"Well, Hugh, the problem with the media is that it's become an open wing of the Democratic Party. Those numbers you just laid out are stark. The Washington Post bans the ramparts on behalf of an issue that is a very small niche issue in which public opinion, and including teen opinion, I'm quite sure, in the state of Virginia, strongly sides with Governor Duncan's common sense approach. That students, especially girls, need to have sports that are fair to them, where they can compete against other girls, and they need privacy when they go to the bathroom. But the Washington Post, as I said, is just a wing or an extension or an arm of the Democratic Party, as is most traditional media sources, and therefore they read like email newsletters from the Democratic National Party or their left-wing activist groups. Except they include my column, and then that gets all those people to engage and comment negatively. All right, Senator, I just think it's crazy. The second crazy story is from the Wall Street Journal. Headline, $100 a barrel oil is the Fed's next challenge. Well, here's a bulletin. No, it's not. It's Joe Biden's challenge. Am I right, or is the Wall Street Journal headline right? No, Hugh, you're right. I mean, it's a challenge in the sense that it's going to add inflationary pressures to our economy that are already pressing against it when you're up to $95 a barrel and gas is starting to bump back up against $4 a gallon. But this is not the Fed's fault. This is Joe Biden's fault. The President has repeatedly waged a war on oil, and not just oil, on coal and gas as well. And it's not surprising that Americans are paying record-high prices for gas and electricity and soon-to-be gasoline as well. I mean, just in recent weeks, he has taken out of the realm of exploration and production places that are actually in something called the National Petroleum Reserve, Hugh. And at every turn, his administration is trying to make it harder to produce American oil and gas and coal while they're continuing to subsidize Chinese manufactured wind and solar power, as well as electric vehicles that are too expensive and don't suit the needs of most Americans. Now, I want to point out to people, of the major oil producers in the world, there is Russia, our enemy, Iran, our enemy, Saudi Arabia, our estranged ally that Joe Biden can't figure out if he hates or likes, and us. And the only one that could offset the production cuts in the first three is us. And we're not doing that, Senator. And so, obviously, the cost of oil is going to go up. No, we're not at all. Again, Joe Biden, again, is undertaking every effort he can to hamstring American energy sources. And it doesn't just stop at our borders either, Hugh. You mentioned Saudi Arabia, our estranged ally.

The bite administration is going to bar drilling on millions of acres in Alaska. This is from Lisa Friedman over at The New York Times. In its most aggressive move yet to protect federal land from oil gas and gas exploration, the Biden administration announced on Wednesday that it would prohibit drilling in 13 million acres of pristine wilderness in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska and cancel all drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This is going to provide what the administration called maximum protection for about half of the entire petroleum to protect this treasured region. For all ages, canceling all remaining oil and gas leases issued under the previous administration in the Arctic Refuge and protecting more than 13 million acres in the Western Arctic will help preserve our Arctic lands and wildlife while honoring the culture, history, and enduring wisdom of Alaska natives who have lived on these lands since time immemorial. They had, you know, when Biden approved the Willow Project sometime back, it really pissed off environmentalists. And the Biden administration said, sorry, we'll try to make this bill do something good. And, you know, they went, I mean, you know, canceling oil and gas leases on 10 .6 million acres of petroleum reserve and making an additional 2 .4 million acres of land subject to strict to protect wildlife is actually bigger than the Willow Project, but still projects out there. So, you know, this ain't all wonderful, but it's a really good start. Yeah, Douglas Brinkley, the presidential historian at Rice University, said Biden was surprised by how angry environmental nonprofits were over Willow. And he's trying to get back in their good graces. Here's the problem, though, with this decision that was just announced. And it ties into I what was talking about in the previous half hour, which is that Saudi Arabia and Russia are trying right to now jack up oil prices worldwide. They're trying to do that specifically to swing in next year's election here in the United States. They know that if they can make inflation worse and then a make recession worse and then get gas prices above five dollars a gallon, that those things will make it very difficult for Joe Biden to win reelection. Even against Donald Trump and Saudi Arabia and Russia desperately want Donald Trump back in the White House, so do you. Republicans who have historically aligned themselves, not historically, but in the last decade, aligned themselves with both Putin and Saudi Arabia. so, And you know, Biden did the right the right thing by the climate here. He absolutely did. And I guarantee you that this fall and in particular next fall, when these price increases, these production cuts in oil that Russia and Saudi Arabia have done, lead to price increases. And those price increases lead to five, six, seven dollar a gasoline in the United States. That the number one main talking point that you will be hearing on the Sunday shows where all the Republican politicians go on and, you know, quack, quack, quack about, you you know, what they what they think about this, that and the other thing. They are going to be saying, yeah, this is all because, you know, you can cancel these oil leases. You've already got Vivek Ramaswamy out drill, baby, drill, like, you know. Desperate for the money from the fuel industry and the support. I mean, you know, let's face it, most of the much of the right wing infrastructure in the United States, from ALEC to the state policy centers to I mean, you know, it just goes on and on and on was started by right wing fossil fuel billionaires. And so, you know, if you're Ramaswamy or if you're any other Republican and you want to be seen as, you know, the guy who is a friend of petroleum, you lie about climate change, you have to be willing to destroy the planet, to destroy your children and grandchildren's future in exchange for your own short term profit and political gain. And that is exactly what the Republican Party is up to right now. know, And I think, you Ramaswamy is probably the most obvious example of it. But or Donald Trump, for that matter, the drill, baby, drill. I mean, keep in mind, it was Donald Trump who opened up this this land, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is opened to drilling by Donald Trump. It's in the northeastern corner of Alaska, it's home to grizzly bears, polar bears, snowy owls, migratory birds and herds of moose and caribou. Well, now it's going to be protected again. But I'm telling you, I'm I am predicting right now and mark my words and all that other kind of stuff. This is this is going this is going to come

"The left embodies the ancient Jewish notion, those who are kind to the cruel will be cruel to the kind. It's one of the 10 aphorisms I would say have guided my life that I learned as a child in Jewish school. It's a great, great line. That's correct. There are so many modifications of it that are valid. Those who are kind when they should be cruel, be cruel and they should be kind is a variation on that theme. Oh, Iran, please. We'll give you billions of dollars. You produce all the oil you want. But America? No way. He is so vile a human being, Joe Biden, that he would rather buy oil from Iran than have America produce it. And the entire left is vile and it would support it. But they go to bed thinking they're wonderful. That's why I think that's why I've said so often. The conscience is a pretty crappy guide because bad people have very clear consciences. They all do. If their conscience bothered them, they wouldn't do what they're doing. Oh, so, so much for the conscience. Mr. Manchin is a senator from West Virginia who should become a Republican. That would be that would be a helpful move. Who faces a potentially difficult race should he run for reelection next year, said the administration was, quote, caving to the radical left with no regard for clear direction from Congress or American energy security. So why do you stay a Democrat? If the administration is caving in and the entire Democratic Party, except for you, goes along with it, why do you stay a Democrat, Senator Manchin? He has no answer. He truly has no answer. I have no answer. Well, how can I if he doesn't have an answer, I don't. The Wall Street Journal editorializes on this. That was all from The New York Times. Oil prices have climbed this week after Saudi Arabia and Russia extended their production cuts. Of course, this didn't happen under President Donald Trump, did it? No. You understand how everything is energy related? Everything. The cost of everything you buy is energy related. The trucks. I spoke to you two days ago about the trucks. The law that there will have to be electric trucks. And how completely destructive that idea is. And by the way, it's insignificant with regard to global warming. Insignificant. While China keeps building coal-powered energy plants. The Interior Department on Wednesday canceled seven oil and gas leases in Alaska's national Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, ANWR, ANWR, I guess. It will be pronounced and moved to limit development on 13 million acres in the state's National Petroleum Reserve. President Biden is delivering on the most ambitious climate and conservation agenda in history, Secretary Deb Haaland said yesterday. That's H-A-A-L-A-N-D. She's the Interior Secretary. It's pathetic. Its climate agenda is the most lawless and economically destructive in history. This is the Wall Street Journal, which is as moderate conservative as exists. The most lawless and economically destructive in history. Mr. Biden on his first day in office imposed a leasing moratorium on ANWR. Now, Ms. Haaland is revoking seven ANWR leases issued by the Trump administration in January 2021. What can't the government do? Big is bad. Big government. Big labor. Big education. Big corporations. Tell me what is big and good. We return. The Wall Street Journal is pointing out the horror of what is being done in the name of the environment. Please understand, as I have said for years, you know that the purpose is to destroy the West and America in particular. The environment is the excuse, but if they cared about the environment and America, they would be for nuclear power. That is the proof that their primary agenda is the weakening of the United States. Russia is drilling in the Arctic and using it as a shipping route to deliver oil to China. The administration's on restrictions on US Arctic oil and gas development amount to unilateral energy disarmament. That is right. Unilateral energy disarmament. Energy is the most important thing in the world in terms of economy of a country. Economy of a country means how people live the quality of their life materially. But almost every environmentalist comes from an upper-middle class or upper-class home. This is a rich white man movement. That is what it is. Basically, a white woman. Let me not forget. These are the bored secular like Al Gore who flies to environmentalist conferences on his about, but it proves that they're not prepared to be affected by the way they hurt other people. The Biden re-election campaign ran an ad during Thursday's NFL kickoff touting the president's economic agenda, including his supposed success in making the US more energy independent. Oh my God. I didn't know that. I had read this, but I didn't remember reading that. It's painful what a gigantic lie that is. There is no lie that Donald Trump told in four years that compares to the lies of the Biden administration. Not one. Name me a destructive lie, okay? He exaggerated the number of people in his inauguration. He exaggerated this. He did this. Tell me a destructive lie that compares to that. Just this. We are going to be energy independent as he is buying more oil from Venezuela, Iran, and other countries. But half of America believes it. His administration's relentless war on fossil fuels has left Americans more vulnerable to Mr. Putin's tender mercies and dependent on China for green energy. US gasoline prices have risen 60 cents a gallon this year as Saudi Arabia and Russia command the oil market. There is a party in this country devoted to weakening America. They're devoted. Look at what they're doing to the armed forces. How did that happen? How does a good country produce so many despicable people? How does it do that? There's something deformed in the psyche of these people on the left. They've been given such freedom, such affluence, such opportunity. And they wish to destroy it all. This is proof. Now, you may say, well, there's a reason we're saving the world from global warming. There's a reason that we are weakening the military, because it's important that men who say that they are women and women who say they are men serve in the armed forces. OK, you can say anything you like, but you can't deny that every institution is being weakened by the left. The administration flogs jobs created by its green energy subsidies. But how many more are its climate policies destroying? Yeah, how many more jobs? Employment in oil and gas extraction is 15% lower than before the pandemic. OK, well, that's the case. A nurse who has practiced for 39 years has written a painful article about the destruction of the Mayo Clinic by the left. If all I did, and it's a lot of what I do on the radio, were to document the destruction of the left, it would be a service. I could do that solely, that could fill up three hours a day. The Mayo Clinic, it was once like everything. These things were once great institutions, but the left destroys everything it touches. The next destruction by the left, the Mayo Clinic, it's painful. But it's in Minnesota. Not surprising. At least its headquarters is. They have major campuses in Florida and Arizona. So a nurse, Laura Morgan, 39 years a practicing nurse, I urged hundreds if not thousands of patients to consider seeking additional care at the Mayo Clinic. I can no longer in good conscience recommend this once prestigious institution. The Mayo Clinic is now fully and unashamedly woke. Interesting, isn't it, that I pointed out before I ever knew this, that they lied on their website when they wrote that cigar smoking is as dangerous as cigarette smoking. It was a pure lie. And it is interesting because you know how I was a lone voice, even on the right, in saying the war on tobacco, and everybody acknowledges cigarettes, lead many people to premature death. I fully acknowledge that from the beginning. But I knew they lied about secondhand smoke, and I knew that once you start lying in the stop, and they don't stop. They lied about lockdowns for children, right? It was a total lie. They knew it was crap. They knew it hurt children. They didn't give a damn. Because control is a pleasure. It is a joy for the left. They don't control other people's lives, driving cars, heating their house, sending their kids to school. They don't feel alive. The Mayo Clinic is now fully and unashamedly woke. And worse, it is aggressively pushing its divisive agenda on the rest of healthcare. This is a clinical nurse. The Mayo Clinic's dissent is deeply troubling because it occupies a unique place in medicine with its wildly popular website. I rely as a nurse on Mayo's professional development tools, and physicians across the country depend on Mayo's continuing education courses, which cover an astounding 42 topics and specialties. So it matters when the Mayo Clinic pledges a staggering $100 million to the woke agenda as it did last fall. Wow. Ready? What are they spending $100 million on? Eliminating racism and advancing equity and inclusion. And improving health equity. The money is going to conferences, courses, and communications that are designed to shape the entire medical field around divisive and discriminatory ideology. I participated in one such event in early August, last month, Mayo's two-day Rise for Equity event, which offered in-person and virtual attendance for continuing education credit designed for professionals, including hospitals, administrators, and others with a goal of advancing and directing policy programs and institutional initiatives. I encountered nothing but indoctrination. I was told in no uncertain terms that racial and social injustice is a known public health threat. That's right. I learned tips for recognizing and addressing microaggressions. Wow. Do you know you must understand the microaggression notion? I actually printed in an article. You can find it yourself. Just google University of California microaggressions. You will see what ideas are listed as a micro racist aggression. If you say, for example, that there is only one race, the human race, you're a racist. If you say you want to be colorblind, you're a racist. The world of morality is inverted by the left. It's inverted. Good is bad and bad is good. Here, here's an example. Oh, my theory on microaggressions. Why is it micro? Because there are so few macro. There's so little racism in America that they have to make up things that are racist. Like, I try to be colorblind. I was told about, this is the nurse writing. She went to a Mayo conference. Mayo is becoming male. I was told about systemic biases in physical space and that ideas such as meritocracy and colorblindness are myths. Meritocracy is a myth. It's the only reason, or the biggest single reason, North America succeeded in South America, much less so. In South America, people were hired and advanced based on blood ties. In North America, based on merit. But they hate that. They hate the idea that people advance by merit. Because it means that the left is not in control. You get it? That's the whole issue. We determine winners. If merit determines winners, we on the left have no role. Anyway, what does that have to do with the Mayo Clinic? Don't you want doctors produced on the basis of merit? Well, your airplane pilots on United won't be. They admit it. They're reserving half their spaces at the United Airlines pilot school for women and minorities. They admit we are not choosing pilots based on merit. We are choosing half of them based on race and sex, or as they say, gender. That'll make you want to fly United Airlines, won't it? And then if you don't, you'll be called sexist, misogynist, and racist. Back in a moment. I'm going to play for you the ad that was... What was it on? The NFL game of the week, or the Thursday night game? What was it played on? Last night, the Kansas City Detroit, which by the way, Detroit won. Sean is very surprised that I know that. I know he is. It's fascinating. He doesn't realize how much I know about sports. For good reason. Anyway, this was the ad played. This is amazing. It gives chutzpah a new meaning. And I will analyze it and show you why. Go ahead. They said millions would lose their jobs and the economy would collapse. But this president refused to let that happen. Instead, he got to work, fixing supply chains, fighting corporate greed, passing laws to lower the cost of medicine, cut utility bills, and make us more energy independent. Today, inflation is down to 3%, unemployment, the lowest in decades. There's more to do, but President Biden is getting results that matter. I'm Joe Biden, and I approve this message. Wow, I could spend the hour on that ad. Cut utility bills? Does anybody listening have a lower utility bill, thanks to Joe Biden? Or thanks to any Democrat? Lower utility bills. Cut inflation to 3%. Do you know that that statistic is so phony as to border the pathologic? Do you know that it doesn't count food and gas? Do you know that? I've not been able to establish why we have such a phony inflation statistic coming out of the government. It doesn't count what matters most. Food. So if food has doubled, the inflation rate is not affected. Not affected. So everybody listening, and that's, you know, every class of American watches a football game. They are living the opposite of the ad that was just played for them. They are living the opposite. But it works. People can be told the opposite of what they believe. You think men should be allowed to compete with women? 99% of Americans would say no. But what if the man says he's a woman? Then the well-educated say absolutely yes. "So, by these policies that I am reading to you with regard to right now, the massive amount of stopping of drilling, just by presidential fiat, it wouldn't go past through Congress, but it doesn't matter. The entire Alaska delegation, New York Times, condemned Mr. Biden's decision to prohibit drilling in 13 million acres of pristine wilderness in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska and cancel all drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Senator Lisa Murkowski's Republican coal decision reckless and illegal. I don't know why it's legal. Is there anything that Democrats believe the president cannot do? I don't have an answer to that question. Now the Biden administration, this is a quote from her, at a time when America and our allies need Alaska's resources more than ever, has decided to go their own way by further locking Alaska down while refusing to consult with the Alaska natives who actually live on the North Slope, Senator Murkowski said in a statement. It's bad enough to tear up legal contracts and renege on federal commitments, but it's even more unconscionable that the Biden administration is penalizing Alaska right as it allows Iran to produce more of its oil and solicits the same from Venezuela.

"Go now to Joe Biden's White House speech? I wish you would. We're going to the president is in complete control of the border. There is no open border and he's not worried at all. He gave a speech at The White House yesterday, cut number 7. I declared the entire U.S. article off limits to new oil and gas development period. We ran the process and protect more than 13 millionaire, 13 million acres of significant natural historic value in the Alaskan national petroleum reserve. And I protected the boundary waters of canoe area, wilderness, surrounding wetlands in Minnesota. Look, that's the most serialized we are we have energy inflation. We have energy inflation and the president is bragging on shutting down oil production in Alaska. And we want electric cars for which we need rare earth minerals not from China or dug up by ten year old boys in the Congo. And that actually is in the boundary waters. Tidal basin. It's in the watershed of the boundary waters. It's not inside the park. And he won't let Minnesota twin mining or twin mines, I believe it's called. They won't let them dig. So

Separately The White House announced that nearly 3 million acres of the Beaufort sea would be closed off from oil exploration and drilling would be limited to protect wildlife in more than 13 million acres in the national petroleum reserve. This is the time where we start to talk about lanes in a race. We know who Donald Trump is. We know who his supporters are for the most part and how solid they are. We know that Florida governor Ron DeSantis occupies a big outsized space and we just saw him in Iowa and Nevada just in the last couple of days. It's what's happened is that in addition to everything else that's happening people around the world particularly in Europe and in China are switching from some natural gas to switching to oil and so suddenly you've had this upward pressure on oil demand that wasn't in the forecast a month ago because you know people didn't see this energy crisis coming a month ago How hard it is with a power plant to convert from natural gas to oil Most of them can not do that but dual fire capacity is something that's built into some plants that have been there usually there for years And I don't think anybody particularly expected that they would be switching back to oil but the price of natural gas if it's landing in Europe today is LNG's equivalent of $200 a barrel So oil is by comparison is certainly cheaper On the crude front alone we've seen that vitamin C and sometimes react once encouraging OPEC plus to increase production And now there's talk at least about the petroleum reserve national petroleum reserve although as I understand it they suggested and walked it back Are there things that the bottom administration could do to take some of the sting out of the crude prices I think what they'll do is what they did in August they'll go back to OPEC plus and OPEC countries and say can you put some more oil into the market because obviously anybody who's been around Washington for as long as Joe Biden knows that high gasoline prices are not good for incumbents And so I think we're going to be hearing more from the administration They don't have a lot of tools because this is unlike other crises in this is not starting with oil This is starting with natural gas LNG supplies being very tight coal being incredibly tight and the wind not flowing in the North Sea which is of produces a special part of Northern Europe's electricity And then of course you have China that I mean in a sense it's really started when China went into over drive is the workshop of the world during COVID and its demand really went up And it ran into its coal ceiling and it's pulled up natural gas prices And that's what's radiated out to the entire world And China is now rationing electricity effectively So Dan you point out a lot of the starts with natural gas So let's go to natural gas Could we have the kind of price spike in the United States that they're seeing over in Europe I don't think so I mean natural gas prices have about doubled They're doubled for two reasons here One is inventories are low and people are looking to the winter And two because coal supplies are so tight actually you have fuel switching from coal to people using natural gas to generate electricity So that's what's really caused the doubling And we have a lot of gas in this country but we don't have quite enough pipelines to move it around Is that something that the volume of social media to take a look at There's some irony that's right because the Biden system wants to cut back on fossil fuels And right now we need more of them for the time being Well I think there's going to be a big rethink and certainly rethinking Europe about the timing I looked at natural gas production domestically in Europe It's down 20% So there's going to be a question of timing in terms of cutting back on conventional supplies when you don't really have the capacity there to replace it And by the way with electricity you need reliable supplies and when your wind can go wind electricity can drop by 50 or 60% you need an alternative which is natural gas So it will be striking or at least interesting to see the degree to which the administration looks again at the domestic energy supply situation And realizing that what's happened with the U.S. means self sufficient in oil self sufficient natural gas gives us a lot of flexibility that other countries don't have And Dan one of the things we've seen over the last couple of weeks is some talking in Europe of the need to perhaps ration We might actually have some curtailing of some of the power for heating over the winter Is there a danger of that happening in the United States No I don't think in the United States but I don't think that's the case Unless we have a bad really bad winter then this shortage of coal and then the gas but I don't think so And the whole question now is it all comes down to whether or if we have the markets are anticipating cold winter was called last year That's one reason inventories are down If it's cold we're going to have more problems And we'll see it more in prices If we don't have a code winter then this will ease up But the speeds into inflation And along with this supply chain disruptions affects the kind of reconstruct economic recovery we've seen Expect China to slow "And radio I'm David Westin We have some breaking news right now about Goldman Sachs The report across the turtle is that they are suspending the municipal bond business in the state of Texas They're not the first bank to do that Some other U.S. banks have done it as well Texas just recently passed a statute saying they would not do business with banks like JPMorgan or city or Goldman who had curtailed their own interaction with companies that are involved in guns and in climate issues And so now apparently Goldman is for at least for the time being suspended its business in the state of Texas Want to turn now to something very important to the state of Texas That's crude oil Price of crude is on the move again climbing to over $80 even as natural gas prices have come down just a little bit but they are still elevated When it comes to energy no one knows it better than Dan Jurgen vice chairman of IHS market and author most recently of the new map energy climate and the clash of nations So Dan thanks so much for being with us Let's start with crude first of all it's spiking up today We saw city come on say they think it's going to $90 It's over 80 now Where do you think it's heading Well I think it's certainly could go to $90 It's what's happened is that in addition to everything else that's happening people around the world particularly in Europe and in China are switching from some natural gas to switching to oil and so suddenly you've had this upward pressure on oil demand that wasn't in the forecast a month ago because you know people didn't see this energy crisis coming a month ago So let me pick up on that very specific question because I'm curious about it How hard it is with a power plant to convert from natural gas to oil Well most of them can not do that but dual fired capacity is something that's built into some plants and they've been there you know usually there for years And I don't think anybody particularly expected that they would be switching back to oil but the price of natural gas if it's landing in Europe today is LNG is equivalent of $200 a barrel So oil is by comparison is certainly cheaper On the crude front alone we've seen the Biden restrictions sometimes react Once encouraging OPEC plus to increase production And now there's talk at least about the petroleum reserve national petroleum reserve although as I understand it they suggest and walked it back Are there things that the Biden administration could do to take some of the sting out of the crude prices I think what they'll do is what they did in August They'll go back to OPEC plus and OPEC countries and say can you put some more oil into the market Because obviously anybody who's been around Washington for as long as Joe Biden knows that high up And it ran into its coal ceiling and it's pulled up natural gas prices And that's what's radiated out to the entire world and China is now rationing electricity effectively So Dan you point out a lot to start with natural gas So let's go to natural gas Could we have the kind of price bike in the United States that they're seeing over in Europe I don't think so I mean the natural gas prices have about doubled They've doubled for two reasons here One is inventories are low and people are looking to the winter and two because coal supplies are so tight Actually you have fuel switching from coal to people using natural gas to generate electricity So that's what's really caused the doubling And we have a lot of gas in this country but we don't have quite enough pipelines to move it around Is that something that the volume of social media had to take a look at There's some irony to this right Because the Biden system wants to cut back on fossil fuels And right now we need more of them for the time being Well I think there's going to be a big rethink at certain rethinking Europe about the timing I looked at this morning at natural gas production domestically in Europe is down 20% So there's going to be a question of timing in terms of cutting back on conventional supplies when you don't really have the capacity there to replace it And by the way with electricity you need reliable supplies and when your wind can go wind electricity can drop by 50 or 60% you need an alternative which is natural gas So it will be striking or at least interesting to see that the grade to which the administration looks again at the domestic energy supply situation And realizing that what's happened with the U.S. being self sufficient in oil self sufficient natural gas gives us a lot of flexibility that other countries don't have Dan we've heard from Qatar today which is pretty wealthy when it comes to natural gas Actually expressing some concern about the natural gas prices spiking so high Is there a risk of demand destruction when it comes to natural gas Well I think that's already happening because you have factories in Europe that are basically shutting down furloughing workers because it's completely average needs Natural gas to make fertilizer it's just too expensive to operate So that's when you talk about demand destruction You talk about factories not where people using less energy in China they're even telling people don't take the elevator if you're just going up two or three floors So I think prices like this there's always a backlash in the market in terms of a negative impact on demand Mister Putin the president of Russia going to bail us out He came out and sort of quieted the markets last week and saying you know we might be able to supply some more although there might be a few conditions attached to that Well you know one thing about Putin that people have observed over the years is that there's a lot about the natural gas business and people meet at this a staff almost like a CEO talking about gas And so Russia has some extra capacity to put in But they've been concerned that their inventories for the winter are also low And so they've been you know they've met their contracts but they haven't more gases in the market They could put some more gas into the market They need people wanting to buy it but probably not a lot but they could certainly they could put some in and you know when Putin speaks people do listen That's for sure And Dan one of the things we've seen over the last couple of weeks is some talk in Europe about the need to perhaps ration You might actually have some curtailing of some of the power for heating over the winter Is there a danger of that happening in the United States No I don't think in the United States but I don't think that's the case Unless we have a bad really bad winter Then this shortage of coal and then the gas but I don't think so And I mean the whole question now is it all comes down to weather If we have the markets are anticipating cold winter was called last year That's one reason inventories are down If it's cold we're going to have more problems and we'll see it more in prices If we don't have a cold winter then this will ease up But certainly this ties into what you were talking about just before with Tyler good speed This feeds into inflation And along with this supply chain disruptions affects the kind of strong economic recovery we've seen expect China to slow down We've just lowered our forecast for U.S. growth this year from 5.7 to 5.4% And I suspect it will go lower as these problems persist You gave us an estimate on the crude side could go up to 90 the way cities talking about what on natural gas do you have an upside risk number on that You mean in the United States Yes In the United States I think that we're probably in a 5 $6 range unless something really bizarre happens for a while And we used to be in that sort of $3 range So it is definitely a doubling and NFTs right to the economy And not only in terms of people's home heating but in terms of industry there's a lot of investment there's hundreds of billions of dollars that have gone into investment into the United States because we have a competitive advantage in terms of gas prices over much of the rest of the world We still do because the other prices are so much higher You truly are the expert when it comes to energy great to talk to you today That's Dan Jurgen He's IHS market vice chairman Coming up Southwest Airlines.
