"You know if we have to wear a mask and do all this For a regular game. Then what's the point of bringing all start getting back? But obviously, you know, money makes the world go around so It is what it is, but I'm not really worried about it. So earlier this week, it was reported that the MBA in the National Basketball Players Association, they were working toward an agreement for the All Star Game to be on March 7th that state for Marina in Atlanta. The bronze. Not happy about it Ya honest last night, said he doesn't care about the game. So, Robin, Is it stupid to hold the All Star game this season? Mm. No, I wouldn't go that far. Look Any time you're dealing with the current circumstances, I said before, there's no Perfect solution. If you wanted to avoid the All Star game out of caution, understood if you wanted to avoid the All Star game to give players of break more than understood, and I think In fact, the frustration you're hearing for most of the players I've heard it from is Maura about the break aspect in the pandemic. Fox just reference the pandemic specifically LeBron Talked about it when he made his comments, but it was sort of the secondary topic he had talked about, you know, expecting a break at that time. The quick turnaround on this season s O Yonas Discuss the breakup of Chris Paul is the president of the Players Association say It's a time where guys get to see their families when they don't a lot of the season, so I think Most of the frustration. To be honest with you is coming from star players who are you know, we're expecting that break. They were told there wasn't gonna be an all Star breaker. They assumed there was gonna be an All Star break. They're playing a condensed schedule, and particularly in like LeBron's case, there was such a quick turnaround that I get that frustration. Obviously. There, you know is the same safety risk that you have. For Every other game, and it's thrown into another level, perhaps with the number of players who would be there and in Atlanta in any gatherings and everything like that. What the MBA does have a set of protocols in place They are already conducting this season, and Chris Paul had said in the negotiation. Remember, the players agreed to this. If it gets done, it's not happening without the agreement, the players union Said. He has to look after the entire group of the league, and the league is not just made up of star players and whatever revenue that comes in from the All Star Game, whether that's from TV partners your sponsors or what have you That gets split with the players so there could be a big financial incentive for the quote unquote rank and file players in the MBA. Personally, I'm a fan of the All Star.

families decided it's probably not a good idea let's do all we can to put your call Barnes all they don't need as much beer now okay probably it is let's get us yeah we figured let's try to do what we can all of us to stop the spread in that that we we don't get to eat something drastic right what that did we want to live to get back to normal as soon as possible maybe sports will be back before me one if we all kind of contribute now at least that's the whole you'd rather self quarantine that be ordered to be quarantine correct and stay in your house and martial law and all of a sudden on the streets and yeah you know what's the last thing we need and in our population is one out of five times that of Italy's now we're also in a much bigger air land you know why is a much bigger country maybe that's contributing to the spread of land wise not as big sixty million people you know elite Sir I don't have surprising or not Italy has routinely one of the world's best ranked healthcare systems how do they and this is still totally raps on them I wrote this down it's because it's just stunning Freddie Freddie's in for your by the way in Italy on February twentieth guys that's three weeks ago yesterday okay do you know many confirmed cases of coronavirus there were now this can be deceiving I get it because we're talking about confirmed cases in that was the beginning of things but one fifty four four okay do you know how many confirmed cases of coronavirus there are in Italy today and today is March today's March eighth three weeks ago yesterday to today they went from four confirmed cases to more than fifteen thousand Jesus in three weeks is it is it because of the kissing on both cheeks maybe that's not bad I'm not kidding that's how they greet each other German women drop the ball they put their hands on your face and they kiss both cheeks I mean maybe it all that is A. three hundred and seventy five thousand percent increase man I get the stock market right the numbers are probably sell off to some degree because they were talking about what was confirmed but right never forget what they know what they were for cases three weeks ago there's fifteen thousand out we're going to be over two thousand in this country by the end of the day if we're not already we might be built I still like under thirty and thirty I think Illinois so if we all kind of kids we were doing a better job than other places I don't I don't have to ask how many people have actually been tested at that concert in this country the number's gonna be tough because the testing has been so bad we're we're behind insult let's all right do what we can to try to stop the spread of it because we want life to get back to normal if your is it awesome more to come back we want our kids in school for crying a lot for a lot of reasons yeah my god is you don't want to teach them exactly you did all that are already you went to your school this is for a major in larger owski will get back to the phones in a second here any correspondence to players addressing the uncertainty surrounding the NBA's indefinite suspension of play the national basketball Players Association on Friday spelled out terms on a doomsday provision including in the collective bargaining agreement included excuse me in the collective bargaining agreement that could free owners from paying players a percentage of their salaries should the rest of the season be lost to the corona virus pandemic the CBA includes a clause called the force majeure I had to help us in that you know what that is that all but I I read it I think I know what it is I know what that is we need our lawyers right now but I force majeure events that includes multiple dramatic scenarios including epidemics that the week could trigger in the event of a worst case scenario other instances that could trigger the clause include natural disasters and war the next scheduled paycheck for players comes on Sunday and those will be filled share that would make sense imagine to get to a point where the season is canceled this or not paying a percentage salary well I mean if you're an older you would say what now we want them to take care of these an hourly employees right Brian James a little different yeah I like I I might get it right but we're here telling the owners Hey listen do the right thing everybody is the right thing to pay these players regardless or are they do they have a legitimate out I think they have this please I mean if your daughter would you think that was a legitimate out yeah we're not talking about we're not playing games with you we're not talking about fifteen Bucks an hour looking about is you're not hurt there's no games going on you know what to do do NBA players only get paid during the season I would imagine I would I mean I don't know all season I don't know that you do have the option like some of the there's like some teachers and some places I don't know if it's still that this way but I used to be you could be paid the school year or you could extend if to be paid twelve months this are you extend your salary a little bit longer the story that I I always I don't think all the gets paid during the baseball season I believe most too I mean I know that basketball players used to at least certainly when I cover the league they got paid in the season and that's that led to the famous story of run our task going to Best Buy to get a job I think the right problem okay tell the story before Ron went through his entire rookie salary by the summer run had no money left to went through about two point nine million dollars whatever it was that's tough to do tough to do a TV show and had a lot of bad people around ray's life Lotta hangers on and stuff like that and he went through his money he had no he didn't realize he wasn't going to get paid so many offices armor that's right when he went through his money wasn't getting paid he went to Best Buy in Deerfield any applied for a job and this is a true story a blue shirt yes he's a blue shirt they sold through that someone at Best Buy called the bulls because he put the ball down as a reference they don't know who run our test was they were checking on his previous employment and the bulls front office that they were making it visible somebody's gagging you here because this is the right one of our players yeah I know he came in he filled out an application to work you wonder the paycheck and a discount on the ICO are told that story I wonder if you ever run as ever he's a little bit of a flaky guy I used to tell that story I first told that story years over twenty years ago I don't know what would have been that would been two thousand one I get okay I told the story maybe or so afterwards when it was just me and still be at night you know I don't know maybe thirty guys listen Sam Smith like three years later when I'm Tony Kornheiser show until it started and it blew up and everybody started talking about that story and still be sick so we don't believe it I said Ono yeah yeah fine fine for a job you know it that reminds me of is about the north brook area what's the PF Changs is up there north per court drive and was the bulls player that went missing from practice ten years ago that was this was it someone went missing from practice the bulls in know who who what who where he was and at the time I was working at the apple store north for court and I just saw that person and then one of my coworkers was picking up lunch at PF Changs are like your station's talking about this guy being meant missing any sitting at the bar at PF Changs might want him self with guitar so they might even I feel like it might have been any Robinson made like I I definitely a forward right well yeah sticking out when I was a big forward at a center someone will remember because like it was a big news story last night that this guy wasn't at practice you just chill at PF Changs right around the corner from the borough center maybe he realized the wrong time thank god the not being able to find bar tolo Cologne Scott's in Kerry Illinois on ESPN with Scott Hey are you guys doing great Hey you know I feel sorry for nobody more than the athletes but the I'm a division one two and three softball umpire hello and just you know and everything everything yeah we we got a NBA players informed of “Doomsday Provision” that could free owners from paying them
"Correspondence to players addressing the uncertainty surrounding the NBA's indefinite suspension of play the national basketball Players Association on Friday spelled out terms on a doomsday provision including in the collective bargaining agreement included excuse me in the collective bargaining agreement that could free owners from paying players a percentage of their salaries should the rest of the season be lost to the corona virus pandemic the CBA includes a clause called the force majeure I had to help us in that you know what that is that all but I I read it I think I know what it is I know what that is we need our lawyers right now but I force majeure events that includes multiple dramatic scenarios including epidemics that the week could trigger in the event of a worst case scenario other instances that could trigger the clause include natural disasters and war the next scheduled paycheck for players comes on Sunday and those will be filled share that would make sense imagine to get to a point where the season is canceled this or not paying a percentage salary well I mean if you're an older you would say what now we want them to take care of these an hourly employees right Brian James a little different yeah I like I I might get it right but we're here telling the owners Hey listen do the right thing everybody is the right thing to pay these players regardless or are they do they have a legitimate out I think they have this please I mean if your daughter would you think that was a legitimate out yeah we're not talking about we're not playing games with you

"Obviously, he built the league from, you know, back in earlier eras where they were drug is shoes, and there was racial issues with the audience and you know, league support remember in college as you probably recall, although you're probably younger than me that we're watching the finals, you know, on late night TV at eleven thirty taper relate. So the way that businesses grown is a trip to, you know, David Stearns vision, and Adam was with him at that time Adams, just more than new way. Whether it's inclusion of gambling, or sign of John jerseys coke globalization. And I had the that fortunate representing L million when the gate realize what his potential was. They just stuck their roots deeply into China. I know they're working on India. You know, things were materialize in Africa, so Adams, going to his concept has always been to grow the pie and Michelle understands that another players have rights with some of the marketing. So there's just more of a partnership concept. So it's, it's really working out. Well now right. That is Bill does. V NBA agent, man. Thank you so much. Joining us, we really appreciate it. Always money. Thank you. The head of the National Basketball players association. Her name is Michelle robbers show. We've talked a bit about what the supermax contract is now with the last CBA negotiations. How big of a thing was this in those negotiations to make sure to get supermax contract through for players? I don't like to talk of internal CV negotiations, but I can answer this question by saying, it was not the most significant issue that we, we were dressing during negotiations. Frankly, we wanted to do something, and I think ultimately, we succeeded for every class a player so we talked about things we could do in terms of comp for rookies for vets for. Free agents for the entire membership was under consideration. And we didn't exclude. I mean some might say, well, why do you have to worry about the, the max guys, Maxine eligible, you know, members of my union too. So we went up and down the bench, so to speak, and wanted to make sure that there was some thing in it for everybody. So was it was it something we would have struck on? I'm not gonna say that, but it was important that we received some, some value, some confab you some enhanced come failure for every category of players, including the Mexico is not does the players association seeds. Just the general idea of max contract as a compromise. Well, let's start with the fact that we've got. Got a salary cap at all. Of course, the compromise in a completely free enterprise system. There would be no such. Animal. We don't have that system. I walked into a system, pretty much ready made that obviously it was not designed for complete on unfettered free market. So, yeah, it's a compromise just as I suppose owners would say that. The minimum contract is is a compromise. So yeah, can't can't call it, what it ain't and that's what it is. Now how did this grow out of this, you know, the five year contracts twenty-five percent raises how what was the process for growing this place? Well, I should just point out that I wasn't here when the when the twenty five contract with negotiators. So maybe Louis, but skewered in my response, I think the Genesis of bet and this, this, this new deal was to further incentivize players to stay with the team that brought you. The, the, the there is a body of thinking that suggests that the game is better served if players stay with the team for, if not most not all most of his career, I don't necessarily buy into that. But I pretty shit that there's some people that that feel strongly about that. So the incent that much in the in the CBA that's designed to incentivize players to stay with team. And that's that's one of them. If, if your team can make an offer with the spec to comp that no other can, then obviously it makes you presumably think twice before you elect to go. Elsewhere. That's principally the, the basis for it. Whether or not, it's, it's worked, you know, the for others, but that, that was why it was at least being considered. Well, one thing is have gotten farther away from the big cat. Boom of twenty sixteen is they'd now guys are becoming eligible for this larger contract..

"Williamson injury the sneaker employment seen around the world. And then shortly after that about twenty four hours later, Ben the NBA formerly proposed changing the draft eligible age requirement from nineteen to eighteen to the National Basketball players association. Adrian will drowsy back in October reported that the sides had been struggling to reach an agreement on lowering said age your thoughts on the idea. Of the NBA dropping the draft eligible age from nineteen to eighteen I to me, it's just giving in to public pressure. The NBA has the freedom. They can do what they want. Like like, why did they why did they stop and make it go to the one done? Like, why did they do that? Because they did it because so many guys were going straight from high school trying to go to the pros enflaming out. Right. Like that whole driving force behind that. And now because we've seen the handful of guys that were NBA ready coming right out of high school that they're being held hostage. And I don't like a a major sports league. It's like why the tail wagging the dog don't let public sentiment change. What you think is best for your league? If they're trying to keep high school kids for making that jump and giving them at least one year to go to college to realise. Okay. Wait. Maybe I'm not as good as I thought it was I better. Stick this college thing out and see what shakes out there. So I I'm of the opinion the NBA is different than the NFL because if you are in high school basketball player, and you think your professional ready, and yet you can't go to the NBA because you've got to wait a year for the one and done. There are ways for you in high school to go right out of high school to go become a professional and make good money. Go play in Italy. Go play in Jamaica, go play in in Europe somewhere and make your money, and then come back and go to the NBA that way. See I I see this story. And I say about time it's about time the NBA is working towards dropping the eligible age from nineteen to eighteen. I just think it makes a lot of sense. You know, you go back two years ago when the NBA decided on the one and done rule and said, well, we don't want kids coming out of high school to jump right into the league things have changed. Ben things have changed an awful lot since then you have the undergraduate advisory committee. I think the NBA would do something similar for the highest. School kids where they would talk to these young men and say, we don't think that you're ready with NBA GM's do not believe that you are ready. You should go to college for at least a year. You're not going to be drafted in the first round. If your friends are telling you that if your agent is telling you that they're full of crap. That's not what's going to happen. They have the draft combine where if you're not even invited you should know that's a litmus test. If you're not invited to that. Combine you're not going to get drafted in the first couple of rounds. The biggest difference though over the last several years. Ben is the Geely the NBA now has a developmental league that did not exist when you go back several years ago. So when kids are coming out of high school, if they decide to stay in the draft, and it ends up not being the best decision made by them or their circle of influence, then at least they have somewhere else to go where these teams in the NBA will still work with you. They will still develop you you have a place to play. You have a place to get minutes. You don't have to move out of the country. I think it's unfair to say to an eighteen year old kid if you want to play professionally in the NBA, then move out of the country, go to Europe guys. How many guys are we talking about though is legitimately. We're having this national discussion over how many guys do you think? But the point is shouldn't as ion Williamson if he wants to go to the league, if he's ready physically and we see him and his basketball game is is ready. He should have the option to walk into the NBA. He's eighteen years old. He's illegal adult, but. Williamson's is a once every couple of generations type RJ Barrett's RJ Barrett's ready job Marantz ready. There are several guys that are ready at eighteen years old. I'm not saying it's happening. Every ready? There's three dozen that will make the jump that will wreck their life their wealthy events that nobody reads about them. Maybe if the NBA if the NBA handles this responsibly, if they have an advisory committee, and they tell these kids well before the draft you are not going to get drafted. You are not going to be a first round pick. You are not going to be a second. So big. They will listen every year. You're watching the NFL guys get poor grades on their draft eligibility. The council that they are feedback that they get from the NFL, and they still choose to go pro because they refused to see it. So the NBA what is it the NBA basically with the one and done has said, listen, we're making we're drawing the line here saying we're not going to have to tell you earn vise you or council you and just say listen way. A year just wait a year. And then what you're talking about the G league. I would argue that are you better off going and playing a year in the league. Or are you better off going and playing at a major ACC conference school and go play on play it to go play at Virginia. Go. You don't get it. Twisted. I'm not saying the G league is a better option than these bigger conference schools. It's not what I'm saying. But I am saying is what happened to kids that came out of high school and did not get drafted or they get drafted in the second round a guy like, you know, even even someone who's spent a year in college like a God Shammgod, and they came out too early. And they go back, and they say man, I wish I should've stayed in school for another year or two, and it's cetera, etc. Those guys when they didn't make the cut in the league they were done. They had to move out of the country. They had to go away from their families everything they knew and they had to be forced to be on their own in Europe trying to make it professionally now they have at least an option in this country where they can develop and work with the NBA. This is the best week ever on ESPN radio at Ben art sock and cattles they have that option. Now, at least it is an option, and I have an eighteen year old kids they make bad decisions every single day. And if they can at least be guy. Headed and say and have people telling them this is going to be a mistake. If you went into the draft if they decide that they want to enter the draft, it's their life. It's their life. It's there to make. I don't really like at its core. I don't care because the NBA it is a different sport than football. There are examples where your high school ready, and you can physically hang at that level of game. But it to me it's it's the frustration. With me is don't as the NBA. Let the tail wag the dog. Don't let public pressure it dictate. What you think right right thing to do for your league? And I want to get to that. Good. Good. Good. Well, I wanted to get into the design Williamson thing as you mentioned the public pressure. The NBA came out and said this they didn't do this because of the Zion Williamson injury, that's very hard to believe. Now, they were talking about this back in October. But then the very next day after Williamson's injury. They again, push for this with the with the National Basketball players association. It's tough for me to believe that this would be a thing this week, Ben if we did not see what happened is I on happen on Wednesday night. Well, it's yeah. It's it's it has been in discussion for since last season. They've been talking about this whole one thing for a while. I think it was an opportune time a tipping point type of thing that you know, maybe they pushed out a little bit earlier. But I think it was merely merely coincidental. The the thing though. The blowing out of that shoe like as bad as that was for Nike. It is it is the kind of legend and mythological thing that we didn't need that to be the myth and legend that he is making himself that just continues to add it was kind of like what I was teammates with Peyton Manning. And he would throw the football from fifty yards into the garbage can like we all know, you're the best. We don't need to like added that other layer like it's just like really you're that good your weight designed you're so unbelievably talented that these Nike shoes literally under athleticism. It's just it's it's amazing to watch happen your shoe imploded. It's truly amazing. And then you've got guys like Ryan McGee on ESPN. He was it was like something it was like OJ's glove like this piece of evidence that everybody needed. It was like a piece of space shuttle from the challenger explosion. He wanted to see it. I saw it be taken by the security guard and. It's under lock and key. And it's being studied by NASA. It's amazing. There's we say that Zion is unique in it's almost now taken for granted because everyone has been saying it all year long. But he is he is spectacular. He is unique. He is a one man marketing machine, and the fact that we had tickets on the secondary market Wednesday night selling for four thousand dollars to walk into that arena. That's because of Zion Williamson best week ever. Nick, cattles Abed heart sock with you can follow Ben on Twitter at Ben heart sock. You can follow me on Twitter as well. At Nick, see radio coming up next an ugly story involving Robert Kraft surfaces later on in the week. How will this affect the patriots organization will that affect that locker room? I'm the cattles. He's been heart shocking for Peter burns. It's the best week ever on ESPN radio and the ESPN app..

"Age requirement from nineteen to eighteen to the National Basketball players association. USA today. Sending a source says the union and its executive director Michelle Roberts plan to review the proposal at their post all-star break meeting, which is going to happen. Coming up on Monday. The timing of the formal proposal is not related. Okay. I want to get this out there. It's not related to the knee injury suffered by Zion Williamson on Wednesday night in that Duke UNC game when shoo blew up and he tweaked his knee. They're saying it's a mild sprain grade one which is great. Though, they're saying that it's not connected at all. But might as well be. But what what what do you think about this? This is not new news because we had heard about this at least a year ago about the idea of them bringing getting rid of the one in done, maybe trying to have it in place by twenty twenty two the draft that you know, you come straight out of high school. Are you a fan of this getting rid of the one and done? What's your take on this? Yeah. I think the NBA far better place than they were in two thousand five when they changed it from the one year rule from the high school rule to the one year role leagues places far as having a G league having a place where guys can go develop immediately. They're you know, much more closer than bay teams are to their to their G league affiliates. And I think. They're in a better place in terms of educating their players, not screwing up being great with their money. Look at all the the young players of young crops of the several years back. They're doing well. So I think that's important. I think, you know, design Williamson things important the NC double A and how they don't pay their players as important but getting their own house, right? Was also important. Yeah. The one and done was a joke because people went learning and going college, and and getting an education, I would just doing it because they had to do it before they play in the NBA. So you might as well scrap it if it's not going to be done properly and get these guys getting paid quicker because I deserve it. I'm in favor of a development stage because most excuse me. Chassis to focus se your flip phone. Development staying. Eighteen year old kids on emotionally all or physically mature enough to play in the league. But if you can box than you than you deserve to go and get well it was announced in October..

"So it doesn't really work as well as it may have done in the nineties because plays a different and they need to be treated differently. And the booths were already struggling, and if the players feel that the coach come in. And so the point is you're not. Would not enough, you know, in great condition, then you're going to go out there and getting great condition again, those things can backfire because no team in the NBA basically practices or even has a shoot around offer 'back-to-back, no matter what. Yeah. But the bulls are gonna win stately. Sounds like a high school team. Well, maybe that for that they needed it. But I think that's one of the things with the plaza. Okay. Listen things ongoing. Well, but this isn't gonna help if you just trying to work into the grant to get at conditioning up after we just played two, and let's not forget actually had an incredible win before that. So it's not as everything was bad. Sure. That Boston game totally unacceptable. But I'm not sure if the answer is to then just say, all right? I'm just going to run you guys into the ground. Now, it just sure feels like they don't respect their coach already and reports are that Jim Boylan says the leader on this team has to be coached hard. Like what happened when I was in San Antonio as an assistant coach and the players spoke out. You're not break Popovich. And that's how you start in week one. And it doesn't seem like there's a relationship from day one, and they actually reached out to the N B PA the National Basketball players association got a call from the bulls because Jim Boylan was using extreme tactics. According to Yahoo sports, the player said, hey, union, boss. I don't think this should be the should fly here with us. That was a legitimate thing that happened that happened. Yeah. I actually have you ever heard of that. No. That is why I don't think I think this is less to do with the idea that there was going to be a practice on Sunday. And even the fifty six point loss to the Celtics. I actually think it had more to do in my opinion with the five-man substitutions that Boylan did like pop has done again pop as a thousand plus wins in this league Boylan has one that they were upset about that. It's one thing to do it in the first quarter. They were down thirteen. Yeah. You see that these starters out? Maybe the bench gives us something. But then it happened again in the second half after it was like a five to three run from the Celtics. And Boylan did that again that is really really strange unheard of to take out all five starters when you're already getting killed and put in five reserves. That's just weird. And I think that you know, that then is to me is like a public embarrassment to those starters. And then that's when you really really start to lose the trust maybe of a coach. And then you compound that with the idea of practicing all that I think that's maybe what happened it. Sure. Like Zach LeVine took that to heart that particular one he was interviewed afterwards. And he's he he he did feel embarrassed. He said don't question our toughness. We work our butts off. So the next day when the team does show up for practice or this meeting. I shouldn't say call it practice because it was it was a players only meeting combined with a coach meeting like regular meeting and exactly being comes out of it. And he says it was good to get everything off our chest and be transparent about things. So I'm just trying to be positive Pete here. Maybe maybe maybe they spend it and Zach LeVine is coached like one of the best players like Tim Duncan, and they can find a middle ground here. We'll see starts again tonight play the kings, right next headline. You guys are laughing. But the bulls are going to be tough come regionals time. Our next from TSN Kyle Lowry is held scoreless as raptors lose again. Two bucks. Is this just all bad news for the starters or what? Yeah. Bowls are bad raptors or bad. What is going on with this is? I mean, this is mind boggling this is now, you know, five of the last six games one game..
