CNN Bans On-Air Drinking During New Year's Eve Broadcasts

"Again, one of those shows that not exactly what you signed up for, but it's Monday and that's the way it is. Also on CNN, I watched the history of sitcoms. The other night oh, by the way, big news. The head of CNN. Chris licked, my told you is going to do great things at that network. He's still making sweeping changes. You know, he got rid of Brian stelter as we know, the guy who also the guy who was jerking off during the Zoom call, Jeffrey too, but he's gone. He took Don lemon's prime time shell away, and now he's really changing things. It was announced that there will be no more drinking alcohol during CNN's New Year's Eve broadcast. Doesn't Chris lick no, that was the only reason why any of us tuned in to see Andy Collin lit up with Anderson Cooper who could barely handle a shot. We used to have a drunk Kathy Griffin with a lot of fun people, Don Lennon was loaded, dancing, it's fun. Give him one day a year to be assholes. Well, seen in their assholes, all year long. But you know, one day is not that big. But no, he cut it out. No more alcohol. So I'm watching this show, the sitcom story, you know, no show ever, ever says anything nice about rosemary. You guys know rosemary. I don't think all of you do. You might act like you do, but you don't. Those of you under 40, 45, probably have no clue. Rosemary was great on the Dick Van Dyke show. She was married to Maury Amsterdam on the show. Van Dyke was something you always want. And he'd walk in and trip over the sofa, a little cushion, and it got home and had his Martine. It was one of those shows, whatever. It was easy viewing, you hear the dogs? just as loud. But rosemary at 5 years old, she was offered a 7 year contract and became a radio star at NBC radio network. And then she made a bunch of films. At 5. Could you imagine what her me too stories were about? I mean, she's dead now, but could you imagine the stories she could tell you about running around desks and who was trying to nail her? This is back when women were secretaries and housewives on librarians. I also saw a bunch of stuff how great to watch Ed Asner as Lou grant on the Mary Tyler Moore show, saw a clip where he got all hot and bothered by Mary's friend, wrote a morgen star, remember Valerie Harper house I loved rhoda. Rona was like before Laverne on Laverne and Shirley. Before Laverne defazio, rona Morgan stern was the first girl on a sitcom that, as an Italian kid, or as a city kid, you'd go, I mean, I grew up a Long Island, but I still had a little bit of Brooklyn in me. You see that girl and you go, oh yeah, that's my cousins. That's our Friends. I know wrote a Morgan stern. Jewish or Italian same thing. Laverne de fazio, same thing. I didn't grow up with Cindy's. I grew up with Laverne's. And I grew up with rhoda's not Mary Tyler Moore's. And it was wonderful to see her because then you said, oh my God, there's a chance for all of us to get work. It's a lot similar, it's very similar to what black people felt when suddenly they thought to appear. There are people began to appear in sitcoms. You know, build caused by was huge and I spy and it made them go, oh my God, we can do this. One of our own is there. So I get that. But there's one part where Lou, Lou grant walks around rhoda as she walks into the newsroom. And he goes, you, you're different. I like you. Then he goes behind it, and he says, I like it from back here too. An old Valerie Harper can say is, I think he's about to kick my tie is what a different world. Thinking back when I was a kid, I had no idea that kind of talk bothered women. Because I saw my mother and my sisters laugh at those comments. So how could any of us think that what they were saying was improper? You know what I mean? And then Betty White, they showed Betty White. I know Betty White way older than me, but I can't explain it. I had a crush on him. I remember being a teenager. And thinking, you know what? When I never married, it would be great to be married to a woman like Betty White. Look at that dimple on her left cheek, you can hold a couple water in that dimple. She's so funny. She loves her men. I just felt like Betty's the best. And that was a kid. I was right.

"O R Alright, 11 minutes Now, after five o'clock, we'll get our weather in just a moment we're gonna bring in NBC radio national correspondent Mike Bauer Because Apple has a big announcement today, and we may be getting a new iPhone morning like Good morning, Joe. Yeah, it is their their annual fall announcement. But this particular time, a bigger phone battery that lasts longer, a diagonally shaped camera system and maybe even double your phone storage. Those are just some of the latest rumors about what Apple may announced during its closely watched media event today is happening at one P.m. Eastern 10 AM Pacific words expected to reveal the latest iPhone lineup, which could be for new phones. The iPhone 13 many The iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max, they may also introducing these are some of the rumors that are spreading about new airpods, the earphones for your iPhone as well as a new apple watch and something related to augmented reality. But what you're seeing when you see some of the videos on social media for them getting ready to stream through California. It kind of highlights this brand new version of a camera system that they have, which could include portrait mode for videos as well as Astro photography. That would be support in order to take pictures of the night sky. So it's a brand new technology that might be included in some of these newer phones there and keep in mind when you're talking about these new level levels of technology that are getting put into place your job that also comes with a price. So with this, it's very possible that Apple may be raising the prices on their iPhones, which I know shocker to absolutely nobody because it seems like every time they come out with a new one. There is a new and hard, higher fee for this, But this does look like it could be one unwelcome update this year. Higher prices Possibly when you're looking at specifically the iPhone 12, which was the last phone they had You were talking, pushing prices of $1000 Plus for a phone. This may be a higher charge for these iPhone thirteen's depending on what we hear today, you know, they keep saying, Oh, it's got a better camera. I got to tell you the camera I have and I have a later model is fabulous. House get better well, in this case if you've got the ability, and that's exactly I think it's more like for those really in depth and intricate photo users or video takers. People who are making movies on their phones or if you're doing a lot of in this particular case, this astro photography being able to take pictures of the night sky and the stars and the planets. All of that adds a different element to the level right and that's where you're starting to get to maybe into those pro cameras. Where you're going to pay more just for the ability to have that kind of thing. And in this case, if you're making movies on your phone, you're going to have the ability to get a terabyte storage option, which is double what you're pros. Maximum current storage would be in the phone. So if you're taking those videos, which take up more space, you have the ability to store it for a little while until you can get it on your computer to make that movie. Okay, well, what about the chips? I know there's a big chip shortage in the world. Is that going to impact Apple? It'll That's That's one thing that they're saying. We're going to have to keep an eye because there's a lot that they're looking to change your possibly faster processing as well as the storage there and then you go. Well, What about the chip shortages that going to be an issue, So we're going to have to hear if there's going to be any bump in a delay. Usually when they have these kinds of events, they'll tell you You know they're either immediately available for order or they will be available for order in the next 24 hours. When you can get expect that to be either Get to your house or pick it up at the store kind of a situation. This may be a bit of a longer delay as we're seeing in some of the cases, perhaps for the watches and or the ipads that it might be a delay and that delay may be coming from a shortage when it comes to these chips, so we'll have to get more details when they have this this video Virtual session at the Apple complex there in California later today, All right, Thank you. "The pandemic is affecting our deficit. That's right. The Congressional Budget Office estimating the nation's deficit Said, has reached $2.7 trillion over the past 11 months of this fiscal year. The agency's estimation, is $295 billion, less than what was recorded for the federal budget deficit for the prior fiscal year. During the same period, revenues increased by 18%. During the same period, the CBO attributing the majority of spending increases to policies implemented in response to the ongoing covid 19 pandemic. Some folks still scheduled to get federal government's weekly unemployment benefit checks. That's even though the program expired on Labor Day, But NBC Radio's Joe McConnell says they won't be new payments per se. And that's not going to be going away anytime soon. That's according to economist John Rutledge, talking to CNBC. Rutledge, who played a major role in Ronald Reagan's economic plan, says the covid waves will likely shut down ports. That's something that's already happened last month as the world's third largest board in China was shut down because of the coronavirus. He added that port closures, along with a lack of supplies and materials are having a global impact, attributing half of inflation to the supply chain troubles. And you should probably start planning on spending more on heating your home this winter. That's because prices of natural gas are increasing and are showing no signs of slowing down. Prices have doubled in 2021. That's due to a shortage of the resource, an analyst for Goldman Sachs, noting a colder than usual winter could drive up the prices even more than we're already seeing that, in turn, will increase consumers, heating and other utility bills that require natural gas. "So, the president says, we're done. Everybody coming home by the end of next month in Afghanistan, says he's not sending another generation to Afghanistan. Michael Bauer of NBC Radio News is here. To talk about that He's been following this story, Michael. I appreciate you joining us this morning. So the president had a lot of things to say yesterday. Tell us tell us what he said. Joe. He said that this was going to be an earlier than expected withdrawal from the troops from Afghanistan is saying that it would be done by August 31st. Initially when he came into office, the goal is to have it done by September. 11th Anniversary The 20th anniversary. Of Afghanistan's invasion and with that that was something that had been delayed from when President Trump had negotiated this deal with the Taliban, and it was supposed to be done on May 1st, so there's been some delays in all of this. But even at the end of this, it's earlier than the most recent expectation. And even as an emboldened Taliban is threatening Kabul of despite powerful temptation to postpone the draw down just a few more months, which would surely lead to another year, which would Joe probably lead to another several years. President Biden is winding down. War. Nearly 20 years old, a war wrap up that President Trump began the process of closing down. Back in 2019 2020. Biden urged the Afghan government and Taliban to come to a peace agreement. We know that the two sides have been talking and they've been discussing exactly that, so we knew sooner or later, there would have to be a moment where the U. S would say the Afghan government must And on its phone to beat. Some are saying it's already the later point of that right now. So the United States, according to President Biden went in to do what they set out to do in Afghanistan if the terrorists who attacked us on 9 11 And deliver justice to Osama bin Laden, he says. We did not go into Afghanistan to nation building that what we've seen for the past 20 years is an unwinnable war. That he said does not have a military solution. So there's no real answer on the military front for this, And then, as you pointed out, he doesn't want to send another generation of Americans to war in Afghanistan. As he said, with no reasonable expectation of achieving a different outcome, meaning than where we are right now. This is the best situation that we would have at hand for Afghanistan to step up and take over their country on their own from both governmental and military standpoint, So I think most Americans seem to agree that you know, at what point do we We're spinning our wheels. At what point do we get out at the same time? I think there's a reasonable fear that we could Forward, you know, fast forward two or three years and we're essentially right back to where we were before 2000 and one Yeah, There's there's certainly a concern about that. We know that that is that is something that the Biden administration is concerned about. There will be some support there on some level will be financing there to make sure that Afghanistan can keep their air force operating. But largely the Biden administration says the Afghan military has built up more than sufficient capacity to defeat the Taliban. We know there have been unforgiving, radical Islamist rule out there, but also they have a great opportunity here to work with the Taliban to find some level. Creating peace and that's what he says they have to do. Does he trust the Taliban? Biden said No. But I do trust the capacity of the Afghan military who's better trained, better equipped and more competent in terms of conducting war. He also looking at and reaching out to neighboring countries to help on some level Turkey and other places that may be able to assist.

World moves to embrace vaccine passports

"Of a vaccine passport. Before you can travel was gonna closer Look at that. Joining us now, NBC radio national correspondent Rory O'Neill. Good morning, Rory. Good morning, you know, and it's trickier than you might think trying to navigate these waters because who sets the standard and what about your privacy concerns as well? And even if we get these vaccines rolled out, it's not as if everyone has access to them just yet, So it's a case of have and have not. You know what vaccine passport would essentially show proof that you've gotten your vaccine. That what kind of form doesn't come in? Is it something on your phone? But if you don't what if you still use a flip phone or eyes, it's something that will go with you is you travel from country to country, and who else would require it? You know, we've seen in the Israel that more than half the country has already been vaccinated, and they're using vaccine passports, toe let you access the local gym or to get into movie theaters. They use it as an inducement to open up more things to you so that if you get your vaccine, it's more of a reward and you can show proof of it. So exactly how these vaccine passports will work what standards will be set still up for debate around the world. Well, The other thing, too, is so in other words, if you don't get a vaccine, you can't travel. I mean, in fact becomes the law, right? Right. So that's another issue with some people are allergic to the vaccine and can't get the vaccine. What are they supposed to do? But, you know, vaccine requirements are nothing new. If you want to go to some countries, you need a malaria vaccine. And you know, they will have that requirement when you enter the country, So we've done this before. The question is, this vaccine just isn't as available as of malaria vaccine. So how can do what kind of a restriction are you putting on now? Airlines and hotels are doing their own thing. Some of requiring vaccine proof in order, let you fly their airplanes or check into the hotels. We're all expecting the cruise industry will require proof of vaccination. But again, what does that look like? Is it on your phone? Is that a piece of paper? All these things we get to be settled in the may be done piecemeal, which is what is the worst thing possible because that would just create lots of confusion. Well, we're used to that.

Takeaways from the Senate hearing on Washington, DC riot

"Faulty intelligence and band communication lead to the breakdown of security during the capital riots. A hearing about the rights underway on Capitol Hill is good policed on that. Joining us live now, NBC radio National correspondent Mike Power Morning, Mike Yeah. Good morning, Joe. You're looking at former U. S. Capitol security officials telling Congress and enjoy hearing yesterday that they did not have sufficient information ahead of the January 6 attacks in the Capitol to accurately predict The scale of the attack. You had testimony from former U. S. Capitol police chief Steven Son, House sergeant at arms Paul Irving and Senate sergeant at arms, Michael Finger and all of whom resigned their posts after the Capitol siege following request from top leaders of both parties. But you also heard from U. S. Capitol Police captain Kardashian Mendoza, who's been with the department 19 years and said that that day January 6 was by far the worst of the worst. In terms of events that she has worked over the past two decades. And clearly what the messaging was here was that while they felt Capitol police and others felt they were prepared for an event, it doesn't sound like they had any idea of what this event was going to turn into. Capitol police chief Stephenson said. These criminals came prepared for war. They came with their own radio system to coordinate the attack. They came in climbing here and other equipment to defeat the Capitol Security features. At all three former capital security officers agreed that the January 6th attack was planned and coordinated. It involved white supremacists and extremist groups. And they did not get enough information from the FBI about it if they got any at all. In fact, some of them son it was there was indicating that he hadn't heard anything about FBI intelligence indicating that this could evolve into something bigger. Harsher greater than what the expectation was, until literally yesterday. That's when he heard about about to be fair. He did resign after the jet the January 6th attacks. But he said during the time there, there was no preparation that based on the intelligence, they believe that they met the threat that was they were prepared for, and now they know they had the wrong plan. There wasn't enough of the information coming from the FBI, even though the FBI sent a report the evening of the attempted evening before the attack detailing various calls for violence next day, but those never got to the proper people, according to reports yesterday. This is kind of strange, because even before this rally occurred, there was word that the National Guard was rated standing by in the National Guard was offered. So I mean, you know, uh, somebody was prepared. It seems like there was a head's up on some level or or maybe that's the worst case scenario thought like, Let's just make sure we've got that kind of back up, ready to go. But even then there were concerns over apparently optics as to whether or not the optics of having a national guard. There was something that was a concern whether or not there was a call made early in the day requesting Help from the National Guard has had sons. You said he made a call at 109 P. M. But you according to Irving, he said he didn't receive such a call. So now you've got senators going, okay? Let's get phone records to verify that somebody made that call at 109 asking for National Guard help and what happened or what their confusion was on some level immediately afterwards because that could be a big indication As to why the guard didn't get out there quick enough clearly for the situation, so there is still more investigation that needs to be done. I believe that there's going to be another one of these coming up next week that will be greater detail That's determined what happened with the National Guard on some level, but at least at this point in time, the indication was Capitol Police didn't have all of the information at their disposal to determine Whether or not this was going to be his violent as it actually turned out, already

"Getting by on that stretch of roadway, but do look out for the crews on the scene route 36 north on heading Into London Avenue. Our next traffic updates coming up in 10 minutes on seven cent. W O R. There's no 5 11 in just a moment to check on the weather forecast, But let's bring in NBC radio national correspondent Mike Bauer and He's been looking into this UK variant of the coveted virus. And a lot of concern about that big question is, Will the current vaccines protect us from this morning like Yeah. Good morning, Joe. That's the big question, And that's where we're sort of unclear. We had had initial indications that this UK variant, which is also known as the B 117 variant, I'll never remember that. But that's what they're saying. It's officially titled It is one of the mutant strains that we have in this country that is seemingly much more susceptible to being spread very easily. It is. The mutations do not change fundamentally the way the virus spreads, But masks and social distancing will continue to be effective. But this happens to have more droplets that we're talking about droplets being spread when somebody coughs or sneezes. There's more droplets in that causing it to be more transmissible across the country. And now we're seeing in 28 states, this particular UK varying. So the question is, are the vaccines taking care of it? Well, we had initially heard it looked like five grand modern of both were saying they felt as if there it was effective again. It's the UK very. That doesn't mean that it completely stops it. It doesn't mean that if you get the injection in the inoculation that you are clear and safe from the UK variant, in fact, what we have heard from the UK themselves is that people who had taught Tove it and seemingly had had the antibodies in their body. After going through what they went through with Cove, it We're still able to catch this UK variant, So there's still a lot of questions as to what kind of ability these vaccines have. And that's why you're seeing places like visor like modern and begin the process of creating boosters. For some of these different variants, be a tuk very into the South African variant. They're working on getting boosters pulled together to try to help in the fight against these variants. But the thing is, is that in the meantime, it's spreading fast again. 28 states. That we know of here in the United States that have this and it's continuing to grow quickly. In fact, you had a study that was put out yesterday. Not yet Peer reviewed and published in the journal. But it seems to indicate the same information the C D. C had given last month, which showed that the variant would become the dominant one in the United States by late March. And so the concern is is that this is going to pick up the pace. Overtake the covert that we were familiar with here since March and become the new strain from this point forward, So that's the kind of growth we're looking at right now. Florida standing out of the state with the highest estimated prevalence of the variant at this point in time and leads the nation reported cases, But they're saying that this report includes the variant has been 35 to 45% more transmissible Joe than the other strains of the virus in the United States. That's how prevalent we're talking about this kind of a big bump. It's not good news, is it? It's not and again until I mean the good news from people like Dr Fauci, and what you're hearing from the bite administration is we can fight this by getting those inoculations doing everything we can to kind of stop the mutations, but it's got to get those vaccines out. And we've got to get them into the arms of people. Even those people who are anti vaccine is not really interested in getting it If we're hoping to tap this thing down, all right, NBC radio National correspondent Mike Bell we thank you, Mike. "Jonathan Strickland, Ivan, executive producer with Howstuffworks and I heart radio and love all things Tech. And before I jump into what is going to be the main focus pun intended for this episode. I want to mention something about RC A because we're continuing our story. Well, Arcia And something that happened Darcy in 1948. That was the year that Howard Hughes would by controlling stake in RKO Pictures, the motion picture company. And also theater chain are CIA had purchased a theater chain and created RKO specifically in order to get a foothold with its optical on film sound system. So if you listen to the earlier episodes of our CIA, you remember they went so far as to create an entirely new film company. In order to establish this technology. Will that being done now? In 1948? They no longer saw necessary to keep this motion picture company around and sold off. The controlling interest to Howard Hughes, someone that I should try doing a full episode about in the future, but that is one Complicated cat right there anyway in 1949, David Sarnoff, the man who was the general manager and then the president of our CIA. Would then become the chairman of the board of our CIA. He also remained on as president of the company. So he had unprecedented control of our CIA and Sarnoff, you may remember. Had a bit of a reputation of being something of a control freak. Someone who really wanted the company he worked for to excel, and he greatly resented anyone who appeared to stand in the way of that. Well and the previous upside the most recent one, I talked about how our CIA was a pioneer in consumer electronic televisions, and how the U. S government forced our CIA to spin off one of its two NBC radio and television networks. Which would become ABC also remember, CBS, the third of those of the big Three networks in the United States actually grew out of a talent agents failed attempts to get his client's booked on NBC radio shows, so we are now in an era in which we have three broadcast giants. NBC, ABC and CBS and NBC and ABC. Both came from the same company. CBS came out because no one NBC would hire this guys. Talent. Interestingly, so television is slowly starting to pick up And as I mentioned at the end of the last episode, Arcia would push a new innovation in the early 19 fifties, which was color television. At RC A. Wasn't the only company working on color TV. CBS was also very much in the game. Both companies have been experimenting with color TV strategies since the 19 forties, and it was a CBS engineer who seemed to win. At least at first. Now I want to chat about this for a moment as well, because the system that this guy made was truly amazing, and it was the dependent upon a peculiarity of human biology. We have what some people refer to as the persistence of vision. This is the same thing that makes animation work for us animation or or film. If you're looking at a real film, you know, like something that's actually Hosted two photographic film. Is just a serious of still images. If we play those still images back at a fast enough speed, we perceive what appears to be movement. Even though if you were to slow it down enough, you'd see it's just a Syriza's still images. There's no actual movement happening. The human eye and brain can process about 10 to 12 separate images per second and can retain an image for about 1/15 of a second. So if you have an image, and you replace it with a new image faster than 1/15 of a second You can create the illusion of continuity of movement from one image to the next. Now a common term for this is the persistence of vision and again. A lot of different illusions depend upon this is it's this limitation of our faculties. And a guy named Peter Carl Goldmark, who was a Hungarian born engineer who immigrated to America and then would work for CBS would rely upon this peculiarity to create an early form of color television. And his system was an electro mechanical system. Inside the television was a color wheel with red, green and blue sections on it, and both the camera The television camera and the receiver or TV set had a color wheel. The wheels, positions and rotation would match precisely and the wheels would spend at an incredible 1440 times per minute. That was the speed of rotation. So the light coming into the camera would pass through this color wheel, which would kind of act like a filter. So remember earlier when I mentioned and the previous episode That an electron beam would make 60 passes over a screen in a second, but it would only hit the odd lines on one pass and the even lines on the next pass. Those individual passes are called fields. So if you had all the odd lines, that's one field all even lines that's a second field to fields make up a video frame. Because then you have all the lines. Then you have all the lines that make up the entire picture. So that's a video frame. That's standard wouldn't work for the color images in gold marks system because there would be noticeable flicker from the different colors. If you were only doing this At 60, really, really. 30 frames a second, It would actually end up being closer to 20 because you have two divided by 31 for each color. Instead, Goldmark would increase the field rate to 144 fields per second. Instead of 30. Each color would get scanned twice in a second, and the number of frames or complete images shown on screen would drop down to 24 frames per second instead of 30 frames per second. Goldmark decreased the resolution of the image from 525 lines to 405 lines. Which means you're making the picture smaller. And the reason he did. This was because otherwise he would need a lot more bandwidth per channel to send that much information to a receiver. Anyway. Because of that persistence of vision these colors while they're technically changing very, very quickly, our eyes and our brains can't keep up with that. They can't distinguish how those colors are changing so fast from red, green and blue. So we perceive a mixture of those colors and thus with a combination of electronic and mechanical elements, Gold marks approach allowed for a color TV, and it gets way more technical and psychological really, to describe exactly how this works so that you represent all the different colors. But this is the basics of how the system worked. By the way side note. Goldmark was also in charge of the team that would develop the micro groove technology that would make 33 a third rpm long playing vinyl records possible. And since our CIA had previously attempted to market 33 a third rpm records, though they did not do so with a micro groove. I suspect Sarnoff felt Goldmark was a thorn in his side. After all, Goldmark had created a new standard for color TV and a new standard for records. And son of wasn't really happy when other people took the lead or other companies took the lead. Our CIA had its own version of the same sort of mechanical color television approach. They had developed. There's independently of gold mark, but the CBS version provided a better picture. And so in 1950, the FCC made the CBS approach the standard for color televisions. Temporarily. It was only temporarily the standard. So if you've listened to my earlier episodes on R C a, you know that David Sarnoff wanted to be the leader and all things and he was fiercely competitive, and I suspect he was very much infuriated that the FCC would choose the technology of a rival company. Actually, I don't have to suspect he absolutely Woz because Sarnoff led a crusade against CBS and the FCC. So R C A and another company called Color Television, sought an injunction against the FCC's decision to go with the CBS standard..

"To be ironed out, Joe, But you know something? Certainly we could look at for maybe Tuesday of next week, maybe a little accumulating so far. Very, very good, right? Have the weekend. 5 33 star time President Biden's has helped us on the way, says the vaccine rollout Up to this point has been a failure, but he's implementing a plan to turn things around. Get into this mess overnight. It's gonna take months for us to turn things around. But let me be equally clear. We will get through this way We will defeat this pandemic. Biden is set a goal of administering 100 million vaccines in his 1st 100 days in office also outlined a plan to safely reopen schools. Any return Dr Anthony Fauci to the White House poetry coming in with fresh ideas, but also some ideas that were not bad ideas. With with with the previous administration. You can't say it was absolutely not usable it all. So we are continuing, but you're going to see a real ramping up of it. And in a mission admission from Fauci, he admitted that working under President Trump was difficult. Right now. The big problem is a nationwide shortage of vaccine. It's forced Mayor de Blasio to cancel all first dose appointments in the city through Sunday. Well, there are 300002nd Dose is arriving in New York City now and with the first dose supply running out, the mayor continues asking the feds and state for authority to use those second doses. Prevent more appointments from being canceled. So for everyone who saw an appointment rescheduled. I feel for you because it's not fair to you. It shouldn't happen. But I also believe help is coming soon. The help he is referring to is the Biden administration who the mayor has been on the phone with the Bellagio says 15 vaccination sites remain closed until the supply of first doses picks up. I'm Scott Pringle, double the O R news. State vaccine sites are still open for now. But Governor Cuomo says the state is going to run out of doses today, and he says he can't buy it directly from vice not licensed to sell. It's a very limited federal approval. So states can't buy. Private individuals can't buy. All right back to Washington. President Trump's Senate impeachment trial continues to hang over that city when it will happen. We're not sure could be pushed back next month, they could start right away. Let's get the latest on that debate. Joining us live now NBC radio national correspondent builds them for Good Morning Bill. Hey, Good morning, Joe. Yeah, This is something to keep an eye on because it could make this impeachment trial linger on a little bit, And what they're talking about now is perhaps a two week delay in the start of the trial. This would give Congress and the Senate in particular more time to get the cabinet positions in place to get more people confirmed and the Biden cabinet. And go about that business. Also, maybe get some work done on the pandemic relief and recovery plan that Joe Biden has put forth so they want to give the new Senate and the House of Representatives a chance to get some work done before. Yeah, we got we got an impeachment trial coming up for President Trump. But Joe that could be the least of his worries. Believe it or not, because all during the Trump presidency, Of course, we had heard the legal opinion that a sitting president could not be indicted. But not so for a former president. So, as you well know, there in New York is where it's centered. We've got the Manhattan D a working on that case. We have the New York attorney general working on that case, the Southern District of New York. We have defamation lawsuits by two women against press. And then Trump lawsuit by Mary Trump accusing Trump family members of cheating her out of some of her inheritance and a possible tax evasion charge that could come from the federal government and the New Biden administration. And how about the possibility the U. S Attorney's office in D C could come up with charges related to the January 6 riots at the capital. So I would suggest that President Trump work in a little time around his golf rounds to have some legal consultations. He's going to need it. All right. Thank you. Bill. "7 10 w O R. It's now 5 11 will check our weather in just a moment. President Biden getting to work on his first day in office yesterday, and we also have the former president facing an impeachment trial. So how's he going to handle that? Let's bring in NBC radio National correspondent Mike Power Mike yesterday The president said he wanted to unify America and heal and Is he going to go for a better impeachment trial in the Senate for President Trump? What he's saying is that he believes that the Senate will make the right decision in whatever it is that they're going to do regarding the impeachment of President Trump. We know the House has already impeach President Trump. It's now in the hands technically of the Senate once those articles of impeachment making over from Nancy Pelosi's office, which they have not yet and there is sort of this belief that while you've got a new president while you've got a new president, who is looking to have New Cabinet members installed and other approval from Congress as far as people that will come and work for the Biden administration that if you moved right into that Senate impeachment, according to the rules and regulations of the Senate, you have to spend every single day Monday through Friday. Basically, Monday through Saturday Sundays you don't have to, but Monday through Saturday, every single day in trial mode, trying to get this impeachment trial over with Andre put behind you before you could do any of the rest. To the duty of the Senate, so that would also include making sure that there are positive confirmations for some of the people that Joe Biden would like to have an office. That's where part of this problem is coming into play. Joe Biden doesn't necessarily want to say one way or the other, what the Senate should do. He's holding confidence and what they will choose to do, But that's going to be the big question is, when are those articles of impeachment going to make their way over? Could be as early as this week. I may not be. Maybe that they Democrats are hoping you'll get a couple of confirmations in the important ones anyways, before you move onto that and caused the Senate.

"How are we going to survive? Let's get to NBC radio National correspondent Mike Power to find out You know what's that? What's in store for us without a trump? Well, and I guess in New York, you'd be able to move around a little bit better because they're going to start to get the security released around the Trump tower there and and things are going to shift and change. But, yeah, you're going to see President Trump making his way off with what he's hoping is going to be a military style. Send off from joint base. Andrews complete with a military band Red carpet walk, flanked by troops possible flyover by Air Force fighter jets. According to what we're hearing White House reporters, saying that Trump's plans may include plotting revenge against Republicans who supported his impeachment and possibly a brand new party that I think he at least according to some reports. They're pointing to registering something on Twitter for the Patriot Party, and whether or not that's something president Trump will be moving towards eyes a question here. But beginning today, he's just hours before Biden supposed to swear in and technically movin down Pennsylvania Avenue, President Trump will be leaving to go to what is believed at this point in time, our Lago he definitely, according to the one listing on his schedule. Today, he and the first lady are leaving for West Palm Beach, Florida, So that would be an indication that that's where he's headed towards. But from there, there's gonna be a big question as to whether or not he can stay at Mar a Lago and for how long because there have been people talking. Out how in agreement going back to 1993 the president Trump made with the town. It turned Mar a lago from a home into a private club and that unless as a member, you're only allowed to stay there for 21 days of the time, so there's all kinds of questions as to whether or not he's going to be able to stay there long term, how he'll be able to do that, And then from there did he turn his attention to television. That's one thing that he's been talking about is having his own media network on some level this while he's coming up with what his defense will be for his Like an impeachment trial in the Senate, and if he is going to be able to pull together what he's calling this new party, this Patriot Party, which I have done a little research on and joke. Interestingly enough, there was a Patriot Party formed back in the 19 sixties that lasted all the way through the eighties, when an American Socialist Party was running. They were part of these Social, the Socialist Party as well as the Rainbow Coalition, and it was formed. After the United Front against Fascism. In other words, something today you might refer to as an antifa type group is what started off the Patriot Party back in the sixties. So President Trump may be trying to take that over and create a whole new party to show GOP members. They shouldn't go against the guy that was president when they came down to what happened two weeks ago in Washington, D. C. All right, thank you. Mike, NBC radio national.

Thank you Write this portion of our first morning news brought to you today by caring professionals Well, Democrats were ready to impeach President Trump for a second time. They're gonna vote today after Vice President Mike Pence rejected a resolution. Calling on him to remove the president using the 25th amendment. So that sets up a vote today an impeachment House speaker Nancy Pelosi, calling the desecration of the capitalist stain on our history and says President Trump has to be removed. President of the United States incited a deadly insurrection. Against America that target the very heart of our democracy. This Temple of democracy, the United States Capitol. Another question this morning is how many Republicans will support this effort. Let's bring in NBC Radio National correspondent bills in for with a closer look at that. Good morning, bill. Morning Joe and they Momenta Miz Building for Republican support for impeachment. While just one Republican voted with the Democrats on that 25th amendment resolution last night, we expect many more than that. Already. We have five Republicans who have publicly stated that they will vote for impeachment, including The number three ranked Republican in the House of Representatives lives tiny of Wyoming, also a central New York congressman, Ted Upton, along our John Can't go rather dead. Republicans have privately said that they will vote for impeachment. Last time around last year. At this time, there were no Republicans who voted for impeachment in the House of Representatives. And maybe Maurin impactful is the news that came out in The New York Times last night, saying that Mitch McConnell is now in favor of impeachment as a way to quote purge. President Trump from the Republican Party. Now what does this mean? As far as a Senate trial goes, Could Mitch McConnell decide to call the Senate back into session before the inauguration of Joe Biden? Or will he simply uses influence in the Republican caucus in the Senate to maybe improve the moment? "Or in government in general to see how they were doing in the over any concerns for their health and well being. But at the end of it all was still trying to get people to protest the vote. So the belief is is that he? His rhetoric did escalate. The situation did inside the violence. It's very difficult, very difficult for you to tell the people who are hunkering down and worried about their lives of getting home to see their families that that didn't happen on. You're starting to see that sort of a reaction here that Mitch McConnell's case. I think you know, he and the President haven't exactly been on fantastic terms for the entire four year President Trump's term, But at the end of the day here, I think you're seeing Mitch McConnell, who says Look, There's just a couple of days left. I wouldn't have to talk to the guy anyway. I haven't been happy with him. Maybe this is something that he feels if there were space savior if you will for the Republican Party. This would be it is sort of separating surgically. If you will President Trump from the Republican Party. I don't know if that is possible, but it's something Mitch McConnell is talking about that very day, Joe the morning and the evening when they were getting ready to count the votes. He wanted to make it clear that there was a clear line between what he called Republicans and the party of Trump on this seems to be hopefully in his mind's eye. If this is going to follow through A surgical removal of the two. Yeah, you know to me, That's what this is all about. I think the Republican Party would like to excise President Trump here, get him out of the discussion. I don't think they were happy with him from the very beginning, but he was powerful. We got a lot of votes and mobilize people. And if you take him out of the picture, then you know the Traditional Republican candidates would then emerge. So all right. "Get to our weather in just a moment. Let's bring in NBC radio national correspondent Mike Bauer talk a little bit more about this impeachment effort that will happen in the house this morning. But the thing that's interesting to me Mike is the comments of the Senate Majority leader, Mitch McConnell, The Republican is protected the president saying he's happy he's being impeached. Now. How do you interpret that? Well, I think you're seeing a number of Republicans sort of make that shift as well. Right. You're you're seeing list chain. You're seeing a handful of others, including Lisa Murkowski, who had said between the riots of last weekend today that she wants Trump to resign. She wants him out. He's caused enough damage. You're starting to see Republicans who were in that mess last week at the riots in the capital who heard the broken glass who were they felt their lives were on the line. But first the Justice Department continuing to announce more arrests of high profile capital rioters and Joining us live to talk more about that is NBC radio national correspondent Mike Bauer. Mike I guess the question is did was there a knob jek to buy this crown? I mean the gold that they want to overthrow the government. They want Take hostages. Do we have any idea what their main plan is, or wasn't a smudge organizations? There's an indication of according to what we're hearing from law enforcement that have been conducting arrest here and and been putting names on the list, as well as pictures of people that they're not sure the names but Trying to get the information of those individuals is that not only did these people have different ideas and beliefs throughout, but what you're hearing from some of the people and what we saw on social media going back into the mid December even before Christmas on some level was that this was going to be a deadly day for people in Congress that you are seeing threats that this was going to be a mass execution of Congress that in some cases while people on social media were passing around maps of Washington, D. C. There were other people who are passing around maps of the tunnels of the basement of the Capitol, and some were talking about how they were going to be able to stop Congress from leaving any sort of exit is from the capital. They imagine that this was going to be the day that they were going to be mass execution of congressman again. It depends on what kind of social media you're looking at to what extreme these people were actually going to go to that level, or if they were just all talk. The question is still out there, but generally the belief here was there were people who were making threats to kill them. Anti Pelosi. There were people who were clearly chanting about Mike Pence and whether or not they should hang Mike Pence going into the capital. All of those kinds of things were happening now, whether they were gonna follow through, it's impossible to tell. Thankfully, they didn't get the opportunity to do that. But at the end of the day, there were all sorts of levels of violence that were talked about on social media as to what was going to happen, and what's further. Joe is that there are still people out there on social media and some of these right wing worlds. They're talking about doing something similar. Come the Joe Biden inauguration. The Hope here is that certainly law enforcement the FBI D. C. Police Capitol Police will all be more much more aware and cognizant of this When it comes time for that inauguration on January, 20th. You know, Thean inspiration came from ah, much more organized and goal oriented section. Yeah, I mean, it's kind of it's kind of done haphazardly. I mean, you don't really you have a number of different smaller organizations that seem to build up to a Hey, we're getting word from President Trump that come January 6th world invited to D. C. That's the day. That's the day that the big rally is going to happen. That's the day that this is all going to go down that there were people who were coming to D. C Anyway on January 6, But once Trump said to be there, they interpreted that call as a call to action, and that was their marching orders again. I think you're right as far as the mental stability of the majority of them, But the reality is that physically they turned out they were there. They were there for a reason They got into the Capitol building. They tore it apart to a certain extent, they hurt people. To a certain extent. It wasn't what possibly their ultimate goal was. Or maybe it was a plan along the lines to do every step of that there were Of allegedly some ports of social media. That kind of indicated a plan on how this was all going to go down when you don't have necessarily one, I guess leader that you could all point to. Everybody's got their own plans, but there were plans out there. There were plans from people is to where they were going to go. How they were gonna get in how they were gonna block off tunnels. It's just seemingly not as organized as least to this point lost law officials believe All right. Thank you. Mike, NBC radio national correspondent. Mike.

"nbc radio" Discussed on 710 WOR

"Coming up in 10 minutes on 7 10 W. O R. It's down. 5 11 will get to weather in just a moment. Let's find out a little bit more about the certification of the presidential election results. Joining US live NBC radio national correspondent Mike Bauer. This drama with the vice president Mike is going to be interesting to see how that plays out. He says. He's no authority to change things. President tweeting today. Well, he could make me the president. Yeah, That's an odd thing to tweet because it seems unlikely that that's the case. I mean, largely. This is a ceremonial move today in regards to the counting of the votes. It's really a place where the vice president gavels in and then from there, it's opening envelopes, reading off the state's votes and then largely, that's how things get shut down, Gavel out and and you announce who's going to be the next president of United States, So there's really nothing to this element of what seems to be Mike Pence can save the day kind of in a heroic moment here. That doesn't seem very likely. I mean, get out. Old school wooden boxes. It's about to begin. But the certifying of the next president of United States could lead us into possibly even tomorrow. Joe depending on how much these people who want to protest have committed to protest Ng for President Trump will do exactly that. Now. The way that this is expected to happen is under federal law. Today is the day Electoral college votes. Determining the next president are counted. Starting at 1 P.m. eastern, presided by Vice President Mike Pence. Your gavel in alphabetical order will start Getting these these envelopes coming to him. One of four tellers will then drop off the Republican and a Democrat from each chamber of commerce, who were Congress who reviewed the certificates and announced the state's votes. And then you get to the point where it happens uninterrupted until all the votes are counted. Now, if there's a recognized objection, which is what we're expecting today that has to come in the form of writing at least one member of the House and one member of the Senate. Can for any state object to what's going on in the count. That means if you get that happening, you have to stop the process from this joint session of Congress. The House has to go there direction. The Senate goes their direction, and they have two hours to debate exactly that vote counts. Now, if they come back from that vote count, and even one side is saying we we totally think that there's a problem with the vote here, but the other side doesn't agree. It's not going to move forward. You have to have both sides agree that there is an issue with the vote count and get this. They could do this for each into. Visual state. There's a belief that there could be up to 11 different states. They're going to be talked about each one of those states could get two hours worth of debate. Joe if there's enough of that kind of an objection. So this is something that could legitimately go into Thursday just on the debate site alone and could still come back with no change whatsoever in the way the votes are going to go. So, essentially, this is just the laying tactic. They're not gonna change the results. There's no and this is just a protest move. That's all there really is to. At the end of the day, you have the house who's largely Democratic run, not interested in doing any kind of a protester, so they're not going to support it. And if they don't support any of the protest votes, nothing's going to happen in the Senate. You've already got 20 GOP senators who publicly announced They are our against throwing out any of the state's vote. So you're not going to get the majority there? It doesn't seem so it seems like this is largely just kind of a waste of time and protest Ng throughout the entirety of the ceremony. Alrighty, ma'am. Never dealt. Thank you. Mike, NBC Radio National courts. Mike Dollar Already 5 14 is the time Let's get.

Humiliating run continues for Trump legal team's vote-fraud arguments

"Christie telling President Trump the election is over. President has had an opportunity to access the courts. And I said to you know, George store and get 2:30 A.m. on Wednesday morning if you've got the evidence of fraud presented What's happened here is quite frankly, The contents of the president's legal team has been a national embarrassment to more key states in the presidential election due to certify results today, Let's get an update on that. Joining us live is NBC Radio National correspondent Bills in for Good Morning Bill. Hey, Joe. Good morning, and one of those could be very interesting to watch that is Michigan, one of two states at all certifies, You said today Pennsylvania's the other. But in Michigan, the canvassing board meets this afternoon at one o'clock eastern time to go over the vote totals and to vote to certify one problem. One of the Republicans on that board. Norman Schinkel has already indicated he will vote against certifying the vote in Michigan, where Joe Biden beat Donald Trump by 154,000 votes If the other Republican on the board joins him, and he has refused to comment on this, that would be a two to tie on. Nobody is quite sure what would happen after that it would go to the courts in some fashion, and it could go down to the governor who could replace members of the canvassing. Board. It could get very ugly there, so we're going to keep an eye on that one today. On then in Pennsylvania certification is expected to take place today. This coming after a judge over the weekend not only rejected the lawsuit presented by Rudy Giuliani in court last week. He body slammed it, Joe. He said that it contained strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations. UN supported by evidence and those were the nice things, he said S O the fact that that was a major setback. The certification in Pennsylvania will go on today, even though this move by the judge has been appealed. S so we have a lot of action going on today. If you thought maybe the political wild fires were put out over the weekend. I'm sorry They were not no, not at all.

A Debate of Few Completed Sentences

"Plenty plenty of of insults insults and and very very few few completed completed sentences sentences load load and and let let your your senators senators know know how how you feel. Let's vote now pack. Take sure you in fact, let people know where Senator I'm not going to answer. The question answered that because to question the question is yes. So left. Would you sure? There you go. The quote of the night President Trump and Joe Biden repeatedly talking over each other. The moderator Chris Wallace, losing control early. In one point, Trump accused Biden sons, Hunter of getting $3.5 Million from the wife of the Moscow mayor. That is true, really. President is resident plays totally discredited. Totally discredited. And by the way, way, billion dollars? Yeah. Best advice. You get your president dollars. That is not true. Really, Mr President misuse, it said it's an open discussion, please. All right. A lot of people calling this the worst presidential debate in history. Let's bring in NBC radio National correspondent Bill Zimpfer to get his insights. Certainly a very different debate than one were usedto watching. You have to say the least, hear, Joe. In fact, one CNN commentator had a little more colorful term for it, calling it an s show. Ah, it certainly wass something that we we kind of expected here because we weren't sure what was gonna happen. We knew that President Trump with would go on the attack on Joe Biden. But I don't think anybody expected anything like this that saw President Trump interrupt. Joe Biden dozens of times even interrupted the moderator Chris Wallace, who, as you say, had trouble even keeping control here. Now, if you look at both sides here, Joe Biden's top priority in this debate wass up to look sharp, right? The questions about his mental acuity going in raised by President Trump, mainly and I think he passed the test there. And he also handled this format better as much as he could have and handled the cameras better at times looking squarely into the camera, talking to the American people, rather than talking to President Trump or the moderator. The president did not do that as well on the president's side, Joe, I think the president's lack of preparation showed. Ah, he did not have specifics when he needed to have specifics. Any missed opportunities, mainly when it came to a point where the president said that he has done more in his administration than any other in their first four years. Okay, that door was open. Let's hear about it. Instead, he pivoted to impeachment hoaxes, Hillary Clinton and talked about the record number of judges. That he has appointed. I don't think the average American person cares about the number of judges that a president has appointed here. Joe Biden. On the other hand, I think, laid it out rather quickly here when he says that under Trump, we are weaker, sicker. Poorer, more divided and more violent. It's kind of something's up. Thank you. Bill,

"The U. one calling for an investigation into a bizarre case involving Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and the crown prince of Saudi Arabia let's bring in NBC radio national correspondent bills ever to get this story morning bell good morning Joe this case is bizarre yet in treating and it all has to do with the allegations by these U. House Judiciary Committee approves guidelines for Trump impeachment hearings

"Back in Washington house Democrats moving forward with an impeachment investigation of the president of the designation poses a threat to our democracy we have an obligation to respond to this thread and we are doing so has house Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler after his committee approved the rules governing a possible impeachment joining us now to talk more about that NBC radio national correspondent bills in for good morning bill Hey Joe good morning yeah this is a procedural move but it is a big move by as the Judiciary Committee voted along party lines to approve the guidelines for committee impeachment hearings for president trump so what it does is it enables them give them a little more legal power of the committee can designate certain hearings adds technically impeachment hearings that can empower their staff to question witnesses and it would permit the president council to officially respond to testimony as well so this is like I said a procedural type of boat but still it sets the stage for the next step and Nadler says that by the end of the year they should reach a conclusion on whether to recommend articles of impeachment to the full house of representatives this all has many Democrats including Nancy Pelosi walking a fine line now while she has signed off on the committee's actions she. he has also well been a little bit reluctant to say she wants to go the impeachment route saying that the American public is not ready for that remember almost half of the Democrats in the house of representatives have still not gotten on board with impeachment proceedings a more than half has but that means he still has a rather large block to keep satisfied in the house of representatives well I think what this this this move does it allows them to an almost Democrats don't want to do the impeachment that allows them to do the impeachment while really not doing it well that's correct because they can go through the whole hearing an investigative process that doesn't mean it goes anywhere from here maybe it does but the first hearing is already scheduled to be Corey Lewandowski the former campaign manager who will be a quiz don things like whether he was ordered to tell Jeff sessions to scale back the Mahler investigation so you're right Joe it'll give Democrats a chance to get the facts out there without even going farther down the road but there is a danger if they begin to reveal some facts that get more support for impeachment and they almost may be backed into a corner and may be forced to present these articles of impeachment of a full house and with that at that point less than a year to go to the election that could create some real sticky territory for Democrats very good thank NBC radio national correspond

Hurricane Dorian may hit Florida with storm-surge flooding

"Forecast hurricane during bringing those tropical storm conditions along the northeast coast of Florida as you just heard but flooding and storm surges the issue at the moment could be a hazard as Dorian marches up the east coast let's get more now from correspondence or tomorrow this storm is that parallels the Florida coast is going up the eastern seaboard and it's expected to battered Georgia South Carolina and North Carolina so the actuation orders go from here all the way up to the Outer Banks now officials in those communities are urging people to also evacuate that's why we're hearing this evacuation numbers topping two million overnight and other state of emergency signed by president trump this one for North Carolina three Marshall ABC news is someone a beach Florida let's check in with NBC radio national correspondent bills and for he's also tracking Dorian and can we say Florida has been spared yet the bill. I don't think so Joe because while the it will not make a landfall there right now this the center of this storm remains about a hundred miles off the coast but what we are now seeing is that the storm has expanded even though it has weakened a little bit with maximum sustained winds of a hundred five miles per hour we now have hurricane force winds extending sixty miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extending a hundred seventy five miles from the center and these heavy rain bands are now almost halfway across the Florida peninsula so you have by areas like Jacksonville getting really dumped on with heavy rains a Saint Augustine Daytona beach are they are getting some heavy rain out of this and one thing to keep an eye on here is I'm seeing some embedded hurricanes are a type of tornadoes rather embedded within this better popping up every now and then so far I haven't seen any making landfall they've been out off the coast but another thing to worry about so storm surge flooding gonna be a big issue for Florida they have not escape this as of yet there is right now this storm I like I said remains parked off the coast but is dumping some pretty heavy rain all the way in as far as past Orlando so it really is affecting quite a big area of Florida right now and guess what you know we got more names to worry about here because in the latest report from the national hurricane center we have two new tropical storms Ferdinand in the Gulf of Mexico that should it made but threaten us South Texas with a lot of rain but it should dissipate rather quickly one to keep an eye on here is Gabrielle which just hit tropical storm status this morning it is in the mid Atlantic right now between Africa and the Caribbean those are the kind that really generate into major storm so keep an eye on Gabrielle and the forecasters are watching a tropical wave expected to come off the coast of Africa were no where near done with this busy time of year this brings. Kerry stuff I mean I you know I I know we always get hurricanes but it just seems like these these storms are getting bigger and bigger in our little monsters. yeah yeah well I you know this is the first time since we begin with since we've been keeping satellite data that we have had a category five storm for four years in a row in the Atlantic so there is some credence to that when you think it's not just your imagination that the storms are getting nastier it is true Dorian of course was a category five one hit the Bahamas by the way we're beginning you'll get some looks at the Bahamas and those islands Abaco island great Bahama island total devastation the death toll at seven and that's expected this bike okay thank you NBC radio national correspondent
