"Yeah yeah yeah those big octopus wheels yeah here's ten on the Ted stage I want to explain to the non procrastinator is of the world what goes on in the heads a procrastinator to why we are the way we are not a hypothesis that the the brains procrastinator for actually different than the brains of other people both brains have a rational decision maker in them but the procrastinate his brain also has an instant gratification monkey not what does this mean for the procrastinator well he is the gratification monkey does not seem like a guy you want behind the wheel he lives entirely in the present moment he has no memory of the past no knowledge of the future he only cares about two things easy and fun now we have another guy in our brain the rational decision maker who gives us the ability to do things no other animal can do we can visualize the future we can see the big picture we can make long term plans if you want to take all of that into account and he wants to just have us do whatever makes sense to be doing right now now sometimes it makes sense to be doing things that are easy and fun like when you're having dinner we're going to better and doing well or leisure time sometimes they agree but other times it makes much more sense to be doing things that are harder and less pleasant for the sake of the big picture and that's when we have a conflict so the Russian decision maker will make the rational decision to go do something productive with much doesn't like that plan we have to take the wheel and he says actually let's read the entire wikipedia page the Nancy Kerrigan Tonya Harding scandals like just remember that that happened then they were going to go over to the fridge receives anything new in there since ten minutes ago that's it I think that's an interesting wikipedia page about Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan all my god it's so amazing.

"At first Jeff and Tanya denied denied any and all involvement but unknown to them Eckhart had recorded one of his meetings with Jeff discussing the details of the attack back. There was no denying that Jeff Guli was involved. The only question that remains then was whether or not Tanya was involved volved. She claimed she knew nothing about the attack before it happened and quickly distanced herself from Jeff announcing their separation but the suspicion suspicion raged on fueled by daily headlines about Tanya's alleged involvement as the FBI worked to determine termine the truth the Lillehammer Olympics were fast approaching. The question on. Everyone's mind was whether or not Tanya would still be allowed to compete. Beat if she plotted to attack one of her teammates could she really skate alongside her but Tanya didn't care she had broken doc in any laws and hadn't been convicted of any crime yet which meant that. She had every right to skate. In the Olympics. She gave a press conference on January Twenty Seventh Nineteen Ninety four stating despite my mistakes and my rough edges. I have done nothing thing to violate the standards of excellence and sportsmanship that are expected in an Olympic athlete. I have devoted my entire life to one objective. I've winning an Olympic gold medal from my country. This is my last chance I asked only for your understanding and the opportunity ready to represent my country with the best figure skating performance of my life but it was a wish that wasn't and to be with the constant swarm of press and attention. Tanya spent the month leading up to the Lillehammer Games in a fog of stress and on suspicion journalists called her house and knock on her door at all hours of the day she was barely able to sleep let alone get her head in the game name. Her home rink was in public mall. Every jump of every practice was accentuated with dozens of camera shutters and flashes and as soon as she stepped off the plane in Lillehammer the attention grew tenfold. The world was laser focused on on the ladies figure skating competition waiting to see what these two rivals would do on the ice or perhaps to each other figure skater Erin commentator. Brian Boitano said let's face it. People will watch Tonya and Nancy to see if they get in a fistfight. It's terrible in the end. It was anti-climactic Tanya gave one of the worst performances of her career. She finished in eighth place. Ace Nancy Kerrigan who managed to rehab her leg in time to compete skated a perfect short program and nearly flawless free re-skate. Everyone watching expected her Herculean recovery to be rewarded with a gold medal but sixteen year. Old Ukrainian Indian Skater. Oxana by. You'll manage to slip ahead. In the final moments of her free skate. Oksana added three extra jumps giving her the boost. She needed to edge out Nancy. She went home with the Gold Nancy with the Silver Tanya with nothing after the Olympics. Tonya harding pleaded guilty to conspiring to hinder the prosecution. She admitted she knew as early as January tenth. That Jeff Gillooly was involved in the attack on Nancy and had failed to report at the information to the police. A Class C felony. She was sentenced to three years probation. Five hundred hours of community service and find one hundred sixty thousand dollars the US figure skating association stripped her of the Nineteen Ninety four National National Championship win and revoked her membership in the association she was barred from skating in any USFSA sponsored event for life as Tanya put it her life was over she said truthfully. I don't remember much about anything. After the Olympics picks because I lost everything that was pretty much the worst thing that could ever happen to me. Ironically the scandal between Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya harding renewed interest in the sport of figure skating. The nineteen ninety four four Lilla Hammer Olympics were one of the highest viewed games in history and forty eight point. Five million viewers tuned in to watch the women's ends competition a number comparable to super bowl ratings ticket. Sales at ICECAPADES and skating competitions shot up endorsement deals for figure skaters increased tenfold. It was a massive boon to the sport and Tanya was on the outside looking in barred from from participating in any of it to this day Tanya denies any involvement in the attack on Nancy Kerrigan and she says she knew only after the fact yet they're still pervasive public opinion that she was directly involved. Some people bull even believe that she was the one to commit the knee bashing journalist. Sarah Marshall addressed this in her article on the attack and aftermath titled Remote Viewing she wrote as for Tanya's claims about her own innocence in the plot itself any attempt to dismiss her version out out of hand somewhat falls apart once one realizes that the dominant version of the story. The story the press picked up and popularized and the story that endured largely for that reason was Jeff's Tania's version of events is implausible only because it contradicts the story. "But now here we have the US figure skater accused of deliberately slashing a rival at the world championships. So here we go again, right? It's taken a few years what to take it over twenty years, but we're back at it. So it American figure skaters been accused of colliding into a sixteen year old Korean rival in the final warm-up session ahead of the opening world figure skating championships in Japan. And that was Nancy Kerrigan after she got jacked in the ne- new figure skating can be so ruthless. Well, you know, think about it. Right. There's a lot. There's a lot on the line. These are all fierce competitors. They probably played hockey at some point. Right. And they work in their whole lives for this. So this is Lim Hyun Soo sustained a gash to or calf as she prepared to compete in the ladies short program at the championships. Her agency her agency, she has an agency. Okay. This is why skating figure skating's at a whole different level. My agency. By agency accused Mariah bell of intentionally injuring me. So again, this echoes the infamous incident involving Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. Now. Now, it not only is her agent, but representatives they have agents and representatives in the world figure skating representatives acclaimed there sufficient ground now to believe that the act was premeditated. Whoa, man. So here's the way, they're reporting it they were in the official rehearsal period. And. Think about this. What kind of a sport is this? They don't have warm ups ever hersal. You've got agents representatives and rehearsals. So is this really a sport come on, folks? I'll bet they're able to nickname themselves to. Allowed in the real world. But in the real world of sports somebody else nicknames, you you don't have agencies and representatives and rehearsals. Maybe your agency gives you your nickname. Okay. So anyway, here's what they say. Limb was slowly skating on the edge of the rink after completing her turn Mariah bell who was scheduled to hers after Lim suddenly kicked and stabbed Kim's calf. Our limbs calf with their skate, blades kicked and stabbed. Well, those those figure skates do have those little like t- things on the very front. That could hurt. That's right. Now. Mariah bell didn't apologize to limb. After the incident. At instead, continued to rehearse her routine. Ooh. Bad no soul. Kick causes a cut. Well, they're calling it a gash in a slash band aid over it. It wasn't that big. And. I'm looking at that. And didn't apologize. Okay. You think an apology would? Guys, you say excuse me, at least sure if it's accidental accidental. So they believe this is not a minor situation. Gosh, she was treated for injury. She was able later to compete. You're right. It's a band aid. Folks. This is not a slashing gash. Now. She got poked. So she's been accused of bully. Oh, she's been well what they're saying is bell has been bullying her for several months and even launched into a verbal attack

"For thirty documentary called the price of gold which was directed by netbursting came out through espn a couple of years ago and what i like so much about that film is that the purpose of that film is to reexamine the story of both tonya harding and nancy kerrigan to look at bis this scandal this incident as it were and really to make the point that the entire skating system is so flawed because it was awful for both of them it's essentially it's terrible if you become the person that they don't favor but it's also terrible if you become the person who's treated as sort of princess e and you know favored in a way like nancy kerrigan was because if you remember what happened after those olympics was that nancy kerrigan was immediately ripped to shreds for being ungrateful and ratty for saying what i consider to be normal human you know you get caught in a disney parade saying it's corny to be in a disney parade on course it's corning we'd be in a disney parade and it's the kind of thing that nobody cares about when other athletes do it so i've elite the bursting documentary which and stephen and i were talking about this earlier is pretty clearly one of the inspirational pieces for this film and i think the director of the people behind this film have acknowledged it i thought that was a really interesting film because its purpose was not to make you sympathetic to tonya harding its purpose was to say she had a terrible life nancy kerrigan had a difficult life in other ways because she was not a wealthy shoe set up grossman like she was a rash girl and up and a prep or whatever or presi and nancy kerrigan was from a blue collar no family also so i'm more interested in examinations of that system and its inequities then i am.
