"There is life outside the world of covid nineteen vaccine so why not do a lightning round so first california attorney general. Xavier becerra is going through the confirmation process to become the next secretary of health and human services. Now because democrats have functional control of the senate. And because sarah doesn't seem to have a history of mean tweets. His confirmation is probably a foregone conclusion. But i wanted to zoom in on something that are calling. Fashion pointed out this week In that confirmation process which is republican senators opposing era said. He's not fit for the job in part because he has never worked for a drug company and basically isn't sympathetic enough to the pharmaceutical industry. Which i thought was interesting one because his predecessor alexy's are was the first. Hhs secretary to ever worked a drug company. So it's not like there's that's a standard that we hold this position to but maybe more notably. I wonder if this might mark attorney in pharma's relationship with the republican party in a post trump world. I think we all remember. President trump facto leader of the gop. Maybe still leader of the gop and a lot of people's minds was pretty hostile to the drug industry. So i wonder if these senators kind of using this tack which granted politics in terms of opposing. The other party's nominee. I wonder if that might tell us something about how you know. There might be a return to tranquility between the republican party and the drug industry. Yeah i mean. I was gonna i was gonna say damian that it seems like that's almost like a return to normalcy. I think it's hilarious for multiple reasons. i do think it perhaps shows his shift That was brought into play by the trump administration's sort of demonstrated pattern of installing people In posts essentially from the industry's they're supposed to be regulating as part of the government But it's also funny because alexy's are perhaps the fact that he came from pharma did actually end up leading to a more favorable environment for the pharmaceutical industry and one could argue through operation warp speed knowing how drug companies work that might have just created a better environment for them to operate at least on kobe. Vaccines but alex was the first person to claim that because he worked in a big drug company he knows all the dirty tricks they played he was going to use them against them so It's a funny argument and yes it's politics. I also wonder if there's some element of the pandemic just changing attitudes toward the pharmaceutical industry. And showing that. It's you know it is really important and you do want to sort of foster it along Even though there are a lot of things said you know arguably do aid to be regulated more or or change in the way things work in terms of drugs in this country all right so next. Up open by ohm. A pioneering nonprofit in the field of fecal transplant said this week that it's winding down its program of collecting analyzing and shipping out stool samples to treat disease meg thoughts on this. Have so many thoughts on this. This was the first topic of our first ever signal. Podcast episode. my my long ago podcast Timmerman for stat. And i'm just i've been fascinated by the idea of fecal transplants. And just the idea that this science could be used as a way to address c. Difficile this horrible condition that can arise after. Lots of antibiotic use and Opened by essentially was formed to Provide a safe and monitored way of getting stool from donors To people who could benefit from it and The whole thing we focused on in that first episode of signal was that there were biotech companies coming to capitalize on this new science of the microbiome and develop drugs that specifically targeted the things that might be working And the argument of is a drug better or is the whole stool sample better And an element of this that Our colleague cared and wrote about in in the story about open by shutting down is that the companies are succeeding. And that might be open by on Isn't needed in the same way. But it sounds like there's going to be a gap between those two things happening and in some patients might be kinda worried about that next topic late last week. The fda officially acknowledged something that has frustrated academics and physicians for decades pulse. Oximeters are the devices used to measure. Oxygen levels are often considerably less reliable for black patients. Compared to white patients the agency issued a public warning about the devices noting that the color of a patient's skin can affect their accuracy. Yes so this is obviously you know. Good news in the eyes of the people. Who've advocated for attention to this very real and medically clinically demonstrable issue But you know it's again sort of an after the fact thing. And i i think a lot of people in that field. What they'd really like to see the fda be proactive about this to to ask for data like this when considering these devices for clear such that this would be on the label. Next tells acts the chief. Medical officer of madonna will leave the company in september ending a six year tenure in which he presided over the development of the company's covid nineteen vaccine. We only promised you a brief respite from talking about covid vaccines so guys what we make. The legacy tells ax leaves. I just wonder if he bought a small island somewhere to to retire on well right so as pointed out in announcing that he'll he'll leave the company later this year he joined when they were still preclinical and when the conversation about them was focused on whether they'd ever live up to this valuation that they had as a private company whether they're technology whatever pan out and sitting here in two thousand twenty one with a scene. That members of my family have received Clearly tha- panned out pretty well but at the numeral referring to his as as we and others reported zacks seller of madonna stock in twenty twenty. I think he'd netted out seventy two million dollars in profits from selling his shares of the company every single week by exercising options and holding zero shares and we wrote a story in which a lot of corporate governance watchdog types. They weren't fans of that. They look at that as something that that should cause shareholders alarm. But it's kind of interesting looking. Et tells tenure moderna as a whole. He was hired to you chief. Medical officer is their products their projects. And here they are unequivocally successful in that. He made a lot of money in the process. Yelich there's no evidence that you know. He's leaving for any other reason than just that he's been there for a really long time. The company is now on much firmer more successful footing and it's time for him to maybe retire or do something else. I'm sure that tells acts is going to be a very highly recruited healthcare executive Any company would probably would love to have a guy like that you know within their ranks on the other side. I mean you have say it is. Maybe a little bit strange into the timing of his departure The company's just launching this This vaccine it has a lot of other stuff in the pipeline that it needs to needs to move forward and you know he's leaving so it you know i think people will have different perspectives on that and right now. We really don't know what's going on and finally one last thing on cove nineteen vaccines this week. We got a first look at detailed data on johnson. And johnson's one dose vaccine. Which on friday will be the subject of a day-long meeting of expert advisors to the fda if those advisers vote in favor of its benefits. Which quite likely will the fda will quite likely grant the vaccine an emergency use authorization and it will begin rolling out across the country in the presumably days to come. So what did we learn about james vaccine that we didn't already know this week. One thing i was really looking forward to seeing was the breakdown of the variants included in the us part of the trial. So jay ran this study across multiple continents And we knew that. The efficacy varied from the us to south africa to brazil. It was seventy two percent in the us. And i wondered if there there could have been variant circulating. During the time there were running the trial that could have affected that Efficacy and turned out to reveal. Was that ninety. Six percent of the samples were that d six fourteen g original sort of wuhan strain or slightly mutated strain but but the og variant basically And so it really wasn't affected by that. So one shot issue. Seventy two percent efficacy against cases of covid nineteen that is lower than for the amarnath vaccines at ninety four ninety five percent. So you are hearing people talk about these vaccines like the mardi. Vaccines are the cadillacs and The the other vaccines are like compact cars. I think that the government is dr fauci and You heard from jeff science on the covid task force yesterday or the response team..

"Efforts had left novak struggling to survive its employees walking out the door but when the pandemic hit novak decided to make an all or nothing bet on developing a covid nineteen vaccine. That risky decision paid off big time today. Recently announced clinical data showing novak's to have one of the most effective vaccines against covid nineteen an authorization from regulatory agencies as possible in the next two months it stock prices soared and supply contracts worth. Billions of dollars have been signed earlier this week. The wall street journal published a profile of novak's its top executives and researchers. It's a fascinating story of science perseverance. And a little bit of luck. That story was written by wall street journal. Reporters greg sacrament and peter. Loftus and greg joins us now to discuss gregg. Welcome three dial out. Great to be here. So greg i love the lead of your story which describes novak employees gathering last january at a bar to discuss how they might salvage their careers. Explain the company's bumpy history. Up to that point yeah. It's kind of unlikely story. They as recently as sixteen years ago. Their lead product was cream for menopausal women dealing with hot flashes The cream didn't work. They proceeded to focus on vaccines they made vaccines for hiv. Sars swine flu bala. You name it. And they've made a vaccine for it and each time it failed either. The epidemic died out or didn't meet their endpoints. So yeah we going into two thousand twenty They really had only a few months left of cash. The stock was under four dollars a share. These employees were meeting at the bar to figure out their futures It was a difficult situation for them. Maybe it's were zooming out on some of the science involved. How does novak's go about creating its vaccines and how does that. Technology differ from the amarna. Approach were familiar with thanks to modern adviser. Sure so yeah. We are familiar with the amarna approach whereby we send instructions into the body in the body creates the spike protein and immune system reacts what novak does is a little more of a traditional one could argue approach it's a protein sub-unit method call it which is used for things like shingles and had b basically. They create that spike protein in the lab. They do it through backer of ours which is an insect virus. They use insect cells and they create in the lab and they put it in the vaccine and injected in the arm before covid. Though of course novak's wasn't having much success with vaccines. How bad did it get at the company. I mean there was a period where gregory glenn The senior executives at the company broke down crying in his car. He told us he was driving home and he was losing employees. People Needed to pay bill and the company couldn't really give them raises and such and really there were periods when they were kind of unclear what their future was going to be. If they had a future he did a reverse stock split in two thousand nineteen because the stock was under a dollar share and it proceeded to go down twenty percent more after that To one split so in the office party at the end of two thousand and nineteen was a couple bottles of coke and some slices of pizza. So this is really an unlikely success story. Not the kind of company would have expected to help get us out potentially from this pandemic. So greg as you reporting your story you know. When the pandemic hit novak shifted to work on a vaccine for covid nineteen to fund the clinical trials. The company had to go to the white house in and practically begged to be included in operation warp speed and then in january just last month novak's released interim results from a face re clinical trial that was conducted in the uk. And what did those data show. Year was pretty impressive. Data i mean was but eighty nine percent efficacy but that remember was including of the time you had that variant the uk variant on an apples to apples basis. One can argued there are their vaccine is comparable to both measure and i and pfizer and it doesn't have to be kept at the same low temperatures as those vaccines. There may be better durability. Listen i'm skeptical. Maybe even cynical journalist. I keep waiting for the the the shoe drop their on november. The date of has been really impressive. One thing that stood out to me reading your story and you're having kind of watched novak's from a distance and that sort of sputtering that you mentioned over years and years and years. I'd forgotten that they'd gotten down to being a penny stock and now have you know their stock prices orders of magnitude beyond that and they have a vaccine seems to work. It's like as if game stop went onto become like amazon in terms of both the change in valuation but also like the functionally doing thing that i think a lot of people in biotech counted them out on every succeeding it. Yeah so i'm a business writer who writes a lot about healthcare. But i'm not a science writer and from the outside. I was kind of skeptical. Here's a stock that was so low and never produced anything. And there's a lesson here at least for me. There was a lesson that sometimes is really good science being done at some of these dinky little companies and they don't catch a break sometimes or they're just not quite there and scientists about incremental improvements. And that sort of lesson i i. I took from the store that they believe it or not. We're making these improvements along the way and some of us on the outside just weren't aware of them weren't giving them enough credit but internally the science scientists were actually getting more excited which is why they turned and focused on a covid vaccine early. Two thousand and twenty so in the course of your reporting what surprised you the most about novak's and its covid nineteen vaccine effort while i was impressed by the science and the scientists there are a group of really dedicated impressive scientists within the company. That have been there for years. I kind of asked them well. Why why did you stick around. I mean you could have gone elsewhere. They just like their work. They liked having some authority and autonomy guidance gayle smith is the one who is credited with coming up with these insect viruses that are used in various medicines and treatments and therapeutics and he dislikes staying there and like the fact that the ceo gave him some autonomy so at these little companies are often is really good science being done and i took that as a lesson anyway. So what is next. For novak's you know there's a group of companies including vacs and you can argue biontech and madonna that have really interesting futures. it's not clear whether they can pull these things off but i know novak's wants to do it all in one a flu and covid vaccine that you know if we are you and i believe it's the case that we're gonna have to deal with this thing for the long term that we may need in all in one so a listen. We'll see if they can pull it off but the reason the stock price is over two hundred dollars. A share up from under four just over a year ago is investors. Think they may be part of this future. Wave of pharmaceutical kind of giants speaking of the investor base You're all of us. Who have presences on twitter. Get a lot of interaction from novak's believers and you know some of it is not very nice They could be very enthusiastic. I guess is one way of putting it but at the same time i guess you can also look at this like a lot of these folks have really been believers in novak's for a long time since way before kovac's they've been in this doc. I know people who have been and these are folks who are enrolling in the clinical trials who declare that they will not get another vaccine. Unless it's novak's i. I just wonder you know in in the course of your reporting. How much did you sort of encounter that culture. What your takeaways on it yet. There's a whole subculture of investor out there that are believers and they believe these little dinky biotech stocks. With let very little track record are going to solve incur- everything and i as a journalist. Maybe guys as well. I've come to the point where. I am usually very cynical about those people and nine times out of ten. They get it wrong and they make a bet on some horse that falls far short of the finish line. But there is a lesson here that once in a while these investors the small investors. They're talking about and they believe for good reason. Now is serendipity involved where some good luck for sure. They got billions of dollars from the government and from government organizations from the gates foundation without that kind of help in two thousand twenty. There's no way they could have developed these vaccines but to their credit. They pulled it off and they to me. It's a story of resilience persistence and a lesson here to have more respect for the science that some of these smaller unheralded biotechs greg. Thanks so much for joining us. Sure great be here guys. Finally.

"About this for several years with the fda the fda has been terrific and in fact Leadership position in the cans in the oncology center of excellence and they published two guidances where they said you know what. Let's not have a as the knee jerk minimum age of eligibility for clinical trials. Let's let's put down to the age that makes sense for every drug and it could be all the way down to five years old or maybe even six months old i realized we're in a crisis with covid. And maybe it's just tough to do everything at the same time. But i wish we would go back to those guidances at the fda do they apply to cove it as well and co vid therapy trials and co vaccination trials. Here's like the really uncomfortable thing that we're not talking about the us. So five hundred thousand people have died which is terrible but the fact is about four hundred thousand of these people are over the age of sixty five you know and we are shutting down our economy. We're asking our kids not to go to school to have mental health issues to not see their friends and be socially delayed to potentially have a life with a lower income and fewer professional opportunities. Because right now a lot of seniors are dying and suffering. Of course there. There's still one hundred thousand people under sixty five but you know i mean. I love my parents. I'm closer to sixty five than eighteen. But i don't you know we're asking kids take a huge hit for seniors like that's the uncomfortable. Let's see uncomfortable truth. We're not talking about so if we're gonna ask kids to take this huge hit. We just need to open schools and take care of kids as soon as we can and and look if vaccine experts. Come back and say okay nancy. Well there really are toxicities. Were worried about in an early pediatric study. And it's really the case that these studies we're doing of kids from age. Twelve seventeen would give us additional information. That would be very important in designing a younger pediatric trial. You know then. I would understand the delay but they really haven't explained the delay. Nancy thanks so much for joining us. Thank you very much damian. I i really had.

"Goodman is a force. I once heard. Nih director francis collins speak about her with awe. she's championed legislation called the creating hope act to incentivize drug companies to work on pediatric rare diseases. That law led to the creation of priority review vouchers. Worth more than a billion dollars. She did all of this after losing her ten-year-old son jacob in two thousand nine to a rare form of brain cancer the next day she opened up her laptop and founded kids versus cancer. A group that pushes for medicines to be developed faster for children and she's wondering amid the fastest vaccine development program in history. Why kids are still months away from getting access to covid nineteen vaccines. Nancy goodman joins us now nancy. Welcome to the podcast. Thank you so much atom. I'm thrilled to be here so in discussing vaccines for kids. The argument always comes up that the disease doesn't strike them as hard or as much as it does adults so our co vaccines necessary for kids. Well that's a great question. Meg and i think that we need to talk about that much more carefully and make them more careful decision about when we're going to give kids vaccines. I think we all agree that we're eventually going to give kids vaccines and so the question is is it better to do now or as a delay really important i think it may very well be better to do right now so we heard just this week from dinner that they've fully enrolled their vaccine trial in kids age twelve to seventeen and that they plan to start another trial. Starting at the age of six months in the near term and pfizer would also has an authorized is at a similar pace in terms of pediatrics studies. So drug companies say they. I proved vaccines work in older age groups to get data on safety and then progressively move younger. What do you think of that system of testing vaccines so look. I'm not a physician or clinical trials. So i'm not going to comment on the science per se. But i want to ask a few questions first of all when pfizer and moderna or from pseudo company starts a clinical trial. Why did they have eighteen years of age as the minimum age of eligibility. So that's the first thing. I think companies usually go down to eighteen years of age. Just because it's tradition. There's so many variables in designing trial. And they just check the box for eighteen years of age. So i really want them to explain to us what the rationale was for not testing kids in the first place in the cancer world. Which i'm more familiar with what we talk about is there is a break around puberty and it is the case at sometimes pre puberty. There's a different dosage and scheduling and even potentially different toxicity profile for therapy. So maybe we do need to be more careful before puberty. But maybe we don't and let's talk about it. I think it's fantastic. That moderna has clinical trial down to six months of age or they will. I think that's really important. I hope that the trial is big enough that we're really going to get some important information. My understanding is pfizer doesn't have a trial. That's big enough to be sufficiently power to give us the information we need yet. You know i think when. We talk about Delaying clinical trials for kids or withholding. Do we really need a clinical trial for kids. Twelve to seventeen. Do we really need that. Extra information at and i just love vaccine. Clinical trial design experts to explain to us why we really needed. If some of those kids are as tall and heavy as adults taller and heavier than small women for example or even men. Because you know it is the case that three hundred kids of almost three hundred kids have died in the us. So far of covid and over two thousand kids have multi system inflammatory syndrome. And they're just sick sick kids and twelve school buses full of kids of died and as we delay. Vaccinations were saying that. They're going to be more kids who we know will die because they weren't vaccinated right and we know that they'll be thousands of kids who have multi inflammatory syndrome. Who will be really really sick. And they wouldn't have been if they got an early vaccination. So that's that's you know that's the harm that we're agreeing to experience so that we delay these vaccinations so one of the reasons that you created this voucher system is because you wanted to incentivize the drug companies to develop cancer drugs for kids cancer in kids as much rarer than it is in adults inchoate vaccines however they're designed to be given as you know given to as many people as possible. Twenty two percent of the population is under eighteen. So what do you think is happening here. You know look. We were all in a crisis as a nation in twenty twenty companies just put together whatever clinical trials they could. It's incredible that they got results so quickly that adults are able to be vaccinated but again. I think what's happening now is. They're not thinking about how to get information for kids as fast as possible. So there's been an increasing movement of vaccine hesitancy in pediatric vaccine even before cogan and the pandemic has led to sort of a different flavor of this a group of people worried the vaccines have been developed. Too fast for example. What do you think is the best way to address those concerns you know. I think that's such a great question. Meg and i just don't from a personal perspective. It's just not how i would. I would approach these issues. I'm a very careful in what i eat. I eat organic and plant. Based but as soon as i can get a vaccination. I'm going to be there right. So i'm clearly in the vaccination camp a couple years ago. My organization worked with the state of new york. There used to be an opportunity for for families to Not vaccinate their kids for certain. Vaccinations based on religious rationale and so new york has ended that exemption and people felt really really scared of vaccinations. And i think that that was the problem. I think we need to have a discussion. We need have more discussions with people who are really really scared and understand why they're scared and really see if we can find ways to assure them that it is really safer to vaccinate your kid or yourself than to go unvaccinated. We've spoken so many times over the years going back to two thousand fourteen And one thing you said to me at that. Time was your struck by the sort of approach of the the drug industry are the medical complex that we don't test drugs in kids because we want to protect them from the medicines were while the mindset should be were protecting them with medicines I i know you have more work. Going on in this area trying to incentivize drug companies to be testing simultaneously. Their drugs in kids. We just tell us more about bob. Sure well traditionally as you said we have a sort of paternalistic approach both in pharmaceutical and biotech industry and in our society at large where we say. Well let's test on adults first and then if we get you know if it's effective and if the taxes are acceptable then we'll try and kids but as you said the question is like know howard kids suffering while they aren't until they get this therapy and while they're waiting for adult clinical trials and in the cancer world..

I know a lot of nice nice jerks that turn into nice people when they're drunk by the way the opposite effect just because you drink does that mean does that give the excuse to use the emeralds reason why I bring that up because she did apologize unlike Nancy Goodman the racist in North Carolina was probably wearing a clan elf it as we speak she did not say she was sorry and she double down on using the N. word should never be used at anytime anywhere but this woman has apologized for her racist rant in an Instagram story calling her actions in humane and disgusting we agree on that she says she lost her job as a result don't feel bad for she deserved it. claims people have been harassing her online even showing up on our doorstep don't know if there's any truth to that. but if it is true I certainly don't condone that. she deleted all over IG post and her bio now reads please do not contact me I was intoxicated and I sincerely apologize to everyone who might you're suspecting let down for my actions please forgive me. here's my problem with that statement by the way I'm glad she at least at the very least apologized. but just because she was drunk is not a defense and it's not an excuse I don't care the fact she used as an excuse is extremely troubling is that where we are in society right now. is that where we are in society. that if.

"By the way if you don't if you don't know who that woman is her name is Nancy Goodman. we've been talking about a little bit she has tremendous anxiety well the reason why she said she has anxiety that was our excuse for calling a couple African American sitting in a restaurant the N. word so this is on social media it's on you tube everywhere if someone goes on a racial tirade likely we live in a world of cell phones now and this is a good thing I believe. in society because when someone goes on one of these racial tirades they deserve to lose their job in my opinion they deserve to be publicly humiliated. yes our first MM gives us the right to be a racist our first amendment gives us the right to hold up a sign on a public sidewalk that says I hate black people or I hate white people or whatever yes. that does give you the right but guess what your employer also has the right to fire you and we as Americans also have the right to post your racial tirades on social media well guess what it happened again Nancy Goodman isn't the only one. there is a woman in Hollywood California. who was walking out of a CVS store she is a pretty prominent costume designer for many of movies. and many celebrities know her pretty well this woman okay she lost her mind and she went nuts. okay this woman heather has apologized for this she went on a nutty racial tirade a lot of which we can even play on the air but we had the bleep out a lot of stuff it involves the N. word involves kill and she said she wanted to kill. black people but she was the other word to describe black people horrible words I want to I want you to hear the audio so this is heather herself. Hollywood costume designer walking out of CVS in Hollywood..

"Are you there suffer from a tremendous size. exactly. anyway thank you Nancy we appreciate you it's the gift that keeps on giving I do say that about Donald Trump he's like herpes he's the gift that keeps on giving so is Nancy Goodman that audio will never go away on the show. so what I'm told what what happens of Donald Trump gets impeached does our content just get reduced by sixty percent when we talk about amber I think of it as as having herpes and then your herpes goes away okay you saw doctor even though herpes is known to be a disease that won't go away so do you think that it miraculously disappear assuming he gets impeached and he ends up say say having his family out of going to jail for an extended period of time do you that's not gonna help you think that will still end up having content yes because I think that he is bringing us from behind bus because before Donald Trump as president I did a radio show and I did quite well with that show and I yes I do think that the content will be there no matter what Donald Trump I'm saying I'm saying Donald Trump oriented content well I I sadly I will admit they cannot do that I miss him do you think you'll find a way. You can be like by the way not for nothing cad Dan that sad <hes>. Let's see an asteroid doesn't need to be mouth wide to cuss significant damage this John was twice. The diameter was twice the height of the Statute of liberty in one thousand nine hundred eight space rock estimated to be several hundred times in diameter bit smaller than this one out went into or sadness fair traveling. Many thousands of miles per hour exploded over a remote Tonga's Scott are these words necessarily fair an astronomer would pronounce it somewhere in Siberia with the force of a thermonuclear weapon flattening trees than an area nearly twice the size in New York City that scary well. That's just a city cub. It's just a metropolis. It's not like a whole planet is going but isn't it better. The whole planet goes. If I'M NOT GONNA die the no okay all right right like if some if Siberia like we lose a couple of wolves and drunks. I'm you know someone an interesting story one of the options when they do when they are able to stop an asteroid they launch an object into space in Ramat into the rock head on on that takes it out of its orbit. Okay Cy wasn't that far off another involves what's called the gravity tractor it would involve sending a spacecraft to fly alongside asteroid for long periods of time years two decades and slowly pull it away from the earthbound pat that what was your plan. That sounds expensive. How expensive should the earth? How much should we how much did we spend to save it? Let's start a gofundme and see what people with an asteroid comes blows up. We final these diamonds. They use it for the next asteroid. I'm reading about this woman. Nancy Goodman seventy one years old about an American hero. You know about this low yeah. Word that a worker so call your friends the N. word understand and you're in my opinion. It might have been the my opinion way. It sounds like one of the women that she's he's yelling at says. "Did you see the video from the restaurant in Raleigh North Carolina where a racist white woman named Nancy Goodman walks right up to two young black customers there in calls them. I'm stupid niggers right to their face the next day when Nancy Goodman was confronted about it by the local media she not only refused to apologize city. She say it again and was glad that she said it the first time today day. I'm not so much going to examine this incident gonNA push back on one popular response that I've seen not just a Nancy Goodman but to trump and the rise of public bigotry and racism in the United States and and the responses this and maybe you've said it before yourself it some version of this at least now we know where they stay now. I know what you mean when you say this but let me teach us something about the nature of racism today okay all right. Let's begin this is Shaun King and you're listening to the breakdown the breakdown the breakdown <music> earlier this week at the bonefish grill which is like a slightly nicer version of Red lobster and I've been to a bonefish grill before earlier this week at the bonefish grill in Raleigh North Carolina too young black women were just they're having a nice meal together when an older white woman.

"This ignorant racist buffoon name Nancy Goodman North Carolina seventy one years old decided on video to call to African Americans the N. word because they were too loud and then when asked about it a day later she said she do it all again she said I have tremendous anxiety she went on to say she would absolutely do it again if put in the same circumstance and you know I tie that into what's going on in politics today Donald trump's lack of leadership these chance it is disgusting what is going on in our society and I want to continue on this path because it's not just racism we're talking about it's not the only thing we're talking about here what would you say to somebody that mimics a mentally disabled person and mocks sexual assault we've been talking about Kubrat pull left the story of the boxer who kisses this woman on the lips this reporter he lost his boxing license he just got it reinstated this is a serious situation for him if he does it again he'll probably never box again or at least not for very long time so this reporter is interviewing him and in the middle of the interview this guy I don't even hear of a mental few weeks ago they call him the schmo he interviews MMA fighters and boxers he pretends as though he is mentally disabled I don't see anything funny in that at all so I want to play you a little this this this clip here tell me what you if you think of anything is funny about this telling me here with eyes on the game here out top rank boxing gym being joined by the one and only Mister pool let himself great to see you again now hold on hold on hold on this is this from pool is nice to see you you a good Helen as usual you look good we're gonna make sure that this is a clean interview no kissing knoll for growth no no chance hello tenth no no he said no sorry no no no no for good all right please try to be funny this guy he's trying to make something funny out of a very serious circumstance this guy lost his boxing license and again this guy if it's his shtick you know if you know what the word schtick is this is a sticky acts like somebody who slow I don't see anything funny in that I don't see anything funny in making fun of sexual salts brands were Polet did do we have sticks I certainly wouldn't make fun of sexual assault I certainly up hello by the way thank you for joining us are you yes very very well I don't recall ever in my lifetime making fun of somebody that's handicapped impersonating somebody who's mentally challenged or making fun of sexual assault that's what this guy the schmo is doing when I watch this video I'm like are you kidding me disgusting we'll take your calls two five seven five three nine six I bring this up because I think it ties into racism there people out there they're just they're so insensitive to what's going on in the world you can't use the N. word in any way shape or form this woman is trying to say it's okay to use the N. word it's okay when you're angry at someone used the N. word she's she's making the excuse that she has tremendous anxiety is what she said she's she's probably headed to a Klan meeting as we speak and then making fun of people who are mentally disabled making a joke out of sexual assault is that were society is right now again that numbers two five seven five three nine six months ago to Micah who's been waiting patiently on old make a how are you I am very good are you doing good me go what's on your mind when you think about all this I guess yeah stop by on your radio station and I I would just want to comment on some feel happy I am a Filipino immigrant so pardon my grammar and my language place but I do speak English and I'm trying to explain my hot about like your topic you're doing better than me by the way for the record your English is much better than mine I'm being serious by the way please go ahead you might take my job go ahead despite the let the leadership that are the president I we have right now yes I want to comment and I I don't think the I don't see any races them like at all like on when he said she can go back if she doesn't you know I'm just doing a comment that our president says that the chance of it right and her back that's not what he said that's not what he said he didn't say love it or leave it that's not what he said in his tweet say any names than any form I mean I didn't see it I mean I far as me an immigrant I came here like I see in that I wouldn't want anybody to I just some might call true because I need to I guess the one quarter that I have okay or are you kind of kinda like me were you were you believe that racism isn't necessarily apply unless there's a slur attached to it right out there in all it's it's gonna be everywhere questioned me go what about the chant the chant send her back you think if she was a white person that chant would have happened I think that thank you if you're talking about so I white person it will be on air on all on media nobody would even talk about ask your question is a decent point but I'm asking a question of do you think if it was a white person Donald Trump would have said that because he said it on Twitter Micah with all due respect I disagree with you everything he says on Twitter is reported I look at his tweets all day okay right so if you set it I've never heard him tell white person to go back to their country I've never heard somebody in my lifetime tell a white person forget about the president go back to your country because number one it would make any sense three of these four women were born in the United States of America now let me ask you a question Micah have you ever criticized let's just say the Obama administration or any administration do you have a problem with any policies in America any any political put anything political do you disagree with anything America's doing well I mean there is a one on a media all okay so when Obama was in one of our president yes they don't die on media right now they're gonna need still collared black and brown all over again media okay still that's Micah I'm trying to get you to answer my question let's try try to focus here okay first of all I'm not black or brown I'm whiter than white that's number one number two have you have a problem with any policy in this country have you criticize Bronco bomber for any policy yeah okay so if I told you okay hold on I'll let you respond now if I told you go back to your country you must hate the country because you dislike some of Obama's policies would you be okay with that well if I am doing something that I'm not following their rules learned a lot Micah near country because that's not what I'm asking listen to me for a second because you seem like a very smart woman hear me out here okay you just said you've criticized some of Obama's policies at least three at least three of those four women I don't agree with Omar but three of those four women that's all they've done they've disagreed with Donald trump's policies they've gone after him for policy now trump said go back to your country and I what I'm trying to do is I'm trying to make a perfect example I think I'm making a very good analogy you just said on the show as a woman from the Philippines and I love the Filipino people you just said that you've had a problem with some of Bronco bombs policies so if somebody okay but if somebody that was an Obama supporter said to you you must hate our country go back to your country I know you would have a problem with that it is the exact same thing no I'm not at all agree with it and then somebody call me if you don't like it go back I would like all absolutely I don't even want to go and distressed and you know what's going on in the in all like and what you just said and and I respect the call me god was trying to make the analogy I I don't know if you understand what I'm getting at here you have a problem you have a problem with Obama's policies Cortez three at least three of those four women have a problem with trump's policies what's the difference JD what's the difference what's the diversity in calling or would we have a car that that calls us losers and tells us that our show is terrible but they still listen to our show if if if you're in the United States are right if you're in a country you hate it why are you there in the first place that's kind of the same but the same why agree to understand I just I I get it so do you disagree with what I just said the analogy I tried to make she has a problem with some of Obama's policies JD I would never tell her she hates the country I would never tell her to go back to her car it's again it's it's issue based it is come down issues as far as an all encompassing but it soon hatred but it should matter what the issue is over whatever going after a policy that doesn't mean you hate the country that's the point I was trying to make let's go to Marge Marge what's going on well first of all I think your southern accent you should use of water from all on March on March tremendous anxiety my name is Nancy Goodman I'm seventy one years old from North Carolina these black people to give me tremendous exactly so I think it's okay to call in the order I'm sorry go ahead margins are perfect I I would I would use the promo not this time I went to the thank you Marge and Bridget we might do that what's on your mind well well one of things I mean this whole thing it and and you you brought up the the the person who is disabled or whatever correct yes sorry member trump making fun of someone I also yes he did stable yes he did you are right example the leadership in a I think Michael yesterday talked about he had hoped that went from it offended the presidency that he would be very diplomatic an executive type of federal you know I had hoped the same thing myself personally yeah we were wrong but that's not what we're getting tacitly definitely not I agree yeah and and I think that you know he he in in he like for this past week until a home your thinking of yesterday yeah he was grinding into the sand now he's after New York yeah so we cannot change topic again yeah he loves are just an interesting it just seems like he loves to do that Marge I gotta get to some other callers it's always great to hear from the I appreciate it thank you Marge two five seven five three nine six Jeff Jeff your next what's going on yeah Brian I just like that set you straight on this whole house Spender acting okay it as most of the.

"To them I regret not asking management to tell the women to be quiet but she made one thing clear so you're not sorry about saying the N. word he doesn't get any worse than this M. tremendous anxiety those black people that just give me tremendous exactly so I just went over there not call them yeah do it again because I have tremendous exactly in my name is Nancy and I'm allowed to do that they give me tremendous inside I mean how dumb it does this woman sound seriously they forced me into it she said call them the N. word is there any situation in life or anybody forces you to save the M. word I mean I suppose if somebody is putting a gun to your face and says I'm going to shoot you unless you call this person the N. word I guess that's the only time I guess you're forced into saying it can you know I'm being serious now can you ever be forced into saying that word I really can't think of one I can't now I know what some of you are going to be sent what what correlation are you trying to make here it's very simple the correlation I'm trying to make yes I do believe there are a lot of ignorant morons racist people out there like Nancy Goodman unfortunately but usually when they're caught on video when they're caught on tape using the N. word usually they they apologize even if they don't meet it right you'll hear somebody with a half hearted apology that'll say you know what my emotions got the best of me I shouldn't have used that word I'm sorry now whether they need it or not usually they'll say this woman just flat out said she do it again and why because she thought these women were too loud in a restaurant so she calls them the N. word I have tremendous anxiety sorry that's my that's my Nancy Goodman impersonation we do what we call them the N. word I can just see this woman in a white Cape somewhere at some rally this weekend it's just so gross so let me make the correlation of trying to make your now I am I blaming Donald Trump for this woman and what she did now certainly not directly but it's this type of woman in this type of thinking that are okay with the chant of send her back this is not political how many times do I have to say it I say it over and over again this is not about politics this is about hate you could you know you can talk about all more all day long and I'll probably agree with you I don't think she should be in Congress if you want to say send her out of office I would not have a problem with that in fact I might check that with you because I agree with you I don't like more I don't think she should be in office I've said that a million times this has to do with skin color this has to do with race it is flat out racist to say go back to your country and if you disagree with that sorry your complicit it's very very simple now there are many people out there like Nancy good but now she is obviously a racist ignorant buffoon whatever word you want to use but if the president stood up there on that stage and if the president said in that thirteen seconds when he kind of soap in the chant with the stupid little smirk on his face instead if the president said guys let's change the chant to sender out of office she doesn't need to leave the country or if you just halted that chant maybe some dummy and some racist like Nancy Goodman maybe she would see that if she is a follower of the president maybe she would hear that and maybe she wouldn't say things like the N. word just maybe I don't know that for sure but just maybe this is horrible the woman who she called the N. word to said she was supposed to be having dinner with her girlfriends and ended up in us being called stupid and word she says the climate of the country today has some people thinking whatever they feel they can say the reality is if we were to retaliate with this kind of hate and ignorance we would be called angry black women I agree with her one hundred and fifty percent she goes on to say as I prepare my child for the real world these are some of the people I prepare her for the hateful prejudiced races to think we should all go back to where we came from hopefully this idiot is not your coworker your neighbor your friend if so what will you do with this information I could not agree with this one when she she explained that so eloquently and I feel for her that she had to go through this experience with that evil racist woman seventy one year old Nancy Goodman my gosh you know what I hope Nancy governor I hope a bunch of people start chanting outside of her house and tell her to go back to where she came from I wonder if she would like that number to call if you want to be a part of this conversation seven oh two two five seven five three nine six again that number two five seven five three nine six this anxiety this black people that just give me tremendous exotic slot just feel like I have to call them and I would do it again apologize for what I said that's what this woman so I'm just repeating her own words that is what she said let me tell you something folks as a white person and by the way they don't get anymore whiter than me but that's another story for another show I am embarrassed that this woman is white I am embarrassed that she is she is even in society I mean I'm just amazed that there are any it's out there like this woman morons and I'm so glad that this woman that recorded this on her phone by the way thank god that we know who this ignoramus is what would you have done what would you have done if you work at this restaurant would you have stepped in I would have said some Dover said you are racist you are more and get the hell out of this restaurant that's what I was said to her and I would have apologized to those two African American women who I thought he handled the situation very very well that could have gotten really ugly really ugly really fast again that number to call to five seven five three nine six seven oh two two five seven five three nine six let's go to Brady Brady what's going on yeah breakup I DO bright I want to bring up what Hillary said Arnold feel no ways tired I think you need to take a little bit example from hurt okay let me respond by saying this Brady Hillary Clinton is not the president of the United States Hilary okay that's fine that's your opinion politically Hillary Clinton is not in office I could name you a lot of people in politics that I've said some some I racist things okay but the person I am talking about right now the person that I choose to focus on I get it you're on the right you're trump supporter I understand that I understand many Republicans want to do what about ism and bring up Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama all those other things guess what they're not in office anymore Brady Donald Trump is in office and Donald Trump had an opportunity to stop that chant and he didn't do it Donald Trump had an opportunity not to put out those tweets telling people to go back to their country and he didn't do it am I directly blaming him for this seventy one year old idiot no I'm not but what I am trying to say is if he actually showed some leadership on these types of issues and by the way I'm not talking about trying to get a rapper in another country at a jail that's not going to help our our discourse here in this country that's what he's doing thanks to Kanya west who made a phone call Brady you understand what I'm trying to say here the president is our leader he is the leader of the free world he needs to show leadership on these types of issues and when a chant like that happens you have to end it right away you have to shut these people down that are racist I'm not even gonna call the president a racist but I'm gonna say he didn't handle the situation the way he should of and what is it lead to it could lead to people like seventy one year old Nancy Goodman in these types of situations how do you feel about you I mean I got to ask your opinion on the New or thing that came out yesterday when he was interviewed you know I don't even know that Hillary Clinton not president she's been around for the last two and a half years because she's the one who was involved why are you obsessed with Hillary Clinton why do you every question Brady she's not in the office I Brady this is right now Brady you listen to me now okay hang up on him and I'll continue the conversation because he won't let me talk let me tell you something Brady the problem with people like you you can't talk about the actual message you can't I'm talking about a woman who called to African Americans the N. word and you decide in the first sentence to bring up Hillary Clinton what would you call somebody like that why don't you stick to the issues and stop your I don't I guess I guess your I guess your obsession with Hillary Clinton okay maybe she'll divorce bill one day maybe you could ask her on a date you probably have a big Hillary Clinton poster on your wall for all I know two five seven five three nine six go to Tony Tony what's going on Tony are you there Anthony here around here I don't I've been went through the whole conversation an hour it turned what I wanted to stay in the something now so you keep saying to the that last caller was going off on a different issue with Hillary Clinton but why don't we stay on point and talk about what that woman and we're using the N. word is absolutely inappropriate wrong in her however why is it okay when black people call white people cracker was okay excuse me when did I say it was okay for black people to call white people crackers Tony have I ever on the show wider than anybody call that out well you know there's a lot of things in society that Iran would you like to go through every single one of them we can take about thirty straight hours to do that Tony what about this what about that I'm not talking about what African Americans say to white people if there's a specific example that triggers I want to talk about it on this radio show I will do it let me let me let me be clear it's wrong for any type of racism when it comes from and the skin color and any person can I be more clear than that I'm focusing on this issue and how it relates to our president right now or what about before rabble rouser what about Congress this is the address now this is your art this is unbelievable every sentence starts with what about every sentence starts with what about can we focus on what we're talking about here what I'm talking about yes I I appreciate the fact that you stated the obvious right that calling somebody the N. word is wrong also telling someone to go back to their country is wrong having a president say that on Twitter is wrong having a chapter of center back is wrong can we agree on that Tony now I will be no I don't think it's wrong of course you don't mind the shocker all right now that this should not be a shocker now it's a shocker to me is such a shocker transporter and you don't think there's anything wrong with that chance go ahead one part of my family is from Italy the other parts from Syria okay yeah I told family members well the way they do in Syria is there is the way they do it in Italy is this if you don't like it go back you can reserve Tony have you ever voted for a Democrat in your life who would I vote that was my question my question was as you have you ever voted for a Democrat in your life if a good one came along so the answer is no okay we got to the we got to the focal point of this phone call thank you Tony that is what you call right wing bias right there can't even admit the president isn't showing leadership and that's why I asked that question there are plenty Republicans out there that will admit it but obviously Tony is not one of them I don't I mean it's just it's just ridiculous every sentence at what about this what about that scholar brings up Hillary Clinton it's just ridiculous what about this folks what about speaking of what about how about just stating the obvious this woman is a horrible person she is a racist and it is very dangerous what is happening in this country we have a lot of division I'm not just talking about Paul does not about race and yes if you want to bring up Iraq a bomb I don't think he did a good job of race relations but I'm gonna tell you right now it's getting worse.
