"Actually here in Charleston forecast area. Not not a whole lot. We we did get some some rain. You know, one to three inches say between the Charleston Tri county area and the south santee river, which is the northern border of our forecast area. But a lot of that fell during the during the day Sunday Saturday rather, but we have we really dodged really dodged a bullet with this storm. I a lot of drier air continue to circulate around the southern side of this storm. And if you look at a radar presentation, all the big thunderstorms are apt to our east off the Atlantic. And they're wrapping back into southeastern childcare are south eastern, North Carolina and then back into northern South Carolina, and we're kind of the dry air right now. So there's not a lot not a lot of wind very little in the way of rain at this point. In fact, the radar looks very very similar to the way. It looked last night. This storm was not too much farther east last night for where it is right now. No. In fact, we have a we have a. Radio affiliate that listeners are listening on that is in Georgetown and just halfway between you and Myrtle Beach. And and they you know, they hadn't had any brunt of it there. They were on the edge of that. It seems almost Myrtle Beach was dividing line. The north side of town seemed to get hammered the south side of Myrtle Beach, dodge, the bullet, would you say that's about the same thing that you noticed. Well, there's there's quite a bit more rain in Myrtle Beach, right now actually didn't there was when I was in office about twenty four hours ago. So I wouldn't want to completely call call this off yet, they're still some some very heavy rain in the vicinity, but but certainly the heavier rain, the catastrophic type rains that we've been that you've been hearing about definitely occurred farther to the north up in south eastern, North Carolina. Yeah. And in fact, I'm looking at those rains in Myrtle Beach area right now, and they seem to be starting to stretch their way down toward Georgetown and one band that literally hugs the border between north and South Carolina. And so you've been on the dry side, the whole time out of this. What was your rainfall totals again? I'll have to take a look our rainfall total here at the airport yesterday. I believe was just under an age. But let me double check that for you. Looks like here at the airport zero point nine eight inches. So we were just under just under an inch. And and I live about twenty miles east southeast of here. The airport, and I had a little bit over an inch in my gauge, and we did get some reports. Some folks have had around, you know, two to three inches of rain up toward the south santee river. So as you went north, there was definitely definitely a difference. But we did not get any reports of flooding anything along those lines. It looks like we had. Yeah. Route three inches up toward the south. He river, which is where we expected to have your rain to fall. And there's not a whole lot going on up in that area. Even tonight. It was definitely wetter in that area last night about this time that it now wh- what are the driving conditions like. Driving conditions here aside from some small debris on the roads. Get a lot of pine needles. We have a lot of pine trees in this in this part of the world a lot of small limbs leaves. But the roads, you know, we didn't get enough rain to really produce any water problems on our roads here locally in the Charleston area. But still there's there's quite a bit of debris on the road that gets wet. You've always got to be careful driving. The roads will get a little slicker than you might otherwise expect. But but overall aside from a scattering of trees and tree limbs on power lines. And that that sort of thing.

Neill Borowski was a federal prosecutor in Manhattan, the image that just resounds for me is just the image of of bankers in their suits and ties walking out of the building with their boxes of files, and and personal belongings, and that sort of look of hopelessness, and and that really that fear of what's next if these institutions could fall, what does that mean for for all of US, Congress soon approved a seven hundred billion dollar fund to shore up the crumbling banking system. It was called tarp the troubled asset relief program, and you'll Borowski was appointed inspector general his job was to oversee how the government dispense that money. Now, ten years after the crash I s Borowski what he sees as the funds legacy. You know, it was extraordinarily important in helping to stop the financial crisis to sit of blunt its impact and keep the banks from failing. But of course, the flip side of that legacy is all things this tarp fund was supposed to do. But it never actually did. Because it wasn't just about saving the banks. When congress passed that Bill was very important that it helped not just lost street, but main street so we're supposed to help restore lending to the middle class small businesses. It was supposed to be used to help struggling homeowners who are being thrown out of their homes through these foreclosure crisis at a record pace. And I think that the fact that the policy makers in Washington didn't ensure and didn't pay the necessary attention to those goals. I think that's part of the real legacy of Tarpon. Even today, there's still so much anger surrounding these bailouts. How much do you think tarp contributed to the wealth divide an inequality that we see today because as you point out banks got help, but millions of homeowners went into foreclosure, and a typical worker did not get bail out like the big banks. Yeah. It's more of the opportunity cost. Right. It's the things that tarp could have done, but didn't do and it all went in to help the big banks. And of course, as a result. You've just months really after the bailouts. You saw these sort of almost record-setting bonuses returning to Wall Street, you saw huge amounts of government money tarp money that essentially went into the pockets of the very AIG executives who brought that institution to it's knees and the global economy alongside of it. So you have that image on one side of of literally government money going to these executives and on the flip side, just standing by idly as people lost their homes, their their livelihood, and the government just sort of blindly looked away and let it happen. I was gonna ask whose fault was it was at the treasury department, and the White House was at the banks that we're supposed to allocate the money differently like who failed to send the money to a wider range of places. I think the responsibility really falls squarely within the treasury department banks our banks, right? I mean banks are going to respond to. Whatever incentives and requirements that they have they're going to try to make as much money as possible. They're not here to provide a social purpose. They're going to serve their shareholders. But the treasury department had an enormous amount of leverage when it started pumping all this money into the banks in return. They were required to they were supposed to restore lending that was sort of one of the key phrases of the time is going to restore lending, but treasury never put that into the deal. They never said, okay. We're going to give you this twenty five billion dollars. But you know, what you need to use some of it to increase your lending before the crash ten years ago people were making false assumptions about risk like they assume that home prices would never fall that unqualified borrowers would never default on their loans in large numbers. Do you think that today there are false assumptions that people are making that are comparable? I think it's undoubtedly true that that is the case I think that is the nature of capitalism. I think as long as there's. It's been a financial system. There had been bubbles that have been based on on false presumptions and financial crises are in some ways, totally inevitable. For me. The bigger question is are we prepared for the next crisis? Knowing that one is going to happen. Are we in a materially safer place than we were in two thousand and eight are we in fact safe and how do you answer that question? We're not safe. I think the answer I think we are safer. I think that you look at the post crisis regulatory reforms that went into place, you addressed some of the issues that were at the heart of the crisis banks are required to have more capital on hand. So that when losses inevitably com as part of the next crisis. They have a bigger buffer before they're threatened with bankruptcy. And then that's a good thing on the other side. One of the reasons why we had the bailouts is we had a handful of institutions that were so large and so interconnected that the failure of any one of which could bring down our financial system today. Those banks are bigger they're more interconnected and in many ways. Just as if not more dangerous. It's good that they have more capital more protection. But it doesn't seem necessarily that. It's enough to withstand another crisis. Plus you have the probably even bigger concern. The political winds have changed a lot in the last few years, and you have this big deregulatory push going on in Washington that is undoing each of those changes. And that really does threaten the Brazilian see our system when the next crisis inevitably comes Neill Borowski, thanks for taking this trip. Back in time with us always happy to go down memory lane. Thank you. He's former inspector general for the troubled asset relief program today. He's a partner with the law firm Jenner and block in New York. "The Myrtle Beach area will have more from ABC news coming up at the top of the hour. The predator the fourth film in the predator movie series opens nationwide today, and it follows a group of mercenaries try to protect a small town from an alien invasion. I. Tourism? Trabant road, sterling K Brown, Keegan Michael key, Olivia Munn are all in this. Brian the movie guy has seen it. And he's here to tell us what he thinks of it. Good morning. Yeah. I was so excited for this movie. Not because it's a predator movie. But because it's from director writer, Shane black. He brought us lethal weapon. The last boy scout kiss kiss bang bang. The nice guys most recently, I love his work. And this movie really is pales in comparison to the one thousand nine hundred seven original this is a sequel. It's a pseudo throwback to that to that Schwarzenegger. Classic this one trying to pile too much on its SCI sci-fi. It's monster movie. It's hor it's comedy. It's an action mash up it is not unlike well, let me say this. There's comedy in it. He's very good writer. But then it comedy becomes too much. It's like dipping a chip into a party of case. So if you take too much case, so that ship is going to crack, and that's exactly what this movie does it also falls victim to choppy editing one dimensional characters, and then special effects that dazzle, and then fizzle they're just on and off against route the whole mood. Movie. I will say though, all that being said there is some fun to this giant predator hunting people and there's an even bigger predator hunting that predator. So there's a lot going on two stories convoluted, but it is fun. But also, forgetful, lots of gore, lots goofiness, I'm going to give the predator a C. Plus, so you reading chips in case. Oh during the movie. Yes. That now breakfast. There's another one called a simple favor, Blake lively, and Anna Kendrick, or in this one and people have been describing it as sort of an amped up gone girl. But Kendrick has a better analogy for the film. You know, it's like bright colors, and it's during the daytime, it's like nice lighting. And it's almost like if like sex in the city like if Samantha went missing. But it's like for real is missing. It's not like, where's Samantha? It's like, okay. But really, where's the mantha? All right. Is that an accurate description? That's fantastic. And I love Anna Kendrick to that's a great way to put it. I was calling to gone girl light because it is a much lighter version. Very similar version of that movie. It's it's about betrayal. Lots of twists turns intrigue humor. I don't want to say too much. But I didn't know what to expect to win in this. And I absolutely loved this movie. It's a great way to kick off the fall moviegoing season. It's sexy. It's stylish sinister just a really five. I love going into a movie, you don't know what to expect. When you come out. Pleasantly surprised I will say this. I had a friend asked me is this a girls night out movie or a date night movie. My knee jerk reaction was to say girls night out because of you know, because like what Anna Kendrick said six in the city, but it has a Blake lively, and Anna Kendrick, so guys you should go. See this too. I'm gonna give simple favor a B, plus very fun movie. All right. Have a good weekend. Brian the movie guy Friday mornings here on the KOMO morning.
