"Exodus chapter one. These are the names of the sons of Israel, who came to Egypt with Jacob, each with his household. Rubin, Simeon, Levi, and Judah. Is a car, zebulon, and Benjamin, Dan and naftali, gad and Asher. All the offspring of Jacob were 70 persons, Joseph was already in Egypt. Then Joseph died, in all his brothers, and all that generation. But the descendants of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly, they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong so that the land was filled with them. Now there arose a new king over Egypt who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, behold the sons of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. Come let us deal shrewdly with them lest they multiply, and if war befall us, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land. Therefore, they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens, and they built for pharaoh store cities. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied, and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the sons of Israel, so they made the sons of Israel serve with rigor and made their lives bitter with hard service in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. In all their work, they made them serve with rigor. Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named shipra, and the other pua. New serve as midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the birth duel, if it is a son, you shall kill him. But if it is a daughter she shall live. But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live. So the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, why have you done this and let the male children live? The midwives said to pharaoh, because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous in our delivered before the midwife comes to them. So God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very strong. And because the wind midwives feared God, he gave them families. Then pharaoh commanded all his people. Every son that is born to the hebrews, you shall cast into the Nile. But you shall let every daughter live. Now, a man from the house of Levi went and took to a wife a daughter of Levi. The woman conceived and bore a son, and when she saw that he was a goodly child, she hit him three months, and when she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket, made of bulrushes, and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. And she put the child in it and placed it among the reeds at the river's bank. And his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him. Now, the daughter of pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, and her maidens walked beside the river, and she saw the basket among the reeds. And sent her maid to fetch it. When she opened it, she saw the child and behold the baby was crying. She took pity on him and said, this is one of the hebrews children. Then his sister, said to pharaoh's daughter, shall I go and call you a nurse from the Hebrew women who can the child for you? And Faro's daughter, said to her, go. So the girl went, and called the child's mother,

"Kindness and humanity. Now today's stories. Our first story Israel and its Arab partners took numerous steps to try to avoid violence during Ramadan and Passover. But for Palestinians, only so much can change without the dignity they seek from a political settlement. In late March Israeli president Isaac Herzog met with Jordan's king Abdullah in a rare visit, and Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett followed up with a phone call days before Ramadan to discuss measures to ensure prayer gores, access to Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque. Israel also reached out to the United Arab Emirates and Egypt which, with Jordan, share an interest in avoiding a repeat of the chain of events nearly a year ago that saw heavy handed Israeli police tactics in Jerusalem help fan mass Palestinian protests and trigger a Gaza war, so why then is violence erupting once again in the holy city? Analysts say the pursuit of calm and diplomacy alone can't prevent conflict in the absence of a political settlement rooted in dignity. My Roth zone sign, at the international crisis group in Tel Aviv notes, there were lessons learned from 2021 to handle the situation better, Israeli police have changed their tactics, and have tried to keep things calm the first two weeks of Ramadan. But at some point, even if there are areas of improvement, things will always bubble up if there is no progress on the political side to the conflict. This story was reported by Taylor Locke in.

"Many of them have left their jobs. Now have any of these systems. Ben improved i mean. We're we're in the middle of another surge in infections right now. I know it's not really the same as like scrambling to figure this out at the beginning of the pandemic but we're being hit hard by delta. Are these problems that persist or have we figured out. I don't know how to fix some of this. These problems still exist today. Which is huge concern for public health officials in federal officials alike. Who are in the middle of trying to figure out how to contain delta look. Some states have made improvements to their to their data platforms. They've hired new vendors. New contractors got new kinds of systems in place and tried to train staff. But it's nowhere near where it needs to be particularly because they don't have the funding that they need to improve this entire process yet. President biden has allocated tens of millions of dollars to this issue specifically in his budget The cdc has promised to divert that money in the coming months but this is still a process and it will take years so we're nowhere near where we need to be right now. Whose fault is this. you said. We should've updated a lot of this stuff like ten years ago. i mean. why didn't we end. Who who's that up to. It's up to congress in the federal government to make sure that public health departments across the country have the funding. They need I think part of this is because we've been battling other challenges in the public health sphere for some time that took people's thinking away from the data modernization issue Onto other issues. You know after nine eleven there were as a lot of money that was put toward things like bioterrorism prevention or Making sure our public health departments you know had the resources they need to fight things like anthrax rate and so that was a huge talking point in focal point after nine eleven and then things shifted under the obama administration where we were trying to fight disease overseas. So there was a bulla their zeka. There are all sorts of other global viruses that we were trying to dedicate our resources to you know we did have flare ups with for example. H one n one But it was almost as though those flare ups here in the us were not big enough to grab the attention of the stakeholders at in the federal government to make them see that. We needed more resources. For key surveillance and for data modernization improvements in part of the problem is that this is just a swiss cheese type of problem whereby every state has almost a different kind of data system they use to track reportable diseases or infectious diseases. And so getting every single state on board to be able to change their systems and sort of work together is is a huge task and not every state health department is willing to make those large changes because they're so used to their old systems and their staff is trained with their old systems. So it's really about finding ways to get the right kind of technology in front of these public health officials where they can use it. They know how to use it. It could work well and that they're comfortable with it and they get the right people in place you know how to use these systems and that's going to be a huge struggle months and years to come erin banco. Thanks so much for talking with me. Thanks for having me. also today. Israeli prime minister naftali bennett will visit the white house. Took office in june after the ousting of prime minister netanyahu the conservative leader who had been in power since two thousand nine. Netanyahu made multiple visits to the us during his time as prime minister and had a close relationship with former president trump. The imf with us backing is issuing billions of dollars to aid poorer countries. A portion of those assets is scheduled to be allocated to afghanistan next week in event that has generated urgent pushback from republican lawmakers. The move to block. The funds is the latest effort by the us government to withhold financial resources from the taliban after it. Also cut off access to afghanistan's central bank assets. "Benjamin Netanyahu's 12 Year run in power ended this week as Israel's parliament voted in a coalition with Naftali Bennett as prime minister. For what this means for Israel. Going forward. We spoke with Jonathan Schanzer, senior vice president for the foundation for Defense of Democracies. You've got now a very motley crew of Israeli politicians that banded together. They will really not agree on much, So I think they're going to hold together for as long as they can. But I think Netanyahu likely sees a possibility in the coming weeks or months to try to disrupt the coalition. Break it apart and make another bid for another election. Can they agree on things like the economy? I don't think they've had a budget for a while. Now, have they know they have it and I think that's probably one area will see some progress. And actually, some of the participants in this new coalition are going to be important New voices. There's cigar by the name of Monsoor Abassi, representing Arab Party. It's the first time in an Arab party has actually agreed to join an Israeli governing coalition and this will secure additional finance. For the Arab sector of Israel. I think that will be very important, so you'll see some domestic progress on the foreign policy front. I think it's likely they're just going to hold the line. The current prime minister Naftali Bennett, is a right wing politician agrees with The vast majority of Netanyahu's former policies, and so he'll be opposed to the Iran nuclear deal will probably be less than excited to enter into negotiations with the Palestinian Authority. About two state solution issues, So I think you're probably going to see things to sort of hold steady while they begin to focus on things at home. The only thing that I'll just stay here is, of course, every time an Israeli government tries to focus on things at home, that's usually when things erupt abroad. And I would expect there to be some bumpy road ahead well, and none of us None of us wishes any more strife in that area of the world at all at the same time to put it most pointed way is this coalition gonna survive the first Rock? I think it's fired from Gaza into Israel. Well, that's actually I think probably the most important question to ask because you have the wrong party headed by months, or Abbas. He may be opposed to Israel, striking back at Hamas rocket You also have the participation of the very left wing pro peace Meretz party, which also could have problems. Uh, with an Israeli operation. You know, look that said, if you know future conflicts are short in duration, much like the last one was, which was only 11 days. It's possible that the Israeli government could survive it. But certainly I think that could be where some of the greatest differences of opinion could emerge. Could this coalition government have a different relationship with President Biden? I'm not saying the U. S government because goodness knows President Trump was very close with BB Netanyahu by all appearances, But I did notice that it took a while for B. B. Netanyahu and President Biden to talk after inauguration and by all reports, President Biden called Mr Naftali right away. Yeah, That's right. I mean, look. Part of the problem with with Biden in Netanyahu is that Netanyahu was the interim prime minister and it was in the middle of an election cycle. And it was a bit awkward for the president to call. Uh, Netanyahu when he was not the recognised prime minister. He was standing up for election in March, and it didn't want to look As if the United States was, you know, putting its fingers on the scale, so to speak, and didn't want to give Netanyahu will boost. There's also, of course, the history of these two men, and they had squared off before during the Obama years. In particular over the Iran nuclear deal, which the United States may be heading back into. The Israelis oppose that vehemently. But I do think that it's fair to say that the White House is probably welcoming a change at the top that there is an opportunity to reset relations. The only caveat that I would probably point out here is that then it will be no more warm to the idea of the Iran nuclear deal, And it could be that within a week or two. If the United States enters back into that deal, you have a new critic in Jerusalem, who will have just as A serving of rhetoric as Netanyahu. I noticed that Mr Netanyahu on his way out the door gave a very I would say inflammatory speech, likening the United States failing to do something Iran to FDR failing to bomb the railroads around Auschwitz. Do we expect this new coalition to be as adamant about Iran? And how is that going to sit with Mr Biden? Mr. Biden does apparently want to get a new deal with Iran. Yeah, he does, And and it's not sitting well in Israel to to put it mildly. Look, I think that one of the reasons why Netanyahu was able to stay honest prime Minister for 12 years and why he commanded so much respect inside the Israeli system is that he did take a very principled stand on the Iran nuclear deal. Most Israelis think it's a bad idea. Of course, Iran has vowed to destroy Israel on multiple occasions. And the idea of giving that regime tens or even hundreds of billions of dollars would probably not bode well for Israel, short term or long term, So the Israelis are very alarmed by this, and it's for that reason that they will oppose it. It will be safe for for Bennett to oppose it as well, thanks to Jonathan Schanzer Foundation for Defense of Democracies coming up one of President Clinton's transportation secretaries explains what the United States needs to do for infrastructure. He runs in his own party. You need 120. Actually, they have 120 ministers. Excuse me, 100 and 20 members of the Knesset, their parliament. His party got six. Six. Lot less than 5%. He's now the sitting prime minister of Israel. He swings to the left, He embraces the left wing parties. He embraces the Arab Party, which is really a jihadi party movement. Because he wants to be prime minister is 48. He won't wait. It's absolutely unbelievable, actually. And so by one vote. Effectively. One member they take over the government. This guy lied to the people of Israeli lie to the people who voted in his party. Hundreds of thousands, Not many, but still To get what he wanted to get. And the media. Think this is a unity effort. It's a unity effort. Unity around what Have these disparate groups. Anti Zionist pro Zionist, most of them anti Anti American. In some cases hard left, they call them center left there. You're never more than 15 minutes away from today's top stories on Arizona's news station to our news. It's time for Katya, Ours community spotlight where we shine a light on companies and organizations who give light to our community. This morning, the spotlight is on the Arizona Science Center with its chief of science and curiosity. Sorry, Custer. Good morning. Sorry and just you know your titles. Awesome. Jamie and I are big fans of the Arizona Science Center. And I bet most people don't realize it's Arizona's largest provider of interactive stem education. So please tell us about the creative ways you all promote science technology engine. Engineering and math. Awesome. Well, first off. Yes, I actually have to say that my title is pretty cool, too, because I have the coolest job having a chance to explore curiosity here every single day at Arizona Science Center. And as you mentioned, you know, we are a provider of some opportunities. Most people know the science center here with our four walls. We have four floors, 300 hands on exhibits a giant screen theater fold on planetarium, a maker, space traveling exhibitions. But what a lot of people don't know is that we also go out into the community and provide a ton of services. Is out in schools, community centers, libraries and so much more. We're talking to Siri Custer. She is Chief of Science and curiosity at Arizona Science Center. You have cool stuff about every age, including preschoolers. Tell us more about the science centres. Pre K Science on Wheels program. Yes. So, actually, we're very excited because we've been able to expand that program based on a grant. We just got from PNC Foundation. Just this past fall to be able to expand, And I mean our youngest learners. They're the ones we want to hook right. We want them to go into life loving, stem loving science and whether they go into a stem career or not, We want that that knowledge that hook that face to be there. And with the grant that we got from PNC Foundation, we're able to provide stem learning for pre K learners, our earliest learners in our community, um, for more than 2000 of them now this summer and fall and also 250. Pre k educators as well. So what kind of stuff do you have going on at the science under this summer where parents can bring their kids? Well, I'm so glad you asked, because, of course, we have all the learning going on with our pre K programs outside the science center, But we love what we love is connecting to our students when it's not in school time. So like this summer, preventing the summer slide, both with our camps and then also with the activities we have going on on the floors like pop the science of Bubbles, which is brand new at the Science Center. You get a chance to play with bubbles but learn about the size. Hands behind them. We also just opened the art and science of Iraq nets, which is not your typical bug exhibit. It's a people exhibit where you learn how Iraq needs are connected to everything from music and food to art and even medicine. And it's really interesting because it has 100 live Iraq. It's the largest public display of long live Iraq needs. In North America. It's absolutely exciting, and that's not all. We also are opening build it this summer, which is an exhibition all about engineering. So our guest to be able to come in, build it. Test it, Tinker it and just have a chance to let their imaginations run wild building things. Everything from a cardboard construction area to some classic. You know, the special plastic building blocks that we're all familiar with the little ones that you never want to step on at home. Um, but done in a whole new way so again to explore engineering, and we're ready for a whole summer of fun and learning at the science. Center. You know, Jamie's face lit up just about everything you just said. Except for when you connected Iraq needs and food, Then she didn't get no. We're one of the women one of a few countries that doesn't have insects. Actually, as a source of protein and I have to admit I bought at that, too. I have eaten ants personally. I don't know that I'm ready to eat a tarantula or a scorpion and I got to be honest. So I'm there with you. I want to eat them back. That's what I want to, uh alright. Yeah, we're talking with Jerry Custer, who is with the Arrows. The science center. A lot of these programs made possible by donors and organizations, including PNC Foundation, which recently made a big donations. Something called the Grow Up Grand, right? It is. And that grant was for $50,000 to support our early learners. So how many other organizations give? Um a lot. I hate to say it that way. But we have you know, we're so fortunate. I have to be completely honest. And I know I just but we have, um you know dozens upon dozens of community supporters, individual supporters as well and we can always use more. Because that those dollars go to support education, both on site here and off site in our community and again if The last year has taught us anything. It's that how important stem understanding is on that base level to having an educated citizenry. So again building that base is really important and we're so happy to have both PNC Foundation and everybody else who has been able to contribute to us. By the way, PNC, um has created the grow up Great initiative. In fact, 16 years ago, the focus on quality early childhood education, so it's not new for PNC, but the fact that they have turned their focus on the Arizona Science Center is really great for all of us. How can other organizations? Maybe even private donors find out more about helping the Arizona Science Center promote stem education?.
