"Is your host mark schindler as always before guests are today. If you've not already please be sure to rate and review us over. An apple podcast. Of course check out our backlog. We have a lot of really great stuff as we're going through all the teams in the nba. Doing some some previews and getting a better idea of where everyone is as we head into the year I'm really sites today to be joined by andrew lopez from over at espn to talk about the new orleans. Pelicans one of my teams. That i Am i have no idea quite what to expect from them. Coming to the year but before we get into that andrew. How're you doing today man. I'm good i I think i agree with you at all. I don't know. I a lot of people don't know what to expect from this team going into the year and it's gonna be interesting to see exactly how how all this plays out. Yeah i mean definitely especially with You know getting into the bomb dropped us zion that zion had his His great start media they out. Yes yeah it's four minutes in the media day everything goes out the window. Yeah i mean what was your reaction when it happened. Because i mean that's the i'll never forget i was on Sort of similar thing. It's not not quite to the same extent. But i was on so i cover the pacers and i was on the media call when the not the day i think it was like two days after victory depot said. He wasn't going to play in the bible and the first question. That nate mcmillan gets asses outage you find out and he says the exact same way you guys all did and i was like oh shit. This is no but yeah. So what was your reaction to that I remember standing there because we had no indication of what was going to happen. I was just sitting there. And i remember thinking to myself. Do i take computer for these. I learned so. I can tweet a little bit faster record Had a little bit of road. And i remember just thinking all right. Well i guess. I'm writing a story right now during the of this press conference and trying to think i'll start doing. The mental math in my head of heart will is is this kind of fractured this kind of fracture. How many debts are pre summer league. That's that'll be two and a half months at three months before you start doing all these different things and it kinda throws off the game a little bit. Because they knew gra finishes. And you're supposed to ask you something. Yeah you know. So we're lock our. I mean it was kind of a a bomb being being dropped on you at at the right to start things but you say you start doing the math. And he started on a figure out where he is. Then when you hear okay. He's he's he's ready. He should be ready for opening day. Things you know help you process is a little bit easier than you gotta figure out a little bit of a time on that. Yeah most definitely and it's it's especially to looking at the way. The season starting out for new orleans a new coach which obviously that is very different than another extra really funny story I did a sports media conference and got to talk to alvin gentry. Time ended up being the day before he got fired I have some a question because it was like dealing with a lot of You know bad press just because the team had lost in the first round the plowing album like you know..

NBA Rumors: Pelicans Plan to Hire Former Sixer Willie Green as Head Coach

"Head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans. So David Griffin has his next man to lead Zion Williamson. Last year. It was Stan Van Gundy the year before that it was Alvin Gentry. It's just now going to be the third head coach that Zion Williamson is going to have his third year in the league. Now, when you look at Willie Green Clearly has an extensive basketball background was in Philly, the Hornets in New Orleans. Atlanta. Play with the Clippers was with Orlando as a player the last few years, though, because just because you're a former player doesn't mean that you're going to be a great coach. You want to see what experience? Yes. Sometimes guys have a lot of experience. Sometimes guys have no experience. Willie Green was on the Golden State Warriors staff 2016 2019. And Is on the sun staff, too. Currently So this is someone That has been around the league now for a while. And Yeah. I don't know how

"But i think if the pacers were trading savona sir asking for lot back the should i it for me. It would depend on. What's lined up for for stephen adams. I'm i'm not making any type of big commitment to start addressing hundred. I'm not trying to make any type of commitment into another big frankly like i'm tired of giving up acids for first centers In i would like investors in perimeter players are in wings. But i like the bonus a lot. And i think he'd be really good. Fit with zion but it really would depend on what they have lined up for atoms and but if if they had a legitimate trade leonard for adams where they're not attaching a pick for then sure i think lonzo signing trade lonzo kill a pick would be worth entertaining after all right well. This was awesome man. I really appreciate you taking the time Do you have anything you want to plug before you got here now. You guys can follow me at fear. "Malcolm brogdon is not getting traded. I would like the. I'll let you know that. I have to do a mail bag pod for any cornrows later today and i asked to let would you. Would you bet on that. Would that be your betting favorite. I would. I think it's more likely that that that big. It's traded than than brogdon. Does i really don't think he's gonna get traded. Just based on what i know and heard i don't that's fair i don't have any like like reporting or anything to put on it but i would be very solicited here to get aggregated man. Your man clutch voice graphic incoming hoops central. God dude. i'm so sick. Aggregation accounts whatever just rta at saint thing to the news. Breakers just rt. It it's it's not hard. You just hit the button. But they didn't ask me this. I'm gonna. I'm gonna ask you before before you wrap it up. What would it take to for the pelicans. Citrate for some bonus for the bonus. While on i mean the pacers want to be competitive right now. They're they're not interested in in taking any steps back. Kevin pritchard certainly is not given how this year is gone. I think they were expecting to be more competitive than that. Trading trading depot early on factor into that too. Obviously everything that happened with kerris You know this team is poised to to try to be a higher end playoff contender so second round. Plus the next couple of years. They have their entire. Starting lineup is is paid through the next three years other than tj. Who they're going to certainly prioritize I mean outside. I'm just looking at the pels roster right now outside of like Like maybe it's like lonzo in a picture to something around there lake. And even then i don't know about that like i think they would ask for brandon. Ingram right away they I think they would struggle to not say. Okay if you're if you're going to ask us for our Best player we're going to ask back for brandon ingram. I don't know if that that might end up being a non-starter I guess it depends. Like i learned this week too because i i wrote that nashi piece and i had a lot of a lot of people. I want a couple radio. Sponsor new orleans in a at people are not as high branding rooms. I thought that we're in new orleans. But i don't know like what what does that was that ring for you. Because that's i think that would be the starting place if if the patients are even asked about bonus.

"That's a lot of his. You know a lot of his shortcomings. Just come from abbadi development thing like with jackson but his even more so because he's nineteen years old and he's you know he's listed one seventy but he might even be one six you know. He's yes tiny in and he has. He has the waste ago when it comes to putting on weight But you're right. He gets after defensively gets over screens. He is really good at generating steals against It's really good So there's a lot to like about him. And i think what will i think he's going to be in the league for a very long time but i think what's gonna be sort of this swing Thing with him if he gets stronger and his offense takes a leap because like right now. He's not terribly efficient player because he's just unable to come to us. Yeah he's he has to settle for floaters which he has really good touch on. And i think he's midrange. Range game will get better. But you know he's just he's is not very good at finishing at the rim when he gets there and he's really Instill i think i think as he gets older and he gets more reps. He's going to get better at those things. I think as the roster gets better. He's going to get better at those things but from everything else could decision making passing intangibles all that he checks all the boxes. Yeah definitely. I've really enjoyed washington play in a. I think i would just say to anybody. Drafting this year. Draft guys from a nato. It seems like a good idea to me. i've i. I don't know if you saw the The alabama practice him went viral. That was a point. I love all my friends. All my friends were closer with drafts and stuff just like love. Nato's so check check. Check me on check on fire. He's actually sixty percent at the rim Which is pretty decent. I think for him. I mean considering a size in. Yeah i think we're we're what's happening is that he's taking a lot of those those Paint shots those. Non non does nonren- paint shots and Slaughters and he's not not comforted. While does so. I think he's like thirty three percent on shots through ten feet and twenty percent on shots when tennis sixteen feet. So it's it's this kind of mid range in between area. That is not come really well on. Which is i guess. I learned something new today. I thought he was better at those than news at the rim. But yeah you know. I mean if you sixty percent of the rim now. That's that's encouraging to me. I feel it's only gonna get better. Yeah yeah most definitely man. It's i agree. It's kind of funny looking at that stuff. It'd be like wow really that's that's it must be a transition think is i. Don't think that the numbers accurate in the half court but who doesn't like he doesn't take a ton of stuff at the reminder to was kind of like. Yeah but all right last thing. I want to close out on What are expectations are just things that you're kinda hoping to see more of as the year goes on you know we're we're in the stretch run now The pels are decently enough out of the lottery but also like they're in in the lottery but they're also not going to really fall further into it unless something catastrophic happens and they're really not trying to be in the lottery right now but they're still decent enough of a way out of being in a real plane Playing situation I mean what do you hope to see from the rest of.

"They weren't players that could utilize him minutes lettuce system as a as a roll man Or in any kind of those screening actions where he can dive and uses vertical right and so ever since they put zaylon as more of a ball handler. the units with him in jackson. I've really taken off from a net rating perspective and a car has been a part of that. It's well cairo's emergence in him. Being able to get jackson shots. But yes so. Like the the level of attention zion draws he recognizes that and jackson's usually open in the dunker spot in zion's the only person on the team has reliably figured out that jackson can go get the ball Over anybody so just put it up there. He's gonna go get it and then they'll be like frequent plays. Were bringing the ball to floor. Four guys are kind of keyed in on him jackson's chillan in the dunker spot and zainal just put. They're not even so like jackson code. Dunk jackson catching eleven. Easy layup right there at the rim. Come down with enough heavily up so And you're right. Nike has has figured that out as well. And you know and so. That's that's been a lot of fun to watch. Yeah definitely man and you mentioned too. I mean with kyra talked about kyrie yet. His developments been awesome as well. I mean like he's a small guard but he's pro. You might be the best point of attack defender on the roster other than najji like he's bringing a lot defensively that i've liked the shot. It's not like the percentages aren't great. But he's taking pretty difficult ones. What have you seen from cairo. That you've life. Because i really enjoying him. I actually would like to see more minutes from a moving forward for sure. But it's going to be tough of course with blood sweat on the roster still but what have you thought of him so far yes so he. His speed has translated immediately and it pops when it comes to him beating guys off the dribble. He's probably the most dynamic passer on the team is able to create passes and passing lanes that no other guard can't simply because he's so good at blowing by people on getting to different areas on the court He's really good at connecting to players together. Both with the ball in with himself like he'll dribble the ball or lane and get to a place where the defensively becomes leverage He's was what's really bad about him as his decision making he's a really low turnover guises like assist to turnover ratio. Like close to five to one right now Which is really impressive for a nineteen year old card In so that's really impressive. The the downsides with him have been he's really slide or frame. Oh yeah though so that that hurts him when it comes to finishing at the rim When it when it comes to get into the paint You know even even drawing fouls. He's his shootings. Been in been fine. Know he's shooting thirty five percent from three which is accessible. i think he can shoot better As as his legs as he gets stronger..

"But i think we're talking about the the ewing theory bullshit which i also don't don't really like but it just shows you new levels of operating late when when nikiel plays was seven games it's not just against crappy teams. I mean they go for three playing. I think denver twice the lakers I want say pre lebron injury Like it's it's not just fake wins like they're doing things in you're seeing okay. Well this is what happens when you surround zion with with players who can do the they beat. Denver dallas those the game when they came from behind you in boston to like boston yup yet. So there's there's a lot of there's a good wind profiler yeah but Yeah so art. Next thing to a guy who i last year i wasn't i wasn't in pressuring thing. I just was super raw is still kind raw this year. But jackson hayes is really started to figure some things out and i really. I like where you out with jackson because now he's starting to take some corner threes less recently but he had a. He had a stretch where he took Took a three every game for almost a week. And you hit your couple. He's got like decent form. Is solid free throw shooter. It's not like end all be all or anything but he's just you can show. I mean you can see us adding things to his game. He looks a little bit. More comfortable defensively And his his abilities has allowed threat and into just collapse from the dunker spots. Who has been huge yes. Oh he's shooting. Forty two percent forty two point nine percent from three this year. So it's safe to say he's the next dirk and i'm not gonna hear anything otherwise y'all rookie should have made the yeah. The rising stars challenge them. That way you wouldn't have had to yell at himself but he of i. I'm a big jackson. And so i've been on his island for a very long time. And he's he's super robert wright He hasn't filled out his body completely. Yet there's long way for him to go in the body development perspective which i think will also intern go along way for him defensively because of his big issues right now. Defensively is foul trouble. And so i thirty six minutes. He's he's down from last year's last year he was five point four fouls per thirty six minutes. Which is absurd But now he's down to four point three. Which is you. you can play a whole game if you play at that rate but it's still not good right you don't wanna be sending opponents of the line all that frequently and that's directly related to him just not being filled out his his core strength is is like strength all of that so like bigger guys can push him around a little bit in a stronger guards can drive right into his body and Make him be not vertical and draw the foul. So that's where he is. I think from an awareness standpoint. He is taking a leap this season. he started off the season just generally clueless. And you're like man this. This looks rough lake. Not sure there's a future for him in the league you know It was it was at that point. Like okay maybe. He needs to go to the g. league you'll be. We'll talk about him going back to college Jokingly of course and in there was a period where they benched him for like a week two weeks something like that. They played billy..

"Been really effective in the stretch where lonzo was hurt and akilah starting in his body basically playing the lonzo role and and he was adding a lot to the team. At that point you know he. He had You know he averaged. Let me let me see up right now. For the seven stars was nineteen five three assists Forty four percent of the field forty percent from three nine attempts a game. Like the biggest thing like you're mentioning to i mean lonzo just does not. I mean he. He will drive but he doesn't look to finish So it's just kind of like it's not really getting. The full effect of their drive in kiel does that so it does. it provides. almost. I don't wanna like psalm. Reductive loud was probably a better player. Balance right now but like the cus- drives bring a more value than than lonzo's doing some regards. I feel like when i'm watching. You're you're right will heaton akil. What he does is. He adds a level of unpredictability till the offense offenses zion's ions aren't ingram ingram's iron ingram and then catch and shoot lonzo. Which okay if you close down lonzo. No-one scared of what he's gonna do if you close out on him right within the keel. You close out on him. He puts the ball on the floor and no one has any idea what he's going to do. And that's what makes him dangerous. Ican go drive and finished. She can go Pull up for a mid range shot. He was really effective for mid range. this year i forget what the stats are. But you know he's been really effective for mid range this year especially during those starts You know he can. He can sling alive. Dribble lefty pass to the the opposite corner. He can do a lot of things that add a level of Dynamism to the pelicans offense that make it. Just give it the edge. You know like the the bucks you're people talk about how it was janas as middleton and didn't really have much beyond that in Website was on the team and they went to add drew holiday. Who adds that other layer of like okay. This is like unpredictability. I'm not saying akila's anywhere near holiday But it's it's a similar concept that he he adds that layer of like okay. We don't know what this guy's gonna do. He's dangerous Basically all spots on the floor if he has the ball. And that's just another guy the defense s account for and it makes everyone else's job easier. Yeah yeah one hundred percent. And i'm interested to see how he comes back when he does come back from injury because i was really enjoying washington play He's he's a really interesting player. Like i know you shave causing They don't have similar games. They have a similar builds in the way that they they drivers is a little bit somewhere. It's just the. I don't know he's a fun player. Archetype the other thing. I wanted to add before i before you move on from him is that he competes defense. Yeah oh his defense was nice. He competes in he like he fights over screens he gets into people in he is a deflection god and so I think he might lead the league in the flex for thirty six minutes. Or he's like top five or something like that and he just gets his hands in on a lot of balls Both in the passing lane both on ball and so he's he's very good at generating events. We talk about lonzo being event generator and and nikila just on another level when it comes to that. Yeah no definitely it. He's he's really started to excel there Which is another nice thing. And it's it's kind of wild to because again. I hate i. I hate bill simmons So i hate having to make comparison..

"Is rearranging chairs on the titanic. But like he will rather play. Lineups that feature jackson hayes and stephen adams together than he will play a lineup. That is small. You know that without a center on on the on the court which is a little bit crazy to me he because there's oftentimes Especially in these late game situations where the pelicans need points and their defenses hasn't been able to stop anyone anyway. So i i just don't understand the logic where you know. Your your defense has been terrible. All season long In sometimes you know at the end of the game situations teams are just completely leaving a guy like atoms and zone. Whatever so why. Don't you go smaller and gives eye on a little bit more room to operate and put up some points. Because this team doesn't take a lot of threes Again as a personnel issue. They don't take a lot of threes and it's difficult to really come back If you're down if you don't take a lot of threes and so just find ways juice up the offense. And i think stand has been so neurotic about the defense and the defense being bad that he hasn't given care attention to the offense in you know i think maybe that's part of their internal plan because stand is a is a four year project where he's meant to be a teacher and teach them things the right way to teach him to Teach them to build the correct habits. That's what he was brought in to do in that starts on defensive end because that is where your franchise players struggle the most and so maybe from their perspective like okay. Fine they'll put up points. They'll find a way to score right now. We wanna focus on them being good defensively period So they built good defensive habits. And then we'll you'll will will install the offense maybe next year whatever Again like the offense has been bat right. Who's as you mentioned. They had a two month stretch with the best offense in the league. There's still a top ten offense. They're good offensive team. It's just that there are moments where they desperately need points quarter. Yeah right you know when when teams lock in and in its. He's just like nope. I don't wanna go small and like i'm like okay. I i don. I don't understand what the but outside of that you know. I think he's been largely fine..

"He's he's improved you know. He's made more strides brandon. Ingram has during their tenures. With the pelicans but he's still not good he's not he's not changing the the the pelicans join trajectory on the defensive. And so if you're trying to build a good team around the defensively and you fail will what does that mean for. The future of that duo and and i don't know if it's it's fair to say like this duo can work out in the future or not. I don't know if we're quite there yet. But this is yet another data point that it's really really hard to build a good defensive team around them right now and and here's where i will now sort of absolve them a little bit. I'm not gonna completely right. But it's not entirely air fault. So eric bledsoe Former first team all defensive player has been pretty terrible On both astor's just on both ends. He just has not been good in defensively especially defensively. Maybe it's because he doesn't have janas and broken chris behind him to where he knew he can gamble and generate events. Whatever the case is you know for the longest time in. It's still kind of happening. The pelicans would play a team that had athletic or talented. Back court and that court would go off for forty points a piece you know something ridiculous in inherit bledsoe would just offer no resistance whatsoever and frankly you know he's. He's appeared spaced out at times. So he e whatever he is. I don't know if it's just one of those situations. Km on a bad team. I don't really wanna put forth the effort whether he's a regressed a little bit athletically. I do think that that's contributing to it. I don't know how much you can never tell. Likewise nicotine left the the hornets in the looks. Pretty solid on the clippers right You can never really tell how much of of ah veges dogging it on a bad team but whatever it is he's been terrible Lonzo ball has.

"Always raises the stakes in of course given some craziness the way that i don't wanna just like blankets even say media but like talking head media will will bring up stuff and say all was i on to new york to four years. When that's even a possible thing like you know that it kinda expedites things in general. Yes so. you're right that the pelicans now have a clear idea that this guy is already a top. What fifteen twenty player. I mean at least top twenty player in the league. You know he's he's he's approaching those upper echelon of players very rapidly and they don't have this sort of time which is a good thing you don't want to wait for five years to figure out if you have a star on your hands you figured out your to your in the driver's seat to go ahead and go put a good roster around me know the path forward is very clear. You have this future. Mvp level caliber player in. You have all of these draft assets and he's still on his rookie deal so his far out producing what he costs And so you have all this freedom in assets to go be aggressive and in put a good team around him and be as good as you can with him for as long as you have. You're not going to be able to predict the future. I think it's impossible like you can do everything right and have a winning record and make the finals and stars still want to leave. You know we've seen it for whatever reason they'll still want to leave. Your your goal should be to put the best product out there as possible in kind of enjoy the greatness while you can cause i. I just don't think you're you're going to be able to change the mind of someone who who wants to be somewhere else and we don't know that person are not yet it's impossible to twelve twenty years old and i'm not sure how old you are but like i was a complete different person when i was twenty than than i am now. In people grow people change in either. They are allowed to do that. They're allowed to want things that are best for themselves so the pelicans really can't wait with from a from a position of fear or no position of gosh..

"Justice do his level of play justice especially at twenty years old him being able to generate as many rim attempts as he does per game which i think is the most sense shack and be as efficient as he is despite a an ill suited roster for him. Being honest i mean. Look like stephen adams and eric bledsoe are not creating spacing for him. there there. Aren't that many shooters on the team. And there aren't that many high level offensive creators on the team either so despite all of those despite playing a slow paced half court oriented system. He's getting whatever he wants like. No one is stopping him. And it's it's a layup with his dominant hand almost every single time and that that selling short because he's he's really really good at going right when he needs to and he's really really good at grabbing offensive rebounds and and Putting back as you mentioned he can push in transition. He can do a lot of offensive things as passing has taken quite jump ever since they've put the ball in his hands a little more so yeah he's been absolutely phenomenal in on the defensive side. He was awful to start the season. Like just what it move. He would swipe at the ball Just be completely asleep on cuts. In some of those easy things have really disappeared. So he's trying. He's putting in effort. He hit his motors a lot. Better than what it was. And i think it's directly related to conditioning and as the season's gone on is conditionings gotten higher. And i think he's quietly worked himself up to a level where he's not a liability on that end night in night out even though the pelicans defenses disastrous as a whole and he'd certainly contributes to that. I think you know if you were plotting him on a better defensive team he would hold his own. Any wouldn't be killing you. Yeah no i totally agree with that. And i think i've gotten I don't. I always saying frustrated. But i have gotten frustrated because when people you know i'm like okay well you. Maybe you're not watching. What's going on because i've had people bring to me. Well you know. I just don't understand how you can build around on her. Have zion out there. With how bad of a defender is like well. Okay what we got to look at context. You're like stephen adams is not stephen. A five years ago eric. Bledsoe is not eric bledsoe. One year ago Lonzo has not been as good defensively as it was last year Even like i i do think. His defense got over hyped overall just the whole roster has been kind of rough but before we even talked about the defense like you mentioned the passing with with zion. I think what was most exciting to watch and also unfortunate just the way that it work. That was weird. Everything with jj redick. But i mean thousand one of my favorite developments. That was starting to happen. They were starting to run some really good two man game between him and and zion. And of course you know..

Get your feedback on any questions. Comments less knows well and of course read us over peru who've dot org so i am really psyched today. Someone who. Yeah definitely man. I so took two people listening. If you're not aware. I think burglary shots does give it away Shemit covers the pelicans and is up in and around new orleans. And you know this season has been very different for a multitude of reasons for for for every team feels like. But this pels team i think is pretty squarely i mean. Would you say it's been a disappointment. So far twenty seven thirty four Given where or how do you view the season. So far yeah. It's a very complex question right because it for it to be a disappointment or a success or anything in between it kind of has to go back to what the expectations were prior to the season. Starting and i think a lot of a lot of people around the league on think a lot of pelicans writers and fans kind of had the pelicans outside of the playoffs. Too big and so the expectation wasn't that they would be good however in the fashion that they have reached that outcome of being just outside. The playoffs has been disappointing because along the way they've discovered. Just how good. Zion williamson is Brandon ingram is also an all star caliber player. And so when you look at some of the pieces around this team especially the top. Two players in bringing in the vets like stephen adams an eric bledsoe we talk about. I'm sure later In hiring a veteran coach in st as damning gundy they should have been better than they are and they shouldn't have blown as many leads as they did which has been. I think emblematic of the season. Where the. Pelicans are phenomenal team. In the first forty five minutes of the game and in the last three minutes they turned into a bunch of preschoolers. Who don't know how to dribble shoot defend due to anything..

Redick: Pels, Griffin didn't honor word with trade

"Jj redick longtime veteran fifteen years in the leak. Good player not great good. Though he requested a trade from new orleans pelicans in november and asked them to send them somewhere one he was up. You know not upset but hey drew's gone through holiday. That was a big part of why i came here. And you know. I would like to be close to my family in brooklyn close enough where i can go see him on off days things like that. They told him. Bet you got it. And of course they trade him to dallas so he's upset because he says they didn't keep their word. Here's jj reading on his own podcast. My understanding all along was that. I was going to get a buy out. And if i was going to be traded it was going to be to a team in the northeast where i was closer to home and i'd be able to see my family for the last two or three months of the season obvious that didn't happen. I don't think you're gonna get honesty from that front office. Just objectively speaking. I don't that's not an opinion. i just don't think you're going to get that. But i think i was a little naive in thinking that because i was in year fifteen and you know i had at least attempt to do things right throughout my career and i honored my end of the bargain but in terms of this front office. Yeah i mean. It's it's not something where i would expect. Certainly the agents that that worked on this with me to ever to ever trust that front office again.

"As well. But let us discuss. Everyone loves playing the winners and losers game, But I do it all differently. I do well differently here. I have as a teacher. I have a report card book. I'd like to give report cards. Also what grades? He was the question. What grade? Did you give out the key trades in the MBA? Now there's on. Lee won a plus trade at the deadline. There's only one trade here that rises to the A plus level, and that's the Clippers. The Clippers get an A plus the bulls get I'm I give the Bulls of B. For their trade, the heat and the Celtics. I'm going. See, I'm going to see on that. And I'm gonna be the devil's advocate guy with the Nuggets. I'm not like the mainstream basketball media was not overly impressed with the Nuggets trace. I'll give that a D, and there's a bunch of APS. Better storing the losing locker room, the Orlando Magic Houston Rockets, New Orleans pelicans, the Toronto wrapped oars, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. All get f C F F F F F F for you and half for you. And As for you, you in the back, you failed also. At that. Beth! Beth! Beth! Beth Beth. All right, So my thoughts on this You've got Dr Doritos and dunce cap the three days and we will tie all of these things together in an adequate. Adequate valor monologue. Now a the N betrayed deadline I will concede lived up actually exceeded my very low expectations. One of the great things about being a cynic and a skeptic. When you have low expectations. Occasionally, it doesn't take much to impress you. It doesn't happen very often. So let's enjoy it, and we're gonna roll up our Proverbial sleeves here and and get the worst. We'll start out with the on Lee, a trader today the people's team making the trade with the Atlanta Hawks, and it seemed to the uneducated basketball fan. Like a rather an Oculus deal. At first glance, the Clippers sending sweet Lou Sweet Lou Williams. Great six man back in his prime and some meaningless second round picks to the A. T. What's going on with the New Orleans Pelicans?

"This year's deputy f team the new orleans pelicans. I don't know what baker this team you can catch them on any given night and it's a completely different experience than the last night. I don't know if the players make sense together. Actually i'm pretty sure they don't. I don't really know what the overall philosophy is. I don't know if they're trying to be a playoff team if they're trying to be rebuilding. I'm just constantly confused and there are some optimism because they want a couple of games around people here they go here. Zion and then they get killed last night by the bulls and have one hundred thousand breakdowns. And i guess my first question to you is the pelicans what the fuck you. How many exclamation points can we tack onto that. Wt fd think. But i was hoping you could answer this question. Because i think you're spot on in that it's so much depends your view of this team on when you catch them even just like what stage in the season. You caught them because for a minute. It looked like they were going to live up to their personnel and be a tough minded offensive team. Scrounging out offensive rebounds to get points and just kinda struggling on that in because they're spacing issues the script has completely flipped. And now this is all of a sudden very competent offense. I think park has really driven by brandon. Ingram is i ion williamson. They're making that part of it work but the defense. Jesus christ i mean it is. There is inconsistent defensively as really any team out there. Yeah i would say other than brooklyn. It's the team that's most likely to give up one hundred forty on any given night to any team. That knows what they're doing. I so if you actually look at their stats and you haven't been watching that much and you look at the stats and you look at williamson in ingram and all right. Those guys are having good years pretty efficient. And then you look at lonzo and you look at bledsoe. Lonzo shoot thirty seven percent from three so she and forty percent so going into the season like well. Their guards can't shoot. They're not going to be able to have enough space. Well their guards are actually shooting. Okay but then. When i watch everybody together. I don't have a five-man line-up that i liked like yesterday. They're playing Kyra lewis with He he got a little more run and he's really interesting. Rookies really fast. He's little darren foxy and gave them an energy that i was like. Well maybe this. Maybe i would like this version of the pelicans more. If fast you know now unleash sign a little bed. Go up and down a little bit more. But i still don't know who the other two teammates would be with cairo. Lewis design and branding. And i guess the fundamental question for me is do zion and brandon. Ingram makes sense together on a team. That's actually trying to win the title. I think they make sense on offense but the question was i on really broadly. As who are you going to put the five that's gonna make up for all. He doesn't do defensively right now. That's always been my issue with the idea of playing small and we are putting him at the five his rotations is. Aren't there really the pelicans as a team. If i were an opposing coach. I would say this is a team. We can beat him rotation every they are. Pass away from defensive breakdown every time out on the floor and keep moving the ball. You keep doing what you're supposed to do they will they will mess up in a whether it's undersized guy in the corner doesn't quite rotate over all the way. Jj radic or josh. Hart they try hard. They do what they can. But they're not equipped to be helped rotation defenders. If a guy like zion isn't going to be one so i mean i'm i'm kinda bullish on the anger rooms ion depot in general but i am really struggling to see how you put together those lineups. I can see how they kind of got into this conundrum where they clearly wanted to have some veterans early. Some veterans fell into their lap in terms of what was available and trying to get some pics and make their other moves but long term. It's a weird team to build with. And then you get lonzo into this conversation to and what they want to do with him. It's it's kind of messy.

I guess three years or so have been doing gaming work under the cut and sew name and it wasn't until recently that we spurred us ourselves ourselves down and we're like we can't be an industry agnostic agency and reach our full potential in the space because the gaming industry is too protective. Is you really treat those two categories differently when a brand walks in the door. And do you agree that maybe this differentiation is something that should go away. I think we treat them differently. And the reason we treat them differently because in my opinion you know the gaming consumer is a ruthless one right and if you if you come at them in an authentic way in a way that doesn't understand how they speak their language the emotes they use and you don't speak to them in a way that likes to be spoken they'll write you off forever. "Matt for our for our listeners and our viewers. Could you tell our audience who hasn't heard of you. That'd be surprised but who maybe doesn't know your background how you got into sports. What you're working on today. Some of the things. I talked about maybe Would love to get sort of the man. Hillman story yeah absolutely. I'll spare you too much. But i I launched a full service marketing agency. That was completely outside of these sports. Space called cut and so Coming up on three years ago now so is in january. Two thousand eighteen with two partners. The three of us sort of just felt like we really unique But also diverse skill sets between Done a ton of work in sports and entertainment space. My two partners were rebound florida at a tech startup that became sort of a case. Study for consumer marketing. It was called jack. Blew up on college campuses. They were the minds behind a lot of that. And so the three of us just kind of linked up and realized that we wanted to to build something together and we had all been doing some consulting on the side and realized that an agency model was really really. Good way for us to be able to you. Know it's not like one. Plus one plus one equals. You know nine right. It's not three so We put our heads together and started to build this business. You know it's a service based business Work with companies big and small and help them help them reach a younger More culturally aware demographic that businesses called cut and so again started it almost three years ago and you know where gaming sort of came into the picture is through our work cut and so will one gaming as as ubiquitous at this point right at it is. It is so far transcended. It's it's it's individual industry in seeping into everything that we know and so If you do anything in the world of sports entertainment or music or it's really hard to gaming wasn't always like that but We were doing a lot of work with with athletes Who were really really passionate. NBA Mock Draft 3.0

"And we are back talking two thousand twenty mock draft three point o our last mock draft of the year. It's draft day draft morning. What better to unwrap and a mock draft on draft morning. it's the second round. Now now's the time to confess. I'm really terrible at projecting second rounds like you know my hit rate and some drafts has been like one two three picks in the second round. It's it's so hard to keep track of the first round the wheels to sort of come off and these picks happened like every two minutes. I it's hard to really keep track. I did my best. I project where. I think particular players can go. You definitely don't really get deep into this when you're talking the nba scouts in executives about what they're going to do in the second round. They're still trying to figure out the first round as well. So i've tried to find some fits there so this is reported more chad ford speculation. Here about what's happening. The second round starts with the dallas mavericks this pick via the warriors taking malachi. Flynn the san diego state. Junior point guard One of the guys that frankly could go ten spots higher in the draft. I actually really love malachi flynn. There's kind of a lot of point guards kind of later in the first round which may push him out a little bit. But i actually think he's the guy who could step in play right away. I would actually love him in dallas. I think that'd be great. Pick for dallas at thirty one at thirty two. The charlotte hornets are on the board. They're getting this pick via the cavs. Paul read the sophomore forward center out of depaul. Have them going thirty two. This is john. Hollinger's been super high on all year. I think he's another guy who can guard positions on the floor. I really like him. Actually think he brings some stuff offensively as well. I personally like him. Better than precious. I'm right now. Could turn out to be a terrible take. But it's kind of what i think and i definitely think he could be an excellent fit. I'm in charlotte. Especially if they end up with lamelo ball and they're gonna need to add a defensive big man. As part of that package at thirty-three the minnesota timberwolves around the board. This'll be the third pick because they have to. First round picks. Tillman the junior power forward at michigan state. Everybody loves this kid. He's he's one of these guys like high floor. Low ceiling. just does his work every day. Great rebound or plays hard. I'm ken defend going. Bring be a great locker room guy is gonna find some rotation that somewhere I like him in minnesota on a team. That is trying to go forward. I think he actually adds a bit of a veteran presence to the locker room. At thirty four the philadelphia seventy sixers are on the clock. That get this. Pick via the hawks. Isaiah joe the arkansas shooting guard who is one of the best shooters in this draft. Crazy range. High volume of three point shots philadelphia. Always in need shooters. When you're going to be playing. Ben simmons on this team he certainly constructs the floor. And i'd like isaiah joe there them at thirty five the sacramento kings Via the pistons. Dan dotson to kansas sophomore guard. Who is one of the quickest players in the draft. He's an elite score excels off the getting to the basket not a great shooter a bit undersized for his position not really a point guard that's why he slides a few spots higher but could be instant offense off the bench for sacrimento at thirty five at thirty six the philadelphia seventy sixers back on the clock this time via that pick from the mix jordan aura the louisville junior who also is one of the better shooters in this draft. He has good size vers position. Good length i'm not sure exactly what else he brings to the table besides shooting but again i'm just loading philly up i with shooters at the moment at thirty seven. The washington wizards are on the board. They get this pick via the chicago. Bulls tyler bay the junior ford out of colorado who is one of the best athletes in the strath super explosive. Really hard worker on the defensive end still just kinda coming along on the offensive. And then i think that's been a concern. He's he's one of those guys that might be a little bit of a twitter. Not sure exactly what position he plays in the pros that causes him to slide. A few picks in this draft think this is still really value. and by the way when. We're talking about a lot of these guys dotson. Tillman for example malachi flan. These guys could all end up in the first round as well. Just have them the second thirty eight new york knicks via the hornets janis ramsey. The texas tech freshman guard again volume score can shoot it a little bit We're just loading the knicks up now with backward guys that can score the basketball. I'm not sure who's going to defend in new york. But he's an intriguing prospect. He's only nineteen years old. And i certainly there's upside there with the thirtieth pick in the draft at thirty nine the new orleans. Pelicans selecting this pick for the wizards. Daniela touro the minnesota sophomore center. Who had a really really strong summer season one of the more improved players in the country very skilled at big man. I'm great size. Adding just bore skill in size to this pelicans roster i'm at the moment If you remember earlier jalen smith. I'm selected at thirteen at forty. The grizzlies are on the board. This pick via the silence. This is the first pick that the grizzlies have been able to make in the twenty twenty. Nba draft a doco as a bouquet. The kansas center. Big guy seven. Seven wingspan seven footer. Really good athlete actually just dominant player in the pain. Terrible free throw. Shooter doesn't really do anything facing the basket. But when you have that size and length and athleticism. I think you get something done in. The and kind of reminds me deondraye jordan. A little bit and a little bit surprised. He doesn't go higher. I get there seems to be a penalty on the big minner plane or pain. Right now in the draft at forty one san antonio spurs back on the on the board yama dr the israeli guard nineteen year old for hop. Well tel-aviv and you know. He's such an intriguing prospect because he plays his butt off. His incredible energy is just making a difference when he's out there but he's not really a point guard. He's kind of more of a two guard in a point guards body. He's not like a great shooter. I'm athletically he's actually not bad at all but that lack of a jump shot kinda undersized i position that makes him more of a second round prospect at he absolutely wants to leave israel and come to the nba. And if it's the g. league next year and so he could be an interesting prospect for san antonio developed down the road

How Will Stan Van Gundy Fit With the Pelicans?

"Was a few weeks ago in the ringer NBA show that at the very tail end of the show I recall you saying. Keep an eye out for Stan van Gundy and New Orleans and since we last spoke That came to fruition Stan Van Gundy was hired by David Griffin and the New Orleans Pelicans I think when this all started with the pelicans ouster of Alvin gentry. Through the. Face Tyler had a former relationship with David. Griffin, we talk about my Tony possibly because he had a former relationship via the Phoenix Suns with David Griffin but they do land on Stan van, Gundy as their next head coach when you saw that news come across the wire, would you think great I'm happy I think he could bring some accountability to the team in terms of how much they need it on the defensive end of the floor they were horrific. On defense this season in San Andy. Of course, infamously famously I'm not sure once said build an effing wall and that the Pelicans need to do and I look forward to see what he can do now that he's back in the NBA but by the way like he failed in Detroit because he was coach. Angie 'em now he's just a coach right and he was always a good coach. He was good basketball coach and it was one of those cautionary tales of. It is two different skill sets number one it also in many cases can be two different motivations right if I am if I am the general manager and the coach now let's say I make a poor signing or a poor usage of money will sometimes I may want to use that guy to prove that I was right about this guy right and I know that you Still get into that with with a front offices and coaches anyway, right in in everybody wants to be responsible everybody wants to be right about the move they made. But when you then you're not doing the scouting of every other team on a regular basis, I know you have scouts you're certainly not doing that with college, but it's just a very hard job to do twofold and. Another cautionary tale of taking that over I mean everybody wants that power but I think we've seen two of these guys. Now fact three of these guys. Now, all of which I think you would say were subpar to very below average in that role but. We respect them as guys that are on the sidelines as basketball coaches. That is their expertise in that is doc rivers who took on that role Tom Thibodeau who took on that role and Stan Van Gundy who took on that role and yet got hired as coaches though it didn't go well at their last stops. I mean doc better than the other two but we thought. Hires because these guys are good basketball coaches who were miscast trying to run everything for sure absolutely and ultimately it's another good opportunity for him when New Orleans area there even though they have Zion, they have ingram granted these a restricted free agent. He'll likely back matched any offer sheet or whatever This is still sort of A. Team right now that can go in many different directions depending on how David Griffin wants to build it out and I look forward to seeing the ways in which Van Gundy, Utilize Zion and the ways in which he tries to get him going off because remember you know before all the three point shooting, we've seen the last ten years or so that has. Exploded with the warriors and the rockets and all these teams shooting lot of threes, the magic, Dwight Howard at center and four shooters around him in the late two thousands with anti head coach and they went to a finals. We're going to be lost to Kobe and the Lakers The had some good run they some really strong teams and in with Williamson. With the New Orleans Pelicans, I know they want to add another they don't want to go like all small Wall. With Zion at the five all the time it's it's just went to work but I, think van Gundy's pasts and what he could do now with this roster, it's kind of exciting to think about the possibilities with the different ways in which they can use ion but most importantly though and again, this is like with all the coaching hires we talk about I am more interested in the personnel changes who they draft, who do they try to trade for? Who Do they try to sign I am WHO's coaching the team, but you know I'm excited to see if they're able to get. Zion, going and creative ways that they weren't able to do as much during the season despite his success he posted up a lot man I. WanNa see some more pick and roll with Zion I wanNA see some more creativity with him, handling the ball and running pick and roll, and that will largely come from other personnel changes that come to the roster that allow that to happen. But Hey, man SVG had success with some different types of teams in the past and I look forward to seeing what he can do here with him, and that team has a good roster they under performed badly. Made sometimes teams underperformed because you look at their roster and you go man aol have the goods like that team underperformed I. Think so too. I think of course it I mean look I mean Lonzo I think Lonzo hit one shot in the bubble well, even though they're young that defense was bad even though they had good individual defenders, they've jrue holiday one of the best perimeter guard defenders, Ingraham and Lonzo. They were good defenders of the Lakers. They were the last two years. They were good. They were not good defenders last season with New Orleans. And Zion I, mean he was horrific. He was so bad on defense. It was it was really sad to watch. This is the guy who is blocking three point shots closing out from the opposite side of the paint at Duke just a year prior, which is why people wonder how much of it was fatigue coming back but season how much of it was the injury limiting him how much of it was effort I? Don't know I don't know what it was but regardless. He stunk on defense, and all of this needs to change next season for this team to be anything that have any chance of actually getting into the playoffs it can't be all

Orlando Magic's Jonathan Isaac explains why he didn't take knee or wear Black Lives Matter shirt Friday

"We had an incredible opening weekend of games name a star level player that player delivered at least once if not twice over the first three or four nights of the NBA's restart here in Orlando, we had crazy comeback wins. By the Houston Rockets, we had a dominant performance by. Jaanus over some little pesky pip squeak team from New England I forget who they might be. We got Marcus smart got fined for trying to work the officials. We've got storylines upon story lines. The clippers bounce back from their loss to the Lakers. Looking excellent and just throttling the New Orleans Pelicans. There's so many different directions that we can go Michael that I decided. Here's what we're GONNA do opening weekend heaters we're GONNA have just open ended questions are we're going to ping pong back and forth you give me your answers I'm going to give you my answers to these questions and try to cover as much ground as possible before we get there though I do want to double back quickly on the national anthem demonstrations that we touched on last episode, we got so many thoughtful emails from various members of the open floor globe on this subject, but I think there was a major development after we spoke on Friday. and. That involve Jonathan Isaac Meyers. Leonard Gregg Popovich Becky Hammon and one of the NBA referees all deciding to not kneel to not really participate in what had been in unified demonstration on Thursday. All of those people who chose to stand were obviously doing it on principle and they were doing it knowing there was going to be a lot of attention their direction. Now, if you look at Popovich amend the referee essentially, they were trying to just say, Hey, I support the the Social Justice Movement it's it's a private or personal decision for the referee said look I it's important to me to stand Meyers Leonard made a similar comment. Essentially. Saying that his brothers military service in the in the military service of close people in his life led him to WanNa stand to salute the flag. But within Isaac was a slightly different case and he actually used this entire demonstration opportunity to almost have a one man demonstration of his own. In his belief, the idea of the black lives matters movement quote unquote doesn't go hand in hand with supporting black lives. He also said that you know we shouldn't be necessarily judging things solely based on skin color that we should be trying to live a life basically you know in God's mold and try to live up to his standard, and that Jesus Christ was his personal savior and and that he wanted everyone to focus on that. Aspect of of living rather than the particular issue that was being brought forward with the black lives matter movement by the players he didn't really get any major pushback. Within the NBA Community people respected his right to make a stand. He actually not only did he stand during the national anthem? He didn't wear a black lives matter t shirt which many people notice because he was essentially the only player not to do that his whole personal story Michael took a crazy twist over the weekend and sad twist when he wound up tearing his ACL injury that's going to end his time here in Orlando obviously but also could cost him all of next season. So now talk about a whirlwind seventy, two hours for player who generated millions of us with his comments about the protests. I'm curious. Let's start with Jonathan Isaac. What did you make of his decision? After we've seen things settle in the last couple of days You know maybe it doesn't seem quite as Eye Opening as it did at that moment, but I'll admit I was I was surprised to see given the buy in from everybody on opening night. Right, I mean I just WanNa Start and say that it it really really is a bummer to see anyone get injured but particularly is ICK who was already on restriction he was already playing with a humongous brace on his leg from a previous injury that cost him a majority of this regular season before it was suspended. So I just I feel for him greatly. I I think generally speaking. The coverage of who stands in who sits I mean we talked about this heading in anticipated it I. Think I think the coverage is generally besides the point and it doesn't really get the point I feel like people are using. This as an opportunity to shame those who are standing in a little bit I mean Meyers Leonard. said, he couldn't sleep before he made the decision to stand and that's just like not. The whole focus or the point here right like. You can obviously Support Black lives and also stand for the national anthem. It is a symbolic gesture that is what it is in the case of Isaac. I really had a difficult time understanding even what his message was until you interpreted it the way that you did I mean I watched the clip of Him Multiple Times survey there I'm GonNa just GonNa read what he said I and then we can use that as a jumping off point because I don't WanNa torture what he said earlier and I might have done that. So sorry for that. He says quote absolutely I believe that black lives matter kneeling while wearing a black lives matter t shirt doesn't go hand in hand with supporting black lives. I. Don't think kneeling or putting on a T. shirt for me personally is the answer i. Feel like for me, black lives are supported through the Gospel. All lives are supported through the Gospel. We all have things that we do wrong. Sometimes, it gets into a place of pointing fingers. We all fall short of God's glory whoever will humble themselves and seek God and repent of their sins. We can see our mistakes and people's mistakes and evil in a different light. Racism isn't the only thing that flags our society, our nation and our world, and he basically said he wanted this conversation to get out of the realm of skin color because the answer to all of our problems in everything that goes on in our world is Jesus. So. when I watched the clip. I'll I'll be honest. I was a little confused where he was going to after typing it all out trying to marinate on what he was saying I think he essentially wanted to have a demonstration on behalf of his religious beliefs and that this was an opportunity for him to say look you know focusing only on one particular group I. Guess in his view, the black lives matter group and you know everybody wearing a t-shirt doesn't necessarily achieve the wider goal which would be presumably healthy living. You know honest living you know Living which to him as a higher priority I think that's where he was going with his statements.

"Since you got in the league guys have always done stuff your own way. Whether it's like building your own company or it's really like taking whatever is kind of the status quo and flipping it on its head was that i know like from a young age like hard work and and everything was kind of it was it was like entrepreneurship and like doing things your own way kind of something that was talked about it just kind of start to happen yeah. I mean my dad. <hes> i mean since i know me always worked united house. Yeah you know he was his own boss. He was always farm on that. You know i want to do things my way. You knows my life <hes> so i mean when he saw i guess division that you know we had a chance to make it and just knowing that if we if we did make it we can own our own stuff you know. I think that's what pushed pushed the brand. Yes we're started because he was so big at home chino and we <hes> nobody knew what she was. We took to number one school in the country and <hes> after that that's when we really could do it. You know right now just to be able to own by nipsy. You know you you want to own your own stuff. You know if they're offering you x. Amount imagine what they're getting off off of that if they're giving you this you know so. It's pretty much bed on yourself. I mean at the end today. You know i'm on get our to put in and you believe in south. Can you believe in your work at the thing you can do it. You know obviously it's not easy you know. He went through some boston. Boroughs is still going through it right now but <hes> dan today. Do you think you can do it and he knows more power to you. Yeah i mean it's kind of similar on a much smaller scale thought process behind the podcast sure saint opera yeah so definitely you know you just kind of control your own narrative or you control in your own brian ended. The date asked what what it is. Is you whenever you do you think of you. Think of a what's his brand and you think those things if you think of myself. He took my brand so it's like you. Just kinda really taken a <hes> <hes> a firm grasp on that and be able to kind of take that into any direction. You really wanted to be in in this. I think is really cool and i think you got definitely definitely set a blueprint today. I think he would definitely kind of you. Know followed add in and follow. You guys past jefferson in those aspects i i <hes>. We just put the idea out. There obviously not perfect you know like i said we went through a lot still going through a lot. You know jonah figure things out but <hes> just to show people that it can be done. I think that's big. Hopefully the next people you took the shots in the chin for them so that they can have a smoother path. So was it a fellow. That probably not a answered. It's always going to be u._c._l._a. No yeah yeah. We sat on that you now. <hes> ben howland. Was there so that was a while ago on. Everybody's watching them all the time on t._v. We always watch them. Just being out. There and i always want wanna play for him. So what am i got offer committed right there. If you take a lot of say take visit. I'm so you down there all the time or whatever your house house already down there but he also committed to visit right after that was it i mean i committed i only offers from like damn washington and a yukon and you just knew you like i'm staying. I wasn't going nowhere so as i have now is very quick. I mean there's something to be said for kind of laying that blueprint and then sticking to it when you went to college those for the first time you lived on your own. I mean technically yeah. I'm supposed to say i was there but was your lifestyle can cause chino hills a lot. Nah i live with demo. We live in an apartment like i five minutes away so always over there and then college now. It was really game of big bang. Take little bank so don't do that. Are you. A closed guy khanna kinda like not super super but like i'm i tried to get into it but is it. I guess me personally. I'll say this don't wile out about it because at the end of the day they look smooth look presentable. That's stuff like that but at the end of the day don't compete with nobody because people are going to be making way there's going to be there's way more money than you negative way more connections than you and they got way anymore like way flyer shit lives like lists you look cooler presentable whatever but at the end as you say compete with russell westbrook no russet got a bag on and off the court so it was like you know he can spend far can alva- ain't nothing. You spent five canal especially right now that november fifteenth. You haven't got their first. Check yet so that five k. that's a big chunk of money so <hes> i would probably say those for our say. Stay away from like really limit and you get that nice nike portal going there and order all your oh shit flowers. I'm more like a comfy dress. More nice stuff is gonna be like especially being in new orleans to like. I don't think there's that pressure like l._a. There's kind of have like a pressure to like. Be look fly which is unfortunate. Also the only thing though say really like splurge on is like anything in your house anything in house splurge on that end of the day we we go who we travel so much and when we come home i gotta be home. I'd it'd be like our sanctuary where we did go to kind of kick back. Relax whatever like this. You spend a bunch of my on nice s. furniture nice confidence over that good bed spend five ten count a bit like the extra long like accustomed joint. Oh yeah i know i i know one custom cousin bid. I'm not gonna shout because they don't show me that much loved sponsor the episode then i think i think that's been like five counter-bid but it's like everyday use it every day. I got i wanna be i wanna be cozy because if i get in at two o'clock and i gotta wake week of it eight nine o'clock the next day i wanna i wanna go home. Go right laima ben. Go right to sleep and be comfortable exactly. That's the thing you want to be comfortable is there. Is there anything about beleaguer like day to day life that you've always wanted to ask or wanted to know but you haven't had the chance to. I know there's a bunch of free time by no oh you doing a free video almost want to play video games but but i feel like bash is going to be the main difference for me just having all that extra time like there's already been a difference for me. I've been realizing that like i just beginning boy i. I'm bored as hell. I'll really no and now it makes sense because because you just say you want. You came back from china. He takes me to thirty two a day. Talking about u._n._l._v. was like bro. I am not. I was knocked out six a._m. Workout the next morning. I work out a six. That's why was not up as two o'clock but <hes> no time differences. I'm not telling the the amount of free time is crazy. Dash dot com where you can relate started learning about yourself with this kind of figuring run out what other passionate you really have no you can you know read you can learn about new. You know different stuff. You can learn about business and the tech world so you can know you can play video game. You can cook like dude. There's so much free time for you to kind of really learn about yourself <hes> and learn about so what passionate besides basketball you really wanna get into and i think that's probably definitely one of the big differences in that because college. You have to go the class. You have to let the study study yeah. You got your really. Your days basically planned out for it. You don't have to yeah but you go now. If we have privacy ten so you get there eight thirty you eat breakfast. You get some shots before practice actor so little mini workout practice. Maybe get some shots up after maybe do a lift. You do all that one you done by one o'clock until the next day yeah so it's like you could go home. Take a nap. You can gain you can book you hang out with you. Do anything you really wanna do to probably our say really used that time to just kinda like it's kinda. Learn more about yourself and just kind of see like what exactly you want to due at the end of the day. The baud ball is going to start balancing at one point and you got a dentist i i would i do after that so then you can kinda start doing that. Start thinking about that plan if it had now so then you're nineteenth say you're you retire at thirty five. You had good sixteen years in the league dennis like oh i. I really know what i'm going to say. You wanna do commentating you. Can you can do a podcast. You can do go on different episodes e._s._p._n. And discard those sales in this be like i wanna i wanna be a broadcast here. Here's my stuff. This is what i do so yeah. I was just kind of use that time. Learn learn about yourself and learn what you're passionate about and the cool thing about the platform that you guys have as n._b._a. Players you can take that passion and then like use it to generate revenue actually build a brand for yourself like gaming for him to start off like hobby and now you're you know you're making bread off at you're probably the most well known game in the league and you're actually like you're definitely the most you can you. Though i basically get a dog we we can get now. Did you bring your debris over here but it's the hotel i'm bestsellers. We all care so as i go up on <music>. I'm i'm with you. I'm doing nothing into. We got another podcast. I can't really our a little bit worse than me no better than you but her too so what we do is discarded lionheart atten- we asked to say we ethic guest the same questions every every episode it is. It's not really ratify was kind of this away for you know the guest to learn a little bit more about you. I guess even though they did a our interview aw but so i guess kinda start off larry ten by was your biggest pet peeve but he was their fleet groupies and fake people makes me really man. You're gonna take you along labor. Your yeah you definitely you keep dashes because there are so many groupies fake friends that you're gonna the heavily silence. That's one thing i was very an added girlfriend. So you know i'd be challenged but i was very disappointed because i heard an illegal yeah. Oh you know you you walk into the hotel lobby. You know people everywhere you know. Groupies girls do party. I club guys aren't gives you know they were there by. These weren't talking to you wrote. They weren't her that a two day. I was so disappointed but yeah no definitely keep w._b._z. Happens more like the big events like all star weekend and like team u._s._a. Transplants the only sign up that's but that's a good one biggest fear biggest fear clowns so you haven't seen it. I like i like scary movies by hate clowns like when i see a clown in person i'm scared to go back. Fears birds then clones like little birds like birds fly you big as a skit a bird. I got attacked poland while great ever since i'll be petrified of various very subtle dude. You'll see me on campus. All these birds flying straight pat. I'll be duck in target so so <hes> <hes> basket clown but i'm just going to be like like you'll be ready. Be ready at. I'm gonna just keep on beyond. Its o'clock really petrifies me your favorite cartoon growing up for khartoum ruin up oleszek owen. I wanna say finish for really you know the theme song by heart by heart by saying but i do i know ratio one hundred four days and i question sometimes for i guess because like i it's either like oh yes bob was very positive or as i assume that over i can't really relate to or a young i like finish on for but it was i was like i was like starting to grow up a little bit. Yes oh. I didn't really watch spongebob was a main one for me. See my mom. Never my mom. Never let me watch funds but i i watched. I watched spongebob like whenever i was anywhere else over but in my house i watched my mom just didn't like it. She's he's done like what what was so bad. She had bad connotations and stuff was at friend's houses. I watch my cousin's house house. Never at the curb now. I'm not gonna lie now to like that does not. I'm older and i know auto references. I cartoon gentlemen they dams during his in as we thought they used to be abrode not as innocent at all. I've seen so many memes and stuff like like it'll be like oh definitely this this flu of my when i was a kid mr crab losing bikini bottom like stuff like that. It's like it might not been like the the intent ten but it's like oh. That's kind of yeah and they said pearl wasn't his daughter. He was actually her sugar daddy that it's i don't know i okay. I can't childhood celebrity crush. Oh megan fox megan fox from former someone else that megaphone have you got fox from transformers. I'm not who's your who's fi- i had i was meagan good and then now kalani. I love my was. I don't know if did you ever watch boy. Meets world took panga. What superpower would you want. <hes> i'm like a super power like what superhero would be like. Superman has powers but like if i wanted to give it give us. Both what superhero hero would you want to be. I guess what would like if you have any superpower. Were you want probably like fly like you're a little bit faster and yeah. I can just like kind of hide in basketball. I just be like oh my god that'd be a w is going to give you actually the way our blocking you that little extra. Thanks to describe your duncan. Some really is true. She's he's got like a little bit a little extra. If you could switch lives anyone for a day who would it be. <hes> probably lake aac loki bill gates see as soon as infinite bread but that just by a bunch of stuff go to a bunch of different crazy places his money because i'm for today's i gotta do i'll. I'll say definitely put a little wire the wire near to be a bogus little wire to j._r. Bank accounts art not and then it got to be a bit expensive extended to my checking account chances direct deposit you know and then we're gonna get really just cash really cash venema them. Oh yeah pajama m._o. Into what profession other than yours would you like to attempt <hes>. I wanna get a real estate related like flipping houses and tell us residents of real estate is probably a good place to do that. It was a good spot start. That's actually i'll probably if i do start off by star in austin though just because the state tax on a bunch of people are moving and i went there so a bunch of people like me..

"Record is old and you came in the only thing that pissed me off bro 'cause we didn't we had we lose corey brewer brook lopez. It's not that literally like well. What is your dirt but <hes> besides that most of the young guys so they wanted a older guys and we had larry to in j._c. So i was like the fit otis on the team so as a rookie hannah but the only thing that pissed me off about because we got we got off easy really must have to do your had a <hes>. Give food for the plane new stuff. I may give rise every now and then someone needs something like a flight and our baio. You run to best by you know. Get some headphones or whatever and come back so stuff like that but the only thing that pissed me off was b._i. With cinder like rookie me bro like b. b. I was had was like yo- ne- like a couple of jacks. I remember in cleveland bro so yo. I i need a jacket for tonight. I was so sick broke because i was on the phone. I was phased on madonna then <hes> when i was in the mall because he stayed we stayed at the ritz like like week more used to go out there as a kid so hours. He talked selected the debut the morning game i need. I need a jacket for tonight. Some i'm on some louie. Our law like we says moore shaaban avenue b b nineteen at a time. I'm twenty two years old. I'll facetime and donovan. Dom is laughing at me. He's two who years younger than you and use any like going shopping for him and i was descending. I was so sick i i would not gonna do. I wanted this towed tone. Adamant is and just walk away was heated but that was the only thing i made naik. 'cause we got off. We got off easy but i was the only thing that pissed me off bro. There's a you do that because one is is kinda like initiation into the league konaga type thing but i you know guys always good taking care of like you might have to go. Get shake shack for the player and you know it'd. It'll be like one hundred fifty dollars then some. We'll give you give you five hundred dollars per per redeeming like five hundred. I mean you know eight pig so on of us you but for me i was. I was in over thirty picking that check come a little slower. Some dislike held yeah. I i went up fifty on all his height and they wonder what the hype about. It was definitely t._v. Tomlin's brian shallow to thank you signed. A new contract is all season but like t- t._b. Was a he he got. He got paid very well rookie year but he was he was a second round pick pick so he wasn't he didn't have to guarantee money didn't make much money as the first on pigs did but you know the money's always there for us always i he'll do stuff and he'll be like you know be will break them off and it'll be good so this is the only thing now going on a tangent right now about it but at this reminds me because t._v. If you guys don't know tom tom o'brien is like the one just like a he's hype as hell like no matter what like he'll get he'll deng. He's gonna let everybody know you donkey yelling for a zion but he's worse. Oh yes cheat them. All my god yes exactly like i'm valid always high. If we oughta don't know i think he signed a two way with the with the pelicans and he was with some league team but like if they do something in the gym day on that you know it doesn't matter if you watch like you sound like on the court or you're in the nose bleed or you're like watching another game. You're gonna know they did something. You'll know you might not know what they did but you gotta know that this is so t._b. Grabbed a rebound bound one of the games. It was like one of the games on ios. I give me that shit. Luella rebound of rebound like stared down. He jumped overdoing grabby. Have you looked at the dude and the game was just about over the part of the game. He got a tech bro. You would've thought he lost his dog where he guys so sad broke. Tell us twenty five hundred out of five hundred bro. I never seen someone go from mm zero to one hundred i know seeing some will go from one hundred zero so fast before in a game he literally give me a shoe new tech. He was like he didn't say anything for the next three minute like last name. Is that a game like dennis say a word. He walks into practice next day trying to make the money back. Anybody's gonna run a but toss five zero. Yeah exactly you got. Did you know that makes no running. You know these handles skittles. Let me know go do it but now i i'm. I'm gonna do a little bit. I'm am i gonna do too much am i. Am i gonna do the most he'll be like my lake. I'd be like my car because he's so obviously dairies and each one john and jay day so those are the main guys being. Let go ahead of me doing shit. I'll tell you that but nigga nikita nikita. We'll get the most because the gar is you know he's going to have to do a lot of this stuff and you got the more older ones like he. He got d favors so they would probably be his debases court. Do <hes> zion too yeah. You're probably to lure whom i dare to seems like a good bet there but it'll be funny because they don't wrong future franchise whatever you wanna say but definitely gonna get his ass. Is that how it works in the league doesn't matter how much you'll still see it doesn't matter because at the end of the day i mean you'll be hurt blue he might be he might be hurt too but you gotta do it. Oh and i'm telling you that if if you have to if anyone says on do it it don't matter if it's like now i'm getting popcorns. They tell me. I don't want my escalade popcorn you just you're like if i forgot who in while tell you we. I used to talk shit to my vets because i honestly really. I just didn't have a vet like mess around with me a little bit but i was really it. I brute in having do nothing. Luau didn't have me do nothing it was is i was i was living life. I was good but i talked to my do. They want to bring him a towel. After practice azra game they wouldn't give him a towel that he wouldn't bring brings something or if they bring donuts defunct the donor order up and it wouldn't be the same looking at y'all like y'all swe doing nothing because if you see a lot the videos if you don't do your if you don't do your rookie duties or you don't do whatever it is. It might be as simple as bringing your towel putting a talented onto tear at the end of a game or something like that if you don't do that after a game. You're going to try to get into that. They're nice car. You got escalate eight or it might be rain or whatever it is gonna be able to get in for a minute. Can i think there'll be filled to the roof of popcorn. Is tommy. Tell me to be straight. Did you get up yet. I just bought my car actually yesterday. Yeah twenty escalade leases to buy the tencent money man. I see a big guy he. He could have gone way more crazy than that. I'm i'm happy because the roads the roads bad down. There said the roles hold on don't think about that yeah oh yeah the roosevelt and always flooding sound like you know i'm gonna give me a big. Eh job in a restaurant gone away from. I am my benz on. I'm sort of getting a range because i'm not the rhode terrible new orleans if you're listening would of mine repair and libertyville rose over there but we were <hes> we're talking about. Just kinda like your guys is age difference and obviously you're nineteen. I was looking at you. Josh and i was like yo when you were nineteen. You didn't even necessarily know if like if you were going to be in the league and then jackson and you're like i i didn't even know i was going to be in the league so like a year ago. You were going into your freshman year at texas thought you were gonna maybe redshirt you weren't sure leg and all of a sudden a year later later year you know the number pick talk summer league. So what how do you even wrap your head around around where you are and when did it like. When were you like okay. This could actually happen for me. A <hes> yeah like really around this time it was like in the summer like swimming close with tom about like red shirt and then came in he let me rock a little bit the first game and then after that like i started taking off and they start producing more and more he's game and then about the north carolina game last year's around thanks it was thanksgiving day whereas north carolina in vegas and <hes> snapped a game and then after the ice on my new draft board i was like crazy i can actually be a one and done and then yeah how did coach take it like was he was he the because i feel like some coaches are probably really cool about it. Others are like not coach was all with like this. I mean obviously obviously he wants to stay home but <hes> i. He wasn't trying to pull me in any certain way. He's just giving me his honest vice with everything which i mean <hes> <hes>. I feel like guitar for people to do that but i mean close smart did it was cut when you were tested. The waters after junior and then decided to go back senior. Coach woes was was coach right like cool about it or was he told me you know if you're if you're like a lot for taiwanese like if you had a guarantee before before i had to make a decision by the time i had to make decision. If i were to leave or stay here they had a guarantee in the first round like go it ain't it ain't ain't even a question you just gotta go. I didn't have that and he was just kind of like you know you can still they'll leave. You want like you're you're. You're you know you're still make a team. If you comeback we could have a chance of repeated and you can be one of the best way within the country and oughta got it but i think that's so important. I feel something you have guide have to look at going into score to. It's not just the name of is about the character around around him could like you said coats more probably wanted to best character guys co two guys in in in college so you know he's going to do what's best for himself. Yeah and you know sometimes in certain program does not what's best for the player. This is what's best for the program and it's like jake you have the best recruiting class in the country three top twenty picks or whatever do twenty recruits coming manila in and then the next year. You got the same thing so it's like. Are you pushing. You know some of the guys just force li yun if they're not ready just because like yeah you got the short end of the stick because if you don't leave these guys come in and these might.

"In the same room more stay toy even country. I guess i am live from london right now in a hotel room and mel other people know. Where were you all right now. You left me at home brauman l. a. I'm actually in office. This is a sign for. I hate to say it a sign for what's to come. We're going to have to get a little bit more used to this remote life. Yeah exactly it's crazy. I was shot a mild and jordan the production side of how well they can. <hes> make this sound and sound like we're in the same room. You know when not but yeah. There's something that we're going to have to kind of. Get <hes> ready for us. I guess good practice so far yeah i'll be. I'll be down there that i'll be down there a lot for sure especially for the big episodes yeah definitely going to do some live episodes there. That's gonna be fine. This kind of <hes> been a little more interactive where some of the fans down there in new orleans and definitely hopefully have some you know later down the line in other places like l._a. Or philly d._c. Other places like i said i'll be fun so i guess are sore was been up with you lately. Not much man i have i mean i haven't been been been gallivanting through europe. I'll tell you that i'm actually i'm much more eager to hear about your vacation because i i've seen everything on social. I've tried to try to give your space not bother with too many <hes> too many questions but <hes> but i see your your chelsea stadium. You're tottenham tottenham stadium. What yes oh god here saturday. The tenth <hes> when went to tottenham uh-huh game. I s tanna man no bags right. Yes yeah first of all my bat. Delta didn't have my bags. Go for some reason got stuck in laguardia so that i didn't get here until a couple days after i got here so i had to go do shopping and the podcast equipment was in their podcasts can move in there so i had to go the shopping get brand new clothes do everything <hes> for that and then got here room resin ready so we <music> machine <hes> myself in shannon were out roaming the streets of <hes> regent street of london in a shopping and i'm just trying to waste time to love a room got ready in the lee. Ryan room got ready. We got here dropped off ourself. Quickly showered ahead out to tottenham to watch. They're they're mad. I asked him villa which was a good mess. They won three one <hes> you know tunnel gave me great hospitality osama chelsea fan and my chelsea me. They dragged you and they drag the thing is i know that's one of chelsea biggest rivals but i still wanted to thank them for the hospitality they gave me. I feel like that was the least i could do you know they they gave me <hes> a jersey which i'm not really sure what i'm going to do with that but <hes> home they gave me good seats and the full you know a tour of they would go onto pit and stuff like that so i wanted to at least thank them for the hospitality and much vance killed me for now and so obviously the next day i went to manchester united game verse chelsea <hes> where they beat us foreign nil and it was a rough one but you know i didn't promote or thank them as much on social media <hes> manab and you know just doing that and today they were to go to the bridge. <hes> tom chelsea plays and take a tour. They're you know they they gave me a jersey. I kind of went and bought up the whole host store there so that'll be fun. I got a lotta chose aguirre and be able to wear <hes> throughout <hes> you know my n._b._a. Season so you gotta see me walking in with joe sagir. You guys already know where i bought it from. I was <hes> i saw a bunch of the fans like like when you posted the picture at tottenham stadium. A bunch of the fans were like you know this is why americans don't understand like true rivalries like you know this is why soccer is the best in the world because like the rivalries are so intense like a real fan would never do that as the rivalries over there are they noticeably just way more intense than over here most definitely the fans are just you know the more passionate and that's not a knock to any of the n._b._a. Fans but you know people here. That's what they they live for. They live for you know working during the weekend on matchdays adder sunday now they go everything shuts. It's down to go to the game <hes> mateer unbelievably for their for their team and their club and then you know to kind of do that so that passion is crazy so the rivalries are crazy here so definitely way beard and any of the robberies in the state of <hes> any sport so as kind of course so asked him learning a little bit more about that in their culture so i know next time if that ever happens you guys won't be seeing me post anything about that stuff but <hes> no is crazy and you know i think i kind of love it even more just because of the passionate the fans had the <hes> now now. They're always behind our club. You know what highs the lows you know. There was <hes> chelsea loss <hes> for no two minute of the day. Dan was three nil. You still here three thousand chelsea fans. I was able to make up the trip to manchester. There's still yelling chanting ranting and shown their support so is coolness <hes> an amazing environment. I think anyone who is able to watch for merely game. <hes> yeah out here. They definitely should do it. I love it have you been. Have you been fine dining at all. We've been to a couple of spots. We went to hawk zone. <hes> went. We went to go to ramsey's new restaurant. Here called lucky cat tonight. We're going to base called may's before that shannon wants to go get drinks at there's little league honors. She looked at online. He's a big instagram food drink finder so as it's exactly yeah right so spike caught a sketch. I think like boris is going to go get drinks before dinner there so we've been to their. We've been camden market. Which was i think probably had the best ruben. I went there yeah. I think i had the best room. She got her ruben there. Oh from from briskets and bagels yeah i had two of them. There were fire really good so that <hes> i'm blanking on a couple of other spots but it's been good either for us. I'm looking forward to to tonight in an to barcelona so good wine. <hes> what gonna have other day. I had a <hes> <hes> dinner. We had a white burgundy. Ooh we started with a white berry ahead when my one of my favorite boy where does the show to con con <hes> had one of those <hes> then we want the harrods and i didn't really if god yeah the don't knows hair that a huge department store here is kind of like a neiman marcus but on steroids a whole bunch of designer stuff there whatever but what i didn't no we're kind of got me with at the bottom floor they had like the shoes and all that which is cool but at a wine shop down there so i walked in dan. I like you know like board. Does i went to the bordeaux secchia and they were the ninety five <hes> show to monto rothschild and though the dono math <unk> asked my birth year at ninety five so needless to say ended up buying that then they were there to palmer to other fourteen fourteen vintage. Which was their century <hes> y which i got so i've got a decent. <hes> couple of bottles are that i had here in those ones. I'm shipping back to the states to indulge in you know at the right time as big time and <hes> we'll we'll see and then <hes> that's the lovely thing obviously the wind passion for both devices growing you know your i'm a big cabin big black guy. You are a <hes> big pino guy year. We we kind of talked about that earlier more you. You liked little like the more lighter and not as cavs are really the cab or whatever so but for you we saw on your ram from the wine access and she's some good some good bottles and a nice little little gift box or gift case of some wine so <hes> i was kind on a jealous. I saw that i'm like man. I'm i'll have to get that death fourteen silver oak but <hes> now i think things good i think we've kind of expanded our palettes decent amount the eh the good people at a i want access of graciously hooked us up with with <hes> with a bunch of wine and <hes> it's just cool to its cooler meet people who've been in the space for awhile who know a lot about it because it's really intimidating <hes> <hes> and it's cool to see them be pretty pretty welcoming in <hes> willing to to work with people who are who are new and just kind of help show them the ropes you know yeah yeah and that was like the the one thing i like wine and i'm new to wind. I've only been in the wine for you know last year but now i was when the napa and i was having dinner will <hes> will harlan <hes>. He was signed talking to odyssey. You know change. I'm describing service of wine and etc etc. He said one thing that made me feel so much more comfortable and confident in myself and in wine and he was like there's half a million five hundred thousand merchants in the world sailing selling wine and each of them have of different blends different <hes> vintages <hes> so with that he was like those the millions of of wines every year so he said that i'm just saying and he was like no. There's some masters master somber a massive wine <hes> that can't agree on if a wine was corked corked or not so when she said that i'm just thinking well you know wonder that much is you can't know about you know millions of bottles of wine that come out every year and then something as simple as if the bottle was corked or not if the best people in the world of quote unquote supposed to be the best people in the world in terms of somalia as and knowing about wine they can't agree on that then you know i feel a little bit more comfortable in my own skin <hes> and in the wine the wine world and and luckily we were texting for nessa and he's been a amazed from me. I'll be back and forth out the best wise get a different restaurants and etc so so <hes> been been good so i can't complain <hes> unrelated no but i saw that you guys are playing thirty national television games. That's huge yeah. Mass will be amazing <hes> obviously as a franchise record so there's great and to be able to be seen with such a good team is such a young team. That's competitive. Teammate and exciting team is is really good for our growth as a team of an organization and i think this kind of go up from here and is crazy to see teams. I golden state. They have thirty national t._v. Game league have thirty one national t._v. games so no national t._v. Wise exposure wise is were at the top international televised games. Were the top you know of of the league and you know we're just as i walked just have the potential to be just as some of those teams are some of those organizations that had had so much tradition tradition so much winning and success and you know the history <hes> there are franchises so this'll be great and i'm looking forward to it odyssey. We'll see you always loved playing national televised games so it's going to be this'll be fun here. It's it's the best of both worlds bro. You're on a great team a young team and you know you have every bit of the spotlight and every bit of attention that you got so accustomed to you know in l. a. because we've talked about it before on podcast but i can imagine as as a player you know there's there's probably a little frustrating to be going out every night and doing your thing and and you know averaging not not you but like just like averaging twenty five game in but still being looked at as like a small market guy still being you know. Maybe discounted a little bit because you're not seen on national t._v. All the time so. I think this is a huge opportunity for you. Guys thinks thanks so much definitely and i think the biggest example of that is is drew and i kind of want to <hes> get away from saying he's the most underrated player 'cause i don't want that to be the labor that he has <hes> but you know someone who like that who's a an amazing player on both sides of the core who can impact the game in every which way he's going to be able to have so much more exposure so so that many more people watching the n._b._a. And love the game of basketball can see him more and see how well he plays and how good he is and how good he is far organization so i'm excited for <hes> you know no drew rooted this team of generous those i on the i just go down the list and you know we have one of our new young exciting. Dieting players is going to be on the podcast episode yeah <hes> verschoor with jackson hayes and <hes> he was known. I don't wanna say he was known for his dunk but you you know one of his biggest highlights.
