The Christian Right and the Christian Left

"I read The New York Times and other left wing sources, regularly. The latest. Target is not the white supremacist. It is the Christian. There are articles regularly and comments by left wing Democrats in power about the predominance of Christian nationalism among Christians. And then they will bring up a few quotes generally of right-wing politicians saying that this is a Christian nation, and we need to return to our Christian roots. Well, to be precise, it would be interesting if they said it's a judeo Christian nation. Which, by the way, I think they should say, because it is true and truth is always good and sets you free. The founders were profoundly judeo Christian. They saw themselves as establishing in America the second chosen people. Not supplanting the first. But in addition to the first being the hebrews, the Jews, the Israelites.

"Senator Rick Scott, before I get to the question of the FBI, which is burning up the call screen. People are very, very angry about this. I want to get your I want to get you over and under. It looks to me like the Republicans could end up anywhere from 48 to in a great great year 56. I think the over and under is 52 and a half for the Senate in January of 2023. What do you think? As long as we raise our money, we're going to get a majority. I don't know if that'll be 51, 52, 53. You're right. We have great candidates. So if we have our money, we have shot BioShock pick up 6 to 8. But it all comes down to enough money to get our message out. That's why I tell everybody help these candidates or if you want to help us, it's text 5 5 four four text win to 5 5 four O four because if we have the resources, I think we're just going to be a great year. People are mad. They're mad about inflation. They're mad about Afghanistan. They're mad about the border. They're mad about defunding the police. They're mad about this rate on Mar-a-Lago. So I think Republicans are going to show up and vote.

Do Senate Democrats Have Any Reason to Believe They Can Win?

"Senator Scott, our people on the Hugh Hewitt radio program are very in the weeds about the mechanics of winning. As the head of the NRSC, you are in charge of making sure we take back the Senate. Are people are people who are concerned because the regime narrative is that we're in trouble in Georgia with Herschel Walker that we're in trouble in Pennsylvania with Doctor Oz. What's the NRSC doing to ensure that we win those crucial Senate seats? Well, Kurt here's where we are. We have great candidates. We've got wonderful individuals that have gotten through their primaries. They're clearly focused on running good races and representing their state. If you look at all over the country, it's actually all these states where we have competitive races. Biden is numbers are horrible. The democratic agenda is not well received. People shocking people don't like high inflation. They don't like to defund the police. They don't like critical race theory. They don't like the fact that there was a raid on a former president House of potential opponent in 24 to the existing administration. So, but we've got to do this as long as we raise our money and we get our message out. I think we have every reason to believe that we can get a majority.

Democrats Still Face Enthusiasm Gap

"Well, David drucker of the Washington examiner, I think we're getting some data points. We've seen the Minnesota and Wisconsin primary elections Republican Republican voters up. Democrats down in Hawaii in the primary. A massive increase in Republican voters and a drop in Democrats. The regime media story, the narrative is Joe Biden's back. He's got his aviator glasses. He's gotten one 12th of what he asked for. That's practically the new deal. He's back. He's not even falling off his bike anymore, as he rides on the beach. And I think that that attempting to wish cast a guy with approval on par with monkey pox. I just think I just think his wishful thinking, what do you think? Well, I too think that looking at the president's screen of legislative accomplishments all in a row after several months of nothing. And concluding that the entire midterm election landscape is turned on its head, it stands for because it's just not true. I mean, the president's approval ratings are still low. Democrats are still facing headwinds. And one of the reasons why I'm paying close attention to how the fallout from the raid shakes up politically is because Republican turnout in primaries was already in democratic turnout in primaries was already either down or nowhere near as good as Republicans. So the Democrats already faced an enthusiasm gap. So it's not like they were riding high and now all of a sudden we've seen this thing turn on its head.

The Republican Anger Over the FBI Raid

"A full board of calls here. I have seen so much intense and unyielding anger among people at what the FBI did. It's not transitory. It's not superficial. It is deep. It is all consuming. These people are furious because they believe they're constitution has been betrayed. Do the people inside the beltway have any conception of just how angry people are in response to this Mar-a-Lago warrant nonsense. Well, I'm not sure if people I think the question that people, I think what people inside the beltway are trying to figure out. And your question is very valid question. I think when people are trying to figure out is who is angry, where are they and who's happy and where are they? And when you put all those together into a voting electorate in the midterm elections, how does that shake out? I am not at all surprised that Republican voters were voters who tend to vote Republican or voters who vote as long as Trump's on the ballot are upset about this. There are also a lot of democratic voters who are not or who have felt for almost two years at Merrick Garland, the attorney general has been way too timid in dealing with Trump and other Republican mouthpieces as they see it. And so whenever an event like this happens, I like to see how all of this shakes out. Often people inside the beltway and this all sorts of things. So if they're missing this, we're missing this wouldn't be the first time. But I don't think people on aware. I just think people are trying to figure out how to put it together in such a combination that they can figure out whether or not it's going to affect the midterm elections and beyond. Well,

"About a generation that is not only more lonely and more isolated. But you know, it's interesting because our friends on the left, you know, if they want to insult the book, they'll say, well, you know, every old person is a curmudgeon and a crank, and they think the next generation is going to help. No. What I'm seeing in my classroom is that my students who I care very deeply about are the most unhappy people in American history. They are depressed. They are isolated. Look at the data, even The New York Times is doing articles about how young women are going to the ER. They're literally going to emergency rooms because their mental health is in crisis. Look at the self harm. Look at the rates of suicide. And of course, it makes sense, Charlie. They don't have the kind of connective tissue that typically gives life its meaning. They don't have intensive friendships. They don't go to church. They don't have meals with their parents. And, you know, as you pointed out before, these problems were here before COVID, you know, and COVID, oh my goodness, just put them on steroids. I mean, amplified them and made them worse.

"Reading papers over the week, and I see this story. Pete Davidson and they show a picture of Pete Davidson holding Martha Stewart's hand. And they're insinuating like this could be the next romance and I'm going, what are they talking about? What? You know, it's a popular thing where Pete's gonna go next. I had said, maybe he'll go after that shit from you for you that sexy young blond chick, Sydney Sweeney. She does all the nude scenes in the sex scenes. That seems to be perfect match for him. She's like 24. He's 28. That could be good. But no, the New York Post actually floated the room with a Pete, Davidson, and Martha's Stewart. What is she 88? Not really, but of course they're not dating. There was a picture when you enlarge it and you see the whole picture without it being cropped, you see Pete has his arm locked in Kim Kardashian's elbow. And his right hand is holding Martha's hand. They were obviously at a party and all walking toward a certain part of the party. But the article chops came out and just shows Pete and Martha. Come on, do better. It's so embarrassing. You can't do stuff like that and make a story out of it.

"Sitting here with me, Jerome corsi. If you listen to this program, you remember that we've had Jerome corsi on this program in the past. I hardly know where to begin. So I will simply say, welcome back. A great pleasure to be back with you, Eric. Thank you. I look, I want my audience to understand what we're dealing with here. So first of all, you have written many, many big bestselling books to New York Times number one bestsellers. You were the reason you were on this program the last time, you were grievously persecuted through the Mueller investigation. They put you through hell, we talked about that when you were on the program last time. We're living in dark times. What happened the other day in Mar-a-Lago is just the latest example of it. So I want to talk to you about your new book. But give us an update on everything that has happened. I mean, there's so much evil every day, every week, every month that you can't remember what happened a year ago, what happened two years ago. I mean, the Mueller investigation, I forgot about that because so much else has happened. Well, first of all, it's a great pleasure to be back with you. When I was here last, I thought I was going to prison. And it was your shows. I think made a huge impact. And I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I'm astonished in thrilled and thankful to God that that might be the case. Well, I think my faith got me through and I deeply appreciate your program. We need more Christian programming. My faith was really the bedrock of what I would not lie to give the mule or people what they wanted to keep Trump out of prison. And they wanted me basically to affirm the Russian collusion theory, which I knew to be nonsense and did not have a part in. I thought had ties to Julian Assange. It goes on and on. I wrote a book about it, silent, no more. So

"It's the state off marshmallow. Man does suck go back to the idea. That new york really is the repository for our dreams as well as our fears. Right and dreams writ large because it can really kind of encompass a lot. I mean even some of the films that are more Realistic you know that are trying to depict some part of the culture of new york like saturday night fever or working girl or taxi driver or midnight cowboy. Those are all sort of like on the street with people having a life and the culture of new york but they also all in some way are getting some larger ambition and some larger american spirit. So i was thinking about movies That strike me. And that our new yorkie e films and one of the categories that i came up with kesse do the sort of weird nostalgic romantic often white male dreamscapes version of manhattan and partly. I was thinking woody allen right. 'cause woody allen's film so many of them take place in new york like any hall like manhattan and they're like nostalgia bergen beautiful and him kind of owning the city and doing what he wants in the city. You mentioned when harry met sally. That's kind of the same idea that somehow the city's romantic and big and not quite controllable yet sort of wonderful place for you to be in love and for romantic things to happen that that seems like a pretty long standing image of new york and films. You could stick breakfast at tiffany's in there. You can stick sex and the city in their right. Which is kind of a female version of woody allen in the sense that it's about women in the city. Of course it's edgy. And the women don't always do well but they're like wearing all kinds of fashion doing all kinds of big culture things kind of a similar kind of dreamscapes friends. Friends friends is indeed a tv. Show that that is in new york. Also none of them have any jobs except they really has jobs all know. There's a woman who's a caterer. Oh no and there's another woman who works in department stores that they but basically yeah they don't really have jobs and they are living in these apartments that who the hell lives in apartments. That are that big in their twenties in new york city. So yeah that's kind of dream. Scabby definitely a little low on diversity. In those two you asked me earlier about midnight cowboy. The movie midnight cowboy. And i mentioned that there was one moment in it that i think about. Every time i crossed the street in front of a taxi. Literally every time at it's a scene in which the main characters crossing a street. There's a taxi that's kind of coming up to close on them. And the main character played by dustin hoffman bangs on the hood of the car and says i'm walking here i'm walking here.

I was so looking forward to getting to be has done so. Thank you very much for humoring me by allowing us. What about all of those apocalyptic film. So here's a here's a list of some of them okay. This is so my weakness. The only thing i would do worse on his opera. Go ahead will there. I might. I might have a little bit of knowledge but not a lot. But here a whole bunch of films of the sort. And i will say the thing about these apocalyptic films is that i was born and spent some time as a kid in new york and then left and then i came back after college and then i left and now i'm part time back there. And the apocalyptic films absolutely haunt me. I have the sense that if there is going to be in a fog lives. It's going to happen in new york and nine eleven. And the pandemic sorta plug right into that and i actually do have this sort of ongoing angst about new york being the target. If there's going to be some kind of major attack to the point that i don't really watch apocalyptic films anymore. And i don't read apocalyptic novels about new york. I just can't do it because it's it's actually to its disturbing. It makes me more anxious than a person needs to be when you're actually living even part time in new york so you have movies like just the title tells you escape from new york rate cloverfield which i actually did watch a horror film and new york is just destroyed by a big monster and i saw phone once and we'll never watch it again because new york big monster about that own the thing about that film and this probably true of many of these fuck elliptic fills is. It starts out being really typical new york. There's a scene at the beginning of that movie where people are having a party and they're young kids in their twenties and they're having fun and in the background out of a window. You can see there something weird happening out there. But you can't really quite tell what it is and by the end of the movie you realize. Oh it's an enormous monster about to spread evil around new york city but the idea that you're just kinda going around your life in new york city and then all of a sudden death rains down. That's something that's impossible to imagine so so these films in new york seems like a city that would naturally be target. Seems like the place that you could believe. A big monster would spring up and godzillas another new york movie that these things could happen ghostbusters right. Those are noyce that one. But i'm actually not really worried about the staff. "We would have been back at it again in october november. So you're talking. April may june july august. You're talking seven months It would have been a lot of work. Can no seven months to put together the product that we have now So i looked at this as nineteen months to put together. This product is great for us on the planning stages i plan on being here in the nassau coliseum on long island the next fifteen twenty years so that takes building foundation and if the foundation cracks in the foundation is and set the right way. The whole house comes tumbling down so this gave me an opportunity to really build that foundation. The right way and You know it it's been. It's been a blessing for us to be able to have this long to do it. And i think it's going to contribute to to a long term plot the right way on and off the field and we're talking with rich list of the new york riptide so let. Let's let's talk about the new head coach. And i hope i say his name at someone's broadcast hockey. I better Lot a lot of store. That was close. I'm embarrassed so i was looking into a little won five championships as a player with toronto. When using the league. And i think having that kind of winning pedigree is great to have his head coach of a new team. I couldn't agree with you more nicknamed the big dog and Dan's a big man to and. And here's what i wanted. When we started looking for a head coach we interviewed over two months. I interviewed probably ten people and then another five or six. Gm type people and scouts and coaches and things but what we're really head coach interviewed about ten people and Dan stood out head and shoulders above. And not just because he's six foot six two hundred fifty pounds but he also stood out for his knowledge and dan is in that group of he was the next coming so he was an assistant coach under people like derek keenan. Who's won many championships in this league. He's assistant coach. Under eddie komo. Who's the gm of the canadian. National team has won a champ. A bunch of championships in this league and dan did it the right way..

"Assistant coach on the offense assistant coach on defense a whole new scouting system and for months we were putting that together getting ready for our draft in september and then we had our draft in september which We had the first pick in the draft. We took a player by the name of jeff at cornell. Jeff will be a generational player in this league. He is a once in a once in a blue moon. Talent that comes out so we're excited. We also focused on free agency and there was a free agent player. Callum crawford played for me and Callum is one of the top if not the top offensive guys in the league We made it a compelling compelling a scenario for him to jump from an eight and three team and first place. When i left new england they were in first place in in the whole we made a compelling argument for count the jump from that tower team because of what we were showing him. What's going to happen in the future. And then we landed a the best up and coming cold and a guy named steve or lemond. We've made a few trades bringing in some new young defensemen. And i really liked what we've put together so far and it's gonna be a different team. It's not going to be a one in twelve team. It's going to be an exciting team. It's going to be young. They're gonna grow together For five six years you know we have a. We have a floss year that We wanna we wanna get back to. We want to get into the playoffs in the next couple years in three years. Three to five play for a few championships and that takes from building from the back out and adding some good offensive weapons. Which is what we've done. The my philosophy is always been these guys play together for the next couple of years. I want them to be together for five to ten years. So that takes a certain person to in a certain character..

Saturday so he says he's not sure of for the apex because of that we have to wait a few more days but he hopes that we are he also says he is pledging to learn and use new York's experience to help the rest of the country as they go through this he says the military is deploying a thousand people to help here in New York three hundred and twenty five coming today they will be deployed to hospitals and he also thinks we will only return to normalcy when we do have an approved rapid testing of skill Bill Gates of Microsoft founder incidently today saying this morning that life won't return to truly normal until we get a vaccine and get new York governor Andrew Cuomo talking about the family that you your family coming together saying the total number of deaths in New York now four thousand one hundred fifty nine from corona virus but the number of deaths overnight dropping for the first time in other developments the number of daily deaths in Spain has now fallen for a third straight day so that's another potential bright spot however Surgeon General Jerome Adams saying this morning warning Americans that the coming weeks will be our Pearl Harbor and R. nine eleven he says these coming weeks will be the hardest and the saddest of our lives you can listening to Bloomberg radio live special coverage of New York governor Andrew Cuomo briefing on the efforts to fight the corona virus and I'm Denise Pellegrini we return now to the programming in progress this is blood pressure well by the number of people trying to sell whatever assets they had to get into cash and so some of the interest rate reductions that we did what you're primarily at the short end of the market hasn't perfectly going through to the rest of the market these facilities that we're setting up our intended to in effect getting the plumbing better so the New York fed has been buying mortgages and treasury securities but said the treasury securities market is operating reasonably well the mortgage market is operating much better than it operated a week or two ago but still not by any means all the way back some of the commercial paper market some of the shorter term markets are seeing margins come in which is a very good sign it means that the lower interest rates are starting to be passed on to of terms and households but I think it's going to take some time so the primary goal of what the total reserved is doing is trying to reduce the amount of spillovers that occur so there's not much we can do about the health crisis that was created by a covert nineteen but there are things that we can do to limit the amount of spillover to financial markets and I think the fact that we quickly got our facilities then they're still more facilities coming has helped in in reducing the amount of financial spillover but not completely eliminated at the Boston center runs the money market facility last week you provided more than thirty billion in that market how how is that when working I think it's working pretty well so by its name the money market liquidity facility clearly we're focused on money markets there are different kinds of money market funds and the ones that are government backed really of had inflows not outflows never experienced no problems at all a second set of money market funds are the prime money market funds which borrow high grade corporate paper and to the extent that corporate paper wasn't trading because people were trying to get into cash it was very difficult for money market funds that were prime money market funds to get the required liquidity as people were trying to get into cash similarly there are municipal money market funds focused on the tax exempt sector those are mostly to retail so it's mostly individuals that are involved in that and municipal that was not treating very actively either so I think our facility has helped in bringing those margins down we have the for the most part seen the outflow from prime funds and municipal bond funds flattening out and in some instances actually starting to increase again your primary purpose was to make sure that money market funds didn't get to the point where they had serious liquidity problems and I think that goal has largely been achieved today six two three details yet another corporate lending facility in the main street landing facility will operate or even when they will begin to operate the corporate facilities that are more focused on investment grade corporate debt the Opel spot somewhat longer term gonna take a little bit longer and the main street is still in the design phase so it's a complicated facility to appropriately scope so I think it's still going to be another couple of weeks do you worry that they won't be up and running into time to save a lot of businesses we're doing the facilities as fast as we can and like every organization were dealing with a lot of people that are working remotely from home and in addition we need to make sure that banks and other organizations understand what the nature of the facility is get paperwork and that's necessary to run them so unfortunately these facilities to take some time we're doing it as fast as possible hopefully we will have the facilities up and running to help on a large.

"If you hear a little Brislin in the background. We're not as soundproof the room that we tape. The someone's getting a little hot on the twenty first floor of our building here in the financial district. And so we crack the window open on a nice spring evening here in downtown Manhattan Yankees currently playing the Astros finishing up their series before off date, and they come back home White Sox home. In the Bronx this weekend. Take it on the Yankees Friday night, Bernie Williams bobblehead night. I would imagine burn baby burn will be in attendance as well for that. Maybe we'll even throw out the first pitch Yankees, by the way, just today Gardner there. You go solo Homer to lead things off a garden party in. All right. So I promise we talk about Frank Sinatra New York, New York. Hopefully, we'll hear that. After some Yankee wins this weekend up in the Bronx think I'm gonna go to Saturday's game. It's funny. And I've tweeted about this before. But I was when I was a student Syracuse university Marty band deer who is a legendary music publishing executive came to speak at came one of my lecture classes that I'll stay at the time. I was a music industry. Courcelles a a lot of take as an elective. So Marty came and spoke, and he was talking about, you know, the whole publishing game for those that aren't familiar with music publishing. And obviously a lot of my background in my other life is been in music and music business. But basically anytime you hear a song public. Publicly, whether it's at a nightclub or in a commercial or at a stadium, the song writers and producers are receiving some type of royalty on that play in the deals vary with the songwriting and producing they have this point system that they use. So it all varies. But essentially, there's publishing companies like Marty's, and he's got the biggest one in essentially that come in and say, okay, you know, Yankee Stadium you play these songs, we rep these songwriters. These producers, you owe us this amount of money for playing the songs, and there's also licenses that they could buy to do it so on and so forth. But that's essentially the way it works. Marty came to speak Syracuse university, and he told us he was good friends with George Steinbrenner and he went to a Yankees game. And he sat in George Steinbrenner's box. And at the end of the game Yankees one they played Frank Sinatra, New York, New York and. They had the rights to that song Marty's company, and he turns to George and he says you're not paying the publishing fees on the song. What are you talking about and ever since then ever since that time that George happened to invite Marty to the game mardi Bandera in his company collected royalties on Frank Sinatra's, New York, New York, of course, for a long time. It was played only after Yankee wins and after Yankee losses the Liza Minnelli version would play LIZA. I don't know why how it took her took it so long to get to the Minnelli camp. But it did. And they complained and they said look either play it for wins. Like, you do a Franks or don't play at all. And so I don't know if there was going to be a lawsuit or what the deal is going to be. But the Yankees didn't want to deal with the trouble. And now if you go to a game, regardless of whether the keys win or lose they play Frank Sinatra's, New York, New York, of course, that song in the headlines last year during the playoffs after was it. Yes. Game. Three of the AL Diaz. Aaron judge in his bluetooth speaker as little boombox walking by the Red Sox clubhouse blasting New York, New York judges, of course, since come out and said that it wasn't intentional. He wasn't trying to stick it to Robert into their face. Of course, the Red Sox. You know, all that story ends. We don't need to recap it. And in addition to them winning it all then than going on in playing New York New York, both after they won the AL Diaz..

"And we have dropped a podcast every single episode. We've had a guest every single episode as well flashback to the first episode of the season with Giancarlo Stanton and last week, Gary Sheffield, and of course, everybody Jimmy MacKay of the pint cast no Jimmy this week. Although we could use them to continue to break down, the new Severino news and all the other. I mean Sanchez. We're taping this during the Astros Yankees game. The finale, hopefully, we avoid the sweep Sanchez out of the lineup because he's got some tightness. But they don't think he's going to go on the I L four it just one thing after another. It's just try to get to look we'll the all star break at five hundred at this point. I mean what what are we doing here? Why do we doing? We'll tell you what we're doing this week on the show. We have a special guest this week a surprise guest this week as we talk later in the episode about Frank's. Sinatra's New York New York about. Being played at Yankee Stadium for wins and losses will talk a little bit about Kate Smith, and God bless America to and now the fact that that hasn't been featured at the stadium this season and a surprise guest will join us during that conversation. I will not tell you who before we get to that conversation, though, we'll talk about stub hub ticket floors. We talked about this a little bit in last season to the pinstripe planes podcast. The fact that there are minimum set for every level of tickets sold on stubhub for Yankees game. So we'll talk about the floors. That are set what your best bang for the buck is what you're looking for when you're trying to get that good deal on a ticket for a game via stub hub. And then again, of course, the Frank Sinatra New York New York conversation with a special guest a surprise gust. You're probably not gonna guess who it is either. So don't even try just gotta listen episode number nineteen of the pinstripe lanes podcast. We get it. All right now..

"Purpose might work with with athletes. You know, there's there's PT's on the medical staff for the New York Yankees. But physical therapists work with all people of abilities level. So this is actually a language issue. That's right in the heart of of my role to physical therapy is they're they're talking about disability being people who who might be born with with something that we've preclude them from doing something versus an injury. So they've actually separated that so now. Yeah. Now, referring to it as the I L now, what did we Ridgely bring me in for the labor them. That's whatever he wants to know. So the shoulder and the hip are both ball and socket joints. I think we can really visualize that if you ball up one fist, and you and you cut your other hand over it. That's the ball and socket. The hip is a really really deep ball and socket when you hear someone dislocating a hip that's a devastating injury. Just like Bo Jackson when he dislocated his hip which led to his career shortening injury. But the shoulders also technically a ball and socket. Joint. And it's but it's not as deep as the hip. So I was I was taught it's really easy to visualize. It's more of a golf ball on a Gulf te- that technically is still a ball and socket joint. But it's not as deep and the labor comes in as kind of a gasket, it's this cartilage ring that helps to deepen the golf tee around the golf ball. If we're using that analogy for the shoulder and the issue with the labor, MS throwing overhead, and this is where you get a little league coaches trying to limit innings in players. It has a lot to do with elbow health. But also shoulder health is that labor is this cartilage ring that helps deepen that socket..
