A highlight from How Did I Get Here? (Travis Greene)

"Hey, this is Steven Furtick. I'm the pastor of Elevation Church, and this is our podcast. I wanted to thank you for joining us today. Hope this inspires you. Hope it builds your faith. Hope it gives you perspective to see God is moving in your life. Enjoy the message. Elevation Church, wow, wow, wow. So, first of all, what we're not going to do is act like you don't have the greatest pastor in the world. Come on, can we get real noisy in this building and all around the globe for the Pastor Steven Furtick, Holly, Eliza Graham, Abs, love you. I'm excited to be here. I'm black, and that's just how we're going to start. We're going to start there. My are roots Pentecostal. Pentecostal is like a fraternity or something. They'd be like, that's my dog. It's not a frat, but I was going to use a headset today so I could dribble with my left hand, but I woke up feeling preachy, so I told them, give me a handheld, because we about to go up Elevation. I love Pastor Steven. He is a songwriter. He is an architect, and he is the greatest communicator in the world. To be on his platform is beyond a blessing, but something funny happened to me. I told myself that I would be validated as a good preacher when he invited me. Let me tell you how gracious God is. He refused to allow me to be invited as long as I believed that, because when heaven wants to affirm you, it doesn't use opportunity, it uses opposition. I know you're anointed not by the stages, but by the scars that you got. I need you to high -five your neighbor like you in Ballantyne and tell them, I know I'm anointed. The struggles that you overcome reveal your anointing. We know that the oil on David worked not from the throne he sat on, but by the giant that fell at his feet, and if open doors can make you, then closed doors can break you. Quit waiting on man to validate you. I'm afraid that in our churches, heaven believes in us, and I'm going to tell you something you never heard before, hell believes in you. This is why the devil and all his imps and wimps have been coming against you, because he know how much you carry. He doesn't bother you if you're not a threat, but if the devil has been trying to come against you and your family and your neighborhood, I need you to give God ten seconds of praise like you know no weapon formed against you. Shall prosper. Come on, praise him like you're an overcomer. Praise him like the battle's already over. I'm not praising him for a victory. I'm praising him from a place of victory. In Jesus' name. In Jesus' name. And so I have a very prophetic word for elevation. It's really for the Columbia campus. Because they up the street from me. But if the shoe fit, you can wear it in here or Orlando or Greenville or wherever you're watching from. I told them to send me a list. It was too long. What y 'all do have is some campuses. My God. We're going to be in Mark, and it's my custom to share the title after I read the scripture, but today I'm going to share it before. I believe God is about to bring your name up. I don't know how it happened for me. I was minding my business, and chumps texted me and said, are you available? And I'm wondering, how did my name get brought up? God's about to bring your name up. Because this is the season, hear me, that God ain't looking for gifts. I got degrees, but I'm going to talk how I want to talk. God ain't looking for gifts. He's after hearts. There's so many people that can sing, man. We don't need another song. We need hearts like Chris and hearts like Jen and hearts like John. Man, we need hearts. God's about to bring your name up. Here's the title for today. How did I get here? How did I get here? Let me preach because my wife told me I take too long to transition. I'm not going to show a family picture. They're all on the ground, but my wife is a dying piece on the front row. I love you. Mark 10, 46. Then they came to Jericho. I teach at Ford City that you can't just read the Bible. Oh, snap, you've got to read the Bible. It's the second read. Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with the large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus, which means son of Timaeus, was sitting on the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me. Many rebuked him. Don't you hate when you're sitting next to the loud one? You're like, okay, I get it. You grateful. I am too, but my God. They told him, be quiet, fam. Jesus. You ever brought your mama to church? I said, mama, I'm preaching at Elevation. Do not come. My mom be tearing the whole row up in the back. I said, be quiet, man. But he shouted all the more. I love that. Son of David, have mercy on me. I really want to preach this next verse, but I got something else to preach. But the next verse says, Jesus, stop. Whoo. There is a DB, if you're into audio. There is a frequency. There is a shout that is packed with enough desperation to get a busy Jesus, a focused Jesus to stop. Oh my God. Are there any praises in the room that know how to get him to stop by? Come on, the only reason I'm in church today is because he stopped by. The only reason I'm in my right mind is because he stopped. The only reason I didn't cut somebody this week is because he stopped by. He stopped by, he stopped by, he stopped by. When he stops, anything is possible. Who am I to deny what the Lord can do? Whatever's impossible for you is easy for him when he stops by. All right, let's keep reading. You ready to sit down. He stopped by and said, call him. I like that. So they called the blind man. Cheer up! On your feet, he's calling you. Now the way my imagination works, I wonder if these are the same people who just told him to hush. That's why you can't listen to people. One second they saying hush, next second they saying cheer up! Cuz, what do you want from me, dog? I mean, throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet, came to Jesus. Here's Jesus. Jesus is really funny. He said, hey, what do you want me to do for you? Blind man's like, ah, let me see. He said, Rabbi, I wanna see, man. I like this. Go, Jesus said. has Your faith healed you. Your shout has healed you. Your resilience has healed you. Somebody, it took your last 20 to get to church today. That's the thing that healed you. The fact that you believed in spite of what you were facing. And the Bible says, I like this word, immediately. I feel it coming, all of a sudden. Immediately. This ain't for everybody. This is just for 50 people and a two year old that can give them a praise and say, that thing about to happen quicker than you can even imagine, immediately. Immediately. He received his sight, followed Jesus along the road. How did I get here? Lord Jesus, I'm gonna pray a prayer. You ready? How did we get here? Amen. You can take your seats. All right, how did I get here? How did I get here? How did I get here? This past week, I went to North Myrtle Beach. That's where my dad is buried, where my mom is from. And we went there to visit my grandma. My grandma is 92 years old. Yeah, yeah. Her classmate was Harriet Tubman. My grandma is so old. She's seen many presidents. And I walk in and my grandma, she's like Isaac. Her sight is fell on her because she's up in age. And she's sitting there with her snuff. You're not from the country if you don't know what snuff is. No teeth, but snuff. I say, my grandma had 14 kids, y 'all. After 10, you don't even feel them no more. There's another child. They just, she got 14 over 40 grandkids. And I walk in and I'm like, grandma. And she's like, whoa, who's that? Get over here. And I go over to her and I say, grandma, it's me. And I can't talk, y 'all. I got speech impediment if you laugh. You laughed and that was not a joke. She's like, ah, I thought it was just me. And my speech marks me. So my grandma, she knew it. And she was like, try this. That's you. I spent some time with her. Something about when your sight is felling, your senses are heightened. And what's interesting about this text, I learned this from Pastor Furtick. You preach every line in the text. So the first thing I want to acknowledge in this text is that the blind man is in Jericho. The word Jericho means fragrance or to smell. Isn't it interesting that he's blind, but he can still smell the roses? So I want to tell you, don't allow your low place that calls you to miss the beauty of the season you're in. He's in Jericho. This is not a mountaintop message. Because most of the people who are asking, how did I get here, aren't on top. You feel like you're at the bottom. You're asking, how did this happen to me? How did I get here? My last great memory was a wedding photo and now I'm a widow. That was my mom at the age of 29 when my dad died on a Sunday morning. I was five years old. How did I get here? How did I get in the back of this police car? How did I get in divorce court? Come on, y 'all, don't look at me in that tone of voice. How did I get here? My life was heading in one direction and then one decision, one thing caused me to get into an uncertain, unfamiliar, and unexpected place. How did I get here? How did I get here? How did I get addicted? How did this happen to my child? How did I get here? And you may think, you may be sitting here thinking like, man, my situation's rough. Listen to me, your situation cannot compare to being blind in the first century.

"Yeah, we're final countdown with the inside two weeks, march 13th. We're really excited. Hopefully I can get it off the wait list for next year for the dad bod. It sounds amazing. I'm looking forward to it. Do you get a time that you got to time that up, you know, you guys start thinking about that if your dad bought participation and when you're going to potentially conceive a child you got to I think people got to start playing for that. No doubt, I should have planned that a lot better. All right, jizzy. I appreciate you appreciate you joining. Congratulations to both of you on the fourth ever Barcelona classic champs. This will be the 5th annual 2023 bars to a classic. So we will see you guys at TBC Boston for that. We'll see everyone at Myrtle Beach on Monday for the kick-off of the event. Frankie Trent will be there. I think Dan will be as well. And then I'll obviously Frankie singing the national anthem. You know that, jizzy? Wow. Well, you're a musical guy. So you pop punk, so are you good singer? Dude, and actually went well at where were we? Oh, yeah. It went well. It went all right in Arizona. It was my, so when I sing in pop punk, I have a stage. I have dark lights around top of the crowd, and I'm really not seeing who's listening to us. And I'm also behind a drum set, and there's all this music. I can kind of just let it go. Way different than standing in front of a bunch of sober golfers at 8 a.m. in the morning, just staring at you. And you're singing a cappella, just no music. Horrific. So I felt like my first attempt at it, I kind of spoke through it and I'm going to try. I'm going to try different things out. I might turn my back to the crowd this time and just kind of let it go. I don't know. Yeah, I'm just going to just turn my back to it and just rip it and then I'm just not going to care if it's embarrassing. That's the thing you have to get over, I feel like you have to let it go. No, no pun with frozen and singing, but you do have to let it go. Do you make like uncomfortable eye contact with people? I was staring at people. I was staring at Linda portnoy. Miss port, I was staring at misfortune, as I sang the national anthem, and I was just like, I can't mess this up. The words? Victor Davis Hanson: Public Pressure Forced Biden to Act on Balloon

"To apologize in advance for what we're going to have to suffer through tomorrow night as grandpa Joe stands there at that massive podium and takes credit for things that he has no business taking credit for, it is and I'll bet he makes the Chinese spy balloon a centerpiece of tomorrow night State of the Union. Victor Davis Hanson was a guest with Dan bongino over the weekend on Fox News channel had some pretty solid analysis as Victor Davis Hanson always has on this massive failure by the Biden administration waiting until after this spy balloon completed its mission going from the northwest all the way off the east coast of the United States before finally shooting it out of the sky over Myrtle Beach. This administration could have taken this thing down as it approached the Pacific or over the aleutians and our airspace or water space, but they didn't do it. And I don't think they would have, and I think you're right unless somebody had saw it. And then the explanations kept changing. They said, well, it's just a weather balloon. It's not very sophisticated. They can find it by spies. And then people's pointed out, well, it has a capacity of two buses, so they must be experimenting with a big payload, and they could have weapons significance. And maybe this slow moving balloon can take more accurate pictures. And then they change and said, well, we wanted to protect people, and we were afraid of the debris. And Montana's a pretty empty place. And so I think public pressure finally forced the administration to do that. But if we had done anything like that in China, we would be on the brink of a war.

Taggart Houck: Alex Murdaugh's Son Has Kept Quiet During Trial

"You're talking about the horrific loss of life of two family members of the murtaugh family. I know you've covered a lot of stuff in your tenure as you worked in Myrtle Beach and now in the upstate my gosh, even to a reporter like you, this has got to be eye opening to see the details of this case. I mean, I've just got so many questions for you. If I could start with one of them, I see the surviving son buster is sitting behind his dad every day in this courtroom, does the sun support his father who has been accused of such a heinous crime of slaughtering buster's brother and mom? And Mike, first of all, thank you so much for having me on, it's great to talk to you this morning. Thank you. That is that I think a lot of us are asking ourselves in the media. We've seen buster walk into the courtroom every single day since the jury has actually been selected. So essentially, every single day of this trial, we have seen him walk into the courtroom, sit behind his father, and he is always with his uncle, John Marvin Murdoch, as well as Alex sister, and then buster's girlfriend. But I think the big question, you know, a lot of people wonder if he's supporting him. We are not able to speak with buster. We have been asking him questions as he's walked into the courthouse, but have not gotten any answers. He is, though, on the defense's list to testify, indicating that he is certainly someone who is cooperating with the defense on this side of this. So I guess if you're wanting to draw the lines, you could say potentially that he is, but public, we have not seen any comment from buster at this point. It's been very fascinating to see him in the courtroom and kind of the way he's even sitting in the courtroom with some of his expressions for the most part has not really shown much emotion during his trial.

Blake Masters: Mark Kelly Has No Excuse for Supporting More Inflation

"Mark Kelly is a fraud He's your opponent He's a fake He's a big supporter of the inflation reduction act Now Blake you're pretty smart guy You know economics as well as anyone We got the CPI number today And core inflation is now the worst it's been in 40 years I'm only 47 Blake I don't even remember 7 years old I think I was playing wiffle ball at the corner of 64th in Myrtle not sure in Glendale but it's been a long time since inflation has sucked this bad How does mark Kelly wiggle his way out of this Him and his Democrat party supporting a hilariously named Bill that is made inflation worse since his past But what's his excuse for that Well he doesn't have even very good excuses right You saw him try to wiggle his way out of this last Thursday A week ago on the debate stage And I think I put him on the ropes I mean I think I really crushed him How could he expect to defend his record when it's just indefensible And the inflation reduction act isn't that such a funny name right They passed that two months ago Well shock surprise inflation is just going up and up It's like Obama's Affordable Care Act Did that make healthcare affordable No it sent prices to the moon right The Democrats their orwellian with the way they named these bills But people are just sick and tired but most people in Arizona are waking up to the fact that the inflation reduction act So called was actually just a $700 billion tax and spend Bill It's making inflation worse and that's just why we can't change leadership soon enough

Joe Bastardi: Will Hurricane Ian Make Landfall Again?

"First off this is going to make landfall again correct Ian and when it goes out and exits the Florida land mass there and gets back out into the ocean is it possible that they could become a hurricane again I should have said likely of course it's possible is it likely to become a hurricane again and where do you see it going Georgia South Carolina Well to refresh what we've said at weather belt we said from back on Tuesday this was coming back out with hit as a hurricane again that would be a double hit and what happens is that I'm in the private sector and as outstanding as the forecasters are in the government and they are we have to try to hit these forecasts and try to be ahead We have to give people information So if you follow me on Twitter you follow me on weather Bill you know what I've been saying So the national hurricane center remember on Tuesday was keeping it in line and just killing it over southern Georgia We said that we go out and just coming out Now that sounds real pompous you know my dad used to say if you have to tell someone you're good at something you can't be that good at it Day and age This day and age we have to have to make sure that people understand that whether it's a story part of the problem with the climate change situations people don't understand that the weather is a story not a snapshot because someone could use a snapshot like this And say what they say So as far as this storm goes when I looked at the 11 o'clock hurricane center forecast it looks exactly like ours from a couple of days ago and I think that they are right on top of this now We look for a landfall Someplace between Charleston and Myrtle Beach

"Welcome to the song you travel podcast. So on my travel park cast is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, there's something to be said about going to Myrtle Beach for sure. The climax is a plus but that's just the start of what put Myrtle Beach on my list. There is a reason why so many people over 60 live there. Whether you rent or buy a place, you'll probably have a smile on your face, especially if you're coming for the east or West Coast, golfers will they die and go to heaven with some 90 courses. There will be many beach days, but there's a lot else going on. You could do Sunday gospel brunch at the House of blues. Well, the brilliant work at the art museum where the beat will take many excursions like the brook green God is that more veils and lit. That's about an hour south of Myrtle Beach is a national historical land walk over 9000 acres of carbon in history. It's home to more than 2000 works by 425 artists. The botanical garden has been called one of the top ten britannic goddess in America. They also have captain George or you can eat crabs for UC food lovers. They have a wax museum with actual King Kong hanging from the museum. They have Ripley's if you're wanna go swim with the sharks. They also have this the boardwalk you will love that is very beautiful on the boardwalk. And there's a lot of places you can shop and eat on the boardwalk. There's also a Ferris wheel on the boardwalk. There's to say that if you go to. The Ferris wheel in the middle of the night, it is supposed to be haunted. You will see a little girl in the sand. But y'all people who likes the mystery of ghosts, what else can I tell? It's beautiful. It is beautiful. It'll be just very beautiful for the people of very, very friendly. Some places, okay, some of the places that you can stay, they have beautiful views. But according to some of the people, there are not giving great readings for the quality of the services. They saying that it's not clean enough for them. They're saying that the people are not funny enough for them. But if you happen to stay at sand dunes, there's a little convenience store around the earth, her name is Raquel. I told her I will let you all know that she is so friendly, so nice a nice real nice lady. But overall, it's beautiful, it's really beautiful out there. Most of the self to me is beautiful anyway, because the self is like very quiet people are very friendly. Most of the places I have been. The people are so friendly, so it's like. Coming, you know, you have friendly people in New York, you just gotta find them. It's not like New York, you know, with everybody's in a rush, you know, some people, you can speak to them, they like it now. It's talking to them, you know, some people could be rude, but you also have friendly people in New York too. And one thing I can't also say about New York is that if you insert in places and you need help, someone is bound to help people. They are. There are bound to help you. In the south of people are very friendly, but everything is so far. Like the convenience stores are so far, everything is just so far as really distanced. But overall, the hospitality is very great in the south. I don't know what where the happiness come from. Y'all, y'all hear me say this sometimes that I'm not always happy. They always happy. If you're a coffee lover like me, it'll be to have the worst coffee. Words, coffee, I have ever tasted from the time out from the places I have traveled to. And I have traveled to many places, but they have the worst coffee. So I say bring your own coffee, but go out there and have a beautiful time. And I like to thank you for listening to my podcast. "Four countries in the Caribbean for less than a week in Myrtle Beach. You can go on a cruise. And if you wait, you know, you got a cruise and they sell this cruise. It's $500 for a ticket. It's a 9 day cruise. You go to four K go to grand Cayman, you go to Jamaica, you go to Belize and you go to Honduras. Wonderful cruise. And, you know, if you realize, if you keep your eyes on that, the cruise ship, they want every room on that cruise ship to have a person in it. Because the cruise ship banks on two things. Number one, you're a gambler. Number two, you're a drinker because if you're a gambler and you're a drinker, they're going to make a shit ton of money off of you. Because a beer, a beer on the freaking cruise is about $8 a beer. You know, it's expensive. But see, I don't really drink. And I don't gamble. But here's the thing. If you white and you watch and you go, the cruise is taking off, it's going to lead next month. Wait, wait for two weeks out. In two weeks out, look at the process because you'll notice the prices start to drop. The price is I had a couple that were friends of me and my wife, that got a 7 day cruise for $200. $200. And also, Richard, don't forget, you could bring in a bottle up a couple of bottles of alcohol in your bag and then just and just make your own drinks. Well, you can. I mean, you're not supposed to. But you know, I know people that have them bags they're like they're like C two bags. They pour the liquor in that. They put it in their wives, makeup bags. You know, and that's what they do. But at the end of the day, you can go instead of going to Myrtle Beach where Myrtle Beach the ocean stinks, by the way. And number two, everywhere you go 8 is, you know, tourist food. None of it's really that good. And everything is expensive in Myrtle Beach. And you can go to, I mean, everywhere that I've been all over the Caribbean. Me and my wife have been going on cruises forever. But I mean, you know, you eat amazing food, it's just a great experience. You know? And you can do that. I just want people to realize that in this lifetime you have to realize you have a start point and you have an endpoint. And everything in between is what matters. And if you want to live your entire life and work 6 days a week, ten to 12 hour shifts where you hardly ever get to see your family and once every 5 years you can take 5 days and go to the beach, you're not living..

And I totally cut that thing down and cut the the brush down to around it and put content 20 on it. Well, The problem was an insect problem. Not a fungal disease problem. If you ever read anything we've ever done about black sitting mold, we actually last weekend, uh, recent on Facebook. The story about the crape myrtle bark scale. When I don't want to give you a hard time about this, but you're black on your trunks of your Cramer. It'll that was probably Cramer will bark scale You didn't need that knocked the tree down. That's controllable, and we actually have a tip sheet on that we posted a week ago. But for the most part you could Google Google search my name Randy Lemon and Crape myrtle Bark scale If you ever want to control that Black city mold is a function of insect problems solved the insect problem first, always before you just attack it with Constand on the Black City mole because they will keep coming up if you don't solve the insect problem first, uh, real quickly. "Squad is out and fans are losing it over interest. Elba always right. He's kicking ass looking seriously doing it. Always but he's got a sweet side as well listen to what he told us about falling in love with his wife. Sabrina sabrina. she's such a nice person. Someone that really cares for me and for people and family and she allows me to be myself so i love her for that. I mean the hottest. Are you kidding me. The very cute. Hello here's a hot topic. Do you feel pressured to have kids. You guys okay. It turns out more and more women are saying no to motherhood over the past three years. There's been a steady decline in babies born in the us. Some think the reason is because more people celebrities included have been open about how hard parenting can beat but others think. Women just feel more empowered to say now. I know you guys have thoughts on this do you thing. Do you feel pressured to be a month not anymore. I don't okay. I think probably in my early thirties. I started to feel like. I'm so let me say this. I've never wanted kids okay. I've just never been have. Do you feel judged by people when you say that out loud. Because i know friends won't say that out loud because they feel like people are judging them. No i just. I've never cared. How people took it to be honest. I just never have rare though. I never cared. How people were taking the only people. I cared with my parents. Yeah because i felt like wore. My dad wanted grandkids force. My mom's always been like do what you gotta do. Girl you know. But she 'cause she raise kids meals. How much work it is. But i was a little bit of guilt for them but not towards Never felt an obligation anybody else. But i did start to feel like a little societal pressure to like. Settle down half kids. But i've just never really wanted them my offer. I think that that's completely fair anything. It's so great when you know that i literally had a conversation with a thirty four year old woman two days ago and she literally said out loud we were talking about babies and she was like you know what i do not wanna have children and this is the first time in my life. I've ever been comfortable to say that out loud. Oh i totally. I totally get that but you know for me. It's actually the opposite. Like i've always wanted kids like always been a thing for me and i'm like if one more person tells me i should freeze my eggs. I'm going to punch the by the violent person. Not like my. But i'm like i i'm i am thirty four. I understand there is a you know there's biological clock but i'm also like i have a boss who just had a baby a perfectly healthy baby naturally at forty insert their opinions reasoning the eggs. It's like there's a whole wave now if you want to freeze your eggs crate where you don't don't worry about it when people i honestly feel like we're in a place now where you came to him but he knew new relationship their newly married or engaged when you gonna have kids. You have no idea what somebody thing. Yeah you're gonna find a man beating enga- getting married when you having kids when you're having another another kid. The other is second kid questions. You're like i just popped one right where you can get into a relationship. Winning wins the rain coming. It's like can we chill day day. So twenty twenty one. We trying to figure out what we wanted. And i really did. Sit back and twenty twenty. Because i've said for many years that i didn't want children to me i have like our lives are very busy and i'm so exhausted all the time. I can't imagine tell you. Brain literally can't wrap around like barely take care of myself but i did think twenty twenty like. Is this something that i wanna do. I really made the decision. That all of the the pros having a child where things that were selfish like. What about when i get older. Will i have somebody to take care of me. He's weren't these aren't reasons to have children round because let me talk to keep a man like these not reasons to bond with my man like that is not not the way to do now is not the reason if you're going through a rough time with your main at home and you think a baby is going to save it. Let me tell you that when that baby is screaming and things have come out of that diaper in a yellow color. He's not going to be like. Let's get it on baby me. It's a different. It's very for for somebody like me. That does wanna have kids and like when you get the judgment of like. Have you thought about freezing. Your oh you know what i get mad. I got my eggs check like i'm fertile. Myrtle but like do. I need to put that on my instagram handle nearby on thank you like check back in a few years right and i think now it's okay to just be these days. I've latently say to people with. I think they're being rude or anything about a woman's body recently closed the gap in my teeth. And i've had people message me and say like. Oh miss your gap and i said well you should get one. Yeah there you go you jacked people love to project all these bodies like crazy. It's me.

"The Murder Farm": The Story of 19th Century Serial Killer Belle Gunness

"Bell and mads lived a relatively quiet uneventful life in the suburbs. There were no more fires. No suspicious payouts. In fact there's hardly anything to note from this period of her life but then in eighteen ninety six one of the foster children under bells care died and then another in eighteen ninety eight officially the cause of death for both was colitis which is a chronic digestive disease. Not one batted. An eye at the diagnosis. Colitis was common enough at the time and no one dreamed of blaming bell. In fact she went on to adopt three more kids. Jenny myrtle and lucy without any problems but in more recent years there's some suspicion that bell might have had a hand in the children's deaths. We don't want to speculate too much here. Given that there's no real evidence to back anything up but for reasons that will become obvious later on many now suspect that the colitis was caused by strychnine poisoning. If that was in fact the case then that was the first time bell killed. It's hard to understand why she would want to kill her foster children. But we simply don't know what was going on in the household at that time. Whatever it was by nineteen hundred forty one year old bell was restless. There's nothing to tell us why but she wanted another fresh start. She reminisced about the last time she was able to start from square one. How easy it had been to set the fire. Get paid and start over. She wondered if she could set fire to their new house and get the same result but she had to admit the doing the exact same thing again might raise eyebrows so she tried to think of other ways to get similar results and then she hit on an idea. Maybe it wasn't a place. She had to get rid of but a person.

"And take little winter now So we started downsizing. Valentine's day because flowers are expensive. It's extremely stressful trying to make two hundred deliveries in one way. So we literally usually unless there's some special cases if a cop calls me got married Hit it and starring oliver flowers. Rio for your free sweet digit way. Yeah your holiday. I love getting into your head and hearing like it's that's what's really fun about doing this. Podcast is the the things that you know. The business leader decides is the kind of their mission values their process and and when you said i boycott valentine's i just think that as a florist to say that you do that. That's a pretty strong stand kind of all you know. I'm kind of quirky that way. So i didn't notice that on your Instagram i should go back and look and see what you were doing. In the month of february jamaica stand about that or do you just go quiet. And i think again become more awareness that allow people are. Maybe are all valentine's day i again. My mother taught me had hall. Take care of neighbors in people. And so i think i posted something about that. Like love your neighbor today. In doesn't mean flowers it might mean birmingham pine a suit. Urine made over emphasized how. That's so lovely. I love how you think you know you think about people more than you think about business because someone who is it just what you said. You're you're being sensitive to the people that might be lovely on valentine's day instead of trying to capitalize on a big revenue generating holiday. I i love that. Thank you ought to ask you. What's your favorite flower. If you want a month you know. I like i love cocks. Combs in a random. I know but. I just think they're so beautiful. Know i'm a. I love my roses i do. I love roses which is pretty boring. I guess but really wildflowers to just love to go on a walk and grab whatever and half the time. They're probably weeds. "Back. Yeah absolutely. I love that. I love it. Just it's an eight. It's no big marketing plan or anything. It's just the way you grew your business you know and you took your passion a passion that you had made it a business for yourself. Birth fortunate career marketing at the indianapolis chamber of commerce and it really has transferred so many skills might business not most of all just carrying people and helping create some really awesome on one of the best days of their lights on meet. I have no really honored dude idea in anyone who works for will tell you that they're happy person so i work in the car night. Attorney and then. I get to see hans Funeral our end sometimes girl just one bride into to be a pad that whole process. Then wrap it up when you walk in and you deliver this book. Hey baiter cry or smile and it's something you said really interested me. You will plant a whole row for a bride. That's i didn't even think about the planning that goes into it. So you might meet with the bride. I mean obviously months and months ahead of time and you make a plan and then you have to specifically garden for the bride once in a while doesn't mean for everyone but if somebody comes for example there was a coral and there's some beautiful corals india's and i was able to based on win. Her wedding was no that those flowers would be glomming entered season. And so i planted coral venereal giants for her running sow a high love that i love that it transfers into more than just the flowers though with your with your design At least according to the picture so talk a little bit about how you the the you know what a typical what you typically do for a bride and groom for their wedding brides and brides and grooms. I mean we can't yet yet on so Really meet love of really nice long leash. I would rather somebody said these are my holler or my dresses and my dress and then we choose so instead of someone coming. Just say i just want and wash just coming. We green dresses. And amy do what you like. And then we're able to choose the vast flowers there in season Playing with the color wheel and really you know organically design something that just is beautiful and reflects season for example spring. Flowers are so happy News so we don't like the whole bunch together they they need round a move in the fall as colorado side. We liked to blanket things in a little with a little more weight. Romar greenery in college. So we really try to educate the cobbles is just letting nature do what it wants to do in the season we're getting married and then now he beholden to certain things. You're excited we would never. That's one of the most important questions that any force. Yeah is there something that makes you answer scratch and is not lower that your averse to not say someone gave you a certain flower and its associated with this just experiencing your life. You don't wanna give somebody that makes them issuer traders emotional response that they do not want on their wedding day. Gosh yeah. I didn't even think that that would really stick the ex. The ex used to send blake flowers and suddenly they appear at the. Yeah that we try to car to make it make it hurt. Perfect but yeah yeah well they. The pictures are beautiful. Looks looks as perfect as you can come to it. So how much does the venue play a part in it. All event news in indianapolis are so fun right now and they're such Extreme of environments Arns are still popular. Industrial spaces are just super high right now but the news are really our customers new. And we're fortunate that venues we've worked with. They signed us almost for us all the time. We don't do any advertising in its relations with people like you Different advice their findings bake piece and the the staff at the venue on all that. Just makes for bruce running day. Because there's there's value harnack Is neural and when you plan your life without you have no idea what's going on behind the scenes but everything is just kleiber and when we can work at that venue we just we have a siro least when someone comes in and says the marry enacts mustard seed garden on the north side. They have phenomenal the cure by people and they are so good at what they do. So it's a big piece in people need to look at more than one of the space. They need to work call staff because they're with you for twelve hours and that's a big piece meyer pangkor. Yeah yeah hell. Common is Your type of company across the country like how many other flow you know. Sustainable morris exist yet. it's growing and in business has because that's the way the world is so for example we do about fifty events year. There's an average of five hundred pounds of waste her way to last like twelve tons of garbage. Just just for the group of weddings. That i would do. If i wasn't sustainable. "Hello everyone. I'm so excited to be here today. It's a beautiful friday. Yes we're taping on a friday and it may makes me think about What we're going to talk about today because it starting to be that spring type weather where weddings going to be happening and Last you know this last year with the pandemic has been so kooky. All of our lives have been up. Rooted changed you know affected in so many ways and the i kept thinking because i was having so many conversations with friends colleagues and family members about weddings their weddings being delayed. Or you know just trying to figure out. What are we going to do. Are we gonna still have the wedding or begin to you know. Have everybody wear masks. What are we going to do. And i thought you know that would be a really good topic to cover on the podcast And then one of my daughters sent me An instagram page. That they said mom. You gotta follow this and you need to have this woman on your podcast and it was our guest that we're having today But before we go into that. I want to ask you sawyer. Did you have friends and family members that were like stressing out over the wedding thing. This summer ahead actually just received a save the date for my cousin's wedding. That's happening this fall. So i'm pretty sure that they dealt with that a little bit trying to balance everybody's schedule in trying to get everybody to come down south on the same time. Yeah i mean you you get into your own little bubble about what your stresses are and then you think about all these people who you know planned and planned and planned and then you know boom. The pandemic happened but So our guest today is An a woman. By the name of amy bo sir and she is with a company called molly and myrtle and Super excited that charge and selflessly our sponsors make it possible to have her on her show today because she Has company called molly. Myrtle ed it's a. She's a flower armor and she implements sustainable whimsical original wedding designs to reflect nature. Which i know is why my girls told me you have to follow this The company is committed to reducing event industry waste and they use compatible materials and absolutely no floral foam which we all know about floral foam So like i said. I wanted to talk to her while and i thought she'd be great to talk about the sustainable wedding industry but also just like kind of what happened with the wedding industry as a whole over the last year. So i'm amy to the show.

"We had an email this week. From maxine to fred a plan talk. Radio dot com. And she here. It is middle to late. April and my crepe. Myrtle hasn't sprouted out yet. Any suggestions will patients. Now let's start there crepe myrtle night. She doesn't say where she's from. But crepe myrtle is Let's just say tenuous here Down in the cincinnati area over to marietta and so on. I don't think it can be a the concern. I had a type of crepe myrtle that was a smaller tree that i grew actually a humongous pot. that i would roll away and cover the pot in the wintertime. That is a way of decided that house bring it back out. The spring lived. I think for nearly ten years Two freezes at bonafide freezes it. approximately this time of year finally killed it. One took it back to the ground and it grew again. Couldn't really recovered. So i lost. I lost a dollar way. Back in time The lady and i knew each other from work experience we into a discussion. I told her you know any any spring. You're going to have to expect that. Great myrtle not to leaf out she was her comment. She said fred. It's been there for fifteen years. I said yeah. But i'm still gonna win. Well mark we. We each took out a one dollar. Bill rolled them together. Stuck them in a crotch. That tree and i said any year. That doesn't leave out. I'm gonna come pick up your dollar and mine okay. Any year that it does leave out even though late you get. We'll just leave them in the tree. Yeah well one spring. I thought i'd won. That sucker was late. It didn't come up at all until almost late. May then some sprouts came up. She said i got you. Y'all said no no no next year is the last year well. I one which was unfortunate but at the same time mark. I don't know how to answer her I i would say that. In a car essentially a southern tree it would be delayed in growth. This time of year depends on where she has it. What part of ohio. She's in and so on. So i have to suggest that crepe myrtle can be grown here with considerable risk i would always use it in what. I'm going to call a secondary position. Where if dis dis and you can put another one in or change trees It's not one. I would want to depend on however this lady street got to be at least twelve foot by fifteen foot. Fifteen high twelve wide And we argued or discussed this tree over a great number of years so they can work. I would not be surprised at all of hers. Hasn't booted out yet. And then in the winter. I don't think was very hard on plants. In most cases it could have been killed. It could have been maimed But i would tell her a kind of hands off for another three or four weeks yet and then then go into deep prayer..

What to Do About a Shady Backyard Where Grass Won't Grow

"We also had a question. This week from sarah and she sent us some pictures to which is very helpful. Says fred my backyard is seventy five percent dirt. Grass is gone. What can be done now as we talked about pictures here fred. It looks like she has some very large trees or some larger trees and some large shrubs that may be giving quite a bit of shade in that area. Okay well that gives me a big clue especially if you can tell by the pictures. In terms of the size of the trees trees compete in two ways as shrubs and other things but at the same time Lawns are meant for open. Clear sunny skies for all intensive purposes. Now there are variations that theme but large trees shade grass so it cannot manufacturers much food they cause the atmosphere under themselves so to speak or or under the tree they cause little higher humidity for the most part grasp doesn't dry as early in the morning therefore subject more diseases of the leaf and so on and then they compete drastically compete with grass roots under under the tree Now having said that it's not impossible to go along. And i think she just flat out going to have to start over the first thing to do at where we can't see it for sure but if she can or if an arborist should be doing you can raise up with the head of the tree you can cause the limbs to be a little higher above the ground You can send the tree out and literally soon it out. Take some branches in appropriate places. Let more light down through the tree. Let more breeze blow through the trees dry grass encouraging better growth in the grass and so on it is however still very difficult in many cases under trees to grow on I have indeed on many an occasion where people prize the tree or they prizes position shading their patio evening etcetera etcetera where. We don't wanna hurt the tree at all. We will simply take out the grass. The remnants of the grass or just very lightly work the top two inches in terms of maybe some more organic material. some peat moss and so create a bed in which we're going to fly ground cover. They didn't matter of selecting the ground. Cover i'm gonna say such as myrtle pakistan eighty There are many many things that can be used but it comes time where you either manage the trees and check it the following year or two if the grass is growing better you you leave well enough alone. But as soon as those trees get a heavy hit on them again and continue to compete underneath. They're going to kill the law. That's just all there is to it for the most part. You just don't see lawns well. Lawn light grasses in the middle of wood so at that point you go with mother nature and created ground cover bed. It's well or what. I consider a total disaster would-be to take out the trees. That's that's not my first recommendation ever Rather work with them and on several occasions Without hurting the tree by covering the routes very much we have built up just slightly to get above the tree roots. Now one one of the infamous trees for lawn damage is norway. Maple they they just don't like grass. I swear it's written in their genealogy but They're they're so dense headed rooted and so on I've never allowed for more than two and a half inches of really good up soil being over the top of those roots. Because we didn't want to run a rotor tiller down through the roots and causes damage to the tree roots. So we build up just slightly In most cases now in one case the lawn slope the good bit where we add it only one inch. I'm going to say on the high side. And we put a little wall and put twelve inches of soil over the roots downhill side however Where the roots normally cover the entire area of the top of the tree. We kept the wall in under the edge of the tree. So that the roots that were exceeding the width of the crown could would not be damaged by extra soil. And it's been quite successful. That was done. Twenty twenty a couple of years ago and i've driven by their time or two cents and the bed is still doing quite well. they have gone on out toward the west side down side. All's well and they don't they don't about ruined their shoulders with the bumpy more and they don't ruin the trees roots and the grass is gone not to be worried about.

"Donna is calling Don, It's good to have you with us. And what is your question on garden sense? I have a crate Moral and I guess I used to cut it down too soon in the spring. And I don't know whether I should prune it or not. It's like about 7 ft. Tall, I guess the break all kinds of branches coming out you could but all the best time to pull them as like in March early April Anything that is thinner than a pencil. You should cut out how you can actually not really hurt to create model by cutting away back. But like Norway's happen anything that thin that in the pants off, cut it off. Then you feed them the same time that the garden trust given two ounces per foot of plant height. And be sure to create models in full sun because it is not the full sun is not going to bloom, either. And then, like when they start growing, and sometimes you get spot like this year with all the rain, A lot of people got mildew on them, and they have to spray Mr Mangoes have because otherwise Flower birth machete, and they will never open up so in spring touch up through them. The end of March, beginning of April, feed him in the garden crushed if you get any fungus spraying with mango zap And that's what it has this you could check the PH of. It's too low. Thank you Give us a lime also, and if somebody is going to get a crate barrel, I mean they're gorgeous trees in the summer. Do you have a preference of the color is one hardier or last longer than others. No, they're not all the colleges despite your own preferences, the white of the purple director all same hardiness so it makes no difference. And it like it is some people don't like the three great mood only started the bush If you want a tree doing it After this way by bomb leave only one standby. Could the rest all off. At that stand, grow taller, and you have to make it three out of it. Have it all devised all growing bushes. Ever still the bushes they can get still 2025 ft tall. All right. So what other flowering trees are there? That last as long as a crape myrtle, I mean, you know, we've talked about dogwoods, but the only flower for a week or two. And if you you know, blink your eyes. You miss him. Yeah, but he's a bit the dog will send the cherry trees and, uh Crab apples. They all bloom Only this, maybe two or three weeks, depending on the weather at the Craig murder was the only one that can bloom almost all summer. So that's why they're so popular because in the summertime, there's no other tree that blooms self planet Crape myrtle, but be sure to plant them in full sun. If you just planted me shaped now, girl, fine, but no flowers. The newer varieties bloom a lot longer than the old common crepe myrtles. 807 to 16003 is the phone number on garden sent its radio garden sense dot com online When every detail garden information, you'll find it there. "Uh, I'm going to get a tree service out to take him down. My question is what What has to happen to the route to the stump and root. Keep on from, you know, growing back. Oh, if you Do it, right, Um, stump grinding on that stump that route, it won't come back The magnolias, not like a crepe myrtle is gonna pop up somewhere else. Or ah tallow tree. He could seemingly do root pruning and stump grinding of the tallow tree. And six months later, I was suddenly new baby's coming from somewhere around that that won't happen with a magnolia tree. Okay, Well, that's exactly what my concern was, is. Did it need to be dug out or if you don't want them anymore? Yeah, you can dig them out. Root, prune and stump grinding. You don't have. Frankly, you don't even have to do Ah, stump grinding. If you just cut it down to the ground level and then treat that surface with a little stump killer her beside if you drill a few holes inside that Little bitty trunk. Uh, put some brush killer herbicide and their cover it with plastic or a Ziploc bag wrapped a rubber band around that keep it locked in place that will definitely kill everything through the root system internally. And then you'll never after worried about it coming back, But you can't plant anything in there for six months minimum. If you want to do this, the herbicide treatment that's why we have the Stump grinders, because once you get all those roots out and get those the routes cut away from the stump with stump grander, then technically speaking in that six months, you can go back with something else. That's more of an accent tree. Okay. You kind of bird. Good. Okay, That's why I needed so get that done first. Then talk to me in six months, and let's talk about replacing with another choice is I don't want to Much money your mind right now with those thoughts when you need to focus on the task at hand. Won't be replanting anything. It's landscape with shrubbery, and this trees just kind of Yeah. I don't know where that idea of planning Magnolias right up next to the house. I know. Well, I have a theory. You know, they think it looks good when they're baby Magnolias look great as an accent tree, But if you're gonna look if this is forever house They're gonna have to come out because they're going to be a threat to the foundation one day soon, and the other part of that is a tell you these landscapers that this is a miniature magnolia are a little Jim. It's not a miniature his still going to be pretty big. Not going to be the southern magnolia, but it's certainly not gonna also be a tiny little VAY Tex tree either. So when you get this removed if anybody falls in this kind of category, just like Cory, If you want to talk to me in a few months after you've done, the removal will kind of hone in on a choice for you. That could be a good accent Small tree to replace these magnolias that air apparently planted right up next to the house. So many subdivisions. He stay sad.
