High Avalanche Danger Out West Affects Transportation And Ski Areas
"To another story now. It's been a chaotic couple of weeks in the rocky mountains where large avalanches have closed highways ski resorts a single storm near Salt Lake City. It triggered a record forty eight slides as NPR's Kirk siegler reports. The increased avalanche risk comes at a time when more and more people are hitting the slopes in the high country. God probably Craggy Teton Mountains of North West Wyoming steep and deep Jackson hole is as a magnet for extreme skiers right. They're buddies goading them on on Matt Beauregard. And Rick lawler drop a fifteen foot cliff in this glade. Area called the tower three shits as just a melody honestly. You were just rep around rounded bounce. Skiing inbounds inside. The patrolled boundaries of the ski resort generally thought to be safer when it comes to avalanches. That's because all season skiers. I've been packing this snow down and stabilising it. But Matt Beauregard knows that's no guarantee we've actually triggered small slides on this exact face. They may duck a rope and ski ski out of bounds into the back country. But even here at the resort. They're wearing avalanche transceivers and safety gear. Just in case education's probably the most important thing. Rick here's wearing an air bag for added protection so in the case that he is stuck inside an avalanche you'll be able to pull this cord and hopefully float to the surface inbounds or in the back country. Avalanche danger is high across the mountain west. An unusually snowy early season followed by drought than dry powder. Storms then a punch of heavy wet snow last weekend in Utah. Today's storm dumped six and a half feet in Little Cottonwood Canyon home to the snowbird and Alta resorts awards and it ended up closing little cottonwood for fifty four hours and forty eight. Avalanches were reported one of those hit. The Road Mickey Champion is a forecaster here at the Utah Avalanche Center. She recorded wind speeds up to a hundred miles an hour on Ridge tops that further destabilize the already volatile snowpack in the Wasatch satch mountains. And then you put a big wrong heavy load or a wind load on top of that it just kind of upside down. It's like a pyramid when you take out the Baser Django when you remove one of the pieces says there were no fatalities reported in Utah. But last month skiers were buried and killed in avalanches within patrolled terrain at resorts in California and Idaho. Oh all of this is putting the round. The clock work. People tasked with keeping these mountains safe under the microscope Jackson Hole. Ski Patrol Director Drew Neilan stepping into his bindings above. You can't see it in the fog now. But there's a big cirque above us here and that's Casper Bowl. All and all that terrain is avalanche terrain every morning at dawn before the tram and the Gondolas Starts Spinning Army of Nielsen's patrol or detonating explosives lives to intentionally trigger slides. Now so skiers don't later and some of these can even be detonated remotely thanks to new robot like trolleys that reach even more dangerous surest remote places. Obviously we worry about avalanches coming down into the heavily congested areas. So that's one of our biggest concerns to get that work done early. Another big concern is simply that more. People are venturing out further into areas. They normally wouldn't have thanks to improved equipment. I think people assume that we're able that. We have the ability to completely eliminate the risk of avalanches within the scary. And that's just not the case but avalanche forecasters say along with the increased risk. It comes a new cachet becoming cool to say. You've taken avalanche courses and Dir as prepared as you can be Kirk Siegler N._p._R.. News Jackson Wyoming.
Racing's Drug Kingpin: Randy Lanier
"Let's get into the story of Randy Lanier the weed racer yes. Yeah Oh Randy. Lanier was born in Lynchburg Virginia on September. Twenty second nineteen fifty four. His family moved to Broward County Florida when he was thirteen. There were few things a good old boy such as randy loved more than pot. He would frequently sneak out of school just ahead to the beach and smoke smoke. Do by the age of fifteen. He was selling pot to his classmates. Even after he dropped out of high school he would continue to sell to his. GED Randy would say honestly. I didn't even think about it as drug dealing it was just a way. Okay for me to smoke without having to pay for Kumon tally. When did you first smoke? Pot Yeah Probably fourteen fourteen I think at that point I was too afraid of it because like there is on on my way to school. There is a tunnel that went under a freeway. Go through and like that's where like the the Estonians of the burnout so by smoke and they all kind of frightened me a little bit rightfully so they were kind of rough kids but I I it was never about that in high school. I thought like I think looking back on. It was pretty like dude intervene. Kinda like weird. I couldn't wait to smoke pot. Yeah Yeah I would've smoked pot way earlier if I were popular enough to have any friends. Yeah like years later I realized tons of kids I knew were smoking weed and they were like totally cool but it was just like those tunnel. Kids'll uh-huh scared me away from it is the first time I smoked was in college On top of a parking garage that was across the street from our dorm And of course like it was out of an apple. Of course yeah I think everybody's I Branches out of an apple and of course it didn't have any effect act on me and then the second time it did me and my boy tyler went back to our dorm room and we did freestyle raps over McNamara. She's a few hours. That's that's the way to do it. It was very sick. I mean when I was a kid like we'd culture was just so much it was just painted in such a different way. Yeah you know like it's fly out of lax with weed in your pocket. They were like we don't care some of these stores. La Look like the frigging apple store like men and it's crazy and it's like it's very convenient and you don't. You don't feel weird about buying pot but I feel like I definitely like missed out on like that. Like illicit elicit like. Yeah I used to smoke such crappy pot but the fact that there are people making billions of dollars off a weed right now and still people serving life sentences for possession national or selling is a huge problem that we should address maybe an another another day on another episode pats anyway it by the age of Nineteen Randy began working for construction company where he continued to sell it. Because he's not only a jug. Dili's Kinda just like a lazy like he's he jug dealer because like I don't know who's round man overtime it's clientele grew increasing the size of orders as well as prophets as sports illustrated. PUT IT in time. Joints turned into Baggies baggies. Turned into bag bags turned into bricks. rix became bales ails sales of a push. teed Johnston the BAGGIES. I can't do it slow anyway. Now it's hard. He's very good to the one thousand nine year. Old Randy drug dealing was the most promising opportunity yet he said. Let's just say I was definitely making more money. Then I made Neilan boards all day. I believe one of his last purchases on his first I just want to point out. How like good? This dude is at just sound clips. Yeah you know like yeah. Very romantic quotes. Yeah yeah one of his first purchases with his newfound wealth was a twenty seven foot magnum sports speedboat. He purchased for eighteen grand. Initially the boat was only. I used recreationally. He would jump waves and just you know cruise around there but before long an associate recommended he put that boat vote into quote commercial. Use like selling ice cream from the boat. James I doubt it. Oh I looked up these magnum votes This speedboat in particular is like so cool yeah just long as hell low fast. They're sick this guy's cool and and just like that Randy lanier move from being a low level drug dealer to a mid level trafficker in the timing. Couldn't have been better It it was the early nineteen seventies. It was a smuggler's Paradise Man. It was like the pirate days trafficking into the US specifically really from Columbia was still unknown. Threat that would soon become one of the biggest drug crazed sees in US history and a new exotic strain of marijuana called Colombian Colombian gold was being grown on Colombia's Guajira peninsula and it was beginning to flood the American black market. The arrival of Colombian gold fueled fueled a boom in America. Known as La Bonanza meeting. Better the mayor which loosely translates into the marijuana. Bonanza guys we gotTA Marijuana Bonanza Hands. Of course Florida was the best place to import such a large amount by the early eighties. About three quarters of the United States marijuana supply originated from Columbia Razi in his first mission. He he went to the Bahamas to pick up one ton of marijuana. So you're gonNA see like yeah I'm going to grab my boat to the middle of the ocean and pick pick up a ton of pot two thousand pounds a week it's crazy Randy showed up to these specified coordinates in the middle of the ocean and another other. Bigger boat would pull up next to them and the the we yeah. What's up guys like? And they transferred all the bales from the big boat into the whole of Randy's speedboat and then he would get the hell out of there all right thanks town to go back toot sweet right. I picture him just like wearing a cowboy like no shirt gene short. I'm imagining as not to become a in in the story from now. Yeah I think that's a good way to imagine This this technique was super common speedboats. Like Randy's were fast enough to evade the long long arm of the law and it wasn't difficult for smugglers to slip up the intercoastal waterway and hide a labyrinth of Florida swamps. According to a report one trafficker could earn a return investment of around one hundred fifteen percent so it made sense for randy to do this with a speedboat and naturally after you know I mean it sounds like this is like trying to get people to do it which they probably were you can get a return of one hundred and fifty. Why don't you come to this lunch at the Holiday Inn? And I'll I'll tell you all about a way that you can get up to one hundred and fifteen percent return on your investment with one Boron. We'll even Lisa the boat. Yeah very reasonable reasonable interest rates. Naturally ready was hooked. He did this trip. He did this kind of trip often. In spite of risks linear loved tempting fate eight and living on the edge of disaster for Kenny loggins lurk he had multiple close calls including one time almost sinking his boat as it was way down down so much by marijuana despite everything he frequently alluded capture by the US coastguard and received a twenty five percent. Cut of his delivery. Delivery seems like a lot. I mean he's taking all the risks to me. That's I guess he was just like a runner yes he wasn't dealing to the public anymore. Now he's there's like a guy from the ocean is a post mates for we. Yeah in a in a way. Yeah do you post Manson anymore. I use post meets way too much. I try to be waste free But you know sometimes you just you just want to pack of EMINEM. I know in one thousand nine hundred ninety six at the age of twenty two Lanier married his high school sweetheart. Pam uh-huh with her help. He opened a jet ski and boat rental shop near Fort. Lauderdale as a front to launder the money and present an air of legitimacy gene under the guise of a boat rental shop he soon purchased a sixty five foot trawler. I looked. I looked up with these are trawlers are basically really big boats votes There could be like recreational trawlers or fishing trawlers. Like just imagine a sixty five foot boat milk you can look it up Your you'll probably imagine the right thing. It's a big big boat with low. Yeah he got one of those with Got A lot of room. That's bigger than I thought. Yep Yep sixty five feet him with a boat this thing that is a thick composed he could smuggle directly from Columbia. No longer having to stop open meet a A mothership down to the Bahamas with each delivery he made with a sixty five foot boat he could smuggle over eighteen thousand pounds sounds of pot into the US that allowed sweet sweet dreams Enoug- soon despite massive quantities. He has now smuggling he was always smart smart about it. Never visiting import twice in a row. He would load up in the port of Santa Marta in Colombia and he would either doc in the US in in New Orleans San Francisco and sometimes bridgeport Connecticut Far Ways up the coast. Yeah I mean just looking at those three locations locations that's a huge spread Like some of those trips could take like a week. Some of them can take like three weeks to get there. You know that's crazy. Yeah smuggling muddling much like racing and comedy is all about timing Lanier loved loved the adrenaline rush of almost being caught doing something so illegal but he needed more one day while visiting an auto show that was taking place. Within the Miami Ame Convention Center Linear stumbled upon a booth that was sponsored by a local driving club. He immediately realized that racing would give him the high he needed and impulsively possibly signed up and that is when the racing career of Randy Lanier started in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight at the age of twenty four to the guys. I'm twenty six now. You don't even own one boat. I don't own a boat. Never smuggled shifts this dudes in his third career now. Yeah he started out as like get drug dealer. And he's a drug trafficker now owns a boat rental company. That's three and now he's like you know what man I think. I'm going to give this race car driving the try. It's awesome randy bought in nineteen fifty-six Porsche three five six speedster for seventy five hundred bucks and competed in the production class races at the SCC a southeast regional championships. Although he had no clue what he was doing he was a natural with each race. He proved drastically eventually winning the e production class in nineteen eighty at age. Twenty six. How old I am? I've never won any production class. Some feeling inadequate inadequate. But that's fine

Was twenty seven years old when her parents told her no, but more about her her creation? They told her she had been conceived using a sperm donor. She didn't know that until then she was twenty seven years old. Suppose that wouldn't have a major effect on a person's life. But she got curious in one of the no more about who her biological father might be. Of course, they don't know. It was just a sperm donor. They didn't know until of course, now, we can all do our DNA. Typing and the research from twenty three and me and genealogy dot com. That's how Carolina and I did ours. So she went to twenty three and me, she had the DNA type, and she went public with it, meaning you can interact with other members of the people who have bought the service and and find find your relatives. And she did she learned that the man who had given her life lived in the San Francisco Bay area, he was Jewish and of Russian descent. So that's kind of interesting. And then she learned some other things she learned that she's not an only child she always grew up as an only child in her family, but she has much of half siblings. And I do mean a bunch. She she found out that she had one sibling, and then another and then another and then another and another. "Bodes major releases. So it's easy to find an which looking for by skimming through it. It's not pretty while quasimodo's. I've never been a pretty sight. But it still remains an extremely useful resource for many reasons, and this is just one of them. Then do you have any any resources for? No, not really. I mean, I was trying to do some googling right before we started recording and looking in all of these obscure places in most of the places that I found he's right? Like, they they all have some sort of indication of a, you know, a a rating of some kind. So I think it's it's tough to find something that is accurate and is updated regularly that doesn't have that. And you guys may have have hidden Neilan head box office much may be like the just the way to go. If that's your if that's what you're looking for H E in any reserve now, I just Google upcoming movie. I'm going to say that years is probably the best one. I will put a link in the show notes. I also use my buddy site, Alex at first showing he has a release calendar, which I don't love, but he also updates a a RSS feed of released dates, which you can add into your I Kau. So if you have an iphone or a MAC book, or you know, any apple product, you could basically insert this calendar in there, and it's a pretty updated in it puts those release dates on your calendar, which I actually kind of like, but sometimes that sometimes Alex doesn't update those as as often as like box office, Mojo. So some of that information might be inaccurate box office Moges run out of run by what Amazon, and I am db. So they're like, you know, up to the minute when one of release date is now by like Disney like like vendors moved up. I go to box office Mojo, it's already change. So let's get to our next question. Anthony, w writes in that he works in the theater world where they regularly see multiple productions. I I think he means like Broadway theater like stage theatre world where the multiple productions and revivals of shows we will go see the same exact production. If there is an interesting actor change just to see if the interpretation of the role has changed or a revival with the same exact script, but different updated take. This includes the shows that have been captured on film, those offense for me to go. See different productions to see how people interpret them. Now. Of course, I understand they're different. They're different forms of entertainment. But it seems like getting a new version of your favorite story should be fairly similar is it the holy would influence or something. I am just not seeing in terms of. Movie remakes, and, you know, movie reboots like like, why do we have such cynicism towards those projects when he him in the theater world that is something to Baskin? Jacob. Actually, this is to have a two prong responds through they go together here. One of the theater is a federal when show is over. It's gone that cast is gone that memory is gone. Maybe someone recorded it. But it's not the same energy of watching a play on videotape is not the same as washing in that room, the entire appeal of theatrical show is that the issue in the moment. That moment belongs you people in the room of blogs of that cast, and it's gone. But with a movie or TV show, it's there forever. It's on DVD Blu Ray to be rerun female on TBS every other week. And so I feel like when a new show comes along a new stage show, it is a matter of. Oh, yeah..

So that's the only that I could fall on. Professor Cohen is I never hear you mentioned the Neocons. All right. Well, let's get them to react to that. We've got a minute before the break, Stephen. Well, I think he was lobbying Utah. Not me. But for gas and jewelry is a very interesting writer. I read what he writes. I I mean, I could save Neo cons, but it's kind of cliche. They've been around so long their agenda is clear they are always eager to pick a fight with Russia. They are opposed to cooperation with Russia. They're in their second or third generation they fallen out among themselves over Trump. But my view is they have every right to exist. They represent a large maybe the majority view of American lead. Opinions my gripe is there so that their alleged opponents the liberals have adopted their foreign policy views. I mean, just think about Samantha Powers' who was in Basseterre to the United Nations. I mean, she was a needle con, but she was a liberal Democrat. And everywhere you go today. "Know, it's Kentucky's played in cold already this year. But you guys played it feels a lot worse when you're behind doesn't it. Scoreboards worth about ten to fifteen degrees. Well, Jeremy I've been talking about how it's important for Kentucky to get off to a quick start today. And as silly as that sounds if you don't get off to a quick start. You got the faint the home ground getting on you. And then you got the cold weather. It's not a good recipe. Well, I could tell you this that thirty yards away from the Kentucky band is the Tennessee band and two thirty three. They fired up. Rocky top of the first time. It's nauseating. So. Earlier this week talked about that the concentration that this team has on the road is very good. And that he a few distractions and he likes that about this team. So are you seeing that this trip and does this team seem different this time on the road? Well, I think this team seems very businesslike and I'm watching warm ups right now. And they do seem like, you know, they've got their heads down. And they're ready to work from what Tom lease tells us the one off day in practice, and I don't mean took the day off. And I mean didn't practice as well as they might have it otherwise they were spot on because to a person to a man they've talked about not making turning one loss into to finishing with ten wins. And I don't know about you guys Christie. I liked that they're not supposed to talk about how many total wins. They're going to have. But to me that's the same. As saying we want to win the SEC went wanting to win ten games, especially knowing what happened last year. I think is something you should talk about. And they know it's gotta be one game at a time. They're not fools. But this goes back to the the maturity of this team experience at his team. I think they've earned the right to talk about that kind of thing in no way. Will they overlook Tennessee today? Well, sure, you're setting goals at the first season right things that you do what you want to get accomplished and you had to there has to be a map to get their win. But there's an unwritten rule how you don't talk about it. And all that stuff and shirt teams. You don't, you know, for how many years guys, you you guys walk down the hall in the training facility. And there was the entire schedule. But all the game is blocked off except for the one year about the play. Yeah. There you go well here. So here's a question for you did about Neilan stadium. Just wondering what you think is the most unique thing about that stadium easy. The orange checkerboard. You know when Kentucky started using a checkerboard a little bit. Oh, it's Tennessee's. Well, not really. I mean, a lot of schools have done that. But Tennessee, and of course, when they come out they run through the big t and the. Unspoken as the orange everywhere. And if you don't like orange, this.

Also, I don't know if you know, this big Randy has declared that you guys are best friends than you just don't know it yet. I kind of feel the same way. Well, I know he chose paper tiger for book of the month club, which I thought was incredibly cool and watching him travel around and stay in these Airbnb and stuff it really I'm getting flashbacks to Scott Ireland and Scotland and traveling like that with no money, and you know, showed up at some place, and it being a total crapshoot. You know, so I do feel like we certainly have kinship. There's no doubt. While for my part your book, of course, called Ireland is a huge motivation. And I'm glad that you can kind of see parts of what we're trying to do in that because having read that that was an is a huge inspiration for me personally, and this is gonna sound really corny, but really deepened my love and interest in the game ago. So it's one of my favorite books. Thanks, man. Yeah. Us posts. They're awesome. Maybe the best compliment that somebody. They can give or get is that you know, that anything that anyone does inspired their love for golf so that. Yeah, that's amazing. Thank you. Yeah. For sure I get a lot of I think even Kevin van Valkenburgh made the comment that that you, and I were maybe related in some way that you played one hundred seven courses in fifty six days, and you may have beat you did beat my pace from the summer of twenty seventeen which was the best summer of my life playing golf so going back all the way to Ireland. I guess I kinda wanna know how you got inspired do that trip. Explain to the listeners what that trip was had you ever been to Ireland and kind of what the whole purpose was of your first trip to Ireland. Yes. So the Ireland book grew out of a couple of things I've been going to Ireland with my dad and my family on these sometimes like family trips are or golf trips going over like looking for long lost. Motives not really finding any and then going golfing. And so I started going over since I was probably like twelve or thirteen and really like just had an awesome affinity for the place, and and fell in love with links golf over there. I played we were on a trip, and they said, there's this course, NS grown down the road and go check it out. And so that was the first links course I ever played. And it just you know, I've been playing golf since like seven or eight years old, and it just blew me away. The whole I'm like man, this is like a whole other thing. You know, it's it's kinda like all other sport. And I know idea you can kind of play golf, and that kind of landscape, so I just fell in love with it..

Some games coming up a little bit later today. Three thirty third Saturday in October, the old rivalry number one, Alabama and Tennessee, that's it Neilan stadium in Knoxville to a ton of low will play. Well, I believe it just starts in practice. You know, we we practice hard every every day of the week every week. Challenges us, but at the same time, we always go in with the mindset that we got to play for sixty minutes every time and really it's just up to the coaching staff to make that decision on whether you know, we're going to be in or or or not so low twenty one touchdowns, no interceptions. No passing attempts in the fourth quarter this year. Hey Heisman frontrunner, maybe the Heisman front runner. The three thirty kickoff. Time on CBS television. Big game in the ACC a battle of unbeatens five at NC state. The number sixteen pack against number three Clemson at death valley. The Tigers at six at memorial stadium and Clemson the site. Good matchup today at three thirty kickoff. Time number fifteen Washington hosting Colorado at three thirty number eighteen Penn State down in Bloomington against Indiana. Three thirty kickoff. It's Saturday night in death valley in Baton Rouge. Number five LSU at six and one coming off a big win last week. They'll host number twenty two Mississippi State and Nick FitzGerald number ten UCF at East Carolina at seven o'clock tonight eastern time number twenty one south Florida hosting Yukon seven thirty tonight number two Ohio State on the road at Purdue at Ross eight stadium in west Lafayette. Ohio State at seven and Haskins has twenty eight touchdowns this year for the buckeyes and a seven thirty eastern time kickoff number. Twelve Oregon at number twenty five Washington state big game in the Pac twelve both teams at five and one and then tonight in the SEC number fourteen Kentucky with a five and one record hosting Vanderbilt. Another issue in college football, Nebraska, winless, the worst starting they've ever had in Lincoln Scott frost is in his first year as the head coach they're looking for a win tonight in Minnesota. He doesn't want us guys to get used to losing last week. Sometimes I wish people could see inside the walls can see how good the culture is right now and how much it's turned and how much better it is. And how much the guys are banding together. The one concern I have as great as it was best practice ever one concern. I have is. I don't want the guys to get used to losing. And be okay with that game scheduled for three thirty eastern time today Nebraska in Minneapolis against the Minnesota golden gophers. We're in a weather delay in the college football game of the weekend touchdown radio. Michigan. The number sixteen in the country and number twenty four Michigan state the battle for the Paul. L bunion trophy is delayed by weather at the five. Fifteen Mark of the first quarter. Nothing nothing score. But they're letting fans back in the stadium. Let's go back to Spartan stadium for an update Brett Dolan NGO Terada. It is good to see him and beings reentering Spartan stadium. That is for sure at this weather delay before we catch you up to speed on a game that has not seen a lot of action at this point. You know, JP great job of throwing in some audio forest during this delay. We heard from just a media friendly guy. They've unleashed him. Just a little bit on TV in recent weeks, and and radio, I know it's early in this conversation would he be the front runner by all accounts for the Heisman at this point. I think when you can throw twenty touchdown passes, no interceptions. And your team is undefeated number one ranked in the in the country. You would definitely be a, you know, one of the front runners, if not the the main front runner, I think though that you know. You can be put in position it's up timber to win the award. I think you win it in in mid October to mid November. I really think that's the, you know, this is the the home stretch is, you know, conference rivalry games. Like, we're doing here. Michigan state Michigan. Alabama's got their schedule, and you know, and those tough conference games in the southeastern conference that are that are coming up. So I think that he's in great position as good as anybody in the country. But I think the game will be or the, you know, the trophy will be one the next six weeks. What do you think is competition would be collar Murray got off to a great start? He suffered one loss already Jonathan Taylor. Wisconsin kind of gets lost in the Wisconsin backs. Put a big yards in recent years. But aren't exactly household names. Are there are a few others right now that can make a step forward and the next two three minutes. I thought I thought of the players that we saw I thought Haskins a quarterback for Ohio State is is as talented as anybody in the country in his teams near the top. So he's going to have games you obviously rivalry game at the end of the year against Michigan to shine. I think washer genius took a little lump. But but will got some got some good numbers quarter. Back. I think that Bryce love faded a bit at times early Stanford. Not as as good as they were. I thought defensively I thought delta the defensive back at L issues. But one of the best players we've seen all season long doesn't mean he you know, he's gotta have a ton of interceptions and start returning to have a chance to to win the award. But at Oliver a guy that got some, but it's gonna be impossible for defensive guy to non power five. Yeah. That I mean, I I look at look at the the season and Dominic ensue had Nebraska's dominant any defensive tackle the history here. He and Warren Sapp where to two guys stand up top five in the Heisman. And have just you know, just great now standing season. I don't see. I mean, obviously, he's a great player. But I don't see him having that that kind of season nor those those big games that are needed. I mean, let's face it. You need to be playing in primetime and huge games that where you're trying to keep your team in in the hunt for a national champ. Championship grip went from you. And we were in the big house a few weeks ago talking about maybe a defensive guy trying to be in the mix for a high spin. And you brought up, of course, Charles Woodson who was honored that day. And you almost have to be able to return some kicks and do some other things in addition to what you do you have. Yeah, you have to be a if you're a defensive back. You have to be a ball hawk. You have to have you know, interceptions because that's the stat that people see as as the dominant stat from fan's perspective as a cornerback plane, walls, how many interceptions he have? They don't realize when you're that good. You're not throwing that side of the field. So you may still be good of a player. And then you're only going to get so many opportunities as a defensive back to change outcome of the game. You don't touch the ball outside of you know, when you get those interceptions. So you have to have opportunities to to impact the game. Whether it's, you know, punt blocked special teams, and or punt and kick returns where you know, the kick returns help Tim Brown and punt returns and and Desmond Howard as well. To to win the award has accomplished. We'll find out more as the season goes on. We're entering that. Phase right now late October ended November as you mentioned where people can win awards. They can certainly propelled. Our teams up the rankings certainly in the conference play for those those bowl berths and Michigan and Michigan state trying to do the same thing here. We'll see if too has a shot, you know, we had Alabama couple of weeks ago, and they have three former quarterbacks that have gone on to be in the pro football hall of fame, Ken, stabler Bart star. And of course, Joe Willie name it. But we'll see if might be able to win that that big trophy at some point. We are in baseball rain delay mode because we're in football delay mode here at Spartan stadium. Although we do have an update when we might be able to resume play. I believe one fifty two eastern time. We have still yet to see anybody is former playing standpoint come back on the field and start to get ready. Yeah. It's it's safe for the fans to be out here in the stadium. I I don't know if Michigan state wanted to delay this as much as possible after they allowed the fans back in the stadium. So they would have some home field advantage here. Whatever the people are that that are gonna come back into the stadium. But it seems to me I mean, the support staff is out there. They're letting fans in the stadium. It's safe enough to be out there to warm up and and to loosen up to me. I don't understand why you wouldn't be rush back out there and start warming up. Analysts get ready to blame him up and play. So there could be some gamesmanship involved in this as well. I don't know it just seems odd. I would agree if it's safe enough for the fans that means a safe enough for the guys to be on the field warming up. And if it's that why aren't they out there warm enough? I'm we're talking about is twenty-five after the hour, and we're going to wait twenty eight twenty nine more minutes until the until the start of the game. It it makes sense to me outside of Michigan state wants as many fans to come back in the stadium. So they can have some kind of home field advantage. That would be my guess, you might be right. And you'd think about Michigan state. They were on the football field and in full suit coats, not willing to wait for Michigan players to get off the field and clothesline and some guys in their walk across the field. And meanwhile, Michigan if they're and their locker room, which is probably tightly cramped without the amenities. You. I think if nothing else should be claustrophobic and want to get out just get out of that locker room since it's not raining and play catch do something to to get ready. Yeah. I mean, like I said there's sports stats out here for Michigan state cheerleaders have been out here on the field. They're they're getting loosen. Liber for the game. I'm not sure where the where the teens are why they're not being sent back out. Here comes here comes Sparty, the mascot. I mean. It's safe enough for the people that should be safe enough for them to to get out there and get ready to to fire it up. What was unusual when we were in the first quarter, and that was more than an hour ago with bright, sunshine. In fact, we had the sunglasses out and everything else. There were a large contingent of fans to all right outside the stadium that were not being let in and maybe I don't know. Maybe there are. But it doesn't even look like there are people at the gates looking for tickets to go back. I mean, isn't that has to be your concern is that when you're told to leave a lot of those fans, at least some even in a big rivalry where they paid a lot of money for tickets. You know, once you give people a reason to leave. You've also give them a reason not to come back while the multi hour rain delay against paying state this parking lot right outside the stadium completely emptied. Now, this parking lot is still about ninety percent full. So I think a fair amount of the fancier have state as we kinda see from all angles at least from the from the north and east and the south ends of the stadium fans are streaming back in here into the stadium. That's the one benefit you hope for a noon game is the fact that it's not getting into the evening. Hours where people give up on it. Because you know, we talk about the weather. Stop writing has man. That's good news because we may not be done with the rain or the hail or the sleet later on in the day. I think that puts an even bigger importance on trying to resume before the weather has too much of an impact in the game as much as we talk about the big ten weather because it's different than all the games were in the SEC or Pac twelve or others. What you do have is a pretty loyal fan following even in tough conditions. So now we'll test that just a bit to see if everybody returns to this. This rivalry game where they've been playing now for one hundred eleven times, and I'm guessing not many of those a feature day weather delay of any sort including last year when we played through a strong rain where? They did not stop play and the fans in Michigan stadium. Just wore their slickers. They hunker down took their beating we just continued on. TV? The TV guys are out here. We got the that's kinda interesting..

I had. No, I mean, I guess I grew up in a generation where the accomplishment have been sort of like to do to, you know, the MTV movie logo and human spaceflight was I think kind of taken for granted. And I thought Damian's instinct to just take a deep dive into the personal story of Neilan. Janet was really inspired because it opened up the trove of details, and this is extraordinarily story of of sacrifice and of people living outside of their own self interest for for some higher ideal. I think we wanted the whole movie to feel this documentary style. But also of the feel of home movies, these kind of moments happening behind closed doors, everything from Ryan sort of trying to stick his son into a freezer or Ryan cleaning the pool. But I'm with you. There they get by Stanford, which is not a foregone conclusion obviously. But if they win that game, they're going to be heavily favored without a conference championship game. And if they're sitting there, twelve, no, no shot that Notre Dame's not in the playoffs. Gonna be twenty twelve all over again because everybody you're going to have everybody keep coming up with these. You know, I remember game against and south bend. People were trying to come up with ways and Notre Dame could lose, and they just, you know. Shruti our way to wins and obviously came. Warren call. But guys, this, this feels that will see if he in book can do it again Stanford, but it just feels like a more competent more complete Notre Dame team than that team that was just finding ways with with. You know what I mean with defense and goal line spans in the ball bouncing their way. It just this feels different book looked crate, and they've got a lot of athletes around the quarterback position. That's why it's kind of a head scratcher there. So one dimensional with their hand tied behind their back. "In clinton hill nfl papa john's papa john's got rid of nfl no nfl drop papa john's pizza no no no no no john's pulled out yeah why because papa john's iota people that by our pizza don't fuck with his neilan flag we got some like talion pizza the pizza on well either way i gotta see i feel like it 'cause everybody's still pussy nowadays it'd be so much backlash shit cause roseanne roseanne can have to affects all the people that funded and the conservatives go rock with it and then all hate shit gonna talk about the to create this perfect storm yeah will it make money we'll be it's not only trump and household i think there's like a gender neutral kid in the household they're mixing things up but i think there's arguments within the house about it analysts conversation reality exactly at least there's representation admirable like for years this is so crazy representation matters and they gonna make america great it has any makeamericagreatagain hat on you can't say reputation matters then when somebody would have makeamericagreatagain hat eat them because they wanna be represented to i get it i see both sides and if the money's there you know how it is fuck is gonna chase it but that's what i wanna see i wanna see how people react to sponsored because i'm telling you that's what's gonna happen next you're gonna have those guys the people that are against that shit are going to be like boycott the sponsors that sponsor during roselle here's my question why would a sponsor sponsor show with two million people right when it could sponsor show with eighteen million clearly the eighteen million are the demographic that they wanna tap into over the two depends longterm because somebody's companies can have irreputable damage done today moran if they associated with the wrong shit if you stick by the wrong shit in this era you could have irreputable damage to your brand going forward because that's what trump in the white house.
