"He made our will. Okay. Did he made our will to two year deal for thirty some million dollars? It's basically what you call it. The raiders got a Third Reich Gable? But third round pick in the fifth round pick four guy. He valued his assets to the Pittsburgh Steeler. It's the pick first dealers get more when they treated him that way, he went on national TV. And at that point everybody knew, oh, he's he's he's gonna get trained. And we're not gonna give them anything because they got a two and a half million dollars number on his head March seventeenth in that they part ways with them after March seventeenth, they give it in two and a half million. And then they're gonna get -nificant cap. Here are tell you what we'll take him up your hands for three and a five basically a two year deal for third round pick in the fifth round pick in the money. His guaranteed opposed to the money not being guaranteed in Pittsburgh. But it's basically the same numbers for the first two years. She let me ask you if it were up to one or two different things either. Antonio Brown is going to make Derek Carr. Look good for Derek Carr is gonna make Antonio Brown look bad, which one do you think is more likely? I think the I think the more unlikely scenarios Antonio can make dare car look, really good. That's what I think. Okay. I think I think it's got thinking an event polio. Doesn't look good. It won't be because Antonio skills. It will be because Jon Gruden could him in the right position and their card in getting the football. That's the only way he's gonna look bad because he's really good, man. He's really really cool. So, you know, I feel yeah. Yeah. So then football player to tell you receive just a good football. Having said that then then we kind of feel like we're we're expressing some confidence. Derek Carr, right in that sense that that he's someone who can be saved. So to speak. Well, I never I'm never thought. It was anything wrong with car me car was car was barking up on MVP conversations to two and a half years ago. Right. So I never felt I never felt like anything was wrong with car, you you. He got hurt. They he came in with a new coach of the new system he was criticized at times, but doing you know, throwing the ball away or on the interception here there. I mean, I thought he was fine me personally. I never thought the raiders should've fired Jack del Rio. But that's me. I mean, I thought that when they played Houston in the playoff game there car that they would have seen the New England Patriots AFC championship game that year. That's only two seasons removed. Yeah. Yeah. Key. What do you make how much right, right? No. No, listen. I you're right. I mean, it was twenty fifteen right? And or three seasons ago, basically. But you're right. He was in the VP conversation. They won twelve games at that point. So he didn't all of a sudden forget how to play football at one year. What do you make of the Dante follower signing for the Rams? I think it's great. I think he's betting on himself. Because if you look at me and Travis talked about it if he'd win out into free agency, he probably wouldn't have got fourteen million. He probably would have got a deal, you know, ten million dollars a year eight million dollars a year to hear Teo three year deal. What he said is I'm still young. I just started flourishing in defense last year. When I got traded. Let me hit a full year will Wade Phillips under my belt, and now I'll be able to turn in some von Miller type performances because now I stand with planned the NFL is all about that. That's how I look at it. And he bet on himself taking a one year deal to get back to the marketplace next year, you said me and Travis where where was that was it? Man. You know, I have time. Get about. We'll casing vacation or anything Asian another concert. He he was he was there this morning. Okay. L D V. Come and go..

Vacation vacation vacation another concert. He he was he was there this morning. Okay. L D L D, come and go. He's got the LA times job. Now. He's the culture columnists like he's got a lot of stuff going on. LA times, he's boxing. He's ten. He's USC. He's teaching at US. That's right is teaching USA. He's got many got a million different things going up. We'll hustle hustle, man. Awesome man in the minute. He's gonna be waiting tables. Somebody's shaquille. Yes, right Shaq just over there, right down the street keys. You you mentioned that see what the hell is going to happen there. This year, man. Man, you'll get good mind. Let's put it that way. I don't know. I mean, they've gone through some ups and downs. Obviously, the beginning a year coaches in Kingsbury the end he's out then they bring in what's his name Graham, Herro herald Graham or something like the the the bring him the lighter version of Kingsbury. Yeah. So they bring him in. And now he's supposed to be the savior to the offense. And they're supposed to dummy down the offense the defense. So the players can play faster. All I can do is wait till September. There's nothing I can do except wait for September. Because you just don't know what it is a lot of players couldn't the names in the in the portal to transferred. So it's eight years medicine myth. That's all I can say it's it's about as bad as it can get right now, you know, and it's gonna be a lot of heat if they don't turn things around in a quick fast of the hurry, and they athletic department plays gonna play is going to text you right after this radio interview. Kiet I thought you were supporting me, man. I do support him. I support all of them. But I really much. I could do as I've always said to you and anybody else helped me help you. Be. How can I help you?.

"Plenty of discussion this morning about the major league baseball hall of fame class going in the process for voting what it rewards, and who we've been obviously leaving out some people changing their minds coming around as we've got now for Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and some of the steroid era players that have for so long been cast out cast aside by major league baseball hall of fame. Got about three years. I think three years left now for bonds on a major league baseball hall of fame ballot as he inches closer to that marker that we're going to need for that. Gonna be very interesting. How we address that? Because again, you look at each hall of fame in the job at does it may be coming up in a little bit. We'll take a look at baseball relative to the other major sports hall of fame because it seems to be talked about a great deal more procedurally than we do almost any other hall of fame, but procedure is the word of the day or even the word of the week really for the NFL coming off conference championship weekend. Obviously a lot of people talking about what to do coming from the NFC title game procedurally down the stretch of games potentially reviewing calls like pass interference that do or don't occur. Towards the end of the game so much so that now New Orleans Saints fans because of the agreed dismiss also going through the process. A thrown some litigation the way of the NFL. For damages coming off of a game that they thought they were robbed of by the officiating in that game. But the overtime discussion. They came off the Kansas City Chiefs loss to the New England Patriots AFC championship game and the subsequent discussion. They're one of the things that we heard the common refrain as we debated changing the overtime rules to allow for both offenses to get a crack at. Getting a shot to score during that overtime period. Because we know New England Mark down the field scored on that first possession the Kansas City Chiefs, never get a chance to touch the ball. Patrick Mahomes, still helmet in hand waiting for his opportunity to go up against that patriots defense. Well, everyone said your defense ask give you a chance they're getting paid too. Well, Bob Sutton, the chiefs defensive coordinator will now no longer be getting paid by the Kansas City Chiefs as a result of that outcome staffer straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk wireless. Best phones, best networks, no contracts. The Kansas City Chiefs yesterday relieved Bob Sutton of duties two days after his defense failed to come up with the stops necessary in that overtime, period. Now Sutton has been the Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator since two thousand and thirteen when Andy Reid came over as the head coach. A situation where as Andy Reid said quote change can be a good thing for both parties. And I believe that this is the case here for the chiefs, and Bob not sure I necessarily subscribe to that. But on the way out Andy Reid, obviously frustrated trying to get along as best he can. And this was really the move. I know a lot of people are going to point to and say is this a move that even gets made if you get one more stop if you manage to put your offense back on the field again and give them an opportunity to score a win the game. My thought what process would still be? Yes, you came within one defensive neutral zone infraction from being in the Super Bowl. You are already in the AFC championship game. You're already the one seed you were so many things this year, understanding and accounting for injury. But still what defense did and gave up over the course of the entire season. Thirty first in yards allowed twenty fourth in points allowed. However, you want to slice it twenty-sixth this season. And really for the last two years have been trending in this direction outside the two thousand fourteen in two thousand fifteen this had been a chiefs outfit that was not giving their offense nearly enough help. And now that you've gotten into the window, and we talk about this all the time with teams where. When you have an offensive coordinator and offensive minded head coach and one who comes into this, quite frankly, not on the strongest footing. When we've looked at Todd Bowles when we've looked at John FOX who is in Chicago with Mitch Trubisky. When we looked at Jeff Fisher was with Jared Goff in the Los Angeles Rams when your record is already flirting with a place where your job might be in jeopardy, and then you are given rookie quarterback the crown jewel right now in the NFL in the way that this is structured and not only with the salary cap. But also with some of the other restrictions that have come with the last collective bargaining agreement. The rookie quarterback contract has become more valuable than ever and capitalizing on that time period become the most valuable thing you can do and we often think of this in the vein of well if you're a head coach in that position. Clearly, if they determined within that first year that you are not the guy for the job. They're going to move on because they've got three four years of cost control time left on that guy's deal in order to make it work with the rest of that team before they gotta pony up some money and changed the way that they do things for the Kansas City Chiefs. Andy Reid comes into this on stable footing. Andy Reid is one of the best coaches in the NFL. Andy Reid is a guy whose job was not in jeopardy when Patrick Mahomes installed at the starter. Even when people called it a major risk moving on from Alex Smith who at the very least was a stable known commodity is a veteran to Patrick Mahomes, a guy who they traded. They traded up to get in the first round of the NFL draft was a guy with mixed reviews coming out of an air raid offense at Texas Tech, all of these different things that were going to put the heat not on Andy Reid, but squarely on the shoulders. Oh, Bob Sutton. Because now it's incumbent on everyone on the team. What are we doing to make sure we maximize this window with Patrick Mahomes 'cause you hear all the rumblings from Adam Schefter about the kind of money. The Mahomes might be able to command in a couple of years when it's time for him to get that payday. It's the kind of money that changes the way that you have to go out and get the other portions of your team. So right here right now. It's on all of us to make sure we're putting this team in that player in the best position to succeed while we've got him on that cost control deal. Jeff Saturday ESPN NFL analyst spoke yesterday. About read and Sutton. And the ultimate decision to part ways with their defensive coordinator. What Andy Reid said we're in the Super Bowl. If we stay on side. That's not a ring endorsing that for you know, making a play. And so I think like two fields point as you lay everything out to what has happened the entire season other than sacs, which they did do an extremely good job. That was pretty much all they had and think about your playing with a lead most of the time. A lot of opportunity really fast guys in a good three technique inside. You're going to get some Saks, but they did not play consistent enough defense to get him to the Super Bowl. Ultimately when it first and last Michael junior here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app when you cannot be competitive and obvious situations that becomes an issue. And unfortunately, the patriots were running in obvious situations. There was nothing deceitful about the patriots game plan when you line up with Devlin and with Sony Michelle in the backfield, we all know what's going to happen in that circumstance the Kansas City Chiefs new coming into that game. What was going to happen? And the fact that you've got a Chris Jones on the defensive line. The fact that you've got talent around him in that area. Now, obviously it's limited in quality, especially when you get to the linebacker level there some improvements they've gotta make certainly the secondary. Without Eric berry for a large portion of the season was devoid of playmakers. Marcus Peters was a guy that was sent off during this off season as well. So you've got a lot. You can retool an add there. But again, even with that you've still got NFL players out there on the field. And when the patriots can just simply lineup and ram it down your throat with no repercussion that tends to be an issue, especially when that's been your MO the entire season. Now, I last here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app was struck by this. So Andy Reid is a guy certainly likable figure guy who tends to give you a little more in the media than most very least a personality in mustache. We've become familiar with especially I feel like when Mahomes came through Andy really let his hair down. Like, you saw him a little more relaxed this year he was having fun with all the weapons on his team. I mean, how could you not be amount of offense of firepower? Andy Reid had to play with as an offense. Mine. A guy would make anyone relax. There's no relaxing for Bill bell. Check. I truly feel bad sometimes for guys. I think it was Mike Reese asking Bill ballot. Check questions in this case and the media around there in general, what it's gotta be like, we think about offensive coordinators, stay up all the time. Crafting plays trying to find ways to skin there guys open. And when you get to the game, you think you finally got the look you've finally got the place. You finally got the opportunity to go out there and execute it and it falls flat. How deflecting that must be? I have to imagine it's similar for reporters in Foxborough who think man? This is the day. I've got the question the Bill is going to actually answer. I am going to get him to open up and finally revealed to the world not just his love of lacrosse, but actually something competent the football world that I can use to write an article not so fast. Could you give me your reaction to the reports of the laser pointer citing Tom Brady space during Sunday's game right now, we're really focused on getting ready for the Rams. So. How did it affect any of the plays at all? Ramat straight talk wireless nationwide coverage on America's largest most dependable four G L T networks coming up next is the voting process for the major league baseball hall of fame. The best way to do things is the power of public pressure to overwhelming in this process. We'll get into a next it's first and last here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app..

"Didn't believe it. I still don't believe it. I think it's been doctrine. I think it's all rigged hold on. When you said seven and one I thought you were talking about against the spread picking winners. Do that anybody can do that. I'm five and three Meyer. I think one one in three last week one and three lasts. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, the snow the bears. Yeah. My bad. Yeah. Not really, Cody. Let's get let's get to this week. We've got the Rams at the saints the saints or three and a half point favorites. Let's pick it straight up. And let's pick it against the spread big cat go. All right. I'm going all weekend. It's the don't over think it, okay? Because this is a game. When you get two games left. You you sit there, and you analyze every little piece, and you over think it the saints are in the dome just close your eyes visualize the saints, the domes rocking. Drew brees. It's his last great chance to go to Super Bowl. It's the saints take the saints. I know I mean these games are so evenly matched. This game is so close I'm gonna go with the team that I think is more talented in the Los Angeles. Rams. I'm going to go with them. And and I don't feel totally comfortable with either one of my picks because I know they're that close. But I am going Rams twenty seven twenty four pulling off the F set in New Orleans. I got the saints thirty eight thirty one I'm with big cat on this. It just seems too obvious. And you can't over think it, and if you do you end up shooting yourself in the foot thirty eight thirty one saints win. So I got the saints covering the three and a half. Alright Kansas City hosting the New England Patriots. This is the tougher one. This one could go either way big cat who you got don't over think it again don't over think it again, if you close your eyes, and you think about the Kansas City Chiefs. I the New England Patriots AFC championship game. The patriots are going to win this game. I mean, how many times they have to be here for this to happen? And I said I took the chargers last week. I always do this. I always think the Steelers are going to beat the patriots. Right. I'm done looking stupid. Yeah. Just just take the patriots. And forget it don't over think. I'm. Joining I'm joining you. I'm going patriots as well. I'm gonna. I thought you were related. Leaning. But after my studies and film and me being Rhonda wars because I watched the film. I am going thirty to twenty seven New England Patriots. I think hey, we can talk about AFC championship game on the road struggles. Yes. But I think this patriots team is very good. They're made to play on the road with the run game. And I think their secondary is the best secondary left in the playoffs to where they can slow down this Kansas City unit. Mike is in the same. I got the same outcome. Patriots thirty seven Mike is it a problem that Fillon? I agree. This much. What did you say? Please call them, Phil. Yes is doing Mike. Now, he's. Let me tell you guys a secret on the way out. Yeah. Always pick one of the try to remember to pick one of the two championship games thirty to twenty seven because I'm still scarred. "That changes the way deck is able to buy time. Like we saw last week. Their games within the games here. That are gonna be really fun to watch me. Interesting to see how much of that crowd. A cowboy fans it's going to be fifty fifty maybe more. I would agree with you. And I think that that's a problem. It's a problem for the LA teams right now they're going to end up having a beautiful stadium there. I mean, you know, you can see the pictures as it's being built. But yes, an absolute problem. And and by the way, I'm sure we'll get there. And I think we will how about the chargers who've won nine games including one in London away from their home stadium. What Anthony Lynn has done? And he deserves a lot of credit is remarkable. Obviously Philip rivers helps in that regard for a head coach a great deal at this point in his career. But they they are not a team that needs things to be perfect and on their term they'll go anywhere and beat ya. And that's something that in this day and age, I think we really respect you. It's weird to say this. But I think it's true. Because I remember hearing this about the old New Jersey Nets that teams that don't have a great home field or court advantage actually benefit in the way, they play on the road because there are times in which they're at home, and it feels like they're on the road to a more fans of the other team. And while that sucks and it's not enjoyable it actually can benefit these guys for when they play on the road. And I don't think that's a coincidence with the chargers success away from that home stadium. The home games feel like road games. So when they're on the road, isn't that big of a deal, and they still have, you know, a fiery leader in rivers. I mean, we've always talked when we compare ally. Ben rivers, right? One of the. The things that I've always thought and I'm not alone in this. Is it all three went to the teams and cities and markets where they belonged because I don't know that Ben survive here given some of the stuff earlier in his career. He certainly would survive as a quarterback in as a winner. I'm not suggesting that but he dealt with some things off the field that might have been a bigger deal in this market Philip rivers with his emotions we see this market. You know, we sometimes criticise players are emotional players. I actually think it's healthy to have emotional player. Not not all fifty three can be, you know, at a high emotional level all the time. They can't you can't manage that way. But you need a motion a leadership Philip rivers, certainly has provided that in San Diego and now Los Angeles, obviously still looking for his first title to prove you know, what a great leader he is. But I find that part of it so interesting as we talk about these teams and how they are where they are. And how certain guys are still standing and the one of the three that I just mentioned, of course. Is rivers and he'll get to see your patriots tomorrow. I know you're desperately ruining just that life is complete when the New England Patriots AFC championship game. It's amazing. The last time they weren't in AFC championship game was the year. The jets beat them in the division around that you'll let I was in that building is very satisfying night. That's a long time ago. You just took the words out of my mouth. I like, interrupting you as you can tell and you're so good about that. I was going to say, and that's a long time ago. You know, it's funny now like do we now look back on Rex? I golden age would be way too strong. But he did do some things with those teams that you would really really really probably trade away a lot of stuff for the jets to start doing that. Again, wasn't artfully said by me, but you know, what I'm saying, you, would you would make trades not about things that are near and dear to you. But you would trade a lot to get back to those days beating the patriots being in the playoffs AFC championship game all that stuff. So you know, it is funny to look back. But you're right. It's a long time ago. I that's why when that was happening because I've learned I learned this early in my sports life to appreciate stuff as it's happening because it never lasts has never does with any of the teams important in life. You're right. You're right. I always appreciated Rex for that. Because I think as we look back now first of all Mark Sanchez who couldn't even get through a game, basically as the quarterback of the Washington Redskins defeated Peyton Manning and Tom Brady and the playoffs on the road in back to back weeks. I mean, let that sink in for a second. Yeah. Well, that's why the crowd which as you would suspect. I really really disagree with that looked at that giants Redskins game and see either better without doubt. Well, are you gonna put up no offense because he's a lovely person? Are you going to put Mark Sanchez on as a starting quarterback in all of those games? Because believe me the giants defense had a lot to say about that. I mean, that's why in the NFL stuff is so funny and so- week to week, and you know, Martin has been last then because they went to Josh Johnson, obviously. Although that ultimately didn't work out for the Redskins. Hey, I want good players on my team Odell. Beckham's a very good player. Antonio Brown's a very good player. Now Antonio Brown has done much more disruptive things then Odell Beckham ever done. Yeah. You know, I was in the incredible minority. Again, I'm comfortable with all this stuff. So when I say, this sort of thing, not looking for sympathy. I'm just pointing it out when I thought the Facebook video of his head coach and teammates in that locker room when head coach in particular didn't know he was on Facebook live at that moment. I thought that was an incredibly bad sign for Brown and the Steelers going forward, I thought it was really agree. Gis? I was in the minority on that people just blew it off no one cared. But there it's not like you can all of a sudden be surprised at some of the stuff. You really can't. We can that thing has been building. He's been getting away with stuff to the point where this was something like this was almost bound to happen and across their season, you could easily make a case that one of the. Teams. We're talking about today of the eight remaining is the Steelers we could easily make that case, and they probably should be. It's felt for years as if the Steelers always have some kind of drama, and usually they rally around it. That's the way it is felt for the last few years that they thrive with this kind of weird drama. Yeah. And I think as some degree Ben stirs that pot radio show where you know, he's not necessarily afraid mentioned that a teammate needs to do better play better off in that teammates skilled player, and and that sort of thing. So I do think there's probably some responsibility there. There's obviously responsibility at the front office and head coach level there. But I agree with you a hundred percent would you deal for Antonio Brown? If you're the jets are another team. Or would you be too scared off based on what just happened? I think the jets have enough money and free agency. I think they have enough draft. I mean, they're giving away draft picks but David early pick obviously in this draft. I would I would tread lightly there because of what we've seen. I, you know, now Sam does seem to be the kind of guy that can handle a lot. You know? I don't worry about Sam, you know, going into a funk because a veteran player. It, you know, causing him to I don't worry about that with Sam darnold, but he's also not gonna call him out on the radio that I know that. But I'm just saying, you know, A B is a guy who wants to ball. Like Dow gets people always say that to me. Well, he always wanted to. I don't remember Odell publicly ever saying, I you know, I have to get the ball. Now. He'll talk about the offense having to be much better, which it does. But in terms of really calling for the ball and making life uncomfortable and a quarterback that way. I would probably tread lightly with Brown. I'd be more inclined to go after bell because of what he would bring. But again, I know the price tag. And I know that may not be the way they end up going the, and I go back and forth with all sports about this. Where I want talent. I want town on my team. And then these other things which turn a lot of people off, maybe have more leniency with. But the receivers that are out there are such a drop off after Antonio Brown. Yeah. That's what keeps me intriguing. I mean, you could argue the best wide receiver out. There is golden Tate. Who's a nice player? He's not Antonio Brown is a huge drop off. Yeah. And he's not the same kind of receiver. Yeah. I mean, I if that's the way you're portraying it, and you do a better job with this stuff than I do a lot of times. I could I could see that. But I would want a big conversation there. We saw Adam gates clash with a player in Jarvis Landry. Who you know? When I when I when I was doing a lot more patriots games then. And and that sort of thing Evan when I would talk to players in the AFC east including patriots bills while it's an awfully teams. Really because I would see them all and jets. They would talk about Jarvis Landry being the best slot guy in the league. And I'm not sure I would argue against that. I mean, he's a really really good player. I understand he doesn't make every huge play. But in terms of catching the ball and being productive. He's as good as you get and you can't make it work with him. No, that's that's a certain case with Brown. Yeah. No. The odds are it'd be a disaster. Who's kidding? Who? Listen, you in jail have been great. I respect how passionate you are. I've heard Gusta line with you. I heard many Sean with you this week. I I respect everything that you guys are saying because you want the jets to win and you're not sold. This is the guy who can do it. And I understand that. I mean, thirteen in nineteen the last two years with three of those wins coming against the jet is not some great endorsement for Adam gays, and then the counter would be willing close games. What his dolphins are twenty and six over the last few seasons. And that's backed in the league. So I don't like the Cutler argument. I certainly don't like the Peyton Manning argue I mean. MED young quarterback. He had was Ryan tannehill. And you know, he was injured. They they all get injured at some point it seems. But I mean Sam had an injury this year, but that didn't really work out. And that's one of the reasons he's not there. What's bothering me? Is people have talked about Adam gays like he's a quarterback whisperer? Not my answer is where I'd like to see what are you talking about one year Jay colored the development of Ryan tannehill Peyton Manning and making him coffee like where is this resume of whispering to quarterbacks hopefully, help stirred Sam darnold into the greatest of all time. I'd love to see it. But the way it's been portrayed over the last few weeks is Adam gates has done something that he really hasn't done. That's all well and another of the candidates Matt role who I I got to know a little bit and his one year as an assistant assistant coach with the giants. He hasn't developed them either. So it is interesting. You know, if Mike McCarthy has to get some credit for Aaron Rodgers talented, but came up under him, I wouldn't give him credit. An offer far to the us. Get some credit for Aaron Rodgers is terrific. And whose game is not completely foreign to Sam darnold game. I mean, there are some similarities in terms of what Aaron Rodgers is able to do with all of his gifts and the way Sam darnold able to move on a football field. And I think that would have been encouraging there, you know. And then there's Todd Mahnken who what Tampa Bay had a really good offense. And did he develop Janus Winston? I mean Jameis Winston is going to need to now become who he is under Bruce Arians. And there's a big hope that he can do that. So the one thing about the jets candidate is they didn't really bring in the guys where you can say like, wow, look what he did with this player. The one guy that was out there year ago who did that with Frank Reich, and he got a job because you know, Josh because of Josh mcdaniels flightiness. Yup. When Frank Reich when you talk to people in Philly, he was invaluable to Doug Peterson as a sounding board, and as a resource, and as an offensive mind, and he was really really good. With went. And then obviously foles who by the way, it's going to be a remarkable story. Men because I think five days after the season ends the eagles have to make a decision about Nick foles, who, you know, Rex coined the term foles folk hero, which I understand because of was kicker. This is a foles hero in Philly. And rightly so it's gonna be fascinating. Appreciate you making time for us. Can't wait to hear you back to what shows and enjoy the football. Thanks that we covered a lot like feeling like we covered a lot. We accomplished our goal to. You was all year Monday. Thank you. Kim.
