A highlight from The Bitcoin Debate with Jeff Booth & George Gammon
"Bitcoin us gives the ability to transact outside of the system. I think there is massive, massive, massive value and Bitcoin is sensational and Bitcoin will, in my opinion, overachieve. Hello there. Happy Wednesday. Hope you are all doing well. Just getting ready. It's a few days. I'm going to be heading out to California. We're going to be heading out to Pacific Bitcoin. Got loads of interviews planned and we can't wait to get to the conference. Corey and the Swan team, they absolutely smashed it last year. It's a great conference. So looking forward to seeing some of you out there, catching up, talking Bitcoin and catching up with some LA friends. Also, I think we've got a real Bedford game out there, so I'll be finding somewhere to hide away and watch that game. Hopefully some of you will come and watch it with me. Anyway, welcome to the What Bitcoin Did podcast, which is brought to you by the absolute legends at Iris Energy, the largest NASDAQ listed Bitcoin miner using 100 % renewable energy. I'm your host, Peter McCormack. And today I have perhaps my favorite show of the year. We've got Jeff Booth and George Gammon on the show to discuss and debate Bitcoin. Now, these two have gone back and forth a bit on Twitter. Actually, it started quite a while back and I kind of threw myself into the conversation and said, hey, guys, let's do this. Let's get on the podcast. Let's talk this through. And they both agreed, but it's taken some time to get together. And listen, while they certainly disagree on some things, they were both very respectful of each other. And I think they both made excellent points. I think, I don't know, it's really difficult. I kind of found myself agreeing with both of them at times. I think it comes down to like, are we entering a new world or is Bitcoin existing in the old world? Because if Bitcoin is existing in the old world, then I think George makes some really great points and I kind of agree with him. But if like Jeff thinks like Bitcoin is creating a new world, well then I find myself agreeing with Jeff. So yeah, it was a great interview. Got about 90 minutes out of this one. I felt like a spare part of time sat there with two heavyweights. But anyway, I love doing this. I love hanging out with you super smart people. I think you're going to love this one. I certainly did. But if you've got any questions or feedback, you know what to do. You can hit me up on hello or what Bitcoin did dot com. All righty. Smashed it, right? What a show. And you know, what a nice ending. What a really nice and pleasant ending. I think they're both really respected each other. They didn't come for the fight. They came to get their points across. But I think they both listened to each other. It was great. I really enjoyed this. I'm also going to get George back on the show. I like George. I think he's asking good questions. I think he's prodding and poking in the right areas. And I think that's an important thing to have happen in this world of Bitcoin. So yes, big, big thanks. I'm very grateful to both Jeff and George for doing this, for coming on and making this happen. It's very hard to sit in the middle of a conversation like this when they both make such good points. I've found myself going back and forth a little, but maybe you do too. So I would love your feedback. Please do get in touch. I think the crux of the debate comes down to, as I said in the intro, Jeff's framework is for a new system in which Bitcoin has emerged and is the dominant form of money, whereas George looks at how Bitcoin fits into the current system. I pushed back on both of them. I think a couple of times they both got things that are slightly wrong. But yeah, I want your feedback. Let me know what you think. It's hello or what Bitcoin did dot com.

"You can imagine a world in which people actually have more power than institutions and governments. Bitcoin has the ultimate power in making the world a better place for people. Hello there from sunny Bedford. Hope you're all doing well. Got a nice weekend planned ahead. Obviously for me, it's going to be football weekend. We've got home games for the men's hopefully getting through to the next round. And our ladies who won every game this season, they're going to be playing some Auburn. So it's a busy weekend of football for me and obviously talking about Bitcoin to people. We've actually got a meetup at the game tomorrow. So if you get in this early and if you're in and around Bedford, you want to come down, come down to Bedford. We're going to talk about Bitcoin before the game. Anyway, welcome to the What Bitcoin Did podcast, which is brought to you by the absolute legends at RS Energy, the largest NASDAQ listed Bitcoin miner using 100 % renewable energy. I'm your host, and today I've got my buddy Nick Bartier back on the podcast to get into all things macro and Bitcoin. Now, when we planned our trip to Australia, Nick was a very obvious person to ask to come out and take part in the live event. And while we're there, we took the opportunity to record another show with him. And the legend he is, he absolutely delivered. Now, the first time I spoke to Nick was about four years ago. I met him in LA. I can't believe it. It's gone so quickly. But Nick has always been a solid person to have on the podcast over the years. And as ever, he absolutely killed it. He has a very good and simple way of explaining complicated macro stuff, which I know some of you listeners love. So big thanks to Nick for coming out to Australia and for all the support he's given the podcast over the years. And if you haven't checked out his book, please do go and get it. It's an amazing book, and Nick is an amazing asset to Bitcoin. Also, if you've got any questions about this or anything else, please do hit me up. My email is hello at whatbitcoindid .com. Just a few things outside. We're going to be heading out to LA in about 10 days. It's gone around so quick. Actually, even soon. I think it's nine days. Going to be heading out to Pacific Bitcoin. But we're also going to be doing some interviews there. With regards to the two films we've made, Argentina's in the final edit. That should be released in the coming week, maybe two weeks, but the coming week. And then we will move into editing the Lebanon film. Two amazing films. Just, I mean, not the films are amazing, not that we're privileged to have gone out to these places and made these films. And just another big thanks to RS Energy for sponsoring all this because without their support, I couldn't have done this. Okay, on to Nick. Hope you enjoy the show.

"0 .1 % to 1 % is gargantuan numbers, just extraordinary numbers, right? If Bitcoin does, in fact, achieve 1 % balance sheet capacity everywhere, it makes a lot of sense. It's the perfect currency to settle between enemies for oil, which creates enemies. Hello there from Bedford. How are you all? Yes. I got back from Lebanon yesterday. What an amazing, profound trip. I cannot wait to get the film out to show you what I saw. Also can't wait to talk about it with people. You learn a lot about Bitcoin when traveling, things you can't read in the book, things you can't get from a podcast. And so, yeah, I'm looking forward to talking about my experiences. And I also do, I just want to say a massive thanks also to everybody who helped. A whole bunch of people came out to Lebanon or were in Lebanon and helped us with making this film. So sorry if I forget someone, but massive thanks to Ralph, Tony, Francois, Ellie, Ralph's dad. Who have I forgotten? If I've forgotten someone, I'm very sorry, but you know I love you. And I thank you all so much for your hospitality and help in putting this film together. And speaking of which, I obviously want to say a massive thanks to Iris Energy because without them, I couldn't do this. They came to me last year, was it last year or this year? I think it was the end of last year, perhaps it was this year. I don't know. It's all blown into one, but said, how can we help you? What do you want to do? What do you need? What do you need to do Pete? And I said, well, I need to make a podcast, but I want to make some more films. And they fully backed this and they said, look, here's the money, go and make every film you want to make. So listen, a massive shout out to everyone at Iris Energy, specifically Dan and Will Roberts for backing me and Danny and all the things we want to do. Anyway, enough of that, welcome to the What Bitcoin Did podcast, which is brought to you by those massive legends at Iris Energy, the largest NASDAQ listed Bitcoin miner using 100 % renewable energy. Yes, I'm your host, Peter McCormack, and today I've got a banger of a show. One of the best ones I think I've recorded this year with my boy Checkmate from Glassnode. And we initially planned to talk about on -chain data and we touched on that a little bit, but we quickly moved into all sorts of areas from Bitcoin incentives to macro to politics. It was almost like just a couple of friends talking about all the bullshit in the world and figuring out the role of Bitcoin in this. So yeah, I love this one. I love Checkmate. What a guy, what a massive human as well. He's like six foot 11 or something ridiculous. Like he towers down on Danny. With Danny's next to Checkmate, it's like me being next to Danny.

"The beautiful thing about Bitcoin is if it works with baseball, it works with anything. If you think about value for value, the model, it changes everything. Right. Hello. How are you all? Hello from Lebanon. What a cool country this place is. It's really strange. As I travel around the world, sometimes I go to these places where you worry about the economic situation, you end up meeting the most amazing, incredible people, most amazing resilient people, and Lebanon is exactly that. So I cannot wait to get this film out. Anyway, welcome to the What Bitcoin Did podcast, which is brought to you by the legends at Iris Energy, the largest NASDAQ listed Bitcoin miner using 100 % renewable energy. I'm your host Peter McCormack, and today we have Perth Heat on the show. We've got CEO Stephen and chief Bitcoin officer Patrick, Patrick O 'Sullivan. I was going to try and say Stephen's name. I think it's Nelkowski, Nelkowski, I think Stephen Nelkowski. Danny, what is it? Nelkowski. We've never had Danny on an intro before. Nelkowski. Yes. CEO Stephen Nelkowski. Now I've known Stephen for quite some time. When we announced Rael Bedford, he'd already announced his Perth Heat Bitcoin project, and then I met him out in Miami. He gave me a jersey, and we've kind of been knocking back DMs on Twitter for this whole time sharing ideas, talking about what they're up to, what we're up to. There is so much alignment between the Perth Heat baseball team and what they're doing in Australia and what we're doing with Rael Bedford over in the UK. And so yeah, I've been keeping an eye on their progress, been impressed with everything they're doing. They're definitely a little bit ahead of us, but there's so much alignment between us and them. And I know not everybody loves the football side of things, but this Bitcoin and sports thing, I'm telling you, it's so important. It's important on so many levels, there's so many chances to orange pill people by meeting them where they're at. And I'm telling you, Bitcoin and sports is going to be big. So give me your feedback. Let me know what you think. I hope you enjoy the show. Absolutely loved it. Steve is a legend. Patrick is absolutely beavering away like a legend trying to get all the Bitcoin stuff going for them. I'm going to be nicking some of their ideas. Hopefully, we will have some cool ideas. They can nick as well. But yes, let me know your feedback. Let me know what you think. It's hello at whatbitcoindid .com. Welcome, brother. Good to be on. Who's your friend? This is the chief Bitcoin officer of the Perth Heat. You actually the chief Bitcoin officer? That's it. That's the title. Chief Bitcoin officer. That's all I do. That's what I'm trying to get Ben Ark to do for us. You know Ben Ark? Yes. He doesn't even like football. But he comes along. He gets the whole thing. Great role to have. Emerging role. Yeah. You saw that job ad for that Bulgarian team. Yeah. That's amazing. Yeah. We've got a call with them. Joe Hall's trying to get me to talk to them. But there's two upcoming Bitcoin football teams, young whippersnappers. The league is expanding quickly. We've had a couple of recent inquiries from teams in Europe wanting to speak about what we've done with the baseball team. But as we've said so many times on Twitter and in comments that the Bitcoin sports league is a lot closer than what most people think. There's a lot of interest. Yeah. You beat us to it. I think you beat us to it. We had a couple of weeks between us, I think. Was it that close? It was. There was a nose between, I think, the two announcements. We were early November. I think you were late November, early December, something like that. We're talking 21, aren't we? 21? 20 said? Yeah. It was 21. Because I think I announced - November 21? Yeah. I think I announced December 21. Yeah. And we took over the team in April 22. Yes. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You just beat us. Justin. So many things have changed since then as well in so many ways. What we thought we'd be doing in two years has just dramatically changed so quickly. It's awesome. There's loads we can get into and we're going to. But let's just do a bit of background stuff just for people listening so we can build the picture of what we're doing. So, like, introduce yourself, what you do, and yourself. I know we know you're the Bitcoin officer, but like, and then just tell people about Perth Heat, who they are, and then we'll build from there. Yeah, easy. So my name's Steven. I'm the chief executive of the Perth Heat, who are Australia's most successful baseball team. We've won 15 national titles. We've had 34 players who have played Major League Baseball. We've got an exceptional relationship with the Tampa Bay Rays, who send us out six to each eight players Australian summer. And these are top end draft picks. So one of the players they sent us last season, Junior Caminero, is on the verge of playing in the big leagues right now. So they send us the best of the best in terms of their young talent. And we build a squad and we play a season in the Australian summer. We've got a history of winning. We've got a history of producing great players. We're also the Bitcoin baseball team. And it's been, yeah, it's been an incredible ride. How big is baseball in Australia? It's big. It's look, it's obviously we've got the big sports in terms of Aussie rules. You've got rugby. You've got strong national teams with the Australian cricket team. You've got the Socceroos, you've got the Matildas. So it's not a tier one sport. But in terms of the quality of the competition, if you look at the fact that Perth Heat have had 34 players who have played for the Heat and then gone on to play Major League Baseball, there's no other team or competition that could produce that sort of statistics. So if you looked at one of the football teams like the Perth Glory, they haven't had 34 players who have played in the Premier League. So it's the competition is extremely tough and would be one of the best winter leagues in the world, especially with our association with Major League Baseball. So they send players out to you to get game time. And they also scout players that you have got of your own. There's a bit of scouting. There's international scouts in every city. But the idea of sending them out to us is they will see how the players will react in a foreign environment, a different style of baseball, different time of year. How do these players go in an environment over Christmas, New Year? Some of them are coming back from injury. Some of them have had interrupted seasons. That's a good chance for some of them to also build game time. But it's a program now with Tampa. Then in the last five years, we've had five players already play Major League Baseball. Jacob Lopez was the last just a couple of weeks ago. And as I said, Junior Caminero is knocking the house down, his 27 home runs this year. It's just a phenomenal generational athlete. And what kind of crowds do you get? Yeah, they vary across the weekend. We play a series. So we'll play Friday night. We'll play two games on a Saturday. Two? Two games on a Saturday. And then we'll play another one on a Sunday. So there's four games in the space of 72 hours. And the crowd's roughly between 5 ,000 to 7 ,000 over the weekend. OK, wow. So two in a day. What kind of demands are put on the players? Well, it's different. So baseball, if you're a pitcher, the demands are extreme. Every time you throw the ball, it is logged. It is monitored. It is counted. If you're an outfield player or an infielder, one of the batters, then that's what you're built for. You're built to play every game. So all the pressure's on the pitcher? Pitchers, yeah. Good pitching will win you championships. You need a really strong pitching lineup to bring in the different times of the game. And that's the part of your lineup which you really have to monitor so carefully. Because you could start a series with a pitcher. And if he doesn't perform well, when you bring him out of the game, when you introduce someone else. And then if they don't perform well, how quickly do you run through your rotation knowing that you've got four games to get through? So there's a lot of analytics that we look at, we monitor. And as we said, that pitch count is very, very closely watched. I've been to a few baseball games. I've been to see the A's. I've been to see the Dodgers a few times. I've been to see probably your team. Yes. We went to the Yankees. Yeah, we went to the Yankees. It was too hot, wasn't it? Yeah, it was so hot. It was so hot. Our knees were burning. There's not many roofs on the stadiums, yeah? So you're sitting out in the sun, yeah, baking. But there's heat, but it was too hot. Our legs were in shorts, our legs were burning, so we just went and stood at the back and drunk beer. Then the Yankees get absolutely back. I think they were 10 down within two innings. It was like insane. Yeah, but it's a crazy game. It can be 10 down, and you can still win. My wife has now accepted that no matter how far in front we are in a game, she won't relax until that last out. You can be 6 -0 up, 8 -0 up, and you can still lose a game just like that. It's very, very different of football. In football, if you're 3 -0 up, it's effectively game over, yeah? But in baseball, a three -run lead, a four -run lead, it can change with just one pitch if a batter walks, and then suddenly things just change. It's taken a while to understand and to even get comfortable with it. When I first started in the role five years ago, baseball traditionalists would say, well, that's baseball. It's like, no, it's not. It's bad game management. But yeah, it's baseball. It happens in the big leagues. It happens in Australia, and sometimes it happens with Perth Heat. And so your wife, is that because she's got into the baseball, or she's planning for what your move's going to be like? Bit of both. She has to be into it, but I'm not a good loser at all. Yeah, I'm not probably the best person to speak to if we lose a game for a good 24 hours. After we lost the championship series, that 24 hours was probably four months. Mate, honestly, I know exactly how you feel. We lost three games last season in the league. We lost one cup game, and then we got thrown out of a cup because we played an illegible player should have been suspended, administrative error. Every single one of those, I was not good for 24 hours. I spent the next 24 hours saying, what did I do wrong to contribute to that? Even though it's the team and the manager, it's like, what could I have done more? Could we have prepared the team better? Did we not provide the right resources, or did we not get the balance of the roster correct? There's so many things that go through your mind, but yeah, I'm certainly not a good loser. Were you a Perth Heat fan before? No, with a surname like Neil Kobski, you grew up with a round ball in my household. I was a football fan from an early age. This is a true story. Before I took the role with Heat, I had not watched a baseball game from start to finish. I had not watched a full nine innings. I'd watched parts of a game, but I hadn't watched a whole game. That first year in charge was challenging because you'd be with corporate partners, and I didn't know all the rules, and something would happen during a game, and they'd ask, why did that happen? I'd scratch my head and say, I'd have to find out for you. I'm obsessed with it now. My wife loves watching players steal bases, just running from base to base or trying to steal. Then I look at my family, Grey Caritage, and they're all into it and enjoy coming to the ballpark. Most people I introduce do enjoy it because, again, it's a different sport in terms of the pace of the game. You can relax a little bit more and then sit back and enjoy the menu of the hot dogs or the crackerjack and see some home runs in the background. Well, you don't understand the sport. It's a bit like cricket, right? Most Americans, almost every American does not understand cricket. Are you trying to explain test cricket, that it's five days, two innings each, it could rain and end in a draw? Nobody understands it, but when you understand the game, you understand what brilliant test cricket is. Like my son, he watched the Ashes with me, and I had the first two tests, I was explaining how this works, why they might declare, what the follower knows, which never got used. Trying to explain the strategy of it all. And then once he understood, he got into it, and I was mentioning going to watch baseball. I said to you before we started recording, I was dating that girl in LA, so we were going to watch the Dodgers. It was a playoff season, and I must have gone to maybe five games. I went to the game, I don't know if you know the one where Justin Turner hit a walk -off home run in the playoffs. I think it was against, it might have been the Cubs, but by the way, that itself was an unreal moment. The great finish there. Unbelievable. But I had a guy who was sat with me each game explaining it to me. And one of the things I'd never known about is the whole pitcher strategy. My from assumption the little I'd watched here or there, it was just one guy all game. And if somebody came on and it was injury, I didn't realize you're strategically placing different pitchers in the game, especially towards the end of the seventh, eighth, ninth innings. I didn't know any of that. And so once you understood that, you understood the strategy. And then there's huge strategy, whether you're bringing in a left -handed pitcher to pitch to a right -handed batter, left -handed batter, or someone that can face up to a curveball better than a slider, et cetera. Explaining the game to someone in baseball is a lot easier in the ballpark. If you're watching it off the screen, it's a bit harder to pick up. If you sit in the ballpark and you've got someone that can explain the rules, you will understand it a lot quicker than watching it at home. But the strategy behind pitching is nuts. The movie Moneyball and the strategy behind the analytics is spot on. There's so much you can gain out of the numbers. And that's a big part of our relationship, even with Tampa, is the Tampa front office and what they have in terms of identifying talent and how they use it is something that is a great benefit to an organization like the Perth Heat as well. There's a whole Moneyball thing that started coming to football as well. I know specifically teams like Brentford and Brighton have used it. But they're using it in a different way. They're trying to identify talent, which they sell out. I mean, Brighton. Can you look up their sales of players? I mean, Brighton. They have a profit of 130 million pounds, was it, this summer? I mean, historically, they weren't ever a Premier League team. No. It's only in the last, what, five, six years did they become Premier League? They're now established. But the volume of players they sell and the rates they sell their players for, have they got recent sales? Yeah. Let me pull it up. It was the same with Southampton. They kind of had that strategy as well. So there we go. Okay. Caicido, 160 million euros. McAllister, you went to Liverpool, 42 million. Sanchez, 23 million. But there's more in the previous. I mean, is that just this season? Yeah, that's this season. Did you have last season as well? I don't think it was on him. What was up at the top when you scrolled to the top? That was people who had come in. Right. Okay. But this is their whole strategy. I mean, they're now talking, this guy just got a hat -trick. The other Ferguson got the hat -trick against Newcastle the other day. People are starting to talk about him. And they've managed to have this rotation of players. Even though they're selling their best players, they've got these new ones coming through and they've got like an identity, which means it's a profitable business. Luton were the same. So Luton Town managed to get back in the Premier League from going into non -league, which itself is incredible. But they had a whole strategy of bringing players through and it's part of their revenue model. Does that perform part of your actual revenue model to develop players? For Perth Heat, it's a little bit different because if we have players that we continue to develop, they'll get drafted. And the draft system works a little bit differently to football where the club doesn't take the profit. The actual transfer fee goes direct to the player. Oh, wow. It's one of the first questions our board of management asked when they took the license over. How can we develop players and on -sell them? But it doesn't work like that in baseball, unfortunately. So, yeah, we've got a great farm system of producing young Aussie talent to go and pick up minor league contracts. But there's no return there to the club, unfortunately. Were you a baseball fan before you joined? I mean, I played when I was a kid. But not much of a fan. No. No, it was strictly because of the opportunity that came up that I joined. And when did you join? When? Same time. So about a year before, when the talks happened about, well, maybe this is something that we might be able to do. And then what the details look like for making it a possibility for a team to embrace Bitcoin as much as the team has. And then suddenly realizing that it's going to be significantly more work than what it first appeared to be. Because I didn't really have a role there to begin with. I didn't have a job. I wasn't working there at all. But then sort of trying to orange pill the board after Steve got it and to show them what we could do with it. It was very much, this is the idea. This is what we think we can do with it. And their attitude was, OK, go out and prove it and show them exactly what we could do to kick things off. And then from there, it was just small win after small win. And then realizing, well, if we're going to actually do it and announce things in November about just how far down the rabbit hole we were going to go, that we couldn't just, you know, Bitcoin is not at the point now where you can just launch and say, OK, everything worked perfectly. I mean, you know, it's so hit and miss with things that will work and things that won't work. And that's integration with systems that are already in place, especially when you're talking about a business of this size. You know, it's not your micro strategy. We don't have teams and teams of lawyers or people that can look after all of the various elements. And to go all in on Bitcoin means really restructuring how you do everything. And eventually that came back to me as my sort of ability to transition and see what will work, what's going to work now, what will work in 90 days from now and what it's going to look like in 180 days from now. All of that has changed and just somewhat to stay on top of that and to help integrate it into the systems that Steve is already looking after. Yeah. So I'm going to be interested to compare and contrast what you've done to what we've done, because like we're tiny. You know, our crowds are tiny. When we take, if you want to pay with Bitcoin on a match day, we're talking a handful of transactions. You got up to 7000 people there. So that's that's an entirely different beast. What were you, sorry Steve, what were you doing before you joined? My background is media marketing, so I used to be a sports reporter on one of the commercial networks here in Australia with Channel 7. I was there 14 years as a broadcaster, used to commentate to football games. But after being a reporter for the best part of 15 years and seeing how sports organisations run, that's where the real appetite for running a sports organisation came in and wanting to win championships. So I went and worked for a local football team, which is the Perth Glory, who play in the A -League. I was in a media marketing role there for a few years. Is that where Robbie Fowler played? He did the great man. God. Yeah. He used to come over to Mum's house every week for dinner. Shut up. Yeah. Are you serious? A gentleman. One of the most beautiful men. Yeah. We're always on the text to each other. He's a... You're friends with Robbie Fowler? Yeah. There we go. You're in. I want an interview with him. He's one of my childhood heroes. Oh wow. Yeah. And you know what? He's just a lad. He's just brilliant. He came and played for the organisation. And yeah, it was Monday night's dinner at Mum's house. He loved the Greek food, so we kept to a winning formula. That's unbelievable. Do you know the song the Liverpool fans sing about him? About we all live in a Robbie Fowler house. Do you know about this? I don't know. So Robbie Fowler is one of the footballers who was very smart with his money. He just bought just properties all over Liverpool constantly. And see, he's got this huge property portfolio in Liverpool. And so the Liverpool fans sing, we all live in a Robbie Fowler house. Yeah. He's a... He's God. He's God. He's just an awesome guy. Good fun to hang out with. And yeah, made so much time for the people of Perth. We had a great year together. And he's also very cheeky as well. There was a time where we weren't performing too well. We'd lost, I think, five games on the trot. And it was the time that Wayne Rooney was having a whole heap of issues with Manchester United. And we were about to do this live TV cross for Channel 7. And we knew the chairman wasn't too happy at the time. So I said, we've just got to try and deflect here. And Robbie had been in the UK for a week. And the presenter said, so Robbie, what was the trip to the UK all about? And he said, it was to chat to Wayne. And my phone had been, the media marketing guy just blew up, Fleet Street just went mad with this. It was just an off -the -cuff joke that we were trying to sign Wayne Rooney. And it was just everywhere within hours and we had to put out a press release and it was great because it deflected off the five losses that we'd had, but it was just a bit of a piss take. What was his scoring record like at Perth? Look, it wasn't as good as what it was at Liverpool. We would have been nice for him to score a few more goals, but the team struggled a little bit that year. And I think he ended up maybe with a dozen goals from memory somewhere around there. But it was a good year. And then again, I remember him taking out a little urn when England won the Ashes out before a game. And he put it up on his head and there was photos of it. He's just a great prankster in a lot of ways. He's an awesome person to have in your change room. And yeah, I'm really happy to call him a friend. So I went down the Robbie Fowler rabbit hole with my son the other week because, did you watch the Liverpool Newcastle game the other week? No, I missed it. Right. So I said to my son that there were two games when I was a kid when Liverpool played Newcastle. There were four, three consecutive years. The first one was a back and forth. I think Liverpool went 1 -0 up, then Newcastle went 2 -1 up, then Liverpool got it back to 2. Then they went 3 -2 up, then 3 -0. Liverpool went 4 -3. Stan Collimore in the 90th minute. It's an unreal game. And then a year later, Liverpool went 3 -0 up, Newcastle got it back to 3 -0. And then in the last minute, Robbie Fowler scores ahead of this flying header to go 4 -3. And so I then just had to explain Robbie Fowler to my son, why everyone said he was God. And we went down this kind of rabbit hole of Robbie Fowler goals. I was always really sad, though, because when he left Liverpool, I'm trying to remember, was it Leeds and Man City he went to? Did play both, yeah. Yeah, and I just couldn't accept him, not in a Liverpool shirt. Not in a Liverpool shirt, yeah. It didn't make sense to me. No, iconic to that club, and yeah. Absolute legend. Sorry, there's a bit of a tangent. OK, so going from commentator to chief exec, that's quite a jump. Did you have to kind of prove yourself you were capable? Did you have to pitch yourself for it? Look, I did the four years at Perth Glory in a media marketing role. I then stepped outside of sport for the first time in my career and just did some sales, what they called home and land packages here in Australia, selling some land in the house with it, and quickly went into a management role there with one of the companies. And then the opportunity came with the heat, and I was given the chance to run my first club, which was good because at the time I'd just started as president of a football club as well. So the management position was quite similar. I've run both roles now for the last five years, which has been brilliant. What is the mandate for the chief exec? How does it compare to, say, a chairman in a football team? Just look, every club's structure can be a little bit different, so yeah, a chairman for us is one of the shareholders, majority shareholder of our club, so he's who I report to. I've got the day -to -day running of the organisation, and I report to our chairman. What are the main things that you're responsible for the team in ensuring they've got the resources they need? Everything, yeah. Everything, yeah. I run the organisation. So it's basically probably almost identical to my role. Correct. Yeah, absolutely. Bigger numbers. Yeah, there's bigger numbers, but I don't think it really matters, and there's probably a good contrast with a football club. Whether you've got 10 members, 100 members, 1 ,000 members, a million members, the communication is still the same. You still treat your members the same way, regardless of how many zeros are involved. It's the same if you do a social media post, whether your club's only got 50 members or 50 ,000, you're still putting out information. So in some ways, don't get scared by the numbers. It's treat the position with respect and your members and partners, et cetera. Again, corporate partners, regardless of what the partnership value is, they're a corporate partner.

"This software is being used to imprison people right? It's being used for compliance reasons to censor transactions And so if this thing is inaccurate like we're just randomly pointing fingers at people, right? Like this is neither just nor democratic Hello from Australia. Hello from Down Under Finally made it here. I'm here with our boy Danny. It's great to be here. Very cool country Looking forward to getting out having some beers later, going for some food. Also looking forward to our event this Saturday Masonic Center in Sydney. There are still tickets available if you want to come it's gonna be me Danny We're gonna be joined by Nick Bartier Willy Woo Checkmate, Rusty Russell and Dan Roberts all on stage talking about Bitcoin So if you want to get a ticket head over to what Bitcoin did calm and click on WBD live Anyway, welcome to the what Bitcoin did podcast which is brought to you by the legends at Iris energy the largest NASDAQ listed Bitcoin miner Using 100 % renewable energy, I'm your host Peter McCormack and today on the show I have Lola Leets now this this interview came out of kind of nowhere really Lola posted a tweet thread up on X .com She'd written an article about chain analysis. Essentially. There is a ongoing lawsuit Whereby they had to admit there. There's no real Provable science behind their analysis and this has huge implications for certain Lawsuits where they've been using chain analysis software to track transactions on the blockchain now I won't be able to explain the details properly. That's what Lola will do in this interview But this has implications for cases like Roman Stirling off something we covered on the show So I want to thank a lot of coming on talking about this We will definitely get her back on the show in the future If you any questions about this or anything else, please do drop me an email as hello of what Bitcoin did dot -com Hi Lola, you've had quite the week I Definitely have yes I didn't have this show planned in obviously I was on Twitter the other day and I saw a tweet thread from you and I was like, huh? I've I've had Johnny from chain Alice's on my show I've got my suspicion about them. Yeah. Yeah, he was on the show a long time ago. I gave him a hard time I don't often give people a hard time. I gave him a hard time though That's interesting. I'll have to watch that. Yeah I'm not a fan of chain Alice's Not only do I not like what they do But I also think they're full of shit Yeah, that's that's a nice way to put it I think anyone that is a fan of chain Alice's may you know Have a little bit of a problem Well before we get into this Obviously anyone watching is going to see that you are green, but you're not really green in real life and You don't normally have like this toxic Background to you in more ways than one Well, what what can we tell people about you like how much can we tell them about you so they understand who I'm talking to I mean, my name is Lola. I've been in Bitcoin for quite a while. I Write about Bitcoin, that's that's what I do. And I mean, I don't think there's much more to know about me But you're a journalist I Mean, I wouldn't call myself a journalist I just like to I write opinion pieces mostly, right? So like it's debatable whether whether that is journalism or or it isn't right? Well, I would call it journalism Even if it's your opinion, you can be journalism. I think what you've done over this last Few weeks leading up to the last week is certainly journalistic It's the reason I want to talk to you today But you do also focus on privacy, right I do. Yeah, I focused on privacy mostly So I mean to give a little bit of background How I got into Bitcoin, maybe maybe that can give a little bit of context. So I got into Bitcoin Really opposite I would say of like how normal people got into Bitcoin maybe right? so there's this meme of you know, you come for the money and you stay for the revolution and For me, it was really the other way around So I had a friend who was telling me about you know This this new form of money this digital goal that has like all of these Perfect economic incentives and you know, I really couldn't care less like I'm completely disconnected from like this whole world of finance and investment But then he ended up saying something that really caught my attention and that was it's a money that can't be controlled by anyone but you and The reason that I found that interesting was because I've always been really interested in counterculture and so There's this saying in Bitcoin that like it's a tool to opt out which I think is a little bit of a sad way to put it maybe So I would rather like to say Bitcoin is a tool that allows us to build a parallel society That is potentially more fair and more just than the world that we're living in today and that's one of the reasons that that I write about the stuff that I write about because I felt like a lot of a Lot of like this viewpoint was was missing just from from the mainstream discourse and Bitcoin And so how how well do you think we've done in building this kind of parallel? Society that you want to opt into because we do have people now who live on a Bitcoin standard they travel the world When they get to a country or a city, they look to find people they can sell Bitcoin to so they have local currency We do have these nodes whether it's Berlin Bedford where I live in a small node El Salvador, Nashville There are these kind of nodes popping up whether it is like a density of Bitcoiners There are no places which will accept and take your Bitcoin Whenever you go to these places you tend to meet people who are You know, they don't have to be exactly like -minded, but you know, there's gonna be things you're gonna agree on So, how do you how far do you think we've come? I Do think that we've come pretty far with doing this I mean like just imagine that like 15 years ago is something like this would have been completely unimaginable, right? and so I do think like Despite all of the criticism there may be I do think that there's a lot of people doing these things and These parallel societies, you know already Existing in a way around the world.

"And then China, Taiwan, and, you know, they're classified as developing still. But for many practical purposes, they've, at least, you know, they pretty much reach developed status in many ways. And so they've been able to kind of climb that ladder. Also, Singapore was able to do it. So there's been these handful of Asian countries that have been able to do it. But when you look at how many countries there are out there, it's shockingly small percentage of the number of countries that able to climb that ladder in the past 50 years, especially if you say, okay, let's take away oil, let's say you don't you don't find just this massive treasure trove of oil in your country, or something like that. The percentage that have climbed that ladder is strikingly small. And I think El Salvador is taking some of the initial steps that would make that possible. And we just have to, you know, this is a multi decade process. So you have to see how well they can stick with it. This show is brought to you by Wasabi, who I am using to keep my Bitcoin private. "Commodity money is like nature's ledger. Bank money is basically a ledger governed by nation states. And then open source money like Bitcoin is money governed by the users. Hello there. How are you all doing? Our boys, Rael Bedford, won last night. It's our third game in the league. We've had two wins in a draw, so a pretty good start to the season. Anyway, welcome to the What Bitcoin Did podcast, which is brought to you by the Legends of Iris Energy, the largest NASDAQ listed Bitcoin miner using 100 % renewable energy. I'm your host Peter McCormack, and today I've got the first part in a three -part series with the amazing Lynn Alden. I know you're going to love this. Now, as you all well know, Lynn just recently dropped her book Broken Money, and we were lucky enough to get an advance copy and sit down and make a bunch of shows about it with her. So we originally planned to make one show, but we knew that it wouldn't work. So Danny pitched it to Lynn. He said, look, let's make this a three parter. Let's get into three parts, the past, the present, the future of money. And so in this one, the first one, we discussed the emergence of money and why gold won until the era of fiat currency. Okay. You know, Lynn, you know how incredible she is. And with this whole series in this book, she was as good as you had expected. Honestly, we probably could have made a 20 -part series covering everything in this book. So whilst you might enjoy this show we made with her, please also do support Lynn. Please do go out and buy a copy of the book. And quickly, before we get into the show, you Aussie Bitcoiners out there, it's just over a week to go. I'm going to be heading out to Sydney, to Australia for my first time. And on September the 9th, we have our live event. It's Nick Barty at Woolly Woo, Checkmate, Rusty Russell, and Dan Roberts, all on stage with me and Danny. And it's going to be a banger. So if you want to get yourself a ticket, head over to what Bitcoin did .com and click on WBD live. Outside of that, anything else? You got any feedback? Got any questions about the show? You can drop me an email. It's hello at what Bitcoin did .com.

"Bitcoin is, in my opinion, the future of money. Why trade it for euro or pound or dollars if you're going to hold on to the Bitcoin and be able to use it in the future? Hello from London. How are you all doing? Are you looking forward to your weekend? Right. I am here down in London. I've been recording a few interviews before I head off on holiday next week. I will need a short break for my kids. I've got a couple of great shows I've done this week, actually. So yesterday I interviewed Nigel Farage, which I know a lot of you are going to be interested in. And today I'm also going to be interviewing Constantine Kissen, which is something I've been following for some time. Very interesting guy. So looking forward to that. Then it's five days off, back for a few days, then I'm off to Australia for our live event, which by the way, if you're in Australia and you want to come, please do head over to whatbitcoindid .com, click on WBD Live and get yourself a ticket. Anyway, welcome to the What Bitcoin Did podcast, which is brought to you by the legends Iris Energy, the largest NASDAQ listed Bitcoin miner using 100 % renewable energy. I'm your host Peter McCormack. And today I have Samantha Duvall on the show. Now you might know that surname because her father Ben has also been on the podcast in the past. And now we have his daughter who is also, I think, better and smarter than her dad. Now I first heard about Sam and met her at BTC Prague. She got up on stage after Michael Saylor and absolutely crushed it. And I was so impressed with their presentation. I said to her dad, I said, look, she needs to come on the podcast. And for a couple of reasons, firstly, I don't want to be condescending. She's got this through merit. This isn't a novelty. But that said, I need a show to show my daughter. My daughter is a similar age. I've been trying to orange pill her. She just thinks I'm some weird boomer talking about stupid money. I want to put this show in front of her, see what she thinks, see if this inspires her. And hopefully this will be a great show to put in front of some of your kids as well, even if it's not your kids. Just listen, Samantha is super smart. She's a great Bitcoiner. I think she's got a great career ahead of us. Anyway, listen, you got any questions about this or anything else, drop me an email. It's hello what Bitcoin did dot com. "One of the things that held up the US dollar hegemony was the state of our institutions and the quality of our financial markets and the rule of law and the level of corruption and criminality that is on blatant display in Washington DC is appalling. And once you lose your ethical framework as a society, what do you have? Good morning from a very happy Bedford and a very happy chairman of the football team that just won their first FA Cup game. We're through to the next preliminary round of the FA Cup against MK Irish on Saturday, which was amazing. Also very cool. We had two Australian Bitcoiners, What Bitcoin Did, listeners who'd come into the country. They made the pilgrimage to Bedford and came and watched the game, which was amazing. Speaking of which, we're making the pilgrimage the other way round. September the 9th, Danny and I are going to be in Australia. We've got a WBD Live in Sydney with Nick Bartier, Willy Woo, Checkmate, Rusty Russell, and Dan Roberts all on stage. It's going to be a banger. Anyway, welcome to the What Bitcoin Did podcast, which is brought to you by the legends at Iris Energy, the largest Nasdaq listed Bitcoin miner using 100 % renewable energy. I'm your host, Peter McCormack, and today I've got everyone's favorite giant green chicken back on the show, the amazing Doonberg. Now, Doonberg's becoming a regular on the show now. I can find his analysis of almost anything, any weird stuff that's going on in the world, anything related to, you know, recently we've got superconductors, we've got aliens, we've got economic crisis. I find he is a good person to go to and talk to about this. Now, originally when we did book this, we did plan to talk about superconductors, but before we actually started recording, it came out that LK99 wasn't in fact a superconductor. So we talked about this and we talked about how they analyze this and how they came to their thoughts. But then we moved on to a broad range of subjects from cancer cure medicine to the BRICS currencies and everything Elon Musk is doing with X and why Doonberg has gone lurker mode on X, formally Twitter. And I couldn't let him leave without asking him about Bitcoin as well. Of course, I had to after his $5 ,000 call last time. Anyway, listen, I know you're going to love this one. I absolutely love talking to Doonberg. But you got any questions about this or anything else, please hit me up. It's HelloWhatBitcoinDid .com. Big green chicken. Good to see you. It's good to see you, Peter. How have you been? Yeah, really good. Really good. Yeah, just busy traveling a lot. Been out to Argentina since I spoke to you last. And I'm not sure if you saw the results that came in last night from their primaries. Yes, indeed. Making the big news. I might even ask you about that later on. Loads of weird stuff's been happening since we last spoke. Yes, indeed. Well, the good news is that the news flow means that we'll never have a shortage of things for us to talk about. No, I thought we were going to talk about superconductors. I definitely recently read your piece on the cancer -curing pill. And we've also had the US congressional hearings on aliens, among some of the things. So just your standard news flow for COVID world. Indeed, indeed. Where would you like to begin? I know the information has changed. But let's talk a little bit about the superconductor thing. Because the internet was feverish with excitement about the potential of the discovery of a superconductor. It turns out that it wasn't. What happened here? Were we hoodwinked? Were we tricked? Specifically, what was claimed was the development of a room temperature superconductor. Of course, if you cool down certain materials to low enough temperature, they do superconductive already display behavior. The discovery of such a behavior that could operate at room temperature, or in this case, they claim that they were able to observe superconducting activity at temperatures above the boiling port of water. That would truly be a world -changing discovery on par with fission and perhaps the development of semiconductors. And it is a holy grail. And that phrase is overused, of course. But the advent of such material would truly qualify for one of those. When we first saw the piece that was published, we were very skeptical of it. We wrote our own analysis of it in the days afterwards at the peak of the excitement, really, called Conducting Diligence. And over the years, we have used a five -question framework analyzing for such discoveries. And we applied it, introduced it, and applied it here. As background, when I was an executive in the corporate world, I led very large technology groups. And many CEOs get most of their science advance information in the Wall Street Journal or the Financial Times. And so it was very, very common for whoever my CEO was at the time to forward such things to me and demand my instant analysis of it. And oftentimes, I had to talk such people out of reorienting investment dollars to chase down the latest hype cycle. And so over those decades, really, we developed this framework that allowed us to systematically write five paragraphs to our executive overlords and to explain to them most of the times why such an advance was worth watching, but perhaps not worth acting on yet. Occasionally, one does pass that screen. And in this case, we use those five questions and concluded by saying that we're deeply, deeply skeptical. Happy to dive into the details as to why. But I do think that piece that we wrote has stood the test of time quite well. Yeah, before we dive in, can you explain why a superconductor would be such a game changer, though? There's the superficial reasons that the media likes to write about, which is, oh, you can imagine transmitting massive amounts of electricity with no loss and reorienting the entirety of our electricity grid. But in reality, in our view, it would be how a room temperature superconductor could facilitate advances in otherwise unrelated fields. And then the second and third order effects of those would be truly a game changer. In particular, collective computing, for example, would stand to benefit greatly from an advance in room temperature superconducting. And that field, of course, has had its own hype cycle. But quantum computing, a true advance in room temperature superconductors, for example, we believe could put the world of computing back on pace of exponential growth. If you squint at the log curves of the rate of computing advances, it seems to have slowed down a little bit in the past few years. Of course, we're still making massive advances. But it's the second and third order impacts from the other technologies that would be enabled by such an advance that we think would ultimately transform society. And look, all manner of sensitive electronic applications, a quantum computing advance would jeopardize encryption, for example. And there's just countless other ways that a step change like this would be very, very useful. And as we said in the piece, vast riches and a quick ticket to Stockholm to collect a Nobel Prize await those who succeed in demonstrating the phenomenon. And many serious physicists doubt that such an advance is even possible. So when you see such an enormous claim like this, it is irresistible that the hype wouldn't proceed in the way that it did. It's totally understandable. But at the same time, we had serious, serious doubts from the very beginning for the reasons that we wrote in that piece. Okay, so can you break down why you were skeptical in your piece? Yeah, so we asked five questions and I'll just list them carefully. They're simple questions. And the good thing about this approach is it doesn't require all that much in the way of specific expertise in the underlying area. And I should say up front, this is not something that I personally have a deep level of practical knowledge in the nuances of the science, but it's not needed in this case. So the five questions are, who's involved? Where was it published? Where are we in the scientific process? What is the scientific context? And then what should we expect next? And if you go through each of those questions, the first one, as with most human endeavors, the reputation and pedigree of the people involved matters. As we said in the piece, if Google and MIT announce a computing advance, you probably would be safe to bet that they have the goods. But if your neighbor tugs on your sleeve at a party and whispers quietly about an invention he's been working on in his garage for years that's sure to change the world, you'd probably be justified in having a healthy degree of skepticism here. The researchers involved have very good pedigree. The team is based in Korea, but they also collaborate with a relatively well -known physics professor at the College of William and Mary, and they seem to be trained in the field. And most importantly, one of the main inventors said they would be willing to support anyone trying to replicate the work, and we took that as a good sign. Things get a little sketchier when you consider where it was published, which is the second question. And here, these results were not published in a peer -reviewed journal of any pedigree. They were self -published as preprints on the internet, two of them, actually, one with three authors and the other with six. And the barrier to publishing a preprint is zero. You and I, Peter, could publish a preprint making claims to this very same website and generate a hype cycle of our own. That's not to say that the work was bad, but in our view, if this had passed peer review at a reputable journal, it would have lent more credibility to the claims. Unfortunately, this is not the world that we live in, and these preprints were hyped. And one of the reasons why this matters is because, as I believe, ultimately the story will dictate the misinterpretation of the data that this looks like is what happened. This would have been caught in that peer review process and would never have made the hype cycle, which is the third question. Where are we in the scientific process since it's unpublished? And basically, nobody would consider these results to be validated until independent researchers reproduce the work in their own laboratories. And one of the reasons why it's important to publish your paper in a journal and pass peer review is because a key job of editors at such journals is to ensure authors provide sufficient, specific details that allow others to confirm the work. And the good news with this is, as we pointed out in the piece, the compounds used were pretty simple and the synthetic procedures were rudimentary, which actually gave us even more pause because typically giant leaps of science don't usually arise from what we call kitchen chemistry, such as this. But on the other hand, the fact that it was so straightforward meant that others would very quickly be able to test whether the results were real. And then the fourth question is the scientific context. And here, we've had example after example of such claims falling flat, data being retracted. Sometimes it's fraud. Most often, it is misunderstanding of the phenomenon. And so, especially, you know, the equivalent would be claims of battery breakthroughs. You know, we've written another piece on this as well. There's certain fields where the prize is so high that the weaknesses of the scientific method as practice in the modern era are really on display. And the pursuit of a room temperature superconductor would be one of those. And then the last question is what should we expect next, which is exactly what has transpired. A bunch of people tried to reproduce it. Nobody has been able to do so. It appears as though experts have studied the preprints and their own experimental work and have come up with explanation an alternative for the phenomenon that was witnessed. And as we said in our verdict, nobody would be more thrilled to see these results validated than us. But we found ourselves deeply skeptical. The last point I would say is the leap was too far, the method is too simple, and the process too premature to get excited. And I think that was a good view at the time. So is their project dead or are they still working on it? Well, the problem with making such a hyperbolic claim is that it becomes difficult for people to continue to pursue the work. And there's really not that much to pursue here if the reinterpretation of the data is as the scientific community seems to be coalescing on. Because it's just not that interesting of a discovery. And so, you know, back to the drawing board. We were going to write a follow -up piece called What If. It's one of these pieces that was sort of written in my head that never saw the light of day because by the time we would have gotten it published it would have seemed a bit silly. But if this had been true, even if it was a small component or a minor byproduct, the state of industrial heterogeneous synthesis using high throughput techniques is such that the big companies would have obliterated this experimental map across all dimensions. Concentration, oxygen, temperature ramp, you name it. They would have done thousands and thousands and thousands of experiments. They would have found the exact molecule that worked. And that it can work itself is a gigantic discovery. And so if one can work, it would have taken weeks for the industry to isolate an entire family of these things, then the theory would have caught up to it very quickly. And there would have been something about these things that teaches theory something interesting, which then would very quickly inform the synthetic chemists as to how to optimize and create. It would have been, you know, like how the first person to break the four -minute mile and suddenly everybody does it. That this would have been one of those situations where raw the power of the high throughput synthesis discovery workflows in the big multi -deca billion -dollar chemical companies would have made short work of this, would have optimized it very quickly. There would have been no barriers to, no meaningful barriers to commercialization because materials involved were so simple and so widely available that cooking them in a certain unique way is of no challenge whatsoever to the industry. So if there was even a possibility that this had once worked, that would have been game -changing, but it doesn't look that way, unfortunately. What is the general state of scientific research and peer reviews? Because there was a period, certainly post -COVID, where this has been hotly debated and the trust the science mean was spreading quite regularly with people just having vast doubts about peer -review studies and the peer -review process. What have you looked at into that, or is that just... Oh, there's a huge ongoing retraction scandal in the scientific world, and as we said in the piece, you know, peer review on its own doesn't mean that this is fundamentally accurate science. It still needs to be reproduced in other labs for it to really go from an observation to, say, an accepted theory or accepted experimental set of results. But the state of modern science is poor right now, and it's because it is performed by humans who are susceptible to the hype cycle, the need for funding.

A highlight from Trump pleads not guilty at arraignment for 2020 election indictment
"Welcome to today's podcast, sponsored by Hillsdale College, all things Hillsdale, hillsdale .edu. I encourage you to take advantage of the many free online courses there. And of course, listen to the Hillsdale dialogues, all of them at hughforhillsdale .com or just Google Apple, iTunes, and Hillsdale. Morning Glory America, I am Hugh Hugh, but I'm not there today. I am off for the next few days flying with grandkids. And so I just want you to know before they go away, and I'm not counting down the hours that they leave, and I'm really sad that they're going to be leaving. Really, I am sad. I love them to death, and they got to go to the other side of the world, and it would be a while till I see them. So I'm taking a couple of days with them. I did pre -record Dr. Larry Oren on the Trump indictment yesterday, so we do have him standing by coming up in hour three. But for the first two hours, General Isham, I thank you, Dwayne, for taking on over the load today. Take it away. Thank you. Thank you, Hugh Hewitt, Dwayne Patterson, in for Hugh today. And on Monday, we've got lots of news. It's just another summer day of politics in the Beltway. Nothing out of the ordinary, just a four -count indictment and arraignment of a former president, growing corruption involving Joe Biden and his son Hunter, and the fact that the Devin Archer testimony from this week was released showing that Joe Biden has been lying to you every day of his life about his involvement and culpability in the Hunter -Biden affair. There's all sorts of stuff breaking today. We will have that for you as the program progresses. As Hugh said, in hour three, Dr. Larry Oren will be joining Hugh for the Hillsdale Dialogue. And if you remember back to 2015 and 2016, Dr. Oren was one of the first people to say something is afoot here, and kind of put his finger on the pulse of a change of attitude when it came to the candidacy of Donald Trump and knew that the American people were ready for a change. And they kind of addressed that because at least half the country is just not happy with how things are going right now. They don't have trust in the federal agencies. They don't like the way the DOJ is selectively prosecuting. There is something afoot going on. And so a lot of that is discussed in hour three. I will be joined today by Sarah Bedford of the Washington Examiner to see how the Hill is reacting to both fronts, both the growing corruption scandals surrounding Hunter Biden and Joe Biden, plus congressional reaction to the arraignment of Donald Trump yesterday. Let's get right to it. Donald Trump was kind of bookend of the day, a little bit doing media. He was on the Simon Conway radio show yesterday morning before going to D .C. and had this to say, cut number one, Harley. I think it's a very dangerous thing to even talk about because we do have a tremendously passionate group of voters. And I mean, maybe, you know, maybe 100, 150. I've never seen anything like it. Much more passion than they had in 2020 and much more passion than they had in 2016.

Just today. Worried about right this minute. Bob Larson is with us, and we've got the snow continuing to fall and still a few bands of some heavier precipitation buried in here. Yeah. Yeah, we do. It's a studies Don't fall throughout. In some cases, moderate to heavy stuff of visibility still down. Some cases come back up to bile. But in most cases still below a bio about a half mile, so stop to see in the snow continues to fall across the area, and since we are in the twenties Snow is not really belting certainly where roads have been treated, it's become a little slushy, but that's an exception rather than the rule. "He discovered the damage He calls it in, Um My captain at the North End station put out an email to all the offices they need. This incident happened. But that was that. Like 3 33 45 in the afternoon, right before I got my shift. Now they, the police chief for the mayor said on WB sm that they put out a bolo A be on the lookout for is that is that true, Hank? They did. That's the thing out tomorrow and he's retracted. They didn't put out of pain. Yeah, what they did was they put out a. They put out an electronic device message and hand can address this better than I can. But rather than put out a bolo that goes to all cars in the city. On the police radio and goes through all of the different police departments throughout the community. They didn't do that. What they did was they sent out electronic device message that went to only a handful of choirs that happened have computers in them. So the people I can't urgent. Do you think about work all day long? They have no knowledge that there's a guy out there over the gun. Potentially could be targeting them, and they went all day without this knowledge and into the evening shift, and the police chief says, Well, we can't let this information out because it would it would hamper our investigation. So that's why we didn't make it public. The chief insisted a bolo went out and we found out we were able to prove today that you didn't so he retracted that statement. But after we can't we can't get anybody to take any kind of responsibility. For what happened here in terms of trying to cover this up or or even that explain why Wouldn't be standard procedure. Hey, wouldn't be standard procedure, too. If somebody fires a gun at any kind of home and you have the license plate number, wouldn't wouldn't it be standard operating procedure for any police department to put out a bolo on this? I would say yes, There are certain circumstances where you don't put it over the air, and like I said on Barry show today is everybody has a scanner on their smartphone. Now you can download APS and everybody gets to hear it. And so this pertinent information. That the department doesn't want to share with the public. They consented to the terminals the card terminals and they can put the announcement out, saying, um, contact the station, so we just sent they below to the terminals. Check your cruises for information that way that caught that's on the detail. The, uh, the contents at home. I get a phone call agent here that what's that below? They stopped questioning. They'll find out what's going on. We've made some recommendations to the chief and how he could make sure this doesn't happen again. And how we can get that information out off. Tops is quickly for office and safety and he hasn't even had the decency to respond to us. We have the better so You have the license number of the car that the person who fired the shots at the police officers home. Was in. I mean, that should be pretty easy to run that down, right? So they did, and the detectives working. This case is several agencies involved. They did a fantastic job. The college recovered soon after that license plate was Was discovered from the video that people work in the case of doing a phenomenal job is the information sharing that's like said that You would then our feelings. This rep. Personal look, it Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. Uh, phone is breaking up. But we'll talk to bury here. Very it. What is the local newspaper? The standard times doing with this? I assume they're splashing all over the front page. You mean you mean the bird feeder liner that they've done? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. No other media touch this. There are two major issues here really short and sweet. How we number one that the decision was made to keep this from the public, which is which is an ongoing problem here, and the second problem is because of below was not issued. Police officers in the rank and file in New Bedford went to work all day long without knowledge that a gunman had attacked two police officers home and maybe I looking for them, and none of the surrounding towns were notified either. So that you know, this guy apparently drove from New Bedford through Dartmouth, through West Board and into fall River where he abandoned the car. None of these police departments were notified that they had a gunman potentially, you know, so so these people were left. Really out there with no knowledge. They could have been victimized by this guy, And then they had no knowledge that he was even on the on the on the lam out there and this is I mean, somebody needs to be responsible for this. Yeah. You know what the state police Trooper, the sergeant who was arrested by the after allegedly beating his girlfriend and Exeter, New Hampshire last weekend. You know he didn't fire his gun. I mean, he can't commit. He throttled his girlfriend, Eddie, they say was he may have been drunk, but but they put out a bolo on him. What he did as bad as it was was less serious than shooting into us into a police officer's home. I mean, this is crazy. Everything guys still on the loose damn crack after this guy. This guy is potentially a threat to any police officer in Massachusetts or wherever he may have wandered. You know, 100 days very loosely understand something against the police? So is Hank back on the line. Yes, it is. Can you get me? Okay. Now How? Hank, What do you say? The mayor for rough? What would you say to the mayor? If he were listening right now, if he is listening Well. When the mayor called very show, he said they purposely didn't release it to the public because there was no longer a threat. And I told Barry that's absolutely wrong. We haven't The guy's not in custody. How is it? Not a threat? Still, how do you not go to that neighborhood and say we're gonna have extra resource is which we have uniformed patrols all over that neighborhood. How does the mayor the chief not going? Tell that neighborhood you know we're watching out for you? One of your neighbors. One of our brothers in blue was attacked. This is attack on all of us. This is a attack on the In blue line, need that born of society, and he happens to live in your neighborhood. We're gonna help all of all of you through this, and they haven't done that. Mm. Wow. Well, listen, keep us informed about what's going on Barry and Hank and we appreciate it. Thanks for Thanks for your service, Hank. And this is this is really bad. They, you know, people. Cops need to know what's going on. And so does the general public. I mean, the guys running around shooting and shooting at a cop's home. I would want to know that And I think most of the citizens well, maybe if we reported that he wasn't wearing a mask, Maybe Charlie Parker would have sent a posse out looking for him. And now they would've found it by now, you know? That's the important thing. That's the important thing. And if he was out after curfew toe, that's the That's the other thing. You know, You know what? What's the curfew? Now? I forget. All right. Hank Turgeon, the president of the New Bedford Police Union, and very Richard, the host of WB, smr our affiliate in New Bedford, A and 14 20. We appreciate you being with us, and this is an good job. "It's considered a pretty big deal. Important news when a Police officer. Law enforcement officer is shot at or his home is shot at It's a very big news. If it goes out to everybody, including the department. They're looking for people that putting out a bolo of be on the lookout for etcetera, etcetera. Well last week in New Bedford, Massachusetts. A cops door, uh, was shot at when he was on duty was shot eight times. And the Police Department apparently decided not to release the news. And they didn't even put out much of a much of an alarm to their own department. And the story was broken by our affiliate in New Bedford, WBS M and the host Very Richard and the he got the information from cops, and it was confirmed by city counselors and the and police officers, and it's just It's just amazing that they they wanted to keep this secret. So joining us now on the line, we'll talk to bury Richard First the host. At our affiliate W B s M a. M. 14 20. Then we'll talk to the head of the New Bedford Police Union. Uh, Hank Turgeon is his name it just about this. Why? Why didn't the chief and the mayor have any interest in letting the public know what was going on? Berry. Richard. Good job breaking the story. First of all. That's how we appreciate you having me on. Tell me give us give our audience the details on on what happened that night. It was a week ago tonight, correct. Actually was a week ago this morning, and I'll give you a real quick thumbnail. But maybe 2 30 in the morning a week ago today Police officers apartment was fired upon now this police officer lived in a public housing unit. Okay, part of the community policing program, I think started under the Clinton years, right? Police officers move into public housing, and I guess they're supposed to foster a greatest sense of And, you know, respect and trust in that community involved. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. So he's so he's up on duty doing a shift and about 2 30 in the morning, This car pulls up the police. Have videotape from a surveillance camera in the neighborhood. So this this car pulls up circles the block a few times guy gets out. You can see him on the videotape, dressed in dark clothes, walks up to the to the apartment walks around a little bit. Then boom unleashes eight shots into the apartment takes up so the police were able to capture on the surveillance camera, the car and the license plate. On that car. So here's the rest of the story. Nobody called in and reported this. None of the neighbors called then the shot spotter in the neighborhood that's supposed to pick up the sounds of gunfire never recorded. The sounds of gunfire, so nobody called the police. It wasn't until the officer came home from his shift at about 7 38 o'clock. He noticed the damage any called the detectives on the telephone, so this never went out. On the police radio. There was never you know, all cars go to this this location of up above the bus, so there's no traffic there, so the detectives responded to the scene and A decision was made somewhere along the line by police Chief Joseph Cordero and and the mayor of the city, New Bedford, John Mitchell, not to tell the public about this Now. This is not unusual here. Crime stories generally swept under the carpet, the Mayor is more interested in the image of the city. And I think perhaps sometimes of themselves as well and doesn't like this kind of news to get out bad news. Not good for business, I guess right? Not good for tourism. So it's some point. How many tourists are going to the way it is wailing Museum even open, But if it is how many people to go into the whaling Museum where the the scenic You know what Downtown area or going to a public housing project. Well, this thing you've ever really undertaken a real strong and solid renaissance and revival in the past few years. Unfortunately, the pandemic Has impacted it has it has many other communities. Nice restaurants, shops downtown, and they stopped coming to get it. You know, over the years, the city backwards getting a lot of bad press. The only time the Boston media comes down here. What kind of where you look kind of like, long direct between Providence in Boston, So we get covered by the province Media. The Boston media when there were murders when there were crimes, whether bad things negative. Thanks. So there's really not A lot of good press coverage. Well, I tell you, the commissioner, the commissioner in Boston, William Grassi, just quit the last week. He wouldn't He wouldn't. Absolutely be out of the police shooting and he would be there conducting of the press conference himself. You'd be there for most shootings, period, but especially a police shooting. It's crazy Commissioner should be in the mayor should be as well. Let me let me let me bring in Hank. Let me bring in Hector Jin the he's the president of the New Bedford Police Union. Hank Turgid. Thanks for being with us here on the how weak our show. What? What's the problem here with the reaction of the City administration? How we Thanks Pat me on the show. And before I jump right into that I need to thank that we'd be assembly ery riches and Chris McCarthy for breaking this story without them. Obviously, we wouldn't be on your show and The mayor and the chief would be hiding crime stats in the city like they've been doing for the last couple of years. We've been trying to point it out and Just haven't gotten any traction. So why? Why? When did you find out about this, Hank? So I worked the four to midnight shift.
