"Thing is already on track that'd be put into to to. Application here in the next year or so. So I see muddy the waters with this idea of. Hey. Now, we're entitled to fifty percent of the revenue. That's just ridiculous as a business owner that that's not going to happen in any entity and and certainly that's not going to happen college football. It is interesting had in the NCAA had the foresight to do. Name, likeness and Imager name image likeness. However, you want to call it a couple years ago. How would the season be debt now as opposed to when the kids don't have that right to make a couple extra bucks and then quote unquote the the Pr of it is, Oh, they're being forced to play, which is clearly not the case you can follow. NCAA board of governors could cancel conference championships

"The board of Governors set to meet again today on a conference call with the subject of Canceling championships and fall sports will be discussed. It's expected the board will table any discussion involving Division one athletics for the time being. But the board could cancel fall championships for schools in Division two and three, and that would be bad news for local schools like Wayne State Fair ST Lawrence Tech who compete at that

ACC schedule includes Notre Dame, 10 conference games

"We're pleased to be joined. Now by our colleague NAP Fortuna nobody's more plugged in AC and also Notre Dame who is now at least for one football season a member of the ACC we were just talking a little bit offline map, but it's been kind of a whirlwind where this meeting of the president's for for Wednesday we knew about it for. A while and they were gonNA have poor. I. Was they're gonNa vote on one of few schedule models and then the day before it became no, they're not ready to vote. It's GonNa get pushed back a week and then all of a sudden band with almost no warning there was a full press release with the whole schedule model on everything. What happened. Like everything else when it comes to college football news amid pandemic I think everyone is learning things from anyone other than the primary source. So to speak I mean this was a rare case where a reported him break this story that the League was able to put this story out on its own terms and I think. Being that this was a president driven decision that probably shouldn't be too surprising because those guys are the ultimate. Shock collars when it comes to weather there will there won't be football. This fall but. Athletic Directors were not on that Board of Governors meeting call today they had. Kept them abreast of what they were talking about him models and so forth. But. As you said, I mean I was told as recently as yesterday. Tuesday that. The eighties were not ready to present a model that they were ready to go with just in light of the MARLINS fiasco with the. MLB. On Monday the evergreen situation going on there they still wanted to to to flesh things out and. figure out what the best approaches and I do think it's the irony of all ironies that as soon as the ACC puts out this press release, our friend Ross Stellar over sports illustrated has a report in the SEC is going to go conference only which. In many ways I can't help but think contradicts what the ACO is trying to accomplish right when they want to keep that one non-conference late open. Matt. Let me ask you this. So, as part of this deal Notre Dame is gonNA share the TV revenue from its home games with the rest of the members. How how big of a concession is that for them and was you? had been a stumbling block before and what do you think was in jacks bricks mind when when this kind of deal was presented to him I think operating under the assumption here for the sake of this conversation that there will be a season. I. I think that's a pretty big concession Notre Dame that's a deal as a private school that. Is Not public. We don't know the details I mean we. A. Very strong. I guess if you will that it's in the range of fifty million dollars or so and that it's significantly less than what they would be getting. From TV rubbing new distribution standpoint if they had joined the conference fully but I don't think that's a small matter that Notre Dame is is all in on the ACC at least for this year that they will be sharing that revenue in that they'll be you know. Frankly the big picture first time in one, hundred, Fifty, eight years of Notre, dame football they're going to interest season competing for a conference championship I mean that's that's very very. Big Ding even say finishing third place right they don't even come close to qualifying for they see if the season goes on just the fact that we're saying that that Notre Dame fans are reading that in hearing that and learning that about their school today I. think that is a very, very big headline when you talk about the Notre Dame, not just as program Business Itution, it's extraordinary I don't think you can understate how I mean they're they're the it's one of those issues or or griping points that. For my whole career I mean it's just been a constant. Why won't they join a conference? Somebody should force them to join a conference and then a permanent obviously but something finally. Put them in a position where they. Had to join a conference and I don't know the giving away the TV money. You know I don't I don't have the numbers, but that could end up being awash because they don't make that much from NBC and if they also get to now get a bigger share a full share of the you know the larger. ACC, ESPN deal I mean for all we know. They're making more money out of it. I don't know but the fact that they. So how how you know the Notre Dame fan base like how are they going to be feeling about this? There's the independence is such a point of pride obviously. But also if they didn't do this, there was a decent chance they were gonNA, end up with like a six game schedule. I think the initial reaction will be surprised in disappointment. Now, those feelings may linger throughout the course of this twenty twenty football season or they could be gone Tuesday when the Board of Governors of the NCAA makes a ruling on. How if and how the season will proceed and I can't help but think I may sound cynical here. But part of me wonders if it in the back of the decision makers minds at Notre Dame, they know what? Like the silent part is out loud. So to speak, they just don't think that season it's going to be feasible and if it makes everyone happy. Everything copacetic to just say, yes and concede to have everyone move forward in as unified of a front as possible under one umbrella as the ACC. then. They were willing to do that and maybe could. Bank that goodwill on the back end, I don't know that. That's me kind of theorizing here digging out loud. But I do think that headlined just seeing the press release seeing Notre Dame eligible for a conference title game I think that is a not insignificant. It's just like you said it's a conversation it's a question. I it's taken up. You know a chapter of your book God knows how many hours of our time on twitter at a mailbags and so forth t to hear the words Notre Dame, and let's say, Hey, you know they do play Clemson on their schedule and it's No divisions US here. So the top. Winning percentage teams go hypothetically. They could lose the CLEMSON and beat Clemson or be Clemson lose clemson. For the ACC title, I'm just picturing right now they're hockey team is currently the back to back big ten champions I'm trying to picture a big time championship. A banner. Compton. Ice Pavilion. A right down the road from an ACC championship banner at Notre Dame Stadium if the season out there, and if they were to to win the League because that would be pretty pretty funny. It would seem like it would make them more likely though for this to at some point, be permanent because I the argument I've always heard is nor named loves the aspect of of the uniqueness of not being. like everybody else, and at least for this year with all the craziness that's going on, they're going to be like everybody else to a large degree and find out they really. Like, Hey, this is cool. Seriously

They had been expected to cancel the fall championship. That's all of the other sports that are played in the fall. They were under severe pressure by the power, five commissioners and others not to do it, so they have kicked. That can down the road, but. they will ultimately vote and They are not expected to send a good message. So The their next meeting is August four.

Conversation With Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson

"Delighted to welcome. To our program, a very important guests at this unbelievably strange time from the Mountain West Conference Commissioner Craig Thompson Commissioner thank you very very much for making the time I I, I can only imagine what your schedule is like. These days especially Zoom Bill Assuming there is one good afternoon. Paul good to be with you. You know I hope to mode no more about The next ninety minutes to two hours I have a four o'clock board calling five o'clock standing Monday de call, so we all compare notes and Kinda live by that old adage. God gave us two ears and one off for a reason, right? We're trying to learn from each other. Well we appreciate you making time I'm curious before we get down to some of the obvious questions Since, this occurred you. You've been very obviously active in in the NCAA, basketball tournament, having chaired the the men's basketball committee, and it all started there, and and I know in in your many many years is as commissioner. You've experienced so much but How do you? How do you prepare yourself for something like this? which is literally off the charts. Really is and you know again you don't because. no-one there might have been a few people worldwide They'd be well into their hundreds that were around nineteen eighteen. Spanish flu days, but For the most part, nobody's dealt with any of this Paul. So it's all new, and and it's It's disconcerting. It's hard. It's sad, but it's It's life and it's something we. We have to adjust to and and moved from. In as you get closer to what are really critical decisions, other conferences have made these choices many have not What what do you weigh as you're about to go onto? Another call here how how do you determine these things? Well, it's really got to beat a the safety and the health soccer you I think it's simply going to come down to what is the risk tolerance for for all the various groups just within our FBI subdivision and certainly there's. A rank and file and differences between the autonomous five leaks and a group of five leaks, but You've got you've got. A ton of governors. There's fifty state governors in that up BS group, one hundred thirty board of trustees, regions, one hundred thirty university presidents and Chancellors hundred thirty athletic directors under thirty head, football coaches, and I guarantee it dollar on the same page, and so you know we're. We're just trying to adjust on what makes the most sense for my university and ultimately our conferences. And everyone has a different set of circumstances as you said Commissioner Thompson but. It is late I think you know that we all we all know that. As you are about to go on these calls here in the next hour or two How do you start narrowing the window and coming to? Conclusions! Well we all kind of went into that false pretense and hope that fans should be better in July and August and we had time right back in March. We had four months to figure this out when we've got probably less than four weeks. A couple of weeks a big date coming up on Friday with you know the the six week period starting extended team practices, and then most camps opening somewhat in that August seventh time friend I! I had a good exchange with one of our head. Football coaches today saying you know I don't even know what to do. Because of campus regulations and concerns, we have one institution that's had nearly one hundred football players for little over a month. Now Paul and we have another institution that literally has no football players, conditioning of or working out degree, and so you know we're all over the map based on a local and university, muncipality rules and regulations and. I said this for months gone on standby. One of one of the big concerns and focal points for us is the state of California They just announced today that they're going to delay. The start of their prep season suggested until December or January didn't give an exacting, and they join a couple of states that the prep seasons have been canceled altogether one of our states New Mexico, so just just trying to deal with all the nuances and differences in rules, policies and allowances. As you as you try to deal with with some some issues before that certainly, the non-conference issues a lot of non conference. Games have been scrubbed. I. Has that been a major issue for you or Were you in reasonably good shape. Well it is a big issue, and of course years of all years. This is our twenty seven season A. We had more home games against PAC twelve than any time in our previous 21-year-history, we lost home games. Ucla at both. San Diego State ally. Utah, Colorado Washington state calendars on a state. They were GONNA play at the new two billion dollar NFL stadium in Las Vegas against UNLV so a lot of people like to point to that financial loss of losing the the six road at twelve games and a and a guarantee. Those seven home games from from both of financial interest level, and then ultimately you know television perspective CBS. Fox Aren't real thrilled. You know that we lost those seven home games. Talking to the Commissioner of the Mountain West Craig Thompson discussing all the variables. Commissioner. We. We've talked to so many different commissioners over these past few months, and as you as you so eloquently pointed out a minute ago. Everyone has a different set of circumstances and challenges you maybe more than than most because of the geographical aspect. But how do you think and it shouldn't be that hard to think about it since it's not far off? How how do you ultimately come up with what you would say? Good solution, not only for your member institutions, but for the safety of the athletes. Well again. You not to lean on your medical people and that's one of the. Major aspects of this board call coming up in an hour, so Paul because It's the first time that they in a while. They've heard directly from the the medical advisory group and you know they don't depend on them. You know they. They are the experts, will we? The board are economists and Then different walks of life. They're not medical people, per se, and so you know you really have to lean heavily on what makes sense I. I said four months ago and I I contend today. A lot of this is going to be perhaps probably triggered by what happens on our campuses. What they look like in the next month or so you know everybody's either hybrid mostly online You know there's GonNa. Be Certainly people walking around campus, but you know you. You really can't expect to have a college athletics if you don't have a fairly open in some degree. Campus. Commissioner I, it's no secret Wherever conferences are located and and and spread that football pays the majority of the bills there. There's some outliers of course but What's at stake you just from a revenue standpoint? Well you know. Let's all kinds of figures in I I know that A couple of our department said have lost Well in excess of ten million dollars now, and then could jump into without football alum Paul you know double and triple, and you know those are not insignificant numbers. They're smaller than the world. You live in I lived in Atlanta. For four years. New Orleans for twelve years both children born in New Orleans and well versed in an SEC football, and what it means in a walk of life, and so it's different, no question it's different I live in Colorado and and what it's like in Western states, but but none the less. You, do not escape whatever love your Ad. That football is probably that you know eighty eighty five percent of of an athletic budget, and and so it's so very important, but you know as harmful as painful rather as it is from the financial perspective now that cannot be the driving force won't be the driving force. It will be that the health and safety it'll be university decisions. You know I've always. Always felt. The presidents of universities and chances have an extremely difficult position now more so than ever because they're pushed him pulled in and all these different directions and you know I. Don't know how the decision will. Ultimately made would fall looks like from terms of football. I don't know who makes that decision, but Hopefully they'll be some clobbering collective. Let's let's go right to the College Football playoff. Can you even imagine a world where pick a number? Three conferences can play in the fall and seven up to play in the spring. What happens to see a p.? Is there a CFP? Does that make sense to have a CFP? I guess it might depend on those three conferences are and I use. You know you, you're GONNA have to look at this for for the good of everybody, and and you know the collaboration and collective exchange and we've seen conferences. Do things unilaterally I mean as a commissioner. You Work for twelve schools. You don't work for honored thirty FBI schools, and so you're doing what's right, and what's your membership is is directing and advise you to do, but we do have to get together and get the same page in some regards spor for the sake of the CFD for instance and the bowl system. I know at least I'm told in talking to your colleagues commissioners. We wind down. I know you've got a lot of meetings to that. You are a collaborative group. I mean that's a fact. I mean we see that all the time but it but I wonder though. Because we've already seen some some. Some schisms as we had the big ten, and then everyone else said something else I mean the PAC twelve and the big ten, and do you. Are you concerned about the stability of of what you do every day and try to work with everyone else within the framework of college athletics. I am and I'm not I mean again. We try to work together, but at the end of the day our plan for fourteen or ten members, order media have will dictate. What direction are leagues go and I know the NCAA takes a ton of shots, but the NCAA is membership driven. It's schools that are that are ultimately making decisions and the conferences the exact same way, so you know we can compare but I. I am concerned about The postseason college football, the the CFC's a five hundred million dollar enterprise NCAA. Basketball Championship is a six hundred million dollars in a prize number of conferences of two hundred and fifty to three hundred million dollar annual TV, contracts, and and we can't go ten I don't well. Yeah, anything's possible. You could go ten separate ways I. certainly don't think it's going to be that way at the end of the day. Commissioner will let you get back to your meetings, but thank you for making time. It was just a pleasure to to hear your perspective as someone who is so well respected. And revered in this industry we be well and let's hope for some good news. Stay safe yourself my friend.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey says “critical decisions” will be made later this month

"Has been a much anticipated day. When it became known that the SEC was going to meet in person, in Birmingham, today it had been a regular scheduled meeting, but regardless it was extraordinary. It is now over the SEC has just released. A statement! Saying that no decisions were made today about the upcoming college football season. We hope to get more on that from the Commissioner of the southeastern. Conference Greg Sankey, commissioner? Thank you very much. I know it has been. A Very Long. Day Good afternoon. Has Been that and right from a meeting to the Finebaum show what could be a better way to cap a busy busy Monday. Well I, we've all we've I've I've read your statement about Hoping to gain more information or Waiting at least. To the end of the month and I'm curious based on what you have been saying. In terms of the prospects of the season and the concerns and the fact that things. You said the other day you, you're running out of time to correct things What are you looking for? And what are you? What is your conference looking for over these next two to three weeks? That will help you. Identify the proper decision to move forward. There are any number of. Opportunities to learn which is the way we've always viewed What was it play out, so we'll go back to April. One of the guiding points and I think I've shared with you this. This comment from one of our faculty members is take as long as you can to make major decisions because you will have better information. so my comments last week over the weekend on Mardian McGee or an indication that the trends. Are Not what we desired not what we had experienced a bit earlier in the summer very much in the wrong direction, and that that's problematic. That doesn't mean that's the finish line. Things will never change. We've seen the news around cove in nineteen. alter itself in different ways over a number of weeks. And so what we've identified, it is an opportunity in late July. foreign important check in the see what our public health reality, so that's one big picture element. We were told from the beginning. Take as much time as possible. You make better decisions we've also. Experienced since June eighth the ability to support our student athletes and a very healthy way, within our athletics, programs or other activities that are permitted today, more that could come for most program beginning, July twenty fourth, which NCAA is permitted third point, the autonomy, five conferences have been working diligently now for weeks and months to develop a common testing expectation. Expectation an isolation expectation. The NCAA after the Senate Commerce Committee hearing in which I participated in Washington DC has been engaging in developing similar standards for its entire membership, but his worked collaboratively over the last eight or nine days I think we're moving towards a destination for those protocols and I know that we as five conferences have been working diligently our. Our colleague conferences at the bowl subdivision. Or awaiting those other others in Division One are also waiting those expectations. The fourth is all it's happening. In the return of sports at the professional level over the next few weeks, so we saw major league soccer I watch more major league soccer last night than I. Ever have in my life, but I've read their protocols. Major League Baseball's active. That's A. First Pitch I think July twenty third where teams are going to be moving around. We've read their health protocols. A NASCAR race Wednesday, that is in a what was a football stadium several years ago in Bristol Tennessee with thirty thousand fans in attendance first time to see a larger crowd if that opportunity still exists so all of those are important learning opportunities, but the fundamental is my first point, which is we have to see? See a change in public health trend to build the comfort that will have an opportunity to compete this fall and plenty of people can say Oh, you shouldn't. It's not going to happen. Make predictions, and they go back to Governor Cuomo in June. WHO said I'm done with predictions. I'm done with models. We're GONNA. Look at the facts, and that's what we've been doing diligently for months now and we'll do over the next few weeks. Commissioner Greg Sankey with this commissioner. Last week we saw a one of your colleagues in the big ten. make his decision their decision about. Playing Only Conference Games to the PAC twelve followed suit I'm certain. That was discussed today, can you? Can you enlighten us on where the SEC is on all conference play? we are not at that destination in a number of our colleague. Conferences are not at that destination, so the big ten made its decision. We have no. common games with the big ten conference this year. Just one of those realities in our schedule, so the the impact of their decision is indirect,

"If possible to to reduce the chances of players doing it we saw high profile hold out with Ezekiel. Elliott this year that worked out for him in other one. We're seeing Melvin Gordon here. That obviously obviously hasn't worked out for him yet. Teams are looking down the road. If you're the New York giants saquon Barkley in two years could be in the exact same position Ezekiel Elliott just was and you don't WanNa be in a position from where you don't have him for training camp so it's it's another issue of control right. It's not money it's control owners. Versus players and the owners in this case are seeing some control erode because of the success of these player holdouts and the willingness of these players to engage in them and they want to do something to discourage and we talk about control. You're also talking about players now. Demanding Trades Allah Jalen Ramsey says he's sick we should acknowledge that but Adam silver's dealing with this in the NBA and he says it's a scourge scourge. How are they looking at it in the NFL well yeah if it got to the point where the that's their fear is that it turns into the NBA where players can go wherever they want but I mean I think the genie's out of the bottle here I mean players understand their value on a level that they didn't use to and they recognize their power on a level that they didn't use to and if you're a star player you have some leverage and we're seeing guys is flex it. I don't think the owners will succeed. In getting draconian penalties for holdouts put into the next day and I don't think they'll succeed in convincing star players that they have to stay put just because that's what their contracts says Dan. Thank you for joining us. I pleasure thank you. We were able to exercise some right here. Get your free right here just in case now turning into basketball Monday the NCAA level charges against the University of Kansas and it's basketball program including longtime coach bill self the NCAA says Kansas is guilty of a lack of institutional institutional control language for serious violations. Bill self came out swinging response this statement saying in part no secret that there's tremendous tremendous pressure on the NCAA to respond to the Federal Court proceedings involving college basketball in its haste and attempt to regain control the enforcement staff has created a false narrative regarding knee me and our basketball program for more we welcome ESPN senior writer Mark Schlabach Mark. We can talk about bill sells define in response the response from the school itself very much the same terms of tone absolutely seating no ground here whatsoever. What does that tell us. It's about the way they're going to approach this over the course of the ninety days they have to respond Jerry. It's clear Kansas has bill selves back. They Avid coaching staff back. I think there is some skepticism not only Kansas but other places around the country that the is actually gonNA come after a blue blood programs program like the Jayhawks in the past the enforcement staff the committee on infractions as an shown a lot of teeth when it came to the most successful programs most accessible coaches inches like bill self and I think given what transpired with North Carolina with the academic standing on the lack of penalties in that case I think it is involved in a lot of schools data coaches directors to your father. Does this speak to a strategy as you suggest that look. They're not going to touch us. We mean too much then the NCAA right now is in perhaps in historically precarious position being assaulted on all sides whether you're talking about the courts sports the FBI you're talking about if not the NCAA itself but it schools in the policies at those schools. We've got legislatures. New York and California trying to pay athletes elites is feeling perhaps on the part of the schools that the NCAA's week and we don't have to bend now but I think there's an assault on amateurism the amateurs model I think there's been a massive shift in public perception that these kids should beginning paying in some cases regardless of getting out Howard getting paid you know see where it goes with these new laws in states across the country but you know talking to coaches which is around the country. They tell me you know if rules are in place we have to follow the rules for nothing else competitive balance and I think we're GONNA you know I. I think we'll just have to wait and see is not. Nothing's GonNa come to an end anytime soon. Kansas and the other schools involved in this probably aren't going to get in front of the committee on infractions until you'll next summer or a spring twenty twenty. There's a lot of silk play out if the school continues to back him to the hilt is bill self safe here are his assistant safe bill sell safe as long as they don't get hammered aw made it clear that they're going to support him and they don't think that he was intimately involved in these payments to players. There is no proof that he was was involved. There are text messages between he and Adidas consultant. TJ Gas Nala says any real guys. You can infer what you want with with that but you know it's GonNa be interesting because it's a it's an interesting strategy by insane forces staff suggested the Adidas consultants like Tj Gas Nola were boosters for Kansas. Jayhawks attorneys are GONNA attack that argument as well and of course because of the time line here. We're not expecting any ramifications on the upcoming season for the Jayhawks expected to be one of the best teams in college basketball mark. Shaw aw we always appreciate your insights. US Olympic women's ice hockey team also in the b-block today new USA Today report about the NFL and how team screen coaches for allegations ends of domestic violence or more precisely how summit failed to do so this of course against the backdrop of the League's insistence that it will hold players accountable in the post ray Rice Erin for more. We're joined by Rachel accent. She is the reporter who wrote this story and reported it for USA Today. Rachel what what is your reporting uncover about the due diligence that's taking part in the league and with individual teams certainly certainly showed that it seems to be lacking we looked into the backgrounds of NFL coaches in the league last year and we found issues with domestic violence easy easy to spot in public records and we don't did not find an excuse me a lot of due diligence on the part of the team's perfect example Schuyler Fulton who you you showed was a receivers coach for the bucks last year. He had an arrest for domestic violence. The charges were later dismissed after he completed a pretrial diversion in but the records in that case indicated multiple women expressing fear of him that he had had threatening behavior in then in two thousand sixteen exte- a few years later he was working Juku and the school there was warned about behavior that was similar to that yet when he was hired by the bucks a a few months later they don't seem to have called the coach that he worked for their and we know at least two of the women named in those records contacted as well it we're talking about. We're not just talking about a couple of examples. You wrote about several examples in your reporting again in this story in USA. Today and you ask the League you you went to Park. Have you so to speak and ask them well. What do you have to say about. These guys getting hired despite this in their backgrounds. What did they say. What was the response well. Of course we asked for Commissioner Roger Goodell he was the one who five years ago in that press conference in the wake of the where he writes case promised League would do more that it had a role to play here. They declined our interview requests for him. Ryan McCarthy a spokesman for the League told us that the vetting of coaches is entirely up to the teams they know so that they should be vetting them but how they do that there's no role for the NFL to play Brian McCarthy said I asked. Is there any sort of guidance or policy. There is not so the League has taken a very hands off approach in this area well beyond saying that it's up to the teams and they should be doing the vetting if they asked us. We'll so help them. Out was any anything else expressed about. Perhaps this isn't the way it should be done. These guys shouldn't be getting jobs in the NFL bill. Well our question was how much did they seek to know this. We don't know the answer because the team's avoided talking to us and then how did they assess it every every expert that we talked to on domestic violence including Rita Smith who is an advisor to the league said it would be best practice for these teams to seek and know as much information as they can and then they can make an assessment. Is this someone we want to be part of it. We're GONNA sation how they dealt with these issues.

"Welcome outside lines. I'm Jeremy Schaap later in the this show report on the domestic violence red flags the NFL might be missing when it comes to hiring and the NCAA takes aim at the University of Kansas but I in our big story the Washington redskins a once proud team that is now accustomed to misery this is Dan Snyder's twenty first season as the owner of a franchise that had had been one of the NFL's elite which hasn't won a home playoff game in twenty years last night. Washington fell to Owen three and was blown out by the bears the reality starting to sink in with the underperformance of a defense that was thought to be solid going into the season or not just to deepen the entire football team Jay GRUDEN. I think he's on borrowed time here in Washington a performance like this tonight on Monday night football the offense has largely been lifeless penalties the owner Dan Snyder he wants better with an owner who's extremely unpopular not coincidentally also extremely unsuccessful for what does it mean to be a redskins fan. These days Washington Post sports columnist varies for Luga has been all over the dysfunction in his latest column asks the question. What is this season even about all right bury. So will you answer that question for us now. Well I mean we can break down the specifics of a football game and why they lost on Monday night in embarrassing fashion but I think what that Owen three start gets to are the macro questions about this this franchise who should be the coach does that even matter. The Dan Snyder is on his eighth coach Jay Gruden. Should they immediately turn to a rookie quarterback who's going to be minding that rookie quarterback teaching that rookie quarterback going forward with Twain Haskins and what is the front office structure their Bruce L. and the team president has had a variety leave responsibilities with his over his decade with the team. None of it has led to success. He's fifty nine in eighty in his tenure there. I think any sort of minutia look the redskins right. Now is beside the point you need to look at the major questions about this franchise right minutia to focus on just one game like last night's blowout route but at this point in time when you look at the arc of Daniel Snyder's ownership over the last two decades are we at the neigh- deer in which would be saying something you're talking about a franchise that in midstream of one season called in an offensive coordinator to take AAC overplay calling who had been running Bingo Games at an old folks home the week before and I'm barry exactly exactly so I I think it's like it feels like they're all the time around here because as you've said it was a once proud franchise the people who are in the core of the fan base in their forties and fifties he's who were raised as Redskins fans under gibbs and Rigaud and thighs men and all that are trying to raise their kids in that way and it's not working because it's not fun to go to the to the stadium. It's not a pleasurable experience. You have very low expectations that you're going to get a good product winning product and it all turns back to the owner her who has not produced a single eleven win season in his twenty one seasons as owner. I mean it is amazing as you say Berry. It's five winning seasons in twenty seasons. That's it's three ten win seasons and two nine win seasons. He's never had a team that you could characterize as excellent. What is his is self awareness here. Does he recognize deep down. We all know he grew up is a big fan of this team does he does. He know that he's a failure. Here's an owner. It's really impossible for us to know because he is so walled himself off from the public. There's never an expression of I am the owner of this team. I care about this as much as you do fans in and more it is on me to fix it. He doesn't put himself out to say those things he does. Not Put Bruce Allen his self selected team president with a link to those glory days whose dad was George Allen the former redskins coach he he those people never expressed abreast publicly what they think the direction of the franchise is and should be they leave whoever the coach in the moment is hang them out to dry and say this is what's going on the Trent Williams hold or this is why we made this draft pick. It's really an odd odd state of affair. Here's the thing right in the NFL. The League is built built in such a way. There's no relegation like Europe. If you have a lousy record you get high draft picks. It's there's a salary cap. It's built to prevent this kind of you've continuous misery. You would think there would be a breakthrough if nothing else just through sheer luck and that's what's mystifying about it we now. It's not a small sample hillside anymore. It is the twenty first year of his ownership. They are on their eighth coach and it's what leads me to believe that anybody who's in this environment as the head coach can't be judged in the job solely on what he does here because no one has succeeded and I'm talking about Mike Shanahan two-time Super Bowl winning coach who came here and failed Joe Gibbs who had won the super bowl's here came back and couldn't get them further than they had been Everybody okay who walks in the door walks out tarnished in some fashion as you said berries for Luga just said eight head coaches to playoff wins Berry. Thank you for joining us. Thanks Jeremy and is very just mentioned the season of discontent. It's continuing for Trent Williams. It's been playing out in the media since early. June when left tackle didn't and show up for the first day minicamp by holding out. He's calling himself millions of dollars finds. Mr Earnings he was dot forty thousand dollars per day missed in training camp now his miss game checks accounting for more than six hundred thousand dollars per week when considering loss bonus opportunities through week three the overall tally climbing climbing into the four million dollar range in the meter is still running for more on Trent Williams to hold out left tackle for the Washington Redskins we welcome in our ESPN ESPN NFL insider here Dan Graziano. I thought I was going to see on the Monitor you sitting right here with what's going on with. Trent Williams. Of course there wasn't just it wasn't just money. There was surgery as well spring and you look that graphic you guys out four million dollars. Obviously this is not just about money or else you no he'd be there. Yes there's two years left on his contract and maybe he wants more but my understanding and Trent Williams and his people have been extremely quiet on this. It's been tough to get information but my understanding thing is that it's tied to that. Medical issue had in the off season. He has issues with members of the medical staff. The training staff of the team doesn't want to be a part of the organization as long as they are. Dr And he's willing to sit out until they trade him or whatever he's made a lot of money in his career. It's not like he needs this so so far he has held firm and said. I'm not going back there and that speaks with getting out in terms of the culture around the team. I mean if you have a former number one number four overall draft pick who's been that great for. He doesn't want to be there anymore for how much they need him. We watch the game last night. I mean obviously that's a tough test against the bears front but Trent Williams is one of the top four or five left tackles in the game and that may be underselling or selling him so yeah it would make a huge difference to whatever they're trying to do on offense right now be at case keenum be Dwayne Haskins talk about Dwayne Haskins plays. I'm sure they would rather have their left tackle before they do that so yeah. He's he's one of the very best players on their team and they miss him. It's nothing you were talking about holdouts of course in the NFL but it seems like the trend has been accelerating accelerating and your reporting tells us that the front offices of all these teams Park Avenue. They're getting fed up. They want to try tried to address this in a strategic way. What is the thinking now. During the current round of collective bargaining negotiations owners have proposed strengthening ranking the penalties for training camp holdout at this point. You can be fined forty thousand dollars a day for missing camp. You can find a game check for missing a preseason game. They want to make that even more severe ear..

"At the same time. College athletes were gaining a new type of leverage. The growing doing voice of athletes through social media was giving them a voice that they really had never had before and more athletes started speaking out not just about wanting money but needing it for instance. Kansas is Ben mclemore talked about an impoverished childhood where his mother sometimes had to sell food stamps to pay bills and you know Kansas is one of the most storied and richest college basketball programs in the country the University of Connecticut garbage as Napier said even amid the media glare of the final four twenty fourteen that he sometimes sometimes went to bed hungry because of NC rules restricting how many meals schools could give athletes. I was like I said this hungry nights. I'm able to eat and I still got to play tomorrow mark capabilities and sometimes it's that way it really was striking and I think his message so resonated because it was amid the setting that remember is earning the NCAA apparatus itself almost two billion dollars. People were really were very outraged. I mean race must also play a role in this because many top players in the air black including I think every player that we've talked about so far and they're often playing at majority white universities so it's their labor really that's earning all the money that they're not getting a Sharon Orrin. Yes it's true that at high profile at like departments generally football and men's basketball teams generate most of the revenue and those teams in many cases are predominantly African American so there is this notion that african-american athletes are helping earn this revenue to essentially support support the rest of the athletic department and yet not being able to share in any significant portion of that revenue themselves and how is the incidentally responding during in this period when athletes were speaking out well you know they really did respond in cases where there was a public outcry so for instance when when Napier talked what about going to bed hungry dancy very quickly changed its rules and allowed US schools to offer unlimited meals for athletes which in hindsight is sort of a no brainer as incidents like Napier's got attention. The outcry wasn't just a one off. Public sentiment was actually changing in two thousand thirteen seventy one percent of people agreed that a scholarship was compensation enough within just four years that number dropped by ten percentage points but that does mean that sixty percent of people still support the NC double A.'s position and among its supporters are some former players. I I feel like I have a little credibility knowledge about this because when I was at the when I was at the University of Florida I think my Jersey was one of the top selling jerseys around the world last week league former quarterback. Tim Tebow went on ESPN one of the most prominent broadcasters of college football in made an impassioned case against California's new law and yes. I know we live in a selfish culture where it's all about us but we're just adding and piling it onto that we're changes what's special about college football fan we turned it into the NFL advocates for keeping things the same like Tim tebow argue that money would skew recruitment high school recruits would just go or they could make the most money but the woman who co-authored California's bill was listening to a different argument Nancy skinner as Berkeley Democrat and she was inspired by hearing a speech she heard a few years ago by sports economist Andy Schwartz who has been pretty active in criticizing. NCAA and its rules curbing athlete compensation station. I think she just saw a chance to change something. You know when this bill was first introduced. It had some opposition. There were some people who who voted against it. It's it's been modified slightly since its introduction but the interesting thing is that as the NCAA has pushed back more and more lawmakers have voted in favor of this bill so oh in fact it's possible that the NCAA pushed back galvanized California legislators and prompted them to vote it through unanimously which they did and and how is the NC Double A. responded pretty forcefully. It sent a letter to California Governor Gavin newsom calling the bill unconstitutional. It's basically said you no hey we're working on this issue and we should have a chance to find some workable way to allow athletes to somehow benefit from their name image and likeness us and I think that legislators just said you know. Essentially we don't trust you and we're not. GonNa wait so here's our move in its letter the NC Double A. urged the state to reconsider the bill the NCAA also reaffirmed its long standing position that athletes are students not not employees.

"I gotta ask you carbohydrates sheet of integrity is now developing it's changing rapidly as the clock the hours. The you know, what is the sand that goes through the hourglass? It's all happening. It's evolving as tie, and it goes, really fast. I mean, you think about it from noon on Thursday. You know, you have sixty four teams by the time. You get the Sunday night you're down to sixteen. It goes very quickly. But I mean, tomorrow's like deja vu. We got a little wash rinse repeat? My thing is I'm already looking ahead with this sheet of integrity to some of these games that are already sat like, Maryland LSU. Are you leaning any direction in these games? Also, Minnesota Michigan state Murray state, Florida state Auburn Kansas already on the docket for Saturday. Yeah. I mean, if the Kansas team that I saw today against northeastern shows up against Auburn on Saturday and the Auburn team that I saw today shows up I think Auburn is gonna be in for a lot of trouble. Now, I liked I picked Auburn to win this game. But Kansas doubting. Well, not dowdy. But because Kansas is not look good all year. Right. They played northeastern today. Fairness. I thought would give them a you know, a game. And they didn't in the second half. They got their doors blown away. So I'm a little nervous about the Auburn Kansas game. No doubt about that. The other games. Look, I I'm still on LSU. Even though it's Maryland instead of Belmont. I'm still going to be on them. So your analogy over Maryland. Yeah. I'm still going to be on Michigan state. Even though it's Minnesota instead of Louisville. We're going to be there. And I'm still going to be on Florida state to beat Mary Murray state. So I mean, everything's pretty much status quo from me, I've lost anybody yet Murray state could be the loyal ramblers of twenty nine thousand nine you think that they're the team. Everybody wants to go. They could absolutely do that. I mean, Florida state for the first what you wanna say thirty thirty five minutes today. Vermont gave them a hard time. Vermont was that was a single digit game almost the whole way between Vermont and Florida state today. So and Murray. I think the catamounts are really good team. Right. But they don't play the kind of material that Florida's stage dealing with marriages say this you gotta be reminded by more than. The line was telling you gotta win that game by at least fifteen if you ask me, your Florida state. You're in the ACC, you're banging with the heavies. Some people think you're the one of the top seven teams in the country. I I would think most people think they are. And then you're messing around with Vermont. Now, I get it. It's a tournament game. So everything's different is pressure through the knows. What's crazy is watching these kids? You know, obviously when they lose these coaches, and it ends so quickly. It's like I mean, it is literally the door slams, and you're like shower boss flight home, it's over. I mean, it ends really harshly for the losers and the winners. Go back there. Room shower. Go watch another game, then go back to the hotel and get ready for breakfast. And and another day of practice, and then they'll play Saturday, so Friday, they get a chill the most and have fun all day and the other ones, you're going home. It is crazy tournament. So I was on an idea asked me about it was on five ninety. They asked me. Did you hear that guy? I heard a little bit of it. Yeah. Did you hear what I said about? They asked me if I think if this was my favorite sporting event. I didn't I did not hear that part. How did you respond? How do you think? I responded. Because it's such a huge gambling event. I'm going to say that it was definitely up there for you or at the top. But it was it at the top. I don't know. NFL playoffs for you. Cia Stanley Cup. What's wrong with you? Before. Because because I'm looking at it from shrank lately have you not been getting any leg on. What is this? Did you hear what he said to me football? What did he say baseball? Mean what I'm saying is our hockey this guy, you remember this guy. I thought this was from gambling aspect that from favorite sporting event. That's good. I once again rattled off the importance of the Stanley Cup over women and children good. So, you know, the the penguins go first, and then, you know, everybody comes after that say thirty four seed comes in close second based on her twenty years with me. And then, you know, the kids are twelve and. What are the fifteen and twelve almost? So there's fifteen and twelve years, so they go three four, and then you know, dog five but penguins, number one suppress, Doug. Even makes the top ten. I'm surprised I should probably put the Steelers in five and then dogs six even with the pirates before the dog come to think of it, pirates, scissors a hoosiers. Nine now behind the dog. You gotta get rid of that dog. Listen to you. You gotta watch bloodline strew the dog ranks higher than the pro baller. Cannot believe this guy. Honestly. I just I just broke into a full on sweat. I have a full body. He I'm having. I'm having like a palpitations avenue. A heat thing like a stroke heart arrhythmia, I'm having like a skipped red mea like worse than going to the prostate exam over the lustrous Carver high and the great hockey fan that he is the I'll see biogas the captain of all captain and Tonelli's this guy doesn't mention I honestly thought you were talking about gambling is unbelievable. I don't know what is happening here though. This is thought you were doing like a gambling. Figured it had the tie the gambling. I mean, wouldn't that be also the best morning of gambling this? This is better to gamble on talking about there's a game every night for two and a half months. I'm betting on. And I bet on that on. Plus minus on those first four days of the NCAA tournament are gamblers pag on plan is that like you get a free phone at the at the phone when you get a new cell phone buy one get one free. I give you a little plus minus goal and a half little Jimmy. And then you got your boycott likes to play that we're in Vegas. He plays at grand salami. There's nothing better when I see him at the bar in the morning, and he's like, I got the grand salami role today. Hello. It was fun being in Toronto. One other note, they do their updates. They start with hockey. God bless him. It was like a religious experience for me. The sports gas started with hockey news. I thought it was great because all we ever get. Here's the same crap. But honestly, you've never lead with hockey one since I've known you. And if you did you'd be fire, which is why I've never lived. Now left side the coffee coffee with a right hand dribble and bring it to the middle of the floor chess pass to mcbrayer on the right wing. He'll give it to Cal. Sure. In the right corner. "I don't get to see them too. Too much until they get into school. They, there's only a handful of kids that were talking about for sure that are really elites that I said could be lottery picks, I'm, you count them every year and others. There's some kids, maybe some second or third year that have gotten into that. But coming out of high school is only Cup. There's very few LeBron James, let's face it, but there's a lot of very talented kids, but they're of a limited number and the NBA's not gonna give money away. If you can't play, they're not going to suspect your ability. This could be for years, although they knew stockpiling as we've seen to where, why is he leaving? You know, they want to get to meet or real financial rewards at the end of that which he contract. So I just think that's a big move forward guy feels he's good enough and there's an opportunity. I think that takes the pressure off a lot of certainly the NCAA a lot of programs for sure. I, I completely agree. Raff you, you excited about the coming season helicopter advertising here on the beach. So like -centration with a chip, they. Yeah, I, you know, it's funny. We always talk about the blue bloods and I just think was great about the NCAA tournament is that we have seen, they don't necessarily. They're not handed championship either because you if so many programs were guys are three and four year guys, sometimes five that have played together the little more mature there little more resilient. There's just have a, maybe a new compensation plane together. We're tough mindedness, but the excitement every year is become something special, obviously, but the level of talent at a young age, what's just it's just totally credible. I can remember using years ago where he's only sophomore, junior or senior, you know, vis if kids come in, they are ready. They are talented and I and I think part of it is attributable to that. Hey, you circuit where they've competed. They've developed the confidence is not reading about somebody's competing against them and they, they feel there is good if not better. So this is I, I don't think this condemnation totally of the summer league of the is is warranted, and I think just keep moving in that direction where adds some things, the lead them that didn't work. Let's see, we can do better. And I think we'll see a consortium at some point of of all the group free. We've alluded to join this podcast that you gotta sit down and make it better and make it as good as you can make it and just eliminate those that want to play by their own rules. Basically. No, I think you're, I think you're dead on and hopefully, you know, the incidental, a looks back in tweaks this and adjust this. And obviously what they did was well intentioned and hopefully they look back in and just are constructive with this in in. In really make the initiative to to try to get this better in the best way for every kid possible and not just the top ten kids that are that it seems to be focused on. So I appreciate your time in. I'm looking forward to seeing in the season. Chatted with you..

"So you know, I understand that the difficulty of having that in every sport and what what it's like because each especially sport is is a little bit different. But you know, I definitely think it's a big. News and as always of the NCAA little bit a little bit funny news. Yeah. I mean, there's some, you know there's something behind it, right? Like there's no way they're just benefiting the student athlete, but at the same time, if you're a basketball player right now in a Suming that it just stays with basketball unless it moves down to football as well. Like wouldn't you just declare almost every single year when what? What do you have to lose at that point? Yeah, and that's where when I read their at Casey, you do roll your eyes a little bit because there's all these Tatyana that you've got to be approved by USA basketball. You've got to be quote, unquote elite deemed by who, and you know, to be able to have an agent or able to declare, and you know, my question would be why can't everybody makes the decision to enter the draft indoor go back to school? I mean, I, it's a win win situation. If a guy goes undrafted in football. So letting go back and play college football and the team NC double a. wins too because they're getting one of their best players back. I mean, it's just 'cause it makes it just makes me money. I mean, that's that's the thing is like, you know, I was so pissed off when I woke up this morning about the North Carolina shoes, even though it's a rule like, listen, if these guys are giving gifts and they want to sell them, that's capitalism. That's the whole thing. And I know it's ridiculous to say that, but it's like everything makes too much sense. Like if you wanna sell your autograph fine. It's your likeness. And I know again, we've talked about this on this podcast, the NCW full hypocrites in John. Johny you in a witness that up close and personal at am they just don't do anything, right. So even when they do appear to be doing something right, you know, benefits them more. They're hard. But I mean at the end of the day, they have all the power, you know these guys, that North Carolina don't get a chance to play some of them for four games. It's wild for doing something that you know, obviously being in a situation like that, you know, you're selling your shoes, you're doing things like that chances you get away with that or very slim, just just the way that the shoes were how how it was, but the day, you know, these kids are obviously, you know, it's a struggle for money, whatever your college you know for for a lot of these guys to. So to get any opportunity, you have some no money in your pocket and be a little bit more comfortable. A lot of these guys will jump at the opportunity to do that, but north end of the day, it's unfortunate. You know, some guys are out four games some guys out to and I saw somewhere. There's like a total like twelve to fourteen guys, which is which is nuts. It's insane. Well, and the the whole argue. With that. And I mean, argued probably get this a lot when you talk to guys that are coming out of college, it's like people wanted to Claire for the draft for different reasons where if you come from a family with money or you don't like their bunch of different reasons why you would wanna go play professional sports. But to me, it's like, okay, if they're in college and they don't have a lot of money and people really care about them in that moment and they want their autograph or they will take a championship ring and give them free merchandise or whatever it may be, why not let them do it? What does that hurt the NC double a. because it's their own likeness is and they could only be relevant for those four years at their in college. We'll tell you what the bigger money that the NCW's after that they captured the TV bunny shoe money. I think one of the things I laughed at was, you know, they're allowed to have agents now while they're in college or high school to help them..

"And then in April, two thousand ten trust replies to the Email the same day and says, thanks, I will get on ace app JT meeting Jim tressel. Okay. So then the emails continue and they're like, look, this is really bad like you've gotta talk to your guys and figure this out and trust applies. I hear you, it's unbelievable. Thanks for your help. Keep me posted is what I need to do. If anything, I will keep pounding these kids hoping they grow up. That's April two thousand ten. So then in June, it continues this trestle. In this one, local former Buckeye local attorney talking about what's going on. And honestly, I was going back to this time line today preparing for this podcast, like I kept going man, trestle lost his job over this and eventually he loses his job because he lied to the NCAA, but is my wrong for thinking that head coach. In that kind of program that y- hey, man, what's your players doing this really stupid thing like most every coach, and I think most of us, like if you were told immediately and I'm not talking about domestic violence here I'm talking about simply, hey, your players doing something really stupid, hanging out the sketchy tattoo parlor and they're selling jerseys and stuff like would you immediately call the NCAA you probably wouldn't now, maybe it would in the aftermath of what happened with trestle. So this goes on for months. Okay. And then trussell makes a couple mistakes here, but I can understand why he made this one at the end of two thousand ten. He just signed an annual NCA certificate of compliance form indicating he knows of no violations as reported the school. Any knowledge possible violations I would imagine given the the lack of depth that this story at this point that most coaches would you sign off on that certificate if you even signed the thing. Okay. Then the US attorney's office notifies Ohio State officials that it's been discovered similar state memorabilia during a raid of this tattoo parlors home and as the items were stolen day later, the. Athletic department is informed the list of dozens of items released later, estimates value, twelve to fifteen thousand dollars. So that is we're took. We're looking at seven, seven months later. Okay, stay interviews, six players. It's prior. It's the running back Herron posing the receiver. Mike Adams, the offensive lineman defensive lineman, Salomon Thomas defensive back Jordan whiting and gene Smith the at the time. Thanks the players and says, look, you know, thanks for letting us to you compliments on being honest and forthright. So then I'll state turns into self report in the NCAA declares six players ineligible, which also was comical because the NCAA notified of the Ohio State program of the five game suspensions for the five players for selling all of this stuff that again was found after a US attorney raid on this tattoo parlors place. Okay. And then they said they have to pay the charity, the equivalent of the money and services they receive. So whatever they got paid for all that gear that have been give that to charity. But and if you remember this comical thing that the two thousand eleven Sugar Bowl against Arkansas, all the players were allowed to play in that game despite having five game suspensions. And I think the tagline on that was for the integrity of the bowl season or for the bull system, and everybody was going to be kidding me with this stuff. And it also reminds me and I know what's going to happen as soon as I say, this much Auburn fans are gonna. Tell me how wrong I am. No, you're wrong. Cam Newton was suspended. No one knew about it and then was reinstated for the SEC title game when they smash South Carolina. And I remember being that's when I first started thinking sports like, oh, wait a minute. I was maybe naive before maybe skeptical, and that's when I started becoming even more skeptical. I'm like, wait a minute. The NCAA just announced that they reinstated somebody that they never announced was suspended with the Cam Newton, his father and that whole investigation. Like that's weird like, oh, guess what? The CBS SEC title game this weekend..

"This was an exaggerated version of what people should come to expect in the ncaa tournament not quite half of the top twelve seeds in the tournament getting knocked out but when you have so few of the blue bloods that have veteran players when you have so many one in done guys and win the tournament is set up to where it's not only that the mid major teams or the lesser teams the teams that don't have nba prospects tend to have veteran players because they're not going to leave early for the nba but also some of these ten eleven twelve seats how they get into the tournament by winning nine in a row to finish the year by winning their conference tournament you are catching team's veteran teams the hottest they've been all year too along with what we saw in zona of freshman team that just wasn't quite ready virginia team it wasn't about youth then moves about style they play a slow it down muck it up defensive style where all of a sudden they're down twelve they have no way out of that and then there's the outlier games like what happened syracuse what did syracuse beat michigan state because unfortunately michigan state they didn't play a lot of teams that play zone this year so all of a sudden it's like they're almost playing a different sport on the other end than what they've played all season long so win that the stylistic changes is something we've always seen stylistic conflicts and tournament basketball but the best teams being so young and not having tournament experience typically not having guys that say all right listen here's what we need to do here that that's why all of a sudden there is it is as wide open of an ncw tournament as we've ever seen.

"No doubt it is an absolute risk if you're a player to go in the combine it's another chance for you to get injured along the way it's another chance to expose parts of your physical makeup the give nfl teams a reason to try and get you for less 'cause that's really august predraft processes isn't exercise trying to figure out who you can get for cheap if you're an nfl team but i don't think it's useless and i know steven as did you see me against marquee competition that's not true for everyone everyone is coach differently in the ncaa boy everyone plays against the different level of competition guys come from different systems guys across is the vast landscape of college football are subject to a lot of different circumstances and so what is the combine what are the pro day what do all these standardised testing situations provide they provide a baseline now so much of it is prepared for in these big box training facilities that get you ready for the combine in a number of ways because the combines one big mine game they're getting up early they're making sure the eurobit dehydrated you're not so wellfed you're a little tired you're off and they wanna just test you they wanna just mess with you the entire weekend i'm never talk to a guy that's been the combine who said he would even dream about wanting to do that again it's a hellish experience for the guys involved and that's forgetting the meetings you have with teams the psychological analysis they're going to try and put your through you know they're trying to get at something inside you and you've got to do your best again you've been prepared by the place that you've been training for all these moments.

"It it was so very long for seoul a multitude of reasons i wish is ea players with exercise that power by boycotting the ncaa tournament and again is absolutely right and the fact that that power we talk about this all the time with the pros in the nfl the best power that the players have is their ability to strike their ability to remove the product from the field that makes everyone so much money and the nco boy players could do this in march madness and boycotting finalfour weekend my god what a coup that would be but in the nfl the difficulty always is you're asking a lot of guys the media the bell curve in that league to boycott missed games and potentially missed entire season in careers that are short were they may never be able to recoup the funds that they lose and now in the unsuitable way you're talking about kids doing that who may only have one chance at this kind of success who don't have any of the players at the top end of it will be here through the striker way we always talk about with the marquee players in the nfl being able to withstand this financially there are no players in the nc aa that can withstand missing out on that opportunity and the other thing it ignores the fact that there is a void of leadership at the top who amongst the players is going to be the one to stand up and rally everyone to get all parties involved on this in a way that possible that's the biggest area that the instability of loses out on because you're asking a bunch of kids that are constantly put down and told their voice doesn't matter in these situations to all the.

"Either way the and how the dnc rules on it and may i you know from history tell us cases different don't assume anything you know there are different waiver appeals uh i think it's legislative services people come in and out of ads it hide these days driving ole miss ends on its own as far as negative recruiting well that's going to happen nerves you know there's there's no honour among thieves i think we'll speaking of transfers you also reported recently about the big 12 proposal in in obviously there's a lot of larger discussion in the ncaa right now about bigger changes to the transfer policy we know they're not going to you the only when we know is not going to happen is everybody's immediately eligible transfer not gear at a not sit out a year but this is a pretty major ios off the area but this would be free agency if you're coach leaves uh this would allow players to trigger if the coach leaves our gets fired that the the um players could transfer somewhere without seeing out a year other than the can't follow their coach to his new school whereas in the process how realistic do we think it is that it would pass for a lap last week the npa put out a v from transfer working group that this is kind of where their head threat they didn't get pin down on anything but the transfer waiver group which is going to make recommendations to the council and then we'll have some sort of legislative change i think in june i think that much is assured it's a question of been wanted with implemented no one time for eighteen footballer or '19 football but they are thinking in general terms about the it were very careful to use the language in the relief supply kits a coach departs they didn't say fired they didn't say left on its own they've been save rental who.

"Trying to compare ncaa infraction cases the have nothing to do each other i mean the the issues a hand it all miss are they may have the same ncaa lingo extra benefits but obviously this is not the same thing but everybody's looking to it because of what we talked about earlier here is example of the of the ncaa holding rick pitino accountable whether he knew or not i think we've all been a little blown away by the extent to which all miss is going to bat for you freeze in this case like they're willing to throw his assistance under the bus but they will not accept any sort of nca penalty or or at vialli allegation that suggests that hugh freeze should be held responsible for all of the any of this i think that case at louisville may pretty clear that he will be held responsible well i also think that instute sorry i i'll a chance echo but i i think that the nc aa the way that schools respond to the ansi aa ends up matter a lot knees cases like wind fancied la's bad on being really like antagonistic i think is really bad luck we've seen different reactions from like north carolina at different stages and you see different reactions from the nc aa in return on and i think that being really defiant and putting all in your eggs and head coaches basket innis climate in a new penalty system where the head coach is responsible for their program no matter what they knew i think really is foolish and i do think that the nc aa you know it is gonna it no mrs howell the school is responded.
