"Move at all. I think really really hurt. That offense in really just was not a good fit at all. the nick foles is still in chicago. He still going to be getting paid next year as a third string quarterback which is just wild to me but again you you put this nice system around justin field. You've got a lot of bright minds. A lot of playoff experience a lot of some super bowl. Experience with nick foles. And i think you can really develop him into a smart young quarterback But get nick foles. He was statue. Never seemed comfortable and It was hard to run. Really what matt nagy wants to run and his offense with either the two guys with mitch. Trubisky who couldn't do it consists Who had the athleticism him But just couldn't put together the throws downfield consistently. I also think bears fans needed really just put this coaching. His coaching run is recent. Coaching run into perspective because after last season despite making the playoffs it was after the first round exit to the saints fire. Nagy fireplace which i was i will admit i was somewhat onboard with which and i can see the side of the argument but he still has a twenty eight and twenty overall record with two playoff appearances in three years in chicago. Which is you look at. Just the last few coaches were. There is so much better than that so much. Better john fox. The john fox eras posted a fourteen thirty four record with no playoffs. Marc trestman who completely lost the locker room No-one on the team really wanted him and no one wanted to play for him. He'd a thirteen thousand nine record in two seasons. No playoffs and now. We have to play offs in years with matt nagy with no parental just below. Average quarterback play is incapable quarterbacks. And he's still been able to win games and at least motivate the team to some extent. Now a big reason for a lot of this is the defense and a lot of those winds were in two thousand eighteen when vic fangio was was coaching that unit. But there's still such a big difference. And when i've followed the bears intensely for the last. Those last two eras before nagy just completely different there's somewhat of a culture Being built there's there's a level of respect there. He's a younger younger head. Coach relates to these guys a lot. More than i think john fox and marc trestman did and he has relationships with these guys. And i just. I don't wanna give up on nyc yet. I really don't for one. I think he's showing like i said that he can build some type of football coach culture in the locker room although there has been some troubles with overall just knowing assignments on offense. They're having some struggles. There that bears fans could point to but the team is never quit at any point in the season which is something we saw in those last two saw teams quit on the on. The on the rest of the guys are now the coach despite the offensive struggles they could have easily folded last season. When mitch came in but they still won. Three of the last four games sneak into the playoffs. I think that means something even if the teams were bad if it was the vikings and the texans and the jaguars who the jags may have been trying to lose weight loss game but i still think it means something that they saw the opportunity to possibly sneak into the playoffs and the took advantage of it. They really did We saw him making adjustments. I think at when he just for msci was doing a lot more play action and making things simple for him. He showed that ability and he's also really showed the ability to be creative play caller. I look keep looking back to that first season of mitch in chicago his first season and you could see a lot of these plays that just wide. Open guys downfield taylor. Gabriel streaking downfield. After a great play design guys wide open in the back of the endzone. Guys just completely schemed open. And the quarterback can't complete the play can't make the plays can make the touchdown and that just just eat. Say you use a coach. I think there's a lot for users overall morale as a as a playcaller in you know just getting excited to game plan offense each week and you have to imagine nagy last year with falls and trubisky was just out of answered so i think for a lot of for a lot of for a lot of the for a lot of those Weeks in those game plans leading up where we saw horrible formats. I think you just saw off of game plan. That just had no answers for the quarterback play that was just simply not good enough to run the offense and now he wants to run so i do think he still has some of that. Creative andy reid type ability to both call plays and both and also get guys open and put guys in positions to succeed. And we just need a quarterback kim consistently make those throws and it just opens everything up it really. It really will So ninety not really just being able to do what he wanted to do with. Nick foles Like he probably thought he could have and now game planning each week each week with just any dolton and justin fields as the quarterback wanting quarterback too. I think there's a lot more excitement there and Has he has a freshening feeling so i. I'm i'm excited to see matt ninety with a new look quarterback room and overall just a more positive energetic vibe. I i think that that will really be true. We had to really look at this because we're talking about coach that needs to have a quarterback can execute these throws and when he didn't have that for the last three years. And you have that taken from you. And now you possibly have two quarterbacks that can get it done in the ways that they can some maybe more than others. I think there's a lot to be excited about. And i think we can truly see the the true coaching potential of matt. Nagy with these two guys. Now the real question is can andy dalton. Be that guy. I'm not sure i'm really not sure. I think he is going to be able to do some things. That will surprise people. I really do think that. I mean he wasn't terrible. He wasn't drew lock. Nick foles level terrible last season with the cowboys and they were they had offense lot. He got absolutely rocked last last year in one game against the reds the football team where you can cuss missile time and seeing bounce back from that injury Which is a horrible defense that offensive line or you'll be a worse situation to be in the bears but you still had a functioning offense with a lot of really talented scope position players that he would be able to use utilize so he won games. The stretch of the season two. I think that's one another thing that can't be overlooked that he was able to win games with that depleted cowboys roster. He won game since the forty niners. The vikings of philadelphia and offense looked more than functional with the weapons that they had eke. We'd sixty four percent of his passes for touchdowns eight interceptions and. I think there will be some plays that any dalton can consistently make in this offense from hitting the open guys and slinging the ball around downfield also having some ability to move on like nick foles. And that's something that nagy just hasn't had in chicago. It's it's pretty crazy. Just hasn't had that guy that can do a somewhat above average rate which is ludicrous to me. Really is now I really just want to any polling some slack. Here i wanna see how this plays out and go from there if we won comes and he looks just like nick foles than i think. There will be some serious questions as to. Who is the real problem here. Is it any is it. Is it the time to bring in justin fields. Is it nagy's offense just not working in the nfl. So i wanted to cut him some slack. And i wanted to. I want to really see how this training camp and this season plays out. So before i get into the rest of my bears talk..
Bears Coach Matt Nagy Insists Andy Dalton Will Be The Starting QB
"Bears head coach matt. What did he do man. Nagy insisted that. Andy dalton would be the bear starting quarterback for week one his quote. And i'll read it off for you. Andy dalton has our starter. Justin is our number two. And we're going to stick with this plan. You just got us. Trust the plan. Yeah you got to set. The budget magician strikes again. I got a bunch of cards right in the right the fi. You never know where they're gonna go. Man thanks matt wasn't there was something about going around saying it's fun to throw his very him. Say there's just there's no outcome to where where there's no area where yeah scenario. Fields is the starting quarterback. And look. I i get you told andy dalton some things when you coerced him to join your your team but as the head coach of an nfl fan. Did i hit you in. The i know no good you look like you've laze bleeding if you're the head coach of this team and you're not leaving at least a scenario where justice fields as your week one starter. You're being a bad coach. Yes there should be a scenario where you allow a player to beat out another player so the best one play

"We're talking a lot of bears. This episode and i know if you listen to this show. You know that. I'm a bears fan and you might be saying alright. Let's just talk about the bears. But it is literally the only storyline the main storyline. At least that is going around the league right now now. I was talking a lot about matt. Nagy's decision to go with any dolan this as a starter. I like that. It provides a lot of structure to this locker room for the foreseeable future. But again i also think this is a very unpredictable fluid situation that is going to move how the wind blows to be honest and i wanna get into more of that right now so bears fans were very angry and i think this anger comes from a certain distrust in matt. Nagy bears fans for the most part are just not too happy with matt. Nagy think he's a good coach. There have been times where. I don't think he's a good coach But that falls on the offense because he comes in in two thousand eighteen as this offensive guru this this predecessor to andy. Reid and dolphins just doesn't look good and he was carried to the playoffs. I would say that offense was carried to the playoffs by fangio's defensive unit and all the turnovers they had that year and all the success. They had on that side of the ball. They're really front. Seven was just unstoppable. But this past is i think is really were bears fans. I think drew line and really decided. That matt was not going to be the coach. That could bring chicago super bowl now. I don't. I don't think that i think the dirt the jury is still out but there are some valid vowed. Points offense at times really really just looked awful last year how they handled the starting job in benching mitch so quick in giving the keys to fools and even just signing falls in the first place i think was just there. Were a lot of mistakes. There is you. Don't remember mitch. Trubisky was pulled in week. Three against the falcons and the bears ended up winning that game and then falls just provided a lot of bears. Fan do some unenjoyable football to watch. So they have that. Come from behind win. Where nick foles looked pretty good. He was putting the ball. Downfield was making the right reads and was getting into the playmakers. So i thought let's go. We're we're going to be able to ride this. Nick foles trained to the superbowl. Well that just was. It was not the case He was worse than this is not the better option and that he really shouldn't have been benched when you look at the whole season as a whole for the next game against the colts offense puts up eleven points. They put ten points up against the rams on primetime. Seventeen points up against the loss to the titans. That was a twenty four to seventeen loss but it was really just not close at all throughout the game. This thirteen points against the minnesota. Vikings who just were not that great of a defense last year on prime time before going back to trubisky the next game against green bay and it was really just offense. Looked awful talked about the offensive line was in shambles A lot of bear bears fans to start to question whether nagy just wasn't a good offensive. Play caller was a good offensive coach at all that he was just set out to be then. he's advertised. Be by the front office by the people that trusted matt nagy to come and lead his team to new heights. But i do think there are a lot of things He does well as an offensive coach. And he truly has been just limited by quarterbacks because he has not had a real pick at a quarterback he actually likes he actually fits. That has a skill set. That fits his offense. I mean for starters got mitch trubisky. Who after three seasons proved that he is just a below average quarterback in the nfl. Today that's what he is i i. I'm making excuses for him. I think so fans did enough of that. But it's really just the reason that he's backing up josh allen in buffalo right now now you could say that the bears didn't do the best put them in the best situations to succeed and you saw the end of last year sought some things start to click on offense when they were running the ball really well using a lot of play action and really cutting the field half and try new things with mitch that we hadn't seen before because we've also seen in the previous two years that when nineties running offense that he wants to run pushing the ball downfield the mitch trubisky simply just cannot execute it at a high enough rate he has a sixty percent completion percentage for his career. He is only a six point. Seven career yards per attempt which is just the opposite of what maggie wants from his quarterbacks. He needs them pushing. The ball. downfield calling was really designed to keep the ball in the in. Not they're designed to keep mitch for making mistakes in hurting the team even more and they were still able to have some success but against six point. Seven career yards per attempt. A sixty four. To thirty seven touchdown interception ratio. That is just hard to win games with but he still has a twenty nine in twenty one overall record does mitch. Those are all under matt nagy. or a twenty nine twenty one record including the patriot. John john fox years. That were before matt nagy coming in now the way. The bears offensive line played last season. When nick foles come in came in he was immediately just the worst option because he He could move. He was a statue back there and it was very hard to watch some points. There was the whole storyline where he was saying. He doesn't there. Were times apply. Get called into the huddle and he would know beforehand that it was just not gonna work there. Was that whole thing but really it. Was nick foles inability to be an above average quarterback and his inability to have any sort of athleticism or blue..
Nagy benches Justin Field for Andy Dalton
"And another team and their actions. That aren't making a whole lot of sense now. Are the chicago bears and head coach matt nagy because this week matt nagy came out and obviously he's in a win or else win or lose your job type of situation in chicago but nagy came out and essentially committed to andy dalton as a starting quarterback this week which is just bonkers especially when in the nfl draft. You traded a future first round. Pick to go up and take justin fields out of ohio state number eleven overall justin field as your future. Even if matt nagy and gm ryan pace. Aren't there certainly hoping that justin fields shows enough. This year this season not just to save their jobs but to position the bears to go back to the again and maybe win a playoff game and show that there can be some promise with this quarterback in that franchise and i think the justin fields has that ability. I think that when you watch him he can make all the throws. He's won a lot of games at ohio state. He's not your typical state quarterback he committed to penn state transferred to d- committed to penn state rather went to georgia faced a lot of adversity in georgia overcame at ohio state. One big games has all the arm strength. has all the accuracy can throw on. The run is mobile. And you're gonna put him on the bench holding a clipboard behind. Andy dalton

"He also just has a lot of lasting connections in the nfl and a lot of relationships that you build throughout having this primetime broadcaster career you get to meet meet meek guys in make impressions and again like long lasting relationships that he's had easily translated into this podcast form. And he's a great interviewer. I love this interview with matt nagy. But the real reason i'm talking about this is because on the podcast this is where the main storyline just blew up because matt nagy said that. Definitively that andy dolan. Is the bears starting quarterback for week one verse to los angeles rams and that justin fields is the number two now he also was saying that he doesn't really see any scenario any likely scenario where justin field starts week one. He also said he just doesn't really like to get into prediction game. Just because of how rapidly the nfl can change in an nfl. Team can change Injuries or literally anything and But i really do like this. Move after sitting on it and thinking about it for a while now. There is one aspect of this that i really enjoyed because justin fields in any dolan have seemed to handle this as professionally as you can from. Nfl athlete standpoint because justin said this week in a press conference that anyone has taken him under his wing in fields even said he went out to dinner with dalton and his wife because Those those are the things that you really like to see from your veteran quarterbacks hint how to handle this situation they're larger from where you can't handle it. There's lots of ways that guys have handled it in the past and It's good to see that there's no divide of any sorts in this locker room and there's no conflict between those two guys because they both want the same thing and they both want chicago bears to succeed now. It is kind of interesting because justin fields came into recommend camp saying he was trying to compete for the starting job he wants during the starting job But again what do you. What do you expect him to say. Right away during these rookie minicamps. When it's your first day out there. I stay with the team. Of course you're going to say that. But now he's kind of taking this approach of doing what's best for the team and he's really seems content with the bears plan to develop him putting his trust in the coaching staff in chicago putting his stuff in andy air putting his trust in andy dalton to really make him the best quarterback that he can be which i love to see But really more than anything. I think it's just a sign of professionalism and maturity that you don't always see from both sides it could have been very easy for dalton to focus on himself be like all right. This is my team. I don't care that you draft a quarterback. It's my team. I'm getting paid on the starter and just to not be the mentor that he's being adjusted fields. Especially when you see guys like aaron rodgers. who just aren't either not camp and you've seen guys in the past nine handle the situation all too well. But i think the more modern day. Nfl seen growth of veteran quarterbacks handling this transition from young promising star quarterback and kind of the passing of the guard because it could also could have been easy for Justin fields to put his head down and be reluctant to accept that number to role. And which is the opposite of what he is doing in just embracing everything that is coming in chicago. So why was this important. Why did matinee fueled the need that he had to say what he said. On the chris collins worth podcast. Why did he have to name. And it needs to start at right. Now is very strategic. In a way. Because i think this is really just mad nike. He's done nothing. But answer questions on questions about the quarterbacks how he thinks they're doing he seems really excited. When he's talking about these quarterbacks in the press conferences that i've listened to and he really seems kinda have like this twinkle in his eye that we haven't really seen with the mitch trubisky's of the world and the nick foles is of the world that we saw in the last two three seasons. But i think this is really just getting a grasp on the narrative of there. Being a quarterback competition come late july in training camp. And if you i think. He's really trying to control his locker room. He's setting a precedent for the foreseeable future. And i really like what he's doing. When i when i really take a step back and look at it because everyone in the bears organization understand that this is a fluid situation and knows that justin fields could see the field at any point in this season. And i think if you take this approach patent give you kind of up on his show those to earlier this week. He brought up a really interesting point. He was applauding nike for making this decision. To name any starter. Strictly because of just the presence of quarterback competition throughout training camp in what that can do to a locker room and in mack experience. He said there can be a lot of negatives from this. Obviously you want competition in every position. Every coach coach always says that there's no handouts especially in the nfl but to have a definitive number. One guy this is. The leader of our team is the leader of our locker room. I think is very important because look it's human nature that if you have a quarterback competition guys are getting equal reps with the ones It's human nature that guys are going to gravitate towards one player or maybe they'll like andy's leadership style more than just in or maybe they really just a are attracted to the talent side of justin fields and they're seeing that in practice in they're really gravitating towards him..

"In waiting. And so I think man like Matt Nagy calling plays for Justin Fields. Oh, boy, that's exciting. And Andy Dalton. Again can execute and isn't going to be horribly, screw up and do just awful, awful things. He's going to be solid and make decent throws and not going to allow anybody. But again, Andy Dalton's not going to miss wide open receivers and if he has people, why do when he's going to throw them the ball? That's kind of. All you can ask is the guy that can execute me somewhat accurate, that's when Andy Dalton can do so, I am really, really excited to watch. Matt Nagy coach this year, see what it can do. And I think people are about to change their opinion about Matt Nagy and go. Oh yeah, it kind of having a good quarterback does matter just a little bit. Watch what? Matt, Nagy does with better quarterbacks this year. We'll see if he can't coach Andy Dalton or Justin Fields then fine that's fine. We can say like people can be critical of Matt. Nagy dog you know what? You're right, fair enough. But I don't think it's fair to judge. Matt Nagy on Mitchell trubisky and Nick Foles who couldn't even win the job in Jacksonville. That's what I'm trying to say. I cannot wait to see what happens with Matt, Nagy in Chicago Bears with their new starting. Quarterbacks, I guess with their new quarterbacks. One of them will start and then another will eventually start, but they got two new quarterbacks and I cannot wait to see what happens with Matt, Nagy, moving forward with. Okay, let's shift gears. I did not think I would talk about this subject at all, but.

"I hope everyone is having a relaxing summer. The return to normal is here. We're getting full crowds. But we are officially going to be in the dog. Days of summer for the nfl season as nba playoffs are reaching the conference finals stage of their playoffs. There's two game sevens this weekend. That are going to be very exciting. Be sure check it. Check out the see basketball of for more updates on that and the western conference finals are starting up sunday. Tomorrow between the clippers and the sons So some great series. The nba has not been this wide open with all the injuries but still a lot of great basketball yet to be played and there will be a champion. It has just not been this wide open in quite some time. Honestly i want to say since. Lebron left cleveland to go to the heat. I don't think there's been a finals. This wide open since then so pretty crazy stuff going on or last injury kyrie irving in brooklyn and how that has affected the nets as they are in game seven with the bucks which i think the bucks have a good chance I think the nets in sixers were both come out of their respective game seven so feel free to come back to me after this comes out and make fun of my wrong predictions because the sixers of proven to be able to blow any lead imaginable in this series. They've blown to twenty point leads in the fourth quarter against atlanta. But again i don't think atlanta has the firepower through losing their missing their three best wing players in possibly bogdonovich on a hundred and cameras. So again be sure. She got the gmc basketball podcast on that. So what is there to discuss in the nfl world. Because there's a good amount of news going on. But like i said we're we're entering the dog days of the. Nfl news cycle wants the nba. Playoffs are done. We're going to be in the dog days of summer for all sports. There's only going to be regular season baseball on and we have not much going on in the nfl news. Except ota's just finished up. And there are some storylines to look at that. I will be getting into. Ota have officially come to a close for most teams A lot of a lot of teams give give their guys break here until training camp starts year though. Ta period to get a lot of things installed a lot of the initial movements for your team. I'm really excited for training camp when we can get full pads on tuesday practices so the earliest a team is beginning training camp. This year's as soon as july twenty first for the teams participating in the hall of fame game but twenty nine out of the thirty two. Nfl teams we'll be reporting to training camp On july twenty seven so we got a little ways to go a little bit of a dead period from now in late june until late july. So let's hope over favorite players in the league. Do all they can to stay healthy and relaxed during this break before we get into the nfl season. That i think is going to be one of the best ever. I truly think that. And i'll get into that more later as well. So we're gonna have some fun with it we're gonna have to get into some more power. Rankings find new angles to look at a lot of these different storylines that are awaiting in the twenty twenty one. Nfl season but the main storylines. This week are coming out of chicago from chicago. Bears were matt. Nagy has created a lot of buzz so he recently named any dolan the starter for week one officially he named any the starter and my instant reaction. When i heard this news was very disappointed. I was upset. I've said on this podcast. Many times that i've wanted just field start week one. I thought that was going to going to happen. I wanted him to have a fair chance. Because i truly believed and i still do believe now that he gives the bears the best chance to win from the get-go but after really kind of just taking a step back and looking at it. I've really kind of respect. What maggie nagy has been able to do here and what he has done. 'cause i think when you look at all the cards on the table and if you look at his vision and what. He's trying to do in terms of managing an entire football team. I don't hate this move at all. So chris collins worth nba nbc's sunday night producer. Sunday night football. You hear him. Every week on sunday night during the prime time games but he released a podcast this week. Talking to bears head coach. Matt nagy a very great interview talked about his journey to the nfl trading draft just fields and then everything else just going on with chicago bears and his transition to coaching as he's entering his fourth season as the bears head coach but chris collins worth is somewhat of a polarizing figure out say in the nfl world. But this is also just the case of all time. Broadcasters can be rising to an extent because all the fans are watching teams get really upset fans really upset when they think of broadcasters favoring team or the other or they may be slip up in a big moment and don't say the right thing but i love. I've always liked chris collins. I don't. I don't really have a problem with him. I think he offers great analysis. Great commentary him and al michaels are great. Do in the booth and you can tell with this podcast that you really just has a fantastic understanding of the game..
Washington releases Alex Smith following quarterback's Comeback Player of the Year season
"Quickly. I have some news that has just come in from adam. Schefters twitter feed. And it's not a surprise but the washington football team has released alex smith. Who was this year's choice for the nfl's comeback player of the year overwhelmingly. So he has been released. They save almost fifteen million dollars cap space so in an off season. Where does shawn watson might be available. Dak prescott might be available. Russell wilson might be available louis. How interested do you think teams will be alex smith as he becomes available now. I think alex is a tremendous mentor. I think alex would be a tremendous bridge quarterback at this point in time these people are going to really try and connect the dots between him in chicago given his familiarity with matt nagy and that system that they run in chicago like it was in kansas city. I don't think that's a that's the option that they're looking for but look. I have nothing but infinite. Respect for alex smith at any team would be better served having him in their in their quarterback room for sure.

"Uncommon, James. Yeah, yeah, and and like he wants 50%. I don't know how that's gonna go down, but well, you can ask it all depends. Who is worth more? I think she's worth more than him, isn't she? Well, I mean, apparently now, but he made 141 $150 million. His football curve, right? You made quite always got the meat business. That's right. I forgot to meet business. I like I like J. And I actually used to like the show. I would watch the I would watch the show when they were as he was comin to release. Whatever. It was fun. It was It was fun. Yeah. And watching him watch the You know his video. You know who who is attacking his animals and stuff like this chicken? Yeah, Yeah, it is. Nighttime cameras out there was you're really bored down their national. Apparently. Yeah, uh He doesn't. Well, the he was from San He is from Santa Claus. Indiana. Yes, case he is so I mean, you know, maybe you just can't take that out of it wasn't funny when the recent one of the things I loved about watching that show every time they went to a different bar, a restaurant, I put that Had a list. So when I go to Nashville because they weren't all they weren't like on Broadway where, you know everybody's going crazy Monkey Tom's, right? Yeah. Fried bologna sandwich in one of those places. Yes, and they were all different places. They all look pretty cool. So I said, Uh, that will be nice for the next time I get down to Nashville. Um, but I won't go down there with the Hawks are there because of predators won't sell me a ticket. Remember? I wasn't covering the Hawks at the time, but Brian Sutter So I wasn't on that trip, I guess. Okay, So it was tootsies, one of the honky tonk. So he and the coaching staff for and there are a few pops after a game. It was Tyler Ernest Unknown. One of the young high draft picks who was wasn't doing anything came into the same bar. And caught Brian and I In a mood and next, Brian apparently had him up against the wall and tell him what he really thought about his talents. You got to watch. You gotta watch when people actually ask you. Sometimes I've made a mistake once in my life when I had actually had a few with some guy asked me How How, Um I thought he sounded. Yeah, That's not always a good time because I was like really honest and that guy's alter that guy's never talked to me since, and I will not tell anybody who that was. So let's let's go out. Let's go out to Rishard. Rashard what's happening today? Hello. How you doing? Um, I just wanted to say, um I love the radio show. You know, In my younger days, I listen to a lot of the WGC on power 92, Then my, uh, my policies that listen to this and it was so boring, but not as I'm growing clearly understand, Like why you started listening, but I actually went to, uh, Eastern Illinois. And I felt like the barrister moved. Yeah, you stadium. It'd be a lot easier. So you feel Ryan patient is okay. Yeah. Pace knows the way he was down there. Your co would like it. Jericho played down and my girlfriend, the girl, my girlfriend, Linda. She went to school there. I know a lot of people brothers and his sister went on there. Yeah. Write a small town easy to get around a lot simple and it soldier field and then I just want to say one more thing. And unless you go, I just think it's like, no, really, uh, I think it's really bogus that just the field that Andy Dalton was really much promised the job and justice still doesn't have a chance to, like, are in the gardens up. You know, Like I said, teams like the Cardinals, and we're calling Murray and, uh, You know, like the sound, Watson. They actually gave them a chance to get out there. And if you never get that experience, you know, we'll never know what you're fully do. And I just wanted to say that and thank. You know, Rashad appreciate it. Don't be a stranger Call more often. Um, it's interesting because Sylvie had a chance to talk and ask Matt Nagy the question too, about all of that. And you know what? We come back. We come back. We'll play because it was very interesting. I know a lot of people. I don't necessarily have a problem with the way the Bears are going about it. But I also have a little bit of a problem where if you go through all the training camp, and this guy is performing better. He has no chance to win the job. But Sylvia asked that question demand angry the other day, we'll play that we come back 3123323776. We're here for the next 15 minutes. And don't forget white sax baseball this afternoon. "Hey paul big fan. How's it going. I am doing great thank you. that's awesome. Hey i'm sure you can get. I'm about asking this question. But i wanna get your thoughts on their ability to be alabama able to pull it off. You know key. I taught last season going into the year. They had a shot. I didn't realize. And then i started to wonder about it because i didn't think all mrs defense could hold on but i don't think so. No i think. I think alabama will be a maybe a hair below. Where they they were few weeks ago. But you're going to have to convince me that. All mrs defense has improved enough now. Can you do that. I got a good recruiting class. So i'm hoping within the next three years the outset alabama and and matt crawls gotta stop throwing interceptions by. I mean we all. We always have hope in oxford. Well that's that's why almost fans are so great. I mean they Teams no good. It's not going to get in the way keaton. i hope i'm pretty confident lane. Kiffin is going to really make a huge difference in that program but Give him a little more time. I i think durken's a really good defensive coach though Stacey and tennessee is up next. Hey stacy go right ahead bomb again. It's a pleasure and honor to speak to you sir. Thank you hope. You're having a blessed day. We are so far so good. So i'd like to make a quick comment to all nason out there. You gave me some hope earlier in the week when you said that coach apple will run clean program. Do you think that's true. Absolutely i do. And you know the above above all the reasons he was hired. And you're putting a lot of faith in in danny white to know this because he worked with them for three years. It's the fact that he is an honest coach. And you're not concerned about the nwa because when you're about to go on under the under the knife for the aa. The last thing you need is to get a new coach in there in have any transgressions. Hey thank you very much for the call. We appreciate it. "And we welcome you back. Great to have you here for the Second hour we'll head down to the senior bowl get an update on how that's going in. Just a minute with jim. Nagy nor of your phone calls at eight five five two four two seven two eight five and let's check in with mark who is up next. Hey mark go right ahead. Paul george then enjoying your entertainment for the last forty years and and post herald and radio and tv. Thank you very much One connection. I wanted to mention. I haven't heard mentioned of course. I can't listen to the show continuously but one connection between coach sabin and coach bryan with their seven national championships. The sake of course coach bryant had won the rose bowl champion and nineteen thirty five. That's a big connection Which i know you're aware of this coach mile more and With his has three more national championship connections than coke. Brian or coach saving even one because he has ten national tests had passed at ten national championship. Gonna yeah and i think i don't think you can. You can get more enough credit mark for His contribution because without mala more alabama would not have signed nick sabin. He was determined and diligent and he made it happen. Bright well his his determination and diligence that you bet you and his what he learnt coach bryant which let him stay in miami on extra day. I believe. i think you're right. No i'll never forget. The day coach bryan retired slot thought coach. More would get the job. And i walked down to walking through the hallways. That's when reporters were allowed to to roam the premises and. I went in his office. And i he was. He was still numb. I think he could believe coach. Bryant was leaving. And i mean certainly. He was upset about not getting the job Because he knew with ray perkins he'd be looking for a job immediately and he was but it was. It was an amazing conversation. Just he was really struggling. He was still in such a state of shock knowing how the world was about to change for every one. Let's check out. Bill was in florida. Hey bill welcome to the program. Good afternoon let's check out ed. Who is in virginia. Ed go right ahead. I paul i. I want to say thank you for being on. You've made this time where we're in restrictions better for seventy one year old so last time we talked was when my wife and i were down there when you did your last southeast conference i show in alabama. So that's how long thank you. But when i wanna talk about today as i say that tennessee future is based on what george o'leary did. When he was at central florida he had the he had a lot of ups and downs but his best recruiting class was two thousand fifteen the year. He tried to be head coach and a day and ended up eventually resigning but frost. Scott scott. Frost was the beneficiary of that class and they went thirteen though the second season and also the new coach at tennessee he was the beneficiary of the same class when his first season he was twelve and one but he's dropped down to six and four and his recruiting has always been in the sixties. Now you're in a very heavy duty. Talented athletic state and your only in the sixties. No nothing three stars. So my question is that danny white comes in who comes from an ad lated family and he just picks the other guy. Did he just do minimal. And this really look good for tennessee in the future on his recruiting at it's an unknown and it certainly unknown the dany white was cognizant of so. I don't know how to answer that question. I have heard equal arguments on both sides in terms of whether this was a good choice or not and ultimately if tennessee has a consistent coach for four or five years. I think they'll be okay. But you know the fan base is is is very raw right now and you know. They're they've gotten behind. Derek dooley after lane. Kiffin stabbed him in the back. They they got behind butch jones. They got behind. Jeremy pruitt so their immunity is pretty. Light is pretty is pretty low right now in terms of the way things are going to go and if if this thing gets off to a good start they'll get behind him and but two years down. The road were years down the road. The the architect of this explosive offense hasn't found the right quarterback and won't go very far. Because i was wondering if because now the tennessee pam fans of the most wonderful plans we ever experienced when maryland. My alma mater played against tennessee. Back in the Orange bowl they treated us like we were part of the family. It was a wonderful i mean. Even though we won the game they treated us very exceptional. The fans at tennessee or one of the best next to of course my son who graduated from alabama alabama ribot. Listen this is a this. Is you know it depends on how old you are at. If your if your age or mine we remember tennessee. Being a prominent program. But if you're twenty five years old all you've known is disappointment and that's really the issue here. And that's one reason. I thought i thought phillip fulmer had a chance to to to lead this program back at turned out. Fulmer was not the right choice. A lot of us were fooled by that. Okay well listen habit. Having a good day your show is always tremendous that it's always bright side of us up here and you keep up the good work and you take care of yourself and and and be safe here in the next few few weeks. Keaton is in oxford mississippi. It.
How the Tampa Bay Buccaneers upset the New Orleans Saints to advance to the N.F.C. championship game.
"Drew brees tom. Brady eighty five years worth of quarterbacks second quarter at six three saints and then dan fish huge mistake by brief. Yeah first of all the internal pressure and second of all the physical. Play at the line of scrimmage by murphy bunting getting physical with the receiver michael thomas undercutting that outraged by drew brees. That throw was a huge tone. And that. I love the to mike evans big body in the red zone. Stay in between the quarterback and defensive back touchdown tampa bay for cash in ten six tampa ensuing drive seats trying to respond. This is james winstons. First career playoff past and dan take a look at the triggering. Yeah love the beautiful design and then trey smith leaking down the middle field. But this is really about everyone paying attention to alvin kamara. Watch the tailback in. How many blocks defenders run that way. They lead tricon smith on blocked out here. You big cat. Take great play designed by matt. Nagy that sean payton carries over to yesterday saints thirteen. Ten is the advantage there. Bucks get a field goal. So we're tied up at halftime first. Possession of the second breeze to smith again beautiful. Throw we've seen so much by drew. Brees that incites thought. Fade carry into the sideline touchdown new orleans but then later in the third dan. This play changed the entire game. It's incredible winco junior yet. Tampa new orleans wins. The right they get that slant because it's man coverage but just watch that right hand come in on that back side punch to finish that playoff for tampa bay's defense. That ball bounces right to their defender to huge turnover for them saints turnovers and the bucks cashing in. That was the story of the game. Here's brady that's leonard. Four bucks tied up at twenty cook knows. That mistake was critical. Comes another one dan. Although this one clearly seems to be miscommunication yeah really. It's really just trying to get a vertically route to evan chimera out of the backfield but what happens is never liked. Does a remarkable job of playing with vision onto drew brees patient and then no wasted movement snaps drives on that football before kamera ever turns around and drew knows that was a terrible decision. Saints third turnover leads to this brady takes it himself. Tom brady giving the bucks a thirty to twenty lead. Only the rap isn't excited about it and one last chance now. Desperation time for freeze. That is tipped in the air. And that is all she
"Busted Bears YearEnder 2020" with Dave Wannstedt - EP039 - burst 3
"Do you think that the right direction for the bears would be to. Maybe put all their eggs in one basket and trade for the shawn watson or completely changed their mentality at the quarterback position. Well i kept them all. I would keep mitch. Because i when you look at mitch numbers and that's what i'm trying to figure out. What are you valuate. Mitch on if you look at his numbers this year. From the standpoint of touchdowns the interceptions and completion percentage and you know he. He played winning football. I mean you know it's gonna be aaron rodgers absolutely not but if they're gonna get you the playoffs and now you gotta get into the playoffs. Now you run the football you play defense and you got a chance to go to the super bowl. That's my personal opinion. Okay but now. Here's the issue you're going to you know if you're let's say gonna make the trade for veteran quarterback because and this has to play into it. I mean george mccaskey's smart enough to know that the clock is running on that defense. They have in my opinion another year or two. And then it's going to be. Mac is going to be over the hump. You're going to have quinn. You're going to have to obey then. All of a sudden that they're they're they're an old group and their contracts are up and now you re starting from scratch right there. So you know i i i guess what i'm making the point is that you know if they want to get the most of this defense. They need to do it right now. A s a p and so. I think that's probably should've played into this decision. But now if you are. Let's throw out a veteran quarterback. If you're matt ryan and atlanta or matthew stafford detroit Are you gonna say you gonna pick the bears over the patriots because right now. No i mean and right now. The same thing with assistant coaches. I mean whoever this defensive coordinator coming in if they bring somebody in there not to give them a three year contract because it right. Now it's it's throughout the league the handwriting's on the wall. They have to win this year. Everybody's fired that's that's a tough spot. I very very tough. Spot for ryan. Pay matt nagy to be into it because there's a lot of jobs open. We're guys are starting from scratch. And they're not on the last year of their deal so i think you've gotta look at the coaching end of it. And you gotta look a veteran player. That might have two years
Bears plan to keep Nagy, GM Pace for at least 1 more season
"The Bears are keeping coach Mad Maggie and GM Ryan pace for another year. The team confirmed it this morning, Chairman George McCaskey saying Maggie and pace are growing in their roles, though he said neither received a contract extension. They also acknowledge the Bears need more production from the quarterback position, but did not go into specifics.
Bears announce coach Matt Nagy, GM Ryan Pace will return after 'impressive' finish to 2020
"Apparently matt nagy is going to make it to next year. The bears are gonna keep him the head coach. The general manager ryan pays. Who may have been more maligned than nagy. Decline the fifth year option trubisky. But it's still an option to bring him back in some way our jeff dickerson who covers the bears is essentially reporting. Nagy and pace will be back. Our dan orlovsky is voicing his opposition. What has matt nagy done as for his a an organizer as far as a leader as far as a person with foresight within their organization to say yes in that head coaching role. We love them. Now we're going to allocate some of the play calling responsibilities or the offensive viewpoint. Who are we going to give that to. And what has matt nagy done within. That building approve on great in this role. I understand what dan is coming from. But i think in this situation. He has a winning record. Chuck pagano is retiring as a defense coordinator so he's got to his staff and his thought process in his thinking. Maybe there's a guy or two out there that is really good at calling. Plays really good at putting a system in place to make. Whoever the quarterback is going to be in the future for them successful. So i'm okay with them taking a look see. They just went to the playoffs. So you take a look in just poo. poo it. because you've got to restart things all over again when you completely blow everything up so give it a shot in twenty twenty one see where it's at. He's going to be before you make that decision and that move now mr bisky mitch. Trubisky is jockeying for position to come back and be the chicago. Bears starting quarterback again. Now maybe there's a small deal there because they didn't pick up the fifth year option. There's a small little deal. Maybe there's a two year deal. That is a proven deal that he can now show with a new office coordinator his abilities that he showed in north carolina and made them take him as a number two pick overall.
Chicago Bears' Pagano to retire; Nagy likely to stay
"For one, the Bears defensive coordinator is retiring. But the bigger news from now multiple sources of bread Biggs the trip had it first. The rumor flying around the NFL right now is that the Bears will retain general Manager Ryan Pace and head coach Mad Maggie into 2021. That's what folks working in the league have heard. We'll see if the team is something this evening, but that is the chatter that is out there right now. I don't think any of that is surprising, Hamp, but it doesn't exactly feel great to hear all at the same time. No, it
Chicago Bears Latest News: January
"Hope to become just the second team in 30 years to reach the postseason After enduring a six game losing streak. Head coach Matt Nagy says his team is eager to prove that they can do it your competitors, and they know that they can play a lot better, and so they're motivated. I don't think it's all for them. And it's more about just going out and doing things and playing fast, you know. So you see, see guys like You see guys like Khalil like like I came like road Kwan, you know on Danny, and there's a bunch of those guys that their pride and they care about how they play this game, not only for themselves, but for their team. Kickoff is at 3 25 tomorrow from the lakefront
Can We Finally Trust Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns?
"Kansas city with six consecutive playoff berth. Clinching the spot with what was narrow win over denver mahomes yet another three hundred yard passing game with no turnovers elsewhere. Kirk cousins kept the vikings in the playoff hunt. Three touchdowns helped erase a double digit deficit before dan. Bailey kicked a game. Winning field goal in overtime. Vikings back to five hundred and then is mitchell trubisky and the bears ten point lead late in the fourth quarter fumble leading to a pair of lines touchdowns and the bears lose again their sixth straight defeat after starting the season five and one and that was the conversation. That was focused on quarterbacks rex. Where your mind goes because the bears and that defense had a ten point lead in the fourth quarter. What yeah no. If you're the real deal then that game's over regardless of stupid play by the quarterback trubisky and and the play call the questionable. Play call at that situation. If you're that team the grind clark and i have been on those teams games overdue. It's flat out over if we're gonna show you how good we are. How great we are i instead that team right. There gave up four hundred fifty yards to the detroit lions. Yeah you really that good forget about you wanted your own i did. You never liked the eighty five bears. Well guess what you can't hold their jockstrap. And i'm sick and tired saying that you're good defense. Most talented deep dang danger. Don't play that. Yeah i see look. This is a team that a few weeks ago. I remember we were talking about the defense looking side. I'd the court the offense because they're struggling so much and again. They're in position to win the game. I'm getting so sick and tired of you. Guys talking out of both sides of your mouth. What do we always say. We wanna team to be together. We want total chemistry. We want complimentary cal not a bears fan not embarrassed land complimentary football. It sucked to what we want. Is it this. Why matt nagy was was brought to chicago so to offense defense would be on the same level you have it and get it and you wanna be right. This is not what it used to be. It's not what it even. Starting the season as being is not what we saw on thursday night against the tampa bay buccaneers and the question was asked early on in the season. It does this eventually wear on. The chicago bears defense. That's an excuse because of the field. It's those eleven players that are coach to play defense at at our coach to stop people. And if you to you had a perfect chance to get your team
Chicago Bears QB Nick Foles being evaluated for leg, hip injury
"Able to hopscotch their way to a victory 19 to 13 against the Chicago Bears. Chicago quarterback Nick Foles was carted off the field with 30 seconds left after suffering apparent injuries. To his leg slash hip. Adam Feeling caught two touchdowns four Minnesota After the game, Bear said coach Matt Nagy tried to provide some or information on fools is situation. Hope he's okay. But you know he was in a lot of pain. He's a tough dude, and he was in a lot of pain. And when you see that you're down there with him, you feel for him just because you know, or you don't know how good or bad it is. So that part's hard And finally you'd expect, Or
Chicago Bears: Matt Nagy handing over play-calling duties
"And let's see if the bears moving offensive coordinator duties will be money on the field tonight. Normally it's mad nagy their head coach. He's been offensively inclined. That's why the bears hired him away from kansas city where he was working under andy reid but with the bear struggling. They're handing over play calling duties to bill laser. He's been in the nfl for a while. We'll get into his bio in just a second to see what you can expect on monday night football when the bears. The bears take on the vikings. Here's matt nagy essentially saying. I didn't really want to do this. But i've been around long enough to know i kind of had to do this. I've been around. Obviously one of the greatest head coaches in the history of this game and coach reid and of the best play callers in the history of this game co treat reid and for me in that time where he was able to show the trust in me at that point to give it to me to to run the offense and call the plays there was a little bit of a change and sometimes when you're in this position that we're in right now you wanna make sure that you're looking for solutions and you know you can always talk about execution. You can always talk about teaching. You can always talk about all facets of the game but this year with me going through that and seeing what can come from it. I just think it's it's the right thing to do. And we'll see where it goes. Laser been a longtime. Nfl assistant key the eagles the bengals. The dolphins is actually the oc for the dolphins for a couple years falcons washington football team seattle in more subordinate position. So he's been around the block. Tell me what this means i. It just means dead the pressures on in whenever you see a coach head coach playcaller give up play calling duties this late in the season. That tells you the pressures on in conversations have been had that they've got to figure out another way to generate points because clearly the will matt nagy calling. The plays was not working and if he continued to call the plays and continue to go the way that has been going. There's a large chance of the possibility that he may not be retained after the season. So he's trying to fix it before they get to that point which is smart on his part. I mean look when you go to. This is when you go to this. This is the last stop right. this is right. This is the last stop. We gotta turn it around because if we don't chances are i'm going to have for sale sign point in january in front of my house on the the reality of what they have to make the playoffs in your expectation for matt. Nagy not to lose his job i would. I would think so. But i'm but i'm not the owner of the team but i would say that for the general manager matt nagy to be back with me and twenty twenty one. They've got to get to the playoffs especially we started off with a quarterback that we drafted several years ago. It was the second pick in the first round. We went away from him. We listened to you by going out and getting nick foles and now we missed the playoffs. I can't bring you back.

"Chicago Bears Winning Ugly" with Olin Kreutz - Episode 033 - burst 01
"I watch Nick Foles press conference. And he you know, he got he got emotional over being questioned them about them not being very good. And I think coach Nagy was irritated to kind of like, you know Peggy my my answer was a welcome to Chicago and you play off with a really good defense, right? So, they'll get used to it, you know, as long as you win games nothing else really does matter. I mean, obviously when you look at them from an analyst standpoint, you're wondering when they get into that wage work or if an office desk or twenty one point early or three touchdowns. Can we score 28 to 30 points which they have? I think they get the bulk. Is it put up 30 points or the phone number? To go to Indiana fell but like you said pay you and you watch that defense, they're extremely good and they got one thing that a lot of good teams and teams that have good success with the formula of the defense wins games. They create chaos with a quarterback and they speed up the offense is clogged which creates turnovers. So that defense to me on film look up to dominate not only been six weeks, but that's secondary to find the involved the defense side how good they've been playing is that secondary is playing really well also, so so, you know and thought we'd love to say there's no pictures on the scorecard. I don't care how you got that birdie. A birdie is a birdie a win is a win but we would have loved for it to be beautiful and to be you know them be a great well oiled machine, but how long can they sustain this throughout the rest of the NFL season? We're about to file really quickly here. Right? We got the Rams. We
Bill Barnwell on NFL Undefeated Teams + Monday Preview
"Bill Barnwell. It is late Sunday night almost midnight, which means it's time for you to make me smarter about the NFL. I'm going to try my best Baba Bill. Barnwell is a senior writer for ESPN host of the Bill Barnwell show and he's procrastinating his deadline to talk to me. So we just watched the saints and the packers on Sunday night football and the saints lost without. Their Star Receiver Michael Thomas. But that did not stop us from getting a whole bunch of touchdowns drew brees and Aaron Rodgers. Each threw for three a piece. But in the end, the packers won the saints lost and they've now lost New Orleans says back to back games for the first time since two thousand, seventeen bill I know you are writing a new piece about drew brees coming off of the two year deal that drew brees signed in the offseason and what we've now seen from him through these first three weeks what did you see in Sunday night's games he regressing improving? What do we have with bruise right now? Okay. So public drew brees definitely improving this is a better performance from him. Me brees was downright bad on Monday night in week two against the raiders before we got to garbage time and breeze didn't do deep very frequently until this game was out of hand but I think the concerns i. have read or have heard about arm strength or how deep is passes typically go they don't really get how reason this offense actually worked. Breezes sort of like. A singles hitter in baseball like Tony Gwynn lagging time where a post player with no range in basketball he's not going to suddenly start throwing deeply. He's Patrick Mahomes at forty one years old breeze has succeeded. Over the last three years while throwing the shortest paths in the League because he's posted the three best single season completion. In NFL history. Now. The good news for the Saints Good News For Saints Fans is that brees was much more accurate on Sunday night it was twenty, nine, thirty, six for two, hundred, eighty, eight yards a lot of that West Alvin Kamara who did a lot of the work but still going to end up thirty six is still better than where brees was. The bad news was just about everything else. The Saints Lost Starters Jared Cook and Andres P to injuries while devante. Adams List Aaron Rodgers threw for two hundred, eighty, three yards and those three touchdowns you mentioned. The saints focused on adding veterans with nicknames Emmanuel Sanders and balcony. Jenkins this off season. But. Sanders hasn't been able to stand out with ankle Thomas Injured and Jenkins has been picked apart in pass coverage including Mercedes Lewis touchdown on Sunday night the attorney for more accurate breeze that was a bright spot. But if the saints continue to struggle with injuries and get disappointing play from their stars, the Orleans is going to need this version of free stick around to have a chance to compete in the NFC. So the packers emerged three no, and that's where a lot of focus the rest of our conversation here on the teams that are now undefeated through three weeks of the NFL season. So bill, let's push deeper into the NFC here because the Chicago Bears Be Chicago bears are somehow three you know and they do it by beating the Falcons thirty to twenty six Chicago was trailing by sixteen head coach. Matt Nagy Decides to pull quarterback Mitch Trubisky in favor of the veteran nick foles mister big bleep nick himself who goes on to throw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. So I have a two part question for you now. Why are the Falcons physically incapable of holding onto a fourth quarter lead and? Secondly, where does this leave the whole quarterback situation in Chicago? Let me answer the second part of that question I. The bears are going to flail by the seat of their pants for the rest of the season I would assume that nick foles is going to start until he struggles and the bears trailing by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter a couple weeks from now, I would point Mitch Trubisky will come in and lead them to victory and the cycle will start the new. Unfortunately I don't have one simple takeaway for our poor friends and Atlantic. Is Different From what we saw in week to as. Much. As the defense was disappointing in this game, the offense really deserves a fair chunk of the blame for what happened scored a touchdown on the opening drive third quarter, and then basically tried to sit on their lead, Matt Ryan and company REPA- total three first downs on their next six is before the bears took the lead back and the only scored one field goal over that time after bisky intercession back running back Brian L. dropped an easy third down conversion which would have put the Falcons and field goal range. Then on the next drive kicker, young coup miss a forty eight yard field goal attempt. I know. I mean let's be fair. The Falcons defense was very bad. I'm not sure the Falcons are gonNA make any drastic changes on Monday morning, but Arthur blank can feel great about seeing this happen. On his seventy eighth birthday and. I believe I'm not mistaken not the only person celebrating birthday on Sunday. Having Birthday Pamela. Day Pablo. Yeah this is a hard way to discover that you share a birthday with the owner of the Atlanta Falcons Bill, which feels like you just cast a pox upon my house.
"nagy" Discussed on The Rich Eisen Show
"Community because where you shop matters visa everywhere you WanNa be a did call baseball I adore baseball baseball is my first love NFL is my My Love is well my professional love and my I can't get enough of it but I do I the reason why I set up this conversation or at least this this moment. With this. Is. That I want everyone understand. I'm not slagging baseball when I say anybody from Chicago even with the last dance even with the Bulls doing what they did. It's bears town it's a football town the fact that this if you need any if you need any sort of. Evidence. It's the fact that the cubs. Yesterday against the Milwaukee Brewers Alec. Mills. Threw a no hitter for the Chicago cubs and the talk is of the bears comeback win of week one in Detroit. That's a fact I know I don't have boots down there on the ground in Chicago. But these are facts. Cubs fans are nuts. I get it. But. The Chicago bears and Mitchell trubisky put up twenty one unanswered on the lines yesterday and their head coach. Matt Nagy kind enough to join us here in the richeisenshow how Awesome how are you doing? Well. How are you? How are you feeling top of the fourth quarter yesterday? Oh man no. That wasn't wasn't too good. It's. It's so crazy You know when you when you dig it, dig a hole like that you're down seventeen and you understand it just takes one play to get going and there was a play in the game where we had a little August special vertical play mich mit a throw to Dancy Miller, and it just kind of propelled us and got us going on offense, which is what the defense was wanting from us and and we get it and just kind of back and forth started feeding off of each other in in that one quarter, and before you know we look up and there's a minute to. Go we're up by four. So those are the Games always remember We know we got to get a lot better in this first three-quarters. But in the end, we got that W which was a lot of fun in club afterwards, golf clubs up afterwards I know, and that Miller is the one who ended it as well with that touchdown grab with a buck fifty seven to go Matt Nagy here on the rich Eisen show and I know when you were last show you know a couple of weeks after nick foles was acquired use said that the one thing that trubisky needed to work on. Is Not to get too hyped when things are going well but to make sure you turn the page when something negative happens and I thought when we hung out well. Hiring somebody else to potentially push him might be a problem for a guy that focuses a little bit too much dwells a little bit too much yesterday. Does that dispel? Any notion that he still has an issue with this does he is that was was yesterday that large of a step forward? Can we take that from week one coach? Well, I would say this I think it's a big step for sure you know we the mental toughness side it's not easy when you know we were moving the ball in in the run game and we have some good play actions and we're making strong throws guys were getting open our struggle yesterday rich was was third seven plus I mean we kept getting in that scenario where there's about a twenty percent chance of convert knows. No matter who you are and so we weren't you know so that that part was a struggle for us and But we fought through it and like I said, it took one play, and then once we got into that fourth quarter, our guys just started rolling and and Mitt you know Owen was protecting the wide receivers were getting open Mitch was making very accurate throws and it felt like what is supposed to feel like and then again, there was a crucial fourth and one that we had to get that. Cordell Patterson got on a pitch play and a guy to the corner for the first, and then you know there was a good touchdown throw to to Jimmy Graham another one then to to Anthony Miller that they are excuse me to Tavon wins they played good defense on and we just have better offense from the throw and the and the cash, and then the final one was a great. Throwing catch by by Mitch and Anthony So it just all came together and I think it's a learning tool for all of us to understand that number one we can't do that quarters one through three but nobody to. The positive is that we stuck together and now we're down seventeen in the fourth. We just proved in on. We can still come back and win and. Of course you know the the issue is, how do you make sure? I mean how does one bottle what happened in the fourth quarter and UNCORK IT FROM Weeks quarters one through three from weeks. Two through seventeen. How do you do that as a coach? What what can do? Well. So if you think I think that for US coaches now we finally have film and finally have tape of twenty twenty for us. What it looks like in a live game you know we didn't have any preseason in practice here in training camp everything is is mostly thuds and you're not bringing guys live to the ground so we can. Finally. Valuing Critique these guys and now we start building and identity of who you are as a team The thing I was proud of of our team in general was that we we were able to overcome a few penalties Defensively we had a few penalties, but they overpaid him came home and get made some big stops third down offensively. we have one kindly in on the day, and that was a delay game one time..
Mitch Trubisky Expected To Start As Chicago Bears Quarterback Over Nick Foles
"Let's start off talking about your pal and my pal super bowl fifty, two hero nick foles and when. The Chicago bears traded for Nick foles over the off season for a fourth round pick we all largely assumed it would be to replace Mitchell trubisky as the team starting quarterback. Otherwise, why do you go out and trade for Nick Foles? Mitch Trubisky is a pretty bad quarterback in the Chicago offense. Last year was pretty dreadful with Mitch Trubisky as signal caller and the two were. They were involved in some kind of quarterback competition this summer in training camp everyone I think myself especially just figured Nick foles would win that job. Well, NFL DOT com reporting that trubisky has beaten out nick foles for the starting quarterback job in Chicago. Remember all that talk about whether the eagles should keep foles or go with Carson wentz. Now, he can't even beat out Mitchell and I love Nick foles this is not me bagging on Nick foles but I'm finding it hard to believe that Nick foles doesn't look better in Camp Than Mitch Trubisky you Mitchell Trubisky is literal. Well, listen to the numbers. Okay. The bears offense averaged seventeen and. A half points per game last year and ranked in the bottom five points per game and in total yards. Okay. Trubisky through for thirty one, hundred, thirty, eight yards, seventeen touchdowns, and ten interceptions. He's a terrible quarterback he looked like he might be improving in two thousand eighteen he played pretty well in the bears playoff loss to the eagles especially at the end of the game when he made some big plays, but he regrets terribly in two thousand nineteen. That's Chicago offense was awful and Trubisky was one of the big reasons why only seventeen touchdowns on the season? There's a reason there's a reason the Chicago bears went out and got nick foles. And Nick foles has a higher ceiling the Mitchell trubisky. You can't tell me what after what we saw Nick Foles do in that playoff run in two thousand seventeen that he doesn't give you a better chance to win. Unless Nick foles arm is falling off for or age has really set in in a big way with Foale's we don't know because we haven't been able to watch any preseason games. So we have no idea what's going on in matinees training camps and what's happening behind the scenes, but it's mind boggling to me that they're going to go with the guy who in Mitchell trubisky you know what he is by this point and you know what Nick foles can do. Both of these guys have a low floor. There's there's no question we've seen nick foles when he's not on play terrible football he's not a good quarterback when he's in one of his slumps but when he's hot. There are few that can match nick foles can do when Mitchell trubisky is hot. It's only slightly better than not. So Great Mitchell trubisky what and we just to think about what Nick Foles did in those two playoff games in the NFC championship game, and then in the Super Bowl to do what he did on that stage and the love that his teammates have for him I just it's a it's a very curious decision by Matt. Nagy and the Chicago bears to go with Mitchell trubisky over nick foles but that's the decision they've made I think. Long Story, Short Nick Foles my prediction will start more games than Mitchell trubisky this year when all is said and done nick foles is probably you're starting quarterback not long after the season begins and my guess is if he stays healthy nick foles starts more games than trubisky this year. Because I know the bears aren't really that smart and I know they they sunk a lot into trubisky drafting him when they did. But at some point, you just got to cut the cord move on I i. We don't know what's been going on in training camp at. Nick foles must've looked really bad in training camp for them to go with trubisky over him.
Trump, coaches push for college football as cracks emerge

75 years after Hiroshima, they're still feeling its impact.
"This bomb has this frank for twenty thousand tons of TNT. Harnessing, the basic power of the universe. What I fifteen I am on August six, nine, hundred, forty, five, the US Air Force dropped the little boy uranium fission bomb on central hero. Shema. Making it the first city ever to be destroyed by a nuclear bomb. On August nine Nagy became the second when the bomb exploded around thirty percent of Hiroshima's population that were killed instantly many more died in the months and years to come. Now, the bombs brought to an end to world war two but the wool was horrified at the human cost. Russia has since become a byword for nuclear holocaust forever linked to the words never again. Now, this week marks the seventy fifth anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki joining me to reflect on the legacy of those events. Tashi. Tauch. She is assistant professor at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and the author of political fallout, nuclear weapons testing, and the making of Global Environmental Crosses. Welcome. Tasha. Thanks for having me and Michael Gordon Professor of history at Princeton University and Co. it is a of a new book called the age of Russia. Welcome. Welcome. It's very good to be here. Now, Michael the fear of the nuclear age is the period after World War Two when the US dropped the bomb. The fee was that the nuclear weapons would become a common part of conventional warfare but in the seventy five years since he Russia and Nagasaki, there's not been a single bomb dropped in a conflict. Question is this because deterrence works or have we just been lucky I would say we've mostly been lucky It's quite rare that there are conflicts between nuclear-armed nations. The major example is the nineteen sixty, nine border conflict between the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union. So there haven't been many occasions for things to escalate, and there's a strong incentive in those cases to de-escalate. There have however been very close near accidents whether missile just that needing on its own or people launching almost launching in fear of an attack and there. Have Been Plenty of conventional wars that could have escalated that way. So by and large, we've been lucky but we've been abetted by the fact that there has been an ambient taboo that has grown over the years against nuclear first use although that is rarely the policy of any nuclear power. Okay. Now from an Australian perspective, Tic- Japan was seen as an aggressor in the war, the war crimes but also as a victim because of the destruction wrought by the nuclear bombs have is the wool remit in Japan now aggressor and victim. Tarshi. Many pass through consider themselves as victims thinking that Japanese were misled by the government inter- Disastrous Wall Conquest. In this view here stands at the as the ultimate symbol of Japanese victim. But today is victim narrative faces two competing accounts. One is to recognize Japan's acts of wartime aggression, including tweeting massacres, forced labor, and sexual violence. If we see hero Shimmer from this perspective, it takes on a whole different meaning not. Not as a national tragedy, but rather as international event. killed not only the Japanese residents but also many colonial subjects and allied. POW's who are present in the city at the time of the Tom Bombing. The other interpretation that has also gained for Japan is to see the wartime conduct Japan as an act of self defense. This This lesion is narrative recaps here. As the ultimate proof of Western aggression. So fitting the predation of Japan's Joel Roles as. Aggressor and victim during the war will gain the upper hand in the future will depend on how sweet society around the world comes together and develops a shared understanding of the complex legacies or Corna reason on the war in the Asia Pacific region and back to the United States markle. There's a popular conception that Washington had to drop the bomb that it was the only way. To win the war, of course, the war in Europe come to an end in May of forty five. This is early August two, forty five is that true I mean what? What President Truman's options? So. This is a great question and it's one with a lot of confusion around it. Functionally. The only way the only government that had any power to end the war was the Japanese government which was in a position to surrender and the question was when would that happen would have happened later or earlier by summer nineteen, forty, five, it was already clear that the war was militarily lost. President Truman and the US government in general had basically fixed options of what they could do to try and encourage the Japanese government to take that move. There's only two that people usually talk about dropping the atomic bomb or invading the home islands of Japan. Both of those were on the table also having the Soviet Union inducing them to enter the wars of belligerent which happened on August eighth increasing the intensity of firebombing tightening the blockade of foodstuffs into the home islands. and modifying the terms of unconditional surrender to allow Japan to keep the emperor. The interesting thing is all six of those happen Truman pursued all sex and the war ended. It's unclear which ones were determinative. But the point is there wasn't like we had one option or nothing else. The US had plenty of options and exercised actually all of them. On the one level target for the bombs was obviously Japan on another level. Real target was the Soviet Union. How did the Kremlin of you? He Russia Mirror Negga? Second Markle. So. Really, the question here is a small set of people within the Kremlin stolen and his closest advisers and you that there was an atomic bomb project going on in the United States for years they've found that out from spies from Britain from spies in the United States, and they had their own uranium enrichment and bomb development program that was going on at I would say a medium scale What happens after the destruction of Hiroshima is I in absented himself for a few days he went into a depression and didn't. React to any of his advisors and then immediately massively escalated the Soviet development of their own atomic bomb. So they were both caught by surprise and not caught by surprise. It's true that the Americans didn't always think about the Soviet Union as a factor in any decision related to how the war was going to end but they also very strongly, we understood that the key issue was trying to get this the Japanese government to surrender faster because the faster they surrendered the less impact. The Soviet entry in the war would have to how the end game would play out in Asia, my guest, Michael Gordon, and Tashi Hitachi, and we're reflecting on the seventy fifth anniversary of Hiroshima. Tashi. One, hundred fifty thousand atomic bomb survivors still living in Japan. In fact, as a guest of Japan's Ministry of Foreign. Affairs this would have been in September twenty, sixteen I met one of one of the survivors now they're all in education and public law has plied an important part in shaping Japan's post-war Pacifism. Now, as generation dies out, is the role of pessimism in Japanese politics is that diminishing especially in the face of Rausing China Toshi? I don't think the passing of the atomic bomb survivors will diminish the strengths of pacifism in any short-term. The correctly memory of human magazine Japan has been fairly robust and the taken deep roots in popular culture. I can think of a good example that is Japanese animated wartime drama film released just four years ago in two thousand, sixteen cold in this corner of the world. This picture accounts of the wartime life in here she was a smash hit in the box office. Be, atomic bomb survivors will also active in passing down lessons from the world's first nuclear war to the next generation. The city's over here streaming nagy training. Many Japanese Ron Tears as storytellers who share the testimonies are waging victims and a second generation survivors are spearheading efforts for peace unjustice. Well, that brings me to today and really in the last that he is the end of the call was thirty years ago the US. And the Soviets on Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty non stop this was President Bush senior and Gorbachev in Russia in the inside at Union. Then just as it was collapsing now, both agree to significantly reduce their nuclear stockpiles and of course, the updated treaty between Moscow and Washington that expose I. Think it's February Knicks Jeez. So that's just a few days after the next president is warning Michael Do you think it will be resigned. I think that's entirely dependent on the results of the election. Joe. Biden has indicated that he would refine the treaty The trump administration has had many opportunities to re-sign the treaty, but they have not taken advantage of those opportunities yet. Russia's indicated that they're very interested in extending

"Here's part one well as promised extremely excited about today's guests a guy that I guess I kind of knew since my rookie year and two thousand one I think he might be the only person I was ever a member of Turgen ization with in the scouting part of it. At least it's kind of funny, we never really talked about it, and really ever only had a couple of conversations, but he is now the executive director of the senior bowl does a terrific job there. I mean, the senior bowl has just taken off and he didn't outstanding job this past year and was a scout for almost twenty years before that he is Jim Nagy, Jim, what's up man? Iran. Sorry about, hey, I gotta start with this because I go over this all over this all the time with matinee being from where I'm from in Pennsylvania. Nagy nagy. What are we going with? I go Nagy because it's easier you know, I'm not one of the I could go the other man. Really? Honestly, it whatever whatever's give you I'm fine. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna split hairs over it. I'm good. It's funny, because that's been like a major issue in Chicago, where half. The people say, Nagy half the people say Nagee, and I guess Matt told people it's actually like, hey, like Nagy. So it's actually even if it's even harder. It's in between. Well, if you go back to the motherland in Hungary, it's pronounced nudge. So, yeah, it's kind of obscure name here in the United States, but it's actually Smith. If you go over to Hungary, it's the most common surname over there. So. Yeah, we'll, we'll go, what whatever works raw down. All right. So I wanna start Jim we're gonna make this a two parter because I wanna to do a whole episode just on the senior bowl and what an event and business. That's become. But I, I wanted to kind of give people your background..

"Or that we live in the matrix or whatever take your pick. You know, there's only this thirty two head coaching jobs in the NFL, and several of them are kind of entrenched for some time. And yet you'd look no further than Larry wisdom's young protege that Nagy take new for the team that this guy. Larry wisdom grew up living. Yes. That's that's that's a crazy twist of all right is Larry grew up in suburban Chicago. Matt did not know this until he got the bears job had no idea that Larry was a lifelong die hard. There's fan who you know. Love the eighty five bears couldn't stand. Mark Trestman central. Seriously. And all of a sudden, you know, this man, who he you know, becomes friends with kind of helps send on this journey. It all comes full circle, and he becomes the head coach of his favorite team, which is super super cool. And you know, he he told me about, you know, coming here last may, and you know, they went to dinner, and you don't want to house hall, Matt showed him all around. And, you know, saw the, you know, everything, you know, the pictures of pay and everything that that, you know, building. And just you know, it was amazing. And and he and he said to me he goes, look he goes, of course, it's super cool to have a friend of mine who's the head coach of the bears now. Right. That's awesome. But more importantly, he's I'm excited that that Matt Nagy as the coach the bears, and I know this guy, and I know what he's about leaders skills. That's the guy. I want coaching my team, you know, even if we were never friends, and I didn't know him. He's the right guy to help my team get to where I wanted to go, which is super cool. So the last question last you is as a as a bears fan speaking of of bears nation. We've let the dust. Settle the now that you can have a nice healthy chuckle because the eagles lost. Do you agree with what wisdom said as you close the piece, which is quote, I can't wait to see what happens. Absolutely for sure percent. I do you know, I think through the course of the last couple of days with you know, Vic Fangio taking the job in Denver. There was some uncertainty as bear Spanish who would still that spot. I will tell you. I think Chuck Pagano is is a perfect fit. And I think him and Matt have similar leadership styles. And that that couldn't be any better in the defense will be in really really good hands. It'll be it'll be interesting to see what Matt does now with another year where he was Mitch Trubisky. If you think about it, you know, not to not to put these kinds of expectations on Pat or on Mitch, but that had a full year of working with was Mahomes before before Mahomes had this incredible year. He had and this is his first year working with Mitch. So I think there's some expectation that he will be even better next year. And if that's the case. Still in good shape. The one thing obviously is you know, they were they were pretty lucky this year in terms of injuries. Nothing. You know, Eddie Jackson missed I honestly the season. But you never know what's gonna happen in that regard. And you know, if your quarterback blows out his knee or something Sokoto back or whatever everything go up in smoke. But at least it looks on paper. They look really good team. And he looks like the right guy to lead that group through what will be a much more challenging schedule next year for sure Mitch Trubisky, and Matt Nagy in my opinion for a little bit more hope than for example, lovey Smith and Rex Grossman. Bye. No, no question. No question. So I think I think part of it too. I think you know, Matt. If they're smoking to say to be critical of him. I think he was a little bit too conservative with his offense at the end of the year. Not wanting not wanting Mitch to make mistakes and put them in a spot that would sort of threaten that really good defense. And I think Mitch has the ability talents who we saw that last. Dr do a lot more than I think he was allowed to do 'specially late in the year. So I think another offseason them working together and understand each other. I think you know, metal take those handcuffs off and you'll see a team. That's hopefully, you know, just as explosive on offense as they are as dominate defense. Well, I know you'll be watching I know Larry wisdom ably watching so the thanks again, Wayne or but thank you so much again for giving us time. We really appreciate it. All right.
