Rivers was 12 years old in 1963 and he told WTOP at this year's March that he was forever changed by the events of that year. I got committed and that every generation has to fight this fight. Reverend Rivers, the Vice President of Religious Affairs for the National Action Network, one of two groups that organized the March, says we keep must going. "That more and more people are getting sick with COVID. Some are even ending up in the hospital. Michael Correspondent George is with CBS News medical contributor Dr. Celine Grounder. The number of COVID cases is edging up nationwide. Hospitalizations jumped more than 21 % in one week this month. Vaccinations are up because COVID transmission is up. But who's actually getting sick enough to end up in the hospital? It's the elderly. So people really 70 and up are driving most of that almost the entire increase that we're seeing in vaccinations right now. A Hollywood studio and some academic and hospital settings are requiring masks again. COVID outbreaks have canceled classes at public schools in Kentucky and in Texas. We're expecting the next round of COVID booster shots to come in the next two months. The state of West Virginia is allowed to restrict abortion pill sales after a ruling from a federal judge. The makers of the abortion pill, Mifepristone, argued that West Virginia can't restrict a medication that the FDA has approved as safe and effective. The federal judge wrote in his opinion that the Supreme Court made it clear that regulating abortion is a matter of health and safety upon which states may appropriately exercise their power. West Virginia's Republican governor Jim Justice signed a near total abortion ban last year. We check in this afternoon with W TOP's Neil Augenstein. You may remember Neil was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer last November after taking one pill a day targeted therapy and surgery. Neil has been cancer -free since April and this week Neil says he had a scan of his brain. He tells us why. Yeah, Anna and Nick, it's fairly common that lung cancer can metastasize to the brain. That means that a tiny amount of the original lung tumor breaks off and stays in the bloodstream and eventually travels to the brain. So the MRI that I had on Monday was to make sure that wasn't the case for me. The MRI itself is painless, although to tell you the truth it's my least favorite scan. It's kind of claustrophobic and loud. Obviously it's important and so it was a relief when the results popped up on my phone showing no evidence of spread. It would go to up $8 .10 during off peak hours from $5 .25 to $6 .40. The company says this and future increases are needed to keep up with growing debt obligations. It says the state and taxpayers have made routes 7 and 28 into viable free commuting options to the greenway and that the company needs these increases to make a fair return somewhere down the road. "We need to be hiring people like myself. Other people with mental health backgrounds or just other various experience. This is the second recruiting class in fairfax county receiving a $15,000 sign on bonus. Several jurisdictions in our area have been offering those bonuses to increase hiring. Some say the land being developed by a brewery in Prince William county is actually a cemetery, and they want the Department of Justice to step in. Owner Michelle dewitt says two archeological studies have been done and no evidence of a cemetery was found. Last week, WTO's Neil augenstein told us he was recovering nicely from surgery after being diagnosed with stage four lung cancer back in November, and this morning he joins us with a very latest. You'll remember in December I started one pillar day targeted therapy to deal with cancerous lesions and lymph nodes in both of my lungs. Now a week after the lobectomy to remove the lobe where my cancer started, my oncologist tells me I have no evidence of disease. You've heard of remission. That's just for blood cancers, any day means the same thing for cancers involving tumors. There's no evidence of cancer anywhere in my body. From here, I'll keep taking my targeted therapy and have CT scans often those scans can see any activity down to millimeters, so if cancer were to occur in my lungs or elsewhere, it would be much easier to treat. "Outside the apartment building here in Silver Spring, loved ones remember 25 year old Melanie Diaz as passionate and kind. At school, she always had the biggest smile. I was left out. She would bring them into the crowd. That's Diaz's boyfriend who also says she was found with her jacket over her dog, Sammy and Ella. Diaz was in her 11th floor apartment when the fire started early Saturday morning. Lee came down less than a couple of hours after heavy equipment arrived at 21 FT. Bronze Statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Was hoisted off its pedestal by a crane. Within a few minutes, it was lowered gently to the grass of this park on Monument Avenue. Hundreds of people most taking photos and videos watched and cheered as the statue came down more than a year after Governor Ralph Northam ordered it be removed. And after months in the port and the decision from the Virginia Supreme Court, this monument to the Confederacy is now down in Richmond Mill Organ Sting. Double U K E L P new.
