"June grosso from Bloomberg radio. The National Football League is being investigated by California and New York over allegations that it fostered discrimination and harassment in the workplace. The attorneys general of New York and California announced the joint probe of the NFL's workplace practices and culture and have issued subpoenas to the league to gather information and determine whether it flooded federal and state pay equity laws and anti discrimination laws. Here's California AG, rob banta. Employees passed in present. Continue to make allegations of discrimination. And from where we stand, they have not been addressed. And so we're going to dig in and see. We're going to heavily scrutinize the NFL's practices, procedures, and work environment. We're going to look closely in turn all the stones. And see what's there. An NFL spokesperson said the organization takes the issue seriously and will fully cooperate with the attorney's general. But that the allegations are, quote, entirely inconsistent with the NFL's value and practices. My guest is Martin E Dell, co chair of the sports law practice at goulston stores. The NFL obviously has faced investigations before, but this investigation appears to be the first involving workplace violations in the league's corporate office, explain why the attorneys general decided to take this step. As best as I divine and try to put myself in the heads of both letitia James and her California counterpart, we have a group of employees more than 30 who complained last year about a hostile work environment in the NFL. You have the NFL also employing over 37% of its employees are women. 30% of people of color. With those kind of numbers, it incumbent distinct to me on the attorneys general of state in which the NFL has offices when we California in New York because very seriously complaints about a hostile work environment, Harrison, male cultures of dominance, frankly, not to exist anymore, but unfortunately still do. So I think they're looking into what's going on there based on the number of allegations and it's because it's more than one we've had as I mentioned 30 women last year filed allegations of a hostile work environment and discrimination against the NFL this year you have a couple of other people filing women in particular, but also people of color filing complaints to that hostile work environment to discrimination against the NFL. And I think the attorney general New York and California are taking very seriously their obligations to investigate. Will the attorneys general be able to get further than the women can in their lawsuits. With discovery. Well, what we do know, I think the answer is they can get to the root if there is a problem they can get to the root of it more quickly than in a civil lawsuit because this would be either a civil or a criminal investigation and the state has enormous powers in terms of subpoenas and investigative powers that would simply drag on for a much longer time in any civil law duty. There have been lawsuits filed by former employees, congressional hearings last year into the workplace practices of the Washington commanders, and that 2022 New York Times article reporting on allegations of gender discrimination by more than 30 former female NFL employees. So this is nothing new, the NFL has been on notice about this for a long time. Unfortunately, this is the most recent spat of complaints. Are coming on the heels of other complaints about a hostile work environment and discrimination. You know, we've seen them in the media with ray rice and his then partner, subsequently, his wife, who he beat up in an elevator in New Jersey, and you may recall that the commissioner initially handed him a slap on the wrist. And then the outcry was sufficiently large to the commissioner looked back into it again and handed out a much more severe punishment. But that wasn't the only incident. We have Flores who filed his lawsuit. He was a coach with Miami, who didn't get head coaching positions, although he was eminently qualified, and he filed the discrimination lawsuit in February of 2022. And that's why being its way through the southern district court and their in discovery at this point in that lawsuit. And more recently, as you point out, we have danced Snyder and the commanders, where it was reputed. He fostered a hostile work environment, did things that people shouldn't be doing at ever, but certainly not in a heightened sensitivity environment that we currently exist. And there were reports about that went to Congress. Ultimately, the NFL I think it's fair to say for Snyder out of his ownership position. Although he wasn't hurting for it because he sold the ownership position for an enormous sum. But yes, there are more and more incidents. It's coming out in sports and particularly in the NFL, although the other leagues are not immune from claims of hostile work environment and discrimination. I mean, how do you prove a hostile work environment? Well, it has to be more than he said. So you need to have a series of comments or actions that would make an employee feel threatened his or her client environment. And you have to have, in this case, it would be the NFL, not taking suspicion, at least serious the allegations or even if they did the allegations sufficiently seriously. Not then implementing a corrective plan for it. All of which are very difficult to do, but nonetheless, are required by the law. Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner, said that workplace misconduct is thoroughly investigated the NFL and retaliation against complainants is prohibited. The league has put more effort into diversifying its hiring and has mandatory anti racism training and an anonymous hotline called protect the shield for employees concerns. Is there a way to completely rid the NFL of any of these claims? Well, the answer is you can never eliminate entirely a hostile work environment because there are always bad actors out there. People who may feel entitled and just disregard what's there. But the NFL is starting down the right F this may be late in the game, although it's better than not having done anything. But taking allegations seriously, investigating them, thoroughly, because they have a media presence, they're wrong to start with if they're accurate. And also they have a negative media impact. And no matter what anybody says, the NFL is not simply a male domain. There are a lot of women who watch NFL games and you don't want to alienate your audiences. And the more they come down, the greater the risk of alienating your audiences, alienating your sponsors and alienating your media hosts, which will be down to negative impacts on profitability. What other sports have similar complaints lodged against them? I don't think any other sport which I'm aware currently has quite the same problem that the NFL has because you don't have quite the same number of people complaining. Are there people complaining? Sure. We had the incident with the Phoenix Suns in the fall this year with Robert sarver, who a number of employees complained had created a hostile working environment discriminated against women. And unlike the NFL, the NBA investigated the claims. It was very public and its report in making its report public and in taking action to try to strip Sauber of his ownership interest and ultimately the Phoenix Suns were sold. That didn't take a year or two years. It took a couple of months, which is why I think the NFL seems to be new to what it's doing here and is perhaps a lot slower than an NBA. And how do NDAs play into this? Are some of the women prohibited from making public statements because of the NDAs? I'm not aware of that. It's possible. But it's hard to believe that in this day and age, especially in light of what's occurred in the media with our former president that people take NDAs that seriously entities will try to enforce NBA's that would preclude a claim. Tell me up next, we're going to be talking about wrestling, pushing states to legalize gambling on its matches. This is Bloomberg. Bloomberg's this is Virginia lottery recording session. "Kelvin beach and his traveled the country as an offensive tackle, playing for the Steelers Jaguars jets and Cardinals since 2012. In March, he made a trip to Zambia after constructing two clean water wells and financing a third. We actually wanted to actually see the work. We wanted to see how it impacted people and how water impacted their lives, how access to what impacted their lives and those who did not have access to how it affected their lives. Beacham was the Cardinals, Walter Payton man of the year in 2021 for his humanitarian work. He's associated with food banks in his hometown and every city where he's played. Beecham also was a champion of local education equity, but his association with world vision has led him to international causes. I met world vision this has to be 2015 with 2014, 2015, and I got introduced to him through the NFL PA as young man Dexter Santos. And he knew what I was doing quite a bit here domestically and I told him to start thinking about things on a global scale. Beacham says he doesn't do it for acknowledgment. I think I'm going to do the work regardless. It's not about whether I can support for the National Football League or the NFL V8 or fans. I would do this work because I think that this is important. This is the legacy that I want to leave for my children. This is the work that I want my children to grow in. Does beach and plan to go back to Zambia? So the question is, do we take Ikea to make due to retirement trip? So we love to see anytime we make an investment so you want to see what does it look like over time. Given his track record of humanitarian effort, there are more international trips in beecham's future. I'm Dave ferry.

"The Broncos trudged their way to a 16 9 win over the Texans Russell Wilson overcame a slow start and a cascade of booze in his Denver debut He completed just 6 of his first 20 passes but he was four for four on Denver's go ahead scoring drive Capped by a 22 yard TD pass to Eric saubert I've won a lot of football games in my career in the National Football League and not every one of them is easy But all that matters at the end of the year is there's a W at the end of that column Wilson finished 14 of 31 for 219 yards The Broncos never allowed a TD forcing the Texans to settle for three field goals I'm Dave ferry

Aaron Rodgers Named NFL's Top QB in ESPN Poll
"So ESPN doing their annual poll of over 50 executives players, coaches, alike, they release their top ten players at every single position in the National Football League. They've been doing this for years. And yesterday, while we were on the air, they put out their top ten quarterbacks. When I say they, again, it's an ESPN production, but it's not really folks from ESPN. It's people within the business. The peers of these players themselves, the players, the coaches, the executives. They come out with the top ten quarterbacks fellas. It's Stokely and Zack filling in from Mike Evans this morning. We're hanging out with our guys stink. So I'm doing I'm doing a Green Bay game. This is two years ago. And I'm talking to the defensive coordinator of the team that they're facing. And he's like, listen, if Aaron Rodgers gets it to second down in 5 minus, like second down 5, 6, 9, four, whatever. He goes, I would rather just give him an automatic first. I wish I had something to say, you can have the first down. Let's start over. It's like a take your base signal. And baseball. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. He goes, I would just like to start over because if he gets you in a second down in 5, there is nothing you can do. He's just going to bleed you. So you might see something where these guys got to just start getting going, get a feel for each other playing at another temple because you don't practice this fast. That's a gang speed. Justin Fields has checked in at quarterback in the shotgun takes the snap. Fields looks right side and the right side that's caught inside the five yard line down to about four. It was Mark is good with that made the catch channel in Ramsey was there on the coverage and threw him down. The ball came out. Ramsey picked it up with Goodwin was down. They're going to mark him and run around the four yard line. That will be a game of nine. Yards. I like the justice field in red zone because now he becomes a run threat. And we've seen this with Lamar Jackson, the other other running quarterbacks in the National Football League, where now they can run powers with the quarterback, And that's something that you normally don't see in the National Football League, giving progress to the three of his third and one. Montgomery is in the ball game as the running back. Colton goes under center. Don't take the snap handoff. Montgomery starts left, He's hit in the backfield and wrapped up There's flags on the field. They may have blown this dead. Brad Allen is the referee. Start offense, five yard penalty Still throw down Go against cold commit the second year tight end out of Notre Dame. And Rob that play got blown up. But those are the kind of things you can't have happened. Third one. Now it gets moved back to third and six. You can't have the false versus self inflicted wounds pre snap. Is something that the coach will talking about. Once he gets to the sideline, bring it back to the eight yard line, now third down and six for the Bears opening driving the ball game. Dalton will go under center Bears are empty and got three receivers left to the right. And now we've got whistles again on a time out. It'll be 30 seconds, so the Bears will take time out. Ryan Racki Rod Woodson here when they Granger broadcast booth itself, I stadium count on Granger to help keep your team running the supplies and solutions for every industry. When you call click Granger. Com, or just stopped by Granger for the ones who get it done. Bill. That was an interesting formation as they lined up with under center and five receivers out there. What do you look for here on third down and six yards to go, Rod for? Obviously they're going to try to spread them out. Don't look. Look for the back side front side of the end zone. They got to protect that, but a lot of times when you start protecting the front line of the end zone, they give up the back of the end zone. So I'm gonna look, I think Andy dogs and looked short too deep in the middle of the field and try if they play up to close the back side of the end zone third down and six they need to for a first down. Three receivers split left to the right. Dalton drops back into the shotgun along the near side, right hash lifts his right leg. Dalton waiting gets the snap back to throw looking to his left Rose. Left side pass is tipped in the air and nearly intercepted. The past was better up. It was free in the end zone. I think they are saying it was intercepted. Kenny Young is the man that tipped it up, and it was picked up by the Rams defense in the back of the end zone. Young got his hand up there, and as the ball was falling down on the turf, David Long went into a dive and picked it off. The Rams will have it at the 20 and we said all defense tips on overthrows. You've got to get those. But Andy don't cannot stare down his receivers, 11 minutes and 54 seconds to go here in the first quarter. Arizona Cardinals' Kliff Kingsbury on Hot Seat?
"All right my friend. We've covered three quarters of the national football league and we save kind of the best for last as far some of the most competitive divisions in the national football league so we may as well starting out in my neck of the woods relatively speaking with the arizona cardinals who find themselves pain as six to one hundred dollars to win the nfc west. This season their win. Total sits at eight and a half. You do have to lay a buck in a quarter if you wanna go. Under that total third season in the valley of the sun for cliff kingsbury last two years of tailed off in the latter. Half of the schedule. When you look at how this team performed. They lost six out of their final nine games. Second year in a row as we said they fallen apart down the stretch. Arizona elite league and penalties and you begin to worry about the decision making enga- management that oak liffey boy has shown since taking over last winning season for this franchise came back in two thousand fifteen where they were pummeled by the panthers in the playoffs but point differential last year plus forty three best amongst teams. That didn't finish with a winning record. Missed out a postseason berth. By virtue of a tiebreaker is the chicago bears edge. Them out schedule though starts all away from home where they'll play three or four on the highway to kick things off when you look at the arizona cardinals pain. We know it's all about the offense but they've also made some pretty good editions at least in my opinion on the defensive side as well arizona's tough for me to gauge. And it doesn't help that. They're playing in this division. Which is probably the most competitive and i don't really know i'm sold on kingsbury yet. And we've mentioned this number a couple times over the years but i think it's really interesting because it's mind blowing. You can get an nfl job with a resume like kingsbury. "And so I agree. That's why he's more still run stuffer. First he needs to develop the pass rushing skills the way that Akeem has. Before he does take that next step. I'm just suggesting to you. It may take a year or two. But I'm with you. I think it's a fair. I think it's a fair presentation that you make. Want to. You know my my first reaction because I've yet to see the list I'm finding out is good listeners. And so what's interesting is I was with you and I was convinced in the scheme Hicks placed at 14 selection. Terri Cohen was at 15. And I in my head as we were trying to have the conversation about Hicks. I kept thinking to myself. You know what? Eddie Goldman's damn important for this team and moving forward this season like Abdel Mention, run stuffer up the middle. You expect them to kind of take that next step. He's a guy who seems like he's a star in the making on the defensive line. I would have guessed that they're coming into this. You would have had Eddie Goldman somewhere around six or seven. That's what I would have thought I would have thought. Interesting, you know, like how Adam's laying it out there on the defensive line. If you have a legit Guy in the middle, who is creating chaos. You pair him with Akeem Hicks. They're splitting the reps. They're making sure that they're both fresh that allows the guys off the edge to attack the quarterback even more and then also you stop the run. I think many times last season. We saw the Bears defense have an inability to get off the field. And I think that's important, too. I know the offensive side things also playing to that because We've seen multiple times throughout the Mitchells Robiskie experiment that the offense was not consistent enough in just time of possession, getting first downs, allowing the defense to rest up to come back out and to be as efficient as they are. So I thought I thought before you revealed Goldman at 13. I was pretty positive that Goldman would be in the class of Jill and Johnson, Justin Fields. Khalil Mack Rock Juan Smith some of the most important players on this team, So I am a little shocked that he's at 13 because I think he's damn important. I did too. And I think both of you make very good points. Again. I think that part of my yes to keep your hands off my damn list. I think part of my decision making was also like there are still some questions about you know where Eddie is with regard to his desire to come back. And continue his ascending career in the National Football League. So I think that you know, some of that in decision probably weighed on me a little bit. Um Look, these are tough decisions as well. Yeah, I think I would lump that that thought. To support what what I'm thinking because if a Goldman a is is not what he was when he last played for the Bears, I think that's a problem and then to like like, Abdel said. You're not going to fall someone for the decisions that they made to not participate last year if there's something going forward because he hasn't been around there are there are reports that he's in town. But he hasn't been at the Oh, Tia's like that could also disrupt what you're trying to build going forward, and I'm not being critical of his decision to opt out last year, that is, that's his his choice, and I defend his right to do. What was best for him. I also looked at this situation is this is going to be a rotation. There will be a rotation of guys that play that spot. They'll move guys in, they'll move guys out. I think the bears, I think Ryan pace one of the things he's done A really nice job of Is finding depth on the interior of his defensive line. So 3123323776 if you guys have thoughts as well, I have Eddie Goldman as my 13th most important player for the upcoming 2000 and 21 NFL season for your Chicago Bears again understand the criteria that we're using. This isn't just ranking a power ranking of the players one through 15. But Eddie comes in at number 13 for me believe there are other lists that are out there that aren't my lists lists that have been compiled by other ESPN folks nationally. Isn't that correct guys? About different positions in the NFL and on the defensive side of the ball, cornerbacks linebackers and I believe edge rushers and we'll get to that conversation when we return. You were looking waddling.

NFL Bans Dwight Schar From Future Ownership Interest in Any NFL Team
"Minority owners coming in at some point, but he is the he is the sole owner after buying back the minority shares from Dwight Schar, Fred Smith and Bob Rothman. And what was a very contentious uh, I think And this is that I don't know if it's been publicly put out like this, But I think it was a takeover attempt by the minority owners who were looking for a greater evaluation on on their sale of their minority piece, and all of this negativity started to pop up. In the Washington Post started to pop up and and social media. These accusations were thrown out there, all of which, incidentally, Dan Snyder has claimed responsibility for even though he was not directly implicated in any of those things. Um, And the news today is twofold. One that Daniel Snyder is it was fined $10 million. At least the Washington football team was fined $10 million. The clarity on that is that $10 million will go to charities, which which Tania, his wife and Dan will choose. So it's a $10 million fine, but it'll all go to an important cause. The other thing. That I think is not insignificant in this is that Dang Dwight Schar, who was one of those minority owners, and a lot of people believed was involved in the smear campaign on on Daniel Snyder has been banned for life. From the NFL. So, uh, while we while we want to vilified, um some of the things that went on inside the Washington organization, the the campaign It was put out to embarrass and try to force. Mr Snyder to Snell also came to light and again, I'll read it, I'll say it again. Dwight Schar, who was a minority owner, has been banned for life from the National Football League. Take that of what you will. Um, but that's not the story. So a lot of people there's some misconceptions out
Urban Meyer Really Believes Tim Tebow Can Help Jacksonville
"Believes Tim Tebow could make the team Give me one thought on Tim Tebow. Why? I mean, I The only reason that this is happening is because every Mars the head coach of the Jacks with Jaguars in urban Meyer was not to the National Football League. Tim Tebow would not be entertaining anything like this, so if he wants have a chance to play a new position. Play for a man that if he could adopt him, Tebow, he would when it comes to urban Meyer, but that's my one thought. Why Tim Tebow? Why?
Voice of the Bison Jeff Culhane Speaks Highly of Trey Lance

We're in this Derby, so so tell everybody about Trey Lance. Well, I'll tell you what. Trey Lance is one of the more impressive young men that I've had a chance to cover and get to know and be around. It comes from a great family. In fact it father Carlton spent a short period of time I believe in training camp with the San Francisco 40 Niners after his college career was over at Southwest Minnesota State and Marshall, Minnesota. So there's a little bit of A brief connect there even though Carlton did not spend a ton of time in the organization. But Trey, you know the conversation about training. Lance is going to come back to his Experience that's going to come back to playing at the FCS level Mark, but I think what what stands out to me is one He checks all the boxes physically, and I've had the The opportunity to be around college football programs like the Brassica in West Virginia and cover power five in the Big 12 in the Big 10 and as he seen a C C And Trey. Lance has all the physical tools you need to succeed in the National Football League. But more importantly, mark He's a great young man. He's

"Listeners it's mike schneider and i'm brett molina and welcome back to talking tech. As with many other events canceled due to the covid nineteen pandemic. there is no south by south west festival in austin texas. This year. That is true. But there's a virtual south by southwest going on online through saturday march twentieth. And i got a chance to participate. Let me tell you a little bit about it. I've been scheduled to moderate a panel last year gaming for good but the festival got cancelled entirely when we knew there was going to be a virtual festival this year the company that sponsored the panel skills decided to go ahead and do it so we recorded our discussion over zoom in late february and it was really enlightening and very made me very hopeful about things. Here there's a story. On tech usa today dot com. You can read that if you want. If you really wanna watch the panel and do all the other fun things at south by southwest. Has you can still buy a ticket to the festival. There's a link in my story for that too. But here's the basics. I learned from from the panel. The panelists we had three of them. there's a program called gamers outreach that provides video game carts that means it has like a secure tv and a game console on. It's it's either hook to wireless or however they do in the hospital in two hundred thirty children's hospitals around the us the founder zach. Weigel began the program when he was a high schooler halo tournament. The got cancelled He'd organiz the tournament but public safety official voice concerns about the high school cafeteria being used for a hobby. That was quote corrupting the minds of america's youth in quote. The guy said so to show the gamers from it meant well the next year weigel try it again and raise money for a local children's hospital with that resulting tournament part of that he learned. The hospitals often have trouble keeping kids occupied when they're recovering from treatment in their rooms so that led him to begin having online fundraising to get these. Some Capitol Hill Lawmakers Back Amazon Workers' Attempt To Unionize
"Nearly six thousand amazon employees who work at a warehouse in bessemer alabama are voting by mail on whether to unionize. If they do this will be the first union amazon facility in this country. Here's jennifer bates. Who works there. I keep butterflies and butterflies. Normally come to calm me but hey this is my stomach faithful. It seems like it's getting bigger and bigger full of butterflies. Because there's no break in. Think i don't know how kogo nerve wracking. The election ends later. This month and i should mention. That amazon is a financial supporter of npr. But we cover them like any other company. Some lawmakers support the union. Including senator marco marco rubio or republican and of course president biden also michigan congressman andy levin earlier this month. He and a group of democrats traveled to bessemer. Good morning congressman. Good morning noel. How are you good thanks. What did amazon employees. They're tell you about why they want to unionize. Well you know a union election so often are about basic dignity and that was really true here. I was shocked to learn what it's really like in there They work in a facility. That's like fourteen football fields and it can take ten minutes to walk to a break room. They've to half hour breaks in a ten hour shift so they might get effectively ten hours to eat lunch be by the time they walk there and back lot of them. Don't feel like they can go to the bathroom. Except on their break. And they're watched and quantified every second they're monitored visually a listening geo positioning and every second they're not on task is measured and if they have a certain number of minutes off task in a week they could be fired sometimes might not even be a person involved it was really kind of dehumanizing to me. Here's the argument. That amazon makes amazon. Says look our employees. Earn fifteen dollars an hour which is a good wage in a place like bessemer alabama. Some of them have health benefits. 401k's essentially they have got the benefits that a union would get them. They don't need a union. What do you make of that argument. I'd like to tell that argument to any national football league player and the actor and a movie any presenter on major television or radio networks all of whom have a union every single one. The idea that unions are only for people who are the most poorly paid. It's ridiculous the one person who is unionized. That every airline is the pilot so this argument is ridiculous. These workers deserve a seat at the table to discuss a safe workplace. During a pandemic they deserve a seat at the table to have a workplace. That's human and a real person can go to and great make fifteen dollars. An hour amazon should pay them a lot more the owner of the company. The main owner had his wealth increase. Seventy eight billion dollars during a pandemic and they're about pay jeff bezos in their bag bragging about paying people fifteen dollars an hour there. What's wrong with workers having their own organization just that they can have input in their in in their work lives. And that's all these people are seeking is a seat at the table during this trip to alabama that you went on your colleague congressman jamaal. Bowman said this doesn't stop with amazon. He mentioned lift. Uber tesla and walmart as well. What is the ultimate goal here. The goal is for workers to be able to form a union and bargain collectively. If they darn well please. Noel were down to six percent of private sector workers in this country needing union. We're gonna pass the proactive in the congress and the president is going help. Lead into new era when workers can have a say at the table. It's long pastime in this country. Michigan congressman andy levin. Thank you

Wide Receivers Were the Order of the Day on Franchise Tag Day
"Today was tagged a in the National Football League. We found out stars that we're getting the franchise tag, which may preclude them from Changing teams, and we found out some players that didn't get the franchise tag. Wide receivers were the order of the day and Alan Robinson gets the franchise tag. Chris Godwin gets the franchise tag will have more on Godwin and Brady coming up in a few minutes because this is a really big deal. But now who do you go after right? Who's the number one wide receiver you go after, and The guy who was going to be the beneficiary of this. And look, we've talked about who the three best wide receivers were gonna be in free agency this year, right? You and I did this about a month ago, and it was Robinson and it was Godwin and it was Kenny Golladay. You got it? And I know that that some people are going to be a little nervous. About Golladay. Oh, he was hurt. Last year, he was on pace for his best year in 2020 until he got hurt. I am so in on Kenny Golladay. Getting hurt last year doesn't concern me. You know anytime, you miss games, whether it's zits calf or it's a hamstring. It's not that big a deal right? And it's not something where wait. There's a big injury and maybe they're not going to be as fast as they once were. It's not that big a deal. I go after Kenny Golladay because he is everything. That a team's gonna want in a wide receiver. He can be the big target in the red zone. He's someone is going to stretch the defense. He is terrific. Listen. Matthew Stafford has been blessed with good wide receivers and great wide receivers his time in Detroit before he got traded to Los Angeles and Kenny Golladay. Is that good? I mean, he's going to get paid and He's the big winner today with the other guy's getting franchised and Kenny Golladay is going to get a lot of money and rightfully so, because he is extremely talented. I love the kid. Congratulations to him. Not only will he get out of Detroit and whatever the next phase of their world is, but he's going to get a mountain of cash to do it.

Maia Chaka becomes first Black woman official in NFL history
"What she thought when she got the call she said yes and she's our person of the week tonight. The history made the nfl announcing maya shock. Thirty eight years old from virginia beach has become the first black female official in the league's history. Maya has been a college football official for years and for the xfl and when not on the field. She's teaching at risk at home. In virginia beach. It gives those girls opportunity to see okay. I see my teacher work with some people that don't look like her. And maybe that gives me opportunity look work with some people that don't look like the also today. Hi david telling us about the moment. She got that call and so excited to be a member of the national. Football league officiating. Staff i'll always remember that day. My response was. I think i'm getting punked. She wasn't tonight. I'm gonna start with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Green Bay Packers and see Titan Buffalo Bills last night. Still, Baltimore Ravens. No coincidence from our insider there. General Fowler that all of those teams they're Super Bowl contenders and for a guy that's never even advanced to the A F C championship game in his 10 year career. I'll spend with Texans. You would think that's the last thing. He's got the defensive player of the Year awards. He's got the ticket to Canton. But he needs that ring like Keyshawn Has Keyshawn Gables You've been presented by progressive insurance, a reminder tune in tonight for college basketball. Florida State, Virginia covered 6 30 Eastern on ESPN Radio and the ESPN APP J. We are just now a shade under one month from selection Sunday, which will come on March. 14th who will be marching towards JJ Watt. It seems strange to say, but, hey, look, it's a Hall of Famer waiting out there for someone to grab him the most offensive dominant player off the decade that just passed Suitors. Mike Tannenbaum, ESPN NFL Front Office insider on our show earlier this morning, saying the rich are about to perhaps get richer, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and when you speak to people around the league, Tampa Bay literally overnight has become this incredible destination. You have Tom Brady a chance to win. Bruce Arians, who's gonna take care of veterans like a J. J. Watt. No tax practice on grass play on grass a chance to win a Super Bowl. So if you're close to the end, like JJ Watt, if you're Tampa Bay, and you can't afford someone like shack, Barrett and you wanna extend to keep Levante, David or Chris God, when J. J. Watts not nearly the same guy he once was. But 2025 steps again, He may help you get back to the Super Bowl. Look, he could help a lot of teams and he could help the town Bay Buccaneers, But I'm not getting really shocked Beard. I'm making that work, Uh, pass rushes in the National Football League or at a premium. In J. J. Watt. If this was JJ Watt of 10 years ago, right? We're having a different conversation. This is a 25 snap, J J. What? You don't get rid of a shack beard or you don't. Try and make you work with a shack beard because JJ Watt is out there When you think about building teams, you're going to start with a quarterback, obviously, but you need somebody to go get a quarterback on the other team, or you need somebody protected Quarterback. I left tackle or you need to shut down corner. Like a Jalen Ramsey. Those of the four premium positions pass rushers. You see what guys like Khalil Mack can go and get von Miller to a degree Aaron Donald J. J. Watt when he was young TJ. What now with the Pittsburgh students or DaMarcus Ware? Lawrence Taylor. Those type of guys disrupt the offenses and cause problems. So the Buccaneers if they could add a J. J. Watt, along with a shack bear That would be the dream scenario for them from my lifestyle perspective for JJ Watt. I mean, it makes the most sense for Tampa Bay. Right, coming from Ah, warm place like Houston to it to a degree warm in Florida. Just all that things for the body. I would say that, but I ultimately I would love to see him go back home. I know he played for Wisconsin. I know he's from Wisconsin to see Aaron Rodgers have a chance to team up with someone like that for his defense, Even if he is low voltage key. The fact that you can put him in the place that you need him to be there, I think go a long, long way for a guy like Aaron Rodgers, who's trying to win another one. You know, when you start to look a teens, I haven't really Studying everybody in the last three days. Where did JJ Watt fit like when you start to look a certain situations? Could he go opposite the Myles Garrett in Cleveland? Can you pair him with Chase Young and what they're doing in Washington? I mean, you start to look at all sorts of I'm not trying to go to Washington Key. I'm trying to win a Super Bowl. But what I'm saying is What are the other moves that some of these other teams could potentially be making all of a sudden Washington lands? J. J. Watt in trades for two Shawn Watson? Now, all of us, you know, so you got to just see how it shapes up. Tom Brady goes from the New England Patriots after looking at and maybe the Niners maybe Chicago. Tampa Bay lives Good. Here's the roster. He has to do those things who are playing Who's playing behind me. What? The linebackers look like, What is the secondary guys? Well, you know, he may wind up for all we know with the L. A Rams looking at that defense. We just don't know until it happens. It will be fascinating to see because I agree with J. I mean, if you wanna get that Super Bowl, Green Bay's out there If you want to be able to say you played with your brother Pittsburgh is out there. There's so many so many opportunities on the way. Tom Radio never apologize. He threw two touchdowns to rob Gronkowski and one to a B in the Super Bowl. They wouldn't be there without Tom. But it's another toss that Tom made that he's actually having to apologize for that is on the way.

"We wish you a very pleasant good evening wherever you might be, as we welcome you to Super Bowl 55 from Raymond James Stadium, and it has been a season unlike any we have ever seen in the National Football League, obviously, with our country struggling in the world with this global pandemic of covert 19. 25,000 fans are in attendance here today at the stadium, 7500 of them frontline workers as guests of the National Football League. It's the Bucks and the Chiefs and on paper. This is a matchup like we have never seen before. In the history of this Super Bowl, the goat Tom Brady looking for his seventh Super Bowl championship. Playing in his 10th game against Patrick Mahomes, who is trying to lead his team to back to back championships for the first time since 2000 and four with that it's now my honor and pleasure to welcome my broadcast partner for the 12th consecutive year. The Great Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals and NFL Man of the Year. Larry, How are you Today? I'm off standing. Jim was always great to be with you. The only thing that could be better was You being on the field, but glad to be back with you, Jim. You know, looking looking forward to seeing a wonderful game match up with two dynamic quarterbacks and head coach. I really, really respect in another coach. I really love Oh, my goodness. Okay, So the one you respect is your former coach of Bruce Arians, right? No, no, no, I'll tell you, I say I respect Andy Reid got a chance to know him pretty good. But nowhere near as well as I know Kocharian's obviously haven't been, you know, playing from for five years you have a lot of respect for him and So many of his coaches on that staff. What makes him special. And what do you think he can bring to today's game to win this Super Bowl? Well, coach Arians has been in the spotlight many of times you got two Super Bowl championships he wanted as an assistant coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. And so the moments not too big. He's called these games and the largest minutes he stole the Super Bowl for me and In 2009 s O. He understands the dynamics. He knows how to get his best players involved. He's gonna put his players in position to make the place that they're capable of making him. He does a really good job off. You know, putting guys in formations hiding emotion Ng s so they can create the matchups that they're looking forward to make it easy for time to get the ball to his best players, Larry on paper. This looks like The best matchup that I can remember in a Super Bowl. You know, in an awful long time, if not ever. Paper doesn't play. But as you now looking, analyze this game do you think it's going to be is appealing as the hype has been for this game based on this matchup that we see Absolutely. Yeah. I mean, I think we're seeing today the greatest player to ever play football and Tom Brady still proven to everybody who's ever doubted him that there's nothing that he can't do when he sets his mind to, it doesn't matter. New England or Tampa wherever he's all about business, and he's the standard that, he said is unparalleled. And then you look at Patrick Mahomes and what he's been accomplished in this three short years. The numbers has put up the winds of the magnitude of wins championships. Um Doable and VP last year. He is really, really a special player in a future Hall of Famer in his own right, and so to be able to see, you know, two of the best player of the game is has had, you know on this stage? You know, with everything that's going on this year is gonna be a special night. You look at the playmakers that both of these teams have is gonna be a lot of scorn was gonna be some wonderful place made. And I think everybody's looking forward to this match up today, all right for Tampa Bay to win. They have to what they have to run the football. They have to be consistent. They have to stick with it. They have to take two shots when they have the opportunity, but they got to continue to run the football. This will Limit the possessions that Patrick Mahomes gets. If you could do that, that takes him out of his rhythm. You get him in three and out a couple times and, you know, you just want to plant the seed of doubt in their mind, and I think Tampa can do that if they could stay consistent with the running game. And for Kansas City to win. They have to do what they gotta get Travis Kelsey involved early. We washed their games. When he gets going early. It really confined their safeties. They can't get outside the numbers to be able to take away some of the deep passes. And so I think it's very important that they get him involved in intermediate passing game, going down the seams and really put some stress on the temples defense up vertically. They're not want to talk to you about Britt Reid, the son of Andy Reid, coach on the defense. He was involved in a very tragic car accident when he piled into the back of a car. Ah, five year old is in very critical condition. Four year old was also injured. And of course, our prayers and thoughts go out to them and their family. We talk about football now. What type of an effect do you think this is going to have on the head Coach of the locker room and the morale there? I think it will have any effect. Remember talking about his son? You know, it's very difficult to be able to separate that. Anybody That's apparent knows you're always want the best for your Children. It's Is unbelievably tragic situation and you thinking about the young people that have been affected by this and you hope and pray that they'll be able to pull through. But I think the guys in the locker room I understand that you know, this year has taught you more than anything. You know what guys? Missing time We're called Did you know did schedule change and things that nature? You haven't you've had to deal with adversity that you never have had to deal with. So I think this year people are much more equipped to be able to deal with it. But I think the questions and the things that you get the day before two days before he came about it. You know, it was definitely a distraction. No. Obviously a horrible situation, and Andy Reid will coach the game today. Larry, Are you retiring? No, John, I don't have any plans to make any decisions. As of today. I'm here. Just enjoying the game. Um, you know, I was kind of go through this always go through this process. So let's get your pick similar bias on this big Jim. So if I was, um just the average person just looking at the numbers looking at the teams, I would probably pick the Kansas City Chiefs. But You know the relationship. I have a coach chains and Tom Brady and so many guys on that staff. You know, I really want one to see Tampa do well, I want to see him win, and, uh I'm going with the Buccaneers. Because of that. Have you ever picked with your heart before? Because you've been no. You've been very good at this. No, I don't. I never pick up my heart. So if you were picking with your head, you would say, candid speech. But your picking with your heart I'm thinking with my heart. Larry as always. It's great for you to be with us here on Westwood one, and we will talk to you at halftime. Thank you Look forward to a gym. No guys come in. We all buying. We're all on the same page with our with our goals and, you know, team goes and you know, I think we could go out and we can We can be successful. One more question on Justin here real quick. What makes him so good? Man. Uh, And honestly, there is nothing he can't do when he comes to the football side of the ball on the football aspect of it. Hey, uncovering to tackle, you know, he said he could glitz. You know, he's a We're around the player and he plays that he does it all at a high level. You know, when you talk about heart beats other defense, you know, he's definitely no one of those guys. No, I mean, it's nothing he can't do. I mean, I'm sure you've seen. I'm sure everybody else he'd, in my opinion. He's the best safety, you know. And in the National Football League s o e. I mean, not only that He's a great guy to feel. You know, He's huge in the community endeavor, you know, and, uh, Walter paid man of the year recipient. Compounds now, so I mean, it's just a great guy, man, and I guess it is. There's nothing he can do on the field. I see you tweeted out that you were working on it. You're you're having a little bit of fun with people on Twitter. But you said I see all the tweets just know I'm working on it. And this obviously response to your former teammates. Shawn Watson. What do you think? He's going through his mind right now on having a champion. It's all gone. No, we just talked about the situation in hand and Houston and things like that. Everything on me. Obviously, he's personal hard things involved, you know. Meaning got to a point where you know a guy like that, you know, with that supreme time and that he has, you know, paid up. So you want to go to will be in a situation that would be great for him to his career, you know, and I don't think anybody can't blame him for that. There was a lot of Things been happening in that working. There's a sign. Obviously, I'm not there anymore, but I mean Dusty death in question the best way. In a today Easy definitely gonna make the best decision for him and his history moving for what do you think he's looking for right now? I think he's looking to go somewhere where he could be a contender. You know, you gotta go somewhere where he has pieces around him. You know, on both sides of the ball, where he could go and You know, maybe that particular position is, you know Maybe part of the little gate or not, where, as he wants it to be. So whatever team he ends up he, uh if they have pieces around of their instant contenders, in my opinion, you know he's got special of the talent. You true, Everybody sit down if everybody could agree with you so He just He just especially guy on and off the field. You know, I'm great human being and me and definitely enjoy playing with it when I was with him for years. No, no doubt about it. Hey, cream really appreciate the time vessel like this offseason. Kind of echoing Maura less what he told TMZ. He had the part in there with team Cee about how to Shawn Watson had interest in the Broncos. But more less kind of talked about AIDS. It's kind of up to the front office is, he said, which is Shawn Watson. Make sure contender. There's no question. I think we could say this unequivocally the shot once in the better quarterback Andrew Luck, I don't think he's making the argument. It's more about What the cost of the Shawn Watson the other road blocks of the Texans, admitting they're wanting to trade him and in the Broncos wanting to pony up for that cost the lives of some pretty significant roadblocks, okay? But again, it was cream Jackson. It's It Sounds like he has a pretty good relation There was John Watson. Maybe something comes of that. But there are other things that are obviously a play here yet about the A minute or so left here. J is up next here. We wanted to talk about Tom Petty for second. What's up? J. I'm sorry. That was a bit earlier. You didn't you said Tom Petty is at the end of his career. That's what Coover was talking about. He said. He went when he saw him towards the end of his career. He died, You know, with his career. He's an artist. Always valid. You played in the Super Bowl halftime. Not so many years ago. Yes, we know he died. Yes, we're aware of that. I think that the point of it is is the murder. Where that okay? Yeah. If you're gonna be a jerk, then you're gonna get run. I don't even know what to tell you about that. I don't know what Coover Coover was saying was toward it was last records that he released I understood it..

"In the National Football League, although, as I'm now said a couple of times and, uh, my guest, Michael Dwight to dry just came on. Said Yeah, Jody, you're exactly right about that. There's a trade that's been announced in the National Football League. It is not official You can't make trades in the National Football League right now. This season ended the trade deadline was backed at mid season. Active trading doesn't start again until the NFL New season begins, and that's not till March. So although this trade has been broken, announced, talked about I don't think either team is going to renege on it. But it's not official for like seven weeks from now, but the Los Angeles Rams have traded Jared Goff. To the Detroit Lions. Ah, along with not one, not two. But three future draft picks to first and a third. Haven't gotten the details on what those draft picks are judge had. As soon as I get it, I will pass it along to you and the Detroit Lions have sent to the Los Angeles Rams. Quarterback Matthew Stafford. It's a trade absolutely for today for the ST Louis Rams if they trade for down the road and in the midst of a rebuilt for the Detroit Lions. Despite the fact and brighter guys to me have said this and most times it is accurate, but not at all times. Is it accurate? The team that gets the best player in the trade. Usually wins to trade not always wins the trade but usually wins the trade and the best player in this trade is Matthew Stafford. When you're talking about three future first round three Future draft picks, two first rounders. And a Reasonable. Quarterback Jared Goff is not advanced the way that the Los Angeles Rams it certainly hoped when they took him number one overall five years ago, But you get a starting quarterback back in exchange. It's not a bad trade. From the lion standpoint, my evaluation on deal playing amateur general manager for you here, Lion fans, Ram fans, you get on my phones, any other team? Maybe your in the mode off looking for a starting quarterback. I know there was interesting. Matthew Stafford with other teams around the league. What does this do to the trade value of to Shawn Watson? Matthew Stafford brought back To one's a three and a starting quarterback in exchange. How high is the ass gonna be from the taxes now all by the way tax in just hired a new head coach who said as far as I know. Destroying that Watson going nowhere fast. He's gonna be the quarterback of the taxes watching is officially requested a trade very interesting the way it's going to shake out first in Houston and then across the league. As to what teams will be willing to not only pay, but I'll now tell you over pay in exchange for DeJuan Watson. I'll take your calls. Get aboard with me at 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. We got some open lines for you. Harry and Portland's online one Harry Rough on CBS Sports Radio. Hey, what's going on The land. First of all, you know, it's been enjoyable listening to you here for the last hour show with the interviews and all and I gotta tell you something. You know this doesn't really happen in the league. And so it's different. And so what I would like to say is, is that you know what this says about the league right now is is that your team? Needs a proven quarterback that even though you might have given a contract that some guy you thought, itwas If he doesn't come through. There's other avenues when you might be able to get yourself a quarter black and you know, you might not like Stafford. But its network has is a proven quarterback of gossip is Well, you see, it's so I mean, even though he took him to talk to Super Bowl I mean, you know, he's a you know, for And so I just got to believe at this point in time. This is right now a time in the rooms where, if your if your coach If you're going to last in the league You better make sure you have a quarterback 11 thing real quick. The Miami Dolphins need to pay attention to this man because you've got a quarterback that isn't proven. And I don't think it's gonna last believe, and they might be looking for coaches and general managers. I'll hang up a listen to you. All right. Appreciate the call Harry. Here's the one thing. That I'm having trouble wrapping my head around and I'm not going to give up my beliefs and principles. I understand your argument in anybody else's argument about If you look at the career regular season that Matthew Stafford has had the numbers he put up in a quarterback rankings, and the number of total yards and touchdowns is compared to Jared Goff. Matthew Stafford. It certainly had a better Regular season career. Jared Golf has one postseason games. Jared Goff did Help the Los Angeles Rams to get to the Super Bowl just two years ago. Matthew Stafford. A decade into his career in the National Football League is over playoff winds. He got the Lions to the playoffs three times in a decade. Back in 2011, which is now pretty long time ago where he got beat by the Saints, 45 to 28. All right. The team gave up 45 points on defense. I would say that wasn't a game that you could lay at the feet of Matthew Stafford, a loss that you would peg to him in 2014 made it against the Cowboys. A debatable called during that game. But the Cowboys did win 24 to 20 that was 2014. And then a couple of years ago 2016 against Seattle. They got beat 26 to 6. That was a game that the yes, the alliance did absolutely nothing on offense, and Seattle eliminated him their first game in the postseason, So he's sitting on an old for three in the post season one. I will absolutely not blame him. He scored 28 points defense gave up 45 the second game. Debatable playoff call. Um did that was active reason why the lines will have to game well, some on him. He got the chance. I'm trying to remember the exact way that that game played out. I think the lines had cancer. Get back in and get overcome that questionable call and in the game against Seattle a couple of years ago, Yeah, Stafford did not play well, The lion offense generated next to nothing in that game. Over three years old for three. And I'm having a tough time working past that, knowing that Jared Goff and he's never been the guy. He's not Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. Or Tom Brady in New England, who could carry their teams on their back when I got to the postseason, but he was the quarterback of the team that made it to the Super Bowl within the last three years. I think that the Lions actually did OK in this particular deal David and Buffaloes up on CBS Sports Radio, A David.

"Um, And so it was very, very gratifying year in the years you fucked back. That was one. I remember the journey more so than the game. So you win that Super Bowl, you coach one more season with the silver and black and then you walk away. Now we're talking to you. As Bill cowers my guest on CBS Sports Radio. In the year of 2021. I would have thought that you would have returned to the sideline at some point. You surprised that you never got back into it. No, no real. You know why I stepped down. There's more just because Most more for family reasons at the time, and I just want to dance with, you know. 29 years old. I've been is in the National Football League for 26 years, the player and coach Um and I wanted to take a step back because I still took a step back a lot of things. Didn't go exactly the way I was thinking it would go. My wife passed away three years later. Um And you know, I met my current wife. Now I find myself doing TV and I thought myself quite off having an Aussie, which I never had before. And I found myself with more balance in my life than I did before spending more time with my kids. No, I got five grand kids. So you know, I think when you talk about coaching the National Football League is a tremendous sacrifice. It should make it terms of time commitment. No jury, no downtime, and you better have someone with you. That's a very supportive who also understands you know that that lifestyle so then obviously at the same time No. There's more transparency with cell phone came along. The camera phone came along. Always social media, all that you have no more really don't have much more private life anymore. If you're living in the glass dollars, is being head coach of the football team, and the city is So all those things doctor into it. Don't think of myself before I got great balance in my life right now. I'm very, very happy. And I love what I'm doing. And I love where I live. And yeah, so I really don't miss it. And you know you always miss competing the camaraderie of players, But, you know, I'm gonna wait for 14 years now I love talking about still loving our check interacting with coaches around again today from our players. They're in the game today. That was enough for a very long time, and I have a lot of respect for the game itself. Could you imagine having to have a conversation these days with your players about Twitter and Tic Tac Way? Started leaving? We start having her was out there. He started have that out there so One of the first things you talked about was looking within this building stays in this room within this throne. And if you have any questions, I would open door policy and please ask, Do you have to go through the media to get any answer so We try to make sure he said down a regular basis, trying to mix things before it got started. But yeah, a lot more social media out there now they're directly was when I was coming for sure. No question about that. Bill Cowher here with us for a few more minutes, part of the NFL today as you watch him each and every Sunday and you would definitely be watching him coming up next Sunday as CBS does have the Super Bowl between The Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since we were talking about why you didn't come back, I'm looking right down the hall right now. And I'm staring at a studio that boomer science and broadcast from each and every morning on his morning show Boomer and geo on the fan. What was Boomer doing? Trying to stir up the pot to try to get you back to Ah, New York and Coach The Jets? Yeah, I'm sure you remember that right? Oh, gosh. Yeah, I think I think Boomer I don't know. Maybe it was hopeful Wister Bristol hope on. You know, I don't know. He was You started. Your wife said it. I certainly you know, kid with him about some things, I said, I just general are simple, but there's nothing to judge. It's not a bad job. I think I got a good coach with Robert Saleh. There's a lot of things we like about where they are. So I think it was just wishful thinking on his card. So, um, you know, I don't know why you would say something like that. But he did have, but that's rumors. You know, we all did. And kind of those things out there sometimes. All of these came from the right place. I've gone up there with him at all recently attended debunked that pretty quick that extent of lots of people call me Perfectly players or other coaches are looking for jobs. I say Well, no, no, no. There's no church that one. So when we get to the future of the Steelers wrapping up a gold cower. Ah, lot of people feel like big Ben is going to return. We don't know anything that is set in stone yet. Do you think the Steelers should want him back? Do you still think big Ben has some good football left in him? Hey, on the ticket, fearing the worst situation, right? I mean, I think that has done so much for the team, but he's been there all the time. You've been there. And so I think all these things they don't have to sit down and talk about terminated. Crack cap ramifications and Where they are on the marquee policy. Is he gonna try it into that whole thing? So there's a lot of questions that need to be answered. I think it all of the gold. Sit down here is it gives us some time just kind of walk away. I always think it's really important to take a least a week or two weeks off. After a season because it's too emotional of his season. You spill everything into it when it ends the way a lot of times that you don't expect it. Then you really need to step back and make sure you say things objectively, not subjectively. When you get caught up in the emotion of the moment, so I think that they will do that and sit down with the skills of course of action, Then, isn't he a lot of conversations being happy? So I think what Austen done will come out at all on the same page and move forward. We know they got to start to run the football more. They were not successful at that this past season when you look at it in the entire package, though, if Ben does come back and we'll see what improvements do they make? You know, I've just been individually. Do you still think he could win another Super Bowl in this league and get that third ring? Mommy, I think blood bank is don't make place. There's no question about it. I think he absolutely needs to play you want to do in a season, even near the yet he can still throw the football. There's no question that you've got a very young Receiving corps is up there during the Dante Johnson chase people. I mean, those due to good receivers to go, you know? Yeah, I think that's not reassess where they are..

"Ahead to in the National Football League. Yeah, the Buccaneers and the Packers for the NFC and you got in the A F. C game Buffalo at Kansas City Buffalo at Kansas City. This is an intriguing game. It looks like my Holmes is going to play Buffalo. Is a team that has just been surging. And as I said before the break their quarterback Josh Alan, I think from year to year, two years there has been a quarterback that has made the kind of progress that he has made ought to be a wildly entertaining game. 6 40. Is the kickoff time for that in Kansas City right now and getting ready to cover this game. I'm sure Is a good and longtime guest to this program. Jeff, a doting has been on with me many times during the NFL season. It's great to have him back here on 700 wlw. Jeff, How are you on this glorious Saturday? Can doing Well, thanks so much for having me. Describe if you can right now. Just the emotion, the tenor The feeling of everybody in Kansas City right now, are people going crazy out there? People are going crazy. You know, there's all sorts of buildings and stuff showing pictures, the chief running back covered in red and stuff. You know, it's a little people are very excited, probably a little bit more muted than it was. Last year, just given with going on in the world, and also, you know, last year having one at all, but that's that. People are still very, very excited in Kansas City, and why wouldn't they be? I mean, it's this is this is a big deal for them now, the latest on the homes he is going to play. He is going to play. Yeah, and then in fact, you know he was sound like he was very lucid, he said he even remembered the play. He no like cruiser protocol, but he's like even broke down the play the kind of run pass option where he was hit by Mak Wilson. So Sounds fine. I'm ex Secure Ius. He also said, you know, before he suffered the concussion, hey, was laboring a little bit through a two injury, then quite look like himself in the second half, he said that has also gotten much better with each passing day. Now. Kansas City and Buffalo met early in the season week week, week six. I think, anyway, Kansas City won that game wanted by seven or eight points. Homes had a great game. I mean, if you look at his numbers, 21 2 26 2 25 couple of touchdowns, No interceptions. Buffalo, on the other hand, struggled as they have been to run the ball. And Josh Allen through Ah, pick that came home to haunt. I'm just wondering how different do you think this game will be this time now playing in Kansas City? You know, uh, great point about that previous game can and I think it will be very different in the sense that the bills were kind Think still kind of finally finding the way Josh Allen had a he's had an excellent season. I think the most improved player in the league. That's who I'm, a member of the Pro Football writers Associate association and I voted for Alan is the most improved player, but it's fantastic season as he has had, he had a little bit of a dip a little mini slump in this Coincided with that, and also Buffalo was pretty beat up defensively. Matt Milano, one of the best linebackers wasn't playing, so I think It will be a little more crisp offensive game for the bills with also interesting the story of that previous game. Well, the Hamas played well is really the chief's running games that just obliterated. Um, the the bills. They rushed for 245 yard chiefs, including 161 from Clyde Edwards, the lair, So that's really the story does what happened in that? This week are excusing that October game is that to stop the deep pass? You know, that was the focus of the Bills defense because my home is so dangerous that way. They really allowed the chief's running lanes, so we'll be interesting if they maybe bring those guys down a little bit. Well, that's such a getting gassed by the run again. Edwards, a lair. Um well, let's not necessary last week against Cleveland, I thought we all know what was going on there, but he really Hasn't run all that effectively. Has he In the latter stage through this year. I mean, I know they played a game against Vegas. His his total yards weren't up his yards per carry were very good. What's going on with him? Yeah. You know, he obviously hasn't been quite as effective if you was early in the year. Then he had the injury, So this will be his he slated to play. This will be his first game back since, uh, suffering that injury. You know, my He hasn't said this, but I also wonder if we just A lot of wear and tear just a college guy not using used to the long season and the Chiefs were using him a lot. But even if he is not his explosive is he was Only in season if he's still getting over the injury a little bit. They're Williams looks really good at running back for him last week on day also have Levy on Belle, who didn't play in the in the previous bills match up against chief. So Levy on is also a little bit banged up. But so the Chiefs do have other options running the ball, too. Yeah, On the other side of the equation is the Kansas City defense and it takes on some water nationally. Ah, lot of people think it's not a great defense. Uh, certainly, when you play with the kind of offense that Kansas City has, you're on the field a lot. I mean, you're you know, this is a team that can strike and score within three or four plays. One of the Kansas City defense and particularly how they match up in this rematch with Buffalo. Yes, Chief defense is really It is kind of maligned, but it has been Don't break defense, and they do seem to make plays when it matters most, you know, in the divisional playoff game against the Brown looks like.

"A football Friday at that a championship championship weekend. It's going to be glorious. I'm gonna miss football on Saturday. You know, That's why I left. I know that Z When I get depressed like it's I'm happy. I can't wait for Sunday. I've gotten used to these busy Saturdays where there's at least two games on Saturday. Let me see if the Blackhawks have some Saturday matinees that you could dial into Um, I guess for now, you know the back of the United Center, though tonight It is a busy weekend, so they're finally back home. It's the wings coming to town. The bulls are an action too. I mean, it does show you though, doesn't it? The power of the pigskin the flower of the pigs, like we've all been good games like and we wait for it. And then when it's here, we just roll around in it, and then when it not even when it's over, But like when were a few weeks from it actually, being over. We still have championship weekend that we get a week off, and then we get the big game. We're already lamenting the boy that will be created without the National Football League starting the What is it? The third Or the second weekend in February. I don't know if you know this what I contend to be a glass half empty guy. No on like when the regular season ends. I'm like, Oh, I'm so sad that the Red Zone won't be visited again and channeled 54. Till September. No more red zone and so said, And then I love my plants. I'm watching my plaster, then going into championship weekend and I'm like I'm so sad that there is no Saturday games. And then you know, before the Super Bowl, I'm gonna be like this Bye week sucks. I'm so sad. There's no football this weekend. You're the guy that wins the $500 Million Powerball and you're pissed because they give it to you in $5 bills with that I would never be mad about. I would love for that to happen. Something to be pissed about. It said Did someone win recently, too? Because I got olive. I don't I don't believe the power ball was one My wife went around the house and asked all of us for five numbers and then the Powerball number. We gave them to her. We did. I don't believe we had a single number all individually. I've played Maga millions last Friday. I believe mega millions draws against tonight. I believe it's just under a billion. Or maybe it's a it's past two billion by the time they take it all in Yeah, it Zambezia Clea, a billion dollar lottery prize up for grabs tonight on the mega Millions. I believe you always did. Like you never hear anything about the latter. Never hear anything that all of us on that it grows and it grows and everyone's like, Oh, yeah. You hear how big it is now, it's worth to play. So do that lottery drawing on G n? I don't know. I don't know. Are they still on the air? G n No, I'm kidding. I'm not getting in any of any of the fighters way we do, ever way have a new update on the Gene Greco? Uh, W g m morning news fight they they took to the airwaves again this morning that I'll get to I want to get a lot of participation today, whether 3323776 whether it's still do this Shawn Watson and the Bears conversation whether it's your thoughts on the playoff weekend and who you want to see win versus who you think is gonna wait. It's always a good conversation. Like Who do you want in your Super Bowl? You know what I mean? By the way, Patrick Mahomes has cleared concussion protocol. Oh, that's big, Shocking. I'm sure I'm not surprising. He's there's not been much drama always happens. I would say to you, though, that does not to me. Signal the all clear because it does from the concussion perspective of remember, He's a guy that also I believe that only Josh Allen ran had more success running the ball on third down this year. And Patrick Mahomes. And remember Patrick Mahomes before he got the concussion was dealing with a bit of a foot spring, right? Right. Atonement, our foot injury, right? And while looking and running with a bad foot running after you were in concussion protocol, you may be a little bit. Less likely to do it because of all that I like. I like the buyer Carmen today I like the bills, and I don't think for the record, I don't think there is AH, bad Super Bowl with these four teams left, I think and any way you slice it now, a lot of bears fans root against Aaron Rodgers. But seeing Aaron Rodgers back in the Super Bowl lot of drama, he's the reigning. He could be the M V p this year. If Tampa wins, you've got the goat in the Super Bowl. If Mahomes wins in Kansas City, you've got a guy going for two in a row and a guy who ultimately Could be the greatest ever and the bills are a fun and hot team to watch. By the way. I forgot to mention this yesterday, but you sent me the article from the athletic, the detailed, like like, Remember when, when Rich Campbell and Dan waiter or went through the process of how The Bears didn't draft to Shawn Watson and went through that the athletic did really good article on how the Kansas City Chiefs focused in on Shaw are. Excuse me, Patrick. No homes. And how bread beach. Who's their current GM? How involved he was It was a really good read. So I thank you for sending me that article. Yeah, well, the hook with that two going into it, and they were talking about it this morning as well. Miller played a sound, but I think from one of the scouts from Buffalo who no longer works there, But it was about the pick in which Patrick Mahomes ended up going was traded T Kansas City by the Buffalo From Buffalo. So now they've filled some voids. They have drafted some other good players, and then they ended up getting Josh Allen. S so it doesn't hurt as much as the bears, but they just continued to point out about how in that article. That hook and how pace went rogue again is well, well, yeah, that's the part to me was if you want to talk about collaboration do you want to read about true collaboration? Read that article because every member The Kansas City Chiefs brain Trust from their general manager down to some of their some of their assistant coaches. They were all on board. With this election, and they were all consulted, and everybody's opinion mattered well, and that's why when, when we circle back to the Bears thing and have brought this up a lot this week, when you look at Kansas City getting it right in your legacy, juvie those 10 other teams got it wrong from a home. So Ryan page, not not a big deal. Well, Kansas City had this brain trust up there, all right. It starts with the Hall of Fame coach and a guy who runs that organization in Andy Reid. It goes to John Dorsey, who at the time was there..

"One thing that's different from the NFL than those other leagues is. I mean, it is so few games so few games in the NFL so that every one of those games means Like what a 10 game run means in baseball, basketball or the National Hockey League. But your plan against your friends, your plan, you know, with your family watching. Everybody knows what the stakes are, and then you lose. It's embarrassing. I'm telling you No. The players. The players who care this is you know who who cares about how much money you make at the end of the day when you were a loser. You know, I'm saying when you were a loser, that's what you are. You're a loser and nobody that I know that is responsible for championship football can live with that. It makes sense that John would walk away and give somebody fresh eyes on it. I mean, listen after 10 years and I brought this up to you earlier today, but You know if you were to say that Any team around the National Football League. This is what a decade of your team is gonna look like. Oh, yeah. Five Division champion five Division championships, two trips of the Super Bowl. You win one of them, but You also have some of the worst times you're gonna have, and this is in a 10 year span. I. There isn't one team around the National Football League. That's not going to jump at that. I know I would. You know, the your career is so short, You know, really? It really is Joe Joe. Your career really is so short as a player. Even the great John Elway. I think you play 16 years you play 16 years, but in the grand scheme of things It's not a long time. Right. I mean what you had longer to play like, you know what Tom Brady is going. I think every guy who played the game is cheering for Tom Brady. Because 20 year career as an athlete, man, I'm just telling you right now, you know, I'm just I'm not really advertising it, but I'm gonna I'm on a health kick, and we just had this conversation, you know, and all I'm doing is Just taking care of myself and doing extended walks. You know, can we? Can we talk about what we're just talking about in the break? Yeah, And it's like what? What are all these things that are popping up? Body aches, right Body eggs. Tom Brady is playing football in the NFL after 20 seasons. Man that it's a long time. It's a really long time to be a professional athlete when guys are paid to knock you around. So when I see these guys that are part of this business, and I've had the kind of longevity that Tom Brady has had. I just shake my head. I just don't I just, You know, I played I played nine football season's. I went to one training camp. And said that was enough because it just hurt me so bad. So I you know, and losing on top of that. Can you imagine, you know, and I know once again, the money's great, But can you imagine your body aching and you're going out there and you get your ass kicked all over the place? It's embarrassing. It really is embarrassing and You know it hardens you. It makes you a person that you don't want to be. It makes you a person that you don't want to be, you know, and you find yourself You know, in these dark corners of your imagination about who is a good teammate who is a good coach? You question calls everything When you lose, That's what happens. That's why they say winning fixes everything. Amen to that. All right. When we come back, we're gonna hear from our NFL network. Yesterday's they closed out the regular season talk about the Indianapolis Colts. And this guy has wild folks of it.
