"Whether your school is open or not. I hope you're new whatever you can keep dining even though it may have been many months since you have been to school going lose whole and don't give up on your education. I know you have dreams ambitions. And i believe you can make this world of it all begins with education. Go back to school as soon as it's safe. And that's mala yousafzai the nobel peace prize winner The continue as you talk about the ground women and girls are losing and then what is being done. How people are resisting this and what you think. Also governments need to do. I think the last area. I wanna really talk about is what's happening to frontline. Workers everywhere in the world and during the pandemic was really honored and privileged to have a frontline seat to what's happening to nurses in america. I work with national nurses united as you know one of the biggest and most effective and radical nurses unions in the country and i interviewed many nurses on the frontline. As a matter of fact we created this beautiful piece called that kindness out of those nurses which was done at brooklyn academy of music and then traveled across the country. And i watched from months before you go on. I just wanted to play a clip from the doc you play that kindness nurses in their own words based on those interviews. You talked about with nurses early on in the pandemic the play produced in partnership with the national nurses union. This is actor del souls. We're not expendable. My family is not expendable. My husband is not expendable mike. Grandchildren not expendable daughter. I mean kobe unit. She goes straight home showers immediately. She leaves her shoes outside. Those in showers doesn't touch. Your kids doesn't touch you. The goes and showers and packs of clothes so that they don't get exposed to what she was exposed to during the day. We have a say in an n. You you save one life. You're a hero. you say. The hundred lives your nurse. An excerpt from docu play that kindness made with national nurses united v continue. Well i love that last little i. It's so brilliant. But you know so. I watched for months as we all did. Nurses having ruling twelve hour shifts making agonizing choices and just acting as midwives to death having to choose between who lived and who died and then on their short lunch breaks. They had to protest over the fact that they had no personal protective equipment which put them an even greater danger. We witnessed women wearing garbage bags for months instead of gowns and we using mass that were infecting them and being forced to stay on the job with fevers in the same way that no one thought what it would mean to lock women with children and women in houses with abusers. No-one pre thought what would be like to send nurses into an extremely contagious pandemic without proper equipment and that is a form of violence Then again i've talked to warehouse workers who packing and shipping with no protections women who worked in poultry factors who were forced to work in close proximity who had fevers who were forced to keep going on the job and then you know i have worked for years with one fair wage. I just did a demonstration with them last week. Their their their salary is still two dollars and thirteen cents. An hour which it has been for the last twenty two years and now there's a new development called masculine harassment. Which is that. Men are insisting women who were wearing masks who are waiting on them pulled down their masks so they can look at their faces to determine if they're pretty enough to get a tip. Okay these are just horrible notions and things that are escalating throughout the pandemic. Spoke to women farmworkers in this country. Millie driven associated at alleanza. Who tells me that feeling farm workers have been have more incidents of pesticide poisoning sexual abuse and heat stress because nobody is watching and no one has their eyes on them to protect them. And i think in the end as you said at the beginning. What khalid has revealed is that patriarchy is here. It hasn't gone away. It rises in disaster. And if we don't really address it now if we don't say that we have to take on bullhead head as a system that is literally ruling and controlling our destinies out the planet We're going to be spinning our wheels forever. And so the resistance that people are organizing around the world and you have always been a leader of that talking about v day and twenty fifth anniversary of the vagina monologues. You're calling for a global initiative on the scale of the marshall plan to deconstruct. Two eggs are cise patriarchy so critical. I want to say that. I think one of the things before i get to addressing that it's been so moving to see how many women are rising in the face of everything that's going on in spite of risk of infection in spite of poverty in spite of horrible conditions in their communities. I mean we saw in one billion rising this year. Thousands of women rising our theme was one billion rising gardens. Women planted gardens. I think there were ten thousand gardens that were planted nine thousand and in india for example across the whole country but all over the world women rowers women fought back. Women stood up to governments. Women demanded all kinds of protection in spite of the rest of their lives. I want to say. I've been doing this work for so long. Twenty five years and longer every day day in and day out at if we don't really get to the root of what patriarchy is we will be here forever. So i really am envisioning this large global initiative to deconstruct and exercise patriarchy. That would burst. We'd have to acknowledge that. It's the root of so many other forms of oppression from imperialism to racism from transform to the denigration of the earth. And then there would be an ongoing education public forums processes studying. How patriarchy leads to those forms of oppression. We would use art to expunge trauma and grief and anger in the culture and help people heal and make people whole and we would understand that a culture that has diabolical and nesia which is certainly this country and refuses to address. Its past only repeat. It's misfortunes and abuses. And i think we would have community centers dedicated to trauma and we would study arts listening and empathy and reparations and apology but we really have to say we need to focus on patriarchy as something wheel as a system and we need to dismantle it as a world the award winning playwright founder vide in one billion rising linked to your new piece in the guardian disaster patriarchy how the pandemic has unleashed a war on women. I mainly goodman be saying..

Now They say that people of color are at risk of anything and therefore it's bad and we must do something without not without really Any proof. They job. People like our parents. We gotta stop. You gotta stop doing X y and Z because people of color people of color. Um okay, whatever. Why? Why can't people choose to live their lives? Go get vaccinated. By the way. What has missed is that the White House is roughly two thirds of adults in this country now are vaccinated. So you know what they're doing now You know what they're doing. They're now trying to shame you for the Children when I was on City Council in Macon, Georgia. God help me worse job I ever had. It was the Children. We've got to do it for the Children there. Everything was for the Children we got we got. We got to defund the police for the Children. We gotta raise taxes for the Children. We've got a private. We can't privatize that the trash trucks. "And she plays the race card, which did Cole did the largest national Nurses union is saying that the CDC guidelines on mass is putting frontline workers, especially people of color at rest, and that they're they're calling for the CDC to refers that what's the White House stands on that union in particular, saying that Their members and people of color. A risk in gauge keeps saying people of color and people of color people of color. She was talking about the United Nurses Union. She wasn't talking about the United White nurse's Union or Black Museum. It's a nurse's union. It has all colors in it, okay, and as all backgrounds and but she kept throwing in people of color, So matter of fact, I decided to go beyond that narrative. That little headline narrative there and look into the This is this is hurt the people of the black and brown communities so much more than the white communities actually went into the CDC. Percentages off black people versus percentage of black people in the state and percentage that have died and saying what Hispanic, same with Asians and with every group I think Except for two states. It was right in line with the percentage of population. Yeah, Mike ran him down is like within two or 3% points. So if if the If one state has 17% black community, then it was 17, or 18% deaths in the community for covert. It was the same this whole narrative that it disproportionately impacted. Communities of color is absolutely false. Bingo. But it's not the narrative they want. And this is where the crazy part gets in because We have to admit that there are limits on human knowledge. There are limits on what we know about covert 19. We don't even know where when you say limits on human knowledge. He looked right at me right now. Okay? Not to you. Okay, But do you think? Yes, exactly. We don't even know where covert 19 came from. We do know that was oddly catered to human beings and how contagious it actually is without jumping from animal to animal like others, But that being said our limits on that. Cause problems for Anthony Fauci and the doctors at the CDC and elsewhere because they were.

We didn't just barge into business. Right right they were expecting. The goal again was to connect with people that most candidates in most campaigns not just presidential just looked over and what was profound for me. Was it touched people that a presidential campaign like this was an official bernie. Sanders campaign event wanted to be in their barbershop. He's much better than donald trump Service ad. he is nice he. Donald trump sucks back play that it really cracks me up to two. Here's as impression of me. And then how like how she says. Donald trump sucks. gosh okay. well can't use. This still cussing right one of the things that i would do. I would go and speak to the campaign staff and volunteers to to encourage them because a lot of times what we were asking them to do was to knock on doors and make phone calls day and night day and night night in part of my job was to go there and encourage them in some ways. I'm just like i'm making an appearance. But i i was trying to related them. Just how important their work was now. I knew that if we were going to win california i said we had to win orange county and we had to win los angeles and all of that is true but i knew there was no way we can win california. If we didn't win san francisco yeah so you would. You went and helped speak to volunteers and this office and actually learned a lot. Sometimes you'll talk. Als on you out but i'll be learning so much but this time i listened and i listened to you and i listened to the other person michael light who who spoke about medicare for all. Yeah and i was like. Oh wow michael light. He worked for national nurses union for a big chunk of his life in his a medicare for all expert and we felt strongly that that is part of what was on the table and And we will try to break those things down not just for staff who kind of knew those issues forwards and backwards but we would. We would be doing michael. And i did. Maybe six or seven events together and We were trying to just educate fears so that when they knocked on doors and made phone calls. Yeah I we'RE GONNA probably go for another half an hour so I'm not going to take phone calls today. I want everybody to be able to go home and including myself and these guys get out I will. I will be taking phone calls. I'm going to set it up so I can take phone calls and I am. The whole kit and caboodle. So we will get in on that and I'm going to be doing live streams and we're trying to set it up so that it will Streaming audio through the APP when we do the livestream as well try to figure out how to do that And we're working on the APP so that it gives notifications so that you'll know when I'm going live if you get the APP go get the APP majority APP dot com if you become a member then you know also we put video through there but you can also see you Tuba. Watch Youtube there too and Matthew Film guys telling me I think he has. A lot of that stuff digitized. We will not be doing with a bad situation. I mean if we're not that that stays on DVD if we if we can fit a whole episode into the RSS feed. You could fit those movies in there. Too are without doubt. The movie can go in and and a pilot season. And I think we have extras. I think WE HAVE EXTRAS ON PILOT. Season. I'm not sure about that but we'll see I've got a bunch of other ideas to all right. Let's go over the debate I'll be honest with you. I think there was a very high bar that Bernie had to achieve in the debate to change the trajectory of this election. I think the you know to the extent that there was already a pre existing sort of like a sense among the democratic electorate of like. Just tell us who's going to win will vote for that guy now. I think that's been exacerbated by this whole corona virus thing like. I don't have time to invest in this. Fight this this this sort of this. Not even this fight like I don't have time to invest in this question. That's just my sense. I hope I'm wrong. And who knows what's GonNa Happen with the election on Tuesday. Tomorrow you got four States Arizona Florida Arizona Florida lot of elderly people. Well we'll talk about that in a second. Let's let's go over the debate so in the debate. What is this would number clip is? This is number one. Yeah One interesting moment and this is a moment. Frankly that I think like look Joe Biden. Got Up there and he just told bald-faced lies about his record on social security just totally bald-faced lies and Iraq and Iraq as well. I mean we've covered these things and frankly like you know in the age of trump right like you would want a little bit more less on even if it was something like look. I made a mistake made a mistake with Iraq when I pry proposed though social security cuts. It was a different era. We didn't have the same wealth disparity We didn't have the same. You could come up with a whole bunch of other sort of like not so much lies but fudges a little bit in one thousand nine hundred eighty six. We had you know there was a crunch when it came to the social security benefits There was a lot of deficit hysteria and I got caught up in it or but he just lied about it. He lied about it. And actually you're lying about my line. Here's a moment where I think Joe Biden tried to lie as a way of deflecting and instead of doing the classic like look. I'm not going to unilaterally disarm. You have a lot more money than me. I don't know where that comes from. And you know so you can look at my website but nevertheless you have a lot more money than I do. I'm trying to keep my money low. That's why I'm only taking Super Bhagwati. Whatever you come up with some other like explanation instead he throws ally and Bernie calls on it but maybe not hard enough economy that works for all. You WanNa do that to what I propose over. Thirty years ago federally funded all elections no private contributions election process. If you WanNa do that join me. Join me my constitutional amendment that I've been proposing. Maybe you and I can work on that together because that would fundamentally change it. And the implication is I'm getting these I've not accepted a country region or anybody over twenty eight hundred dollars number one. My average contribution is forty four dollars just this month. I've raised thirty three million dollars average contribution fifty one dollars. Pasi idea that now. Why is he doing this? This is something that he sat down and memorized and it was very important for him to show that he was competent. By throwing out these numbers. He's got this down in fact. I'm not convinced that he didn't walk right up to the podium when they got on there and wrote it down on his nuts maybe they're allowed to bring notes bridge contribution fifty one dollars. The idea that this is Bernie's implication is some odd. They've been funded by millionaires. Brian Look in the last Super Tuesday. And before that Bernie outspend me two three four five six to one and I still want. I didn't have any money. I still want Senator Sanders. It's good that you had an thirty years ago. I don't want to join you. Wanted to join me. Why don't you get rid of the SUPERPAC that you have right now? Which is running very ugly negative ads about me. Don't laugh Joe. And that's just the truth and they got super pacs running ads against us. Why don't you just say right now? Go on television and say hey you know what I think in the past joe about mistaken you condemned super pacs that correct you in the nine super pacs you have nine. Zubaydah Mommy list. Yeah go ahead. Let's come on. GimMe y you'll break on this. One Jo wait now keep going. We have more after he goes. He should have gone after those nine breath. You get rid of the nine super facts. You have nine mommy list. Yeah go ahead. Let's come on. GimMe a break. No I won't of your break. On this one you condemn Super Pacs. You gotTA SUPERPAC is running. They're gonNA but here's the point. This is the point in the richest country in the history of the world. Okay posit and and look. I think is a big missed opportunity. You Know Joe Biden is just lied. About how many super pacs supporting a burning and we do have a list of of three super PACs. Oh No yeah. Are you ready for this? Oh No everything is one is. Where is this Oh here it is okay you ready for this lays in the super PACs. That support Bernie Sanders the sunrise movement. That's the that is the climate change the youth climate change activists. I mean it is a and a super PAC affiliated with the National Nurses Union and then also our revolution. Our Revolution took only six donations over five thousand dollars in two thousand nineteen and none larger than twenty five thousand it also posts all the names of all donors who give more than two hundred fifty bucks all right so aside from the fact that it's a lie about. I think there was a nurse's pack to right. I said the nurses so there were three technically super pacs what I would have done if I was Bernie Sanders Joe. You say I had nine super pacs. Why don't you tell everybody all nine that get out of here guy? No I'm serious. You'RE GONNA make this accusation. Which is why I want to hear about it. Because I've never heard this before you tell us Joe Name I'll tell you what name eight get. Outta here. How about? How about named six? How about name five? How about named four? How name three? This is the problem Joe. Is you say things and sometimes they turn out not to be true like that time you got arrested in South Africa or like that time that you weren't on the Senate floor calling for the cuts in social security or that you didn't know what you were voting for in Iraq even though you've praised him three months later George Bush and said that we needed to go in. That was the moment folks. That was the moment now. I don't know if Bernie Sanders just was not. That's not what he wanted to do that. He felt that that would be too much. But if you wanted a moment where you could roll all the things into it which show his weaknesses and perhaps get him to Flab. Which is what needed to happen. There needed to be basically an unforced error. That was in some way nudged. Well it didn't need to be nudged but this is a perfect opportunity for sanders. To Nudge. That unforced error because he was making a lie and he was he was he was attacking sanders in a completely agila illegitimate way and Sanders. Just did not take advantage of that moment. That's not sanders character. It's not his character. It is not his character. Can tell you I can tell you. I am sure that he was being Just like they don't care about your damn emails exactly. I'm sure he was being advised. But and it's unfortunate from my perspective that it's not as characters but maybe he wouldn't be the same you know it's hard to sort of pick and choose particularly when you're talking about people in their seventy s very hard to sort of say like. Hey you know that part that you've been riding on for the past You know sixty years that is made you who you are. Well you just jettison one little tiny part of that. But that's that here is Joe Biden telling those lies about.

"Today. The stock market suffered its worst decline since the nineteen eighty-seven stock market crash for the full. Economic implications of the crisis have only begun. Afl CIO president. Richard Trumka on American workers need to get through this crisis next market plus the market. Plunge today down ten percent because they are pricing in the enormous decrease in economic activity. That's going to happen the US around the world as we all collectively battle this pandemic it's going to have just enormous effects working people around this country thing about the news. We got in the last twenty four hours for instance the NBA suspending the rest of the season that impacts all the people working in the arenas selling concessions taking tickets. Broadway shows here New Yorker shutting down which means everyone from the ushers to the stagehands won't be working and office. Buildings are closing more people shift to work from home which leaves security guards and cleaning crews among others out of work the government is going to have to step up in a huge way to make sure working people in this country and people who aren't working but need money people without much money. People were already struggling. Are taking care of your talk about that. Richard Trumka present-day Elsia which represents more than twelve and a half million working people. What is your what are your conversations like inside the Labor movement with your members about what you want to see happen in terms of both the workplace in dealing with this and then the federal response well our members Have sort of been left in the Lurch Chris This administration has made a series of blunders that have left us and workers holding the bag if you will when they first came in there a occupational disease workplace standard occupational disease. Those about to be passed. It would have required employers to have a plan to educate their employees and then have proper safety equipment online so that frontline people like hospital workers. Emt's were protected. They scrapped that rule and then immediately after that this administration scrapped the rule that President Bush started when he had a pandemic disease coordination and infrastructure team And President Obama built on that he then scrapped that Osha. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration that is supposed to protect. Our health and safety has fewer inspectors and health specialists than they've ever had in their history and they've been without a leader for two years this administration. Chris spent twelve times more on immigration enforcement than they did. Worker health and safety. So as a result of that we've been left in the Lurch and we've had to train ourselves and we've done that we've tried to help. Our members educate each other and get them the proper safety equipment but we sort of been left in the Lurch today by the way the administration had a chance to change and correct. They oversight when they did away with that occupational disease standard though she was going to issue and they fought and took it out of the bill today so that they put prophet once more time in front of. Workers Health and safety. And we're angry about it. So is there no uniform? Standard in terms of how management and bosses have to deal with Making judgments about workplace safety in the midst of this pandemic there is not. There isn't a standard. There would've been. I would've had that in. They could re resurrected that today so that they had to file a plan. They had to educate their workers. So that all workers know and they'd be responsible for protecting the health and safety of their employees from contagious diseases. And they did away with it again today. This White House did that. Wait what you're saying that provision that regulatory provisions was in the original bill tax that the House Democrats proposed and the White House in negotiations was the one that struck that provision exactly and the Chamber of Commerce opposed sick. They tried to get sick days. Paid sick days taken out of this bill so that workers would have been left in the lurch. Look what we've said is we need free testing so that low wage workers that can't afford to testing aren't dissuaded from getting tests that we need to be able to have paid health days. If you have days off that you have to quarantine yourself you have to be able to have the proper equipment. That's out there. We wanted unemployment insurance expanded so that if it is a long term Unemployment like the people that you were talking about it those arenas and other places that are GonNa get laid off That they would be taken care of as well we've had we've fought for those things and a lot of them were especially that workplace standard was taken out of the bill today are are you thinking about the scope of this in terms of the economic dislocation might cause for your members. Working People. I mean you know we. We don't know what the future is and it could be that we're things are really disrupted for a few weeks or it could be longer and if it's longer. I mean how are you thinking about what people are going to need to just basically survive? They're going to need healthcare. That's for sure. But there's also three or four other things that they're definitely going to need We're looking at four or five different kinds of stimulus. We WanNA get money in the hands of the states through Medicaid so that they can help out you need to get money in the hands of workers and that could either be a lump sum like president. Bush did where he gave people a thousand dollars to spend or it could be another form And then you have a regular infrastructure. That's out there that needs to be taken care of anyway that can help create jobs and then make money available for small businesses That are going to be hurt by all of this to make sure that they can get through this so that we don't let a workers are left paying the bag on two fronts. I are health and safety is jeopardized because they're not giving us the proper standards proper equipment. The second thing is we get left behind economically the the other thing that this administration did Chris just this week the CDC changed the standards the health standards and of the equipment that we used. You used to have to have a respirator. Type face mask. If you were dealing with this disease. Now they've changed it to you just have to have the cloth mass which everybody knows are ineffective when dealing with this virus. The second thing that they did this week was when you came in and you are likely or a confirmed candidate with this virus you had to be in an isolation airborne isolation room. They did away with that. So now you can be in any ru you don't have to be in an airborne isolation room and both of those things are going to cause this to spread more rapidly than would have otherwise done. I just WanNa make sure that I'm understanding. Are Those those those regulations by the CDC are those applying to hospitals? Two points of medical care or two workplaces. They applied everything. It's the guidelines from the CDC they apply to hospitals. They applied to workplaces right. So they don't have to give you the frontline people particularly those that are on the frontline nurses doctors. Emt's those people they used to have to have the respiratory type mask on now. They just have to have a cloth mask or any kind of mass. That we know doesn't stop the contraction of this virus. Are you concerned about? I mean obviously? The National Nurses Union has been ring the bell about this and nurses particularly on which is a very strong Milton. Union are you concerned about those frontline healthcare workers right now absolutely? We're concerned were concerned. Because they changed the standards to weaken them. And then I can give you a number of stories. You had a doctor and several nurses that were exposed to the disease. They told the doctor and furloughed the doctor and they never told the nurses. Those nurses continued to work and be exposed interact with other patients. That's happening everywhere and it's going to pay a price are are members and frontline workers are going to contract this disease and in a in a matter that they never have to do if they were issued proper equipment. The proper safety precautions were taken. Were terribly frightened by that. We don't think we should be exposed to that. Type OF RISK RIGHT RICHARD. Trumka present the AFL CIO. Thank you for your time tonight Sir. Thanks Chris thanks for having me. On the shocking confidence of.

"While I wish I had a crystal ball I my honest guy is a lot less than well. Definitely a lot less than I thought a week ago. I think I paid for well. Certainly a lot less than he paid for I think that I obviously Vermont is not is not representative of the country. But I but I think there's a lot of people who really don't feel okay about About what they perceive is happening. That it's there's a basic maximum That has always been all other things being equal you You go with name recognition. And he's he's just he's he's pushing that so hard shoving a he's just simply blanketing everything everywhere with his name and. I think that there's a little more of a backlash than I expected about it. I think people are sort of seeing it as not not super well certainly not genuine not not about engagement in the way that everybody else has been engaged icees ads now and I gotta go okay. Bluer you know little take you no pun on the okay boomer but I just I mean I. I sort of feel like The country has been a little overdosed with Michael Bloomberg. Haven't haven't Weiner I think I I look and I just started sti people kind of rolling their at just how much they've been blanketed. I so I I think there's an interesting little political science Document political science professor about this maybe experiment going on where basically somebody's Kind of rise on death is Is Really just all advertising? I mean it you know Bloomberg Yeah. He has his yet a stint as mayor of New York. But in terms of you know what he's offering the country He hasn't really. I don't think you know Been that strong on just being a participant in the debates in terms of carving out positions. He hasn't been in the game that long. So maybe that's part of it but I I sort of feel like you know the. This is the if you wanted to run a test to say if candidates entire strategy was just dumping a ton of money into ads. Howard that work. I think we're about to see right. Yeah absolutely do I also think that I that the other thing that is that the country is seeing and I think sometimes some of the political analysts are having a hard time with it because we don't spend as much time talking about it or seeing about it seeing it in this country. Is that Bernie Sanders. He's he's the antithesis of Bloomberg in a number of ways and one of them is he has spent the last three years organizing like crazy and I am. But his brand of organizing. You know he's got he's taking tons of heat. Is He a real Democrat? What does he do at the Democratic Party but he? He views the Democratic Party. More broadly I think than a lot of other people in views it as In in new deal kind of way as a coalition of of working class organizations. And so you know it's no. It's not a coincidence. At all that like in Nevada. He did really really well with organize unions including ones where the leadership was. I was not as interested in him as a candidate. But the but the people in the Union the Union members were and and that's not because they heard about him and you know the last few weeks before The election is because Sanders people have been on the ground working with unions really long time. What are they actually do in in that work in an organizational work that we talk about now? I mean are they. Are they going to meetings are they? Are they try to? Hey come on come on and hear about Bernie Sanders or what's the point of it. Yes but I the other thing is that. There's a huge amount of outreach and there has been for forever I get between Sanders and I am. The kinds of groups not support Working issues that sometimes are allied with unions and sometimes our unions themselves Bernie talks about in in his in. His speech is the fact that he was down in Florida. Working with the moccoli workers before before anybody else had heard of Moccoli Florida and I one of one of the Union groups I love Bernie has been working with burning for years is the National Nurses Union and and then you I is one of the really big sort of sue foot soldier groups in pushing forward Medicare for all and so. It's that's the other piece of it is that it's working with them on their issues. Also so Supporting Union strikes supporting Specific I issues and health care for all with the Progressive Union Organizations. Like some of the unions are nervous about it because it takes away one of their bargaining chips with employers but some of the unions. I especially some of the unions with lowest. Paid workers are really interested literally in for everybody like for their families and for everybody else to and And so it's it's about working on these issues also and I think if you're if you're a labor activist and you look at the last twenty years of labor history in the United States and you realize that unions have been so heavily under attack. And frankly on the wane in terms of membership and so on that You've got to see that your position of bargaining for healthcare. Maybe weakening. Frankly Does that does that bring people around to think. Maybe I need something bigger than the Union to help ensure that I can see a doctor when I need one I think so and and the truth is I an middle-class America's realizing to is that even even even knowing you have healthcare says very very little about the quality of the coverage that you have and and the holes in that cover targeting bigger and bigger. That's a big part of the issue. I think here is the is it if people really look at this. They'll you know if somebody says it comes along with a reasonable with a reasonable statement that we can bring about a universal healthcare system where copays and deductibles are a thing of the past. And you know you just went through a healthcare re-enroll moment in which you're copays and deductibles went up by a couple of thousand dollars. You might give that a serious thought I would think YEP now I'm wondering also whether Bernie Sanders can actually win a well. Let me put it this way. Suppose he gets forty. Five percent of the delegates going into the convention The Democrats and you know there are a lot of folks in the party who were saying in including the other candidates who were up on stage during that debate a week and a half ago That that doesn't do it for him. we need to have a brokered convention And I do you think that that's a real threat is that is that a real possibility out there. Oh yes I definitely think it is. I think it's the sixty four thousand dollar question. I think everybody is really really sweating. It and I think The the scary part about it is that even if if there is kind of a face off One side is going to come away really really angry and I and and I would expect that there would be there would have to be sort of a papering over of it for the sake of the general election but then we wind up in the same situation that we wound up in two thousand sixteen where people who supported whichever side comes away. Losing is much more. How hard in their support in the general and I I think that's that's really really terrifying scenario not just for the presidency but also for Congress. Yeah I WANNA I wanNA talk more about that about that. Sort of scenario and and And it's and it's possible outcomes depending on of course which way it goes. I mean I think that the impacts might be different but we need to go to a bottom of the hour break here for a little bit of CBS News and a couple of words. Mar Sponsors From the.

"It's one plan that kind of has the type of coverage you'd expect from an employer sponsored plan. I actually think this is really important. And this is a underplayed. I was being cheeky about it. Right. But a big part of the political logic of Medicare for all right? If I ask the Medicare for all proponent in the street, like why is this a good idea that people should run on something that they will tend to say is that Medicare's very popular people really like Medicare? So we're going to give Medicare to all. And I think if you look at the most like superficial polling that tends to show broad popularity for this. That's what it's driven by right like Medicare is it popular program people like it. But it's important to understand when you get into the deeper politics when Donald Trump starts saying they want to repeal Medicare. They wanna take your Medicare Medicare's. We know it. That's actually true not in the way is implying it. I mean, there is an aspect of truth to it right like Medicare as it exists right is a program for elderly people. It's single payer structured programme. It covers a lot of things. It's supplemented though for most people for middle class and affluent retirees supplemented with private meta gap insurance and for low income and really supplemented with Medicare Medicaid. Right. But I mean, but I think more importantly is what more affluent people are doing because I I mean, that's like part of the politics. This is like who loses. Right. And then also a lot of people use Medicare Advantage program. These days right where the government it's like the opposite of public option. Like the government program pays for you to get private insurance is what's twenty twenty five for. I think it's thirty something percent at the it's significantly. So so a large share elderly people are using Medicare to purchase insurance and the canonical national nurses, union Bernie Sanders..
