"Opportunity. Anybody who does a lot of deals with the government, I'm always like, you're sketch. The Obama administration, this is all from Bloomberg business week. The Obama administration had announced the national strategy for trusted identities in cyberspace, a push to get private sector companies to develop ID verification technologies that troop swap team bought the IDE domain rebranded and one of $2.6 million grant from the commerce departments national Institutes of standards and technology. Anyway, there's more to this is a deeper story. I'm sure we'll be reading more of this. It's interesting. And. Yep. There you go. There you have it. What do we think about the end of the line for Google Cloud's G Suite free edition? If you have a G Suite free edition, you're going to have to upgrade to a page version, starting July 1st. They should have long ago. And this is for me because I pay already. You hear me complain about it all the time. The G Suite is now built for big companies. It should have a light individual or a family edition of it that says, all you want is your own domain, some email, here's the deal. And that's what it was used for, right? That's why I'm there. You have a custom team. The hell out of it on the high end. They've taken away features because it's so complicated. We can't get as Google users. And they shouldn't treat the individual who was grandfathered now, like a company. It's only 6 bucks a month. It's not that bad. They stopped offering the free tier ten years ago. 2012. Your grandfather. But you still had it. So there's people who have been all along. They got a domain name it's just them. They get my wife. They get a smaller version of G Suite. So she's going to have to start paying in July. Yeah. Yeah. How did she feel about that? She doesn't know yet. She'll show you. What did you get me into? It might be and Jake. Yeah. No, that was a good idea. I'm kind of glad I didn't do that. But. You run servers and things. Yeah, so we pay this 6 bucks to proceed. And everybody's got an twit TV through that. That's the email. Not the website, but the email. And we use G Suite, I'm sorry. Workspace. I'm using it right now as a Google sheet that we use to share the stories with all the hosts and follow up stories. So Simon sent me a thing from GitHub, a G Suite migration plan that goes into some detail about this. Wine.

Why Is the Left Withholding Monoclonal Antibodies?

"I want to talk about the Biden administration and its policy for handing out these monoclonal antibodies as a treatment for COVID. Now this is a treatment that is administered after you get COVID. It's a way of minimizing the symptoms and helping you to get better. And it's a completely legitimate treatment. It's been approved by the FDA, authorized by the FDA. It's even recommended by the national Institutes for health. Now very interestingly, the Biden administration doesn't seem to want to dispense these remedies in a very widespread way. They've been actually withholding monoclonal antibodies from Florida. This appears to be a way of trying to politically go after governor Ron DeSantis, Ron DeSantis is not merely somebody who has been in a sense going in the opposite direction from the Biden administration's approach, but he's also a serious contender for 2024, and so it looks like this is a politically motivated let's not help him out in any way because we don't want his state to look good. Interestingly in New York State, New York has issued a kind of guidance memorandum, where they basically say that these monoclonal antibodies should be handed out in part on the basis of race. Now, this is where we want to hit the pause button and take a closer look because the law says that you've got to offer these treatments based upon need based upon medical conditions. So what New York is doing is they're pretending like your skin color is a kind of medical condition.

"Into a sort of standardized approach where everything didn't have to be a one off. I'm really excited about that. So what began as three projects is six. And it's about to be seven next year with a heart failure project and all of kinda know each other and if it weren't for that background when cova came along it would have been a lot harder to build the partnership called active which has been my passion for the last twenty months accelerating covert nineteen therapeutic interventions and vaccines. We just had our leadership team meeting this morning. It was amazing. what's been accomplished. That's pretty much hundred people who dropped everything just to work on this about half from industry in half from government and academia and that's how we got vaccine master protocols designed so we all agreed about what the end points had to be. You wondered why are thirty thousand participants in each of these trials as actives. Group mapping out what the power needed to beat for this to be bidding. Same with their buicks We have run at least twenty therapeutic agents Through trials that active supported in record time. That's how we got monoclonal. Antibodies that we know work. That's been that would not have been possible. If i didn't already have a sense of how to work with the private sector that came out of a hip amp took two years to get started active two weeks. We just kept hundred people over. Yeah get the lawyers out of the room. And now you're gonna get yourself in trouble so i i do hope one day. The story of this incredible vaccine development of vaccine protocols and trials and all this kind of details the messy beautiful details of his science and engineering and and the lead to the manufacturing the deployment and the scientific test. It's such a nice dance between engineering and the space of manufactured vaccines you know you start before the study is complete you start making vaccines just in case the if the study's to be positive then you can start.

"We trust but science says which is vaccines are going to save your life. We're going to trust what's on the internet. That says ivermectin hydroxy. Chloroquine really do work. Even though the scientific community says probably not so let me push back on that a little bit. So he doesn't he doesn't say that's not listen to science he doesn't say the vaccine don't get vaccinated. He says it's okay to ask questions. I'm okay with that. How risky is the vaccine for certain populations. What a benefits and risks. There's other friends of joe and Friends of mine. Like sam harris. Who says if you look at the data is obvious that the benefits outweigh the risks. And would joe says is yes but let's still openly talk about risks and you often bring this up. Anecdotal evidence of people who've had highly negative effects from vaccines. Science is not done with anecdotal evidence. And so you could infer a lot of stuff from the way. He expresses it but he also communicates a lot interesting questions And does something. Maybe you can comment on this. You know there's certain groups that are healthy. they have. they're younger they have. They exercise a lot. They get the all nutrition all those kinds of things. He shows skepticism on whether it's so obvious that they should get vaccinated and the same as he makes this. He kind of presents the same kind of skepticism for kids for young kids. So with empathy and You know listening. My russian in eloquent description would hopefully is what what is your response to that. Why should certain categories of health being young people still vaccinated. Do you think well. I just to say it's great for joe to be a skeptic to ask questions. We should all be doing that. But then the next step is to go and see what the data says and see if they're actually answers to those questions so coming to healthy people. I've done a bunch of podcast. Besides this one one. I think i remember most was a podcast with a world wide wrestling superstar fairness. He's about six foot six and just absolutely solid muscle and he got cove it and he almost died and recovering from that. He said. i've gotta let my supporters know 'cause you can imagine world wide wrestling fans are probably not big embraces of the need for vaccines and he want he just turned himself into a spokesperson for the fact that this virus doesn't care how healthy you are how much you exercise. What a great specimen you are. It wiped him out. And we see that you know the average person in the icu right now. Covert nineteen is under age fifty. I think there's a lot of people still thinking. Oh it's just those old people in the nursing homes. That's not going to be about me. They're wrong in their plenty of instances of people who were totally healthy with no underlying diseases taking good care of themselves not obese exercising. Who have died from this disease. Seven hundred children have died from this disease. Yes. some of them had underlying factors like obesity. But a lot of them did not so. It's fair to say younger. People are less susceptible to serious illness..

"The things that ought to be watched. You may not know that if somebody is ordering a particular allah go nuclear tied from one of the main suppliers and it happens to match smallpox. They're going to get caught. So there is effort underway to try to track any nefarious actions. That might be going on in the united states or internationally zor international collaboration of trying to track the stuff. There is some. I wish it were stronger. This is a general issue lacks in terms of. Do we have a mechanism particularly when it comes to ethical issues to be able to decide. What's allowable what's not an enforce it. I mean look where we are with. Germline a genome editing for humans. For instance. there is no enforcement mechanism. there's just bully. Pulpits and governments said get to decide for themselves. You talked about evil. What about incompetence. Does that worry you. I was born in the soviet union My dad a physicist working noble that comes to mind. that wasn't evil i was. I don't know what word you wanna put it. Maybe incompetence too harsh. Maybe this inherent incompetence of bureaucracy. I don't know before whatever reason there was an accident. Does that worry you. of course it does. And we know that sars for instance. I did manage to leak out of a lab in china two or three times. And at least in some instances people died fortunately quickly contained all one can do in that circumstance because you need to study the virus and understand it an order to keep it from causing broader pandemic but you need to insist upon the kind of biosecurity. The esl two three and four framework under which those experiments have to be done and certainly at nih were extremely rigorous about that. But you can't count on every human being to always do exactly what they're supposed to so there's a risk there which is another reason. Why if we're contemplating supporting research on pathogens that might be the next pandemic you have to factor that.

"The discussion even to response to ram paul. I know we're not talking about specific senators but just that particular case. I'm saying stuff here odors and opportunity you talk about given the current threshold. This is not gain of function but maybe we need to reconsider the threshold and have an actor as an opportunity for discussion about the ethics of gain of function. You said that there was three studies. That pass that threshold with influenza. That's a fascinating human questions scientific question about ethics. Because you're playing like you said there's There's pros and cons. You taking risks here to prevent horribly destructive viruses in the future but you also a risking creating such viruses in the future when nuclear weapons and nuclear energy. You are Nuclear energy promises a lot of positive effects. And yet you taking risks here with Mutually assured destruction. I have nations possessing nuclear weapons on my. You're on a lot of we're going there or not but a lot of people argue that that's the reason we've nuclear weapons is the reason we've prevented world wars. And yet they also have the risk of starting world wars and this is what we have to be honest about with With the benefits the risks science that you have to make that calculation. What are the pros. And what are the cons totally with you. But i want to reassure you lex that this is not an issue that has been ignored. Yes that this issue about the kind of gain of function that might result in serious. Human pathogen has been front and center In many deliberations for a decade or more involved a lot of my time along the way by the way and has been discussed publicly on multiple occasions including two major meetings of the national academy of sciences. Getting input from everybody and ultimately arriving at our current framework. Now we actually back in january of twenty twenty just before covert nineteen changed. Everything had planned and even charged that same national science advisory by board on biosecurity to reconvene and look at the current framework. And say do we have it right. Let's look at the experience over those three years and say is the threshold too easy too hard. Do we need to reconsider. Let's look at the experience. Cova came along. The members of the board said please. We're all infectious disease experts. We don't have time for this right now. I think the time is right to do this..

"E p p p only applies to agents that are known human pathogens of potential of pandemic potential. These were all bat. Viruses derived in the wild not shown to be infectious to humans. Just looking at what happened if you took four different bat viruses and you tried moving the spike protein gene from one into one of the others To see whether it would bind better to the ace two receptor that doesn't get across that threshold and let me also say for those who are trying to connect the dots here. Which is the most troubling part of this and say well. This is how sars covy to got started that is absolutely demonstrably false These bat viruses that were being studied had only about eighty percents similarity in their genomes to sars covy to they were like decades away and evolutionary terms and it is really responsible for people to claim otherwise speaking of people who claim otherwise rand. Paul what do you make of the battle of words between senator rand paul and dr anthony chee over this particular point. I want to talk about specific members. Of but i will say it's really unfortunate that tony falcon who is the epitome of a dedicated. Public servant has now somehow been targeted For political reasons as somebody that certain figures are trying to discredit perhaps to try to distract from their own failings. This never should have happened. Here is a person who's dedicated his whole life to trying to prevent illnesses from infectious diseases including hiv and the nineteen eighties and nineties. And now probably the most knowledgeable infectious disease physician in the world and also a really good communicator. Is out there telling the truth about where we are with sars covy to to certain political figures who don't wanna hear it and who are therefore determined to discredit him and that is disgraceful so with politicians are they often play games with black and white. They tried to use The grey areas of science and then paint their own picture. But i have a question about the grey areas. The science so like you mentioned gain of function is a term. That's very specific scientific meeting but it also has a more general term and it's very possible to argue that the Not argue not the way politicians argue but just as human beings and scientists that there was a gain of function achieved at the wuhan institute of allergy but it didn't cross a threshold. I mean there's a it's it's a but it could have to so so. Here's the thing when you do. These kinds of experiments unexpected results may be achieved and that's the gray area of science. You're you're taking risks with such experiments. And i am very uncomfortable that we can't discuss the uncertainty in the gray area of this. Oh i'm comfortable discussing the gray area. What i'm uncomfortable with is people deciding to define for themselves what that threshold is. Based on sort of some political argument the threshold was very explicitly laid out. Everybody agreed to that In the basis of this three years of deliberation. So that's what it is if that threshold needs to be reconsidered. Let's reconsider it but let's not try to take an experiment that's already been done and decide that the threshold isn't what it was because that that really is doing a disservice to the whole process..

"Breaking of the weekend was a series of documents that were obtained through a freedom of information request. It was obtained through an effort to try and get to the bottom of the medical experiments or the medical experiments that Fauci has been conducting over the last couple of years. These documents came out and we learned that Fauci, personally directed the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a division of the National Institute of health to repeatedly fund research where he placed sedated beagles heads while they were still alive in mesh cages and allowed starved sandflies to feast on them and eat them alive. Beagles they then repeated the test outdoors with the beagles placed in cages in the desert overnight for 9 consecutive nights. In an area of Tunisia where sand flies were abundant. Now before we go any further, this is something like a James Bond villain would do. This is something that in a halfway through the movie of goldfinger where they kind of come in and they zoom in kind of panoramic. All of a sudden the Bond villain is like torturing beagles in Tunisia. Like that's not that's not normal, okay? For the public health official. The guy that's supposed to be in charge of epidemiological spread, like, okay, we're gonna go torture dogs and Tunisia. They repeated the test outdoors with the beagles placed in cages. In the desert overnight for 9 consecutive nights the experiment was just one of countless tests. Done on animals with your taxpayer dollars, but when you go to work and you work hard and you go write that check to the Internal Revenue Service, you are funding dog torture.

Biden Admin Withholds Millions of Aid for Hospitals Treating COVID Patients

"Hospitals bulge again with Covid 19 patients. A wide swath of the health care industry is exasperated that federal health officials have not made available anymore of the aid. Since Joe Biden took office Now $44 billion from a provider relief fund, created last year remains unspent, along with 8.5 billion Congress allotted in March for the medical care in rural areas. Right. That's over $50 billion With the coronavirus Delta variant fueling 1/4 pandemic surge, they write healthcare institutions, lobbyists and lawmakers. Have ratcheted up complaints to senior Biden administration health officials, imploring them to decide how the money will be divided and when it will be distributed. Is this not amazing? All the people going on and on about how the federal government knows everything. Fauci, the CDC, the FDA, National Institutes of Health, HHS, They're sitting on the money. And other than Amy Goldstein. I haven't seen this anywhere else. There's just no good reason for the administration to be sitting on these funds, and Mark Parkinson president, chief executive The American Healthcare Association, a trade group that represents nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Many running short on money, he said, because the virus is heavy concentration of long term care centers early in the pandemic, a stop causing potential patients and residents to stay away. Parkinson said he has had four conversations for Since February. The agency and the Department of Health and Human Services. It is in charge of the money. And one last month with senior aides to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. Each conversation we came up with the feeling would be that month, Parkinson said. And we've been wrong.

"Fauci Sunday called for mandatory covid vaccinations for school kids and mandatory mask use, Dr Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, says, because Children under 12 aren't yet vaccine approved. Their risk of infection has risen drastically on ABC s this week, he says. That's where family and neighbors who get the shots can help. We can protect them by surrounding them with a community. People who are vaccinated. That's how you protect Children, he says. Mask wearing in schools can also help because even adults who are vaccinated can still spread the virus to Children. That's

Diabetes Has Surged Among US Youth, Decades-Long Study Finds

"On the rise among the nation's youth. A new study shows that Type one and type two diabetes have surged in those under 20. NPR's Ping Hong reports Over the past two decades, more and more young people have been diagnosed with diabetes. It's a chronic condition where the amount of sugar in the bloodstream is too high and can lead to serious health problems like heart and kidney disease. In the Under 20 age group, Type one diabetes has increased by 45% since 2000 and one Take two diabetes, which is linked to obesity has nearly doubled in that time, with the greatest increases seen in black and Hispanic youth. The reasons for the rise and diabetes are not totally clear, but could be related to rising rates of childhood obesity and exposure to environmental chemicals. The results published in JAMA, come from a long term research study funded by the CDC and the National Institutes of

NIH Director: Unvaccinated Are 'Sitting Ducks' for COVID-19 and Delta Variant

"Sitting ducks. That's how national institutes of health director francis collins is characterizing unvaccinated people in the us as the delta variant continues to spread here. Is this weekend on fox news. So i will be surprised if we don't cross two hundred thousand cases a day in the next couple of weeks. And that's heartbreaking considering. We never thought we would be back in that space again. But here we are with delta variant. Which is so contagious. And this heartbreaking situation where ninety million people are still unvaccinated who are sitting ducks for this virus. Sitting ducks presumably. Meaning they will catch it. We know the delta variant is more infectious but is it also lethal and if it is for whom dr david doughty is an epidemiologist and infectious disease specialist at johns hopkins university. Dr doughty cds reporting record hospitalizations among eighteen to twenty nine year olds thirty to thirty nine year. Old forty to forty nine year olds. Basically all adults under fifty now while deaths among young adults from kovic are still uncommon. Are death rates going up in these groups. So yes robin deaths are going up. They're going up more slowly than hospitalizations. But we know that that's usually lag hospitalizations by two to three weeks for some so. We're expecting to see deaths climbing in the next two to three weeks as well and by saturday the number of pediatric hospitalizations also hit record highs. This is according to the department of health and human services it spike to over nineteen hundred. What are we seeing in that group when it comes to mortality rates. I think what we're seeing across. The board is that among those who are unvaccinated. The risk of getting sick and dying is as high as it's ever been right and so in groups like kids where vaccines are not yet licensed. We're seeing as you've said the highest rates of hospitalizations and deaths that we've seen since the beginning of the pandemic

"Of the National Institute of health told the Associated Press while the drug show promise he won't go so far as to call it a cure there are two drugs they are natural products are anti bodies that have been produced artificially in significant amounts and used in a way that they passively transferred by an intravenous route to patients and their part of the clinical trial a randomized controlled trial involving four therapeutics and the data from that trial is intermittently examined by an independent board of unbiased observer is to determine if the trial should go on depending upon what the data showed and on Friday the August the ninth the data in safety monitoring board looked at the data and determined that two of the candidates among the four were highly significant in their ability to decrease the mortality of Ebola virus disease compared to the control arm as well as to the other anybody so the bottom line is we now have two interventions that can decrease the mortality of Ebola virus disease substantially compared to a control no cure in my mind can be interpreted by people that everyone who get's an intervention no longer has the disease Ebola is a bit more complicated than that some people recover from the ball without any intervention at all but one can say with your accuracy is that these interventions signet Lee decrease the percentage of mortality enable a virus disease some people might call that a cue or I tend to stay away from the word Cuba and merely say it's a major advance in the development in the of treatment of Ebola during the West Africa Ebola epidemic several years ago study shows today and to that another antibody mixture name ZMapp worked but not clear proof well on a lighter note this morning police in Virginia say more than fifty television sets have been mysteriously placed on front porches in a neighborhood outside Richmond Henrico county police lieutenant Matt packets that residents found older model TV's outside their front door Saturday morning.
