"Tyone, mediocre pitcher, Nestor Cortez, a little bit better, you know? The Major League Baseball, they want the Yankees in the ALCS against the Astros, the blockbuster matchup, and then, you know, they kind of string things along with The Rain delay last night, you know, no updates for anyone even all the people in the stadiums. So I feel like it was like a little bit of a head fake, you know, for the Yankee fans and also kind of a gift to the Yankees organization because all these people are stuck in their stadium. They're buying food. They're buying booze, not a discounted prices. So it's the best of both worlds for everyone. I think it makes a lot of sense. Sarah, you buy in any of that? So I feel like I'm at liberty to judge very well here because I actually took a conspiracy theory class in college where this was part of my education. You majored in conspiracy theories. In conspiracy theories. So I was with Taylor until he said that they weren't updating the crowd, which makes me think they were doing actually everything they could to get the game going and not wanting the crowd to leave because if they left and the game continued, we would be in a difficult situation. But a for effort, a prep. I got to say at the moment, I'm not very open in conspiracy theory. And one of these on a late season Sunday Night game where it's in the middle of the communication between people about whether or not the game is going to rain out or was it not going to rain out. And a story came out saying that ESPN hang in there and try to get the game played because they want to resume because they wanted an Aaron judge at bat. And I just, I was laughing, knowing exactly where each of those executives were in the moment, and yet we were a thousand words a conspiracy theory. So Taylor, I'm going to tell you later why I think you're wrong, okay? Okay. I'm ready for it. All right, well, game 5 is scheduled to be played today at four O 7 Eastern Time. Nestor Cortes will pitch on three days rest for the Yankees. That's a change for the Yankees. They initially hit scheduled jamison tie on, but as we talked about on the podcast yesterday, Nestor Cortez is in the circle of trust. And he'll be facing a fully rested Aaron sobol who, let's face it, probably is not going to last that long. The guardian's tremendous bullpen is fully rested and this is probably a bullpen game. Later today, after that game in all likelihood, the Phillies will take on the Padres in San Diego to start the national league championship series is rob Thompson, the Phillies manager, talking about what it feels like to be in the NLCS. Pretty fantastic really. I mean, you know, as I've said many times, we came out of spring training and we knew we had a real good ball club. So being here doesn't really surprise me. Based on the club we thought we had come out of spring training, but we got off to a slow start and it kind of snowballed a little bit and I think the club lost your confidence a little bit. And then in May, we really had a tough schedule. And then in June, we started turn it on and got hot, stayed hot, confidence grew back into the team. And they've rolled right through it. So it's been pretty good. And my surprise that we're here now, but based on the start of the season, maybe a little bit. Yeah. Rob has asked about postseason pressure. I think we'll play just exactly the way we're playing. I think our guys are really loose, really poised. They're owning up to the moment every moment. It comes their way, and I'm proud of them for that. And I don't think I don't think their mindset or their heartbeat will change one bit. The Padres are the 5th seed in the national league, the Phillies are the 60 in the national league is that as opposed to began in Bryce Harper was asked about similarities between Philadelphia and San Diego. I mean, I think people kind of counted us both out, right? I mean, it was kind of just LA is going to win or the braves are going to win or the mets are going to win because those three teams are so, so good and so dynamic and they had such great regular seasons as they always do. I think this is going to be a great series. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I know that we're looking forward to it as a team and the opportunity to come in here and hopefully win a game and get home. And I think we're all excited for that opportunity and we're looking forward to it. The Padres are favored to win the series and manager bob Melvin was asked about that. Yeah, I don't think matters are all good teams we're playing and these guys playing great right now. So we've got our work cut out for us just as much as we did the last couple of series. But we kind of try to more concentrate on what we're doing. Our style of play and kind of go from there. And he was asked about facing the Phillies. Doing some things a little differently. You know, certainly have some starters to get your attention, some bullpen guys. I think they're getting Robertson back to making short in games there. They have power. They run the bases. They steal bases. They can beach in different ways. So we have to be ready for them. Any number levels. Speaking of the Padres, there was a story in the San Diego union tribune that suspended padre star Fernando Tatís Jr. had a second surgery on his left wrist last week. That's the one he heard in the motorcycle accident last off season. There were recovery time he isn't expected to alter his status for the 2023 season. As you know, he was suspended right after the trade deadline and he was already going to miss the first 40 games or so of the 2023 season. Taylor, what else you got? It seems very daunting that he's going to miss 40 games next year still.

"That's how important he is to them, but with all these free agents out there and all these big market teams that need a shortstop, dance move is going to get even more from the braves. If he stays. And I think he's going to stay, but note my hesitation. Give me 45 seconds on this. Which team represents a greater threat to the Astros, the Yankees or the guardians. I'm going to say it's still the Yankees because even though pitching and defense win in the postseason and the guardians can do both, I still think there's that whole rivalry factor. I think the Yankees with Garrett Cole and the rest of that starting pitching can match up basically with the starting pitching at least of the Astros or at least come close. And I just think the judge and power factor is something that the guardians don't have. So it's close. I can see the guardians giving a hard time to anyone at this time of year, but I'll take the Yankees. I can't wait for the game tonight because and we won't get too deeply into it because by the time some people listen to this, the game may be underway or it might be over. But I'm fascinated by this game 5 because of the respective circle of trust that each manager seemed to have with the pitchers they could use tonight. On one hand, Terry Francona has all of his key relievers rested for the last two days, like all the big guys. So Aaron soval, if he runs into trouble, I think at that point, Jerry Frank Conan will rely on guy's relied on the whole year. Maybe a little bit longer, you know, maybe those guys be back end of his bullpen will account for 5 innings tonight. But on the other hand, put into very, it feels like a very different circle of trust. And he's going to start jamison tie on and I'm sure that the Matt Blake that the Yankees pitching coach is going to have his hand on the bullpen phone as soon as the game starts if there's any issue with tie on, but the circle of trust for Aaron Boone, I feel like tonight will involve waldy Peralta, who as you know, the Yankee staff, look at this guy as being the most fearless pitcher, afraid of nothing. Forget the fact that he's pitched the last few days. They're not going to worry about that. He's going to pitch tonight. Jonathan Lewis is going to look better is going to pitch tonight. And I also think Nestor Cortez, Tim has a chance to play a major role in this game just because of how much trust they have in him. What do you think? Yeah, well, Nestor Cortez speaking of fearless, you could put him in, I believe, in any spot. You know, he started all year. Let's put him in the bullpen. It would work tonight with him because he simply doesn't care. You turn your back literally on a hitter once in a while and do some of the gyrations he does. That's a confident kid. And I wouldn't be surprised if we saw him tonight. And I'm with you on this bullpen. But I think they're going to tell James and tionne, we know this is a winner take all game. But we're going to need you to go as deep as you can. We're not going to risk it, but I think they have to tell them, look, we've got bullpen options, but we need you just like we need a Garrett Cole to go as long as you can go. So sure, Matt Blake is going to be ready to call the bullpen, but I think James and ty own is going to go out there knowing I got to do at least as far as volume goes, something close to what Garrett Cole did last night. Yeah, and I think they would love for that to happen. The one thing that I remember a conversation that had with John smoltz 15 years ago and he talked about in the postseason, it's the guys who miss bats who ascend and I feel like as this game starts, you will see Aaron Boone manage aggressively in part because town doesn't really miss bats. You know, 7.7 strikeouts per 9 innings. So if the guardians start to put runners on base, I don't think Boone will wait that long. I don't, but we'll, you know, we'll see how it plays out. I wanted to ask you about some of the resistance that Aaron bones kind of seems to be bumping into with some of his players. Clay Holmes made clear. He disputed Boone's public stance he wasn't available for game three. Luis severino seems to question Boone's decision about Holmes and gain three. Then boni shook up his lineup in game four after Isaiah kind of left with his band. She told reporters that sitting on the bench stonk saying it is what it is before adding that he's glad they got the win. So it feels like that there's a lot going on here for Aaron Boone Tim. Well, it feels that way because it is that way. And when you have your former closer who's still your closer when he's healthy, questioning the manager and you bench your starting shortstop, even for one game to put a rookie in there, that even played 30 major league games. That's unusual for a player to be play in an elimination game at a position where he's only played 30 games there, but this is where Aaron Boone has had to try some things because things just haven't gone particularly well since that 52 and 18 start. He's had to do an awful lot of stuff and he's continuing to juggle here just to get to the next round. And if they do get to the next round and face the Astros, you got to think there's going to be a lot more juggling going on for Aaron Boone so he had better get used to it. Well, the one thing I'd say to ik is or other players in that team, like Aaron Bowen, if he's making a choice here, it's because he legitimately believes this gives his team the best chance to win based on what he's seen in the moment. You know boonie Tim. Oh, absolutely. Aaron Boone comes across as really nice guy, which we all know that he is. But there is an inner competitiveness to him that he has no interest in not winning this series and he's going to do whatever it takes if he ruffles a few feathers, deep down inside. I don't think he cares. I agree with you. All right, Tim, thanks for doing this. Enjoy tonight. Enjoy this week. I know you're going to be on baseball tonight. All right, buster. Thank you. See you guys. Brian

And it was so funny because Jason manetti and Gordon Beck, and we're kind of talking about that. You know, he's not coming out. He barely touched 90 or 92. And yet it was working for him and you're watching kind of waiting for that other shoe to drop, but to your point, it's probably not going to for a while because it's so outside of the norm these days. Yeah, think about all the preparation you hear about from a hitters these days to hit high velocity, right? They're in cages. They're working with their personal hidden coaches in the mornings of games. They're going back out batting practice. Everything is high velocity, high velocity, how to get to the fastball. And here comes Johnny cueto with the shake and his shimmy and his change. And by the way, when I first started covering baseball a million years ago, you saw more of that. Like you had all these specialists relievers, right hander, who come in for one guy, left hander, Mike mcnally, for example, you remember him with the Oakland athletics. Those guys just saw every day in games. And now you really don't. Because of our teams pursue velocity and use velocity. All right, Sarah, great to talk with you. Thanks so much for having me, buster. Bleacher.

"Tweets already buster bleacher tweets for a Wednesday, and as promised in our previous segment with Todd radham, here is our weekly quiz for you buster. You gotta be on the record for this one. Oh boy. So here we go. You try to get out of this too before we record. Let the listeners know here. All right, here's the question. Which team has the longest active winning streak of World Series games one? Is it a, the San Francisco Giants? B, the Cincinnati reds, C, the Chicago White Sox, or D, the Saint Louis Cardinals. Gotta be the reds. Winner winner chicken dinner buster. Wow. Wow. Didn't even blink. No hesitation. Now, now some there are some parts of my brain that don't work. That's one part of my brain that works. All right, well, hey, aren't you glad you did the question then? Yep. I didn't feel like a genius. How'd you guys do with that question? Not great. I'm so wrong. All right. Forgot that. Well, the order to the universe has been reestablished then. Absolutely. All right, let's go to the tweets. We got a whole batch from here. Pat Johnson at the melting pad is up first. Pat writes in on Thursday, my son, Arthur will be a year old, happy birthday. They Arthur. I think I have to thank the podcast crew for getting us through TV and COVID and late night feeds to make this about baseball who climbs from the seller first. My Phillies or Taylor's Orioles. Yeah, the Phillies. I don't think it's close, and by the way, pat, congratulations. That is actually a fun time and being a parent. But it's got to be the Phillies, because the Orioles have a ways to go. I keep on getting all the tweets from world fans who are like, you need to give the Orioles credit. I'm like, okay, you know, they're a little better, but that's like going from an F grade to a D I mean, they're still on a pace to win like 68 games. My buddy texted me a couple of days ago and was like, oh, the oils turn the corner. I'm like, they can just, you know, this is a bound to happen in baseball. You know, a couple stringing together. I mean, the bar was so low. Hey, we won more than 52 games. You know, we'll see. And the key question is, is as the team gets better and this talent that they've been collecting by tanking grows will ownership spend money the way that the cubs in the Astros did to augment it. That's the key question. Would you agree with me? Oh yeah. And I mean, when are we going to start seeing these young guys too? Right. They're all being held up in the miners, and it's incredibly frustrating to watch. Another one of my Friends has convinced me that all these guys are going to be good. So that's where my head is right now. Who knows how reasonable that is? Let's go to Ed at EF cade, maybe. My submission for bleacher tweets, having the cameraman on the field during the player celebration is a distraction thoughts. And they're not. I kind of like the up close and personal. And I know in some of the cameramen who have had that job, do we at duke and then we have Jared, great guys, players like it. I like it. And players aren't bothered by it. Andrew Campbell at real camp drew is up next, Andrew writes, and hey buster, it's become quite fun watching future all star Nestor Cortez just deal every 5 days. But the way the league's pitchers are ahead of the batters this year isn't as much fun, Major League Baseball's average is two 33, the league OPS 6 77 he threw in a barf emoji in there. Any way we can fix this. Yeah, I do think they will have some sort of regulation shifts next year. I hope they have some sort of a regulation. The use of relief pitchers, which I think is contributing this because you're seeing a parade of guys who are throwing 98 mph. And I agree with you about context being so important. And in Nestor Cortes is terrific and you see in a lot of great pitching stats, but it reminds me of the late 90s when everyone was hitting 30 homers. Like the feet of hitting 30 homers didn't feel quite as exciting because the context. Mike mosque at the mosque three is up next. Heim bloom's fingerprints are all over the Red Sox failure. He's constructed an aging rotation and an awful bullpen who's the closer he's alienating fans and destroying the Clubhouse by mishandling Bogart's contract. I think that's all correct. Well, and I'd say this. I mean, haim bloom is not alone in the decisions when it comes to paying Xander bogarts. That's an ownership decision, not heim's decision. He might give a recommendation, but in the end, it's up to ownership to decide whether or not they feel like keeping Xander bogarts is the centerpiece is worth it to the organization and as it meant saying the podcast, they damn well better reassess that because I think it's clearly having an effect on the team. Don Irvine writes in all 5 teams in the NLS or above 500, are they all that good or is this a fluke that will correct itself by the end of the season? Flu, I don't think there's any chance the rockies finish at 500. Danny norlander at DL norlander is up next. He writes in hey buster, the Nats are the second best team in total hits this year fourth and batting average, 9th in runs and RBI, but they're pitching as awful 29th and the ERA and whip any chance of a turnaround with the return of Strasbourg dolittle and Harvey by June and July. No, I think Mike Rizzo, their general managers demonstrated. He will be aggressive when it comes to flipping assets when he feels like that the Nats don't have a chance within the context of division led by the braves and the mets. I don't think they have a chance to contend this year. Last one for today, chief beef at Carl havoc. I love this Red Sox piling on makes me so happy. He writes in Xander bogarts, not being paid, has nothing to do with the bullpen not being able to hold and save games, same goes for the bottom of the order not being able to hit their way out of a paper bag. I don't know. I mean, I think it can be related to some degree because the offensive struggles. And it's possible that some of what's going on with the offense, you might be related to what happened with bogarts. And guess what? That's put more pressure on the pitching. And the pitching, you're right, has folded. So I do think that they're interconnected in some way. Already, that will do for bleacher tweets, hashtag bleacher tweets on Twitter while you're watching the games, please follow rate and review this podcast wherever you listen to your podcast and.

"So right now, the stretch of next 9 games is the antithesis of the 2021 New York Yankees. So not really optimistic. Like you said, still rooting for my team, but, you know, rip the band aid off. And if the season's gonna end early, it's gonna end early. And I can't care because this isn't working for the most part. It's not working to the magnitude at which it should. And hopefully the failures of this team will require some Jurassic moves from the front office, which haven't happened in a pretty long time. So it's going to sound some alarm bells if the season doesn't turn out the way it should. And I either way I'll be happy with this result. Yankees get another playoffs. Very cool, deep team, scary team to face playoff baseball everyone, you know is very different. Every single pitch matters. And then you have a guy like Jericho, who can take over a game, that's sweet. You have Nestor Cortez, who's risen to the occasion. That's great. You have hitters like John Carlos Stanton, who seemingly shines in August and September and Aaron judge who's typically always delivered in the postseason, threatening team. Could be fun, but also if the season ended great back to the drawing board like get figure out how we're gonna reconstruct this entire roster and get back to our winning ways because if this is embarrassing, this should be embarrassing for everybody because it's embarrassing for the fans. That's how you know the organization itself needs to be feeling the heat in terms of in terms of making overarching moves to orchestrate some sort of facelift. So I'm fine with either outcome because I know I know what I'm watching. You know, it's like Aaron Boone and the Yankees don't need to tell me what I did or didn't see on a given night. I saw a bad effort. You don't need to tell me that there was a lot of fight, you know? Shit like that. So whatever happens happens, guys. That's the universe. That's the world for you. Enjoy it. Silver lining and everything aches make the playoffs could be fun, Yankees don't big changes coming, new era on the way. Great. Yeah, the gas lit by Aaron Boone podcast. "You guys had a fantastic weekend out there i myself. I had a great weekend saturday. A buddy of mine. He had his wedding celebration. They got actually married last year during the pandemic but now the things are opening up they were able to finally have their celebration get together. That was down the jersey shore stone harbor new jersey down there to celebrate the drinks flow in the music was going cornhole outside. It was a lot of fun that went late into the evening and then on sunday had myself around a golf went out. there played eighteen. Shot eighty eight forty on the front nine forty eight on the back. Nine just ran out of gas after a late saturday. Evening out there but watched more 'akaola tecoma the british open during the afternoon and decided that looks like fun. Let's go out and try to mess around there a little bit so recording this late on sunday night here the eighteenth. Obviously you know. I feel like crash it right now but i wanted to get you guys out equality quality episode here for monday to start your week off strong after what you guys. Hopefully it was a fantastic weekend. Of course baseball's back in full swing after taking this week off for the all star break and then unfortunately in the second half we had ourselves a bit of a delay to start in the second half thursdays yankees red sox game was ultimately postponed due to six positive coverted cases within the new york yankees and this is just fascinating in new york because they are one of the teams who have hit that eighty five percent threshold and yet. This is the second time they've dealt with a. I'll call it a miniature cova outbreak. We haven't had any full teams. Go down but the yankees seven six guys test positive was certainly not the way you wanted to start the second half now. Among those six you had aaron judge so that's a big loss for the yankees as judges in covert protocol. you also had third baseman gio or shelhah catcher. Kyle haggas soka relievers. Jonathan loose soghi. Nestor cortez junior and wani peralta all tested positive on the rapid return testing which major league baseball to ultimately postponing their game on thursday against the red sox. Now i don't understand. Or how many positive cases it takes ultimately get game postponed but the philadelphia phillies. We're in boston right. Before the all star break so say a week and a half ago now at this point and they had a small outbreak third baseman alec bomb pitcher aaron nola few other relievers test positive or be put in protocol. I want to say the number was four or five and their game didn't postponed so what's going on major league. Baseball is it because the phillies are under five hundred and you don't think anybody cares about them and the fact that it was the only game on the schedule for the yankees and red sox but why are we. Postponed yankees games and we're making the philadelphia phillies go out there and have a bullpen game on the sunday before the all-star break is it because philly doesn't go back to boston so you didn't wanna reschedule everything or is the magic number. Anything over five liked philly said five cases the yankees had six. And once you get to six you can postpone again so if you guys out there. Listening know why a yankees game was postponed in yet other teams have been forced to play through potential positive cases. Let me know. Because i think that's fishy man. I'm not a huge fan of that. Honestly just be consistent right like the home plate empires if you're gonna call a pitch a foot outside a strike. Do what every time i mean. Come on what's going on here. Bobby manfred oh the the yankees have positive tests. So we're gonna delay their games 'cause we we don't want them to to miss any games or have to make up at the phillies they stink. Yeah they can go ahead and play. We don't care about them like what's the deal here man so i just thought that was super sketchy by major league baseball. Obviously you want to be safe. Keep guys safe. But man the moment the yankees got cancelled. It was like well. What the heck the phillies had to play their. Starting pitcher was out the next day. You force them to go out with relievers for the full nine innings. Like what's up here. So i was just a bit frustrated by that is a phillies fan but overall again if you guys know what. The reasoning exactly was feel free to get in the comments. Hit us up on social media and certainly let me know we also had a contract extension get signed between the last time. I talked to you guys on thursday chicago white sox lance lynn agreed to a two year. Thirty eight million dollar extension with the white sox and i was surprised about this one. I mean lance. Lynn was going to be a free agent. He was just named an all-star he's got a one point nine nine era in the american league. Which is absolutely fantastic. And this guy was going to get paid in free agency. I mean he's been able to do in chicago where he did down there in texas for a really bad ballclub. This guy was going to get paid now. Was he gonna get forty million. Trevor bauer. i don't know. But i'm certainly thinking thirty. A year would have been possible on the open market so for him to get to years in thirty eight million essentially nineteen per year over the next two years or a breaks down to eighteen and a half for each of the next two seasons with a one million dollar buyout..
