"That is about it, folks. Oh, they're a favorite at home right now against the Steelers, so that's three wins. There are favorite at home against the Lions, so we'll give them four wins, although at that point, maybe people are going to be at the lines. That's it. So just based on the spreads for wins. But let me tell you something. Some of those games were there in underdog. I like them to win. And some of those games were there a favorite, I like them to lose. You know, a lot of these spreads they have one, two, three, let's see. Four, four, still on four, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9, ten, they have ten games that are currently lined at under a field goal. Whether they're the dog or the favorite, ten games on their schedule are currently spreads of under a field goal. Let that sink in. This is a team that a couple of bounces of the football here or there. They could be very, very bad and go under the 6 wins easily. Or they could be good. And maybe win 90 games. Football is a funny, funny game. I'm Scott Sadler. Hit me up on Twitter at Scott's on air SCO TTS Owen AIR coming up next. We're going to get back into Major League Baseball. "That's a long shot. It's a long shot for sure. The national league central is the closest race in the national league of the division's obviously. Cardinals, brewers, who are you backing? Cardinals at this point, I think I've seen enough out of both beams here. The Cardinals Cardinals slightly better team. Which of the wild card teams are you fearful of the most? Braves, Phillies, or Padres. Brave, braves have shown they do this already. They've won a World Series with a lot of these guys. And they're not really firing in the division four and a half games. They can still make a run. But you really, you see the additions they've made this year and it's hard to say that this braves team isn't better year over year than the one that won the World Series last year. You know, yeah, I mean, you could look at the it certainly. I like this braves roster this year and yeah, last year they made a lot of additions. They had the four big additions at the trade deadline. This year, they look really, really good in their pitching staff this year. They didn't have they didn't have a cuny last year. And the pitching staff this year is just absolutely tremendous. "Night and walker bueller pitching sunday all against the angels. This should be a sweet. Because then max scherzer pitches in philly on tuesday but these are three games with the injuries. There's no mike trout. There's no anthony rendon. They don't have to pay so tiny the pitcher. These are three games. The dodgers can win. Well i mean the thing. Is everybody's excited about. Max scherzer and i was there the other night and saw him through seven innings with ten strikeouts. And you've got a curtain call and all that stuff is really cool but man. This has got to start winning games. We are now four games behind the giant. I four days. Every one of these games is critical right now in this weekend. Especially so the giants are playing milwaukee. A team that's won sixty five games this year team. That's running away with the national league central. They've got a chance to beat up on san francisco and we need to beat up on the angels. Why not anymore. Get out of here but one. Note cody bellinger. Who's really struggling. They dropped him to eighth in the lineup. The other day In the dodgers last game on wednesday tonight after a day off yesterday. He's not even in the starting lineup. Trae turner in the lineup. I it's been cleared for. I don't know just been cleared yet. I know he's supposed to be here this weekend. We may see him before. The weekend is Salute granderson his final show. "I think now today it would be it would be. It would be tough to imagine the reds right. Now trading louise castio. It would be tough to imagine the reds trading nick castalanos by the way really quick. Because i'm looking at twitter right now. Just beat be wary of fake accounts because a radio station that i follow just fell for one a radio station. I'm not gonna mention the a radio station. Not in cincinnati that i that i follow. I like that has people added that. I care about just fell for a fake jeff. Passan be wary of the fake. Jeff passan's ken rosenthal. just be. just be careful follow the right people pay attention to the right people but i think as as of right now where we right now. I think it would go down as a surprise to most if the reds after winning three straight in chicago and after acquiring three relief pitchers this week it would be a surprise if the reds pivoted in the direction of selling doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be buyers and what we're going to confront it for o'clock is is an obvious question regardless of whether or not there is another move to be made between now and four o'clock or if they're done at four o'clock today we have to take a look at team take a look at where they are in relation to first place in the national league central. Take a look at where they are in relation to the last wildcard spot behind the san diego padres and talk about whether or not. "Tommy thrall is going to be on this show at about ten minutes. The voice of the reds. And i'm excited to talk with him. It goes without saying that if the reds are gonna win the national league central. They need a lot of things to go right. I of put the number right now at ninety nine one which would mean the reds have to go forty two and thirty. Maybe it only takes eighty eight. Maybe it only takes eighty-seven i don't know but i'm putting it at ninety so that would mean forty two in thirty you play. That's five eighty three baseball. You play five. Eighty three baseball over the course of a season. You're about ninety four and a half wins round that up to ninety five. This this team is basically going to have to play ninety five win baseball over the final seventy two games. I think that is doable. But there's a lot of different things that go into that but you know how the sports talk. Radio game works right. We have to boil it down to like what's most important. Or what's the biggest x-factor. I'm gonna do that. I'm going to operate from the sports. Talk radio handbook because there are three things to me that i've been thinking about for the majority of the day and none of these are earth shattering. We i think we all know. There's a lot of guys who have to play better than they did. In the first half of the season there are some guys who have to perform at least the at a similar level to what they did in the first half of the season. There are some guys that obviously the reds need to get healthy and need to get good performances from them. I like we're this team is at right now from a starting pitching perspective in to me quite frankly. That's that's the biggest key now. I know great analysis Doctorate level analysis most says in order for team to win a division. Starting pitching has to be really good but for all of the improvements that the reds have made offensively since last year and for as great as cassiano has been and for his great july. Not is jesse winker has been. I think if this team is ideally constructed that it is fair to say that the place on the team that is most likely to represent its biggest strength. Is the starting staff now again. You'll.

"Drill take like ten swings and it'd be ready to go but not the full bore batting practice on the field otani hoarding. Jeremy read his never taken batting practice. This year egos. He does a few flip drills he gets ready and then he just rakes against the best pitchers in the world. What do you think so. His regular season at bats are his batting practice. That's insane and when we see him hitting those home runs and everything that he does. It almost looks like as batting practice for. That's that's crazy. I mean the first thing that comes to mind. Actually when you say that is that is just how great joe madden has been as his manager for this year and managing the fact that he's pitching and hitting. I think we've talked about how that's a really good individual to be managing that and i can remember back to cubs as and probably in his raves. As as well. Joe madden is not the world's champion of batting practice. I know that he is pretty vocal about having his team and his guys not take it if they don't want to. I can remember that when the cubs are on a couple slumps. Post two sixteen everything else. So it's really interesting that this is happening under him. And i feel like there's something related there but imagine your first batting practice and the year is at course field in the homerun derby. I mean now. I'm a little bit stress for him like he's used to ninety five and now it's going to be lobbed in there i mean. I hope this doesn't affect his derby. Preparation which i know is not the immediate reaction here. But that's what i'm thinking about. I'm curious you know hoping to do more reporting this later today tomorrow. And i'm hoping to get more Specific information about what his derby preparations action going to be. I knew you would have fun with that. It's amazing how quickly polarized standings are going to be. I was looking at it This week earlier. In the week. I was thinking about the trademark. It and looking at how the nationally west seems have essentially made the wildcard accessible for the national league central nationally east teams the american league. We're starting to see some separation. Sarah with houston now five and a half games at oakland and the white sox taking advantage of this complete collapse by the cleveland indicates. Absolutely no we talked. Was that last week or earlier this week. I can't even remember about the national league and about trade options. And the fact that as you said i mean the highest playoff odds as of right now for any team. That isn't those rental any team that isn't currently in playoff position is the reds at seventeen point eight percent so it's a huge drop off right. Everybody else is in the eighties. Plus or seventy seventy nine plus But yeah in the american league now. Ninety six percent chance to make the playoffs right now. Ninety six percent chance to win the division. I know a lot of the indians issues are obviously crystallized with these seven innings. Being no hick yesterday but you know the truth is that they've been on this decline. I mean they were built on pitching and pitching has been heard. I don't think there's anyone you can blame. That's just you know what happened. They were never going to be a big offensive team. They've been a big offensive team in this entire run that they've been on and when shane beeper went down and everybody else in that rotation also you know they've dealt with injuries volume please and so on and so forth that it wasn't going to be sustainable and the astros i mean they have the best offense in are in in baseball. Excuse me and that's really come to late over last month or so and if you look at wait a runs created plus or anything else i mean. They are far in a way ahead of pretty much every team in everything except home runs. But they're hitting enough home runs. They're just not leaving the league in it. So i do think that that that distances them from the as so big question as you get closer to trade deadline is. What are the biggest needs for contenders. I'll give you three. You can add on to anything. That i met your. You can chime in with a couple of your own Needs among contenders. The dodgers think clearly need at starting pitcher clayton kershaw going on the list with an elbow inflammation. I don't know if that's just. The dodgers manage their pitchers knitting probably as much or more than any franchise in baseball. We don't know how serious is for kershaw but the fact is hirsch on the angeles with trevor. Bauer out indefinitely. And i'll be talking about his situation coming up with with the jesse. Rogers i think they need to go out and get somebody. The astros could use a late inning. Reliever is on it to me by executive earlier in the week how they are so good in so many respects but they could use that death and when you look at the red sox in this success date had it's been surprising. I do think that they're going to need reinforcement zoo. Go along with that pitching staff. We know the sale could come back. I think they could use a late inning. Reliever like craig kimbrel. Sarah what do you think about those or any others that come to mind. Absolutely i mean. I agree with all of those i mean. I think we've been thinking about the red sox. Pitching help needs even as the season started and they were off to the surprising. Start just because..

I think we have arrived at the point of the season where we can mention what the other teams in the national league central are doing at least the contending teams which means that right now. We are only mentioning. The milwaukee brewers the cubs are eight and a half game overruled for this. Okay as long as you are within a week of first place in the national league central. We will mention what your team is doing now. If you're the reds obviously will mention no matter what. The brewers lead this division over six by cincinnati. So it's worth mentioning that tonight. "Brew Well, today, the Reds go for the sweep. They go for the sweep over the Colorado Rockies, and it's kind of an intriguing day too, because the Reds will now start another picture. Making his major league debut. Yes, it'll be Tony Santy it on the mound today for the Cincinnati Reds as they try to build off what they've done the last couple of nights and what they've done. The last couple of nights has been nothing short of amazing. 21 runs 24 hits in the last two games. They beat the Rockies yesterday. 10 to 3. Nick Castellanos went two for five. Joey Votto two for five. Hey, you hate your Suarez, two for five and no home runs all the runs generated without the benefit of a home run. Nixon. Wait. Miley's seven innings, six hits, three earned runs, three strikeouts in one walk to go six and four, and they've got the Reds who are now winners. Seven of their last 10 games. Brewers of the Cubs, both one on Saturdays to the Reds are tied Would ST Louis five games back each team at 31 31. So it's kind of amazing. There are 100 games to go in this season. 62 games in the book, and the Reds have accomplished what they've accomplished with Joey Votto hitting only 2 28 missing 28 games. Mike Mushtaq is still not in the line up to 41 average. He's missed 34 games. Nick Sans Elle has missed 16 games. Still recovering from surgery shows a lot. Akiyama missed the first month of the season, and now he's just being filtered back into the lineup. You figure in a U Julio Suarez hitting just 1 70. Luis Castillo, just two and nine with the 6.47 earned run average and allowing a team high nine home runs and Sonny Gray now back on the injured list. It's kind of amazing that the Reds have made it to the 500 level. Bullpen dead last in Major League baseball, and he already the second, uh, the worst in Major League baseball and the second most walks allowed. And the entire staff next to last in E R. A. And still Here are the Reds. Hanging around five games, just five games out of first place. In the National League Central Division. As we begin this this game this afternoon against the Rockies, you know there are a lot of players that are intriguing this far in the major lake season, there may not be any more intriguing than the Los Angeles Angels Shohei Otani. Has 40 45 R B I At this point in the season, he's hitting 2 70. Oh, and by the way, He leads his home run. His team at home runs with 17 at Otani is a pitcher. He's also a heck of a two way player. He's played in 59 games, but he's not hitting. He's the D. H and Otani at this point is V, a team so well, he's hitting to 70 to 70 right now. So here Tony is the class of two way player that Major league Baseball hasn't seen the likes up. Maybe since the days of Babe Ruth. Somebody that knows about this story very well was my guest on one of my shows. Recently, he's Scott Miller noted. Baseball writer lives in the Bay Area of California. And wrote a story in The New York Times about two weeks ago, the unleashing of Shohei Otani Tommy John surgery recovered from that two way player, one of the best in the history of baseball. What makes him so good? You want to interview seller? Uh, you know, as you said, I mean, he's Yeah, he is. He's uh, you know, as you said, I mean, he's you know, for for those that enjoy some of the moderns that you know, exit velocity. He's hit some of the hardest balls this year. Pitching wise, You know, he's clocked in the upper tier fastballs in the game. Um, it only runs. I mean, yeah, all around your point. Amazing athletes. I mean, this guy's got, you know a handful of steals this year. In fact, one thing I love and at this point The fact that this guy is a gamer and an athlete that's well rounded. A couple weeks ago in Seattle when the Angels were in Seattle. Otani said. The plate and the picture drills him with pitch and you know as a like 95 mile an hour fastball hurt a little bit and I'll carry you know wasn't happy. So what did he do? He takes first. Well, he takes off and steal second, and then he steals third. Best thing you do when he was on Thursday. So you know, he's one of the Angels. He's their best starting pitcher, and he's along with Mike Trout. You know, one of the couple best hitters on the team and really, really Fascinating. And, you know, I think one of the most important players in the game right now simply because No, He's doing something that you know Nobody's done regularly since Babe Ruth back in the day, you know, and we had. There were a couple players in the in the Nero leagues that did it, including 11 of my all time favorite nickname, said Radcliffe. You know, used to catch Satchel Paige and he pitched and he earned the nickname double duty because he did both. And, uh, you know, we'll tally is double duty and awesome. Well, yeah, as you point out, Babe Ruth did that Did this all those years ago Now? You weren't around to cover Babe Ruth and as old as I am, I was not around to cover day group. We've seen flashes of this. In modern day baseball. The name that comes immediately to mind was Rick and Keel, who came up as a as a pitcher and then reinvented himself as an outfielder. The Reds drafted a guy a couple of years ago he's been hurt. What had the ability to play both in the field and throw and throw with great velocity and hunter green, But nobody really has brought this kind of a of a package together. Since Ruth there've been others along the way, as you point out, Sam McDowell being one of them, but nobody like he. Nobody like Otani. I think the Angels Have played 50 51 games. He's been in virtually every one of them. I think he's only missed a couple of games. He's an amazing amazing athlete, but has the ability to go out there and dominate both as a hitter in a picture? The pitching thing really is fun to watch because he's wild. I mean, he is he can he can get out there, but I think his strikeout to nine inning ratio is just it's nuts. It's the last I checked with this check. The stats on this guy is strikeout to nine inning ratio. Was was off the charts. Great. What is it? What is it about his ability to to pitch have some control problems, But then just blow some guys away. I'm glad he matches. You know, there were a couple guys that tried to do this that got hurt. And, of course, Otani had Tommy John surgery a couple years ago. So he's he's. The interesting thing about him this year is that he's finally healthy again. Number one. And number two. The unleashed part of it is When he first came over, the Angels tried to replicate how he mostly was handled in Japan. So what happened is early before the Tommy John surgery. They would you know, say he's pitching on Saturday they would not put him in the lineup on Friday they would give him a day off Friday to prepare for his start. Then on Saturday, he pitched, but he They have a designated hitter. They just ain't focused on pitching. And as Sunday, usually one in the lineup because he'd take a day to recover. The unleashed part of it this year. They've decided now that he's healthy. You know, Tony was coming off. He had a rough year last year as he was trying to get healthy and They? They've taken all these rules off. So now it's almost like Otani is going back to being a kid again playing a kid's game and he's having a ball..

"Of social media. Your information station is wtmj. Kevin well, citing unlimited WTMJ news time coming up on 8 10 on the field inside the clubhouse. Everything in between. This is Brewer's weekly. Why, from the Annex Wealth Management studios at Radio City Here's Mack Holling. We have quite a show tonight. We'll just tell you in about five minutes. Jordan Zimmerman is going to join us. Newest Brewers pitcher Mildly contract invite to spring training, He'll try to Ah Make the club join the rotation. Guy says he has a lot left in the tank. And if he if he looks anything like who he was in Washington, my goodness that Zbig addition for the Brewers. He's been battling some injuries the last few years. The numbers have not been is good with the with the tiger, so we'll talk with him coming up in just a few minutes. Ryan Braun spoke with Adama Calvi of brewers dot com this past week says right now he has no intention of plane. But he is continuing to stay in shape. What does that mean? What does that mean? I'll tell you what I think it means we'll do that coming up later on the hour, we'll talk about in game video. It is coming back in a way, if you remember if you have followed along through everything that's happened. And this in this world we live in sometimes two areas kind of collide and with the end game video and Major League baseball It was a case of covert protocols and the reaction to the Astros cheating scandal colliding when they closed down all the video rooms because you already had the scandal and Major league Baseball was trying to make sure that there was no funny business going on with the video, and then you don't want people congregating in these video rooms together. When you got Cove it going strong. So last year, there was no in game video. When hitters got done with that bats. There was no way for them to go Look at the video, and you might not think it's a big deal and kind on the surface level. I understand what people don't think It's a big deal. Let me tell you That's a big deal. It's a really big deal. Ah lot of hitters and major League baseball heavily rely on the end game video and it was not coming to them during during the season this past year and Often ill. I've said this statistic nine million times since the season ended, the Brewers just had their worst season hitting ever worst season ever worst team batting average ever. And they were second in the National League Central in here. It is. It is one of the most astounding statistics that I've ever seen in my years of being around baseball, and there are a lot of reasons that that's true. But one of those reasons, absolutely, was the not having video anymore. In game video going to be back in a way, although video rooms will not be back. Explain that coming up later on in the hour as well, if you want to join us, you can always do so. 85561616 22 take 5561616 20 That is the accident. "Black and Abdullah till you're smart Speaker. Toto play Yes, Me and 1000. Yes, is Chicago's home for sports? ESPN 1000. That's what all you said it yesterday. The Tuesday following This Super Bowl isn't when we start the baseball season. It's baseball season. That's when that's when we lock in and we get ready for baseball. You see the pictures today home with white socks, ESPN 1000 Len KASPER. Awesome drinking in Beautiful, guaranteed rate. Snow. Look, it's early man. That's why they go to Arizona in a week, and they stay out in Arizona until the season starts. And look, there might be that much snow out there for opening day. Well, that sometimes that's how it is. Hopefully not hopefully not welcome to Chicago. It's kind of help. Sometimes that's how it works. And that's OK. That's why they That's why they're in Arizona. But here's what's important Snow or not. You will hear land on the air right here on ESPN. 1009 Casper calling your White Sox games right here on ESPN 1000 last night, we talked about the Pako to projections for the season. The Chicago Cubs. Can they win the NL Central after trading away Yu Darvish and kind of trying to figure out this line of adding Jack Peterson? It's not like the Cubs are just a barren team. They have an opportunity to still compete. Absolutely. And I think that the look They're confusing. We don't have money. We're trading way. Yu Darvish, wait a minute. Wait a minute. We've got money now. Oh, here's Jack Peterson. Shock Peterson. When you I mean, Yeah, He's better defensively than Schwarber. But I don't. I don't know what they're doing over there. So let's talk baseball with one of our favorite guests. Russell Dorsey from the Chicago Sun Times He covers the Chicago Cubs. You can follow him on Twitter at Russell underscored Dorsey one Russell. Help us figure out this Cubs team. Who are they heading into this season? Well, First of all, guys, good being with you, as always real quick. Before we get in the baseball I was listening to a song in the night Love it and for you guys as hip hop fans. I don't know if you guys have watched Hip hop evolution on Netflix, probably the best theories that they have on there, And there's an episode about super producers where they talk about they caught to Missy Elliott. Timberland that tunes J. Dilla and Kanye and The part about Kanye is like super interesting and digs into that beginning of, you know, polo backpack, Kanye, which everybody loves. So That's great and then also there's only five good songs on like with Pablo. I see, said 45 told you I gotta watch for the dill apart. That zone is good. That's too deep for song of the night. I feel like if I pulled out of J Dilla song that would've been a little too deep for song of the night. Yet. Probably. How will you keep it a little life, right? I guess the answer your question about who are the Cubs right now. Get there. Don't want to cop out and say, I don't know, but I think with the moves that they've made, they could be a lot of different things that could be a aging team at the end of the road. They can be a team in a period of transition. It could be a team that still has a chance to compete in what will likely be a really bad National League Central. I think all those things are true. I think there's a Team That's probably going to change and look a lot different in next couple of years, and they we know them to be their team that can still compete even with no air Amato coming into the National League Central With that big move by the Cardinals. And their team that still has some questions to answer before we get to opening day and 50 days, So it's gonna be an interesting year. I don't think comes we're gonna be terrible. I think they'll be in the thick of things. Whether it's in the National League Central race or the wild card, But I don't necessarily think it will be the cub that we've seen over the last five years like it'll take I'm adjusting to get used to this new reality of Cubs baseball. So literally, as you're answering the question, they tweet out the wishing all the best to Albert Almora. Is he officially signs with another team. So is this a team that Is going to kind of play their moves by ear, and if they come out of the gate, and it's not strong, and they're not competing, and they're kind of having a losing season, then they'll look to deal. Guys like Chris Brian Harvey bias or they just we're going to try to compete. We're not looking to rebuild. We're looking to reload at this time. Yeah, I think it would be it would the whole behoove them to be in either the Are off to get off the hot start or you'll be this team that, Hey, they're not that great And then you can start selling some pieces off. I think the part about Trading Bryant training bias or whoever is You can't let everybody walk right? You can't trade everybody you're gonna have to build Around somebody because you don't want to become the Detroit Tigers. You don't want to become the fillies before. Harper where you know you waited so long, and then guys walked or got old and you couldn't trade them. You're gonna have to build around somebody so that in the next year, two years where guys like Brennan Davis comes up guys like Magellan, Maya when Raylan Marquez is ready to take a spot in that rotation You have, you know, a veteran star who still you know, in the midst of their prime to build around, and I do think that guy's still Harvey bias. Not thing that they might not entertain that with Brian as well, but it seems like hobby would be the one That you would build around, But, yeah, I think if we get to June 1st and the Cubs are in third or fourth place in the division, I think it would make it that much easier for jet hired to pull the Trigger on on some deals and prepare the team for the future. Russell Dorsey from the Chicago Sun Times talking baseball with blocking them Dolly here on ESPN. 1000 Russell. When we look at the White Sox did they do enough in this offseason to prepare themselves to win the American League? I would say.

For for Illinois as they upset Iowa, 80 to 75. Ever talked about baseball in a minute. Let's change that ST. Louis Cardinals are finalizing a trade to acquire third baseman Nolan are in auto from the Colorado Rockies. Here's Jeff Passan with more This connection goes back months, and the ST Louis Cardinals were always the perfect trade partner for the Colorado Rockies. If they were gonna move knowing are not, Oh, the Cardinals can take on money and they were willing to put the question was exactly how much were they willing to and when that number got up to 50 million or so dollars being sent from the Rockies? To the Cardinals to cover the 199 million remaining on Owen are not those contract. All the sudden the deal came together a lot more quickly. Now I want to caution. This is not done at this point. There's still all sorts of complications. Whether it's his opt out clause and whether he may get another one of those, whether it's major league baseball approving that amounts of cash going from one club to another. In whether it's on auto, approving the trade and waving his no trade clause, But when it's all said and done, this is expected to be finalized, and it's gonna be a big big deal in the National League Central. It took only one year to get to this point with Colorado because Wendell and are not committed to that eight year $260 million contract. He did so believing That the Rockies were going to build around him when they did not go out and spend after a disappointing 2019 season that frustrated him. He felt like he'd been lied to. And at that point when he's getting into a beef with general manager Jeff Brightest with the Colorado Rockies, all the sudden it felt like it was a fate accompli that he was going to leave at some point, and yet because there's an opt out after the 2021 season in his contract, it's a complication because he's $199 million for the next six years. That's thought to be a complication as well. But they were able to bridge those gaps with the Cardinals and ultimately come together on a deal that doesn't return a ton of talent. Colorado, but really when it all came down to it, this was about getting somebody who did not want to be there out of there and trying to save money in the process. 61 days until the MLB season starts on Lee eight until the Super Bowl. "Aspect of all this is the continuous action. And at the ball never stops. We we've done that debate a gazillion times that I'm not interested in Internet doing that again. But the fact that matter is baseball's got to include more action at an early age for kids, and that starts with kids not being asked to pitch as early as they are on their life or at the distance there. Pitching at Susan Balls could be put in play and again, if that means another season of T ball followed by then whatever you're doing, if you're doing, coach pitch, or or Machine pitch. Another season of that. It doesn't matter in the end. If it's not traditional baseball, it matters that it's leading the more action. And then you know, it's somebody say today. Well, they need the baseball bunch back on Saturdays. You know, you know, like Tommy Lasorda used to do and the San Diego Chicken and well, they do do a Saturday morning and they'll be network show. It's called Called the play ball show. It's on a 10 a.m., and it's geared towards kids. It's ah young baseball players. I don't know that there's a don't know if Harold Reynolds is the host of that. I think maybe he was in the past. I don't know if he still doesn't but they incorporate. They incorporate drills like with current major league players like kids. Here's how to turn the double play stuff like that. It's kind of a knockoff of the baseball bunch that used to be on on Saturdays back in the day, but it's stuff like that. That's gotta be part of the initiative for Baseball to connect with more kids at the grassroots level and Major League baseball if it connects at the lowest level of it that it takes care of the kids growing up to be 8 10 12 14 going to major league games. I mean, in the pecking order, if you don't get them when they're 678 years old there, you know, you're not gonna have to worry about getting him to ballparks are watching baseball games. And when they're 10 12 14 16 because they're always gonna be turned off by it. If you get him hooked, you're in. If you don't you're you'll never get him. We come back, maybe a little bit on that some or your I do want to get into the National League Central next know peace today in Sports Illustrated wondered if anybody really wants to win the National League Central. "Sports talk great to have you with us on this overcast and cloudy day here in the tri state with rain and possibly snow moving in so Look at it this way. We have that to look forward to, and if it's going to do it, why not do it other than a communique? And wouldn't it be nice? It. Wouldn't it be great if this were the middle of July, and it was baseball season and We could all go to the games. What we don't know about that. Yet. Baseball doesn't know about that. Yet. There has been a reticence for a lot of teams to sign Big League contract's reticent to sign free agents. The budgeting for a lot of teams is very much in limbo. San Diego is out signing players like you know, they've got money to burn, and in some cases they do. San Diego is loading up, but most other teams have been judicious in whom they sign. Including the Cincinnati Reds. Now let's face it if you look at the Reds right now, even in a week, National League Central Division you're probably asking yourself, okay. What's the pathway to get to a division title? Trevor Bauer is gone. Trevor Bauer is gone. He was your race. He hasn't signed anywhere yet, although the Los Angeles Angels seem to be the latest destination for him. We'll see. But here we are, hopefully three weeks away from the start of spring training pitchers and catchers reporting In just three weeks. Rotation right now looks to be Luis Castillo. Remember that rumor that pop last Sunday? Castillo is going to the Yankees. It's a done deal on this, and that never happened. Did they talk? Sure did they think they were going to get more than what they were being offered by the Yankees? Probably. Is that the reason why he's not there? Absolutely. You have Luis Castillo and you have Sonny Gray. And then after that What you got. Paranormal. He's been around for a while, but he can pitch he could throw. You knows how to navigate through a major league game and navigating through a major league game anymore. For starters, about five innings Wade. Miley. Yeah, he's older, but still knows how to pitch. He may not throw, but he can pitch. And you've gotten Ensign, who was bounced back and forth, at least on the Depth charts between the bullpen between starting between being 1/5 starter between being a closer Lorenzen probably would be best left in the bullpen, but that still leaves you at least one and maybe two other spots to fill. So the Reds have been busy in the last week, signing pictures, not starting pitchers at best depth for their bullpen at best players that come here on the come Hoping that people like Kyle Body and Derrick Johnson, who are you have a long track record of working with pictures that haven't worked other places and spending them into something that can be useful. Siano Perez left hander the Astros had him and traded him. Hector Perez, a right hand of the Blue Jays had him and traded him like Seattle Perez here to the Reds this week. The pot's at best. They're both just bullpen guys. If indeed they even make The roster coming out of spring training. I think a lot of what's going on really now. And this is going to sound nuts. Because if you've watched the red well, it wouldn't be the first time I said something like that. If you've watched the Reds over the course off the 60 games last year. The name that I keep coming back to For this this this pitching rotation as a possible fourth starter who knows, maybe even a third starter. Is TJ Antone. PJ Antone. Out his fastball in his curve ball. I'm not going to get deep into sabermetrics or new metrics that baseball has next gen stats and all that. There's a big premium right now on spin rate. Everyone who wants to know what's the guy's spin rate on a curve ball on a fastball? And for most of his time leading up to last year's shortened season. TJ Antone's spin rate was at best pedestrian. It went off the charts last year and his appearances. I get a feeling that it's nothing more than that. It's nothing more than looking at the at the stats with sabermetrics and what he did last year. That he could be. Somebody that just comes out of the blue to the average fan, Not the Red's not the body, not to Derrick Johnson out of the blue. Have a pretty big you. Pretty big year pitchers and catchers of his report in three weeks. The big question with the Cincinnati Reds and we're going to get into this as we progress on through the next three hours. Plays shortstop. Pretty. Galvis is still out there, but they've cut and run from Freddy Galvis. There's still the three big names and free agency Marcus Semi and DeeDee Rig aureus L dropping Simmons. Jose Garcia remains in the system. But Garcia in 68 plate appearances in last year's shortened season. He's whipped 26 times with 26 times. Walked only once that is most experienced before spot play last year and again a 60 game season was no higher that advanced able So what about Simeon Gregorius and and Simmons? Because I think from those three you gotta find your shortstop there. And my guess is that's exactly What Nick crawl on his staff or up to right now they're not rushing out to sign any of those three. They may want the market to set itself After one signs. They may all sign. I mean, other than Simeon. Who has just under a nine war wins above replacement terrific player who had a offer your last year. Little bit simian. They're all Gregorius and Simmons are about the same Simeon. 2 23 is on base percentage last year was 305. I'm not going to get into the rest of the stuff that that I like. But it may make if you're not into baseball, math, you may make your eyeballs roll in the back of your head. But in 2019, this guy had to 85 drove in 92. What's his problem that why is he out there while he's 30? You also made $13 million last year playing for the Oakland A's. I doubt seriously unless this process goes deep and by deep I mean well into spring training, I doubt seriously if Marcus Semien and is going to be looking for anything less than that..

"You're fine. Do you mean you're you're fine. You're fine. Okay, As is the Cubs could be the favorite to win the National League Central. Yeah, as is as though the next two drops and Danny goes Wise. They just traded get Paris. Well, I just need to know how much more payroll you need to shed. There's more coming. Oh, there's more coming. Oh, yeah. Socks keypad again? Yes. How much did they cut? Add that much to my paper. All you little off the top E thinks in payroll. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? Well, a lot of money spending there. There's not one person goes through the turnstile. And the amazing thing was. I was watching some video of him last night in the guy's legit, Jerry. Uh, Liam had Oh, I said e guess who reads who tweeted out video of him. Trevor Bauer. About how you're good. Liam Hendriks is Miller. How excited are you? Your socks? Diehard, like there are less and less. It's harder and harder to find any holes on this roster right now with what they're doing on the page on paper. You got yourself a lockdown Closer. I'll give James Fagan of the athletic credit because he wrote up a breakdown of this, and he mentioned how Tony LaRussa in his book, One last strike, used to have debates with his pitching his longtime pitching coach, Dave Duncan. About whether you'd rather have a nice at the top of your staff or locked down closer. And Tony LaRussa always said I want. Give me the lockdown closer because that, you know, then the bullpen falls in the place. Look, you've got Tony LaRussa, and now you've got exactly what he's always wanted. And It's funny because they add him from the A's and White Sox fans can remember now as the playoffs this season. And you know it ended two at the hands of the A's. You had Liam Hendriks come out in game to throw 49 pitches and just shut down the White Sox in Game two. And everyone thought, Okay, well, Likelihood that he'll be available in Game three is probably not very high, but oh no, no, no Liam Hendriks in Game three when the A's eliminated the white sex from the playoffs this year, said Give me the ball went out there struck out the side in 14 pitches. I mean, this is a guy who has an attitude of he's got the old school. Closer mentality. Give me the ball. I'm gonna end this. I think it locks of perfectly and now the great thing is the White Sox had a good bullpen, but they didn't have the guy who you knew yet was going to be the closer. I'm not saying they couldn't have found that guy in this pen. What to know. You have a guy who you trust in the ninth inning and then you've got a lot of high velocity arms. Garrick Rochet. You know what I mean? Aaron. Bummer. So I went through analytical site last night. Two of the top eight relievers in baseball number one. Liam Hendriks, number eight. Erin Bummer. I mean, two of the top eight. Take that. It's all right. We got Ryan to Pere. He got an M V P vote it take that. It's pretty good to be a White Sox fan right now to Paris. Really Good little lime on top Tip. Parent temper. Oh, I beg your pardon? Well, it's the same way Do you see the season coming back? That's the same. You put a little live on him this upcoming season. I just, You know, I just look at the Capitol. I'm just very optimistic and we're gonna have some news here. Coming up very soon. Here. We're gonna have some some crazy dude, please. He's breaking news on Chicago's home for sports. ESPN. 1000 Way turned out to veteran newsman Dan Settlement when breaking news here on Capitol Hill. Danny Control's gone bright. What is it that we get it for it and Maggie Gentlemen. Good morning. No. Unfortunately, that is not the news of the day. The news of the day is more money being spent by Chicago Sports franchise. The Chicago Blackhawks and coach Jeremy Carlton have signed a two year contract extension. The new contract runs through the 2022. 2023 season. Hey, boys Like my hat like my shoes. What about my watch? Let's go boys to your extension, Dinner on me everything even though everything else was closed, Let's go on out. How about that to your extension? You hear me? I need you to be just good dude to the media just deal with the team because you're going to get your ass kicked this year. There's not gonna be a stories about you getting fired. I'll extend you that means they're going nowhere anytime so nowhere that the transition continues on the West side. Correct. That's why he's still in place. You're not ready to win yet. Okay, so the White Sox are two whose arrow is clearly pointing up You like my watch Another two years. Quinn Ville top line. Let's go, boys, let's go voices. That is why we should all be rejoicing that Jeremy Collins and got a new contract. That alone work years of three year extension for the Hoody Callison impression. Beautiful. Yes, Let's do this. Like my shoes. Two more years to socks are team whose arrow is clearly pointing up the bears. On the other hand, let's go boys so much. Rex Ryan destroyed Matt Maggie. Destroyed him. "Me. Okay, Well, that's true that that is true. Yeah, right. If you're fast enough to sustain life, right, and then they crawl right up to you, and you can't get out of their way fast enough, They will go all the way to the right. It's a disguise Me then it is actually it. Is it actually the autobahn. It's brutal the way that the way that the roads are right now and during covert has gotten worse. Because the fewer people out of here we're just Yeah, they're driving ridiculous are out of their mind. And some people thought that Jed Hoyer, the Cubs were out of their minds when they traded Yu Darvish. Jesse warned us of this. Yeah. Well, let's see. I thought the Cubs going forward saying, Okay, if you haven't got rid of Kris Bryant yet You're probably not bringing Schwarber bag You said we weren't going to with that. You know, it doesn't mean anything. You could always last minute offer of another deal. But if Kris Bryant's their biases their results there you have Hendrix. You had Darvish and you had Alec Mills is like, okay, maybe you can compete and what is not necessarily a very strong National League Central, But now you look at it and they moved Irish and They get four kids, and I said, Well, they should also get Zach Davies. They get Zach Davies, who I think is 50 and 36 in his career isn't above 500 pitcher. He's you know, middle of of the rotation kind of guy, but it's just as a cub fan. You've got to be a little Frustrated, I would think because you know, in 2016, you were the world. Syria's You get to the playoffs. It was five or six years, but you don't get it. You don't get to the World Series again, and it had to be frustrating. That is just getting From most confidence. I've talked to just getting to the winning the world Syriza's The one was enough. Others, which is which I love seeing. It's like OK, now you set the bar higher. You've got to do better. Well, I think We all thought, including Sox fans looking up at the North side. Thought, you know, this is maybe one or two, maybe three championship team. They all did. Yeah, and everybody did Because of the way they were built. They thought they got there early. You know this? This just looks like, you know, saving money. To me. I mean, it's growth. It's moving forward. But saving some money does this makes does the feel resignation? Make more sense? I got yes to to be there were on something was looking at it like, okay. All you want to do is cut. I don't want my name on this right by let let Jed Hoyer takeover dollars, so he so he could get yelled at explain all the moves that they're not going to be able to make or the moves that are gonna, you know, make my trading away. Younger guys wanted his his legacy here in Chicago. I came. You know I came. He saw he conquered yet And then all of a sudden you're not there. I'm not in for another round. I'm out. And he did that in Boston, too. I know he had a hard time in Boston. But you know, he brought that city a couple of championships. Two will chase the guy that listens all the time. He's a big fan of black and of dollars. He listens us all the time, too. We really appreciate it, he said. He has no podcast. Pretty cool. Two cubs can probably compete the bad Central. I understand movie you based on the potential return back, but it ended up looking underwhelming. Time will tell. Yeah, it's and we'll tell the problem with it is You know they had, They said it was not a salary dump, but that they also were above the luxury tax for two years in a row that it was no. They had to get below that we were going to do it again. I mean, why would you really admit that if you don't have to totally admit that if you dance around it Yeah, well, it goes back to the capital. Lot of other people they want they want. I can't rember the word, but they want everybody to explain exactly what it is they're doing now. General managers don't need told disclosure. They want that They want transparency. That's where the bones are. They want transparency about what they're doing. General managers don't need transparent You're only going to get a certain amount transferred. The trick is to seem like you're very transparent when you're out, Not actually. Well, everybody does it. Everybody thought deal was very transparent and the white sacks for the most part are team that where they make deals. You don't know about it. They sneak up and all of a sudden They got who they got. Lance Lynn, right? There was no rumors. Where'd that come from? Right right. But it does seem on a certain level that they are a bit transparent. Yet they still do that. That's the trick to appear to be transparent, but not give away all the secrets because the last you know what All of the teams are monitoring what everybody else, says. And when the eight spirit that they had to figure out Okay says Lion, is this guy lion? Or is he serious and be serious? Does that help us? What we're trying to build trust game? It really is. And I was never good at chess. My brother was great at it. I was okay. Checkers. Just taking me. Okay, crowd me, Whatever it is, he goes. Just stop. Just don't play chess over your figure it out or just leave me alone, and he's younger to me. He's a He's a mutt. You haven't figured out the chest. He was talking about The Queen's gambit. He said. Always. We're gonna big deal about the first move. He said. You know what? After the first movie, you still got to do everything else, right? It doesn't really matter what your first move is. You gonna pull your part part out two point he goes. Yeah. Yeah. Go ahead. And he said, that's the part he didn't like about the movie, you know, and the chest Then we have a chess game sitting in front of us. That will actually, son, uh, twitch, but Just sets. I just know the horse makes big seller. Very big seller for Christmas. I'm bad Cove it And you know what else is comeback puzzles, My friend. Yeah, I did one earlier last time you didn't put earlier year 2000 piece puzzle with beer labels. Wow. And usually I did it while drinking beer. I mean, really symmetry. Nothing stops you. Why? Why should it? Thanks, Eric. For all of his help, Don't forget. I'll be back tomorrow with Brian Handley. We have the points back. Sports World.

"So here's what we know on the surface as we wait the official announcement of the other fifty nine games on the red season. We know it is sixty games. We will run through September twenty seventh. In terms of regular season, we know the reds are playing the national league central, and we know they'll play the American league central by the way if it's reds tigers opening day. What about Luis Castillo Versus Matthew Boyd? Maybe I'll ask David Bell about debt. I'm sure there's nothing David Bellwood. Rather be asked. Hey, schedules out officially. Who's your opening day starter? That coming up at at six thirty five, we know. NL Central Ale central. And I looked at what has been released from the national. League east, there were not six game were not six game ups against rivals. There was a thought in one stage of this process that they might make your natural rival at six games here in. Essence the reds and Indians playing six games three here three there in the early schedule releases. Six matchups during the season, the early proposal was going to be six versus your biggest rival, and then maybe lop off to against somebody else in that opposite division in this case being the American league central. We're waiting on that cubs, colonels, pirates brewers ten times. Each Butler tells me. That's forty Indians twins, White SOx tigers, royals, perhaps four times each times five equaling a total of twenty games. Let's

"In baseball including for, the Washington. Nationals who enter. Tonight's play six games behind the Phillies for first place in. The NFL east Atlanta of course in. Second four and a half games in front of. The nationals is Washington's had a good week in terms of record but they haven't really gained any ground in their playoff chase the nationals sit right. Now four and a half behind the Braves for the second wildcard spot in the National League is well Atlanta also off tonight only the. Phillies out of the top three teams in the NFL east playing and Philadelphia's in Arizona with a scoreless game in the fourth the Braves And nationals will actually play each other in a four game series that starts tomorrow with a. Double header tonight Jake Arrieta facing Zach godly at chase field, area was, Owen four, with a six sixty six ERA in June four, and with, a two eighty in July this is his first start in the month of August Phillies. Have played well against the, nationally west in fact they've played above. Five hundred against every division they've encountered this year only the cubs Yankees and Red, Sox can, say the same the Diamondbacks in first place to in the National League West as Arizona tied with the dodgers entering today's, play LA is off so Zona could go back up, a half game if they win in Colorado tonight the Rockies lead the pirates to nothing in the fifth Rockies two games out of. The. NFL west spot. As far as I place goes actually further out of the wild card two and a half games behind Atlanta for that second wildcard spot, so Kyle Pitching tonight against Joe. Must grove Colorado scored two in the fifth. To take to nothing lead on the pirates bad news for Pittsburgh they've lost six of their last ten after winning eleven straight. Games good news one nine out of their. Last twelve at Coors field they'll have. Some time to come back tonight in Denver cubs lead the royals two to one that games in the seventh inning. At Kauffman stadium Cole hamels has only allowed one run. So far in his first two starts as. A member, of the cubs that run came in the second inning tonight the. Cubs got a couple back hobby or bias with this twenty, fifth home run of the year is the third fastest cubs second baseman twenty five home runs in a season only Ryan sambergen. Nineteen ninety and Rogers Hornsby in nineteen twenty nine. Got there more quickly than by, as this year as the cubs have a lead and then a place they have not played very often. Just their fourth trip ever to Kansas City Miami beat Saint Louis earlier, two to one certainly that helps things for the National League central. And wow Wildcard teams involved with the cardinals who take a step back after losing against the Marlins way in, Chen has been very. Good in south Florida this year just not so good outside of. It Chen, with a one ninety four ERA at home ten twenty. Seven on the road he beat Luke Weaver tonight havi garra got the save for the Marlins Starling Castro hit a home run in the Miami. Two one win over the cardinals and the American League Yankees trying on a different color of socks and this time it worked out a little bit better. For them they lead the Chicago White Sox seven to nothing in the eighth inning labor tore and Neil Walker of hit home. Runs for the Yankees tonight I start as a Yankee for Lance Lynn he worked seven scoreless innings at guaranteed rate field the Red Sox are off so the Yankees will make up a half game tonight they'll be nine games out so long as they hang on to beat the White Sox tonight. Yankees haven't won a road series in a. Month trying to get off to a good start in Chicago Cleveland blinked Minnesota ten nothing is Trevor Bauer struck out. Eleven to get his eleventh win powered. Our two hundred six strikeouts on the season that's, a career high for him and. It makes him one of. Just four Indians pitcher since nineteen twenty to. Get to. Two hundred or. More strikeouts in the first twenty four starts of a season Corey kluber did it last year Sam McDowell and Bob feller. The other two Bauer beat Kyle Gibson tonight yonder Alonso Brandon Guyer. Jason kipness Senate went Encarnacion all hit home runs for the Indians they have a ten game lead now in the AL central Seattle could. Use a win they were up three nothing at. Texas but now that game is tied three three. In the eighth Mike Xenos, said a home run for the Mariners in that game. Seattle normally scores a lot of runs in Arlington averaging nearly eight per game over there last. Six, contests at globe life park in Texas but just three tonight and trying to come back and recap Capture the lead. Against the Rangers tonight, Seattle two and, a half behind Oakland for the second, wildcard spot in the. American League the as two and a half behind the Yankees for. The first wildcard. Spot although Oakland off tonight so they'll, fold a three games behind the.
