"The National Basketball Association. He said. The safest thing to do would be to not all get together for Thanksgiving or for Christmas. But that's not realistic. So instead, he proposes you create your own Thanksgiving bubble. A bubble. Where you Gathered together the group of people that you want to have for the holidays. You make sure everybody's tested negative. Then you bring them into whatever location you're going to do it and you keep them there and nobody leaves. This to me? Sounds like a recipe for fireworks. Most people can barely know. Is my Sicilian and laws would be the first to tell you. There's a lot of similarities, Shera Between fish. And your relatives. After three days, they both start to stink. Atlanta Hawks Head Coach Addresses NBA Strikes For Racial Justice

"The National Basketball Association put the world on notice this week playoff games came to a halt when the Milwaukee Bucks refused to play on Wednesday in protest of the latest police shooting of Jacob Blake. A black man in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Protest in other leagues followed suit The W N B a major league baseball, hockey and football college athletes marched on campus in solidarity with players trying to raise awareness on racism and police brutality. To talk about what's next. We're joined by the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks. Lloyd Pierce. Thank you for coming on the program. Thank you for having me so, Coach. I understand you have been in touch with Jacob Blakes. Father. Why was it important for you to reach out to him? The level of influence and access that we have as an association is really, really high and and so just the opportunity that was presented to us as coaches Our coaches association to connect with the family, I thought would be It's really impactful trying to figure out one out. They're all doing and to what we can do from a humanity standpoint, too. Really be there in support of the family. I have to ask emotionally. Did this shooting bring up feelings that you had back in June when the during the killing of Rashard Brooks in Atlanta? Every shooting as an emotional attachment, and I think every time you see another one, you know it brings you back. They just all add on and for people that are dealing with anxiety deep people are dealing with depression, people that are feeling like There's so much stress that's occurring. You can see how that comes about, you know, n Ba players sent a clear message this week that reverberated throughout the sports world. Beyond that the protests led to some concrete commitments for change. For instance, the Wisconsin Legislature committed to going into special session on police reform. What kinds of things were achieved through this action? Well, I think the biggest thing that the players were able to do was was expressed that they want to be hurt. They wanted our league toe put racial discrimination, racial profiling, racial injustice, police brutality. They wanted to put that at the forefront. Obviously, there are some tangible items that came about, you know, with with emphasis on voting, with the emphasis on forming a coalition to address these issues moving forward with the emphasis on the policing bill. Writes and addressing that from a legislative standpoint, you've been a prominent voice in Atlanta for racial justice and a protest this summer. I'm going to quote you now, you said. I was born a black man. I'm going to die a black man, But I do not want to die because I'm a black man. Why is sharing your experience with the community there in Atlanta? Important to you? I'm sharing it with anyone that'll listen. And I think it's important to note that you know, prior to June are really, really Phil. That a lot of people in our country both black and white, and any other ethnicity. We're pretty ignorant, Teo the fact that there are a lot of people that feel and think that I in the way that I do in terms of the fear of being black, the fear of living in America and being a black man. I wonder what you say to people who And we've heard this time and time again who think that athletes should be athletes and stay away from the politics? Well, I wasn't and I'm not a person who grew up interested in politics. But what I really don't see is someone that looks like me. That's our fight. Our fight is we need to address areas of legislation. We need to address areas of representation and in order to do so. It's going to require other individuals to fight for those people to be in that position, And so if it requires us athletes on us in sports to push for new representation, and that starts with the vote, then that's what that's what we're going to be committed to. You know, you're the chair of AA Committee of the Coaches Association. That's focused on racial injustice. What what do you see? Coming next from the N B A on this subject? You know, hopefully a lot of hope. There are a lot of angles that come out of this. This isn't us saying we had the answers and we're going to. We're going to tell our players. We have the answers, and this is what we're going to do know this is a different This is a different world for all of us, and so we have committed Ourselves, too. Working with Bryan Stevenson from Unequal Justice Initiative, working with the Obama Foundation in my brother's keeper on mentoring and community initiatives for low income areas, working with various individuals who Are focused in our communities on racial justice, education, access, health care, access, police reform legislative items We want to hear from them. We want to be educated, and we want to be able to amplify the work that they're doing, and that's that's been our focus from day one. That was the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks. Lloyd Pierce. Thank you so much for being on our programme.

The FDA Authorizes a Cheap, Fast Saliva Test, and the NBA Is Involved

"The FDA on Saturday issuing an emergency use authorization for the new saliva Direct Corona virus test developed by the Yale University School of Public Health and the National Basketball Association. The test processes saliva samples to rapidly determine whether a person is infected with the Corona virus and does not need any swab or other specific collection device. The new test is also far cheaper than current tests costing about $4. There's a test for materials before any added labor cost. That price and a quick turnaround time could help encourage more frequent covert 19 testing in settings like schools, universities and office buildings. All Steven's Fox

NBA-China standoff intensifies over controversial tweet

"So Daryl Morey he's the general manager of the Houston Rockets have put out a tweet the other day basically saying he stands with Hong Kong we stand with Hong Kong and when we all we being a collective as this country should go yep that's right I mean there there's nothing controversial about that right China is a corrupt authoritarian regime they're awful they're terrible and for four years and if you think communism's okay even if you're a Bernie bro for decades China has inflicted immense harm on the American economy either through currency manipulation or intellectual property rights violations whatever there's a litany of things China is a bad dude they're a bad actor there a bad player and the fact that the folks in Hong Kong continue to protest and continue to fight in could you have violence in many cases and acted on them for liberty and freedom to break free of the oppressive Chinese regime there is no question all of us should go get we still in Hong Kong now I'm not saying military intervention I'm not saying anything of that sort but in terms of who you well yeah we should want to people who stand for liberty and freedom who hole I could the U. S. who want to be friends with us we stand with those people nothing controversial about that at all online as you've got billions of dollars at stake when the N. B. A. dulls through its relationship with China the NBA has literally over over a course of time billions of dollars at stake because of the money that China represents to them through having games played over there do merchandising through television and China I code bill of you know words over there in China easy we get this thing over it's called freedom of speech and you can tell Intel the American government to **** off all you want in fact NBA really encourages that you know they awoke people over there in the NBA really educated top flight people they know what's going on you know like lebron James number he was wearing the bait hat in the takers lecture and they got dudes like a great pop of it use the coach of the San Antonio Spurs any at Steve Kerr gonna hear from him in just a second coach for the for the Golden State Warriors they're really woke when it comes to Tromp in the social issues in American their their whole only willing to speak out yeah you can't can't do that over there in China because they they do things like chop the hands off and stuff like that so so NBA's got a got a problem see the problem is NBA courage is the won't guys to speak our right you know lebron pop of the Steve Kerr when it comes to repent on trump for the Republicans or whatever else but now they get this do Daryl Morey who says basically what every American should think regardless of political party which is we stand with people who are at liberty and freedom the new gatt China that accounts for billions of dollars and China has already said we can't up your hands on but we can cancel your pre season games V. from being aired on Chinese state television which is what has happened so what do you do if you're the NBA well there was a time in this country where it was country first there was a time were being an American and standing for something meant something and that meant we would tell China okay fine you don't want our product is our backs and were big enough for the National Basketball Association there are more important things than money or or not anymore my friends because not only is the NBA refusing to say that and by the way this is only going into one of two ways because again China eighteen ****

In the NBA vs. China battle, business could suffer

"We begin today with the not entirely idle speculation of what James Naismith would think of the sport that he invented low these one hundred twenty eight years ago and the global economic context in which it finds itself we are of course a long way from the peach baskets that Naismith used as the original hoops and the global economy is nothing like it was in eighteen ninety one but a quick glance at the news sports or otherwise reveals basketball as the pivot point perhaps the biggest corporate story of this day National Basketball Association in the aftermath of a tweet from Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey last week supporting anti-government protests in Hong Kong the response from Beijing has been swift and clear an NBA fan event before a preseason game between the Brooklyn Nets and La Lakers in Shanghai has been cancelled a public training session for the nets also in Shanghai I also called off corporate Chinese sponsorships with the NBA Undone meanwhile the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver says Moore he has the right to exercise his freedom expression it is a big big deal the story with peril plenty so we got marketplaces and you're on the line to hash things out with US hey hey solar this is kind of basic but clearly it seems the basics have been lost in this the NBA has been for decades now one of the most progressive of profession all sports leagues do you suppose that somehow they didn't see something like this coming and if they didn't see it why didn't they see what will that's the and you're getting right to it right the difficulty here for the NBA is indeed it does want to be seen as a progressive league doesn't want to go off brand but the NBA also has to be three of its brand in China the brand is tarnished in the eyes of Chinese businesses of consumers that's GonNa prove difficult and costly for the NBA amity in China this is something that every American Sports League is GonNa take note of because they all see the money in China they want to do business there and even spoke with a sports marketing professor from China he kept telling me that the everyday business of sport in China it's market based right it's similar doing business in the as we all know that we've heard that one hundred times then he said just to be sure not to get on the wrong side of the government because then the market gets thrown out the window well that's that's so interesting so clearly the calculation that's happened here is that the Chinese government has decided it does not need the NBA's brand new basketball in China right because they're grown they're leagues and and they can in essence do with themselves no matter how popular Yao Ming in the Houston Rockets and all of those folks are over there but the NBA is it is the brand right Chinese basketball is NBA China basically when Yao Ming came onto the scene in two thousand and two the celerity of basketball in China skyrocketed because you had to do out there who looked like them you had two hundred million people watched that first game it's going to be so difficult for the Chinese government if they just want to say look we got this we're GonNa have basketball basketball is great here we have all sorts of stars it's going to be so difficult because the other thing is Americans who don't make it to the NBA go and play in China and so there's so much sort of meshing there with the NBA in China that's going to be so difficult for the Chinese to be able to do that let us take this away from basketball for two seconds because you're NBA is certainly not the first company that has run into trouble in China today there was a controversy with apple in one of its APPs let's people identified police in Hong Kong and the Chinese government is displeased with that there is wider risk there is also wider acknowledgement of some of the challenges of doing business in China tipping point do you think I mean you know spitball that for me that's what I kept asking the smarter people than I am about this when you're talking about sort of Chinese relations and things like that and it's funny because everybody that I spoke with says you know what these are hiccups and businesses are going to have to do better at navigating business in China nobody is saying they're going to pull out of China no business person thinks that because there's so much money there they just don't see an American company just pulling out because of difficulties so instead of let's get out of here this is a tipping point we don't want to deal with China it's figuring out how to do business better there and dealer cover sports in a bunch of other stuff force advocate ut in Austin Texas andy thanks a bunch appreciate it you got a

"They just traded away. It away. Eight talented player who and nothing against him. I loved him in college. Bob is there a more overpaid player in the National Basketball Association than Michael maxed out Conley? Nobody nobody nobody nobody never been in an all star game. And my correct. I believe, correct. About thirty million years. It's crazy. I mean it's it's wonderful country in that regard. Wonderful country and question. But they've opened up a job, obviously, they're going to take Mirant because they just right. Wake on lease that kind of settles that, and the Knicks are going to get Barrett. Unless they choose. A deal for them. But at the I I there's gonna be some movement. There's no doubt in my mind, not had the Celtics get in play Bob because boy oh boy, has there been a reversal of fortune, in Boston, Massachusetts when it comes to the National Basketball Association, it's obviously, not the we'd go back a year ago. And this whole thing has turned around. I'll say this. Buyer, beware. Whoever gets kyri Irving buyer, beware. No, seriously. He's a wack job. His never going to be happy doesn't even know what he wants, be careful. Al Horford is currently going to leave, and I have have no ill will toward Al Horford. Whatever Al is best for alleys. Great wonderful team player. A good guy. What's the reason you want don't know, I'm disappointed disappointed. But I'm not stunned shocked and disappointed. And I wish him well and Anthony Davis was never coming here. So I'd known people shouldn't be, including that in their woes e we're going to get him. He's the Celtics right now. Jason tatum. They paid them Brown of smart that, you know, that, that's an Hayward, who is going to come back and be an all star. I'm going to categorically state that right now he's going to come back and he's going to be fine next year and they're going to be still still a lot of got those four and they have four draft picks. Fourteen twenty twenty two and fifty one tonight. So I mean. Prophecy approach, like, okay we got those four let's, let's get three. You know, at fourteen twenty twenty two three young guys play with them or to package those picks together and go get an established player. I think first of all, how in Tyson are they really beyond fourteen twenty and twenty and twenty two and fifty one I mean how in any given year fluctuates depending on depth of the draft. And, and I don't know how enticing that is. I, I think that would be Danny's first preference. But I don't know that he was going to be able to put anything like that often they marry well might have room for the three young lawyers, and whoever fifty one is might be they called draft and stash. You know and, and somewhere. So I don't know. But right Mike. It's a different feeling..

"As we head into December January. I look at Tom, and I think maybe there's decline I still think he's the guy in the AFC. I'd want with two thirty to go. Of course, of course, especially within that division. He is the guy. But when you look at look at let's look at the National Basketball Association. Lebron james. Yeah. What the Lakers are doing with him? They're trying to cut back as minutes trying to make sure that he's available when it matters late in the season, six and a half minutes to go. Yes. And when it counts when the game is on the line. We're we're we feel like we have enough talent. And we're coach well enough to where we can stay tight and then axe him to finish. Yeah. That is what the New England Patriots have always been able to do defense has never stood out and just been stifling. But they're going to be in the game. When it matters if they get the ball last, you're on pins and needles because you're afraid of what Tom has always proven. He can do. Yeah. It it really, you know. Lebron? It's a good comparison. Because with Brady I still come down to if you said to yourself final drive AFC by would take Brady, Ben. I don't trust. No Watson still a little green Mahomes would make a no look pass. And it would end up in somebody's a cornerback hand. You're you're you're losing me with the Mahomes thing. No look pass. "Welcome back. Everyone of the GMC sports podcasts. We just talked about the Thursday night football match between the saints and the Cowboys. Now, we're moving onto the National Basketball Association. So what are we going on? I for the agenda of the NBA, Mark. Well, there was an interesting trae that happened last night the Utah Jazz have acquired former guard Kyle Korver he is now back with the jazz after spending many years with them. He is back in return, the jazz send the keep Cleveland Cavaliers out Burks and two second round draft picks, the jazz were twenty ninth in three point percentage going into making this trade. So it makes sense why they would look for a tremendous three point shooter. I know that Korver is getting a little bit higher up in age. The we know that he can shoot the ball, especially when he's opened. So what do you make of this this trade right off the bat? Well. Well, it can only benefit the jazz for sure. And of course, this means Cavaliers are full rebuild mode. This is I mean. Yeah, this I know it was obvious. But it was like this put them in officially rebuild mode. You know what? I mean. It's like so now this is a part of the first of a few moves that they're going to make the absolutely one hundred percent we expect air Smith to get traded at some point or outright outright released. Yeah. It's the Jason is just gonna ask for release. Or what I'm not sure. But fact of the matter is. The the jazz just got a big time put three point shooter that can only help them get out of this funk that they're in right now because that's what they're in. They're in a funk and even last night, they do win they played against Brooklyn. They one one a one ninety one. They win the game. Donovan Mitchell had a good game. But the team again only shot thirty two percent from three which is about their average a little bit higher there as a team they're shooting thirty percent, which is super-low really hard to win in today's NBA like that. I think this edition will help them. But I don't know if this really changes a lot do you think that this will change their season they're ten and twelve right now? So we expected them to be really good. Is this the type of move that will get them back on track? Or do you think they still need to make more moves? A couple more moves wouldn't hurt. Obviously. I think it just got a little find the right things to tribe's you trade it a lot for Korver, and you shaded multiple second round picks. So what else can think they'd give up like a first round pick for someone to add onto that? Or do you think it's one of those things where they they're just gonna try to do their best with what they have in the G league as well. As what they have on the main roster and going into this this trade, they're only gonna just give him the ball shoes from threes and help Donovan Mitchell L when he comes back. Yeah. And last.

"He's the one that realizes that games need to be one before any free agency hits. What do you think? You're right. I think everybody there realizes that. And that you know, when Draymond green said, this was a bump in the road to a certain extent it was. But the warriors are you know, they're every bit is guilty of looking past this season as anybody because next year they go into a new building. And it's a new building across the bay. They've got basically take their fan base. And then add to it. Because a lot of people are. Drop off 'cause they're not gonna go across the bay and deal with the nightmares of traffic, and and higher prices and all that they have to rebuild a fan base. They have to, you know, make keep this machine going, and if they go into a new building and all of a sudden the warriors are not as advertised like they were the previous four five years. Then all of a sudden now, you know, the blooms off the rose. And I think, you know, everybody, including the organization has been caught looking down the road. You know, we've got to keep this going because of next year. We gotta keep this going because we're trying to we're trying to build our legacy. It's there. Everybody the entire National Basketball Association all thirty of its constituent teams and everything is looking ahead to twenty twenty. It's when you look back at this and five years, you will realize how insane this all is. And that we are all part of and Steve continental of it because he is in many ways and old school guy. You know? I mean, I he, you know, he he's he's a modern coach he lets players, you know, players. But you know, he, you know, he was a guy who would great his teeth and take charge, and, you know, get into the fight with Michael Jordan, because that's what you do, you know? And now he's dealing with the dynamic and Bob Myers dealing with it and Joe link-up stealing dynamic in which the immediacy of coaching in plain is almost secondary to our fastened. Nation with down the road, and in no other sport. Is that happening right now? It's not happening in the NFL. I mean, the NFL is classic right now. I mean, the the Los Angeles Rams are built a right now the warriors the warriors back story is what comes after this. Because we've already decided that this isn't enter -taining enough. We want we want next. And that's where all that. That's where we're all. It's tough to argue that that in the crucible of a game like Monday Ray game on the line dream on dribbles it out and Kevin Durant calls amount for it. And you may say that he might have been too demonstrative, certainly for somebody is potentially sensitive as Draymond green and greens. I thought is to go down the road about that decision in the middle of just the the heat of the battle in early November. It really is kind of coming from a certain spot that you would normally expect it to come from. Well, I mean, it the rant warriors dynamic is an interesting one. It's probably the most interesting thing about them right now. Because on the one hand you've got a number of warriors who, you know, want to say, but haven't what more do you want? You know, what is it? We're not providing you and talking to Kevin Durant. What is it? We're not providing for you doesn't make you say it's a no brainer for me to come back. And Durant is saying without saying I want to see what else is out there. I'm curious about what it would be like, if I, you know, listen to the Knicks or if I listened to the Lakers, or I listen to the Phoenix Suns, whatever and dream on green is the guy who says the unpleasant truth, unfiltered at a loud volume, and he chose..

"GMC sports podcast finished talk every game of the week nine of the NFL season. We're moving on to week ten but that is for Friday today. We're going to the N B A the National Basketball Association. We're gonna go rain to fright. Saturday's games. I when you think. Yeah. I mean, I I wanna talk about the Lakers because news came out this weekend that Magic Johnson had a meeting with Luke Walton and. Sounds like put the pressure on told them that they need to start turning things around. But more importantly that they need to play with an identity that the team doesn't really have an identity at this point, which is a little bit understandable considering played what ten games now. So we're still very early in the season. But without said, Luke Walton is now the odds on favourite TV, the first coach to be fired, according to Vegas odd. So what do you make of that story? Jeff already early in the season. Magic Johnson calling Luke Walton into a meeting about the the lack of good things coming from the Lakers and other performances. Well, I think one of the main things about this is match on said he's not worried about him losing his job. And I'm not sure how that goes. But the fact just think that maybe you'd think of maybe just looking on the side for somebody else. I know that sounds kinda sketchy. But the way I see it is. Luke Walton may not be a good coach like just he's he's a player that just went straight to a coach. He wasn't assistant coach of the warriors when they won the NBA title couple years ago. But I don't see him as a. Premier coat in this leak to be on. I mean, it's to be seen. Right. We haven't seen Luke Walton base successful head coach. But we've also seen them takeover Lakers team that's been in transition process a rebuilding process. But but yeah, I mean you look at the Lakers. They get blown out last night at home. Yes, they're playing the raptors. And the raptors are one of the premier teams in the NBA at the moment, but they did not have quite Leonard. And they went down forty two to seventeen in the first quarter last night with a co why less Toronto Raptors team that's concerning. The Lakers did squeak by the Mavericks week. They beat them by one point. They had a nice win against Portland on Saturday night the night before that's a good win port. One is a good basketball team. But losing Toronto without Kawhi at home and getting blown out. Is that a little bit concerning? Jeff. Well, the raptors are good team all around. So it doesn't really lost that much to the warriors irks char the raptors because they didn't have quiet. I wouldn't say that was a huge factor in the fact of the matter is the raptors are just a great team. I wouldn't put that by them them losing to other teams in in easy win games. That should be for them is the more concerning part to me. I mean the represent great team. But quite Leonard not having him. You not having your best player in the still great player, and he's still helped contribute. Right. But you're thirty four point. Yeah..

"We believe it's been resolved. Supposedly, the sound audio should be a hell of a lot better now than it was over the first ten minutes of this show. Again, my apologies reminding you that at the top of hour number two of the Stephen Smith show today Commissioner Adam silver, the National Basketball Association will be on with us with yours, truly. So I'm looking forward to talking to him about this upcoming NBA season. This season has officially arrived as of last night. So definitely. So plus I'm gonna get into some boxes, some NFL with John. Marin Odell, Beckham, JR, etc. Etc. But I was talking about Boston and Philadelphia for this reason as we scour particularly the Eastern Conference. Right? And we look at things for what they are. Let's be very, very clear about what I'm trying to say. The Boston Celtics, she'd come out of the Eastern Conference. They're loaded. They're loaded. I know a lot of people out there looking at Toronto and they're saying, excuse me, what about Toronto? They went from Tamar, Derosier Kawai Linnet and that's what that's -nificant upgrade. Listen, I love Kyle Lowry and Fred van bleep. They're good, really, really good players. Calories an all-star, got a lot of love for him. I go back to the days of covering him in high school in Philadelphia, love Karl Lowry. I think compla- off Tom playoff basketball, he's miniature. And as a result, he's a defensive liability as much of a pit bull as he is. But when he goes out the game, ofensive -ly Toronto as compromise because then Anobi is as potent as they are defensively ofensive -ly. It's problematic for them there. There's a challenge for them to school, and I think that's going to be problematic for them on that regard. Not to mention the fact that the wing Casey is no longer there. Some do name, Nick nurse is their head coach not to knock him. I'm quite sure he could coach because massage ary is one of the best executives and the game of basketball. And this guy wouldn't be the head coach. It massad didn't believe in them and messiah knows what he's doing. So he deserves faith and vote of confidence, but I still don't think there is loaded as as Boston. Okay. Then you look at the other teams, the Eastern Conference Milwaukee struggles with perimeter shooting, and there's pressure under the Greek freak to take it to another level. We talk about him like, he's the best in the world, doesn't have a jump shot yet is croak incredible as he is, doesn't have a jump shot yet in Milwaukee out of the first round. So I need to see more from him. Miami is delays last year. Well, maybe if you went out and got Jimmy Butler, I believe in you more. But right now I see Miami going home in the first round. Again. Washington to me is a sleeper if the white Howard remembers he still in the league and he still respected because of his potential defensive prowess. It's not trying to be a score of who you are. The Howard should walk around average twenty or twelve again or put back the loan. And he should be average about close to three bucks not to gain. The White House, it needs to be. He's a significant upgrade from what tot. John wall who another person that I put in that sentence along with the Greek freak shows up and be who he supposed to be, who he's supposed to be. I take washer ticket be asleep. I think there could be a sleeper. But we'll have to see. We'll have to see. Now, why should ten season is not a disappointment if they would face Boston Toronto in the second round and lose to them, but I will tell you this. They got no excuse to loosen anybody else. If it eight Toronto or Boston, the watched it where this should win fifty games this year and they should be in the semifinals of the Eastern Conference at anything less. It's unacceptable unacceptable. So let's get that out the way. I guess I'm obligated. Sets us spend at least sixty percent of my time in my hometown of New York. I guess I'm obligated to bring up to nags I guess. What do you want me to say? What do you want me to say?.

"Podcast. Incites observations from around the National Basketball Association. We aim to provide an intellectual and analytical perspective to what is happening on the court. Here's your host. Glenn Willis. We're back next to last preview technically were into opening week. We did this last year's well, we kind of finish our views opening week. We've been holding off on the New York and LA teams mostly because Jimmy Butler had expressed a strong interest to being traded their wanna, see what's going to happen. We also wanted to come to break away from east west. Having one of these every single time do the New York teams together the LAT together. So tonight we're gonna finish if the Eastern Conference Knicks nets and we're gonna hit the raptors. We've been saying you guys, we want to see play in the preseason may not get our most energetic effort on both sides. I'm sick on my side and so by voice comes and goes for sound tired. It's just because I'm fatigued and Greg side. Well, the NBA starting this week, the NCAA starting basketball, starting Greg's coach. So he's got a ridiculously busy week and we're grateful. He's made some time to help to these freebies. Also, he's a. A little lower energy to some of we're gonna try to get into this. Greg, I think I texted you have not sure all the news just before we get into the Knicks extensions, the ones I'm going to focus on his miles Turner, forty or seventy million based on what I think I heard was incentive subdued could him to eighty. Then Larry Nance for years for to six millions any immediate reaction to those two contracts. I thought it was a specific adressed timing drives everything. Really. I mean, decision has to made at certain time. You really can't wait. I mean, you know the longer you way the more. You know, the negative possibilities, sort of enter the realm rather than positive. So usually waiting to science, much long term deal or commit to an extension or option or any of those things. Regardless of the player of the situation. Normally delaying are waiting is really about being risk averse. And you know, with miles Turner, the Pacers are you know, pot committed tomorrow. Again, we term and I'm sure they, you know, was she were may be a little bit further along his development still. Absolutely. Love has up side, but he has not really established to. He is as an NBA player yet, but you know the Pacers this is the right move in my opinion. And you know, when lose they're going to live with bow Turner because they're vested with him and they need him to succeed in order for him to be successful. It's a little more surprised. I mean, Nasr's guide fluctuated in an ala being rotate. Player not rotational Blair depending on what situation he's in. So that one surprise a little bit and didn't release see the Senate version. See that was required on the part of the Cavaliers. So that would cut me off guard a little bit to be honest. Yeah, I was a to be Frank shocked by lawyer, Nance contract and in discussing it with some folks just seems like a completely unnecessary overpay. I've been on record for about a year now that teams should not be offering four year contracts of any significance to anybody. That's not a top sixty seventy player in the league. Unless you know a really high like Myles Turner, dumber exactly where he was taken, but someone you're really invested in and you again, like Greg said Monday was the deadline for these guys needing either come to extension or not become risk-free, six-year Nance, a complete overpay. I'm not sure he's a for sure rotation player on a good team. He's obviously athletic. As an athlete, somewhat skill, but he's never really kind of put all the other. We talked about Aaron Gordon thinking on the magic episode, how impressive athlete, but he's never really showed the kind of put a combination of skills together that that deliver something because of the court NATs four years, ten million a year on stand that I think Jerry grant Oklahoma City is a better player..

"The National Basketball Association. We aim to provide an intellectual and analytical perspective to what is happening on the court. Here's your host. Glenn Willis. Okay. We're still working through the season previews here on the or press podcast Glenn. And Greg, again, Jimmy Butler is holding the hostage. But again, as I said before, follow him on Twitter for all that news today, we're here to talk about the hawks and the jazz. We usually try to find a theme. The kind of makes the two teams relatable in some way. Not so much here except for the fact that I think maybe three or four years from now, the hawks will hope to be where the jazz are. They'll have an identity, certain voi-. So head coach, you think that being one of the best defensive teams in the league is something that they'll spire to do whether building the roster so far. Doesn't seem to make that a priority and your one year two. But but this is a three to five year plan. So I'm not going to judge that here, but we'll talk about the hawks, complete reset with Putin. Holes are moving onto Milwaukee is travel Schlink's organization, Al top to bottom and we'll talk about how things look there. Then the jazz. I'm not sure Greg fills as optimistic as I do about this jazz team heading into the season. I have them right in the same group of Houston being. Right behind right behind gold. Say, let states quite a bit ahead, but I think that they're just as likely to finish in the second seed as Houston is a birdie bullets, but would talk about whether or not making move the needle offensively with those, they have to do to really make progress. But I as quick news item trying to hit does, aren't they Murray gone for the season is already gone on the record when I did the free agency episode with Dane the to us that I felt like the Spurs were gonna be limited or maybe it was only covered the Spurs, maybe the three of us who are on, I can't remember, but my biggest concern was production at the point guard position. They've always relied on that. In order to kind of make be offense happen. And Murray talked about the fact he's not as shooter at all. Doesn't mean he can't become one. But he was an all NBA defensive player. Last year, a lot of people were I was seeing were making predictions that he's in a shortlist of guys that could win most improved player this year. But for me, you know, the guys that have been defending on the wings of that team, the last few years, Danny Green Mountain energy nobly for many years, obviously, and quad being the biggest one and all you know if a player of the year type of defender, I thought the fact that they're Rosser really is pretty devoid of like really above average defense of wings. And I thought that Murray's defensive versatility was going to be a massive part of their plan on defense. I was waiting to see how they fill take their offense. Assume it's going to go through the Marcus in the mid post all those sorts of things. But I think this does aren't they Murray was a massive part of helping cover on the wing on the perimeter on defense on that this massive blow. Oh, to the Spurs, and I don't see a person on the roster of that religion kind of step in and do anything close to what Murray can do defensively. I agree. I mean, this team that has as recently and has not been able to really fill out their depth with, you know, really sort of frontline rotational players. If you gotta be. Tender. Fortunately, shipper going very deep in the playoffs mean your six, seventh, eighth guy. I regard off the bench need to be borderlines starters, or would start for a lot of other NBA teams and. They're at the point now where they just don't have that level of depth..

"The National Basketball Association. We aim to provide an intellectual and analytical perspective to what is happening on the court. Here's your host. Glenn Willis. Okay, welcome back. I up no episode last week, so polish that we're going to try to get out this week and I think we got out the week before that. So hopefully that held folks over my life was just too crazy for the sake of my mental health. I just needed to not force myself into the time what it takes us. The record. Before we jump in today, we're covering Orlando and Sacramento today. Obviously, there's gonna be a strong focus on the youngsters, but both teams still in rebuild mode. One team has traffic wanting doesn't. We'll get into that, but just touching on Jimmy Butler situation, the kyri early situation. So news broke this past week. The Kyrie Irving is committing to staying in Boston beyond the season. Kyri is one of the least predictable personalities in the league. Alba leave that when I actually see him signed a contract, I know that they're gonna have to do some captain to fit him in the one accomplish. So it's not a simples me saying he contract now because that's not really feasible for the Celtics, but I still think Jimmy and Kyrie would like to play together. That doesn't seem to be working out very well for Jimmy, unless somehow the Boston. Makes offer to trade for Butler, and there's nothing on that, and it really doesn't make any sense there. So stacked at the wing, that doesn't really problem solve them apart from just getting more experienced player, but they're still a sending with wonderful young talent. So those sense at all. Think the last we heard grabbing you were telling me for jumped on clippers heat, are the front runners, right? Yeah, definitely they are in, I think is because basically those the two places where Jimmy has said he would sign a long term deal upon a trade. So obviously those are the two teams that would be willing to give up the most because they wouldn't have Jimmy for just one season. Of course. Yeah. So every if you've been listening to us very long, I pushed back against observation that a lot of people seem to have that when you aid, you're definitely going to the client at a kind of scientifically predictable rate. I push back on the all of the negativity of the Horford contract. When he said you're three or four are going to be bad. What you know, he's halfway through the contract and I had him. As the sixteenth best player in the league. So he's continued to improve. So I think you can make a case Al Horford a better player right now that he's ever been his career right predicted that year three start the sees a decline analyses like no one's expecting that with Jimmy Butler. He turned twenty nine few weeks ago last month, September. He'll be thirty when he's a free agent and there are real questions at franchises. What have to ask themselves? Do we want to give him a five-year max signs with a brand new team? It'd be a four year bags, obviously. But even there are some potential concern around that, not because specific because of his age, but he's only started seventy games one time in his career. Also, his defensive versatility is his best viable skill offer. A team often is asked to defend up at the three time. If you've been at the four, he's often asked to defend the other teams best offensive. Threats, even that's the point guard, he'll defend a wrestle Westbrook for example at times. And so I don't. I think there's I think it's also possible for time to to cultivate a market, really. I mean, it's only. Real case in air Casillas to get the clippers on the heat into a bidding war, and it seems like the heat and have made an offer that includes Josh Richardson at a bio and draft. Pick think that's a good get a really good for Jimmy Butler. I don't know why wouldn't take that unless he just doesn't want to trade Butler dos Richardson kind of profiles to be a guy who could grow into Jimmy Butler type of career at aids..

"Insights. Observations from around the National Basketball Association. We aim to provide an intellectual and analytical perspective to what is happening on the court. Here's your host. Glenn Willis. Okay. We're back Glenn and Greg here. Dean is still chasing Jimmy Butler news. That seems to be the topic of the week, the topic of the day each day. Now. But we'll talk about that win. And if transaction occurs sleigh this we heard is that he will not be present on Monday for media day. Timber was did well for themselves probably getting. The Karl Anthony towns extension announced they'll positive, talk about on media day and not have all the question solely focused on the status of Jimmy Butler so inevitable that you have a number one overall pick and. Almost always good that players going to end up on them ex contract after his rookie skill dill ends. That's is the case today, Greg, and I hear talk about the Celtics and the rockets, both teens loss in sub games in each respective conference finals. This jump right in Celtics lost Shane Larkin, Greg Monroe Abdel Nader added. I have Gordon Hayward because he's basically, at addition really didn't play for them at all the he was out. His injuries was the cause of the first time out on opening night. Robert Williams in the draft, no questions about his talent Assam questions about his makeup and his work ethic cetera. "The National Basketball Association. We aim to provide an intellectual and analytical perspective to what is happening on the court. Here's your host. Glenn Willis. We're back. It's August, and there's not a whole lot on the league. But this is when we porce. Give our opinions of perspective. The things that's happened of the today, we're gonna talk about the Sixers who didn't really run back Zach saving group, but a very similar Rosser to last year. We'll see brecca dating, see it that way or not kind of to be a does, and then I get stayed some interesting stuff. What would they get all of that? But we did have some excitement today something to react to the west gate around IRS or publish today a few hours before we're going to record. So just going to open with a little with a quick reaction to that. And I had asked for to prepare for biggest surprise which over under surprised you the most. And then if you had one and can only about one, what would you bet be now I'm going to take advantage of my hosts position here and go, I just to make sure another of you still thunder. I tend to use like Alaska's hosts. It's kind of a normal thing I think is the be pleasant, west your gas, etc. But not not what's go. So my biggest one was the Knicks twenty nine and a half with Kristaps dot project. You back at dull sometime in February, had not really knowing what to expect of them. Last year after Kristaps went down only the grizzlies at sons who had a worse record in the league. They were the Knicks or six twenty one a net rating of negative eight point eight after Kristaps was out for the season and they had the worst. If it's the rating during that stretch, they played eighteen win pace, which makes the me that twenty nine and a half, like very big. I know everyone got excited about Kevin Knox summer league, and everyone is excited about mental Robinson and they should be in terms of the prospects that they are, but they're not going to help them that much this year, especially considering the a lot of their issues last year were on the fifth on the court. But if I had to make one bet, I'm going to take that Dallas over at thirty four and a half deejays at center going to prove their defense quite a bit. I think good coach of the seems like Mark, Cuban really wants this team to chase. It could season very likely. They all have their first round draft pick next year. I like the yoga's back. I think he's a helpful guy playing the junior while he's still tries to figure out a bit could be Dirks last season in a think. Cuban kinda wanna do the could to make that as something to celebrate as much as possible. The landscape of the conferences. Tough. And I know that we don't usually look for help from rookies see my comments on the Knicks, but both dodge and Brunson are probably as NBA ready as any players in the draft class. I do think that they'll be more helpful to this team than most other rookies in this draft class would be for their teams. So if I had the place about might place this, if I can find someone heading Vegas between now and then shirt could find someone you gotta wait, gambling's, legal man, just the that's some more MBA news that happened this week and has actually important for the long term landscape of the league is that the NBA did make that merger or partnership with MGM official. And so I that be for salary, cap reasons and adding more revenue to the league. I mean, that is going to be related to what we're talking about, but just a big thing that this is going to be part of the NBA conversation is is talking about gambling. On basketball and I didn't know that they've already launched something. Yeah, they're just partnered with MGM. I saw that know if they were already making online best available nationwide. No, it'd be it's it's state by state. So it's just a few out east and then than Vegas for now, but it'll be it'll be handled one St. at a time..

"Colin kaepernick a job this isn't the the difference about with the nfl versus the national basketball association the players they have a say the little brian james the kevin durant the stuff they have influence major influence on their teams in that league within or their organisation one chris jackson and craig hodges got ran out of the nba is because the nba so tolerant in the nfl is well no i'm not i'm not saying now i'm not saying that but but you have you didn't have players standing up in supporting them like you have now but in the nfl this about the shield first not the players players know in players know that college football's about the coach absolute air she and so for me i think it's great that aaron rogers a the most the number one takeaway that i took away from this was he said i don't understand but i do what i do understand is that it is an issue in that my position is completely different than mayors my my experiences are different than theirs but i support them in what they what they go through and what they have the deal with i know i don't have to the 25 years i've been doing this nobody ever comes up with in says i love what you said about this although i totally disagree we are in a society now that seeks affirmation not information what i like about this story is aaron's on one side and dax on the other and i agree with both of.

"It's return the national basketball association and michael jordan who made some more news and his flight school basketball camp today mj was asked if he breaks lebrun ahead of kobe all time and said no because quote five beats three coward do you agree with jordan the kobe is better than lubrani or is this the 13th shot at lebron this week did i mean seriously all right now this should be you know how you have you have like certain holidays in certain weeks in national hot dog day this is national offering today's national beat up and take shots at lebron week this is the fourth this week i don't i don't know of michaels piling on here as much as michaels being petty look kobe bryant impersonated michael jordan so why wouldn't michael joint my imitations better than lebron's aimed which is absolutely silly listen four mvp trophies are better than one doing it as the premier player winning three championships as the premier player on all three teams is better than two cobi you know the three years the threetime does he woman shack shack was the better player my pay or the more important player in my opinion so listen man i've said this long before lebrun had his second and third titles he's better in kobe bryant as feels petty and michael has a history being petty that's not a shot at all in my opinion the kobe bryant we great lubrani joins a once in a lifetime town kobe's after magic and jabbah with the lakers he's not even top two so how could it be ahead of a broader silly but the the best part is if you go on social media today all these kkob fans they're like the beyond say sand with justin bieber fan legal crazy oh that's what they are ya and they'll come after you oh no kkob look at this look at us like you said he was a caddy for shack for those first three titles it's 9 o'clock i play with kobe and the unique part about him was his ability to block out out everything else in just go play he was a beast on the court tough teammate to play with unlike lebron but the braun from day one chosen one sports illustrated it was always going to be hard for him the garnered that kind of.
