"More transparent after the release of fatalities statistics that came out over the weekend. At Baxter has global news from the 9 60 newsroom in San Francisco. Yeah, Brian Beijing reporting out of that almost 60,000 COVID related deaths on the month. Bloomberg's Emma O'Brien says Beijing has been under a lot of pressure from a lot of different areas. So it is interesting that they have come out with the 60,000 number. It does suggest that they are recognizing the pressure that they are getting, particularly from international bodies like the World Health Organization, and the U.S. in particular around their COVID data, which is basically being either nonexistent or meaningless for the past month. Now, WHO chief Tedros Cabrera says he has spoken with Beijing health ministry and has reiterated, he says more timely and open and transparent, sharing of information. He says, he appreciates being able to talk with the NHC director, but the world needs more immediate data if it's going to effectively fight the disease. A showdown is coming between President Biden and the Republican controlled House of Representatives over the looming debt ceiling deadline later this week. At this point, the lines in the sand are pretty deep. Bloomberg economics and government reporter Chris condon on daybreak issue says this will be a tough one. We know it's going to be especially difficult this time because the speaker, the new speaker, Kevin McCarthy, is beholden to a group of ultra conservatives in his party who are especially intent on exacting some spending cuts in this negotiation. That's to come. Chris says the government can use some alternative accounting measures for a while, but this could have a brutal consequence of a game of chicken, turns out to be a long one. There may be two faces of Beijing's response to the COVID zero protests publicly president Xi Jinping has expressed empathy for protesters, but Bloomberg reporting says behind the scenes as many as 100 demonstrators have been detained for investigating, for instigating, I should say the demonstrations. Call today for congressional investigation of how classified documents are finding their way outside The White House, democratic congressman Adam Schiff, who is a critical part of the January 6th investigation, says the special counsels should do their work on both cases, but the Congress should also have a part in the process. I still would like to see Congress do its own assessment of and receive an assessment from the intelligence community of whether there was an exposure to others of these documents where there was harm to national security in the case of either set of documents with either president. Schiff on ABC has heard here on Bloomberg says not a partisan issue, it is a critical intelligence issue now to date 5 separate caches of classified documents have been found in different areas used by mister Biden and found and turned over to authorities. Meanwhile, U.S. House oversight chairman James comer says he's launching an investigation into whether the Biden family has gotten payments from anonymous outside interests, including China on CNN State of the Union today. There's a pattern here of anonymous sources of money flowing into the bidens pockets and Biden interest and it's very concerning. This is a national security risk. That's my biggest concern, and that's why we're pressing forward with this investigation. Calmer or Republican says Donald Trump has already been investigated, Joe Biden has not. In San Francisco, I'm Ed Baxter, this is Bloomberg. All right, back to Hong Kong, Brian. All right, Eduardo. Thank you. Let's get to Hans guti, who's a founder and CEO of HG research. Hans, if I'm if I'm trying to figure out whether or not we are sort of in a bear market rally here in S&P 500 equities, when I look at the moving averages, the S&P 500 is right at the it's just barely above the 200 day moving average. However, if I look at RSP, which is equal weight stocks in the S&P 500, it's busted above it. It's a very convincing move. So how do I reconcile that? Sure, absolutely right. It's a convincing move by the S&P on a non weighted basis. What has held up the S&P itself has been weakness in the big tech stocks, which of course have a huge weighting in the index, but underlying there is some optimism. I think the market is now starting to look beyond the valleys or essentially see what the fed is going to do. Still raising rates, of course, but the pace is slowing. And at some point, there will pivot when that will be we don't know. Our guests would be that was going to happen when the economy slows down further. Maybe we see a deterioration in the labor market on the that will be the case we don't know, maybe middle of the year, maybe third quarter or something. But the market seems to look towards that. Hans good morning, you're seeing U.S. recession as a virtual certainty and we rarely hear that sort of conviction, including these calls on will they or won't they achieve the soft landing. It sounds like you're pretty confident that they won't. Why are you so confident the U.S. is headed for a downturn and what data even if not your base case would change your mind on that? Well, I mean, if you look at the data, I mean, first of all, we have an inverted yield curve, which is pretty steeply inverted number two, you have money supply in real terms, actually coming down, and on top of that, you have a Central Bank that is still tightening into this environment. And that, of course, will have a lag effect on the economy. It's not making itself immediately, but there's a lag, maybe a 6 to 12 months. And we have not seen the full impact yet. So I think that that is something we have to bear in mind. There's a risk that the fed, if they continue, even at the slower pace, if they continue that they over tight, and then at the end of the day, you will end up with a much lower economy than they have to do in about. So that's my concern. I'm looking more or less at the yield curve as a big indicator. Hans have been talking to you for a long time, so I really pay attention to what you're saying. And I have to say, even with your comments about recession likely, you're sounding more positive now than you did the last few times you were on this program. And is it because once we get to recession, the market will bottom. But then it's usually pretty good from there forward. Are you starting to turn more positive on global equities? Well, usually the market bottoms in the middle of a recession and you may not be there yet. So I think that's why I'm saying we may retest the lows that we saw sometime last year. But then again, the history suggests that two years of down markets are relatively rare. They have occurred, but not very often. So what we're seeing here is possibly a market with a lot of volatility at the moment sentiment seems positive. It seems to have a little bit further to go, but there could be a pull back. And a lot of volatility during the year, maybe at the end of the year, and pretty much where we are right now. So that's what I'm worried about, that you have a lot of volatility in between which can whip so investors. So the answer to my question, Michelle was no, I'm not getting all that positive. Go ahead and shelf. Let me go back to the other factors that you're watching Hans of course the yield curve, real money supply growth. If I can turn it as an economics reporter back to sort of

A showdown is coming between President Biden and the U.S. and the Republican controlled House of Representatives over the looming debt ceiling deadline later this week on ABC's this week has heard here on Bloomberg senator Raphael Warnock says severe damage of the economy could occur if something is not worked out. The last thing we ought to be doing is playing chicken with the American economy. He says, a people who are on the margins who are the most vulnerable are those who would suffer the most. There may be two faces of Beijing's response to the COVID zero protests publicly, president Xi Jinping, a Xi Jinping expressed empathy for the protesters, but Bloomberg's reporting says behind the scenes as many as 100 demonstrators have been detained for instigating the demonstrations. There's a pattern here of anonymous sources of money flowing into the bidens pockets and Biden interest and it's very concerning. This is a national security risk. That's my biggest concern, and that's why we're pressing forward with this investigation. Calmer or Republican says Donald Trump has already been investigated. Joe Biden has not. In San Francisco, I'm Ed Baxter, this is Bloomberg, Brian. All right, thanks very much, Ed, 9 minutes here, pass the hour, let's get to our guest Kamal street Kumar, president at Sri Kumar global strategies. Should we thanks very much for being with us. So we've got the yield on the tenure down at three and a half percent. That seems to be a little out of step with what the fed has been saying and indeed what it has been doing. But I put it to you and I know you'll disagree. That it seems like it's the fed fighting the markets more than the markets fighting the fed. And the fed right now, the fed is fighting the market. I don't disagree with you on that. Brian, I think the question is, who eventually succeeds and when the fed has the fight with the market and the market repeatedly says to the fed to back off, now is the results going to be an adverse market fallout. That to me is much more important than who wins this battle. In terms of the fed losing out right now, I don't disagree with you on that at all. That's exactly what I was going to ask you. You know, do you think at the end of the day that it is the fed at the moment, perhaps not getting it right? What are the chances of it now being on the verge of a big policy mistake? Here is what let's follow that logic through. If the right now we are waiting for the January 31st February 1st, federal open market committee meeting. And they expectation increasingly is that it is going to be only a 25 basis point increase and then in the march increase and march meeting and in the 25 basis point or no increase at all. If that's the case, the markets are going to be off to the races, the demand is going to increase substantially the wage pressure which was slowly coming down is going to increase. All of that means that yes, January February March, you have some good results in the market, but if the fed reduces out, then it is eventually going to be very negative for investors. That will be safe to make. It's not really a case of the fed winning with a market winning. It's the data that will win. And so what we're talking about here is whether or not the fed is more attuned to what the data will say or if the market is figuring it out. And I think a lot of people right now are at a standoff. It's not like we're having these wild, crazy days of upside, the S&P 500 was up four tenths of a percent. We're up last week, but we were down four weeks in a row before that. So it's not like things are going crazy, but don't you agree that it's the data that will eventually hold sweat. The data will eventually hold sway, Brian, but look at what the market has done relative to the fed throughout 2021 when the fed talked about inflation being transitory. The markets bought it. And the markets continued to go up and sorry. Good point. Very good point. So the market essentially would following the data, the data suggested to me anyway that inflation had staying power, but the market didn't believe it in the fed didn't believe it. So the two of them were on the same site, but they were wrong. Data one and the fed and the markets lost. The point here is, what do the data tell you

"How, when China was strictly putting COVID under control, they accused isolation and trying to open up. And then I had a chance to finally open up the demanding PCR test for Chinese passengers. Yeah, I mean, what do we know about the extent of the wave of infections in China at the moment? We have been talking about a peak or a surge rather in infections in recent weeks is that still the case? Well, yeah, I mean, definitely, in Shanghai, I think it was still in the midst of the surge. Beijing may be close to peaking, just got it earlier. But in terms of the actual numbers, we had been getting officially three to 4000 cases a day, which sort of flies in the face of everything we've seen in herd. And even what the provinces have been reporting. I mean, the fuzziness about all this data is probably the reason why China's national health commission is going to stop publishing daily case numbers. And CDC is going to release numbers, but only on a monthly basis. What we do know, though, is that nearly 18% of the population roughly about 248 million people likely contract with the virus in the first 20 days of December and that's according to the minutes of an internal meeting that the NHC held recently. Also, I mentioned that the provinces would judge young province, which was Nick to Shanghai, confirmed that it has more than 1 million daily infections and expects that number to peak at 2 million. Absolutely staggering numbers when you think about the number of people infected with the virus, Alan WAN in Shanghai, thanks so much for bringing us up to date on the latest on that story. Let's get back to leann garran's now for more on our top stories, Leanne. Stephen, good morning to you and thank you. Tesla's tumble has accelerated with the stock falling 11% yesterday. It is now on the longest losing streak since 2018 and down some 70% in 2022, the latest plunge follows a report of a plan to temporarily hold production at its China factory that has rekindled fears about demand risks, Tesla has now fallen out of the top ten most valuable companies on the S&P 500. Now for FTX customers have sued in bankruptcy court in hopes of being the first in line to recover some of the billions lost in the meltdown of Sam bankman freed's digital asset empire. They have asked a judge to rule that they holdings belonged to them rather than to FTX. Meanwhile, separate call papers show that bankman freed and former FTX executive Gary Wang borrowed over half a $1 billion from Alameda research to buy an almost 8% stake in Robin Hood markets. And Southwest Airlines canceled almost two thirds of its flight yesterday, still hobbled by the mass of winter storm that is blanketed much of the U.S. in a deep freeze. Southwest planes to operate only about one third of its schedule for the next several days, city analyst estimate that the disruptions could shave up to 5% from the airline's fourth quarter earnings. The commission did not provide a reason for the change in policy in a statement on Sunday, but said that the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention will release COVID related info for studies and reference. Some Chinese cities have reported daily infections that far surpass the official tally, adding to doubt of the number provided by the NHC, Bloomberg reports as many as 248 million people likely contracted the virus in the first 20 days of December. Look, Don lemon, little Donnie lemon, still on the night show before he joins his girlfriends on the morning show at CNN. Which by the way is the lowest rated show they have on CNN, but I digress. I want you to take a listen to how all that went down cut 7. Can you tell us what this is and what effect the climate change has on this phenomenon? Well, we can come back and talk about climate change at a later time. I want to focus on the here and now. We think the rapid intensification is probably almost done. There could be a little bit more intensification as it still over the warm waters of the eastern Gulf of Mexico, but I don't think we're going to get any more rapid intensification. If you look here, you can actually see pretty interesting for your viewers. You can actually see a second eyewall forming around the inner eye wall, and that's basically the second eyewall is overtaken the original eyewall. And that should arrest development. Listen, I'm just trying to get there. You said you want to talk about climate change, but what effect does climate change have on this phenomenon that is happening now? Because it seems these storms are intensifying. That's a question. I don't think you can link climate change to any one event. On the whole on the cumulative climate change may be making storms worse, but to link it to any one event, I would caution against them. Okay. "You know the heritage of you know. I'm sure your dad was taking to two racists from an early age you know. it's funny. I thought about that. On what would steve ask me. What kind of questions. And i thought about that question. And it's really simple. You'd have to pick your strategy whether it's gonna be like mr arsenault and just bomb bam bam bombs away and then just stick to it. Whatever it is i mean i. I've learned over the years You know that i. I've now developed my own strategy. It's a little bit different than my dad's a little bit different. That sally sally were pedigree related. You know my dad relies on the computer and and analytics a lot more You gotta find your own what you're comfortable with and that's but it's it's about but it is like we started out it's about grinding you really do have to grind it out you and it does seem even though we do get i First time participants that that make it. You know all the way to the to the final table for instance. Jason phillips was a first-time qualifier Completely travis allison was a first-time qualifier. As was paul calia. The three then make the final table. That's not unusual but it it it is. It is a difficult confrontation. You get there The of people talk about it being kind of sensory overload overwhelming and so experienced does go a long way and and and it's a lot of it is also mental. Because you know i got into this. Nhcd through the what. I call the losers club. I did not win a tournament the whole year. In order to qualify. I'm already double qualify for january. We get to do this again. Five months amazing so you know one. Two tournaments i played thursday. Did very well on thursday. Didn't get a second seat for for this one. But i and so go into going into friday. I had a lot of confidence i mean. I've won within the last. I think i want to within the last two months you know and then to do well thursday. I was mentally ready to go so it was. It was great. Chris goodall everybody and a terrific run Best finish to date Third and one hundred and fifty thousand dollars later and That makes you that much hungrier for for january for the next next. Go around. Absolutely absolutely. Chris what a treat. I am so glad. I saw you on yesterday. Heading home. rest of the trip was okay. At restaurants trip was great. Steve you're great voice for the industry. It's an honor to be on. I wanted to earn it. I wanted to learn it. I'm glad to have done. Well done chris. Thank you so much. Chris goodall everybody all right. Take care you got it chris. Paul and we'll stay with this theme. At least for the first part of the conversation. Because nick tammaro is standing by and we know that we know that next preferred contest. Is the bbc bbc. But he's he's a good sport gums the vegas he has fund and enjoys being there deck of morning. Steve how are you. i'm good. i'm good i. We actually ended up getting a chance to sit on sunday. You handed out about four thirty but You know. I'm sure you were keeping tabs. What the what was your send up of This and h c experience over the last thing. You're you're loyal listeners. need to hear me. they got plenty of that along the way but Yeah it was great. I mean look at it ended up in many ways being the most interesting any c- of all time where there was movement in a leaderboard. There was a fleet change. I guess like four times including into the last race which you generally don't see and i think the the slightly different track offerings while they may have inhibited us a little bit on saturday during the day. They actually made for a pretty interesting slate on sunday and a lot of that has to do with the fact that on sunday in the winter you know with due respect to the people at santa anita in golden gate that time of year. The field generally aren't as robust but they were with del. Mar being in the mix and there were some deep in competitive races at saratoga on this as well leading into it so you know it's i mean the way you feel about the nfc is the way you feel about. The there are people that are going to say you know so a guy on the nhcd that took a horse that he didn't really like but he also played the game right and and just a mystery was smart and taking a shot to win. He said exactly the right thing which is when. Are you going to get an opportunity to win that kind of money. You have to take it. So i don't blame him one bit and And i commend him for having the nerve to do so and it worked out. you know. it doesn't always play out that way but for him it did. And this is seven times going in its event for me. And i feel like i learned something each time Other than which places to eat. Which i done quite well.

Rosario wrote a winner for david in holly wilson on a horse for vladimir syringe. Where would you think you were. That's that totally california Of course the wilson's have been with the with surrend for years and years And i i texted ron anderson to ask i said you know i went looking at some wilson winners at del. Mar the last fifteen years. And i couldn't find joel. Had ever won for them at del mar. I thought that would be a cool parallel. But he he really didn't ride for serena west. Jose cuevas is handling the horses for syringe in new york. And of course Long associated with bobby frankel and so Ron rod said the rosario has been getting on horses for the syringe barn because of the tight relationship with jose so that explained it. But i just it was such a california Set of connections that made me smile. hope to make everybody smile as we get ready for the weekend and when you go play some bats and Dave greenwich is going to join us. I as we talked. Travers of course and everything that comes with it the showcase day today Which is a nice card and see if they've got any anything he wants to slip in about that James scully scully. Always comes for travers and he is in saratoga. So we'll get a set of opinions from james hammer is on his way getting on his way. Not sure if he's in the car yet six fifteen if he's on his way yet to kentucky downs but It'll be in the car soon enough so we'll check in with hammer and speaking of contests i know. He'll want to the the big kentucky downstairs championship that they're that they're doing again. This year the national turf handicapping champion Three contests so six days thirteen seats three. Bbc's and a hundred thousand added an additional twenty five thousand four the biggest combined six day bankroll so incentive to play in In all six cards and also thaw three desk jape ribbon at the top of our two. And i didn't have from ed but i imagined adult. Turn up you're going to. you're going to get. I think a pretty special pretty special travers preview at about eleven. Because i'm going to turn it over when nick tammaro comes down and Would nick turns up. Will we'll put him on with andy. Excuse me andy serving. Who's doing plenty of work You know he's a. He's isolated for a week on kobe protocol and but he said i said yesterday i said the the up for a for any gabbing he said. Do you want me to do the whole show. He's i think he's climbing the walls a little bit and i can understand it. So andy and nick tamra do like a stakes talking horses for you In the third hour and And we expect. Mike welsh as well so robust travers weekend preview. And it's not just drivers we wanna slip in you know many anything else that As we mentioned yesterday with that air exhibiting visit the charleston classic action tonight. "As far as people people who've been vaccinated incidentally mississippi does seem to be the lowest senator of the seventy that means. That's part of that is kids that That's the saddest part for me that the that the one part of our popular one segment of our population. That doesn't need to come anywhere near this nonsense. And here they are trying to push to get the way down to what six year olds now. According to spare pitch keep in mind. People always say to yourself every time they are literally beira mental unapproved vaccine. That is being experiment on you. The biden administration intends to have mobile carriers blocked text messages that could be spreading misinformation not incorrectly. Block them or respond to them. I don't know. I think they want to censor them. They want to they want. It's anything they're going to. They're going to have a little. There's going to be a little block at the bottom of your tech saying this is if you need more cove nineteen information. Please click this button. Like facebook is doing and what platform. They can't do that. If you're using signal then m your recipient is used a signal that your messages are encrypted and your sms provider cannot read them. What about telegram. You're pretty safe there too. Yeah but i would recommend signal telegram. You telegram has a sort of social media network aspect to it as well. That signal doesn't so they're two different. Animals has groups to the problem with this though. Don't you only extremists you signal. Well everyone. That's what they're gonna say. Everyone else uses facebook. Messenger that crap off your phone people. That would a piece of garbage get that off. Get that app off your phone. Don't use it. were there people. There that are objecting to secession. No not very many they. They did a a hand raising and i couldn't. I didn't think anyone failed to raise their hand when they asked which people. Which have you our favorite in favor of it. You know pretty much. Raise their hands and dave. I know you follow this. You're one of the fans of the nhc free or any out of us kind of movements any exit. I think you might have been calling it recently. What's the status of this. Are there any state reps. Who are willing to kind of take up the mantle. Take up the issue and and put something forward or are they all still to chicken Caleb dire started crafting legislation a few years ago and didn't didn't submit it He's a state rep. My what i want. What i'm advocating for is that a bill will be submitted that lets people vote but the taxpayers must be reimbursed for the cost of having to bill hurt so i will not ask for a bill. I'm not gonna call it the state rep and asked to submit a bill at taxpayer expense. Unless i'm willing to fund the two thousand dollars it costs to to do that. I don't have the money so it costs two thousand dollars to get a bill read. I didn't even know that. Yeah but i could. If i wanted to. I could just pick up the phone and call probably ten reps or so and one of them would say yeah. I'll do that. Also that and submit something similar to what they've got in texas where they have a piece of legislation that came before committee. At least let's finally get into what macron or mccrone however you pronounce. It is what they're trying to do in france. I suspect they're doing it. I don't think they're just trying. But the story here. From variety dot com. French president emmanuel macron has announced new health rules to contain the spread of the delta variant of covid nineteen. The country is currently hosting he. Cannes film festival with thousands of guests from around the world. The key measure announced by macron will make the e u. digital covid certificates commonly called the health. Pass mandatory in cultural venues. So they already have the health pass. Yes and i have another story about the health. Passage sort of briefly goes over what it is and how widespread it's going to be twenty one out of the twenty. Seven nations are already connected to the network and six more are technically ready so all twenty seven of the eu nations are expected to be on board with this health. Pass as of Effectively there if you're in europe you're going to be stuck there if you don't get out now and you don't want to get vaccinated. Yeah i don't know if they're going to let you leave. That's a good question france and they're they're restricting travel. Right they are. Yeah and i'll get into what the health past does here. As far as there may be a way around getting vaccinated. You might be able to show that you've taken a test or the your immune or like some other options. Your health isn't any of the government's business. I mean there are literally laws on the books at least in the united states saying that your health is between you and your doctor well. That's changing gradual implementation. Period is in place with a grace period running until august twelfth for those few countries that are not yet ready. As of july first during this period other states should accept national documents on the condition they contain data required at european level. The launch comes under the cloud of the delta variants which then go on some fearmongering there. How does it work. The entire phrase is fearmongering. There's no way this is the fourth variant of covid nineteen. Just just think back of the new stories that we've covered over the last sixteen seventeen months. There have been many variants. i've heard of other ones. There's no way this is only the fourth no. There's there've been other obama and whatever they gave it the scariest name they could the delta very brave new frayed brave new world so the vaccine passports or the e. u. d. c. consists of information about the individuals vaccination status test results recovery status from covid nineteen presented as a qr code. The traveler can choose to carry either a digital or paper certificate and the u. You digital covid certificate you d. C is officially known is free and should be recognized by all twenty seven. Eu countries as well switzerland lichenstein iceland norway so covid recovery and stuff like that so if you had covid nineteen do you still get the the health pass or whatever you can get the health pass in three situations whether you have been vaccinated against covid. Nineteen if you've had a recent negative test or if you're considered immune having previously contracted the disease and biden is calling for hiring more. Police cracking down on illegal guns to combat crime. Now this is another one of those those guns. This is another one of those things like with covid. Nineteen you said. If the media hadn't fearmongers would any of us had known that covid nineteen was even thing and the answer is no anyone would anybody. Who's out there listening. Would you could you. Would you tell me that violent crime is up this year. Or it's down. That's exactly what i was watching here. Exactly if you watch the news you would think that the world was about was on fire as we speak. The whole cities are burning down as we well. That's actually happening. Apparently in south africa and people are all. Yeah this country. No not here. You i mean on the fourth of july. I don't remember what i guess. It was probably fox news. They ran an article saying that. Oh there were disproportionate amount of shootings this weekend. For the fourth of july weekend it was a bloodbath and it turned out to be that there were one hundred shootings in chicago over the weekend. Which is bad. But it's normal. It's about normal for chicago. It may be a little bit like fifty sixty a day. Are we are. I'm sorry a weekend but this is different. People are out there. I mean. I don't know what their average death rate is but it wasn't it wasn't terribly unusual. But that's what we're hearing from. The media right now is that there's this violent crime rate a spree. "This is the marketplace morning report from the bbc world service on charlotte street. Patna in victoria craig. Good morning the european union is set to sign off its recovery plan later today a fund worth billions of dollars that will be used to spend on key sectors across countries in europe in a bid to revive battered economies. The idea is that greater. Investment rather than austerity can jump start economies across the block that have been ravaged by the virus but there will be caveats with countries how to commit to furthering e. y. goals like digitization and cutting carbon emissions. Spain is expected to be one of the biggest beneficiaries. Its economy contracted ten point eight percent in twenty twenty so this will be a much needed cash injection as the bbc's guy hedge co madrid explained to me earlier. What the spanish government has talked about a lot. In terms of its commitments with this money is To sustainability and modernization and the governments talked about things like urban regeneration modernizing certain sectors for example the tourism sector which makes up nearly fifteen percent of the spanish economy. Also helping smaller companies become more digitally savvy and overall sustainability of the spanish economy guy. It's not just a free for all this investment. There are caveats. Spain is going to have to commit to a number of issues. It's not going to be necessarily easy to do that as well. Can you tell us about that. They're hoping to reform the pension system. Make it more sustainable. Also the idea of making the labor market less precarious so it's not so dependent on seasons. Spain depend heavily on tourism so in the summer months. See a lot more employment than in your more in the winter. The you would like spain to address the issue of certain regions in spain. Where the economy's really struggle very much compared to for example hair madrid or the big economic hubs they want to see a more even economic development across the country and guys spain his starts to welcome back. Tourists whatsoever nyc. We're still not seeing huge arrivals but people are starting to come as the summer begins and the tourism operators here are desperate for foreign visitors because the country relies so heavily on tourism. In a normal year the country would receive around eighty million foreign visitors last year. It was way below that number. Obviously the government sees. This is transitional year and it would like something like the normal numbers of foreign visitors that we would see the eu has lifted restrictions on american visitors so that obviously is a boon for spain as well. They are one of the major markets for spain beyond the european union. The bbc's guy head coach in madrid. Thanks very much pleasure. Let's check him in. The market's european shares are off to a positive start. Investors eagerly await the federal reserve updates later today to south korea now advances in technology means say called spine cameras a tiny replaced and changing rooms hotel bedrooms or even public bathrooms not footage mostly of women. Advances in technology mean the so called spy cameras are tiny often the size of a button and can be pleased in changing rooms hotel bedrooms or even public bathrooms to secretly film a victim. The footage is downloaded on the country's high speed internet and shared online. Sometimes that a price. Covid vaccine: PM to have AstraZeneca jab as he urges public to do the same

"When johnson talks about the uk's world-beating response to covid nineteen vaccine pogrom passes muster. It's been an unqualified success or one of the reasons. His conservative party are so far ahead in the polls over twenty five million brits have received their job so fall but the government unexpectedly announced show fall in the number of vaccines delivered in april juice. Supply issues and the debate has a geopolitical angle. To given the you struggling with its own vaccine rollout slovan the line. The european commission president on the block might even consider export controls. All options are on the table. We are in the crisis of the century. And i'm not ruling out any anything for now because we have to make sure that europeans are vaccinated as soon as possible so sarah. Let's begin with the overall state of the uk's vaccine pogrom based on what was set out in december. It's pretty much all going to plan fairly high levels of takeover ninety four percent i believe and the government is insisting that all over fifty will have had their first job by the middle of april. So what's the problem. Well a week ago we would have said. This was indeed the most Astonishingly amyloid success and a sign of vessel. Buoyant moved around it. Was that the with some very clear briefing to a couple of the saturday newspapers suggesting that we were actually going to move to the over forty's much sooner than expected so it was a bit of a jolt to find out on wednesday that in fact. Nhs people involved in the program had been told that they must hold booking any new appointments throughout april because the been a sudden very significant reduction in the supplies available so that really has put the first serious dent in the narrative which right from december the eight. I think it was the day. That william shakespeare became one of the first two vaccine as now suddenly. The government is in the unaccustomed position of having to explain what's happening and explain why some of the public expectations that they'd raised so hard may not be met to be fair to the government. They still absolutely insisting they're on track with the two big dates that they've set for this program that all over fifty should be vaccinated by the middle of april. And all adult britons. Who wants a job will have had it at the end of july. But there's no question that it's been a difficult political management problem for them this week and very much not the position that they'd hoped to be in the club. Let's have a look at why this might be happening and seven. I spent a lot of this week speaking to people. Whitehall trying to figure out exactly what was going on behind the scenes with matt. Hancock gave us a of clarity in the house of commons and the government is pinning own production issues. The first one is this batch of one point seven million jobs that we sent back for testing and the second thing is the supply from the soham institute of india which again the governor's put down to supply issues but others are saying that actions being blocked by modi's government from shipping out to the uk. Exactly it is pretty opaque what's happening. There are two elements. Here that can hold up. Supplies one is the genuinely technical difficulties in producing a complex biological process. I mean it's not straightforward zanu vaccine and a lot of the manufacturing sites haven't made this sort of marin a vaccine before it scale factor. You could say none of them have because this is the first one. That's the fiso won. The astra zeneca at novartis vaccine is also level to a complicated process. So there are technical supply issues and then there at the political ones. You alluded to and i don't know whether the serum institute of india supply has been blocked for political reasons because india was having rather a good downturn in covert cases. But that's turning up again. Unfortunately and there are feelings. That indian government wanted to have it at home. This is so. I think if we look at the context of this a lot of it is actually not that much of a serious problem that we were crunching the numbers this week and april is a significant moment in the vaccine program for the uk. Because yes they were vaccinated all over fifty which according to people like christie chief medical officer of england which uses ninety nine percents of deaths on messages the pressure on the nhc s. But eneko you have to install the second jobs. Really the po- gum began to scale up towards the end of january and eleven week window. The nhl is set between the first and second doses. That really kicks in april and but hancock said this week that really still going to be delivering about fourteen million jobs throughout april which is low though. It's been in march but it's still a pretty high number so it's probably good to keep it in context with feels really what's gone wrong. Here is expectations that the rogue briefing about forty s really feels like delivers come off the bush tourism bush. Johnson's tried to restrain for much of twenty twenty. One yes and i think some. Nhs officials were less than delighted about that huge raising expectations last weekend. In a way. I think this was always going to be a difficult point for the program. It was absolutely predictable that at the point at which second doses to scale up there was going to be a deep in first doses. So it's perhaps unfortunate that there wasn't more subtle public preparation. You're absolutely right international standards even in april. We're still going to be doing more. Vaccinations than many of our counterparts. So it's particularly unfortunate wasn't better preparation. Because i think in the minds of a lot of britain's the will now be a sense of this program isn't doing well it's stumbled. It didn't have to be this way that it could have been very differently presented. And after all as i said the government is still on track to meet those two deadlines that it says now clive. We need to put this in the context of europe as well and we heard from s. the von d'alene at the top. That and you still really struggling with its vaccine vo loud but the most baffling things. She's seen this week. Is the story about the astra zeneca job and how effective or side effects. That may have in this concern. Over blood clots we heard from the ama from the nhra in the uk from the world health organization. All saying there are no concerns about blood. Clots and ashes annika vaccine yet at didn't stop lawson countries from halting giving out the doses. It's a very complicated picture on side effects. At least the spotlight turned away from efficacy. Before countries in continental europe were worrying that the astrazeneca vaccine wouldn't work well enough to older people. I think the efficacy questions have more or less be answered now. The spotlight is on whether they're adverse side effects and a few of those have been discovered there. These two different sorts of blood disorders do with abnormal clotting thrombosis that have been detected in people who just been vaccinated in norway in germany elsewhere on continental europe. The numbers are tiny. I would say fewer than twenty around the continent. Investigation is still continuing. There's no proven link with the vaccine. But a lot of vaccine knowledge ists the might be a link. But that is no reason to stop the vaccination program when it's saving tens of thousands of lives probably and people have said that just by halting for a few days the astrazeneca vaccination and continental europe. This week until the european medicines agency said it was okay that would have cost lives. It loves cost lives directly because people weren't getting vaccinated and it also probably unfortunately of cost lives indirectly because all the publicity about ad side effects will just undermined confidence in the vaccine

"Protests people with signs and a little bit of chanting and a little bit speaking Nothing like crazy no instead his house on fire or anything like that. There's what three i think in total They passed this thing that said there would be no picketing outside of residential houses. I think it was. I don't have the language in front of me but something to that effect so clearly we need to be bringing the consequences to these people and there was actually some interesting discussion at a at a recent meet up. I won't say who it was. That was talking about this. But there was talk about expanding. the visits from. Just the governor's house to a bunch of these worst of the worst state representatives the ones who are sponsoring some of the most tyrannical legislation in regards to this To target them. Because do you only have so many cops now. Obviously there's cops in the towns but there's state police well and it's been the state. Apparently biden's been freaking out about this so course if you wanna congress he has. He's all about the democratic narrative. Which has that masks were you. Can't you even have the leader of the satanic temple. Going off on people telling them he wishes they were dead. Because they're against the mask mandates. "Third tropical storm of the season is raining down on parts of the Mexican coast and it could get stronger as it moves north toward the Gulf coast in the next couple of days tropical storm Cristobal is off the coast of southeastern Mexico for now its predicted path is northward and that might include Louisiana but it is too soon to pinpoint its exact path says Dennis feltgen at the national hurricane center so interest in those areas all they need to do right now is monitor the progress of the system through the week and make sure they have their hurricane plan in place that would entail gathering food water medication and supplies and have an idea of where to evacuate or how to
