"New information obtained from the cell phones of the royal Saudi Air Force trainee who killed three American sailors in a December shooting spree at a U. B. I. access the phones apple denied those allegations but Bora dress the issue again this week if technology companies like apple are willing to oblige the demands of authoritarian regimes they certainly have no excuse for failing to cooperate with the rule of law nations that respect civil liberties and privacy rights and have judicial safeguards the AG went on to stress the importance of cooperation from tech companies when combating threats to our homeland we need American tech leaders to work with us not against us director ray said the information obtained on the shooter's phones was critical information it shows that al Shirani described a desire to learn about flying years ago around the same time he talked about attending the Saudi Air Force Academy in order to carry out what he called a special operation in February an audio recording said to be from al queda claimed responsibility for the attack the FBI now confirming the shooter's ties to the

The FBI broke Apple’s iPhone encryption, but you shouldn’t panic

"Justice Department is still angry at Apple. You probably saw the stories yesterday that had Attorney General William bar announcing that the F. B. I was able to break into the phone of the. What's the word I'm looking for? Who Shot Up Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida? Killing three and wounding eight. According to a bar evidence on the phone ties this. What's the word I'm looking for to the terrorist group? Al-qaeda mission accomplished right. Well sure but how much easier would have been for the DOJ if apple had you know snuck him in the back way that had bar saying thanks to the great work of the FBI and no thanks to apple? We were able to unlock the individuals phones. The bottom line national security cannot remain in the hands of big corporations who but dollars over lawful access and public safety. The time has come for a legislative solution. The piece from the verge had bar saying Apple's decision has dangerous consequences for the public safety and the national security and is in my judgment unacceptable. Apples desire to provide privacy for its customers is understandable but not at all costs. There is no reason why companies like apple cannot design their consumer products and APPs to allow for court authorized access by law enforcement while maintaining very high standards of data security striking. This balance should not be left to corporate boardrooms in Grip Palooza Twenty Sixteen Magadan Gate. The twenty twenty addition. This is something the DOJ has wanted for years going so far as to sue apple back in two thousand sixteen when the FBI was having trouble breaking into iphone. Used by those. What's the word I'm looking for craven? Cowards who shot up an office in San Bernardino in late twenty fifteen eventually the FBI found a way N and they did this time too but you know had to work for it or spend money on it. Maybe the piece from Apple and CIDER on the issue points out that Rhodium which buys bats and sells exploits to law enforcement and other officials announced last week that it was done buying IOS exploits for a while because it has too many of them. But there Oughta be a law in the opinion of the Department of Justice that makes breaking into iphones like yours. Mine and everyone else's easier not everybody agrees quoting the C net piece tech companies including facebook and Google have argued that the same protection keeps millions of people safe from hackers and criminals and shield political dissidents and oppressive countries experts on encryption of also pointed out that if companies oblige and create lawful access that can only be used in criminal investigations. It would create a vulnerability that hackers could potentially exploit. Sounds like the same soup warmed over to the American civil liberties. Union and Gadget Had A. C. L. U. Senior Staff Attorney Brett Max Kaufmann responding to the comment saying every time there's a traumatic event requiring investigation into digital devices. The Justice Department loudly claims claims. It needs back doors to encryption and then quietly announces and actually found a way to access information without threatening the security and privacy of the entire world. The boy who cried. Wolf has nothing on the Agency. They cried encryption. Of course having been called out specifically apple took umbrage at the DOJ's portrayal was probably the part when G. Bar said no thanks to apple apple insider had apple responding to the DOJ's characterization after expressing in no uncertain terms how devastating and heinous last December's terrorist attack was apple pointed out that it began helping the FBI that day. According to the company statement we provided every piece of information available to US including cloud backups account information and transactional data for multiple accounts and we lent continuous and ongoing technical and investigative support to FBI offices in Jacksonville Pensacola and New York. Over the months. Since on this and many thousands of other cases we continue to work around the clock with the FBI and other investigators who keep Americans safe and bring criminals to justice as a proud American company apple continued. We consider supporting law enforcement. Important work our responsibility. The false claims made about our company or an excuse to weaken encryption and other security measures that protect millions of users and our national security. It is because we take our responsibility to national security so seriously that we do not believe in the creation of a back door one which will make every device vulnerable to bad actors who threaten our national security and the data security our customers. There is no such thing as a back door. Just for the good guy says apple and the American people do not have to choose between weakening encryption and effective investigations.

"The most recent contention between the FBI. Napa over device encryption has come to an end as agency is unlocked to iphones belonging to the Pensacola shooter with. No thanks to apple going further. Ag William Bars again called for the government to force apple and others to create backdoors and devices the the apple team or apple has replied the terrorist attack on members of the United States armed service at the Naval Air Station. Pensacola Florida was devastating. And hennessy heinous act up responded to the FBI's I request information hours after the attack and continue sport law enforcement during their investigation. We've prayed every piece of racial able to US including I cloud backups. I count information and transactional data for multiple counts. We lent continuous ongoing technical. And investigators support the FBI OPS Jacksonville Pensacola and Jacksonville Pensacola and in New York. Over the month sense on this many thousands of other cases we continue work round the clock but the FBI and other investigators that keep Americans saved and bring criminals to justice as a proud American company. We consider supporting. We consider supporting law enforcement. Port Work Responsibility. The false claim made about a companies are an excuse to weaken encryption and other security measures that protect millions of users and our national security It is because we take responsibility security so serious that we do not believe in the creation of a back door one which will make every device. Romell too bad actors or threaten our national security and the data security of our customers. There's no such thing as a back door. Just for the good guys. And the American people do not have to choose between weakening encryption and effective investigations. Koskinen keep their information secure and one of the ways in which we do so by using strong encryption across our device and servers. We sell the same iphone everywhere. We don't start customers passcodes and we don't have the capability. Unlock passcode protected. Devices and data centers we deploy strong hardware and software security protections keeping afresh safe. And this show. There are no backdoors into our systems. All these practice apply equally to our operation every country in the world.

"When an individual you gave for real struggle with double ought Buck getting which is what he had in it then you all of it could have been a whole lot worse Jacque Wilson the man who less than six seconds after a first shot was fired in the Texas church fire the last shot one shot from about fifty feet away that ended up taking down the attacker someone who is an American hero in like any hero says there is no hero and that also illustrates a really good point it could have been a whole lot worse let's say the church I have been a gun free zone say that Jack had been there and ready we don't know how that story ends but as Jack put it could have been a whole lot worse any doubt that if inside of four seconds you're ready had two people who died the situation was going to be a lot worse there is a moral to this particular story and I'm Brian one and for the right one mark Colvin hosts the morning rush that you J. unknown west Palm Beach the private show WYO D. in Miami and it is always an honor and a pleasure to be guest hosting for the great one Markel then and I love being with you you're in absolutely amazing audience you hear me talk about the premise there being two sides to stories and one side effects the most pervasive form of bias news media being mission and so with all that in mind I talked a lot about mental health issues in the first hour and often in the trying to treat symptoms rather than reduce mental health problems in the first place we wind it again to the gun control argument I was thinking about this situation the Texas church yesterday I was thinking about what might happen if we had done for results I don't think about an attack that happened earlier this month Naval Air Station Pensacola probably heard about it so we had as part of the Saudi training program a Saudi terrorists participating with our navy training that ended up concocting a plot in carrying out an Islamic terror attack at Naval Air Station Pensacola no one the things that you might not have heard if you really were paying close attention to the story you might have but you would have had to have worked for because certainly your news media they go out of its way to bring you this information you know the one thing above all else that was requested by those serving and Naval Air Station Pensacola was after that attack to be armed that first you might be thinking are you talking about these are professionally trained military heroes I mean these are the folks you protect us from the bad guys there it'll of course again but now it's again frees up gun free zone the naval air station but it's gonna want men military bases all across our country they just wanted the ability to defend themselves because maybe that story would've been different and maybe we would have lost so many American heroes that day had somebody simply been able to one eight the threat the way that say Jack Wilson did but even that PC culture that has permeated our military guns going we have a gun free zone the networks uhhuh so when I bring up piece of research that at first might not make sense in the context of this conversation but I will quickly bring it back around it's a story about Mexico certainly that's been a big part of this conversation an escalation in violence with drugs with many different things that I've been issues throughout the course twenty nineteen Mexican gun control that's something you never hear really discuss right was the last time you heard of Mexican gun control policy being discussed well there's a reason for the Mexican gun control has led to record murders in Mexico so there is quite literally only one gun store in Mexico it's an army operated store Mexico City but doesn't sell any other caliber other than the twenty two IC got one gun store in all Mexico in only sell twenty twos really he got all as well as all the time and now I mean you know high caliber and an even automatic weapons that were only twenty yeah that's right now there's a reason there's only this one gun store in Mexico they have is V. Mexico City because the Mexican government makes it nearly impossible to own firearms legally in the country the paperwork it's expensive the process it takes months to complete and there's no guarantee of an outcome and even if approved well you've got to travel to Mexico City to purchase a twenty two is that by the way is priced in a way that's also cost prohibitive for most Mexican families and so the net result is that only one percent of Mexicans legally possess a firearm okay one percent and again all they legally possess is the twenty two now if you are legally owned guns equals less violence in safer communities Mexico would be one the safest countries in the world if we exponentially saver than the United States right especially when dealing guns for lower caliber guns no why is it you will never hear any this being discussed in our godless sources letters news media why is it that you never hear this discussed by leftist in the United States just over thirty percent of adults legally own a firearm that's literally thirty times the ownership rated Mexico an eighty four percent of the guns legally purchased or a higher caliber than a twenty two so what's the difference in murder rate a record average of ninety murders per day have occurred in Mexico this year what's the average in the United States for a population much higher forty six murders per day okay the Mexican population is a hundred and thirty million the US population three hundred twenty eight million so to put another way your greater than five hundred percent more likely to be murdered in Mexico than in the United States where the legal gun ownership rate is thirty times higher with much higher caliber guns so for everyone who espouses the narrative that guns rather than people are the problem explain this one now the escalation of violence in Mexico three each crisis level not only has the murder rate reached record levels cartels briefly out gunned even the government forces right done things like recover L. top son later executing a police officer responsible for the arrest you have so many even law enforcement government officials better intimidated to stand in the way these cartels we just saw ones are at the I got involved with the attack on the U. top amlee that it was a government official that was involved allegedly in that attack because again they're defenseless against these cartels so where is the truth guns equal more plants right more deaths now when you take a look at the situation in Mexico and you take a look at the facts in this country even with the escalation of violence that we're dealing with shouldn't we have a conversation about gun control in what has been done when it's been carried out to extremes in North America no less and that takes me to this one twenty nineteen record mass killings illustrate gun control failures generally speaking it just doesn't work and I'm talking about gun control Mexico pretty broad example right but it's not just Mexico yeah we we can make this as complicated of a conversation as we want to and you have a bunch of people who try most often in the name of political emotional interest for any type of pragmatism reality but it shouldn't be that way doesn't need to be complicated remember automatic not semi automatic automatic guns were legal in the United States until the nineteen eighties so if that were the case why is it no we didn't have much bigger problems back then now again you got to take everything in context the information I shared with you the first hour of the show the rise in mental health issues and the connection between a lack of belief in an escalation and mental health issues and violence I mean take a look at this information on gun control this you know it first question I always happier people just say gun control gun control okay if you have somebody is bent on killing people and you can troll guns you don't have a problem anymore meaning I I guess people find alternate options like a machete for example New York this weekend whatever it happens to be we're still not dealing with the issues so a bit more about gun control take a look at what's been happening in the United States we've progressively sing the progressive still what pass stricter and stricter gun control so I pointed out the Mexico's gun laws are among the most restrictive in the world the process to legally possess it takes months only one percent of Mexicans illegally on a gun and all the owners to twenty two and yet tens of thousands are murdered annually by a legally owned firearms and on this Mexicans are rendered essentially defenseless when you take a look at the gun control the way it's playing out in the United States especially in twenty nineteen we see very similar things and I'm going to bring you information that hits home next I'm Brian mud in for the great one van do you know mark Livin on talk radio five sixty KSFO ladies I. received a tip about is illegal possession of guns by a person who also reported that this student had compiled a list of people he wants to kill before he leaves the United States and by the way the queen's the tipped off the FBI he was also on the list he wasn't on the list before he was gonna be on it afterwards that's for darn sure so this is just another case where we've got Saudi students and I hate to point at the Saudis because allegedly there our ally in the Middle East they've got some radical factions in there think about all the flyers to flow the planes on nine eleven most of them were Saudis because there were people that they're radicalized it's something after watching again I'm glad people are on the ball and this just goes to show you if you see something say something because there are times when you do so you say something and see something again it turns out to be quite important so whoever took the FBI off to this more power to you in Detroit's to another story we go here more than twenty five hundred the story from right by by the way more than twenty five hundred dead Americans remain on the voter rolls in Detroit according to a federal lawsuit filed last week federal lawsuit filed alleged that the city of Detroit failing to maintain their voter rolls keeping more than twenty five hundred dead Americans age eighty five and older on the rolls after retaining voter data from the state of Michigan the public interest legal foundation researchers say they discover that a number of registered voters either had impossibly old or disqualifying young birthdates in one example health researchers that's the name of the crew the pill for public interest legal foundation the pill free searchers found out that are registered voters stated they'd been born in eighteen twenty three now that would make you either the oldest person ever or is somebody wrote something down wrong right the group public interest legal foundation health source states the Detroit I just think it's funny the columns of pills the Detroit has about four thousand seven hundred eighty eight registered voters who have been flagged as having potentially register to vote twice or even three times another roughly sixteen thousand five hundred registered voters let's please do not have dates when they actually registered to vote the president of the public interest legal foundation Christian Adam said city of Detroit's failing forms of those basic functions do its citizens during the city governments nonchalant attitude towards addressing evidence of dead or duplicate registrations exposes yet another vulnerability in our voting systems our nation works to improve election security before November twenty twenty making a federal case out of this was necessary and I hope we can receive resolution for the polls open but this is just Detroit how many other cities across the country do you think this problem exists in here the there's been a group of conservatives who going around in two different states and said we want to clean up this whole thing with the your your voter rolls because you got people on here that aren't there are dead that it moved and this is just right for the possibility of any kind of fraud so we want to clean this up and of course the liberals like no no no you can't do that you're taking people off there who who might well vote this next time around the person's been dead for thirty years I don't think they're going to vote in less it's fraudulently right but that's you know how they do it it's in the end you just gotta wonder if there's gonna be a company out there they could just go through and say government way around I will clean this up for you will figure out who's there course if somebody hasn't voted for a while you send a letter to the last known address say Hey you know what's going to take you off the voters registration if you don't send back this postcard a few you know don't call us in our come into the office in should prove that you're still alive and be a very important thing for you to do you know I I look back to you know Chicago mayor Daley in Chicago back in the nineteen sixties promise John F. Kennedy promise candy's dad actually that he would deliver Chicago for him and he did indeed in that put Kennedy over the top of that's why John Kennedy won the presidential election a lot of it has to do with that may know back then there was a lot of voter fraud going on joke in Chicago he used to be is a you know vote early and vote often it's amazing my father was Die Hard Republican voted Republican almost straight ticket all the time and my father passed away in nineteen ninety one do you know what's amazing is ever.

"Of things going on in the news this week was look at the reports we don't have all the information at all even close to it the shooting at the Naval Air Station Pensacola couple days ago we know now it was a Saudi aviation student member of the Saudi military who now turns out please let's see four people dead including himself several other people shot some really brave and good law enforcement officers who ran in to open that shot but he ended up we never stop this guy shot and killed turns out that he had had party the dinner party few days before this summer's buds at the partner watching videos of mass shootings and then one of his buddies actual videotape the shooting two of them two others were watching it so they're part of the whole deal it's a separate terror attack it made me once again visit the idea of what are you doing how are you prepared have you thought about this do you understand that yes I understand your mission Rogers with tax it would be rare well actually not as rare as you think these days the for good we've got Texas we got California all in on a number of the students have been terror related and then the question becomes what they want to get caught in the middle of one of those when you carry him when he's just not nurse thirty eight going to be enough are you carrying a semi automatic with enough ammo in it and an extra magazine and do you have some skills do you have some training have you been exposed I mean just first right off the bat do you understand that you need to get moving right away move move move move get yourself into a place where you can either get cover or perhaps and then throw this thought out to you ever thought about this get your back to a wall or get somebody who's with you to be washing behind you to watch for allies because that may not be the only person there we had that shooting in Walmart I think was the Vegas where a good guy moves in on the guys should other people he doesn't know but the shooters girlfriend sneaks up behind the good guy shoots him in the back of the head she's not largest watchers who shows up to try to stop the mass murder you can't have eyes in the back of your head do you have a conversation with the person that you spend time with all the time your spouse what are we going to do here even if that it would be great if that person is trying to have a gun and knows how to use it but even without that if that person can no okay put your hand on my shoulder you gonna go where we're going to go we're gonna move we're gonna stay together but you're looking around you're looking to the side you know look look behind you watch and see what's going on Gee that would require us to whole train which brings us to our guest some several years ago we started doing some video work working with the folks at the FRC shooting range in baton Rouge Louisiana and they haven't really really interesting program going on right now John hand she joins us from FRC he's the general manager in the chief instructor there Hey John how are you Hey Tom how are you well I am doing great you guys have a great range of people in the baton Rouge area actually were in south of Louisiana I don't know about and come take a look at what you guys been doing there well thank you so much I appreciate that we miss you around here and ilog Ryan several times AJ that haven't senior analyst and I guess about a year that's right you're all going to make those young guys working on them so that's good yeah in honor and I hope you know you've got an open door and talking on it will do is what I saw this program called the Sentinel program and then the junior center program explain the Sentinel program is in Canada first of all what is it let's talk about that so the single program is basically it's a comprehensive program that's designed to educate arm citizen in in all the aspects of farm state including responsible gun ownership ethical moral obligations of carrying a gun for self defense legal parameters and the ramifications of using deadly force if you have to you and of course marksmanship gun handling skills individual tactics and both for avoiding or if necessary prevailing in a violent encounter it is A. quantitatively measured course in other words they are tested exclusive when other tested extensively on every aspect of all the courses that they take so you know we're we're we're very much proponents of being able to quantify the training and it's it's it's basically designed take a novice all the way through quantifiable competent hi this is not because you mentioned the classroom the courses this is not a class or course this is a whole bunch of courses in yes Sir that's correct they just several candidates actually are required to take ten of our flagship courses which include a first time shooter class the Louisiana concealed handgun permit class a draw clinic the concealed carry enhanced class defensive pistol they also take hemorrhage trauma they also were are required to attend the Louisiana legal seminar which is interestingly enough typically presented by attorney James Reeves out of New Orleans I'm sure you're familiar with them there's also a force on force class that they have to take which is which is very interesting and normally simulations type training is there's exclusively for the military and and and law enforcement but we're very privilege in the fact that we're able to offer that to the civilian pop that's terrific is sold by a role in it I mean you get that we do it as you know we've we've shot some of the first person offender shows with you guys and to always hear from everybody is wow I never thought of that happens every single time right absolutely the things are so well so we have a thirty two hundred square foot two story fully furnished house it's Amanda basically and and the staff here we basically call it the ego buster this is the whole point here that you know people come in and they think they can shoot and a lot of really can but once they get in there of the entire dynamic changes on the target start shooting back at you okay so all right and then you so you got the four so force and then what else is involved in this program there's also quite a large block of private one on one instruction not typically available to our to our other customers just kind of exclusive for the shuttle program and then there's an entire day of qualification like their qualification test is actually an eight hour and eight hour ordeal us because quite it's quite challenging they've got a pass a live far qualification designed by instructor staff feared up or see they also have to pass a semi missions qualification inside the shoot house which incorporates a lot of the CQB techniques yeah also different scenarios like home intruder active shooter things like that and then there's a one hundred question written exam and it's it's it's very heavily weighted towards Louisiana legal statutes and it's it's not a you know it's not a multiple choice true false it should just say and and and and short answer so it's quite a challenging course and so that the group the peak yes Sir what what do you get at the end of this long involved for taking all these courses I mean is there like the super certificate or something you'd well the most important thing they get is peace of mind when they finish this course Tom they will basically has more farm specific training the average street **** department of justice did a report several years back where they estimated that the average police officers spent about a hundred and ten hours on self defense and farms training of that hundred ten hours sixty of it is farmed specific the shuttle program is actually closer to sixty five seventy hours of farm specific training so they will literally have it least as much as or more than the average police officer and then there are some pennies you know course they're going to get the really really nice printable certificate they're gonna get the Sentinel patch they will learn that patch and they also get their name on the wall as an SRC Sentinel nine it's displayed here inside the inside the range there were also understood you have the signal program but you're a junior said in a program you know that's what I'm really most excited about I've got I've got about seven candidates now in the adult program and we're working on getting our first couple of junior sandals you know I'm so concerned about the whole virtual reality in the video game thing and and I I want the new generation to learn the respect and responsibility that comes with dealing with firearms that shooter what's interesting about the junior cental program is that these kids in it starts at twelve and up Tom but these kids are going to learn every single thing that the adults learn the only thing that's different is they won't actually get a concealed handgun permit out good yeah because they can't use the old that's right but they still take the class in the still learn all of that valuable legal information and everything they just won't get the permit but they're literally going to be taking the same training that the adults do how long does it take to go through the entire program so we work at the students pace okay it is conceivable that you can finish the program in about ninety days okay if they were to schedule their classes back to back when they're offered they could conceivably finish in about ninety days but we do work in the students faces very flexible they can finish in ninety days they can finish in six months you know it just depends on their schedule so so we're very flexible with their schedule you know I mean time is precious for a lot of these folks four I don't think about it a lot of people be interested in this obviously you got to live in the area to take advantage of but if somebody runs a shooting range in another part of the country and I think in that sounds pretty cool I'd like to talk to John about that would you be willing to chat with other shooting ranges about what you're doing all my god absolutely absolutely yeah it's funny I'm I'm a range operator right now so I got to keep the lights on right so I yeah I have to earn money everything but that's not what we're all about it up or she were about mission you know and the more people you know you're talking about the active shooter in in Pensacola and got which you do you are you trained all special and what a tracking our prayers and and our thoughts go out to those poor people but it but you don't Hey what ultimately what are we trying to achieve we want people to get trained you know this this this whole thing kind of formed in my mind D. I'm sure you're familiar with call ran a show I'm sure you know him he just came out with this fabulous book strategies and standards for defensive handgun training and some great information that book well I was reading that really got to think we got me to thinking well how do we get people to train passed the state minimums you know and and this is in this program is kind of the brain child of that so yeah I would look for a the Rangers to call me and ask me about it because I am more than willing to help all you know programs and the website is FRC BR dot com that's for baton Rouge FRC B. R..

'A real security problem': Pensacola shooting exposes exception in US gun policy that leaves Americans vulnerable

"At a Florida here station that left three people dead and eight wounded last week has put the spotlight on federal guidelines that leave Americans vulnerable to attacks in their own homeland from a foreign source investigators have said Saudi airman Mohammed all from Ronnie launched a shooting spree Friday at Naval Air Station Pensacola with the Glock forty five handgun purchased legally from a licensed dealer despite not being a U. S. citizen or resident how is this possible Jorge Ortiz national correspondent at USA today as an in depth look at the issue or a set this up for nationals are usually not allowed to possess weapons in the US and not you know the Pensacola shooter in Saudi airmen who was training there brought his with the with an exception to the law which I got a lot of people to take out a hunting license and then have access to weapons and up governor understand as cold as a loophole or call it an exception that needs to be higher than that but it's a it's a law that clearly to lose and are one of the implications of that is this air men who's twenty one years old but a Glock with a hunting license well you know a hand gun nobody takes a handgun to go hunting I think that you would day he what about a hour if I fall and that's the kind of thing that you should raise a red flag it did not and it had tragic consequences hard so now there seems to be brewing a debate about whether or not this rule of this law needs to be changed in some way you were thank you there will be some serious discussion about that and it's very possible that the NRA or some other call get incision that savers lose had gotten lost would fight it but there doesn't seem to be much reason to allow people to come into this country and bye bye done you know it Jeffrey Lee that's certainly not pistols like that so I would think that because of the spotlight that is given sign on this issue there will be some serious discussion and you would think some possible improvement to alter this particular when you have the governor of the state that has pretty free rein on on the purchase of hand guns it's saying Hey this is what we need to do something about this speak with Jorge Ortiz reporter at USA today about his piece entitled Pensacola shooting exposes exception in U. S. gun policy that leaves Americans vulnerable and that exception is if you are applying for a hunting license you can get a gun even if you're not a U. S. citizen lease that's the rule in Florida so who was saying what on this issue which doctor well first of all that so they they law is national it's not just in Florida it is that in Florida it's easier to get a hunting license then in some other states and one of the concerns also is that it states like Florida that don't require a background check for private citizens sales yeah the guy that he would need a hunting license if he had gone to a yes the internet responded to an ad or anything like that you know he could have bought a a weapon from a private seller without any kind of background check background checks are not perfect in that does somebody like him likely does not have a record of any violation violations in the U. S. ability here for a couple years but they might have been something in his record from back home that would about trigger all arms but the the you know that background checks don't cover people from from elsewhere or you know their breaker abroad only international background checks it activity within the United States where does this go from here any feel for kind of movement on the ground over this law it's a little early but again do attention deficit there's been spot put on this I think I will create a discussion and if possibly we can tighten the OB either it also raises the question of how necessary is it to allow people to come into the country out to hunt and that's that's something that we're happy to

"You got category or category be systems on the base you gotta have military police and security please or whatever so I don't see it's a big stretch that you did to arm these these instructor pilot I think it's a good idea I think it's a great idea I fully support yeah these instructor pilots at Naval Air Station Pensacola or wherever to be armed and we could have had this Saudi terrorist which the whole program needs a a re vamp and you know the fact that this guy had an online footprint of you know anti American tropes and I saw a story today that he this this guy might have been radicalized since the age of fifteen this Saudi terrorist they killed the three of Pensacola so how the hell was this not detected how do we not have if we have military guests from foreign nations are bases how do we not have a dragnet or with the computer technology today that we're not able to scour and find things attributed to him they could be a flashing red light of anti Americanism or a potential radicalized terrorism bent I don't get a Dave thanks for the call and thanks for your patronage and listening to ferment in the Danbury market so a special shout out to all of our Connecticut listeners been with us a long time and I highly appreciate it eight hundred eight zero one eighty nine ninety nine the number here on shin at eight hundred eight zero one eighty nine ninety nine let's lighting round it's got a lot of things to do impeachment wise we spent a lot of our one talking about the IG report and spelling out the real deal if you missed it of course our one.

S. sailors she won out over here nothing to me he wasn't over here on a specific hunt he was here to train out of fly jets what is a foreigner need a hunting license in this country you're here you're here to learn to fly jets the FBI also says that he and some other Saudis traveled to New York City around thanksgiving and they visited not nine eleven memorial think about that they were also at a dinner party hosted by the killer where he showed videos of mass shootings yeah right and wrong for the attack nothing your regular wrong about that everybody does that in what makes the dinner party and then three of the Saudis just happen to be outside of the classroom building when he opened fire murdering sailors filming it on their phones yeah please tell me that they're not buying just happened to be please tell me they've already as ed said sent them a note to my knowledge in some secure Berwick or something Melinda ridiculous yeah back that's that's hard to believe that they just so happen to be across the street with their cell phone cameras recording out when this went on except I do not buy the line that these guys had no idea what he was planning to do I don't buy that I am not convinced all right five one two eight three six zero five ninety new report today says we're making no progress on saving people from death on the highways at the hands of drunk drivers and the fifty governors say that we ought to start considering lowering the blood alcohol level to point oh five Utah is the only state that does that point oh five ten thousand five hundred eleven people were killed and drunk driving rex last year it's been pretty consistent over several years one third of the debts on highways are related to drunk driving and they say in particular two thirds of the fatal wrecks involve somebody with a blood alcohol level of point one five that's blotto match really drunk do they cite Utah's stats on since they've lowered it have they been able to decrease the number of deaths on there so that's a good question it's not addressed in this story we'll look into that during the break all right and see if we can find an answer to that all right three oh eight yes said he's me for a few mark if this happens this will be a boom for lawyers and law enforcement and money grabbing cities boom if you are to point five more more jobs for the lawyers more revenue strange coming in alright let's go to Alan at three OO eight with mark Melinda and it good afternoon Alan yeah did you just very no middle eastern military training in America I just did you know like trump said no middle eastern refugees when he first took office and the Democrats sued him into oblivion your point well you're being awful discriminatory it sounds to me like just like they argue Donald Trump what now fortunately the Supreme Court upheld it you know Sir I they're over here to learn how to fly in one of them shot people last week was it seventeen of them came over nine eleven and went to the world trade centers went to the Pentagon and tried to go someplace else I got no love for the Saudis who want to do do harm on us we've been okay on the Saudis a long time okay so they went through an extreme vetting process and you still on a lot of men with extreme vetting process that you wanted you didn't want some will drop to be able to keep out no he says the Saudis we're talk about it we were on the other the president about mon promote Muslims from Muslim countries yeah well let me let me clarify trump was saying people from a specific list of countries okay that generated terrorists he didn't say Muslim country but they're predominately Muslim countries we all know many of the market is well what do you get that Sir what this call what are you going soft on up to are you soft autumn Juno I guess we lost him he's he's gone are just trying to get me in your ride out was not support of the president's band on countries I was not but in this specific deal it doesn't make sense to me I just don't make sense to me I know we're doing we're doing the work for all the airlines builders our aircraft builders we Salama Kantana money over there it helps us but yeah lady I think Alan the may have been agreeing with you when it comes to the middle eastern pilot training but he was also saying that Charlie was rife with his policy to if you disagreed with that maybe rethink that I don't I think that's what Alan lake says what he was saying to our call back if you like to now he's back in nineteen in the because Melinda's got a lot to say has a whole lot to say and I two we came back I can't all right she can hold it will get to it that's coming up three eleven mark Melinda.

"The FBI says Friday's attack at Naval Air Station Pensacola was limited to a single shooter we currently assess there was one gunman who perpetrated this attack and no arrests have been made in this case special agent in charge Rachel row houses the shooter used one gun that he bought legally north Korea's state media says Pyongyang has conducted a very important test in its missile program national security adviser Robert o'brien tells CBS face the nation the US still expects North Korea to get rid of its nuclear arsenal if North Korea takes a different path than the one it's promised its people the people of South Korea the United States the wall came down and said that he is going to denuclearize the Korean peninsula if he does not do that they will take that into account and and we've got plenty of tools in the toolkit sad news from Sesame Street the voice behind Big Bird Carroll Spinney I'm Jim Johnson these is the business of sports from Bloomberg radio with Scott suctioning Michael Barr and Evan nobody was thank you very much for joining us let's continue our conversation with Paul Rabal he's prone to cross athlete and entrepreneur founded the premier lacrosse league with his brother hello Michael Rabal just happen to finish up its first season he also plays in the league for the atlas lacrosse club all the former first round pick in the major league lacrosse where he was the recipient of multiple MVPs an offense of player of the year awards so Paul leads now get to this part where it's been one year since you debuted the pre mayor lacrosse league tell me where do you see it going next year yes Sir we we were really humbled to be here when we made our now spent and we had six across clubs then it was a mouth full because we had to explain essentially recreating the professional sports model team sports model we we went toward ace so we were sitting here talking about how all six of our clubs over the course of a ten regular season game schedule all star break in playoffs travel to one location it's weak each week and they each play a game and they win or lose and they have their win loss record take them through to the playoffs and potentially a championship so it's a different way of thinking about sports luckily as as we've grown and through our partnership with NBC and a lot of our corporate partners we've been able to convey that message and we've built fandom based on teams with no city affiliation so much that we decided we announced a at the end of the season that we're gonna expand to a seven for cross club and then the question is what will how do you manage an odd number of teams so what we found was interesting in the Torah base model is that we all have lied bias so that's how we manage to buy systems with the seventh club will have natural buys now so we'll still have three games every weekend there will be two weekends this year as we bumped it from fourteen total weakens the fifteen there will be two weekends were gonna pilot all seven clubs and market and they'll be four games SO two teams will play twice or understand if this product market fit for four games over weekend and that'll determine the store base future if we want to go to eight and potentially is that too many games are you able to sell more tickets so there's a lot of learning so when I think about the future of of the PO out we're on to something and we spent a lot of time with other sports leagues commissioners another in a nascent stage sports leagues and understand the to our base model and and the future of consumption around millennials ingen's these particular around social but were also seen even an up tick in viewership on television and the NBA may not agree with that but television is still you know that the most prominent source of of live game feed like Adam would probably agree that television is still the predominant the here he would hundred percent because of the holy grail and and we do as well but so the future for us as as we've talked before it could lead to a place where this league turns into a city franchise based model or the the Tor model could progress and we could host multiple games in different markets each weekend and I think we're we're learning as we go where we're communicating transparently with audience with you guys and and certainly our investors are are excited about the prospect of of either this is where we find out if Colin novel listens to the show because we you know we named him and they said you calling you better let us know that you listen to the show one ring group one of the investors yell tie on the Brooklyn nets correct one of the investors what's their response we're talking about the premier lacrosse league the PLO what has been their response because obviously nobody expects profitability in one year in the league right what is the path look like and what your investor say yet so right now our our revenue comes from primarily five CAD Greece's media and you can look at your media rights deal with our partner with NBC to R. O. T. T. platform it's a dual approach with them and we have a JV in place there and then you're you're the way that you can monetize social and digital which I think were at the forefront in sports from so that's bucket one then you have your sponsors which we came out of the gates hot and we're pretty lucky with adidas Gatorade Capital One we had Corning gorilla glass vineyard vines which dominated our Black Friday and cyber Monday deals you know you want one phrase that an adviser uses to us is CO bar stool is Erica Nardini as our merchandise caps off is she calls it a content to commerce and and the per capita numbers that we have that they have on site was over twelve boxes season our conversion rate a website is over ten percent sent her to live in merchandising that that reports back to your content style so that would be bucket to on your sponsors and then three is our tickets so were resource in that department more than ever this year we're excited about where we landed last year over ten thousand for weekend sold but our venues said you had big venues in some cases it digital what would you learn when you played like Baltimore smaller venue full house yeah what so what I'll change if anything for next year honestly the attention thing about sports in and we're we're going under the hood here is it take it used to be the primary driver for revenue in sports leagues going back to that Major League Baseball local community driving tickets and media rights came and let your media flipped it was the first sponsors come in and even if you go over to the PLO or other soccer leagues overseas merchandise jumps in front of tickets because yeah plane that many home games and that's why you have a deed is said Nike spending hundred million dollars on kit deals because there's real retail value of so tickets in some cases move into the fourth most important bucket and then the the fourth and fifth one for us is merchandise to mention that and then the last one is our academy approach so what we're doing you sports and that the that the two things I want to share with you guys is that we've developed that use in our players all over the country doing camps and clinics led by them into a seven figure top on business we paid out players over three hundred K. and that's in addition to their wages so when you think about you know ten year plan whatever well how did those five I assume those were an order is that right media all the way down yeah how do you think about the percentages changing as things grow from your one yes so you know tickets are going to follow number of games so we're at fifteen weekends now and we have seven lacrosse clubs says we increase our our number of participants and their by number of games will see our tickets grow especially as we resource them and we're doing some tactical adjustments this year we're partnering with you for cross tournaments over the summer there's a reason why it's just us Major League Baseball and really MLS that a plane and summers it's a vacation time for families hi sports activity time to run in partnership there we didn't do that in your one but tickets I think remains constant we can bump merchandise from a revenue standpoint head of tickets I believe actually think youth sports is I mean I know it's a huge business it's even will spend a rattling on two things their kids and their pets they go out if you can capture that money you're doing will quickly shifted on that we're working so much on taxes yeah you guys I'm a I'm a crazy start when when a dog is included on an Instagram post your your posting gave me because up two hundred thirty eight percent on average so much that our seventh across club I'm I'm pushing are just this is a dog it should be in the logo yeah yeah well they're very few dog mascots that I think it right and then if you look at the virality dollars anyway we we can digress but that that thought process of what's going into maybe a team name as I've seen your fans have sent in some design logos and then also the logo and the research that goes into what might drive engagement I think people finds who think I just think of a cool name and and draw something neat all right co founder of the premier lacrosse league man a friend of the show and we're so glad to have you thank you Sir I love being here thanks us something that caught me with Mister Paul rubles visit here is something folks I want to share with you that did not make the shows when the mikes were all and we were talking afterwards and he was talking about how it's tough for a start up to begin and we were talking about the a a half and he really didn't want his lead to be compared with the I a AF because people would get the wrong impression yeah well I'm just circle was with Paul by how much data they dig into nothing is done arbitrarily these are well thought out decisions based on analytics based on data based on a real stuff to that point you know he mentioned briefly in there that statistic I don't have the number in front of me but but how much better social media posts do when there is a pet involved specifically a puppy any said that in the context of talking about the seventeen that is yet to be named that they're adding and how you may see you may see that team named after a dog because it does better on on social media that's a great example we saw this NBA on a recently than in the bobcats after himself right just just hearing the way that Paul is thinking about something as simple or maybe as innocuous as what we gonna name this new team and thinking about it through the lens of social engagement and and new media I think that's a really interesting look that would been Bob Johnson of Johnson bobcats farm road it's better to be number one the number five our number because my we have a chance to go for three around his numbers of your time at first for wearing the number I would just have this is a sport the number of the week time now for the number of the week yeah yeah yes I the number is three and a half and I couldn't believe it when I saw it three and a half the amount of steps it takes John this under the combo to get from one free throw line to how many states well you know what you are all your clothes that's not it but you're climbing the steps will Brian James took in that video the other day when there was no I'm looking at this you good it takes three apparently he got distracted I guess something was happening at the under the basket between the two players and I guess he said he had a brain freeze ever got the dribble and and I'm looking at the old ones is there the local is hard enough to guard when asked about the bulls guard to be doesn't even lebron said a house here that was back thank you both should be.

Hey get the mid terms and then see is what yes he is we're doing it again and then it's back to point a it's like that's the way it works we don't so now is this is this what it's going to be I hope not gotta be awful three two three five three eight twenty four twenty three H. events and shows your Twitter for free to tweet at us flu season.
