"One of my personal favorites is this teeny tiny island called leila de moon littler moon. I'm butchering the name. And i apologize but it is the smallest of the faroe islands which is an archipelago in the north atlantic of eighteen rocky volcanic islands and it's t tiny. And maybe you've seen a picture of it. It is known because it often has. It's own perfect. Little cloud propped right on top of the island. And it's just so sweet and it's fun to look at which i think is you know a great qualifier for natural wonder but you also look at it and you say what is that. How does that island have its own personal cloud. It seems like something out of a cartoon and so you sort of get to dig in and understand the science behind it and and those are really wonderful. I've seen that place. And it's incredibly cute cartoon. It's got like a little cloud hat that it wears and it could not be. You wanna draw a teeny little smiley face on it and it's going on adventures and hanging out with the whale or something i saw. It just looks like something other zelda like thing yeah for sure. Yeah if there's definitely a category of places where like belongs in a fantasy novel or a video game and you're like okay that's well. These are amazing places. "Care. Who gets the hotel. It's not gonna be him eventually. Newton and tories put together a package to buy the aladdin for eighty five million dollars by that time the value of the resort had diminished. Judge clyburn has given up control and the state had moved to close the casino again until a sale agreement was finalized during all of this. I wound up with a brief interview with carson. I remember calling him in burbank. California and being put on hold now. I'm thinking he's not gonna talk to me. His assistant is going to tell me. He's not available but to my surprise voice came on and said when cousin concluded the interview a few minutes later i had a scoop. He called newton's effort to buy the aladdin. A quote. cutesy publicity stunt. Newton didn't think much of the jab. I think he was confusing himself for me to me. It was just another performer. That decided he wanted to own his own business. There wasn't personal element in my attitude about him negotiating because if the former owners had accepted his deal. Mine was dead in the water. So it wasn't a thing that i couldn't get along with johnny carson. He was the fact that they couldn't get along with. Johnny carson should therefore they gave my offer some validity niagara says that he and carson were not trying to change the deal. They signed one and only one contract on april. Twenty third nineteen eighty. We were we were very angry and berry upset and we knew we had been double-crossed so and we knew that the judge went along with it and at the state went along with it mass. What disappointed me. The most so niagara submitted his resignation to claiborne as the aladdin's court appointed manager carson issued. A news release saying he and niagara were disappointed that their deal had fallen through. He accused the outcast aladdin owners of subjecting him to quote bad faith dealings. He's kid at the end of the release was that he was very concerned of our state's ability to control the gaming industry because here a head licensed editorials and he knew exactly who he was. They had Again sort of passed a ton and kept the mob involved people of the past involved today in nineteen eighty which he considered that unacceptable to him. Johnny tended to be very black and white guy is no gray area. So when he did is he said and what you to leave the state to. Let's just get out of that state if they're going to do things like this and cage miss deal which we knew didn't have narrowed the a chance of success at rs did because of the funds we were putting into the operation niagara says carson stopped appearing on the strip and sold his interest in the local television station k. "Now after the war sometime later in nineteen o six. A new courthouse square was built in scott county although this courthouse original courthouse burned down in one thousand nine hundred forty six destroying quite a few records. It had not been transferred to nashville tennessee as was quite common and happened in many in many locations throughout the united states to sandstone buildings from the original nineteen o. Six construction still remain standing now. The the first national bank building in the old scott county jail are still standing both of these on the national register historic places to get an opportunity to go by their check. It out there some really great history in that area and it's a beautiful town in this particular shadab blue story we're dealing with a nineteen twenty seven incident in scott county tennessee. Now nine hundred twenty seven. This was the time of prohibition. The eighteenth amendment made it illegal to make transport and sell alcohol and it was passed by the us congress in one thousand nine hundred seventeen in lasted till about nineteen thirty three now. In nineteen nineteen the amendment was ratified by three quarters of the united states states that was required to make it a part of the constitution but the new constitutional amendment did not specify specifically how the law would be enforced. So congress passed a separate law. The national prohibition act also known as the false debt act after congressman andrew john holstead stead of minnesota a prohibition supporter who guided and pushed the bill through his chairman of the house judiciary committee while the eighteenth amendment was really only a few pages long. The false debt act actually took seventeen pages of single-spaced documents in the congressional legislative record for nineteen ninety. Now affective enforcement all stead was also almost doomed from the very start. The country's forty eight states the time we're not inclined to help punch the ferring to leave federal agents to shoulder the burden of enforcement available or operating funds were pretty much inadequate to say the least basically states looked at it. As a another unfunded mandate from the federal government the federal government states together spent less than five hundred thousand. Dollars to enforce prohibition in nineteen twenty three. But that's not to say law enforcement. Local and federal prohibition throughout the country didn't work on the illegal alcohol issues. They seize warehouses full of whiskey. Busted up stills smashed countless bottles of liquor took access to beer barrels instills and other equipment used to transport and create alcohol and they dumped the context from these stills into the rivers gutters and sewers of the united states now two of the more famous alcohol agents that work for the federal government was a to agent team that was known by the names isidor izzy einstein and most smith now is he in mo- for the most part worked out of new york city their abilities and techniques did take them across the united states from california texas georgia and even into the mountains of the appalachian says well izzy and moe compiled the best arrest record in the history of the federal agency that they worked for four thousand nine hundred thirty two arrest while confiscating five million bottles of alcohol. That's a lot of drink. Our law enforcement officer for today story. Deputy sheriff ben fowler.
