I think they need to address earliest. Look to address and that Slot receiver if they can find one a speedy slot receiver Somebody who can catch the ball and get open quickly and give jones something quickly because you know one thing that is starting to get on my nerves in happen again today. Like on hunter. When mack jones hit hunter henry in the legs today This is now the second straight week. I think it's second. The other one was jacoby. Myers play might have been last week or the week before. But here's mack jones under pressure free runners. And one time. I was jacoby meyers. This time was hunter. Henry were. These guys are going out in their past pattern. Like they're they're playing street ball football where they're like they're setting up their move and then the do and head fakes and things like that. Meanwhile mack jones is about to get his head ripped off like can somebody get into their route quickly and get open instead of you know trying to to act their way you know. Pass the cornerback in and so that's starting to get on my nerves look. They don't have speedy slot receiver they just don't and we know how important that is in this offense. That's something i would be looking for any isabella from. Umass with the cardinals. He i don't think he's played one. Snap on offense this year with the cardinals. He's behind the rookie. Rondell more is never gonna play. There might be cheap He was a pretty high draft. Pick though so that would be one guy. I would look at And to me if you can find some sort of professional cornerback to add to the mix. That's fine but here's the thing guys. If they add cornerback we already know how bad the stefan gilmore trade looks already in the whole situation for the past year would stuff on That led to that. I mean they can't go and trade for cornerback and give up more than what they got the six round pick and so what are we talking about here. So i don't really i tackle. They're not gonna find a tackle. They have like eight billion on the roster. They gotta figure it out and and outside of that I think they're good. Were they are. I don't want sean jackson. He's redundant to nelson galore. I don't want anything like that The patriots could have signed sean jackson for cheaper than nelson anglo. They picked aguilar. It's only halfway through the season. They're still figuring things out so to me slot receiver. A cornerback would be on my list. Would they give up any capital And i'll just draw a name. Mac jones immensely but i think the patriots made their decision in terms of that one and decided to go with two tight ends. I think have hunter. Henry wasn't available after they signed. Johnny smith maybe they would have gone that route maybe they would have added another receiver. But they're paying both those guys twelve and a half million dollars. Go ahead matt so I was thinking can usually be asking like where the play was in a game disclosing tough like silly as it sounds i gotta ask what is the lack of trick plays especially you know in mac with struggling like mean about our offense and seriously like why do we run these plays against the jets and the like and not against the bolts that we need just to kind of figure out took place. I can't get any. Thanks man. Greg good question matt i think a couple things are play I think you know when you do call some trick. Plays you look at the opponent. You think there's a have a high level of comfort that they're going to be successful. And i think when you look at the jets you don't see many guys who are going to blow up place whereas with the chargers from bosa too you know because you're white at linebacker you might not be the greatest run linebacker but the dude can fly derwin james those type of guys. You look at guys like if we're not on point it could get really ugly so i think i think that a lot of confidence doing jets it puts it on film for other teams to think about at least prepare a little bit more. I think that was part of it. And i think the reason why they didn't do any of that tonight against the chargers was because i think the patriots realized they push the chargers around a little bit more that they that they could out physical them and be mentally tougher and i think the the end result really proved them right on that that front all right. And if they do i think all three of those guys to be pretty productive consistent players enough if are yeah i didn't i didn't i didn't write mag jones down for some reason why but He looked impressive. "Here on the gs mc fantasy football podcast for the second segment of today's show. We're gonna now recap the four o'clock games and the sunday night football game so these games i think we kind of crammed in every single game towards the end because there were a lot of games to talk about so i don't think we're going to have to worry about that as much when we're talking about the four o'clock games in the sunday night game and obviously we do the monday night preview at the end of the show Dedicate a whole segment to that. So let's get right into the four o'clock game so let's start off with the patriots and the dolphin so to a tunga vilo whip honestly didn't play that bad. Two hundred two yards one touchdown one interception and he finished with sixteen point. One eight points jalen waddled sixteen point one miles gaskin twelve point six and then on the other side nelson galore eighteen point two mac jones fifteen point two four and james white twelve point one so the dolphins i mean they really did not play that bad offensively in this game. Wada was obviously their best player. Indefinitely is going to be a how waiver wire pickup if he is available to you way he played and this is a good patriots. Defense and waddled definitely balled out in this game and devante. Parker also had a decent game for receptions. Eighty one yards mile- miles gaskin was involved in the passing game as well mike. Sickie did absolutely nothing. And honestly that's no surprise to me. This guy is such an inconsistent fantasy tied and. I don't think he's the guy that you should start in your lineup. You know unless you're super desperate. This guy is so boomer. Boston tight end. And maybe it's because i'm better because of what. He did last year to me where he had goose egg in one game. Against the jets. The guy is so inconsistent. And he's a guy that. I don't think you should starring your lineup every single week. I really don't but to definitely showed you. Something was more confident. Also at a rushing touchdown in this game he was more confident in this game. And i think that is something that a lot of people should keep in mind moving forward because against the patriots with the full capacity stadium. Really thought to was gonna falter and he was not going to have a good game and he did pretty well. I mean he didn't light up the scoreboard but he played good enough. And you know what i think. He's definitely a guy that you know can be a reliable backup on your team because you know what they have a lot of weapons and this is with our fuller willful or not playing this game because he still you know suspended and he's only gonna only gonna miss the game against the patriots now he's gonna play the rest of the year and obviously he is injury prone. So that's something to worry about. But you know what they got him. They got devante. Parker is shaky and waddell and gaskin. I mean they got they got some weapons there and it's going to be hard for two and not to succeed but played a pretty good game and you know what i expect him moving forward to continue to develop and play even better than that hopefully so now you look at the patriots i mack. Jones did pretty well. Twenty nine to thirty nine. Two hundred eighty one yards and a touchdown damian harris on the ground twenty rushes for hundred yards. James white four for twelve and johnny rauch brand bold stevenson. They rushed to but stevenson really. Didn't play roka's. He had a fumble early on. And then damian. Harris patriots are driving to go ahead and damian harris fumbles and that that was the game for the patriots and then receiving wise james white six receptions forty nine yards nelson galore by reception seventy two yards and the touchdown definitely a guy that can be flex option. Mack jones is targeting him a lot and he was making plays. Jacoby myers making plays john who was making plays. Aren't there. henrietta. Couple of receptions kendrick born really didn't do much but the one reception he had. It was a nice little play that he had their damian. Harris was involved a little bit in the passing game. Stevenson had a reception. I think moving forward Like i said i think nelson adler can be a flex option Again depending on the match up but you know he was getting targeted a decent amount. And i definitely think moving forward. He's probably the number one wide receiver for the patriots. Damian harris i think is going to be a guy that is going to get the bulk of the carries. Now i know. He fumbled at the end. But i think he is the best running back on this team. And james white is only going to be using the passing game. You had stevenson. Who fumbled and that's going to happen during the game if guy fumbles he's to get taken out and you know another guy's gonna get more opportunities i don't think. Jj tailored did nothing today. So think it's really going to be damian harris moving forward. And if that's the case. I mean i'm expecting him to have monster games. Now i'll go into my running back situation a little bit later. But i did end up. Starting damian harris over the andrea swift today and i definitely regretted that Which i will get into. I will go into more depth with that. But i think aiming harasses a guy that you know can be a good flex option can be a solid rb to but you know at times definitely struggled to run the football and you know got a touchdown called back which you know really hurt his production in that game. But you know what i think. He was pretty overall outside of the fumble. And i think moving forward. He'll be good for your team if you haven't as an rb two or if you put him as flex option i think you'll be productive at so before we get to the best game of the four o'clock games. Let's get through the bad ones. So let's start off with the giants. So top performers. For the broncos twenty point a fantasy points for the bra of sorry for melvin gordon twenty point four six for teddy bridgewater temperature. Thirteen point nine. On the other side of the giants. Twenty four point three points for sterling shepherd had a really great game daniel jones twenty one point three eight fancy points decent performance and then kenny golladay ten point four. The broncos won this game twenty seven. Thirteen giants did not play well in this game. Offensively saquon barkley awful ten rushes for twenty six yards and then is definitely something to be very concerned about moving forward if you have barclay on your team. This is a guy that i did not want to touch any my fantasy leagues. I do have him in one. But it was a four man league. And i have a ton of running backs. Jonathan taylor aaron jones and in cook. So i don't need to start saquon okay but if you have saquon on your team you should be very concerned because this giants offensive line is not good and saquon. I just he did nothing. He did nothing in this game..

It's a repeat of the season opener last year for both teams And that was really fun game because we didn't know what the patriots offense is gonna look like with new quarterbacks and seen in twenty years And it was cam. New in right was completely different. Place out really different archetype to what we're accustomed to with those brady offenses and so they walk out to face a brian floor as defense in a blind for us. Miami dolphins does hopefully improved but they just had a lot up their sleeve. That miami didn't really know about yeah. Goes back to what we talked about. Kaelin with like spags read trying to hold their best pitches for late walked out. They ran the ball fifteen times with new. I seventy five yards two touchdowns. Mary legal walk in touchdown where he had a keep on on like legit motion play. Miami was just nowhere near. They did not know how much the patriots are going to rely on new in the low red zone to be their goal line runner. That newness is back is the patriots. Have a new quarterback. He's not cam it's mac and we're back to kind've this pocket pass in archetype and this we're gonna try to death by thousand paper cuts you a little bit and that that's one of the interesting things to see. We saw in the preseason that mack jones rookie pass out of alabama is now starter for the patriots was comfortable living in empty. Right five receivers out you know putting the running back into the concepts only five minute pass protection. He was comfortable taking what the defense gave him. Quick release raise always had really good feet in the pocket. one step drop three step drop. He was comfortable doing all that. When he was most successful in alabama it was play pass. it was action hard. Sell play action pulling guards doing everything we can to get two or three of our really good alabama receivers deep into this route concept hits explosive plays and that's where the patriots offense was really lacking last year was in the explosive passing game. So number one is again has to deal with the fact that he doesn't know what this is gonna like. I don't think it's going to be brady copy paste. Josh mcdaniels. spread 'em in shrem. Option routes horizontal stretch. I think we're gonna see that under center deep play action. those those hard sell play. action looks at alabama. Those are really tough defense. That is a tough ask for a team. That definitely has played aspirations this year. This is going to be one on early. Downs writing that like if my new england cannot run the ball. I really think it's going to be a bad debut. For mac if he has to be in third and long all day if he has to live in third along the looks flora's going to throw at him right just disgusting and like if they want mac to sit in empty as kind of doing it in the preseason on passing downs. I was going to bring up in like mac his weaknesses or conscious. You know similar to goff's in terms of movement and reacting to pressure like that I remember there. Was this one clip. None of them are have their hand in the ground. Just all moving around. And i think the purpose of of that was scared. The shit out of golf and we're going to do the same thing worried. He's never seen anything like this. They better be able to run the ball. And that's i mean. I'm obviously a cam. Newton guy. I wanted to see him play. Oh no but that was the reason why i thought cam would be. They would make him the starter. This year is because they knew they had to run the ball. Just based on how team is built in the wide receiving core in the offensive line is.

"Right. So only in twenty twenty one with this be considered against the grain. But i picked the patriots to win the afc's maybe it is getting caught up. In the recent mack jones hype and the rookies strong preseason and him winning the job or maybe it's the fact that this is the real start of the post. Tom brady era and new england. Or maybe i just think that we're all a little too down on the patriots after one loan down season and i don't really want to bet against their resurgence this year so i picked them to win the division. It'll be an interesting division this year. A lot of young quarterbacks to attack the law and miami josh allen in buffalo is suddenly the elder statesman you know. Obviously the jets have jack. Zach wilson so lots could be up in the air this but i can just imagine a situation in which mac jones was trained for this opportunity by bill checks. Best friend and coaching. He knows exactly what to do. And there were a lot of games last season where the patriots just had to do a little bit more. And that was with a league high number of opt-outs for cova nineteen and that was with a lot of positions being patched together. They went on a free agency spending spree. All of these things are uncharacteristic because they had to do things differently in the post. Tom brady era. The patriots had to take a different tack. They couldn't do team building the same way. They've always done it so those things don't always work out. Rarely do we see a free agency spending spree workout and it is hard for a rookie quarterback to come in and immediately make an impact. But i am not going to bet against that happening boy. I'll i'll see one thing and it had a while ago. So we don't have to rehash the whole Cam newton getting cut stuff. But i don't know. I was just so excited to see like a full-on like cam newton. Eleven man running game. It just seemed like that's how they were building it as i tried to again justify my incorrect thoughts from like three weeks ago. It just seems like when you signed kendrick born you're not signing kendrick born to be like one hundred catch guy like the new welker is. You're signing him. He's a little things guy who is going to help you out on perimeter blocking and stuff like that. But it's just it's it's an interesting fit year jones because they are not very good on the outside and i don't does that matter ultimately nelson galore is probably. You're only starting caliber. Receiver this point. I don't think it matters. The patriots haven't been good on the outside. Generally right. I mean obviously when they had randy moss but that was a brief period of time i think they bring in players that fit a specific function in their offense and i think it's probably true that we don't know exactly what specific function. All of these pieces will fit. But they don't ever sign anybody or draft anybody without some plan not saying that it works out. Obviously they have had a lot of draft. Mrs in recent years and thus they needed to spend in free agency. But it's when they chose. Mac drills is a starting quarterback they obviously had a plan for an offense..

"Get some booty. Scooting i have no rosie out on the fan. You know fantasy roses. You were telling us a quote that knew that. Neither jason or i had heard about from cam newton. Yeah there i mean. There was some video that came out. He was chilling in the back of a car. Talking about getting right physically in how when he threw it. He threw an interception in carolina on the one yard. Line chase down. The well tried to make the tax. I don't think he did ended up hurting his shoulder and he basically said from that point on. He's had a problem with that shoulder. We know about the shoulder issues. we know about the throwing motion. We know ugly. it's been. He claims that he couldn't lead with a shoulder on any rushing attempts. Where obviously last year. He still scored twelve rushing touchdowns but he only averaged one hundred seventy seven passing yards a game and i don't know how long the rope is like. I don't know how much narrative street to read into that. Obviously the confidence level of bill. Belichick and cam. Newton extends to the fifteenth. Pick in the draft. Right like it's not enough to to go used. Add on another key component to your team. You need to go out there and you reinforcer horror bathroom long-term but yeah. I mean it's really hard because there's so many times in these quarterback starts to take the walk off the cliff production-wise and we want to believe that they can get it back right but carolina didn't believe he had it or was going to get it back geniuses. Right now yeah. Last year's play on the field doesn't look like he's got we're going to get it back so as a fantasy player i sure as heck. I'm not going to bet my team on him. Getting it back that being said i mean is. He has an undrafted quarterback and he was like for the first half of the season meet. He was very a very starting quarterback. Yeah when you run the football on the goal line not only do you delete the value of the running backs in that room but you put yourself in a position. I mean yeah. The first you know ten weeks of the year seventeen game pace he would have been. You know. Seven hundred yards rushing and nineteen rushing touchdowns. So that's asinine like that's not correct necessarily noble. But that shows you. He was still valuable because of that but he looked really really bad in the passing game. And it's a matter of. Can this team win that way. If you're winning games nobody cares right. You're not gonna care of cam. Newton's two hundred yard passer if you're winning ball games but if you aren't are you going to get mack jones. How will that. Impact hunter henry. Johnny smith and company and is there any diamonds in the rough here in terms of fantasy value. I don't. I don't think there are pass catching diamonds in the rough here either way. You have a rookie mack. jones With a good defense. Good coach. That i think is going to really try to gay. Manage this team to wins Or you have cam. Newton not throwing the ball a ton. So when it comes to nelson agholor who maybe he would be the pick it could be jakobi meyers It could be hunter. Henry or jonnu smith The there's no there's no telling who it's going to be and then what you're going to get from. A small projected. Passing yardage team is not something. I wanna play around with at all. The running game is the big curiosity Like you said cam newton's gonna volker the touchdowns on the goal line but if the change happens to mack jones. Now you're probably going to get more opportunities for touchdowns Probably about the same amount of dump offs if you want to look at. What may justin herbert great as a rookie quarterback compared to what could be installed from jones is you had a bad offensive line in los angeles. You had a defense. That couldn't stop anybody and you had to lean on him. This is not a situation where you came. And alan and mike williams and yeah and and in this situation you have a great offensive line. You have a rush. I type of team great defense. So you may try to put him in a position where you're not risking too much I will say till you're jakobi meyers. Point if you're looking at a basketball flyer late round flyer out of boston tom. Curran said he'd put his cash on. Jakobi meyers being the most reliable and productive receiver. Jakobi meyers once. He became an actual starter for this team. Which was week seven. He was averaging five receptions and sixty five yards again he simply did not score ever ever and that. Which was the patriot model last you. Yeah well no so scored rushing touchdowns but cam. Newton was on a no passing touchdown for the majority of the year but twenty seven points per game though that was five for sixty five is not nothing and week. Seven on ninety for eleven fifteen was the pace. Yeah exactly seventy and again. Let me let me illustrate no touchdowns yes and that. That's why no one of not not specifically the only reason i mean nelson galore and all these free agents coming in. That is scary. For if you're going to try and draft jakobi meyers but okay but simply pointing out that the guy had a lot of production. Let me just have fantasy points. Let me put you on the spot here because you you. You not excited about miami. You're you're not excited about new england correct so if you had to bet on one of these teams making week or you're betting on miami for fantasy purposes yes. I'm betting on miami. Yes i think that they have The potential they want to air it out. They wanna be a high volume high powered offense. I think the patriots love their defense. They go out and they signed to tight ends.
