#54: Definitely, Maybe
To win in Massachusetts, trans activists have adopted a counterintuitive strategy: leaning into the worst things their opponents say about them. — Dee Rogers (she/her) is a volunteer for the Yes on 3 campaign in Massachusetts.— Kasey Suffredini (he/him) is a Yes on Three co-chair and president of strategy at the campaign's national parent organization, Freedom for All Americans.— David Broockman (he/him) is an assistant professor of political economy at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She hosts the series Kelly's Quest on the public access channel ActonTV. Keep Massachusetts Safe, the group seeking to repeal the state's public accommodations protections for transgender people, argues the existing law puts women at children at risk in places like public restrooms. However, a recent study by researchers at the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law found bathroom crime has not increased since these protections became law in 2016. Two on Tri: Sanchez Flores Right for Mexico?
Yeah. Some of the needle welcomed. Latest addition of two on three podcast, Gomez fashion. Ourself with you. It is November nine two thousand eighteen sweeps down have this. Our latest episode of the show we are now just about three months while pass three months actually, ten days past three months since one Carlos audio decided to step down as Mexico's national team manager hurt we still do not know who his follow predecessor. Yeah. We'll be you know, what's funny about this. You that you love God muscle Saudi so much you that you publicly apologized on international airwaves, which are no book that you also happen to have right now is one God also Saudi may have may get an international coaching job leave that coaching job and get another one before. Yes. Replaces them. It is wild. I feel soda got enough run on this show, but he did leave at the end of July July twenty seven I think is the exact date. So here we are almost one hundred days later man, and we still don't have a manager. There's some recent developments with Martina, and then some names that have popped up from your get to that. In a second are these hundred days wasted time for you. Because we talk about it not too often that tangible we talk about on the US side. It's been way more one hundred days a year. Correct. And you have or the federation do United States for wasting time. Do this is to me there's some nuance differences here by not hammer the Mexican federation you do on other. I'm just saying in this case, do you hear them in the same way for wasting time? You feel like we're not in essence not much for wasting time. But the manner of which they run things because these hundred days we've been told there have been over thirty interviews who are the interviews with. We've also been told my is not a candidate. What don't? Do you like about the thirty interviews that would suggest that they're going ahead by looking at a really diverse wide candidate Pawar who is candidate pool. Well, I mean, we've talked about before about and just having given us one name. They've had an interview with all we know is is blackballed. He's not an equation. Megan Loretta is not in question because he's been told us, but all of a sudden there's this shout that if Megan and grew many got win. Here's that carrot in front of you there, it is you may have a shot at the Mexican national team to Verity who wants to be chased the federation who didn't want to chase him. Now they want to chase him. It's too late. They practically begged him to take over as interim drink again gun. It put came in and vote gun executives. Because during this time there's been all these different variables where it makes. You seem like there is something there and then trails off there's nothing. So makes you wonder Louisa one hundred days what actually is going on. Who actually is running things is it was coming up with these list. We otherwise. For discount. Do we close? It. All these different variables coming about of who actually is pulling the strings, and why this is happening other actual options are being courted. If Marino really is a candidate for Mexico, and they really wanted when you've got Argentina Colombia in the mix. Well, you're never gonna get dot before MLS Cup or the end of Atlanta United States. That's the reality. Right. That's still up in the air that could end on Sunday, but hold on. What I'm trying to get at is. They think they have him. And all of a sudden, he's got other suitors. Well, and so I think. I think for me. That's it's hard for me to say that that the wasted time. I mean, three months is feels like a long time. But when you're when you're talking about the situation as it was all Saudi was planning, a let's be honest about that bringing him back was planning. They offered him the job. Right. So so when plant a fails, and you now have to open up to to plan B taking three months to a total search. That's fine. I think is. Reasonable. If you look at the cow, I feel gross. If you look at the call ups, there's a little rhyme or reason if that's really the way if what you're looking at shouldn't be calling the players go. If you're looking at these players, and what they offer for the future. Who do you want to be calling the players with an interim manager who would you have? It'd be honestly federate honestly, right now, I which I prefer if it was because he's got a better grasp sporting decisions than those guys over over those. Absolutely, absolutely. I don't know about that just because when you got into the youth level the other ones out of the game for so long. He was Indiana plan you yoursel saga. The other one just got the job to the twenty-seven years uninterrupted Mexican soccer. If anybody knows that landscape it is him. So there are a few in you're going to get to the list game. When you get to list, I'm going to tell you if you mainstays for Duca, what worries me aren't the mainstays is the players that. We haven't seen in these games. Don't matter. One hundred days doesn't matter if these three months don't matter we just playing everybody. Exactly anybody who's. You know, a work in heart being has a future with Mexican national team. It's interesting the list of players who've been called up for the next two games in Argentina has come out get to that in a little bit while stock about not going those guys aren't here. Many of them Europeans many of them. Big names. Some some controversy brewing there with some recent declarations from but as far as the searching coat as a coaching search goes. When you hear about it was okay? It's a done deal to be announced December eight and then the reports started coming in a dot does getting cold feet be Argentina has now ESPN Argentina our colleagues down. There have reported that the Argentine federation has been in constant contact with dot the Martino, maybe that's a part of the cold feet that he's feeling and then what happened was and Kika sumptious. Florida's is the most recent name didn't even mention Columbia for by the way. Yeah. Colombian United States and other open job. But obviously, we note that there hasn't been called for that, speak English. I speak English. Well enough when we know just interview on English speaking right to your face. There you go have this one. Oh, I don't speak English. Okay. There you go USF another story for another day. So once Totta has been knocked off this pedestal. We agree right. It was thought does job. And now it's like, well, maybe he's not sure there's two things that jumped out to me about that one. I wonder how much did the overwhelmingly negative reaction to his reported announcement right in very initial reports did that get back to him that way on him. We talked about it on the last episode of this show kind of the overwhelmingly negative on football on. And then beyond that something that we've kind of touched on previous episodes of this show is boy every time somebody says, no or gets cold feet just continue to come back to this. This job attractive? Not all that attract do because you hear all the reasons whether oh, well, I prefer this rapper for that. And we'll get into gets just Laura's and data is another name that has popped up since I got the cold feet. But everybody has a reason why that blows my mind and Julian limp, how out of touch is the federation where right after he fails with Madrid and granted Madrid if you ridge out, maybe it's the only time you get out of touch and also to how desperate are you? What you gotta go for that name recognition. Now. This is what gets me, and I'll answer your your Martino is the the second that they go after Kika Sanchez Florida's the second that happens. This comes up in my mind is that does not assure as they thought planning CD and skis on just rode his guy who has really been involved in a while who's very down her. He hasn't worked since April. Yeah, he's very down the depth chart. Everybody's list. What exactly are you going for who? Are you looking for? Because if you talked a lot of people. Yeah, he was he was let go out just kind of grasping for straws. And where's me about grasping hand is not the public reaction because we saw one Mexico job and the amount of negative attention behind. It was overwhelming just as much or maybe less than Martina. What what really worries me is who's calling the shots who's really pulling the strings here because John the lease Louisa, and he really thinks he has a shot of getting Julian limp deg or really thinks he has a shot of getting who's the biggest player guy in the market right now. Let's say if you could have butchered, Dino or these Bs exactly what he said. No. And that's how we got the. But then you gotta go. You gotta make public. This is why I want. So then the crowds behind you. If they make public and you don't get them. Listen man, we swung the fan. We swung. You went for it. But we didn't get it. And how you're going for Florida's. So you're making everybody really think. Wow. How incompetence federation how little interest is this job having the outside soccer world outside of Mexico almost as soon as the ESPN Argentina reports hit saying that Argentina was now interested in thought Don that maybe there were other suitors potential. You mentioned Columbia for his services that he was getting cold feet. The first name we heard was not Kika Sanchez. That's way. More recently. The first name we heard of kind of the plan. Let's say let's call it. See let's say soda was. A dot that was I don't think it's that linear. But let's say plan C was actually looked at daig and the response from. No. But was not reportedly was not no, I'm super interested in talk to me more. You know, what I'm going to take a break. I need a break, and you can understand it's been a rough year for taking that said though, then they talked to just Florida's and the early reports yesterday in one of our colleagues on one hundred almost on them. Now, it was it was a Geordie got from Spain. I'll get name here in seconds. The reporter who broke the news, right? And so he's like look there's supposedly going to have a meeting either today or tomorrow in London with you on that we saw maybe some other guys and. But such Motors says, look, I'm a club coach, my interest is the day to day work. That's what I want. It's like man every time they go to a person and they present the project. There's always a I need a break. I'm ready for rest. I prefer club thought. Maybe I have Argentina's. They're always not that attractive. You know, there's always something wrong with knives may never bride. Here's here's the issue with this. Is you look at the possible candidates could be out there in the outside outside of Latin amounts of Mexico. I should say people see this job as a step down. And the only reason they would wanna take this job. If you're a foreign coach is because you're going to go to a World Cup and money and money. They've promised to pay a lot more thought does been rumored what they'd offer to move to make the highest paid Mexican coach ever we're talking net versus gross. But that's all it is. It's the carrot dangling is the World Cup and in the money the money, but in the eyes of many around the. World. It's a step down. And it's a lose lose situation. Right. You're going into a situation with a ton of pressure ernal pressure. Right. But that's the pressure. You face every day. Unless you're Arnold society. Doesn't live in the country. No. But but but beyond that pressure. You also have the reality that Mexico's not a global power Mexico is not is not a team that has players in the club's the big Manchester City's PS jeez. The clogged classified him as the as Barscelona Madrid. You've actually have those next doesn't have that sees then th about another colleague of ours. We worked with the World Cup basically through his contacts at the federation Knicks tag rumors almost straight away. Yeah. I think I think that the Florida's a guy who I think is a little bit more really wanna say interesting because he's not that interesting, but it's a resume. We're diving into it is it's not the sexy pick by any means. I spoke to our colleague here at ESPN, Alex Monica who is Spanish August world soccer. And I was asking about the type of coach that geek Assange is from Barcelona. Yes. So Espanyol is is right. Yes. He knows it. Well, and he was saying that he's one of these. Coaches that prioritizes from the back. I there defensively sound he's not confrontational. So to speak. He's not a buck him with the press. But he is a guy who speaks his mind, and he likes things to be fair. And just many times they are not when it comes to the Mexican press. He says the mecca federation or the federation says he will. It'd be known if he sees injustice around him, then he's not going to get the job. If he does break out your popcorn got your proper because he's been known to have those moments. I let back Obama's but not as controversial. He last managed on y'all to the end the last season, basically, April before that he was at watt furred Benfica's bit Benfica he won Europa league without that Madrid him and then during this kind of the jewel of his resume, but his last three stops head off it wad furred Espanol. He's basically one of now those aren't big teams, but he's basically one third of his games winning percentage. Those three stops thirty three thirty five rain granted the pool he's swimming in a lot deeper over there. And then would be so aside from. Geeky Sanchez again got who should notice has no international experience. I mean, you look at his resumes. Got a lot of good clubs there. He's got no international experience. Does that resume? Do you like that resume or or does it have holes in it for you has lots of holes? Yeah. He's never managed the national team. He's never been parked in. What is the Latin American press? He has a certain. Way of working and some of those methods won't be well received here, not just with the press. But with the federation, you know, how it is in Mexican soccer. You can't just call you want. There has to be a reason behind it. But has to be on board. The federation takes very seriously. There are a lot of holes. If you ask me you need a coach as well season. Now funk wasn't that? He was almost Kika Sanchez, Florida if you think about and he had that same exact resume coaching club. He had maybe a brief stint in Mexican soccer with that. But he coached in Latin American soccer. And that's what he knew he was a club soccer coach, and they gave an opportunity was to be national team coach. And there were win percentage was among the highest in its history. I know didn't get to that final fifth game win percentage of the national team level is a lot of games that don't mean any correct. So I think it's worth pointing out that the other thing about the resume is like it's you compared it to Saudi Saudi was club. But it was Latin American club. It was not European club outside of. A few years at Manchester City visible trainers trainer. This club resume to me people at this point, if Deka son just Florida's who the federation has is going to settle on. Let's hypothetically are we overvaluing and for those who can't see this putting in Europe like the value of Europe. I mean, I get it. It's all your, but it's cutoff it what for Espanyol. Those are the last three stops should a guy who's been at those clubs really be a leading candidate for the Mexican national team. Why would he have really quickly? You feel me? I mean like, I get it. It's europe. But at Mexico world's level World Cups, just at least is mid table. And the bottom of that midtable. It's on the other side of that mid table. When you talk about results, you can say whatever you want. They've got him to straight seven straight second next round, knockout games, or whatever. But the bottom half of that midtable half the teams make it to the second round from there. Who goes on? They don't go on. So that's what they are. That's their bar. So they're BAFTA if that yeah. I don't know because I don't think it's just World Cups. Right. There's other tournaments. They're they're they're not will on their better. What in the second division? Okay. I just think sometimes we look at these like European resumes is different because remedied in Spain. But like Kika SunTrust voters to me is a very hidden do for you. He's a middling European man. Here's a problem. He's one of these games at teams that are not like what names on the market for you right now. And I'll tell you why they won't take the Mexican. No. I know I again, it comes back to the gala. This is not really attractive job for anybody outside of Mexico. I don't know what's going to happen with Mexican nationals. If it's not that much. He's the only named me right now that makes me getting getting knows that ain't gonna have it. And they don't want it. I think that that has a good grasp of of this landscape already. He's coaching in Atlanta. They got the same players league scout they go for he's he was already keeping his eye on what was Congo champions for this come up coming seasons. So he's got a good grasp what Mexican soccer is about. And you live in Atlanta in that population with league, it's been the most popular league in the United States bound to watch some games. Sure. And if he doesn't he can hire staff and within six months, they can be caught up to speed all this stuff is reality is all want more of the same. You want different idea? That's what I've been preaching from jump. That's why even when I take a shot at the resume of Kika sumptious slowed as well. It's a different guy. It's guy who isn't from Mexican. It doesn't give you the sense or the sensation. Oh my gosh. Handling j settling vibe with this. But oftentimes when that just because you feel when a guy's hired like you're settling doesn't mean that back. I can't do what good job, right? I think we have to keep that stuff in mind. So then we get to well what's next for the actual team. We got the names we've got the list who's calling this group is at somebody thinking about who the next coach is going to be real quick on that front, then he stick Lhasa whose name who we've touched on here. And they're both in this podcast and on Maxon hurt. He's now rumored to potentially be on his way out could be now if you throw that into this mess of a situation where the national team has gone from a to a decent plan b if your plan B two now. Oh god. We don't have. Now, we're like planned see grasping at straws. And now one of the guys in theory in charge of that process. Then he's about to step out. Oh my God. This to me this could expect them out out. And I don't even know that then he's says that critical to the search. I don't know there's not gun through or Toronto, we're running it. But the idea of one of the three names that we know who has been named. I believe we saw when he names guys stepping out of that at this moment is a real concern for me. I wonder if you felt the same when you saw that do from that would be the term. He's very sought after for not only within league max. Now, the rumors MLS majorly Aleksey. Yeah. That'd be huge huge play by the galaxy. This is a man who knows it landscape. Very well. He's a very good recruiter sees talent differently and very instrumental to what is FM F, and what they are trying to build for the future. So you're right. It would be a big disappointment for all involved. Let's get to the list. Then before we go name names. Just ask you saw the group as you saw it come in. Was there anything about the team overall that jumped out to you? Yeah. The twelve players who constantly have been called in by the members making this list. I won't assume it's not, but they're having those rumors. Dotto or the close AO can't do to be. Is there any chances a group effort? I mean, like is it crazy for me to suggest that that there's multiple guys would be. But if that's the case that wouldn't be the word. I'd be worried. I'd be worried let's go with twelve players who often called in Yala. It's another buddies a guy though chocolate or Regis, San willow at the aga-. What about other Portugal's man, Deoras goodie even attic, Shuki, Lozano and human those twelve having constantly called in for what have been the call by Duke, affinity, or under these tenure? So that leads me to be worried just a bit. If what you're looking for is the future. If what you're looking for some guys on that list aren't the future. Forget about the guys who are in this twelve hundred the future. But the names who didn't make it this go around or than last here goes goes campaign for boy, he's saying you boy, but he is one of them. I know what you would sing is one of them. But then you also have Lexi's Vega. He's the one that's getting the most talked about right now as a snub Alexa, Vega. Okay. You have. Nobody swaying. You right there really send you who. Plays into the Portuguese league and is planning for fitness and one of the best defensive teams in the league. He's a mainstay on that club. He's been one coach buy Duke, affinity, okay? And two he went out on a free transfer to the Portuguese league Mexican clubs like it. When you go out on a free being made an example of don't knows him because he played for them. No. Are you saying between Duca can too? There's the close it. And what is though too? Seniors that on your list. Twenty four years old. I believe meanwhile, anybody else who takes a trip to Europe gets a call and Gulu is playing as a left played as a centre back, and he's left back in very badly. At that at the doesn't even play for Santos right now. It's just there where you always wins. Yes. If Lampe lead over Alexis Vaga is really thing right now, what are you doing to build for this future? There are a lot of things that don't make sense of the employees. What we'll say is a red flag that he's not there. Yeah. I mean, when you think about the way in which you know, we'll get into this a little beyond the moon. The captain of the u seventeen team that brought you a world championship on your home soil. But if you think about an and we've seen this actually, it's a different situation, but maybe a little bit not all that different from the situation when when players are faced up against them anomaly that is the league and the way that the buckle that got affects the lack of free agency. They're free. Agency. And you've talked about this before your free agency is abroad. The only your only way out is to go abroad. So a guy who was an asset of this and said, I'm glad to let this expire. You get nothing. I go abroad get paid more. I don't know that he's getting pay more on the economics of it. But that's a pay cut for the upper to play in that league gladly did it and killing. Yeah. So I think I think there's some some interesting potential there for controversy happens. All the time we've seen it. We with Don, you're the brother may he rest in peace of mind. But I will when he comes back and he wants to go play. They have to negotiate with cheese. Even though he was on a free. We see this all the time when it happens. If you betray the system the system does which is which is very very amusing. To me at this point in time didn't Moi's Munoz as head of the player in Seattle in a press. Release representing the players association come out almost arm-in-arm with the federation officials say we've radically ios was last season week thirteen and now and now all these things are going on. What is going on? Yeah. Tell it to officer. Right. We'll get into that. Well, get into that a little bit later on. So one of the names that you mentioned that just jumps out to me Julio. What am I missing? Like why why is he getting called in the only thing? I can think of is Chiba is a team that has pulled a lot of pool carries a lot of weights. So this roster is basically like, oh, nobody saying ration-, listen to what I'm gonna listen L police because cheetahs once initially I'm going to say, and you tell me what you think there are two names on this list that make me feel the Mexican federation and the Mexican national team are helping these two players move. One of the land polio. She was wants to sell them. What's the best way to sell them? Shoko them showcasing Monaco five yon mile. I guess the only one case because everybody thinks he's injured. How can we show the world? He's not interested. We can move him. So he can be sold to a better club or a bigger club or any club. Showcase them. Yeah. It's. I don't know if I be unto me is is a higher caliber player than bullied, it's fine. There was a club in Turkey to said he he physically wasn't able to perform that he's interested. What's the best way to help this out right now play get them on? But back the police. I mean, this this is to me a guy who's just not at the level anymore. How many more chances are you gonna give this guy when we talk about on Alexa, Vega who's twenty years old plan for Luca? Look he's twenty this is his fourth season. I mean, not hasn't burst onto the breakthrough last season. He missed all of it because of a tornado. But I'm saying like he's been around a while you've known about this kid for a while here. He is twenty years old. Now, we scoring as you say we're in this. There's no rhyme or reason to this. Let's get guys look injuring a drought. What allowed is I've seen it enough. I don't know what I know what as through nine. He isn't a finisher. Well, so why not get finisher? Well, let me try to find. Because because if you want somebody who hinted out who generates that football that action. That's why that. Why might go Janas there? That's why potentially you could Giovanni or goes mon- or. You know, who else would you think of in that position? Non this from a white position. Sure. But this is what I'm saying. So we got go to list of the Gallos. There are some Europeans here guys. Remember last time, we talked about this. There was almost a total absence of European-based players here. We've got an older human is. That's not really, right. That's not a surprise memo. Joa is backed me Eunice back one of the names that I think we thought was kind of at the around as one of the four at the center of the beef between federation or saw and kind of Mexican national senior team players. So those two guys going back to me says, oh, well, maybe maybe some of that beef is fixed. But there are other names that aren't there on this one? Now, he's coming off an injury. You can understand why he'd want to stick around bet think he played yesterday against who has it in Europa league Milan. One of those teams. Sure, they beat Milan. Yeah. Producer Tim sorry. Our producer laws, but I think he got into this up. So he's getting back to health. You can kind of write that one off Cheech anything you could almost say the same about until I yes, right? Has had this virus? Now back at West Ham's goals trying to maintain his spot. But then we get this interview from Sogeti with. A former teammate of yours. Mark gross. Yeah. And he basically says I've always thought about stepping away from the team in every phase phase of my of my career, which I think my God it's been in the back of his head either. How delicate is or how horrible must it be to play for the national team that this guy's always thought about stepping away. That's when I I saw that. I thought both those things. Yeah. In that way. And then he goes on to say, even now I'm currently thinking almost not threatening threatening wrong word they used it in on the graphics on Saturday had less threat posturing for sure teasing almost like teasing like he might hinting like he might maybe walkaway. What's it gonna be thirty four at the next World Cup? If you will be twenty nine I believe. Yeah. But remember to December world thirty four. I think he's gonna be thirty four. Thirty four he'll be thirty four. So here's this guy. Who's who's a legend the all time leading goal score for sure. Yeah. And he seems to be saying. Kind of good that doesn't bother you. So two things that I immediately thought of when I didn't see his name on the list. Okay. Besides this quote to both those things the first is here's a player who's playing not regulate for West Ham. Right. And when you're at that stage of your career, and you think you've done it all with the national team, Mike how much better can it get for him on the Nash team level? Well, he realistically play another World Cup. Maybe maybe not well he'd be at his highest level. No, no, he won't. So every time you go to a national team game. You're missing out on the opportunity for fight to fight for a spot in your day to day job and West Ham. He's not playing he's not the man or not which is man. He's not the goal score. That's all he's ever been a goal score. He's not there. So say no to Mexican national team and actually trying to win a spot for me in a team that you haven't gonna opportunities because of illness or injury. What maybe is a smart thing to do. Now. When I hear this comment. You know, what this tells me, you don't appreciate me? You do not appreciate. Me and Siam the leading goalscorer of my national team. I have played in three world on let me flowers at the finish. I've scored in three different World Cups who doesn't appreciate him. Let me finish. I've scored in three different World Cups. I've played in Europe for teams like Man United basically for Madrid West Ham Leverkusen, I play in the Champions League final. I've I've won a Premier League. And you call me a throne. You don't value who I am other countries. They would revere me. He feels slighted. He doesn't see the benefit or the plus of wearing that jersey anymore in my mind. This is what he's telling me. You know, what if I walk away from it? It's it doesn't matter. What you think any more? I want to be happy, and I'm not happy sometimes with you. So it's doesn't either. This election anymore. No, I think it's I think it's more who needs each other more. I think study more than thirty six young. Yeah. I think this needs to more but not for on the field for marketing. I don't I don't think the federal day. If today there was a must-win game okay today. But I think the reality is there's not, and there's what the other thing is said it they need for the marketing when they complain the US is going to be like, wait a second. Where's my take on ios? Yeah. I don't want believe in you understand you fill in that stadium. And he understands this. This is why he was one of those four five flares center of this F B because they want to improve their working conditions. They want a respectable collective bargaining agreement like any other country like any of the players association, and they wanna cut because the Mexican federation and its long pants owners. They are stealing this money. You said that and I don't know if we've set it on this pod. But just very quickly. What you made as a as an international plan for the US. If it was a top ten country people rankings more Mexico or World Cup qualifier. Even if it was Cuba, all all due respect to Cuba, and you won. It was sixteen four sixteen thousand four hundred dollars. If you tied. It was eight six and if you lost it was four four, and what are the Mexican players get the last you heard win draw or lose? They get two thousand dollars two thousand dollars. They don't get they do an enormous amount of marketing commercialization of what be on the other side extra football. They don't get a dime on that. So basically what's happening here is for the longest time that what you got to play for the shirt has been there payment. Basically the federation said okay can't want eat though. No. We're giving are you playing what a great opportunity Jovi Morale's, even giving you two thousand and that what do you care, you're a millionaire millions by your what do you care? The abuse me the money in some way, the abuses of the federation are coming home to roost as these players get more and more and more power, and frankly, more and more money right now, I am not saying give these they're money hungry money, hungry players who only greedy and think for themselves. But if you were putting that work, and you saw what you were drawing in interest. And when you were receiving who who was receiving it, wouldn't you also be like hold on a second little just proportioned here is the only way for these veteran leaders to fight this to step away from the national team. Is there not a cleaner way to do this to get to a threatening retirement? You know, what the ironic thing is. Them fighting this the way, they have they're not gonna be the ones reaping the rewards, right? Yeah. At this point, these guys are gonna be around, you know, who's gonna run another where he's thirty nine. So you're so high on you know. At the I unglue all these players. They're going to be the ones reading the words as it should be. Do you think there's a chance, you know, we talk about? Boy, everybody send your being blackballed. Do you think there's a chance that the federation might say? All right. These guys wanna play this game. We're looking at the math here. I if I can pull up dried they had gone to pull up and say, the thirty four thirty three thirty to thirty five these aren't gonna be around to hell with them. They tried. They're trying they've tried. They've done it. But here's a difference. Why won't it work? Hold on. So far in the eyes of many. They think it's working. Here's a difference those games, excuse me. But they've been all outside the United States, right? Once they're in the United States. What some then you got on a second. You got stadium and you've got to build a stadium now marketing dollars because Banamex because all these other companies hold on a second. I pay June advance for my my youn-, my Reta, my Modano. You know, why I want mature they need to smile? I wanna see that hairdo. Right. This is what it is to business. Yeah. I think it's going to be very interesting to see how this plays out and not necessarily on like a who's right or? Wrong basis, but but almost on negotiation like back and forth battle who sticks to their guns. The most because at the end of the day like what's those ultimate play to kind of what's got lose. What's he got to his image? Angrily retiring from the national team is not as it angrily retiring in the eyes of many, or is it you think you think the Mexican public is going to is going to take well to a guy turning avatar. How that does he care? I don't know. I doesn't Vela practically announced he's retirement the Mexican national team ESPN he said, it's time for others. There are others who can fulfill this moment, I am not one of them. Right. But you go back to the early parts of cardinals Venice career when he turned on the national team the things they said about him in Mexico air, the I don't know who maybe. More than soccer didn't care. I don't know that she those Carlos. I don't know that under swatted others. Carlos all these guys to go out. Like me ask you the question. Besides the money factor. Why all these foreign based Mexican national players choose to go to MLS before the Yankees, besides the money quality of life. They're not harassed by the media. There you go. All right, cool. The only other thing that I think is worth bringing up here because I know we got to wrap this thing up unless you got something else jeering else. Don't you? We're gonna talk about the news and you use the big news. If you've been following along on ESPN, the this you've certainly heard this or view, if you follow our friend, Tom Marshall, I think he's been tweeting some articles about it as well. A couple days ago. Members of cough essay, which is the that. The competency economic. I don't need to really translate that for you bet din. Competition Economica economic competition. Rayed? It is too strong of a word, but showed up both at gruza soon and go up at the headquarters of Mexicans it. Really? That's wrong word exactly what they did over the facilities. Okay. I didn't know that. It was so much of a raid. But if you want to call it or made that's fine right raid. So they go to to the base clubs in Mexico in Mexico City, and they're supposedly there to inquire about monopolistic tactics, and this is based off of kind of irregular activity during recent transfer window. So let's just look at the words here and see we can piece some things together. This is by the way, we don't know exactly what they're investigating. No. Let's speculate. What I like to do. Economic competition. K. Where is economic in what atmosphere is economic competition? Most compromise in a monopoly. What is one of the most obvious symptoms of a monopoly collusion? Okay. What is the thing that we have always talked about it's open collusion in Mexican soccer. That would be the gentleman's back back though that got a. Yeah does. And so it would seem to be mentioned early in the show, the the the poor decision all this robbing rotting from the player sucking off more than they may be earned the federation from from from this this great pool of money not giving enough to the players to keep them happy. That's come home to roost now is a players become more powerful. But I thought this was already radical thought week thirteen last season. When y'all said we've done it. We are not going to strike we've eliminated gentlemen's back where it was playing at the time was he playing where? Was he at the time? It was a number three. I believe Boya. Okay. So he's playing in Mexico. So you're going to tell me then you can be on behalf of the players association for Mexico for the players. Yeah. Wow. Who I listen to when it comes to players about MC, what's really happening in Mexico guys weren't in Mexico anymore. You mean like the national team can correct me if I'm wrong, did you guys see one one European-based or foreign based Mexican national team player tweets Facebook, Instagram, any type of message of moral support after Moines you said that now it'd been radically did radio silence. Yep. I think Muna's was on the wrong side and probably in a position where he had no choice. Oh, come on. We let if you're gonna spec. Don't don't speculate one. But if you're gonna speculate, at least at least say, okay, nothing was done. They gave you on a letter as say sure, but why do they make moon? You'll be the guy to go up there and Perret. That's his decision. You ask him. Well, fuck their economic factors that I think would drive somebody to do something like that. It's pretty obvious. I think this is important because we have discussed on many times how the big business of Mexican soccer. While it should help the game grow actually in so many instances ends up hurting specifically the Mexican player, which then we know has an impact on on the Mexican national team, though, that might be in many ways the most obvious way. Yes. The draft at buck though in which that implementing layers. Yes, you're treated like a product, I myself main no offense inhumane is a strong word your soccer player. Now. It's inhumane humane to go to the draft and see players in a hotel lobby begging for work beg for work all over this world. That's not in q they televise it. It's not an Hugh. They televise it for the world to see do. They talk about it on the nightly. You know, you every night you're drafting over there. You know, you're gonna find anybody more pro labor pro player than me. But how I mean, you have no free will of what what your future is. You can find out if you're going to a different club via Twitter. That's how these players find out. I think the biggest way in which it look opportunities and. Your career. I think is a perfect example this every opportunity to move to a team was not just a raise. It was an opportunity grow from a football standpoint. You know, what I had that these players didn't have you gotta molest. I had the US passport ability to go outside these players only have the Mexican league. And maybe that's why you moved so freely. But maybe the point is this every time you get a jump to any level it benefits you as a player sometimes it should benefit Audrey on the right right in theory. So then when you when you somehow stifle that ability for guys to jump to our stifling the player fleeing the football. I give you a quick example. And of another way is there's a player I won't name him. But he was at a club one that I used to play for and he was trying to renegotiate his contract. They couldn't agree to terms on the yearly salary. So the club said we'll tell you what. Stay current salary. And when you leave we'll give you forty percents of the transfer. That sounds like a another year. Okay. I'll do that goes to a different club. They still don't announce his signing wise. This all of a sudden there is eight what's the where do you like to use in ruins with the transfer? It appears that this club is value is valuing me as a player for one hundred thousand dollars. And this other club is agreeing to that trait of the evaluation and that cell, so all I'm going to get that forty percents. So he gave everything else for this opportunity. These are different ways that in a way, it's almost like they hundred the money right there, washing the money, right? And I just to kind of really break it down. This is the statement from professor the federal commission of economic competition. Had that Goths had knowledge that drive from the possible realization of illegal monopolistic practices. In direct conflict with article fifty three of the law of the federal economic competition commission. I mean illegal monopolistic practices. It's hard to think of anything else. At first I thought maybe they'll look on those because that's been going around lately. And that and that should be huge concern for us end up more taxes IRS exactly for the IRS the domestic iris down in Mexico. Not for they're losing out. A lot of things jumped out what it could possibly. But this is it. And if this is it, and here's the main question circle around the Mexican presses who's the whistle blower because all the owner the presidents of the teams got together, and it got city immediately after and the one question amongst them was who's the whistle blow who's the one because to prove that you're in collusion to prove that something is unwritten actually happens there has to be a whistle blower. So who actually because this has been known in circles. I don't know how we talk about openly on television radio. It's gotta secret. Mexican I've had Mexican ownership. Bruce, tell me you can't go there. We tell you where to go does. Yeah. This is this is the worst kept secret on earth. So why is there whistle blower? Why do you do? Do you think the whistlers the federation or as a guy who was all over his body? They think it's somebody within those groups what would the motivation be there? I'm struggling to see it. Why would you? Why would you like speculating, right? Yeah. Right last who's a loss who's the last Mexican owner to be in the news in for the wrong reasons. Cruise cooling and they want him out. Yeah. They want him out battle. You think this is this is the domino? This is the beginning of that. Domino. You think he's the whistle blower. You think he's just pissed that they're trying to get them out. And he's able to blow up the whole bridging theories. That's my theory. Okay. I don't hate it. As Nick on the who was I think at groups assume that day showed up, and then it became kinda his stories on a wonderful job reporting. It see point out there many ways that coffee can start an investigation. It can also come from an outside complaint. In theory. You could suggest that the players or player. Eight of lawyers representing the players have been arming a case for while. Because the report this investigation apparently began June twenty nine that's a long time ago. You know, what surprised me if that's the case or this who is the president of the players association. He's he's the the the X player who helps these players out in the players association. Note to his knowledge. No knowledge of this investigation being Spar started. They'd never come up to him and asked him. So it strikes me as odd as well. Wouldn't if you work festive wouldn't you want to get the players on your side immediately yet. I think I think the Roosters I think they're coming home. Yeah. I think this is look Mexico. The businessmen of Mexican football had been very successful at making money, but they have done so in if not illegal. Extremely at times eighty shady immoral practices. However, you wanna word at some point you're gonna get caught. And this isn't affect league Menkes Mexican national trickles down to we possibly seeing that right now with with send you a CVA say, I mean, there you go we saw with a lump Alito we've seen it so many different times with Mexican Ashley players how they get affected because of the buckle. We always wondered how would back though does finally come undone. It was never going to be the players and the owners getting together and smiling it was going to have to come from above. It was going to have to come from somebody with real serious weight. And here's that real serious way. They can hand out a ten year prison sentence for these type of practice maximum worst-case era. I'm not saying that anybody's going to jail for ten years. But that's the world that that bucked yet has landed these owners in. So there is real scene. I feel like that's the messy and Cruciani. See jail time. They're gonna end up paying a fine type of thing. Here's the thing. It's what type of fine you're going to pay. And that's where it hurts. These owners. You know, what I I don't care about the fine. I wanna know that it stopped. And I wanna know that after they pay the fine, go facet or whoever. Whoever's is overseeing this is on top of it on a way where that practice is truly radical. And here's the problem with a country like Mexico, just so beautiful. And it's people are deserve so much better is corruption is deeply rooted. So for it to be really erotic aided for it to be really one hundred percent gun. I'm not buying it. Yeah. So you end up happening really turn to the federal government solve your problems going to happen Mexico. They're going to turn over to the neighbor north. How did you get around this? Oh, we had him signed waivers of the pro rights. We gave him a restricted free agency. Whether it be twenty eight years old, blah, blah, blah. This is how they're gonna get free agents. There you go. That's how they're gonna get LS fake free agency. Well, it remains to be seen how this plays out. But it could have I think if not overwhelming at least serious ramifications for the future, maybe not the national team directly, but the Mexican footballer, and that's who makes really quickly before we in this. You would think all teams would be against eliminated by ITO, but it actually hinders the big clubs. It actually makes it more difficult for them to get players. They want. Teams actually want. The buck though are the small clubs the bottom feeders who need this to get a cell over over players. They want to sell to bigger clubs to hold it against those bigger clubs because then they won't be able to compete and really hold it against the player. Yes. But if Medica or Chiba today wanted to player that was out of contract, and before it was very difficult to get this player because the prices were too high not player weights out his contract, then you can have me. And then all that money. You're going to give to them give me a chunk of that interesting to see where it goes. That's all the time. We've got you know, you have fourteen more shows to today.
