"It's total organization that wins and it was one fantastic organization on owner like Ralph Wilson, the general manager, like Bill Walsh and John Butler, director of player personnel, then general manager. Uh, and the one thing we did did say when I was interviewed with Ralph Wilson, You know what you're looking for in players, Marvin. I outlined a few things I said, but we're looking on Lee for guys with guys for high character. Their personalities made different some extroverts. Some might be more introverted. But do they show up for work on time? Do they not blame their their teammates or somebody else if something goes wrong? And I remember those years. So So finally, ah, in buffalo and great fans, great fans and I remember once after when we lost that first. That first Super Bowl game. We came back in town. You may recall this there. We were busted downtown into the animal was City Hall or what? But there were 30,000 fans down in the square. The greet us and Harrison and I, I did men and to welcome back Scott Norwood and the boosted morale. And that's when we all felt that you were pointing out to the fans are the reason that we will go back. And, uh, I do remember one time on one of my Colin shows with Paul Maguire. However, after we had lost our second Super Bowl game, I got a call from one fan, said coach Please don't go back this overall. I can't take it. I can't stand the pain when they lose again. I I did. I don't want you to go back. Please is and I just told him I said, Sir, I understand your anguish. I feel it. I'm glad you're not on my team. Now, Marvin in reading up a little bit more on your CFL career. I believe I read and you can corroborate whether is accurate or not. You were not only the coach, but where did you serve his GM up there, too, with Montreal at the same time. No, I was not the GM. Okay, I know you were the GM hearing. Think he wanted to appoint me as GM when J. Albrecht left, But there was a guy in the organization really had done it so well. And I pointed that out to our owner, Sam Burger guy named Bob Geary. And, uh, I am I really that Bobby made the general man. Okay, Fair enough. So I'll take it in a different direction. You did, sir. Come back here to serve his GM of the bills. Um Having said in both of those chairs on knowing the inter workings between coaching GM from both seats. Can you just kind of walk us through the kinds of conversations that those two people in those two positions need toe have to make sure they're in lockstep going into a draft, for example. Yeah, well, first of all, yeah. Oh, you talk and talk and talk leading up to the draft forever. And, you know, you have to realize that you know if you got a good working relationship you're going to be about 85% together, and you might disagree about 15%. But it was so forces the trust Had in in, uh Bill Polian and John Butler toe work with them. And even my brief period back there is general manager. I had high regard. I think he should have been kept longer. He would have done better for Dick to Iran. I think It would have done a rising better job given the time but no, it can't be. I was fortunate. The general managers I worked with were We're always pretty darn good people and, uh, someone may be trying to be bullies and so on. They have strong opinions and That Sometimes you do disagree a little bit. And I remember speaking of disagreeing, I'm drifting a little bit from from the question. By the fire. Disagreeing, Um I remember once you remember this, Steve probably were two of our coaches. Um, Tom Bresnahan and Nick Nick allow got in a fight on an argument over something in our team meeting. And, uh, now Ralph Wilson called me in They want me to fire on both. And I pleaded with Mr Wilson. No, Mr Wilson. They're good guys, a good coaches. They know what they're doing, and I figured I might get myself. Fired by that position. And Ralph said to me said Ah, I still don't agree with you, but you're the coach. Okay. Keep him here. And a couple of years later he told me they were among his favorite guys. Yeah, Those guys remember that those guys did get into a fight, And then the next week they're having breakfast in the hotel at the next game. I mean, they're you know, they're sitting down there, the two of them. That's the way football is sometimes particularly when your when your passion about it one last thing I have for you, Marvis as we roll down the road here you were a head coach. The NFL past the age of 70 thing you were 72. When you coach your last season on Bill Bell, a check of the New England Patriots is still coaching. How what? What keeps You know, Coach is able to be Energetic because I just had a birthday and I'm ready to retire. And I'm not even 60 s. So what? What keeps you guys energized? And how long do you think Ah, guy like Bill Belichick? Are you even you yourself? What kept you going for so long? Oh, wow. Wonderful organization. Uh, quote Jim Kelly. Um, when? When no one ever wants to come the buffalo But once they're there, no one ever wanted to leave it. And your example of that, by the way, some guy from Kansas, but I don't know I I love the game. We had great players. We had a great organization. The team owner made a big difference. And believe it or not, Steve, about a year or two after I retired, I sort of city. Maybe I did it to assume, you know, but I need to get a deep breath there. Or somewhere, Marv. Last one for me, and we appreciate the time is always. Ah, I know that the 2020. And we'll see. And I'm I'm just throwing this out there. We just gotta promise from from a pro football of Famer that you'll be they'll be in there at some point. That means Yeah, I'll tell you having Marv say it means more to me than when you say it puts a little weight puts a little weight behind. It puts a little weight. Find it. I'm not gonna I'm just saying, I'm just saying I'm not saying Marv's a suicide her, but he's in He knows what it takes to get in, and he just promised you're getting in, so I don't know who he knows down there in him, But it's a pretty interesting if it comes to pass be pretty interesting if it comes to pass, so yeah, and I have no problem with Marv saying and carry more weight than me saying And who the hell am I, Um we have to take a break, but when we come back, we're getting back to our draft talk. He wanted to do this to a number women because he probably enjoyed the challenge. Enjoyed the danger of it. All and today mike florio from pro football taco used to be a lawyer. He gives all this advice florio and it's reasonable. He said he'd sit down and try to get all the women or their representative in a room to make one big settlement trying to make it all. Go away with one big paycheck that they could and they clearly are looking for that because they're not having gone to the cops which brings me to point number two and end to the point where they try to basically extort him out of thirty one of them tried to extort him out of thirty grand in january. It would be the first time ever that quarterbacks go with each of the first four picks in the draft. We take a look at the rest of mel's top ten. After the four consecutive quarterbacks we see some other names you will get to know. Kyle pitch superstar tight end. More pass catchers jamarcus devante smith jail waddell notably absent on this screen. Max jones the fifth quarterback in this first round the star from alabama who mel projects. Going number fifteen to the new england patriots and let's start there because mel we spoke about this the last time you broke this down for us. You had max jones going considerably higher namely number eight overall. Why do you see this drop. Greenwich carolina eight with matt rule had max jones at the senior bowl practices where he was exceptional right. So you figure carolina's stuck at eight. They would look at mack. Jones new england and fifteen is built. Bellichik nick sabin connection and obviously looking at a quarterback to get back to. Maybe the tom brady days. Okay get your that type of quarterback which is what mack jones is his style and the way he goes about his business as a pocket passer so once carolina in my mach three point. Zero was moving up to get justin field. Mack jones next opportunity to come off. The board for me would be new england at fifteen.

Houston Texans' new GM Nick Caserio says team has 'zero interest in trading' QB Deshaun Watson

"All the talk of trading the shawn watson trading show. i want to be traded. Matter of fact the weeks ago we had not heard from the houston. Texans we started the show by saying like look i. I don't know how to break it to you. But the us is don't actually have to trade shawn watson. He signed a contract after they hired after they traded new cop-killer that contract paid him. Seventy three million dollars up front in cash which is not just signing bonus for the first year and for the contract but for this coming year and the following year. He's already been paid for those years so money. They can't recoup they're not gonna just go away. We paid you for three years. You played one. You have good. You have a good run. You have a good life. Plus there's a tax bill not a tax bill. There's a dead cap money if he leaves like the whole thing is not great. And what's the best case scenario in the draft. A quarterback to become watson doesn't. Oh yeah i i should mention that if you trade to shawn watson in basically the first year of his new deal fifth what does it say about anybody else contract with texans at once out nick. Caserio is the new general manager of the texans. He came from new england patriots and he had this to say at his press conference about an hour ago. Just want to reiterate our commitment to shawn watson. he's had a great impact on this organization. A great impact on a lot of people great impact on the team and we look forward the opportunity to spend more time with them here this spring once we get started and we have zero interest in trading the player We have a great plan vision for for him and for this team and his role in our team and we look forward to the opportunity to spend more time with them. Here this spring. That was nick caserio. The new gentlemen andrews just like hey look we look forward to spend. Tom is first statement. We have no intention of trading. Do i think he's telling the truth i do. I think it's highly unlikely they trade him now. If somebody says like we'll give you the kitchen sink then sure you gotta consider it. You gotta consider it.

"I don't know. I don't know what they think but all those options I think next to Meijer. Yeah. There's this if you don't do it this year, I mean because again the opportunity cost is so low, it's you have so many free agents. They can't all be paid and you have a ton of options in that draft to so the people who don't want to pay free agents can use them on draft picks. If you're the Patriots you got to do both. Yeah. I think you gotta go free agency a wide receiver off. I'm saying a long time because you need to see a guy that succeeds doing things in the NFL that you already can tell Will translate into your system. I think with these college guys, the passing offenses wage coverages that they see in college are just so much different from what you see in the pros. You see so little press Matt and the pro in the problem here would be established got the here's the biggest dilemma with the Patriots, you know, you could always look to sign and or draft a guy that fit this offense and in in particular Brady, you know, they make the big play for Adam Humphries, you know, because he would have fit Brady in this office is a type of guy that Brady would like to throw to you don't know who you're tailoring that towards right now. So I mean, I think you have to just look at Talent as objectively as possible without any regard for who's going to be throwing the ball and say this guy is just a football player. He can beat you he can win, you know enough things where he can do anything here I'd wage. Think but you know Bill and the Patriots have their type of guys, you know, and this is going to be the big dilemma. Heading in is it does not work anymore and not only has the game changed as your team change the point that the type of guys that bill looks at and says that's a football player. I know it when I see it. Absolutely. That's the guy is that still the case? I I just think the biggest thing to me check with the wide receivers in the draft is I am not confident at all in their ability to one evaluate the wide receiver position in the development and then to develop that guy once he gets home. I hope whatsoever that they're capable of doing that based off of what they've seen what we've seen. I mean, it's not just the DK Metcalf Deebo Samuel Terry McLaurin AJ Brown Conversation Over nuclear. It's honestly looking at that pic and saying how did they think n'keal Harry was the best receiver out of that group McColl Harmony can throw him in there to judge them? Do you as an evaluator? Look at those options on the board and say Hey, you know, we actually like n'keal Harry more than we like AJ Brown. I just don't see how you can come away with that. So if they struggle so much with kind of projecting that position into their office and into their system and into the NFL game then just get a guy that's already proven that he's a great player at this level and let him be who he is, you know, get Courtney Davis and let Corey Davis run Corey Davis type of routes Crossing routes, you know deep verticals things like that. Let get Allen Robinson and turn him into a contested catch guy here because that's what he's really good at. If you could do those types of things with a pro Talent that's already proven himself in this league and already has things that work for him in this league. It's a much easier transition. And then at that point you can go into the draft. I think I am a little bit more comfortable with them taking a tight end..

"I think what we're seeing and I wrote about this just now is just we need to embrace this offense in what it is is that it's a run Centric offense and I think what we were seeing at a Josh McDaniels in particular he deserves a lot of credit for scheming it up in the running game. We've talked a lot about the last couple of weeks defense is playing eight guys in the box with low safeties and kind of King on that run game. So what did McDaniels do this week? You realize that they needed to come up with ways to even the numbers back up. And so he used option runs to use the Wildcat formation a couple of times. He was able to get situations where the page we're seeing an eight-man box. But because of cams legs they were able to even up the numbers with him it being a focal point of the running game. So they also what I thought was really smart as they watched the tape of that Buffalo game and off Joey Bosa just absolutely dominate the game three sacks, right quarterback pressures and get three tackles-for-loss in the Run game on top of all that forced a fumble. So they made him the read defender on all those awful plays. So he's just sitting there trying to read out Cam Newton and instead of getting up the field and blowing them off the ball. He was kind of left in no man's land trying to defend the option place. So really smart kind of wrinkles nearby McDaniels to put both in Conflict throughout the entire game. And then the last one that I kind of went over in that post was the RPO package with the two running backs, which was just really awesome job. Sony Michelle and Damien Harris on the field at the same time and the Patriots are running rpos RPO bubble screens mostly where they have a trap run on the inside and then a bubble screen on the outside and I was just reading that overhang Defender to the weak side of the formation and he's able to kind of decipher. Should I hand it off or throw it out there? They haven't thrown it out there that the screen yet. I'm waiting for them to get that looked to be able to do that. But I just think it's really cool to see how McDaniels is saying. Okay. This is what we are right. We're not going to be this prolific downfield passing attack, especially with the way the cams throwing the ball right now. So I need to scheme it up. I need to figure out ways to make sure that this running game can still go and that's exactly what they were able to do.

"You know, they had trouble sleeping read-option designed quarterback run types of schemes All Season mom's of your Pittsburgh. You don't want to see Cam Newton. You don't want to see this Patriots running game cuz that's the one sort of weakness of their defense that you can take advantage of and then similarly on the other side of the ball, they match up great against any wide receiver in core. I will put this secondary up against any passing attack in the league. Whether it's Kansas City or Pittsburgh or this one in in the Chargers have found a great year so far and they were able to shut everybody down. So, I don't know I think that ultimately the the sort of the whole started saying is that nobody wants to play the Patriots right? Nobody else. Going to want to see the Patriots in the playoffs. I actually think that's really going to hold true. Especially if the Patriots get into some bad weather gets situations and you know, you getting out gets colder and it gets no easier and even other parts back to Pittsburgh and we got a Snow Game on our hands and heavily favors the Patriots, you know or Kansas City to it gets freezing there also. So this secondary can match up against anybody bill can scheme it up with anybody. We know that on the defense, right and then ultimately comes down to match up wise can they get into a match up where they can run the football effectively can they get into a matchup where it run defense of the opponent is either week or they can get into a game plan is a game script. Like we saw Maybe not today, but more closer to like the Cardinals game or what we saw against Baltimore where they're really just able to kind of pick their spots with the passing game. But ultimately we're off well down the road but I do think that they have a they're looking a lot better than people thought maybe even just a month ago. I mean we were talking about tanking and picking in the top five and going after birth. Quarterbacks in the draft and we still are we still are that. I see it on every single day. Actually somebody, you know write something about who's the quarterback and the in 2021, right? You know, who's going to be the guy in twenty Twenty-One. Well, the 2015 is still playing and they're pretty solid, you know, they're not the Patriots of old. They're not the 07 paths and all the 2014 Pat's, you know, they're not that great. Right but they're also still very very good. I think sometimes we get caught up in this kind of minutia of the Patriots because they have been such a dominant team in the past and we forget that most teams would take a tenant six season all every day. On Sundays. It's been six for a lot of teams ask Jets fans if they would like to be 6 and 6 right now. That's what's going to kill you again looking back as if the Patriots do get to say 10 and 6 or 9:00 and 7 which I think is dead certainly realistic and possible. You're going to look at Denver San Francisco Buffalo Seattle particularly Seattle in Buffalo these games you had right there for Thursday. Taking and just couldn't that that one or two wins? The ones that again those were the Tom Brady wins the winds that you in close games late the Patriots.

"To do this game in and game out then they're going to win some games in the back half. Is it going to be tough? I don't know but they're going to win some games. I know but that's again where you start to say every game seems losable because you've seen them Get Smoked by San Francisco an ugly game against Denver. If you're going to lose to these teams, certainly you could lose to some of the opponents left on the remainder of the Slate, but then also your name And say yeah Texans certainly winnable game, right? Sure. Yeah. They're they're they're tough. But you Chargers Rams dolphins dolphins are playing great right now with us again Jets. I mean you finish with those three AFC East games. You're not looking at the schedule saying I mean the Baltimore game was penciled in as a loss and they want it. There's no other game here, you're penciling in an automatic loss each week you enter it and say this is winnable. And so again you start to stack a few of this together things change. What gets a little tricky here is the AFC is insanely top-heavy right now with teams with creatures have to climb a few. Yeah, they got basically Ten teams fighting for the seven spots if you include the Patriots and the Patriots are the only like everybody else six and three really sub five hundred T. It's it's going to be a long uphill battle for them to be able to fight their way back in the play-offs, but I'll take this over what we saw against Denver when we song Against the Niners at least be competitive in last two weeks that we've gotten a decent product. I mean tonight in the first half. I thought that was the best product football product that we probably gotten that was their best half football both sides of the ball. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah again something to build on still a lot of people out here Evan. I want to see if anybody wants to say anything here in the chat or is it just it's all people just talk about what they're going to do at quarterback next year and and and the kill hatred. Yes because I did I have a lot of the family wedding everybody who's better than the Keel. Yeah. They just like to get me going that they said you were viewer better on when you also better receiver than the Keel. We should give the offense of line some credit though. I feel like I haven't given them enough credit their job at run blocking is it's fun to watch. I know it's not necessarily the the sexiest thing to talk about and we all love to see the Deep ball. We all love to see them, you know, throw them. Fall and things like that. Everybody's clamouring to see them throw the ball, but in terms of the run-blocking, this is an absolute clinic for about three-quarters on how to run block crack tosses lead box off our counter. I so I mean it was everything right they just they had the whole repertoire throwing everything add them. They had some extremely thunderous double-team box to Michael. I knew in Jack Mason on the right side Joe Toney and Isaiah Wynn on the left side. Just moving the offensive line played a man's game tonight. Yeah, that's just I mean at the end of the day that's football right down in the trenches and your guys against our guys and tonight the Patriots guys want the first half that offensive line set a tone and that that really that really was it for the game. "I don't know if this is Belichick. I don't know if it's the young players are finally just growing up and we're halfway through the song. Is in and I feel more comfortable playing some of these guys or Belichick stubbornness. He finally looked at it and said I gotta play the young kids and see what we have with it. I'm not sure but they now or he just felt he needed to be more athletic against this Ravens team and our fear is Evan that he goes back to the other. He goes back to the other thing in Houston and you're like, you can't and I joined them as a team captain. He has a role on this team that he can play as a first down linebacker. It landed Roberts his role last year right just play him on first down let him stop the run off but guys like to resolve guys like Duggar and Phillips and the Box they have to play more. They you can't be playing Juwan Bentley 87% of the snaps any more you gotta get some more speed and athleticism on the 5th. So continuously just all year long. I think we've been really hard on the coaching staff and rightfully. So in a lot of ways just not playing the best guys not being creative with the person. Yep. Getting guys on the field that deserved to be on the field and just sort of being stubborn and their old ways of you know, this is our prototypical Mike linebacker. So we have to have this type of linebacker play. They're so foul play Bentley because he's that type of guy. Well now we're have the ability to see that what they've get more athletic when they get younger when they get guys that just want to run and hit and see color. You can definitely play a lot better Thursday fence and what we saw the beginning part of the season. So Kyle Joshua J. All these guys like I keep saying keep playing them. They need to keep playing a moving saying it for weeks now Belichick just now at the podium this Thursday. I mean again, you know, it's hard to it's hard to extract or glean much from what Belichick says but he did say that he thinks they're headed in the right direction here, which is a compliment because it means I like what I see here. And again if we talked about wanting to see a continuation of what we saw tonight Visa V, you know, more of the younger players playing a game And in putting them out there, hopefully this was again for Belichick a game where he thought we're going to try something different and this is going to be a new Direction. So we'll see what happens here. Closing thoughts again Evan before we wrap it up and I'll let you go running and and do all of your post-game still talk a lot about the defense. I guess I'll just wrap it with the offense. I think since really the second half of that Buffalo game slowly been kind of finding themselves offensively and finding the right mix and match of Cameron's regular runs trick plays, you know, not doing all that smoke and mirrors type of stuff all the time but having just enough enough touch of it and obviously discovering Jacoby Myers is actually a Julian Edelman level of Route Runner right now is a huge kind of developing in this offense is path, but if you can.

"Look ahead to Houston. That's what they got next week, right. I got Houston. I got super not impressive today. I don't think like that seems like a pretty winnable game. Well for sure for the Patriots here, you know, and and that's going to be in Houston. So the settings going to be a bit different here. You think the Patriots will change that game plan a tad heading into their home. I'm sure they'll change it cuz they always change it and that's sort of what I don't want them to get too caught up in every single week. We hear this from Bill Belichick. Oh, why isn't Chase winovich playing? Oh the game plan. Why isn't Joshua J playing? Well, he's not really a Mike linebacker. So it didn't fit the situation. So again the game plan, right and in this sort of the situation of the whole thing and when I look at them I say, okay, you know look in a normal year when you have the noise and high towers and and Collins's and all these guys ahead of these younger players on the depth chart and you can afford to kind of bring them along slowly off. Fine, but now this team needs Kyle Duggars. They need Joshua J. They need playmaking and they need athleticism made explosiveness. And that's what all that those are all the things that those guys gave. Kyle Duggar needs to be on a regular on this defense moving forward. He needs to be an every-down player. He should not come off the field unless he's hurt. So let's hope he's not hurt right you should not come off the field because he's really a productive guy that they have at running and chasing and hitting people and bringing physicality while also being able to play in space. They don't have enough guys like that in Dugger is one of the few that they do have one thing to talk about Evan not necessarily an ex has no thing here, but you you know again just letting everybody know Evan is at Gillette Stadium right now Patriots are talking off in their break off rooms. "The second half, but I think they're what they did get out of him was some physical play and with Jacoby and with the mirror bird, they don't really have another guy. That's that physical so he did his job. Tonight. I mean it's not what you've drafted him in the first round for right? You know, you're not asking a first-round pick to just block it. I'm not having this conversation tonight. I swear bringing it up because brunch is now why you drafted the guy I get that but if he can do what he did tonight within the structure of this offense and that's a skill set that they could use that that's all it is. Yeah, and again, it doesn't mean that's all he'll ever be able to do. But again, there's always a little bit of excitement when he's out there cuz you're always wondering what if what what the game where he starts to kind of pop it open and just didn't seem like it was in the cards again. It's a nice it back in situation. Maybe the game didn't call for it. Again. You want to see him start to get involved in some way or another because you're going to need more than just again. The running game is great. You just need more options than just your Kobe Myers. You don't know if you're getting Edelman back Isaiah for it. I don't know if he did. He see the field. No, I don't think so. And and look look, I think the biggest thing is is that we can brag on the Keel. The people are doing that we can drag on the Keel we can say he's a bus we can say they should have drafted DK Metcalf off, bus, but a lot of those things are true about n'keal Harry, but at the end of the day with the depth chart they have at Wide Receiver right now. What do you want? Do you want n'keal Harry out there or do you want Gonna Roll out there? Right when they go 11 and they go three-wide. Do you want your top three wide receivers to include a gunner olszewski type or do you want them not even to be able to go three-wide cuz they don't have the depth there and when go too wide and they and they get into that Twenty-One personnel, which they rode for most of this game. He is an effective blocker. So that's all there is to it. He's a better blocker than Gunner. I don't think Gunnar is really making any money. Missing the open field or getting open with dynamic route-running or anything like that. So if you're going to pick gunner in that situation, then you're crazy. You're just you're talking crazy. I mean, it's it's fine, but it's just not at all accurate. Let me put you that.

"The biggest issue is the defense especially on first and second down. Well, they were significantly better. I guess they're really good first and second-down team run defense was surprisingly much better like, oh, yeah, the run defense they gave up 4.1 yards-per-carry but a lot of that was Lamar scrambles. Yep, not designed actual running plays. So you kind of take that with a grain of salt. He's finally Belichick. I say he Belichick is finally seeming to let the young guys play a little bit more than finding ways to play his more talented players, even if it's not the traditional cookie cutter roll for Chase winovich to play inside linebacker. He's clearly one of their seven best guys in the front seven. You gotta put down. Find a place for him to play to find a place for me to play with her its edge off the call wherever just find a place a spot for him cuz he's that talented and that's what they were able to do tonight. It's almost like these small ball and they use dial lineups. Like sometimes you just gotta play your best players and then just figure it out as you go and again too many. I know Belichick one of the if you're going to say there's a a fault is that he definitely likes his older guys. He's experienced guys has guys who know their roles and what they're supposed to do and he's always going to default to that before just running a bunch of Athletic kids out there and just being like, all right guys, just chase the ball around and do your best so they chased around tonight. That's what I wanted them to do what they did. Yeah, but these speed on the field put some athleticism on you'll put some Hunger on the field guys that want to get after and want to change after the ball and I think that that's what we saw Duggar tonight wasn't perfect. He he got when him about it a couple of different times tackling attempts were not great. Some of his own drops were not participate. A gray but he is hungry. He runs to the football. He Pursuits the ball. He does things that other players on this team so far this year have not necessarily done and he's doing it if he's going to make a mistake. He's at least making it fast and that's all you can really ask for right now is the Patriots defense. Yeah. Let's let's get into one Defender here JC Jackson wage. Sorry, I put up the wrong graphic here. But JC V straight game with an interception. I'm an off of you know, a so-so game not a social game a game in which need some criticism rightfully. So but he was it wasn't just the interception. He was terrific all night here again kind of stepping into that number one corner role and again you had guys on Hollywood Brown sometimes McCourty was on him and McCourty acquitted himself nicely early in the game too as well. So a huge bounce-back game for the secondary that got Eat Dog. A little bit last week. Yeah, so that stutter and go move from Hollywood brown with JC Jackson was not having any of it. Right and I think that's such a great play of understanding the situation it would McCourty buried him on the subject line too. If JC Jackson if Hollywood Brown stops that route down and catches it in front of him. There's 30 seconds left in the half. What's the worst that's going to happen. So he completes a 6-yard off to Hollywood brown with 20 seconds left in the second quarter. So what so when he stutters and goes he stays on top of the road because he knows damn. Well, the only thing I can't do is let the ball go over my head, right?.

"Is a different feel than what you were getting with Sony with Sony Michelle, even though you would think that they're kind of sort of in the same mold of running back. You know, I think what we're seeing with Damien Harris is a Next Level understanding of how to manipulate defense Defenders, especially at the second level of the defense. So his big 25-yard run. I put it up on Twitter page. He's leading. It's a fullback lead play and he's following Jakob Johnson through the Gap, right and as he's following Jakob Johnson, he's seeing the linebackers at the second level flowing to the full back right back to fullback lead Play Everybody in the stadium knows it's going right behind the full-back. So the whole defense converges behind the full-back, so he follows right behind the fullback and then at the corner of his eye he kind of sees the second level of the defense come back with him. And so then he cuts it back to the next Gap over and there's just nobody home because everybody's flowing to the outcome Johnson. So just use a little manipulations. I posted another one where they had a fullback Wham play on Thursday But the guy through you got Johnson with him and the Ravens defensive line basically stood everybody up at the line of scrimmage, but they were able to get the edge and and Damien Harris just saw that page really unfold saw the the Ravens had its doubt upfront but then realized that the edge Defender the defensive end had crept inside to try to plug up that Gap and he just bounces it right out to the corner and he have another first down run those little types of plays here and there where it's not necessarily about dancing out of a bunch of tackles and being super Elusive and being Barry Sanders out there. It's mostly about understanding where the goal of the play is to hit and how you can manipulate the defense based off of them knowing where you're going sort of thing. Yeah, and just just hit it and that's and that's why it does happen. Again. We talked about Cam Newton. This was Again part of it as whether but I mean almost like early in the year level conservative play-calling with him home..

"Good good post game show. That was something we talked about a prior to the game this month felt like a possible coach it up win for the Patriots and they got it 23-17. They played a very very well-thought-out executed well-coached game both sides of the ball game. They slayed the giant here Evan. Yeah. I think that's where we have to start is, you know, Bill Belichick in the Patriots coaching staff Josh McDaniels. They've taken a lot of flak here of late both became their decision-making in games game planning play calling but also decisions in personnel with Belichick, you know, coaching decisions, but also in terms of GM decisions as well Drafting and things like that tonight, they got great performances out of their young guys. They played the game the way they need to play the game. They knew that if they could get a lead on Baltimore and forced Lamar Jackson to throw his way back in the game. They were going to have an advantage. They use their personnel on defense followed still Limited in a lot of areas. It's the best possible grouping that they could get on the field out there tonight. We could break that down a little bit too long and then obviously leading on that running game, which is in the elite elite running game. This is not you know, there's no sugar. There's no real say how much better you can get as a running team than what the Patriots are right now. They thought world knows they're running the football you're handing it off to Damien Harris and yet they're still able to move the football which is really impressive. Yeah and Evan, you know, and again we've talked about it basically all year the formula for success is that is what they is what they did tonight is you have to run the ball the way that they did and gain those get those six seven yards early on first down if you're going to be able to do that get yourself in a second in shorts third and shorts that are manageable shrink this playbook for Kim Newton man was a trunk tonight. They did not ask him to do much and in fact, I mean If you look at the final numbers, I mean, he didn't attempt a pass to a receiver. That wasn't named Jacoby Myers all night. It was Jacoby and then the backs and that was in that it was off hand off the hand off the Rock and that's all they did all all night long and it worked they they did get into a bit of prevent offense mode there in the fourth quarter where it was it was absolutely pouring down here. It was even know that on soon. And I think the worst thing that you could have done in that situation cuz I know it's frustrating to watch the Raven's Claw their way back into this game slowly, but surely to make it off it interesting there. But if you guys could have seen the rain that was coming out on that field. The worst thing that you could have done was dropped back to pass and have Cam Newton fumble or throw it interception or something like that and give the Ravens favorable position. So they played field position. They punted the ball off. They got them in deep and they were able to get out of there with a win that that had to happen because of the rain. Yeah, and and and it is amazing cuz home And so everybody knows Evans somewhere tucked away in a press room at Gillette Stadium right now..

"We're gearing up for the highly-anticipated match up between the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. I'm Sarah Goodwill here with Evan Lazar. We're finally out Wednesday the big first preparation day for the Patriots on the practice field heading into their matchup against Patrick Mahomes. Let's talk about that offense because obviously they put on a show against the Ravens on Monday Night Football. That's just how special is this offense in our difficult. Will it be for this Patriots defense? Well, it gives me a very 2007 Patriots field with this team maybe a zero three or four page where it just feels inevitable that they're going to get to their game. Now, obviously stylistically, they're very different from those two Patriot teams, but in terms of the fact that they're on a 12-game winning streak right now and it doesn't really feel like it's ending any time soon in terms of their dominance of the league. We haven't really seen this outside of New England all that much. Maybe Green Bay and 2010-11 with with Aaron Rodgers, but for the most part this domination, Is really just been the Patriots over the last couple of decades and nobody else. So I'm not saying that the Chiefs are about the Roloff six Super Bowls. I'm not sure if that's necessarily going to happen, but they're certainly they do what they do and they do it extremely. Well. I went Patrick Mahomes. He has blossomed I think taking it even the step further because now mentally he's dominating the game. So the Baltimore Ravens through a lot of different Blitz packages at him on Monday night and he went 15 4 19 with three touchdowns against their blitz. So it's really you can't Blitz them. You can't play Man coverage against the guys in the back and you can't play zone cuz they're too fast and they're just going to run right through all the bound. So what do you do against this offense is pretty much holed up in man coverage as best as you can and pray that that's pretty much all I can come up with at this point like you just did it's so easy to get home soon as kids City offense, but they're pretty solid defensively as well. What do you yeah from that side of the ball and how the Patriots can kind of explain what it says. Well, I think that's what we've seen out of this dead. Is that you know, a lot of Patriots fans could probably relate to the 2011 Patriots or the 2010 Patriots where they have these great offenses, but the defense wasn't holding up its end of the bargain I think similarly with Kansas City over the last couple of years. The defense really didn't hold up its end of the bargain then last year it finally all came together. Now, they play complimentary football and Steve Spagnola their defensive coordinator is a known Patriots Kryptonite type of guy. He's off see the defensive coordinator the 07 Giants which we don't need to talk about right now, but he's a very men pressure heavy guy, you know, man coverage on the back end with pressure in the front seven. Chris Jones is obviously the big kind of guy in the middle of the defense that everybody's going to circle and you're going to have to have some sort of game plan against him. He is impossible to block Frank Clark on the edge is pretty solid to Tyrann Mathieu. We know what he can do in the secondary. So this need as much improved. I think that's why they went from AFC East Contender afci considers in general. I should say that now Super Bowl champions. It's not necessarily because the Patrick Mahomes I think it was also a lot to do with them. Events taking the next step as well. "The. The! Deadline was Wednesday for the New England patriots in Joe -Tuni- to reach an extension in in happen. So, what does that mean? I'm Sierra goodwill here with Evan Lazar now we know that cap hit is high for Tunisia. But why do you think this decision was ultimately made by both your organization, in Tunisia to not agree to an extension yet while for tuning, this is a great deal for him. You know you walk home with fifteen million bucks for one year of service. You'RE NOT GONNA. Complain too much and really I think what. What happened with the negotiation is for weeks. Now sort of the the word on the street is that the two sides are pretty far apart? There's an sizable gap between where he wants to be where the team feels comfortable, extending him a lot of the reason why some of these franchise tag players are not reaching extensions with their teams Dak Prescott Donnegan Gawk Way -Tuni-. Other guys is because of the pandemic teams are kind of reluctant to hand out. Big money deals not knowing exactly how the salary cap is going to be. Impacted here by Covid Nineteen, so I think the biggest thing for the Patriots and -Tuni- is that they get them around here for one more season they put an offensive line in front of whoever's under center that's going to give them a rock solid unit upfront and revisited with Judy next offseason, but right now they're pretty far apart. We'll the current circumstances definitely could have played into this Kobe nineteen economic impacts of that. Probably on both tuning and the Patriots mind. Do you think these two will come to an extension agreement in the future? Because obviously the patriots value -Tuni- as a player right and they can also still trade -Tuni- on the tag. I should mention that just because this deadline has passed doesn't mean that the trade is off the table but I don't think the trade is necessarily going to happen. Because of those grievance settlements that they got within Tonio. Brown and Aaron Hernandez. They have that wiggle room now on the CAP, so they don't necessarily need to go in there and get a contract extension done to lower his cap number this season because they're tied up. Up against it, so with that wiggle room with that cushion, I think that they will keep him this year and not trade him, but that being said in terms of what the future holds for Joe Tony, he is going to get a top of the market deal. He one of the best pass protectors among any offensive Lineman, tackle-center or guard. He's one of the best the league protecting the passer. That's obviously what the League is all about nowadays so I think that the Patriots are going to have to offer him a very competitive market deal to keep him in new. "The. In cloudy now linked to the New England patriots I'm Sierra goodwill here with Evan Lazar in just like Cam Newton. It seemed like a very far fetched idea that this would ever be possible because we know the Patriots were up against it when it came to the salary cap. Now we have some money. They have some space. Why does this make center white? Could this happen in? County could potentially come to New England now while it's just I offset. Offset this is all just internet rumor in hype at this point nothing from inside the organization at saying that cloudy is a real possibility, but with that being said this is sort of that perfect storm similar to Cam Newton. Where cloudy still on the market, there's clearly some pas about giving him a long term deal I, think both injury and the global pandemic are kind of combining into this perfect storm for cloudy where teams are reluctant to give out. Out Big money contracts with big term and big years on them right now, because of what's going on with the pandemic, unless you're the Kansas City chiefs, I guess that is, and then on top of that cloudy last year in Seattle, only three and a half three sacks. Excuse me for the seahawks a year ago, not exactly big pass. rusher statistics are big pass rusher production for him to cash out in free agency so now all the sudden cloudy. Cloudy is still without a team or a couple of weeks away training camp ESPN's John. Clayton is reporting that he opening or entertaining his mind to one of those one year, proven deals similarly to Cam Newton maybe in the eight to nine to ten million dollar range, so that eight to ten million dollar range it could be affordable for the Patriots now on an incentive laden deal you offer cloudy, six or seven million dollars, base salary and the offer. Incentives are escalators hits those from production standpoint. One of those very easy ones could be that sack total you know last year only has three say this year he's going to have three and a half, and we'll give him an extra two million bucks as a not likely to be earned incentive because he didn't do it last year, and it's a really easy number for cloudy to reach. The defensive end position is one that a lot of people have talked about for the Patriots lately as a potential area for trade targeted in addition. Do you think that clowning makes sense? Football lies for the Patriots Defense. I've really couldn't create in a lab. A better hybrid defense event for bill check into Damian cloudy He is explosive. He's athletic. He's fantastic against the run. That's really his calling card. He has developed not as quite as excitingly as people were expecting as a pass rusher. Rusher I think he's not that guy on the edge. You one on one against tackles is going to beat guys, but if you move around, you move his locations alignment around a little bit, you know inside against a guard, leaving him outside and running him in the scheme pressure like a game or a stunt, or pick player or something like that he can be an absolute terror on those types of plays the ways. The Patriots get guys free for pass rushing opportunities to rush the. The quarterback is exactly how cloudy can really affect the pass rusher or affect the quarterback in the similar way, so look at Houston tape was Romeo Cornell a similar defensive coordinator to Bill Belichick who has a history here in New England obviously, there's a lot of the same schemes that they're running in use a lot of the same blitz packages. A lot of the same games are stunts along the defensive line that cloudy did very very well in Houston. That would project extremely well here. Here in New England system as well so for cloudy. I think a one year deal with bill. Belichick is honestly a blessing in disguise. Completely reset his market. He'd really thrive here. And it gives versatility has the ability to play both on and off the of scrimmage with the hand in dirt or up in a two point stands inside outside. He's exactly what bill would want. In that type of edge rusher. The question is is. Does that price come down enough for this to happen? On for all of our new, England, Patriots Coverage. You can find it on our website. "The. In signing with the New England patriots, things are about to change on offense. I'm Sierra that will here with Evan Lazar totally different skill sets from Tom Brady from Jerry said of what we were expecting out of the Patriots offense in his twenty twenty season, but which positional which area of this offense benefits the most from this citing while Sarah All off-season I've been scratching my head in racking my brain to figure out you. How does this patriots offense get better right? How do they work this year? In the one thing that kept on coming back to is that the way that they've built this team with the multiple tight ends, the brandon stable running back. Back, so they have when the Keel Harry being a big bodied rack type of receiver, I'm thinking I need a mobile quarterback. They need somebody that can move the pocket. They need somebody that can extend plays with his legs. They need somebody that can make the defense respect his running ability. They need to spy or contain them on the edge or do something like that and I was like listen. Dirksen could be that guy. We saw it in the preseason. He's a decent scrambler. He can run around a little bit, but now they got Cam Newton. And that's a whole different animal in this regard, and that's the most exciting part about this now is. Is that the rest of the legal are a lot of the rest of the League is playing eleven on eleven offensively right. They got the quarterback as a running thread. Defenses have to respect that they have to put an extra guy in the box or account for him in the box or the defender, and now the Patriots get to get in on that fun, and they get to get in on that Lamar. Jackson, style of offense, or whatever offense you WanNa Take the past you know Colin. Kaepernick Softens Cam, Newton's offense and Carolina. Now they get to do some of those things. That's really exciting and you know you look at the tape and you see. See Okay. You know even though you only carried the ball. Thirty six times on read option plays averaged over five yards per carry in two thousand, eighteen on those thirty six carries, but also their running game average five and a half yards per carry on running back carries off of read option, so we're talking about an offense that is far more efficient on the ground, and when you look at the the Patriots are building here. It's a run first offense with the play action passing attack with the defense second hold teams in the teens, and that's how they're going to win football games, and now they can really lean into that style with at quarterback. In the most recent concern surrounding cam was that..

"The. There's no doubt that Cam Newton joining. The New England Patriots makes them much more competitive, not only in their division, but four the conference in as a super bowl contender. I'm Sierra. Goodwill here with Evan. Lazar. Odds are good now that the Patriots are going to be right there with the Buffalo Bills to compete for the AFC child that they've won for so many years in a row now. What do you think that the cam signing gives to the Patriots to make them such a contender? Now we'll give trump card is what it gives them. It gives them somebody at the quarterback position that can really schematically impact the game with his legs, and they have that ability now to be plus one against the run, so you know. Know they have seven blockers, and the Defense has eight will now the Patriots are playing it on eight, because the defense has to account for the quarterback, so I think the biggest thing is that it's going to free up a lot of different options for the Patriots. They can run different schemes that we haven't necessarily seen in new. England with a stationary quarterback Tom Brady and they have the ability now to really be an extremely effective running team and I think if you look at the past and look at other. Other running teams that have really pace themselves offensively with their run game. You're talking about Baltimore for example, the big reason why Baltimore was gangbusters last year on the ground game is because a Lamar Jackson. Ray If you have a quarterback. Where is turning his back and handing the ball off and watching the runningback slam into a guys in the box all the time. You're really not going to be as potent as efficient. Put up as many points as you're going to need to win as many games as the Patriots Hope. Hope to win the season so all offseason long I've been looking. I've been kind of scratching my head. Thinking this offense with multiple tight ends with guys like kill Harry with those stable running backs that they have is really built for a mobile quarterback. It's built to have RPO's. It's built to have his own read actions. It's built to get the quarterback involved in any way shape, or form that they can now they how that type of Guy With Cam Newton. That offense becomes a little bit more difficult to defend. The Patriots now in the conversation of being super bowl contenders by simply adding Cam Newton. Like Super Bowl contenders a little bit rich because his injury. History is what it is right. You're counting on 'em being healthy now for nineteen games. If you're thinking about are talking about making a super bowl run. Maybe that's a little bit generous, but I think before they were one of those teams that was dark horse to make the playoffs rate with jared cinema. quarterback a team that could make the playoffs or could have ended up six ten. They were kind of one of those volatile teams now. Now I think that there are dark to make a run in the playoffs and not just make it because they have Cam Newton so still I don't think that there are a favorite i. don't think that they're one of those teams that you should circle as a contender necessarily, but that next kind of wave or the next kind of grouping of Dr Course candidates to maybe make that super to be that Tennessee titans for example wire last year. I think the Patriots can become that team now. For.

"The? Current situation our countries in Colin Kaepernick's name has been recirculating in the new cycle. I'm Sierra goodwill here with Emily Lazar in Taylor Kyle's with Roger Goodell's recent statement, admitting wrongdoing on behalf, the League for banning pro peaceful protests on the football field. Things have been brought up about okay if they lift that ban of kneeling during the naturally at them will NFL. Teams now take a chance on Colin Kaepernick in one team in particular, the New England patriots could potentially be a team that should consider bringing in panic for workout. Yeah I. Think the Roger Goodell's Statement I. Pay my jaw off the floor when he said that right because. After all this with Cabernet with the kneeling with the president, and all his stuff now you're gonna say all these years later that it's okay. I I was shocked I couldn't believe he walked that back. And as soon as he said that the first thing that I tweeted out right afterwards in myself was well. This is this is a May couple of cabinet in this is. Is a clean slate for him. He should have a clean slate here and he should not only be broadened for workouts, but he should be on a roster in the NFL. By the end of the summer. Really I would say and I think the biggest thing standing in his way is not actually talent, or the kneeling or anything like that anymore, but now that you're. You're three years removed from football. It's Kinda difficult to find out. What exactly is he? At thirty two years old three years removed from the game. What can you bring to the table anymore? Does he still have the straight? Does he still have the mobility because he's still have the a little bit semblance of accuracy, although it's never really the most accurate passer he. He was always a guy that could at least put the ball. Worry wanted more times than not, and that's going to be. The question is what these workouts with these tryouts whatever it ends up being..

"The. For the first time in two decades the New England patriots have different quarterback to work around I'm here. Goodwill here with Evan? Lazar lot of people have been talking about what changes we might see from the Patriots offense this year with assuming Jarret Stidham is leading the charge. What do you expect to change if dramatically or small with this offense? While I don't think the changes are going to be that dramatic Sierra, because you look at this offense and you look. Look at what they've had in place here for the last twenty years, and yes, things have been curtailed for Tom Brady and his set and fitting what he does best. Certainly, that is true, but it's also been a very successful system that's been in place here since the beginning of the Dynasty Bill Belichick and Charlie Weis. Really built the basis of the Patriots offense in the early two thousands. Then it sort of evolved when Josh. mcdaniels took over in the late. Late two thousands to mcdaniels vision, updating in a little bit with offenses in where things are going directionally with the entire league, and with the entire sport, tapping into some of the things like with chip, Kelly in the college game, but the no huddle offense, and some of air-raid concepts, getting in there, like Mesh and stuff like that, so the whole system has been in place for a really long time. This is a long way to get to this point the. The whole system has been in place for a really long time and I. Don't expect the Patriots to completely blow it up in reinvent. What do offensively because I. Don't think that stood them. skillset is a far cry from Tom Brady's. It's not like they're going from Tom Brady to Lamar. Jackson here. It's enough similarities there that I. think that they are going to keep it. Generally the same system and I know the terminology is going to be the same. Well obviously after. Two decades, they had a lot of faith in Brady's decision, making skills and his arm in general. What changes do you see them? Implementing based on what we know of stem so far while the biggest thing. I think that they will change is that there's going to certainly be more moving of the pockets so more bootleg actions more rollouts more things where you can get them on. On the perimeter on the move, a little bit cut the field in half. Those reads a little bit easier for them and use his legs which you know, he's not a big time runner, but he does have above average speed, so he used those legs and use that athleticism to move the pocket, a little bit and get defenses shaking a little bit more than what you would. Would in a traditional drop back shotgun type of passing system, so the Patriots will have more bootleg action more rollouts more things, involving Sims legs than we do see that in the past when Brady you know, had to sit out for deflate gate, suspension or two thousand eight with Matt Cassel with Jacoby Reset I would say more so in in the deflategate situation where the Patriots did. Did put more quarterback running elements into their offense, letting the quarterback run with the football. Keep the football himself or just roll out the pocket. So that's GonNa be the real. The the really big innovation I think for this patriots offense. We'll be incorporating more of moving the football outside the pocket for Jared Stadium to really make a little bit easier for him to read the field. The rest for Patriots Coverage.
