Neil Logan stained. The Supreme Court will hear a case tomorrow challenging the legality of President Biden's student loan forgiveness plan. The goal of the plan is to cancel $10,000 in federal student loan debt for some graduates up to 20,000 for others, but the plan was put on hold in the courts by several Republican led states, Washington Post Supreme Court reporter Robert Barnes says some of the arguments tomorrow will focus on whether the president has the authority to forgive the debt. 43 Republican members of the Senate filed a brief saying, there's no way that this act was meant to relieve nearly a half $1 trillion in loan debt and affect more than 40 million people, that that's just something that a president can't do without Congress being involved and authorizing the spending of that money. Maryland governor Wes Moore is pressing lawmakers to speed up an increase of the minimum wage to $15 an hour this year instead of waiting until 2025. The governor says his proposal is going to take some work. He might have to do some jaw boning as lawmakers are reluctant to change the timeline. Neil Logan stained WTO pinu and arrest has been made in one of the two deadly shootings that happened in the district yesterday, police have now arrested 41 year old James Jones for the murder of 57 year old David Wright and 54 year old Nathaniel Howard, officers found the bodies of right and Howard inside a house on D street southeast near the D.C. armory yesterday afternoon. Jones is charged with two counts of second degree murder while armed a few hours after that shooting in northeast, two men were found shot to death along sheriff road just west of the Maryland border. It's two O 5. D.C.'s old emergency operations center used to be near the DHS campus next to the old saint Elizabeth's hospital in southeast. On the toll road itself, eastbound near route 7, we'd had reports of a crash, look for delays on 95, headed northbound after the Prince William Parkway reports of a wreck along the left side. Then we'd add activity outside a lorton that was beyond exit one 63. That last scene was over on the right shoulder. You're going to find we had some slowing on 66 east in manassas. Then again, in Centreville and passing 50 fairfax, there was a little bit of a slowdown on the beltway in Maryland, topside outer loop after New Hampshire to Georgia, inner loop, though, was heavier, three 55 to Connecticut avenue. There had been major delays on the inner loop riding into and through college park. There was actually activity was on the outer loop after the green belt metro station had been along the right side. Super slow traffic all the way back toward right around the interchanges at central avenue. Inner loop south of town, you've got delays approaching two ten as you head down toward the Wilson bridge. There have been reports of Iraq on the Baltimore Washington Parkway north up near one 97. You'll find I 97 north of near benfield boulevard. That's reports of a medical emergency, and we'd had an earlier crash that affected branch avenue down your suitland Parkway earlier. We'd had the left side blocked in both directions with the wreck. An update now on a personal story, many of you have been following Last November, WTO's new Augustine told us he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Today we can report that things are going well. This is the first CT scan I've had since I got my diagnosis and started treatment, which is called targeted therapy because it's matched to the exact kind of lung cancer I have. I just take one pill a day before I start working in the morning. The scan shows the lesions in my lungs are shrinking and the cancer hasn't spread elsewhere. My cough is gone, which was the only symptom that led me to getting screened for cancer in the first place. "Dealer. Three 40 here on WTO and some more breaking news this afternoon, a suspect has now been arrested in the weekend shooting death of a Catholic bishop in Los Angeles. Bishop David O'Connell was found in his found dead in his home on Saturday. He was killed just blocks from a church in the Hacienda Heights neighborhood that's east of downtown LA. O'Connell had been a priest for 45 years. He was beloved in his community back in 2015, Pope Francis named him one of several auxiliary bishops of the LA archdiocese. Authorities have not said whether the bishop was targeted or if his religion might have been a factor, were expected to get more information later on this afternoon. Students at Michigan state university are back in class today for the first time since a mass shooting on campus. Three students were killed, 5 others were hurt in that rampage one week ago. Brandon sim, he's a freshman. He attended his writing class, but how many students showed up? About half the class showed up. That's unusual? Yeah, that's unusual. Usually there's only like two or three people absent on a given day, but that was definitely a little unusual. I can tell that they were hesitant to come back. Does it make you feel? It makes me feel a little sad because I like engaging in the classroom setting with all my peers, but I totally, like I said, understand because it's a tough situation. An update now on the involuntary manslaughter case of Alec Baldwin, some new court filings in New Mexico show prosecutors have dropped the possibility of a sentence enhancement that could have carried a mandatory 5 year sentence against the actor if he's found guilty. The October 2021 shooting on the film set of rust left a cinematographer dead, the actor producers attorneys had earlier objected to the enhancement. They said it was unconstitutional. The amended complaint filed in New Mexico was made public today. Dog owners know their pet owners love to stick their nose into things. It's just part of being a dog. But if it ever becomes legal to smoke weed in public around here, that nosiness could really cause a problem. It's a problem now in New York City where you can smoke weed wherever you can smoke a cigarette. Pet owners are having to say leave it. Whenever their dog picks up the remnants that a smoker discarded. If a dog ingests cannabis, they can lose their balance. You can tell if their eyes are dilated. The New York Times reports a jump in the number of calls about marijuana poisoning to the pet poison hotline, vets can help a dog eliminate the toxin, but depending on how big the dog is and how much he ate, most dogs recover well. Now, these are preliminary findings, but researchers say an implanted device help two stroke survivors move their partially paralyzed hand and arm by sending impulses to their spinal cords.
