Next generation Drive-In theaters are here!
"TRIBECA. A company founded by actor Robert Deniro and his producing partner Jane Rosenthal. They are staging a summer July drive in festival, offering new films like Palm Springs, classics like back to the future, and Jerry Maguire and stand up comedy on the big screen. And then the fall Tribeca is bringing NFL game so the drive in as well. Now my screening of Palm Springs started at five PM at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California. When I asked if that wasn't perhaps a Typo as you need dark skies to be able to project the film under the big screen, I was given a firm. No, we use LCD screens which are viewable from the cars I was told LCD like the TV's. We buy and put in our living rooms now to listen to the audio. They don't put a speaker on your car door like they used to, but instead they. They ask you to tune into a specific portion of the FM radio dial or use a Wifi signal to hear it on your phone. Food came from gourmet food trucks part of the rose. Bowl, which had several screens going at once now it's funny, because just a few years ago, drive ins were absolutely dead, only used for flea markets, and the like on Sundays and occasionally in very rural markets. They might shows movies. So I love their back, and I hope they make it. However I parked too close to the screen and could only see seventy percent of it unless I yanked my car chair back all the way. And the LCD looked bad as good as a TV does in a really bright room in other words, not so hot. The audio was great, but I had to keep the car running for two hours in order to play the FM that and it was a hot night so I need the air conditioning on as well and yes I burn through a bunch of gas, but you know I was glad to get out and I know now to park way in the back next time and to go to a later show when it's dark and most importantly to fill up on gas before arrive. TRIBECA is not the only company working on reviving the drive in there are several others around the country. Be sure to try it out and support them because who knows how long it's going to be before we can go out to the movies again.

Patrick Mahomes agrees 10-year deal with Chiefs worth $503m
"One of the huge headlines this week was the decade long contract that Patrick Mahomes lands in Kansas City. Will we see a ripple effect from that? Will that affect a deal for Dak Prescott? ESPN is Jeff Darlington. Will you know what? In some circumstances, I could have seen Mahomes getting a contract and maybe influencing the Doc Prescott deal, But the way it worked out, it actually won't know. I had spoken to some people before the homes got his deal done, And they implied that it Patrick Mahomes is in a little bit of a different air, No matter what. Um, Any quarterback that was coming up on his contract was not going to be able to demand that kind of money. The other situation here is that The home's ended up doing a 10 year deal. The contention between Dak Prescott the Cowboys the deck once less years, then the Cowboys willing TTO. Do they want to get five years? Dad wants to get four years. As a result, I think that the better calm pier is not Patrick Mahomes, but it's still Kirk cousins from a few years ago. Prescott now basically threatening to plan to the franchise tag and saying, If you don't pay me now, my price is only going to go higher. So this week will be very interesting. I still contend they going to get something done by July 15th. We'll have to wait and see those relationships take time, though. Nobody is patients in the NFL's. So what are you hearing about the relationship between deck and his new head coach Mike McCarthy. Look, everybody sees this as being really an ideal relationship. Personality wise, they really do meld quite nicely together, Doc, one of the most likeable one of the most enjoyable people to be around Like McCarthy, also the type of guy you can come in there and really work with Jack to a degree. Actually, I know the Cowboys fans don't want to hear this. But the relationship that Jason Garrett had with Jack I don't think it'll be that much different between these guys. And that actually is a good thing despite the outcome of Jason Garrett success, so Ah, lot of people expect this to be a really good relationship. I could, by the way, seeing This relationship prosper this year to the point where Doc next year winds up if he doesn't sign the deal now signs it later so that he can keep that marriage with McCarthy going

It's happening educationally through the c._d._c. Is that no youth. Coach should not be taking an educational program on concussions and the c._d._c. You actually have a coaching certification available a few months that we will be pushing like crazy to make mandatory for every youth coach that we don't waste these brain cells out appearance chris. You do have brains already that you've been doing research on. What are they finding through that research urge because i saw in the piece that they were doing sections of the brains and then they were analyzing it from that standpoint. What are they seeing all the the primary thing. We're looking inform on. Many of the things is the presence of a toxic protein called tau t._a. You if something that most researchers know well from alzheimer's disease these but we're finding also developed simply from trauma and so when you saw the pictures of the brains and you saw these dark brown specs all throughout the brain i mean that was a representation of this toxic protein that had killed those brain cells and so we're seeing that the disease actually selectively attacks ax areas of the brain that control emotional control attacks places of the brain that control memory and things like that and so <hes> we're we're seeing that whoa only unfortunate rushing pushing a snapshot of what the disease is done. We don't know when it started or how quickly progressed but we can see that. These men were walking around with profound brain disease at the n._f._l. Level you know as well as i do. It's kind of a conflict of interest situation. When it comes to the doctors. Their responsibility is not only to get the player healthy but to get them back on the field are are they in such a conflict. It's going to make it hard to deal with solving this problem well. It's it's it's become less hard because the n._f._l. Changed changed the rule and now if a player's diagnosed with concussion can't go back to play until they see an independent doctor because you're right that conflict of interest was simply simply so profound that doctors would be paying our hospitals would be paying teams have the right to be the team doctor. 'cause you get so much so many patients you reputation it'd be so big big and and so there are very clear situations including ted johnson story. Kyle turley has stores n._f._l. Players saying they don't felt they're given the best care the proper care because they new their doctor did not want to lose his job and would not fight for him and so they were mistreated and <hes> hopefully that will go away a little more now that not only do they have you see the doctors but also the athletes are much better educated and now understand why they shouldn't be going back and probably are going to be pushed around as easily chris. We've got about a minute before we have to break here but the the thing that struck me is that you had an interview that was done. I think in two thousand seven or part of that story that was done <hes> about the team physician representing the national football league and he just i could not believe him saying that they don't see any connection between a brain injury and some of the end result situations with players that there is is no information that connects the two together i mean it was just playing ignorance on the doctors part that represented the n._f._l. You know it wasn't planning. There's it's not like you hadn't seen the day of the doctor cast and there's actually now since step down as co chair of that committee but he he just he decided to create a absurdly high bar for what what he considered evidence and he probably wasn't going to be convinced until we had hundreds of cases of this and not just ten or fifteen that we have and so <hes> he was just the wrong man to be leading the n._f._l.'s.

Know this group of guys is that we need to figure out who may sneak onto the roster who's going to land on the practice squad and who is going to be out of here <hes> <hes> but for me i think the interior of the offensive line is going to be interesting to watch <hes> i think the linebacker group is going to be interesting to watch and i think it's going to be a a game where a lot of the weak areas will be spotlighted and that's where you can really pinpoint and say that's where they're going. Come waiver wire time <hes> whether that's the offensive line whether that's linebacker <hes> you know who knows it may be an additional defensive lineman but i think for now you really like you mentioned johnny really kinda wanna keep an eye on linebackers and offensive line <hes> right now in this game because is those two positions. I think the bengals will scour the waiver wire to get some bodies there. If if the bengals go that route do you. I mean are you. What's your confidence level in the team being able to find players. Potentially that can have a bigger impact. Maybe some of the guys that we've seen in week four of the preseason. I have more confidence and then finding out a rostrum lamp becker roster lonzo line offers. That's lamas. No no team has a surplus of often limited. Unfortunately guys we're getting are basically the same however that the cutting for ingles. Maybe there's a linebacker to give give them some some special teams value. Maybe play pension coverage whatnot got patriots at a loss of name but probably the deepest atlantic all right now and i believe guy of thinking of lead the n._f._l.'s teams tackles twenty seventeen. I ran that he was tested on the bubble. So maybe that's god looked forward with me but yeah. I think i think there if it keeps six linebackers i think the six is going to be somebody on the team right now. I'm not too confident <unk> entree partner with anybody even though i think they have a handful of beds to have somewhat of a value but yeah i would say more violent beker in if it keeps six exciting right now how how much of an impact if at all do you think this this week four game has on her confidence level preparation anything for the week one opener. Does it mean anything or is it simply trotting out guys to see to sift through kinda. Hey back into the roster practice guys guys that are in that's it. It never means anything for anybody that matters but just for the guys for still fighting harley. I like this is like the scouts time really just focusing on on bishops every game because these guys have the guy's not happy jordan. The guys that are playing are going to get cut and have to look for work at someplace else basically auditioning for another team so it's very important for those guys. It's not going to be pretty impressionable <unk> none of the stars playing for the entire game so there's gonna be guys like like we said the deep positions that unfortunately not take air but they can find someplace else in our own well <hes> the bengals take on. They host the colts to end the preseason. It's always every year <hes> the the preseason ends with those teams playing each other because of the proximity of the two clubs jobs but <hes> those two teams are set to face off this <hes> thursday night at seven pm eastern will have the coverage on since he jumped will dot com.

"N._f._l.'s that is looking forward it to make a difference and driving social change so what's the controversy there is anger because jay z teamed up with some such as couplings girlfriend nessa phil actively keeping him unemployed. She wrote an instagram so really how can jason n._f._l. Outta social justice in their partnership partnership while keeping cornucopia unemployed because of his social justice work happening has been team two thousand seventeen with allegations of team owners colluding to keep him on signed lawsuit has now been settled and according to mark garros both n._f._l. Jay z did not contact operate join discussions about the deal. The deal is already been done prior to competition company the had jesse had and he certainly didn't have concentrated in the throat. The lawyer said jay z says we've moved past kneeling and i think it's time to go into actionable. Items and this partnership can inspire and educate so again a very strange situation. I'm just not sure on what kind of the right answer is here because a one-sided i'm jay z went into. Take this whole social activism thing to the next level in that some kind of change but then you calling company saying hey. How can you say hey that team now. That isn't jay z's probably level of influence. That's why cops out any kind of sway to get the team <unk> owner to higher quality team and also as a team owner. I'm not sure i feel as if this i'm not sure how it would go. I'm sure if someone was super liberal or super-conservative and just was spewing lows of gun <hes> gun control rhetoric or talking about how great trump is and just as you know being on the complete nuisance. I'm pretty sure most n._f._l. Teams would still will do to save panic and no sign the guy all you know maybe keep them away from the press whatever may be but it wouldn't be welcome back with upper moms because they wouldn't want any attention to go away from the football right. You've seen what's happened with antonio brown right. The amount of love unrest is causing n._f._l. Just simply being a bit of a coke simply being arrogant but nothing to greatest you know he he he's he very much believes these own ability so imagine if you're calling capital and you've got the political angle of your very company or the ability you got your furnace concurrently vocal. You're representing a minority people who also incredibly vocal or who feel very unjustly represented or unjustly treated right for areas happen so far. It's probably recipe disaster. It is almost so west and if you buy in general we're going in the right direction. I think i'd like to see company back in the team again. I think that would maybe close chapter but i'm also a bit a bit missed about how he never regarded settlement which he probably isn't required to but if you're gonna do this stuff publicly protesting in such a public one big platform you other people some kind of patient about what you did so much now. What does that mean entailed hammers. You receive it meant. You had to have a guy go. I mean you couldn't say anything about what he's doing. Does it mean he couldn't play another team. I want some dios. That's a bit as efficient overall. I think it's a good dugo ford for hip. "I will tell you this in that regard which not going to do anybody a bunch of papers this week but <hes> if you go back it's it's not like <hes> the fountain of information but sometimes keep it simple stupid. If you go back and look at the scores in week one last year there were a couple of games that were low scoring. Most of these games were high scoring circus acts and then we too if flipped the other way where the majority of the games were lower scoring and it makes utter and complete sense that no these guys were playing sixty minutes football so if guys are getting tired appeared in the late in the game because they're playing a sixty minute game for the first time in over a year the offense at the advantage. They know where they're going. Tackling could be suspect so i would just say as a general rule of thumb look for overs as a starting point in week one then they get a full sixty minute game under their belt what they do wrong. They make adjustments in the defense has come to life and week to and it's it's a simple thing but i think it's a pretty sound starting point. Yeah you know i. I'm glad you remember that. 'cause i completely forgot about it. I feel like maybe maybe a week one last year. The over was twelve and four or thirteen and three some absurd number and a lot of those didn't even fall close to the total so i don't remember because i don't know they flew over well and then i remember us talking on the show about you know in in any league whether it's the n._b._a. Football whatever the biggest adjustments come from the first week to the second week or the second week of the third week. I remember we're talking about that here. On the show of you know what do the oddsmakers do with these totals now for week two then furthermore even into week three so yeah we'll see i do you wonder if it follows that mold and i also wonder if the and i probably shouldn't wonder this but i wonder if this works remember that and we'll bump these totals was up a little bit or be more aggressive with their line moves in week one well. I think what happens and you know. The odds makers are trying to generate array to act and we'll sit there with this cautionary tale then we'll say till you're blue in the face. Don't overreact to what you last witness <hes> in recent years i we'll say this <hes> you were seeing wine moves in n._f._l. Games but you're seeing on a week to week basis adjustments that you're like wow in the n._f._l. This could be week seven to week eight based on what was last seen and i think that's the oddsmakers just the you know the public's going to do and i think what will happen is if i think the other thing even though that was the case last year here if you have high scoring games in week one gonna shake totals up in week two <hes> because that's what people saw and so on top of the games likely will be lower scoring but the total is may actually be higher..

"What what are the real issues in your life. Let's talk about those trump has done that more successfully than bernie sanders. I say this someone who is not pro trump but he has done it more successfully accessibly because bernie has given in too much to the other distracting authoritarian agendas but there is a there was i shouldn't say there is there was a commonality between these two men which was how can we go above this bad politics which has taken the western world by grip and talk to ordinary people about what's concerning them and their everyday lives both of those had that instinct i think bernie has jettison instinct and has gone too far down the crew so i think you're apps. If you people want to take kind of calmer retribution in the fact that he's going to be destroyed. I think that's fine find because he made bad choices. It's just crappy. It's yes it just is but okay so let's link back to to the populism that you're talking about so i understand that and then what what is either the connection or disconnection between that and then nationalism then veers into what we should all be worried about which is actually ethno-nationalism yes so i think national populism is a pretty good thing because i think the only way democracy can work in a real way like i mean meaningful democracy where everyone regardless of best station in society regardless of how much money have regardless of how much education they you have. Everyone has the right to an equal say in how society's organized. I think that's an incredibly important political value. I think in many ways is the key article value. The only way that value can be upheld is if you have a coherent nation a nation which is not interfered with too much by outside forces which is not bossed around by a foreign oligarchy like the european union which by the way can write laws the us british people must live by even though we have no direct mechanism for pushing aside the people who write those laws to its fundamental outsource all your freedom people in brussels amazing right so we don't want to outsource all freedom. We want to outsource all democratic decision making processes but that's what has happened so i see national populism as an attempt attempt to recover the ideal of democracy and and borders are actually central to the idea of democracy because if a nation doesn't in control its own borders than it really isn't a nation a tool and if it isn't a nation a tool than it cannot have democracy which can only really in any meaningful sense. Take take place within a nation humanity has not thought of any other way that democracy can work although the intonation so when somehow people sort of think that borders are are somehow against freedom but actually the only thing that ensure free absolutely and i think the riot nation to police borders into control his board. What is this is essential now as it happens. I'm very liberal on the question of immigration. I would like a liberal policy on immigration in the u._k. N._f._l.'s but i think the onus is on me to argue for that in the democratic sphere rather than having a situation where in europe for example the european union determines how how many migrants country should take less implicitly anti-democratic over here in the u._s. You have a situation where you have these supposedly radical eccentric democrats who just think everyone should be able to come to the us regardless of whether they come through the legal port of entry regardless of whether they tried that's through in the in the reasonable way they think that people should be able to swim into the country and do as they please what these things having common is an hostility towards the idea of borders but it's an haas hostility towards the idea of borders. That's not based on freedom but is is based on the idea that the nation is is a bad thing and that democracy is a bad thing and we should just throw everything open and allow other people to decide the fate of the country ah democratic..

Legends and so it's my pleasure to bring in herm edwards arizona state last year winning record in the pac twelve seven and six overall first of all coach this college things interesting her and because in in the n._f._l. You get countless hours to practice in college. It's reduced to seventeen hours a week herm. How much of a struggle is getting that information into that tinier window of practice. Well you make a great point and it is about information coaches or knowledge college providers and you have limited time. Efficiency is is one of the things you have to consider but also what are you asking these players to do and i think you have have to simplify a lot of things in college football and the fact that you don't have the time as you wouldn't n._f._l. And so with that being said the better better players <hes> the more simple you can become because you figure like you're you're good athletes will win out and so here we go again talking about athletes of they recruited right and that's that's what college football release about it about recruiting. You don't have a lot of returners offensively. Last year you ran the football and you played great defense in fact that that went over michigan state <hes> was i thought an incredibly well coached well played game considering that staff was veteran and yours was a brand new staff half and over the course of the season you had some big wins <hes> again. You don't turn it over run. The football play defense well. We needed to play that way last year knowing that we were gonna probably play a young quarterback and lo and behold. We're planning freshman quarterback light. I think you had to establish that last year a little bit of identity and then also as you talked about defense defensively i think in college football you need to make some stops stops or critical than college football this about scorn the ball and how can you limit possessions while you limited by controlling the clock in not allowing fourteen to fifteen divisions. Keep it in n._f._l. Pays around twelve we were able to do that and as you know we were in a lot of one score..

It's era of of a protest of this this entire era of n._f._l. But it was really about trying to win back a segment of the n._f._l. Population that-that abandoned the league and be quite honest like that that population was overwhelmingly overwhelmingly african americans now. I don't know how this is going to reflect in viewership. I don't know how it's gonna reflect in sales but this is this. This is gonna be a fascinating point for the n._f._l. Because while they think they've loop pass this era i don't. I don't know how the n._f._l. Actually move pass it because at this point colin colin kaepernick is who he is. He's he's never. I'm like you i ever since that whole collusion case came up. That's never going to get back in the league and and if i've ever wanted it to be wrong about anything what couple of days i've wanted to be wrong about this. This is definitely high on the totem pole. I would love to see him backing league. I would love to see them having another chance to play but just the fact of the matter is i don't think that's ever going to happen but even even if a lot of people feel that way he still in their hearts he still in their minds and they a a lotta people will not be able to get past that essentially because of this partnership not i. It's great that you mention that because that's actually the truth and no one knows i'll be going to you know reacted back to this <hes>. "It's he's bender camp that he's picked up on some traits or some ability to play wide receiver more than he had lose georgia. So i decided to give is on. I i want to see if his speed is really close. This tie retail level where it doesn't matter if he's not particularly good at getting off the line of scrimmage if he's not particularly good at setting defensive backs suppler getting vertical. How good is that speed when he's out there. Where's he lining up. Does he have to be off line of scrimmage. Does he need a free release the effective or can he he beat somebody scrimmage from time to time now the preseason kinda tailor made for somebody like goldman though he's playing against guys most most of the time he's going to be playing against quarterbacks backs that are fighting for depositions or to barely break starting lineup. When you have a guy that has superior speed. He should shine in this situation. I doubt comical. Hartman gets only first team reps. He's going to be playing with second team quarterback against second team corners. He should really shy when that happens. He should be a guy making place he. You should look really good if he's not letting it starters so that's kind of what i'm hoping to see from him. I'm excited to finally get is on because you guys have seen him a little bit. I'm excited for football excited to talk about what we're going to see. In this upcoming season that is going to change from years past and some of that of course involves the N._F._l.'s rules N._F._L.'s officials which <hes> for a brief moment where fulltime at least part of them are full time and now that is no longer the case joining us to talk about the rule changes for the two thousand eighteen season and I talk about the referee situation is going to be the person who covers us very well for us here at E._s._p._N.. That's what it is. twenty fifteen cardinals video twenty eight finished one hundred sixty two lost in the division series in two thousand fourteen the as forty nine thirty finished eighty seventy laws awhile card game twenty thirteen pirates for forty nine thirty finished ninety four since day laws in the n._f._l. d._s. to rag hey when my pirates lose they never win anything anymore the play offs very irritating to me you get the gist of it anyway so ten of the eleven teams played worse after their hot i have although all eleven reached the play offs the dodgers are going to win their seven consecutive division title and they'll break the franchise mark of one hundred four wins by the twenty seventeen team they might get one hundred and ten wins it really is truly incredible and the yankee surviving their injuries that's been crazy yell it's is insane how he became a future all famer and four hundred plate appearances i mean it really is crazy but the guy has just absolutely he's on base for sixty home runs he's on one hundred forty seven games played and if be homers at the same rate for the rest of the season plays every game he'll be just the six player to hit sixty home runs and the first since roger mares sixty one nine.

"Of g._m._c. sports podcast just finished time with the n._b._a. now let's go back to the n._f._l.'s we are close to the super bowl but i must ask you this is a very important question i've been thinking about tom brady is making his third consecutive super bowl appearance which is a great feat no doubt about it and it hasn't been done i believe since the bills in the nineties when they lost four straight but my question to you is if he loses this super bowl and he loses to straight would you say this affects his legacy was this a serious question why i'm saying like will people look at more of a like he hit was great in the beginning of his career in the rebels and then he kinda lost it at the end of the super bowl run this is a serious question i'm give me your honest opinion i'm just making sure that this is a serious question like if you lose than people say he's not the greatest quarterback of all time i'm just saying like is the mystique gone a little bit i don't know why that would be to straight you don't see why that could be a he's in the super bowl every single say okay the bills went to four straight super bowls awesome all four win at all yeah if he goes to they went is he one granted he's one five but two in a row he's laws that would say like oh he could have one more he could have been better we could have one more even if he wins this one and so i'm saying like even if he wins this one how many did you lose see that's three four that's a lot yeah i don't know i don't know what you're what you really want me to say that i think that i think somebody who would who would say that this affected his legacy i think that would be a ridiculous point of view that i really wouldn't entertain to be honest with the because he's in the super bowl every single year pretty much what half of his career he's been in the super bowl every year like half like every other year he makes a super bowl in his career and it's only gotten more and more and more as he's gotten older older older so it's like i don't know he stills the most successful quarterback of all time and he will be no matter what happens sunday and if he does it against unday it'll just be a higher mountain to climb for the next person so true and i feel bad whoever's next quarterback in new england that's for sure but i think and then you got to look at the hater side and what i mean by that is deflate gate and tuck rule and all these other aspects i spy gate as well and people really kind of a lot of people really push that under the rug at the end of the day yeah i mean it is what it is he's been suspended for cheating individually his team has been forfeit draft picks his team has been fined and suspended or reprimanded so they've been they've had a forfeit draft picks like you mentioned so yeah i mean you know things have happened for sure and if people say that that goes against his legacy they're gonna feel the same way no matter what even if he wins next with five six seven super bowls in a row i mean people are still gonna say yeah but he cheated or yeah but they cheated like that's kind of one of those things are you lend yourself available to when he decide to do something outside the rules i mean if you get caught then people are going to always question since he's been accused of being a cheater and he got it for there was a there was vide- someone video record it was like someone random on instagram recorded the ref sang got your back to brady during one of the final drives in the a._f._c. championship game and there's been a lot of that in where the refs like shake their head or nod their head to tom brady of some kind and there was also this is something that live people don't really look at but there was i think those two three years maybe sooner.
