"Wanted. Nelson. Katie. Okay, Leigh Matthews. So we're all now very, very aware of what happened today in our nation's capital. We were lucky enough to have our own Eunice Corey there on site when the whole thing happened. Eunice Cory is the host of well preserved Also CEO of the well preserved insurance group here in Oklahoma City. You can hear her program Saturday mornings at nine. Right here on news radio 1000. Therefore, well, um I am a Trump supporter, so and we all are concerned as Americans about the integrity of the last election. I mean, there's too many things that are coming up where there were more people that voted in Pennsylvania that we're actually registered, and I think the contingency from Pennsylvania today once their state Legislature to recount the votes there So Americans are concerned and we do not want to lose our freedom. So you were there with other people to support Trump and support him in his efforts to try to make to see about some justice being done. Right. The main thing that was talked about today and I will say there will be between 600,000. Maybe a million people they had more today. And they had it the Glenn back event that I went to about 10 years ago. That was, you know, Katie. Okay. And that was when Reed Mullins You know, the group followed out there, the main comment. With people that I talked to today, over turn that this election has been stolen and they want answers. They just want Congress to do their job. And they're a little bit ticked that Congress did the stimulus bill Ah, couple of weeks ago. Weren't mad that Congress allotted $600 yippee. They were furious that Congress appropriated the amount of money they did to other countries. Mm hmm. And that was a ton of money. And if we can't balance our budget, how in the heck can we send billions overseas? Compute. You must have seen. Well, You must have seen lots of people there. And I know you probably spent a lot of time talking to people Tell us a little about the people you talked with and and their attitudes. I talked to two gentlemen from Oregon today, and they were quite interesting. One went to the national playoffs at Louisiana secure from Louisiana. So I thought it was from l A few and I struck up a conversation. And he said, I drove past and miles to show my Children. My grandchildren. I want to leave them of legacy. They drove from Portland, Oregon. That's a hall. 4000 Miles is several days in the car Best buddy, which means I got turned around and go back and they were quite interesting, but they made some good comments, he said. I'm 74 years old. This. What they're doing to America is unacceptable. Unacceptable and out of the people I talked to today, Lee Nobody. Said four letter words in front of me. Nobody and I didn't tell him who I was or anything. I'm just a curious lady looking like I'm wrapped up in the woods. They laugh and say, I got comments on my coat because I look like I'm the queen. I look like I am wrapped up in a sleeping bag. But it was 45 degrees today in DC, and its class..

You just don't wanna stop in the middle and this is one of those stories so today we are going to break with the schmaltzy podcast tradition and listened to loses entire story before she joins us in the studio. Here's liz from the schmaltzy stage at the new york city wine and food festival where she shared a very personal story about loss living in the moment and resilience so about twenty years ago my catering business was really starting to take off and it was such an exciting time. We had just moved into a great facility in hudson square. And we're getting to expand within that footprint. We had signed the contract with ian schrager and we were operating the hudson hotels so we were really cool. And every day was a combination of meet with customers and clients and internal planning and of course events and all. This was really great. But for the fact that i also had for young children at home under the age of ten and my husband constantly worked laid and when he was working late he was traveling so as you can imagine it was really hard to find balance in my life trying to juggle work and home so i realized really early on that the key to my success both privately personally and professionally was secretive schedule and a routine and stick to it now. I knew about planning. Because i was from the event world where everything has a plan and a timeline and you stick to it no deviation i had waited a really long time to become apparent and i did not want to be an absentee mom. So most days. I took my children to school race downtown. Flew home at the end of the day in order to join them right at dinner time and then we would do baths and story time. And that was the routine heels off sweatpants on and after they went to sleep i would of course get back online and get back to work and try to finish up. Whatever i'd started that day and sometimes they even out to parties so one winter nights started out like most accept this night. I had a really big presentation to finish a deadline for client. So i got home with the baths and the ready for story time. I'm kind of thinking. Let's get this done. So i can get back to work and nelson katie. My nine and eight year old daughters were in their room. They were playing and chatting and wait information. Finish up with the little too and get to them. Sam who was eight and sylvia. San was five and sylvia. The baby three had picked out. One of their favorite books called a story felina in the book. Lena's grandma shares a family fable about apple strudel. So how can i describe what happens next. You know the book if you give a mouse a cookie thing well talking about apple strudel. We started thinking about apples. And talking about apple's of course led directly to apple sauce and the mention of applesauce little sylvia's green eyes lit up and she looks at me and she says why. Don't we make lockers right now and we can eat them with applesauce. Okay so let me tell you about lakas in my family. It's not a special event food. It is not just for. It's kind of like peanut butter and jelly. But it's not because peanut butter and jelly is really quick. Lakas is all the ingredients and it makes a mess and you need a lot of time and then you gotta clean up. And i'm thinking. I gotta get back to work. And she's looking at me like and then sam starts in Grew up to become his high school debating team champion so he tells me they're hungry. Says mom will do it really quickly. And we're going to help clean up and you know what tomorrow night. We will skip stories and we will go a bit early and you know what were starving and sylvia's just egging him on and looking.

"Give, we always have a situation of supply and demand that my man the government has made a big thing. As James just taught shown on hammers is expanded its testing pass t and it has I think there is a positive thing to be found in that. Back in the days when we're looking at handcocks target a few. Summons to meet exact. But I think the point is it did succeed in Germany speaking expanding testing DEVASTA-. But now I think the point is that it doesn't seem as that everyone is having easy access and there are problems coming up and that that Hancock's point was not that people are having a coffin in shouldn't be task, but he was saying that people are dating. Pool Own holiday as tour and social media. One Jenna saying that had a wedding someone had they said to everyone please get a test before you come to a wedding. Now, this is anecdotes in his day, but I, think that's what they're trying to get as James as it does risk backfiring I think that given that we're in September but it feels were currently hearing. Third or into the autumn and approaching winter is obviously very important. The government does keep increasing testing capacity going. I think another thing that's quite interesting game at that press conference was Boris Johnson. was talking about this idea of a new way of testing. So this millions of task today is GonNa Pirate insulted. If you tested negative on the morning, go to work you behave normally and things. There's obviously other things are looking at in terms of how you used what you can get to but I think that. Right now, there's an old story and She being t kind there plenty of stories people not being able to get test where they want to I. think that's getting us if cases keep going up every time when people are going to have cost for winter associated codes and the prime. Minister's responsive. Pm Keys Davis suggests that you kissed wasn't being support of enough now I think there is still a sense he's speech postage. The government has a difficult task, but I think the longer it goes on the harder is to say every time you know you, you need to be kind to us me only to at together. So I think that if that's the case in in six weeks time is gonNA. Even worse for the government are in there is a big difference between now and March of in March April may the public genuine had very mature acceptance actually this was a new unknown disease and your who could seen these problems coming not a problems in the government's pandemic plan, which is government had inherited had. Lower floors in it because it was designed to deal with pandemic flu rather than Saws Stall Disease like this one is in the public was there because Katie says, now, the public expect the government to have got ready for much more of this stuff and before public patients will be shorter this winter and it was this break. Thank you James Thank you Katie and thank you for listening and Vancouver got the second episode of Spectator. TV is on tomorrow back with Andrew Neil Fraser Nelson. Katie. Balls and Jane's life. "Live together for the first time right here on the last word next. I can't wait. Airline companies and airline execs did not get the bailout that they wanted from the American taxpayer in the historic two trillion dollar relief relief legislation. The congress just passed the airlines. Got The version of assistance that Sarah Nelson wanted them to get. Sarah Nelson is the head of the flight attendants union and she may be the most effective Labour leader working the halls of Congress today because Sara Nelson Helped Guide Democrats in the House representatives in the Senate to deliver aid to the airlines. So that the airlines could continue to keep their personnel on the payroll past the money straight through the airlines to the workers and so the flood of applications for unemployment benefits does not now include the airline personnel who Sarah Nelson Represents Carson Katie Porter saucer Nelson inaction and decided the Nelson plan should be the plan to cover workers in other fields and so Sarah Nelson Katie. Puerto have teamed up and are now trying to save the paychecks for millions. More Americans and joining us now. Is that dynamic duo? The most formidable pair of guests I have ever introduced on this program at the same time cars he gave Boorda. Who represents the forty fifth congressional district in California are former Republican district? Katie Puerta turned blue in the last election. And Sara Nelson is the president of the Association of Flight Attendants Carson Porter. What drew you to the Nelson Plan. I love that you're calling it. The Nelson Plan really is a plan comes from Sarah's advocacy for airline workers and so having survived and watched what happened with tarp bailout of Wall Street in after the economic crisis in two thousand eight and two thousand nine. I knew how angry American we're we're going to be when they got. The short end of the stick at big corporations got sweetheart deals and what I saw in the cares act was that legislation was written very very quickly. It was it was good. It was a it was a sweetheart. Y'All for corporations and then all of a sudden these amazing workers centered provisions. Came into the care for the airline industry and that was the result of Sarah amplifying those voices and House Democrats and Senate Democrats standing up for workers and putting them. I in this current virus relief package well as Washington tradition. Has it a when you come up with a plan? It gets named after you. And that's why I've been calling it the Nelson Plan and then he veteran of legislative process in Washington. Knows when it's a big bill and it's last minute and it's rushed all sorts of bad things happen and Sarah. I have to tell you when I was working there. In the Senate Finance Committee I saw labor leaders including President Bay fell CIO Russian. There at the last minute and it was too late the Corporate America just steamrolled them and so I am kind of all of what you are able to accomplish their how you think it can be translated out into other fields well Lawrence. I want to be really clear. That what we did here was revolutionary. But it's also really simple and we need simple plans in the middle of a crisis and so these payroll grants are intended to go out. They were intended to go out on Monday. Secretary Mnuchin still has not put them out and actually Reuters released a list of questions for the airlines are getting today in order to apply for these grants fifteen questions long one of them is about payroll or of them or about their frequent flyer miles the the people who are the investment bankers in there helping Secretary Mnuchin. And so. That's why we need. The Congressional Oversight Commission established right away to make sure the Secretary Mnuchin is implementing this the way Congress intended and also that this can be applied as a plan to all Americans so that we can keep the paychecks going T- people in their jobs connected to their healthcare and ready to lift our economy off again on the other side of this threat occurs when porter. We have some bad news so far with the president trump. Basically firing one of the inspectors general. Who's supposed to be overseeing this kind of legislation? Basically the benefits of this legislation is not the only person involved in that oversight but it certainly is a setback at the very beginning for that process. I think it's an opportunity. It's an opportunity for the Congressional Oversight Commission to step up quickly and it makes the work that commission has been tasked with doing mackerras. Act All the more important. So what the trump administration basically said is because the expected general is an administration official on his part of the executive branch. We can't ignore that person. We can fire that person. Well those arguments do not apply to congressional oversight and so that's why I'm so interested in the Congressional Oversight Commission and making sure that it gets stood up quickly as Sarah said we need to get these paycheck protection out to these air aviation sector workers immediately a need to be taking that model and applying it to every single industry. That's looking for help. It's a replicable model. That will put workers I e on make should these dollars are being used to help our overall main street economy. Sarah what does it feel like to have a Katy Nelson Katie quarter on your side Katy Nelson it might just blur into that at some point with the three of you. What does it feel like to have? Katy Puerto on your side because I remember the first time I saw cars win. Puerto asking questions in one of her first congressional hearings and I was just stunned by what I was watching. Just kind of a brilliant approach to I'd never seen before and so she's a pretty unique allied to have in the halls of Congress. These I do have to tell you that I feel like I'm at the Justice League right now and when Katie call when Katy called out of the blue by the way no warning at all just called instead we gotta get going on this than I love your plan. Let's apply it to the rest of America. So let's work on this together What I think that the rest of the American public needs to know is that this is a simple plan to keep people in their jobs and never before. Has it been focused on individual Americans when we bail out in the middle of a crisis this is for the workers first and through the Congressional Oversight Committee that I hope Katie Porter is going to be on We can make sure that we are holding Secretary Mnuchin accountable to these principles that are in the aviation portion of the bill and can be applied in four hundred and sixty almost a half trillion dollars allocated to the rest of America to get people help right away and so the American public should know that that help is coming. All you have to do is call for it all right. I'm watching my clock here. Here's love to do. I'd like to squeeze in one more. Commercial Break Sara Nelson. I would like to just let you go off into your evening because I have some politics. I'd like to talk with Congressman Porter after this break. She's endorsed Elizabeth. Warren in the presidential campaign. I WANNA find out if she's ready to make a change in that endorsement and maybe some little questionnaire to about the vice presidential nomination Carson Porta. Can you stay for that now that you know what's coming okay? Great thank you very much for joining US Sarah. We really appreciate it thank you. We'll be right back and we're back with Carson Katie Puerto Carson. I hope you follow Sarah Silverman on twitter. Because she issued a very important tweet today Sarah Silverman of course endorsed Bernie Sanders. Four years ago endorsed Bernie Sanders again. This year loyal Bernie Sanders supporter. But now the Bernie Sanders has dropped out. She tweeted her short list for Joe. Biden's possible choice of vice presidential nominee and there. It is up on the screen. Alexandra Causing Cortez. Stacey Abrams and Katie Porter. So now that you're on the short list for Vice President of and you're an endorser of Senator Elizabeth Warren Bernie. Sanders dropped out today. Are you ready to make an endorsement or changer endorsement? I'm absolutely ready to endorse Joe Biden today and delighted to do so. I'm really honored that. He's embraced a lot of what Elizabeth Warren made as key platforms of her campaign particularly his commitment to fighting money in politics. This is someone who is early. Nineteen seventy-three was calling to get private money in dark money out of politics and so I'm honored to endorsing tonight on your show and really looking forward to continuing to hear his voice During this very scary time for our country I think it's incredibly important for the American people to have examples of what leadership looks like right now when effective honest trusted leadership looks like. And that's what Joe Biden is and do your kids have the right outfits ready to go when they have to go out on the stage of the Democratic convention a when you're announced as the vice presidential nominee if there's a convention then is the farthest thing from my mind. Honestly I get up. Every day was so many projects in so many ideas I've been really focusing on the pandemic. Obviously pushing hard to make sure that we have testing and treatment that's available to people regardless of insurance working on all of the accountability issues with Secretary Mnuchin very concerned to make sure Bail out to big corporations and they've been doing so much important listening to the voices of my community been doing calls with constituents hearing about their challenges their successes in navigating things like distance learning in our public schools. Esta assistance program. So I have been incredibly busy. I get out of bed every day with a million things on my mind but I've gotTA confess. That has not been one of them now. You've issued a report about what you found. The administration is doing in terms of misallocating medical resources. Absolutely so I think I one of the things I really pride myself on as a teacher was never walking into a classroom without being prepared. I try to approach this job serving the American public in the same way doing my homework and with my terrific staff. We located public data. That shows that during those critical months of January and February when our country needed to be increasing its supply of mass of ventilators of gowns fact. Our exports went up by over one thousand percent of mouse during that period and our imports. A things like hand sanitizer in mass ventilators fell by eleven percent We also looked at the government contracting data. So we all out of questions about. Where is the supply? Where is this equipment? And what we learned is that the government's contracts for this people will not arrive until September or October. Long after we're hopefully through the worst of this Carlin Katie. Porter gets tonight's last word. Thank you very much for joining us again tonight..
