"Take that conversation we just had with Neil Smith Multiply it by 10. With the laughter and jovial nous, and that's what it was like a Super Bowl. We got to hang with him for a little bit just such so much fun in such a good time, and he's Man just so much laughter. You know, I didn't get a chance to make it out this summer. But, you know, usually I go out and hang out with Neil in Kansas City in the spring. We talked about going I know And there there are a couple of great barbecue restaurants out there. But there is this Great Italian restaurant out there that we get a chance to go to and man. I just love my time out. That would not know me. I love that guy, man. He just It just changed my whole idea about what football's should be, and he just made it even more fun than I thought it could be. Yeah, he was. You know, I spent some time in Kansas City before I moved to Denver the first time and when? When I was there. You had An incredible defense there with with the great Derek Thomas and in Neil Smith, and you talk about guys that were absolutely crowned like kings in the city of Kansas City. I mean, Kansas City fans loved those guys playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. And obviously Derek Thomas lost at such ii way too early. If a car accident and then you know Neil Smith coming to the Denver Broncos, I I was I almost said domain. You followed me here when I came to Denver, the second time. Is when ah is when Neil joined the Broncos and you guys went on a run? Yeah, it was. It was so much fun. You know there there, you know, Sometimes you just add people teams, too. Just make sure they're attitude that the attitude of the entire unit is right. Neil Neil was that kind of guy Rome owe Bill Romanowski was that kind of guy? Ray Crockett was that kind of guy. And you know, you need a foundational piece. Steve won't see that water for the defense with the foundational piece. I'm telling.

A pirate's life is characterized by voluntary interaction St- unfortunately, the crown prince's everyone into involuntary servitude landlubbers believe slavery was abolished years ago but the crown still claims to own us when it Christmas into service against our will given sufficient ambition. It would gladly draft thousands of hapless victims to kill or be killed. It's simply slavery by another name landlubbers are routinely commanded to serve the so called justice system in jury duty. But before you swell with civic pride, consider that how you feel is irrelevant to the crowned. You will appear as ordered or face punitive measures. The crown insists that you participate in your own oppression. Jury Summons provides pirates with a unique opportunity to obstruct injustices a jerk vote not guilty even if it's proven, the law was violated a juror can equipped for any reason at all and not even a judge can reverse that verdict receiving a jury summons basically winning the sedition lottery. But if you reveal that, you know this during jury selection, you'll probably be dismissed if the crown foolishly cramps say pirate into jury duty, it behooves the pirate to conceal their intention to nullify unjust laws. If he master takes one hundred percent of your labor it's called slavery. But if they only take fifty percent, they call it taxation a difference of degree not kind whether the crown claims a fourteen percent is irrelevant. Most of all a slave owner desires contended slaves meaning thoughtless ones and accept their bondage these house slave see no contradiction and being drafted in a ward in slavery or summoned to a jury to prosecute tax evasion and ideal slave knows no higher call than the masters will. "Just I'm not even gonna have man. You have to come in Big Alan Neil three on the way news radio tomorrow, you know the thing that makes nails so unique. With me is that I've had other great teammates on the defensive line, and I played with a Hall of Famer Ricky Jackson in San Francisco. I play with Tim Harris in San Francisco. Um, I play with some some great defensive lineman. What made Neil unique. Is that he was all about the whole team, and he was he was the most genuine. Ah, Southern feel That you can get. You know, I'm saying that I mean, you know, his mom used to come to town and make gumbo. Anybody. Everybody over everybody goes. The Neal House and No, we have catfish and gumbo. We sit around and just hang out their own Saturday before Sunday game, and it was just great, man. It just it just made. You know, He just made everything so easy. Even though he was a superstar when he got here, he just made everything so easy and competitive, competitive, the most competitive person I've ever been around in my life I still to this day. I still hasn't still haven't seen it happen since. What Neil Smith was kicked out of the Pro Bowl was which is supposed to be an all Star showcase amongst You know, the best in the league and you know, you kind of take it easier for awhile. And then fourth quarter. You ratchet it up. Well, Neil got kicked out of the game because, you know, ratcheted it up right it out. Somebody did something dirty thing was Kevin Gogan. Did something dirty, you know was planned. I think for the Raiders at the time. And I kicked out the game at the Pro Bowl. I was like, Wow, Did you get a fine at the Pro Bowl? I d. I don't know if he did. I didn't but Just just just let ultracompetitive man we haven't Neil having. Romo haven't Steve Atwater, Tyrone Braxton, As you know, the veterans on the team. I mean, those guys had More veteran leadership amongst those four guys, you know, like Tyrone Braxton, Steve Atwater, Neil Smith, Bill Romanowski, Ray Crockett. That team was just it was just a veteran team. You know, it was just It was great. I'm telling you, you know, we don't know how to you know, and what I was thinking about the Broncos as I was watching them play yesterday. You gotta learn how to win in this business. You have to learn how to win. And I just remember watching and talking to Brian Dawkins when he was here, and this is not the team that he thought that he was going to get when he got here when he signed as a free agent. It's certainly not What he thought was going to be. You know, he thought it was gonna have an offense that was going to be Anchored by, you know, a good young quarterback and Jay Cutler. I believe it was Jay Cutler. Then all of a sudden, you know, everything went left and the team was different. And then you know the whole circumstances would they were different for the guy who becomes a Hall of Famer here playing safety. And he just talked about You know you didn't You know, you got to discover what you got. Really? When you think you've got the right trigger man at quarterback, man As a defense, you seem to play better. And yesterday, Vic Fangio learn something about his team and I keep saying it His team is not a sit back and wait een know they're they're a blitz, and they love it. I mean, you can watch them play, they play. They play inspirational football. When God when pieces of moving well, it's It's like the whole team was feeding off it right. Actually, the defense right defense of sight and what Michelle Williams just said about you know, he got that first interception of the game. And then it literally was like it had a snowball effect from the defensive side. I mean, then they were just going after it and e. I always get a kick out of watching Bill Belichick or reading. Bill Belichick's press conference because you could just tell when he is fully irritated. And he was fully irritated at the end of that game yesterday, his press conference. I mean, he's got an offensive line where guys of being shuffled and playing out of position when he talked about that he talked about how they have no There's zero synergy right now, because they also haven't been able to practice. They were able to practice one time before they They played the Broncos. Um they've had a pretty tough go of it right. And plus, he's got some great players who know chose a sad to sit out because of the covert 19. Option that they had. I think they actually had the most. Didn't you think the Patriots have the most in the end the league as Faras players that decided to opt out due to Corona virus, and then you have A quarterback in Cam Newton, who also is trying to get some synergy with his guys and get into AA groove. And my goodness yesterday that did not look like the cam. New and unexpected that we were going to see. No, but you don't make excuses in.

If there's ever a problem just walked out on the balcony here, walk out. Put that double barrel shotgun and fired two blasts outside the house. I promise you is ever coming in is not going. You don't need a AR 15 It's harder to aim It's harder to use and in fact you don't need 30 rounds to protect yourself by shotgun. The president has a plan to move this country forward people's lives and livelihood. You're hanging in the balance. All the politics on Capitol Hill is being played in a way that I haven't seen and I've served longer in the Senate. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that all 13 people in the history of the United States America God, no, I don't feel that way. 1972 When Joe Biden was elected. that there once more fill and then I'll go out there every day of practice the move let me ask you this because you just mentioned something that not not a lot of people know about the NFL you mentioned that you could come back to the facility and go back and watch bill not play for the Cincinnati Bengals before I got to the forty Niners and I had never seen a locker room that was always open in the end you can walk in the front door watch me on with the forty Niners anytime that you wanted was it like that in Dallas when you got the Dallas yeah really yeah they kept it open for the players all all day long all day long really I you have a passcode giving and and and you know what that's what made that's made to different because you know someone it set a standard non goth not a student of the game like I used to I don't all the dance and all the all the acting yes I don't know I become clown show would not is not the game of football that I grew up with now let me ask you this you talk about that the flamboyant CEO of the in a bill today but the the thing about playing this game that I think is is is still the same is operative wanna play in defense of land plague in you know there's been a lot of talk about the forty Niners front for and how to get after the passer now this is what I do know when you were with the forty Niners as a consultant be still consult with them little bear when you came out to Denver when you what the forty Niners and you came out you are working with the defense of land being when you came to training camp you out there working with some of these guys that are now starting to pay some huge dividends what is the young the pantomime and how tough is it the transition from college to the NFL it's it's all about deflating that eagle they they think that they know everything they come in with no skill set and their refusal learn any of it and then they come in thank right right they don't know how they won't give you a warning they want to go with the first team you ate a whole lot I hate not all play out the haze the guy at the cowboys Warner I'm going Hey you've got because you know what you don't know your place know they do natural natural dog food and I have five dogs that he mobile flow from birth all the way up to now where they five six years old and and it's just a great product and not eight I just love the results I love the way my dog float and and and how active they are and then see on fear dealt third date date day also work with dogs service dogs for wounded wounded warriors so it's for me it's a passion for love and and that I don't I'm just happy I get up early to be able to talk about that the last thing I have for you in one of the real treats that I had as a former player was being able to go into the the college football hall of fame which you a few years ago and that was it that was a great weekend I got a chance to learn so much about you in and in about the one move that I could figure out and you finally told me how to do it but of course I was done playing football that orange red what did you learn some of these little because some of them you can't I can't follow where you found that on tape I know did you did it but I can't find it before you no I I I made up some stuff I I did that I called leap of faith would you go right at the tackle and when you're at a point to you Joe job leave your feet because that's gonna make him go forward right now you gotta do is take all twelve thirty your feet hit the ground you're going straight and he's going to sway so you can't turn the blog saw an end in all great man I've been trying to teach you the guys they they may get like it entered the harder they they try to make it it's just I want to take time out the simple five but I do believe that I can believe that simple you may do so when when of course I was done playing football but you're not could I couldn't catch you in San Francisco app you are retired Neil Neil flies in the see me stays at the house you know we just it just the the I love the guy love the guy man he's been a Big Brother type due to me since I was a rookie in the NFL that's how long I've known Neil Smith and I couldn't believe that we became teammates. he was always so cool me we gave me great advice and always was just a solid do played at Nebraska and with another guy who was it who's a Houstonian by the name of Broadrick Thomas dot Thompson Roger Thompson. product Thomas broader Thomas was I think the fourth the fifth pick in the NFL draft Neil was picked number two in the NFL draft and they used to hang out in Houston all the time and they just invite me to place it and then just make me part of the crew and I was just call with a man it was great it was great love that do man my my wife and I got married twenty six years ago and when we were on our honeymoon cruise Neil Smith was on our. she's playing for the Kansas City Chiefs at the time but there is no mistaking who he was big nine oh may big big too let's see here from five three five three eight guys I don't see Ben Roethlisberger ever coming back I don't even from elbow surgery I don't even I think you just took the money in April wait it you know to the season starts to see how you can die hi how you felt. but apparently Big Ben was having some issues in training camp and they start talking about leadership a leadership qualities and and whether or not he worked hard with the guy was hurt hurt but you know I think the money that they paid him you know he had earned that many years ago he still is not in the Eli manning category with it when it comes to money is being paid but the thirty four million dollars in signing bonus that he got was the Arnett already so this year there given that money next year he'll probably played sparingly and then walk away. sources say he does get it done he does get it fixed and he. because it but it makes me think of you when you when you had your Achilles injury hi you pretty much we're going to be done and I would just that was done by you but you use you still you had a Cup of coffee with the the norm and say it's my agent ma'am my must super agent Peter say for a little by the way is listening thanks for listening Peter. it's not every day. but it is a great story so. I was done I tore my chili's on October thirty first nineteen ninety nine hollowing. I stepped out and funders foot print. that's when that feel was loose and for whatever reason I stepped in and I looked around like who stepped on the back of my mouth on the back of my leg well I knew I tore it when I could move it up and down so I got up and I walked off the field I got to the sideline and not so great in the training staff as I told my Kelly's. they say well if you told your kill lease you couldn't walk. but I knew that that was my last play for the Denver Broncos I knew at the time at thirty one years old that was my last play for the Broncos I know how this league goals at that dinner party at least your career was ended with by thunder. that's what happened it was a different field yet concerts in the in the dating take care to feel like they do and empower them at mile high okay they don't they didn't they didn't have the same. I guess cruise or whatever it it does it it was just a freak deal and then my agent. once again Peter Shaffer called me I was just Hangin out I started a new company and I was just working at the company and he asked for a favor he said as he said Hey man I I'm I'm I've been getting phone calls from these teams for you to come and at least play I'm like I I'm I'm just I'm done and I'm just done I got the I took my Chiles I was up speed rush quick guy you know if you don't have your lower body you just can't play in this league so I do have a solid you know you said you know Mickey Loomis I think was the GM in it and him and Peter are really good friends agents and GM's become France's say would you at least go down to New Orleans for me. Joe Joe you're not gonna believe this story. I go down to New Orleans they are so I did a solid how do you decide I'll go down the New Orleans I go in first week second week third week what was the second week of training camp they were training camp for a week or so two weeks and one of my really good friends Willie roaf close all the fame left tackle and I played against Willie a lot of times he was like we got to go get it go get it go get it go he's with the chiefs for a long time see some twenty year right no no he was what the what the states when I was with the forty Niners. and so I got to play again some twice the and so we actually we actually played against each other then in the end so when I went down ma'am I worked out in the field okay my Achilles felt okay I'm like well if it feels okay then I'll go back home and then I'll see where I wanna go play football. and what happened I was in this little town called Thibodaux Louisiana. nine Thibodaux Louisiana is not a big town and they have like one major store in it's a Walmart they put me in a so I work out they put me in this hotel and Thibodeau and I tell them they base it to me well when the work I went great let's sign you to a deal and I was like well let me think about I want to go home. not so do weird Thibodaux Louisiana. there's not really a cab service for an airport nearby no no right so they help me in Thibodaux Louisiana for like twenty four hours me I didn't have a me what we did there was no there was no live to take me back to the airport because I think I came down there with a backpack I just went to work out the do my friend not my friend and my age in a favor so they keep me overnight I signed the deal you know I talk to my I was talking to my my wife and she said well we're not moving there I say I know I didn't I didn't ask to move here you know this is four or five months whatever it is and then we'll be done with it and so. I'm there and then so the next day they say you know coach has Lee was the head coach and he was like Hey man look man we just we just need you to come in here of be like a player's last coats and I was like all right I'll do that well that's it but I got to go home as I have to go home so I signed a deal and I went home I actually got on a big drove me back to the airport and I was at home for like two days and Peter common asked me was I going to go back. contract you signed a deal so you can get out of Tibet. you cited deals you can get home I want to go home because they will plan on the road they will they will play like a pre season game or something and so I just went home I just went home and I was like I don't know if I want to this on the web and then I got down there and I realize it my Chiles was not healed I did we have it the way that Emmanuel Sanders rehab he is he can't he won't he had every intention in the coming back I didn't have you know. I had no intention of coming back but this little town man I've been to the population as well it's seventy thousand eighty thousand and there's a college that they were at and it was so damn hot oh my goodness and then finally you know I've got to I was down there for two weeks and I tried to quit and coach has is a man look man we just need to stick around and you know be with these guys help me answer these guys and I got tears in my eyes because on my body is just not working the way it's supposed to work and then I finally say you know okay I'll stick around this is the first time I quit. and then the second time I quit in with the saints I have my brother to come in the middle of the night. in the middle of the night because we had broken camp and I told him to meet me downstairs yeah I didn't even say goodbye to nobody. I'll just say they did you get on stood at the New Orleans in Houston is only four hours away we went to Bourbon street had a few cocktails got a hotel room and draw back home I'm not a Houston the next day and that was the end of my career because they were gonna keep me and then I I knew there was as there was a guy on the team that was working his **** off I mean he was working his **** off to make the team as a defensive lineman and I knew they were going to cut that kit I knew that they were going to cut that you have to keep me an aging defensive linemen couldn't play at the same level so I I just I just said I'm out and they ended up keeping that key it. I don't know if he knows but I'm I'm the reason he made it in the NFL did he make anything of himself I'm I'm not sure I need to look you know what I know and we will be going to break we need to look to see if the guy made anything of himself I look at the final roster for. the mayor's name because you know one of the kids on the dean blog de is one a gallon team team was a Pro Bowl defensive lineman by the name of Glover and the reason I think has we want me to stick around because Glover used to always ask me Hey man how does Trevor Pryce look at this how did Neil Smith look it is how do you look at this and he does want he walked with me and did everything were made for the entire training camp and he ended up becoming a great great player in this league that's a great story I love the I've come get me come get me I'm gonna keep towns tears I'm not even saying goodbye we're just leaving they don't cut me until the last day for cut down and it was like a Tuesday or Wednesday I was gone for like three days before they cut because it kept calling like Hey you coming back to the check clears no no no text note this preseason cholesterol leisure six three oh three seven one three eighty five eighty five our techs line five six six nine oh it's big Alan Jo Jo on the voice of Colorado K. away..

"Eight hundred four zero five two five six one that's eight hundred four zero five twenty five sixty one. One. Freedom's the answer. What's the question? You're listening to Ernest handcock on, Dr evil. White cat comes and sits on my lap as I still row kit. Thank you. So, yeah, we're not spector here. Answer a phone or something. But the what we wanted to talk to in this final thing is where the future was, as, you know, the future of when you kind of check out if I was to do that. And I'm retired and on vacation, and I did that I'm going, yeah. Where's the sculling? I've been pretty clear. I been pretty confident about what was happening because back when we first started this, it was when our kids were little, we're going by the time, there are aged then in the late eighties, as when I thought I had a pretty good beat on what was going to happen. Well, when they were average are aged that was the twenty sixteen election cycle. So I was pretty sure what was going to have people rise up and Brexit and Trump and anti establishment of the media sucks. I get that them what I have no freaking idea. I was very clear. Clear villian up to sixteen and now I'm like. No. In the end, you know, the people always win. They the people, but I don't know how many shit holes are made or how many bomb craters you got mushroom. Clouds off to try and commits everybody why they need them, you know. But I pretty confident that the people will rise up, and I'm thinking it's going to come down to technology. That's why we have all this tech and each of the categories on pirates without borders and dot com. And when you go there, you'll see on the communication level, you know, when are you going to have satellite base network of, you know, they can suck it in on the business. Okay. That's here. It's just getting better and better and better. You have energy. That's, you know, these centralized, you've got a housing and food and people, you know, learning that dog be worming added to cannabis cures all cancer. And you think I'm kidding. You know, this is starting to come out. I mean, all this kind of stuff that they them though soup wres-, you find out they know they knew. But the grant was for making this mouse with cancer, not cured it. We get our grant on didn't pay us finding the gear. They know that kind of thing. So this is from my standpoint and kind of see are you seeing any over your life, reading bossed yacht and Gado, and all these kinds of things when the people find this stuff out, does it have legs, you see the future as being okay? What, what I see is? Little threads like. You're, you're a thread. There are others that are threads. But I don't see is. You know why, why can't I go downtown Sparta and go have a Cup of coffee somewhere and hear people talking about some of these things, I don't nobody talks about it. Nobody cares. Nobody's interested. I say nobody I mean, nobody that I from date on a day-to-day basis coming contact with remember l Neil Smith. He had this one sane. He goes. They're not woken up. Nobody's woke up woke up going to help you get whatever you want it, you go to the store and buy anything, of course, there will there, providing the free market is giving you whatever you want when you want he goes walking up. They say it will make some money. But what people are looking for is. They understand why and when things start going off the shelf, and it's Venezuela, the Soviet Union kind of thing you go. Why did that happen? Well, we're going to need to find out now. How did that what, what happened? I remember real scarcity land planning. There's a philosophy behind. There's a reason, and I think these people no they just don't these don't make the connection. They don't understand the philosophy. But when it's explained to them Tompkins was running for the local city council up, then they know Rick. What are you gonna do that? I'm gonna continue just what I've been retired on vacation. That's. Yeah, you know, there's, there's more and more, I think, to myself, things are so screwed up in this world in this country, you know. And in the whole world, really that I'm glad that I'm old and that I'm not going to last much longer. Deal with it. Yeah. I mean, I feel sorry for my children and grandchildren. My thing was, I mean, you may remember me always going on about this that, you know, all this effort, it was for the grandchildren because I knew my kids were, like grandeur children makers. You know, I always tell me, hey man, I'm raising you well and giving you a private again. So I don't have to be a parent. My grandkids. You guys take care of that. I get to play grandparent and it's worked out. Well, they're taking care of business, and the kids are awesome. So but for them, I'm hoping and my goal was is that my grandchildren would experience what's happening right now. Here comes and they would be part of the building, and the veteran off of all this crap. And they would benefit from the new world. Order of is not only make meet here all this stuff that you see happening. I don't see any of it. We Joe you, we live in completely different worlds. You don't see what my world is like, and I don't see what your world is. Like all the stuff that you're excited about. I can't get excited because I don't know about it. I don't hear about you really want to earn explain it to you going to be your show. You all the stuff probably not probably. But my point my point is what good is. It doesn't do any good because I might as well not be there. It makes no difference to me. Yeah, where you are here. This, this is beautiful. I had no idea. This was just I knew you win walkabout, and you impact traveled around the band because you're back, you always sleep in special recline, kind of chair thing that you set up in your van who in, you know, and so you got to go around do whatever you wanted. And, and you and your big thing was the Gulf tour. USA. Rick via golfing, we're gonna find the best golf courses. So how the hell did you wind up in the middle of the nothing here, we're dot come from well just from looking around one of the criteria.

"I play America, Mike. Good morning. Thanks for joining us. Our you great man. Thanks for having me. Yeah. Great to see an script to celebrate this. I can't believe it's been twenty five years, and I can't believe what you did to me, as a fan, by the way because I was just telling the story about how the first two series in that playoff run that you had you guys just pull the capitals. And that was like, all right. We go. This is our year. Finally, in that, of course, the devil's got your way Stevens and Daniken those meat heads over. So you had to deal with those guys. But you really the thing that, that I that I often reflect back on the two game fives against the devils and against the kenaka in Madison Square Garden. And just I can't imagine what that must have felt like after those games were over realizing what you guys had had happened to you. Well, I think there's always great stories we're just talking before we on the air about the Stanley Cup played last night and the ups and downs you see a widely being interviewed, and just talks about the adversity. You face you can't go two or three months in postseason hockey without basic, your Senator NATO once in a while, but you're going to lose. Lose you're going to have trouble. I think one of the things that really happened. I think you see with bidding the goalie and the Saint Louis blues, they seem to respond to adversity. They're in last place. In January first place overall, but they came back every time they lost the game, the back stronger, and that's part of the deal you have to have resiliency, and that's where we felt, we had a bit of an advantage York because we had veterans that have been through the worst, you know, he Bennington you talked about him. So he twice he gave up you know give a five goals in one game. And then another game, he got pulled where they gave up, I think seven goals or something like that. And I'm just trying to think like from goalies perspective, kind of, like I would think, quarterback, and also maybe even closer like Mariana reverse where they're going to be gains where you're just not on. But then all of a sudden there are the games where you are on. And you know, when your teammate says, I guarantee we're going to win came six and he puts all the pressure, not only on himself, but he definitely puts squirrelly on your show. I don't think people really understand how truly great that game was for you. Over in jersey, and what that must have been like look, these the jersey at that time, and you're we breezed through the first two rounds but there's always kind of skeletons in the closet. Right. We had to pay the islanders who have been we'd won one time that year the last game we played them. We are breezing through the season, but the islanders had our number. And then we beat them once like it, you know, a five four game. Sloppy game at the and then we go into the, you don't know what's going to happen. We ended up beating me at four. It was a war, but we took them in four. And if you look at a record going into that jersey series we are eight and one looks like we're unstoppable. But every games war every shift is a battle. And so you're gonna hit adversity and we separate us from jersey that year was one or two games. Right. I mean we only had a few more points than to win the presidents trophy. So that was an excellent. They were second best team by record in the league. And so, and they were veterans to so we went back and forth and you have to walk away from game. You lost saying that's a really good team over there, sometimes they're going to win. And always if he can just play game when you when you wake up the morning of games. I got the post in the, the daily news in front of cool. And, and your boy, Mark messy happens to. We're gonna win this game. What, what did you guys did you did you ever talk about? Oh, yeah. Yeah. The first thing we did was laugh. I mean March like, oh boy stepped in the story. And we knew it was coming from. You get your confidence rocked in a situation like that. And he was just saying, look, I know this team's got the capacity to. I know we can beat them. We just did two games ago. And. Yeah backs up against the wall. We've been here before we'll be fine. And just like he saw I in this season with the Saint Louis that there's going to be times where you're kind of question, yourself and everything else. If you go back to doing what makes you successful you should be. Okay. As Mark was doing. And I think we really did understand. But I mean you had to see it will walk into lock them guys. I hadn't seen it and you Neil Smith the GM and even the coach came back into smile like. Like here we go. And then you scrape it off and just go out and play. So, you know that, that you live in a little bit of a bubble you kind of put your blinders onto the media as much as possible. But the York it's you know, it's. Mark had been here for three years. And so he understood what the media was one of the reasons why he was brought here was for that specific percent. You know, I think we were tiptoeing around a little bit. Hey, we're good team. We can be successful. He's like, hey you gotta own this thing. We put up a picture of the Stanley Cup from training camp. And a locker room. Keenum was very big on that just saying, hey, if you think you can win this thing own. It don't sit there. Sneak around. You gotta say you're good enough to do it and marks embrace that fifty four year history and said, yeah, it's there's a lot of upside here, all the veterans seem to carry the younger guys along. And it was for Lichi and graves myself. Zubi. They were unbelievable guys to learn from because they had been to these wars multiple times. So it took a personality that come to New York, and so, yeah, we're going to do this, and he did. We're talking to former Rangers goalie Stanley Cup champion Mike Richter in studio on boomer and geo and the fancy Bs sports network twenty five year anniversary of the ninety four Cup. Now when we talk about players coming to New York and free agency with whatever sport baseball, basketball, hockey, we always say it was trepidation, because the New York media and the fan and the pressure. But if you win you are alleging forever, you have lived that you have lived that now for a couple of. Decades. What is it like living that being that legend who brought a championship to this city? It's the difference between getting the finger and a high five twenty years later. Definitely tests that, look, I mean, people bleed their sports representing New York, there's never been place to, to win a championship. I don't care where you, you pick the smallest city in North America. It's a great thing to do is win, but there's not a better place to what New York. I mean this is the place that year. We can, you know before the media that they have now, but we hadn't Lovie H s tape of the Mets victory parade kind of superimposed pictures and images of the Rangers and just help the guys visualize. This is gonna look like and I mean it gives you goosebumps. You can't help say God, what would it be like leaching I used to live on the Upper West side, and walk around. Can you imagine winning here, you know, for for the excitement that's in the locker room that's one thing. But that's what we just you could never envision it. When we left Madison Square Garden for that parade. I mean, the whole bus went quite like four buses going down there. I had no clue. It's gonna be that big. And it was a war of a crowd, and people standing at attention. Please bleeds with it, you know, and there's, there's just there's not more. Passionate fans, I think people do come here. Trepidation? Big scary city, the people. Unbelievable huge hearts, but they expect greatness, and they demand that. And that's, that's cool to be what was the one thing that Mark Messier did not shy away from there's no question about that because he had already won the cups and one of the greatest teams that the league had ever seen. So he had had that experience. So Mike Keenan comes in late in the ninety three season and. What, what, what does he see in front of them? What do you think that he thought he had to do in order to get you guys to where you ended up? It was the exact right guy at the right time. Okay. We had a really talented team that had won the presidents trophy the league championship years ago, then missed out on the playoffs as so you're, you're not fulfilling potential and it's like enough of coddling, we're going to get a genuine here, and you're either going to sink or swim. And that's exactly what came was. He had a reputation gunman. He didn't create this persona in New York. He he was coming in. We knew it, and we're kind of abrasive, he said, you better have enough motivation to demand that of yourself and not be scared of someone else demanding it, you better have more demand on your own than some of outside. So Kenyans get good. Make our practices were so intense and so hard in demand so high that games became a little bit easier. I have to say, so we just felt like the toughest opponent. We're going to have our own self keenum, and come in there. And you'd walk. Away from game say stopped thirty shots. He's like, what we do on that second goal. That was that was man man, and he would make you better you'd wanna kill him. But he'd make you better and so walking away guys wanted to is out, but he delivered championship and these friends this day I respect the hell out him for that is amazing though. He only he coached the later part of the, the ninety three season. And then all of the ninety three ninety four season. And then he's gone. He's gone. That was that was the craziest thing of all time. No, I'm still twenty five years later. I'm still scratching my head. I wake up and I just thought it would take so long as it did to learn how to win as an organization. We did you fear that you've got the formulate? It's, it's not secret you have to work your rear end off. You have to you have to have some luck you have to stay healthy as a group, you have two components in the way character, and we did. And when you think after that year and Adam Graves got married ten days later after the Cup. You know, he didn't know where you can go that long. It was like, oh my God. You went from one thing by the time we gathered in Toronto for his wedding service. Keenum's already gone. It was negotiating his release, then but and part of that deal was like three or four players leaving. And you say, you know, Douglas didn't play a lot of minutes. He was a huge part of our locker room. Jay, these guys were every single guy was missed if they left and the new guys coming in with great guys. But it was a different feel combined that the lockout, I'm giving you loud. She usually just saying that there's a lot of change occurred. I just thought we're going to figure it out. And then go for run of, like, you know, the islanders did four years in a row. And here we go. We've got a dynasty and, you know, it does make you think looking back two and a half decades later how lucky you are? How fortunate York because you've got almost catch late in a bottle when you look at Saint Louis and Boston are those two teams going to be in the finals next year. There's so much parody in the league you don't who's injured who's traded who has a contract dispute. It's hard to repeat just don't see in all sports now. So how do you feel about looking back on that Arab because bloomer was saying before this is a group that should have one more guys as Mets, you feel the same way under percent? We had a great young core and unbelievable. Veterans and mess. Had always talked to hide did it? They would bring in a young Adam Graves, or they would bring in somebody like a Kenny lensman from outside, and he had a of play. He was a puzzle PC, come there and do it, and they'd have enough refresh to bring a guy in without getting stale, but not too much change where it rock the boat too much. And that's a real. I mean. It really seems slats in those guys had it down to a science up there, and it was a little bit of a different era. There was less free agency and all that. Now it's very difficult to keep going. There made some they made some trades yet know when you look back in those traits okay for one year. This is great. For the long term Dougie weight and Tony Amonte. I'm thinking that these are your guys your age w wait. I'm starting captain at the time you didn't know how great they're going to be. But for a little while there before he won the Cup. You look around the Leo. My Neil Smith was saying we're the best form team for the rest of the league you. We would draft these guys develop them treat them at a young age and get some veteran who was on his last legs that guy's retired and you're watching wait, you know, when the scoring Jim right becoming the American, captain, the Olympics, tremendous guy to someone.

You hear deal? Joe you weren't supposed to early out as like that. I mean that was one time Joe couplets fan. He did say he was gonna run right back off. So he screwed up. Yeah. This weekend kind of word it, so. Yeah. I mean. I mean, I'm forty to to first of all because I don't think he can be Trump. And Secondly, there will be a lot of entertainment value there. Yes. Now, I think it comes down to him and Bernie probably in the end up that it's yeah. The two oldest. Yeah. The seventy six seventy seven year old who are going to be seventy eight seventy nine, but the election comes who do you think they would pick as running mates? Maybe the Beddoe maybe Beto in and Bernie would would feel pressure from their base to pick a woman or minority. Probably pedal is a minority because name is bell. I can't Hispanic obviously, go with Khumalo. Maybe maybe Biden Kamala, Kamla, whatever she would be up for that though. Being a running mate. So the front runner. Well, it sets up for next time. So it would be a smart move for her. I think. Triple eight nine hundred thirty three ninety three. Also, you know, not only are they socialist in their policies, but they wanna do things like eliminate the ice. They want eliminate the is department. They want to eliminate the electoral college betta was talking about this yesterday. Here's what he said about the electoral college. Electoral, college sport. I think there's there's a lot to that. Because you hadn't election 2016 where the loser got three million more votes than the Victor it put some states out of play altogether. They don't feel like they're modes really count. So if we really want every person in them, every reason we gotta make sure their boats county Goto the candidate of their choosing. So I think there's a lot of wisdom in that something we've talked about on the campaign trail in Texas in that last Senate race, you have fresh Mao a lot of wisdom in that. He's yeah. A lot of wisdom lot of wisdom there. So the votes don't go to who you voted for is that what he's trying to say. Well, he's saying that the popular vote should be the vote. So, but the problem is as soon as you eliminate the electoral college, there won't be a single small state that matters over. So you talk about your vote not counting. Just try to be a voter in Wyoming. Nobody will ever pay any attention to. They don't care the in the least about Wyoming. Montana or Delaware, Vermont. They're not gonna fly over states. None of these out of the way states with small populations to pick up a handful of votes. There's just no way they might spend, you know, a small amount on TV ad or two. That's it. Are you going to hang out in Utah with five electoral votes, or are you going to California with what is it fifty six or something fifty eight whatever they have now even Andrew gang of the Yang gang. The new kid on the block that apparently drawn crowds. I mean three thousand people showed up for him. He tweeted out the problem with deciding presidential elections via popular vote is that candidates would naturally campaign in urban areas with big media markets and their policies would follow suit better to have proportional, electoral college, votes state. So you campaign everywhere about that common-sense from thought that from. The Yang gang. That's that's impressive..

"Because normally these scrambling quarterbacks like Mahomes, like, you know, like that get hurt because they're out there running the did they got away with it in college because they were a man among boys college, they could get away with it in the NFL. You can't you get hit. And it hurts one hit. And that's why there's protect them so much. Because they have to because these new the new style quarterback is not a pocket quarterback. It's an outside the pocket mobile quarterback. Well, that means they get hit a lot more. And as a result, the look at the lifespan of most of these quarterbacks, it's five years tops. You know, the the way of Marino. And and all these quarterbacks who around for longevity, a bravery being the most recent anomaly. Yeah, they're just not around. That's why I'm so surprised though that Wednesday mariota get hurt so much and Braford because they were not scrambling quarterbacks. They were married. It was really he he ran a lot. Now. He wasn't. He wasn't no like as Vic style quarterback. Whereas he's all legs. Yeah. But he was a scrambler got outside the pocket a lot. And he wouldn't give it up. He wouldn't take the slide. Right. He would always push it like a good leader does. And then, but he always paid the price. He got nailed. Yeah. Do you guys think Nick foles just gets paid just oh, sure? Bring struck thirty. When the yes, he hits the market. I think he gets paid. I think it's pretty big time. And I'll tell you where he's gonna land. Please Washington Redskins. Oh, that'll be a good place telling you right now, they are they need a quarterback pad because I don't know if Alex Smith ever comes back to the league I've heard I've heard Denver speculated about as well Denver Denver's big. They love quarterbacks out there. But I just think quarterback I think they want them in the division because they know him they know him. So well, I've always seen that. I know it when the chiefs whenever we got rid of our great players, they always ended up on fucking the Bronco Oakland. It was always inter divisional. I'm like can't you go. Elsewhere. Why are you gonna play Davar? Neil Smith left the chiefs. And he went to the Broncos won two Super Bowls. Always bummed me out. Not not just me out that he was wearing another uniform course because he was a great great one. Yeah. They do it. Yeah. That makes sense. Usually don't want him in your division. But the coaches want them in the division because they play them twice. Yeah. Really? Well, anyway chiefs are Rams are in the Super Bowl. As far as we know. Totally the other. It won't be us. We'll be awesome. But it'll be it'll be. I know Gary like Email during the game. And I was like what Gary you can't during the game is like technically floor the before the game. And I said, good luck. And. Yes. You did. Because it was before. It is. But my my phone was blowing up, and I was like are you is this is this the first time anybody's ever been in the playoffs. No one know how this works. Demand radio. Silence. Do not a don't try to communicate with me during the game as a charger fan. I'm not accustomed to the playoffs. I apologize. Very first story on the sports report. Let's Rene per story says Tom Brady destroys Gary sphere and Consec whole bag of dish. I don't know what newspaper that's from newspapers from the Gary live fees. Never question where I get the stuff. That's cool heart factory. Stone. Cool cold fat, Jack, I'm getting to know all of your little sayings, and I'm really annoying. And people are constantly asking me like what does rob like crock? Oh, yeah. My friends who I met in Iceland. The Jason Kerry GE as it was like why is he single like what is? No. For a long time. Does he like schwarzen- hurry that you put the oven? Single PB and J. To be single like crop up. But cook food makes the house smell great. God, dammit. I can't believe only person who thinks this. By the only person. Is the best. Did you fuck? Hooper e people used to heat that up Kopri in the crock pot. No. Yeah. Yeah. Oh my gosh. Every house that's some silly shit. Right. They're Cussing a lot. That is so silly crap. Hola crop. Yeah. A good Rian and the heated up. Yeah. You put in the water..

"And and bring him to pets for I would solve a lot of problems right before the draft cause this is not an inside linebacker heavy draft at all. So I think that's the best way to do it quarters or nice. There's some lace quarters this year, Tony, but. I don't think I really don't see them doing it as well in the draft. Especially in the first round at inside linebacker. It's not as loaded as was last year. So what are your thoughts on off season personnel? Where do you see the making a bigger impact in the traff war going against the grain and going free agency? Say, you know, their their biggest need again, we have to be inside linebacker 'cause something that Jerry do that said something for the start of the season that still resonates me. He said when you're you're slowing inside linebacker your defense. So because you don't have anybody that can get the silent sideline and gets you know on down the middle on passing plays. And I think we saw a lot last year especially over the middle. So I like your idea of J Moseley at twenty it's hard to get those kind of guys, you know, even at cornerback. It's hard to get those really impact players. So if they can, you know, they're gonna have money like you said, they could if they could make a deal for Moseley somehow, someway. Be a traitor and come to his top rival, Allah Neil Smith with from the chiefs of the Broncos make it happen. And then and then you, you know, if you if you get a guy like that it's solves a lot because we saw Ryan says here he still heavy lifting for that defense. He covered up for a lot of lot of weaknesses. And after you need in the middle of that field. You need somebody that you cover up for quite frankly, lack of play make this in especially in the secondary. They don't really have guys they can make there impact players and secondary. They have it. They've done a lot better. Obviously Joe Hayden is a godsend in in a pro bowler. But even he's not somebody take over football game for you. So yeah, I think the number one need is a is inside linebacker. You know, something very interesting is if you're a guy like CJ Moseley Buffy Newsom, Donna, it's has retired. So you don't have to he can't really play the Alabama card on you. You don't have to honor that you know, you could. And I I'm sure that was he was a well respected GM other guys loved him. And he had that connection with Alabama which has definitely served that defends very well. So I too late of that. But I mean, that's going to be the truth. He doesn't have to. He doesn't have to honor his ties Alabama has much and he can go after the money. And by the way, the Neal Smith reference fantastic. I I don't think I would have pulled that one out especially when I completely forgot about that for you to does to you on the Smith. I love it finally. Coaching? We we've got to continue to talk about the Steelers coaching. There was eight another skill coach. That was a casualty of course last week. I believe it was Wednesday when Joey porter got his pink slip from. I know he was very close to Mike Tomlin. But he was he was relieved of his duties in Pittsburgh as the outside linebacker coach now today chain Saks in the running back coach which travel surprise to me that he was let go even though they had one of the worst rushing attacks in the game. You gotta think of what they lost. And what they lost due to injury with the situation. I think he was I think that's a tough one. I think he was wrongly scapegoated for that. But he's he's going as well in that happened today. Mike. Months could be gone, but that would be of his own accord so with faxing today, and let's let's put like months ACA side. 'cause like I said that's not the team's doing or the Steelers done making moves..
