How The Coronavirus Will Be Distributed Equitably
"Emigrants have color of people. without health. Insurance people who live in impoverished area areas people who live with multigenerational families. Don't even get normal healthcare. They get they get a coronavirus at higher rates than everyone else. They have higher mortality rates than everyone else. We don't have a system that gets these people better healthcare. We don't have a system that puts these people near the front line. We deal with that. How do you deal with equity in the distribution of a vaccine is incredibly important. I mean the billionaires. Nba players should not be at the front of a life and most importantly there's got to be a federal standard. But i mean biden. Ministration is already working on that. i'm us locally across. The state and the governor's in very engaged on this. A we are going to get the vaccine person form of healthcare and medical workers essential workers first and so really the state setting up its own framework and their governments. A great job of getting answering all all of us. A cities work together and the counties wealth but within our own health system here in the city of long beach. We aren't we also established own so we know that right after those initial batches com than we know that we're going to also work on Retirement homes and nursing and then we have plans to get out to the doctor as relates. Topsy we set up our own mobile clinics going justice communities that are people that are undocumented. What do the same thing or the vaccine will mobile clinics using our testing centers. Convert them or do monolingual spanish and other languages. So it's gotta be an effort where we go after us. Yeah you you. You understand that community well got imagine. After the last four years they're much of undocumented people speakers. Who are quite leery of getting a injection from the us government. i'm not very worried about this statistic. I'm looking at the statistics of people who will not agree to take this drug. The number of people who Vaccine the number of people who've agreed to take increased now between september and november two sixty percent that it's up nine percent over that short amount of types that's good and i suspect once people start getting the vaccine that number will grow to the seventy percent plus that you need in order to create card immunity. That does that number worry. You the number of the small number of people who are prepared to take the struck. A spectrum absolut absolutely. I'm hearing from those folks already. And the truth is is really a trust of government i mean donald trump has completely broken. Trust your mental. You have a lot of release. That would be that typically much more likely to listen to the authorities that are scared. Don't interact with the when it comes to latinos are undocumented immigrants on they are very nervous about what donald trump has done to this country into our government's going to have to rebuild that trust and we're going to have to go into communities speak in their language at work low income families and brain unity organizations that are trusted incubator in with inquiries and get the vaccine. Now it just not be wait-and-see we can't sit around and wait for to get the vaccine we're gonna have to go directly into neighborhoods in their language and within with without cultural lens. Get the vaccine to them.

NBA Schedule 2020-21: League Releases Official 1st Half of Regular-Season Slate
"Scheduled did come out today. I did notice that. I was able to take a look at that. And for the lakers. I like you know. Look everyone's gonna focus on the clippers right and the christmas game and all that. But i'm looking at the rest of that and the thing that stood out the most and look. I think the league did them favor. Okay is that they have the least amount of back to backs. At least in the half of the schedule that's been released by the league. The league is gonna play seventy two games. They've released thirty six games. Approximately and the lakers have five back to backs. Then miami houston and there's one other team that i can't remember off the top of my head that has only five teams. That are the most have nine which is a lot. I feel like in thirty six games. But but they are not one of them and they. The league did the two representatives of the conferences in the finals. A a huge service. Which they should have did they did. There are a couple of dates. That are a little disappointing for me. but i'll maybe the league was thinking another way i and it jumps out at me When i look at the schedule is that there's no game on jamie twenty six I anticipated there being one. So that The lakers could be the franchise to mark. You know that anniversary But clearly the league either didn't want to. Or maybe they got pushed. Back from the lakers franchise me. They didn't want that date to play on But that's the first thing i check and then the second thing was just bronze birthday You know where would he be really be home or will he be on the road. They decided to put him on the road. Which i guess doesn't really matter because we not there to be happy birthday anyway.

Rockets’ Russell Westbrook Traded to Wizards for John Wall
"Brian windhorst who. I saw yesterday on tv when early in the morning. I saw brian. When i found out that my found out the night before i guess late the night before that westbrook had moved from houston for wall in washington and is everybody knows because they've heard me say two thousand times. I love this trade for washington. But i thought brian would have a better perspective on it because he hasn't been burdened by having to watch the washington wizards for x. amount of years. John wall go nowhere absolutely nowhere. So let me let me start with the most obvious thing and take my prejudices out of this. Why do you make this trade. If you're houston well. I think this is really about the other stars involved. I mean it's hard to say that when you're talking about you know all star. I mean all star point guards. It'd be nine. yeah well. Isn't it all star today. And they and then they forty million dollars. They could traded for each other. I mean this is the definition of a blockbuster. But i'm sitting here saying this is about bradley. Beal james harden and it's different for both of them This is i think houston trying to salvage the situation. Which is they know that. They absolutely positively no westbrook. It are not going work out together. and so they're trying to find a way to keep their fingers in the dam so to speak. I do not think it's going to work I think the fact that they got the first round pick And i think they also hedging. And i don't think this is a strong bat. I wanna be clear. But they're also hedging that if wall recovers from this achilles That it might be better to have him for the next three years and russell westbrook. But i mean you know you're not staking your application on that I think hard and we'll be out of there by the trade deadline. Which looks like it's going to be in late march Maybe well before. But that's what they're trying to do and washington. I you know this is about holding bradley. Beal i mean i don't think it's a revolutionary idea that they have transitioned from john wallace their franchise player to bradley beal. This is clear and while Trust me there are plenty of people out there who have checked in with the wizard checked in with bradley beal however they do that. Are you happy in washington. The answer is still. Yes but the wizards are very aware that that may not be yes indefinitely and so this trade they trade free guy who was on the nba team. Last year. He was thirteen nba And he will in theory. Give them some more ammunition this year to compete with charlotte in atlanta who have upgraded. Their rosters and the wizards need to make the playoffs. This year or i think bradley beal could be out of there. And that's a move in this direction. Is it a slam dunk. Tony no but i think will be a upgrade from what they can expect from john wall.

Opinion: Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James is worth more than $85m
"Have had a really short offseason right? Like their last their season ended. On October 11th. And their first preseason game is December 11th. So we're talking about two months. Roughly half of one and normal offseason is for a finals champ. Not for any other team, but for a finals champ. They're getting half the time they normally would. But Rob Pelinka has been busy as hell. They brought in the sixth Man of the year. Montrose Harold they brought in the sixth Man of the year runner up Dennis Schroder. Brought in Marcus all they brought in Wesley Matthews. They re signed KCP. They re signed Marquis of Morris. And then, in the last 24 hours, they made the moves that everybody was expecting. First, there was the news that LeBron had agreed to a two year extension with the Lakers, then the news. And Anthony Davis had agreed to a five year extension with the Lakers. And both were expected. But for any Laker fan freaking out and sweating that either LeBron or a D would leave, rest assured, that's not happening. Nor should it like, Why would they? Why would they? They just want to ring. They've got a really good look at another. In fact, I make the argument that this year's roster is better than last year's roster. Now That doesn't mean they're gonna win again. But all you can ask for this point. Is a chance and they've got a damn good chance. In fact, they've got better better than a damn good chance the deals with LeBron and 80 or not a surprise. But they are interesting as an example that two year extension that LeBron reportedly agreed to is going to run through the end of the 2023 season and reportedly is worth 85 mil. Some of you might be thinking 85 mil. For two years to turn a cash, especially for a guy who's got that many miles on him. Who me? Especially for a guy who's gonna turn 36 later this month. In this case to me, 85 mil. It's not too much. In fact, it's not even close to too much. In fact, I'm gonna argue that LeBron is worth a hell of a lot more than 85 mil. I'm gonna argue. LeBron is worth double that amount of money, if not more, and again, that's not hyperbole. That's not exaggeration. Look where the Lakers were before LeBron arrived. They had been in the post season in years. They were a complete and total mess. Then he shows up and leaves them tow a ring in a second season. You can't put a price tag on that. How much money is that worth? You can't put a price tag on a moment like this. During the trophy presentation, Jeannie. I told Jenny when I came here that I was gonna put this franchise back in the position where it belongs. Her late. Great father did it for so many years and she just took it on after that, and For me to be a part of such a historical franchises. It's unbelievable feeling not only for myself, but for my teammates for the organization for the coaches for the trainers, everybody that's here. We just want our respect. Robinson's respect Coach Vogel Warner's respect. Organization. What they respect Laker nation won't they respect and I want my damn respect to if you don't think that's worth 85 mil. Then you don't understand business, their business that brand their pride that legacy. I mean, you could pass that hat among Laker fans and come up with way more than 85 mil. To pay that guy again as a
Anthony Davis finalizing five-year, $190 million max deal with Lakers, agent says
"Or Chris? Paul. What kind of money in contract negotiations? Did Mr Clutch sports full in this league on LeBron and then a D and back to back days? What is he charged for? That One quarter, then 2% 3% no more than three right. I do have a friend. That's an agent and I'm doing this off in time. My head, but I think They get generally between what four and 10% depending on the sport. It depends the more you make, the less the percentages so I I paid agents 10% most of my life, but I don't make that much. But a guy like LeBron James when he's your buddy. Yeah. You know, I I would think probably 3% would be The going rate, uh, for that, but I mean, he did monster contracts back to back. On. It's the relationship with LeBron. I mean, they grew up together, and he's the guy who's got trained my green as well. And they all orchestrated the The Anthony Davis, You know, transaction to hold out from New Orleans and put on the T shirt that that's all folks and, you know, just kind of tanked on there all year and Even though they were a playoff team, and you made the point that They? They both got massive contracts. I mean, LeBron, a two year $85 million extension. Could. It could have gotten more I think and then Anthony Davis, a five year 1 90 he can get out of here is an early termination doesn't have to go to the fifth year. So I don't know. You know, the the roll back and in the B R. I Is going to affect most people, but I don't know if it'll affect them. There is a very top end. But I think they probably could have squeezed a little more juice out of it. To be honest with you, but they all signed back to back so We're looking at the Lakers being the dominant team in the NBA for at least the next three years and more. It's interesting that actually A D committed to a year beyond LeBron. So I mean, LeBron is you gotta play more than just this
Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards agree to Russell Westbrook-John Wall deal
"Agreed to trade their two disgruntled star point guards John Wall. And Russell Westbrook. This a blockbuster deal teams announces yesterday wizard sending wall and a lottery protected 2023 1st Round NBA draft pick to the Rockets for Westbrook in the deal of both both players wanted Have been simmering for for weeks now. So John Waldo, what's he really got it like I remember one of the former number one pick. And this dude, I'm a fan. I'm a John Wall fan, but he got hurt, and he got fat. And like, I just don't know it could be interesting to see what Russ in Washington. I can't. I can't even imagine. I mean the hated diminish this and these are great players. They Hall of Famer Russell. What I mean Russell is that probably is a hall of Famer, but I just don't don't see this altering the NBA landscape. Do you know it really doesn't mean I don't think that maybe John Wall gets reborn somehow in a huge I mean, I don't know. But I hear you on Westbrook in in D. C. It's all they don't want in the east, right?
LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers agree to two-year, $85 million contract extension
"And i mentioned lebron james. Lebron james continues to just print money. His agent said today. Lebron has signed a contract extension with the lakers. Two years eighty five million dollars. Two years eighty-five million dollars if they cloned and cloned you one hundred times we would make eighty five million dollars over two years so this is. This is the math on this. Between now and the end of the twenty two twenty three season which is where this contract extension takes into the end of the twenty two twenty three season. Lebron james will earn over one hundred and twenty five million dollars. That's one hundred twenty five million over and above what he's made so far in the nba's in his nba career three hundred and ten million dollars so at the end of the twenty two twenty three season just on basketball alone not on endorsements not on anything else except bouncing the ball in the nba for eighty games a year at the end of the twenty two twenty three season lebron james made in his career four hundred and thirty five million dollars let that sink in just for a second
LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers agree to two-year, $85 million contract extension
"Like LeBron James kind of likes living in Los Angeles. He had two years left on his four year Laker contract, which includes his player option year of 2021 22. But with his reported to your Max contract extension, LeBron James voiding that option year and is now side with the club through the 2022 2023 season. Agent -- LeBron James, Lakers agree to two-year, $85 million extension
"By the Lakers. He wasn't a free agent. But the Lakers wanted to make sure their superstar was around for a few more years, LeBron James agreeing to a two year contract extension worth reportedly $85 million, according to media reports. That would mean when Anthony Davis returns to the Lakers, where he opted out after last year's championship season, he would have three more seasons to team up with James, who won yet another NBA Finals. M V. P. James turns 36 on December 30th, which would put him at 39 shortly after the last season of his contract expires. Randy Cartoon can

That don't know the don't know everything about luca at this point Pelicans and heat like zion williamson a christmas day game. The pelicans played on christmas day last year. It believe the nuggets bite ziad with the injury so Good good opportunity to showcase ion williamson golden statement walkie without clay. How much can steph do with the kid from memphis as james wiseman And not clippers and denver. I mean that's just too great teams from the western conference We'll see what they're gonna do. I mean quite leonard still there. They underachieved last year. They're gonna they're gonna be looking to do a little bit more this year
NBA schedule for Christmas Day tentatively features 2020 conference finalists
"Sedano chelsea with you here. So l z. We've got the schedule. Released a tentative schedule bomb from adrian. Wardner asking so. Here's the schedule you ready. I'm listening noon. Eastern so nine. Am pacific breakfast with zion at the heat. How do you feel about that matchup. I'm i'm okay with it. i'm okay okay with it. It's not great but it's okay. I'm a little disappointed that the early game will be in miami. Because it's like like i feel like the eastern conference champs. They probably deserve a better time slot than that. So that's the jimmy just wanted to get back to the house. Maybe maybe then you've got warriors at box. Two thirty eastern eleven. Thirty am bizarre. I don't love that. Matchup prayers. Because the matchup i wanted was the warriors in nets because i wanted cajun playing the warriors so the nets are on the schedule next at five eastern two pacific at the celtics. And my problem with this. Is this if you had. The warriors already going east wine not have them in brooklyn that day.
What could the college basketball season look like
"Finish out their season out of state because health officials in Santa Clara County have shut down their operation and Levi Stadium There is also word this morning that college basketball's future is in doubt. Rachel Bachman is a college basketball reporter for The Wall Street Journal. She told this morning with Gordon deal that college basketball teams are more vulnerable than football teams because they have fewer players and if just a few of them gets sick, Of course, it can devastate an entire roster, she says. There's another reason basketball teams are at greater risk. College basketball teams travel a lot more. They play more frequently, so that also presents a problem if you know There's an infection, and players have to say quarantine for a week or two. That could wipe out numerous games as opposed to in college football. Maybe one or two. Okay, so Christina, they have fewer players on the roster and I play indoors. Yes, that's true, so that adds another element to this and Bockman says. But the NC double a has already severely cut back on the regular season schedule. The empty itself first delayed the start of the season by more than two weeks on duh, then it also pretty radical move flashed the number of required games on to be considered for the postseason and state tournament. So now it seems only have to finish. 13 games to qualify for consideration. If you get into a men's or women's tournament last year, it was 26 games. And so you could tell that the entity is bracing for a lot of games to be postponed, canceled, so they cut their regular season schedule in half go from 26 to 13, and then you can become eligible for the tournament, which is in March. Now get this the men's basketball tournament. The March Madness provides the overwhelming majority of revenue for N C w basketball operations. So of course they don't want to. They don't want to cancel March, man. This and a lot of that is TV revenue. That's where they make their money. They're gonna have to bubble. They're talking about holding it in one place in Indianapolis. I believe it is and they might do. They might use that model that the N B a used when they went to Orlando. It worked very well for the NBA. I mean, you had a couple of people that you know it did left to go get something to eat or whatever, and came back. The concern isn't necessarily the tournament itself. March madness. It's getting to the tournament, right? Because you got to travel. You mean you're going to have to go to other schools in other places? Well, this is also happening as
Rachel Nichols On NBAs Return To Action Outside The Bubble
"We've been getting clarity about what this season is actually going to look like so it scheduled to start december. Twenty second and the finals are expected to end sometime in july. But i wanna talk to you about everything may or may not happen. I guess between those two dates because this is not going to be a bubble situation. Now what are the broad strokes of what the league is planning for this season. I think one of the most interesting things that's going to happen to the nba. Is that the situation in the country. Should hopefully all fingers crossed significantly change. Through the course of the season rachel nichols is the host of espn's nba show the jump. She's been reporting on the nba for nearly two decades. It could be. Maybe i'm being optimistic that there's enough people in this country vaccinated that the numbers of of infection or lower in deaths are low and that we have a full city to city. Travel fans in the stands. Nba finals when right now a majority i think of nba teams or at least a big chunk of them can't even have a single fan in the building. And i think that the nba is smart and taking sort of month by month approach. They're not even planning to release the full season schedule at the beginning of the season. Has it ever happened before. I don't think so in any sport like it's it's it's all a little bit up as they go along because that would imply that they didn't know what they were doing. And i think the nba has shown they really do know what they're doing as much as anyone can right now but we don't know so much about what's going to happen in this country that i they can look at the first chunk and just say okay. Here's what we're gonna do at the beginning and we'll see after that give you the basics. Though in terms of how many games we're playing year where they're going to happen. What are the fundamentals of what the first half of this. Season's gonna look like right. Well they're trying for seventy two games in quote home markets in home arenas. They've talked about trying to do the puzzle pieces of the schedule in a way. Where teams if they're you know a lotta times. Nba teams love to tell you how bad the league offices screw them on their travels. Because you know if you're portland and all of a sudden you're going to miami and then you're going to utah and then you're going to new york and then you're going to denver and then you're going back to brooklyn you're like i was just in new york. They're going to try to not have that happen. The thing that they have on their side this time is that there's really not concerts at arenas to schedule around the ideas that if you travel to a certain region of the country baseball style you can maybe play all the teams all of which is great and they've told teams when you do travel. Obviously they take their own plane they will get to a hotel but a hotel with other people in it so they've given them rules and there is this you know. Nearly one hundred fifty page rulebook. They dumped on the teams and thanksgiving weekend and one of them was. Hey when you're at the t. motel. Your guys can't use the gym and the only way they can use the gym if the hotel agrees to clear every other hotel guests out of the gym keep it closed for the entire duration of the stay. Have it cleaned between each player when they use the hotel gym. I mean there's just that's the level of Of sort of detail. They've gone into which is great but the bottom line is you're playing a sport on like football. Unlike baseball that has played indoors. Where the guys are breathing and sweating wreck on each other with no helmets or equipment in between so the league. That didn't have any player. Positive cova tests through this whole last. Six months of on-court play is going to have them this season pretty much guaranteed. So you're in the bubble.

"If you're a player how do you build through? How do you go through with this? What are you want if you're player van? I don't know how good you were who, but if you're if you're a basketball player. Where do you thinking about in this? Man Look I i. think it was a couple of nights ago. I. Think George Hill. Howson George Hill Talk Right. And he was he was talking about the fact that he didn't really did feel like they should be playing anyway with their anyway and I was I was listening to listen to him. He doesn't want to be there. I'M looking at him right and they wanted to talk about the game. He's talking about the game, but he's also emoting in a very in a very real way. He's. Conflicted and not conflicted but angry about the position that he's in not that anybody made him play. Anyone compelled him to be somewhere that he didn't want to be but this is weighing on his mind. By. It's it's something that he's thinking of. So imagine being sort of in that position. Not We all gotta go to work. We're not. We're not. We're not. We're not treating NBA players as if there's some sort of special UNICORNS we're not. But. We also some of us is society don't have the burden to be as directly outspoken on these issues. As we do a celebrities do as high profile individuals do so they can't think about basketball they're thinking about all of these different things and it's got to be tough and it's also got to be tough plan on a bit court that says black lives matter wearing a black lives matter t shirt wearing a slogan on the back of Your Jersey all it is, and then when you turn on your TV after the game drained, it's happened again. Am I going through the motions or I'm having an effect? Because there's a part of this. That can be that can be it can sort of be looked at at if you're a player as am I doing something that's making all of this more palatable to Americans right am I out there playing, give them giving them escapism giving them. All of this stuff with society has an earned it. You know what I mean, and you don't WanNa feel complicit in that and I'm not saying the eagles guys do I'm just saying I'm sure part of them feel like, no why would I give you something to watch on a on a Wednesday night when this manages just eight in the back, just fix this and then you can watch some basketball and I'm not mad at that and especially with with black minute women in all the pronouns being African Americans. We have to deal with not just working, but also working with that trauma on a daily basis right? We have to work with dealing with. Doing the best that our job but also thinking about what's going on in the world and you know van is van Leith in right. But he's also nobody cares about that. When he walked down the street right you're still a black man I'm still a black man to we still have to deal with these things and. Kyri. Gary. Urban brought up this conversation before they were going here. Bought, it was a distraction that you know. They're coming back to play and coming back to work amid all this stuff than I i WanNa get to your opinion Robert I want to get this to van. You believe that it was a distraction to go back in here and I can't say. I'll we're all here because we love the NBA. Rob Loves NBA Logos. NBA NBA can't say. because. The reality is that just an I bombed out. I'm super excited like I said I bummed out that I'm not GonNa Watch Lebron close out the trail blazers tonight. Sure. And at the time, that's sports was coming back. Was it did it not feel like Elixir for me Personally, I watched baseball. Make them on who does that. Mean so so so like you know I can't say I can't say whether or not. It was a distraction I. Don't think that it was, but I can't be sure I know right now. The players feeling like they need to do more I'm completely on the side of that now I don't disagree with High Rethinking That's distraction, but I can't say whether it was or whether it wasn't I just don't know. Because a feelings that they have now is a feelings that they had before the bubble riot and this suggests cops just going to stop killing black people in the streets. Not. They're not gonNA stop doing that anytime soon. I just don't see. What more we can do right now, and that's that's why I'm kind of. Pessimistic about a season happening right because. Nothing's really changed since George Floyd die or got killed right there's nothing that has changed. Do you see. Do you see them coming back anytime soon rob I think there will be some kind of intermediate resolution having it on video makes a lot of difference put putting in front of People's faces and saying this is irrefutable. You can think whatever you think about Oh he had. He did this and his past, which is irrelevant piece of information. You see what police did to him in the street other. People witnesses in front of them what are the cops doing when there aren't cameras when we aren't looking and I think what's meaningful about this situation we can't take the Milwaukee piece out of this the fact that the bucks the nearest the most proximal team to the shooting itself is important but this is a group that has some skin game. This is a team that plays in the most segregated city in America. A city that they represent a now have to go home to, and the fact that they're the team that's leading the charge on this I think it's meaningful. I can see that I just. As we're as we're again, this is a fluid pod shrive blakely of NBC Sports Boston just said that both teams from the Celtics and the Raptors are leaning towards not playing game one of their series and you that is a huge deal of going forward. So I don't know you got any last words van. What do you think? We love the NBA Yes, we love the NBA. We love watching the NBA is been great to see some of the storylines that have come out of bubble. Bobble basketball has been great in fantastic we it's felt like. For A moment that we were back to some.

"Bucks games. Yeah yeah so I go watch brooke trick everybody into thinking. I swear. There's the only good thing to come out of this box fan base. I laugh but I'm not kidding. Even they had had some level of self control the whole thing Go off some Bucks Games. Please goodness sakes let me just say. This is a good opportunity. You people don't know what you're watching. Oh come on. You don't Know Kevin. You don't know what you don't know what you're watching sh you know. There's four great defenders in front of the guy and he never comes out from the basket. Doing stand around the basket. This is I was just ashamed to be got drafted second. You trick the world into thinking you're amazing defender. Like College basketball. You just set the guy in front of the basket play over a decade in the NBA over a decade and he suddenly became Bill Russell. Or maybe it's the system you'd make me mad. I knew you'd make me mad before this is over. I was just trying to make a friendly suggestion. Well now we'll have at least three weeks for people to write Lebron. Mvp articles can go back and do that. It's going to be very interesting over the next couple of weeks. Kevin Suras man stay safe everybody. I don't know where this is going to go. I don't know. Hopefully it will maintain their safety and we will get to continue the NBA season. But we are still at a moment where we just don't know Kevin you stay safe to brother and I'll talk to you either way on Tuesday to have a good everybody thanks to Isaac Lee for producing the episode today. Diggity here go get your rating on review on. I tunes five stars. Five stars really helps and we will talk to you next.

"In the western conference. There's no such breathing room because you've got pretty much every single team even if they're having offier this year expecting to be competitive postseason bound teens next year. GimMe Your like thirty thousand foot view of the state of rebuilding in the NBA. Right now before we get into some of these specific circumstances. Yes so what struck me about it as so right now. It's march kind of getting into March madness. Everyone around the league kind of moving up shaking up their draft boards getting a feel for this class and as I was kind of evaluating guys that I'm looking at some players and I'm thinking okay like this guy is probably two or three years away from being good NBA player. He has a lot of potential but he needs some time. And I'm trying to find fits for these guys for projects and it's thank. There's no time many more about the West. The Western Conference so like the team's not in the playoffs. They made the playoffs right. Now IT'S PORTLAND NEW ORLEANS SACRAMENTO SAN ANTONIO PHOENIX MINNESOTA GOLDEN STATE ALL. Those teams expect to make the playoffs next season. Yeah either they're like a polander. Golden State who are down because of injuries are there teams who've been bad for really long time like Minnesota Phoenix or Sacramento. And they're desperate to make the playoffs and I don't know if they can sell their fans on another bad season right now like we gotta win next year no matter what and so then what do you do with a nineteen year old kid. Who's not ready to play at a high level in the NBA? How does that help writing now? And how can you afford to be patient when you have to win next season? No I was just GonNa say especially for a bunch of the teams. You just mentioned they're going to be in that late lottery mid first round zone. Wear those kids you're talking about are probably GonNa be available right. Yeah and if you look at Minnesota so their rookie share jared culver. He's got some pound six. Six Wing has to work on his jumper but next year year two was a big year for his development by next year. They're trying to make the playoffs. They have candy Ngelo Russell. They tried their first. Sean pick for the NGELO. Russell is they're going to be time for Jerry. Culvert and Miss Jumpers probably. Not He can. You can be not playing next season and then you're you're lottery pick. Your counting on long-term is developmental song. Because he's not playing right and that's a kind of example of I think that this this whole season for Minnesota has been on one hand probably ultimately unofficially about keeping Karl Anthony towns happy. This is a team that scene to franchise forwards leave in the last thirty years and Garnett and love. And go on to win championships. So I'll that they WANNA see another franchise forward. Walk out the door and join a super team and win a ring somewhere but at the same time that urgency that they've created around that. Karl Anthony towns situation the urgency that they're reacting to around the Karl Anthony towns situation which ultimately is just like kind of a bunch of gossip and some of it not even really reportable or verifiable and now all of a sudden. You've got where this team went from. Hey we love our young young core that we're going to develop. We kinda came out of the TIBBS era. Where we had the Jimmy Butler Derrick rose's around and now we're going to go fully into the youth movement and then in midseason here. They tried to correct the sins of the off season of not being able to get Russell and they got off Covington and now they have like half of the nuggets on their team and they're kind of like a mishmash of of of players situations and you wonder about whether or not Ryan Saunders who who seems to be well liked among his players but I don't know if he's getting the results he needs to get to keep his job and you've got Gerson Rosas in there who you're kind of wondering what vision does he have for the team and how much of that is dictated by what towns wants. Yeah and it just feels like the window to rebuild a smaller than ever you look at Atlanta so they kind of their own version of the process there near three of that and you you follow the cowards team. And they're desperate to win now. They even said next year. We have to make the playoffs. They're making wind now. Trades TO GET CAPPELLA. Any doesn't feel with the rest are young players because they gotta win because trae young is good now and we can't afford to lose and it just seems like these days with the way the media is in the spotlight on teams. I think maybe you get two years to rebuild where no one's GonNa pressure you but then that window is over and then that's like you're looking. Okay I draft three players year one year two year. Three and H. M. needs two years to develop. That's like five years right there right and it just adds up really fast. No I know and it's like within LANTA. It's pretty fascinating because I wonder whether or not Orlando looks around at a Memphis and get spooked. If they're like so the Grizz are almost certainly going to make the eighth seed in a much tougher conference and they are going into it with such. I think probably I think the grizzlies had lower expectations heading into the season. The hawks did he ask me. But the hawks meanwhile our our dwelling around the eastern conference basement while the grizzlies are one of the feel good stories of the season. Do you think that kind of kind of window? Shopping effects team expectations. When you look around you say wait a second. So Taylor Jenkins comes in and John. John Moran Jaren Jackson now a foundational core of a playoff team. But we've got trae young and all these other guys that we've drafted over the last two years and we can't get anywhere close to thirty wins here. Well I think yeah Memphis the perfect example of just how hard it is because what they've done is they've just aced every move. They made so I was. I did article about this couple of weeks ago looking at their success this year and they had jolly have Jaren and they're getting play from Brandon. Clark the number twenty one pick and the Anthony Melton who they got for nothing in a trade and they're getting their maximizing every single piece. And if you don't do that with the young team going nowhere really fast and that that feels like it's not even just about your top picks it's about acing all your picks right right and it's also about having everybody from Coaching Staff Front Office ownership and players kind of on the same timeline right because earlier in the season. I think we started to hear the first rumblings out of Atlanta. That trae young was like I need help. I need you know. I basically expect a higher caliber teammates without explicitly saying that. I think when they were really really going through it. And that seems to have maybe accelerated Atlanta's feeling like they need to bring in some more guys and didn't just want to run out herder and De'andre Hunter and Cam Reddish every night although each one of those guys at various points maybe has had. I'm not so sure about the hunter but I mean I saw. I saw Nice Reddish night sometime in the last month. I don't know I know those were probably a few and far between. Do you feel like the hawks were victims of the kind of good momentum that they had coming out of last season where they won a few games in the second half there. Yeah and it's we're talking about the linemen it's every month the organization that goes to your players have GM who can sell it to all your players to sell the region and then it's there's so much trust all right so if you're saying okay. Our team is GONNA BE TRAE. Young Collins Herder Hunter Reddish will hunter and radish like reddish like nineteen hunters twenty. One they're two years away. So you're you're essentially like punting a season and a half them develop but what if they're not actually that good? I I like hunter red assure but what if they're not then just totally cooked? So you're making these gambles on nineteen year olds to develop in two years at best case scenario then if you miss mortals nineteen year olds it gets ugly really fast. Yeah I mean it's it's interesting because like I think that the process happened and you could make an argument that a actually didn't land the process plane quite correctly looking at what happened to the sixers this season. But it's pretty profound to go from. I guess I think sixers fans like myself who were probably ultimately fine intellectually with the Doug Collins era especially when it was a competitive woman had to really wrap their minds around the extent of this extent which that this team was just going to be actively getting their asses handed to them on a night tonight basis with guys you'd never heard of in order to get to the not just like. Oh you have some good guys on this team now. But the EMBIID Simmons level player. And that's not even counting for the fact that the sixers blue to other top three picks foltz and OKAFOR. So it's a really complicated thing to ask a fan base to do and I think that's when you get into. What is the relationship between a city and a fan base and the team because like you said Bulls fans kind of resigned? I think they all kind of live in the the REINSDORF ecosystem there and are kind of like this is what it is but you know for a team for a place like Detroit. For instance seems stuck in a kind of competent but not quite exciting zone. What do you see as their expectations? Going forward obviously they got off Drummond and Jackson they still have blake. But you know have basically been the Christian would show as you so you hey recently by guy like do you think the Pistons have like the kind of breathing room. That a a hawks team would love to have will have a breathing room for now. That's the thing so they may be habit for a year or two where the fans will be patient. There will be like too many expectations and the hard thing is even if they bought them out with the process in Philly they got how many top three picks four. That's going to happen anymore with the way the lottery. Odds are even doubt most likely it's truly a crapshoot who gets those top three picks so now you could be bottoming out like the Bulls did and getting the numbers on pick for four straight years. Ray You're getting lucky in the draft or you are in a lot of trouble right and it just doesn't seem like in the years in years past it just doesn't seem like the Detroit's I mean. Correct me if I'm wrong the Detroit's and the Chicago's can really get into the mix for all NBA level free agents. You have to develop them in house. Basically that just goes back to really hitting in the draft really. I mean getting lucky and then hitting that window developing guys without too much expectations. I mean the more you think about. It's like I understand now so when I first heard a decade ago I was all about tear it down. Start OVER BUILT FROM SCRATCH. And the more you talk to people on the League you see why nobody wants to rebuild because once you start rebuilding. There's no guarantee it ends ever within. Your job has got like once you go dance is GonNa go down on the pill right and the longer you do it. It's like man. Let's stay competitive. Like the Spurs pop. Pop there's just no way I'm doing this. I'm not going to rebuild for five. Years of my career is over anyways. I'm fighting this out. I don't even care right right. I mean you look at a team like the Pelicans they have a generational talent in Zion. An All star caliber player in Brandon Ingram and they seem to have like revived. Lonzo ball as like a as a potential star in the NBA. So they have to feel good about what's happening. There provided they can stay healthy. They also have some veterans in the mix and they can be really creative going forward so I feel pretty good about them. I think the team that I'm kind of curious about you. Know you mentioned the Spurs. I'm Sur- curious about the blazers. If they miss the playoffs this season. What do you think team like that? That does have one of the most passionate fan base is in league. They does have to allstars on their roster if they're like hey at a at.

"It's just that's going to be negative space. And he just don't have Gordon to really going to balance out the team anytime about a top heavy. They're playing Ben. mclemore Tana on a minutes. Yeah Ben Mc more he's starting yeah. I definitely expected macklemore to be like to step into the NBA. And be the next reality. Do you remember this when he he was getting that buzz. Yeah he was a top ten pick. I liked him can had a Kansas. It just did not happen for him. And I don't know if like just getting into the king system just completely just torpedoes he does. Everyone like just completely like sucks out his his confidence or whatever it is but if he cannot just hit open three pointers in the rocket system where they are just like in abundance abundance. I just don't know what we can do with them. But yeah they're down to like some guys that really shouldn't be playing heavy minutes for them and so that's why I'm concerned on the flip side though the other team or one of the other teams in Texas is having the complete opposite early season. Let's talk mavs too much. Talk on the ringer. Let's talk mavs. CHARKES CHARKES flag three questions before we started this in one of them. Of course like Ted maps questions. People Talk Luca Man. It's great apparel. Yes so let's start with this one. We have a few of them. We can get the two that are all kind of related. But let's start with Luca and specifically this is from D. fern if Luca Danni continues to maintain his current averages and form or slight slight drop how many games the mavs need to win for him to generally win. MVP So basically how many wins do the mavs need for Donncha too heavily legitimate shot. MVP repeat I'm an IT's Tou- if you're talking legitimate shot at MVP the bucks you're GonNa win like what sixty sixty five games probably. Yeah fivethirtyeight has them with sixty to to their projection. What are the mavs right now? Are they changed it since Wednesday so I checked this Tuesday afternoon and they were at fifty am. I think it's like for a second year player. There's going to be so much kind of resistance just from like a second year guy jumping the line a little bit. Probably like fifty five fifty. I I to me. MVP Talk a little. I'm ready to go there yet because I just think catskill fifty seven wins probably to be realistic right. If he's a fifty wins in awesome sixty two. He's not GonNa get the orders away. Yeah I think the thing that John are sorry is going to be up against is just that he is the newcomer and I think regardless guardless of how well he plays. He's always going to have that little like he's that's going to be used against him in so I wrote down sixty. I think sixty is bulletproof. If you get to sixty wins wins. That's enough to basically like discount anyone trying to knock him for this being too early or whatever. It might be Realistically I think it's probably closer closer to something that you know with the rockets got last year. which is fifty six? I think you do need to beat the rockets specifically yeah first. Shirts Harden is is going to be like the obvious comparison who has the better record of those two ships. Yeah I mean I think we are barreling toward similar result last year where Jaanus the box are going to win. A lot of games in Janas is going to play particularly well. Middleton has been now doesn't have brogden there and so I think he is getting more opportunities and just by sheer fact of taking more the threes and making more threes. You'd expect at least the scoring numbers to take a little bit of a height there. I think I think for Janas that helps to have that like extra thing because you can have to have a new story every year and now this your story is he has a three point shot and I think he's the Anti Load Management Guy. He plays all the time. Yeah that's right. He's the prime of his career. He runs around constantly. He's almost indestructible. Seems like hurt before I can remember even hurt I would. I guess. I don't think he's been to to the point of like Karl towns. WHO missed like a couple of games only because he was in a car accident but yeah? He's been really durable throughout his entire career. Yes that's a good point and he's always going to have. Also the the defensive argument and on the flip side of that harden will constantly be this. Just like unstoppable offense of force. He's also taking a step forward area in like progressing the narrative. You've he's flirting with forty points. A game as an average and we talk about will all this other stuff and so I I think to be paid his dues. I believe in that a little bit. Lucas got tunnel indepedence. We don't need to jump the line right the backlash brewing already. Let's not get out of hand with this thing. Yeah I mean listen look has a legitimate shot at this point I would put put him third because yes we talk about it. Being Ju- earlier maybe like the mavs schedule as Isaac flagged for me. It has been a little shaky at the same time they have the best offense in the NBA and they're currently sitting at the top of the NBA in net rating. Like that's legit and we'll talk mass for a second. Just I think a couple things that are happening. People really aren't realizing nationally that I made a big difference for Dallas last couple of weeks. Sleaze Carlisle's kind of figured out that Lucas dribble the ball the whole game. So if you have to dribble so it's not gonna work because Luka has the ball like no one's tongue lucrative of the ball up that means he's finding guys who don't have the ball so I he starring Tim Hardaway Junior sure and the funny thing is about Tim Hardaway Junior for as much grief as he gets. That man is always ready to shoot right. There's no t h j the catch. The ball's GonNa go up whereas like the law right. Seth Curry Jalen Brunson. All those guys are really thereby ball handlers. They don't like it in the rhythm of Luca Dom in the ball like that both ta J it's just catch and shoot catch and shoot. And that's a key for Luca's yet to have cats and shoot guys around them. Playing T H J more and they're using porzingus porzingas more off the ball like kind of cutting back on his posts ups. Because they're saying look porzingas your best Lucas Gin you shots. And you're getting upshots fast fast. SAY WE'RE NOT GONNA like post a million times and everything low. Low percentage turnaround shot. It's cutting off. The ball. flew capacity quickly and shooting and then like the team is being maximized on the bench guys than the bench. You've got like Curry Right Brunson. They're killing teams too because they have so many good point guards when Lucas. Not In the game. I think that really adjustment crawl maiden last week and a half it was pushed the mavs becoming a really good team this season. Yeah I mean we've talked about this to that the the fact they swung and missed yet again in free agency they didn't get a Kemba Walker. Another sort of superstar to pair with Porzingas and Luca Dodge as worked out in their benefit. They just seem like a more complete team and that's already paying off in terms of regular season record. They're currently fourth in the West at eleven and five and like I don't expect this this slowdown Specifically because what you're mentioning the deep If they have injuries a guy like Brunson step of employees more I think the question then becomes. What are they in the playoffs offs? And do they have enough in our these. Some of these kind of insularity guys who are filling in roles now. Are they going to be enough against the top. Heavy team like the Lakers. There's like the clippers seats to me. That's where it gets tough to send conversation as the jazz like the mavs their defense on the wing right now. It's Thornton medicine really good. And it's Tim Hardaway junior like those guys aren't guarding your big wings in the playoff series. Yeah I don't want to share anywhere near Luca I know. He's like on killing it right now though he's doing really good he suppresses energy Aj. But like I do worry in a playoff series in the bright lights are on all of a sudden. He's taking more shots than should I might. He just sub because he's playing Like the mavs like asking the guard like Bradley. Beal in the Bron- that right there tells you this team was championship solution. Yeah Yeah Yeah and I think this is a good segue to our next mavs related question which is from rhinos seventy-seven What move should the mavericks due to take them over the top and become become a championship contender? Do you have any thoughts. Yeah I mean it goes back to that Utah Conversation again like they need a three d wings on a guard. Lebron coli But everyone needs that. Like those guys aren't available and trades. Yeah I feel like if you were doing a segment on each team we would end up kind of just mentioning three wing. Wing Ism Boyd. Except for the clippers. Quietly those guys like centers like thirty years ago where it was like. Get at your big center to guard the pose. And that was the franchise player. Now it's at at six eight. Do everything wing without that kind of player. It's just tough layer in the playoffs. Yeah I wrote down a couple possible suggestions. One which I think is actually kinda doable. especially if it's not a trait it's more of a buyout. What about Andrea Dollar? I'd love him in Dallas. I feel like though he's prime good. La I don't think he wants to live in Dallas that his age. It's not a hot spot for someone like him. I mean he's a silicon valley magnet. Now he's we're not construe as it needs to be closer to his tech connections. Yeah I probably come via trade one of the big issues with the mavs and with this question in general so is what did the mavs really have in terms of assets. They have their twenty twenty one. I and they're twenty twenty three. I do chew the Knicks which means they can't trade and he pick until I believe twenty twenty five they can work with swap rights. But outside of that you really dealing from the core and in terms of younger assets. That's the teams would want. It's really what Jalen Brunson. Maybe it's really Jalen Brunson and I you know. I think he's pretty good but he's been like in the back burned last few weeks. He's kind of lost out with teams. been reshuffled so he played like three minutes the other night. Like how are you going to be a trade peace. That's again right. And he doesn't have the pedigree degree of someone like who could a round pick. Yeah Yeah I mean Dhillon right is another guy but as you mentioned. He's a bigger piece of what they're doing now and not a great shooter and I don't know the lawns that it'd be a big trade ship either true true. Let me throw this out as you just on kind of like the the lower level. What what about Frankie smokes? I've been saying for a while when he frankie he'd be perfect in Dallas. Could that team euro thing. I'm.

"To compete for the number one seed in the west and also like he seemed like a free clear-cut MVP candidate. I'm a little concerned about him. MM-HMM SO I might put him in the Cheer Below Zion and I think that's when you're talking about embiid crm. I might even throw in Ben Simmons. I hate to be The ringer employee here. But a where's Jason Tatum. And all of this because he's looking really good recently charts guy. I can't even take credit for him. I was is really hard on him earlier for the draft. He's good but to me. Him and Jalen Brown are pretty close. I'm not sure tatum. That much brown honestly. I think the two way potential of Jason Tatum. 'cause we're just thinking about a player to build around right And Al Get tatum. And you look at a player. Like Ben Simmons. Ben Simmons you can see the ceiling ailing if he develops a jump shot. That might raise the ceiling but not too much Jason. Tatum his ceiling is. I don't know Paul George. I don't know about that. You say that I like to me. TATUM passing the ball. I think of him and that kind of player. I think he's at right now. Well two point five assists that's a career high for him like that number up before talking about crm to me is getting up there. Like what can I do on the court. These days. He's guarding position. He skipped scoring. Willie's passing assing is defending. He's shooting you always becoming a legit. Yes trolling bead right. Yeah right Oh just to see the best Cameroonian player in the NBA Pasquale Kausikan. So this is a tough one. We're coming off a match up last night where they did win that battle Siaka managed to shut down the sixers late in that that game scored a big bucket. Shut down Allay possession from the sixers and then took an outlet pass and dunked it as time expires to really punctuate the win and also also gave I assume it was in b but also the sixers in general. "I think I had him ranked twelfth or thirteenth in the fourteen drafts. I think the main thing that I'm a little surprised about is that over the years. His defense has not been quite as good as it was at the college level in college. He was a consistently high effort defender and part of that was the level of competition. But one thing he always gave was intense effort. And maybe maybe part of that is like the circumstances. He's been part of Orlando Phoenix New Orleans, not all like having horrible seasons. But he's never been on a good contending team. Maybe it's been his environment. I don't know. I would be curious to see him in a role where he's not he's always been a starter to for the most part. I would like to see him in a role where he can come off the bench. A winning team and get back to what he wasn't college and on a high level where he did. Right. He did defend any did rebound. He's a great would if because as you're talking about him he's been with all these rat teams. What if he's a spur? You know, what I'm saying what if they get them with their shooting coach? And what if they get within that system, which he looked kinda guy that would fit within something like that that maybe maybe it's all different, you know, so much of these guys success and failure can be dependent upon how they fit out and who they get drafted by. But I haven't given up on him completely. And he's obviously had a good voice on earth with him his rookie year magical in twenty five games had to head coaches. They won thirty five games the second season twenty nine games his third season. And then he got traded from Orlando to Phoenix his fourth season. So losing count right here. But I believe he's had a different coach every single season of his NBA career. And he's never been on a winner. Either. I believe that's the case Vaughn Borrego skylines Vogel. Then he got traded the Phoenix, and then he signed with New Orleans this offseason. So I pretty sure a different coach every year of his career. That's crazy. So certainly wanted to highlight him because five consecutive triple doubles. It's quite the accomplishment in terms of games that are going out tonight. Let's quickly talk about the NBA watch of the night. It is the Lakers at the bucks on NBA TV. It's eight PM eastern time, which would have been I'm certain that we would have circled this a few months ago as a monster game down the stretch. Instead virtue of what is the Lakers. It is not necessarily a monster game yet, it will feature Janas who all eyes are on because he might very well be the MVP. We're going to be talking about if any of the awards can be decided in these last twelve games in a moment. But Lakers books tonight NBA TV at eight pm. What intrigues you? I think more than anything else. Chris. It's the poetic aspect of this game. Where here we have Jano sensitive Kumho who is possibly the MVP leading the one seeded bucks into the postseason where they could make a finals run, maybe win the finals with Jaanus. And then here we have LeBron James who was going to miss the postseason for the first time since his second season in the league the oh four oh five season for the first time since then, and he's looking older he got blocked the other night by Mario his own. Yeah..

"Does right now what do you think certainly a possibility last night we saw villanova take twenty seven of their thirty seven shots for three so that's nearly half and the houston rockets in the nba do take fifty one point one percent of their shots from three like just over half so villanova certainly does run what resembles an nba offense which made less sense game especially especially exciting to watch and the guy who took advantage of that chris dante even though unbelievable homes by him yeah for your purposes because i know you spend a lot of time evaluating players for in upcoming nba draft for your purposes does them being able to it doesn't feel like evaluation might be able to get a little bit easier if college more mirrored what the nba looks like because that's been one of the real challenges right with so many of these cases how does it translate to the next i mean i would love for more of the things to be adopted obviously the line is shorter but especially defensive three seconds if i could have anything that would be the thing that i would take out of college basketball that would help with evaluation for the next level i would think in terms of driving lanes in terms of guys not being able to just stand right in front of the stupid basket but do you know don't you think that if villa if more team started looking like villanova may be the evaluation process gets a little bit easier that struck me last night maybe but also maybe not because the skill levels is close on par is nba basketball understand but you know i think you know moving the three point line out to the nba distance would help you know adding defensive three second violations to make pains run less zone that would help as well as a shot clock as well there's those a long list of things really here's saying i'm watching villanova last night and i think you can watch those guys this is just me i watch those guys and i i don't think it's.
