Reasons to Believe Founder Hugh Ross On How the Sun Affects Life on Earth

"Hey there folks, I'm talking to Hugh Ross. He is the founder and president of reasons to believe an extraordinary ministry and organization that has helped me a lot in making sense of how science accords with the God of the scripture, it's just wonderful to have you as my guest who we were just talking about something I don't think that I've heard before. You said that the earth in recent years very recently happens to be coinciding at a time when the sun is optimal for a planet like ours for life thriving on a planet like ours. And you said that window that perfect window is about a hundred thousand years where roughly halfway through that, what happened? What was the sun doing in the day of the dinosaurs or during the Cambrian era? How did that affect life on earth? Well, the windows fairly broad per bacterial life, about 4 billion years wide. For advanced global human civilization, that's where it's extremely narrow. And the time of the dinosaurs, the sun's fluttering activity was considerably greater than it is now. But they did not to worry about power grids being knocked out or the food supply being wiped out. So they did find what the sun having greater flaring activity. They did okay without having more x-ray and a gamma ray activity than it does right now. It's we humans that are most sensitive to that, and I got a new book come on and fine tuning, designed to the core, or I make the point that right now, the sun's luminosity stability is 5 times more stable than the next most stable star we can see anywhere in our entire

You're exactly right and what you have to go back even because the beginning of kovin and look how we approach this to me. Even though i kept saying the spending is too much there was bipartisanship under president trump and under leader mcconnell but what you have with biden in the white house and pelosi and shuler in charge. Facebook Has Struggled to Address COVID-19 Misinformation on It's Platform

"From the start of the pandemic facebook and it's ceo. Mark zuckerberg have talked publicly. About how seriously they take this crisis. Here's what zuckerberg told cnn back. In april twenty twenty. So i think one of the most important functions that facebook and our acts can do right now is help. Connect people with authoritative health information and experts at the same time to limit the spread of misinformation. But despite that goal facebook has struggled to address foles health information on its platforms. That's continued throughout the rollout of cova vaccines and they became so widespread that well. Here's how president biden described the misinformation back in july really look only pandemic you have is among unvaccinated other. Killing people policing unsubstantiated. Health claims has become a key problem for facebook one. The company has struggled to address even after warnings from employees reporters. Sam schechner is part of the investigative team. That's been working on this story. And he joins me now. Hi sam thanks for being here. Thanks for having me so sam. I think a lot of people who've been on facebook in the last year and a half have seen misinformation about the pandemic and about vaccines. Why is it so hard for facebook to take it all down. I think facebook would say this is a tough problem with a tough adversary. It's not like anti vaccine or new to facebook. They've mobilized on social media and in particular on facebook and in our reporting we've seen internal documents that show that this was an issue. This is something that they tackled in the years before the pandemic they were working on ways to identify who were in these antitax groups they develop policies that some you know certain types of content should be removed and when the pandemic hit these policies were in place so if public health authorities said that a certain type of claim wasn't just false but could cause imminent harm than they would remove that but that's a pretty narrow standard

Sebastian Reminisces About His Time in the Oval Office With Donald Trump

"Me share a story here. I was in the oval office with president trump. Just the two of us which rarely happens. The oval office has Well it has an entrance way from the out of office and then it has a little narrow door that goes to private eating area and little place for the president. Just sit and read. Didn't be by himself. And then it has the door to the the west wing where guests come through so you rarely in there alone. I was in with the most powerful man in the world and it is a humbling feeling truly as an immigrant to the united states. Somebody who wasn't born here. Who has an accident who always will who only became a citizen. Three years prior to be alone in the oval office is something yukon express. And i was in there on other business if i remember. Well i think it was Iran deal I was one of the two people though building. In addition to the president wanted to kill the iran deal. God bless into finally doing in the face of people like hr mcmaster tillerson mnuchin. All the other fake america first. And i was about to leave still talking about something to do with iran and the president looked at is hand. He got this very serious expression. Yeah he's a very jovial person. It's to great great sense of humor. But suddenly his face froze who's reminded of something on that piece of paper or just something came to mind when he said i really don't want americans to die on the korean peninsula. I did not want to get us into another shooting war in korea. He understood the threat. Remember the hermit kingdom under kim launching ballistic missiles over the japan intimidating our friends in our allies but despite never having said he went to a military high school but despite never having served he really undestood the weight. The inordinate responsibility carried by the person who is commander-in-chief

Colorism in the Bedroom With Sex Therapist Dr. Donna Oriowo

"Wondering if we could start off a little bit with you just sharing a bit of the work that it is that you do and how you got to this point well I'm a sexual relationship therapist at focus in on. How color isn't intellectualism impact in sexual health. I got into this work because people kept telling me. And i was comfortable enough to talk to them about sex and sexuality but i felt like there were missing pieces when i went to school so then trying to figure out like okay. How do you bridge the gap and those missing pieces that you're noticing and with the people that you know you want to serve So in doing that work at like it's just been like a slow bill of these all these other pieces because when you start your own practice you know everybody and they momma is willing to give you some advice but sometimes advice. We have four you. It's about their fears and the concerns that they had in creating a business. And not about you though. I remember people telling me out. You're using to me black photos on your website. Oh don't need down so much more of a generalist. So everybody could see you as that of narrowing it all the way down and i just had to realize that if you are generalists you don't see the people that you wanna see and if you don't have the pictures of the people that you serve. They don't know that they are being served. They may still come but they don't know that you're there your priority so for me of being more of a like a no brainer had to go back in just change What i had been told and religious think into what is best for me most authentic for me and that has allowed a non brighthouse flourish in the way that it has a started off as a solo a solo practitioner. And now i have a team of three other people currently working

Are You a Dieter or Disordered Eater?

"We're going to look at. How dieting and disordered eating are similar. We're gonna look at what disordered eating looks like. And then we're also going to talk about what you can do to heal from disordered eating how you can start to take action if this is something that you struggle with. So we'll start by talking about what disordered eating actually is. And then i'll share with you. How dieting is very similar to disordered eating so when we look at the definition of disordered. Eating it's really used to describe a range of irregular eating behaviors. And it's important to know that this is just a description. It is not a diagnosis. So disordered eating is not a diagnosis. But it doesn't mean that it's not a valid struggle which will talk about a little bit. Everyone who struggles with an eating disorder has disordered eating. But not everyone who has disordered eating struggle with an eating disorder. So i think that's a really important distinction here An eating disorder must fit a very specific narrow criteria in order to be diagnosed and disordered. Eating doesn't have to fit that particular narrow definition And also it's not a diagnosis. But here's the thing. I really don't want you to get caught up in the fact that there is no official diagnosis for disordered eating. Because that doesn't mean that your struggles aren't real. It doesn't mean that they aren't valid. You do not need a diagnosis in order to get support in order to ask for help in order to know that what you are going through is really

Building Your B2B Content Team in 2021 With Wordable CEO Brad Smith

"When you're thinking about doing something like a migration when you're building a new website when you're just looking at your beginning of the year plan how do you think about be to be content strategy something we're thinking about a lot for the mar tech podcast but making sure that you're being roi driven. What's your advice orcher. Yeah it's really challenging and it's also a good segue actually because monday dot coms one of our clients enter code list so we've done a lot of content for them. It's really hard for me to be because you can't just it's a longer sale cycle number one number two. There's there's less of a direct conversion event so for example or like a software company you could write about topic xyz and someone's gonna read that and then someone's going to opt in or do a trial or something else right after that. Because it's a very narrow like very low hurdle or lombardo jump over for bbc. It's usually tupper because there's more people involved in sale usually more complex sale and so we do really think of it as a couple of things classic marketing funnel so top middle bottom where we doing content of why for example stuff like case study content stuff like customer interviews while that stuff's going to be really good for like middle ish of the funnel bottom of the funnel could also include like comparison. So we might do monday. Dot com versus asana or monday dot com versus click. Up would be another example of that to be able to show not just from trite example of like. Oh well this tools better because because we say it is but really talking to educate consumers who are going to do that research and do wanna see more like a side by side comparison and understand. Who's better in. Why for their circumstance. So i think it's it's a little more challenging for me to be because again. There's it's usually like a layered multi step approach. I think that you know when. I put my digital marketing hat on not just my seo content marketing hat on a couple of things that you said stick out which is long sales cycle. And you never really know where someone is in that sale cycle whether you're building awareness whether they're inconsideration but what really matters when they get to the bottom of your funnel when they are actually in market. Do they have awareness. Would they consider your product

What Brazil's New Social Media Rules Mean for the Internet

"President. Jaya bolsonaro signed a decree on monday that temporarily bands social media platforms from removing many types of content including misinformation about cova nineteen and the country's upcoming presidential election brazil's new rules appear to be the first in the world to make certain types of content take downs illegal under national law even as other national governments around the world implement rules that force social media companies to take down more types of content proactively. What do the rule say the decree targets. What bolsonaro presidential press office called arbitrary removal of content including accounts profiles and posts under the new rules. Tech companies must only remove posts if they fall under a narrow set of definitions including terrorism threats of violence sexual crimes and cyber attacks and less. They obtain a court order. The measures would prevent social media companies from easily removing content including medical and political misinformation. Bolsonaro has repeatedly posted misinformation about covert nineteen and has claimed. That voter fraud would be the only explanation if he loses the upcoming october. Twenty twenty two presidential election. Something pollsters say is likely facebook. Twitter and youtube have all previously removed kovic misinformation shared by bolsonaro. The rules are bad news for brazil. Havi air palero. The argentina based policy director for the digital rights group access now told time adding that the decree ties the hands of internet platforms to deal with hate speech disinformation campaigns and coordinated harassment. We need democratic rules to make content moderation and platforms more transparent fair and accountable palero said but these attempts from illiberal politicians are far from that and aim only at giving a free pass to anti democratic speech.

But now he has to deal with four new wineman and i think offensive will be fine in october. I don't think it's going to be a week. One not against that washington defensive front and first time. We'll keep track of them all year long. So tomorrow is the big event. Black gold golf club and yorba linda. We will be playing in the match that has been hyped and sold and pumped up for three months now me versus ireland hole by hole coverage starting at seven thirty. Am hosted by greg bergman and christopher morales on social media at espn los angeles on twitter. Instagram gregor you ready to be the play by play guy or the analyst in this. Yes i am. It's gonna be a lot of morales. Morales does like to get his say in everywhere but yeah we are going to be making fun of both of you guys. Call everything making fun of your swing coaches being there with you. Your don't don't make fun of the great derek allen. I'm not waiting for him. Making fun of you. Guys for having swing coaches on the swing coach. travis travis. chris coach swing. Derek is gonna talk me through every single shot. That's what's going to be funny layup here layup here. You're gonna lay up on a lot of holes you have twenty seven strokes It'll it'll be that that will be. Yeah that'll be tomorrow. Live from black gold. Part of the drama here is seeing if mason can get anywhere at seven o'clock in the morning. When's the last time you had to be at work at seven o'clock in the morning probably back when we were doing mornings. Nineteen ninety eight something like that. Seven o'clock is a rumor to me. It's going to be hard by the way you have. We all have our own specialty drinks that they're serving tomorrow. I'm going to drink yours first thing in the morning before replay. It's the ireland's irish coffee. It's jamison and coffee so it's gonna it's gonna mellow me out and height me up at the same time. That's exactly what i need. First thing in the morning is coffee to get you going. Coffee to give god. I hope there's a starbucks near the cheap hotel that i bought myself black gold. Oh yeah yeah i'm gonna have to chug it man. I'm gonna coffee. You'll be fine. Yeah all right so Steve fezzet coming up for you in just a couple of minutes One of the big news stories of the day is that the dodgers lost today to one. They fall in two and a half games behind the giants and the nationally west day. Put out a lineup. That was absolute crap today. Bellinger batted fifth steven souza. Junior batted sixth. Seventh was billy mckinney. An eighth was austin barnes between the four. I think they're like five for their last. A hundred and fifty something like that. And there's really no explanation. For why dave roberts and andrew friedman would be doing that when we are in a pennant race just two and a half games behind and chasing the giants well and the other thing is it. Maybe they wanted to rest up for this series that opens tomorrow night at dodger stadium against the padres and mace. Take the padres in the standings. These are must win. Game san diego. They are desperately trying to hang on to the second wildcard spot. So these three games tomorrow. Saturday and sunday could be a preview of the one game playoff right. But why surrender today. I have no answer for that. Why surrender today waving the white flag putting that lineup out. There is waving the white flag. The only thing. I liked about that lineup. Though was that at the top of the lineup they put mookie betts one where he's better and they had trade turner who's on like that is wall street and the three spot. I did like that but then everything else behind it was garbage. I don't know why you would even think about giving away a game period at any point in september. It just shouldn't happen. So i mean having bellinger in the fire spot makes zero sense to me especially what happened actually happened. Yeah basis load and he pops up. Yeah that's it got to him and he popped up you know. I brought this up on twitter. yesterday. I'm curious to get your guys reaction if you're a dodger fan if you need one hit for everything you need somebody to deliver at the plate. Who do you want at the plate. And i think there are multiple good answers to this. John what do you think the first name that popped in my head was seger but then i thought that's what you pay bets for. Justin turner is kind of that. Been that guy for the team and the guy who for whatever has come up time and time and time again. This year is will smith. Yes he has. He's been very i would. Question is the pitcher right. Handed pitchers right handed seger. If he's left handed gimme turner okay. And by the way you're go. It would have been mookie but he's not he hasn't had the year that i don't feel bad when mckie's at the plate i don't i yeah. I just don't get that sense of certainty burger. What about you. I think he's still got go. Jt here he's been the guy that gets you all the big hits for the last couple of years and has been getting big. It's this year the only other one is either will smith or in trae turner. Those are the guys that i kind of went up there. Yeah i see. I've got i've got. I think it's got to be turner. He's come through times Justin he's come through through for a so many times over the years in critical moments i think. Jt is who i want. And i think seger nationally c. s. Most valuable player world series. Most valuable player seger has got to be there. And i was not a seger fan coming into last season. But he has developed much more plate discipline he used to be. Just swing at the first pitch swing at wild pitches. I mean he had no sense of the strike zone but he has developed that and that makes him really really dangerous and and will smith is clutch as hell. I feel good. When will smith is do. I feel like every hit. That he gets is in seventh or later if he hits a home run dry the game or to give them aid is do you guys kershaw scheduled to start this week. Monday monday monday. They're not gonna hit the padres correct correct. He's gone up and he probably will only throw like four innings. Five innings max..

"Are a part of a team that is releasing a new media. Publication called the puck. Website puck dot news. And i couldn't help start the conversation. And when i went to the website it's simply says a new media company covering power money and ego and those three words i think Elicit all kinds of emotional responses from people power money and ego But you've been writing about a lot of the stuff for a while. Where does the personal fascination or interests come from in covering some of these topics so in some ways. The role is very big and in some ways. It's very small What what. I mean by that is there. Are you know. Three hundred and fifty million people in the united states But a very small number of people have enormous amount of influence in american society. People who like you know. I think lots of listeners might not even know their names if you look at the floors four hundred list from time to time. I'm always Humor that like how many people even as someone who covers billionaires. I have never heard of you know people who have thirty forty billion dollars who made their money in some got awful boring industry Who have enormous amount of assets and can convert that into political influence rob against wince Influence in just kind of in public life more so pucks. Kind of central conceit is that the world is actually driven by a small number of people And that there is a big world that is governed by people in hollywood people in washington people on wall street people in silicon valley And that ultimately that that world needs to be a unspoiled for the rest of us to understand and these rather also. I feel like often very are treated as isolated power sectors right people in hollywood who cover hollywood really wealthy people on wall street. Who covered the or system really. Well you know. I've covered silicon valley This is actually really one world right. The people on wall street have influenced in washington. People washington or regular people in silicon valley and silicon valley is attacking hollywood and creeping on kind of traditional studios. So one of the other ideas of pop is that. Let's let's kind of narrow the synapse here and try to really uncover this as one world

Nicki cullen former atlanta head coach. They've already gone through two of those this season. Anyway we digress Nikki collins said that. I guess this came from the coaches committee or whatever situation. The coaches meetings the idea to have so many games on the last day of the wnba. As i understand is so that you're not maybe throwing games to kind of then be able to figure out if you're if you're already clinched a playoff spot like if i throw this game than this benefits me in this way and i if i reme if i recall correctly that's how that happened so sunday. "The road in tj. Three a shock. I'm mark not a traditional choice for a podcast is still my favorite mark. My voice when. I'm speaking completely in awe selection if it's just going to be may on the recording like maybe on the bubble podcast for example which is a tv podcast that. I don't like a hubby cher. That mock works. Great for that when i think about what. I'd like to san locked recorded. That mike doesn't fill me. It gets me there but there are a few issues with the mark being a super cardio. Patent mania has a very taught pickup patent in front of the microphone. Basically when those patents start to become more narrow it does open up a window at the back of the marker fine for whatever reason physics that you will sell a some re noise problems. So if you've got a holly reflective surface directly behind the mic or annoy souls like a small feign or an air conditioner on the wall directly behind the mock you will mice lockley pick up more of that san than you're expecting to and the other thing is and this is something that ryo tiger actually mentioned to me that ryo tiger from the podcast. Roundtable shukan mocks. Ken behave little bit strangely in very small rooms and i mean a very small room at the moment. This is a small bedroom. That i mean now so i don't use it in. He because when tested adding this is the smallest of ever obtaining podcasting was basically just the studio and that it does and very booming here. And i'm not sure why is just the way does marks wick. It does tend to send muddy if it's not in exactly the right place in the room. Like i could find a spot in this room but i had to three lodge catches in so unless i'm going to record standing up talking to that mike where can move around a little bit. I'm kind of limited. As to where i can actually position myself. Sorry i would bar. I shock on mike and try in your space. I if at all possible because in my opinion you're either gonna get close to the best vocal sant that you're gonna be able to get or it could be really hard to deal with

And a host of european countries told airlines not to fly over the airspace of belarus. Now reuters is reporting the e. u. is preparing a round of sanctions on about a dozen of belarus aviation officials. This is after that country forced a commercial flight to divert in land in minsk or authorities arrested an opposition journalist for belarus the money forfeited when airlines. Don't fly overhead is significant my marketplace colleague. The bbc's victoria craig has that hours into a long flight. There's one thing we all do. Count on the screen in front of us. The miles and countries we've passed airlines also. Pay attention to those miles not to track. A plane's progress but to calculate how much they'll be charged to fly over each country's airspace a fee structure is necessary to fund traffic services in each country and those fees referred to as overflight fees that simon hunkered director of the civil air navigation services organisation some countries charge a flat fee because the routing of the country. Very ready changes and. It's much much simpler to administrate the. Us has two different prices. If you fly over the land they charge about sixty dollars per one hundred cameras if you five ocean draw down to just over twenty five dollars prices. He said vary depending on things like the size of the aircraft or distance. Flown these overflight fees are away for countries to cover costs of air traffic control services but they can also be used as geopolitical bargaining tools. As we've seen in the dispute with belarus that stopped european flights over the country's airspace happened. A of international law at the university of luxembourg. Explains how these kinds of targeted sanctions work. They are intended to influence behavior. And i think they were an expression of condemnation in this case. I think with belarus. It's about showing solidarity with the opposition before the flight ban which european authorities said was enacted for passenger safety about four hundred planes. A day passed through belarusian airspace. That's according to eurocontrol which bills and collects air navigation charges on behalf of belarus and other nations. It says in twenty nineteen it build more than one hundred million dollars and overflight fees for belarus. That might seem like a lot. But as professor harold explained the economic impact of sanctions preventing those flights is likely limited. Easy going to have an enormous impact on belarus in government finances. I suspect that she's a hit. The they will be willing to take so if sticks in the form of cutting off flight. Fees don't work in europe's negotiation with belarus eu boss ursula von der. Lyon has another tool in her box. A carrot in the form of a three point six billion dollar economic support package but only on the condition belarusian president alexander lukashenko leaves power. That is an offer. A man known as europe's last dictator though is unlikely to take in london. "Else you can piece rod off as a record label and as a mother fucking establishment. Yes i like this. This is my favorite collectible. Why yeah. I absolutely get way of saying and i guess before we get into full detail and discussions and you know To get to the depths of this film spoiler spoiler spoiler or in this case trade trader trader friends and love. You notice traded to us. If you listen we love you just as well but the reason why i mentioned that is because i'm going to come to the end of the film. So this film is book ended with Talking heads which we come to find out from documentary the early onscreen interview that bill. O.'neil has done at this thought. It was a fictionalized lakeith stanfield and then at the end it was the actual filler nail right and the reason why i wanted to bring this up is because he makes a comment there where he says. I saw that something needed to be done. So i went and did it. I'm not like those people. I think he called them passive or something. I'm not like those people that just sit there and do nothing. But i would actually dispute not the fact that he went and did something but the fact that he actually did worse than the people that sat in did nothing. Because you know. There's quite a contrast and i won't get into it too much now because i do want us to talk about it but you know jesse. Clemens is character. Roy he talks about. How very very casually very nonchalantly he'll talk about. How the clan. And the panthers are exactly the same and that is that is a problem the fact that he sees them as you know the bear optics the same the fact that they incite hatred without recognizing it was such a stock comparison looking to the fbi and noticing. It was a room of white men. And maybe they did inert us that but to notice that the system was built for you and the panthers exist to try and help build that sort of equality is something that he was completely missing the mock for him right. Something that the panthers would do would get way more scrutiny than what the clan will do and what the clan continued to black wall street for example right so i i definitely want to go into more detail in regards to that but i just wanted to talk a bit about that statement that biller neal made because that was his justification which credits of the film. That's exactly what we saw. And that's what lay cave Portrayed right at least i did. Something may ask him for fucking bare minimum. You know bama before you to see it out and see how everything unfold You purposefully undermined revolution happening right before your eyes something bigger than anyone could have anticipated to benefit you and people that look like you. Dread fucking hampson was uniting. Everyone everyone yeah and what this idiot comes in pretends to be part of it you know even probably three him a bone being altieri and conflicted about fucking. David did not funky hobby motion when he did that. He you know what i think. I'm getting too original. Where by the end of the episode just screaming at you told it down a bit. You'll be lean you'll be my shoot episode and our species. Yes so they pretend he wants if he was conflicted and i was there. I can't say for fact about just based on the characters. I know who value themselves about everything else especially lack this when you possibly know what's fucking five years in jail. What's that fred was gonna do five years and he was getting a his wife was pregnant. And it's just ridiculous. The contrast between fred and bill. Yeah you know. He's a guy who despite his e-street was swindling he was his stealing qasem. Want not by then when he joined blocked those opportunity for him to do something. Some good you know. Probably he did a little bit of walk here and there and apparently credit to him all building Helping to rebuild the blockbuster headquarters once it was blown up. You can't pick and choose ideologies right. Because all of what fred hampton was saying and how impassioned he was in his speeches was falling upon traitorous fees. because how can he just take the pots that he likes but he also neglects. There was a very recurring theme. That fred hampton had in his dialogue throughout the film and it was that how is people. And it's exactly what you were saying that it can take one person for revolution to fool so as much as he. He felt so good and he was feeling the vibes and he felt belonging and community and he was feeling like there was a sense of healing being part of the black panthers. Like you said it was awful fucking naught because he still went back and fed information more than i thought he needed to be perfectly honest but it seemed like he had learn loyalty to anyone being threatened with jail time five years three years or seven years older by on off to it to bring down a movement wanted to help people that wanted to free people and a lot of people and i'm not scared not scared the big man. Yeah then you can't demonize one race. You can't humanize one racist. It started just a block people. You know everyone's uniting because there's an issue and he's actions how many is now. We're still fucking balloon the same problems. It's my employees. You know the heat felt justified and he taught history team of some sort of fucking hero for doing his own getting his own. Fucking gas station is finally probably benefiting up until now. His two hundred two hundred thousand dollars is made off the fbi. Being former may not even baba's money you know the while. Yeah okay and i feel very strongly against this character and i feel loved the sooner we focus on the the better all right. Well let's get into it friends and lovers. I just wanted to comment on something That i picked up on throughout the film. And i just wanted to know your thoughts on it because you know a lot of the time when way talking about films that cover race and fighting for quality it's black americans versus white americans but if felt very deliberate to me that the fight was from within the camps albeit You know bill was being a puppet. He was still judah fool and he was still of enough to have the responsibility of taking down his art. And that was something that i just. I just couldn't reconcile. I couldn't reconcile. And you know that little katie hot me was hoping that in the last minute you know he will just turn around and not betray his own. People know but you gotta tearfully seen him very conflicted very sorry for he did. Yeah but then moments after he will go and spew out the information so it. It's more that i. I was very conscious of the fact that it was called judas and the black missiles so there's a little weightiness in the title. So you know shame on me thinking that i was gonna get that that that moment and i didn't want it for bill. I wanted for myself so it was a very selfish thing while i was watching the film but i don't believe he deserved any sort of recompense. Laurie composite all our thank when hoover. Put a pain on fred and we saw disciplines character. Roy in yours going down. He was like yeah. I'll come out. What's the best new. Bring this people down you know. And a soon as he got his grasp on bill we knew exactly what is going to be. It was gonna let a trojan horse. Yeah and just -cause all the fucking kale's and to me when when we had judy doubt bills intentions had an answer for fucking everything. Since when does someone have an ensemble. Every single irregularity lack.

"Different. I mean i. I think i've always. I don't know that i would have recognized it earlier. But i've always been a verbal processor although whiteboards are important too but in the past as i've processed things we've talked about things then if you just didn't say no i assumed it was. Yes oh my goodness. I wish i could think of an example now of something that you move forward with and i was like wait but we didn't agree and you said dogs. Yeah her dog. Oh my goodness that's that's a whole story. We did an exercise on communication at the very first marriage retreat. We did about speaker listener technique and we were talking mark. Wanted another bird dog. He wanted a puppy to come alongside the other one. He had so that there would always be one at the ready as the other one got older and the couples that attended that marriage. Retreat asked us months later. So so what did you decide. And my answer would be well. We didn't decide. And next thing i knew mark tells me. He's flying to montana to pick up a puppy like year. What at that point. I was just defeated. I was like i give up. I am out numbered. And that's the one that's been injured recently. And she's very sweet. And i love her to death but unpacking boxes the other day i came across all the cookbooks that she chewed through everything else that she chewed through was in the trash. But anyway we digress Something yes so you processed out loud. We had conversations about well. What can we afford to spend and timing was pretty critical because we were trying to get to closing on this house and that was a real challenge this time again. Thank you corona virus not ever. Yeah lenders were looking at at making loans ferry differently especially for self employed people and yeah and the so we did have a number of conversations which we didn't have the first time i started with all scare about. How are we going to do this financially. What this what's this going to look like and so we've we've learned a lot over time about hausa walk through those cons of decision making scenarios and then decide you know. Where's the money coming from. How are we going to do it. What's it going to be structured like and and the timing on. This was just really good. I mean when this one came up and we started looking. We had closed on our house here and we were able to just walk through. We were able to find a couple of independent but which we'll talk about probably next time but all the timing just kind of came together for.

"Sometimes, when we've been on those trips, we've even purchased a pie plate. Because I wanted to make me a cherry pie. Something to remember the pleasant. Trip through the countryside. But on every one of those drives, we finally came to a place on the journey where we said. Where are we? And always we either had to see a familiar landmark, or we had to pull the map out. And Begin to search to say, where is this taking us? It's getting dark and we need to go home. Well on the broad path, it's also necessary, and all of us have been on the broad path to finally stop and say my life is getting dark. The light is failing. Where am I? Often a husband will say that or a wife will say that, and the other spouse will say hey, come on honey. Let's ride a bit further. I'm having too good a time to stop. But even that other spouse will finally say. In our really WANNA go home. It's not pleasant. To sleep in the car. There is placed in our heart by the holy spirit a longing desire. To finally go home. And it causes us to stop and ask. Where are we? And where will this road that? We're taking? Cause us to end up. And we'll end up. On Ninety five where we can slip back up and get home. This narrow pass however. is not quickly or easily found. It's not readily accessible. And so there are many travelers on the Broadway that as it begins to grow dark. Are, not able to find the narrow path. They've gone too far down. And there is no point of return. And they drop over the edge into hell. Because, it's too late. This narrow path. However, Jesus is saying must be searched for. It must be looked for. Now have you ever? Gone searching. And you couldn't find the highway. And you stop and you ask directions and they laugh and they say Oh, this is not easy to find. have. You ever felt like that. I can't get there from here. There's no road that goes where I WANNA go. It's this hunger. This longing that begins to grow in my heart, that says I must find this narrow path, and when I finally find it. It's not a highway I to park my car. This is not a highway that I can pleasantly ride down and enjoy the entertainment. Again the question is where do I WANNA go. Not. How pleasant journey is to get there? You can't ride. On the narrow path. But on that highway, there is one consolation. You get to travel with a small company of people. You get to share your story. You get to have other brothers and sisters encourage you on the journey. To challenge you and to keep you on the path. But this neuropathy is hard to find. Only few are going to find this path. Because there are some major hindrances to finding the path. I want to identify the hindrances that Jesus gives us. The first hindrance to finding this narrow path is found in verse fifteen. Watch out. Were false prophets? The first hindrance to finding the narrow pass is everything we've been told. All of the expectations we come with. All the wonderful advertisements we've had. For the Christian life. All you need to do. Confess Jesus as your Lord and accept him. And you're saved your now on the narrow path. Liar Liar. Your pants are on fire..

"You can off ramp from the highway right now. You don't have to wait another moment. You can make the decision right now that you no longer want to be on a highway that leads to eternal destruction. You can make the decision right now that you want to offramp you want to pass through the narrow gate and you're ready to be on the path that leads to heaven you're ready to pursue the Kingdom of God and the way that you do that is simply right now right where you are you say in your own prayer your own conversation with God father. I realized that I have been on the path that leads to destruction. I've been on the highway to hell and tell your heavenly father that right now you desire to take the offramp desire to go through. The narrow gate received Jesus Christ as the narrow gate meaning that Jesus Christ is the path he is the way to receive forgiveness. And you receive the forgiveness that your heavenly father offers through. Jesus Christ you say thank you. Jesus for forgiving my sins. I receive you as my Lord and Savior and I'm ready to walk the path. Even though it may be difficult because I know that you Jesus will walk that path with me and no matter how difficult it is you say. Thank you to your heavenly father that that path eventually leads to an eternity in a place where there is no more tournament in a place that is full of peace in a place that is full of the presence of the Almighty God. Now that Jesus has laid out these two paths and everyone's on one path or the other one journey or another. Jesus draws attention to who we are on that path with and it's very important. We're all on a journey and who is on that journey with us. We allowed to be in that journey with us. It matters I fifteen. Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious. Wolves for Sixteen. You can identify them by their fruit and by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles once again incredibly imagery that Jesus lays out for us here? These are images that Jesus uses that we can call up that are used to illustrate these spiritual truths so i. The first example is sheep. A sheep has the appearance of innocence approachability peaceful good certainly the original audience of Jesus. When they heard sheep they would've thought useful. A sheep was useful for meat for milk for wo for hides for skins so Jesus says what appears innocent. What appears approachable. It appears peaceful. What appears good. What appears useful may actually be a wolf. The caution here is to be hyper aware of who you are allowing to influence you. People may say things that sound good. They may say things that are pleasing. Their words may even sound spiritual but if what they're saying does not align with Jesus says Jesus would call this person a wolf disguised as a sheep if they accept only part of what Jesus has to say but reject another piece like maybe they accept some of the sayings of Christ but they would reject what he has to say about the path to destruction of the highway to hell. If if a person accepts only portion of what Jesus speaks about and rejects other portions of what Jesus speaks about. Jesus would call that person a sheep the skies as a off. Jesus says you can tell by their fruit. Have you tasted spoiled fruit? Maybe a strawberry. It looks good but you you take a bite in at sour and it's Mushy or you've taken an apple on the outside. It looks appealing but on the other side of the skin of that apple. It's Brown and mushy and you regret ever taking a bite into that. We can tell other people stand based on the results of what happens in the lives of other people. They are influencing. We can tell were other people's stand based on the results of what happens is happening in the lives of others who they're influencing look at their other relationships are other people in their circle. Are they becoming more? Like Christ are people who are spiritually lost. Are they finding relationship with their heavenly father in Christ or are people who were in their circle? Are they falling? Deeper into the chains of addiction are people who are the influence of that person. You're thinking about are there. Relationships becoming more broken. Is there more severing? That's happened and let's turn this around and make this more personal. What is happening in the lives of people who are under your influence? What's happening in the lives of people who are under your influence? Are they becoming more like Christ if they come to you for advice are you pointing them? In the direction of their heavenly father are their hearts being shaped their minds being shaped to be more like Jesus because of what you're saying are people finding freedom from addiction. Is that restoration broken relationships. Are they turning from sin and becoming more like Christ then? Jesus draws this example once again. Can you pick grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles grapes and figs would have been very common for the original audience of Christ when he gave the sermon on the Mount. What do we know about grapes figs or any other fruit crop? How do they grow? They require attention. They require you to be involved. They require the farmer to be engaged. Usually fruit does not just pop up out of the ground on its own. Someone has to plant the seed and has to cultivated. Jesus draws a contrast and he says he he uses the example of Thorn Thorn Bushes or thistles how Thorn Bushes and thistles come to be. When you don't pay attention. These are weeds if you were to do nothing. You get thorn bushes in thistles so Jesus gives us this morning. This encouragement beyond guard. What you have halted in your relationship with Christ. If you're not careful it can be choked out by Thorn Bushes and by Fizzles by people who desire to pull you away. There are people who speak into your life that can choke out the life you have in Christ your relationship with Christ. It's worth protecting. You've made the decision to go through the narrow gate and the you're on it is valuable. It is worth guarding. It is absolutely worth being intentional about who you choose to allow to be on that journey with you. Jesus flushes this out. Further versus seventeen and eighteen. A good tree produces good fruit and a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit and the bad tree can't produce good fruit. The one who is out of relationship with Jesus Christ his likely not leading other people to Jesus Christ the one who rejected Christ think about this those who are in sin and are not in relationship with Christ those who are living out a life where they embrace some area of sin. One of their desires is to find other people who are ended that sin with them because there is a thought. Maybe it's not spoken out loud. But it's a thought that if I can get enough people to affirm this behavior than I will no longer feel guilty about it. Even if I maybe I can get the government to pass a law that would affirm this sin and if I can get the law on my side of other people to affirm my cinema can get enough of a crowd around this. Then I won't. I won't feel the guilt anymore. I it will no longer be a sin. But you know that's not how it works no matter if laws approve it no matter how many people surround and affirm the behavior if it is against. God You and I we know deep down inside of our heart that we are acting in rebellion to our heavenly father and is your loving heavenly father saying turn from that sin. Turn from that rebellion. Pull off the highway to destruction. Walk through the narrow gate and receive Jesus Christ as your savior and allow him to walk with. May feel like at times difficult path. But it's a path that will ultimately lead to eternal life in the presence of God versus nineteen and twenty so every tree that does not produce. Good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. Yes just as you can identify tree by its fruit. You can identify people by their actions every tree that does not produce good fruit as chop down and it is thrown into the fire so just as a tree that is producing bad fruit would be taken down and destroyed what. Jesus may be challenging. You do right now is to consider relationships that you have with people who you know are drawing you farther from. Christ you know that being in their presence listening to their advice is not shipping your heart and mind to be more like Jesus and the challenge. Maybe for a season maybe forever would be to sever that relationship. This could be someone that you a personal relationship with. Maybe at someone you need to stop reading their books watching their Youtube Channel listening to their music just as you can identify tree by its fruit so you can identify people by their actions. Each and every one of us were on a path. Run A path. We've either gone to the narrow gate and we're allowing. Jesus Christ walk the difficult road with us. Knowing that eternal life and happiness on the other end or on Broadway highway that leads to eternal destruction in this terrible place called Hell. Jesus desires for your life for my life is that we would stay on or get on the path that leads to eternal life and that you and I we would surround ourselves with people who are on that same journey now. Is Jesus saying that? We should have no relationships with people who are not Christians. Absolutely not in fact you. There are good relationships that we can have with people who are still in the process of discovering. Jesus Christ the question is are those people influencing you or are you influencing them as a pastor. I can tell you. One of the most heartbreaking things we've seen in the life of many is they come in spiritually lost. They come in broken. Maybe there's an addiction and they find hope in Christ and over the course of weeks months even years their life is redirected. They make the decision to get off the highway and they get on the road. They go through the narrow gate and we see the fruit in their life. We see the joy in their life and then the heartbreaking part comes in when those friends allow other friends to speak into their life to influence their life like thorns in thistles and they crowd out all the good fruit and they fade away from their relationship with other believers and they fade away in their relationship with Christ something that we do not want to see happen. Here's the story that we like to tell the story that we like to tell that someone like you receives new life and Jesus Christ you make the decision to walk through that narrow gate and then as a result of your testimony as a result of the new life that you have in Christ others who are around you who are not in relationship with Jesus. See the amazing transformation. That's happening you and it's so good that it's contagious. That they want what you have and they say what happened in your life and you can tell them I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and as my savior and you can do that too. There is power in your testimony. One more thing before we close in prayer tonight some of you may be thinking I've been there. I done that a long time ago. Whatever a long time ago means for you. I made the decision to walk through the narrow gate and I've been on the path and you might say nothing can take me off. Well of course you know. Continue to be on guard. But also this if you've been walking this journey with other people if you've made that intentional decision to surround yourself with other people who are on that journey with you. Why don't you reach out by taxed or by phone even as we're finishing tonight.

"Welcome welcome back. Welcome home this DNA and we wanNA thank you for being a part of the life together. Podcast before we get into this week's teaching with pastor. Tom We want you to know that you matter to God and you matter to us live. Together is a Wednesday evening gathering for Worship Bible Study and Community Ali Assembly of God here in Oak Creek. Wisconsin we pray that this week's message is life giving encouraging challenging and possibly even life changing. Let me ask you to think about two types of people who you have in your life. I have in my life two types of people that we all have in our life the first group of people people who you influence and the second group of people people who influence you so. Let's think first about the people who you influence. These are people who look to you as an example. They're taking cues from you. Maybe they're even imitating the way that you are doing things so our children's certainly would be in this category or if you have them grandchildren. They're watching you. You have influence over them. You are leading them. It may be in a friend group. That friends look to you as one who often has the right answer or has good advice. This could be influenced you have as a result of a job title. You're a teacher. You have influence over the students who are in your class. You perhaps carry the title of Manager. Supervisor owner chief executive officer in any of those categories because of the title that you have because of your assigned position people look to you as a person of influence. Now let me ask you think about people who have influence over you. Who are people you look to people who you would seek them out for advice people who are perhaps over you in your organization. Maybe you are a student right now so this would be someone who is a teacher. You're in their classroom and probably in this season. You're in a virtual classroom. So we all have these people in our lives people who we have influence over and also people who influence us and when we think people who have influenced over us. Who is someone that you would go to? If you were in a difficult situation you would think they have the answer or at least they have good advice to help me. Discern the best path forward so we are all on a life journey and others are on this life journey with us. And what? We're going to talk about tonight is you and I. We are on a life journey and who we choose to be on this journey with it matters. You are on a life journey and who you are on this journey with matters. That's what Jesus addresses as we once again. Open up the sermon on them out our Wednesday evening teaching series the sermon on the Mount. It spans three chapters in the book of Matthew The Gospel According to Matthew Chapters. Five six and seven. And what's so incredibly valuable when it comes to the sermon the mount is that Jesus. He teaches us. He shows us how to experience deeper relationships with our heavenly father and with other people Jesus tells us what to increase in our life and what to reduce or even eliminate to get the most out of the limited time that we have on this planet. And when you and I when we live out with. Jesus teaches in the sermon on the Mount Earth. Looks more like heaven. So what we're going to see tonight as a Jesus is going to show us or he's going to tell us that each of us. We are on a journey. We are all on insurance. No one is exempt and Jesus wants to know we're our personal journey is leading and he possibly is challenging. Us tonight to consider the path that we're on right now and to consider changing course so let's approach the text. Let's approach God's word with an open mind with an open heart believing that God's word that the words of Jesus have something to say to each and every one of us so once again we're going to be in Matthew Chapter Seven tonight and if you're if you've been with us throughout this sermon on the Mount Series you know that we are approaching the finish line next week will probably be the last of our sermon on the Mount Series. So then we're Matthew Chapter Seven and we're going to begin tonight in verse. Thirteen Matthew Chapter Seven verse thirteen here. We go Jesus says this. You can enter God's kingdom only through the narrow gate the highway to hell is broad in its gate is wide for the many who choose that way continuing in verse fourteen but the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult and only a few ever find it so we opened the discussion tonight. Jesus opens this portion of the sermon on the Mount. Talking about a gate. You can enter God's kingdom only through the narrow gate once again. Jesus uses imagery that we all can immediately connect with. We all understand the concept of a gate and as we're going to see tonight once again. Jesus uses picture examples to help illustrate his point. And what's so amazing? Jesus draws on examples that made sense to his audience then in here two thousand years later. The pictures are just as vivid and just as effective in helping us to understand what? Jesus is desiring to communicate. So he says you can enter God's kingdom only through the narrow gape and you and I we understand the concept of a gate. Why do you have a gate? Why would you install a gate or gates serve two purposes one? A gate would be to protect what is valuable inside and a gate would limit access to what is valuable on the other side of that gate. It's a controlled entry point. The other function of a gate could be is often to keep what is dangerous on the outside from coming in. It's to protect what's inside from dangers. That are outside the gate and once again. The Gate is there to limit access. So it is. God's desire to keep the sin that has corrupted this world from entering heaven it is God's desire to keep the Senate has corrupted this world from entering heaven. God desires to protect what is valuable. You're on a journey and you're headed on one of two directions. I want you to pay attention to the directions. Jesus lays out here and the order in which he lays them out. Okay so catch this. You can enter God's kingdom only through the narrow gate here's the first path. The highway to hell is broad and it's gate is wide for the many who choose that way. I'm reading from the NFL. T the new living translation and the new living translation is more blunt than other translations other translations may say something like the road to destruction or the path to destruction and I'll says the highway to hell it is broad and it's gate is wide for the many who choose that way. The many who choose that way. The picture that comes to my mind is one of a busy interstate a busy interstate and Jesus gives us to us in this order a highway. That eventually goes through a wide gate in on the other side of that gate is terrible. Awful place called Hell because we live in a world that has rejected. God we are by default on this highway. If you do not make an intentional choice. You are on this highway. Because all have sin and fall short of the glory of God. This conversation may make you uncomfortable. In fact maybe your tenth even to just keep swiping. Let me just challenge you at this before you stop watching keeping in mind that it's not my words. It's the words of Jesus that are challenging here and there confrontational. Jesus speaks about a highway to hell and you may be thinking it would just be easier. It would be more convenient of Jesus. Just didn't talk about Hell. You'd rather not contemplate that if there is a hell wouldn't you want Jesus to tell you about it if there is an eternal safe separation in a place of torment? Jesus uses the analogy gnashing teeth if there is such a terrible place. Wouldn't you desire that Jesus would tell you about it? And that's exactly what he does here. The highway to hell is broad and its gate is wide for the menu. Choose that way so as you see here. The Jesus he places highway in front of gate. You're on the highway now and at some point when life ends this side of eternity. If you're on that highway you will pass through a broad gate which leads to this awful place called Hell. The highway may feel easy. It may feel easy in the moment and there may be comfort because other people are on that highway. Oh everyone else's here. This can't be so bad if everyone else here. How bad can it be? Let me just tell this to share this with you and you already know this from other areas of life just because everyone else is. There doesn't mean it's a good place. Jesus describes hell as a place where there is the presence of demons where there is none of the goodness of God. There is weeping as we said GNASHING of teeth. It is a horrible place of torment. Option that all people are on by default that they make no decision is to be on the highway to hell that leads through the broad gate. Now Jesus gives us the second example verse fourteen the Gateway to life the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult and only a few ever find it soothing to catch this where Jesus previously said. There's a highway that eventually leads through a broad gate. He gives the highway. I and the gate later now in the second option he says I the gate. The Gateway is narrow and the road is difficult. The road the difficult road follows the narrow gate. This is a gate that we can choose to walk through at any moment. Jesus says this is a gate that you will pass through that leads to a difficult road. He does not say come through the narrow gate and expect easy street. He says there is a difficult road on the other end. Being a follower of Jesus Christ is not always easy in many of you. Many of us have lived this in some way. We have found that being a disciple of Christ is not easy lost in following world. Jesus sets US up for that. He says you can expect once you pass through the narrow gate by the way. Jesus is the narrow gate once you pass through the narrow gate there are GonNa be difficulties ahead this attorney long.

"Narrow modulation is a common mentality is that to treat many different conditions I doubt that the design of the marine so that is that that's not a joke that's a news feature yeah that's about all the snow yesterday okay that's the thing that is something in the computer electronic show to took to fix premature **** and we're making the point last hour that it would seem that the consumer electronic show is kind of hit a wall on what they can bring us with cool new gadgets TV's can only get so big and you want them I mean I realize I could make a bigger but it would seem that may be seventy years she is as large as anybody wants in their own skin somewhere along the screen you can roll up and stick in your pocket I mean Sir sirs a bunch of weird crap out there right robots that bring a toilet paper yeah and I started talking about varies articles and books I read a Blau on a combination of isolation and pleasure that is it seems to be making people mostly unhappy but that's the direction we're going and I read a book called the machine stops it was written in the early nineteen hundreds that talked about that made it look miserable but that's what we're screaming toward we got this text Isaac Asimov wrote a book that mostly took place in the plane Aurora people lived alone in houses on large multi thousand acre state that robots take care of them very rarely left their state and avoid all in person contact with other people one of the few exceptions was to reproduce but they found that act highly repulsive we only did keep the species alive there's another of I predict if I would I like it so well I gotta give me one of those bandaids the idea that people would voluntarily stop reproducing was seemed crazy to me but it's clearly happening right we also got this text Jack your comments last five minutes but the most important that I've heard on your show in the twenty years I've been listening it seems a little hyperbolic when would know what's well done Sir technology has stolen child rearing from an entire generation of parents the struggle is constant the default is always immersion in technology I'm a teacher in the anxiety levels of children have never been this high the only children riding bikes in my neighborhood are are thirty year old homes wow that is what I mostly seen on bikes thirty year old bums who lost their driver's license yeah the counter argument I here though is there isn't one there is nobody making the counter argument that are devices are making us knots and and unplugging us from the real human contact that nourishes the soul the fake sort of kind of online on phone contact does not nourish the soul nearly enough was again the reasons that are deep in our anatomy I I think yeah what our psychology in our neurological you know be able I think part of it might be recognize what you gonna do about it it's just it's easy you're going to have to write what you gonna have to realize it's a terrible habit yeah I just got a person by person basis I am not interested in save well I am interested in saving humanity but I'm not a megalomaniac so I know I can't I'm saying what I'm saying to save my kids and my friends and help them understand what's killing them I don't know what are you gonna do about it societally I don't know I'm just one do but I am going to deliver that message to the people I care about so I was gonna talk about video games I'm not gonna do that here because that's a longer separate conversation but just in terms of like immersing yourself in screen time not talking to human being or being outside when we got a video game system my kids started playing video games and I I realized for the first time with a two way street is on not just the kids are for the parents we hadn't had video games and for the first time ever has a parent in my household because I got one kid that's corky and got all these versions was the first time ever as a parent there was something I could have my could do and I could do is much longer is I want to take a nap I can watch the news I kind of watch the football game I can and on all kinds of things that I haven't done in ten years because I knew exactly where he was gone where he wasn't he wasn't leaving that spot as long as I let him do it so there's that there's that that's how it happens I had never been in the I know bloody appearances saying bill I suppose but to me the other side of it this is so handy as a parent yeah I wanna make dinner don't put your video games I'm completely free of responsibility and I can do this on a now you re signed television yeah well in TV doesn't work that way not to that extent not to that extent of Amer Asian see my kids watch TV whether that wide eyed up just so when do you can't you can't even get their attention Hey Hey what do you Hey hello hello I'm never not never with the TV show you literally have kids let it go in their pants because they just will not stop plan and I thought if you don't care about this sort of thing I can see how you think this is the greatest thing that ever happened now I I I'm a plane like it down from that now I can be on the phone with my friends or the scrolling through the you know with that shopping on Amazon or do whatever I want stuff that I never can do well you could put on one of those helpful bandaids from the C. S. and he heard the wife sneak off if you wanted to was so well there you go it's a two way temptation I didn't realize it but is a clever guy Jack Satan's vine video game probably little strong but the sentence about over there well we get another strong.
