"Last month. I'm hoping I'm pronounces correctly, but Michaela kava kind of an undersized right winger really shifty does a lot of cool things in terms of cutting back like changing the angle of the attack and really dangerous off the rush reminds me a bit of Willie nylander, like really fun player to watch, not so fun when she's scoring against us. And then on our team, we have a player by a name of Kennedy marchment, who's a Ford and who's actually mason markman's cousin. And I tell Kennedy, you're way better player than me. If you watch, if you watch this player play, she's crazy good, whether it's off the rush on the cycle. I could show these clips to NHL players and they would get something out of it. Just because they're not maybe the most physically dominant players at this level and you'll see a lot of team Canada or Team USA players, they're way bigger and stronger physically. But they're kind of in that next tier of players where they use their smarts and their skills to make up for that lack of physicality. And it just makes for really great hockey. And whether it's minor hockey players, junior players poor players, you can learn from that stuff. Like it. That's a good shout. Do you want to hear my three names who are NH others? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. All right. Your mileage on that may vary, but number one, Logan O'Connor. Okay. See the answer sneaky. You know what they're doing. They jumped on this while they could. I believe in September. They sneakily signed him for three more years at just over 1 million prayer. He's already there 7th most useful word this season up 5 one 5. He's the top used penalty killer. He has a goal and three primary assists in 46 shorthand admits this year for them. I think it was last year actually that the evolving wild guys posted something about how he should be in their silky consideration. And obviously people laughed at it because they're like, who the hell is Logan O'Connor? And he was playing like 9 minutes a night or whatever. And he had great suppression numbers. Everyone in the abs basically did. But just watching him this year, he's legitimately a good player. I've been impressed with him. And he's like sort of the perfect third liner where he's going to help drive play. He's a good defensively, but he has enough skill where if you have injuries the way they have, he can play up the line up in a pinch and not completely just be a black hole..

"Sleeper peck. Who's nobody talking about. That's the goal this year. That's just gonna have an awesome season. All my gosh. I could give you a few of them. I don't feel enough. People are speaking about philip group. Our even visit them. Yes you did you did you did you did. But in the general consciousness like a lot of people try to like hate on on grew which. I don't understand why because i think he's excellent and he's taken his game to such a higher level and i know from last year just doing so games on the nhl network showcase games on saturdays. He was locking horns with marc andre. Fleury he would lock horns with whoever else it is that he played against down at the other end and he was just money like he's awesome. He's worked really hard to get where he is. So he's a guy that i feel that people sleep on in a weird way somebody that you know elsie. Because you're out there in kelly. Now my man john gibson. Same thing he's awesome. He's been awesome since he went to kiss her or the seventeen year. Old pittsburgh. he's but you know. Obviously anaheim seems to be stuck in this perpetual rebuild. Then they can't get it out of neutral. Let's hope they can start to make some progressions this year but If i was a general manager. I'll tell you that'd be a goalie i'd be trying to trade for. I think he's going to have another big season. I just don't know where the team will be in front of him again and also to the facts at olympic year team usa. Hello that's what. I'm looking if you're going to be able to run connor a buck. John gibson is that spencer night. Is it thatch. Adecco is a cal. Peterson at the number three for say the olympics. But i think gibson's good. I've always been bullish on him since he was a junior and i don't think he gets enough. Love quite frankly or group. Our as just about to ask about spencer night of you think he's going to be that third guy. 'cause initially thought is gonna be Campbell but night. I don't know if he starts off. Strong it's possible. I mean look. We're just watching them in the world juniors last year okay. So we're watching them in the world. Juniors sky sick. i'm talking to my man. Roberto ongo future hall of famer mike. My former goalie with the islanders came in the league. And i asked roberta bobby. Tell me how he has. Lou. how is he's like macy's statler chit asses brother. Leo logo was just missing goalie coach in their h. l. team weeks average it like i went through robbie Everybody raves about this guy. People have played with him people that are playing with him in florida. Every single person and watching him burst on the scene. Shredded up college hockey after world. You last year obviously a boston college and then no saying with the nhl level. He's undefeated was amazing and he was so poised in playing so he's fortunate that he has a good pro them. There and sergei starts a lot of game left in as a consummate professional really committed to his craft but he can certainly make a big push engine. I can make a big push for that club to nobel. Yeah when we were making our picks. I pick spencer nights or in a colder. I really believe in kid. And i don't even have your connections week. See florida even tried out for their team to be an emergency backup. Golick five got connection down right there. That's true you know. I picked my spots on so anyway. I i love that kid. And i think you know bob ross. A we don't know what to get from him. But i picked florida to win the atlantic. I want to talk about the eastern conference because there's so many talented teams out of the atlantic and of course out of the metro and on an earlier. Podcast here with emily. I was like oh five teams coming out of the metro. Three or coming out of the atlantic i did. A spa was siriusxm channel network radio this morning and i'm like wait a minute. Linda only three hundred of the atlantic whose whose left out boston or toronto. And i said boston now probably pissed off a lot of people by because i'm thinking it's going to be florida tampa and of course toronto But it's gonna be nipping talk with toronto boston for the third spot. How do you see the playoff spots in the eastern conference plan out there week. See though i heard. I've heard you guys on the podcast. So far i i agree. I think it's gonna be a dogfight. The a dogfight to me. The west is a little bit easier to settle because the pacific isn't as strong in terms of its waited competition. Right which you you. You both have spoken about on the pod. But when i look at this ooh we.

"Here. With of course the great emily camplin and It's funny we're coming to you from a different hotel rooms. I and vegas and emily. You are in tampa and we have a special guest left right. You never left your just there and we have a special guest. Who's also from vegas hotel room of course but kevin weeks and i will be covering the same game which is the second half of our espn doubleheader tuesday night. The vegas golden. I'ts their home opener against the first ever. Nhl game for real the seattle cracking. Welcome kevin you so much ladies huge fans of yours and we have a lot of a lot of mutual support going back and forth. But i will say this. I've listened to every single episode so far every one of them and you can quiz nandana proven. They've been great so happy to be happy to be joining you bolt. Thanks for having me on in advance. And i love what you're doing it. They've been awesome so far. Honestly can you're the best. When i love all our new teammates but i just have a special affinity for you. Because you're someone that i can just call up and with a deal tell the truth. And that's why when we found out that we were going to have some espn personalities on this podcast. You're like thank heavens. Gotta be i and he is a thank. You thank you both know. Thank you and that's the only thing i'll see to on your at your goal. Union still goal union. Still so weak. See now that you're part of the worldwide leader. Was it what you expected it to be yet has been it has been you know I have really high expectations for things in the high level of standard. Two things have been raised that way. My parents have always been that way. They've been out of my sister and i. I love attention to detail. You know this being a former goalie and a longtime grade and em you know this is being an outstanding journalist and doing multimedia both of you there has to be an attention to detail and found that we've had that here so we've had that attention to detail here so far it's been infectious and also to as a new person here. I just love the fact that there's this much passion behind the investment because the initial investment and the rights acquisition is one thing but it's the passion and the attention to detail expected. Excellence every day that bring that to life and really take it to the next level. I've seen that. And i've loved that so forth and people are so sick of hearing this but the one thing people don't realize about espn is there's so many puck heads there over the last seventeen years be weren't airing game but it was still talked about in the building and there are still people that were so passionate kuching for the convention the twentieth old. Yiddish word. i can't do it but waiting for that opportunity here. They are so. I'm curious they'll against someone who came in from the outside and you come and work for. Espn what's something that you've either been super geeked out about when he saw or really surprised by oh. I didn't realize that this is the way it is here. about two things number. One thought about our talents seminars. Chicago and the fact that there was that level of of leadership in and setting forth. What the expectation of the blueprint looks like and standard of excellence steady greatness. That really grabbed me. And i'll tell you why. And i'm wired that way. I like to be that way and every but being a former goalie. it's all about precision. You know you play that position. It's all about precision everything literally one eight inches shoulders here or rotated the other way. That's a different to saving a goal. It or a micro fraction of a second makes the world difference as as linda's you know all too well still a hockey add new. I aspire to play in the nhl. But i love hoops. I love these other sports. So i was listening to a lot of great voices from local news to ron maclean and hockey night in canada to the late great john saunders. I can go all around l. c. yourself There's so many different people and that was the standard. So i never really came in broadcasting like somebody that just want the coast as a second career. I approach it with the same respect for so many women and men that are great at the craft and approach that with that. Same respect that i have for plant so i would say that that initial The initial meeting that we had in in chicago and then i'd also say the studio the other day going into the studio sick. Our studio looks amazing. I can't credit the fabricators and everybody behind the scenes. You're kinda doubt over reunited with twitter. I know that you're just trying to butter him up on said stop and he was. Larry david i couldn't have voted him up anymore. I mean oh my goodness teeth. All that fresh butter that that was pouring on for him but Knowing that i played for torches youngster. I played when i was young in tampa problem with my second or third year in the league and played for a little bit. Actually a lot of people would know for rochester. In the spangler couple over in switzerland a used there so i played for from over there to steve. Shield is loan to the buffalo sabres at the time. So there's a kind enough to let let me there to rochester to help my development at that time so Yeah it's cool. I really like the fact that we have different people. Different perspectives different genders across different parts of the color wheel different religions and not only on the camera but also have two cameras. Well i think that's cool because it's gonna lend itself to a multidimensional kind of perspective in terms of how we cover the game at all the different platforms that we cover it. We'll get back to the podcast just a minute but first does this sound familiar..

"But like lebron james. But that doesn't that's not normal so like it's just much. There's much more tangled wires in what you would have to do in hockey to get a similar league like that for prospects than in the nba Obviously injuries is the biggest thing with all this right that junior dato would like it in jail teams with mike right exactly so if something. If something like that word to work there would have to be some I don't know that there have to be some mitigations and the closest thing ever happened to. This was the world cup of hockey a couple of years ago and it was awesome and it was great. It was a lot of fun and it was right before the nhl season. But what's happening. yeah it was. It was great and it was on all the big stations it was on. Nbc was on nbc was on versus. That was on All the stuff but there are a lot of players they got hurt and they were out for portions of the season. Further pro clubs in the hated that. Yeah so everybody so at mean the if the owners say something. It's not going to happen again. So and that's really unfortunate. Because that was kind of their. It was the reason why they didn't go to the the olympics. Turn like okay. We're not going to go the olympics. But we're going to do this world cup of hockey thing and I mean it was great. It was fun but there are just too many injuries. And i guess the only mitigation you could do if you did like three on three league. Or whatever i guess just take hitting out of it. Boy sounds fun right now. Talk about the. oh l. And that's something that. I'll be competitive hockey. Won't it right and i mean it might be fun to watch like some some really cool like dangles and stuff like that and some really school skill moves. You'll like watching it if you like watching the nhl all star game. Which i for one do not partake in partaken. I don't mind it i hate. They're trying they're trying. I wish they would do other stuff for the all star game. Maybe we can start. I'll watch the skills competition all day. What's your what's what's your Ulcer also what's your favorite skills.

"Needed to bulk up a little bit before he gets to the nhl level. But what str- struck me about this. This kid particularly was that he plays a full two hundred foot game so there are some comparisons to like mark stone kind of maybe not at the same level as mark stone because obviously mark stone went higher in the draft. But this is a guy that could play a good two hundred foot game and that's something that the stars don't really have right now. I like it. I i definitely think getting someone who is obviously being at six one and only one seventy eight. He's obviously pretty lanky like if he feels out. There's no there's no telling where he could really do. So i really liked the pick. It's a high high ceiling but there's also a low floor. I think so. We'll see how this goes in and and you know these these late first round picks are not like the top three or top five where they could possibly jump into the nhl immediately. So this guy i mean. He's he's probably going to take a while before he gets into the nhl. I would maybe say four years max. Maybe three years. Maybe we see him in like three years. I harleys fixing to push the door down. We drafted him only a couple of years ago. So we'll see how that goes with wii johnson Just some other things about him is that he's got he some. Some things i've read is that he possesses a high hockey iq. He reached the play exceptionally well on both sides of the puck. So this is a guy that you know. The stars are missing. We don't have somebody like this. Within our organization we have guys that are really gifted offensively and guys that are really gifted defensively. Not really like a mix of both. We don't have a mark stone type player in those guys are very very valuable and i think we possibly picked one up and white johnson next guy who that i got some info about him. Is logan stink oven. The i mean. I i can imagine if he ever makes the nhl. Which i hope he does he. He's around the same time around the same area where rope. A hints was drafted. I hope he makes it because that is just as i. I can imagine t shirts being sold with that last name like that. That's absolutely awesome. Dan goven a love. it anyways This is a guy that if we had salmon he would probably enjoy talking about. This kid is five eight. He's the only guy that is under five nine in the stars draft class twenty twenty one and he's only one hundred and seventy pounds so i mean that just goes to show you how linke wyatt johnson is himself. 'cause i mean he's like what six inch not six inches probably about four or five inches shorter than why at johnston. And he's only about eight pounds lighter so Y lebron's is going to have to bulk up but anyways about logan. He's a high offensive player. That generates chances on most shifts possesses a very good shot with an excellent release very good play making ability and vision. Timely offense of hockey since to generate chances. A good motor and competes hard.

I'm gonna say halo again. Because chris made fun of me on the last episode for it. Now we're not going to go into crazy depth we may hit a couple of highlights but for example like goaltenders. Holy crap was carousel. this year. Anyways chris I'll let you have the floor. How you doing hello. I am great essay halo. Nah so don't okay all right well. What do you want to get started with. I chris because we got three things to talk about we can do. The we can talk about. "If i'm the league i'm gonna be pissed off and you gotta find the mole. That's that's in the registry in the nhl registry so That's that i also wanted to talk. Real quick about couple players stood out to me in the first round. The entry draft Taibu getting selected tenth of raw by the senators Super wile pick I really didn't expect. I didn't even have him. I don't think my first round So that was crazy for me also. Yes for wall said Sank in the standing are in the standings in her The pick selection right. I mean he went twentieth. I believe he went twentieth to the wild I had him ranked. I think like six. So yes that's crazy. Also acklin slipped a little bit which. I didn't really think that he would thought he would be top five. Pick And so here's the big one them What's his name. I don't even know his name. Because a how like you know. Logan Get selected thirty. I will rely montreal. Canadian's and i think the whole world the whole hockey robot shocked. You know i mean here you have this kid who rescinded himself from the draft. Didn't want to be a part of the draft and gets taken in the first round and it's not like he just said oh i don't want to be in the draft because i don't wanna play in that at all. He took himself out of the draft because he was convicted in charge for taking nonconsensual photos of a woman and then distributing them in sweden. And it's like so it's like for a reason that he took himself out of the draft. Teams had him on there. Do not draft boards. And you know this may get kind of political so pair with me. But like i say many you know when we hear this in instagram comments like on a lot of stuff people say oh. Yeah you know like cancel kosher added again. It's like honestly man fuck all that cancel. Culture doesn't exist in hockey. I don't care what anybody says. No here we have this young guy who he fucked up yet. Okay you know you could say he's dumb kid and he made a mistake but he made a mistake. That's gonna follow this woman for her whole life especially this in her town that her pictures of her in these vulnerable positions were distributed and taking without permission. And it's like. I don't know how much like i don't know what else i don't know how you can justify and say that cancel culture is a thing in hockey because he still got taken the first round and something that really frustrated me and i forgot where i heard this mentioned but it was that he. He was talking about in his post media. Availability he was saying that he wants to use this as a learning experience for young men in a junior hockey. What are they learning that they can that they can do discussing things to women and then still get an nhl in the first round the still be a first round draft pick and how that pedigree to their name. I mean my god like just how tone-deaf speaking of tone-deaf then just like birgit bergman's comments and just like at. and so. i think it's really notable in trevor timmins. The canadians had scout. He was asked why he fought montreal. believe that logan you deserve to be drafted. When he said that he didn't there was a twenty one. Second pause are twenty..

"Being will start in Colorado. I would even ask. Not only does Colorado. Have a shot? Are the Colorado Avalanche? A favorite to win the NHL title? Yeah, I think calling have a phone number. It might be even an understatement. The NHL does the bracket challenge? I think they got, like, 55% of the vote. They're, they're both really good to have a goalie Who's won a Stanley Cup before Philipp grubauer. He won with Washington a few years ago. Like I said, Nathan MacKinnon is top three maybe top two players in the NHL. They have they can score anywhere. They've got really good young defenseman. They are just flat-out unbelievable and they they know they need to win now. So they've been dominating and that in this first series against Saint. Louis, how did Colorado build their team? Like how do they get to this point where they're so dominant? I'm not really sure how to put it. I brought I want to say, they got lucky a little bit with some drafting, but I think that might be a little disingenuous to them because They they're one of those teams where they're GM is just on a unbelievable job. I mean, because they've been good for a while. They don't get these super high picks. I mean Nathan MacKinnon, a first overall pick in 2013, I believe. But other than that, a lot of their Superstar players have they've gotten later in the draft. So it's been pretty crazy. They've got going by Rome is a, a young guy. They just got him last, you know, last draft of the, the prior I can't remember but they got him at like 19 and he's he's already in the NHL. He's already making a difference from they've got like they get a lot of good guys and late in the first round in the second round. Where a lot of these guys, you don't know if they're going to pan out, but they always seem to pan out in Colorado. I'm not really sure how they've done it, but they've they've really built from the draft and it's it's really impressive. Well, it's for sure it's it's probably both it's more luck and upper dead. And preparation kind of meet each other here, that I forget, the quote, I wish I remembered that sound smarter, but it's kind of like opportunities where they meet each other and I, it sounds like for sure. They got lucky some of the stuff hand out, but there must be, I watch the Colts who draft every year in the NFL, they are dominant. And I, I know some people in the Colts building and what they talk about the way they build that organization. Like, they have a philosophy, they have a strategy in a plan and it clearly works very well Colorado. Well for sure there's luck involved. I like how you mentioned like I might be a bit disingenuous cuz they're also is some level of them just good at what they do. They're good at drafting and developing players to. Yeah yeah and they've made a lot of like really smart trades. They made a trade with San Jose, the ended up giving him the 4th overall pick off and that was kind of a throw-in. It was kind of a if this happens you'll get this pick ended up being the 4th overall pick. So that might have been a bit lucky because San Jose kind of thought they were in a position where they were dead..

"Don't contribute a whole whole lot offensively but in that they have or one of the best goalies in the NHL and Carey Price, so he's really the reason they won game one, so he's going to need to be good if they want to continue to win this series. But I think Toronto off as a little too much urgency right now a little too much pressure on them to lose this first-round matchup. I want to ask about the MVP award because hockey does a weird thing where weirds the wrong word volt, they don't just call the MVP award they call it the Hart Trophy and it's I always struggle because there's like I have to remember the names and how they correlate with other Awards in the NHL, who's your favorite and who do you talk to about them? Award in the heart of where the Hart Memorial Trophy. And what do you think should and will happen? Yeah, I mean the heart is a really interesting trophy because like you said it's most valuable players. So there's a lot of different ways to look at it. I mean, it's supposed to be most valuable player to your team versus most valuable to the like within the league. So your team could be horrible. But if you're the best player of the only reason they're winning, you could win the Hart Trophy in theory. So there's a lot of players that have kind of been in the conversation, but I would say personally, I would probably give it off in Matthews, in Toronto, he he really drives their offense. He scores a ton of goals. He's kind of the heart and soul of the team. So I think I would give it to him. But there's a lot of different players who could win it this year. I'm really interested to see who the jurors select Well, I would imagine it's similar to the NFL quarterbacks. Where is it true? Our goal is often in the conversation simply because of their the importance of to their team. Yeah, yeah. So a lot of times, if you see a goalie when it's going to be because their team is not very good, and they're pretty much the reason that they they're competitive. So that goalie for the wage is I just touched on Carey Price. He wanted back in 2014-15 when they were not a very talented team and he was Undoubtedly, the best goalie in the NHL and he was stealing them games regularly so that he was.

"My goodness, good morning, good afternoon, whatever it is for you. I hope you're having a fantastic day. Name is Zach, similar too, strong of any sports episode. 355, welcome, and I am calling this episode, my NHL playoffs Extravaganza and not recording in the middle around 1, you'll hear about my plan for the NHL playoffs down the road. I'm going to try to report a podcast about every round kind of recap around 1 and then a preview around to I kind of between every round. One thing that I am recording this in between two episodes so interviews. So what you'll see in this episode is too long form, interviews, one with Nathan Shield, a guy who I love I gave him as a hockey expert. I want to introduce him to you, he's phenomenal, and by the way, him a nice conversation. We had never talked in person at all and, you know, even well, I guess never talked at all, let alone face-to-face dead. You know, on on throughout through a camera before our conversations, I thought we started a cool and we got warmer as it went on and then also we had a delay where I would say stuff. And then there's a delay with a then he would start talking. And I think it took us about ten minutes where we figured it out but man, I'm really proud of that. It's a great conversation. I learned a lot. I had so much fun. I think we talked for like an hour. I mean, we really had a great time. Then later after that interview, I'm going to do an interview in about an hour. With a really good friend of mine, Austin cram, who is a, he's got MMA podcast. He's really cool and I, he is the person who introduced me to hockey when I was a kid. His dad had season tickets and they used to take me to go watch hockey games. And I, it's where I fell in love with one key. And I gotta be honest, I I love hockey. I don't feel like I have the tools in the toolbox to follow hockey between time and bandwidth and everything.

Sure the Canadians have Paul Byron and Brendan Gallagher as their alternate captains, but instead of an a I use an e and the Canadians had quite the offseason. That's right. Sure the Jets have already been eliminated from the playoffs to reduce travel and the Jets had quite the offseason. That's right. Why don't you tell us about the Flames? Nope didn't need to now it's time for who has the best shirts off. Who has the best shirts in the NHL I think goalies have the best shirts because they're nice and big and can fit all of their pads this year. The NHL is doing reverse shirts to reduce travel. Now. Let's have our friend Jeff read one of the most important rules of NHL. Rule 9.6 helmets all players shall wear a helmet of design material and construction approved by the league while participating in the game either on the playing surface pro players or penalty benches a player on the ice whose helmet comes off during the play shall be assessed on minor penalty. When a goalkeeper deliberately removes his helmet and or face mask in order to scare us a stoppage of Play the song. The referee shall award a goal to the not offending team now. Let's talk about the West. Tell us about the Ducks. Quack quack quack quack and the Ducks had quite the offseason. That's right. Tell us about the coyotes the coyotes go back. And the coyotes had quite the offseason. That's right. Tell us about the Avalanche. The Avalanche goes down here and the Avalanche had quite the offseason. That's right. Tell us about the Sharks why tell you about the baby sharks when I can talk about them and the Sharks had quieted offseason. That's right. Tell us about the Kings the Kings might as well be the king's Gambit because I'm not going to watch them this year and the Kings had quit offseason. That's right. Tell us about the blues you sound like my therapist and the blues had quite the offseason. That's right. Tell us about the night to reduce travel bag of all their travel budget to Alex Peter Angelo and the Knights had quite the offseason. That's right. Now it's time for an ad which is paid for by a Minnesota Wild fan. It reads hockey can be stressful. We've all been there when the games get too intense too exciting. Well, I haven't been there. I'm a Minnesota Wild fan. Now, let's do some chirping off chirping is when a bird talks knock knock. Who's there a bird, huh? A bird that speaks English. I'm Larry Bird. Knock knock who's there Larry the Cable Guy, huh? I thought I was supposed to get a bird. Not a Larry while you're going to get a bird Thursday. Open this door. Now. Let's talk about the Central division. Now. Let's watch a hockey movie goon Skippack ninety minutes for when we're done watching the movie. Just kidding. It's not all business.

"What's the very latest. Like i know this is very fluid and changing and what you say now is not going to be true five minutes from now but his as best you're able to to grab and try to grasp some water in your hand and not let it slip through your fingers. Where are we at. I think we're in the grinding stage. There grinding away at the protocols there grinding away at the schedule there. Grinding away at the setup the divisions temporary realignment there grinding away at the transition rules. All of this stuff and you know basically people have been telling me it's endless. Zoom calls trying to figure it out and the players in the league decided that they're not going to touch their ask ro. They said they weren't doing that. But in order to to a greater deferments they said we consider certain things one was not this upcoming season but next season which is twenty one twenty two extra five hundred thousand dollars on the cap. Another five hundred thousand a year later and the league wasn't willing to go for that. I know they suggested compliance buyouts but as long as the players didn't have to pay for them and the league wasn't going for that. I think that one thing that also had been talked about was could individual players. Say yes we're willing to defer even if the whole group didn't agree to it but that was way too complicated and it didn't go anywhere so they didn't go anywhere on the financials and now they're you know they're grinding away. All the other stuff taxi squad. How big the is going to be if the ross twenty five people. How does that affect the cab house. The realignment gonna work first. Minnesota was in the pacific and then saint. Louis was in the pacific. Minnesota was out and then they were talking about saint louis and minnesota going to the pacific and dallas going into the central division. Apparently dallas has said. You know we'll do whatever but they laugh the pacific a few years ago to get back into that that central time zone so they're happy <hes>. With doing that. I know the players were hoping to vote end of the weekend maybe beginning of next week and the league sort of middle towards end of next week. I think that's what everyone's kind of aiming for so as you mentioned off the top. They're the latin packing that you mentioned that they're not touching the financial some conversation about it. And will you do this if we do that. But ultimately that remains the same and they move onto the return to play. All the protocols involve is this the rare case. And we'll do this all under the umbrella of the current incarnation of this. Nhl goes back to. Oh four zero. Five and bob good now and the salary cap etcetera. Is this the first case that we've seen where the nhl pa dug in its heels. Didn't give in didn't budge and one. Here's why i'm not giving you a yes sooner or later. This bill is going to get paid. I think this generation of players could say yes we won. We stood strong. We agreed to a deal. We didn't move from the deal. Though thing that the commissioner is right about from what he said publicly is that it's a fifty fifty deal yup and at some point in time the bill has to be paid and the biggest issue. The owners have is cash flow. This is why some of them are really upset. Cash flow is going to be down in the league. Because there's going to be no fans in the building. This year will not be fifty fifty. It's going to tip towards the players. Probably the most ever. It's going to tip towards the players and the escrow that's going to be collected is in no way going to be equal what's going to be owed. Yup it's possible. After this year the players are gonna. Oh the owners more than a billion dollars as a matter of fact depending on who you locked talk to. It's not just possible. It's likely i'm just being careful. 'cause i'm getting my math from everywhere else and i haven't sat down and done it myself. But it's likely that they're going to owe them more than a billion dollars and the problem. Is that the schedule of that. Pay is slower than the owners would like. So there's gonna be some cash flow issues so they're unhappy but what it means is. Is that the cap is not going to go up. Maybe for the entirety of this. Cba yup so that affects the players and the other thing is at some point in time. This money is going to become do. And what's that going to mean like their owners right now. Who are saying their concern. Is that this six year deal. There's a time where it gets triggered to seventh year if the losses are at a certain amount and they will be so after seven years the players are still gonna hold the owners money and that's going to become part of the next cba and what that's gonna mean and this might send us all into retirement. Jeff is that six or seven years from now there's gonna be one hell of being negotiated all because the owners are gonna come into. Its saying you owe us hundreds of millions of dollars and the players are going to say well we think part of it. Some of that should be forgiven worried about this. This is a long term thing. But i can tell you the owners are thinking about it now and the league is thinking about it now so the only reason. I say it's not unequivocal. Yes for the players is that there are some players playing now who are going to be hugely affected by this. What was the line that you used on me on hockey central. Oh this is <hes>. Travis ajax sang jack hughes. Yeah you're going to pick up this bill and that's definitely part of this so i think the current players. It's a win the guys who won't be playing in six or seven years. It's a win but the guys who will be it's not a win historically though is just as an aside. I mean bob. Good no talked about this in the four. Oh five negotiation salary caps always pit player versus player. Because you define a pie. Everyone fights for their piece of it so it shouldn't come to any surprise that again. This is the players association. Saying you know what if anyone's going to get stuck with the bill here. It's going to be the kids. The rookies amongst all the players that are capped. And everybody is the rookies triple capped. You know there's a team salary cap. There's an individual players salary cap and there's a rookie salary cap as well. This is the history. This is the history of <hes>. Of the of the nhl or and happens in in every sport is always the guys that are coming in like. Listen shane right. Hasn't played a single game in the nhl. He's affected by this decision. Yes absolutely and you know if go back. Fifteen years. The highest paid players in the nba or the picks glen robinson number one. Pick think nine hundred nine ninety five sixty nine million and the people in the league were like we're stopping this. The veterans are said. This is crazy so they came up with the nba rookie salary cap. You look at the nfl. The quarterback so used to be taken to the top of the draft. Anybody got taken to the top of the draft huge deals. The veterans said. We're putting a stop to this and they did. That's the way it works and it's not just like that in sports there's unions all over the world that do this kind of thing they take care of the current worker at the expense of the future. One it's not unusual and that's exactly what happened here sooner or later. This bill is going to become do okay so you talked about how this to the grind time right now in the nhl in the players association trying to get this thing hammered outs <hes>. I'm curious about a couple of things here on vaccines in a second <hes>. But in the summer players were allowed to opt out. Now is a much different time. We didn't know as much about covid. Nineteen as we do now. We knew the we are heading into unknown. But was the bubble entire landscape. Can we just didn't know there were questions. And there were certain risks as some players opted out in. Everyone said no problem we understand. How much is opt out an issue right now boy. That's a great question. I think we could see some retirements. Yep i think the other thing is how comfortable do some people feel like playing if you watch the news and don't live in a cave or read the news. We are two or three months away from the vaccine. starting to have a real positive effect on society. We probably won't have full fans until next season. Dr fauci said a week ago. The next league to begin its season with full fans will likely be the nfl in september but were getting closer however these next two months. They're going to be ugly painful

"These story of the week the Seattle thirty two's have a name. They are the Seattle cracking before we drill down and getting some of the. Pacific says a Sandy Atlantic about this. How important was the events of this week for Seattle for the NHL? Like how big a deal is this for the League? It's a huge deal and first of all. It was a fun topic Jeff. Life is hard for people right now. And that was a fun couple of hours. The reveal the video, the look at the Jersey. The name like whether people like the name or didn't like it. They were kind of laughing like Whoa. That's really off the board and I know you don't like it. Because of the nicknames that can come from it, but I love it. It's different. It's different for hockey. It's a step out of the. The normal, it's bold. It's it's a change. It's a try it something new, and I think hockey badly needs that. There were a couple of interesting things I've found out in some conversations number one when they were talking about the Jersey with the people from Adidas one of the things they were saying is we have to imagine what it would look like to lift the Stanley Cup? In this Jersey we can't think that it's going to. To look terrible to lift the Stanley Cup in this Jersey and I liked the Jersey. I liked that way of thinking i. think that's very big. The other I heard that was interesting, was <hes> that they chose the name crack and I, and then they went about the identity, the logo and the Jersey and the like the story line of the cracking, and there were some people who heard the name and they were like, are you? You, sure about this, is this really a good idea? And then they started to see the logo and the identity behind it, and they bought in and a lot of times when expansion teams come in. They won't reveal the name the logo end the Jersey at the same time they'll do maybe name and logo at once and Jersey later. This was a win because they did all three at once and I think that's sold people. I think they had to do it that way. And I I think you're right and to the point like we've talked about before I, wanted sasquatch. Works on a whole lot of levels, but again as I pointed out on this podcast before I've realized, and I've been dragged kicking and screaming into this realization that not everything is for me, and that's okay now. I don't want to <hes>. I gotTa WanNa shoot an Arrow and then paint a circle around it after it lands I. Don't WanNa. Be That Guy Oh. Yeah I, liked it all along cracking his great. Oh a homerun tape measure, but at that reveal. I didn't hate it. Like I love the colors I love you collars look great. The colors are great. The logo looks great. I can get used to crack in and the one. You're think is a good one. It is different. It is distinct and the one expectation that I think we all have a bow. Seattle at this point is that everything they do is going to be new is going to be progressive is gonNA surprise a lot of people whether it is the name which is very nontraditional, whether it's the first you know green arena climate pledge arena. Everything they do is going to be different. We expect that they're hiring policies progressive <hes> the way that they are going to do business as progressive I. Just hope that it doesn't stop now I. Don't think that it does but what does do Elliot selfishly since I have conceded sasquatch. Bang the drum for different colored ice for Seattle Oh my God. I knew you're GONNA. All all our producer I wrote down actually I got to tell you I wrote down. When does jeff come up with the different colored? Ice Oh my God yeah. I'm telling. Pretty, it'd be this early. It will put it this way Jeff. If one team's going to do it, it's going to be this one well. They WANNA. They're promoting. They have the green arena, so do green ice here you go. Here's your chance. I'd love to see if the NHL allows this you know. It reminds me a lot of the raptors. When the raptors came in new, there were a lot of people didn't like raptors and I remember. John Bits of doing an interview on the Fan with Bob McCowan and John. biddle said Bob. What do you think of the name and he goes Bob? Said I hate it and John biddle said good. That means that you're not in our target audience so I! Don't care what you think about it. And the other thing, too, is you talk about the team? Look at their twitter feed now that we have a name or strategizing all the ways to draft your favorite player. Yeah, like there are people in the league. Telling me I'm sick of these guys already sold. The rivalries are building. Yes, rivalries are building so the other two Jeff I I'd heard was. I heard the amount of meetings over the small details were unreal. The color of the is how many is you know I didn't realize I saw the video. When you look at the logo, the <HES> S has tentacle through it. <hes> like that black line is the tentacle of the cracking, and there was one person who told me that <hes>. They weren't so sure about this until they saw that video and I have to say identify with that. When I saw the video and saw that that's what that black line was supposed to be. I thought that was really cool. What are the things about the whole reveal by? Seattle is the security around at the secrecy around. It <hes> the lack of leaks. I thought for sure that by the morning of the announcement it would be out there and confirmed by somebody <hes> I'll tell you the one thing that I learned from one of maybe if not my favorite movie of all time jaws. Is this <hes>? Don't show the shark. Secret that movie is they don't show the shark until much later on. Don't show the shark and the one thing that Seattle did in this entire process is. They didn't show the shark like sure. There was a temptation there to extend the metaphor. Show the shark, but they didn't do it. Even in that video as everybody is going through this pruder's style frame by frame by frame, trying to look for clues I gotta give it to Seattle Man. They didn't show the shark at all. One of the big conversations I heard after they decided the name was. What's the Mascot GonNa look like. Well and that's when you get the rivalry about DETROIT WITH DETROIT. Yes, it looks too much like a traditional octopus. It won't. There's no way it will. No of course not, and they also said like the Jersey, the crack and has to look. Not like a WIMP, it can't be a wimpy cracking I. Don't know enough about <hes> mythological creatures. I'm not sure there can be a wimpy cracking. Does it exist I? Doubt it every movie I've ever mccracken. They're pretty nasty, but they definitely talk about that. We can't have a soft cracking. So the jerseys were revealed <hes> the branding is revealed and Tim Leiweke, who's a CEO of the Oak View Group was on hockey central with us. The day of the announcement and he let something slide. Let something slip. That was pretty interesting. We spent more time going back and look at the Metropolitans. In the fact, they won the Stanley cow, so we spend a lot of time looking at that history and tradition. <hes> I won't spill all the beans, but I'll tell you. There's a third and Fourth Jersey coming. Eventually wore on her <hes> that legacy in that tradition. Hundred Seventeen team. Of course when the won the Stanley Cup I would imagine that if they're winking at history that hard, and I think that they will. That will probably see Abana raising on opening night while you're going to do something special rate. I think they'll do a number of the special things on opening night I would imagine that would be one of them. Yes, and you know a nice touch too here. We are here here. He goes, SEATTLE. Here's here's a million ideas here on this podcast. HAP Holmes was the goaltender for that Seattle team homes played on a number of Stanley Cup, champions real good goaltender <hes> born in Aurora in the Aurora Sports Hall of Fame, died relatively young I think it is early fifties in Florida, but he wore a baseball cap. I think it might have been the first goaltender in the NHL to ever wear a baseball cap. It would be nice if they did something with HAP Holmes and abate. I don't know what it is I'm just doing this off the top of my head, but if someone is wearing a hap-. Maybe it's whoever the goaltender is for. The opening ceremony wears a HAP, Holmes baseball hat that would be a nice touch for the. Hockey nerd like me out there. WHO DIDN'T GET SASQUATCH well? One thing I looked up was to Seattle have any retired numbers and they don't. Remember when Ottawa came in <hes> had an old retired number. Frank Finnegan, and they honored it. But Seattle, I can't sense that they do. Okay, so now. Seattle's job is to make this team to create this team out of nothing not unlike what Vegas went through most recently. Do. They have a friend in the flat Cap Seattle All I. We talked about this last week. I, think they're a huge winner. In the new CBA their job just became. If easier is the right word, but I they gain some real advantages and. A few teams have said that to me that the mistakes Vegas they were going to avoid them now. Circumstances have dictated that someone's going to have to make them, and it's a huge advantage for them. There's no question from a financial point of view Elliott. We just mentioned the flat cap here second ago. Given the economic realities NHL NHL is going through now, and we'll go through in the next couple of seasons I know. I opened up by saying how important is Seattle team, but I'll ask it again from an economic point of view to this team, not just become where the more important teams in the NHL team thirty two new infusion of money. Well there's no question that that's true and new infusion of enthusiasm to the Batman, and daily made it very clear and their negotiations with the players that ownership cash flow was very important. They got expansion money that players don't share in from Vegas and there were some owners who thought they didn't get enough. In terms of the system stuff, edgy arbitration <hes> that they wanted, but one of the things they could be sold on was that they've expansion money coming in, and that's their win, and that's cash, so there's no doubt that Seattle's big for a lot of reasons, and the other thing too is even before this. There were people who were predicting. Predicting that Seattle would be a top ten revenue team in the NHL. They're gonNA need that. They're merchants already hot negative. That's one of the reasons. It didn't get out because it's not ready at right me, you can order stuff, but I learned through this process that one of the ways that logos and names get leaked Jeff is that you have to share them with vendors or you presale them to vendors and things like that. They didn't do it this time. They didn't do it this time day. Kept it all close <hes>. Alright talk, congratulations, seattle you now have a name in the NHL has team

"Very very hypothetical but the NHL the NHL Players Association the NHL and NHL Players Association meetings are taking place in which they plan on discussing a possible return for the twenty nineteen twenty twenty NHL season and playoffs in the one idea that seems to be floating around as a potential playoff tournament that would take place in North Dakota North Dakota in the middle of nowhere because there are fewer people yeah one location that's being mentioned for this possible finishing of the of the regular season and playoffs is North Dakota several sites would be necessary but the Ralph Engelstad arena in Grand Forks North Dakota makes sense it is the it was the host of the two thousand five World Junior Championships the twenty sixteen world under eighteens and ends it is the home of the NC double a is fighting hawks they say it is a very impressive facility that's pretty much out in the middle of nowhere and I could see that being the thing they're they're scenarios being talked about the same way with the with the NBA body gonna do we gonna start testing everybody every day a gas remember when we were like oh they're not going to have supporting you know they're gonna have games in front of no fans would we would we kill right now for a game in front of fans yeah it it is wild to think how fast this thing progressed in the sense of I remember believing so seeing Italy in going okay there's no way we would never you know we would be playing in front of empty arenas right in for like a day that became a possible reality and then you know before that could even come to fruition that was shut down and and here we are so you know if if it's shipping our athletes out in the middle of nowhere to where nobody else is in having the play sports for the rest of us is what needs to happen I think we're gonna get to a point where where that's got to happen trump said on Saturday he talked to everybody he was on a conference call with every single leader of every single group and he's talking about getting back to work he said in a press conference look for the NFL NFL to start on time I hope that's right I mean he also tweeted out this morning light at the end of the tunnel that was it that was the tweet okay I'll take whatever I think wherever he can find hope right now that just a day after the Surgeon General who had been you know one of the guys who is somebody accused him of down playing it in the beginning he seemed to be more worried about you know S. seeing Donald did you know Donald Trump often in giving us the fax yeah yesterday he made a couple different appearances on TV and he had a possibly some of the starkest warnings we've heard yes and yet in regards to the next week in regards to the covert nineteen great Surgeon General okay this tragically fitting that weren't talking at the beginning of Holy Week because this is going to be the hardest and the saddest week of most Americans live quite frankly this is going to be our Pearl Harbor moment R. nine eleven moment only is not going to be localized it's going to be happening all over the country and I want America to understand that but I also want them to understand that the public along with the state and federal government have the power to change the trajectory of this epidemic is trust do you find that careless I mean did did those words seem like maybe not the best idea I wish look I I'm sure these people all choose their words very carefully sometimes to me it doesn't seem like they choose them carefully enough so when I first saw this I thought oh my god that's going to scare a lot of people we we talk often about you know the the fear mongering and how not to get caught up in it and you know we want to make sure we're walking that line yeah but then in the same breath we sit here we have conversations about how seemingly nobody's taking anything seriously we've got young people who still want to hold on to their you know their social life by doing all the things they're doing we can't get old people you know who should be most worried of all to stay inside so do you think when they say things like that it's to get those people who don't seem to get the head to get the hit I hope so but I don't think there's any reaching those people that doesn't mean they shouldn't try yeah I mean I did to me I I think I'm over I'm over being mad at for people for for doing things that seem real scary right if the truth is the truth I don't think people are going to realize until there it's in our backyard it's still your neighbor in your apartment complex your neighbor at home or somebody one of your relatives dies I don't think that you know outside of those few things I don't think the average person is going to be touched enough but that's just my opinion saying things like this might get a few of those people to to act right totally agree of this kind is going under the radar a little bit Christopher cross a staple here on through gravel live here and you know usually every Friday known for his Grammy Award hating with hits like sailing and Arthur's theme all tested positive for the corona virus and he is saying it is the sickest worst illness he's ever had in his entire life Duran Duran's bassist John Taylor announced he added as well he beat it already but he said it was like the worst flu you could possibly imagine yeah Christopher cross released a statement saying I'm sorry to report that I am among the growing number of Americans who tested positive for the cove it nineteen virus I'm not in the in the habitat of discussing medical issues on social media but I do so in the hopes this will help other people to understand how serious and how contagious this illness is he does gonna say this is possibly the worst elements I've ever experienced sixty eight years old yes I mean he's he's he's out of the it's not out of the woods and he has had some freaking phenomenal songs I need to see people like Chris Cuomo you know the brother of governor Andrew Cuomo he was on CNN saying he has had the worst night of his life he chipped his tooth from shivering so much and was hallucinating because of the fever the cable came along with covert nineteen thought he talked to his dad right is dead yeah his dad dad he thought he was seeing.

"Had to have the NHL and have college football in the of the NFL all of that in full flight taz is it a scenario now are your for your item so we said let's see what exactly when the NBA starts the game more of a center stage look right right maybe it's a case that you know the the year of the popularity will rise here or or the ratings will rise across the association maybe the maybe that is indeed the case I I don't know that answer but I I will say that you know when you look at it I do know number of of my friends have had a hard time getting in to lead this year and get into the association and get fired up about it and they don't really have a great tangible reason as to as to why they just tell yeah yeah you know what what we'll see exactly what happened maybe it's the team that there's no great team that you have to chase maybe that's the reason why but I do think it could work for them in the end task because I do believe this our when you get to the NBA playoffs as much as right now you see the ratings are bad if you get to the NBA playoffs at wide open as it appears it's going to be that's going to work for the league I guess you're gonna any it because you're gonna be able instead of looking at like four five teams that could maybe win the NBA championship per couple years was to write it was the cavs with lebron and it was the gold state warriors those are the only two teams that you look at inside those the only two teams are going to championship if your probably will run down a list of seven eight nine teams that could win an NBA title of everything goes right when you get to the NBA playoffs and I do think for the league that'll work for right you know I do I think once we get later into the year like you said towards the post season the numbers of go up and and it's also for the hard core NBA fan that's maybe listen was saying in the thing I've got one that's going on what what are these guys is just correct the number we all correct the ratings are down but this is not the fright was this isn't a new trend I mean it just seems to be kind to be getting a little bit worse each year that goes by like meaning that early in the year numbers are down but it does seem like it's getting worse as more time goes by right it builds up all meant to be season does go along but want to hear from you at eight five five two one two four C.
