"Big cat habitat Kay was there will join us to talk about some of the issues that they've been having over there and you know with this with the cover ninety with the outbreak in with what all these different organizations are dealing with it's been really difficult for charitable organizations or an organization like that to to do what they need to do so they've been having some funding issues I want to have them on to talk a little bit about what they've been going through what they need from the community and all of that I want to get to this massive testing screw up let's have a big impact on the Tampa Bay area the results of more than thirty five thousand covert nineteen tests ordered by advent health and performed by a third party land are unreliable with the majority of the questionable tests having been conducted right here in Florida according to advance health more than eight thousand of those tests were conducted in west central Florida and twenty five thousand were conducted in central Florida in a statement event held said it terminated terminated the contract with the lab and is working to notify an appropriately accommodate those who were impacted the organization said the individuals fall into two different categories the first category those two samples were processed and whose results provided by the lab are not deemed reliable and that includes individuals rat on reliable positive results they have to get retested individuals with unreliable negative results who are symptomatic they may need to seek care and may require retesting seems like it would automatically require retesting individuals with unreliable negative results who are a symptomatic but request to be retested there to be offered testing pending availability and in the other category that people fall into those two samples are at the land in question and are part of the battle of they're not gonna be tested at all so they're not gonna have any results and those patients they may require retesting if they're symptomatic I mean that's a lot of tests it is in just to give you a little perspective for people are listening because event is one of the partner health care agencies that we have here in Hillsborough Pinellas county but they've been doing a bulk of the testing and all the mobile testing sites over in central Florida so they had say Ted maul melania and Orlando they had a giant when they were running at Daytona international speedway where I think the pumped out like five thousand or so tasks in the the few weeks that they were open so if anyone's listening in those market that's important for them to know that they're going to be retested I don't know how since they were at such public sites with the malls re opening and the speedway kind of getting back to normal they were shutting them down because they couldn't they don't want to interfere with everything re opening and so they might have to go to your other sites that are open across either Orlando or you know he across of course here in Tampa Bay there are a public sites that are open but that's a big deal now the C. E. O. of the testing lab that had its contract terminated by advent health CEO saying the test all right inaccurate he's saying and I'm quoting here I want to assure them that this is a viable test and he said his company designed to test themselves which got approved by the FDA and he says it's a highly accurate and sensitive test so I mean I don't know what's going on here but to me all of those people all thirty five thousand they gonna get retested that's the safest way to do it because you don't know if they are just for the break down you gave if you have people that yeah we're tested negative or came back tested negative for work you know maybe work negative who knows they could still be a symptomatic if they haven't you know develop symptoms at and then you're gonna need a lot of people probably need the antibody tests as well to figure out if they had it didn't you know kind of felt okay but not so good and then we're still a symptomatic in the end right and and this all follows the FDA cautioning the public about the reliability of a widely used to rapid test right the corona virus that that test made by Abbott laboratories it's been linked with inaccurate results the could falsely reassure patients that they're not infected with the virus and that's the test being used at the White House it was a study that was released on that rapid tests and found it to be missing as many as forty eight percent of infections so look we're doing expanded testing here in the state of Florida and across the country and the testing is certainly ramped up I mean if you look at the numbers we're a much much better place on a daily basis now than we were a couple of weeks ago but you also have some of these lingering issues out there because that these tests are not perfect and look you wouldn't expect them to be necessarily but some of these kinds of scripts like if you've got the Abbott labs test and and they push back on this study they're saying that it's not accurate to but if you even if you have twenty five percent R. of infections that are missed I mean that's you know that's a big problem when you're trying to get a pandemic under control right when you have a twenty five percent more nobody's counties and even across the state were only add about I think those rose one the highest we've talked about earlier we're a two point seven percent of the population that we tested by you know you have twenty five percent of these tests not coming back the right way that's gonna make the numbers you know possibly skew a whole different way once they get retested exactly so that I mean that's that's a that's a big important development that we learned about today and there was another this other story I want to get to this is something that we discussed on the show previously and I actually had a top health professional lawn to talk about this particular illness in detail last week you can find that podcast it was with a doctor public Hida you can find it to search for PM Tampa Bay on your I heart radio apparatus podcaster Google podcast he really went in depth on this but Florida now has cases of that child's illness that's been tied to cove in nineteen our Surgeon General Scott Ricky sick now is that a syndrome that attacks children and is associated with the corona virus has popped up here in Florida and the surgeon general's encouraging physicians and hospitals to make sure they report any suspected cases of what's known as a multi system inflammatory syndrome in children now this is something that has popped up in the U. K. in Italy in New York there's a number of cases they're actually three deaths there New Orleans New Jersey LA so it's it's starting to pop up and what we're seeing is that these children by and large they were a symptomatic carriers of the corona virus they're they're testing positive for the antibodies now but all of a sudden there's this lag and then they start to have this inflammatory syndrome issue that could potentially be deadly it can be it's not always deadly but it's it's certainly scary it's not something you want your child to have for sure and there's a lot that we still don't know about it we don't really know why exactly this is happening so now we have our first cases here in the state of Florida and we don't know what I was listening to Dr Scott Gottlieb over the weekend talk about this the problem is we don't know the denominator we don't know how many children have had covert nineteen ands and we're fine didn't come down with this inflammatory syndrome as opposed to how many have presented with symptoms of this multi system inflammatory syndrome so we don't know how prevalent it is you know if if it's only like a thousand kids that have had the corona virus and then you've got a hundred of them that have this the well then that's a you know a really serious problem if the denominators much larger which probably is then it's not as widespread but when you're talking about re opening schools in the fall if this is something that becomes more more of an issue well you might have some parents that are a little nervous to do something like that and one of the things said when we talk about what the infirm the information as it's an inflammation of the heart and a lot of the major arteries and blood vessels so you're seeing here I've seen some of the stories out of New York where you know the kids just you know you may not feel too good in all sudden collapse and go into cardiac arrest others one I think I saw on a New York one also on CNN where his brother thank god it was a boy scout was there with him and was able to revive him so that's how quickly it can really hit someone that's like seven or eight years old so it's not like they're gonna get lethargic in second kind of show the symptoms it can hit you literally out of thin blue air and this goes back to something that I've said time and time again on the show there's still so much that we don't know when don't understand about this virus and when people are speaking definitively are either you know in a positive sense that there's really nothing to worry about this virus or in a very negative sense that it's going to come back in the fall or it's going to stick around with us and it's going to wipe out you know all these people I mean nobody really knows at the moment and here's another quick example thirteen sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt have tested positive again for cove in nineteen after recovering from the disease and returning to the ship the Roosevelts crew began returning to the ship in late April after spending a month either in quarantine or isolation in Guam but sailors in early may began showing symptoms of the virus like a cough and a fever despite testing negative twice some of the sailors returned to the ship should expanded symptoms even more so than they had before like body aches and headaches and things like that and that all comes after sailors were symptom free for three days tested negative twice and completed their isolation period and then in addition to that outbreak on the Roosevelt they also are dealing with the seller that's been diagnosed with tuberculosis all kinds of problems on the on the USS Theodore Roosevelt but again that's something that we saw in South Korea we sought in China some other places and it's something we're still learning about how you can get better you can recover you can be gone of all your all your symptoms can be gone you can test negative multiple times and all of a sudden symptoms come back you're sick again your testing positive again and they really don't understand why it's just there's so many unknowns and I mean you look at all the virus the vaccine studies are going on in the treatments and this is something we've just dealt with this for two months in this country yeah it's not like we're going to know all the answers by you know the end of August magically when everyone heads back to college yeah I I think that's a part of this whole issue that it's still taking people little while to get their head around this is they they call it a novel coronavirus for reason it's brand new there have been other coronaviruses this isn't the first but this is the first of this type and it certainly acts differently than the ones we've seen in the past in terms of how contagious it is in terms of the symptoms in terms of how it attacks so many different parts of your body what we're seeing in children now people recovering and then getting sick again so again there's a lot that we still don't know but two concerning stories and and something to certainly keep an eye on as we move forward in a moment Felix thank you so much for sticking around we're gonna have you back on tomorrow at six so we don't want to cover on tomorrow's show in a moment we'll talk to the cleaning expert that I meant to have on a couple of minutes ago doctor Kerry lists dies she will join us in a moment to talk about the difference between indoor and outdoor coronavirus safety cell it's moments away on PM Tampa Bay.

"I I remember feeling so many things when I heard the song and not knowing what it was all about. Listening to love songs before you know, what love is. Right. When you're a kid. You're like, oh, this is intense stuff. But what what is it? I don't know. There's a moldy piece of toes. Right. And it's making you feel grove. You know, look away. Hey, have you seen all of this talk about Tom Izzo going after Aaron Henry Michigan state coach going after one of his players Blake and are looking at the video this morning. We're like what is the problem here? Why are people talking about this? I mean, it's it's not Bobby Knight throwing a chair across the hardwood. It's a coach appearing to be a coach. And having some has having some words with one of his players. Some people feel that a coach's job is to nurture and positive reinforcement. Only. This is March madness. All right. We're done territory here. Okay. Well, it looks like parents are going to great lengths to ensure their kids are happy campers not just that they go to elite colleges. But though that they're having fun during the summer in sports camps camp counselors are weighing in on this college emission scandal. And they're saying, Yep. We've seen it. Christopher Tucci is thirty years old. He is a sports camp counselor who has coached at elite camps in New Jersey LA in Colorado. And he says he has had parents tried to bribe him into getting their kids a spot on the roster. It's the same thing. It's the phony athletic angle, he says I've had everything from parents bribing me with money or free services. No. If they own a house cleaning business, they'll clean it. Oh. A window replacement company. They'll give him free windows. Not what you're not like, the Robert Kraft thing. No. Love the disappointed tone. You just stuck. Expect me I own a local massage establishment. If you let my kid in the summer camp come on over you'll be very happy when it's over rarely shocked. So I wouldn't be surprised he said I had a parent in line offer the parent in front of them one hundred dollars change places on the line. He also, and this is different than I guess bribery. But the parents will find out who is already signed up and then go to those families and try to talk them out of going to the camp and opening up a slot. Yes. The average cost of a week long camp is about three hundred and fourteen dollars. According to the American camp association. Sleep away camp averages about seven hundred sixty eight dollars per week can go up to more than fifteen hundred weekly and then there are specialized camps like stem, robotics and computer science. I can cost a thousand dollars a week. Now, there's financial assistance at the vast majority of these accredited camps. The problem is the spots fill up so fast. It doesn't matter. Even if you would qualify. There's no spot for you anymore. Right. The registration for the recreation summer camp in summit, New Jersey opened on January second and the camp now has more than fifty people on its wait list. The camp even sends out save the date. Emails to parents is early as December the sign up goes live at eight thirty AM and fills up in two hours. So there you go desperate. Parents will do anything to cheat the system. Oh, this is really gross. I guess they offer a reduced rate to financially needy families. But what you have to do is you have to show the that. You're getting reduced lunch at their school. That's how you would show your need. And people are forging the reduced lunch form. Boy. That's that's kind of the opposite of bribery. Right. Briberies like super rich. Here's a bunch of money. Do what I want. And this is the it's like, we're really poor take pity on us. But you're not really poor. There's a woman in New York. She is a consultant her name's Jill typically raff, and she charges these parents four hundred dollars an hour. Two two. The the specialized summer camp experience that would be perfect for their child's. This is like the travel agents we were talking about with with the vacations that will help you realize your actual ization, her her companies called everything summer, and it helps families decide on the best summer program for their kids by interviewing them about their hobbies and interests gosh dollars an hour to go like this. Hey, jake. What do you like to do? I like computers. You know what? That computer camp. You get four hundred dollars an hour's worth says, she turns away clients when parents come to us wanting to do things that are not within our morals, and integrity, or the way we work we nicely. Explain the answer is no. Who what what against our morals and integrity? What's that all about? Oh, maybe she's saying that parents come to her and say figure out a way to get me into that summit New Jersey camp that my kid really wants to go to it's sold out earn. I'm on a wait list. So pull some strings, but that's not to get that avion water freed up, but her gig is not having juice with the camps heard. Her gig is finding the best do you think you she ever get to this? My kid, really loves computer. I want you to push him into baseball. Oh, she says. Maximo? I bet that is accurate. That's sad. That makes you don't need to hire anybody if if you have any relationship with your child and you're looking for a summer camp that fits their interest. You don't need to hire an expert. You already know what your kid likes to do? I don't think a lot of people talk to their kids. So they have to pay somebody four hundred dollars. Can you talk to my brat for me and find out what the hell he likes? So I know where warehouse him for the summer. All right coming up next. We will talk to the convicted felon who has been very popular ever since this college admissions scandal broke because what he does is. He helps people who are going to prison. What's it gonna be like, how do I survive what's going on? We'll talk to him when we come back. Gary, and Shannon, Wayne Resnick here and Amy.
