"Army is for vladimir guerrero. Junior wadham your garage three homer game. This came on april twenty seventh. So we're going all the way back. To the first month of the season we remember the offense struggles at the beginning of things into few weeks of the season and the blue jays. Have that fifteen to one game against the angels and mechanics got off the ground in terms of the offense and the kept going from there and flatties three homer game at the end of the month. April twenty-seventh was a big moment. And i think it was at least for blue jay fancy as incredible month but this is the moment where he first arrived. He hasn't really at this point in the season arrived on the national stage or the international stage in terms of baseball. But i think at this moment he arrives for blue jay fans. We can say okay. He's for real and there's just so many records from this game that are pretty amazing The youngest player in mlb history with three home runs and seven or more rbi in a game the seventh youngest player ever with three homers in a game the youngest ever with three homers in a game with one of which being of grand slam one of four players since two thousand to hit three or more home runs in a game before his twenty third birthday the youngest player in franchise history to have three career grand slams and the eighth youngest hitter in history to have three career career grand slam so just a bullet list a grocery list of records for the blue jays and for vladimir guerrero junior there and watching that moment at that point in the season it was pretty cool honestly like with the season that grill had just you look back and you think howard these possible. How are these numbers against max scherzer. Like he's one of the better pitchers in the league pitching for the dodgers in the nfc s right now. He is one of the premier pitchers and grows able to take him deep. Cia charged him for four runs any extra charge them for five. I'm staking wherever that first homerun was but to see things like that like the blue jays were down. I think four to two. At that moment. they're able to come back without homerun. They end up winning the game. It was it was a weird moment. Because i mean i think and we'll get to this later in the season or later in the episode there were a few moments where you're thinking. Ob it'd be nice to hit a home run here or it'd be nice to do this and finally breakthrough and then to see. It actually happened it. Just it's a culmination of very good players. Finally stepping into their into their zone and for vladimir guerrero junior at all star season all-star. Mvp probably the mvp of the season or of the american league. it's debatable and i'm not really sure how that's going to go. But he was one of the best players in the american league and really one of the best hitters. Probably as dan schulman put it the best hitter on the planet. This season you just the most consistent hitter. Yeah there were sometimes where he kind of dropped off. But even his drops were still major league average hitter type numbers so amazing season for him and amazing moment to really take one of the one of the veteran premier hitters the guy that's thrown multiple no hitters gather. Almost had a perfect game. Like this is like if you're if you're looking to hit a big time home run against big time pitcher yes. It was only in april. But these are one of those moments that you're talking about in for vladimir guerrero junior great Great overall season. But you know you look at games like that. And if he was not the player that he was this year he wasn't on the blue jays roster. They probably wouldn't even be hundred. I'll be. I'll say it. Plain simple one of their best hitters. Probably their best player overall and to be able to do things like that just on a regular basis like this guy hit almost fifty home runs. I think we're we kind of forget. Just how good he was. But against max scherzer great to see. Obviously you hate to see good players and good respected veteran players get rocked but when your team is the one doing it. It's okay so like it just it was a it was a fantastic moment and really it was the entire game too. It wasn't like one home run and that was it like it just. It seemed as if everything that hid has hit his bat. Just left the yard so amazing thing to see again. You wish you could have seen something like this in the playoffs. Because i think it was entirely possible but I'm just happy to see that things like this happened. And also last thing i'll say is he is still a blue jay for many seasons to come so this is not as if all they missed out on a good season by guerrero next season they're scrambling to find a first baseman all. He is somebody that staying for a long time. And i hate to use this. You love to see it. And it's it's. I don't know it's just. It's one of those things you love to see. And he's a guy that will be here for a while and probably be putting up these numbers for quite a while to i mean vladimir grow junior for that run hatrick against the washington nationals. And it's something that. I kind of actually forgot about later on in the year just because of how long ago it felt like it felt like it was ages ago and obviously to that was back in the dunedin days when. They're playing out of td ballpark to start off the year. So a lot of things have changed since then and a lot of things did change. It just felt like it was so long ago. And i'm sure this is not the only time we are going to see if vladimir guerrero junior hatrick but yeah he takes matters deep twice. I think it was kyle finnegan. He took deep for the third time. I know but i do know. Two of them was officers. So that was obviously impressive. To begin with because of you know the april and that was kind of still early before we actually knew how good vladimir grow junior was gonna be this year and obviously we know how we pretty much ended off and In one hundred sixty one games but it just that homeowner those three home run games. I think that was kind of the first night. Even it was one of the first. I'll say one of the first signs that we got is this vladimir guerrero junior is going to be the one that we were anticipating all this time and i think that was the first signal that we got or at least one of the first signals. We got so that is why it was pretty much exciting for the start of it but as much as you know. It's kind of hard to remember that this happened because of how long ago it felt like and how long a baseball season is. It's just crazy to believe that you know after that home. Run home or three home. Run game just continue to pile on a pylon and him. Lighting up home runs everywhere. No matter what ballpark the jays. Replaying at the rbi's has opie s being above thousand all year. Which is something that was truly special to see and you do hope that he eventually does get that. Mvp award that he might get robbed of this year Call me crazy or not. But there is a few people that think he does deserve some consideration regardless of whose side. You're on for that one. You do hope eventually he does get that. Mvp award maybe in the future. So that's why it just crazy to believe that the numbers he put up this year and you hope that he continues to do that for the rest of his career at least for the foreseeable future because that was truly special and He was definitely one of the reasons why the jays finished where they were. Just sort of a playoff spot. But he was definitely the reason why they were in that race to begin with for sure tulsa crazy that we're talking about this as the number five moment. Her number six moment from a season he had such an amazing season and the blue jays had such an action packed. Season that we're talking about this moment as being the sixth best this year that there's five moments better than this moment this season including one from vladimir guerrero junior. I don't want to spoil the too much. Vladi has another moment on. That list. Ahead of this homer game is three homer game so it's just incredible. The incredible season. He had incredible numbers. He put up start to finish in the sei. Those cold streaks yes. He wasn't totally who he was. In april when he was in september and in august having that little slow street when the blue jays returned to toronto and carrying over into mid-september but i'm just incredible numbers from him and of course we know finishing tied for the home run crown in major league. Baseball ultimately doesn't finished top the triple crown categories average and rbi buddies close to.

"We've said that the vote is are in love with shohei ohtani unfor- good reason now run arenas. Starting all season is being great. I wonder frank was being absolutely red host but only since he got called up part season. I think this thing here for me. There's only two potential. I would probably i'm happy with so rainer in is polly which takes it plus two twenty and then you can just have a little save. Run wander franco. The only person who can beat them is franco. I eight. you might be able to find loved better as well So if you're taking your polly how they have a ten dollar saved from frank. Were eight to one. And i think that's the way it over those markets scott. Do you have any thoughts on any of those markets overall agree with your strategy. Now if you wanna talk about who. I think's going to win the mvp award. I think it's going to be a rose arena. Even though he played in about ninety playoff games last year and he's still technically a rookie which doesn't really make any sense for purposes. But still i gotta go with the rose arena because wonder franko as great as he's been you would be the favorite won the award if he played from day one. But he didn't. And i think that factors in now you can talk about guys who have had great Stretches and the rookie years when they get called up but to go through the actual numbers year arose arena has played insignificant more games obviously but actually go through the number of games. It's a bit jarring. Because he has played in one hundred twenty six games arose. Arenas at if you look at wander franco. He has played in sixty two. So i think the guy who's played half the game's gonna win the award over the guy. No i think rose is going to win the award so i agree with you now. Harper i think is a pure narrative award. I think that if tateishi ends up missing the playoffs or even the wildcard game and harper can will his team or quote unquote will his teams the phillies get into. He plays mediocre. I think he'll get the points for that anyway then. I think harper. When the award. So i agree. With your assessment i think arose arena minus one fifty in itself as a gift. I agree with you on them. They're gonna give it to a garcia either one. Nobody watches texas poi- fence but they're about what eighty games under five hundred but he's not winning the award and luis garcia's good but houston once again has struggled. Lately you still vow dez garcia's what the number three in that rotation the number four in that rotation so he's not really getting much publicity arose arenas the guy they know him from the plots last year than how good he is the media knows just how good he actually is. I didn't win the award. I think mine is one. Fifty is a gift moon off. Bryce harper is. He blew in your skirt over. You're going to like scott says if affiliate philly get over the line then than bryce apu's value as well. Yeah i mean. I think that a i agree with what you're saying that if that harper and the phillies get into the playoffs or win the division. I think that's going to be hard to con- overlook from the betters. He's having a pretty good season. Statistically and then you know. Tease has been really good to you got another homerun tonight. So he's i think he's getting closer to forty home runs on the season and you know early on in the season we talked about how to come to that. That player that that flashy player almost guy that turned out to be the face of mlb As one of the young and upcoming players in we've hiro tanya have been getting a lot of light in the media.

"I'm your host kevin. Molik it is thursday september sixteenth. Appreciate you guys tuning in. We've got a great show up for you guys today. A lot to talk about yesterday. Wednesday was roberto clemente day. So here at the top of the show we're going to get into roberto clemente. His career or his everlasting mark both on and off the field and then discuss the 2021 roberto clemente award nominees that you can vote on here for one of the most prestigious individual honors in major league baseball. We're then going to dive into flat guerrero. Junior how he is potentially having the best offensive season in the history of baseball to now win the mvp award. I'm pretty confident. In saying that shohei otani is still going to win the mvp so we'll dive into flat junior season as well as some others throughout the course of history who have had fantastic offensive years in not won the mvp award in the third segment. We're gonna get into trade deadline. Acquisitions with what max. Scherzer is doing out there in l. a. six so far point eight year origami thinking one other deadline accusations had a fantastic half a year and either lead their team to the playoffs just performed admirably for them from august first through the end of september. So we're gonna talk about quite a few traits that went down. We're guys were absolutely fantastic for their new ball. Clubs made a huge difference and then finally at the tail end of the episode. We'll get into news notes. Injuries the latest across major league baseball across the board. That's been happening out there. But like i mentioned right here. At the top of the episode september fifteenth was roberto clemente day and roberto clemente. His legacy has largely been defined by the final active his life when the plane. He chartered to deliver supplies to earthquake. Victims in. nicaragua crashed off the coast of his native. Puerto rico shortly after takeoff back on new year's eve in one thousand nine hundred seventy to his reputation as a selfless humanitarian became that of legends. And of course. Roberto was an absolute stud on the baseball fields. But he is more so known for his acts of kindness and what he did for others off the field. I mean first off on the field. Clemente was the first player from latin. America inducted into the national baseball hall of fame during his eighteen year career with the pirates. Clemente was a two time world series champion. Twelve time gold glove award winner in right field. Fifteen time all star. He was the nineteen sixty six national league. Mvp and he was also the first latin american player to reach the three thousand hit mark. Because i mean this guy was just an absolute stud looking at his career. His career batting average of three seventeen he had two hundred and forty career home runs. One thousand three hundred five rb is he was just an absolute menace. He won that. Mvp award like. I said in sixty six but he finished third in the voting in sixty seven four in the voting in one thousand nine hundred sixty one fifth in mvp voting in nineteen seventy one so from nineteen sixty through nineteen seventy two. He was an all star for eleven to twelve years. I mean this guy was just an absolute menace out there for the pirates in play in his entire eighteen career. Eighteen year career in pittsburgh absolute joy to watch his high for batting average in nineteen sixty. One was three fifty one. Oh we hit three fifty seven in one thousand nine hundred sixty seven. I was wrong. There was this career high so reverts l. on the field. Obviously an absolute stud but known even more so for what he did off the field. I mean this guy. He dealt with racism back in in his time as he arrived in the major leagues in nineteen fifty. Five only eight years. After jackie robinson became the first black player in the history of american and national leagues and he arrived nine years before president lyndon johnson signed the civil rights act into law. So it's only fitting. That clemente made his debut against robinson in the brooklyn dodgers as they continued racial equality struggles from then on moving forward of course because clemente was afro. Latino of dissent he was subject to the jim. Crow laws notably in fort myers florida where the pirates held spring training. So like the other black players of his eric lamented was not allowed to stay at the same hotel or shale share meals with his teammates at restaurants and yet legalized segregation was foreign. Diclemente because he had grown up in a much more integrated society in puerto rico. He said quote back in one thousand nine hundred seventy two. My mother and father never taught me to hate anyone or to dislike anyone because of their race or color. We never talked about that and quote so clemente. Of course he was big inequality he dealt with racism. Just like jackie robinson but he continued to give back to the community and be a figure a hero. Almost for that of puerto rico and latino descent again just his humanitarian efforts that he gave back to everybody up until his final act. Like i mentioned in nineteen seventy two when that plane went down just after takeoff when he was headed to nicaragua clemente was only thirty. Eight years old at the time of his fatal plane accident so he didn't even live a full life. And my goodness just an absolute shame as one of the best overall humans in the history of the game of baseball his life was cut short but baseball has since named september fifteenth. National roberto clemente day. They have allowed a handful of players to wear the number. Twenty one in honor of roberto clemente. It seems like quite a few more each year are giving the okay to where the twenty one and that's certainly fitting and i certainly appreciate dad watching the phillies tonight. It was andrew mccutchen for the fight and fills rocking the number. Twenty one. but there's also the roberto clemente award that has been given out every year and there is one nominee per ballclub and this year. There were eighteen first time nominees. The roberto clemente award annually recognizes the major league baseball player. Who best represents the game through extraordinary character community involvement philanthropy and positive contributions both on and off the field and because of this it is one of the most prestigious awards across major league baseball and is not directly tied to performance on the field. So this is a big deal to get nominated But obviously an even bigger deal to have to win the award. So september fifteenth roberto clemente day. Also correlates with the first day of hispanic heritage month. It is a nice touch for major league baseball to coincide. Those two events on september fifteenth. So who the nominees across major league baseball. Well we'll start out in the american league east for the blue jays as boba shit. It's his first ever nomination. He was nominated for the work. He's done both in toronto.

Mvp which feels like too few but he's also only started three years so it's not too few but also he's that good so i think that like if he hasn't heavy calibre season it won't feel redundant won't feel stale and that's always important to voters is that like feels like it makes sense and so yeah mom's down and the expectations get harder. I mean we were talking about that. With reason lamar where he predicted. Lamar and i'm just thinking like i think he was so good. Twenty nineteen. He set this expectation for himself. He could be playing it. Mvp level and that's still wouldn't have the voting momentum. I guess you could site. But that's either here nor there we're doing in vis second part here. Is the team predictions team by team. Divisions wildcard playoff predictions conference championship final four and super bowl at the end of it. Why don't we start with the afc east northern yati all right so i want to just get on record here and say here. Come the escape. Patchy spam com seventeen th. No no no no no no no this is this is just a statement about my brain being bad. The seventeen is still throwing me. Because i have the buffalo bills here and we'll get to this later but i also have pretty high expectations at this point for the new england patriots. And so i. I have worked myself into a place for where for all of my logic to hold. The bills need to win thirteen games and that doesn't feel right but i still think they're the best team in the division. I'm picking them. I think even with a little bit of room for regression from josh allen they still. They're the most balanced they've got the most consistency. And i do think that that the patriots regardless of my sort of high hopes for them. I do think that there will be the occasional rookie stumbles going with jones. I think it's going to be buffalo. And so like any. Any disagreements there. Yeah i buffalo as well and i. I have buffalo winning. Thirteen games For me it's right whenever you're a really good team always very easy bake and they'll be fifteen into but we always know that things happen whether it's injuries or like give up games in the middle of.

"Mike about staffer being really intriguing story in the nfl and he will not. This'll be the first first season that he doesn't have to play in a preseason game he always played in something of the preseason. He's one of those guys that will just go out. There loves playing football. But you will. I see him on his first snap as in. La rams quarterback that counts and they are from what i'm hearing him and mcbrayer getting along great and this is the other thing about matthew stafford that when people talk about. What's his potential. Consider the coaches. He's had coaching. How god don't do it. You know he started with jim schwartz. Then he went to caldwell and then went to matt patricia. These are not guys who they're nice guys. All of them specially well. But they're not gurus they're not you know getting the best out of their quarterback and now he goes to a team where a guy a very young we can relate to has already done that once with a lesser talented guy. In jared goff. I believe in terms of pure arm strength and ability. And he's now going to be. It's like a kid in the candy store it's like. Wow you coach like this in the yeah players like this tradition of winning like this and so i am so intrigued by what he can do and i just pray that he stays healthy. Matthew stafford is healthy. He can do anything but over the last few years within the first couple of games. Something this happened that has nagged him the whole rest of the season and he continued to play. He doesn't miss games. he's an iron man but he's a little off you know. His foot is a little off. his hand is a little off. Whatever i just hope he gets a clean season to do what he could do with the rams and then they become a really really intriguing. Bob matthew is two years younger than his head coach. Madison mcveigh is thirty five. They probably feel like they went to school together. Yeah and you know when you're in your thirties in the nfl. And you've got all these kids who were twenty you. You can feel like you're from another generation. And so i'm sure he can relate to the coach that way i. It's just when you talk about a guy who fell into a perfect situation. He really did. And i i wish the best. He's a good guy and we'll see what happens there. I think we've covered what we're going to cover So we came to him time to get to our parting shots. They brought to you by geico. Whether you rent their own geico makes it easy to bundle home and car. Insurance go to geico dot com. Today are parting shots. Mike luke elite assault now hurting shots. I don't know the buster posey even playing just two thirds of giants games as the team tries to keep him healthy can win the national league. Mvp award but he ought to be in the conversation even as the giants are pacing him while they moved towards october with the best record in baseball. The giants are the best team and posey at the age of thirty four after taking twenty twenty off so that he and his wife could care for two infant daughters. They adopted identical twins born eight weeks. Prematurely is the teams best player. He has spent most of his career being exactly that. He's currently hitting three thirty six and looking exactly like the giants best player when they were winning three world series. But you two thousand and ten in two thousand fourteen. He is one of the great catches of all time one of the great players of his time and he is back to where the giants are. Miguel cabrera is getting there..

"Clinching game Being out michael jordan dropped forty five. I mean how many times are we gonna go back to remember a guy dropping fifty fourteen and five blocks in a in a closeout game. Like abs unstoppable man. It's crazy how we take it back a couple weeks. We were even doubting whether jaanus was even going to play in the finals. This dude hyper-extended his look disgusting and it's do comes back and drops thirty five thirteen and five over the course of six games on sixty two percent field. Goal percentage like that's just stupid production This dude solidified as a hall of famer at this point i player in. Nba history to win most improved player. Mvp a player of the year and finals mvp award. That's just crazy Accolades there and honestly talk about the year. You gotta give to the bucks man like getting. Pj tucker a dog midseason. I think was crucial for them. Because like while you have that big three of. Chris middleton jrue holiday and jaanus. I think it was those role players that really stepped up. Like we're gonna david. Chen didn't even play. And you're looking at pat coddington. Stepping-up bobby portis has the game of his life on his home court like that. Dude just probably earned a bag for the future. There's no way in hell. He's ever leaving milwaukee after that. That final series. And just that playoff run. So the trade for jew holiday worked out perfectly sure. There was some luck in the. You know some some injuries along the way. But and and covert obviously for this season. But overall you super hat to the milwaukee bucks man and mike boone. Jose got shifted on all season. And now he's raising. The larry o'brien trophy along with the rest of them. So i think it's a great story. Awesome game awesome playoff overall and disheartening for the sons. Like i would have liked to see chris paul and then You know take it to the championship. Run themselves but i'm not mad at cement his place in mba royalty here..

"Report limitations. Apply i want to talk about the tom. Brady thing for a minute. It's important report came out this week. He played the interior with an mc l. spraying it was never reported and injuries are supposed to be reported because of the personnel injury report policy. That the nfl has had in place for decades. It's frankly a cornerstone of the public confidence that folks path for the credibility of nfl teams and owners and they're required full compliance and enforcement of the policy. Know here's why. The intent used to provide complete information on player availability because if it started player might not play. Well that could move the line. Seven points it. Also you know. It's a situation where i'm gonna get to the bedding part of it in a minute but this is in the entertainment business. And if the under study is playing in the starters not it violates the policy which i think could result in the commissioner disciplining teams right and you could forfeit draft choices. It's a very serious situation You just simply can't hide information like that and look. We are joined at the hip now with sports. Betting legalized in twenty seven states. And many probably eighteen more to come in the reason. It's been so. Successful is because of convergence since passed was struck down the convergence between pro sports leagues acceptance to state regulation to technological and financial innovation. Everything's converged create a really thriving business sector. So here's one of the issues. That's very problematic for me. When sportsbook you want fair and equitable betting markets. You don't want the little guy getting hurt. A bedding line is not a predictor. It's merely an instrument to create equal action on both sides so you can maximize profit for the books and minimize risk to both the books and the betty markets because someone could have unfair access to sensitive information that could affect the outcome of a game of those betting line and if they're compromise the integrity entire process by hiding information. Guess what the little guy gets hurt. You create a system. Where people distrusted the. Nfl's very concerned about that. By the way you've been in reading the regulated betting markets. You're not going to see here in in las vegas which is regulated. Betting market the national anthem. The length of the national anthem as a is a potential bet on the board of profit. The you can wager on because someone could have access to that information before the event takes place and compromise the integrity of the betty market same thing with academy awards. Typically if it's not the sat it in a box score. We're on the field. You're not gonna see on the board now. There are exceptions which we've talked about the past but for the most part as to this. Nfl teams must disclose a players injured body parts whether the players probable questionable dot or out for an upcoming game and in the league requires teams to include a reasonable degree of specificity. The reports the bottom line again. If injury information is kept hidden questionable people that can go so far as to bribe and satisfied with teams. You never know who they can get to or medical people are players themselves which i think is doubtful because it's so much nfl security but why open pandora's box. We'll see if the commissioner speaks out on this or the nfl make some kind of statement. Shohei otani has been in the news a lot this week. Obviously he was great in the all star game. Got the wind pitch to good inning perfect inning and he competed well in the home under. He did everything he was asked. You know back in the spring one of the things you can bet on our. Who will win the american league. Mvp or the national league ep. And back when those lines were drawn up in the spring shelly. Otani opened up at william hill as sixty two one favourite to win the mvp ten dollars on them and at that time. If we'll tiny wins the mvp in about six hundred dollars a lot has changed. Otani has thirty. Three home runs twelve stolen bases. He's been sensational on the mound if he's not going to win the mvp. And the american league barring injury or something unforeseen. I don't know who is well now. Tony is a minus three hundred favorite to win that same ten dollars. You'd have to put up thirty dollars to win ten dollars or to win that same. Six hundred dollars. You'd have to put up. You know what eighteen hundred so long. The short of it is there is now liability and gm has liability. William hill has liability. It could result in a seven figure loss for las vegas sports books because he show you italian the largest liability to win the american. Mvp award by a mile and william hill alone will lose about a million dollars largely because one thirty thousand dollar wager to win nine hundred thousand. It took somebody to kanatani thirty two one in the preseason that is absolutely unheard of. We've never heard of anybody betting thirty thousand on anything thirty one. It's got to be. I by the way is i mentioned the line tuesday. The suns are getting fi. Points the bucks minus four twenty two win the series a week ago. Today you could have gotten the bucks plus three fifty one other thing. I want to get to proving that sports. Books and bookmakers are human this past week. We learned about the biggest sportsbook blunder. In the history of las vegas. And i'm not exaggerating the wnba all-star game which was played the other night they totally over under opened up a to fifty. That's not unreasonable. Circle put out the sendoff line. The last few games have been right around that number unfortunately would they neglected to realize was that they were playing under the new format this year. Which had which meant the all star game was going to be comprised of the us olympic team versus the wnba all stars. So it wasn't going to be the usual free-flowing wide open showtime he was going to be a game where there was actually tough defensive. Both teams are trying to win. The good news is the books. Didn't get hurt. And there were very little limits in the game went under anyway. Check this out so the game opened a two fifty actually could have got the under two fifty. It closed at one ninety five which means when the game tipped off the over under is one ninety five and it landed on one seventy eight sh- meets the combined score pretended the teams was one. Seventy eight at the end of the day. Let's just say it could have been a lot worse but it wasn't but again it just goes to show you. Bookmakers are human every now and then they'll make a mistake as well because circa put that up and all the other books followed blindly right behind them without checking it out until somebody caught them and then they all made the adjustment in time coming up you know what me love me kelly without him. "Is an interesting thought for you. Going back to super bowl forty five a heartbreaker for us steeler fans see the steelers pulled drive off in very reminiscent fashion super bowl forty three. What if ben were to just target. Mike wallace ben stat. Line for that game you. Two hundred sixty three yards. Two touchdowns two picks mike wallace at that. Point at the end of the game nine receptions eighty nine yards and a touchdown saying that lasts sixty yards all thrown awards. Mike watkins the game at one hundred. Forty yards two touchdowns ben. Three hundred twenty yards three touchdown passes picks. Do you think they give it to big ben in super bowl. Forty five mike. Wallace's way it goes to number seventeen and the reason being one. There still enough of a bias against ben there but those two interceptions against two touchdowns with mike wallace. You know if if that's zero plays off in one hundred and forty yards yet at that point. You've got to do that. San antonio homes with one that mvp award based on one drive but he was spectacular in that. Drive the so. That's really the way it would go there now. If something happens that mendenhall does something great there too. You know i mean doesn't yeah i. I'm not a huge mendenhall fan. But i am an apologist for that fumble he. I defy many running backs to the way he was sandwiched on that. Play clay with us. Yeah it's clay matthews. And i thought was aj hawkins in that. But it wasn't i. Because i looked at it the other day. He got tattooed in many backs. Even the best bax are having a hard time holding onto the ball because the ball was hit. I mean there's he was clutching well and he was not a guy that fumbled that was just a million dollar hit. Yeah much like one jerome. Bettis fumbling against the colts in two thousand five. So history just goes goes to the victor really so minimal definitely doesn't get the best look from steeler fans will drone data will love him forever and it didn't help that right after that he just spouted off nonsense on twitter now he meant. It was a very he. He was a very intelligent guy he he had very good grades at the university of illinois. He was a scholar. Actually i mean not. He's not a josh dobbs scholar. And he's now writing for ballers in well ballers is over. But the show baller he ballers he was not just the the football coordinator for that he wrote for that show too and so he was really well read guy but he came. I don't know if you know the story. But on after in may of two thousand eleven after that super bowl only months after that the big fumble he came out and said why are we celebrating. The death of osama bin laden and that was that was on twitter. It was not. It was not meant to be anti-american but it came out very non patriotic and just the wrong move at that time so he came out as an american and he said look. I was just coming out. I'm just looking for a different point of view. And i'm i'm thinking and i'm encouraging people to to debate this because it is a human being but you. He missed he. He missed the mark on it completely. Yeah fumbling in the super bowl and coming across unpatriotic is not a good way to try to turn face especially in this market yet. The other bit of steelers news that we should also bring up from Today really peter. Schrager appearance on the pat mac v. Show and he was also asked about the question about ben rothlisberger in being in great shape and basically what he brought up. was that The steelers in general are a very hungry bunch. There are team. That's trump at the bit They there were definitely bitten by that loss. And its effect some guys in the locker room. They wanna come back hungrier than ever. Is that something that excites you. Are you liking that. That's kind of the vibe in the steelers locker room. Yeah because i see that. That's something i really see with these guys. You know you. You put aside the shenanigans that happened on on tiktok and all of that stuff they they come across as a fun loving. Maybe an immature bunch. But that's not what happened. That's not what this team is. And a lot of devon bush's comments that came out about the tiktok situation was don't group me in with those guys and don't group other the rest of the team and with these guys so that that's kinda what that was all about in my mind. And i feel that even the guys that that do enjoy their branding and their tiktok their serious when they're on the football field and they and you sure yeah. The corvette dances back. I guess that just came out the other day that the court juju brought corvette back. But when he's on the field business. And i really feel guys like kevin dotson and najji he just comes in and he brings in just a good culture coming from the university of alabama and he comes in with a work ethic like crazy where the running backs coach has to tell them. Hey fella it's time to go home you know. That's so there's a lot of pride on this team and you're going to tell me that a guy like cam heyward and a guy like hayden and.

"We started the second-half really well too. I felt like gareth southgate substitutions were perfect. Our team responded very well for like even pick for hasn't shaky moments. He managed to hold it together until the end of the match. Because maybe i'm being too pessimistic. But you always feel as if there's a mistake in in england team or there's going to be a lapse in concentration but it feels like with this unit or this collection of plays we ever the moment. If they do make a mistake they seem to have the minerals and whatever it may whatever else is in order to come davidge themselves and kind of hold it together until the end of the two-day under half until the end of the game they should just be able to kind of just to hunker down and make it work. And i think other teams. Sometimes you know if they get like if there's a red card if someone gave away a penalty a kick suddenly again. Which is soluble surely unravel but this team seems to be able to hold it together. And that is i think. Essentially what let us victory because by and large was the football amazing probably not but in terms of the character and determination and more important than luck. This needed to win a game like this week. Got it and the goal. The second goal which was a penalty that Rhyme sterling one again. Ram certain probably deserves an mvp award for what he's done for england tournament. He's really showed up and showed that he showed up and showed out showed up web. Time is right and especially when you consider how disappointing firmly campaign. He's coming off. The back of right. Haven't been bench for the last few games of the season in cave looking like pep guardiola basically Planning for future without rame sterling has been one of the main components of his side going forward. He definitely did come into this tournament. Maybe thinking maybe you know. There's a lot of hype around sancho aloft kind of hyper rank relish and people kind of forgot about what sterling does for this team especially pussy good jersey on and you kind of remind everybody and he was instrumental in in england over the line and his driving runs and even to win the penalty. He just decided you. Just pick up the bones of running into the books fishing for somebody to stick out there. Lake hoping somebody kinda takes him down and get penalty and luckily that ended up happening. the penalty itself to be completely honest. I'm going to say it was a bit for us and at this level if playing a semi final at the euros if the referee isn't sure it's a penalty you surely have to look at the screen right. It surely has to go too far to tell the to kind of double check and make sure he's w w shore because of i know there's a clue novus era thing whatever it may be but surely at this level at this stage of the competition the referee all denmark especially deserved just to kind of double check his decision double check his work. And make sure okay. Cool did i see why soul and if he did interpret. 'cause i think some people are saying that maybe it wasn't the first foul. I studying dubbing into the books. It's not the trip is actually kind of sold showed or hit budge that he gets justice. He's falling down directly. Gave you as a penalty. But then if you're looking at the replay you'd see they're selling isn't in control the ball after the first kind of trip phantom trip so to give a foul for the hip when he's not in control the boys a bit we hid but again i think at this level football again you need this kind of luck to kind of get through in order to kind of give a chance to win again..

"That we have luckily seen some of this as sky show saying the chat. Wnba we need merge. We've started to see more avenues. But yeah the all star game is supposed to be a celebration for both the players and for the fans of all of all the achievements that we've seen on the court to that point and at this point it's it's a couple of years that we've been robbed of an all star game to this point So i'm excited to see the players. Get out there. But i also as is true of oughta fans and a lot of players that we've spoken to have some confusion surrounding. The commissioner's cup a lot of players. We're not sure what was going on with that. So it's not just the all star game that hasn't been concrete -ly explained and defined. It's it's so much of it. And i applaud the leaves initiative but it could sometimes be a little bit crisper in. It's indeed indeed. Danny bar lavi has now joined us on. The state is is this the stage. I dunno. it's it was locker room. It was green room. And then of course there's clubhouse edano we'll call it the stage daily bar lavi also here and so. This is a part of the contingency that that goes to new york liberty game the beat writers here. So danny i'd love to have you wait in here will first of all i on that last point that you said i really do appreciate actually them going back to vegas just because of how well. Gnc in care of the players on the weekends like obviously from a fan perspective it would be cool to share the love a little bit and see if you all three games in other cities but like las vegas vile and the players seem to like it. So that's full. This format is so weird right. Have we talked about that. It's i i keep going in out of whether or not i'm a fan of it The team usa versus the rest for that my initial gut reaction when it was announced with just like you know i found it strange to thank you know the way we think about team. Usa it implies that one team is going to be necessarily better than the other. But as we're seeing like that's in terms of talent not necessarily the case. I also still find it interesting. Just in terms of like the time that he m- usa will have with each other ahead of the scheme versus the time. The other all star team will have ahead of each other at ahead of the game. I mean like yeah also like. Did you ever get clarity on whether or not i the all team. Usa members are officially all stars. Okay so all good things. And i think we can just leave it there like who knows right. That's part of what we're shining about. I think i love what you mentioned about vegas because when the all star game was held in vegas what was that. I guess we're going back to twenty nineteen. that's right. Yeah you already like asia. Wilson was already on her propaganda. Like you know and this is the best we've ever had. Now how how you know you never bid. You ain't never been to seattle which i talk about. But whatever she was on her. You know this is the best we've ever seen in. It should be here. You know every year and other players started hearing that throughout the weekend. I've also heard elsewhere that perhaps this is already something. That is an actual thing as in las vegas will be hosting multiple all-star weekends but as someone who will as of tomorrow be hosting locked on crack in the seattle crack team playing in climate pledge arena where they will have the high task of trying to match the seattle storm championships I can tell us dewey in them. They're ready for climate. Pledge arena to open up and to maybe give vegas some competition and then of course all of us make our way to barclays. I'm not confident. Barclays is is the top two especially with vegas and now climate pledge arena once that renovation is done but maybe top five in the league. I'm thinking so. I don't know is it. Is it fair to some of these. Other places or other franchises that have really made moves to improve their arena and or have gotten different ownership particularly on the nba side. I don't know rosters. And since we're at commercial break at least on my television. I do wanna get this out there and i know i was talking about this in the In a little group chat. But like okay. I have a hot heartache. I'm gonna put it out here. Public my heartache. Is that neka. Agoo mckay should not be an all-star a wnba all-star if we're going by performance in the league she should one thousand percent via wnba all-star if we are going for all of the wealthy and then so what i think at the end of the day it's like you said at the beginning erica releases beginning when i tuned in All-star games are events for the fans by the fans. And know i hate to. I hate to bring up. The i bring up a an example for men's league but this is how we get this how we get a things like john scott winning the when the nhl all star games mvp award therefore the fans by the fans are popularity contests at the end of the day. And it's part of the reason kind of why they're almost an endangered species because we have more access to neck oga mckay than ever before and if we want to see her take on the seattle storm. The las vegas aces. All we have to go is all we have to do is wait until the game happens. Or we go on youtube and we look up the highlights and whatnot. So i so. I think we i think it's a case of So it's a case of it. Defense want her there. She'll be there. Basically whatever generates the most attention the most ratings and this could be. This is a good showcase for league. And if anyone represents this league in a positive light Neka certainly does so. She's and of course she also She also has a movie coming out you might. She's going to be appearing in the space jam. Seek will so that could be some cross promotion right there. So i totally get what you're saying in a perfect world the all star game would be based on on court merits and whatnot but at the same time it's almost like this is a wnba event and you can't tell the story of this league of this modern league without talking about both the on court and off court efforts of neck oak mckay. It almost wouldn't feel complete without neka there. So i feel like we will see her in some way shape or form. I think that's very well said jeff. See auntie comes with all the spice. And then i allow you to to be the honey in the t. If y'all l i that i am surprised. They'll go ahead. sorry. I i just wanted to say that. I'm surprised that you didn't want this drama. Erica that you don't want neka getting a chance to show that. She was snubbed from the team. Usa that's the thing is that like i'm of the opinion ila vacuum but in all stars in all sorts of functions should be based on encore in that season. But this is such a different all-star game as we've been talking about it like you know the the decision to make it team. Usa versus versus the rest of the all stars in the decision to stop neka from team usa like does cast an entirely different pallor in an entirely different tone over the voting process and over the game itself. And so. I think that like as jeff was saying. This is more than ever a narrative all star game because of how it's different and like maybe in another season i would find You know like..

"Is terrell davis one of the greatest running backs of all time he top ten probably but as his stats don't stack up but what he did. The reason the hall of fame is because what he did in five years. Six years and i was listening. I was skeptical about getting into the hall. I said i didn't do it long. I've changed my mind on that. I do the obvious test on him. And i say yes because what. He didn't know what you guys think. Oh you're just now swaying your argument fit joker no when it was announced. I said you know. It's really hard to argue that one. That was a that was the toughest one for me. Maybe a little biased jumping in with the broncos but he super bowl. Mvp league mvp all these all these different things that he did in six years. So those of you saying well. He was only been there for six years. Gotta give it again. What what has he done. In time there revitalized franchise took them to three playoffs in row getting past the first round all three times. Three all star appearances now league. Mvp yeah what he's done in. Six years has packed. Terrell davis type punch. And so if you're like if he's is he a hall of famer today Joker hall of and again. It's not the nba. They don't do the nba fame so it's lot broader. It's a lot more difficult to do. It's just a basketball hall of fame. So i that's tough. That one's tough if it was an mba hall of fame. I throw joker in there based on what he's done right now but they don't have that because i'm all about what. What did you do in your time now. One year no two years three years four. You know some said patrick. Mahomes should be in the hall of fame class after second year. And i think that's a little crazy. You gotta give me. I got to be able to count them on my fingers. i think. but it's a it's an interesting debate. I like to bring up a lot. And i don't think it's going away anytime soon. So i'm sure we'll have that again. Forty nine minutes after the hour. Let's get to our mba picks tonight. And what's on tonight and we'll go from.

Does Lebron James Deserve More MVP Awards?

"Let me tell you what. Lebron james is notorious for a other than skipping town. Go to another team other than that you know what. He's famous for taking his foot off the gas to a regular seasons when he went back to cleveland. You remember that he was like i don't mean to have the number one seed. I don't need to kill myself during the regular season. that's why he didn't win. Mvp's he undersea deserve to have more last year. Janas was the mvp unwanted convincingly and overwhelmingly. Why bernie 'cause the year before. John is wanted and lashio. Jonah's had better numbers than the year before. And the milwaukee bucks had the best record in the nba. Lebron james was really shocked because he had some false narrative going on that he was the mvp. Come on bernie has some humility. You don't have to do that. Politics will knock it you an. Mvp saying goes true. Greatness needs no self promotion. And we've talked about this probably at least once in every show we've done robin that is lebron is incredibly insecure about his legacy. If he's really the king what is he. Allow these things to get under his skin. He did it last. September when he lost out on the mvp then he says well. What really pisses me off. Allie got sixteen votes out of. That's what really pisses me up. Look if you want to continue to die in this hill lebron. You're going to continue to be seen as petty and al kuzina says the mvp's very political award. Yeah so is the mvp and major league baseball in the nfl. Probably the nhl and the heisman trophy right on down the line. Linda brown goes on to say. I don't sit around thinking about it or crying about it. That's what he just said that's all. He does time even when they won the championship last year and i gave him top credit. Lebron fan never will be better given top credit. Because the lakers are a franchise of eras you had to wilt air the jabbar air the magic the kobe and shaq era negative lebron air to win a championship and when he did the first thing he does say i want my damn respect do what he. What are you constantly begging for. What exactly is it. What happened in because you know why bernie it tells you all you need to know. He knows deep down. He's not the best player all time he knows his michael jordan. That's why it's always looking for these other things to add to his resume. That's why he he wants an mvp and you know what he sees now. He seems j. He sees james harden in brooklyn without a kevin durant and they've won fourteen out of fifteen or whatever the number is bernie and and he's looking going and when a went out to lakers stumbled he's not going to win the

Should LeBron James have more MVP awards? Yes, but it's complicated

"All right fellas. Let's keep moving here. Big baller brand versus the king. Wanna talk about this game last night so lamelo basically saying to us. I mentioned this yesterday. That it's just another game playing lebron and as for lebron. It was just another day in the office. Thirty seven eighty six became then talked about a potential fifth. Mvp award lebron running or here my name of some of the best basketball players in the league this year again. it would mean a lot At my age What i'm able to do what i've been doing this whole season You know what our brains at a table every single night on both sides of the floor. it would mean a unbelievable thing for me personally. Is my career so to see what a chips may. Kyle kuzma reiterating. That sediment saying you should want eight or nine guys. We haven't had this conversation in a while. The last time i asked you max i think you had. Joel embiid as your guy. So where are you now. Who do you think's the biggest threat to lebron for. Mvp i used to be very clear. Lebron's the mvp. This moment and beat has now missed too much time. And he's presently hurt. Lebron is the mvp of the league at this moment. The easy answer to who's the biggest threat is james harden. He's playing the best basketball of his career. And that's really saying something and kyrie's been great and have been other great james harden you watch him now. You're watching basketball. Genius like the combination of scoring from anywhere on the floor at historically elite levels combined with the kind of court vision and unselfishness and setting up his teammates that he has shown in brooklyn in the service of winning has been remarkable however pardon also miss time in the beginning of the season because he won on the team. He's on the rockets and he was forcing his way off the rockets. So let me make a suggestion here. I considered yokich best offensive player in the league this year. I think stephen the biggest threat to lebron james. Mvp is damian. Lillard damian lillard a man that you have sat up here right in that spot and apologized to on. I take on this show for ignoring we. We all know him in apology. Dropped thirty six last night. Is he has a colt. Euro kind of status in the nba. Everyone loves this guy used the most clutch player in the league. That is you nets like unanimous consensus that please if not most clutch player damian lillard. He's averaging thirty points a night with assist everything you want. He has taken team decimated by injury destroyed by injury no mccollum until recently and their fourth in the western conference the fourth best record tied for fourth best in the western conference. He's the sentimental favourite. He's playing mvp level. He's shown leadership we all know he has not been recognized. Enough hardens miss time with his team and beads now hurt that you look at each candidate on other teams and lillard is at least as good as any of them. I think he's the biggest lebron's the mvp lillard is biggest threat.

Ryan Braun's Tainted Legacy on the Eve of His Retirement

"Ryan braun told some reporters who cover the brewers that he is almost certainly going to be retired. It's not a surprise. He's thirty seven years old This is someone who at three hundred and fifty two home runs in his career to ninety-six average and mvp award nine thousand nine hundred sixty three hits eleven hundred fifty four rbi. But i don't think. I saw a lot of what really to me is going to be a big part of his legacy. When his baseball you know epitaph is written along with the mvp award. His legacy is going to be about what happened with his positive drug test and his suspension that he had for. Pd's it was one of the worst cases of a professional athlete in the united states. And i know of along with lance armstrong for someone who just flat lied. He one point you remember. You tested positive. He contested it. It went before an arbitrator and he won that a he won that arbitration decision and then he did a victory dance with the press. Conference at the brewers spring training camp. And you remember how during that process. He dumped all over the specimen collector. Who who's calling other players suggesting to them that the specimen collector was anti semitic and then push came to shove in the end. He was determined that yeah. He cheated accepted a suspension I don't know how you get away from that. It was one of the ugliest situations that i've seen in the thirty two years at a covered. Baseball tim must've ask him to be in the first paragraph of his retirement wherever he goes ear. There's no way around. I'll never forget us watching afri- i was in the espn bostering screw training and we were watching in. All of us. Basically said the same thing that was impressed with the way that she presented this. I believe i'm a little naive about some things. But i believe every word he said that day because of the passionate he used and the waiting presented everything then to find out. Later that he was lying was more than letdown. For a lot of people at it's just acknowledged right away. I don't say a may not be in the first paragraph of his retirement story but it will be because of how adamantly was and how through someone under the bus that i didn't do this. This guy did this to me and then to get caught. That really hurts ryan. Bronze legacy mood for

"We saw probably one of the worst things that we could have ever seen. Which was the stripping of their trophy from jackie. Rabbits lists now when the kids were playing that game. We support them. We rallied behind now and we put them on our. They put the city on her back and canada's to this game care. Does today national championship and really one represented their city. The best way that they could and so. We applaud you for that so now two months later. You guys want to take the trophy because of what you know the coach who brought the allegations up about whatever's zoning district maps y'all that is crap that is absolute crap you all did two separate investigations back when this first came up and the little league itself assured us that their team had done nothing wrong. So now why is it in february. All of a sudden this new information has come up. That is requiring that required. You all to take that trophy him. This crap that's bs that is total bs. But on the flip side of that all you. People are sending their coach. Death threats that is pure ignorance on itself to you are doing too much stopping. What are you showing the key is that you killed over a little league baseball game. No the us justice. Ignorant all we can do now is just support them. Kids support those young princes and let them know great job although they might have took their trophy they could never take away those things. You experience the things that some of us will never get the chance to do so. We applaud you for that. We need to step up now and let them know. We are not going to stand by idly and let this go there. Jackie robinson west situation. It does not need to get swept under the rug because we need to figure out what happened. Between december and february. What new evidence was brought up. They required their title to be taken. Was it or is the better question. How much money was offered this time. These same little kids have to walk five ten blocks to school sometimes because there's not adequate blessing system to get them to small you know so if they just play them decline a game. What is the big deal. And then also. How hypocritical are we being where new england pro on a professional level. You've got these men making millions of dollars they cheated. We know they cheated. And what did they get the mvp award and big all dumb. Endorsements in bonus checks. So what are we showing kids if you could cheat on a professional level in paid four but as a child where nothing is under your control will strip your title away you young man you princess..

Families of Negro Leaguers rejoice in MLB's decision to recognize league

"On wednesday. Mlb announced that it was quote unquote elevating negro leaguers. Two major league status within its official historical record which helps explain why google searches for the name. Josh gibson suddenly started spiking. Baseball says it's figuring out how to include negro leagues statistics into its canon of sacred numbers. And there is no resume quite as legendary or as mythical as that of the late josh gibson. The catcher that satchel page once unambiguously deemed the greatest hitter. Who ever lived. So i called up shawn gibson. Josh's great grandson and the executive director of the josh gibson foundation to understand what mlb's decision to elevate his great grandfather means to him. Well first of all. I don't like the word elevating. I think it should be more of a merger because niggly baseball player or major league players as well. So that's first and foremost this. And i want to bid tuesday night as josh gibson's greg grants and i woke up as josh jacobs. His grandson asher to cerebral calls questions about this happened. Literally when people say happen literally overnight it literally happened overnight and to wake up and see that in lobby made the announcement and josh gibson. Now what we consider not just one greatest league baseball players he. He'll be considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time and so for us in our family. It's a great honor. Ona understand josh. What you heard growing up from family from friends about how your great grandfather considered his own career compared to those who had the opportunity who were afforded that opportunity to play in the majors for jars. You know and the other great negro baseball players you know. They knew they were great players. They didn't even know by to tell him that it was just a decision At that time it was in that era. that kennesaw mountain land is denied the opportunity to play in the majors but did not stop him. They barnstorm against a lot of white baseball players. And you know as well as we know. I know is that a lotta times. They beat the white ball players in. So that's something right there. And so when i totally stories just in our family. There's we call josh gibson big josh. 'cause josh gibson junior of course is the sense that you can't say jockey get confused. I wanted to ask you about one of big joshes more famous nicknames. He was called very famously. The black babe. When you hear that sean about your great grandfather how does that make you feel you know. Let's say this bridge. Stevens bakers great grandson. He's one of my good friends. We go back and forth back and forth on this all the time. I didn't know that okay. Tell me about your relationship with him. And what you guys talk about on this regard. That's great so burn. Stevens is bait roof. Great grandson and so we always talked about. You know josh gibson's compared to my grandfather. And i'm like well that's what you but if you ask me about. Bay roof is a white josh gibson. So we go back and forth. Is we always say our people always say Yankee stadium was called the house. Ruth bill in ice t's brent are okay but who hit the furthest home running stadio i give them on that one. Well i mean. I want to even push that. Story further sean. Because i grew up going yankee stadium. He's the only human being to ever hit a fair ball out of the park out of the house. That babe ruth ledley built. I don't want to rub it in his face to. I don't go that far. I just say the furthest rebel. We all know he headed out. The ballpark. we know is over near babe. Ruth kane close no all seriously. I've heard several stories two different stories. I heard it. It's out of the ballpark. Been a heard from some players that hit like the top tier of moammar. So you wrote a piece of the undefeated in august about your grandfather's name being on the mvp trophy. And that may have been unthinkable at one point but now it does feel like there could be momentum towards that. Why is this important to you and your family. Then the peak kinda fell on our lap on. This happened to read an article about terry pendleton barry. Larkin and mike schmidt. Making a case to remove kennesaw Mountains landers name off the mvp award and it gets to okay. Well here at a names that they're considering replacing the name with in his frank robinson branch rickey and go shoot josh gifts literally again on the phone with my board directors. I said listen. We just found herself in a race. Let's see how we can win it so for us. I'm hoping that the vwa taking consideration of this and really think twice when they make a decision to rename this after josh gibson but this mvp war if this may not. The jaw is just about josh gibson. This will carry on the legacy of all the other great players as well. Who were denied the opportunity. So josh gibson is carrying several thousand players on his shoulders but his vp award the page. Family the buck leonard. Cool up a bail family. Turkey stars fan oscar charleston. Family all great players will all celebrate. It'll be named after josh. But every time i speak about this i'll make sure represent all the family members who were denied the opportunity

WTA Year End Awards for 2020

"Everyone john worth. I'm hearing sports. Illustrated tennis podcast. Jamie joins me for a grab bag topics. We are midway through the final so hard to make any definitive conclusions there but we can talk about the the back of played so far. We'll talk about twenty twenty one tennis and what the picture is looking like. It's slowly coming into focus but still considerably Blurry and uncertain. We'll talk w. t. awards. There are no more women's tennis events on the calendar. But we can start distributing some honors and just sort of a catchall of tennis topics as we want to say to the finish. But we're not exactly sprinting. Either a stranger that is Finishing under strained conditions and we talk about sort of where the sport is here in mid november twenty twenty so jamie welcome. it's it's been a while. how are you. i'm good. i agree with you. It's a weird year. And i feel like we've been talking a lot about the atp and obviously the atp finals are happening. So i am happy to start by out talking about the wpa and some of these awards all right. let's go. let's let's that. I that's a good idea let's go to That'd be the w. t. a. Does not unlike the wto does not have a finals or twenty twenty. Unfortunately that's An offshoot of having events in china where international sporting events were cancelled months ago. So the vendor playing as we speak in london and there is no there is no comparable women's event. So let's say yeah let's do that. Let's start with the women season over. Why don't we hand out some awards. We genda pivot to london. Mvp award is always a bit strange. But if we're going to give player of the year honors. I feel like the player has to have won a major. Do you agree with that. Yes definitely agree with that. But this year of course We had one less. And i think that i would also classify the majors in two creek corona and post corona. I would almost give a little bit more weight or just feel like there's more discussion for all the majors. That are not the train open you know. Of course that was when all was normal and before all this happened But i know you. You went to your pace in your mailbox but are you. Who's your pick. i think it. It sounds sounds a little. I think you've got to say that the so you can is your twenty twenty. Mvp she won a major and got to the final of another If we play this game sometime if your life depended on a player Would she be your pick and the answer is is probably not and do i think in a head to head match. There are players who are superior. If if she and i o miyasaka played ten times i would think naomi osaka with the majority of those matches. But yeah in this straight year. But i think you're right. There was no wimbledon. There there was a us open but it did not feature you know six top ten players including ash barty the number one player including simona halep included the defending champion and that was That was one sock than we had. The french open which also did not feature ash party. Who is the defending champion. It did not feature. Naomi osaka the australian open before corona had the most flush field. So you can in one that and she reached the final of the french open so she is the only player to have won a major and got into the final of another and in this stranger. It's probably appropriate. We have a strange choice but sonya sofia kenyon is my Twenty twenty mvp will by you. I hear you on that. And i think those are all good points. I in you know so that we aren't agreeing here on all of these under some Interest to this conversation. I'm going to take a different pic. i'm gonna go with naomi osaka and i think that In speaking about mvp sort of in the Like a of a lot of awards that are giving out at this time of the year including essays own award sportsperson of the year. It's not just about what's happening on the court. It's just not about results per se about other things that This player has done. So i think that For me. I think niamey osaka. Of course like you said kennan if you're just talking about reaching a final winning final In a major. She's done that but osaka has not only one. But also use her platform and she's spoken up and she's gone beyond the court and i think that you know if we're talking if you're looking at that list of choices here And you check the box with a major win in for me. You check the box with all the other outside stuff off the court that she's done so that's my pick.

A Recap of the 2020 Overwatch League Awards

"Ali's were such a an unqualified success. I think is the correct terminology to use their you know just so critically acclaimed and and so positively received by all over watch league fans that the League has decided to copy some of our awards and assigned some some coach of the years, the Dennis Aleka Award winner, and the rookie of the year were announced I. Believe all of them were announced this past weekend and moon one coach of the year so. I mean, we even gave you the right answer and run. Was One of our nominees as well. Right? One mccreavy one that Dennis Award. have no comment. I see my comments from last year about what that what that award turned into what it could have been but major props for the Housi- re tweet That is. Now and then alarm is the rookie the year that one was a little bit of a no brainer to be perfectly honest when you're a rookie and squarely in fairly significantly in the MVP running then right you really should win this I really liked his announcement video i. don't know if you saw it but Made me like the player a little bit more just kind of his attitude about the whole thing like. It when he was asked about it, he said you know. I care about this almost more than I care about the MVP award. I've got a lot of cracks to try to win the MVP award I only get one go at rookie of the year and so I think that was just a really good attitude from out it, and then you could see when they told him obviously the emotion that he was really a little overwhelmed there and it's got to be great to put it all that hard work and get some form of accolades or acknowledgement of that and I thought he was. Really. Gracious accepting everything like that. Quick to put some a lot of the credit and accolades onto his teammates and CETERA. So. It was very professional kind of response and a very mature attitude towards the whole awards process just yeah. Just really made me like alarm a little bit more. I. Mean if his his play wasn't enough does seem like somebody that really gets what the League is about in going for you know has the right attitude about everything and should continue to be great and hopefully does get the MVP award in the future. Yeah Keep it up. He's been great. Yeah. I. Mean It's a flood has got to retire at some point. but yeah, I think it's interesting. That you point that out death because it's it's almost refreshing to see an east sports athlete like. Take a more or like. The things that you're saying are not like. You know revolutionary right like we see like this is the this is the the mainstay for traditional sports. It's like the PR answer but like you can give the PR answer and still put your own spin on it in your own emotion on it, and it can still be true. It's just like I don't know I've almost maybe it's because we're boomers now. Or maybe it's just. Or maybe it's because we're deadened to the like I'm just so over the like. I'll call it. The livestream fails like mentality of everything where it's just like, Oh, well, I'm going to just be I'm going to be. I'm going to say something stupid here I'm GonNa try to 'cause I'm going to try to cause something out of nothing and it's like sometimes you can just give the professional answer and and and be fine. So I don't know I I like the from it. was going to be that I, mean, there's definitely more than one way you can go about doing this and this is this his kind of. Is Answers his. The way he portrayed it and himself in that situation was a little bit the cookie cutter way. But you you definitely need both right has without having the cookie cutter way even norm than the other people that are a little more outlandish is interesting or it really right and almost waters it down in its own way. So it's it's great to see. You know this kind of attitude mentality recognized I think it it. Only enhances anybody goofy about it in the future trying to think of anybody really was goofy about it though not. Not Not in this case, I'm just thinking and I'm not even necessarily thinking about overwatch specifically I'm just thinking of like in general like. Not Everyone Yeah Sinatra was like a little bit arrogant about it after the fact but like Kinda gracious in the moment, which was which was called four I think he absolutely handled it a little different with MVP You know and then at to me, it's it's weird when you are hearing the acceptance speeches and stuff, and maybe this is a mark that I'm getting used to that a little bit can like listen to the message but like when it comes through a translator. And then when you're hearing the words, the emotion is one degree separate right? Try like apply the inflection in the language. You don't understand the more deadpan words coming from. Fair to say the Jonet wasn't exactly that way you know anything like that. And obviously, this is this is a different award. I don't really remember eighty rookie of the years in the past and I did it. and. was. Everybody. So the award didn't make much sense there. So yeah, I don't really remember I mean I remember who won last year I just don't remember anything about the unveiling of the announcement. So yeah. Yeah I don't know it was just a good job overall by production maybe too dumb things out I really did enjoy the award announcements. Yeah. does this time around for sure

Would Michael Jordan Rule in Today's NBA?

"Kirk. So I I swear. I promise we're not here to debate. Mj versus Lebron. At least not until the end of the interview believe me I have my stance. It is locked and loaded. We'll get to that. I don't want to alienate half the audience before we begin so over the last few weeks. Those of us who have watched the last dance have borne witness to the greatness. That is Michael. Jordan and that greatness does inform the Lebron debate insofar as it has reminded us of how dominant Jordan was but of course he was playing a different era. Basketball was very different from how it is today which can make it hard to compare those two players or to evaluate how Jordan would fare in today's NBA. So let's start here and established that point of comparison. What was the league like Jordan came into it? Well Jordan came into the in nineteen eighty four and it was a very very different place. The best players in the League at that time or Magic Johnson. Magic Johnson Larry Bird bird again. Larry saying the crowd here. This is what came to see. Kareem abdul-jabbar was still really good Long story short meaning the the NBA was run by big men just as it had been since its entire district and eight of the ten highest play players by the time Jordan even retired centers Jordan was drafted in Nineteen eighty-four just to give you an idea dominant. How valuable centers were sixteen of the twenty previous? Mvp Award winners heading into the one thousand nine hundred four eighty five season worst centers so Jordan entered an MBA. That's fair to characterize as a centers -ly And obviously it's very very different than what we're describing here in twenty twenty. So how big of a deal was it? That the best player in the League Michael Jordan was a shooting dude. You can't overstate. How big of a deal. It was really weird. I mean magic had showed us that point guards could be great. Bird showed us the power forwards and shooting. Forwards could be great no. Mvp had ever come from the shooting. Guard position nobody had really ever dominated the leak or won championships from that position or in that way and again one of the main things the makes Michael Jordan's such a special character in NBA. History is that he deformed the various static of MBA greatness. disrupted to use the term from from Silicon Valley. What it meant and what it looked like to be. Nba superstar love deformed as a verb because it sort of implies that he bent the League to his own. Will he did that man? I mean he came in there and it was violent and it was beautiful and it was for the betterment of the future of the sport a couple of weeks ago. You're at a piece about why. Michael Jordan was such a transcendent score. Can you explain what it was that? Made that dominant so unusual. Yeah well it starts with the fact that he's a he's a guard and again to contextualize it against what was going on in the eighties. Nineties is is shooting guards in wings didn't dominate the NBA. We had the occasional superstar like Julius Irving. So I'm not GonNa say that he was the first star wing but he was a jump shooter. Long Story Short. He was a jump shooting guard. Who could attack the Rim and boy could he attack the rim? So the early part of Jordan's careers. Obviously marked by these highlight jump. Man Silhouettes the dump contest leap from the free throw line and Chicago. Stadium can picture that in our head along Dominique to Michael Jordan but by the end Meena Jordan would beat teams with just incredible mid range shooting And if a majority of buckets in the last dance season in that second repeat came off of the mid range jump shots that either came from post plays Dribble pull-ups quick stops just an endless array of mid range jumpers. Mj On the way away. Jumper and one scout told me a really stuck out is like I've been watching the last dance for eight hours now. I haven't seen the same move twice. It's not like he had to go to move over and over again. All those phase pretty close but man he he did it all but he did it in this area that we don't use very much anymore. Aka Amid Ridge and he's also very difficult shots right thinking about it this way. If you're going up against the Bulls in his nineteen ninety two or nineteen ninety-seven and year in opposing coach. Year number one objective is pretty clear If you can stop or slowdown Michael Jordan. You have a chance. If can't you don't So almost every night the Jordan played he would get the other teams best defender. And that person would WANNA play their best game of the year because everybody in their Rena was watching it and so he did. This eighty two games a year to put up the best sort of scoring numbers in the League against the best defensive performers in the league so you made a heat map for Jordan and then in the same story you made one for harden and you put them next to each other and trying to comparison it almost looks like urban and rural America right or like to to heat maps. That are just wildly different. Almost like people playing different sports one hundred percent in hardened deserves all the credit in the world for becoming the best score of this era but this era is dominated by sort of this moneyball dogma efficiency efficiency efficiency and when you look at James Harden shot signature. You see a guy who shoots near the hoop. He's great Basket attacking guard like Jordan But then away from the painting of the student only shoots threes. He avoids the Mid Range just like he avoids a shaving cream. And and then when you look at say Jordan you see almost the exact opposite remember that old image of Pan Jia and how the continent sort of fit together these two shots hearts kind of look like South America and Africa. Where Jordan is one shape all mid range and then a hardest jump shot activity is sort of surrounding that all three point airs. Jordan didn't shoot a lot of threes.

ESPN Michael Jordan doc: 'The Last Dance' episode 3-4 highlights

"From now last night the last dance Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls we have a so it's three and four and these two episodes centered on two different revolving storyline it's been a little bit confusing as great as the filmmaking is it's been a little confusing if they darted back and forth between eras the reason they're doing this is not just a start to finish documentary the timeline of the nineteen ninety Chicago Bulls which which start hypothetically would Jordan gets there the eighties then go right through nineteen ninety eight instead of it's built around the all access footage that they got in nineteen ninety eight and so that's got to be at the core of it and then they build around that the sub plots of what happened with Jordan first got there the building of the culture of the hiring of Phil Jackson the resentment of the Jerry Krause the addition of Scotty Pippin all these little things along the way and so last A. U. two totally different eras kind of combining these two episodes the one era being the nineteen late nineteen eighties early nineteen nineties wars with the Detroit Pistons the bad boys pits and buys that Thomas Joe Dumars and Dennis Rodman and then the modern carnival surrounding Dennis Rodman with the bulls and I say moderate in air quotes because it was nineteen ninety eight so you have the late eighties wars with the pistons and the late nineties battles in keeping Dennis Rodman on tracks was been a little confusing to go back and forth if you're not really familiar with how the whole thing unfolded I thought as I assumed that the episode against the episode of the wars with the pistons were going to was going to be one of the most captivating if not the most captivating because it is a moment in time where Michael still can't win and I think that there is I don't want to see it inaccurate because it is accurately the the reputation of Michael Jordan's accurately depicted as six time champion he did those things he was six now in the NBA finals six NBA finals MVP awards they never went to a game seven so is accurately depicted as a winner but what is often times forgotten is there is a chunk of his career he is not a winner and when I see the tear downs of lebron James o'reilly C. with anybody's compared to Michael of they don't have the killer instinct they're not a winner they don't take the last shot all this stuff that really is surrounded lebron by and large but it's hit other players as well and kind of makes everybody pal compares to Michael I keep reminding myself and those around me yeah but Michael wasn't always Michael that we know him now he's a finished product he is now a icon he was a winner but there were years that's the reason is because I watch those years had remember getting Sports Illustrated the mail where it said basically you don't the pistons are stopping Michael Jordan could can Michael didn't get past the pistons can Michael Jordan win a championship and that the conversation at that time nationally was Michael great individual player cannot win the title is not good enough to make his teammates better in Seoul I was glad that that part of the narrative is being talked about with that with the pistons that does our blood feuds and Michael could not get over this any loss to the pistons three consecutive years the only highlight the last two years the United ninety last night they lost we get eighty eight as well that is three years off Hey gene for Michael to after where they did they finally get over to nineteen ninety one so those wars to me were the most fascinating part about last night's two episodes because that to me is one of those interesting errors if not the most interesting era of the bulls is that they are better than garbage which they were when he took over when when he got drafted they're not as good as they were when it was assumed they would just blow through the league they're in this transition state it it's almost like it's almost like growing from a warm or caterpillar to a butterfly it's in that moment is the nineteen ninety in nineteen ninety one pivot point post seasons where they lose to the to the pistons in seven and then they finally beat him in nineteen ninety one by sweeping them and I say and the bad boy pistons walk off the floor before the game is over and don't shake the
