You might not smoke, but you're going to get secondhand astrology. So I rounded up some friends and we dove in and let me tell you, it got weird fast. Patrick curses, Major League Baseball teams, canceled marriages, KPop, but just when I thought I had a handle on this sweet and curious show about astrology. My whole world can crash down. "But I'm glad I got to the bottom of it because I was like, have I been saying it wrong, this whole time? It's a happy new year's. No, there's no ass people, no S well, I'm so glad that we got to the bottom of that. My day has been made. But on a more serious note, my boyfriend I made intention list for the new year together. And the funny part is Julie and I share a canva account and I created this list in our canva account and I had to immediately delete it because on our list, there's some pretty personal things. So not ready to put out in the public yet or to divulge to Julie. What if I was in the canva cat of like, this is a great Instagram post. I'm just gonna put it up on our shared data bowl. You always like. Oh my God, our deepest darkest secrets. You're lucky I'm not lurking canva that much. I did not see this. So you're safe. Sure, she'll stalk a demo account by canva is the one that she had. Now I know. I didn't think there was juicy shit at Canada. That's juicy shit. I created a journal in campus. Wow. I know that that's where I gotta go find all UA steep darts. So now we're also the Internet. It's our shared canva account. The trash folder is where to find everything. You raise customer support, so is there any way that someone can just erase all of my shit forever to automatically delete please? Burn that shit. But we did create some very good intentions, one of them is we want to make more Friends. I feel like sometimes in a relationship I am totally guilty for this is that the relationship becomes my social life and that we don't actively search for new social interactions. So because we're a new city is a huge intention of ours to make new friends in this time of Corona somehow. I hear a lot of couples say that. I think especially if you relocate because you're social network is not there anymore. You have some friends in LA, but it's not the same necessarily. So I think, yeah, I think that's a real thing. I think it's unrealistic to expect that one person is going to be every year. Yeah, I mean, I think that's definitely something that's kept me in San Francisco for so long is that I do feel like I have that social network. It's something that I think is so important when you're single too. That's what got me through the pandemic. I didn't feel the loneliness because I did have that social support network. And I do think it's something for me. I was out with a friend of mine before I went back for the holidays..

Maybe you want to get more organized. And so a way that would be to create new lists using the list feature on Lexi Lexi create a new list, she'll ask you for a name about list. You create that list, and then you can add things to the list and check them off as you complete them. Maybe you want to learn a new skill or a hobby. There are tons of Lexi skills out there that you can enable to help you do that. So again, here's just a little bit of an example of different ways that you can use Lexi to help you complete your new year's resolutions. So my challenge to you is what is your new year's resolution? And how will you use Lexi to help you achieve that? And if you want to share that with me, please feel free to do so on Twitter. I'd love to see that. My Twitter handle is doctor Terry Fisher, DR, FISH, ER, and I can't wait to hear from you. All right, have fun. Good luck. Happy new year..

"Doc already wow unbelievable surpassed fast and furious. You are your fast and furious. nine nine producing just producing. Yeah that's fan then. Diesel was bad anyway. Yeah no he was listening to the spurs show. We talk about one of those. I mentioned the speed dating scene. I do want to point out that the speed dating just takes place at a building called speed and i. That's typically those things take place at bars or restaurants. This is a place called speed dating called speed data. How is the tuesday. Night crowd for speed. Not slow his threes and fours baby just trying their best speed data on a tuesday. Confirm one of the more this. This just caught me off guard. She says checkers is is the perfect board game. Like i get the nasa opinion. But that's a hot opinion. I mean that is a that is never heard. I've never heard a single soul. Sit there and say no what the best game of all time is the would the what makes it worse to me is. She says it's the best board game because it's easy but you still can basically kind of tell something about her strategy. But you can't like yours. One of the lakers just two colours jump not. There's not a lot is just. It's it's tough sledding When he finally decides that he is going to break the story that he is going to quit his job he comes to the tv station and he says all right ready to blow the whistle now and she goes all right. Let's get you prepped. And go that's not guys. Listen hey man. The news people see. I think people would cut in. If they had the source right there they would cut him for that once. You vetted beforehand to say the hormone. But how does she know what he what does he. Oh there's a good deal trust there. That's not a normal source. But i would have totally i. Didn't i think that you would get that out as i'm on board with get out quickly. I'm just saying he literally shows up and she's like yeah. Let's get to more than something not lot that that seems that seems like a big jump without checking sources checking like what does he actually no because she actually doesn't know what he knows he never actually shares that. She just knows that he canceled. That's ocean like what happened. Like that's all she knows. So that's an issue. Um was yeah. That's it in a great job. Things at the beginning of the movie did she pay for those baked. No stolen stolen but listen when you're good. You're good she's good for good for. Hey she were day. What is it the walking. Sure yet they. It takes place within a tv studio called city tv. Which is a very well known. Canadian states yes. Even try like nokia. Did they do they think where like we don't know about it. It was the wildest. I saw it. I did a double take. And i googled city tv to make sure that i wasn't making it up. It is just a canadian. Tv studio has her worst. Here's magicians do that. Her tears magicians and the student the tv station. Which you know. All friends and such labs exploited say yes to everything bringing the clowns magician unbelievable. They're the worst on board game. Fans around the country in world are offended by this movie to think that a board game connoisseur would play life out a board game. night is offensive and to say that checkers. It's the best game as you guys already mentioned is also offensive board dame fans hate us and also they do this whole bit about how. I'm so bad at small talk. Westall talk small talk says So bad a small talk. That was really good conversation. Like why do they think they're so small talk. I thought it was really good. I don't get it. I thought it was good. Small talk i. I thought it was definitely good. Small talk for sure small talk. That's what you got okay. The first line of this movie she comes into the coffee shop and the guys like you wanna red eye on us metal blonde. She's like no. I'm going to get these goods. And he says your order is my only constant in an unstable world and okay. You probably have some issues. I'm a little concerned. But it's okay. If you work at a coffee shop you only have one regular one person that you know their order. That's it everybody's changing did and they're one constant is constantly taking baked goods. That's right is is being a thief. That's their constant. So i just wanna get this straight about imperium bank. They sponsor each and every event at this winter festival individually they. They'd sponsor the polar plunge and the relay race and there's chili cook off. Why are they not just sponsoring the event too much money. What how this county nickel and then the adventures at the fast hold. Its bank bank dunkin. Let's talk craft burst. Burn money at that. One monsour for events get one free. That's right it is unreal. And then he's in there pitching to this bank board. Why should more because they're not supposed enough events and his goto is surveys. Show that confidence in our bank goes up after these events. What like what. What are you talking about so it was somebody out there going. I wasn't sure who to bank with. But then i did. The polar plunge and imperium bank feels like the call talking about like getting your name out there. And branding is one thing and one of these surveys. Are you getting out of the cold water. Like ma'am we're gonna get you a blanket. But i taught zone imperium. What's going on. There doesn't make any sense at all. These kids his nieces are a bit old for santa. It's uncomfortable and you're going to go to brand smiling right now because you know. Look we're going to look at whatever. These kids are ten years old. This is what i this is. I have it in my. What the hallmark. it's just. How old are these s. Things wanna say into into the mom. I'm not getting any sleep. Why are you kidding me sleeping through the night. I you can count the candles on the cake. And i think there are nine candles on the cake there nine or ten years old something like that Speaking of sleep this is her line. I rewound it so. Let's just unpack this quickly. If we could. I have two kids nothing but the promise of sleep sounds lame to me. Nothing but the so everything sounds nothing. The only thing that sounds lame to me is the pros. The promise sleep nothing but the promising sleep. She didn't say nothing about the promise asleep. Why would that make sense. Nothing nothing about asleep. I could go back and look again. But i'm pretty sure she said nothing. But that would make more sense. That would make more sense to the tape again tape. Don't lie said it for years. I wanna be clear when michael rady bothers the table next to him at this restaurant. He does not s anyone's new year's resolution. It's not a guess. No no one. He doesn't guess anyone's views resolution. He's like anybody trying to quit up a beverage or.

"Kid. I'm feeling now the feelings. I would have as a small child who's trying to prove i've grown up. I'm not a five year old. I'm six now. You don't have to baby me anymore. That's what i'm feeling. And that's what i'm reacting to. So i chose to adopt different perspective and that is rather than my mom is tricky mulic kid and she's calling upon me to make that it truly mlk. I chose to adopt another perspective. That is my mother is just being the way she is has nothing to do with me. She's just being a mom concerned about her adult of grownup kids thinking that their kids that they need care she's just being a mom hoping for their wellbeing not that she can affect it or change it. She's just hoping for her wellbeing and these are the words that she is express it. That's all it is. It's not that you're a kid. It's not like she's treating your five. It's not like she thinks you're helpless. She's just hoping for your wellbeing and who is that actually a nice kind of thing where someone beautiful thing. 'cause she's she's loving you need someone cares about you. They're really hoping you're okay. Yeah so when. I could adopt that different perspective. It wasn't an aggravation anymore. It was just the was just mom. She's just hoping okay. Thank you thanks mama. Totally fine totally safe. No harm here. i'm fine how are you doing it. didn't it literally didn't bug me anymore. When i could make that shift. So when i was married my husband was an acts of service guy and he used to like looking back as an adult. Now he really did a lot of things and he did a lot of really good things and he used to take care of everything like you took care of all the details. I was like a child. I didn't pay attention to any details. He did it all he did. All the work. And i couldn't and i was sitting there selfishly. Criticizing him for not giving me the attention insects and love that. I thought that i wanted. And i was so busy being in this critical space of neediness that i couldn't see that he was actually loving me tremendously because you would not put that much work into somebody unless you loved them and he was he was working and he was working he was doing and he was showing me. He loved me in the only way that he knew how i was too wrapped up in my criticism to actually feel it. And if i had simply shifted just a little bit. I would have felt this. I wouldn't have felt alone. I wouldn't have felt abandoned. I wouldn't have felt like critical and an unwanted and frustrated and on attracted to him because he wasn't giving me the kinds of things that i wanted. I would have been blown away by the love that he was actually giving me that. I was unable to receive. It's because in your mind. Love looked a certain way. And i'm not getting that thing that the way that love looked so i'm not feeling loved. Yeah yeah yeah at to bring that back to sexual new year's resolutions is. It's not uncommon for people to feel. I'm not getting sex. I don't feel loved when in fact you are loved. You're just not having a lot of sex right now and a lot of time. Sex is a dynamic that is a completely different dynamic than than love. Yeah totally different thing. You can love someone dearly and just absolutely adore them and not have sex with them. Totally different thing. Yeah so i would love to continue this discussion In terms of eliciting more sex but out for today. yeah to our listeners. Rewind this podcast. Go back to that. Exercise at fred did I i'm skeptical of that stuff. But i felt. I felt a shift just within those few minutes if it can do something for a cerebral guy like me where i can feel a shift and i believe that it can do something for you. Just allow us to be there. Don't try to think through what just have the experience. That's exactly what my instructions were in the beginning. It was participate. Don't think about this. Don't sit there disconnected and disassociated analyzing it just participate in it. And i don't find. Is that if you do the same thing with life and you participate in life instead of simply observing. You're going to have a lot more fun..

"You might be hearing me and thinking. Good god get to the point. You might be hearing me and thinking dude. You're so full of shit or you're listening to me in thinking. Hey this makes sense. I get this. You're speaking my language or some combination therein either. No i can't get inside your head. And that's the thing all change comes from within it starts inside your head and you have so much more ability to change your life than you realize. And that's the part where taking actions for change are so good so look if things are making you unhappy in your life right now. This is a great time to change. That's why people make new year's resolutions. It may be a cool artifice of the calendar that today is january one and this is the start of this brand new year but why not take advantage of it. There are lots of cycles where we can start anew. That's the whole idea of spring. Your birthday change is oftentimes associated with the new. And it's not necessarily something huge. It's just that you've taken the action and gone all right. I can change this so if there are things right now making you unhappy with your life you have this moment this impetus to go all right. I'm gonna make a change. I'm going to take this new year's action. And i'm getting up every morning and going to the damn jim by nine. Am or. i am going to really not eat anymore. Fried food this year that's choice. That's something you can do. These are actions you can take which are more powerful than resolutions and these will bring you something and it may bring you nothing. It may not work. That's the thing to consider here. Not all changes work nor do they always work out the way you'd like them to but if you don't make a choice if you make no decision you will get nowhere. You will change nothing and a lot of people. Forget that that's how it works. You might be afraid to take that action to make that change but if you let the fear win and you don't take that action and you make no change nothing changes. Nothing ventured nothing gained is totally true statement. Yes the converse is true. Nothing ventured nothing lost. But you've lost if you haven't ventured so i would actually argue that. No nothing ventured. Yeah you lost something. An opportunity and life is so full of potential and possibility you have so many opportunities no matter what your status no matter where you come from yes. There are limitations. I'm not going to deny that. There are people in straits that are going to make it very difficult to get out of the situation. They're in but so long as you're drawing breath so long as you live. You have choices. You have options. There are decisions that you can make for some people. This new year's their opportunity to try something completely new and different for some. This is about taking a new approach. The thing you were doing as what you want and desire to be doing but it's just not quite working so you can change your approach and try it a little differently. Take a new angle. Try something you didn't try before do something you didn't do before. That's the context. Were in here. Personally i've got a bunch of ongoing things. I'm working on almost entirely mentally which will impact the things. I need to be working on physically. This is something that for me has been an ongoing challenge. I am now keeping a journal. Not so much. Journalists list checklist every day where. I'm mark off the things. I put on my to do list. That i need to do daily because i am on my own..

Let's look at this. Twenty twenty was a giant learning experience for the whole damned world. Please please tell me. People learn stuff last year because we saw some of the most chaotic ludicrous experience as we could possibly have seen. I mean i'm not going to get into it off because it's not over much of it is still ongoing just because we flipped the calendar. It doesn't mean anything has changed just yet but how we start. Our new year is up to us and for a lot of people. the new year starts with resolutions. They have these ideas about this thing. They're going to do. I'm gonna start going to the gym every day. I'm going to read more. I am going to call that relative every tuesday. I am going to do this that or the other thing..

Not About Lumberjacks
"new year" Discussed on Not About Lumberjacks
"Or even more things. Just like this where i have nothing written. Not even bullet points. Where i just sit down in front of the mike and babble. I definitely be lying if i said. Twenty twenty didn't hurt me seeing that cycle of savings for my day job and then losing a job and seeing those savings. Go away whether it's due to a layoff or some kind of health emergency it's gotten old. It's funny when people talk about the movie up that beginning where everybody's like man. That's just so beautiful but so tragic. I mean that's almost my wife in me except were both still here. Fortunately every time the jar fills up it goes away if we wanted to have children health condition. I have ensures that we couldn't so many scenes in that beginning hit home but another aspect of that movie that hits home even though i'm not really fond of up his the thought that just sometimes everyday life has its own magic. While i was unemployed my wife. And i found all these new hiking trails. We came up with some cool ideas this year. In even though the whole thing with submitting a magic life actually hurt and why wouldn it. It seemed like this was going to be the year in now. It seems like i've gone through every option. And i'm coming to an end. If nothing happens with that book there are two more after it. And i'm not the kind of person who just bales on a project and goes to the next thing that might make some or might not. This is the story. I'm invested in so i'm going to write those other two novels no matter what maybe they get released here. Maybe they just end up in a drawer. I don't know. But every single time. I said i don't know about twenty twenty and even the future the two things that i'm sure about our that. My wife and i will always make it somehow. I mean it's it's just what we do. We've been doing that for twenty nine years and we always keep going in his. We've talked about twenty twenty one. Both of us have some good plans in for me. One of those things is the other thing. I can rely upon this show as i mentioned in the most recent behind the cut i plan to release eight episodes this year and by this year. I mean the november beginning of a new year for not about lumberjacks to november of twenty twenty one. But that still means six new episodes before thanksgiving next year.
