How do I determine who a celebrity is or when you become a celebrity? I guess I was a radio celebrity in the towns. I lived in at some point was I really a celebrity? I see all the time online, all about the celebrity people, they talk about some of which I've never met before. Maybe we need to come up with a new term, new terminology for levels of celebrity. There are lots of internet celebrities. Are they really thought this is there difference between Fame and celebrity? I don't know. I'm just asking because all the time I look and see people talking about a celebrity, some of which I've never heard of, and, for the most part, even as old as I am, I'm up to date with all things going on in the culture is what I've been doing my entire life.

"And then like cuts to the two shot of Melissa Leo just being like well when the right there, right? Like, just the basic. She's like, yeah. Kind of. There's nothing you can say, that's that's obviously going to be continued to be an endemic problem that goes on like these are not people who do trust the police or people that probably should trust the police based on their experience in like. So when you know when we hear Frank in the box telling lane Staley. You know, I wanted to become a cop and be a good cop for our community. Like, he's doing the best. He can. But like there's only so much. You can do when essentially what you're just what your job is to preserve power. So I feel like the the episode did a good job laying that out. I thought Juliana Margulis was charming the months stuff was dumb. But em I ever gonna vote against an episode where a bad shitty cop goes to jail. All right. So Sara mention these sort of the play quality to the presentation of this show. Always find that hard to digest efforts. Like, I'm always sort of. Oh, yeah. Right. That's this show sort of taken aback by a takes me a little while to acclimate to it. That said there's one actor in this episode that takes the caliber of it to such heights to such heights that even more than Andre brower does when he slams debacles lies lies lies. I have to give her some sort of a ward, I don't know what that is. Maybe it's just a homicide the overacting award of the week. But she's one of the people that they canvas. And when I mean Atari lived in New York are upstairs neighbor who always used to bother me for tech. Help was like a law and order bit actor level actor in New York. And I always imagined. This is how she would act in. A TV show because she always was like even like little things about the computer. She would talk me always seem like way over the top. Like, I tried to get my Email, but I couldn't date. Jennen Rony she's trying to win a Tony for living dramatically. We already heard this person in a clip, and I just wanted to hear it again have not come to find out about that phone f- come up. I mean, everybody else in this scene is angry. But speaking normally there's is she's a doted anyways. I really whips out like a plastic skull dislike. Belong. God horribly. I'm not sure what I can add everybody else has an already said except that anytime that Ned Beatty is on the screen all I can think about no matter what. Acting is we go Otis..

"I kinda love his delivery of that line though. It's just kind of like I'm in a single engine plane with Ned Beatty and they're spraying DDT everywhere. Fuck it. I'm on the wings of demon. Like that's how I flew this before. I don't even give a shit what you think of me. It's like I am so far gone. It doesn't matter anymore. And that's one of the scenes where I love it. It makes me laugh. But it's also a moment of such like genuine sincerity where it's so it's become such a part of who he is that he just like blurts it out without thinking is gonna make me sound like a nut job. I think at this point in the movie, he's so far beyond worrying about whether he's a nutjob that that's the kind of release I aspire to in my life. You know, it's just kind of like I really want to get to the point where I'm just like fluid on the wings of a demon, and boy are my arms tired. When you hit your forties, you just. Don't care that much anymore. You're just like, yeah, you wanna hate me. I flew on the wings of demon, just assuming I don't care. They don't like my movie. Yeah. Okay, fine. Go away. I'm gonna make another one. I don't care. That is pretty much didn't tire spirit of this film. Probably the reason I love it so much, I guess talking about Christopher Walken going back to him. The other thing that I found interesting is that he and Louise Fletcher would be an another movie and other scifi movie with crazy headwear in was a brain scan. Just a few years hand free storm brainstorm. Thank you, Douglas, Trumbull, directed it. And that's a very interesting movie. Actually, we could go in a whole tangent on how they shot that. Did you did you do episode brainstorm yet? Not yet. That's a good movie, like because there's a lot of behind the scenes, like the whole thing where he was gonna shoot the the head trips in sixty frames second or something like that, or forty-eight frame seconds. Like I'm ex. Yeah, it was like forty frame of second seventy. Milimeter and the rest of the movie was twenty four frames second thirty five millimeter. So is going to be crazy. And then MGM unfortunately balked at the last second. But that would have been amazing. I would've loved that. That would have been so cool. And we talked about the artifice of the film and what's neat to me is that kind of self referential stuff going on in the movie talking about because you know, I don't know if we necessarily, you know, you said it and I don't know if we necessarily like really hammer this home. All of this African stuff is shot on a sound state. So like I mentioned that American cinematographer article, and I think the one of the lead things is like, will I, we created the sun and so that that great shot of Burton standing in front of the sun when he's looking for Kokomo is like that's a fake son. That's an artificial sun, and it's just amazing because it looks gorgeous that if you look at that shot out of context, like in the American cinematographer. It looks fake. It looks like a spotlight on a scrim which is exactly what it is, but if you see in the movie, you're so in that dream state because the movie has gone into this weird place where all these weird like when he goes to Africa and all the miniatures of the golden city and the steady Cam shots. And we should probably talk about the steady Cam because this was one of the very first movies that use the steady Cam. In fact, I think it if it wasn't the first movie that shot with a steady Cam, but wasn't the first movie that was released with the city that was bound for glory. It was one of the first movies they use the steady Cam and the shining was another one which was shot. I think just a few months after exercises to shot, but it's very dreamy and trippy and you and you see shots that are motion stabilized now and you almost take them for granted. But in the seventies when you saw that shot of like running through the African village, like the POV locus shot that ends on James Earl Jones, that never could have been done before that technology that shot that never could have been done, and it really..

"I do think it comes down to his physical presence. I think that's a huge part of it. When you have an actor who is that comfortable with his body as an athlete, and as someone who knows how to use it the way he clearly does not only as an athlete, but as a stuntman and he does stand out compared to so many other Hollywood actors. Like by the time, you get just five years down the road of smoke in the bandit. He's a lengthier figure. He looks a little bit more like the cowboy. He's playing their here. He's still got that athletes physique and he towers over everyone else in the movie. And it's funny because I heard Wesley Morris talking with Bill Simmons on Simmons podcast about Burt Reynolds and Wesley made the point that you can sort of breakdown his performances though. At some point, I think he went with the mustache and never left it, but there are those performances that are mustache performances in the non moustache lawns. And as you would expect, the ones with the moustache are the ones that are more like bandit. Were they ask him to be a little bit more gregarious a little bit more. Charismatic have a little bit more swagger and it seems to me that deliverance is in a way an outlier or it stuck in kind of that in-between because he is a more thoughtful and philosophical character at times. But he undoubtedly has the swagger we know from early on in this film that these people shouldn't be on this river. There are all sorts of signs telling them to turn around and go home. And the only reason they stay is because they're being led by him. And if we don't believe that as viewers, if we don't believe in that confidence and that swagger of Louis, then the whole movie falls apart. Jon Voight was a bigger star at the time coming off midnight cowboy. He certainly as a character here, his character is asked to do more and more his story. Yeah, absolutely. I would argue that the best acting if I have to single out a particular sequence, the best acting in the movie is. Ned Beatty, and it's after that infamous sequence, you want to talk about smallness and stillness, his ability after a scene where let's just say he's been raped by a mountain man by what they call a hillbilly redneck up in the woods. He is raped by him and afterwards when they're discussing what they're going to do in the aftermath of some violence that's occurred. Some violence that was brought on totally by self defense. It's really subtle. It's all silent or almost all silent. He says a couple words, but man babies able to convey the shock he's in and the way he sort of outside of himself and he hasn't fully processed what is occurred and it's going to take awhile. I think that was really for me the most devastating and the most effective bit of acting in the whole film. But Reynolds, certainly here we were seeing that stillness and his ability to recognize that he had that physical presence on screen, and he understood what the camera would do with his body onscreen and that he didn't have to act. Really at all. Yeah, just real quickly about eighty. 'cause you're right about that sequence. He also layers. Anger in that quiet. Yes, sand a shame found so many see a newfound tendency for violence that you feel he possibly never had before and that suddenly now part of him and him trying to figure out how to handle that in that moment is really something. But yeah, as far as there's a great moment that speaks to the physicality of Reynolds performance that you're talking about and it's early on, I think it might be after they've navigated their way through some early Rapids and he just stands in the canoe like conqueror. Yeah, I think I wrote Tarzan in my note, you know, no one, even even the most experienced outdoorsmen you're not supposed to stand your canoe, right? But this is his way of saying, yeah, I know this isn't the expert way, but I can handle..
