"The NCAA tournament, there was a big headline on Saturday out of Memphis. The daily Memphis and the commercial appeal, both obtained copies of Memphis's notice of allegations, not pretty. Four level one violations, the notice of allegations that Memphis released, it is heavily redacted. So we remain light on details. But again, there are four level one violations. And what we do know is that it alleges that Memphis quote failed to disclose and provide access to all personal devices, failed to timely produce requested and relevant documents. And failed to protect the integrity of the investigation. Memphis is more or less accused of obstructing the investigation. If true, that's obviously bad. Strong jaw as an Oklahoma state alum, you know what it's like to have NCAA issues. How concerned should Memphis fans be right now? Yeah, I was actually just thinking about this in the context of Oklahoma state. I would imagine that Memphis is going to be hit pretty hard. Probably a postseason ban. I would think would be kind of the bar. Uncle state had a postseason ban. They had scholarship losses, they're on probation. And this was for a former assistant, LeMond Evans, who allegedly accepted like 18,000 in bribery money to use his influence to steer players to certain financial advisers. OSU fired him, but the insta boy said an aggravating factor in that case was Evans decision not to cooperate. Local mistake cooperated in full with instantly investigators and they were still hit really, really hard. The fact that Memphis openly defied what is typically NCAA tradition, in this case, being James weisman's eligibility questions typically, if that happens, a school holds out a player until they're able to clear it with the NCAA. James weisman kept playing. James weisman filed lawsuit. He got an injunction, and he was able to keep playing. Now, he only played in three games for Memphis. I'm not sure if you take that into account or not. Obviously the instrument did not. But Memphis opened defiance of insta a norms, the fact that they didn't not properly preserve documents is how the insta boy put it. Mike Miller's hard drive was wiped. It doesn't look good from Memphis. We will see, I guess, how this goes, the Memphis case is obviously going through a coma state's case, did not go through. But this looks pretty grim for penny Hardaway, who was the only individual mentioned in the case. And from Memphis to, I would imagine they're going to be facing some pretty stiff penalties. And I'm curious to see how they handle Memphis and also penny Hardaway as well. The frustrating thing is that this is all just so stupid. And something that was totally avoidable had Memphis just done what literally every school besides Memphis, I think, would have done when it was told James wiseman had eligibility problems. All Memphis had to do is exactly what you ready for this? Kentucky once did. Within his Cantor. What Kansas once did with Billy Preston Silvio de Sousa, what Louisville once deal with Brian Bowen. What Syracuse once deal with fab Melo. What Carolina once did with PJ Harrison. What auburn once did with Austin Wiley and Danielle purefoy. You know, as I explained in a column back in 2019 that you reminded me of Kyle, I forgot I'd written it. But you tweeted and I saw it. I was like, oh, that's pretty good. I was like, let me read it and see how this holds up. And I was like, this holds up really well. As I explained in the column back in 2019, when eligibility issues arose with each of those players, at some of the biggest schools in college basketball, that's the thing Memphis fans get caught up on sometimes. Oh, they're only doing this to Memphis. They wouldn't do this to kids if they literally have done it to Kansas multiple times. They wouldn't do this to Kentucky. They did it to Kentucky. Well, they wouldn't do this to North Carolina. They did it to North Carolina. You guys don't have Google? As I explained back in 2019, when eligibility issues arose with each of those programs, they players were withheld from competition until the issues were resolved. Period. In some cases, they were never resolved. Favorably, in his cancer, never played for Kentucky. Billy Preston never played for Kansas. But James wiseman was always going to be able to play for Memphis eventually. All Memphis had to do is rule him ineligible and then apply for reinstatement instead of playing in those first three games. And I know that people sometimes bring up, well, he got an injunction. You know, he went to court and got an injunction. Okay. He got an injunction. All that meant was that he couldn't be ruled ineligible. It didn't mean he had to play. There was no court or judge that can make penny Hardaway turn in a certain starting lineup. No judge can make you but if I get an injunction, can I start from Memphis? What are you talking about? This is the thing that some methods may just steal, can not understand. Holy God. Just because he got an injunction doesn't mean he had to play. You didn't have to play it. All Memphis had to do is rule him ineligible,.

"Theoretically they could already have three national championships. They were in it in the final minutes against North Carolina. They had one of the best teams in 2020. If you want to say they were never winning last season because Baylor was just going to destroy them every time. Fine. I'm not going to argue that. But few could be a two time national championship coach right now. If you just play that North Carolina game out from the moment it's a one possession, it's tied with a few minutes to go. Let's play that game ten times, see what happens. Carolina probably wins 5 of them. Gonzaga wins 5 of them. Just the one that counted, the only one they did. It went Carolina's way. And this is another example of a team that's got a chance. To win the national championship, but I don't mean just has a chance like, well, you know, it's a single elimination tournament. Everybody has a chance. No, everybody doesn't have a chance. I mean, everybody's in the bracket. At least 55 of those teams have no realistic chance to win the national championship. Gonzaga does the adjusted efficiency margin at Kim Palmer is now up to plus 34.66. That's higher than what Baylor's was last season after Baylor won the national championship and it's more than 5 points better than anybody else in the country right now. So yeah, if the zags are out there slapping around, BYU and San Francisco and everybody else they play. I'm going to assume they do the same thing to saint Mary's on Saturday. Isn't countering with a Keller boothby, who has a similar tradition. That's exactly right. Period of time. Trivia time. Okay. Keller boothby, Gary, he attended press prestonwood Christian academy in Plano, Texas for high school. What current NBA all star also attended prestonwood Christian academy. NBA all star. I actually can't say for sure, is this year, but he's been one. He's been an all star. Very, very recently, yeah. I'm trying to think of players from the Dallas area who are great the NBA. I'm completely blanking. I don't even have a guess for you. Apparently, Julius Randle went there too. Julius Randle went to school there. Julius Randle, by the way, definitely not an all star this season. But he has been one. He's been bad this season, but he has been an all star. But okay, so Keller booth being Julius Randle, both went to the same high school. Not sure I would have guessed that. But yeah, that's me a real GM. I looked that up while you were talking about something. Okay, yeah, like Keller boothby on the saint Mary's roster. Now we got a different conversation. As it is, yeah, I'll take Gonzaga and lay the 14 points. Game four. Imagine yeah, imagine going back at Preston wood, you know, over the summer, and your color booth be and Julius Randle walks in to get some breaths, you know? And then you got to stick that guy in some pickup that does Julius Randle right now, have any idea who killer booth B is. If he's a listener to the pod he does yeah, I'm going to say probably not. Game four, Saturday, 10 p.m. eastern number 12 UCLA at number 21 USC inside the OJ Mayo center. Kim pom has it UCLA minus three. You can watch it on ESPN. Yeah, I'm going to see it minus three. Okay, I'm going to go do CLA. I understand that UCLA is not its best self right now. Had a couple of bad losses within the last week or so. Not that losing to Arizona is a bad loss, but losing to Arizona state definitely is. USC though, I don't necessarily believe in. And I think the PAC 12 is very mediocre and anyway, you see a lay, I think, is just better. I don't think there's going to be some massive home court advantage with the crosstown set up and whatnot for USC. So UCLA, I think, once this game by 6 or 7. Yeah, USC is ranked right now. I don't have them in the top 25 and one. Like they have good computer numbers, but what have they done? Who would they be? Yeah. I mean, their best win San Diego state. And that's a good win. But USC sitting here one in one in quadrant one. They've got good computer numbers, and it's totally reasonable to rank them if you want to. That wouldn't be where I would devote a politics column if I were writing one. But they've got as many losses in quadrant three as they do in quadrant one. I'm not saying the team's not good. I'm just saying the team hasn't done much. Perception, the national perception of USC was artificially inflated by their weak schedule to start out with because they were coming in off a pretty good NCAA tournament run because Isaiah mobley was a player people remembered who was putting up numbers. You know, they were able to rise into the top ten on the heels of an easy schedule. And now I think they've just been exposed a little bit and I think they're going to make the NCA tournament that I don't think they're much of a threat. Yeah, they started 13 and O. So it's like, well, they were supposed to be good and they're 13 and O and they kept moving up the rankings and moving up the rankings. And then they lost a Stanford beat Oregon state, lose to Oregon, you know, they've also stand for twice now. Like maybe that should be a rule. You can't lose the Stanford twice in the same season and be ranked in the a people. Period. That's like a stipulation. You know, they went to Arizona, lost by 9, they were in a game with Pacific earlier this week. Now, Isaiah mobley didn't play. And that's to perhaps that accounts for that. But yeah, I just don't know, they're good. I just don't know if they're as good as they've been perceived to be this season. I don't know if they're as good as the number beside their name, suggests they are. I'll take UCLA minus the three..

"Maybe this isn't interesting at all. Maybe this is just obvious. But when they were struggling early, it was like, you know, the very simple. What's wrong with Michigan? The simple answer was hunter Dickinson is back for a sophomore year and he hasn't really taken a jump. You know, he just kind of looks like the same player. He's producing it more or less the same level. And the two 5 star freshman aren't playing like 5 star freshmen. And so we're good last night. They sure did last night. That's my point. When you lose what Michigan lost and then you are replacing it with 5 star freshmen, the only way to maintain what you were or improve is for the 5 star freshman to play like 5 star freshman. And they didn't at the beginning of the season. But they did last night and hunter Dickinson played like a different player last night. He got 22 points, 9 rebounds against that Zach ED trevion Williams front line. And he's been on a real tear lately. Past 5 games, hunter Dickinson is averaging 24 points and 8 rebounds. On the season, he's now averaged in 18.3 points 8.3 rebounds. So why is Michigan suddenly different team? A lot of different reasons. But among them, hunter Dickinson has taken it up a level and the two 5 star freshman are starting to play. They're not just good prospects anymore. They've become good college basketball players. Produce defense was so bad last night, Gary, that they made hunter Dickinson look like jaren Jackson junior in threes out there. No, and he's shooting a not bad percentage from the he obviously doesn't take a lot of them, but he's made that shot. This season. So again, I don't want to pretend to be Jerry palm. I'll let him. First of all, by the way, I just pulled it up. They were not on the bubble last night. This morning, palm's got them first foreign. So he's got a last 400 last four in. Yeah, got it. Okay, so there you go. According to Jerry palm, they're now on the correct side of the bubble. Which is, I don't want to say amazing. But not something I think we would have predicted. You know, when they were 7 and 7 overall, one in three in the Big Ten. It looked like, you know, this might just be a Michigan team that goes down as one of the biggest disappointments in the country. Start the season preseason top ten. But now they've got it headed in the right direction. And congrats, Michigan fans. You're now in the field of 68 as projected by the great Jerry palm. A Clemson player, nearly killed a duke player Thursday night. We're going to get into that next, but first, a word from our sponsors..

"Go out there and find something if you're Purdue. I don't want to cast it as though it's impossible for Purdue to overcome this. I think that silly because the computers don't decide things. But they are telling the data is interesting. And it should be taken into consideration here that Purdue could be could be a first weekend flame out if they get the wrong matchup. I mean, they don't play that well away from home sometimes. And depending on who they draw, that first weekend in that second round game and what would probably end up being a 7 seat or an 8 seat or a 9 seat or whatever. You know, that team could sneak up on. The comparison I've consistently made is to last season's Iowa team. Because people were pretty dismissive of Iowa as a legitimate championship contender. Because terrific offensively got the best player in the country. That's all true, but the defense is terrible. And you just can't you're not going to win an actual championship with that defense. And I think the reason people were so quick to attach that label to Iowa is because Iowa has a history of being really good offensively and not so good defensively. So it was easy to slap that on them. Oh, I've seen this story before. With Purdue, people have been more hesitant to attach that exact same label to it. They've been good at defense in the past. Right. They've had good defensive teams. Right. And I think that's why, or at least among the reasons why people aren't talking about this Purdue team, the way they talked about last season's Iowa team. But the truth is that I was in last season, was third in offensive efficiency and 75th in defense and efficiency. Iowa last season was significantly better defensively than this Purdue team is. And what happened to that Iowa team, they did more or less what a lot of people thought they would do, which is get eliminated before the final four in the instead of Lake tournament. In fact, they lost in the second round, they got blasted by Oregon while giving up 95 points. They lost 95 to 80 in the second round of the NCA tournament. I'm not predicting a similar fate for Purdue. I just think it's interesting right now if you try, or at least before last night, if you try to stand up and say, I don't think that getting to the if you said it this definitively. Produce that get into the final four because they stink defensively and you can't get there with the defense like that. You got a lot of pushback. What do you mean? They got jaiden ivy. They'd just be Illinois. They are awesome offensively. They looked the part. People would have pushed back on it. But when you said the same thing about Iowa and sees the people didn't really push back. And this Purdue team is worse than that Iowa team on the defensive end of the court. It's just an interesting thing that I think is worth. You know, we've been sort of following it on this podcast for a while now. This is a point that I'm not making for the first time. But it is worth following as the season progresses. Purdue is obviously terrific and a lot of ways, but that defense, man. That is a real fundamental flaw that could lead to exactly what you just suggested, which is an early and early exit from the incident of the tournament. Matt Payne were last night. I got a quote from him. We had breakdowns in ball screen defense. We had breakdowns containing the bounce. We had breakdowns when we were supposed to double and we had breakdowns when we were supposed to trap in the post. I could go on for a long time with that. So they know. They know that that is the issue now. I mean, how do you fix it? That's the thing. You know, is it possible for a team that's terrible defensively on February 11th to be significantly better on March 11? Like we've been talking about this all season. You know, the season starts in November. It's February. And they just have it whatever the problems are. And I remember Matt talking about this very early in the season. Like when they took their first loss, Matt just, you know, he's never hit from this. If he were listening right now, he wouldn't be offended or bothered by what I'm saying. He'd probably be nodding and saying, I know what you know. It's a smart guy and a great basketball coach. You know, is it possible to fix this stuff by the time you needed to get fixed? Maybe maybe, but here's what I'm hoping for if I'm Purdue. I bet in some ways it can be difficult to communicate the urgency of the defensive struggles to a team that for the most part is just being universally praised. If you're, you know, Jade navy, trevion Williams, Zachary, everybody on that roster, you're hearing a lot of good things about yourself. Over the course of this season, you're smoking some teams. Jay and I was in the lottery conversation, you know, Edie and Williams are two of the best bigs in the country. And they probably hear that quite a bit, and it's true. When you lose games by two points and you lose once every couple weeks and you're in the top 5 in the country and you're in the running for a number one seed, I mean, it can be difficult. I would imagine to really communicate the urgency of certain areas of improvement to a roster that for the most part is really excelling at what they're meant to do. But now maybe last night in that loss, maybe it can be a wake-up call of sorts, hey, guys. We just lost by 24 points to a Michigan team that wasn't even on the bubble according to Jerry palm, entering the game last night. So maybe this could be a turning point. If I was going to take a positive approach to Purdue's predicament, that would maybe be the way I would spin it. And I don't know the locker room dynamics there. I don't know if that's the case, but just from thinking of it from a human motivational standpoint. I mean, in their three losses before last night, they'd lost by a combined ten points. So if I'm a player on that team, am I really do I really buy that we're deeply flawed until I see it in a way like I saw it last night, I don't know, maybe now that that will open their eyes and consistence of urgency to get better defensively. Well, every good coach I know takes moments like last night. And uses them to reinforce points. They probably have been trying to make. That's why sometimes you hear a coach that team starts 14 and O or 17 O and then they take a loss. And you'll hear a coach say, sometimes we needed that. You know, we needed that. They don't want to lose. But you try to find the positive in losing. All right, now maybe they'll listen to me. When I say, okay, we're winning. We're winning. Great, but this is going to catch up to us at some point. This issue that I'm stressing to you is going to get us at some point. You know, when you're dealing with a team that is enjoying a lot of success, you know, I don't want to speak for the Purdue players, but just broadly speaking, you know, I can understand how a 19 year old or a 21 year old basketball player would be like, all right, coach. We got we hear you, but we're fine. And then you get smacked the way you get smacked last night, and maybe, you know, whatever the coaching staff is stressing today on that end of the court, perhaps it'll resonate a little better than it was this time yesterday because they got embarrassed. Last night by a Michigan team, as you noted, wasn't really even on the bubble before last night's game. But this will be a place to transition to the wolverines. I think they probably are now, or they're at least getting close to it. You know, this is a team that started 7 and 7 overall one in three in the Big Ten. They took losses to Minnesota and UCF. And now they're 13 to 9 overall. 7 and 5 in the Big Ten, they got wins over Purdue, Indiana, San Diego state. You know, there are two and 5 in quadrant one, three and three in quadrant two. So 5 and 8, the first two quadrants with a quad three loss to Minnesota. I don't think that gets you there yet, but you're back in the game. You know, you're back inching in the right direction. Like I said earlier, 6 and two in the past 8. And among the reasons, it's interesting..

"Baseball games end up going into the wee hours of the morning. Some even get suspended because everybody there is too tired to care. Tammy, why do you think basketball is cooler than baseball? Because it's more popular. Duh. And there you have it. Basketball is way more popular than baseball. As of 2021, roughly 2.4 billion people follow basketball, while only about 500 million people track baseball. The people have spoken. Part of what makes basketball so popular is how accessible it is. All you need is a ball, a hoop or two, and a little bit of space. That's actually how it started. A 130 years ago at the international YMCA training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. A storm was raging. And James Naismith, a phys Ed teacher, needed to come up with a game that his students could play together indoors without much equipment. So he approached the school janitor for help. Say Jerry, do you have any boxes? No. But I've got peach baskets. I think I can make this work. Naismith nailed the baskets on either side of the Jim balcony. Through one of his students a soccer ball and told folks to start shooting hoops. The game was an instant hit. And it's been making huge gains in popularity and attention ever since..

Detroit Pistons Sign Luka Garza

"Luke garza could actually become a real. Nba player that guy that one collegiate player of the year and yet nobody wanted and is drafted in the nba draft What ended up with twenty and fourteen or something. Last night he was. He was outstanding Again he has dow signed a two way deal. So luger's who does nobody been. It's he'll end up getting four The pistons but luca garza signed a two two way deal. He of course had a historic collegiate career at iowa. But he was you know by all accounts slow-footed big played near around the basket and so was of no use to people in the nba. And yet he made threes. He put up to huge double doubles and in their finale. Last night ends it with twenty one point and fifteen rebounds and got himself a two way contract so the luka garza dream is still alive after getting selected fifty second in the nba draft. He was good and he's fun. You know he's a real throwback but I i love the idea of becoming you know. Just the there's i went back and looked kevin. There's never been a guy like you by where this has happened work. I becomes the naismith player of the year in college basketball. Nobody wants him now. Not all of them have panned out. I e like the tyler hands boroughs but tolerance was like a lottery pick. I think frank mason might be the lowest and he was like at the beginning of the second round nobody. There's not even close to being selected. Fiftieth or fifty. Second whatever you've picked.

"James Naismith's in name the guy that invented basketball you got his name on the court it's an iconic school their number one of the country they only have three losses they're dominating what has been for the last half decade the best conference in college basketball but they're a nameless faceless team because they don't have one in daughters they've got veteran players yeah I understand when Baylor's good and they don't have a star why America wouldn't pay attention to that Kansas is proof to me in order to get casual fans to watch college basketball you need a big time one and done players at the biggest schools and do because a few of them this year but they're not great Kentucky always has one and done guys but they don't have a surefire top three top five pick on their roster yeah the great freshmen basketball players are not at the big schools this year they're not going to be in the NC double a tournament Georgia probably has the best player in the country they're a one man team they're not going to make the tournament Colantoni it's not a last place team in North Carolina he might be a top five pick Memphis they probably had that Weissmann kid was arguably the best big man in America he quit the team he left because of a argument with the NC double life Lonzo ball's brother is playing overseas so there's no great the best player in America might be at Dayton or the best player that's gonna be the NC double a tournament to play for the Dayton flyers an Atlantic ten school so college basketball is parity but they have a talent void in the talent void is related back or tied back into the one and done rule what college basketball is big when it's getting talked about on shows like this when it resonates our national sports radio what it resonates on the debate shows on the network on the cable sports network it's when there are great one and done players with NBA potential that's when the sport crosses over it becomes mainstream when we have those types of players to talk about we don't have those guys this year so that's why it's going to be a fairly anonymous NC double a tournament there are no goliaths for that reason so I think it becomes an NC double a tournament I think March madness is really going to be defined by the coaches I think the coaches are going to be the biggest names going here bill self can you win another title mark feel he's been to the final four he's been to the national championship game Getty finally when it can J. right still another national title at Villanova key when a third can coach Izzo Mr final four key with a second title can coach K. with a bunch of freshmen in a veteran point guard Kenny Kenny put it together in March can John Calipari with a second title those are to me the biggest storylines if you're gonna take a team to win the NC double a tournament this year it's not gonna be like last season where you find zygarde or Java land or Colby white at North Carolina you're gonna I think based your pick some coaches the coaches you trust the coaches you don't trust because there's a lot of nameless gray faces in college basketball this year and so it's really been a largely irrelevant or ignored season for that reason how many college basketball stories have gone national or become mainstream this year solid we have a big scandal a big recruiting scandal or big NC double a scandal to talk about with how many big games have we talked about Duke Duke North Carolina was dramatic North Carolina stage Michigan state Maryland a plate a couple times but Michigan state even older veteran laden and they probably have three or four NBA players and they got one of the few things a senior point guard has been around Cassius Winston that's a name people are familiar with it's kind of like Mateen cleaves to point out they've struggled at times this year so this is my opportunity here to really preview and give you a primer for March madness and I think a few things are true here that that really resonate with me number one if college basketball it's gonna be a story before March it needs one and done players in the sack of the NBA changes that rule they left the high school kids go straight to the NBA I think college basketball is going to become even less relevant because it's gonna have a less star power should have fewer NBA players making up the sport is going to be a bigger talent drain on the sport the NC double a tournament this is seen is viewed as wide open because of that yesterday we had ranked teams go five in six against unranked teams so there's a lot of parity but I don't think parity is not made college basketball appointment viewing this year I think the hope is for the sport if you are invested in college basketball if you love it like I do that maybe that sets up for a March that's not only madness but chaos but then again that's probably not good for the suits and for the executives at CBS upsets are fun but when you've got Loyola Chicago's NBC news and bottlers playing in the Sweet Sixteen elite eight in the final four once people get past the gluttonous first and second round you know I think you need big time programs and big name players to keep people watching I'm not sure the Senshi EE term is going to deliver that so I I'd love to hear my sense from where I sit a company from our CBS sports radio studios in Pittsburgh.

H. C. that's the active ingredient in marijuana now whether it's nicotine or marijuana one of the biggest problems here is that a lot of teams still think Peiping carries no risk it does and nicotine is still the most addictive substance.

"Thanksgiving's will drop that one on Thursday and then on Friday I'm GonNa quiz. Amir Blumenfeld yes from Jake and Amir Fame I. I am going to quiz him on the episode of WHO wants some Trivia. This is a fun theme. We've put together for this one so You know we've done we've done Leelee we've done tasks who sits atop the leaderboard we're eventually going to get to my Mantica but Amir is up next and we'll see whether or not he can beat both of these guys scores so that's on Friday. We got the beach stepping stepping on Thursday on. Today's show Thanksgiving themed top. Ten forest should be fun. We usually do top five guys taking the top ten seconds already Eh. We will play a little. Is this news. I've got tweet of the night honors. But before we get into last night's game guys I wanted to let you know I fell down on the most insane rabbit hole last night because of something we talked about on. Tuesday's show we brought up the whole James Naismith family tree and the like. I couldn't let it go right because we were talking about Jimmy Smith being there at the arena on Monday night and then I add talked about Jeffrey Naismith in the Trivia show. I did what tasks about the ninety five raptors. Anyway I fell down this insane. Insane rabbit hole trying to figure this out and I wanted to just give you guys a quick report. Okay listen listen to this Dr Mollie broke it down. Oh Test Dr James Naismith. The man who invented basketball he had five children. Two of them boys named John Edwin Naismith though he went by Jack and James Sherwin naismith though he went by Jimmy. I'm not making any of this up. Wow so you're telling me to kids who both have James Double Double Janeane exactly amazing. Those two boys ended up having sons of their own. Now I think they had five in total one of Jimmy's was named after his granddad. James P. naismith he he goes by Jim. He lives in Corpus Christi. That was the eighty two year old man. The last surviving grandson of Dr James Amy Smith he was at the raptors game on Monday night. All Right now Jim Jim. He married his middle school sweetheart beverly and they started a family. They yielded four children and fifteen grandkids. I believe one of those grandkids. Kids was Jeffrey. The young teenager probably around thirteen years old at the time who through that ceremonial jump ball at the raptors inaugural game in one thousand nine hundred ninety five. He was introduced I remember. He was introduced during that game from Herbie as Dr Naismith. Great great grandson so there it is. I think that's sort of the family tree but men in that wild. It was a lot of J.. This was insane to figure out because they're all named like basically the same thing and then they all have these secondary names so it and then because just to add to this. There's a there's a yawn spelled I. A. N. he goes by Yawn and that it was the guy that do you remember when someone was selling the basketball rules Dr. Yeah I don't know maybe ten eight years ago something like that. That was him because he was one of the grandsons sons. So He's in theory Jimmy Smith's either brother or I'm sorry yeah either brother or cousin but anyway he He passed away now gyms and control. Yeah so he must have had a jump shot. That's why I didn't have a J. O.. Had you had to get that off. I'll be honest with you. I dipped into the family tree as well wealth as soon as I saw that James Naismith. Og James Naismith. His Dad's name was Jon Naismith. I gave up. I was like this is going to be too much. So have you consider changing changing your name to J. Maybe a jump ball like that idea. Got To put on a tie and glasses all right last night two games. That's it two games guys. I'm the clippers crush. The mavs one fourteen ninety nine in a game. That never really felt that close. Paul George scored seventeen of his twenty six points in the first quarter. Quite finished. With twenty twenty-eight eaten for Luca had is arguably his worst game of the season you turn the ball over seven times. He went over eight from three point. Range finished with twenty two eight and six looks all right in the box score but rough night impressive..

"Right after the show danettes. Game ready got their gear on and that'll be a twelve thirty eastern you can watch the three on three league on the Dan Patrick show app. Is it not suitable for children? They have those warnings. It's not suitable for basketball purist. Let's put it that way. That might be the best way to go about this. We need to have a warning of content James day. Smith. Just died again. Yeah. Did you know that James Naismith born in Canada? Seriously? And we acquired him would we I think somehow Kansas got him. I don't know how Jimmy Naismith ended up coming here to the United States and. Introducing us to basketball. Yes. So basketball is a Canadian game and they have hockey to how. And they had Andrew Wiggins and RJ Barrett didn't they invent maple syrup. I mean, they've got everything up there. They invented maple syrup L. Let's give it to him, though. And niceness. They are very nice. And they've Drake you SETV was a great strengths, not necessarily nice like he, he doesn't fit. He would he would fit in with other cities suicide for copyrighting the game. That's a reference. Oh, he's suing all company. That's right. Nike. Yeah. Because of the claw. He came up with the logo in apparently Nike trademark did in and I love the Colli wears new balance. It just doesn't it feel like that? That would be the issue like, you know, it's, it's very practical. It's, it's nice comfortable and I wear new balance. They have fair prices, you know, made in the US. All right. We'll hear from Roger Goodell the Commissioner the omnipresent Commissioner, except on this show. He will join us well down, just by an interview say, yeah. He's not joining us, but through a soundbite, we'll have the Commissioner talking about, maybe it's time to reduce the preseason. You know something's up, you know the, the, the Commissioner doesn't go, you know, on second thought maybe these preseason games are meaningless, and we shouldn't we shouldn't be putting these players through it. How about we cut down on preseason which we've been saying, forever have controlled scrimmages have two preseason games, don't price gouge everybody? And then maybe you can add another regular season game. And then you add another postseason game. I'm guessing that's the end game here. But in, by the way, you know who wants the eighteen game schedule more than anybody? Anybody? I'm gonna make your way I'm gonna make you. Wait Todd dude made you wait earlier today. Yeah. And maybe my kids will do something I'm really proud of. And I'll send you a little note here during the commercial. I'm glad you clarified the whole, we're gonna play a sound bite from Roger Goodell because minute shows the play the you'll hear from going to be a guest. Oh, I know. I'm in on those Joe here from Tom Brady net. Yes. Yeah, it's a cut from the local reporter iae. Thanks. We'll take a break here. Bill.

"For the first time in NBA history, we had a finals game outside the US last night, the Toronto Raptors beat the Golden State Warriors game one one eighteen to one zero nine you have to cross an international frontier to get to Toronto. The NBA wants to grow its brand everywhere. But for now it's probably happy to see Canadians getting into this marketplaces, and Euler reports Toronto is the fourth largest city in North America. Pretty big market for the NBA, but Kevin pelton who writes about basketball for ESPN says it's not just people in Toronto who were cheering for the rafters, the rest of the country has jumped on board and the raptors have impressed in courage that with their slogan. We the north. In fact, a lot of people south of the border are rooting for Canada's team to it's the underdog. The warriors have won two straight championships. This series might not boost the NBA popularity across the seas. But sports business journal editor John Iran says the league does have a nice marketing opportunity through a famous Rafter fan, Canadian pop. Music star Drake who cheers courtside at all their games. They are able to sort of get into the entertainment. President is get into some of the music press, and it really goes beyond, just really hardcore sporting press, an NBA title would be something of a homecoming, the raptors can pull it off. Dr James Naismith the creator of basketball was born in Almonte Ontario dealer for marketplace. And in New York, I'm David Brancaccio. This is marketplace morning report. From APM American public media. We have another hour of morning edition ahead. I though it's traffic.

You just took the ball to had to put it in the basket, then Volve getting elbowed knocked out whatever running eighties NBA. That's what they say. But yeah. So obviously modern basketball wouldn't fit in there. The three points. And I don't believe there was a dribbling. Just like a rugby thing. But in is the vessel different handball American gladiators. They had this thing where you just run in and try to dunk a ball over someone, and they would tackle your uncle. Yeah. I just find interesting. I think I think I'd rather watch that type of basketball now. Well, your favorite player Steph curry, I don't think he'd do. Well, that's right. I'm sure. I'd I'd fall in love with someone else. No type I wouldn't have gone into. Marcus, Marcus smart. Williamson would be. If he when he comes in the league he's going to be the third heavies player in the league with him. Concerned with him five years. What does he at three twenty two? He's two eighty right? And he's always sick. Sick. You heavy. Yeah. It looks like an offensive lineman instead of that's too heavy up. It is because LeBron at that age was not anywhere near that size. Lebron was probably two thirty added the way more than that. Right. And he still doesn't have quite the skill set. Like, LeBron obviously, I think it's getting a little over. I think he's gonna be good. But I think he's going to be Shawn. Kemp griffin. You may not be the best player on Duke. Right. I think RJ Barrett's games better suited for the NBA. Yup. Better outside shooter. So that'd be interesting. Do we have any of basketball next week? All right. We're gonna take a quick time out. We come back. I the most handsome coach average Jack del Rio guy that would not Sean McVay not say Jack del Rio distinguished older. Guys, you want we could do that this weekend. Yeah. Coaches in the Super Bowl Jack del Rio number. Coach defensive coordinator. I think also if you want to go the other way in terms of maybe the record might not be important about check, even though I do think it is perception is public perception. At least is that he's already the greatest coaches of all time, he certainly passed on Shula in terms of publish. Yeah. I mean Super Bowl era. That's what I always will call him the best coach of the Super Bowl era. I still think he's in the same group with Paul Brown who essentially invented the sport and Vince Lombardi, and you can you took the Beathard and that groups not bad, really, not bad. But around here, of course, people don't want to. Before two thousand and two. I just think it's harder to win now. But that's you know, that's I guess you don't want to take that into taken into consideration. I think it's pretty interesting. How you invent a sport? Or so then then where do you rank Dr James Naismith in terms of basketball teams? He didn't accomplish as much as Paul Brown as a coach took a sport and made it what it is today James needs Vivian vented it. Yeah, that's true with the Peachtree compete will. I will. But. Yeah. Better than Phil Jackson read our back. I guess. Popovich though, who invented baseball Abner Doubleday. Oh, see the greatest manager of all time without question much better than anybody else.
