"Mets story them trading for Francisco Lean Door and Carlos Carrasco. So I wanted to get some more get a little bit more in depth on what it means. And Nelson Figueroa does the amazing but true podcast after pitching for what a decade In the game itself. So I thought that we could talk with him about this for a few minutes. He joins us now on CBS Sports Radio Nelson. Thanks for joining me this morning. I appreciate it. My brother Lawrence. How you doing? I'm doing all right. I I know that. Considering your background. I'd love to know if you were pitching against Francisco. Lean door. How much fear would he striking you and what would you try to do against him? What's funny about him is it's not the size of Of him that scares you. It's not the okay who else is in the lineup kind of thing because for clean in Cleveland, even for years He wasn't really the guy you always feared with the bigger type hitters, the guys who had more powerful swing, but he's such a dynamic player that it's kind of like a Jose Reyes. David Wright all built in tow one. And I think that's the thing that you get in a door. That is so unique. You get the speed, you get the power. You have the excitement. You get a guy who can Steal, bases the defense of the middle that you know, we haven't seen in quite some time. It's the total package and this isn't you know, just overhyping someone I think in New York, you know, we had a men Rosario, and as soon as he came into the league at 22 years old You know they were comparing him till indoor. That was the very first comparison that you heard and we never saw that. It's not easy to live up to, but indoor had done when you're only being 27 now. Has done it every year on year in and year out. You're looking at a perennial All Star Andre guy who's still coming into his own who's still learning and growing. And I think in New York he was really gonna have a chance to flourish and It's not that in Cleveland, he wasn't on the map. It's a much different map when you get to New York, and I think the bright lights we're gonna really help him shine for sure in look, this benefits the Mets. You do a Mets podcast You played for the Mets, but I do wonder as a player. Does it bother you that we're seeing whether it's Mookie Betts and there's talk of Kris Bryant being traded Francis Colin Door being traded? Does it bother you that all the time ownership would talk about? Hey, we want guys to retire in our jersey and then you get these guys. They're getting close to their big paydays and teams are like, no, We'll just trade this guy will start over. Yeah, it's the new baseball. It's no longer Moneyball era are trying to even keep those core four like the Yankees did for 20 years. It's no longer that kind of baseball with the economics of baseball. I think one of the biggest changes has been And you're leasing. With an option to buy right and so you get to the end of the least. And yes, this has been a nice play on. In fact, this is more than I even bargained for. But how much do I have to pay to buy out the lease? Oh, no, no, no, That's way too rich for my blood because I have a young player who could be as good in five years. And I get to pay him the minimum. So I think that's what the economics of baseball has changed. There's been there's been an influx of you have these business minded owners who are being told Um, I always equated to if someone said to an owner Hey, You like apple apples? A great stock? Well, Apple will never be higher than it is today. Do you want to buy 200 million of it, and it's only going to go downward. They would say no in a heartbeat. But if you said to them, man, how much do you love? Bryce Harper is a great player. Yeah, I want him on my team, but he's not gonna be as good as he Wasps. Ever again. You are you still in? And there's much more trepidation from owners because they're realizing that if you treat these players as products and as Objects of production. Then that's the way the new baseball has toe work, especially for a team that small market teams. It's almost impossible for them to keep those stars and go toe. What the, uh what their g to deal with the Marlins just a few years ago. Traded away two MVPs. For all stars. And he got back a whole bunch of talent and nobody knew what was gonna happen. Look, I know it was a colder too, but they made the playoffs. I had a teams like the defending champion Nationals and the Mets. So the new baseball is definitely a different breed. Um, Andre, it's discouraging for the player because you do want to have that. Comfort of playing somewhere for a long time, but in the business of baseball You change those jerseys and you changed cities. You know, if you hope that the fan base support you the same way, But again, you have to go wherever they're gonna pay you. You're not in charge that as a player anymore. That being said it feels like Nelson that that Steve Cohen is putting the rest of him. It'll be on notice like he's got that cash, and he's about to spend that cash. Well, that's what we're hoping that that would make them indoor trade. Probably the all time best trade in Mets history, you know, second right now on Lee Toe to the Mike Piazza deal. It's very similar where they traded for PR, so they gave up their three top two of their top prospects and their top young prospect who was already in the major league level of Preston Wilson. And they did that trade not knowing if Piazza would sign back. He was the best offensive catcher in the game and company by every single team, and they felt like if he just played in New York. And the fans were able to treat him the way that a superstar should be treated. And if he felt comfortable enough, they could make a good enough offer. He would be here for a long, long time. And of course, we made him the highest paid catcher. And again at the time, and the biggest contractor in New York met, you know, and hitting that history at the time, So it worked out now, when you look at Mookie Betts his deal and that's what everybody keeps talking about. Now. That's the new benchmark. So Lindores gonna have to get that? I don't believe that's the case. I think he's going to become possibly the highest paid shortstop..

"The back end of the workweek. Welcome to the show on after hours. Dead dinner. That's where we are. We're sitting on it right now. The very pinnacle of the mountain that we climb to start every work we can get to this point. Middle of the hump show middle of the workweek. Thanks for joining us. After hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio, a couple of things for the upcoming Wednesday There are teams arriving in Orlando to get set to enter the MBA bubble, so that's happening over the next several days. The MLS is back tournament is actually scheduled to begin on Wednesday evening. There were supposed to be two games now one of them has been postponed. There have been delays in testing results. It's been really dramatic and the initial Thie initial start to this tournament has been a bit chaotic and so who knows whether or not they'll actually begin, But they are supposed to begin on Wednesday evening and one other piece of breaking news from Tuesday night. You may likely here on Wednesday morning that the Ryder Cup has been postponed until the same weekend in September next year. So ah, similar attack to what the Olympics have done there, just postponing a year. In fact, exactly 12 months, so the Ryder Cup was scheduled he played with selling Straits, Wisconsin on American soil, and there's been a lot of Ah lot of trepidation but also A lot of criticism about holding the Ryder Cup without fans on DSO. With so much uncertainty, we can expect the announcement to come on Wednesday that the Ryder Cup has also been pushed. Ah, year it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio, 855 to 124227 will get back to your phone calls. You can find me on Twitter after our CBS want to send your questions for asking me anything. That's how you do it. And also on our Facebook page. We're live from the rocket mortgage by quick and loan studios. If you want to see your load options, adjust your payments and you're closing costs. You can do it online in real time rockets. Can Couple hours ago, I had a chance to catch up with longtime baseball pitcher Nelson Figueroa, and he really made the rounds. He was the definition of a journeyman spent some time with the Mets is a Brooklyn native now on the other side doing analysis of Major League baseball and I was a good conversation, passionate conversation, and I'm excited to share it with you. I started out by asking him To describe the emotions of the players now and what is an uncertain season. It's shortened. It's not starting at the same time. There are virus concerns. So how are the players feeling right now? Well, I imagine they're going to be feeling a lot of butterflies and is going to be trepidation, of course about the health risks being tested so many times, you know, that's something that they probably weren't even thinking of doing, because if they were a symptomatic, and they felt healthy, and nobody around them in their in their bubble during quarantine was Anyone that they felt there was a risk then they probably didn't get tested. And now you see, they come into a spring training two point. Oh, and they're getting tested constantly, because Major League Baseball is going to do everything they can to protect the players. And I think Once you get through that element of its 2.5 more weeks of spring training 2.0, and then they get to start the season. It's going to be different. No fans in the stands playing in front of your opening day crowd of nobody. I mean, do they announce the lineups? Do they? You know all the fanfare that normally goes with it. That's all going to be gone and you know, they have to put on for the entertainment value, I guess for the viewer at home, but I think it's goingto get back to what everybody wants to do it as far as being a ballplayer and being a major league ballplayer. Get back to playing baseball and being out on the field and being there with your teammates and trying to get back to some kind of normalcy that you know we haven't had in the last four months. So I think the closer that we get to seeing games being played, the more excited these guys going to get. And then, of course, it's going to be a very short season. It's that Sprint, not a marathon, and I think every team's going to feel like they have a chance. So that at some point baseball takes over, and it's not as much about the virus. Not that it goes away. But But baseball becomes thie, most important thing or the thing that's most top of mind over the virus and everything else. That's that's happened to this point. Yeah, I think you're going to see is you know the back pages of the sports section, you know, finally seeing actual sports. That's going to be a huge thing that's going to be you know, when you get a chance to see the ground taking the hell and then the Subway Series matchup of the Graham and Cole, possibly that all those things and I think it's it's just Baseball has always had a way of capturing. You know, the summertime, The passion of the fans. They everyone was looking for something to root for, Andi, you know, with the negotiations. They took it on the chin a little bit, but I think they had to make sure that proper precautions will be taken there made the agreement they want to come back. They want to play and for the most part, you're seeing you here in most of these players saying, Hey, you know being tested. It is not, you know, something I enjoyed doing is being tested and finding out that I'm positive or somebody on my team is positive is a little scary, but I think Most people realizing as healthy athletes in their prime, that they are able to kind of overcome this virus and that they're the major league Baseball is going to do everything they can to help. Um every single team be able to get through any kind of situation and then playing baseball. Beautiful I want I cannot wait to see because of what I think is gonna happen is you're looking at a playoff push right from the beginning where you know the teams that were in rebuilding mode where you got that seem like the White Sox. What they have that mixture of young town and some veterans that they're going to be exciting. A team my Tampa Bay. I'm really I think I'm worried about the most, because I think they're the team that will try anything to win and they won 93 games, arm or the last two or three years in that division, so it'll be exciting to see what they come up with it. They went with a four man rotation. They might go to the three man rotation and just use you know 12 relievers. If they could, so that will be interesting to see how they play it out. Yeah, it certainly is completely different with strategies that could be sneaky. Good in a season. That's only 60 games. So Nelson, you mentioned negotiations. Let's talk about this for a second. Then we can put it to bed. What would you say to fans who are watching from the outside In the midst of what is an economic crisis and people losing their jobs and I took a pay cut. I would say the majority of America took a pay cut if they kept their jobs. What did you say? Though? Two people watching from the outside about the importance of the negotiations and how they played out. The negotiations weren't just based off of, you know being it wasn't about greed there taking a pay cut as well. Yes, there's a scale to it. All right, So you have to put it in perspective. At the same time. The union's job is to try and get the max dollars for the product on the field, which is the players. Nobody goes to the ball park to see the owners. Nobody there's not. There's no one. Even the owners. Wives don't go to the ball park to see the owner. They actually go to watch the game to watch the players on the field, so To think that it was going to be okay..

"I think this should have been handled behind closed doors more so their leaks have been terrible and I think that if possible you look into deferments the nationals owner has I think three of their major contracts I want to stay for at least set ten years after their playing in national uniforms they're going to be getting paid still and does he care about that he's ninety four years old I'm pretty sure he doesn't care about that when you use it when when what he's trying to do and what he was capable of doing was winning the World Series last year remember talking Nelson Figueroa former MLB pitcher co host of amazing but true podcast on CBS sports radio how much damage you think it's already been done with the fans or do you think this is something that they will get over when when baseball returns I I think this lesson fans of dealt with losing teams for a hundred years struggle cubs shout out to them exit they tell with losing teams for so many years and they still call themselves and they can understand that this might be grown up talk when it comes to the money and it comes a day but you have to remember that the CBA the collective bargaining agreement is up next year and that's got to be negotiated so this is in the beginning it seemed like it was just kind of a little stance on both sides to see you know where each side was but the owners have been pushing for a long time if you look at free agency and what they've done to free agency and when they talk about collusion or not colluding it's pretty obvious if you're giving the same players the same amount of money offered every single contract offer that you're putting out there but that's not that's just a circumstance that's such a habit that that's not just like oh my god what a coincidence to meet the owners have gotten smarter as far as the value of what the product is and now no longer wanting to pay a player for what he has done in the past when he goes to a new team that they've lost a lot of money and that and and that financial I I formula it hasn't worked it would be like going into the stock market and buying apple at the height of apple and they say to you this is great you're buying two hundred shares of apple you do know it will never be this high again and they are saying no I love apple I just one apple and just gonna lose money the rest of the time out that's what it's been like in the free agent market they've turned that around on his head and said here's the value we think of every player that's over the age that that's literature going which is over the age of thirty thirty three years old thirty five year olds don't even bother looking for a contract you got to take a one year deal Max and maybe even a minor league deal with an invite to camp so they've controlled it looks huge element of the game and and of what players are looking to do when you get after five years you're locked into your first contract for the first five years and now the second you have a chance to play for another team and that's where you're at your Max value if that's if your clock started too late and you're over thirty I mean look at guys like Lucas Duda who is hitting thirty home runs just two years ago he's out of the game there's no need if they if they found a way to say he has no value to a baseball team it is our first baseman who has decent hands but he doesn't provide enough other than hitting home runs and driving in RBIs so they have found ways to manipulate salaries all across the board and I think that they're just continue to try and see what how much they can get away with without anybody noticing and I love the fact that the players have come out left right and center and and try to explain it in the best layman's terms of what these actual you know attempt at at their contractor offers being the same thing just you know would you like to discuss with them is gonna put it out there he said would you like six doughnuts now would you like half a dozen donuts now would you like to set of three doughnuts no well it's it's that's exactly the way that they keep doing that these numbers and putting the numbers with the number of games match to it and the pro rating scale sliding a matching it it still comes out to the same number and yet they still want the players to take another cut after that to try and to try and make sure that they don't lose as much as they stand to lose at this point doesn't appreciate your time and insight on this matter man thanks for taking the time today my pleasure take care doesn't figure out former MLB pitcher co host of amazing but true podcast week weighing in on the current argument back and forth between major league baseball and its players you can weigh in on that eight five five two one two four two two seven we've also talked about the debate with in the NBA regarding a return to play and whether returned to play would be positive or take away from the movement in the country at this period eight five five two one two four two two seven not to mention J. "On Robert some fans for trivial one one nine FM and forgery is sixty six WFAN and WFAN FM New York seven twenty three AM is Wednesday evening which is a one stop it's JJ jazzy Stansky Germany right here on the fact that a board eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six and we'll have a buddy Nelson Figueroa is gonna join us a little bit later on in the show and I want to get a sense from fifty two thousand six bats two thousand fifteen that's that's been a hot topic that random we've been brought up the last two days and you know I got a tweet from somebody moments ago hold kind of the Sherin the exact same opinion of me when it comes to the old games in the old stuff you know it's fun to a point I enjoyed to a point well actually we are sports back I mean I can't stress that enough we need our sports back but I have no problem breaking it down to get the styles are gonna but at the end of the day and then I'm going to salivate ominous salivate over a live game like the NBA the NHL or baseball like a wood over steak medium rare willow creamed spinach from establishment Williamsburg which should I believe is up and running that would be the site for me like watching like NBA NHL playoffs a baseball my goodness be like a steak medium rare and I'm not just talking about you wanna mistake I'm talking elite top notch pick your restaurant slid off we had to Westchester county and today going to get us started he's on the fan all right how are you buddy J. J. F. the ducks come like in the seven to eleven my friend Anthony amen to that I feel the exact same way I mean listen it's allowing me to you know I'll get a couple earlier get everything I need to get don get the golf game in the now sitting down and talking to you guys so it's terrific how you've been my friend it's conceivable I've been good man I've been good I thought I I you know I'd be celebrating right now for a beer and still get the bodega don't even man don't even I'll see now you're teasing me and kidding that's the problem now you with teasing me by throwing a ball Dega reference in there and it is very cruel to think about the fact that you know last October is probably going to be the last time already Yankee Stadium event maybe going all the way until twenty twenty one but Hey we got to crawl before we can walk you know what I mean so let's get the games back watch the games once again and then went to work towards that next tree you know what I mean I couldn't agree with you more I want talk real quick about the Blake now comment now it was it was tone deaf forty set right but what if it was someone like Mike trout who said it wasn't Blake now is thirty years old he just signed a female contract that they can do with thirty two right he knows he played for Tampa Bay which they don't pay people he still underpaid by the market so he's looking at it as I got to get my money I gotta keep pitching to get that next contract because you're not you're not gonna get three hundred million dollars at twenty nine going into thirty so that's my take on it personally entity my take on smell from a couple weeks ago is that even though the message may have been accurate the way in which she came out was telling def and I think we're in agreement on that like the idea of sand I gotta get mine when you know you have the unemployment numbers the what if they are get people followed the what if they are like that is just a silicon at three no matter how accurate it may be no matter how spot on it may be you know the average Joe driving around the York city right now or drive around America is not going to want to hear that you know what I mean like people who are caught and people out of work they're going to see that video and I would like to tell you I don't wanna hear you right now I agree but what I'm saying is what we're really saying if it was Mike trout who was you know we have the face of baseball which what time to get into the whole day for the market players because we know that but what if it was Mike trout who said that we still be perceived just as bad anything I say yes I really do I think people at this point in many ways and you got to consider when the news cycle was you know two weeks ago there was basically nothing going on in the world of sports so if anybody made a comment like that it's going to be all over the place I mean Blake Snell's comments for goodness sakes as he played a video game wore on every sports channel they were on every talk radio station and it's kind of due to the fact that sports talk host like myself welcome to some of the talk about yes I believe trout hole any of these guys become I would stay like that I think they'd be feeling the heat some that's it whatever it is it is let's just hope that sometime soon we could be light enough to still get the bodega and join our software night probably at this point eighteen packets American light Antony the idea chasing on the twin number twenty eight my brawl that is the goal she had a good start to the shop I think that's what everybody is searching for number twenty eight if you're active it's just not going to be twenty eight as usual because you won't be back in the stadium more before the game back in a bodega that is an all time great establishment yeah I was out with the short porch gas cell of those gas they're terrific over poor still they do good work the young but they do good work Hobbs in calmly smokes and the other guy who is great I love him he's like my spirit animal they will more successful he is he's actually nicknamed the more shy I might be on some football weeks but I went on with those guys and you know they were big Billy stands I want those places still but if your tree Anke fan you know about the reprehensible well you know you most certainly now let's add on's New Jersey John up next these on the fan Johnny going on brother Johnny baby I you don't want to get the other voices admitted that they meant you had me earlier about the stake into you said creamed spinach that Paul notes on you gotta go willow creek spinach on the side you're not you're not a believer in the creamed spinach that's a mistake our digital area but I speak the data hi I'm I'm cool to big potato but what about a vegetable choice gavel vegetable and there are those burgers okay that's an acceptable inside role with these packets I prefer the creamed spinach myself but I can roll with the asparagus John so bottom line is we need to state and don't tell me medium well or any of that garbage medium rare the weight should be not right I want my state moving your arms and Adeboye rarer the reverted back amen especially if the place knows what the down a year ago you know as far as your vice gore saying about the place now it wasn't what he said was how we set it because of the exact same thing but if you came across and say look you know I got a family to discuss that I'm concerned about he came across as a complete douche with the man that get the rona van I can go to the media that's why it was taken as bad as it is I one thousand percent agree with that sentiment and John I don't care if it was place now or Mike trout or Gerrit Cole if they went on video and said I'm I don't want to get the loan I gotta get remind you you just sound like a jerk I mean there's no other way around it you sound like a total jerk and we talked about this a couple weeks ago when I was doing the overnight this is where your union has got to step in and I gotta be honest do I need to hear from Trevor Bauer do I need to hear from more K. Stroman like Trevor Bauer and listen sometimes these opinions are fair all the times is opinions couldn't be more wrong but he's one of these guys that have to have an opinion on everything like that just let it marinate leaded breed for a little bit but you don't need to be like chiming in on Twitter every other minute would it take like between Broward Stroman easy to guys in shame on me because I'm dumb enough to fall John but anytime I see something come out of their mouth it's like dude enough be quiet and because of them what are wrong the players are going to take the brunt of the fire from the fans there's not even a doubt in my mind that that if you're right about that and listen to if they're not on that day or not in the wrong you know what I mean the owners to me be a billionaires the owners insulting the players I think or the more guilty party but the players or the more you know recognizable the players of the guys that you see it in there the guys that you root for the year and then the guys you idolize so the owners can kind of hide behind that I think down the road and down the line even though the players may have that more Jimmy case and the players may be making the argument Hey day they're trying to screw us they're not doing right by our state China you know finagle the numbers they'll be the people that are vilified over and over again it does not a season and John Blake Snell for example they're playing baseball in mid July I don't think anybody's really going to remember his comments from a few weeks back if they hold out sit out entire season in many ways place that will be the face and the voice of the players in the way they're going to be you know one down the wall of course and then if he comes back in pictures opening day next year instincts that up well here to boost wages all out every which way my friend I appreciate the call Blake Snell if I'm him I'm working like crazy for the season to be only operational iron rule like crazy for the race to be open and somewhere in the middle of July I don't hear from a few fan bases but the point baseball nobody's gonna care you'll want to be like the poster child of in MLB walk out don't attend them trust.

"In shape but I think they've they've done it before it's just been so low level that nobody notices it because you're used to seeing all these minor league games Nelson Figueroa is our gas and also what do you think about the expanded playoffs the idea that the playoff teams would increase from five to seven in each league yeah that's another one like I said it gives everybody hope right and that's what every single team wants I don't think there's gonna be any team that's going to say no to another two teams having an opportunity to to be able to play in the playoffs so for me I think it's special situation Hey it could also keep more interested to be more fans and I'll have a chance to root on their teams for a longer down the stretch as you get to the to the playoff hunt so in this in this and so incensed I think they're going to try it out and if they they do vote on it and the players union says that it's a girl and I don't see it being an issue because of the such special circumstances you know how difficult Nelly you know you know sometimes you you feed off the crowd you know good ways bad way right some guys react will well you like being on the road and whatever how about being an athlete being you know a performer stepping in and there's nobody there well you know it we you know we've all played games in front of nobody I get some for certain points are our allies but I mean the point being is you know how difficult or how strange will that be for the baseball player yeah it's going to be extremely strange I think that's one of the things that you don't really you hear about it when things are good and you hear about it when things are really bad right because it the extremes is when you kind of notice the fans when the fans are making the whole building shake in there that you know they're kind of pumping the team up and they do they they get a walk off win do they always behave the fans were huge part of it you know you could feel it it's palpable feeling on the other extreme when they're getting booed off the mound and you know you're every time Edwin D. az warmed up last year it seems like you know if you knew the fans were there no matter how many there were so if there's not a crowd there is not it's it's going to be a strange kind of thing I mean I don't think a lot of these guys have done it since you know even you talk about high school days you know the most these guys played college division one colleges and they're used to playing in front of crowds you know that as a paid professional that's what it's all about because those are the people who helps you know put put these players on the field but I think it's just something where you gonna go out there and it's not going to take away from your focus it'll be interesting to see if the the if there's anything that really changes on the inside of the game of the actual playing field if if anyone's going to I would say they're not going to notice but I don't think it'll be that big of a difference in the product so Nelson when you become an expert poker player it also Nelson one those are table yesterday which I had all these technical issues ahead also about felt so bad because I get it we were doing this charity event call out to the stars and I was myself Maggie that was Carlin Chris Collins it was Ron Darling do gods and then Libertad and ice it was I was like oh my god to be such a fun table and I'm noticing that Maggie keeps folding every hand I'm like let's what was the what drives me right now but this is an orthodox Jew like rocky you know she's waiting clubber Lang at what the first ten hand the Mike no so I text or no my games are you in and no and she heard from Carl and he couldn't get in there was a problem with the pokerstars so I wound up only playing against two gods and let the tide and I had a I had a flash on the river and it was amazing what a what a rush because I had dated a man long enough where I was like okay I'm I'm pretty solid got it and then I'll send it it turned on the other side I was on the high side of the of the flush and I was like this is perfect god I'm not dead there I was the chip leader and then it was a matter of just kind of waiting them out make they got Froggy when they had a decent hand in and knocked out of a tired last and moved on to the finals and some interesting players in there yeah Bryan Cranston and who was it I Casey Affleck nice so the last at the final table the final three players it was it was incredible to watch that the last hand to win it all was a pair of force wow who wanted and the guy using the screen name I don't know who it actually was wags he was it was a name but I don't think it would be share all I know is that it was it was incredible to watch like there was a a player who she was H. as a professional chess player and she was dominating for a while and then you know somebody pushed her all in a soccer player from the U. K. pushed her all in and while the beating her you got the card you needed on the last card the next thing you know it was down to two people and a pair of scores I want it because the guy just the guy just kept trying to cope go all in to win back the money he lost that you know I two hundred dollar hit two hundred thousand less than the other guy had almost eight hundred thousand so he figured you know well run up and hit an ace king he had an ace king are on there everything that dropped was nothing this on there that would help no tears no anything and a pair of force on the homeless we now have I was the one involved with that so now you're you gotta fight you got to the final table if you had Bryan Cranston and Casey Affleck at your table did you know that that was for the for final tables because the the way it worked out and so on on my table Michael Ian yeah Michael Ian black with on my table he knocked me out I don't think I don't think he had a ten to ten on the board of much there's no we have the third ten there's no way to do it more and he he baited me and got me to go all in any knock me off but he then he went over when he went over to another table I went and followed him to his table to see what he was and he had crashed Cranston even better ed Norton Cranston and Casey Affleck from rounders go ahead just on they were going at it with each other on the you know talking back and forth so it made it exciting with a lot of fun to be involved with but I am by no means a great poker player I just had I had because on that first table my text table not so much and I got that I got knocked out by Michael in black but was a great time all the way around so even if I do it though I'm glad you got a chance to show it show what you could do an alley so thanks to represent New York well yes you know we'll do it again I was very happy I got it I was able to win ten thousand dollars for team Kerry which highlights lined and my charity so I'm excited to get that check over to them in this recipe through these times because for them as well huge sports is huge and not having support to help raise funds is been a tough thing now that's the only good stuff rather listen man be safe you in the family happy mother's day man and and to you and your family and enjoy the rest of the day thanks for the time but thanks to you guys and everyone else out there thank you so much B. six thousand you guys she's also very Figueroa card shark and all all men I was diet I was dying I was going through all these technical issues I could get on the table little did I know it's folding every hand I'll probably like a like an amateur hour over there hang with the the through how long did the tournament last like for five hours and I was troubleshooting for like two hours like model the white with people from pokerstars there in the U. K. E. try to get all that this this thing totally and meanwhile while this whole thing is still going on I'm trying to troubleshoot and get myself to this table I'm just hearing the it was a Skype call would like all these huge act it was like commentary from Jeff garland is cracking jokes and it was it was Kevin Pollock who is track record David Schwimmer was on there we sit ku dressy yet look at Alexander well I've while the wall going on in your so a lot of the first baseman for the New York metropolitan zoo I root for was on their mark to share got pretty far and it was just a really fun day ahead because there it was the one who put it all together and Hanks obviously a massive New York sports vanities you know the voice of so many the Simpsons characters in these minutes so many incredible movies and and and TV shows and Hey put this all together and it was such an effort and they raise so much money for covert nineteen charities you got to pick your charity I would've been playing for why hunger right here in New York and unfortunately I could play but it was cool and Nelson Nelson showed up and showed out all those all those cards the card games on the team plane with his nine years in the majors work really paid off that's cool that's good that's a good Saturday afternoon all for a good cause coming up Moussa Maggie with you as we roll right along here on this Sunday take a right up until seven a lot more to get into we'll give you our thoughts on the new MLB proposal and maybe the strife between the players and and the owners about I cut in salary once again we'll get into that nexus moose Maggie right here CBS sports radio.

"Up on the socks. And that's what the victory last night, and we'll begin with Ardo in Manhattan around the family, and Arto. Hey, good morning. Thank you for taking the call, Richard. No problem. What's doing? A little bit about what you were saying about hiring different minorities, and ethnicities. And like you said, Nelson Figueroa was fired because he wanted to be on the post game show as you saw. Right. I didn't see a reason did it says it on the post. Let me ask you this. Rich queens. New York is the most diverse place on the planet with people being born in one hundred sixteen country when you go to city field, it's like it's, it's true melting pot nobody ever said why he was taking off that show. I wasn't crazy about him when he first started. But let me tell you something, he had, I think, just as good insight Babo heat up, but he did it in a more professional way nothing against him do cat. He's a good guy. But Todd zeal is the biggest Homer that I ever heard on FM, y okay? He never says anything bad and, you know, and now been called it like he's talked. But he was professional almost like Ron and Keith, and they think this points to the wilpon five feel is a friend and close friend of the wilpon. He gets the job. And if you look at that the F N Y even just the whole schedule of shows, there's no diversity on that show. And I think somebody has to start looking at that. What do you think? Well, I you know, honestly, I kind of agree with you on Todd seal and an miss Ron, darling. And he will be back later this month. They're saying. Zeal to me is not. There's just something lacking. I don't know what its presence voice insights. It's, it's just, you know, maybe it's gonna take a while to get used to, but I'm not seeing a whole lot, there other than, you know, kind of white bread. Bland presentation now I did not again. I, I know some people who know Figaro, and I want to get a little bit more insight because generally speaking, you don't walk away from a job like that. And I don't know whether it got contentious or or what, what the situation was, I'm going to need some more information on that, I'm, you know, I'm not a big person in quotas. I'm not a big person for oh, you must have this. You must have that I think you try to hire the best people for the job. But if it comes off in it's all, you know, one kind of person he started to think. Well, wait a minute. Why, why don't you have? Some different colors from different voices. You know what? What is it? What's the reason for it? And I think sometimes that limits, the appeal to minorities, and as much as we like to say, hey, we're colorblind. We have no prejudices. We treat everybody equally. You know, you see it in elections, people tend to vote for people who look like them and talk like them and act like them. And it's not out of any deep down sense of prejudice. It's just, you know, like when Joe DiMaggio came up in excel in Americans were proud. Hey, it's one of our guys. You know, there's that kind of thing, and I think in, in the long term, that kind of things not a good thing that we shouldn't care where somebody comes from, or if they have the same religion we have, but we look for things in common and give you an example, with me. You know, like Springsteen. Gravitated toward Bruce Springsteen, very, very early on in his career before he made it and I wondered why we had long conversations on the phone when I was doing overnights and part of the reason why I read his book, jeez. This is like my, my childhood reading his stories growing up. It's like yeah. I did that. I did that my dad did that my uncle did that and realized that we were so simpatico, because we shared so much in common, and I think that's what it has to do with as opposed to any kind of innate hatred for somebody that looks a little different than we are. And it's not even hatred. It's unfamiliarity, and that's not to say that there isn't bigotry, and prejudice and racism in the world because they're sure is. But in a lot of cases it's just as unconscious we gravitate toward people like us. Dan is in Dan vary. You're on the fan next. Dan? Hey, Richard great. Great stiff on that. That was really good. So I, I wanted to talk to you about two things. Quick, number one the little girl that got hit this week. And I'm I certainly don't want to come off, like a you know, you know, baseball American. You know, family all that stuff. But honestly, if you're a parent, and you're bringing your CV, intense two guys catching foul balls with infants in their hands. And you know what got to be vigilant you're bringing your kid who's not even looking at the game. And even if they were able to react or something like that, that, when are people going to, you know, what are people going to realize that, you know, you can't compromise your children? You know, if you take him to the zoo like that kid that filling the gorilla pen you, you know, twenty four seven, you gotta pay attention. And just like when we used to go on the museum park, righteous kids, you had to be a certain height to get on, you know, the, the big roller coaster whatever. You know, I it just shouldn't be I mean, you know, yeah, the netting protection and. All that stuff. But again, you know, not to sound like a party pooper, but I really think they should have restrictions when it comes to children of that age. And then if I may just make a quick point on the Matlock the other night. Yeah. You know in sports, we all know the game or the whatever it is that it's not one on the first hole. It's not one on the last hole. It's one throughout the course. Yes, it was a bad look for the closer to give up four runs the other night. In the Mets debate it and score. Yes, we're going to look at the ninth inning. Well, I'm gonna point the finger. I'm going to say this is the lowest it's gonna you know stick them into the, you know, the downward spiral. But, you know if again, if it's not beginning, it's not. And it's the whole course of and I think people way way too much on the other night. Thanks for the thanks. Well, see, Dan, I think you're in danger of blaming the victim here. And I understand what you're saying, and I agree with you up to the point of, you know, when you whenever you take your child into a situation where there is a certain amount of danger. And look, I mean, what are the chances of being hit by a line drive foul ball, not not very high. But there is that danger and you do have to be vigilant, and you do have to keep that in mind, anytime you take a child on. I'm not a parent have been so you know, I'm speaking theoretically here, but I think baseball is going to have to start to really think about netting from foul line to foul line. These players have bigger and stronger, and they hit the ball harder. I mean, we're seeing these exit losses one hundred seven miles an hour hundred ten miles an hour and his apparent no matter how vigilant you are if there's something coming at you. That fast, you can't react. And I get that a lot of people go to games now and they're playing on their telephones and they're not paying attention. That's something you got to be aware of you really do because, you know they're, they're flying projectiles coming in and no matter what you do in baseball. I mean, even pop flies, if you're not paying attention, come down and hitch on the head could kill you. So I mean you have to keep that in mind, but I think that baseball is going to have to extend the netting even further because we're gonna we're in a situation in society now where every life is precious. And we want to protect people, we want to protect kids, we want to protect everybody as much as we can. You know, look at the advances in auto safety now where we have warnings, if you're drifting into another lane or automatic braking, if you're not paying enough attention in a car stops short in front of you and seat belts, and airbags, and things like that. And we still have a lot of auto fatalities. So you do what you can, and look netting is a pain in the neck. But you know what you get used to it. And I think that's, that's what's coming. There's going to be netting all over the place. And. Yeah, it's just terrible in you say, wow. You know, you can't prevent it at all. But the there was a number that ROY Firestone. I think on earth. And it was in the hundreds of kids who have been hit by foul balls watching baseball on, on any kind of organized level. So it is a dangerous activity. I think is apparent he certainly want to bond your kid with your kid. And, you know, the whole stories about fathers and sons, and hey, you wanna have a catch dad from field of dreams. All that kind of stuff that's important. And that's really good. But there is a danger involved in it. No question about that. Let's go to Anthony in Marlborough. You're on the fan. Anthony. Richard. Good morning. How beautiful, you know, Richard, you couldn't hit it spot on. I was at the Yankee game last night. And I have to say that's not a game. That's an event I get to about three games a year. And I mean there is so much going on there. Richard the Yankees do I'm a met fan, by the way. And they go to city field times a year, throwing rightfully so dementia when I shop, too, but the Yankees make every game, especially when it's Boston an event, it was wall to wall, people, there was stuff going on all over the place. And this is my point. I took a walk in the sixth inning. And I walked around the bleachers over there. And it is there's a party going on Richard and, you know, it's, it's a special thing, especially when the Red Sox. I think you've caught it. And you know, when you're winning it's, it's much easier to do than when you're not eight seven seven three three seven six six six six.

"And I always say there are no conflicts between our unbelievable this idiotic city. Thrilled to see. The parking lot at city yesterday. But he's such an Epping power. You wouldn't go anywhere near Yankee Stadium during that same interview, the estimate mayor this fifty thousand Yankee fans in Bronx today, you're the mayor of New York City. What are you doing? He's like they don't want me there. And I want to be there. But love the Mets. And I love the Red Sox build a blah's for one reason. And that is that in eighty six Bill Buckner and the Red Sox didn't fact gift wrap that World Series win for us. But. You got a Yankee game going on in the Bronx. And he's in an empty parking lot in queens, but the Mets did start the season interrupted fashion yesterday. Jacob degrom Robbie canola Edwin as all heroes an opening day when they've not one by the way, thirty eight although last fifty opening days, and I really enjoy S N Y. You know, Gary, not a very good friends. I like Todd dealer. He's good. Not great. I do cat bumblebees savers, and it's probably going to embarrass my next guest. I think Nelson Figueroa is the best on the crew. I love them spent nine years in the majors two years with the Mets in oh eight and no nine I Don I should say as a pitcher. And even doing it for years. I think he's a great baseball analyst and here he is joining the Bernie and Ciccio Mike, Nelson Figueroa. Good morning Nelson. Good morning. Good morning. How's it going? It's going good. First of all. I have a message from rob Casartelli. I am making an appearance tonight for the March madness Nelson at the kettle black on Staten Island. Is that your place? Oh, yeah. Love your place. You do love it there. Good and then gallery Perron, of course, from the Brooklyn cyclones. He's he loves you too. So. Everybody. Well, you're a good, man. Everybody loves me. What I just said you won't put great at the baseball analyst job you two on us. And why I appreciate that. Thank you so much. Okay. Well, let's get to the what we saw yesterday. Nelson to gets a hundred and thirty eight million dollars two days ago has one of the historic great seasons in baseball and people were asking the question yesterday. How can he out do what he did last year? And it took him one start basically, basically each and every time out there. Now, it's no longer candidate outpitched the guy's pitching against this can the other guy keep up with the grop. Honestly, new look at yesterday's match up. Max Scherzer two time Cy Young award winner in recent years, and you think okay? This is the you know the game that breaks him. No, not at all, sir. Started out striking out the first six out of nine look like it was going to be tough to keep up pays to grandma's. In a sharp is normally could be, but that's the beauty of the garage. He doesn't have to be perfect to be the best of baseball. He gets better as the game goes along finds his other pitches as the game goes along. And by the end of the game. He struck out his last six out of nine. So it's not how you start. It's how you finish. And he was incredible wise tench viscounts got a big double play ground ball. I believe in the third. Anyone the NATs? What fighting to tie the game? So you remember we made the trade with the Mariners, and I kept having and you said this yesterday, the only one God, I love you. It was. Edwin Diaz trade. Okay. We wanted the best closer in baseball. We got him. Twenty four years old the truth is we can only get Diaz if we took canal. They want to unload to know, but of course, Brody knew that can I want a couple of really good years left. So it was all too happy to do it. But met fans were still bitching about the trade because of connote thirty six years old. I hope ah suspension, they just didn't get it. And by the way, if there were bitching about Robbie canal had that go yesterday. Yeah. Exactly. What's funny is that everybody wants to turn around and look on the other side of New York and said the baby bombers, and why can't we be like that? Why can't we get younger? The fact is we got better twofold by getting Robbie canal. Remember also Diaz is the crown jewel of the trae without a doubt twenty four years old under control for the next four years. Not not even a hitting arbitration as of yet. That's something. That's so prized that's fifteen to sixteen million dollars a year on the open market the way this guy can catch. Now, you turn it around to rob you canot. And yes, think about the first two years of production that he can't give you. He's still swing the bat as he did as a rookie. Sweet smooth swing puts the ball in play. We saw yesterday the lefty some sinker inside. He's able to inside out and slip it over the shortstops head and get the second run in Rb is in his first game the middle of the lineup. Production was non existent, and yet you still didn't even really care because all you needed was one run with the ground pitching Robbie canal driving in the runs. It seemed to work out picture perfect for Brody. You a little concerned though, about upends throughout the season on old Lowry's on the list right now Fraser is on the list. You started a rookie at first base Alonzo. We ought to be nervous making his first start and the hundred million Donald man, outside of the Graham cesspit this may not play at all this year. So you a little concerned ab-. About the firepower for this team as the season moves along. Remember, they face max Scherzer yesterday, max Scherzer has a pretty good game plan against a messy. Always has did shut them down. Oh, exactly. And that's the beauty. What serves it can do? He's shut down a lot at which was also does it gives up a lot of home runs. A makes that one mistake over the plate. And you get a guy like, you know, that's the game changer. He's able to hit that ball to ballpark. Do I expect that to happen? Every time no expected line-up wrestling alive to get shut down. No Conforto got some questionable. Call strike threes. Very borderline pitches to me Alonzo was a little nervous, not a little nervous. A lot nervous when you go out there. And you're facing max Scherzer and your geeked up, and this is the same ballpark that you broke stat cat that hit know four hundred eighty foot home run that went forty six degrees up in the air. You know that kind of thing gets in your head. So he wanted to make a big splash and gave them all the respect in the world. Started them off with the breaking ball. He swung and missed to it. And then the next three to throws them another nasty slider. So nasty that he went back into the dugout. You know, set some choice words about him. No. Because he actually struck out his first major league at bat. Not the way he drew it up. And then he said that was nasty, and it was so you have to be able to move on from that learn from those experiences and know that sure we'll challenge them with that breaking ball next time early on account be ready for it. So for the rest of the lineup was it a pretty day at all. But I do think Dominic Smith came in. We talked about him making the team along. Outside of Lonzo. He was able to have a nice at that long that gets on base and extra scores from second base on Rodney hit so that can't be overlooked. So the team has more depth the lineup. We'll have more punch at times. But I do think that what the best day for the offense in general, but a great day for Robbie canal. They gotta pay Strasbourg tomorrow. Syndergaard on the mound for the Mets the Mets enjoying the day off today. One more point Nelson Figaro, it does a great job on us and wine, you great here this morning now, you know, the Yankees they could hold the home runs. They want to sixty seven last year to more yesterday. But where their strength lies is even without Batanes out of vino into Britain into Chapman that is very tough. And we saw that with the Mets to Guam goes six Lugo, you bring back familiar to pitch the eighth now you've got d is to pitch the ninth. So as much as we talk about the Mets starting pitching they got three or four guys which is in the bullpen. They can shut you down. Yeah. Without a doubt. I think last year they learned. A lot about Lugo in gasoline in the bullpen could they make the jump to be fulltime relievers. And. I think you found in a big way there are weapons that you can use in a multitude of ways to three innings if need be along days. One inning matchups. You gotta do go. Who's actually one of the best his top five and getting out lefties over the last two years. Would you look at good Salman, he's got nasty stuff sinker slider combination? And even has the ability of now wrinkle in a breaking ball there. Just in case you have to go multiple innings bringing back some Melia on a basically our team friendly deal only ten million dollars. He's only twenty nine years old at the time all the other relievers with thirty three thirty four. Plus, I think it's an underrated move. You know familiar can handle the pressure of New York ninety four saves in two years before his last season. I do think that he is a terrific bridge to have going into then at the same time we d as a rubber wrong, but don't wanna burn about you know, three or four or five days in a row. You got the ability to go right to familiar. There. So I don't need Diaz to give me sixty six this year. I'd be perfectly happy with DS. Having forty saves familiar. Having twenty saves where you have sixty saves combined. That's a great point now Nelson. I really enjoy your work. You're terrific. Enjoy your day on how some more on this weekend Strasbourg and Syndergaard tomorrow. All be watching Nelson. Terrific. Thank you. Appreciate it. All right. "Actually took three biopsies yesterday. When I was getting both talks and filler one of my stomach one of my head one of my forehead because I just won't stop tanning, and what are the results? Pocono in two weeks. When I go back for more filler, more, wrestling and more radius, whatever it's called. So anyway, that's me. I'm the real GT yellow I'm going to be fifty two years old amount of talian. I'm not Jewish. I don't go to the jersey shore ago with the old Jews opened the Catskills. We'll last year I did because you're the hard rock in Atlantic City. But I am nothing like these people even though I want to be these people you kind of like them. I am I I'm white them. But I'm not them. So, you know, they got all these guys on the show there will very famous you may not know them out there. But that's fine. Pauly, D's very very famous Mikey the situation. I think he's in jail jail tax evasion. Thank you, Mattie. How he in jail for tax evasion. But Amazon didn't pay any taxes and they're fine. That's a very good question. And when we get the situation on from prison. We'll ask him that question. But he won't be on today. Neither neither will Ronnie, but one of my favorite guys on the show Vinnie. Who's really not a lot like the other guys? Then he's really quiet Staten Island. Kid doesn't have the big muscles doesn't have the great tan. In fact, what is he doing on that show? He's very mild put me on. Instead, I'm gonna tell Vinnie today. I should be on instead of you. So Vinnie is gonna join us in the nine o'clock hour, and then one of the guys on S N Y, which of course covers the Mets and the Mets win yesterday. Former met pitcher sits there along with Gary apple and do and Todd seal Nelson Figueroa join us on the burning and sit show today too. So you got at least and things can always change. At least three great guests coming up today. The phones always open one eight hundred eight four eight WABC one eight hundred eight four eight ninety two twenty two your thoughts on the Yankee win. The Matt win Donald Trump in Michigan last night. Maybe you win the Bronx yesterday afternoon. All that Bill de Blasio is little speech from an empty parking lot. At Citi field in queens. As he readily admitted he did not want to be anywhere near fifty thousand rabid Yankee fans in the Bronx. We'll get to all that. But before we do we did tease at the very end of last segment a year ago today, one of the old time greats. What do you like a love hate them? Don, Imus is an all time. Great when they write the book or books many years from now, I really believe there's three guys. I know Sean Hannity is a huge success. And I love Sean personally as you do Joe success. But for me there are three guys three in radio that I put above everybody else. How to me is number one. Absolutely. Don. I miss is. Number two. Okay. And Rush Limbaugh is number three. Now, again, money-wise Hannity is right. I gotta tell you. I worked in south Florida for many many years many years, and there was a guy down there. He died about six seven years ago. He was a huge store in Florida and stern. Love them stern. Really really tried to get them on XM serious. Siriusxm. What how would I went there? He was the first openly gay radio host ever. He was brilliant. You hear a lot of these drafts on this show, including thank you, the great the great, Neil Rogers. I always thought Neil Rogers belonged in the top five category. But the three that it's undeniable you can't argue or stern Imus and rush. A year ago today. Don, I said goodbye. It was good and bad. It was bad. Because it's always sad. When a legend after five decades Marconi awards calls it quits, but it was good. Because quite frankly, he was tired the show grew tired, and it gave me and Bernie the opportunity to show New York. Just how great we are on the reception has been terrific. But I still maintain a healthy amount of reverence and respect. For fact, I talked to Amish now quite a bit Bernie doesn't but I do. So anyway, let's take it back a year ago today. One for the very last time he has not done anything. Nothing. Nothing. That's not is choice. But he's done nothing since nobody knows what I am. That's not you daddy come up in a year ago today right here on seventy seven WABC. This is very emotional. So get ready. Here's this saying goodbye. Wrote down. And. I want you to remember those..

"Radio sixty six WFAN and WFAN FM New York. I saw come back. It is a Tuesday edition of JJ after dark, John jastremski right here on the fan. And even though it's miserable here in the state area. We're about what seven seven and a half weeks away from the started at twenty nine thousand nine season. This guys wanted to best you see them all the time on us. And why talk Mets talking Yang Steve former big leaguer, Mike good Powell, Nelson Figueroa figgy, Johnny Starsky. Hi, I'm doing great brother figure. Let's get right to it. You're a pitcher you've been around the Mets, you know, how dominant Jacob degrom is you give them a long term deal. If you were an front office. I don't see how you can't. I think in the past the Mets have gone out to look for a star of that caliber to be the leader. This guy has done it from within his home grown. You know, what you're getting from him. You know, how hard he works. You know, exactly what his what his regimen is. And it Ackerman. You know that he needs to be paid. You have to have this guy in jersey all the way till he's a whopping thirty five. I know. It sounds crazy. Right. Thirty five years old well over the hill. But I think he's in that same mold of the ver- Landers of the world that, you know, learn how to pitch and continue pitching at a higher level the older, they get figgy. I think about if the Mets let degrom going into the final year of his contract. What how they could be potentially just disaster. I mean, this guy now it's done everything. You could ask him to do. He's one of the best pictures and all baseball. Do you get the sense Nelson? If the Mets let the gram going to the final year of his contract, you are taking a monumental race that he may say, you know, what it's time for me to go play. Oh, without a doubt. I think that's really it. It's been shamed. As far how degrading has kind of been handled. I think when you look at the way that contracts are structured, they're structured based on time. And you only pay according to a crew time you really pay for numbers before free agency. So everybody has the same amount of time. So no matter what level you're putting in. So goes out there wins the rookie of the year award, right? But he's getting paid the same exact amount as a guy who's first year who maybe sat the bench the whole year. But you crew the same amount of days that plates and so the next year when it comes to contract time the team should give him a little kick. A little bonus there for the rookie of the year for performing above expectations. But he can get the same exact contract as a guy who just sat the bench the whole year. Maybe had you know, one hundred at bats. That's the problem with that kind of system and the reward system is supposed to be. Reward the guys that are doing. Well. So does rookie of the year. He does all star game. He does take your team to the World Series is undoubtedly the guy that's carrying the low, especially when Matt Harvey went down you're supposed to kind of kick in then. And it wouldn't take a lot. It takes. You know, everybody else is getting four hundred fifty thousand you kick in a hundred thousand extra that leaves a good taste and the players that, hey, I'm being appreciated for what I'm doing on the field this way when you get to this this this area of his contract, and you can see free agency on the horizon, you can see the same thing though, that he's still a rising star with now winning aside young on his mantle you look at the contract that have been given out if a native all the is worth seventeen million dollars for the short amount of time that he's put in good work compared to the rest of his career. Then degrom camp is going to sit back and say if he's getting seventeen I deserve twice as much as that without a doubt. So I think you are pushing the envelope a little bit the longer you wait, I would've tried to get something done before the season ended. Or right after the season. I think you have the Cy Young award winner and say, hey, let's lock him up member. Remember, I think the one thing that the Mets were kind of banking on his with injuries and whatnot. Hey, he's one surgery away from maybe becoming Matt Harvey Matt hard we're supposed to get two hundred million dollar player. Matt Harvey just signed, but he signed for eleven million guaranteed with four million more an incentive, that's fourteen million. That's not a bad living for a guy who had the second worst ERA in all of baseball to start over the last three years. So the degrom campus sitting back and trying to wait. I don't like what free agency is doing. Because of the owners are also making the markets all drop about what guys are worth. So I think they have to come to a happy medium here and meeting the middle Nellie, you're round this met staff, you know, about the emergence of Zack Wheeler was terrific in the second half really was terrific since the middle of may, then you will get Mazzi pitched all last year was very up and down consistently inconsistent. When you look at the other guys interest rotation. Let's take Syndergaard out of it for a minute. Because I think he's gonna. Pitch at a high level. I expect to that beat the Graham who's the biggest X factor, in your opinion is it and his emergency. And if he's for real or is it Stephen that's finally bursting onto scene and giving you that sorta turnaround that quite frankly, we got out Zach will last year. That's exactly what I'm thinking is every year. I said it because he used to be the only left handed starter in in that rotation. You know when talking about the four aces and where he fit in. He was kind of always at one that was just below all the other guys, but it's not because of his stuff. It's it's when things go bad for him. They were going bad. So quickly at fall right off the rails innings would get out of control. He had a nice routine that he was going to in between pitches and kept him locked in kept him focused. But I think it also took a little bit away from him as well. Because that's soon as he missed stepped in that routine something bad happened. He wasn't able to keep it on track. I I look for sleeping that's to be. Well, more quipped a little. Mental toughness more so than physical. I was great physically that he was there for thirty starts. Don't get me wrong. That's great. But anybody can just be there. I want this guy dominated and he has the stuff to dominate. He needs to pitch a little bit differently than he has in the past. I think he pitches too much to a pattern inside and been breaking ball doesn't nearly play as well as it should. I I've talked with Dave island about it at great length about how I think match needs to use that curve ball a little bit more put a different tilt on his breaking stuff that he's a little bit too flatness zone. And he's been working with him with that. And I trust island mad. I love what he did with Wheeler. I love how he hardest. What degrom was and kind of, you know, push them in continue to push them in the right direction to see exactly how good he could be. I do think it's going to be a breakout year for Stephen Matt. I think finally he's going to get over that hump of that mixture of 'em. I hurt cannot pitch through pain and at the same time wanting better and better results. Nelson Figueroa former big leaguer check him out all the time on. So figgy when you look at least it seems like everybody's looking to get better braids, go get Donald Sinden mcken. They got a great young core Phillies, removed all mccutchen Robertson. Sikora day may end up with Machado Harper national signed Patrick Corbin. And we know the Mets made a lot of moves. Do you think the Mets right now have done it off to close the gap with those top teams atop this division? I think they did because they did it a little differently. Normally what you go to free agency. Everybody's looking to make that big free agent. Splash right, go get the biggest guy out there in the market, and that's gonna fix all your woes with too many holes. There are too many holes when when Brody came aboard and Brody decided to instead of trying to continue to raise the ceiling. Why not raise the floor? Let's move everything from the bottom up. Let's fill in the blanks in a way that we're not gonna be counting on two or three guys that get hurt once they get hurt. Now. The season's lost. You don't wanna have the Eric? Campbell's of the world batting fourth. Come june. So they went out, and they filled all those gaps. You got jed Lowrie who a very underrated. Not just second baseman. But a guy who could play a multitude of positions that that switch hitter can play up and any way that they they need to put him in the lineup. I think that was a great acquisition getting Rama's a power hitting catcher a guy that I believe that can handle this dot catch and throw as well. Yes, there's always health issues with everyone. I mean, you can go to any sport and any free agent signing. Everybody always worries about the health issues, you happen to be able to take that risk and keep pushing the envelope in. And I think Brody did that in a way that was kind of outside the box where you would think. Okay. AJ pollick? Is the right fit for centerfield? And you know, we gotta get Bryce Harper or you gotta get Manny Machado put those guys in there. And then your banking on a lot of money in that one area. And yet you're still going to have those same holes. If and when that player gets hurt because it seems to happen to the Mets all the time. Figuring a couple of the fence moves loved the Rama assigning pig. Fanta. Jed lowrie. But when I think about twenty nineteen you look around the sport. Whether it's still Red Sox the AKIs the cubs. The dodgers the Astros all these teams that are winning and winning at a high level. They have young emerging topnotch position players. I think it's time for Michael Conforto. Be that guy. We looked at Conforto. Couple of years ago is an all star had a great first-half freak injury that sidelined him with the shoulder. Then it took him a couple of months to get going April May June very sluggish. Then in the second half. He looked like Michael Conforto. This will be the year. Finally where we see a complete season game one game one sixty two with Conforto looks like a legitimate year in year out type of all star player. I believe so I love to kiss makeup from day one got thrust right into the big leagues and right into the pennant race and never skipped a beat. You know, unfortunately, what happened with the shoulder injury. And I do think that he came back to soon wanting to be on the field wanting to help this team win. And you know, the team had a great start to the season. And he was trying to do everything. He could you could just tell he couldn't get to that. That pitched the fastball and the upper part of the strike zone. And then he started reaching those breaking balls out of the strikes on a little bit too much just trying to do too much. And it just went down all on his shoulders to carry the load in the middle of that lineup yet. Jay Bruce going down injury yet Fraser going out injuries. And here's Michael Conforto. Probably not at one hundred percent but trying to give a hundred and ten percent, and it was really doing him. No good. Finally, got that strengthen that shoulder was firing at the right time. And he was able to put the barrel to the ball. And when he does that mean, either strong as anybody in the game line to line, and he's so impressive the way he can hit the ball. The other way we saw that in the second half and for him that put up the numbers that he did after having such a slow start to credit to him and sticking with it. And you have to learn from those experiences the only way to really truly find success value success is you have to have failure. And if he's going to have that type of failure. And. Still be able to finish out with a season. Like, he did I'll take that any day of the week and continue to watch this kid grow and become the superstar that I think he's gonna be figure has changed gears. Let's get the Yankees. I take a lot of calls from the fans who are maybe a little bit upset about the fact that Manny Machado or price opera at least for now. It's not donning. The Yankee pinstripes. They look I understand both of these players are top notch talent. But I'm of the mindset figuring Yankees fight a very solid off season signing. Paxton I liked the idea of bringing it back hat. They have auto vino and Britain in the bullpen. And I don't think it's like the end of the world when a team that's four star players on offense to begin with that they didn't end up one of these two guys. Do you look at the off season is a disappointment or a failure? If there's no many Machado or by Sauber. No, no, not at all. And I think that's kudos to Brian Cashman. Who hasn't been, you know, going deep sea fishing going for the big fish for quite some time. Now, I think you know, you saw those Yankee teams. Gotta get old right before your eyes, and those days long contracts, and you wind up releasing players owing them, you know, twenty five twenty seven million dollars a year. And I think he really saw the Arab of those ways. And really that young. You're talking about a young core that come up and position players. There's always seems to be a knock on everyone. I get it..

Bryce Harper sweepstakes could heat up at winter meetings

"Remember the days, right? It's out of Thursday morning. Friday morning is the rule five draft and that ends the proceedings there at the winter meetings. But when you get it. The winter as he got everybody in one place Arab Vegas, and they're going to be all packed into one hotel. And you know, every you have front offices up in a sweet, and they meet every day, basically live up there. You got the reporters walking the hallways. Really unique kind of set up something like MLB network will have their whole studio set up in the middle. Guess wouldn't be in the middle of the game floor there. But in one of the wings of the casinos. So it'll be. Rumer central and that job is everybody talks every little thing becomes a big rumor in typically, we talked about Jayson stark a little bit earlier tonight. You don't always have a whole lot of action at the winter meetings, especially early on and sometimes it will build up. But a lot of big moves already here as Paul Goldschmidt is traded for by the cardinals the Mets with their big move. In fact, they every single one of the teams in the NFL as except the Marlins is already had a big strike so far this off season. But where I am curious now is what happens with Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. The Yankees did not get Patrick Corbin. We have all this money to spend. I gotta take the Yankees are going to end up with one of those two and the Phillies you'd figure it'd be the landing spot for the other the national spend a lot of money on Corbin out. They get puts them out on Bryce Harper. But we just haven't seen them tied to. That many teams every fan base. I guess want Machado one Harper, but the actual teams and the rumor mill really has it started on them yet. And it's been the rest of the free agent market. It's been you know, kinda pick that to to this point Soviets Tennessee starting up on Sunday as to what the Mets still need to accomplish. Even after the deal this week had a chance to catch up. Nelson Figueroa best in why earlier tonight, we'll have
