"Go home. Your season's over. We'll play with the rest of the rest of the teams in the league. It's just so irresponsible to me that you have a group of professional athletes like if you take a look at like a A Fortune 500 company and like if you had all their employees not taking anything seriously, there'd be major ramifications. I don't understand. You tell the Cardinals sorry you go home you're done for the year. We'll see you next year. It's absolutely ridiculous that this is still going up. Thank you. Thank you for that. I'm furious about it. I cannot. I can't believe it for one second, and that'll be should tell him that they're done. Grab your stuff. Go home. You're not playing anymore. Thanks for the call Started cut you off, Andy. I kind of like Here's the thing that and he makes a great point. About every business in society right now is trying to deal with this together like we're all trying to figure out the best way to get through this pandemic, but then also Getting back to normal business practices. So like people are staying at home. Some companies are no longer going to even have an office. They're deciding that their employees they're just bear off, always being at home. Thus then saving money on rent so they don't have to have the space of an office to then have people come to S O. There is all this different testing and protocols and precautions being put in place, and I feel as if Major League Baseball did its best to try and prepared teams. The Cardinals did not take it seriously, and that's why we're sitting here since the 29th of July where the Cardinals have not played baseball, and they're not going to play baseball tonight. And there's probably a good chance they may not play baseball tomorrow and Sunday is up in the air for the Cubs in the Cardinal's That's hurting the Cubs situation, because either you're in a spot where you're not Feeling safe about your surroundings and or you're removing games from their schedule, which, on the other hand that I thought about from Andy's collies? How is Major league baseball? How do how don't they have protocols in place to handle this situation? You see what I'm saying? Like there are teams look at the standings right now. Miami Marlins are the number one team in the National League East at six and won. The Braves are nine and five. Like. How is baseball like? Why don't we know how they're gonna handle this? I know you could probably respond with what we still have time for them to figure out. They sent out a schedule yesterday about how they're going to make up game OK, but say the Cardinals now have more positive tests say if that's a thing this weekend And now they're out for another week. What are you going to do with the Cardinals? Well, I think you have to. If you want them to play, you have to Test them now and get the unused the test where you get the instant results where you get the results in an hour or in 15 minutes, Whatever it is, you have to do that. And then the problem is since this test was conducted probably a couple of days ago, and they just got the results back today. If the team was working out, whoever it is, we don't know who it is yet could have come in contact and could have spread to multiple different cardinals. And they will cause the incubation period is two weeks. You don't know about this and I've on the cubs. I'm getting on a plane and I'm going home. I'm saying you know what? I'm not even dealing with this. We as a team vote not to play. Baseball deal with it. And what are you going to do? You're gonna punish us because we don't feel comfortable playing a team. So you're going to shame us for not wanting to be a part of this. It's ridiculous. 3123323776 Cubs and Cardinals Will be postponed tonight while the rest of the weekend be played. Well talk baseball with you coming up. Next, you're listeningto.

MLB Marks The 100th Anniversary Of The Negro Leagues

"Baseball is marking the anniversary of the Negro leagues created 100 years ago. The league's showcased black baseball players players who couldn't play on the major teams because of the color of their skin. Only a few members of the leagues are alive to celebrate the centennial Michigan radios, Doug Tribute spoke to the only surviving team owner and others about the legacy of the legendary leagues. In 1920 owners of independent black baseball teams from the Midwest gathered in Kansas City, Missouri. At that meeting they created the Negro National Leagues had no idea they were making history. They didn't care about making history. Bob Kendrick heads the Negro Leagues Baseball museum there, he says. Faced with segregation, black owners and players kept pushing for organized baseball. These athletes never cried about the social injustice. They went out and did something about so you won't let me play with you and I create my own And they did today. Stars like Josh Gibson, Buck Leonard and Satchel Paige are enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame, but thousands of black and Latino players endured bigotry and racist taunts. It was Tear before the players at that time. Many Forbes owned the Detroit Stars from 1956 to 1958. She lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that players try of them. They had nowhere to stay because of the discrimination, so they slept in the buses. And they couldn't go in places to eat so one person would go to the back door. When get food for all the players. Pedro Sierra pitched in the Negro leagues for several seasons in the 19 fifties. He grew up in Cuba and says it was tough to adjust to segregation and racism he saw in the US It wasn't easy to see all the problem with the raise. I know all about it, herb artist. But I hadn't experienced today. Sierra lives in New Jersey In 1954 he signed with the Indianapolis clowns at the age of 16. His salary was less than 5% of what white players were earning dollars a month a month, $100 a month. And I look back and say, Oh my God. Jackie Robinson played briefly in the Negro leagues. Then, in 1947 he broke baseball's color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers in Cleveland, Larry Doby became the first black player in the American League. Coming seasons brought many more signings. But many Forbes sympathizes with the many athletes who were good enough to play in the major leagues, but never got a shot. Unfortunately, some of the good players by the time the time Came. They were too old to play. The last league folded in the early 19 sixties, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum estimates there are about 100 former players still alive. Forbes is 88 worries about being one of the last left to tell the story. And I just want a if I'm worthy of represent and speaking about the Negro League because When I got involved, things was easier for me. Then it wass father one before me. Many Forbes will keep sharing her stories with younger generations and others will to Major League Baseball has a day to honor the league's set for next month. The museum has pushed back its year long celebration of the centennial to next year and renamed it Negro Leagues. 101

MLB shuts down Marlins and Phillies, revises schedule for NL East, AL East teams amid COVID-19 outbreak

"Yesterday. Four additional members of the marlins tested positive that brings the total to seventeen members of their traveling party so that then lead to well, the nationals had been scheduled to play a three game series against the marlins starting Friday. In Miami. A majority of the Washington players voted against that yesterday, the decision on whether Games are played. Played rests with Major League Baseball, however, not with the nationals, but the league then did agree with the nats and postponed all of Miami's games through Sunday. So they're now not scheduled to play basically for the rest of the week that includes games originally scheduled for today and tomorrow in Baltimore against the Orioles, who will now instead host the Yankees for two game series starting tonight. Remember the Yankees had two games canceled or postponed that we're supposed to be in Philadelphia over the last couple of days. So Jeff here they are major league baseball for perfectly understandable reasons rearranging their schedule on the fly. What more can you tell us? Greenie. A schedule is a schedule, and till it is not and that's the scenario that Major League baseball is facing right now with the Miami Marlins. The idea that they are even going to complete sixty games simply is not possible at this point there points in the schedule where they can make up that three-game series against the nationals possibly, but the four games that they're going to be missing against. The Baltimore? Orioles. Orioles, they don't have enough off days to do that. Let alone to string series together like this. So Major League Baseball's looking scenario in which at least one team or two. If you include, the Orioles are going to be playing fewer than sixty games. Now, it helps that the marlins are probably going to be at the bottom of the National League east the Orioles are going to be at the bottom of. Of, the American League East, that these aren't the teams that are going to be in playoff contention that said this may not be the only time. We see this happen during this season. So at least there is a precedent being set early

The Mookie Betts decision could haunt the Boston Red Sox for a long time

"It didn't take very long for mookie bats. He didn't even suit up for the regular season game for the dodgers yet. He's got that tonight against the giants, and they signed him to a twelve year extension for three hundred sixty five million dollars, so he's twenty seven years of age. This is a lifetime deal in La. Certainly Senate notice to the rest of the National League. We mean business here. We're going to be competitive for a long time. On the flip side if you're a red sox fan, because it feels like this was the the Red Sox said. Hey, you know what or last year. Hey, we're going to regroup and try to come back with a vengeance here in a couple of years and there was thought that maybe mookie Betts would end up back with the red sox. At some point. He started his career there. beloved there, but the front. Office didn't commit to him financially. And now the deal's going to be a referendum on both of these franchises. We move forward. If vets delivers the dodgers win, they're gonNA look great in the Red Sox are going to be reminded of the one that got away for at least the next decade, but you never know about these big deals I would never want to sign a player for more than five years. I would just be nervous about that. Just playing the odds of you staying healthy you staying competitive of the cost that goes along with that athlete there. But. We see this with a lot of these baseball players. You sign him up if it's Mike Trout and if it's Bryce, Harper if it's Garrett Cole you want to lock them in, and also there's going to be a question. mookie Betts, no longer in that hitter, friendly fenway park fans in both cities are going to keep a close eye on mookie and his performance in La. La should be one of the more intriguing subplots in this unusual season, and if you look at the numbers with Mukhi Bats, you know my feelings about Mookie Betts. He was must see TV when he was playing for the Red Sox and that will be the same implying the dodgers i. just don't know if you'll be the same style of player that he was at fenway. then. He's going to be that at dodger stadium if you start to look at the numbers since twenty sixteen where mookie Betts ranks. And I know that we think my trout, the coronation, your best player in baseball in the future hall of fame, absolutely no problem with that. mookie Betts. Was the east. Coast version of Mike Trout from the standpoint of he could do everything. and. He's getting paid to do everything now a runs. Nobody scored more runs since two thousand sixteen hits third doubles I. Even home runs. He's not a home run hitting guy. He's five nine one eighty and five nine, one eighty. Thank you thank you? Nineteenth in home runs. You look at RBI's. He's up there. He's you know. He's in the top ten in stolen bases batting average. He puts up numbers all around good fielder as well by all accounts, good clubhouse guy, so the dodgers are investing in somebody who will be the face of the franchise for years to

"Why are we doing this again I know what you're doing you the Moreland. So you don't want to talk about them. Why do you keep doing this? So the best team in baseball, you just come in I? Don't even think that you want to be in here. I think you want to come in just so we can enjoy the marlins because when the MARLINS are bad, you're nowhere to be found and soon as the MARLINS. Marlins are good olives at guys I'm going to be here seven. In the morning. We're GONNA help you guys out today. Let's talk about something other than the marlins because that seems to be what's going on your icy. What's happening here? I'm following this trend, you're not gonNA work. This isn't GonNa work on me. Dan. Dan. I actually have another story of a wash athlete WHO's not washed up by the way playing in league with me just so we can for Marlin for second Jason Taylor Okay. Played in one of these REC leagues and his team. He's his team was stacked. I mean he had NFL guys. He had guys that knew how to play basketball and politically level. You're at twenty seven on them and the game winner from the corner as he tried to guard me and flew pass me on a pump fake for the game sealing. Oh. Wow. Wow. Wow. Have I have about I have a huge follow up here? How does he saw action? How does he smell when he played good. Good. Boise does fantastic or just like kind of average like. I. Need the spectrum here because he does what else? Just. What's between fantastic and average because I feel like there's a big Gulf there I have some follow up questions there. But I just wanted to billy's claim that when the Marlins are bad I'm never around, let's think about that sentence for a second because they've been bad the last twenty years and I keep coming into work. We don't talk about them because they don't give us any reason to talk unless they're embarrassing, and now you're all fired up about a lease rate a strong start for a week with a bunch of Utilit-, but it's a short and season. Dan We've discussed. Do you not listen when I? I, speak we've discussed this. If you get off to a hot start in this season, it's different than any other season because there's only sixty games. There's so many teams making the playoffs year that you only need to finish in the top two in every division, and then two more teams still make it into the playoffs. Every team in the NFL is essentially five hundred. The marlins because of the start are five games over five hundred. So if they just play five hundred, the rest of the season against the division, that's not good right now, the analyst is not only the braves are good, right the marlins. What's going on there? If I'm going to be honest with you I, don't know how they're doing what these wall baseball's going on there when -ASEBALL random baseball. But if they when the if they can weather this storm and get their players back and they just play five hundred, the rest of the way they could make the place. Is. Not Good. Only the Yankees. Are About five hundred and all they're playing is the east. They're playing all teams that are under five hundred this year except for the brazen, the Yankees remember their sixteen point two and two point seven after last night to win. It's not just six in one. Dan. They're further along in this process and you're giving them credit for they proved last night that they can win because the first few games of this series with the Orioles. You know pitching pitchers, Dolores by the way or not bad. They came in five and three and Marlins won four, and now they're under five hundred because the Marlins, but they were five and three coming into the series. I, mean. I. I basically only know Chris Davis on that team. But other than that. They're pretty good team. I wasn't good. He's terrible. I feel bad for him. I've never felt so bad for somebody who has one? Hundred, sixty, million, dollar contract. He's terrible. He's like one for twenty something on the season. He looks so sad at the plate, it's like dude, you have one hundred and sixty million dollars. Why are you making me sad? Chris, Davis. Struck. them out. Once. They had. What are you married mocking me feeling bad for him. No I'm not mocking you feeling bad for him. He must be miserable. On of money and going out there and being perpetually awful. All we know about Davis's that he spent the last three years striking out. It's better than being poor being awful. Choice, what do you think the conversations are around the Orioles and him? Do you think it's just a thing? They can joke about like the. Hey, man, you're doing well like I just feel like there has to be these awkwardness where he comes in the dugout and everyone is like, wow, you're making more than we all are combined in your terrible like that. I'm trying to think of like an example in other would seem that would seem to be an awful position. I know we talk a lot around here about like the idea. Idea that money doesn't buy happiness, but it helps with some of the down payment toward happiness, but that has to be a miserable experience. Imagine if I was the highest paid person on this show like imagine if I was making like six million a year and you guys were all making just little tiny salaries like just like just picture. That's what's going on in the orioles right now. Oh. My God. Billy gets a get your Marlin on. What did you see last night? was. Light, full. No, just everything every well, look you know it was fun about yesterday. If you look at run differential, they're five games over there six in one, right. But they're only nine plus nine and run differential rate. So that's not gonNA last. They're not going to obviously be an eight hundred win team the rest of the season. But at the same time, if you look at the National League, there's only three teams that are better than them. Therefore, the browser plus twenty one, they're good. The rockies are plus twenty four, they're good. The dodgers and plus thirty three, they're good. But everybody else is just a lot of people are under in the run differential. Piedra plus eight the cubs who tended three girls related plus seven to their bit of a fraud. I've just excited and they put up a bunch of runs again yesterday, and that's something that we didn't know that they'd be able to do the plus nine isn't good when they're five are basically winning every game by one or two runs. Right. But they're still figuring out how when. When these games and again like we keep saying because the seasons so short everyone is so important that if you get one of these hot starts, it's great. Now, here's where they're gonNA, get screwed. Guys listen to me. Listen Up, Dan. You're listening suffer. It's at the schedule gets tougher. Have Five doubleheaders in a span of late two weeks. This one if I may if I..

In terms of regular season, we know the reds are playing the national league central, and we know they'll play the American league central by the way if it's reds tigers opening day. What about Luis Castillo Versus Matthew Boyd? Maybe I'll ask David Bell about debt. I'm sure there's nothing David Bellwood. Rather be asked. Hey, schedules out officially. Six matchups during the season, the early proposal was going to be six versus your biggest rival, and then maybe lop off to against somebody else in that opposite division in this case being the American league central. A Turning Point: Race Relations In Sports

"It has now been more than four weeks in George. Floyd was murdered nearly a month since we all watched him. Take his last breaths. It feels like so much is different, but real actionable change that takes time. Many who took to the streets in protests have now resumed their daily lives, so now seems appropriate to discuss how sport will handle affairs moving forward. As North American teams and Leagues Continue Their Return to play processes. It is vital that the conversations and promises made when the racial issue was hottest that they do not go away. In a few moments, we will welcome in our panel to discuss how that should happen, but first a look at how we got here in the first place. He will have color have been argued about beliefs, and that's not right. That's not right by any was standards. The point he was making gut twisted from the start. The beginning when Colin Kaepernick I made is public protests peacefully heap I sat on the bench during the national anthem to bring awareness. There's a lot of things that need to change once one specifically police brutality. There's people being murdered unjustly and not being held accountable. It was the summer of two thousand sixteen, when he bursts truly used his platform as an NFL quarterback to speak out against systemic racism by police in the weeks leading into that preseason payment. San Francisco capper Nick had watched. We all had. To white officers pinning down Alton Sterling. And pumping. into his chest and back. He saw the traffic stop in Minnesota when Philander Casteel was killed in front of his girlfriend in charge. And captured it could not understand how mental health therapist Charles Kinsey could be shot by police when he was lying on the ground with his arms up in the air, people of color have been targeted by police. Cops are getting paid leave. For killing people. That's not right. That's not right by anyone's standards. And yet from the beginning law in. pre-game gesture was misrepresented and downright manipulated. The Christ came that he was disrespecting the flag that it was a slap in the face to military personnel. But when active soldiers pointed out, they serve to provide their citizens with the freedom of speech that capture nick was exercising. That narrative quickly was quashed when army veterans who had been in battle, echoed that very sentiment out of national football league buildings team needs I would be disappointed if any of our players didn't stand up for the national anthem personally. I, look at that as a salute to the people who have paved the way for us. Our Organization believes that. You should. Respect the flag and so you'll save those individual decisions to expression show. On individual form. And that became the prevalent message. Don't do it here. Stick to sports. The underlying tone. How dare you protest without our approval we're. Do you get off? Colin Kaepernick criticizing anyone in another uniform. Right the men and women lead for this, I- scenic. First hand. For. Somebody do that to get paid millions of dollars. It's ridiculous. Cabinet remained undeterred. United States Army Bet. Nate! Boyer who did tours of duty in Iraq, and Afghanistan encouraged him to kneel and not sit. By, taking a knee voyeur told him you show your respect for fallen brothers that way. So capture nick did. And then more NFL players followed. And yet the public and political conversation in the US would not steer toward police brutality. No matter how much star athletes peacefully attempted to. And the leader in America's biggest chair. Amy Shirley Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners? When somebody disrespects our flag to say, get that son of a job appealed right now out each fire. I! Capture Nick became a source of division for standing up against injustice. He hasn't taken a snap since that twenty sixteen season. And at this year Super Bowl USA. Today's jared bell minced no words on why that is I. Think it's pretty obvious. He's been blackballed for Colin Kaepernick not to have a job is just. It's the worst look for the NFL. No conversation was more dominant inside NFL. Locker rooms that season than the Kapernick one teams are made up of players of all ages of all backgrounds of so many ethnicities. If you actually want to listen to different perspectives. If you're an athlete who would want to hear what your peers had to say, there would be no shortage of takes to soak in. But fundamentally the want would be to understand capper knicks fundamental point. After George Floyd one of the League's biggest stars reminded us that many still didn't I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country. Maybe that was the crossroads moment because the reaction to. It felt like something had changed almost as. That won't cut. It anymore drew. brees in the rest of the NFL were told right away, the new. Orleans quarterback came under fire. The players in the league had just about enough of the establishment silence. They had captured message. They were not gonNA. Let owners and Roger Goodell get away with it this time. Would have other Jewish Knowledge George if I was. I was George Void. Jewish. And say hi in. Regard. To me right. Breezes all pro receiver found Dallas's bruising runner and Houston's electrifying quarterback, and Kansas City Super Bowl Mvp. And Obi. And they all let you know. We. Condemn Racism and assistant. Matic oppression of black people. National League, admit wrong and silence our players from protesting. Also. Black lives matter black lives matter. Like loves. To Have Patrick Mahomes the next superstar the NFL. Front and center. That was massive. And the very next night the commissioner uttered the words you never imagined would happen. We the National Football League Immune. We were wrong for not listening NFL players earlier. And encourage all speak out in peacefully protests. Read the National Football League believe black lives matter. Progress. Probably a step forward. You want to believe so. The day after the commissioner changed his tune, breeze went to social media again. He'd already made his hollow apologies without actually saying sorry, and he finally seemed to be listening to what some teammates had to say, and after all of that even drew brees somewhat stood up to the president. It won't Change Donald Trump of course, but maybe it will make others think. Perhaps it will create more uncomfortable conversations to allow for a greater understanding among all of us. And at the very least it has given others throughout sport. To have the freedom to finally say their piece open believing they may at last be heard. Or country is in, trouble. Basic reason is race. You're seeing an example of future. That's fighting for you for you. Right now a fine for you got a grandfather that march legs. Dr King in the sixties. And he was amazing. You'll be proud to see us all. Got Pushing? Forward Doing Casey marched with his family. Members of Detroit's organization. An NBA coach using his voice. Over in Jacksonville Jaguars personnel were among the demonstrators. North Philly's finest. He walked. Kyle Lowery's we can. Priorities were set. This though. This is just the start. To silence of countless elites spoken loud. Until you see action from an, don't forget by the leaks themselves. We wonder what the real commitment to progress actually is. What capper protests was about from. The beginning can no longer be debated. And it is now crystal clear to all of us that no athlete should just shut up and dribble. Nelson Mandela famously said. Sport has the power to change the world. Since George, Floyd perhaps we have learned that change can come more from our sporting icons using their voice platform in pursuit for justice than any jumper were swing. Or goal or touched them. Stick to sports. Sure let's stick to sports bettering the world in a new way. Let's start hearing the real message now. And most of all, let's not get the words and actions like Hafer. Knicks twisted. When he tried to begin the real conversation. Before US AGO!

'Long Gone Summer' Documentary Revisits Controversial 1998 Home Run Chase

"Are joined by the director of long gone. Summer AJ SCHMUCK AJ. Congratulations loved watching that film. What does it feel like to have the film finally be seen by the world. I mean it's crazy. It's a been a long journey to get to this point, and it feels like a total miracle to have finished. With the pandemic and working separately with all my team so finally being able to get the film done and get it's ESPN. Feels like a huge accomplishment. Why did you decide to start the dock with the actual baseball's that mark mcgwire hit. Well is in part because we. When we met Todd McFarlane The Great Comic Book Artist Entrepreneur Who who bought all the balls or a bunch of balls including at number seventy. I just love the way he talked about the home run, and how it is something that really connects baseball fans to the game in a way that you don't get in any other sports so as soon as we like walked out of of interviewing him, I I turned to my producer, and said you know that's the beginning of the film. Is Him talking about what the home run in baseball means and how it connects fans, drinks have direct contact between Maguire's bat, and and the person who catches it. So that was that was great also has sort of the other. Bonus. Positive thing of reminding you that someone paid more than three million dollars. Baseball that's how big this was That's how much this took over the country that someone would would go to that extent. To own that ball. Having when watching that scene in Rhode. explained. HOW MICHAEL JORDAN HITS! A shot wins the championship. They go and bring him the basketball, and if if a quarterback breaks a record with the past, bring him the football, but with the home run. You literally hit into the stands, and you never see it again and it was sort of a way that the fan can take home a piece of the game in baseball. They can't other any other way. Way that happens with the home run, but then you did you hear him sort of articulate this, and then the question is asked how much you pay for it. It was just so much money that I wanted to know. How does this? How much are they paying people that bitter comic book illustrators, nowadays like what is the going rate for commentator Peter? How can this man afford this multimillion dollar baseball? Spun was very successful, but yeah I think. He spent basically every penny he owned and you know I I think in part. He did it because he he wanted to get into the business of making action figures for for sports. And and that happens I, mean he basically that was his way of getting everyone's attention in saying. Hey, I'm serious I. Care About Sports Let me make action figures, and and he did I think it was not only something that he wanted to do one thing that didn't make the film which I I tried to find a way to put it in, but he talked about how. His brothers are all baseball fans, one of the key excitement for him in getting the balls with just to be able to say I've got the baseball. As like well. You got three million dollars for that God. Bless Ya. I know that's right. The kid sweet swinging lefty King Griffey Junior, one of my favorite players growing up as Wa. Carry a bet to this day. was more of a factor. With Sosa mcgwire that people actually a realize. Can you acknowledge how his performance affected them? Certainly I mean one of the crazy things I think about that. Season was that people really went into it from spring training, thinking that either Maguire or junior were gonNA. Make this record. Both of them at hit and high fifties the year before this was an expansion year. Everyone just thought like this is GonNa happen went into the season, thinking that Griffey was was in it. You know right I think if you even remember the Griffey was in it. You forget that he was in it until late August when he had kind of a long slump I think he only hit one one home run and like twenty games and may still hits. Hyphen! which is a tremendous season that gets overlooked by what happened with mcgwire and Sosa, but certainly yeah I mean congruency. Junior had an amazing year that year and. It was in a in addition to to all the stuff. We remember of Sosa and mcgwire. He was. He was hitting the ball longer. In Maguire was sort of famously one of the bash brothers, and he had a great career while he was in Oakland with the athletes and Sammy Sosa wasn't as celebrated as a baseball player, and he said something in the film that really hit accord me, said quote ahead had to continue hitting. Because if not, they're not going to mention me. Why did you include that emphasized that and what that means you from Sami? I thought it was great. It Sammy acknowledged that he wanted to the respect. He thought he deserved, and he does that a few times I think in the film and I mean that's sort of a lighthearted way of like saying like. I turned on sports center at night and if I don't hit a home run like they're not gonNA mentioned. He wanted to be mentioned. He wanted to be acknowledged and I think that one of the things I hope that the film does Sami. Wasn't that well known outside of Chicago before ninety eight, but. That's in part because the comes weren't very good, but the Sammy was was a great player for the cubs. A thirty thirty guy I thirty thirty guy ever in cubs history. He was a top home run hitter in the National League for years. I was one year where he was on track to get close to the record. But was injured in in August so You know was a goal to sort of illuminate. The fact that Sami wasn't just somebody who like. Jumped out of nowhere in June of Nineteen Ninety eight that he meant something in Chicago before that. Implant in Chicago, the weather can be a factor. Do you believe it play as much of a factor as Sammy Sosa states. I mean all I can tell you that. We were there in May of last year to shoot the Saint Louis Chicago series in their. Earliest! May and it's snowed one morning. And I was just like. I grew up in southern Illinois outside the St, Louis and I love Chicago. Chicago is great, but I was just like hell though. Away being at the game it was cold. It was rainy and it was just like damn out. This is football. Weather's that I don't know but yeah. No. I definitely know He. He I believe in when he says he's. He was a hitter that did better when it got warm. Not that good of a hitter in the cold. Certainly, see see that that would be the case. Which I think is also in the film. You'll see you know one of the things that makes a Kerry Wood's twenty strikeout game. All the more impressive is that he's. He's doing it on one of those days, and the rain is coming down east going through like You know thirteen fourteen fifteen strikeouts that day, so? Yeah! It's whether in and regularly I think is probably no joke. With all of what's happening in our society in the world, not just in our country today we kind of have to look at things in stories in history, and currently through the filter of race. And how do you think race played a role in this particular story of mcgwire and Sosa and that summer? I think that people wanted to feel good about the fact that they liked this battle between these two guys who were from different cultures different countries. And different races. That probably made people want pat themselves on the back for feelings so good about it I think in part there still memories of what had happened to Hank Aaron and sort of the ugliness when he was. Setting the all time home run record. So people felt like. Wow, look at how far we've come to celebrate and get excited about the fact that this could be. A champion of homerun record that was held by either of these two guys. There's a somewhat famous. Cartoon! Where the two of them are depicted with their bats wall has been broken in the wall, says racist. You know like that. The two of them had finally solved this problem. They beaten it. And I think. It's just a you know. It's one of those times when. People have wanted to. Congratulate themselves for reaching a certain. Threshold and clearly all of those congratulations were way premature. And we're still. We're still fighting for it. I hope that the people. Look at this though as a story of these two champions, and can get some excitement out of the fact that they did come from different backgrounds, and they have very different stores,

MLB's Plan to Save the 2020 Season

"Jeff you've been cleaned broadcasts. Can you say hello in Korean yet? I'm young hustle. Meena was good. It was good. Yeah the Right Energy. I felt Jeff. Passan is an MLB insider for ESPN. Yesterday the owners approved a proposal. That Commissioner Rob Manfred plans to present to the players today for a return to play scenario that aims to have baseball back by early July. What is in the plan? How about baseball starting on the fourth of July light? Can we get any more American and look? I think that's part of this whole thing. I think that baseball wants to capture this part of the American sporting landscape that has just been dreaming of sports coming back and typically baseball during its season is competing with the NBA playoffs and with the NHL Playoffs and then training camp starts in the NFL and college. Football are in full swing by the time. The playoffs come around. Baseball has a pretty open landscape here. Which is what I think. Partially driving this as it stands right now. The biggest and most important things are spring training 2.0. Starting in June season of eighty two games starts up in July and the biggest of all is the revenue split between the sides now. Baseball is not a cat sports. The only American team professional sport that does not have a salary cap and so the notion of revenue split has never been part of the financial landscape but what? Mlb is proposing in. This first pass is a fifty fifty revenue split that tries to mitigate the downside for owners who say they are bleeding because of the corona virus pandemic has wrought and because when they return in this proposal it would in major league stadiums in their cities. There will be no fans there so it's pretty obvious why they want to do this financially right and the players as well financially but there's also tremendous risk for the players. Their families pretty much. Everyone who's actually in and around the fields. What have the players said so far the players have been fairly silent? You know you haven't had anyone come out and say no. This is not going to work behind the scenes. However that's exactly what they said. They're saying that this fifty fifty split plan is a complete nonstarter and they're saying this for a couple of reasons. One of them is fundamental. The players have so long fought against the idea of a cap. Remember back in nineteen ninety four when there was a strike. Major League Baseball wanted to institute a salary cap. The players were willing to lose a season and a world series to avoid that but beyond that what buttresses their argument right now they believe is the agreement in March that was signed between the players and Mlb and in the players minds that says explicitly that if a season begins they will be paid a prorated salary based on the number of game so eighty two games. They're going to get about half of their salary. Mlb's contention is that in this agreement. There's something of poison pill which is a phrase bat says all of this is valid unless there are no fans in stadiums now. Mlb is arguing that that little claws at the beginning of the contract applies to players salaries. What the Union is saying? Is that if you wanted that to be. In the salary portion of the agreement you should have put it in their explicitly. And because it's not in their explicitly. It's not valid. What about from a public health perspective? How is this actually going to work? I think is as unanswered question at this point as the finances are and it's because there's really no clear good roadmap to how to do this right we've seen in other countries we've seen in Taiwan and in South Korea baseball comeback but those are also places that haven't had anywhere near is to spread of Corona virus as we have what they can try to do is make it as safe as possible. Teams are going to play Games only inside of their division and against the Inter League team in those division so for example American League East teams will play only American League East and National League East opponents. The hope there is that limiting travel. You can take bus rides from New York to Philadelphia our from Philadelphia Washington but in the central divisions for example that that's just not realistic. Those teams are going to be taking flights practically every time they have to play a game so between that and figuring out how much testing can be done. It's a huge part of this. In another reason Meena why the players are as emboldened as they are because they feel like. They're the ones taking all the risk here. The owners aren't going out from place to place going out in public staying in hotels traveling coming into contact with people who might be infected. They're going to be staying in the comfort of their homes. If they want. If players played do not have that choice. They get stayed home for half the time. They're going to be on the road the other half.

Rakhine and ruin: insurgency in Myanmar

"On Tuesday. A driver for the world. Health Organization was killed in rock kind state in Myanmar. After his car was hit by gunfire the attack took place in a region where government troops have been locked in fierce fighting with the Arakan Army which wants greater autonomy for the state and for the kind of Arakan people countries including Britain and America have called for an end to fighting amid the cove nineteen pandemic but clashes have intensified governments. Flailing response seems to be boosting. The Arakan Army and the and army declared a month-long ceasefire but it was rejected by the government as unrealistic. Charlie McCann Economists Southeast Asia correspondent fighting between the army and the Burmese military has escalated over the last two months as has a war of words that they've been fighting. Each group has blamed the other for firing at the. Who car which was carrying swabs from patients to be tested for Krona virus. So this conflict get it start then. The conflict erupted on January fourth. Two Thousand Nineteen not coincidentally Myanmar's Independence Day about three hundred and fifty fighters from the army attacked for police posts in northern. Rakhine state killing thirteen officers. Now there had been skirmishes between the American army and the Burmese military before that but the insurgents had never been quite so brazen in response the government. Which of course is led by Aung San Succi a Nobel Peace Prize winner instructed the army to crush the rebels and the military has since deployed an estimated. Fifteen thousand to twenty thousand troops and deployed heavy artillery airstrikes hidden and even naval patrols despite all this the economy is actually making some headway. And so what are the stakes in this fight? What is it that the army wants with African army are ethnic rock kind? Buddhists who are longing for independence. They feel neglected by the central government for decades. Rakhine is one of me and Mars poorest states and the advent of civilian rule with Aung San Suu Dci in two thousand sixteen Only exacerbated tensions the Eric a National Party won a majority of parliamentary seats in the state of Rakhine and they believed that Aung San Suu Cheese Party. The National League for Democracy would let it nominate the state's chief minister instead the ANALII appointed one of their own and the a. n. p. and and many were kind sell. This is a great betrayal. That sense of embitterment deepened in two thousand eighteen. When the police killed seven protesters and arrested that. Npr's chairman all of which contributed to further radicalizing the raccoons and this is a state in. Myanmar. There's not unfamiliar with with sectarian tensions. That's right in two thousand seventeen. The Burmese military launched its clearance operations against the hinge a persecuted Muslim. Ethnic Minority Walser lived in Rakhine state. The kind the hinge Are Two of many ethnic. Minorities got it across me and mark who are discriminated against and are advocating for fighting for more freedoms if not independence and ask for the conflict between the Arakan army on the national military. How how's that going? The military is suffering terrible casualties. And the army are are humiliating. The military I conducting hundreds of duck shins of politicians businessmen civil servants and indeed soldiers the military's accustomed to siege warfare not to the kinds of tactics being deployed by the army which hides the jungle but also operates an urban areas which takes pot shots at our patrols also does all these brazen things like bombings and abductions and to the military's really floundering. It's response the army's successes really driven in large part by the group's Commander Thuan Rot nine. I am the leader of Argon. Army Major General Plan Renai educated. He's charismatic he's young. We have lost our rights. The rights of the indigenous people in contrast to many of the leaders of the countries other insurgencies who has been described to me by an analyst as comprising the FISA Club of guerrilla leaders. The commander recently called on his followers to throw off the shackles of Burmese. Racism and colonialism. So uses this very rousing language. Harks back to the long periods when kind state was a glorious independent kingdom. Every American has a dream in their heart is slickness is mirrored. In the group's social media videos which feature attractive young soldiers declaring their love for their homeland and engaging in wholesome wrestling matches we will never ever give up and and so with its army on the back foot. Then how has the government responded to this slick operation having handedly in June? It blocked mobile Internet service to about one million people in Rakhine engine states according to Human Rights. Watch this is one of the world's longest government imposed Internet blackouts last month. That also blocked access several news websites. That report on the conflict as well as designating the Eric Armenia. A terrorist organization that then enabled police to charge journalists who interviewed. That can army's commander in chief with violating the Counter Terrorism Law and we're kind civilians are really coming under fire. Amnesty International claims that the military has been shooting indiscriminately at recline towns and has been torturing and murdering civilians. We know that more than one. Hundred thousand civilians have been displaced by the fighting and now a meteoroid reports shows that forty two civilians have died since March twenty third and so again in our we have this example of the military taking an extremely heavy handed approach against its own citizens under the watch of Aung San. Suu She I mean. Her reputation suffered greatly after the crisis. How do you see this crisis? Playing out on Sun suits. He won election twenty-six teen on her promise to bring peace to the country the fact that her government has instructed the military to crush the rebels as she put it has designated them a terrorist organization. There's no way that she'll be able to bring about peace with methods like those to me. It looks as if the conflict is only going to escalate the atkin armies ten unflicting so much damage the government will have to make some concessions and indeed has over the past six months more than two hundred hand government employees and Chen state which is just north of re kind. A lot of the fighting has taken place have resigned after being threatened by its fighters. Now the rebels don't have the firepower to defeat the government militarily but they might not need to if they can inflict enough humiliation. The government might decide to retreat from the fight and seek a political settlement. Either way see piece for the possible future curly. Thank you very much for your time. Thank you

"Was born into a family of dodger and giant fans. Mother was a die hard dodger fan because of Jackie Robinson. My Dad was a giants fan because Willie mays and the giants and dodgers. Where're rifles this particular game? Involved this rabid rivalry between the dodgers and the giants. There was no love lost between these teams. They were playing for money. They needed to win. The world series shares. They wanted to get to the series and going back into the eighteen. Hundreds there was a sort of a whole late of famous fights involving the two teams and from baseball point of view leading up to the game. It was perfect. It was perfectly scripted. The New York giants have been thirteen and a half games behind the Brooklyn dodgers in August. They went on this historic run. They won thirty seven of forty four. Something almost unprecedented and they tied them with just a few games left in the season and they went sort of back and forth. They enter this three game playoff. And of course entering the bottom of the ninth inning. The giants were losing by three. Runs and Bobby Thomson hits the home run. And they win Perhaps the most amazing thing about Russ.

"National League. Ninety. AM? Thanks for joining us going. The do it yourself route on your next home repair or remodeling project could cut costs substantially that is provided. You're really is handy. As you think more from Kelli grant, consumer reporter at CNBC dot com. Kelli, what do you have for a lot of homeowners? They just feel like they have these great resources out there. So why not give it a shot yourself? But if you're gonna go this route a there's a lot that you would want stink about disfigure out. You know, my really saving money or am. I getting myself into a situation that's gonna cost more in the long run. Or that's essentially dangerous the type of project matters to hear. I'd imagine it does. Well, they looked at the numbers. And they said, do, you know, the folks who tend to do do the DIY route spend a lot less, but it's hard to break that out because either they do know that people who go that route versus hiring pro. They are also a little more comfortable doing smaller projects. So just because the typical DIY or spend a lot less on their bathroom remodel for. Example doesn't mean that they see a lot of money. It might just mean that you know, they didn't do a full remodel. Maybe they replaced the toilet. Or they did some smaller projects there that they were comfortable with versus a major overhaul. So the professional contractors are kind of standing by in the wings because he's a statin the story that says forty-three percent admit that they've messed up one of these projects. Oh, for sure, you know. And actually, it's funny that we're having this conversation now because we just found box DIY project in our house last night from the previous homeowners who improperly installed shelving in the closet, but is now falling apart. But that's neither here nor there. We do here that consumers can mess these up. So you know, we were talking to folks about like, how do you figure out if this is that you should go? We talked to the folks that young house love, and they were saying what you really need to think about as well, what is that worst case scenario, if you missed this up because there's obviously a lot of safety things that could go wrong, especially if you're talking about structural work, electrical work plumbing, work at that, you really need to be aware of what the risks are that you know to not have the skill. Can you take the right precautions or should you just be safe and have someone else do this? We're speaking with Kelli grant, consumer reporter at CNBC dot com. We're talking about taking on DIY projects. There was a point in the story to that mentioned you should invest invaluable skills. Meaning what well there's just some things that people will end up continuing to hire folks to do that. Maybe it is worth it that you would figure out how to paint or that you would understand. How do you hang things like pictures or artwork or shows in your home? You know using. Drills in wall anchors and all of those things. How do you hang a window treatment just certain skills over time that would add up for some experts? You know, if you're if you're really doing a lot of home projects that may not even be bigger ticket things like doing some tiling that that could really save you a lot of cash, and you know, because you have those great resources out there. Some of that is easier than you think it might be Kelli Kelli grant, consumer reporter at CNBC dot.

"Kemp Hernandez, Puig Barnes. Exactly the same. This is only the second time in baseball World Series history that a team has started. All right handed hitters. This has not been done since yesterday. History. This is having, is there somebody else you think they ought to be starting. That's not. There is. I think I think bellawood KiKi Hernandez has not at all been good at the plate during this postseason and I would, you know, I know it's lefty lefty, you know, and that's, you know, the computers probably saying something different, but he was the National League championship series most valuable player. He plays a really good center field. I would not hesitate to have Bellinger in there instead of TK or NAN the defense really the more more than the hitting bellinger's great defense. My point is, I think the the batting you can make an argument for either guy. I think this point given how poorly they've played defense over the course of the playoffs at different points in the difficulty of playing outfield at Fenway. You gotta give consideration to putting your best defensive line-up out there before you even think about who's hitting. Well, the thing about that. The thing about the defense is the outfield played it perfectly. There were there were no complaints of my last night. In fact. Cheeky. There's that that sort of not right, right by the Red Sox bullpen and Kika played that ball as well as it could be played. There's not a catch to be made there. He caught it off the wall, and that was the right place. So defensively they handled the Fenway park outfield and it's even funkier you know, when you see them person, it's even funkier the the, obviously the green monster. But then you get over towards the center. And there's like a triangle there where God knows of ball goes in there who knows where it's coming out, and then they Red Sox bullpen juts out into right center field. And then the wall, which is right below where I was sitting in in. In left field is really in right field is really, really low. So there are a lot of ways to go wrong in that in that outfield the stadium is like being in a time capsule. Oh yeah. Fenway park is like you're going back in time to time, went before lights, and you know, did you did you get a chance to to to sit in any of the actual like fancies? I went up to the top deck at one point. There's a top deck in in right field that I was able to climb up to, which was which was cool. I'm in regular c.. So you are okay? Yeah. Well, I'm in regular. See they built right? They build usually build like an auxiliary, press box out in the in the, you know, the regular seats for that. I just wasn't sure of like that was part of the, you know, they've done some renovations at different times and not every seat in that stadium I think is exactly the same, but. There. There were some fat ass reporters trying to sit in those regular CNN is not easy like you get down into the original stuff like down in the lower deck and all that, like the amount of humanity that squeezed in those cases, although you never sit down will they can't. Caesar's small, and they seem to know the word two words to every single song will they play the same eight songs every single game. And I was there for sweet Caroline, which I got admit. Kind of cool. It's fun. It's a great place to see a game. Shame. It's waste is everywhere. It's a shame. It's wasted on Red Sox fans. And I know it really is insufferable in Sarah. I mean, there really are the worst because like how many it was like a hundred and something years. They didn't win, and then they win one time. And now they become the most entitled people in the face of the planet. They really are shut up. Yeah. They are credibly in time. They're awful. They're insufferable people. All of them. I found them to be no, I'm not wearing dodgers gear because I'm a reporter. I'm wearing a navy blue in a dodgers colored ski cap, but that's as close as I go. There is a dodgers t-shirt under everything, but they seem to be getting to coexist with dodger fans pretty well..

"There might have to play three playing games and all this. Although, you know what's weird is fan graphs, which is a great site has got the dodgers with the highest probability of going to the World Series or winning the World Series of any team in the National League and they've got the most. And that makes sense. Yeah, because you know, Atlanta, nobody knows what they are in the postseason. No. I mean, they got a bunch of kids. We'll see exactly sometimes that's because the just don't know that they're supposed to feel a euro way to me. They do sort of like, you know, Houston did Houston needed a year before they got they playoffs before, then they need that Atlanta feels like, and then you know, the cubs are okay culture. Okay, fine. They're, they're, I mean, they're the team. I think the team you'd most likely to see. They're not the Red Sox. The Yankees are better than they're probably three teams in the American League that are better than what can we just the Trump about how if you, whatever team in the National League has no chance against the American League in the World Series that is so not seven games I'm telling you, there is no reason why go back and look at the dodgers. I mean, you don't have to be the team with the most wins. In fact, I saw. In the last. Let's see five only five of the last twenty five teams to clinch their division. I has won the World Series. That's the Red Sox vibe and in five in the last thirty years. "The first pitch at a ballgame. I never have the owner. I haven't either, but I've I've been there with someone who has and I have stored in that situation. It's not as easy as it looks. I don't think it looks easy, which is interesting why I think most of the time, the idea like you just you're just going to throw the ball, right, and on TV the mound doesn't look as sort of imposing as it is in real life. And then you're standing there in this moment. You're like, oh, my, I just don't bounce it just on POWs, which makes what we saw this weekend from Sister, Mary Jo Sobia of Marian Catholic high school theology. She's theology teacher, did you see her pitch? So I saw her pitch, but more like the the ball movement, I like so was a lot going on their first thing she does. She ended the ball that you kind of taps it up with her by set offer bicep, recalibrate catches the ball yuck and then throws an absolute strike. But like. Doesn't she wave off the catcher too. She waves off the catcher. I like, do you think that she positioned this as a tryout like, hey, if you like, what you see, I'll stick around beyond the Mary available. I'm available every day, but Sunday. I'm good, right? She's listen baseball teams. I guess they do play every Sunday. It's getaway day often, but. So he denies that I said, good question. Mary Jo sister visine we've covered basketball baseball go. Yup. A lot of Chicago ties here. We could be up to the cubs need like a relief. The have like a goat and like all the other manner of like weird things don't need to get anything else in the mix in Wrigley. Let's just like keep it out of the way because the National League's MS anyway, right now they have the cozy as lead. Did you know that in the nationally relative term? Right. They have the coziness lead. You look at the National League in their eight teams that are separated by five games, right? Eight teams that includes the division leaders. We're talking about like the wild card spots there, and the cubs have the coziness lead in the NL central. They've three and a half now a three and a half game lead. Okay. Over the brewers, then you have the cardinals back there right? Every other division is a half a game, half a game half a game. So like whatever is happening in the AL west. That's fun and exciting, but it's like child's play compared to what's happening in the nationally. She's really want, and baseball baseball. Because we, this is a sport that obviously we were just talking about with Jeff Bauman. Our last segment is a marathon, but you could have situations where the Yankees have. I believe the second best record in baseball. Yes, they have the second best record in baseball and yet barring a collapse of epic proportions because the Red Sox have lost, right. The Red Sox are not going to lose that division now. So think about that. Imagine if so, this would be to sort of take it into my sport for a second. Let's say a team is going to go twelve and four and have no shot of it at this division crack, like that's happened though. Well, there have been teams that have gone twelve and four, but they've been right there in the mix until the final weekend of the season..

"Yes. This season as this is the first big decision. They have to make straight ahead a tough weekend in baseball for the Astros do they hear the as knocking on the door? They are just a little bit behind him just a game behind. We discuss that next with a former Astro who's now calling their games, Spain and Fitz on ESPN radio with the eights and brisk up next Spain and Fitz on ESPN radio, the SPN app and Sirius XM channel eighty. It's Nicole Briscoe and field Yates in tonight. So we're deaf. Not Spain in fits. We could go with Briscoe and gates gates and Briscoe. But other than that, we're not that creative ESPN radio's presented by progressive insurance watched a little baseball over the weekend. The the National League is a mess, but you know what the American League is much better. Did you see what happened this weekend with the Houston? Astros? Sure did, and there's no better person to talk about it. Then our guest right now on the shell Pennzoil performance line who now calls the game for the Houston Astros after previously playing for them Jeff Blom you can find him on Twitter at bloomer twenty-seven, or you can find a statue of him amazing auto, which is to me of all the things you could have in your life. That's got to be right up there near the top, Jeff after a long weekend for the Houston, Astros at imagined and the as pulling even and then within one game of the Astros. What is your sense about the mindset right now of the defending world champions. Oh, it's good to be with you guys. And the mindset of these guys is, you know, it's a marathon type season when you when you pull back and look at the entire season. But I think here understanding that the Oakland Athletics are, you know, in their real remember again after being pulled side by side, I think these guys are realizing that it's a little bit of a sprint from here on out, but I think they also understand that though they do have a little bit of help coming in regards of guys coming off the DL. We just saw career come up the deal. George Springer came off the else, but I think the guy that really motivates this ball club and means a lot to these guys, both internally and on the field is Jose altuve and he should be coming back here. Hopefully in the next couple of days you get a front row seat today sake. I was talking about our only over the weekend and I said to him, what's the likelihood that the Astros defending World Series champs don't even win their division this year. And he was like, now not a chance at all, but he did say that's not to take away from the as you just had a front row seat. This is an as team that hasn't made the postseason in a really. Longtime, what makes this as team different. Oh, we, we saw them early in the year they, they've always played the Astros tough. And I think what appeals to some of the people who watch the Oakland a.'s is that they did a good job. You know, they always do a good job of getting young talent. It's always tough to that fan base to latch onto that team when they're when they know that when those guys get good enough, they usually are jettison for more young talent, but they've got a good core group of guys, semi-in Chapman Olsen. And then they have a couple of veteran guys mixed in there with jed Lowrie having an all star season LaCroix behind home plate working with these guys. But what they did is their offense is absolutely incredible what we saw this weekend and what they did to a couple of very good pitchers and Dallas kaikal and Justin Burland is they put great AP's on them. They warm down, they beat them up, knocked them around and hit the ball out of the ballpark. So that was interesting to watch. But then the back in the bullpen with what they did at the trade deadline, picking up the million and Rodney really short in the game. And I think that's their ideas. They don't have phenomenal starting pitching, but they did a good job of showing up that both in short. During those games because their offense is pretty potent right now..

"Atlanta Braves, homerun number twenty six for him and after, that the Rockies didn't look back they were able to rally and. Beat the Braise and they still are. Holding down that number two spot in the National League West, oh it's the Diamondbacks then it's the Rockies who are a game and. A half I'm sorry half a game back of the d backs and. Then the dodgers are another game and a half behind them so the, Rockies continue this incredible pace they are winners of four straight eight of their last ten and. It's been a lot of fun to to check in on them I feel, like it helps them that they're flying under. The radar though sometimes that can create a chip, on the shoulder of athletes and organizations but the fact that there In a division with the dodgers who went to the World Series. A year. Ago and the fact that they're pitching staff has been so good. Ranked in. The top ten in almost every category despite the fact that, they play course, field as their. Home venue it's, defies logic and expectations but. Still really cool for Rockies fans there right there in the mix as for the American League wild-card and the National League wild card, well, it's a little. More interesting on the senior circuit but there are still three. Teams who, are competing for the two spots in the, AL right now it's the Yankees and the as and then the. Mariners are three and a half out. In the American League as well the National League you've got, three teams three teams who are right now tied for the two wildcard. Spot and they had the same winning percentage the exact same winning percentage. Phillies Rockies brewers then it's only a half game back to the surging, Saint Louis cardinals the dodgers Game and. A, half out the pirates of the nationals and the, giants aren't yet eliminated though it's a lot of traffic for the National League.

"They call them openers and then they just try out seven eight relievers over the course of nine innings just to make ends meet guess what Tampa Bay's got one of the best staff they are as in all of baseball, and they're playing winning baseball there to over five hundred the Oakland a.'s who have the lowest payroll, it all a baseball moneyball made a movie off of it. Do you know the Oakland as are thirteen games over five hundred thirteen games over five hundred this year. And if they were in the National League, if they were in the National League, they would have the second best record in the entire league only behind the Chicago Cubs figure about that. And right now, because the American League is so top heavy. So stacked Oakland's not even in the playoffs right now, they're on the outside looking in. If this continues my God, we're going to have to sit here and have shows about should major league baseball do what people are clamoring for the NBA to go ahead and enact and get rid of like the two different leagues and just take the ten best teams and put them in the playoffs. You know how soon before that happens, but to me, that's exciting because baseball, when you talk about developing talent and drafting players and bringing them along through your system, right? Football doesn't have a minor leagues and a farm system. You know, the NBA has the g. league. All right. He got one team big deal, right? The hockey teams? Yeah, they have minor league systems and whatnot, but no minor leagues are as deep and you don't have no sport has as many players in the throngs of their organization than you have in baseball..

"I'm not sure, if you all caught this in the midst of everything else. That was happening during the all-star festivities but. The designated hitter could soon be part, of, National. League baseball what now I know this is a great debate and by great I'm not only referring to the variety of opinions the wealth of opinions but. Also the fact that it's a massive debate so, many people get so emotional over this debate and. It's not bad, I like it I like the fact that we're tied to. Our our baseball our sports in some traditional ways there are. People out Out there at one of those who, are resistant to change, to the games that we love feel like a. Lot of times you've got commissioners and league's tinkering with the game for. No reason whatsoever. It doesn't always need to be updated and baseball is a, game that's built on tradition and. Numbers and the history And so here we go The National League could be striking. A piece of that tradition Now they've been talking about. The. Designated hitter in the National League for a long, time okay and the debate about whether or not it's fair who has? The advantage when you're an AOL? Park versus, an NFL park. How does that affect world theories I mean that's nothing new But apparently? We are, closer to that I guess now You've got major league baseball officials as well as. Front office executives Who are speaking about this possibility publicly I don't know. If you, guys follow Wainwright on Twitter I do and he had a series of tweets during the all star game on Tuesday And this was one of them Things to. "To sign them I mean if. They don't, get it may have to sign one of those two in the off season right otherwise this tenure is an absolute bust I. Mean I'm not sure it's an absolute bus. But it would be viewed as a major disappointment and you'd wonder. Why couldn't the Phillies even with John Middleton's money not not kind of land that big Of course you know and, this is the other thing there's a lot of. People on Twitter tonight who are saying well you know there in, first place with Adam will be fine What could that lineup okay there eleven, teams. Over five hundred and that's all well and good and they've done it because they've had great starting. Pitching okay but there's also some numbers that and I, put, it on Twitter Johnny I'm. Trying to, remember it on the issue came up on, my? Twitter feed here for like eleven in batting average in the National League. In slugging percentage they're they're eleven and runs scored you know these are. Not numbers that, lead to contention right and then, they're, playing in one run games planet at like a, seventy one percent winning clip that baseball general generally evens itself. Out over time and you know based on. Your. Talent level mean look if you looked at their, expected the, the pie, pathetic grim theory on what their. Win loss record should be it should be three games over, five, hundred okay which means you give a lot of credit to Capper's done but you also. Look at it as they mean if they're gonna make, a, run at this to win. This division, again in the playoffs they're going to need, reinforcements? And Machado would have made that line of better top to bottom and. I don't know if there's that piece out there that can do that. Now if they, don't if they don't acquire Machado, he, goes to that to the dodgers do the Phillies, make a move or do they just let it be well. It sounds like all the reports now are..
