"And I imagine the defensive philosophies as well in in the NFL have changed. Vastly, since since I was a player back in the nineties, Um The The way they run it now, and we've had offensive coordinators come through Buffalo, Even when I played after after the Super Bowl years and and throughout, you know the early decades of the two thousands Here they you get these coordinators who come through have a system They want to run. And that was a big That was the way everybody did it back in the eighties nineties, and I'm sure back in the sixties seventies as well. They had a philosophy of offense. They ran. Whether the West Coast offense or the ground and pound whatever you want to call it. They all wanted to run a system of an off of offense that they knew they could. They could execute. Now It's not that way anymore. It is not that way anymore. Coaches in the NFL have gone to a level much beyond where they were back in that at that time period. Because now they have the ability you know, through the through the Process of becoming an NFL coach of recognizing what they have in their players and letting their players do what they do best. Most of the time, if not all the time. And Their limit. Now, back in my day. I always thought Don Shula was a fantastic coach because that's what they would do. He was the winningest coach in NFL history because Every year they would come up and they would have guys and they would be in certain years. They would be really simplistic defensively. Because they didn't have a versatile enough safeties or corners to do a lot of different things either zone or man or whatever. They couldn't switch back and forth as well as they like. They'd had to play a lot of zone or there to play. They like to play a lot of man because the guys weren't very good zone, whatever they did well. They did it and now they weren't deviating from that. Which they were limited because of that, right, so they didn't do certain things. But the things they did they did really well. They won a ton of games that way. And That Coaching style started to permeate the rest of the National Football League. So even now, Brian dabble The guys here around and around the league all the good offense as you see around the league and almost every one of them now. They look at their own roster. What do we do? Well, what do we What can we do? And what are we gonna do? Best? That's what we're going to look like. And and from there, we'll try and expand a little bit as our players get more comfortable and they can, you know, broaden their horizons little bit. We'll do a little more. We'll give them a little more and then by the end of the season will be in a much different place. Hopefully But that's what it is. Brian Dabul has been brilliant. In the development of Josh Allen and Conversely, Josh has been a huge weapon for Brian dabble in his ability to run the football and the throws that he can make and how smart he is as the fact that he got Josh got better game by game by game by game. And day ball. The Red Zone offense as they put together last year. The constant were phenomenal. And that, and that's just one example. It has really been. A just a great example of what the NFL is all about and having the all these guys back The coordinators and all that. That's where the bills sit right now, and that's why It's Super Bowl or bust, right? I mean, they want That's their expectation, and I think they feel it and are and Rightfully so. Rightfully so that that's theirs for the taking, and I ask where you've got to be as a team and that confidence breeds a calm attitude. Yeah, and they don't seem like I know it's the off season and we've just seen them for a couple weeks. And you know we're not. We're not even close to training camp training campus. I'm on the way still, but There's also the calm attitude and it's not like they're on their toes like We got to figure this out. We got to figure that out and again. I go back to the conversations that we've had with these players and talking to Josh throughout mini camp when he was talking to media over zoom, it was We're able to pick up at a different place. This mini camp last mini camp. There was no mini camp because of Covid. But this mini camp it's not, you know, figuring out a B C D. We're on e F G on Day one because we returned some money to this roster. We know what the expectations are. We know the coaches. There's nobody knew walking around here except your free agents in your draft picks, which it is a decent group of new people. But when you have so many people in the locker room who understand expectations and understand What they need to do. Day to day. The new players kind of fall in line to that pretty quickly, I think, and you're bringing in new players who seem like very mature guys, especially some of the vets that are walking into this locker room, and also some of the rookies that we've been able to talk to. I mean, I've been Impressed just hearing from them and in their interviews that they've already been able to do with us. But there's this calmness about this group this year, too, and I think it comes from the confidence that they have and The way that they've been able to pick up where they left off and not necessarily have to, you know, Start day one. All right, this first day of class first day of school. I'm nervous. I don't know where to go. I don't know what to do. It's like No. We've been doing this for a few years. Now we get it..

"Did you hear the news? The Carl Nassib NFL player for the Las Vegas Raiders, who is now the first openly gay, active professional football player. Did come out. He took to his instagram on Monday to announce he quote finally feels comfortable unquote to come out publicly and quote, representation and visibility are so important, he wrote. Joining us to discuss this monumental moment for the NFL. Our Jane McManus, director of Marist's Center for Sports Communication, and did spend sports columnist and Jeff Ruder, National reporter for the Athletic Welcome Back Jane and Welcome to W N. Y. C. Jeff. Thank you for joining us. Oh, so far, we only have Jeff. So, Jeff. Hi. Hi. Yeah, thanks for having me and listeners. We want to open up the phones to you as well, Especially if you have been a gay man in sports at any level. Talk about your experience or react to this NFL 1st 646435 70 to 86 46435 70 to 80 and anyone may call the gay men in sports will center you mostly If anyone happens to be in that group to call in right now, 646435 70 to 80 tell us any of your own experiences with that and deciding whether to come out to your teammates and your reaction. To this news 646435 70 to 80 or tweet at Brian Lehrer. Um Jeff, for those who don't follow the NFL closely. Who is this player? Yeah. Carl Nassib is a defensive lineman. He was a former big 10 defender of the year played for the Penn State Nittany Lions, and he is an established player, and I think that that's something that differentiate Carl coming out compared to a couple of other, uh former young American football players such as Michael Sam, who came out before the NFL draft in 2014 and then RK Russell, who came out after he had essentially retired or been unable to find a new team just a couple of years ago. He is a player who is I mean, he is seen as an established presence within the league. He's a veteran of the league. He's played for a few different teams. He's he started regularly gotten sex, You know all of these things. And now, of course, his his notoriety or his note ability, I should say, has increased dramatically this week fanatics, which is the main Jersey manufacturer and sales company for NFL jerseys does have Carl Nassib as the number one selling jersey in the National Football League since he came out, so that is a very significant milestone just in terms of not just his own recognition. But more importantly, the fan culture and the number of people who are excited by this inspired by this and want to support him as he continues in his career as an openly gay man. Now. Nassib will and forgive me, everybody for mispronouncing his name the first time I said it shows you how much I know about the NFL. Um, but you mentioned Michael Sam. The first openly gay player to be drafted by an NFL team. But my understanding is he soon thereafter stepped away and never played a regular season game. Citing concerns for his mental health. And so Carl Nassib would be the first player to actually play on an NFL team. Um, in an actual game. After coming out as gay is that correct? That's correct, and he does have two guaranteed years left on his contract with the Las Vegas Raiders as well. So it isn't just a case where you know he's going to be competing for a spot. He should be, in theory, certain to take the field at some point in 2021, assuming You know, health and other competition at the position doesn't come into play, And we do also have Jane McManus with us now director of Maris College Center for Sports Communication and a dead spin. Sports columnist who's reported a lot. Um, former ESPN on the NFL. Hi, Jane. Welcome back, And I guess my first question to you as as far as you could tell. How is teammates taking it? You've got a lot of support within the league. Um and I think you know you've had some really notable players come out and and say that they publicly support him in and of course, you know Roger Goodell has supported him. And came out and made a statement saying that he was he was proud of Carl and I think that means a lot. And you know, there are a number of players who played in the NFL who have been out publicly have been out privately to their teammates. Their teammates know and are supportive. But the public doesn't know And I think that's because there is this Threshold that one crosses when you come out as gay in a public way, and Michael Sam, I think has But the effects of that very considerably. He had been out privately as a as a college player to his Missouri teammates, and they accepted him. But then when he came out publicly in the draft, that's when things Really started to change for him, and he did get a lot of public support. But he also got a private back flash, I think and and he had to deal with that kind of on his own, and he has come out since then, and said that he felt like he didn't get a lot of internal support from the league. In the ways that it mattered. You know, he may have gotten You know people who tweeted support, But then when it came to the structural things and and you know, he never made the team and I don't think he would say it was because he took himself out of competition. I think he would say that. That the Of public conversation around his coming out affected the way that he was looked at as a football player. And I do think that that's still something um, that even a player like Carl Nassib coming out. You know, again, 10. Years after this conversation started about when the NFL would have a gay player who was publicly out as gay. I think that is, you know that's a long time. And that's because there is this distinction between the public and private. Discussion around this issue. And what about gender? You know, a listener reacted to the fact that I I put out the call before you came on for gay men in sports to call in and talk about your experience at any level and and the listener asked why Asked for gay men and not gay people in sports, And the reason is that might sense of it, Jane. Correct me. If you think this is wrong is that there's just more homophobia among straight men. Then there is among straight women..

You want to say that you say whatever you want. I might not agree with you. But we can debate that the one take Got a text from this morning. And it was about Renee Ro bears as complementary. Robert and Rick Martin and Jobar Perot. You know the idea that, um, you know those guys They loved it here they bought in. They embraced Buffalo and the texture followed it with Jack never had any commitment essentially. And that's where I'm going to give the old Shannon Sharpe. Nope. You let me know the next time somebody signs a contract as long as that guy did to be here. End of story like Don't try to sell anybody on the idea that he didn't want it. But he didn't commit that. He didn't want to be a safe. He they they have a rule. How long you can sign for the maximum is eight years he signed for eight years. You can say anything else you want, but you can't try to convince me or you shouldn't try to convince anybody else that he didn't want to stay. He legitimately agreed to the longest term he could And what happened from there? Well, that's debatable. Relationships fall apart. You know, all sorts of relationships fall apart that there you go. We can disagree from that point. But Mm hmm. Shannon Sharpe. Shaken, no matter Dumbo finger wag at that one. No way. Don't try to tell me he wouldn't commit. There you go. That's that's my many. "At my house here in west Chester, Pennsylvania. I just want to take a quick moment to say that I'm gay. I've been meaning to do this for a while now, but I finally felt comfortable enough to get it off my chest. I really have the best life. I got the best family, friends and job a guy could ask for. I'm pretty private person, So I hope you guys know that I'm really not doing this for attention. I just think that representation of visibility are so important. Um, I actually hope that one day Videos like this in the whole coming out process or just not necessary. Um, but until then, you know, I'm gonna do my best and do my part to cultivate a culture that's accepting and compassionate. He said. I'm finally comfortable enough to get it off my chest. Not doing it for attention just wants to be out there representation visibility, and he hopes that down the line, those types of videos or these types of announcements aren't really necessary. And I really relate so much. To this video. And I don't know, Carl. Um, I've seen him play on T V a little bit at the college level and at the NFL level, I mean, he is, you know, a legit player in the middle of his career. I think in his late twenties right now. He is under contract with the Raiders multi million dollars per year he is a valuable player. And the reason that I think this is so significant and I made this point on Twitter. I congratulated him. I said I was proud of him that I'll be rooting for him, and I said that this was courageous for him to do. And really meaningful. And there was some pushback from folks on Twitter. People who follow me. Much of it was polite, Push backs. I mean, you're always going to get some jerks on social media. But some of the pushback was, is it really Courageous anymore. To come out as gay when it's so mainstream. And people are celebrated all over American culture for this sort of thing. Is it really courageous? You know, why are using that word? That word should apply to Law enforcement or military members. And of course, that word applies to many people for many reasons, and there are different levels of courage, different forms of courage. And my response to the challenge. About using that word is this. It is true that it is easier than ever to come out. Is something that I did publicly six years ago. And it was still at that time in the modern era. Probably the easiest time in the history of humanity to do something like that, and a lot of people deserve a lot of credit for getting us to that point. And building progress to the point where it was a news story. I got attention for it, but it wasn't some huge, earth shattering thing. And it didn't, for example, hurt my career in a way that it may have in years or decades past or almost certainly would have right. Nassib plays in the National Football League. Would you like to know? And this is where the courage comes in. Because I'm in media. News media. I mean, we've got LGBTQ people all over the place in the news media. It's a very welcoming industry. When it comes to pro sports. As I was about to say, Do you know how many NFL players Who are active, meaning that they are actively a player. They're not retired. They are in the sport actively, and they actually have played in NFL games, NFL regular season or postseason games. Do you know how many of them have been openly gay? Prior to Carl Nassib? Zero. Not one Now, According to the NFL, there have been nearly 27,000 men who have played in the National Football League all time 27,000. Statistically speaking. It is impossible that there have been zero gay people on the field. As NFL players. Right. In all likelihood, there have been thousands. Certainly hundreds But for various reasons. None of them have ever come out. While active players. There have been none in NHL hockey. Non active in Major league baseball. One. In the National Basketball Association that was at the very end of his career. And I did some Googling if I'm missing anyone. I'll stand corrected, but the number of out active athletes In the Big Four American sports all time you can count them on one hand. And while it might be in wider pop culture or popular culture Celebrated and easier than ever. It's not university celebrated inside locker rooms. It's not universally celebrated among perhaps inebriated, heckling. Opposing fans. It's not universally celebrated. Between whispering teammates. It's not universally celebrated in a lot of communities and families. Looking at Nassib Social Media platform and his footprint. He seems like a pretty salt of the Earth guy who loves America. He's from Pennsylvania. The idea that this was not nerve wracking for him. As the first ever that this you know this isn't courage. This isn't a big deal. It's not significant. I just reject all of that. There's a reason why he is the first And just because corporate America is rain, Boeing everything Doesn't mean that it's easy. It's not Especially for people in specific professions or specific industries coming from specific backgrounds. It's easier than it has been, but it can still be really hard. I think I suspect I know at least partially, how he felt going into this. I think the way he did. It was really cool. And almost just pitch perfect, especially given His position in society what he does And the fact that he said that he finally is comfortable getting it off his chest to me. My antenna went up and I said, I read you loud and clear. Don't know exactly how it feels, but I've got a pretty good idea. So whether you're on board with same sex marriage or whatever you can have different positions on this. I'm just telling you from my experience in life. This is significant for kids for closeted athletes for a lot of people. And I hope we can get to the point. Perhaps soon. We're coming out truly is not a big deal, no matter who you are, but in certain areas and certain realms, it's still a big deal. And this is one of the bashing is the last bastions where it really Hasn't been accepted or tolerated fully pro sports And it took guts. Carl.

We're in this Derby, so so tell everybody about Trey Lance. Well, I'll tell you what. Trey Lance is one of the more impressive young men that I've had a chance to cover and get to know and be around. It comes from a great family. In fact it father Carlton spent a short period of time I believe in training camp with the San Francisco 40 Niners after his college career was over at Southwest Minnesota State and Marshall, Minnesota. So there's a little bit of A brief connect there even though Carlton did not spend a ton of time in the organization. But Trey, you know the conversation about training. Lance is going to come back to his Experience that's going to come back to playing at the FCS level Mark, but I think what what stands out to me is one He checks all the boxes physically, and I've had the The opportunity to be around college football programs like the Brassica in West Virginia and cover power five in the Big 12 in the Big 10 and as he seen a C C And Trey. Lance has all the physical tools you need to succeed in the National Football League. But more importantly, mark He's a great young man. He's

Video games for good

"Listeners it's mike schneider and i'm brett molina and welcome back to talking tech. As with many other events canceled due to the covid nineteen pandemic. there is no south by south west festival in austin texas. This year. That is true. But there's a virtual south by southwest going on online through saturday march twentieth. And i got a chance to participate. Let me tell you a little bit about it. I've been scheduled to moderate a panel last year gaming for good but the festival got cancelled entirely when we knew there was going to be a virtual festival this year the company that sponsored the panel skills decided to go ahead and do it so we recorded our discussion over zoom in late february and it was really enlightening and very made me very hopeful about things. Here there's a story. On tech usa today dot com. You can read that if you want. If you really wanna watch the panel and do all the other fun things at south by southwest. Has you can still buy a ticket to the festival. There's a link in my story for that too. But here's the basics. I learned from from the panel. The panelists we had three of them. there's a program called gamers outreach that provides video game carts that means it has like a secure tv and a game console on. It's it's either hook to wireless or however they do in the hospital in two hundred thirty children's hospitals around the us the founder zach. Weigel began the program when he was a high schooler halo tournament. The got cancelled He'd organiz the tournament but public safety official voice concerns about the high school cafeteria being used for a hobby. That was quote corrupting the minds of america's youth in quote. The guy said so to show the gamers from it meant well the next year weigel try it again and raise money for a local children's hospital with that resulting tournament part of that he learned. The hospitals often have trouble keeping kids occupied when they're recovering from treatment in their rooms so that led him to begin having online fundraising to get these. You know cards game carts into hospitals all over the country if you wanna get involved gamers outreach as gamers forgiving event online this weekend and there's a lincoln my story or you can go to gamers forgiving dot org also this weekend skills which is spelled s. k. i. l. l. z has a gaming for good tournament to benefit the american red cross. You might have heard about skills. They they became a publicly traded company in december twenty twenty and last month. They signed a multi year deal with the national football league to create a mobile game in any sports community around the game. That's gonna come out later this year. Basically did a crowd source thing to get developer to find a way to create a cool game. Play on mobile devices Anyway what skills does they connect millions of players all over the world to compete on about five thousand mobile games including solitaire. Cube and blackout bingo. These these are on android devices and they've had passed charity online events. Where your entry fees to compete you know go towards Charities such as american cancer society world wildlife fund and the nwa. You can see information about this weekend's events in the app itself against s k i l l z and it's on ios and android or. You could find the lincoln my stories

"Nearly six thousand amazon employees who work at a warehouse in bessemer alabama are voting by mail on whether to unionize. If they do this will be the first union amazon facility in this country. Here's jennifer bates. Who works there. I keep butterflies and butterflies. Normally come to calm me but hey this is my stomach faithful. It seems like it's getting bigger and bigger full of butterflies. Because there's no break in. Think i don't know how kogo nerve wracking. The election ends later. This month and i should mention. That amazon is a financial supporter of npr. But we cover them like any other company. Some lawmakers support the union. Including senator marco marco rubio or republican and of course president biden also michigan congressman andy levin earlier this month. He and a group of democrats traveled to bessemer. Good morning congressman. Good morning noel. How are you good thanks. What did amazon employees. They're tell you about why they want to unionize. Well you know a union election so often are about basic dignity and that was really true here. I was shocked to learn what it's really like in there They work in a facility. That's like fourteen football fields and it can take ten minutes to walk to a break room. They've to half hour breaks in a ten hour shift so they might get effectively ten hours to eat lunch be by the time they walk there and back lot of them. Don't feel like they can go to the bathroom. Except on their break. And they're watched and quantified every second they're monitored visually a listening geo positioning and every second they're not on task is measured and if they have a certain number of minutes off task in a week they could be fired sometimes might not even be a person involved it was really kind of dehumanizing to me. Here's the argument. That amazon makes amazon. Says look our employees. Earn fifteen dollars an hour which is a good wage in a place like bessemer alabama. Some of them have health benefits. 401k's essentially they have got the benefits that a union would get them. They don't need a union. What do you make of that argument. I'd like to tell that argument to any national football league player and the actor and a movie any presenter on major television or radio networks all of whom have a union every single one. The idea that unions are only for people who are the most poorly paid. It's ridiculous the one person who is unionized. That every airline is the pilot so this argument is ridiculous. These workers deserve a seat at the table to discuss a safe workplace. During a pandemic they deserve a seat at the table to have a workplace. That's human and a real person can go to and great make fifteen dollars. An hour amazon should pay them a lot more the owner of the company. The main owner had his wealth increase. Seventy eight billion dollars during a pandemic and they're about pay jeff bezos in their bag bragging about paying people fifteen dollars an hour there. What's wrong with workers having their own organization just that they can have input in their in in their work lives. And that's all these people are seeking is a seat at the table during this trip to alabama that you went on your colleague congressman jamaal. Bowman said this doesn't stop with amazon. He mentioned lift. Uber tesla and walmart as well. What is the ultimate goal here. The goal is for workers to be able to form a union and bargain collectively. If they darn well please. Noel were down to six percent of private sector workers in this country needing union. We're gonna pass the proactive in the congress and the president is going help. Lead into new era when workers can have a say at the table. It's long pastime in this country. Michigan congressman andy levin. Thank you

Wide Receivers Were the Order of the Day on Franchise Tag Day

"Today was tagged a in the National Football League. We found out stars that we're getting the franchise tag, which may preclude them from Changing teams, and we found out some players that didn't get the franchise tag. Wide receivers were the order of the day and Alan Robinson gets the franchise tag. Chris Godwin gets the franchise tag will have more on Godwin and Brady coming up in a few minutes because this is a really big deal. But now who do you go after right? Who's the number one wide receiver you go after, and The guy who was going to be the beneficiary of this. And look, we've talked about who the three best wide receivers were gonna be in free agency this year, right? You and I did this about a month ago, and it was Robinson and it was Godwin and it was Kenny Golladay. You got it? And I know that that some people are going to be a little nervous. About Golladay. Oh, he was hurt. Last year, he was on pace for his best year in 2020 until he got hurt. I am so in on Kenny Golladay. Getting hurt last year doesn't concern me. You know anytime, you miss games, whether it's zits calf or it's a hamstring. It's not that big a deal right? And it's not something where wait. There's a big injury and maybe they're not going to be as fast as they once were. It's not that big a deal. I go after Kenny Golladay because he is everything. That a team's gonna want in a wide receiver. He can be the big target in the red zone. He's someone is going to stretch the defense. He is terrific. Listen. Matthew Stafford has been blessed with good wide receivers and great wide receivers his time in Detroit before he got traded to Los Angeles and Kenny Golladay. Is that good? I mean, he's going to get paid and He's the big winner today with the other guy's getting franchised and Kenny Golladay is going to get a lot of money and rightfully so, because he is extremely talented. I love the kid. Congratulations to him. Not only will he get out of Detroit and whatever the next phase of their world is, but he's going to get a mountain of cash to do it.

Philadelphia Eagles to start Jalen Hurts at QB over Carson Wentz

"Jalen hurts time in philadelphia and jalen hurts will make his first. Nfl start sunday against the new orleans. Saints so welcome to the league young man you go against a really good carson wentz back up her and while this seems crazy to all of us it's also kind of crazy to doug peterson i don't take carson wentz out of it. I didn't expect us to be in this situation back in april. So let's just start there. Listen everybody around jalen or around. Carson has to has to elevate their game. We can't do this. They can't do this alone right. They can't they can't do that. It's impossible to to attack. You know an opponent would just one guy so But i fully expect our guys. I play hard and do everything they can to try and win along perfectly clear here what's become crazy about. This is not the way that all of this went down because it became very obvious that a quarterback change needed to be made. But just the fact that here we are in twenty twenty and we'll probably see tastes hill against jalen hurts in this game i key. Let's start with you. What do you think of the eagles finally making this new well. It's about time. I think we you know a lot of the media around and been talking about this for weeks on of weeks but as they say better late than never and i think it's jalen hurts his job to lose and i'm talking about long term. I think when you look at the situation. And i've been around a lot of quarterbacks in my time in organizations and when you say here's a guy who has a opportunity on a two to three games sample that he could take this job and make it his own. He cannot be coursing wins. What i mean by that is he cannot play like carson with. He has to play like the jalen hurts. That was drafted in top fifteen picks in the national football league. That guy that we saw at oklahoma the guy that we saw a brief time in alabama. If he does that and he can ignite this offense. Then it's his job to lose. Come next off season. I think the philadelphia eagles are looking for the same things. I think when you look at it they say okay. If jalen does what he's supposed to do we go into the offseason with a quarterback battle. Ota's as many camp training camp. Give the up to carson wentz. Because that's what we're gonna do because you follow the money and then you put carson carson wentz carson jalen carson with a short lease. You say you got two to three games to prove yourself and if not we go snatch twenty one is hurts. His team were done which it. That is the way you do it.

NFL 'very likely' to use rapid-result virus tests for players

"The National Football League says it has an accurate rapid covert 19 test cave because Alex Tasker has the details. The Wall Street Journal says the NFL and a pair of biotech companies in recent weeks have studied a different kind of test that delivers covert test results in 30 minutes. The standard testing results could take days for a response. The new test developed by Mesa has been used on the selection of league personnel across five teams who also submitted their samples for standard PCR testing. The 917 tests using both methods each produced 27 positive samples in 890 negative samples, which were a perfect match. The developer wouldn't put a price tag on how much it costs to run each test. Eventually they hope to have these tests in people's homes sooner rather than later.

I thought I thought that they are the Monday night game Monday that okay, so they play Monday night. And now all before their offense of linemen have been quarantined and also for me and Rappaport. Rick of the Chargers have a positive test. You just reported Chargers had a player test positive for covert 19. And that player in all close contacts were told to stay home and isolate. The team learned of this last night. The facility will be open, but all meetings will be virtual. So Charger's not practicing today. Brandon Marshall on Browns chemistry now that Odell Beckham Jr is out for season due to ACL tear

"Shifting toward top story this morning news that we did all fear Odell Beckham junior lost for the season with a torn, left ACL. Keep in mind this is the third significant injury in Dell's career. This one has him out the remainder of the season head coach, Kevin Stephens, address the injury, and where the five and to Cleveland browns go from here. And Adele the energy brings the practice energy. He brings the Games you can't you can't No one else can bring that type of juice but. It's it's our job to find the guys that that can go compete that we can go put them in sponsor they can succeed. And I think. We'll be able to do that. That's not easy. Don't WANNA have to And I'm very disappointed for Odell. But that's the nature of this beast at injuries are part of this game and doesn't mean that many of us have to like it, but we do have to deal with it. Brandon. Brandon. How do expectations change now for the browns with Oh bj gone for the rest of the year Yeah I mean. They really don't change much. They should actually be better. Now this is unfortunate. Odell is a great player. It's it's going to be hard to replace his talent. You're going to miss them in moments you're gonNA, miss his playmaking ability. You're GonNa Miss, those times one to one going to miss those times where he breaks three four tackles and he can possibly. Get you back in a game or possibly even win one or two ball games but this team will be better because I believe there's no chemistry and no continuity. Well, we actually we all know that there's no chemistry and continuity. When you're dominant number one wide receiver, you put so much pressure on the play caller. You put so much pressure on the quarterback I experienced this throughout my career and I had. To learn how to communicate with quarterback communicate with the play caller because if you get an play callers, did they get out of rhythm and that's not what you want. You want that play caller to feel good about what he's dowling up. You also want that quarterback to be free think freely when he's dropping back going through the offense going through progressions. If he has one on one, he has landry on this. On this side. Well, people are going to say, well, why don't you throw del well, maybe two quarterback wants to go to Landry. So for that reason I think, Baker, will be better. He has a Guy Higgins that he has great chemistry with going back to his rookie year landry is his guy I think Baker will be better. There's going to be a lot of pressure on him to really work his offense now but now we're going to see if he is the real deal. So. If, if Landry's is guy, he's not, he's not having a bad year but he's on his spectacular year and I've heard you say though a wide receivers best friend is the other wide receiver because it takes them defensive pressure off him. But so far he's got zero touchdowns. He's actually thrown for more touchdowns than he's caught. So why do you expect Jarvis to be better and not worse? Well. It's more so about the offense I'm looking at. Them. Having success as an often when you look at Landry's banged up, he has a broken rib. He's been dealing with that but it could be because they've been they had too much emphasis on other guy on Odell trying to figure out how to get him going. So when that trade deadline come up, they're not trading him they actually find a way to make it work. So there's so many different reasons but I want this play caller to feel free and get into a rhythm I. Want this quarterback to drop back and go to his guys this team. How they win is on the ground and play action, but they're going to need to win throwing a ball like they did this past week sometimes in the national football league.

Bengals rookie, Tee Higgins, getting more comfortable in offense

"Lance McAllister. He is Dave Lapham. It's welcome in a special guest. He's the Bengals rookie wide receiver for catches on Sunday. 16 catches on the season. We welcome in tea, Higgins t. How are you? I'm good. You're doing good. He had a 26 yard or yesterday. That was the longest play from scrimmage for the Bengals against that Baltimore Ravens defense If you played against a defense on any level that was more aggressive than what the Ravens took us a posturing yesterday in that football game. Um, I mean, I've been in the league knows. You know me plan against other sue in the national championship there, David, Mrs. Really aggressive. So that's the first time I've seen that since that game. See, I mentioned 16 catches. Now It's 16 times you've hooked up with Joe talk to us about the the comfort level in the chemistry you feel it's developing between you and Joe, Ah, utility and better and better each week. No, you listen to me more and more now, so just go out there and practice catching those, You know balls that he's given me, you know. With this behind me, or in front of me. He knows over the shoulder, so they're out there making those plays. Giving him confidence in me is, you know good so It seems like on a week by week basis you're learning and the one thing you talked about early, and teammates had mentioned it to you don't flash. Don't show your hands earlier. These defensive backs the guys at this level, You know, just kind of feed off of that. That type of thing. What other things have you learned little nuances that you've already applied in the early stages of your NFL career? Yeah. I can't do too much dancing at the London coach when you were going to get Stevie, you know, you gotta get point from point A to point B. And you know a lot of guys. Honestly, they're they're really good for defeat, and they're going to read you. So you just You can't can't do too much Daphne Blonde scrimmage. 85 games into your NFL career, Is it what? You thought it was the game? What you thought it be from a speed and everything you have heard? How was it played out for you? Yeah, that will be a new is gonna be a lot faster, if not more physical, You know that. It has been exactly that. Nah, just really well, and you know, really Now so plated Ellis you like you said, Death Valley. I've been to Death Valley Broadcasting games for that environment. There's nothing like in a night game of Death Valley. You haven't lived until you've experienced something like that. And then in the SEC, all the visiting stadiums that you go to, of all the crowd noise mirroring what's it been like? Plant in the National Football League with covert, You know 19 in the year 2020. That's been so different for everybody. What's that been like a Zen experience. Yeah. You know, having a no fan and stuff like that been really, You know really strange And we're you know, you know, I've been playing football on my whole life. Always have fans, and so is it really just feels like a scream? It's you got. Ah, Brain Accutane. Gotta bring no energy, So I mean, that's what we try to do. You make a play to bring all energy I'm getting so tight, you know, came allowing the crowd when there's no fans in the stadium, so That's really how we go about it. T fans get to see you play on the field, but I don't think they have an appreciation for everything that goes with it in terms of following the protocols in the testing, and that's got away. I would think that's gonna be on your mind. And yet you have toe push it aside to play football. What's it like dealing with everything else beyond just playing the game right now? Yeah. You know, you got to get tested everything the day at a certain time. And, you know, get our math everywhere. So I mean, It's been really, you know, really weird, But everyone's going to just too and you know, just following protocol just so we could go out there and play the game that we both. Yeah, it's an interesting year instead of going on the road and facing these hostile crowds. Your face in a hostile enemy and covert 19, you know, and it's like you never know when it's going to crop up like it did in Tennessee, in Miami and other places, And I guess this This is the year where you have to go from a mental standpoint, be mentally strong and be ready to pivot on a just, I mean the team that pivots and adjust the best, you know, be at the Patriots with what they're going through the Titans and other teams. And teams that really don't get affected by covert. But after almost, you know, work to make sure you don't every single day of the season, the team that handles that type of business best this year. The teams are going to be okay. Right. Just like you know, you just gotta be careful with the alpha people, not people, not always. In the building every single day, you know, just really quarantine yourself for what? You know a few more weeks. The season go through and you know everybody be alright, so To your body's taken hits now for five weeks. How Just how In general, do you feel physically at this stage of the season? I feel really good, You know, just getting treatment. And, you know, getting massages every week, you know, just got to take care of your body. You know, you don't take care of your body. You won't be able to play under sentence on Sunday. So You were exposed to. Ah, tremendous leaders, coaches players at Clemson. I think you thought that Joe borrow fit that category. A za an outstanding leader as he lived up to everything that you thought. My understanding is after the game, he instead to the to the defense. You continue to play like that. We won't lose another game this year. I mean, that's that's what you're looking for. From your guy at quarterback in it. Oh, yeah. 100% You know you want to go out like that is going to take Take ownership of you know how we play it off. As you know, we gotta compliment our defense when they go out there and get stuff. You know, we gotta go out There is four points where they'd be a field, road or touch now. And him. Coming up in, you know, speaking on it in a zoo, the game is really big, and that's what you're going to. God has run the offense see one. Ah, when all hick has been breaking, lose either good or bad. What has he been? What's job in like in the huddle? What kind of influence in leader has he been? From that standpoint? Got encouraging. You know he's gonna pick it up for my job. Go get a false start. You know he's going to talk to you encouraging you have that play behind, you know, And you know, we have a good place He's gonna you know. Giggle and laugh about it. Sometimes in the dependable know what the situation is. You know the guy that is the guy that you really want, you know, in the huddle. See how much carry over from Clemson in in your routes. The actual routes themselves are there to the to this offense here with the Bangles and National Football League? I know them different terminology, all those kind of things, but there are only certain number routes in a row tree, right? I mean, is it just me or is it just applying? You know things that you already know that you've done a million times? Make sure mentally you know, with the with the language and everything involved. You're on the same page as the quarterback. Yeah. Yeah, it comes and he basically ran everything. So I mean, you know you just from Beit was just you know, the different, you know, Route names and what? What The plate concept is So that was the biggest thing for me. But other than that, you know all the routes of the same You have two NFL touchdown catches. Do you have either football? Go out first. "The National Football League is supposed to begin training soon in anticipation off the season, which begins in September. But as with everything Cove it looms. Hundreds of billions of dollars are at stake, so we can expect the league to do everything it can to get on the field as Faras fans in the stands. Philadelphia already says no. It will probably go city by city. But there's another big problem Besides the pandemic. And that is social justice. If NFL players insist on injecting politics into Game day, pro football will get hurt, not enough to put it on the disabled list. But many fans, they're not going to enjoy left wing displays. Already. We've seen New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees castigated for saying he believes players should stand for the national anthem Freeze actually had to apologize. Why Because most of his team mates are black. And sympathize with protest ng during the anthem. Bree's new is team around would be damaged if he didn't back down. He said in that statement he said if there are no black players, there's no national football league. He knows that and he means it and I would have loved to see him. Apologize Colin Kaepernick. I would've loved to see him. Say something about Cabernet, but maybe that's for another day, but I do think the NFL has gone out here in a big way, and I am sure one of their biggest fans donald trump is not happy about this today. Would the owners had to agree to Goodell saying this? The owners usually agree of or android. Goodell does what the owners want. That is a great question. I have not yet been able to get the answer to that. As you probably know many of your personnel that at least ten NFL owners have given to Donald. Trump's campaign. They are big big. Donald Trump supporters including Jerry Jones with the cowboys Dan. Snyder here in Washington and I'm going to guess at some of them are not entirely pleased about this, either because there trump guys and they have not signed Cabernet obviously, no one has and they definitely. The they've put their money right where there is with with trump so. Now. You've got Roger Goodell going against the wishes of Donald. Trump that is a fact I think that Roger Goodell is sensing the mood of the nation and I think he's certainly with the majority of the nation and something that should be said. Young Fans Anderson are big fans. Of Cabernet. They bought all those Nike Jerseys a Nike. T shirts a couple of years ago with cabinet campaign in two thousand eighteen, that was so successful marketing campaign with Nike and so for your future fan base. This is a very very positive. Move me not for the older people, but those fans are going to be around for the next fifty years buying season tickets. I think. Roger Goodell. I WanNa bring in Benjamin, watching former NFL player, and I believe He's the author of under our skin, getting real about racing, getting free from the fears and frustrations that divide us. Benjamin I! Mean you wrote about this in in a under our skin. I'm wondering how you what you make. Roger Goodell statement. About them, we all have certain reactions, but whether he is sincere, or or if he's sincere, I think great good can come from this, and you listen to what he said we the NFL condemns racism. The systematic oppression of black people the next step. is to start addressing within the NFL. So this is a good thing. This is a great knowledge. Moment and I agreed that I do think Roger Goodell cares about these issues. But we look internally into the NFL and we just watched the NFL draft. We saw on our screens where there what gird many blacks and sea level positions. We know that there aren't many many minorities much less black people in ownership. There's three head. Coaches are black. How do we address those issues in the NFL? That's where the proof comes. That's where the action comes is by addressing the nepotism problem that I believe is still exists in the NFL desperate. We can kind of take this statement. Great Statement. We imply whether it was a pressure of players, which again I applaud our players from leading this now let's go to the next step and action. Let's see the proof when we look at NFL clubs now moving forward and Benjamin, your former teammate drew brees obviously had controversy this week when he said he'd never agree with NFL. Players who knelt during the national anthem. He's since apologized for saying that. Do you accept that apology? Of course of course I know drew is no secret play with do for several years led him and his family. I think that we have to collectively understand that when someone says something that they didn't mean something, no misinterpreted and they apologize. We forget that we move on. Do, said perfectly in a statement that he is going to with his actions through feels I. Think the biggest thing though is. He said he's going to listen. And that's the same thing you hurt Roger Goodell say. I'm going to listen look. We live in a country where we can have a multitude of different perspectives, if drew doesn't with people kneeling for the flag. That's fine what he does have to. Do is understand the plight of others understand the pain of others and be willing to step into their shoes and say you know what I may not agree with that I mean I understand that, but because I love you. Because I love your humanity, I'm willing to listen to where you're coming from and I know the on a shot of ago. Christine it's interesting because when when this was being discussed. When with Colin Kaepernick and others, there were a lot of fans who seem to not appreciate the idea of players taking a knee. Certainly, the president did and It seemed like the pendulum. See when once you know. Game started again and Games are being played. It seems like a lot of the owners backtracked.

"Good evening for eleven days now we have been hearing the call for change in this country, it's coming from the ground up from people, all races and backgrounds in the middle of a pandemic. She's thinking about that for a minute. As you look at the live demonstrations on your screen, not only are people risking their safety by speaking out and confronting police, which is something. Most people never do in their lives. They're also putting themselves at greater risk from a virus that's already killed one hundred nine thousand people in this country, a virus, which is still here still transmittable. Transmittable still killing people all around the world that is how urgently people want real and lasting change in the wake of George Floyd's killing by police nearly two mondays ago so badly they want an end toward has been a long running and deadly injustice to African. Americans in this country, and to redeem the country's long-standing promise of equal justice under the law, because you cannot have law and order without equal justice under the law and polling shows a majority of Americans. Most of whom you do not see marching. Agree with them the question tonight. How will those who? Hold Power respond to the calls for change keeping them honest events have shown. S. championship but ended up losing the the Little League World Series championship came to Japan but it was fun to through at least feel like you're a part of it even in a small round back in two thousand and one a cherished childhood memory of getting shellacked district qualifier in Orlando Florida did you have orange slices at least at the end you get to go to the orange slices and a Gatorade the little music on the ride home after getting smacked by these kids look like they were twenty two years old when I was eleven eighteen.

"Seven G. M. as in the National Football League the move the NFL draft three years okay watch the tape yes we've inform you commissioner Roger Goodell's told teams around the league draft will go on as rigidly scheduled next month so it will take place April twenty third through the twenty fifth will be scaled down in televised in a way that reflects current conditions it was originally planned to be a big outdoor production in Las Vegas that softies in golf on the decision by the league to keep the draft where it is from a logistical standpoint from a due diligence standpoint from a tone deaf standpoint I don't see how this can go off without a hitch and we already know that it's a crapshoot as it is but we're not having those private workouts not having a chance for your doctors maybe to put hands on the whole guys or maybe get another medical report afterwards if you send somebody to another position because right now all physicians are under such stress and such strain because of his medical health crisis that we have right now anybody moving with any kind of certainty or absolute fox says to me that there's money on the line and there's deadlines that have to be met the goal of doing going will Kane on the idea that the NFL show must go on I think we have to make do do what we can to do our best and I Roger Goodell's right to move forward with the NFL draft because postponing it begs the question of until when what are we gonna be out of this when we got to get back to normalcy when can John Elway go interview players I don't have the answer to that I don't think doctor felt she has the answer to that I don't think anybody has the answer to that just yet if you don't have an answer that you have to make do from Harlem world since free agency started I bother certainly been some I haven't seen a lot of kickback it's everywhere all little nervous of what are people going to think out there guys are signing these big deals in again in our world where a lot of times the big machine of the NFL can get ripped for not doing things socially right I haven't seen a lot of that so I I do think people are enjoying it again in the in the sports world and I and I do think people enjoy the dry the worst of the pandemic is probably still about fifteen days away right and then it's how do we deal with that and that would put us literally eight nine ten days before the start of the draft and there might be a different dynamic there but at this point I think the idea of the NFL going for from a public from a sports fans rushed back right let's be clear I think people are somewhat comfortable with that again this is a by product the New World War now in player physicals not exactly ideal for NFL teams who haven't been able to get the players their facilities to after agreeing to deals one such example the ravens and Michael Brockers the defensive tackle well he's now not heading to Baltimore instead and heading back to the rams two sides did reach an agreement last week on a three year deal rockers couldn't take it a physical at their facility openly did so with an independent doctor concerns arose over a lingering ankle injury two sides couldn't come to terms on an amended deal so he's back to LA for three season cowboys come to terms on deals with kicker Greg Zuerlein and defensive tackle Dontari Poe's airline gets three or seven point five million PO two seasons at ten point five signing in education Dallas is looking to get bigger on that front line speaking of boys.

"That route and the association of get involved I believe tomorrow what not so how does that process work I mean as a player is it almost like you know for a worker over here restaurant worker or whatnot in the culinary union is it almost like having the union basically going to bat for you and and maybe getting you reinstated in a situation that if you were not a new union you just wouldn't have a chance. I think you know the absolute you know there's a lot of people that look like you're getting what I was planning you know they felt like they were going in different directions they once they weren't representing the players but truly I I think the union does represent players are specially in in situations like this they provide a lawyer I you know if you go in front of the basically the management of the National Football League and which is the commissioner and all the other decisions that they occupy in the front office and you know it in what happens is you literally sit down I don't say it in a large meeting room which is that the table probably can see thirty people so when you're sitting in one of the commissioners is sitting at the other yeah it feels like you know you're getting your final sentence and but what happens is they present evidence and the evidence is the video of the game or something else that you've done either off the field and are you watch and sit there and there's attorneys are along with the commissioner and a lot of other people that are part of the National Football League and they make accusations why did you do this and in the case of a particular play bass wall the film down to the point where you think you've got plenty of time to make decisions you know you're running up there and be just before the contact they slow down so it makes it looks like it like you're walking in the park you know like you got you know several minutes to make a decision on how you want to do this not realizing that that is the way it happens everything is bang bang and what I mean by that is the players are so big and strong and fast now that when these situations occur for the most part they are so quick and you know moving your head around the state not to have the helmet to helmet contact is ridiculous because it doesn't take into effect if you're defender what the often if the player is going to do and you know so many times the offense player actually dogs who. head and they're the ones that are creating the helmet to helmet hit but you know I I do think that you know with with with his continued infractions over a period of time I think you have a cell is getting more and more just in a demand that this behavior will not. it will not continue and they'll they'll do whatever it takes to stanchions find other things that'll just delay or eliminated behavior. take.

"The highest level in the National Football League so to do something like this and have you know the the the white Sox in the cryo chamber and the homeless situation but the biggest takeaway from me is that no throughout all of this right all the things that are going on he hasn't had time to develop a relationship in the chemistry with his quarterback because he hasn't been there and that's the biggest thing for me this is in a situation like in Pittsburgh where he has familiarity with Ben Roethlisberger he understands the timing already they've been together for years this isn't that he's going to a new situation a new team with a new quarterback that he have to develop that same type of chemistry if you want to be successful with this team and he hasn't been out there due to these injuries in these things that we've that we've already mentioned so that's the part that kind of shocks me about all of this Antonio brown knows what it takes to compete at the highest level and to be successful and I think as of right now he's kind of taking a step back in that learning curve at least with the Oakland Raiders thing greater France including the one in my left and Jason fits a just because in their eyes and waiting for him to get on the field because when he gets on the feel great things can happen all the other stuff around it so we know Zeke's going to get a deal we know it certainly dak Prescott it's going to get a deal an antique holding out going to get the deal Melvin Gordon with the Chargers Victor two guys supposed to make five point six million this year is getting fined thirty grand today he can be find an actual regular season game check for missing preseason game so he can lose a lot of money if in fact they do accept the fines and it's a guy in my opinion Victor who is not going to win this so if your him or in his camp at what point do you have to draw that line and say you know what this isn't happening I don't have the leverage I need to get back I think you got to have a real conversation with yourself and your agents and your team and just understand where you are and have a real look in that mirror of where you are as an athlete where you are contractually and then have a meeting with your agent and say Hey what how realistic is it for me to get an extension our our new deal how realistic is it because I'm losing thirty granite bay here that I don't have it and that I'm banking on getting a new contract so that doesn't hurt me as much as it should so I think he just has to have that real conversation with himself and understand where he is individually at at and just figure out what it takes to be you know the the level of caliber player that he is is is next level and but he has to have that real conversation with himself and with his team to to put a date on when he can get back when he wants to get back and when he has the humble seven get back in their playful do you think that day to be now do you think you should be gone back I think you should be going back I think that the way this the the way his hold out is I I just think he doesn't have any leverage I I think the way he's going into this whole dot I think obviously the leverage is what he's done on the football field is compare bulls but in terms of the contract in terms of the way that the charges are looking at him I just don't think he has enough leverage to hold out throughout the season pictures of this Michelle Pennzoil performance I'm Victor the NFL just announced a partnership with Jay Z. and roc nation gonna collaborate certainly on the entertainment portion of the product Superbowl halftime shows some other music ventures but they also mentioned this idea of going out and doing work in the community like that we've seen the NFL starting to commit to a little bit more the social justice issues that come with the leave what did you make of it when you saw this in specifically that portion of it explained with the NFL and someone from the outside like JZ I love the I I think it's the perfect marriage between between two brands that can come together really get this thing right for the NFL and and come to speak the language of what's out there in the music industry in entertainment and nothing is going to take with the biggest thing is like social reform and different things that are kind of outside the scope of the NFL so that they can have someone that understands the culture of what the NFL live they understand the culture of the type of fans and people that watch the NFL and what they want to listen to what they want to hear and what they want to see the NFL doing in the community that makes people sit back and say Hey they're they're really work and they're figuring it out there not just sitting back and letting other people do it they're creating unions in partnerships with organizations and companies like roc nation that understand what it takes and what it and understand exactly how to shake things out and and put people in the right place for success and I think the NFL sees they see that in themselves they need someone to come in and help them with this and I think roc nation and Jay Z. specifically are the perfect part you guys can follow him on Twitter at team Vic Victor Cruz as always we appreciate your time and thanks for joining no longer thing from coming up next the.

"Figured it's, it's time that we kid kinda focus dedicate some hours to focusing on the National Football League. And you know what was done in the draft? What kind of season are you coming off from a year ago? What are your prospects going forward? Is this an all type season? Are you working with the new head coach are you establishing direction or has a direction already been established, and it's time to put up or shut up? You need to make the playoffs in the National Football League in order to preserve jobs, and I'm not I'm not saying age. I'm not saying the job of the head coach or the job of any particular player, I've talking multiple jobs, because we based decisions based on results and decisions are made not only based on results based on promise as well. And you could see how teams behave how they evaluate their own team. You know, if you make minimal adjustments. You'll one of two things is happening, you're either getting ready to unload, so that you can rebuild or you feel like you can go forward with the team. You have, and Bs competitive is you can be without maybe breaking the Bank to sign that free agent. And when it is time to break, the Bank, maybe it's time that you already. We have seen these things all play out for my hometown team. The Cleveland football Browns. We've not been relevant in a long time. And let's not treat them as a team as an organization that aids existed since stiking forty six for the sake of the state of the team. We are talking only recent history only and we cannot go back farther than when the Browns were expanded into the league in one thousand nine hundred nine there's really very little point in even going that far back. Let's just kind of focus on getting to where we're at right now. Cleveland Browns coming your way this hour. They'll have more than one television that were involved they'll have to the National Football League. They have proved it going with the colleges should not be stubborn. You can still keep a very good bowl season going for some of these teams on award, but are not good enough to play for the national championship. Yeah. It doesn't affect the bad. Boy mowers Gasparilla bowl of last night. "So it was great for a one off. It was absolutely enjoyable as a one off. But that's not the type of football. I wanna see weekend and week out. Okay. So follow up question to what you just said d think as everyone else's predicting this is the future of football in the National Football League. I don't think so because you have to have really good quarterback play. I mean, the one thing that was out there would you have Patrick Mahomes Jared Goff, arguably two of the best young quarterbacks in the National Football League one being of course, California, Berkeley graduate or law like myself Cal football in the house. You know, what I'm saying goading their style. You know, you know, the story bowl Ella bowl eligible. That's right. Boy, you notice story you have to have quarterbacks like that to play like that. And you have to have weapons all over the field. There aren't going to be too many teams that have quarterbacks light that with that complement of weapons, and you also have to have really bad defenses or in the field is well, those defense's, although they have really good playmakers on both sides of the ball Houston. You've got Aaron Donald you got Indomesia consume. You got deformed. You've got really good guys. Just don't have enough guys. But no, I don't think this is gonna be the NFL because I don't think everybody has teams that are built this way. But scoring we'll be at a premium, but not like this this was scoring on steroids. Yes. And I thought it was a little excessive for me for my place. I don't for thirteen ten games like the ravens and Steelers used to put out every single time. They played I like the. But I'll be at our games. You could see they could win yet. Do I feel like I mean after what happened to them in the same me that just doesn't happen to you? If you're a good team. If you're going to be a good team. You don't lose by forty one. I mean, can we name? I mean, maybe you go back to that patriot. Team lost you know, early in the lawyer Malloy game. But I think that's just a really bad signing a one of the things I kind of track. His what percent of your games where you did you wear to lewd, if I know more than one scores of a barometer to me and in recent years, you know, New England Seattle been amazing that you know, they they've gone long stretches where that just doesn't happen to them that happened to them. That happened to that Philly team, and I don't write about it. So Alex enough all you were talking. There have been two teams in the history in the modern history of the National Football League who've lost by forty points Anakena game and made is the Super Bowl the two thousand eight cardinals who lost by forty points. The patriots and the nineteen seventy dollars Cowboys. So it's been a high since that teeth thousand eight colonels Stephen granted, we're not asking, you know, we're not asking the eagles to make the Super Bowl. We're not expecting like the Super Bowl. "The internet, their role in. So we got some winners and they make fields our second one, but not for what you think this time. It's a little crush Brown John Dorsey. John Dorsey, how you doing buddy boy, playing in the National Football League is a blessing. It's a privilege, not many people get to do it. I mean, buddy boy, school stuff. Being a Cleveland Brown is way more than just playing football. It's about being enough. Not bad. Sure is a good idea. And also it's in a way that we normally don't see people that played that position do because they're so what responsibility to come with it and you still have to, as you mentioned have to be able to perform. But I think he has a little leeway because he understands he's not going to be the starter so well for them, they're trying to sell a culture. You can't star let the main live. That's what I'd like to say, okay, I you're up GM choose a lot of like like a cow. This is incredibly. Genyk sea lion that's making that picture better already was. Oh my gosh. Everyone's living my dream. I want to wrestle a. bear. I wanna see line and come to a picture with me. I wanna walk tiger. Does that. She do that with all people who come and take a picture. Wants a million one of those. These cute in the door at the sea. Lion does something we're like mad at the people, whatever. That's just how this works. If the sea line was to do something unexpected at that moment, and somebody was again something like that, then we'd be mad at the people. Why wouldn't I be. Harambee all over again. That was the whole thing. But my winter. This particular child just trying to say a very happy word. No happiness. No happiness..

"And then nine AM to noon out here on the left coast more and more training camps are getting set to open and more and more NFL story lines are bubbling to the surface after weeks and months of us talking about it and wondering how things would manifest themselves when team started to meet for training camp on then. Obviously, when pre. Season games begin to get played. We've got the hall of fame game that's gonna go down in canton, Ohio in nine days. That's correct. That's right around the corner cannot we as and then preseason action the week after that I spoke to, I'll say this a high ranking individual in the National Football League saying that that's kind of the soft deadline to figure out what's going on with the national anthem stuff. Really? Yeah. Okay. 'cause I'll tell you what. Players are going to get out on the field and that needs to be figured out before players get out on the field. And I'll say this here too. I, you know, last thing everybody needs is some guy that's never gonna play in the National Football League, but is the one hundred guy on a roster getting set to take the field because they're trying to put football games together doing something that the rest of the players in the league must own because he's technically a member of the NFL. So that needs to be ironed out. And then apparently something still needs to be honored out between the Atlanta Falcons in Julio Jones. To me. That's top story news right here. With all due respect to Kevin love, seemingly getting maxed out and Cleveland with all respect to.

"And complete assistance including hearing testimony if required to the management council which results in a in the finding evidence dish no violation of the policy by another player coach trainer or other person subject to this policy so basically they in the in the pd policy drawn up by the national football league in the nfl office is is that if a player snitch is on another player coach a trainer have you they could have their suspension reduced it's it's interesting because i think most people were on the stand or gray with everybody that's a wrong thing to do i guess but i think most of these players people would agree with this i think a lot of people i guess i did whatever i don't think anyone's gonna wanna snitch or rat out on someone just take your mind your own business and you know even if it's a lesser for you don't the me i don't think anyone's going to do that you know what i mean i any of these guys you know i just don't think that's happening yeah i i don't i don't think it's going to happen listen i don't i don't fault the nfl for putting that in place i agree it's carrot right right and money's money so i mean it's a case solve and we understand how short the nfl career is right and if you've got money coming your way and you're going to be missing game checks and everybody's life is different nobody's life is completely the same not everyone has the same amount of money in the bank when say pd suspension comes down whatever it might be you know you might have family whatever it might be that you have bills to pay the bills keep our role at and then all of a sudden you're looking at a months long of not having any income coming over to you right and that kind of money and you can't make up that kind of money it's not like you can go i'm just gonna go pick up a notch job you're not going to be making nfl money and picking up so i if the bills keep rolling in i believe you could call the credit card companies the mortgage they they want their money kid they don't give a darn so you could pay up early months and months dolan says nothing no yeah a little late and you have all right so i get why it's there in place piece it's a carrot right out there all right you want to help us out but you you you know you wash our back we'll watch you're gonna take care take care right so it's a cat do i think players will buy into that no i don't but i understand why the policies there yeah i do too i agree with you i mean i would think that gets us now possible do that this is something the nfl like the management council would wanna keep khanna quiet i would think because it's not a good look i think i would assume that a chunk of sports fans especially nfl fans would look at this i looked and no one's going to sit here and say okay we agree with pd's and do it i mean i'm probably a little my narrative has always been a little bit like it doesn't bother me as much as some other people but i don't think that most football fans would think it's a good policy to say hey you know wrap the sky out we'll take care of you pack thing you know what i mean i but you're right i see what the nfl is doing and i loved what you put it as a carrot and that's a good that's a good analogy well and here's the other thing though now moving forward now that is out there and it has been publicly debated and talked about and there's been a lot of conversation out there about it what player in their right mind right unless you're set established player yeah if you are saying the first or second year of your nfl career and your special teams guy nobody is ever should you get busted and decide to use pd's why would you ever do that because all of a sudden your first violation instead of getting four games you get to go then everybody in their mother's gonna know that you cooperated in writing somebody else out dude it's that's and that you get basically your career you blacklisted yeah your careers basically you're done you're done and you're what i going to.
