"As promised. We're joined right now by a three time Super Bowl champion. He is a two time AP Coach of the Year. He is a member of the 1/100 anniversary all time Team a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a five time NASCAR Cup series champion, a four time Daytona 500 champion. A member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. And today, he does appear courtesy of Eminem's and treat town. Of course I'm speaking of Joe Gibbs. Joe. It is so good to have you back on the program. How are you? Hey, Jim. Thank you Appreciate that introduction. I didn't know I did all that stuff, man. Joe, you've had a great great run, and I know you've got some basic years still in front of you. In fact, let me ask you about Denny Hamlin. He won on Sunday at Talladega after three overtimes in a wild race. I'm curious. What kind of thoughts and emotions were having in the final moments of that raised you? Well, I gotta tell you, you're you're right is three times we kind of at the end of that race. We have tto have a restart, And when you do that in our sport, there's no telling what's gonna happen and A lot did happen, but they have Denny when that race eyes Ah, it's Denny's The you know all time here for him. And of course, what is huge for us. FedEx is his sponsor and has been the entire time Danny's race for us. And for him to win seven times this year is a huge deal. When you're a Talladega like that, and are racing Ah, there is a lot happening there was in that race. And so I think a lot of the fans thought it was great. Certainly for me to have Danny win was a huge deal for us and Fed ex. We're talking to Joe Gibbs and then overall Joe. His spot is now in the round of eight that's guaranteed and at the moment, Martin Truex Jr is six in the standings. Kyle Busch is ninth overall. So how are you feeling about where things stand at this point in the play offs? Well, I still think, Martin Hey, had a great road hold less. The next race we go to here and sharp. We're worried obviously with Kyle, and it's a huge deal for us. Kyle won the championship last year, and it's one of those things with all the changes that happen in our sport. Because of Cove it when we go to the racetrack, we don't practice right now. All of those things I think of really been something for their spent hard for us to overcome, particularly with cow. And so this will be interesting to see if we can fight through this and get to the next round with him. But right now we're going to have to have a great races. Roble talking to Joe Gibbs. He's a member of the NASCAR Hall fame. He's appearing courtesy of Eminem's and Tree town. Enjoy know you had a chuckle the top and I read down your resume. But the fact of the matter is, I know you're not going to make it about you. But almost nobody else has a resume quite like this, including being in the Hall of Fame in two different sports again. I know you're not doing it for personal accolades. But what do those two honors mean to you? Yeah. You know what happens? You know, Jim for May and we had a reunion here four years ago. Where all of our Super Bowl guys, we had 90 of them come back. And we had a three day celebration told stories and everything for me. It's about that and the relationships. And all the all the experiences you had the memories. Tough things you go through in football. Football is a physical and your challenge you're challenged every single weekend. It's the best people in the world playing football and They put you through all those things, And when you come out the other side of that you develop some of the greatest relationships. And so that's what I kind of miss about football. You know, it's those late night meetings with the coaches. And you fight to do all the things and trying to come up with the best game plan you can, and I think it's extremely hard. The NFL is hard, but it also, I think is one of the greatest job in the world and has Some of the greatest thrills and the world so that I kind of look back at that. For me. It's mostly relationships. I really appreciate that response, Jo and in a similar vein, you know last year in a conversation with the athletic, you were talking about evaluating talent back in the day with Washington, and you said the most important thing was character. And then the second most important thing, or actually, it was intelligence, then mental toughness and then finally, talent. I'm curious, Joe Wise character so important to you. And why was talent? The least important of those attributes. Well, I think you start off. With character, and I think back to those football teams. And you know the thing that there was amazing about that. Jim is when we went back and looked at our our our Super Bowl teams. One half of those teams were free agents. And what that meant was this. They were either not drafted or have been cut by somebody. And yet when they come on our team character takes over when you have character guys. It's not about the money. If they want to be the best. Football player for your team. They could be the best Washington football and I looked in the eyes of those guys. When I would talk to him and many times it was emotional before those games. They weren't the the the guys. That kind of leisure. The Super Bowl's on everything. It is about the kind of person they are and what they bring to the team. Many times, people ask me. Hey, tell me who's the greatest player you coached? I can't do that. Because some of the greatest players I start out with Otis Wassily impede crone and and people like that they go. Sure they were great special teams. Players for us. They were the heart and soul..

"And by the way, does have twelve top ten finishes and just twenty five starts in that season in that series not that season. And that race where he was half a lap. Short of the win was Texas last November. That was just just aggravating. He ran out of gas thin. I was yelling you were. You were that passionate about it. I was well, I don't see you yelling about many people other than Jimmy Johnson. Well, I like. To see believe it or not I like to see the younger guys do well that really surprises me. Actually. I know it would I knew it would see I come off as this guy who doesn't care, but my care. Okay. Well, that's good that that makes me feel good about new caring. All right. You're gonna notice a lot of these stories are plucked right from Toby Christie dot com, but not this one. I mean, not yet. Anyway. Race cars on the race track. This weekend. I could not be more excited. See that would be the level of excitement. Of course, it's the Rolex twenty four hour endurance race from Daytona racing. Notables in the race include Juan Pablo on toyah, so expect a big fireball at some point Fernando Alonzo. He's a Formula one superstar Helio Elliott Castro. Neves Alexander Rossi Simon pageant. Scott dixon. Austin syndrich Justin marks AJ, almond Dinger and more. Check out all the action this weekend, mostly on NBC or their mobile app. Right. So this brings a question to my mind carry if you were in the Rolex twenty four, and you one what would you what would you do with your twenty four Rolexes? I would put them up and down both arms at various different sizes. And it would just be my sleeves. That is ridiculous. That'd be my slaves. That's absolutely ridiculous. And I would have all the time zone set comedy. That's actually the right amount of time to that's perfect. So that well, see, I know stuff. And then if somebody I'm walking down the street with twenty four Rolexes if I don't get mugged and someone walks up to me and asks what time is it in Bulgaria? I'll know right. Although I think if somebody was trying to mug you they'd look at and go, maybe this is trap. He's twenty four of them. Just hanging out there. I don't think that would be a wise thing to do wearing one Rolex. You're putting your life at risk, right? So you'd had twenty four twelve on each arm. You're gonna walk away with no arms. Rip the arms out and take him for the Rolexes. So that I would be just a walking torso. Yes. Of course. Hey, five time winner. Scott Pruitt is going to be the grand Marshall. That's pretty cool. That's awesome. And I think he deserves a spot in the NASCAR hall fame someday. You got well. Oh, no. We're going to save this next one for later. So don't say anything about that one. Okay. Yeah. See now, people are really what was the next story. What what are they they actually remember that is the that's. Knowing us that is the ultimate tease right there. But up next my favorite interview from the twenty eighteen NASCAR season that I went one on one with Ryan Blaney. So listen to it again and enjoy T F L ws on forty Jimmy Johnson. And I get my news on the final lap with Kerry. Murphy. This is the final land weekly. On the final. Once again is a Ryan Blaney. Welcome to the program. Thanks, all right. Last time. We talked you hadn't yet seen solo. So I gotta get your thoughts. Changed by now. Right. Come on what Mr. Star Wars. I read the reviews and heard bad things. And I just didn't wanna go see it. All right. I actually was on a flight to Hawaii. And it was on the plane. I could only get through half of it. Really? Oh, just because. Oh, I didn't like it. Having seen it goes. I don't want. I want to be so disappointed. That's weird. Isn't it? I mean, are they just making too many of these or what? Question, you know, about Star Wars about, you know, all these ones that are coming out just in a short amount of years..
